I ended up sitting directly in front of a statue, which completely obstructed my view, but that was ok
since we spent a good deal of our time meditating with our eyes closed. This was the first time (other
than in Greg s morning yoga and meditation sessions, which I had only been to a handful of times)
that I had ever really meditated with the intention to practice Buddhism. I don t really know what I
expected, but this indeed was different. The personal experience of meditating (and chanting) was
different than I expected. It was hard. Back at the Eco Lodge, (where we had class and morning
meditation) we would meditate for ten, maybe fifteen minutes maximum and there were only ever ten
other people in the room. Here, we were meditating for over a half hour and there were easily 100
other people here. I had a really hard time trying to stay focused on my breathing and trying to stay in
the proper posture and seated position for that length of time. Also, there was something about the
amount of people that were there and the whole realness and holiness of it all that made me quite

The law s strict standards led to schools putting out healthier meals, but cafeterias still reported losing
money. The School Nutrition Association, made up of school cafeteria administrators, lobbied
Congress and demanded more flexibility. The association says that it has become increasingly difficult
to keep paying students in lunch lines. Now, after the Senate Agriculture Committee voted in support
of the compromise plan, schools are hopeful that they will finally get the flexibility they asked for.
The compromise plan will allow schools to get more leeway when it comes to transitioning to whole

1. Print out a 360 degree protractor.
2. Fill refraction cell with clear liquid.
3. Place refraction cell so that flat edge is in line with 0 and 270 degrees.
4. Use laser pointer as light source.
5. Hold laser pointer perpendicular to flat surface of refraction cell and mark angle coming out of the
other side.
6. Move laser pointer 10 degrees from normal and mark angle on other side.
7. Repeat for angles of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 degrees.
8. Record all data into a table.
Focal length of convex lens
1. Set up a screen across from window.
2. Place convex lens into mirror holder.
3. Place mirror holder at base of screen and slowly move away from the screen.
4. When image comes into focus, move slowly until image appears to be crisp.

5. Measure distance from screen to lens.
6. This is experimental focal point, record in data table.
