Welfare Spending During The United States
Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic
standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty
rates and high levels of unemployment.
As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted
to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g.
Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was
$725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.(
2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines
steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like
Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also
made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further
says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were
historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures,
(2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5)
decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective
than welfare state generosity as a

Maryland Institute College Of Art Case Study
There are many outstanding colleges to attend for graphic design, however, the MaryLand Institute
College of Art stood out due to its major in teaching creative, technological, and intellectual skills to
pursue design. To begin, the Maryland Institute College of Art was founded in 1826, making it one of
the oldest art colleges in the United States. Along with being one of the most experienced and oldest
among art colleges, it is about 3 hours away from New York City and only 45 minutes from
Washington D.C (https://www.mica.edu/) . The importance to this is the ability to go to main cities
and study the architecture and construction involved in your curriculum. MICA costs around $53,600
dollars a year for a standard education including housing, books, and chosen classes. Another
interesting fact about MICA is that during the Civil War, the building was used briefly as a hospital for

There are many factors that play into my decision, but one is the price. The price of the school for a
single year is $53,600. If it is around $53,600 per year, four years attending the college adds up to
about $214,400. Another key factor is being so far away from my family. It would take approximately
10 hours by car to visit family from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Also, MICA does not have
a football team. I would enjoy going to a college where school spirit is present in day to day campus
life. After playing volleyball for four years, having a college volleyball team is a necessity. Even
though the campus is very beautiful, the art community seems very small. I would prefer a large,
energetic, friendly, campus that s as busy as a day is long. To summarize, the Maryland Institute
College of Art provides an extensive art education for visually inclined students along with a spacious

Globalization
Over the past decades, Globalization had made the world a much smaller place. In the passage While I

connection between the two passage. Thomas L. Freidman use the metaphor the world is flat which
mean there are many competition in the world now. Fareed Zakaria address the U.S power is
diminishing because the rest of the world is catching up. Along with the diminishing power, America
is also outsourcing jobs to other nations where labor are cheap, and abundant of natural resource are

Methodology Involves Qualitative Research
4.2 Choose an appropriate methodology in terms of the research question
Research methodology generally involves qualitative research or quantitative research, or a mixture of
both. A quantitative research methodology involves the analysis of data collected from a large number
of surveys or interviews. On the other hand, methodologies for qualitative research often involve
using surveys or interviews to collect information about people their attitudes, experiences and
behaviors.
The Methodology that will be used in terms of the research question will be the qualitative research
which involves a phenomenological perspective. The researcher aims to evaluate the meaning of
events for people in particular situations, the characteristic of qualitative research are as follows.

What Is The Compromise Of The Korean War
The Korean War was fought between North Korea (aid of China and the Soviet Union) and South
Korea (aid of the United States). The Korean War started June 25, 1950 when North Korean forces
invaded South Korea. The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953 with the Korean War armistice.
The reason why the Armistice is such a great compromise is because nothing really changed with it.
Both Korean countries still had almost the same amount of land afterwards and kinda the same
borderline. Reason why this is so big is because unlike a normal treaty where there is usually land
change, there was was no land change in the Korean Armistice. Also, with nothing really changing
when the Armistice was signed that means that both countries still stayed with the same governments.
Secondly, the Armistice is such a great example of compromise with conflict because the Korean
Armistice never actually ended the Korean War it just ceased fire (Korean Fast Facts CNN). This is a
huge thing because it still allows even more compromise in modern days. Since the Armistice never
actually ended the Korean War and only ceased fire if North and South Korea ever wanted wanted to
unification they could that and it would be easier than if they had signed an actual peace treaty (CNN).
The Armistice signing not only ceased fire but the Armistice states that the countries had to pull out all
military personnel from either country. In order to insure the stability of the military armistice so as to
facilitate the

Joan Of Arc s Hundred Years War
1337 marks the beginning of what historians have called the Hundred Years war. There had always
been conflicts and clashes between England and France, as many English kings had property they
resided over in Northern France (278). After the monarchy of the Capetians ended, a struggle ensued
on who would become the rightful heir to the throne in France. England looked to take the title King
and unite the two countries under one king or ruler, but a girl by the name Joan of Arc would halt the
plans of the English. She would in turn help the true king; dauphne Charles take his rightful throne in
the years to come. 1412 Joan of Arc is born 1415 Henry V of England defeated the French in the battle
at Agincourt. This was to be the end of France

Cursive Negative Writing
Cursive handwriting has been considered an educational staple for years but with all the advances in
modern technology has the need to know how to write in cursive become irrelevent? With almost all
classes going digital should cursive no longer be taught to the younger generations? Some people
believe cursive handwriting is essential to the development of an active mind. Some people believe
typing things out as opposed to actually handwriting messages is more beneficial. Where do you stand
on this topic? Do you think public schools should teach their students how to write in cursive? Do you
think cursive handwriting is becoming obsolete?
As with many things taught to the younger generations, there always comes some sort of debate on
whether or not the knowledge being distributed is actually beneficial to their developing minds in the
long run. Will what the schools are teaching them actually help them in their lives as (hopefully) fully
functioning adults? Cursive handwriting and whether or not to remove it permenantly from the
educational curriculum has been being tossed back and forth. A survey given to handwriting teachers
revealed that only 37% of the handwriting teachers wrote in cursive. It used to be that a persons name
written in cursive was an important part of their identity, their literal and figurative signature so to
speak, but that is no longer the case. A signature is no longer needed for most legal documents now a
days. The use of an electronic signature

The Shortening Leash Essay
For the past few decades, the development of technology and the expansion of the knowledge has
enriched our life, especially for our childhood life. However, relatively speaking, kids now are getting
less freedom than the past due to the world has more potential dangerous such as the increased rate of
abduction. Dealing a complicated problem with a very simple violent way may result in a worse
impact in the near future. Because of parents excessively protect their own children and outside world
is too horrible to play alone, more and more kids lost the opportunity of touching the nature, instead
they indulge in the virtual world created by electronic products. In the story The Shortening Leash ,
Jessica and Hanna give us a relatively accurate and unbiased information about the situation that kids
now lost freedom a lot according to the board surveys and three statistic graphs. While they mentioned
that we are not supposed to latch our kids due to over protection. Otherwise, let children pursue free
exploration is not equal to stop your ear to them.
In the article The Shortening Leash , which publishes in slate.com, Jessica Grose and Hanna Rosin
describe the children today have much less freedom in the childhood than their parents and the
possible reason why this happens. According to board surveys for asking about what parents did in
their childhood and what they allow their own kids to do now indicate that childhood criterions have
changed violently over a generation.

The Presentation of Authority and Inferiority in The Tempest
Shakespeare has staged a play that explores the human hierarchy of the Elizabethan era. At the time
dominance of one person over another was part of a system, which kept the society going. The social
hierarchy consisted of the educated, kings, bishops, lords and noble men at the top of the hierarchy,
with the working class peasants at the bottom. Everyone had a fixed status in society. However this is
all physically displaced on the island, as there is no social structure and it is uninhabited and tropical.
Shakespeare sets his plays mainly in Italy; however in The Tempest he has placed a group of civilised

We know this from the way he addresses the noble men. The punctuation shows that the boatswain is
shouting. He is able to move from inferiority to authority because he has something that the noblemen
above him do not. The question asked by the boatswain is to make a point, as he knows that they
cannot do anything. He shows them as being ignorant and stupid; the question is quite insulting,
sarcastic and sharp. It was very unlikely that noblemen would talk in that manner. Even if the
noblemen do not agree or see themselves as being inferior to the boatswain, they need him to save
them all from dying even though this may all change after the storm. Antonio gained authority from
his brother who once had ultimate authority, and now does not but rules over an uninhabited island.
Caliban as a native authority but gave it away, he also transfers his master from Prospero to Trinculo.
Shakespeare s choice of language helps shape who he feels to be superior and inferior. Throughout the
play we see how Prospero swears and shouts at Caliban he orders and threats and curses , Caliban
does swear and curse but is usually stopped by Prospero, as we know he only uses this language in
front of Caliban. Prospero speech is in verse and Caliban in prose the image of inferiority and
superiority is portrayed

How Did The Korean War Affect Canada
In 1950, Canada went to war in Korea along with the United Nations as North Korea was invading the
South. The United Nations had ordered an operation to stop the invasion of the communist North
Koreans which would be led by the Americans. Canada was reluctant to help the United Nations fight
at war since they too, believed that communism was not right and that it should be ended. Many
Canadians do not feel that there was a point of going to war in Korea also why the Korean War was
known as the forgotten war . The Korean s problems did not have much impact to Canada and people
were more focused on life at home after WWII. Over 25,000 Canadians served in the Korean War

A Discourse Community As A Group Of People That Has An...
John Swales defines a discourse community as a group of people that has an agreed set of common
public goals, ways to communicate with its members, to provide information and feedback, genre(s)
that the group may further communicate its goals, lexis, and a threshold level of members (220 2). The
group I chose to study St. Luke Church of God in Christ, St. Luke COGIC, bears the qualifications to
be a discourse community. Founded in 1925 by Millissis Shannon and her husband Charles with only
twelve members, pastoring St. Luke COGIC is Elder E. A. Shannon with over eight hundred members
(St. Luke Church of God in Christ). This church is a great church to attend and has several activities,
groups, departments, and ministries for any person at any age. Some of them include Sunday School,
music, men s, women s, youth, children s, and Bible Study and they all help to reach the community
and lead people to Christ. The church s mission statement states that their purpose is, to function as a
Christian fellowship where the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and the ordinances and doctrine of
the church is taught and administered... (St. Luke OB). My goal while observing and interviewing
people was to figure out how people praise and worship the Lord at St. Luke COGIC on a Sunday.
Watching with minimum participation and just watching at what the church members did (McCarthy

around 9:00 p.m.

Comparing Women In Mythology And The Bible
The classic Greek myths found in Mythology and ancient stories told in the Bible, often show striking
resemblance to each other in narrative, symbolism, and thematic content. In both texts respective
Creation Stories , women are portrayed similarly, cast in a rather unflattering light. The representation
of women in both Mythology and the Bible and their portrayal has lasting impact on the way woman
are perceived in the present day.
In the Biblical account of the creation of mankind, the first woman, Eve, is held responsible for the

Pandora, like Eve, is seen as being the unleasher of evil. In Mythology, in one account, it is said that
from Pandora, the first woman, comes the race of women (Hamilton 70). Women are then said to be,
evil to men, with a nature to do evil (Hamilton 70). Pandora and her descendants {womankind} are,
blatantly said to be inherently evil. Many other female characters in Mythology are also characterized
as being, if not evil, possessing other wicked traits such as being conniving, manipulative, vain, and
even oftentimes being said to be sorcerers. This representation of female characters an effect of the
original statements made about Pandora and womankind at the beginning of Mythology. However, in
an alternative version of Pandora s narrative, Pandora is illustrated in a different way. Pandora s
manner of unleashing evil into the world was through, not her wicked nature, but only her curiosity
(Hamilton 72). In this account Pandora herself isn t evil, but she is still to blame for the evil unleashed
upon the world. Pandora is blamed for her lack of understanding of the consequences of her actions.
She stands as a symbol for the thoughtlessness, and foolishness of woman and their inferiority to men,

U.s. National Security And Foreign Policy
Abstract: The theoretical and qualitative research findings discussed in this paper support the claim
that the cases of Aldrich Ames and Edward Snowden led to monumental changes in U.S. national
security and foreign policy. The effects of these cases extend beyond domestic change and have
instigated international repercussions in both intelligence practices and diplomatic relations between
the United States and multiple countries. Moreover, research acquired from journals, academic books,
congressional documents, and scholarly articles will be used to strengthen the argument that the
ramifications of whistleblowing and espionage in the Information Age have heightened the potential
for damage to U.S. foreign relations and national security.
The infamous cases of Aldrich Ames and Edward Snowden have been highly publicized and
extensively researched by the intelligence community, media, and academics alike. Consequently, a
plethora of articles, biographies, and documentaries have been written and produced on the lives and
controversial actions of both Ames and Snowden. While leading experts on these cases have
thoroughly analyzed the motivations behind Ames and Snowden s actions, and provided extensive
details on their particular cases, few researchers have focused exclusively on the effects Ames and
Snowden s cases had on U.S. national security and foreign policy. Thus, the specific question that will
be addressed in this thesis paper is how have the cases of Aldrich Ames

Importance Of The Historical Content Of A Modest Proposal
If you ignore the historical content of A Modest Proposal you will misunderstand it. Discuss.
When A Modest Proposal was published, or to give it s full name A Modest Proposal for preventing
the children of poor people in Ireland, from being a burden on their parents or country, and for making
them beneficial to the public. England dominated the whole of Ireland. English landlords owned much
of Ireland s property, Charging ridiculous amounts for rent to poor tenants who could barely afford to
pay. England imposed extremely high taxes on Ireland and the English laws which restricted Irish
trade made it impossible for the country to ever prosper. In general, the English had, at this time, a
negative attitude towards Irish people, and Roman Catholics which most Irish people were. This
knowledge is important when reading and understanding this piece. Without knowing a little about the
political and social state at this time, it may be difficult to pick up on Swift s use of satire. However
the piece itself, even the full title does educate the reader to an extent, talking about different social
classes and focusing particularly on the poor in Ireland. This essay purports to be neither decisive nor
conclusive, but merely attempts to assess the importance on the historical content of A Modest
Proposal in order to see if it is a required element when trying to understand the piece.
Over time, England progressively gained full authority over Ireland. In 1541 the parliament in

Indigenous Health Essay
Causative considerations are multifactorial regarding the development of low health literacy rates in
Aboriginals, inclusive of socio economical disadvantages, geographical considerations, and
social/environmental influences (Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, 2015). Differing
conceptualisations of reality or worldview are present within Aboriginal culture, which vary from
westernised civilisation. Indigenous history lacks a biomedical background, and encompasses
differing views of disease/illness, which may be associated with personal actions/behaviours, social
order, and spiritual health. As an example, disease may be viewed as the consequence of
sorcery/voodoo (Vass, Mitchell, Dhurrkay, 2011). Other factors may stem from mistrust of
westernised medicine/civilisation due to The Stolen Generation or social engineering and previous
cultural genocide (Shahid, Finn, Thompson, 2009), English as a second language, and lack of
connection/engagement with westernised pedagogy frameworks for health teaching (Yunkaporta,
2009). Other considerations may correlate to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In indigenous culture, mental illness, inclusive of psychosis/dissociative disorder may be attributed to
cultural distress. Such distress may originate from British colonisation, but is as recent as the Stolen
Generation with Aboriginal decimation/cultural devastation and attempted cultural eradication via
genocide. Current issues of racism and socioeconomic disadvantage are also attributable (Australian
Council for Educational Research., the Kalunga Research Network., Telethon Institute for Child
Health Research, 2010). Due to the plethora of causative factors regarding poor literacy, nurses face
many challenges in addressing this

Rhetoric and Betrayal in Julius Caeser Play
William Shakespeare s famous play Julius Caesar utilizes the literary element of rhetoric multiple
times throughout to show the true power that words can hold. The rhetoric in Caesar accompanies the
play s themes of betrayal, deception, and exaggeration. Brutus uses rhetoric to persuade the crowd of
plebeians that the murdering of Caesar was positive and beneficial to all of Rome, winning their
support and causing them to join his cause. Soon after, Mark Antony gives a terrifically persuasive
speech that he claims to be a funeral oration for Caesar, but is truly a cleverly shrouded undermining
to Brutus s speech. Antony s speech is able to not only gain him the crowd s support, but causes the
crowd to completely disregard what Brutus had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the starting line of his oration is a powerful use of rhetoric. By referring to the plebeians as
friends and Romans he creates a sense of emotional connection with them and shapes a feeling of
citizen like connection, which is use of pathos. Calling them countrymen creates the feeling that
Antony is simply a fellow Roman like the plebeians and he is alike to them. Antony then uses the
rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a
use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to
what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also
mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. Antony
causes himself to appeal to the crowd even more with another device of rhetoric the understatement.
He claims his modesty and contrasts his speaking skills with those of Brutus, when his persuasive
skills are actually more powerful than Brutus s in the lines: I come not, friends, to steal away your
hearts. I am no orator, as Brutus is, But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man That love my friend.
And that they know full well That gave me public leave to speak of him. (3.2.210 14)
Antony s statement is ironic because he states that he is not an orator like Brutus, when is actually a
better orator and persuades the

Pros And Cons Of The Keystone Pipeline
What is the Keystone Pipeline? On January 24, 2017 TransCanada submitted a third application for a
Presidential Permit to construct, operate, and maintain the Keystone pipeline system to import crude
across the international border of Canada into the US. Originally, TransCanada submitted an
application in 2008 and another in 2012 during President Obama s administration. The first two
applications received much scrutiny from the State Department, they conducted a combined total of
five Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), multiple public comment periods, and analyzed multiple
alternative routes. Figure 1 shows the entire route of the Keystone pipeline system from Hardisty,
Alberta, Canada through Oklahoma and down to Port Arthur, Texas. ... Show more content on

Many of the opponents argue the pipeline only creates temporary jobs for two years during
construction, and continually report the lower end estimated economic benefits. In contrast, the
proponents typically exaggerate the economic benefits proclaim the lasting stimulus the project will
provide. The truth usually lies somewhere in between. Undoubtedly, the construction phase of the
project will provide the most immediate benefit to the US economy than the operation and
maintenance phases of the project. During the construction phase, it is estimated that $3.4 billion
dollars would be added to the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). Of that, roughly $2.05 billion
would be earmarked for employee earnings related to the construction phase. However, after the
construction phase, approximately only 50 permanent employees and 15 temporary contractors would
remain to operate the pipeline. (Department of State, 2017) Evidently, this project will not provide a
long term windfall of economic stimulus. Nevertheless, $2.05 billion dollars in employee earnings in
the next two years during slower economic times is nothing to write

Full Metal Jacket Movie Essay
Kubrick s Message Stanley Kubrick the director of Full Metal Jacket, left many classmates speechless,
including me. Throughout the movie Full Metal Jacket gives us a meaningful experience of the
Vietnam war. By using our critical thinking and media skills we can often evaluate what the director is
demonstrating and what message he s trying to project. The way the scenes and scripts are structured
can often give us a grip of what Kubrick wants us to perceive. By analyzing this production it is
obvious that he tries to notify the audience about the drawbacks of Vietnam and any other war; where
casualties involve. The way Kubrick begins the movie s storyline by presenting an anti war
perspective. He establishes the movie off with a scene where five men are getting a hair cut. Thanks to
the soundtrack, the barber is portrayed as cheerful man that s just doing his job peacefully. When
observing a great amount of hair being cut, you think wow at least their hair could have been kept to
preserve their identity . This causes the audience to think of all the major adjustments that come with
the responsibility of protecting one s country. As you continue watching the movie you realize that
there is nothing left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vincent D Onofrio was used by the director to give us an example of the possible effect of joining the
army, mental deterioration. During the training Vincent D Onofrio has altered mentally in many ways.
The constant repetition of the phrases I am here to kill and that this is my[his] rifle, it s my[his] only
friend were the source of the mentally ill man to change his ways. Vincent D Onofrio changed to a
human where mercy wasn t perceptible. He was selfish of his own life and was persuaded that he was
born to kill. Kubrick sent us a message through Vincent D Onofrio, he wanted the audience to
visualize how brutal the effects of war can be to a

My Sorority Is A Discourse Community
The discourse community I have chosen is within my sorority, Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta). There are
many stereotypes associated with Tri Delta, and that is the most irritating thing about being in a
sorority. Anyone from my high school would insist that I am not a sorority girl if someone were to ask
them. When I started my fall semester, I was not expecting to rush because once again again, I am not
the sorority type . Greek life at Boise State is unlike any other campus. Some may think that being in a
sorority is all about social standing, parties, and being better than the people around you. In reality, it
is the exact opposite. For the rest of this paper, I am going to prove to you why Tri Delta is a discourse
community. In order to get information for my paper, I interviewed someone with a position of
authority within Tri Delta. Her name is Danielle, and she is the new member educator. The first thing I
learned about Tri Delta is that it is more than just letters on a shirt, songs and chants, a gold pin,
socials, rituals, an obligation, or a way of life. Being in a sorority is about learning about people and
being able to give without expecting a return. Tri Delta has allowed me to find lifelong friends and
find confidence in myself as well as in my sisters, Danielle explained. After hearing her explanation, I
couldn t agree more. Danielle also told me that the close relationships are her favorite part. My
favorite part about being in Tri Delta is the sisterhood.

False Eyelashes Research Paper
For approximately 6,000 years women have utilized artificial means to enhance the appearance of
their eyes. Throughout the Victorian Era using Mascara became fashionable, and in 1916 false
eyelashes were developed. A current improvement in the actual enhancement of the woman s
eyelashes is the invention of eyelash extension. What s The Difference Between False Eyelashes And
Eyelash Extensions? A false eyelash is a reproduction of a complete eyelash on a base that is glued to
the eye lid around the bottom of the eyelashes. They can easily be removed and are only a short term
enhancement to improve the appearance of eyelashes. An eyelash extension is a series of individual
eyelashes that are glued to current eyelashes and will last for around

Literature Review On Lung Cancer
1.0 Literature review
1.0.1 Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is a dangerous health problem which affects many people (Thomas, 2013). It becomes
the top killer among other types of cancers in the world (Molina, Yang, Cassivi, Schild Adjei, 2008).
According to the statistics made by National Institute of Health, more than 161, 000 cases were
reported in U.S. involving death caused by lung cancer in 2008 (Samet, Tang, Boffetta, Hannan,
Marston, Thun et, al., 2009). Despite the decreasing trends of lung cancer incidence rates for men in
the 1980s and for women in the late 1990s, still the lung and bronchus cancer remain the significant
cause of cancer mortality in the United States, with an estimation of 87,750 and 72,590 deaths to
occur in men and women, respectively, in 2012 (Field Withers, 2012) American Lung Association
(2015) has defined lung cancer as a growth of abnormal cells in the lungs without control, which ...

This may occur to the old cells, to be replaced by new ones. This is denoted as a natural process. Cell
death may also occur due to localized injury and disease (Martes, 2014). There are two ways a cell
death can occur which are necrosis and apoptosis.
Necrosis occurs due to the harm caused by an external force, such as bodily injury, poison and
infection. When the body cells die due to necrosis, it causes serious inflammation and further injury in
the body (Martes, 2014). The other way of cell death is apoptosis. It is also called as programmed cell
death. It follows a predictable and control routine (Kogel Prehn, 2013).
Abnormal apoptosis, either too much or too little of it can cause many serious diseases in human such
as neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune disorders, ischemic damage and many types of cancer
(Elmore, 2007). Therefore, the field of apoptosis is gaining attention in the research to analyze the
signaling pathways of

The Negative Effects Of Local Farms
Food is an important necessity which gives our bodies the nutrients it needs to function properly. It is
a great way of breaking bread with people of various social backgrounds and developing a stronger
connection amongst one another. This allows for differences to be put aside and bring people closer
together. The types of produce we consume is important, rather we buy our foods locally or from the
supermarket. Consumers who purchase produce from local farms are known as locavores. Buying
produce locally may have a positive impact on the local community; however, it could have a negative
toll on the overall factors such as the economy, natural resource endowments, and transportation,
potentially leading to a global disaster.
Local farms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific crops are meant to be grown in certain regions, if attempting to grow an outside crop from its
originated region, it would be costly to grow and maintain the crops due to an increase in natural
resources such as fertilizer and acres of land. This would increase the price of produce, making it quite
expensive (Sexton, 2011, p. 3). For example, California grows the majority of the produce such as
strawberries. Unlike the state of Utah, California would not need as much acres of land to be able to
grow strawberries and it would cost less to do so. Compared to most states, California is capable of
making the most of its resources efficiently due to its geography. By having local farms producing
outside crops, it would only sacrifice the advantages California and other states have in producing
particular crops (Meyers, Sexton, 2011, p.1). With the prices of produce increasing due to the increase
in natural resources, this makes it a burden on poor consumers who won t be able to purchase produce
locally and have to go to a supermarket which best fits their means. Decreasing the distances which it
takes for produce to travel from farm to fork (Meyers, Sexton, 2015, p.1) helps to reduce fuel and save
the environment. However, transportation only takes up a total of 10% or less of the energy used to
bring goods to market (Meyers, Sexton, 2015, p.1). This does not consist of

Intellectual Freedom And Censorship In The Library Analysis
I read the article, Intellectual Freedom and Censorship in the Library. This article was written by
Jessica L. Cooper and discussed how librarians are to deal with the issues of intellectual freedom and
censorship in libraries while serving in the best interest of their patrons. This article states that with
intellectual freedom, individuals have the right to allow their minds to take them wherever to gain
understanding, information, and ideas. Libraries are where these individuals can gain such
understanding by being served with access to all types of information in different formats, regardless
of content. Throughout history, individuals have tried to prevent and control the creation, access, and

  • 2. Welfare Spending During The United States Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty rates and high levels of unemployment. As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g. Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was $725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.( 2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures, (2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5) decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective than welfare state generosity as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Maryland Institute College Of Art Case Study There are many outstanding colleges to attend for graphic design, however, the MaryLand Institute College of Art stood out due to its major in teaching creative, technological, and intellectual skills to pursue design. To begin, the Maryland Institute College of Art was founded in 1826, making it one of the oldest art colleges in the United States. Along with being one of the most experienced and oldest among art colleges, it is about 3 hours away from New York City and only 45 minutes from Washington D.C (https://www.mica.edu/) . The importance to this is the ability to go to main cities and study the architecture and construction involved in your curriculum. MICA costs around $53,600 dollars a year for a standard education including housing, books, and chosen classes. Another interesting fact about MICA is that during the Civil War, the building was used briefly as a hospital for wounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors that play into my decision, but one is the price. The price of the school for a single year is $53,600. If it is around $53,600 per year, four years attending the college adds up to about $214,400. Another key factor is being so far away from my family. It would take approximately 10 hours by car to visit family from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Also, MICA does not have a football team. I would enjoy going to a college where school spirit is present in day to day campus life. After playing volleyball for four years, having a college volleyball team is a necessity. Even though the campus is very beautiful, the art community seems very small. I would prefer a large, energetic, friendly, campus that s as busy as a day is long. To summarize, the Maryland Institute College of Art provides an extensive art education for visually inclined students along with a spacious campus in a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Is The Compromise Of The Korean War The Korean War was fought between North Korea (aid of China and the Soviet Union) and South Korea (aid of the United States). The Korean War started June 25, 1950 when North Korean forces invaded South Korea. The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953 with the Korean War armistice. The reason why the Armistice is such a great compromise is because nothing really changed with it. Both Korean countries still had almost the same amount of land afterwards and kinda the same borderline. Reason why this is so big is because unlike a normal treaty where there is usually land change, there was was no land change in the Korean Armistice. Also, with nothing really changing when the Armistice was signed that means that both countries still stayed with the same governments. Secondly, the Armistice is such a great example of compromise with conflict because the Korean Armistice never actually ended the Korean War it just ceased fire (Korean Fast Facts CNN). This is a huge thing because it still allows even more compromise in modern days. Since the Armistice never actually ended the Korean War and only ceased fire if North and South Korea ever wanted wanted to unification they could that and it would be easier than if they had signed an actual peace treaty (CNN). The Armistice signing not only ceased fire but the Armistice states that the countries had to pull out all military personnel from either country. • 8. Cursive Negative Writing Cursive handwriting has been considered an educational staple for years but with all the advances in modern technology has the need to know how to write in cursive become irrelevent? With almost all classes going digital should cursive no longer be taught to the younger generations? Some people believe cursive handwriting is essential to the development of an active mind. Some people believe typing things out as opposed to actually handwriting messages is more beneficial. Where do you stand on this topic? Do you think public schools should teach their students how to write in cursive? Do you think cursive handwriting is becoming obsolete? As with many things taught to the younger generations, there always comes some sort of debate on whether or not the knowledge being distributed is actually beneficial to their developing minds in the long run. Will what the schools are teaching them actually help them in their lives as (hopefully) fully functioning adults? Cursive handwriting and whether or not to remove it permenantly from the educational curriculum has been being tossed back and forth. A survey given to handwriting teachers revealed that only 37% of the handwriting teachers wrote in cursive. It used to be that a persons name written in cursive was an important part of their identity, their literal and figurative signature so to speak, but that is no longer the case. A signature is no longer needed for most legal documents now a days. The use of an electronic signature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was very unlikely that noblemen would talk in that manner. Many other female characters in Mythology are also characterized as being, if not evil, possessing other wicked traits such as being conniving, manipulative, vain, and even oftentimes being said to be sorcerers. This representation of female characters an effect of the original statements made about Pandora and womankind at the beginning of Mythology. However, in an alternative version of Pandora s narrative, Pandora is illustrated in a different way. Pandora s manner of unleashing evil into the world was through, not her wicked nature, but only her curiosity (Hamilton 72). In this account Pandora herself isn t evil, but she is still to blame for the evil unleashed upon the world. Pandora is blamed for her lack of understanding of the consequences of her actions. She stands as a symbol for the thoughtlessness, and foolishness of woman and their inferiority to men, who unlike woman, are more thoughtful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. U.s. National Security And Foreign Policy Abstract: The theoretical and qualitative research findings discussed in this paper support the claim that the cases of Aldrich Ames and Edward Snowden led to monumental changes in U.S. national security and foreign policy. The effects of these cases extend beyond domestic change and have instigated international repercussions in both intelligence practices and diplomatic relations between the United States and multiple countries. Moreover, research acquired from journals, academic books, congressional documents, and scholarly articles will be used to strengthen the argument that the ramifications of whistleblowing and espionage in the Information Age have heightened the potential for damage to U.S. foreign relations and national security. The infamous cases of Aldrich Ames and Edward Snowden have been highly publicized and extensively researched by the intelligence community, media, and academics alike. Consequently, a plethora of articles, biographies, and documentaries have been written and produced on the lives and controversial actions of both Ames and Snowden. While leading experts on these cases have thoroughly analyzed the motivations behind Ames and Snowden s actions, and provided extensive details on their particular cases, few researchers have focused exclusively on the effects Ames and Snowden s cases had on U.S. national security and foreign policy. Thus, the specific question that will be addressed in this thesis paper is how have the cases of Aldrich Ames ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When A Modest Proposal was published, or to give it s full name A Modest Proposal for preventing the children of poor people in Ireland, from being a burden on their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to the public. England dominated the whole of Ireland. English landlords owned much of Ireland s property, Charging ridiculous amounts for rent to poor tenants who could barely afford to pay. England imposed extremely high taxes on Ireland and the English laws which restricted Irish trade made it impossible for the country to ever prosper. In general, the English had, at this time, a negative attitude towards Irish people, and Roman Catholics which most Irish people were. This knowledge is important when reading and understanding this piece. Without knowing a little about the political and social state at this time, it may be difficult to pick up on Swift s use of satire. However the piece itself, even the full title does educate the reader to an extent, talking about different social classes and focusing particularly on the poor in Ireland. This essay purports to be neither decisive nor conclusive, but merely attempts to assess the importance on the historical content of A Modest Proposal in order to see if it is a required element when trying to understand the piece. Indigenous Health Essay Causative considerations are multifactorial regarding the development of low health literacy rates in Aboriginals, inclusive of socio economical disadvantages, geographical considerations, and social/environmental influences (Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, 2015). Differing conceptualisations of reality or worldview are present within Aboriginal culture, which vary from westernised civilisation. Indigenous history lacks a biomedical background, and encompasses differing views of disease/illness, which may be associated with personal actions/behaviours, social order, and spiritual health. As an example, disease may be viewed as the consequence of sorcery/voodoo (Vass, Mitchell, Dhurrkay, 2011). Other factors may stem from mistrust of westernised medicine/civilisation due to The Stolen Generation or social engineering and previous cultural genocide (Shahid, Finn, Thompson, 2009), English as a second language, and lack of connection/engagement with westernised pedagogy frameworks for health teaching (Yunkaporta, 2009). Rhetoric and Betrayal in Julius Caeser Play William Shakespeare s famous play Julius Caesar utilizes the literary element of rhetoric multiple times throughout to show the true power that words can hold. The rhetoric in Caesar accompanies the play s themes of betrayal, deception, and exaggeration. Brutus uses rhetoric to persuade the crowd of plebeians that the murdering of Caesar was positive and beneficial to all of Rome, winning their support and causing them to join his cause. Even the starting line of his oration is a powerful use of rhetoric. By referring to the plebeians as friends and Romans he creates a sense of emotional connection with them and shapes a feeling of citizen like connection, which is use of pathos. Calling them countrymen creates the feeling that Antony is simply a fellow Roman like the plebeians and he is alike to them. Antony then uses the rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. Antony causes himself to appeal to the crowd even more with another device of rhetoric the understatement. He claims his modesty and contrasts his speaking skills with those of Brutus, when his persuasive skills are actually more powerful than Brutus s in the lines: I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts. I am no orator, as Brutus is, But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man That love my friend. And that they know full well That gave me public leave to speak of him. According to the statistics made by National Institute of Health, more than 161, 000 cases were reported in U.S. involving death caused by lung cancer in 2008 (Samet, Tang, Boffetta, Hannan, Marston, Thun et, al., 2009). Despite the decreasing trends of lung cancer incidence rates for men in the 1980s and for women in the late 1990s, still the lung and bronchus cancer remain the significant cause of cancer mortality in the United States, with an estimation of 87,750 and 72,590 deaths to occur in men and women, respectively, in 2012 (Field Withers, 2012) American Lung Association (2015) has defined lung cancer as a growth of abnormal cells in the lungs without control, which ... Local farms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specific crops are meant to be grown in certain regions, if attempting to grow an outside crop from its originated region, it would be costly to grow and maintain the crops due to an increase in natural resources such as fertilizer and acres of land. This would increase the price of produce, making it quite expensive (Sexton, 2011, p. 3). For example, California grows the majority of the produce such as strawberries. Unlike the state of Utah, California would not need as much acres of land to be able to grow strawberries and it would cost less to do so. Compared to most states, California is capable of making the most of its resources efficiently due to its geography. By having local farms producing outside crops, it would only sacrifice the advantages California and other states have in producing particular crops (Meyers, Sexton, 2011, p.1). With the prices of produce increasing due to the increase in natural resources, this makes it a burden on poor consumers who won t be able to purchase produce locally and have to go to a supermarket which best fits their means. Decreasing the distances which it takes for produce to travel from farm to fork (Meyers, Sexton, 2015, p.1) helps to reduce fuel and save the environment.
