Automobile In The Great Gatsby
If you were to have to choose one invention that had the largest impact on everyday life during the
20th century, the invention of the automobile may just have been the most important and impactful.
Although the technology existed during the late 19th century to produce an automobile, had it not
been for Henry Ford and his assembly lines, the automobile may have never been brought into the
hands of the general population. With the expansion of the automobile industry came an economic
revolution during the 1920s across the continental United States as thousands of jobs were created
with the introduction of highway systems in 1921 with the Federal Aid Highway Act. The intent of the
act was to create coherent highway networks using Federal funds ... Show more content on

Scott Fitzgerald published a series of three essays in one of which he wrote: I dreamed that I saw
always at the wheel of a magnificent Stutz, a Stutz as low as a snake and as red an Indiana Barn. (The
Crack Up, Fitzgerald, 226) The cars that Fitzgerald owned in his life, from a Rolls Royce, to a Buick,
a Stutz, a Packard, a Ford Coupe and finally a Ford convertible would be a comparison between the
dreams and realities he had in his life in his journey from careless youth to a cautious, middle aged
man which was greatly representative of the characters in his novels as well. Fitzgerald s descriptions
of Jay Gatsby s Rolls Royce in his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby are very similar to that of Morrison s
as it is described as being a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its
monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and upper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a
labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a
sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town. (Fitzgerald, 68) We later get mention of our
narrator Nick Carraway s car, which was an old Dodge . A Dodge during the 1920s was considered to
have been one step above Henry Ford s Model T with its 35 horsepower 4 cylinder L head engine, 12
volt electrical system, electric starter rather than a manual crank (which would prove to be the cause
of many broken wrists for Model T owners), and an all steel body, making it about double the price of

Chest To Glove Theory
Pitching mechanics are one of the most controversial and complex things in all of sports. In the
roughly 1.5 seconds that it takes for the pitcher to deliver a pitch, the pitcher uses almost every muscle
in his body in a variety of ways. That is what makes it so difficult and also why it is so important that
it is done correctly. There are many different ways of throwing a ball sixty feet six inches. Two of the
main ones are chest to glove, and gloveside disconnect. The chest to glove theory is exactly what it
sounds like, the pitcher tries to bring his chest to his glove in hopes of getting a further release point.
Gloveside disconnect is a little bit more tricky. With this method the pitcher either points his glove
towards the catcher or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these negatives is that pitchers can lose lots of trunk rotation by trying to bring chest to glove.
A quote that supports this is by focusing too much on getting your glove out and bringing your chest
forward you often tend to block yourself off (The Importance of Good Glove Arm Action). Blocking
off means that the pitcher is not fully able to get over their front foot and is unable to follow through
correctly . This causes them to lose trunk rotation which is a very important part of high velocity
pitching mechanics (How to efficiently change pitching mechanics). While this seems to contradict
that the chest to glove method gives more angular trunk velocity, the two are actually different. The
difference is that angular trunk velocity is the speed at which the trunk is moving while trunk rotation
is the amount of movement, not necessarily how fast it is going. Another negative is that chest to
glove can lead to no follow through. The less trunk rotation there is, the less a pitcher is going to be
able to follow through, which is vital to deceleration. Proper deceleration is also extremely important
to injury prevention. No follow through will often lead to throwing pitches high, which is not good.
Not following through leads to a further back release point. The further back their release point the
more likely it becomes that the ball will fly out early. These are the negatives of the chest to glove

NCAA as a Monopoly
After over a century of existence, the National Collegiate Athletic Association stands today as a multi
million dollar organization, one of the largest and most successful organizations in the nation. The
NCAA is in charge of overlooking every college athletic competition in the United States. Every year
millions of fans watch NCAA organized games and follow the top prospects of every sport. However,
all schools and players involved with the NCAA are obligated to follow a strict set of rules to be
eligible to compete at the college level.
The NCAA holds college athletes specifically to a very strict set of rules. Under the NCAA all athletes

Although students enjoy playing their own specific sports, they are doing it with millions of people
following their path and they are generating millions of dollars to the NCAA, they just are not allowed
to have any of it. Therefore, they can not be considered amateurs. In fact, these students really are not
even in college to get an education. In her blog Confessions of a Whistleblower, Mary Willingham an
academic advisor from the University of North Carolina, revealed that the athletes in the most
successful college teams are given paper classes to replace real classes. These paper classes are classes
that do not require students to attend class. Their only assignment is to turn in a paper at the end of a
semester and are 100 percent of the time graded A or B. A method used to keep students eligible. Also,
according to Ross Finkel and Martin Trevor in their documentary Schooled: The Price of College
Sports, players have one year contracts with the schools based only on athletics. This means that even
if a student athlete had straight A s, they could lose their scholarship if they were no longer competing
on the field. Their education would be over. Finally, there is transfer rules that restrict athletes from
transferring from one four year University to another and play their first year( Division 1 Initial

Television And The Future Of Television Essay
What do we really mean by television? The way we watch television has drastically changed over the
last fifteen years due to new technologies such as digital television and services providing on demand
access. These drastic changes have had a huge effect on viewers and have allowed online streaming
platforms to dominate and revolutionize the way the audience consumes (Aliloupour) media,
ultimately allowing the viewer to be in total control of how, when and where they want their content.
The idea of only being able to watch television on a television set is now a thing of the past. Due to
technology, the audience now has a vast variety of options on how they can access content. By using
scholarly articles, research in new media and Internet sites I will be analyzing current television and
where the future of television will be heading.
The way the audience watches television has drastically changed since the birth of television. The
viewer is changing the rules (Deign) of how we consume media and is no longer restricted to when
they can access content. The company Netflix s is a great example of this. Netflix is currently the
dominant company in the on demand media industry and isn t only changing the way that we watch
television, but it s also revolutionizing the way that it is made (Page). Compared to old methods of
television networks where the viewer is required to tune in weekly at a designated time for a television
show, Netflix s has allowed the viewer to watch

Dissociation Theory Of Hypnosis
What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is when a person is in a highly susceptible state of consciousness where
they are open to suggestion. Typically, it is used to help relax/calm a person, control/alleviate pain,
and recover from whatever they re experiencing. Being susceptible to suggestion makes it easy to be
affected mentally and physically. The hypnotist uses this to guide you or influence you into a certain
situation. When being hypnotized, the subject is in charge and can t be forced against their will. Which
means people can only be hypnotized if they re willing to be.
The Social cognitive theory of hypnosis is a form of role playing where people who are hypnotized
aren t in a different state of consciousness, but are simply acting the way others expect them to in that
situation (Sarbin Coe, 1972). The Dissociation theory of hypnosis is a dissociation of consciousness
where the mind is split in two parts (1991; Hilgard Hilgard, 1994). One part of the mind is conscious
and the other part of the mind is the hidden observer . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Obesity Is The Biggest Risk Facing Kids Today

children is now a reality so many families live with.

Canadian telecommunication Industry
Introduction
The telecommunications regulation that existed in Canada in the 1970s and before were high. The
telecommunication industry in Canada was mainly dominated by Bell Canada. Regional service
providers and long distance resellers emerged in the telecommunication industry in the 1980s and the

exhibited a growth in momentum. In the 2000s it witnessed a rapid growth but this was not the case in

Pros And Cons Of Being Outside The Field Of Dermatology
SOCIETAL CONCERNS There could be a lot of social issues when it comes to dermatology because
it deals with a person s skin and that is what everyone sees. In today s society, the way a person looks
means everything. That s good for a dermatologist because their job is to get rid of flaws in the skin,
however, this will continue the trend of looks meaning everything to people instead of a person s
personality or talents and gifts. This could cause people to have lower self esteem, problems in social

Based on the negative consequences of the trends and issues, I believe there are ways to prevent them
from happening and improve some of the problems with the technology. With the issue of the internet
and administrative tools, patients data should be kept private and should not get deleted or lost. In the
future when I am in my career, to prevent these things from happening I will make sure when I am
processing a patient s information I will take my time to make sure it is saved in the appropriate
folders. I would also create a security system for the patients so their information could not get leaked
on the internet for others to see. There are different forms of security software that can be installed on
computers to prevent things like documentation of a patient s file getting leaked. Technology could be
complicated, however, if you are a physician, you should have some type of understanding of how to
use it. Since there are a lot of people who do not understand how to use certain technology, I would
have educational sessions for those that need to learn how to use the technology for certain
procedures. I would also explain why these forms of technology are important for use. Education is

Keeping the Past Alive in in A Rose for Emily by William...
Miss Emily Grierson, the leading character in A Rose for Emily , is a bizarre woman to say the least.
Faulkner begins this story with Miss Emily s funeral, and continues to tell about the interesting events
in her life. All throughout the story, Miss Emily exhibits many traits of a mentally ill person, but is
never medically diagnosed. Faulkner writes, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care (245),
meaning that she stuck to her Southern raised ways. She refused to conform to the modernization of
the world around her. The narrator of this story seems to be a person that knows Miss Emily and her
family very intimately. The narrator also considers themselves apart of the townspeople referred to as
the we throughout the story. This story tells about the ups and downs in the extremely intriguing life of
a woman that refuses to leave her past. After her death, the whole town went to her funeral: the men
through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see
the inside of her house (Faulkner 244). No one had been into her home in at least a decade except for
the workers. Faulkner uses imagery to describe the big, squarish framed house that had once been
white (244). Miss Emily came from a wealthy family during the Antebellum Era, and her house
appears to not have been touched up since then. Miss Emily was not one to accept to charity by any
means. After the death of her father, Colonel Sartoris remitted

According to a study done by the National Park Service, there is estimated to be well over ten
thousand vehicular wildlife collisions over a recent eighteen year time period. With a more
anthropogenic viewpoint, less open space for parking, congested trails, and the inability to leisurely
drive through many of the national park system s scenic routes due to traffic are just a few
inconveniences to the visitor s experience. There are many ways to combat these negative implications
of the increased outdoor tourism. A few proposed solutions to these impacts are to set a cap on
attendance at each park, implementation of more trash and recycling bins throughout the parks and
trails, and more education for visitors to the parks on land use ethics like leave no trace. Overall, the
most effective solution to combat these negative effects is a shuttle service throughout the park. .
Transit services (e.g., public bus service) are a component of the overall park transportation system
and are very desirable in park settings as they yield many advantages over personal auto access
including reduced congestion in parking areas, a reduced carbon footprint, and an enhanced visitor

William Blake Exaggeration
William Blake and William Wordsworth both write about London in their poems. Composed Upon
Westminster bridge and London both portray London differently during the industrial revolution.
Blake writes about the negative aspects of London while Wordsworth on the other hand writes about
the positive aspects of London. Although these poems portray London differently, they do so by the
use of similar methods. The methods they use to portray London are exaggeration, use of the five
senses, and personification.
Both William Blake and William Wordsworth use exaggeration to describe London during the
industrial revolution. In London , William blake uses exaggeration to illustrate the negative aspects of
London during the industrial revolution. On the other hand, Wordsworth uses exaggeration in his
poem to illustrate the positive aspects of London during the industrial revolution to illustrate the
negative aspects of London blake uses exaggeration in lines eleven through twelve in his poem; And
the hapless soldier s sigh runs in blood down palace walls (11 12). In this line William Blake is
exaggerating the soldier s sigh because it didn t really run in blood down the palace walls. In order
illustrate the positive aspects of London during industrial revolution; wordsworth uses exaggeration in
the opening line of his poem. Earth has not anything to show more fair (1). In this line blake uses
exaggeration to illustrate how captivated he is at the sunrise.
This proves my point because through the use of exaggeration William Blake and William
Wordsworth were able to show london in two different perspectives.
Blake uses the five senses to help the reader picture how filthy London is in his poem.
Wordsworth on the other hand, uses the five senses to help the reader picture how beautiful London is
in his poem. In order to help his audience comprehend how filthy london is, william blake uses some
of the five senses. He illustrates this well through the use of hearing. A strong example of this can be
found in line thirteen: But most, through midnight streets I hear (13). Sound really makes a difference
in our lives and he uses that to paint a clearer picture of how he perceives London. William
Wordsworth uses the

Restorative Justice And Justice System
Restorative justice has some key restorative values that are vital in the restorative justice conference to
make the experience restorative . Concerning addressing victim needs and concerns means for
listening, respecting, being non judgmental, not blaming the victim and apologizing. The RJ system
was bought as an alternative to the criminal justice system to give greater emphasis on victim rights
and needs, offender accountability and community involvement. Throughout the essay, there will be
an insight into how Restorative Justice addresses needs of victims in terms of the different proponents
such as Information provided to victim, restitution/compensation, emotional and practical needs met,
participation and involvement of victim and protection of victim, which (Wemmers and Marisa, 2002)
as essentials to victims participating in the practice. The two countries that will be addressed will have
had restorative justice built out of injustices and over representation of the current criminal justice
system to the indigenous peoples of those countries.
The traditional criminal justice system is criticized for its neglect of victim importance and needs, for
example (Symonds, 1980) acknowledges, that the criminal justice system is concerned about looking
back at the event rather than focusing on how to rehabilitate and as a consequence making victims be
in a secondary victimization effect. This is the attitudes, behaviors and the beliefs of the people in the

Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of...
Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship.
Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the
presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist
without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to
exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and
a sense of connection?
Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something
else.
As Cottone (1988,363) mentions, relationship is what we are born from, nurtured by and getting
educated from. Our existence is defined within the domain of the society, and it is within society
where we interact with others, socialise and satisfy our biological needs. ... Show more content on

From the ancient years, the relationship between two people has healing properties and is the main
influence for changes in people s lives.
Especially, in counselling and psychotherapy, the relationship between client and counsellor is the
most significant part of the therapeutic procedure. Many studies (Buborsky et al. 1983, O Maley et al.
1983, Hill 1989) illustrate that it is the therapeutic relationship more that any other factor, which
determines the effectiveness of counselling therapy. Moreover, literature which reviews the way, in
which clients experience the therapeutic process, indicates that the many of the client s thoughts and
feelings remain unspoken during the counselling sessions. (Dinnage, 1988, Mearns and Dryden,

Literary Influences Of Shakespeare
Context Due to Shakespeare having a big influence on literature, even today, many literary works are
related to Shakespeare. Authors incorporate Shakespeare s writing in some way and change things a
bit to make their own story. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because many
literary works are influenced by Shakespeare and other writings, which we can use to make
connections and it can be considered as a text to text situation. A film called West Side Story is just
like Romeo and Juliet because in both of the stories there are two rival groups and one person form
one group falls in love with a person from their rival group. These two stories have common elements
such as the rival gangs, and the type of love. Context The Bible is well recognized book, which has
many allusions in it. The writers use these references to make it more meaningful. Reflection In
literature class, we could apply this concept because allusions can create a lot of imagery, which adds
more meaning to it. Religious or biblical references can also be used for irony. Allusions add hidden
and deep meaning, due to the fact it s an indirect reference. For example, in the book Macbeth,
Shakespeare uses the Golgotha as an allusion. Context Many writers integrate other literary works into
their writing. It helps readers understand what s going on more by connecting some of the events and
themes to the fairytales. Reflection In literature class, we could apply

2006). In the present study, the bacterium was isolated during the summer season (average water
temperature of 25°C). It seems that this finding can show association of the cultivable forms on high
water temperature. In the current research, V. vulnificus was not found in any samples obtained in the
spring (average water temperature of 15°C). In the Gulf of Mexico V. vulnificus was not isolated when
seawater temperatures were 14°C (Pfeffer et al. 2003).When the water temperatures reach to less than

Electromyography
Electromyography (EMG) is a way of measuring muscle electrical activity and use it in medical
diagnoses which refers to muscle performance. The electric activity generated during muscle
activation, known as the myoelectric signal, is generated from small electrical currents generated by
the exchange of ions across the muscle membranes and detected with the help of surface electrodes
[1]. EMG make us generate force, create movements and allow us to do countless other functions
through which we can interact with the world around us. The EMG is a bioelectric signal which has,
over the years, developed a vast range of applications. Clinically, EMG is being used as diagnostic
tool for neurological disorders. It is frequently being used for assessment of patients with

Similarities Between Hammurabi And Moses
Hammurabi and Moses When reflecting on significant members of ancient times, Hammurabi and
Moses symbolize substantial advancement in the creation of laws. Hammurabi of Babylon introduced
his code centuries apart from Moses and his laws for the Hebrews; however, there are similarities
shared between the two. Several reasons can be distinguished as to what accounts for the comparison
within each set of laws. Along with having an abundance of similarities, the differences shared
between the two are also evident. To understand the similarities and differences analyzed in this essay,
each set of laws will be compared regarding the treatment of parents, marriage, dishonesty in court,
class systems, importance of agriculture, and the customs of each civilization. The time period,
culture, and geographic location are responsible for the similarities and differences of Hammurabi s
Code and The Law of Moses.
To begin, Hammurabi s Code and The Mosaic Laws included that parents should be obeyed and
respected. This is one characteristic that is shared between the rules. Because of the time in which
Hammurabi and Moses lived in, it was not common to imagine a child disobeying his parents. People
most likely thought that a child would always obey his parents, and that this shared law was accepted
knowledge. Hammurabi states that If a son has struck his father, his hands shall be cut off,
(Hammurabi, 195). Mosaic Law also mentions, If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son

Hurricanes And Climate Disaster Events
1. Summary
Hurricanes and climate disaster events caused losses exceeding $110 billion in damages and 377
deaths across the United States, in the year 2012. This makes the year 2012 the second costliest on
record, after the year 2005 which witnessed $160 billion losses due to hurricanes, including hurricane
Katrina. Hurricane Sandy was the major driver of substantial damage costs in the year 2012
(approximately $65 billion). During the 1980 2005 period, the United States sustained over $500
billion in overall inflation adjusted damages/costs due to extreme climate events. The analysis of
available data shows a significantly increasing trend in billion dollar disasters. The economic impact
of hurricanes is huge and there is a need to improve the resiliency and the sustainability of the built
environment under extreme wind events, to protect our citizens and to reduce the massive economic
losses brought by hurricanes. The purpose of this project is to significantly reduce devastating
hurricane effects on infrastructure by implementing solutions to provide strategic guidance on the
aerodynamic mitigation of buildings, to help lessen roof suctions, a major source of economic losses
and community disruption. In addition, solar panels arranged aerodynamically to reduce both roof
suction and panel s loads will be investigated, in an attempt to create safer and greener buildings, as
well as to meet stringent wind requirements.

Since the average person could not take themselves as an object, they had to rely on that Other who
does have himself as object (the sovereign) to tell them who they are, and what their relationship is to
him, since he is capable of knowing both at once, and thus of comparing. The Classical age saw an
increased interest by the ruling classes, and the emerging intellectual class,2[2] in the affairs of the
productive classes. The realisation of the significance of microphysical power is parallelled by the
establishment of the subject as the final authority on belief (Luther), the foundation of knowledge
(Descartes), and the establisher of rights (Locke). These ideas gave power to masses who had hitherto
seen themselves as having none (hardly having seen themselves at all), and fuelled the Age of
Revolutions. The Classical discovery of the individual led, by the Romantic period, to its exaltation.
The belief in individual power and rights created a demand not only for access to the privileges
previously enjoyed only by the elite (such as say in the direction of society), but also for comparable
narrative distinctiveness.
As the romantics idealised the life of peasants, and socialists proclaimed the rights of workers,

who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there
are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an

That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate
what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an
airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk,
yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates
whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of
choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number
affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do
things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe
this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt
mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they
believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given
freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the
passage of this law error on the ethical egoism philosophy. This philosophy argues that our moral

Cultural Differences Between Poland and England
Culture may have its sources in different aspects of human life, as: language, nationality, education,

Differences between people within any given nation or culture are much greater than differences
between groups. Polish people and British, although have a lot of common in terms of historical
inheritance, they vary in many aspects of social life and these differences naturally affect the
behaviour and culture.

from centuries. According to the belief, the horsheshoe in the shape of letter U (the ends pointed up

of the horseshoe against evil spirits.
Differences between Poles and Britons manifest also in mentality. British people do not understand the
meaning of the verbs załatwic or kombinowac what can be explained as to make business, especially
if very clever but semi illegal or dishonest or simply if a person is in a fix and is trying to get out of it

a car, a refrigerator and a lot of other things. There is no an appropriate word for this in british
dictionary because the word derives from the thought and English people think in different categories.
Also, british approach towards politics and her representants is different from polish. Polish citizens
generally see their politics as cheats, thieves, liars. There is no such thing as social trust. It is a fact

One reason the Tea Party movement is an effective political force in our society is because it is
respectable, meaning others take it more seriously than other political forces. Kim Geiger of the Los

She also states that the average net worth of the House of Representatives in 2010 was $755,000 and
that the average net worth of the 60 Tea Party members in the House is $1.8 million. Not only are
these members apart of Congress, which places them pretty high in how much respect they receive
from others, but they are also very wealthy, which adds to their respect that much more. The Tea Party
movement is also respectable because it has received praise from other political figures in society who
are viewed as respectable. In an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, Rudy Giuliani said the
members of the Tea Party are respectable people (Nick Wing). In his article from the Huffington Post,
Wing also says that Giuliani even endorsed a Tea Party member who was a Republican candidate for

Alzheimer s A Progressive And Fatal Disease Of The Brain
According to Alzheimer.net, forty four million people, worldwide, are diagnosed with Alzheimer s
disease. In the United States, one out of nine people over the age of 65 are diagnosed with this disease,
and it ranks as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Two out of three people diagnosed
with Alzheimer s are women. Five point three million dollars are depleted every year from citizens
diagnosed with Alzheimer s. Alzheimer s is a progressive and fatal disease of the brain (Lu Bludua,
2011). This brain disease leads to deterioration of the brain, which leads to dementia. Dementia is the
loss of memory and mental abilities severe enough to affect the daily life (Lu Bludua, 2011). It begins
at the memory control center of the brain, and then progresses to the portions of the brain that control
reasoning, thinking, speaking, and seeing; therefore, it damages all parts of the brain.
According to Lu and Bludau, Alzheimer s influences many aspects such as the organ system, tissue,
cells, and organelles. The organ system affected is the brain, which performs numerous crucial tasks.
This disease impinges on the control center for all bodily functions. The vital body function that the
disease affects in the brain consist of: thinking, seeing, hearing, breathing, and body movements. It
hinders storing and making of memories and hinders the aptitude to feel emotions. There are three

The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime As rape and hate crimes are separated into different
categories, their definitions are almost exactly alike. Rape is the crime of having sexual intercourse
with a person against their will usually influenced by violence and the will for domination. Hate
crimes are physical crimes against a certain group; fortunately they also are usually influenced by
violence and the will for domination. Rape and hate crimes are a huge part of today s society however
they are protected under and placed in different categories, where as they should both be in the same
category. Rape should be categorized as a hate crime.

Bringing into account the crimes against the black race. Another large, well known hate group/clan
were the Nazi s. The Nazi s were against the Jewish religion, the white race, and the homosexuals.
Since the end of Adolph Hitler, Nazism has spread most rapidly since the 1980s because of the use
and availability of the Internet (Green haven). Adolph Hitler, the founder of the Nazi s, hated Jews,
whites, and homosexuals. Hitler tried killing off these races, the only group of people Hitler wanted
was people with blue eyes and blonde hair. In addition, he tried to dominate the other groups, which
he did well at, and he also fulfilled this sense of domination by extreme violence. Also this new
Nazism originated in Europe. In April 1995, a bombing happened in Oklahoma City. Timothy
McVeigh, the man who bombed Oklahoma City, killed at least 168 people (Green haven). Tom
Metzger was the founder of the White Aryan Resistance (W.A.R). Tom Metzger, 1981, a large people
involved in hate crimes wanted to bring ideology to the Ku Klux Klan. He also used technology to
spread knowledge about what he wanted to do. As a result to this, his followers appeared on television
shows. Unfortunately, their appearance on the Geraldo Rivera Show led to a violent brawl. Fortunately
in 1990 the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) won a civil suit against Tom Metzger for an
Ethiopian immigrant who had been murdered. This civil suit awarded the SPLC with $12.5 million.

Analysis Of Les Miserables
Les Miserables is by far one of my favorite stories/ movies. There are so many underlying views
though out. The original author of Les Miserables was Victor Hugo. Victor Hugo himself is a very
interesting gentleman that lived in a very complicated time period with lots of political issues, which I
believe come out in this movie.
Jean Valjean, is who Hugo chose as the hero of Les Miserables ultimately. However, in the beginning
it starts out by portraying him as a bad guy and someone who focuses on his hate. His hate is directed
at Inspector Javert, the officer who sentences him to his prison term, which was hard labor. Jean
Valjean s hatred for him, the inspector, and his vengeance tends to only fester throughout the movie.
Once paroled, Jean Valjean discovers the bishop of Digne along his path. The bishop takes him in and
gives him a place to stay along food. Jean Valjean decides to steal the bishops silverware. When the
bishop discovers that Jean Valjean has stolen his silver he shows him mercy and tells him kindly, Jean
Valjean, my brother, you no longer belong to what is evil, but to what is good. I have bought your soul
to save it from black thoughts and the spirit of perdition, and I give it to God . This explains the
importance of forgiveness and ultimately helps Jean Valjean understand that taking vengeance upon
Javert, the inspector that sentenced him to hard labor, is not the answer.
The movie shows Jean Valjean s life from a sinner basically being redeemed by

Rhetorical Analysis Of Blood, Toil, Tears, And Sweat
On May 13th, 1940, newly elected Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered a historic speech titled
Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat . He discusses the necessity of an empowered Great Britain in the
shadow of World War II; as well as his confidence within the strength of the British people. This
speech s lasting impact was reinforced by it s usage of the three appeals: ethos, logos, and pathos.
These appeals address the ethical, logical, and emotional ideas and undertones within a piece.
Churchill s iconic speech truly encapsulates these three appeals within every word.
Ethos is considered to be the ethical aspect of a piece. In other words: is the information and speaker
reputable and trustworthy? This appeal is clearly demonstrated within Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat .
For example, Churchill states
In this crisis I hope I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today. I hope that
any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the political
reconstruction, will make allowance, all allowance, for any lack of ceremony ... Show more content on

He demonstrates a sense of respect for those listening to his word and those who he works with, which
creates trust in the audience and gives a reputable air to his words. Logos refers to the logic of a work,
addressing if the piece is able to be understood and makes sense. This appeal is demonstrated in the
line Let that be realized; no survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire
has stood for (Churchill). Churchill frankly states that without action, the British Empire and its values
will crumble in the face of Nazi Germany. This clear and conscience delivery of Britain s fate is
logical and able to be understood. So in turn, the appeal logos can be

Women s Suffrage, Gender Equality, And The Right To Vote
Women s Suffrage This essay is about women s suffrage, gender equality, and the right to vote.
Women fought for a long time and women never stopped trying. Let s talk about some of the strategies
women used to earn the right to vote. There is many different ways women protested, here are just
some of the steps they took to get their rights. Do you think things have to be equal to be fair? Let s
find out. One reason why women suffered is because they would try to do everything they could do,
and it progressed to other countries. Women would hold signs, have marches, have sit ins, have
meetings, and would starve themselves to get equality. Women didn t feel like they were getting
treated fairly. The first woman to lead the women s suffrage was Millicent Fawcett, and Carrie
Chapman Catt. Grolier says This was formed in 1904, after a few years European countries decided to
vote...... Accordingly Allice Paul organized the National Women s party which used strategies like
mass marches and hunger strikes. The organization led to victory on August 26, 1920. The 19th
amendment granted the right for women to vote. Grolier explained One of the most politically astute
was Carrie Chapman Catt, who was named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although people might say yes to everything being fair, some people may disagree. Disagreements
may include not working hard enough or not earning it. It was suggested that women could not think
out matters calmly. Others would not agree to women s suffrage because they did not want change. A
further objection involved property. In 1900, few women were householders or lodgers, if the vote
were given to them, then it would have to be given also to men who were not householders or lodgers.
A reason why women didn t feel that boys wanted women s rights was because they didn t think
women were as good as men, at doing the same jobs as

Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay
Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature
throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity.
This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a
young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis
and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape
her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to
change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions,
it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close
attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself
with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe
to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and
Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s
experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her
race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality.
However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her
mother. This

Automobile In The Great Gatsby If you were to have to choose one invention that had the largest impact on everyday life during the 20th century, the invention of the automobile may just have been the most important and impactful. Although the technology existed during the late 19th century to produce an automobile, had it not been for Henry Ford and his assembly lines, the automobile may have never been brought into the hands of the general population. With the expansion of the automobile industry came an economic revolution during the 1920s across the continental United States as thousands of jobs were created with the introduction of highway systems in 1921 with the Federal Aid Highway Act. Scott Fitzgerald published a series of three essays in one of which he wrote: I dreamed that I saw always at the wheel of a magnificent Stutz, a Stutz as low as a snake and as red an Indiana Barn. (The Crack Up, Fitzgerald, 226) The cars that Fitzgerald owned in his life, from a Rolls Royce, to a Buick, a Stutz, a Packard, a Ford Coupe and finally a Ford convertible would be a comparison between the dreams and realities he had in his life in his journey from careless youth to a cautious, middle aged man which was greatly representative of the characters in his novels as well. Fitzgerald s descriptions of Jay Gatsby s Rolls Royce in his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby are very similar to that of Morrison s as it is described as being a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat boxes and upper boxes and tool boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind shields that mirrored a dozen suns. Sitting down behind many layers of glass in a sort of green leather conservatory, we started to town. (Fitzgerald, 68) We later get mention of our narrator Nick Carraway s car, which was an old Dodge . A Dodge during the 1920s was considered to have been one step above Henry Ford s Model T with its 35 horsepower 4 cylinder L head engine, 12 volt electrical system, electric starter rather than a manual crank (which would prove to be the cause of many broken wrists for Model T owners), and an all steel body, making it about double the price of a Model T at ... • 3. Chest To Glove Theory Pitching mechanics are one of the most controversial and complex things in all of sports. In the roughly 1.5 seconds that it takes for the pitcher to deliver a pitch, the pitcher uses almost every muscle in his body in a variety of ways. That is what makes it so difficult and also why it is so important that it is done correctly. There are many different ways of throwing a ball sixty feet six inches. Two of the main ones are chest to glove, and gloveside disconnect. The chest to glove theory is exactly what it sounds like, the pitcher tries to bring his chest to his glove in hopes of getting a further release point. Gloveside disconnect is a little bit more tricky. With this method the pitcher either points his glove towards the catcher or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these negatives is that pitchers can lose lots of trunk rotation by trying to bring chest to glove. A quote that supports this is by focusing too much on getting your glove out and bringing your chest forward you often tend to block yourself off (The Importance of Good Glove Arm Action). Blocking off means that the pitcher is not fully able to get over their front foot and is unable to follow through correctly . This causes them to lose trunk rotation which is a very important part of high velocity pitching mechanics (How to efficiently change pitching mechanics). While this seems to contradict that the chest to glove method gives more angular trunk velocity, the two are actually different. The difference is that angular trunk velocity is the speed at which the trunk is moving while trunk rotation is the amount of movement, not necessarily how fast it is going. Another negative is that chest to glove can lead to no follow through. The less trunk rotation there is, the less a pitcher is going to be able to follow through, which is vital to deceleration. Proper deceleration is also extremely important to injury prevention. No follow through will often lead to throwing pitches high, which is not good. Not following through leads to a further back release point. The further back their release point the more likely it becomes that the ball will fly out early. These are the negatives of the chest to glove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typically, it is used to help relax/calm a person, control/alleviate pain, and recover from whatever they re experiencing. Being susceptible to suggestion makes it easy to be affected mentally and physically. The hypnotist uses this to guide you or influence you into a certain situation. All throughout the story, Miss Emily exhibits many traits of a mentally ill person, but is never medically diagnosed. Faulkner writes, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care (245), meaning that she stuck to her Southern raised ways. She refused to conform to the modernization of the world around her. The narrator of this story seems to be a person that knows Miss Emily and her family very intimately. The narrator also considers themselves apart of the townspeople referred to as the we throughout the story. This story tells about the ups and downs in the extremely intriguing life of a woman that refuses to leave her past. After her death, the whole town went to her funeral: the men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house (Faulkner 244). No one had been into her home in at least a decade except for the workers. Faulkner uses imagery to describe the big, squarish framed house that had once been white (244). On the other hand, Wordsworth uses exaggeration in his poem to illustrate the positive aspects of London during the industrial revolution to illustrate the negative aspects of London blake uses exaggeration in lines eleven through twelve in his poem; And the hapless soldier s sigh runs in blood down palace walls (11 12). In this line William Blake is exaggerating the soldier s sigh because it didn t really run in blood down the palace walls. In order illustrate the positive aspects of London during industrial revolution; wordsworth uses exaggeration in the opening line of his poem. Earth has not anything to show more fair (1). In this line blake uses exaggeration to illustrate how captivated he is at the sunrise. This proves my point because through the use of exaggeration William Blake and William Wordsworth were able to show london in two different perspectives. Blake uses the five senses to help the reader picture how filthy London is in his poem. Wordsworth on the other hand, uses the five senses to help the reader picture how beautiful London is in his poem. In order to help his audience comprehend how filthy london is, william blake uses some of the five senses. He illustrates this well through the use of hearing. A strong example of this can be found in line thirteen: But most, through midnight streets I hear (13). Sound really makes a difference in our lives and he uses that to paint a clearer picture of how he perceives London. William Wordsworth uses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Authors incorporate Shakespeare s writing in some way and change things a bit to make their own story. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because many literary works are influenced by Shakespeare and other writings, which we can use to make connections and it can be considered as a text to text situation. A film called West Side Story is just like Romeo and Juliet because in both of the stories there are two rival groups and one person form one group falls in love with a person from their rival group. These two stories have common elements such as the rival gangs, and the type of love. Context The Bible is well recognized book, which has many allusions in it. The writers use these references to make it more meaningful. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because allusions can create a lot of imagery, which adds more meaning to it. Hammurabi of Babylon introduced his code centuries apart from Moses and his laws for the Hebrews; however, there are similarities shared between the two. Several reasons can be distinguished as to what accounts for the comparison within each set of laws. The time period, culture, and geographic location are responsible for the similarities and differences of Hammurabi s Code and The Law of Moses. Victor Hugo himself is a very interesting gentleman that lived in a very complicated time period with lots of political issues, which I believe come out in this movie. Jean Valjean, is who Hugo chose as the hero of Les Miserables ultimately. However, in the beginning it starts out by portraying him as a bad guy and someone who focuses on his hate. His hate is directed at Inspector Javert, the officer who sentences him to his prison term, which was hard labor. Jean Valjean s hatred for him, the inspector, and his vengeance tends to only fester throughout the movie. Once paroled, Jean Valjean discovers the bishop of Digne along his path. The bishop takes him in and gives him a place to stay along food. Jean Valjean decides to steal the bishops silverware. When the bishop discovers that Jean Valjean has stolen his silver he shows him mercy and tells him kindly, Jean Valjean, my brother, you no longer belong to what is evil, but to what is good. I have bought your soul to save it from black thoughts and the spirit of perdition, and I give it to God . This explains the importance of forgiveness and ultimately helps Jean Valjean understand that taking vengeance upon Javert, the inspector that sentenced him to hard labor, is not the answer. The movie shows Jean Valjean s life from a sinner basically being redeemed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Rhetorical Analysis Of Blood, Toil, Tears, And Sweat On May 13th, 1940, newly elected Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered a historic speech titled Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat . He discusses the necessity of an empowered Great Britain in the shadow of World War II; as well as his confidence within the strength of the British people. This speech s lasting impact was reinforced by it s usage of the three appeals: ethos, logos, and pathos. These appeals address the ethical, logical, and emotional ideas and undertones within a piece. Churchill s iconic speech truly encapsulates these three appeals within every word. Ethos is considered to be the ethical aspect of a piece. In other words: is the information and speaker reputable and trustworthy? This appeal is clearly demonstrated within Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat . For example, Churchill states In this crisis I hope I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today. I hope that any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the political reconstruction, will make allowance, all allowance, for any lack of ceremony ... He demonstrates a sense of respect for those listening to his word and those who he works with, which creates trust in the audience and gives a reputable air to his words. Logos refers to the logic of a work, addressing if the piece is able to be understood and makes sense. This appeal is demonstrated in the line Let that be realized; no survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for (Churchill). Churchill frankly states that without action, the British Empire and its values will crumble in the face of Nazi Germany. This clear and conscience delivery of Britain s fate is logical and able to be understood. So in turn, the appeal logos can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Women s Suffrage, Gender Equality, And The Right To Vote Women s Suffrage This essay is about women s suffrage, gender equality, and the right to vote. Women fought for a long time and women never stopped trying. Let s talk about some of the strategies women used to earn the right to vote. There is many different ways women protested, here are just some of the steps they took to get their rights. Do you think things have to be equal to be fair? Let s find out. One reason why women suffered is because they would try to do everything they could do, and it progressed to other countries. Women would hold signs, have marches, have sit ins, have meetings, and would starve themselves to get equality. Women didn t feel like they were getting treated fairly. The first woman to lead the women s suffrage was Millicent Fawcett, and Carrie Chapman Catt. Grolier says This was formed in 1904, after a few years European countries decided to vote...... Accordingly Allice Paul organized the National Women s party which used strategies like mass marches and hunger strikes. The organization led to victory on August 26, 1920. The 19th amendment granted the right for women to vote. Grolier explained One of the most politically astute was Carrie Chapman Catt, who was named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although people might say yes to everything being fair, some people may disagree. Disagreements may include not working hard enough or not earning it. It was suggested that women could not think out matters calmly. Others would not agree to women s suffrage because they did not want change. A further objection involved property. In 1900, few women were householders or lodgers, if the vote were given to them, then it would have to be given also to men who were not householders or lodgers. A reason why women didn t feel that boys wanted women s rights was because they didn t think women were as good as men, at doing the same jobs as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity. This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions, it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality. However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her mother. This ...
