Aristotle And Virtue
Aristotle and the Ethics of Virtue and Character explains the theories that make up a moral
situation. First, we have expectations for the outcome of a moral situation to be utilitarian or
sometimes produce another desirable result. We also have restraints that govern the actions we
make to produce those outcomes. Last, certain character traits define who is prepared to perform
the necessary actions and be content with the results. Aristotles The Moral Virtues explains how the
mean of an excess and a deficit is the virtue. It is nearly impossible to act perfectly within the mean,
which is why Aristotle recommends that one keep away from the extreme that is more opposed to
the mean, be wary of pleasant things, and notice the direction (toward excess or deficit) toward
which one, personally, will tend. Finally, in Habit and Virtue, Aristotle defines virtue as a result of
habituation. Character is developed through the repetition of activities, and therefore the aim of the

Mckenna, believes that flexibility is the most important virtue for a 3/C midshipman. He
explained this by noting the unique place of a third class in a company. First, a 3/C must use the
followership learned as a plebe in order to learn from the upperclassmen who run the company,
especially since the youngsters were shotgunned and are having to learn an entirely new
company system. But, along with following the 2/C and 1/C, a 3/C is immediately expected to
lead a plebe, which requires flexibility in itself. A 3/C must find the line between being a friend
and a superior to the plebe, sometimes switching between the roles. Mr. Mckenna sees the
increase in freedom of 3/C as a difficult increase in responsibility because you suddenly expected
to follow and lead but without as many people constantly watching. If a 3/C is rigid in her ways,
she will be unable to follow, learning a new company s ways, and unable to lead, changing her
ways to help develop someone other than

Intersection of Law and Ethics in Hong Kong
Intersection of Law and Ethics : Immigration Law, Right of abode in HKSAR
Introduction
This paper is to investigate the case of recent action taken by the Hong Kong Government to
suspend new bookings of obstetric service from non local pregnant women in public hospital,
especially to those mainland women, in order to protect right of Hong Kong women. The sudden
cut affects a group of mainland women with spouse as Hong Kong permanent residents and they
complain the injustice phenomenon, that arise ethical dilemma to discuss which is the aim of this
paper.
Background
The Hospital Authority in Hong Kong announced on 8 April, 2011 that public hospitals have
immediately stopped accepting new bookings of obstetric service from ... Show more content on

Despite various ethical problems arise, the Government has put its society interest, the value of
society economy, to the highest priority.
According to the Census and Statistics department, the cross border marriage between HK men
and mainland women was several times of increase since 2001 to 2006 . Although no direct
relationship, but it is likely that the cross border birth is in a trend of increase, too. Sadly that
the Government has ignored these families. First of all, as in the mainland maternity case in the
Court mentioned above, the HK father has to pay non local fee for his wife s obstetric services
in a HK public hospital, and then the right of abode of his babies will be deprived under the
recent rule enforced. The justice issue is not only a comparison among these families and those
purely HK parents , but also appear on those HK mothers and non local fathers, who are not under
the exclusion blanket of obstetric services, too. So both are mixed families but why the latter
families enjoy the right while the former are deprived?
If Ethics defines what is good for individual and society, and being justice is the concept of moral
rightness of an individual , then it is unethical to be injustice and depriving one s rights. In this case,
the HK Government is applying tighter rules on mainland mothers , at the same time restricting
those cross border families and also ignoring the justice in

Bedrock River
If a river flows over bedrock, the bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility which can distort
the shape of the bends in the river (Hooke and Yorke 2011). Substrate influences channel form at
the reach scale, with bedrock channel found to be narrower and deeper than alluvial channels
(Whitbread et al. 2015). This means that the substrate the riveris flowing over does have an effect
on what the river is doing. The bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility, which limits how
fast the river can meander. If the river is flowing over a substrate that is easily erodible, and then if
it erodes down to bedrock the river will become less sinuous.
Meandering rivers are not common in bedrock channels because bedrock channels are narrower
and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). The alluvial channels allow the river
channel to become wide and therefore the river is able to meander because its channel is so wide.
Changing the type of bedrock can influence the width and depth of the river (Whitbread et al.
2015). The maximum width/depth ratio decreases with increasing fracture spacing (Whitbread et
al. 2015). This is because the fractures create a weak spot in the rock that allows the river to erode
into those fractures. Adding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The substrate that the river flows over has an effect on the interaction between groundwater and the
bottom of the river. If the river is flowing over an impermeable substrate e.g. shale, mudstone, any
crystalline rock etc. and then erodes through that impermeable substrate the river could cease to
exist. The substrate has a major effect on the river. The substrate can determine what type of river is
formed, how much sediment the river is transporting, how much erosion is occurring in the river
etc. The substrate is a very import factor when anyone is studying a

Analyze The Underlying Causes Of World War 1
thesis:The underlying causes of World War I, were alliances, these created rivalries between
European countries, militarism that caused countries to spend large amounts on armaments,
nationalism in citizens and leaders that compelled them to fight, and propaganda cartoons.
Nationalism played an important role in World War I
, because some countries felt superior their
enemies. Colonel Dimitrevic, the head of the Serbian military and the founder of the Black
Hand secret society, explained, The war between Serbia and Austria... is inevitable... this war is
determined by our obligation to our traditions and the world of culture... our race... will not
permit itself to be assimilated (doc 6). Serbia did not want to fight in World War I. They were
forced to fight because the Black Hand society assassinated an Austrian prince, which led Austria

Russia, France, were in the triple entente (doc 3). When Serbia assassinated an Austrian prince and
unofficially started a war, Russia came to Serbia s aid. Then Germany helped out Austria, and
eventually all of the big powers in Europe had to fight for their allies. European countries blamed
countries that weren t in their alliance for the start of the war (doc 4). This means no one really
knew who started the fight, but they fought anyway because they were obligated. If there was not

Compare And Contrast Spencer And Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere,
which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and
unfit should be allowed to die. The theory was chiefly expounded by Herbert Spencer, whose
ethical philosophies always held an elitist view and received a boost from the application of
Darwinian ideas such as adaptation and natural selection.
Spencer and Social Darwinism
Herbert Spencer, the father of Social Darwinism as an ethical theory, was thinking in terms of
elitist, might makes right sorts of views long before Darwin published his theory. However,
Spencer quickly adapted Darwinian ideas to his own ethical theories. The concept of adaptation ...

In fact, the early Social Darwinists, who regarded the theory as a logical extension of laissez faire
capitalism, would have been appalled at the use of the concept to promote state run eugenics

Though its moral basis is now generally opposed, Social Darwinism did have some favorable
effects. Belief in Social Darwinism tended to discourage wanton handouts to the poor, favoring
instead providing resources for the fittest of all walks of life to use, or choosing specific, genuinely
deserving people as recipients of help and support. Some major capitalists, such as Andrew
Carnegie, combined philanthropy with Social Darwinism; he used his vast fortune to set up
hundreds of libraries and other public institutions, including a university, for the benefit of those
who would choose to avail themselves of such resources. He opposed direct and indiscriminate
handouts to the poor because he felt that this favored the undeserving and the deserving person

The polar bear, American alligator, green sea turtle, and the jaguar. What do these diverse animals

Act, is an act set in place to protect endangered or threatened animals. For over 43 years the ESA
has listed around 2,245 species, 43 of these are listed internationally ( Endangered SpeciesAct
(ESA) 1). Being listed means the animals are eligible for critical habitat designation ( Listing and

over the effectiveness of the act, and if it should be disbanded, altered, or left alone. In truth, the

Although, some argue that the act is only successful with 2 percent ( Endangered Species Act

supported by the ESA is the West Indian manatee. During the time the manatee was on the list, the
population in Florida had a 500% increase (Grinberg 2). Also, the ESA puts regulations in place to
protect the candidates for the list. They use privately owned grants and programs like, Candidate
Conservation Agreements and Candidate Conservation Agreements with Assurances ( U.S. Fish

successful with more than just the listed species, and should not be disbanded because of the great

Analysis Of They Live
They Live: Timely or Timeless? John Carpenter s 1988 film They Live is cult classic steeped in
1980 s America milieu. The film follows protagonist John Nada, played by professional wrestler
Roddy Piper. Nada, a hobo of sorts, rides the rails westward in search of work. The first scene of
the film finds our vagabond main character disembarking from his heavily discounted travel
arrangements, and strutting nonchalantly by foot into a nearby metropolis. Nada travels light.
All he has to his name is his pack, and a few changes of clothes, which never stray from, fitted
jeans, flannel shirt, and work boots, which tell you a lot about his line of work. Moreover, if his
attire is not a dead giveaway as to his chosen profession then his stature is. Nada is built like a
truck from years of labor intensive work with his hands, mostly in construction. He is the
embodiment of the working poor with an eighties macho twist. That twist being, on top of being
a physical specimen, he is also armed with catchy one liners, sports breathtaking hair that flirts
on mullet dom, and is an expert on every firearm he comes across. They Live does not stop there;
it gives us even more of what we have come to love about eighties action flicks. Is there a scene
where the main character finds a reason to take off his shirt to show us how ripped he is? Yes. Is
there a female love interest who uses too much hair spray? Yes again. Does the film have
countless gunfights where the good guy is shot at a thousand times and is never hit by a single
bullet? Furthermore, does one of those firefights end with a henchman being shot followed by
him awkwardly falling off the roof he was perched upon? It is the eighties, you bet your sweet
neon jacket it does. So, if They Live is flooded with dated camp then why is it so beloved? Well
besides being a film that highlights eighties style and tropes, it also puts a magnifying glass on
eighties America as a society as well. The cultural climate of the United States in the eighties can be
attributed to many factors, but a majority of the responsibility usually falls on one person in this
country the president. The president for the majority of the eighties was Ronald Reagan, the most
famous of the

Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance
Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays,
supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s
mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth
Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of
thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking,
gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson
s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of
nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of
others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general
public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of
thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although
looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on
these past acts only to repeat them without modification. Emerson further warns, a foolish
consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (3). Regarding consistency as foolish and the negative
connotation it carries conveys his strong opinion against it. A hobgoblin causes superstitious fear,
while at the same time this

Winston Salem Religion
I.Overview Earlier in the semester, we had the opportunity to attend the Interfaith Winston Salem

Winston Salem. Over the past ten years, Forsyth County has become increasingly diverse as
businesses flock to the triad, bringing people from all over the country and the world into one
community. This population boom has changed the religious landscape of Winston Salem. As
different religions continue to come together, it becomes increasingly necessary for people to

Women s Influence On Women
Women s fashion has been tremendously changing throughout the history. Women belonging from
different ethnic group had different fashion, even the women belonging from same ethnic group
followed different fashion depending on their race, cast, status or religion. Different clothing styles
have impacted the women in different ways; in different eras the character of women has been
determined by their clothingstyle. Similarly, clothing patterns of women in United States kept
changing throughout the time. Fashion has been reformed throughout the ages. Change in fashion
has reshaped the personalities of women. Particularly in nineteenth century, fashion played a
significant role in enforcing the existing definition of femininity, it had a notable effect on women s
health; however, the reformation of the fashion redefined femininity.
In the early nineteenth century, the prevailing definition of femininity was enforced by the way
women used to dress up. According to Torrens (1999), the ideal characteristics of women were to
be submissive, pious, home oriented, and pure which were restricted by and enforced by different
means of fashion. Women s body became a main point to maintain the ideology of feminism.
Cultural definition of feminism reduced the opportunities for women to work outside the home.
The disturbance in everyday life, which was created when the women used to work in war industry,
and the belief system of United States made the women caretaker of home, since the

The Unified Science Center At Stockton For My Project
I decided to choose the Unified Science Center at Stockton for my project because it is easily
accessible to me, it is fairly new and as a business major student, I found the building to be very
impressive. We business majors don t have a place to hang out or a quiet place to talk to people in
our major. I normally just see people in the library or in the hallway and if we have to do
schoolwork we just go to a computer lab. However, the Science and Math majors have a building
full of labs and classrooms. In my opinion I felt like Stockton was trying to one up the Arts
building with another new building. The two buildings are similar in the way they both function.
The Art building is a good place for the Art majors to get creative for their assignments and while
these students are surrounded by artwork they could feel more of an impact from the atmosphere.
The Science Center is a good place to apply what the Science students have learned in class and
apply it in a laboratory.
Stockton University built this building to attract more science students. I think EYP did a great
job designing the building. If you never entered the building before, you can just look at it from
the outside and just tell that it is a building designed for Science majors. The building itself does
not have many classrooms, but instead it has a lot of laboratories with state of the art equipment.
On the inside of the building it has a piece of artwork called the wave hanging from the second
floor and

Depression And Mental Illness
When one thinks of an illness, most individuals picture a visible decline in one s physical health.
Individuals picture a person coughing, sneezing, or vomiting; however, not all illnesses are
outwardly shown. Depression is a mental illness. Mental illnesses are not illnesses that can be seen
just by glancing at an individual; nonetheless, they are just as harmful and detrimental as physical
ailments. According to Healthy People 2020, depression is one of the most common forms of
mental illness(Reeves et al 2011). Depression affects individuals of all ages, but it is especially
prominent in college students. Research has also shown that approximately 1 in 12 adults have

Depression has been identified as the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of
burden (Whisman 2015). The result of depression can lead to deteriorated relationships, poor
academic outcomes, and low outlook on life. Likewise, depression has been shown to increase
the likelihood of chronic diseases in an individual. Depression increases one s probability of
diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and obesity (Office of Disease Prevention and
Health Promotion 2017). Depression can also have a more serious ramification. This illness does
not cause death, however, untreated this illness can lead to suicide. Suicide is the 10th leading
cause of death in the United States (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion 2017) and
the 3rd leading cause of death in individuals aged 15 24 (Smith 2015). Suicide can occur as a result
of many different situations, but negative mental health is a common precursor. It was found that
approximately 1,110 college students commit suicide per year (Smith 2015). This alarming
statistic solidifies college students need for help. Like other mental illnesses, depression can be a
life long battle. Depression, along with other chronic illnesses, is expensive. This illness not only
creates emotional detriment, but also enables economic hardship as well. According to Healthy
People 2020, depression causes psychosocial and economic costs not only for people living with
the disorder, but also for their families, schools, workplaces, and communities (Office of Disease

Comparing The Birth Stories In The Gospels Of Matthew And...
Compare and contrast the birth stories in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. How do the
differences set up distinct theological emphases in each Gospel?
The foundation of the Christian faith is cradled within truth of the virgin birth, life, and resurrection
of Jesus Christ. As diverse as the world wide Christian culture is, the truth in the birth and life of
Jesus stands without border and language limitations. Just as each individual life story can be
adapted to be relevant for a variety of audiences, the birth story of the Messiah was also. The
Gospels of Matthew and Luke are an example of the well rounded and diverse narration of the
birth story of Jesus Matthew s narration spoke to the history of the Jewish people and Luke
presented to the citizen of Rome.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the focus on the Jewish genealogy of Jesus played a significant role in the
birth story. To fully understand Jesus, it was imperative to first acknowledge who Jesus was within
Jewish ancestry and his subsequent position as King of the Jews. Jewish tradition passed down the
oral and written story of Messianic prophecies for generations. To provide the correlation between
the anticipated Messiah and the fulfillment through Jesus, Matthew affirmed prophecies throughout
the birth story with two significant fulfillments Abraham s promised seed [offspring] and the virgin
birth.

discuss the various forms of covert action and assess each discussed covert actions utility and
value in the modern era. Additionally, an example of one of the forms of covert action will be
provided. Political propaganda is one form of covert action. The intent of political propaganda is to
influence a nations citizens regarding the nation s politicians, economy, political situation, and/or

favorable opinion of the United States, to creating demonstrations and strikes against political
foes or for friendly political parties. Again, these types of covert action have been successful in
the past. However, unlike political propaganda covert actions, political activities covert actions can
still be successful in today s world. This is primarily because in the areas where the United States
would utilize such covert actions, those nations typically blame the United States anytime a
particular political activity does not goes as planned. Therefore, the nations that would place the

The Safety For Illegal Aliens
Safety for Illegal Aliens From January to August 2014 over 200 sanctuary cities released some

So apparently in reality, funding cuts won t do much to stop these cities from resisting ICE.
Something needs to be done in order to prevent these cities and their politicians from resisting the

own citizens who live there as well. On July 1, 2015 in San Francisco, CA, a well known

undocumented illegal alien Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez. Before his arrest after killing Steinle,
Lopez Sanchez had been convicted of seven felonies and been deported five times ( Sanctuary

Seeing Clearly People often say one must distance them self in order to see more clearly, but
have you ever wondered how true this saying is? How much do we really miss by being so close
and involved? How aware are we of our flaws as humans? Gulliver s Travels, written by Jonathan
Swift, follows Lemuel Gulliver on numerous journeys on and around the high seas. After Gulliver

Free Will In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange
The freedom of choice and the rehabilitating form of corrections secures the domain of A
Clockwork Orange by Burgess. It produces the question about a mans free will and the ability to
choose ones destiny good or evil.
Burgess emphasize the thought that man can not be completely good or evil and must have both
in order to create a moral choice . The book is based on revamping a criminal with only good
morals and programing an automated response to evil. If he can only perform good or only
perform evil, then he is a clockwork orange meaning that he has the appearance of an organism

This was one type of tendon problem: Tendonitis. De Quervain tendonitis, for instance, in the wrist.
Tendinosis
Second tendon problem that occurs invariably with athletic activity, especially when starting is
tendinosis.
It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased
loads.
A normal process, but nonetheless painful.
How is that?
Think about growing pains in children.
If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually
in the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence.
Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way.
How does this problem manifest itself?
Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures).
Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated.
So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to
bother!
It s normal.
Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months.
This is again not abnormal.

The Mexican Revolution Of Mexico And The United States Essay
During the Mexican Revolution there were many prominent figures that emerged during the long
struggle. Some of the figures had a positive impact on the region, and some others a very negative
impact on the people of Mexico and their quest for an uncorrupted government. One figure that
stands out in the border region between Mexicoand The United States during this time is General
Francisco Pancho Villa. To understand Pancho Villa s significant role during this uprising it is
important to understand who Villa was prior to the revolution, and what acts lead to his rise to
power.
Francisco Pancho Villa (born Doroteo Arango on June 5th, 1878) was known as a bandit prior
to his life as a Mexican General. Villa was born to sharecropper parents on a hacienda in San
Juan Del Rio, Durango, Mexico. After the death of his father, Villa only in his teens became the
head of his family. Villa soon found himself on the run from the law and the Haciendas owner
after he shot the man in the foot after an altercation over Villa s sister; this is what led to him
initially becoming an outlaw. While on the run as a fugitive Villa adapted other well known
bandito ways of making money including robbing haciendas, and sticking up wealthy mine
owners, this is also when he officially dropped Arango and only used Francisco Pancho Villa
(Katz, 1998). Some bits of folklore can be found when describing Villa s actions during this time
period. There are tales of him acting like a Robin

the characters Kyle and Deborah. Rejection begins with the introduction of Deborah, a
businesswoman in her late twenties, riding in a Uber to a hotel for a business trip. She appears to
be distant and in a rush, yet kind at heart. After arriving and checking in at the hotel, she begins to
get ready for her first meeting only to be interrupted by a phone call from her husband Kyle.

Deborah pushes back at every suggestion. As the conversation ensues, there are three periodic cut
aways that detail John s various stages of treatment. Kyle begins the questions feeling hopeful
about his friend and ends feeling disdained due to his wife s disconnection. Deborah informs Kyle
that she needs to go and she hangs up.
The next scene begins with a man sitting in a wheelchair in the radiation room with a phone to his
head. The camera pulls out to reveal that the man waiting for his next treatment is Kyle and that he
was actually John in the previous scenes. Then Deborah receives a call from the hospital informing
her that her husband is behind on his payments for his radiation treatments. The film ends with
Kyle receiving a call from his wife and before he can do anything, it cuts to black.
Kyle creates a fictitious situation using his friend John to both test the waters and deflect the task
of telling Deborah about his cancer. In the end, he assumes his wife wouldn t abide well with a

to be the character in the wrong, however, it is Kyle s personal flaws that exacerbate her vices.

Christian Brothers Academy
I can surely say that my senior year would not be nearly as enjoyable without the GURU program.
The ability to facilitate an engaging discussion with not one but two groups of freshmen at
Christian Brothers Academy is something I look forward to every cycle. By discussing some
relatively controversial subject topics with these freshmen, I put myself in a role model position,
one to influence positive decision making in order for these kids to make their own transition into
AcademyMen, to really make the most out of their four years at CBA. I have learned a lot about
the ten freshmen that I oversee. I can say that I know each of them pretty well now. But finally, I

Also, it definitely affects my worldview with God and my Christian morality in the context of a
LaSallian school. We owe everything that we have become to God, and personally I owe a lot
to Christian Brothers Academy for making me the Academy Man that I am today. Moreover, I
see myself as a liaison between these freshmen and the CBA faculty, staff, and family in order
for them to eventually transform themselves in their lives while keeping God as a major focus.
By embracing my own self value through Christian morality, I must also encourage these
freshmen that they are valuable because of their relationship with God in this LaSallian school,
exemplifying the teachings of St. John Baptist de La Salle. As an example, Peck States in The
Road Less Traveled, this feeling of being valuable is a cornerstone of self discipline because
when one considers oneself valuable one will take care of oneself in all ways that are necessary.
Self discipline is self caring (Peck 24). Self discipline is so important in my own life, and I look
to teach the freshmen the importance of it as well. My own relationship with God is one based on
self caring, the petitioning for forgiveness and the constant gratification that goes along with it.

So if the market isn t affected by which way you obtain the information, why is one way illegal and
the other legal when it is the exact same information?
For example, if I overheard a conversation by a CEO (or even if the CEO told me directly)
revealing a morsel of information pertaining to their business that had not become available to the
public yet, that would be an illegal piece of information to trade on. On the other hand, if I went to
that CEO s business every day and interviewed their customers or managers and my efforts turned
up the same information, that information would be absolutely legal to trade on because it was the
product of research even though it is the same exact information that was obtained by the CEO in
the first place.
Victimless Crime
There is no guarantee that there is always a victim of insider trading, more often than not, there is
actually no victim at all. When a person trades on the market, whether using legally obtained
information or illegally obtained information, they have no idea who is on the receiving end of
their trade. That person trading does not in any way have a direct impact on other people and
whether or not they are interested in buying or selling and that does not matter whether it is legally
obtained information or illegally obtained information or whether the trading party profits or loses.
The person who is initiating the trade is solely doing it

Italian Film and Neorealism
Italian Neorealism, a movement that focused on the arts began in 19th century post war Italy and
became the repository of partisan hopes for social justice in the post war italian state. (Marcus, xiv)
Even before the war, Italy had been under the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini and his corrupt form
of government, Fascism, which caused oppression throughout the country. Neorealistic films
allowed filmmakers to use common styles and techniques to finally reveal the world filled with
anguish and misery that Mussolini had created. These films allowed the rebirth of Italywith the new
ideals of freedom and social order. Some directors choose to add melodramatic elements to their
neorealistic film which goes against Neorealism s goal to project the Italy in its real form.
However, although Rome Open City by Roberto Rosselliniand Bitter Rice by DeSantis have classic
hollywood narrative characteristics, the portrayal of women and children represent neorealist
principles that help us further understand the struggles and conflicts of women and children during
post war Italy.
The concept of Italian Neorealism includes location shooting, natural lighting, lengthy takes, the
superior use of medium and long shots, the use of non professional actors which would include the
individuals natural dialect, and the avoidance of any major editing to provide the viewer with a
more real quality. (Marcus 22) On the other hand, a classic hollywood narrative, also known as

I Know About Breeding A Dog Essay
In 2015 for christmas I had recieved a female Australian Shepherd puppy. She is a blue merle with
brown eyes. When I first got her I loved her and couldn t wait for her to be old and have puppies of
her own. What I didn t understand is how difficult of a process it was to get a dog bred. I didn t
know the first thing about breeding a dog. However if I wanted my dog to have puppies then I
needed to learn about it.
I know that a dog comes in heat roughly every six months. I know it is during that time period
the they would get bred. Some things I have heard from my family was that a bitch has to be bred
at certain times. They will only stand and allow breeding a certain numbers of days. I have no
knowledge of when that takes place. I know that a bitch s cycle can last for weeks. The only way I
would know when my dog needs bred is to put her in with a male and see if she allows him to
breed her.
When you don t have a male dog that is hard to do. Picking a male for her is a hard task. When
breeding Australian Shepherd you have to be cautious about which types are bred. I know that
you should not breed a merle to a merle because it cause defects. I am not for sure why this happens
so picking a dog needs to be done carefully.
Section II
When researching my question the first thing that needs to be looked up is a partner. I first looked
up the proper partner for a blue merle. Australian Shepherds can only be breed between certain
type. If the wrong ones are bred it can

Reflection Of The Incredibles
The Incredibles is more than a hero s journey; it also explores the ties between faith and family.
Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film
through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular
Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological,
mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense
semantically but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in
which viewers can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens.
With this information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The
Incredibles, has left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the
gifts that God has given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly
embraced the gifts that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts,
we see them flourish.
Imagine living in a time when superheroes are shunned for saving people; when helping people is

the exit from the EU, the claim is Britain, among other things, will have better business regulations,
immigration control, and trade agreements. Ultimately, those in favor of leaving the EU, are
seeking an economic and policy independence.

The European Union is a union of 28 nations who have relinquished part of their sovereignty to EU
institutions such as the European Parliament, European Council, and European Central Bank.
Formed in 1993, the EU sought to further improve members economies and establish European

Today’s society thinks that a size zero woman and a man...
Today s society thinks that a size zero woman and a man with perfect six pack abs is the ideal
look. Why is that? That is because the media shoves it in their viewers faces at any chance they
get. In recent years, society s standards have become much thinner. This makes it more difficult
for women and men to reach the ideal body image. The desire for perfection is unrealistic and
even dangerous. This generation is purely based off of the media. The media puts these crazy
ideas out there and society takes it without any questions. The media will do whatever is takes to
sell their products, and they see showing off good looking, fit women or men with their product is
the best way to do just that. Clothing advertisements are a major... Show more content on

The commercial starts off by saying, Do you have the body you ve always dreamed of? As they
are saying this, it shows Khloe lying on a bed in only a white t shirt, making sure they are
showing off her long, slim, tanned body. The commercial is trying to push the viewers to buy
this product so they can look exactly like the Kardashians. The commercial goes on to say to the
viewers that they can change their body and that they deserve a better body. Kim Kardashian
goes on to show off her toned stomach by getting out of a pool in a little bikini. The commercial
ends by Kim saying, How hot can you be? QuickTrim live your dream. By saying this, it makes
women feel that they need to be a size small to be beautiful and that their goal in life should be to
shrink themselves to fit what the media feels is beautiful (QuickTrim). Hydroxycut is another
weight loss solution claiming to better their customers lives. The commercial has background
music singing the words I wanna live free saying that by being thin one now has freedom that they
didn t have before. As the music is playing, it begins showing a various number of their customers
dancing in their brand new, perfect bodies holding a picture of their old self. It also shows how
many pounds they have lost from their product. Many weight loss products that show before and
after pictures photoshop the pictures and just use actors. The weight loss company wants to make

Why Is Odd Thomas Important

These special abilities give him the power to help the dead get the justice they deserve. With his
girlfriend Stormy by his side and the local sheriff watching his back, Odd is able to accomplish
remarkable things. Based on the bestselling novelwritten by Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas is sure to
have those watching on the edge of their seat. It is a story much more than just being able to see
the dead. Dean Koontz himself said that Odd Thomas is about perseverance in the face of terrible
loss, about holding fast to rational hope in a world of pain, about finding peace not... Show more

When they show up, it is almost certain that death is near. After digging a little deeper, one will
find that Koontz knew what he was doing when he picked this name. It is an old Scottish term
that is now commonly referred to as the bogeyman. In an article written by Matt Staggs, this was
proven to be a fact. He goes to say that Even in Scottish folklore, they can appear as omens of
death. It is the tiny details like this that make a film stand out from others, and Sommers did an
excellent job of creating these scary little monsters. They instill a sense of fear in the audience
whenever they turn up and represent the horror that would soon take over Pico Mundo.
With all the seriousness going on, Sommers somehow manages to throw in a little bit of humor
to keep things light by introducing the dead that linger. For whatever reason, some of the dead
decide not to move on, and their spirits stay trapped with the living. It is always nice to have a
bit of comedy mixed into thriller movies, because then you start to become more relaxed. It is
easier to be caught off guard if you are enjoying yourself, and the best part of thrillers is to not
expect what the outcome will

Peter Parker Character Analysis
The new saga to the already seemed endless sequels of the Spider man series is an acceptance
and relationship movie. A time in which Peter Parker s maturation involves him being able to
control his superpowers is connected to how he can control his own sense of self. The film s main
subject is clear and plain, a young superheros abuse of his powers in order to show off, become
popular, and most importantly, impress a girl in his high school. The hero attempts to overcome
obstacles that he has never faced on his own because of the low amount of trust that is given to
him. Not surprisingly, the hero learns better after almost costing many people s lives including
his own. An incredibly gifted and young Queens high school sophomore, Peter Parker (played by
Tom Holland) is still halfway between fantasy and childhood. He stills play legos with his best pal
Ned (Jacob Batalon) after school. Peter is still particularly challenged when having the choice to
use his superpowers in which he exploits profoundly. Peter intentionally exploits his powers against
the wishes of his mentor Tony Stark (Robert DowneyJr.) who believes that he is not ready for
them in order to hopefully be accepted by the Avengers and to win the heart of his senior love
Liz (Laura Harrier). Peter only wants to be accepted and when he is not he feels as if he has the
urge to prove himself to them. It comes as no surprise that the intelligent and amazing Tony Stark is
also the hero of this tale.

Whistleblowing And Its Effect On National Security
The concept of whistleblowing in modern days differs from citizens to public servants. From
citizens perspective, this action is perceived positively because it promotes the public good, and
for most public servants, this action is perceived negatively because it damages the reputation of
the organization and can ultimately jeopardize national security. The level of importance that is
given to whistleblowing depends on its nature, its political context, and how the media portrays it.
In the Off Road Vehicles in Hoosier National Forest case, the supervisor made decisions oblivious
to the facts presented by his staff and scientists opinions. The Hoosier National Forest s (HNF)
supervisor Girton created a conflict due to his lack of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The motivation will determine how the public perceives the whistleblowing. The supervisor was
motivated by personal incentives. For example, his two children received trail bikes from American
Motorcycle Association (AMA) (O Leary, p.70). There could be more discussion about conflict of
interest on his part, and subsequently the reason of no reaching an outcome that goes according to
the regulations and the law. On the other hand, Ferguson was motivated to become a whistleblower
when he observed that Girton s personal interests collide with public interests. Not only the
decision of allowing ORV in protected lands in 1971, but the consequences it would bring for
the National Forest Service Agency, the organization that he belonged since 1940. He had
stepped down from the position of forest supervisor when he married another service employee.
This shows he was concerned with any ethical implication that emerged from this relationship in
the workplace (O Leary, 69). Ferguson proved to be a person of good character and integrity as
well as a highly experienced professional in the environmental field. With Girton s approval of
ORV trails a policy that allowed limited use of the vehicles in a small number of approved areas
Ferguson felt that the organization was being misrepresented and taking a path that did not serve its
mission. Therefore, he arrived to the conclusion of changing the path and setting up an example for
the future;

The vocal quality of Toby Mac really does need to be emphasized, and his ability to possess a
note and deliver with a conviction that allows him to dip into any number of genres with ease
and gusto is second to none. DC Talk fans get pumped, because the old gang is back together on
Love Feels Like. Filled with strategic cuts, intentional beats and bold vocals, it s everything you

argument that can defeat God, it interchanges between deep beats and minimal backing vocals,
to cultivate a sacred feeling that makes this song transcend across cultures and time. The
addition of a children s choir all enforces this. Bringing the tempo to a faster pace with Lift You

times. For the first time on this record we get to hear Toby let it rip vocally, and between this and

The Second Elegy
Chapter One
Bad love is better than no love? Can t buy it. Don t want to buy it. Eve spoke in a clipped fashion
as she walked hurriedly along the downtown street with her longtime friend, Shirley. Both women
were of strong bearing and fierce countenance.
Eve was a single, auburn haired, thirty eight year old professor of esoteric studies at the University
of Aztlan. Men, far and wide and from all walks of life, described her as a bronze skinned, magical
beauty, emotionally weathered but determined. Her life continuously hung in the balance, an
unnerving play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bad love is no love, Shirley no love at all. Her blood pressure rose, heat and tingling along her
neck and ears. She needed to say more about Shirley s bullshit idea. She didn t want it stuck in her
head. Whatever she didn t speak up about stayed stuck, and kept going round and round, so she
didn t like it one bit when she let that infernal fly keep up its mental buzzing.
She couldn t stop herself. Goddammit, Shirley. There s more to love than illusion. I ll clear
through the junk and find the real thing. If this thing is junk, I m not going to ride it for the thrill. I
need to trash what s trash. Fantasies are just that, fantasies. I want what s real. Doesn t have to be
perfect just real.
Eve was the softer of the two friends, but whenever Shirley got under her skin, she got fired up.
She couldn t let wrong mindedness and messed up thinking pass, wouldn t compromise principle.
Eve wouldn t stop herself from saying what she needed to say when she needed to say it, lest a
twisted notion keep itself hidden and locked away in Shirley s mind, and then spring up like a
jack in the box nightmare, playing out a terrifying relational scenario because she didn t say no
when she needed

Descriptive Essay About The Forest
The Forest When The laughter started I knew I should run, but I didn t. why? I don t remember,
but that doesn t matter, now that I m dead anyway; So let s get on with how this happened. I was
in the woods walking around while the party was going. I started to get a feeling someone was
watching me, someone probably was, I thought. There were people all around me they were all
from the party, I knew this because I saw a lot of people walk in here before I did to find... never
mind. I started hearing sticks cracking. Nothing To be afraid of but it did creep me out a little.
After only a minute or two was when I started to hear it; The child. The laughs got louder the
light shifted it was much darker than a minute ago, no, no, ten seconds ago. It looked like the
beginning of night time, not the light of early evening when I first arrived to the party. What
time was it? I check my watch, 7:47 pm no, definitely not right. As the laughs got louder I started
to think are they messing with me? No, the laughs sound to close right in front of me. I started to
to walk back to the party it was over I was not going to find... no I must get back maybe they are
already back. Then I heard a scream, I ran. The light seemed to get darker as I ran, then I heard a
boom and a blinding light flashed close to me, was that lighting? I ran as fast as I could. The wind
picked up and was blowing strong gusts my way the pine trees blowing the sent up my nostrils, and
there was something else to the

Why Not Have A Co-President Instead Of A Vice President
Vice President Everyone is familiar with the president of the United States and his role in the
government, but not is as familiar with the vice president. Believe it or not, the vice president has
more responsibilities than take over, if an accident happens to the president. Three Vice Presidents
in particular have recently molded the office: Al Gore, Dick Cheney, and Joe Biden. Why not have
a co presidentinstead of a vice president anyway? If that were the case, things could be devastating.
According to the Constitution of the United States, there are only two specified roles of the vice
president. One of them enables the vice president to be the deciding vote in the case of a tie in the
Senate. The other specified role requires

The Madness of War
War is the epitome of cruelty and violence, an experience that can prove maddening and strip away
some of the most intrinsic characteristics of humanity. Kurt Vonnegut s experiences as a prisoner of
war during World War II inspired his critically hailed novel Slaughterhouse Five (1969), in which
characters continually search for meaning in the aftermath of mankind s irrational cruelty ( Kurt
Vonnegut: 1922 2007 287). Both the main character, Billy Pilgrim, and Vonnegut have been in
Dresdenfor the firebombing, and that is what motivates their narrative (Klinkowitz 335). In his anti
war novel Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut expresses the adverse emotional effects of war
through the psyche of Billy Pilgrim.
Vonnegut s distinct style... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emotional separation that Billy experiences is a direct result of the awfulness he faces in war.
Billy encounters countless atrocities and absurdities in his life and his war experiences that all
contribute to his mental withdrawal and deterioration. The horrors of Dresden, including death,
senseless cruelty, and absurd injustice, make up the panorama of violence and inhumanity that
defines Pilgrim s world (Broer 70). All of this violence and death around him leads to his descent
into schizophrenia and insanity. Billy becomes increasingly crippled by the psychologically
damaging blows he receives during the war causing him to withdraw from reality and ultimately
lose his sanity (Broer 70). Billy s prisoner of war experience is a nightmare of victimization and
madness described as an acrimonious madrigal, . . . everybody, seemingly, had an atrocity story of
something Billy Pilgrim had done to him in his sleep (Vonnegut 100). Broer states that Billy and
everyone around him exhibit some form of insane, mechanically conditioned behavior, that which is
overtly aggressive, or that which allows aggression to happen (73).
The most traumatic horrors of war to Billy, however, are the destruction of Dresden and the death
of his best friend, Edgar Derby. These events

  • 3. Aristotle And Virtue Aristotle and the Ethics of Virtue and Character explains the theories that make up a moral situation. First, we have expectations for the outcome of a moral situation to be utilitarian or sometimes produce another desirable result. We also have restraints that govern the actions we make to produce those outcomes. Last, certain character traits define who is prepared to perform the necessary actions and be content with the results. Aristotles The Moral Virtues explains how the mean of an excess and a deficit is the virtue. It is nearly impossible to act perfectly within the mean, which is why Aristotle recommends that one keep away from the extreme that is more opposed to the mean, be wary of pleasant things, and notice the direction (toward excess or deficit) toward which one, personally, will tend. Finally, in Habit and Virtue, Aristotle defines virtue as a result of habituation. Character is developed through the repetition of activities, and therefore the aim of the ... He explained this by noting the unique place of a third class in a company. First, a 3/C must use the followership learned as a plebe in order to learn from the upperclassmen who run the company, especially since the youngsters were shotgunned and are having to learn an entirely new company system. But, along with following the 2/C and 1/C, a 3/C is immediately expected to lead a plebe, which requires flexibility in itself. A 3/C must find the line between being a friend and a superior to the plebe, sometimes switching between the roles. Mr. Mckenna sees the increase in freedom of 3/C as a difficult increase in responsibility because you suddenly expected to follow and lead but without as many people constantly watching. If a 3/C is rigid in her ways, she will be unable to follow, learning a new company s ways, and unable to lead, changing her ways to help develop someone other than ... Intersection of Law and Ethics in Hong Kong Intersection of Law and Ethics : Immigration Law, Right of abode in HKSAR Introduction This paper is to investigate the case of recent action taken by the Hong Kong Government to suspend new bookings of obstetric service from non local pregnant women in public hospital, especially to those mainland women, in order to protect right of Hong Kong women. The sudden cut affects a group of mainland women with spouse as Hong Kong permanent residents and they complain the injustice phenomenon, that arise ethical dilemma to discuss which is the aim of this paper. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite various ethical problems arise, the Government has put its society interest, the value of society economy, to the highest priority. According to the Census and Statistics department, the cross border marriage between HK men and mainland women was several times of increase since 2001 to 2006 . Although no direct relationship, but it is likely that the cross border birth is in a trend of increase, too. Sadly that the Government has ignored these families. First of all, as in the mainland maternity case in the Court mentioned above, the HK father has to pay non local fee for his wife s obstetric services in a HK public hospital, and then the right of abode of his babies will be deprived under the recent rule enforced. The justice issue is not only a comparison among these families and those purely HK parents , but also appear on those HK mothers and non local fathers, who are not under the exclusion blanket of obstetric services, too. So both are mixed families but why the latter families enjoy the right while the former are deprived? If Ethics defines what is good for individual and society, and being justice is the concept of moral rightness of an individual , then it is unethical to be injustice and depriving one s rights. In this case, the HK Government is applying tighter rules on mainland mothers , at the same time restricting those cross border families and also ignoring the justice in ... • 6. Bedrock River If a river flows over bedrock, the bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility which can distort the shape of the bends in the river (Hooke and Yorke 2011). Substrate influences channel form at the reach scale, with bedrock channel found to be narrower and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). This means that the substrate the riveris flowing over does have an effect on what the river is doing. The bedrock restricts widening and lateral mobility, which limits how fast the river can meander. If the river is flowing over a substrate that is easily erodible, and then if it erodes down to bedrock the river will become less sinuous. Meandering rivers are not common in bedrock channels because bedrock channels are narrower and deeper than alluvial channels (Whitbread et al. 2015). The alluvial channels allow the river channel to become wide and therefore the river is able to meander because its channel is so wide. Changing the type of bedrock can influence the width and depth of the river (Whitbread et al. 2015). The maximum width/depth ratio decreases with increasing fracture spacing (Whitbread et al. 2015). This is because the fractures create a weak spot in the rock that allows the river to erode into those fractures. Adding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compare And Contrast Spencer And Social Darwinism Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere, which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and unfit should be allowed to die. The theory was chiefly expounded by Herbert Spencer, whose ethical philosophies always held an elitist view and received a boost from the application of Darwinian ideas such as adaptation and natural selection. Belief in Social Darwinism tended to discourage wanton handouts to the poor, favoring instead providing resources for the fittest of all walks of life to use, or choosing specific, genuinely deserving people as recipients of help and support. Some major capitalists, such as Andrew Carnegie, combined philanthropy with Social Darwinism; he used his vast fortune to set up hundreds of libraries and other public institutions, including a university, for the benefit of those who would choose to avail themselves of such resources. • 10. Analysis Of They Live They Live: Timely or Timeless? John Carpenter s 1988 film They Live is cult classic steeped in 1980 s America milieu. The film follows protagonist John Nada, played by professional wrestler Roddy Piper. Nada, a hobo of sorts, rides the rails westward in search of work. The first scene of the film finds our vagabond main character disembarking from his heavily discounted travel arrangements, and strutting nonchalantly by foot into a nearby metropolis. Nada travels light. All he has to his name is his pack, and a few changes of clothes, which never stray from, fitted jeans, flannel shirt, and work boots, which tell you a lot about his line of work. Moreover, if his attire is not a dead giveaway as to his chosen profession then his stature is. Nada is built like a truck from years of labor intensive work with his hands, mostly in construction. He is the embodiment of the working poor with an eighties macho twist. That twist being, on top of being a physical specimen, he is also armed with catchy one liners, sports breathtaking hair that flirts on mullet dom, and is an expert on every firearm he comes across. They Live does not stop there; it gives us even more of what we have come to love about eighties action flicks. Is there a scene where the main character finds a reason to take off his shirt to show us how ripped he is? Yes. Is there a female love interest who uses too much hair spray? Yes again. Does the film have countless gunfights where the good guy is shot at a thousand times and is never hit by a single bullet? Furthermore, does one of those firefights end with a henchman being shot followed by him awkwardly falling off the roof he was perched upon? It is the eighties, you bet your sweet neon jacket it does. So, if They Live is flooded with dated camp then why is it so beloved? Well besides being a film that highlights eighties style and tropes, it also puts a magnifying glass on eighties America as a society as well. The cultural climate of the United States in the eighties can be attributed to many factors, but a majority of the responsibility usually falls on one person in this country the president. The president for the majority of the eighties was Ronald Reagan, the most famous of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays, supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking, gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on these past acts only to repeat them without modification. Emerson further warns, a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (3). Regarding consistency as foolish and the negative connotation it carries conveys his strong opinion against it. • 14. Women s Influence On Women Women s fashion has been tremendously changing throughout the history. Women belonging from different ethnic group had different fashion, even the women belonging from same ethnic group followed different fashion depending on their race, cast, status or religion. Different clothing styles have impacted the women in different ways; in different eras the character of women has been determined by their clothingstyle. Similarly, clothing patterns of women in United States kept changing throughout the time. Fashion has been reformed throughout the ages. Change in fashion has reshaped the personalities of women. Particularly in nineteenth century, fashion played a significant role in enforcing the existing definition of femininity, it had a notable effect on women s health; however, the reformation of the fashion redefined femininity. In the early nineteenth century, the prevailing definition of femininity was enforced by the way women used to dress up. According to Torrens (1999), the ideal characteristics of women were to be submissive, pious, home oriented, and pure which were restricted by and enforced by different means of fashion. Women s body became a main point to maintain the ideology of feminism. Cultural definition of feminism reduced the opportunities for women to work outside the home. The Unified Science Center At Stockton For My Project I decided to choose the Unified Science Center at Stockton for my project because it is easily accessible to me, it is fairly new and as a business major student, I found the building to be very impressive. We business majors don t have a place to hang out or a quiet place to talk to people in our major. I normally just see people in the library or in the hallway and if we have to do schoolwork we just go to a computer lab. However, the Science and Math majors have a building full of labs and classrooms. In my opinion I felt like Stockton was trying to one up the Arts building with another new building. The two buildings are similar in the way they both function. The Art building is a good place for the Art majors to get creative for their assignments and while these students are surrounded by artwork they could feel more of an impact from the atmosphere. The Science Center is a good place to apply what the Science students have learned in class and apply it in a laboratory. Stockton University built this building to attract more science students. I think EYP did a great job designing the building. If you never entered the building before, you can just look at it from the outside and just tell that it is a building designed for Science majors. The building itself does not have many classrooms, but instead it has a lot of laboratories with state of the art equipment. Individuals picture a person coughing, sneezing, or vomiting; however, not all illnesses are outwardly shown. Depression is a mental illness. Mental illnesses are not illnesses that can be seen just by glancing at an individual; nonetheless, they are just as harmful and detrimental as physical ailments. According to Healthy People 2020, depression is one of the most common forms of mental illness(Reeves et al 2011). Depression increases one s probability of diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and obesity (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion 2017). Some of the figures had a positive impact on the region, and some others a very negative impact on the people of Mexico and their quest for an uncorrupted government. One figure that stands out in the border region between Mexicoand The United States during this time is General Francisco Pancho Villa. To understand Pancho Villa s significant role during this uprising it is important to understand who Villa was prior to the revolution, and what acts lead to his rise to power. Francisco Pancho Villa (born Doroteo Arango on June 5th, 1878) was known as a bandit prior to his life as a Mexican General. Villa was born to sharecropper parents on a hacienda in San Juan Del Rio, Durango, Mexico. After the death of his father, Villa only in his teens became the head of his family. Villa soon found himself on the run from the law and the Haciendas owner after he shot the man in the foot after an altercation over Villa s sister; this is what led to him initially becoming an outlaw. While on the run as a fugitive Villa adapted other well known bandito ways of making money including robbing haciendas, and sticking up wealthy mine owners, this is also when he officially dropped Arango and only used Francisco Pancho Villa (Katz, 1998). Italian Film and Neorealism Italian Neorealism, a movement that focused on the arts began in 19th century post war Italy and became the repository of partisan hopes for social justice in the post war italian state. (Marcus, xiv) Even before the war, Italy had been under the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini and his corrupt form of government, Fascism, which caused oppression throughout the country. Neorealistic films allowed filmmakers to use common styles and techniques to finally reveal the world filled with anguish and misery that Mussolini had created. These films allowed the rebirth of Italywith the new ideals of freedom and social order. Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological, mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense semantically but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in which viewers can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens. With this information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, has left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the gifts that God has given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly embraced the gifts that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts, we see them flourish. On the other hand, Ferguson was motivated to become a whistleblower when he observed that Girton s personal interests collide with public interests. Not only the decision of allowing ORV in protected lands in 1971, but the consequences it would bring for the National Forest Service Agency, the organization that he belonged since 1940. He had stepped down from the position of forest supervisor when he married another service employee. This shows he was concerned with any ethical implication that emerged from this relationship in the workplace (O Leary, 69). Ferguson proved to be a person of good character and integrity as well as a highly experienced professional in the environmental field. With Girton s approval of ORV trails a policy that allowed limited use of the vehicles in a small number of approved areas Ferguson felt that the organization was being misrepresented and taking a path that did not serve its mission. Can t buy it. Don t want to buy it. Eve spoke in a clipped fashion as she walked hurriedly along the downtown street with her longtime friend, Shirley. Both women were of strong bearing and fierce countenance. Eve was a single, auburn haired, thirty eight year old professor of esoteric studies at the University of Aztlan. • 50. The Madness of War War is the epitome of cruelty and violence, an experience that can prove maddening and strip away some of the most intrinsic characteristics of humanity. Kurt Vonnegut s experiences as a prisoner of war during World War II inspired his critically hailed novel Slaughterhouse Five (1969), in which characters continually search for meaning in the aftermath of mankind s irrational cruelty ( Kurt Vonnegut: 1922 2007 287). Both the main character, Billy Pilgrim, and Vonnegut have been in Dresdenfor the firebombing, and that is what motivates their narrative (Klinkowitz 335). In his anti war novel Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut expresses the adverse emotional effects of war through the psyche of Billy Pilgrim. Vonnegut s distinct style... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emotional separation that Billy experiences is a direct result of the awfulness he faces in war. Billy encounters countless atrocities and absurdities in his life and his war experiences that all contribute to his mental withdrawal and deterioration. The horrors of Dresden, including death, senseless cruelty, and absurd injustice, make up the panorama of violence and inhumanity that defines Pilgrim s world (Broer 70). All of this violence and death around him leads to his descent into schizophrenia and insanity. Billy becomes increasingly crippled by the psychologically damaging blows he receives during the war causing him to withdraw from reality and ultimately lose his sanity (Broer 70). Billy s prisoner of war experience is a nightmare of victimization and madness described as an acrimonious madrigal, . . . everybody, seemingly, had an atrocity story of something Billy Pilgrim had done to him in his sleep (Vonnegut 100). Broer states that Billy and everyone around him exhibit some form of insane, mechanically conditioned behavior, that which is overtly aggressive, or that which allows aggression to happen (73). The most traumatic horrors of war to Billy, however, are the destruction of Dresden and the death of his best friend, Edgar Derby. These events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
