Lgbt History And The Modern Era
There are many topics prevalent shown throughout history. History books in today s society highlight
the majority of groups of people and historical events. This essay will prove that there is a problematic
issue where LGBT lives and existences are being erased throughout history and the modern era.
Throughout, it will be explained how these groups of people are being underrepresented within
history, major wars, and the modern era.
History covers a very broad spectrum of time, with recorded history going as far back as five thousand
years. Yet, within this period of five thousand years, history books implemented in school systems
rarely give detail to LGBT people (Carter, It s Time to Write LGBT History into the Textbooks ). For
example, within America, homosexuality has been shown throughout Native American tribes long
before Europeans even stepped foot onto the land. While traditional European beliefs define a person s
sexual identity male or female based on biological determination, Native American s have a vast
variety of how sexuality is viewed. Native Americans believed the Creator created three different
genders; males, females and two spirits, following the Plato model of roles. Gender roles and gender
identity mirrored one another, each containing their own magical attributes according to lore. While
gender identity defined Native American gender roles, their expectations for the two spirits differed.
Native American ideology welcomed a third gender and openly

Developing Personal Skills
Developing personal skills
Sexual and reproductive health is promoted in schools and the community in order to develop personal
skills. Various programs have been introduced in schools to provide accurate health information to
young people and enhance their skills in communication and decision making. This empowers
individuals to make their own safe choices and decreases health risks. Information on sexual health
has also been incorporated into the school syllabus, so it is being taught in schools to the students by
teachers. Raising awareness of STIs through media, for the general public, is a strategy being used to
spread information.
The Sexual Health and Relationship Education (Share) program was created by SHine SA, South
Australian Department of Health and the Department of Education and Children s Service in 2006,
involving 15 schools across South Australia. Their aim was to improve the sexual health, safety and
well being of young people in South Australia through an educational program. Although the program
did not result in substantial development of health knowledge, it created stronger family and
community bonds and students felt more confident discussing issues with their parents. The Share
program has now become the Focus Schools Program, which is being delivered in 102 schools across
South Australia. There has also an adaptation called the Aboriginal Schools Focus program which has
been specifically implemented for Aboriginal schools.

The Importance Of Finding Useful And Strong Evidence
Finding useful and strong evidence is always one of the most difficult, yet one of the most important
aspectpart of writing an essay. Evidence is the foundationbase of an essay and all the essay s content
relies on the evidence to support it and make a powerful statement. Most college students are familiar
with the concept of finding and using evidence to support their arguments in their essays. It has been
something that we have learned in grade school that we have all executed on all of our essays.
Evidence is used in order to make all statements and arguments deemed correct. It is always difficult
to refute someone when they have strong evidence. With good evidence, the author is able to convince
the reader to believe what the author is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many parts of the article, I will either include a lot of my own analysis or a lot of quotes from other
articles. I need to find a perfect balance between the two so i have the perfect amount of my own work
and analysis and the evidence I need to include in order to justify my analysis. Another weakness I
think is the way I cite my sources. I m not completely sure the best way to cite my source. I know that
I need to have a works cited part but I struggle with incorporating my citation into the actual text.
Some strengths that I have are my organization. I was able to split my article into separate sections
and each section describes a different factor that students should take account of when finding sources
and evidence for their writings. I also think a strength of mine was relating to the audience because I
know that my audience is college students, so incorporated different scenarios and situations that they
would relate to more. For example, I know that college students are typically very experienced in
social media, so I incorporated a section about social media because I know that many college
students may not know that using social media as a new source is not resourceful.
How to Find Reliable Sources as Evidence
Introduction
The concept of using evidence to support your words is a concept that most people are familiar with
and is constantly used everyday. It could be something as simple as proving to

The Case Of Obergefell V. Hodges
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in a county or a state and it is the highest federal court
in the United States today. Today I will be reviewing the case of Obergefell v. Hodges which was a
Supreme Court case about same sex marriage. I will review the justice who wrote the opinion of the
court and the justice who wrote the dissenting opinion for this case. The opinion of the court is a
statement that is prepared by the court announcing the decision after a case is tried. It includes a
summary of the facts, a recitation of the applicable law and how it relates to the facts, the rationale
supporting the decision, and a judgment usually presented in writing. In the case for Obergefell v.
Hodges the Supreme Court justice that wrote

IRA Bombing
The most common form of terrorism used by the paramilitaries groups was bombings, which in the
case of Irish Republican Army (IRA) was a respond to the presence of the British and British actions
in Northern Ireland. The reason why the nationalist paramilitary groups and the IRA used bombings
was because the extremist nationalists did not what the presence of the British Army in Northern
Ireland and thus resorted to bombings to get the British army withdrawn . The bombings sought to
create a climate of fear over a long period of time especially in places such as London that would not
expect nor prepare for such violence . The bombing campaign committed by the IRA was also
attracted to the idea of a unified Ireland under the rule of a Republic ... Show more content on

During this time tit for tat sectarian murders were prevalent and dangerous as it targeted the general
population rather than other paramilitary groups . This violent form of terrorism was especially
prevalent in the period of 1974 76 where sectarian murders were committed on both sides. The Miami
Show band massacre was one of the most famous of these sectarian shootings that was committed by
the UFV in 1974 and created speculation that the Royal Ulster Constabulary might have been involved
further creating division between the Protestant and Catholic communities . The catholic community
often retaliated to the shootings by bombing protestant businesses such as the attack on Donnelly s
Bar. The Protestants response to these bombings was the killing of five Catholics in what became
known as the Reavy and O Dowd killings . The IRA, however, soon became involved in these
shootings also with the killing of ten Protestant workers in South Armagh in 1976 . These tit for tat

Aristotle Voluntary Action
In this module 2 Case assignment, I will be deliberating over what it is that Aristotle means to convey
in his paper on voluntary action. Additionally, I will discuss the importance of differentiating between
what is a voluntary, and an involuntary action. In order to achieve this, I will be presenting a brief
overview of how Aristotle himself distinguished between voluntary and involuntary actions in his
piece from his book, Nichomachean Ethics. To delve deeper in to how to make this distinction, I will
start by looking at such factors as compulsion and ignorance, which have important roles in the
classification of an action. I will also be discussing the implications of choices, opinions, wishes and
the deliberation involved therein. Additionally, I will reference an example of when an action occurs

An act is the product of choices, opinions, and wishes, which determine if the act will be chosen to be
carried out. Choice itself is voluntary, but a voluntary action is not necessarily a choice (Aristotle). A
choice is within our control, and as such we have the ability to choose that which we know to be
absolutely good. An opinion, like a choice, is voluntary but is not a choice in itself. An opinion leads
to a choice as we opine about matters and the inherent evidence to help us decide which choice will
provide the most good. A wish, on the other hand, is different from a choice or opinion, in that it can
be for something completely intangible. It can be wished that one can freeze time, but we cannot
choose to do so, as this is not within our power. What is in our power is the ability to generate an
opinion on the matter. Wishes are for an end as they serve to present the final picture, while a choice is
the means that will potentially bring one to this particular end. All throughout this wishing and
choosing, we deliberate as to which opinion, and choice is the

Pros And Cons Of The Iphone
Pros and Cons of the Iphone
Technology is a useful servant, but a dangerous master. The iphone is something that everybody uses,
wait, have you ever heard about unknown things about the iphone. There is many things you should
know about before purchasing the iphone, but some you might not want to know about. This is one of
the best devices of all time, there is amazing gadgets and uses to it, but some of the parts of it are the
worst, breathtaking things that could be on it. If you want to know everything possible about this
device, than you are going to want to read the pros and cons of this so that you are ready for what s to
come.
To start off, I will to state all of the cons of the iphone to get them out of the way. The biggest one that
I have found that you may want to know is that once you get attached to it you will not be able to get
your hands off of it, after which you will have to pay for data and wifi sometimes. This can last for
years without any problems until you drop it and your screen will not turn on. Initially there is a way
to fix this, but once it happens there is no reversing time. Another thing connecting that is you can buy
lifeproof phone cases, except for the fact that they can be hundreds of dollars and it may not be worth
it. Also, if you have saved data onto your iphone and it breaks, if you don t back it up then you lose
everything. Apple iPhone does not support flash so you will not be able to use some sites. (Street

In red the affected zone of Christchurch earthquake (Earthweek, 2014).
It s recognized as the second deadliest earthquake in New Zealand following the 7.8 Hawkes bay

Darfield earthquake of September 2010 at the eastern edge. This was an area that originally was of a
low earthquake occurrence rate since prior to 2011 there was no knowledge of a fault s existence thus
catching the New Zealand citizens off guard. The Christchurch earthquake resulted in 185 casualties
affecting more than 300,000 people (Kaiser et al, 2012). The earthquake first made contact with in the
South Islands, only 10 km away from the center of Christchurch. Ground motions were unusually

The Nuclear Of Uranium And The Atomic Bomb
Introduction
Beginning in 1941 the exploration of uranium 235 and the atomic bomb began. The bomb would be
used against Japan to end the deadly encounters during World War II in exchange for unconditional
surrender. In 1945 the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima killing over 190,000 people and then another
bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 70,000 people. Japan surrendered bringing an end to the
war but this was only the beginning of what is known as the nuclear age.
Historical context
German physicist, Otto Hahn and German chemist, Fritz Strassmann, began conducting experiments
on uranium when, in 1938, the two were completely bewildered by the results of their experiment and
sent the outcome to physicist Lise Meitner who was astounded by the results as well. Otto Hahn, Fritz
Strassmann, and Lise Meitner had become the first to recognize that uranium could split and release
energy. ( Harnessing of Nuclear Fission. ) Soon after though, the war started.
World War 2 was started September 1, 1939 by Adolf Hitler and lasted until September 2, 1945. It was
the most widespread and deadliest war in history involving over 30 countries and resulting in about 50
million deaths. The major aggressors were Germany, Italy, and Japan. 6 million of the people killed
were in concentration camps because they were Jewish. ( World War II History )
During the war Germany took over a small town, St. Joachimsthal in Bohemia that contained a
uranium mine. Physicists Leo

Fox Hunting Should Be Banned Essay
Fox hunting is one form of hunting. It is a pursuit of a wild fox with a pack of hounds, which are
specially bred and trained for the sole purpose of fox hunting, and are followed by hunters who
usually ride on horses. When the hounds pick up the scent of a fox, they will follow it until the fox
evades them, goes to ground, or is overtaken and killed by the hounds. This form of hunting is
exercised in several countries around the world, but this essay will concentrate on fox hunting in the
United Kingdom. It has been practiced in Britain for around 300 years, with its popularity at its height
in the late 19th century. The debate concerning fox hunting has heated up in the past few years.

An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as
a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating
small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In
addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into
its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would
be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it
only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the
increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in
livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting,
mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed
by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes
are not a significant danger to livestock.
Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of
the hunt. According to them, hunting with hounds allows the foxes to be killed immediately by one nip
to the back of the fox s neck, as the dogs are significantly larger than the

The Birth of the League of Nations
The Great War, now commonly referred to as World War One, ended on November 11th, 1918. In its
wake lied a tremendously devastated Europe, which was where the majority of the carnage took place.
Following World War One, Europeans were struggling to restore some sense of normalcy for
themselves and their families. To do that, maintaining peace was imperative. Europe s economy was in
shambles, their land was left greatly damaged and citizens were emotionally scarred from the
abundant fatality of the war. Thousands of European soldiers died and left behind families who were
mourning while trying to overcome the widespread poverty that remained in the wake of ... Show

Though they understood that countries needed to have some artillery on hand in case of emergency,
they recognized the fine line between self defense and militarization and how it needed to be treated
carefully. It was clear that Europe s sense of security was fragile and any actions that could be
interpreted as aggression would be taken seriously. The language of Article 11 of the Covenant of the
League of Nations emphasized just how serious threats to international peace, particularly European
peace, will be taken. And the tone echoed the fear and uncertainty that most Europeans had. Although
former President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson may of intended for the League of Nations to
be an international body whose purpose was to afford mutual guarantees of political independence and
territorial integrity for its members, it was no such thing. Instead, it was an insurance policy whose
signatories motivation for joining was fear, not to cooperate and foster interdependence.
Many times when covering the creation of the League of Nations, history books make the mistake of
romanticizing the reality that brought forth this organization. In actuality, European countries were not
thinking about how they can create new partnerships and solidify their old ones at the end of WWI.
European leaders were not thinking of how to protect the political independence of sovereign nations.
They were terrified and

Puritans Impact On American Society
The name, American Society, represents a society that many believed was shaped by America itself.
However, Puritanism shaped America s ethical and political views, and the Great Awaken shaped the
people s belief on religious freedom in the nation. Therefore, these events did not only shape the time
prior to the Civil War, but shaped America for times to come. Puritans did a variety of things for
America, other than make people of this age think they re some Pharisees or some weird freaks over
religion. They actually helped in contributing Americans devotion to the practice of education. Puritans
had a zeal for education and that zeal was founded in their origins. In the view of the Puritans, the
Bible was their central to Christian education. They desired education and enlightenment for
everyone, especially the common people. They wanted people to be able to read and understand the
Bible for themselves in order perspire in the wondrous religion they call their life. Reading of the
Bible was necessary to living a devoted life to God. The education of the next generation was
important to further purify the church and perfect social living in order to enter the gates of heaven.
This view goes back to Martin Luther s idea, who stated, Above all, the foremost reading for
everybody, both in the universities and in the schools, should be Holy Scripture... I would advise no
one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme. Once the Puritans ventured to the

How The Security Theater Reflected In The Handmaid s Tale
The words Security Theater came about in 2007 by Zack Phillips to describe the evoked feelings of
security without actually providing it (Government Executive, August 2007). Security Theater is an
underlying concept that is discussed throughout the novel of The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret
Atwood. Security Theater is described through the society of Gilead in The Handmaid s Tale when
women are stripped of the ability to work, the ability to have a bank account and the ability to read
and write. Gilead places restrictions on women of the society in order to protect them so the women
can remain fertile and give birth to babies to increase the population of the society by becoming
handmaid s if the women are still fertile if not then they become Marthas which are women who are

Since the terrorist attack of 9/11, our sense of security has rapidly changed in more ways than one. For
example, To prevent infant abduction, all babies have RFID tags attached to their ankles by a bracelet.
There are sensors on the doors to the maternity ward, and if a baby passes through an alarm goes off
(Wired Staff Business, January 2007). Even though, it is rare for babies to be stolen and not much
helps with having babies wear RFID tags on their ankles, hospitals still think it s necessary to make
sure abduction do not happen. Security Theater affects everyone including those who may be

as making sure there are no sharp objects and weapons around in schools, courthouses, amusement

A Study On Molecular Reactions
A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up
reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and
hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other
reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An
enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration
of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said,
the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the
concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work.
For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p
Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of
the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in
absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing
absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is
produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase
(ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a
particular molecule. To do this,

processes. The primary role of respiration is to deliver oxygen to cells and tissues, and remove carbon
dioxide (Charles, 2015) To appreciate how the size of organisms plays different roles in the respiratory
process, we can use an example of a simple, multi cellular organism like Planaria; a fresh water, free
living flatworm, and compare with a complex multi cellular organism like human.
COMPARISON OF RESPIRATION IN FLATWORMS AND HUMAN:
A comparison of planarian flatworm and human reveal a great difference in their structures that
enables them to meet their respiratory requirements. They have different means of obtaining oxygen
from their surrounding, which is determined by their respective environments. The complexity of each
respiratory system, correlates with the size of the animal. Unicellular and simple multi cellular
organisms use simple diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide as their mean mechanism, while higher
organism combine breathing, diffusion, the circulatory system and complex mitochondria

The Influence of Ancient Chinese Philosophies such as...
Through the whole of history s existence, religions, philosophies and personal belief systems have
been around to shape and mold life into what it is today. Religions all around the world have their own
belief systems, sometimes even more than one. And though one religion or philosophy may develop in
a specific corner of the world, there is always at least two paths they could travel. A system can either
remain personally sacred to the founders, themselves, or it may become a popular belief to other areas
in the world, be they the next town over, or the next country. Likewise is the fact that though some
areas may hold true to one specific religion, other areas may produce several belief systems that may

Though Confucianism started out in the Chinese Dynasties, it would later come to be spread through
Korea, Japan, and Vietnam as well. And though it spread, the idea remained a solid belief system to
the Chinese people, practiced for many years to come. The leadership was passed on from Confucius,
to scholars down the line, preserved in both the minds and hearts of its followers, but also texts such
as the Analects, Mencius, and The Doctrine of the Mean. These books held within them the beliefs,
moral standards, and teachings of Confucianism itself. Rather different from the other religions and
philosophies of its time, Confucianism s belief system was based around the idea of social order in
everyday life. What Confucius believed to be true was the simple fact that by nature, everyone is good
. And so, the idea went that everyone could maintain their goodness by learning to live with proper
decorum. In order to live as such, however, Confucius decreed Five Proper Relationships to share with
one s fellow comrades. In no particular order, the Fine Relationships where as such: father to son,
older brother to younger brother, husband to wide, ruler to subject, and friend level with friend. Of
course, reversed genders, like mother to daughter and older sister to younger sister, were also applied.
The way each relationship had been set up, is for the first person in the pair to set good examples for

Stop Selling Tobacco And Tobacco Products
American s spend a startling $156 Billion dollars every year on tobacco and tobacco related products
and an additional $133 Billion dollars on healthcare for diseases that originate from smoking and
chewing tobacco. The human toll is also significant with a projected 8 million people to die every year
by 2030. To combat these extreme statistics CVS Caremark, now CVS Health, has decided to make
the hard business decision to stop selling tobacco products in all 7,700 of its drug stores. The decision
stemmed from changing its image from a corner store that fills prescriptions to a health care company
that is trying to reinvent the pharmacy to have a more supportive and active role in health care . To
show support for the idea, petitions have been popping up on Change.com like the one by Michael
Brochstein of New York, New York who is calling for other drug store giant Walgreens and its
subsidiary Duane Read to follow in CVS s footsteps and stop selling tobacco products also.
Proponents of the idea say that if these giants stop selling tobacco then regular purchasers will have to
go elsewhere, making it less convenient and possibly making smokers move in the right direction, to
quit smoking and hopefully curve the smoking rate as a whole. This is needed because although
smoking has been on the decrease since the early 1990 s, recently getting to a low of 18% percent of
white males being smokers, it is still an epidemic that kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car

The Female Oppression Of Women In The 1890s
Female Oppression in the 1890s
Today women in developed countries enjoy many freedoms from social stigmas and oppressions in
the work force, although, they are still not completely equal to their male counterpart. There are still
women being paid less than men doing the same job and there is the idea that prices for female
products are raised slightly higher than it is for men for the same products; however, this does not
compare to the kind of oppression women went through in the 1890s. Charlotte Perkins Gilman
embodied the oppression of females in the 1890s in her short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, which
depicts a mother and wife going through postpartum depression while struggling with her male
physicians and husband over her treatment plan. Critic Frances Baskerville sums Gilman s intention
for her story stating, Her [Gilman s] fiction was intended as a vehicle for her feminist and socialist
themes, a means of persuading a general audience (Baskerville line 2). Although one of the issues of
The Yellow Wallpaper is dealing with postpartum depression, one of the main themes of the short
story is female oppression and what everyday life was like for women in her time.
Throughout the short story Gilman depicts the wife s growing frustrations when she disagrees with the
treatment plan her husband, and her brother, and one of the most well renowned physicians for
females (who is also male) all agree on. One of the first examples of this is when she is discussing the

Virginia V. Texas, The Supreme Court Upheld The...
In Fisher v Texas, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of special admissions programs; but
this could only be done under strict judicial scrutiny, and with narrowly tailored provisions. Two
separate questions stem from this: What does narrowly tailoring mean in light of the 14th
Amendment? And how can other universities implement admission standards that are constitutionally
permissible? Short Answer Grutter and Gratz established that race could be a factor in the admissions
process. But it must pass strict scrutiny. At first blush, this might appear discriminatory. But if there is
a compelling government interest, then it is not covered by the Equal Protection Clause, in the
Fourteenth Amendment. So to pass strict scrutiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because schools have a rational reason for excluding certain individuals. It cannot accept every
student, so schools must have the ability to sift through applicants. For example, test scores, GPA,
extracurricular activities, and the like, can be used when considering an applicants file. In short, this in
no way perverts or violates the Equal Protection Clause; schools have a reasonable interest in denying
certain applicants because they cannot admit every student that applies. Discussion of Cases: How the
Court Applied Strict Scrutiny When a University implements special admissions requirements, like
race and ethnicity, the Court called for the most exacting judicial scrutiny when reviewing cases of
this nature (Bakke v U.S.). For this, the rational basis test is faulty. Strict scrutiny is prescribed to
examine race cases. The Court visited this topic in two separate cases: Grutter v Bollinger and Gratz v
Bollinger. Grutter examined admissions requirements for Michigan Law School, and Gratz examined
Michigan undergraduate requirements. Once again, emphasis was placed on applying strict scrutiny
when race plays a factor in admissions. The court also established the need for narrowly tailored
provisions when implementing such programs. In Grutter, the court re emphasized the fact that
cultivating a diverse student body was a compelling state interest. And according to Chief Justice
Rehnquist, student body diversity is a compelling state

Racial Discrimination Against Minorities And Immigrants
Since the start of American history, immigrants came here and brought their traditions and cultures
with them. The United States is a country of immigrants. It is a place where people from all over the
world come to build a better life. Some immigrants bring their families. Others come alone with
nothing but determination. Racial discrimination against minorities and immigrants is an underlying
problem here in America today. Racism is seen in our daily lives when people are discriminated
against because of their race and ethnicity. Racism attacks the right to a person s well being on the
basis of something they have no control over. They cannot change nor should want to change who
they are. Racial discrimination is not as bad as it was fifty years ago, but it still a problem here in our
country today. Our country has advanced tremendously as far as modernization and technology, but
has not improved on the way we treat minorities and immigrants. From African Americans, Asians,
Hispanics, and Arabs there is a form of discrimination against these group of minorities.
On social media there was a trending hashtag, #BlackLivesMatter, when the riots in Ferguson began in
August 2014 over the killing of a young African American male by a white police officer. The African
American community made it clear that black lives did matter. They were outraged and upset by the
constant police brutality against them that they believed was caused by the underlying of racism. The

Allegory And Death In The Gray Man By Sarah Orne Jewett
The Gray Man is a short story written by an American author named Sarah Orne Jewett who is a short
story writer. The story is set in an area around Mt. Agamenticus which is a wooden area located in
Southern Maine, and it portrays an important message about life. This is shown through the use of
allegory and personification, which includes giving personal attributes or characteristics to inanimate
objects. The allegorical theme is simply that the Gray Man, represents death. Because of him, the
townspeople will learn that the very reason life has meaning is because it eventually ends. Sarah Orne

Cuba is representative of a different type of society which has in many ways, not embraced modern
technology due to the embargo and the lack of imports into the country; therefore, it falls behind in
many areas due to strict government control and limits the ability of its people to experience
meaningful economic growth (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). In this context, the people of Cuba
face significant challenges because they cannot seek opportunities for growth and development which
have a significant impact on their incomes and families (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). From this
perspective, there are important considerations to make regarding the Cuban economy and its lasting
impact on limiting economic prosperity for its people (The Heritage Foundation, 2017).
The primary language spoken in Cuba is Spanish, and within this culture, it is important for the people
throughout the country to gain access to opportunities such as education, which they believe will
provide them with access to new tools and resources to improve their lives (Donovan). In this context,
education is an essential value within the Cuban culture and provides a means of understanding how
the people of this country thrive, despite their limited economic circumstances and access to many

Whenever his army marched into a land, it was not just an army of warriors; he brought an entourage
of scholars to spread the culture as well. Interspersed within the fighting battalions were architects,
philosophers, scribes, musicians, and educators whose whole duty was to spread the culture to those
who were conquered. Some of these strategies were the establishment of Greek cities, Greek schools
(Gymnasia), and commanding the Greek language as the official language for government and the de
facto language for commerce. Many people began to give their children Greek names, and local styles
of art and architecture began to imitate Greek models. Even some of the Jewish High Priests took
Greek names. All of this was not a good turn of events for Israel since the Greek culture was very
ungodly and humanistic. Despite the bright and promising future ahead of him, Alexander met an
unexpected death in Babylon at the age of 32 and though one will like to believe that all that he stood

Dyslexia and life
For a long time, dyslexia has been causing many humans, especially children, to have learning
difficulties. The World Federation of Neurologists define dyslexia as, a disorder in children who,
despite conventional classroom experience, fail to attain the language skills of reading, writing, and
spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities ( Dyslexia, 2013). Sometimes the letter m might
look like w, and the number 3 might look like 8; dyslexia basically makes it harder for people to
improve their language abilities. This is the behavior I wish to change because of the many negative

Students studying at Yale University have discovered that defects in a gene, DCDC2, are related to
problems in reading skills. The DCDC2 gene (when it is not supposed to) goes into contact with
KIAA0319, which is known as a dyslexic gene ( What is Dyslexia? 2013). None of these hypotheses
have been proven yet. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time they begin to
read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be told; whenever
those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories have been
present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar theory and the
magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual concepts (which
makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that this occurs because
there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular pathways are part of the
central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from their surroundings. Scientists
believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain dyslexia and are not able to remember
the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar theory says that people who have
problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The cerebellum is basically responsible for human
motor control and language. Dysfunctions in the cerebellum can cause

although it was a definite sound of water I couldn t make out the sound itself. The darkness became
more intense than the sound, and then the sound became more intense than the darkness. What was

Then it began, this pungent smell. Then it registered in my mind. I was alongside the canal and it was

second scream broke the darkness.

The Young Heroine In A White Heron By Sarah Orne Jewett
The Young Heroine
Countless stories of heroes and heroines have all followed the same cycle from beginning to end of a
hero s life. The cycle starts from a certain event affecting the hero s life leading them on a quest that is
typically filled with some form of adventure. The hero is equipped for the quest with a type of power
or aid from the supernatural to help them face trials to further prove themselves. Once the hero
completes the quest, they experience either physical or metaphorical death and are rewarded greatly.
According to Griffith, A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett fits the hero archetype from the main
character being sent on a quest full of trials to the reward of the quest s completion.
In the story, A White Heron, the reader is introduced to the main character, Sylvia. Her quest begins

  • 2. Lgbt History And The Modern Era There are many topics prevalent shown throughout history. History books in today s society highlight the majority of groups of people and historical events. This essay will prove that there is a problematic issue where LGBT lives and existences are being erased throughout history and the modern era. Throughout, it will be explained how these groups of people are being underrepresented within history, major wars, and the modern era. History covers a very broad spectrum of time, with recorded history going as far back as five thousand years. Yet, within this period of five thousand years, history books implemented in school systems rarely give detail to LGBT people (Carter, It s Time to Write LGBT History into the Textbooks ). For example, within America, homosexuality has been shown throughout Native American tribes long before Europeans even stepped foot onto the land. While traditional European beliefs define a person s sexual identity male or female based on biological determination, Native American s have a vast variety of how sexuality is viewed. Native Americans believed the Creator created three different genders; males, females and two spirits, following the Plato model of roles. Gender roles and gender identity mirrored one another, each containing their own magical attributes according to lore. While gender identity defined Native American gender roles, their expectations for the two spirits differed. Native American ideology welcomed a third gender and openly ... • 3. Developing Personal Skills Developing personal skills Sexual and reproductive health is promoted in schools and the community in order to develop personal skills. Various programs have been introduced in schools to provide accurate health information to young people and enhance their skills in communication and decision making. This empowers individuals to make their own safe choices and decreases health risks. Information on sexual health has also been incorporated into the school syllabus, so it is being taught in schools to the students by teachers. Raising awareness of STIs through media, for the general public, is a strategy being used to spread information. The Sexual Health and Relationship Education (Share) program was created by SHine SA, South Australian Department of Health and the Department of Education and Children s Service in 2006, involving 15 schools across South Australia. Their aim was to improve the sexual health, safety and well being of young people in South Australia through an educational program. Although the program did not result in substantial development of health knowledge, it created stronger family and community bonds and students felt more confident discussing issues with their parents. The Share program has now become the Focus Schools Program, which is being delivered in 102 schools across South Australia. There has also an adaptation called the Aboriginal Schools Focus program which has been specifically implemented for Aboriginal schools. Creating supportive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Finding Useful And Strong Evidence Finding useful and strong evidence is always one of the most difficult, yet one of the most important aspectpart of writing an essay. Evidence is the foundationbase of an essay and all the essay s content relies on the evidence to support it and make a powerful statement. Most college students are familiar with the concept of finding and using evidence to support their arguments in their essays. It has been something that we have learned in grade school that we have all executed on all of our essays. Evidence is used in order to make all statements and arguments deemed correct. It is always difficult to refute someone when they have strong evidence. With good evidence, the author is able to convince the reader to believe what the author is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many parts of the article, I will either include a lot of my own analysis or a lot of quotes from other articles. I need to find a perfect balance between the two so i have the perfect amount of my own work and analysis and the evidence I need to include in order to justify my analysis. Another weakness I think is the way I cite my sources. I m not completely sure the best way to cite my source. I know that I need to have a works cited part but I struggle with incorporating my citation into the actual text. Some strengths that I have are my organization. I was able to split my article into separate sections and each section describes a different factor that students should take account of when finding sources and evidence for their writings. I also think a strength of mine was relating to the audience because I know that my audience is college students, so incorporated different scenarios and situations that they would relate to more. For example, I know that college students are typically very experienced in social media, so I incorporated a section about social media because I know that many college students may not know that using social media as a new source is not resourceful. Additionally, I will discuss the importance of differentiating between what is a voluntary, and an involuntary action. In order to achieve this, I will be presenting a brief overview of how Aristotle himself distinguished between voluntary and involuntary actions in his piece from his book, Nichomachean Ethics. To delve deeper in to how to make this distinction, I will start by looking at such factors as compulsion and ignorance, which have important roles in the classification of an action. I will also be discussing the implications of choices, opinions, wishes and the deliberation involved therein. Additionally, I will reference an example of when an action occurs that is less than ... Choice itself is voluntary, but a voluntary action is not necessarily a choice (Aristotle). A choice is within our control, and as such we have the ability to choose that which we know to be absolutely good. An opinion, like a choice, is voluntary but is not a choice in itself. An opinion leads to a choice as we opine about matters and the inherent evidence to help us decide which choice will provide the most good. A wish, on the other hand, is different from a choice or opinion, in that it can be for something completely intangible. It can be wished that one can freeze time, but we cannot choose to do so, as this is not within our power. What is in our power is the ability to generate an opinion on the matter. The bomb would be used against Japan to end the deadly encounters during World War II in exchange for unconditional surrender. In 1945 the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima killing over 190,000 people and then another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 70,000 people. Japan surrendered bringing an end to the war but this was only the beginning of what is known as the nuclear age. Historical context German physicist, Otto Hahn and German chemist, Fritz Strassmann, began conducting experiments on uranium when, in 1938, the two were completely bewildered by the results of their experiment and sent the outcome to physicist Lise Meitner who was astounded by the results as well. Otto Hahn, Fritz Strassmann, and Lise Meitner had become the first to recognize that uranium could split and release energy. ( Harnessing of Nuclear Fission. ) Soon after though, the war started. World War 2 was started September 1, 1939 by Adolf Hitler and lasted until September 2, 1945. An opposing view is that the fox is not a serious threat to agriculture, and should not be considered as a vermin. According to the League Against Cruel Sports the foxes actually help farmers by eating small animals, such as rabbits, rats and voles, which are considered to be pests on arable land. In addition, foxes are territorial animals, which means that once a fox is killed another soon moves into its place from a surrounding area. Left to control their population naturally the number of foxes would be controlled by scarcity of food, whereas when used fox hunting for controlling the populations, it only serves to lessen the amount of the animals temporarily, for more foxes to take advantage of the increase in food thus breeding again. Furthermore, foxes do not cause significant loss or damage in livestock. For example the League Against Cruel Sports, an organization strongly against fox hunting, mentions a York University study that states that only a minimal amount of 0.4% of lambs are killed by foxes, and of other livestock the percentage is extremely low as well. According to the study foxes are not a significant danger to livestock. Supporters of fox hunting present the opinion that foxes do not suffer from stress or pain as a result of the hunt. • 16. A Study On Molecular Reactions A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said, the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work. For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a particular molecule. Simple forms can either be unicellular such as bacteria, or simple multi cellular, as flatworms and cnidarians. Complex animals are multi cellular with organised organ system requirements that enable them to carry out complex metabolic processes. Respiration is one of the key metabolic processes for the energy requirements of all other physiologic processes. The primary role of respiration is to deliver oxygen to cells and tissues, and remove carbon dioxide (Charles, 2015) To appreciate how the size of organisms plays different roles in the respiratory process, we can use an example of a simple, multi cellular organism like Planaria; a fresh water, free living flatworm, and compare with a complex multi cellular organism like human. COMPARISON OF RESPIRATION IN FLATWORMS AND HUMAN: A comparison of planarian flatworm and human reveal a great difference in their structures that enables them to meet their respiratory requirements. They have different means of obtaining oxygen from their surrounding, which is determined by their respective environments. To combat these extreme statistics CVS Caremark, now CVS Health, has decided to make the hard business decision to stop selling tobacco products in all 7,700 of its drug stores. The decision stemmed from changing its image from a corner store that fills prescriptions to a health care company that is trying to reinvent the pharmacy to have a more supportive and active role in health care . • 28. Virginia V. Texas, The Supreme Court Upheld The... In Fisher v Texas, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of special admissions programs; but this could only be done under strict judicial scrutiny, and with narrowly tailored provisions. Two separate questions stem from this: What does narrowly tailoring mean in light of the 14th Amendment? And how can other universities implement admission standards that are constitutionally permissible? Short Answer Grutter and Gratz established that race could be a factor in the admissions process. But it must pass strict scrutiny. At first blush, this might appear discriminatory. But if there is a compelling government interest, then it is not covered by the Equal Protection Clause, in the Fourteenth Amendment. So to pass strict scrutiny ... It cannot accept every student, so schools must have the ability to sift through applicants. For example, test scores, GPA, extracurricular activities, and the like, can be used when considering an applicants file. In short, this in no way perverts or violates the Equal Protection Clause; schools have a reasonable interest in denying certain applicants because they cannot admit every student that applies. Discussion of Cases: How the Court Applied Strict Scrutiny When a University implements special admissions requirements, like race and ethnicity, the Court called for the most exacting judicial scrutiny when reviewing cases of this nature (Bakke v U.S.). For this, the rational basis test is faulty. Strict scrutiny is prescribed to examine race cases. The Court visited this topic in two separate cases: Grutter v Bollinger and Gratz v Bollinger. Grutter examined admissions requirements for Michigan Law School, and Gratz examined Michigan undergraduate requirements. Once again, emphasis was placed on applying strict scrutiny when race plays a factor in admissions. The court also established the need for narrowly tailored provisions when implementing such programs. In Grutter, the court re emphasized the fact that cultivating a diverse student body was a compelling state interest. The DCDC2 gene (when it is not supposed to) goes into contact with KIAA0319, which is known as a dyslexic gene ( What is Dyslexia? 2013). None of these hypotheses have been proven yet. Anyway, dyslexics can have difficulties understanding every time they begin to read. The number of times dyslexia occurs or the time of the day it occurs cannot be told; whenever those people are reading, the language complications can be seen. Two main theories have been present regarding the reasons for why this behavior occurs, which are the cerebellar theory and the magnocellular theory. We have proof that dyslexic people cannot process visual concepts (which makes it harder for them to read or write). The magnocellular theory states that this occurs because there is something wrong with the magnocellular pathways. Magnocellular pathways are part of the central nervous system, and allow humans to process visual details from their surroundings. Scientists believe that with these pathways not working, humans obtain dyslexia and are not able to remember the presented information. On the other hand, the cerebellar theory says that people who have problems in the cerebellum might become dyslexic. The cerebellum is basically responsible for human motor control and language.
