Characteristics Of Phillis Wheatley
Phillis Wheatley. African American, poet, slave, woman. These were all the characteristics that
describe Phillis Wheatley. She was a big part of what is our country today. Also a big part of women s
rights. Phillis was born on May 8, 1753 in Gambia, Africa. At the age of 8, she was captured. She was
then put on a crowded boat that would come to America. These boat rides to America were very
traumatic, and Phillis was only 8 at the time. The year 1761 was the year she was sold in Boston,
Massachusetts. This was the peak season of selling slaves. Phillis was sold to John Wheatley and his
family. She was named after the boat she arrived on, The Phillis. Having a young slave did not make
sense to everyone else. Having an older slave would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wrote many letters to different people such as ministers. She wrote about freedom and liberty.
They needed to know what they were doing wrong and it might have changed their perspective on
slavery. And made them realize African Americans had the same qualities they did. This was also the
first book an African American woman wrote in America. Once she published her book, she received a
lot of recognition. John Hancock was one of the many who saw her book and thought it was beautiful.
Her owner decided she deserved to be free so she was freed that year from slavery. She married John
Peters, a free African American, in 1778. She had three children with him. Though none survived,
sadly. She tried to publish a second book, but it ended up falling through. She needed to support her
family so she ended working as a scrubwoman in a boardinghouse. While doing this she still was able
to write poetry. Phillis died on December 5, 1784 in Boston Massachusetts. She died from childbirth.
She was unfortunately very young to die. She died a great woman with many achievements. Phillis
had many influences in her life. Mostly they were people who influenced her poetry. The first people
who had influenced her were her owners. They taught her everything she knew, and also helped her to
love poetry. Alexander Pope and Thomas Gray were a very big influence in her poetry. Alexander
Pope was a famous poet that was alive around the same time as

The Washington Post By Alfonzo Porter
Technology has the power to change and alter the way we live our lives in many ways that most of us
do not even realize it. As the years go by, modern technology has created countless opportunities with
endless resources. These resources can be accessed by billions of people worldwide. However, some
may wonder what changes technology has made, and have these changes improved or damaged our
lives? Many authors and publishers have pondered this and publicly expressed their own perspectives
over the issue of modern technology. Alfonzo Porter, a publisher for The Washington Post, is a strong
believer that technology has caused massive problems when it comes to educating students. The
publisher mentions that student are losing interest in school and becoming more distracted with their
cellular devices. In the newspaper, Porter writes, 76 percent of teachers believed students are being
conditioned by the internet to find quick answers, leading to a loss of concentration. Alfonzo Porter
believes that students are not taking advantage of technology, instead, they are manipulating it. In
today s modern society, there is a higher percentage of students using their cellphones to find answers,
compared to students that are properly reading a book to find solutions to their problems. This issue is
leading students becoming less interested in expanding their knowledge.
Another publisher, named Frederic G. Reamer, is a supporter of the negative effects technology have

Charon In Aristophanes The Frogs
Charon Charon appears in Aristophanes comedy The Frogs. Heracles tells Dionysus that in order to
get to the underworld to bring Euripides back for the dead, he must cross a bottomless lake. He than
says, An ancient mariner will ferry you across in a skiff no bigger than this, for a fare of two obols
(pg. 31, lines 139 140). The ancient mariner is Charon. He does not allow Xanthias to ride in his ferry
because he did not fight for his hide in the sea battle (pg. 35, line 191).

It lined the back end of the stage and was a holding place for props and sets. The Skēne could hold
things like cranes and other set decorations, although it is not really clear if they had a lot of props for

Xanthias Xanthias is a character that appears in Aristophanes comedy, The Frogs. He is the slave to
Dionysus and also sort of like a companion/advisor. The whole comedic aspect of the story hinges on
Xanthias being smarter than Dionysus and constantly correcting the stuff he does. A great example is
when he and Dionysus keep swapping the Heracles costume and good things keep happening to
Xanthias.
Silenus Silenus, the father of the satyrs, appears in the Euripides satyr The Cyclops. He lives on an
island of Cyclops and helps Odysseus and his men when they come ashore. A quote in the Cyclops

Microsoft’s Partnership with Unhcr – Pro Bono Publico Essay
Microsoft s Partnership with UNHCR Pro Bono Publico?
Microsoft s Partnership with UNHCR Pro Bono Publico?
Let me first provide the landscape of this case study by highlighting that the evolution of the
partnership between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the software
giant Microsoft Corporation facilitated a strategic and mutually beneficial partnership, as well as
shaping the definition today of good corporate social responsibility. The corporate social responsibility
(CSR) initiative was created back in 1999 as an endeavor at a point in time when Microsoft employees
engaged to assist to aid the victims of the Kosovo crisis. The emotional undertaking is referred to as

Investors invest for the return that they come to expect and receive, not necessarily deriving some
emotion of a feel good moment . Identifying and fostering partnerships is the ideal solution,
maintaining those relationships that aligned closely with the company that is meant to last, and giving
ones employees a great sense of belonging and contributing towards a cause all lead towards a long
term goal of providing some ideal public relations and brand citizenry ship longing for
acknowledgment. UNHCR created more opportunities through the partnership with Microsoft. In our
readings Microsoft lacked investment opportunities, share price dropped in valuation an the company
itself was portrayed as a monopoly power in our society. The concept behind the Global Citizen
activities within Microsoft or CSR initiatives in Kosovo was also to get the recognition throughout the
industry from stakeholders. With the Letter of Understanding (LOU) transparent as key objectives for
the public to view, it reflected social responsibility, a UNHCR Corporate Code of Conduct and a
partnership that did not fulfill any financial gains (Coethica, D. 2010). In suit, the partnership clearly
illustrated an alliance about mutual humanitarian components, reputation and provided stated outcome

My Learner s Academic Development On Their Past Work And...
I am basing my descriptions of my Average Learner s academic development on their past work and
observations. They can read and understand simple texts. In fact, the history textbook for this class is
within their reading level and so they can read and understood information therein. In addition, they
can listen and follow verbal instructions. For them, I do not have to repeat nor display my instruction
on the whiteboard nor through PowerPoint slides, but I do sometimes have to speak slower to assure
they can hear what I say. They can write simple and complex sentences, with a high degree of clarity.
(I will provide further information about this when I describe their language development later in this
paper). Collectively, they can collaborate in groups, preferably of no more than three students in a
group, because anything more is not conducive to learning. The reason they work well together
because most know each other from being in the same classes last year and the on the same sport team
this class has many baseball players. Insofar, this has proven to be advantageous, by having them in
groups, and I could not be more satisfied with the results.
However, they are not perfect students. They have gaps in their speculative developments. One of
them is, comprehending primary sources. They are still learning to comprehend primary document
texts. For example, in the past, I had tried using length, a page long or more, and unedited primary
documents. I had used George

A deemed approved ordinance (DAO) or a nuisance abatement ordinance is a piece of legislation
using the same zoning authority to apply Conditional Use Permits (CUP) equivalent standards to new
and preexisting alcohol outlets enacted by a municipal authority to quall the adverse impacts of
alcohol availability and alcohol sales on the public health, safety, and welfare of the community and
residents. While the state of California has exclusive regulatory authority over the licensing and
regulation of alcohol sales, local governments implement DAOs to exercise authority over preexisting
alcohol retail establishments by regulating their numbers, location, size and practices through land use

the City has seen a sharp decline in alcohol related crime and nuisances, such as public drunkenness

Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States
Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer
this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively
stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of
capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics,
geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other
factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United
States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the
Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The income disparity between them and the core then causes insurrections to arise. This makes the
maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in
times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away
temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case
scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is
difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal
economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877
that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means
that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating
large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile,
capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising,
as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. Part of what makes it so valuable is the
rain shadow effect created by the Rocky Mountains that separate

How Steel Changed America
How Steel changed America One of the greatest discovers that transformed cities to what they are now
is steel industry. The rise of the steel industry in the United States drove America s growth as a world
economic power. The industrialization of America made steel the number one selling product. Steel
was used in the construction and maintenance of railroads as well as nearly every other industry of the
day (Carnegie, Andrew). Even thou steel had been used during the early days of European settlement

boom on building also cause people to move to cities and kept them there because they had steading
work. This gave a rise to modern cities all across the United Stated and creating professionals jobs has
we see today. America s emergence as the world s greatest industrial power at the end of the
nineteenth century was based on the mass production of steel. In the process of contributing to the
transformation of the country s economy, the steel industry itself was transformed. The technological
and organizational changes in the American steel industry during the nineteenth century were both
causes and effects of an increasingly diverse, rapidly urbanizing industrial society (Carnegie,
Andrew). References Carnegie, Andrew. Gilded Age and Progressive Era Reference Library. Ed.

How Does Unification Of Language Cause Conflict
Another way in which language can prevent or resolve a conflict is by its role in nationalism that
implies a process of unification. Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because your local
identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting apart their
differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified nation, a unified
language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of language, for example, is a
political act as well as a war act as long as it oppresses local identities and this may be a cause of
conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states because you are being conquered.
Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that can cause confrontation. However, the
same unification process has a self implication of bringing together places that were once separated
for different reasons which constitutes a conflict resolution method. People are putting aside their
differences in order to have a nation. The differences don´t disappear but a new rhetoric about ... Show

When we think of a conflict there must be at least two opposing sides. Nationalism is a way of making
this problem between two parties one that involves two complete countries. The individual differences
disappear and the problem is now a binary one with extreme opposing sides, each being the whole
people of each country as they are united under nationalism. Language in nationalism also lets us trace
the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is the primary
means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). International conflicts can arise because of this
impossibility to communicate effectively and the division this creates. So, language in nationalism
contributes to conflicts because it creates the difference between the opposing sides and makes the
conflict one that involves all the

The Changes in the Way People Learn
Over time the way people learn, obtain and remember information has drastically changed and will
most likely continue to change. I will explore several of the changes from print technology, to
recording technology to computers and cellphones. Many years ago very few people knew how to
read, it was not until printing technology was improved that everyone began to learn to read. Before
printing began all books were printed by hand by specially skilled people and it took several months to
finish just one book causing them to be very rare and expensive so that only the wealthiest people
could afford them (Bernstein 109). After Gutenberg invented his printing press which had replaceable
movable letters used like stamps causing more books to be printed at a time (Bellis). The number of
books available greatly rose causing the price of the books to decrease drastically so that even the
poorest people could afford them. With this change many people were able to learn how to read. With
this new found knowledge the way we learned changed, before people had to remember everything
and after printing began to be cheaper people did not have to remember like before they could just
read and write to take notes. Lecture Capture is used to record both video and audio of a class so that
the students who have a legitimate reason for missing class such as a sickness or a school game they
need to be present at can watch and listen at a later time (DeSantis 6). It is a good idea as people

Drosophila Melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster Sex linkage and inheritance of genes through cross breeding
Abstract
This experiment looks at the relationship between genes, generations of a population and if genes are
carried from one generation to another. By studying Drosophila melanogaster, starting with a parent
group we crossed a variety of flies and observe the characteristics of the F1 generation. We then
concluded that sex linked genes and autosomal genes could indeed be traced through from the parent
generation to the F1 generation.
Introduction
Sex linkage and inherited genes allow us to predict and understand how and why certain animals and
plants inherit features from their parents while some don t. Sex linkage is the condition in which a ...

Care was taken to not let the immobilised Drosophila drown in the white media until they were flying
again.
The vial was then labeled accordingly with the type of cross (Male Vg, Female W) and the date. The
date is important as the Drosophila complete a life cycle within approximately 2 weeks from the
mating day. This vial became known as the parent generation or (P).
The vial was then kept in a moderate temperature out of the sun and by the end of the first week the
parent generation had laid eggs, hatched and the next generation were between the larva stage and the
pupa stage. At this point, the parent generations was no longer required and were decanted out into
ethyl alcohol, killed and disposed of. They did not need to be scored (inspected) as we already knew
what they were.
We then kept the vial with the juvenile Drosophila for another 2 weeks in the same conditions as
above and found that the F1 generation had hatched and laid eggs of their own. We then decanted the
F1 generation into alcohol to kill them and kept them aside to score. The vial containing the new
generation F2 of Drosophila was then kept for use in a further experiment.
The F1 generation that we had just decanted was then moved to a dissecting microscope for scoring,
this generation included 20 Drosophila flies that we could then inspect for different traits using the
microscope (traits being the sex of

Essay On Juries
In today s society a defendant is innocent till proven guilty in the court of law. In every jury trial, the
lawyers always begin a cases with the process of selecting the jurors. Juries is define as a group of
people who are members of the community and are chose to give a verdict in a legal case. Jury duty is
mandatory for all United States citizens (White, Black, Male or Female). To fully understand how
important the jury selection is for the criminal justice system, we need to first understand the process
of jury selection.
Jury members have an important role; which is to determine whether an accused person is guilty or
not of the crime he or she committed. Juries must carefully examine evidence and witnesses presented
at trial. For this reason the process of selecting juries is very important because it ensure the
impartiality of jury being impaneled (Schmalleger, 2011; P. 353).Every citizen in the United State

Challenges of cause is when judges dismiss jury/juror who are bias or can t put their personal feelings

Barbiturates
Hypnotic drugs produce sleeping effects on individuals. There are different groups of these sleeping
aids. The most common of these groups are the barbiturates, benzodiazepines and non
benzodiazepines. Here, aim to take a look at these three groups and find which group is better for
patients who are suffering from insomnia.
Barbiturates
Barbiturates affect the central nervous system and amongst the earliest medicines that appeared to
treat sleeplessness. Not regarded among the best sleeping tablets, they are still prescribed in different
parts of the world due to their simple availability and predictable action on the body.
Barbiturates are also quite useful as anaesthetic agents and are also used for recreational purposes.

They are usually prescribed for a short duration, because they carry a risk of causing addiction and
drug dependence. Long acting benzodiazepines are also great at treating anxiety and stress.
Among all the sleeping drugs, diazepam (Valium) is perhaps the best known psychoactive drug in the
world. It is highly effective and works with over 90% of the patients who are suffering from insomnia.
The extreme efficacy of the drug however, is its downfall because careless use can produce drug
dependence.
Non benzodiazepines
The non benzodiazepines represent the new class of hypnotic drugs. They are often termed as Z drugs
because their names start with the letter Z. Drugs such as Zopiclone and Zolpidem are known to
produce less toxic effects on the body, when used for treating conditions of sleeplessness and
psychological anxiety. The mechanism of action of these drugs however, is similar to that of the
benzodiazepine family.
All of the drugs belonging to this family modulate the GABAA receptors in the nervous system of the
patients. The main advantage of this drug family is that drug dependence occurs at a slower pace.
These are the major subdivisions in this drug family:

reaching out to grab some sour gummy worms when Vesper grabbed my arm, causing me to drop my
precious chocolate. I turned to snap at him when I saw him stumbling around, waving his arms around
in front of him. I I can t see! Harry! I can t see! He yelped, sounding scared and panicked. I rushed

keep himself from panicking. Stay calm, stay calm, stay calm, I chanted in his head, help is on the
way. People were crowding around him, saying things he couldn t comprehend, tears blurring my

I believe the way individuals who suffer from chronic illness or are recovering from incidences,

2. Those with a devastating illness often have a need to tell their stories. How can others ensure that
they are able to tell their stories, and how does telling one s story impact the way patients are treated?
Sometimes listening is the best way to help someone out. I believe that someone would be able to
make sure a person story was told by listening and possibly sharing the experience with others. In the
case of Jean Dominique, he utilized a book contract he had before the accident to express his story.
Through this book I could visual all the amazing traveling expeditions he went on. When he talked
about walking down the street of Lourdes and seeing all the people making their way down this path
hoping for a miracle, it struck me. He was able to discuss this event and relate it to his current
predicament. I feel like in other instances, a person can tell their stories through vocal recordings,
speaking with loved ones, creating illustrations, or even sharing pictures. A person might take part in
one of those activities and then ask or make note of their wishes for those stories to be shared. My
grandmother passed not too long ago, and I know that whenever I get a change I try to talk about her

subcultures tend to arise in areas surrounded by a lot of organized adult crime, this causes young
people to have criminal role models and learn how to commit criminal acts. In these subcultures,
young people can move up the subcultures social hierarchy by committing more crimes. They are
usually concerned with utilitarian crimes which yield a financial reward. Conflict subcultures tend to
arise in areas surrounded by very little organized adult crime, so instead of young people committing
serious monetary crimes, they are instead committing gang related crimes to gain gang reputation.
Retreatist subcultures tend to arise in areas where young people have managed to fail at both the

while a chest pain can be non cardiac related issues. To better taking care of anyone who complains of
a chest pain, the first intervention would be the MONA: morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin and aspirin
intervention. The next step is to have an electrocardiogram (ECG) done, and ABG, and a chest X ray.
In addition, the thyroid function level and the laboratory blood work would be ordered. According to
Buttaro, et al. (2013), other diagnosis exams that can be ordered as part of the care plan for this patient
can include complete blood counts (CBC), cardiac markers (creatine kinase [CK], CK MB, and
troponin levels), electrolytes (magnesium, potassium, and sodium), serum glucose, BUN, creatinine,
urinalysis, and coagulation panel. Knowing the differential diagnoses for the patient with chest pain is

which causes by a lack of nutrients to the brain tissues where the patient may be hypovolemic due to a

How Did Tally Change In Uglies By Scott Westerfeld
Imagine living in a world where at the age of sixteen kids turn pretty and their life becomes perfect.
Everything in life becomes easy and carefree, sleep all day and party all night. That was the life Tally
was suppose to live. The whole concept of the operation was that once someone turns sixteen life
becomes perfect. Tally s trip to the Smoke was suppose to be easy once she arrived at her destination.
In the end, it turned into something Tally could have never imagined. Tally s personality had changed
without the operation. In Scott Westerfeld s book Uglies, Tally learns even the simple things in life can
end up being complex.
If Tally would have had the operation, her personality would have changed forever. In the book,
Maddy and Az are the ones who told Tally the government was putting brain lesions into new pretties
brains to change their opinions. Tally s opinions would have changed without her knowledge. Once
Tally knew she had been lied to her whole life, she never wanted to go back to the city. This shows
that Tally had learned a valuable life lesson, life is about more than just having a pretty face. Tally
wanted to be in control of her life. Even when Shay was running away ... Show more content on

Over the course of the book, Tally grows into a strong willed, independent, and responsible girl. She
learned to think on her own and not believe everything she is told; from always being lied to by the

When Tally said she would have the operation so Maddy could test out the pills since Shay didn t want
to be the test subject, it showed that she was taking responsibility for her actions because it was her
fault that Shay had the operation. Tally changed from an immature Ugly to a beautiful girl who didn t

Essay about The Key Change Needed for an Alcohic to Recover
The spiritual experience is about the personality change that occurs in mind of an alcoholic. This
change is the ultimate key that unlocks the door to recovery. Additionally, the appendix describes how
the process of recovery is paved with religious experiences. It is believed that a religious experience
must be sudden or spectacular. However, the appendix states that everyone s experience is personal
and unique. However, this is a very difficult experience to embrace. This is the very element that
forces alcoholics to finally confront and overcome their inner demons. Alcoholic s hopeless attempts
to control his/her addictive behavior are made more difficult by his/her inability to become spiritually

The Changing Nature of Family Life in Contemporary Society...
The Changing Nature of Family Life in Contemporary Society
From first attempts to transfer Horror fiction from the page to the silver screen, there have been moral
panics in response to the horror genre. In 1973, The Exorcist (directed by William Friedkin, US, 1973)
provoked outrage, and sections of the movie had to be removed in response to worldwide complaints
and panic as to the overtly sexual and violent nature of it s content, not to mention accusations of
religious blasphemy. Similarly, throughout the 1980s, there were campaigns against so called video
nasties . Although no clear definition of the term video nasty , was ever agreed upon, it generally

Aliens and Terminator II .
Like many films of their type, rather than being mere fetishism or celebrations of gore , these films
have many subtle connotations throughout, using metaphor and symbolism to denote their messages.
In this particular case, we are focusing on what these films say about family structures in modern
society; and how these structures are changing to accommodate new attitudes in contemporary culture.
When Director, James Cameron, visually pieced these two media forms together, how was he
portraying the fabric of the Family today? And more importantly, how obvious are these portrayals in
the films themselves? Well, any serious investigation of the evolution of family life has to start with
the Mother and Father, Especially in relation to Parental roles, and attitudes to female and male
sexuality, in terms of family roles today. We look at some of these issues a little later, for now, we
shall take a brief look at the two films in question, and broadly discuss some of the metaphors within
them.
As I have stated, the issues outlined above can be identified in the science fiction/ horror film hybrids
of the 1980s. In this context, the work of the writer/director James Cameron is of notable example. His
films, particularly The Terminator

Adult Spiritual Journey For Christ
As your confirmation date draws near I cannot help but to remember the day you were baptized. That
date was the first sacrament that would lead you to this most important sacrament, your confirmation.
Your confirmation, Miss Maria, will lead you into the start of your adult spiritual journey for Christ, as
that will be the day the Holy Spirit descends upon you just as it did the first twelve apostles. Now you
will embark on the same spiritual journey as those first twelve men did, and you will have the chance
to express your love and belief of Christ to others just as Peter and those other first Catholics. You will
be able to tell your children and your grandchildren just what your journey into adult Christianity
means to you.

Reader Response to John Updike s A amp;P
Sammy, you don t want to do this to your Mom and Dad, he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it seems to
me that once you begin a gesture it s fatal not to go through with it (323). This statement made by
Sammy after quitting his job, was made towards the end of John Updike s story A amp;P . Sammy had
quit his job, a job that his parents helped him to get. Sammy opened up a whole new world; a world
that I don t think Sammy was ready for. He made a quick and irrational decision, rather if it affected

Take Sammy for example, just because he quit his job that his parents helped him to get, this didn t
mean that he would have never be successful in life. Sammy lived in a small town in New England;
there were not a lot of large businesses there, just a small quaint town. If I had of been in the same
predicament, and had quit my job. I would have moved to a bigger town that offered a broader
working experience, a broader lifestyle. That opportunity would have given me a way to make a better
life for myself. With Sammy being so socially incompetent that would have given him a better
opportunity to interact and become more sociable with other people. Sammy s experience gave me a
personal insight to an experience I once had while being employed at Kroger. The location of the
Kroger I was working at was just about to have a grand opening. We had all gathered to the front of
the store to have a store meeting to prepare for the opening. Our manager at the time was speaking to
us and just telling us about how he was expecting everyone to be on his or her tasks. He wanted to
make sure that no one had any questions or concerns of their jobs. A couple of questions were asked to
the manager and he answered them one by one accordingly. All of a sudden he begins to express his
feelings of how we would like for us to act, saying things like, Act like you all have some type of
manners . I am listening to him and then he just says

In the end, of World War II, there was an era called the liberation movement that continued through

And so in most cases liberation was peaceful, but other places had a struggle with it. With those

Bolivia As A Unitary And A Democratic Government
Introduction
Bolivia is a vibrant country located in South America. Bolivia is a republic government, and it is
comprise of four branches; they are the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branch which are similar
to the United States. Juan Evo Morales is the president and his branch, executive, has majority of the
power. Bolivia has a written constitution; its criminal justice system is inspired by civil law tradition,
Spanish and Napoleonic code. Bolivia is essentially a unitary system with a highly centralized national
government (Central Intelligence Agency, 2014). This paper will highlight the legal system, history,
and legal traditions of Bolivia; furthermore, it will give insight on Bolivia s police, draw comparisons
between the United States, and the pivotal aspect of the country s criminal justice system.
Legal system, legal traditions According to the article Access to Justice and Social inclusion, Bolivia
is constituted as a unitary and a democratic government. The National Congress has two parts to it: a
Chamber of Deputies which has 130 members and a Senate of 27 members. The purpose of the
legislative branch is to adopt, abolish, modify and interpret laws all aspects of these are comparable to
America s legal system. The executive branch has the most power out of all the branches. The
president and the vice president are elected through a popular vote system. Both the president and the
vice president are elected to a five year term. The president is

Puritan Origins Of The American Wilderness Movement Summary
Many people that go out and enjoy the wilderness or the outdoors head to those places because they
need to get away from the world and relax. The opportunity you have to go out and enjoy these
beautiful areas all started with the beginning of this country by many men and their ideas and views of
the outdoors. I will conduct a rhetorical analysis of J. Baird Callicott and Priscilla Solis Ybarra s
article, The Puritan Origins of the American Wilderness Movement, and critique there use of rhetorical
appeals in order to show that their article was written successfully. J. Baird Callicott and Priscilla Solis
Ybarra are both professors at the University of North Texas and the situation they are explaining is
that the wilderness was once seen as a wild place filled with beasts that couldn t be tamed. They
include the view points and work of great foresters like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

attitudes and values of his New England contemporaries (Calliscott, Ybarra). The people that did not
care what people thought about their ideas were the ones that made this country a beautiful place. The
character that Calliscott and Ybarra come off as to me is people who care about the history of this
country and its wilderness. They include positive examples to help get there point across like, It was
their God ordained destiny to transform the dismal American wilderness into an earthly paradise,
governed according to the Word of God (Calliscott, Ybarra). The American wilderness was compared
to a paradise and should be governed to the Word of God has a positive and biblical meaning because
many people practice their religion as they please and comparing the wilderness to the Word of God is

Pathos For The Humane Society

they are on four legs and can not speak, they still deserve to be treated as if they were children.
This advertisement s primary appeal is pathos which is used to make a person emotional. When you
see the animal shivering and filthy behind the bars it makes people emotional, the music is also
dedicated to make a person feel emotional. These commercials make

Role Of Internal Audit On The Organization Outside The...
MEMO
To: Non accounting specialists
From: Miriam Lombe, Junior Accountant
Cc: Finance Director
Date: 15/12/2014
Subject: Role of Internal Audit
It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the
organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to
explain clearly the role of internal audit.
Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value
and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve
objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help
improve them.
Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the
organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working.
They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where
improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary.
By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of
internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the
organization well.
Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending
on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of
issues that are key to a company s survival

National And State Assembly Elections In Nepal
We have seen nothing like this in Nepal in the past. I am talking about the upcoming national and state
assembly elections. These elections might make or break democracy.
The make part is easy to figure out. The elections will officially end the long political transition,
convert the country de facto from a unitary state to federal, and mark the endorsement of the
Constitution 2015 by the Madheshi parties.
The Madheshi parties had refused to endorse the new constitution until their demands were met. They
had asked for one state, and not more than two states, covering all 22 districts in the plains, but the
major did not agree. So only 8 districts have been included in the Madheshi only State 2 (the states are
yet to be named). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At stake are 275 seats in the federal parliament, 165 to be elected by the first past the post method and
the rest from proportional representation. The number of State Assembly members will be twice as
many in the same ratio. Which alliance enjoys the better prospects?
In the 2013 general elections and recent local elections, the left parties were able to win nearly 60
percent seats up for the contest. If that ratio holds, the left alliance will likely be a clear winner in the
upcoming national and state elections. However, the rebel candidates against the alliance candidates
on both sides might not let the outcome to so straightforward.
Whatever the outcome, the emergence of the left and the non left alliance is a good step in the right
direction. If these alliances outlast the elections, it could be the beginning of a two party state, like in
the United States and the United Kingdom, which will contribute to political stability and offer a clear
choice for voters.
But if the two alliances fail to become competitive, the break part will likely ensue, harming
democracy and the country. Democratic elections make government representative and check it if it
does not deliver or misbehaves. But they also create autocratic leaders on both left and right.
For example, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini were members of socialist

William Shakespeare s The Scarlet Letter Is Still Relevant...
What do the following have in common; a capital A, the color red, and some words that require
googling every other word? That s right the Scarlet Letter, of course it couldn t be anything else.
Imagine a book where every word is in a dialect that is so foreign it might as well might be French.
The words seem foreign as the vowels and constants start to blend in a wonderful shade of black and
white, as tears begin to run down my face in frustration. That basically sums up the Scarlet Letter.
This book was so awful, that even Shakespeare would be lost with the plot. Parts of my ignorant

Or it stems from being forced to do unreasonable things pertaining to the book. If the people in the
class where asked about what book they wanted to read, they would be more inclined, instead of being
forced to read a book. Being forced to read kills the drive to read said book. In my mind that is one
way to bring back the love for the purest form of literacy, reading. The other way to bring back the
thirst for reading; especially me; is to read stories of people now, instead of having our kids read about
someone who is our age in school. If we study people who aren t dead, it brings with a connection the
world that other dead authors didn t have. The writer of the Scarlet Letter was not born in the time
period he wrote about but even he, would be surprised at the women of our current generation. Times
are no longer the same as they were then, or later, I cannot connect to that. I get bored trying to figure
out what the big deal is about the charcters in the story. I cannot relate to the issues they have in my
current life. Life is always changing and evolving so I believe the wirtings in school should change
too, not regress into the clonial era. The colonial era should never leave the history class, unless

  • 2. Characteristics Of Phillis Wheatley Phillis Wheatley. African American, poet, slave, woman. These were all the characteristics that describe Phillis Wheatley. She was a big part of what is our country today. Also a big part of women s rights. Phillis was born on May 8, 1753 in Gambia, Africa. At the age of 8, she was captured. She was then put on a crowded boat that would come to America. These boat rides to America were very traumatic, and Phillis was only 8 at the time. The year 1761 was the year she was sold in Boston, Massachusetts. This was the peak season of selling slaves. Phillis was sold to John Wheatley and his family. She was named after the boat she arrived on, The Phillis. Having a young slave did not make sense to everyone else. Having an older slave would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She wrote many letters to different people such as ministers. She wrote about freedom and liberty. They needed to know what they were doing wrong and it might have changed their perspective on slavery. And made them realize African Americans had the same qualities they did. This was also the first book an African American woman wrote in America. Once she published her book, she received a lot of recognition. John Hancock was one of the many who saw her book and thought it was beautiful. Her owner decided she deserved to be free so she was freed that year from slavery. She married John Peters, a free African American, in 1778. She had three children with him. Though none survived, sadly. She tried to publish a second book, but it ended up falling through. She needed to support her family so she ended working as a scrubwoman in a boardinghouse. While doing this she still was able to write poetry. Phillis died on December 5, 1784 in Boston Massachusetts. She died from childbirth. She was unfortunately very young to die. She died a great woman with many achievements. Phillis had many influences in her life. Mostly they were people who influenced her poetry. The first people who had influenced her were her owners. They taught her everything she knew, and also helped her to love poetry. Alexander Pope and Thomas Gray were a very big influence in her poetry. • 3. The Washington Post By Alfonzo Porter Technology has the power to change and alter the way we live our lives in many ways that most of us do not even realize it. As the years go by, modern technology has created countless opportunities with endless resources. These resources can be accessed by billions of people worldwide. However, some may wonder what changes technology has made, and have these changes improved or damaged our lives? Many authors and publishers have pondered this and publicly expressed their own perspectives over the issue of modern technology. Alfonzo Porter, a publisher for The Washington Post, is a strong believer that technology has caused massive problems when it comes to educating students. The publisher mentions that student are losing interest in school and becoming more distracted with their cellular devices. In the newspaper, Porter writes, 76 percent of teachers believed students are being conditioned by the internet to find quick answers, leading to a loss of concentration. Alfonzo Porter believes that students are not taking advantage of technology, instead, they are manipulating it. In today s modern society, there is a higher percentage of students using their cellphones to find answers, compared to students that are properly reading a book to find solutions to their problems. This issue is leading students becoming less interested in expanding their knowledge. Another publisher, named Frederic G. Reamer, is a supporter of the negative effects technology have ... • 4. Charon In Aristophanes The Frogs Charon Charon appears in Aristophanes comedy The Frogs. Heracles tells Dionysus that in order to get to the underworld to bring Euripides back for the dead, he must cross a bottomless lake. He than says, An ancient mariner will ferry you across in a skiff no bigger than this, for a fare of two obols (pg. 31, lines 139 140). The ancient mariner is Charon. He does not allow Xanthias to ride in his ferry because he did not fight for his hide in the sea battle (pg. 35, line 191). The Golden Fleece The Golden Fleece is the beginning element of the famous story of Medea. Jason went on a journey to claim the Fleece in Colchis and encountered Medea. Medea helped Jason get the Fleece and fell in love with him while doing so. Medea later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It lined the back end of the stage and was a holding place for props and sets. The Skēne could hold things like cranes and other set decorations, although it is not really clear if they had a lot of props for the set. Xanthias Xanthias is a character that appears in Aristophanes comedy, The Frogs. He is the slave to Dionysus and also sort of like a companion/advisor. The whole comedic aspect of the story hinges on Xanthias being smarter than Dionysus and constantly correcting the stuff he does. A great example is when he and Dionysus keep swapping the Heracles costume and good things keep happening to Xanthias. Silenus Silenus, the father of the satyrs, appears in the Euripides satyr The Cyclops. He lives on an island of Cyclops and helps Odysseus and his men when they come ashore. A quote in the Cyclops that he says is, King Odysseus, here are some lambs for you, the fat of the flock, and here, a good stock of creamed cheeses...Oh, help us! Here comes the Cyclops! What shall we do? (pg. 192, lines 188 193). This quote sort of sums up his relationship with Odysseus and the fear that he and the satyrs have of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Microsoft’s Partnership with Unhcr – Pro Bono Publico Essay Microsoft s Partnership with UNHCR Pro Bono Publico? Microsoft s Partnership with UNHCR Pro Bono Publico? Let me first provide the landscape of this case study by highlighting that the evolution of the partnership between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the software giant Microsoft Corporation facilitated a strategic and mutually beneficial partnership, as well as shaping the definition today of good corporate social responsibility. The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative was created back in 1999 as an endeavor at a point in time when Microsoft employees engaged to assist to aid the victims of the Kosovo crisis. The emotional undertaking is referred to as the spark created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Investors invest for the return that they come to expect and receive, not necessarily deriving some emotion of a feel good moment . Identifying and fostering partnerships is the ideal solution, maintaining those relationships that aligned closely with the company that is meant to last, and giving ones employees a great sense of belonging and contributing towards a cause all lead towards a long term goal of providing some ideal public relations and brand citizenry ship longing for acknowledgment. UNHCR created more opportunities through the partnership with Microsoft. In our readings Microsoft lacked investment opportunities, share price dropped in valuation an the company itself was portrayed as a monopoly power in our society. The concept behind the Global Citizen activities within Microsoft or CSR initiatives in Kosovo was also to get the recognition throughout the industry from stakeholders. With the Letter of Understanding (LOU) transparent as key objectives for the public to view, it reflected social responsibility, a UNHCR Corporate Code of Conduct and a partnership that did not fulfill any financial gains (Coethica, D. 2010). In suit, the partnership clearly illustrated an alliance about mutual humanitarian components, reputation and provided stated outcome or opportunities as deliverables. • 6. My Learner s Academic Development On Their Past Work And... I am basing my descriptions of my Average Learner s academic development on their past work and observations. They can read and understand simple texts. In fact, the history textbook for this class is within their reading level and so they can read and understood information therein. In addition, they can listen and follow verbal instructions. For them, I do not have to repeat nor display my instruction on the whiteboard nor through PowerPoint slides, but I do sometimes have to speak slower to assure they can hear what I say. They can write simple and complex sentences, with a high degree of clarity. (I will provide further information about this when I describe their language development later in this paper). Collectively, they can collaborate in groups, preferably of no more than three students in a group, because anything more is not conducive to learning. The reason they work well together because most know each other from being in the same classes last year and the on the same sport team this class has many baseball players. Insofar, this has proven to be advantageous, by having them in groups, and I could not be more satisfied with the results. However, they are not perfect students. They have gaps in their speculative developments. One of them is, comprehending primary sources. They are still learning to comprehend primary document texts. For example, in the past, I had tried using length, a page long or more, and unedited primary documents. I had used George ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics, geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The income disparity between them and the core then causes insurrections to arise. This makes the maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877 that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile, capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising, as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. The rise of the steel industry in the United States drove America s growth as a world economic power. The industrialization of America made steel the number one selling product. Steel was used in the construction and maintenance of railroads as well as nearly every other industry of the day (Carnegie, Andrew). • 10. How Does Unification Of Language Cause Conflict Another way in which language can prevent or resolve a conflict is by its role in nationalism that implies a process of unification. Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because your local identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting apart their differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified nation, a unified language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of language, for example, is a political act as well as a war act as long as it oppresses local identities and this may be a cause of conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states because you are being conquered. Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that can cause confrontation. However, the same unification process has a self implication of bringing together places that were once separated for different reasons which constitutes a conflict resolution method. People are putting aside their differences in order to have a nation. The differences don´t disappear but a new rhetoric about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we think of a conflict there must be at least two opposing sides. Nationalism is a way of making this problem between two parties one that involves two complete countries. The individual differences disappear and the problem is now a binary one with extreme opposing sides, each being the whole people of each country as they are united under nationalism. Language in nationalism also lets us trace the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is the primary means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). • 11. The Changes in the Way People Learn Over time the way people learn, obtain and remember information has drastically changed and will most likely continue to change. I will explore several of the changes from print technology, to recording technology to computers and cellphones. Many years ago very few people knew how to read, it was not until printing technology was improved that everyone began to learn to read. Before printing began all books were printed by hand by specially skilled people and it took several months to finish just one book causing them to be very rare and expensive so that only the wealthiest people could afford them (Bernstein 109). After Gutenberg invented his printing press which had replaceable movable letters used like stamps causing more books to be printed at a time (Bellis). The number of books available greatly rose causing the price of the books to decrease drastically so that even the poorest people could afford them. With this change many people were able to learn how to read. With this new found knowledge the way we learned changed, before people had to remember everything and after printing began to be cheaper people did not have to remember like before they could just read and write to take notes. We then concluded that sex linked genes and autosomal genes could indeed be traced through from the parent generation to the F1 generation. The vial was then labeled accordingly with the type of cross (Male Vg, Female W) and the date. The date is important as the Drosophila complete a life cycle within approximately 2 weeks from the mating day. This vial became known as the parent generation or (P). The vial was then kept in a moderate temperature out of the sun and by the end of the first week the parent generation had laid eggs, hatched and the next generation were between the larva stage and the pupa stage. At this point, the parent generations was no longer required and were decanted out into ethyl alcohol, killed and disposed of. They did not need to be scored (inspected) as we already knew what they were. We then kept the vial with the juvenile Drosophila for another 2 weeks in the same conditions as above and found that the F1 generation had hatched and laid eggs of their own. We then decanted the F1 generation into alcohol to kill them and kept them aside to score. The vial containing the new generation F2 of Drosophila was then kept for use in a further experiment. For example, Henry David Thoreau, a lifelong contrarian who regularly ridiculed the conventional attitudes and values of his New England contemporaries (Calliscott, Ybarra). The people that did not care what people thought about their ideas were the ones that made this country a beautiful place. The character that Calliscott and Ybarra come off as to me is people who care about the history of this country and its wilderness. They include positive examples to help get there point across like, It was their God ordained destiny to transform the dismal American wilderness into an earthly paradise, governed according to the Word of God (Calliscott, Ybarra). The American wilderness was compared to a paradise and should be governed to the Word of God has a positive and biblical meaning because many people practice their religion as they please and comparing the wilderness to the Word of God is very ... • 32. Pathos For The Humane Society The advertisement I am doing is for The Humane Society Of The United States. The Humane Society is encouraging people to support and fund their organization to protect abused animals. This organization is important because they help animals who are cruelly abused and neglected. I am writing about this because it is important to treat animals with love and kindness. It does not matter if they are on four legs and can not speak, they still deserve to be treated as if they were children. This advertisement s primary appeal is pathos which is used to make a person emotional. When you see the animal shivering and filthy behind the bars it makes people emotional, the music is also dedicated to make a person feel emotional. These commercials make ... • 33. Role Of Internal Audit On The Organization Outside The... MEMO To: Non accounting specialists From: Miriam Lombe, Junior Accountant Cc: Finance Director Date: 15/12/2014 Subject: Role of Internal Audit It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to explain clearly the role of internal audit. Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help improve them. Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working. They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary. By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the organization well. Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of issues that are key to a company s survival ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. National And State Assembly Elections In Nepal We have seen nothing like this in Nepal in the past. I am talking about the upcoming national and state assembly elections. These elections might make or break democracy. The make part is easy to figure out. The elections will officially end the long political transition, convert the country de facto from a unitary state to federal, and mark the endorsement of the Constitution 2015 by the Madheshi parties. The Madheshi parties had refused to endorse the new constitution until their demands were met. They had asked for one state, and not more than two states, covering all 22 districts in the plains, but the major did not agree. So only 8 districts have been included in the Madheshi only State 2 (the states are yet to be named). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At stake are 275 seats in the federal parliament, 165 to be elected by the first past the post method and the rest from proportional representation. The number of State Assembly members will be twice as many in the same ratio. Which alliance enjoys the better prospects? In the 2013 general elections and recent local elections, the left parties were able to win nearly 60 percent seats up for the contest. If that ratio holds, the left alliance will likely be a clear winner in the upcoming national and state elections. However, the rebel candidates against the alliance candidates on both sides might not let the outcome to so straightforward. Whatever the outcome, the emergence of the left and the non left alliance is a good step in the right direction. If these alliances outlast the elections, it could be the beginning of a two party state, like in the United States and the United Kingdom, which will contribute to political stability and offer a clear choice for voters. But if the two alliances fail to become competitive, the break part will likely ensue, harming democracy and the country. Democratic elections make government representative and check it if it does not deliver or misbehaves. But they also create autocratic leaders on both left and right. For example, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini were members of socialist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. William Shakespeare s The Scarlet Letter Is Still Relevant... What do the following have in common; a capital A, the color red, and some words that require googling every other word? That s right the Scarlet Letter, of course it couldn t be anything else. Imagine a book where every word is in a dialect that is so foreign it might as well might be French. The words seem foreign as the vowels and constants start to blend in a wonderful shade of black and white, as tears begin to run down my face in frustration. That basically sums up the Scarlet Letter. This book was so awful, that even Shakespeare would be lost with the plot. Parts of my ignorant sophomore year were lost due to this book. The horrible part about all of this, is not all the sleepless nights rereading the terrible words, but actually; the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or it stems from being forced to do unreasonable things pertaining to the book. If the people in the class where asked about what book they wanted to read, they would be more inclined, instead of being forced to read a book. Being forced to read kills the drive to read said book. In my mind that is one way to bring back the love for the purest form of literacy, reading. The other way to bring back the thirst for reading; especially me; is to read stories of people now, instead of having our kids read about someone who is our age in school. If we study people who aren t dead, it brings with a connection the world that other dead authors didn t have. The writer of the Scarlet Letter was not born in the time period he wrote about but even he, would be surprised at the women of our current generation. Times are no longer the same as they were then, or later, I cannot connect to that. I get bored trying to figure out what the big deal is about the charcters in the story. I cannot relate to the issues they have in my current life. Life is always changing and evolving so I believe the wirtings in school should change too, not regress into the clonial era. The colonial era should never leave the history class, unless someone can relate to, or has an interest in. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
