Mary Wollstonecraft Metaphors
~ The utilization of metaphors and similes throughout Mary Wollstonecraft s piece conveys the
argument that she poses to society. The added effect of the powerful metaphors incorporated into
her writing is evidently necessary in order to illuminate her main viewpoints. Mary Wollstonecraft
compares the way women act to mere animals and the way such children should be expected to act
. The comparison between mere animals and women depicts how society has stripped away
women s dignity by poorly educating them. She further explains that women are portrayed as
acting like children and are not able to act like stable adults in their relationships. To Wollstonecraft,
women were currently seen as ignorant as they would nickname God s creatures ... Show more

Mary Wollstonecraft adds on to her argument by comparing the way women were viewed as
insignificant objects of desire by their male counterparts. At the time, society crafted women
into physical entities for men that would provide pleasures for them at any time they wished.
Without the proper education, women could do little to prove themselves to be worth more than
just objects. The metaphor that Wollstonecraft utilized was key in advocating for the education
of women as it represented how they were defenseless and only seen to be slaves in the eyes of
men. She comparison is vital to the piece as she is stating how women were seen in her time and
how there needed to be reform in order to improve their stance in society. Moreover, she
illuminates that once women short lived bloom of beauty is over, they will be useless in their
relationships. She compares the minimal importance of beauty in a relationship of that of a flower.
Beauty only gets women so far in a relationship, and education will improve women s roles in the
relationship. She presents the metaphor to as a persuasive argument that may appeal to

Censorship In Music
Music is an expressive, vivid form of art. The influence of music has a huge impact with every
age group in the world. When people think of music they automatically think of how it makes
them feel which most of the time is good. They don t comprehend the provocative lyrics or what
the song s meaning really is. People have become used to this insulting and offensive language
found on just about any song. Every song being released today contains some sort of graphical,
sexual, or explicit lyric. Today s graphic music encourages violence, degradation of women , and
influences young children negatively. First of all, censoring graphic, explicit, and sexual lyricsmay
preserve children s innocence until their parents think it is time to discuss... Show more content on

Karen Dill, author of Violent rap lyrics make listeners more accepting of violence , states: Radio
personality Don Imus referred to a college women s basketball team as nappy headed ho s . Dill
also argues, ... many responded that the racist and sexist language was acceptable because the
type of language is used by minorities in rap music . Rap music has made their own image of
what women are in their eyes and this has caused others to treat females a certain way. Women
have always been portrayed as weak, feisty, helpless, property, and more. Females start to believe
this about themselves having low self esteem, not wanting to be in relationships, and thinking they
aren t good enough. In reality, they might not feel that way, but that s how they are talked about in
music so they believe they need to be that way. According to the author of The public should
criticize violent music lyrics, women are objectified, often in the most obscene and degrading ways
(Brownback). For example, Wildflower by Ghostface Killah had a very set way on how they
described women. The song is full of disgusting comments towards women calling her a bitch ,
stank hoe , dumb bitch , and a chickenhead hoe (Ghostface Killah). Ghostface Killah also brings up
him cheating on her and how he had sexual relations with her while she was bleeding. The lyrics
used in this song are meant to bring

Senior Management Plan
When the project team and resources are set, we should get started with the plan. It is necessary to
introduce the concept of planning into the organization. Senior management/personnel should

How Did George Orwell Influence Business
George Orwell lived through a decent and normal childhood; however, his childhood was
influential to his life. Incidents that occurred later in his life eventually fine tuned the opinions he
formed as a child. These opinions made Orwell recognizable, for his political views determined the
plot and allegory of his famous novels such as Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty four. George
Orwells beliefs impacted his business life and personal life alike.
George Orwell lived a semi comfortable childhood with his mother and sister in England. Eric
Arthur Blair, more famously known by his pseudonym, George Orwell, was born on June 25th,
1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India to Richard Walmesley Blair and Ida Mabel Blair. Blair s father was

Although Blair faced hardships and disadvantages throughout his primary schooling, his
intelligence won him scholarships to Wellington and Eton Secondary Schools in 1917. He

After completing his schooling at Eton, he registered that his path had led to a dead end.
Although Blair was offered a scholarship to a university, his funds had substantially decreased
and could not cover college tuition. Instead, he decided to follow in his father s footsteps and
serve in the Indian Imperial Force, where Blair formed opinions on Britain s widely controversial
imperialism actions. He served from 1922 1927 in Burma. While on leave in England in 1927,
Blair decided to pursue his adolescent dream, a career in writing, and resigned from the force. He
had realized that the army unfairly oppressed the Burmese people due to their race and social
status which caused him shame and disappointment. Because he felt guilty from the occurrences of
repression due to imperialism, race, and the class system, a spark was lighted in

Alcohol Abuse Research Paper
The negative effect of alcohol have been well documented and scientifically proven. The United
States National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that 1,825 college students
between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from alcohol related unintentional injuries. furthermore
599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the
influence of alcohol. These statistics show just how easy it is for young drinkers to abuse alcohol.
Many young drinkers are aware of such statistics. Despite that they continue to consume alcohol.

A couple of years ago, he wrote an article called Lessons My Sons Taught Me. In this article
Chiarella discusses various things he learned about shopping just by watching his sons shop.
Here we see Chiarella using the concept of learning through observation again. The fact that
Chiarella uses this concept in real life makes his argument a lot more reliable, because we see
that he is not just writing about this concept he is actually using it in real life. In the article we
also learn that he has two sons. His older son is eighteen and his younger son is sixteen. What that
tells us about him is that although he drinks, he was still able to build a family. He has mastered
alcohol indeed. Additionally, he also writes about many different topics such as money, life, sports
,music, and psychology. This shows us that his life does not revolve around alcohol. He is
interested in many other things. He writes about different forms of entertainment, unlike Bukowski
who only wrote about the struggles of life. This is another great example for young drinkers. They

Notes On Redeeming Savings Bonds Essay
When redeeming savings bonds that are property of the estate, reporting rules from the IRS can
make the transaction complex. As depicted in the article Redeeming Series E Savings Bonds of
the Decedent, redeeming savings bonds is not a difficult process. However, reporting the interest
income earned on the savings bonds is where the complexities exist. As a result, implications may
result for the estate if the executor is not aware of the rules the IRS set forth for reporting interest
income on the savings bonds.
Note: Savings bonds in this article refer to series E, series EE, and series I savings bonds.
Reporting rules from the IRS are similar to these three series of savings bonds. Basic Facts about
the Series E Savings Bonds
To properly explore the implications of redeeming savings bonds, an overview of some basic rules
is necessary. Here are some basic rules for savings bonds provided by the website Treasury Direct:
Redeeming savings bonds can only occur after the bonds are 12 months old.
All series E and series EE savings bonds that stop earning interest at maturity should be redeemed.
If the savings bonds are series EE savings bonds and redeemed before the bonds were 5 years old,
you will lose the last three months of interest.
Savings bonds are fully taxable at the federal level, but tax exempt at the state and local level.
Interest income from savings bonds are subject to federal estate, gift, and excise taxes as well as

Dystrophin Analysis
Dystrophin is encoded by the largest known human gene Dmd, which spans about 2.4 Mb of
Xp21 and is composed of 79 exons (Den Dunnen et al., 1989; Koenig et al., 1987). Alternative
promoters and splicing produce tissue specific isoforms of dystrophin, including the full length
Dp427 in skeletal and cardiac muscles, Dp260 in retina, Dp140 in brainand kidney, Dp116 in
peripheral nerves, and ubiquitous Dp71 (Muntoni et al., 2003). Although predominant in skeletal
and cardiac muscles, Dp427 also expresses in testes (t Hoen et al., 2008). Dystrophin is a rod
shaped cytoskeletal protein linking extracellular laminin and intracellular F actin in muscles to
mediate force transmission as well as signaling transduction (Brenman et al., 1995; Ervasti and
Campbell, 1993; Koenig et al., 1988). Apart from the mechanical role, dystrophin also regulates
asymmetric division of satellite cells by regulating the polarity of a microtubule kinase MARK2
(Dumont et al., 2015).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like dystrophin, utrophin contains N terminal actin binding domain and C terminal dystroglycan
biding domain (Tinsley et al., 1992). The nucleic acids and amino acids of Utrophin respectively
share 65% and 80% identity with dystrophin (Love et al., 1989). Utrophin expresses ubiquitously in
many fetal and adult tissues, including liver, spleen, skeletal muscle and testis (Love et al., 1991).
Utrophin localizes in the neuromuscular junction of adult skeletal muscles, whereas it relocalizes to
the sarcolemma in regenerating muscle fibers (Amenta et al., 2011; Ohlendieck et al., 1991).
Sarcolemmal recruitment and upregulation of utrophin in the skeletal muscle of the mdx, the most
common animal model of DMD with a nonsense mutation in exon 23, imply the compensatory role
of utrophin for the loss of dystrophin (Amenta et al., 2011; Banks et al., 2014; Bulfield et al.,

Amd Remediation At Shoup s Run Watershed
AMD Remediation at Shoup s Run Watershed
Alanna O Neil
Introduction:
The main pollutant of surface water in the mid Atlantic region is Acid Mine Drainage, AMD, also
called Abandoned Mine Drainage. AMD is a nonpoint source pollution that has degraded more than
4,500 stream miles, in just the mid Atlantic region, due to the drainage of metal rich water from
mining activities (Jacobs). The runoff is extremely acidic due to the exposure of pyrite containing
rocks, a sulfur bearing mineral (FeS2), during mining activities, and the chemical reactions
associated with the contact of air and water with such rocks. As a result of such chemical reactions,
sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is produced. Several chemical reactions take place and are as follows:
1.2FeS2(s) + 7O2 (g) +2H2O(l) в†’ 2Fe2+(aq) + 4SO4 2(aq) + 4H+(aq) 2.4Fe2+(aq) + O2 (g) +
4H+(aq) в†’ 4Fe3+(aq) + 2H2O(l) 3.4Fe3+(aq) + 12H2O(l) в†’ 4Fe(OH)3 (s) + 12H+(aq) The 3
reactions combine to be: 4FeS2(s) + 15O2 (g) +14H2O(l) в†’ 4Fe(OH)3 (s) + 8SO4 2(aq) +
16H+(aq) The first reaction involves pyrite rock reacting with oxygen (air) and water to produce
dissolved ferrous iron, sulfate, and acidity. The second reaction oxidizes the dissolved ferrous
iron in acidic conditions and produces ferric iron and water. The third reaction involves the
hydrolysis of the ferric iron to form ferric hydroxide and more acid. The ferric hydroxide is the
orangey red colored solid you see in the water (Juniata College). Due to mines from the 1800s

Ohio s Strongest Economic Industry
Ohio s strongest economic industry is Agribusiness. Through agriculture, Ohio farmers have rooted
a connection throughout the globe in feeding and supplying resources needed in life each day.
Since the 1800 s native Ohioans have relied on agriculture not only for a source of nourishment but
as a means of making a living. Ohio s original settlers, the Native Americans, supported themselves
through farming. The Indians grew corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, multi colored Indian corn,
numerous varieties of beans, including kidney beans, navy and pea beans, pinto beans, great
northern marrow beans, and yellow eye beans. Ohio Indians grew many other vegetables, including
turnips, cabbage, parsnips, sweet potatoes, yams, and onions and leeks (Agricultureand Farming in
Ohio). The Europeans introduced the watermelon and muskmelon into North America in the
seventeenth century, and Indians in the interior were growing these fruits within a few years
(Agriculture and Farming in Ohio). Today, there are more than seven billion people roaming earth
and each and everyone, have since the beginning of time shared one thing in common; a need for
food and nutrition for survival. Ohio is a state based on agriculture and Ohioans can be thankful for
that. Agriculture is Ohio s top industry, contributing $105 billion to Ohio s economy with actual
farm gate receipts of $9.65 billion (The Ohio Farm Bureau). The most recent farm census in 2012

Liberal Arts College Advantages
A Liberal Arts college is common among my vocabulary as that s the type of college I attend, but I
didn t specifically understand what in fact a Liberal Arts college was until now. Most think college

offer specific degrees or they are known for specific areas of field work. For example Texas A M is
mainly known for its veterinary field, Texas Tech is going to be where you find your engineer
students and Liberal Artscolleges offer a wide range of selections. They are often known for more
than being good at just one thing. While in my opinion Liberal Arts is a great choice not

They ended up defeating the defending champions and it was a big deal because in this time it

Analysis Of The C C s Management
Executive Summary:
Calyx and Corolla (C C) is a company started by Ruth M. Owades in 1988, which delivers fresh
flowers to the customers using courier service Federal Express. Customers can choose from a
wide range of fresh flowers and bouquets and make an order via phone or fax and get it delivered
to their houses. During 1990, it had consummated over 150k transactions, yielding revenues in
excess of $10 million. C C was exceptionally promising yet it s still a partly proven, start up
company. The main challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flowerselling
outlets, less customer base that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it
should change its current strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the
traditional outlets, such as florists and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a
major advertising campaign to go head to head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who
their customers should be? As a small company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited
marketing resources to reach potential customers.
Goal and goal defense:
C C is a small player in a large market that has remarkable growth potential. As a company, C C

Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The
basic objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees
maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely
to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards
that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a
standard so that it will make sense to them.
Corrective discipline:
Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further
infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action
is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension
with or without pay.
POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION
In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set
of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function
successfully.
Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the
relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure.
The code is based on the following principles:
The right of management to take appropriate disciplinary steps against any worker, who acts in a

Kmart Corporation And Its Impact On The Retail Market
The name Kmart Corporation was first known as Kmart Discount Stores. One of the first stores
was opened in Garden City, MI. This company was well known for great in pocket discounts for
consumers. This was the true five and dime retailer. It was also the template for other retailers such
as Walmart.
The road from the original model to the current operation is long and broad. Kmart stores represent
a dynamic example of growth and change, evolving and expanding into several retail market areas.
They have gone through transformations from the original five and dime ideology, to discount

The shoe and clothing industry, although not foreseen directly, there are seasonal highs and lows
that come with the business. These are reflected, as such for example with the holidays. Products
must be available, in stock, in order to be presented as saleable items to the customer. This is also
overhead. Depending on the state of the economy, it can very well require sums of money being
tied up in overhead, that could possibly lead to loss should the economy be in a downturn.
I believe, that should Kmart focus on returning to its original company development, it can regain
its market share. The original five and dime philosophy worked. A successful approach that, at one
time may have become somewhat outdated, but the greatest growth and expansion has in fact
happened with the furtherance of the discount retailer motto. The shrinkage of excess overhead,
and labor would enable the company to explore the development of a stronger base line. As stated,
At its peak, the Kmart property accommodated 5,000 employees. When it was sold in 2005, it had
fewer than 1,900, many of whom were transferred to Illinois (Crain Communication, 2016). Buying

The Importance Of Sin In The Crucible
Puritans want to purify the world and destroy sin that goes around in it. They broke off from the
Roman Catholic Church, for they had separate beliefs and felt mistreated. Their beliefs included
many of the same ideals of a catholic, but they took those ideals to an extreme. They believed that
sinning had something to do with the devil controlling the human body. The Puritans strongly
believed that lying to others was an ultimate sin, and they were to only tell the truth. Moreover, God
didn t appreciate his followers to lie. In the Crucible, Elizabeth was in the wrong for lying about
his lechery, because lying is against her religion, and once John confessed, there wasn t much
Elizabeth could ve done for John except tell the truth. She was also known to be a truthful person,
so she shouldn t have lied and sticked with what she knew, consciously, was right.
Again, lying to the court about lechery was the wrong decision; furthermore, Elizabeth went
against her religion, and made John seem like a liar. Due to John accusing Abigail of lying, once
Elizabeth lied about the lechery, it made his accusation sound like a lie. Danforth explains to
Abigail, But likewise, children, the law and bible damn all bearers of false witness (Crucible. 3.

religion. Danforth says this because he can then connect law to religion as a church and state
collaboration. Danforth tries to intimidate

Investigating The Friction Of A Sliding Block With And...
Introduction
Friction is a force that is directed against the direction of motion. It usually acts to slow down the
moving object. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are
making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In
this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block
with and without different masses on it.
Procedure
Description of setup
We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was
then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below.
The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and
the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤
looking button to zero.
Outline of technique
It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was
weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the
woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the
graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system
in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace.
Various other massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded

Adoption, Domestic And International Adoption Essay

Many people want to have their own children, but what are other options? Adoption gets helpless
children out of the foster care system, but having their own child gives them a better connection.
Three reasons why parents should adopt is because it helps get kids out of foster care, adopted
families have all the same rights as families formed from birth, and adopting a child helps parents
start a family if they can t get pregnant. Although some people think that having their own child is
better, adoption is better because it gives children new and permanent homes, also it helps parents
start a family. Furthermore, adoption is a way for children who cannot be cared for by their birth
parents to become members of another family. There are two different types of adoption,
Domestic and International adoption. Domestic adoption is when a child is born in a country and
adopted in the same country. International adoption is when a child living in one country is
adopted by a family living in a different country. Through adoption, children s legal ties with their
birth parents are needed so they can begin a relationship approved by law with their adoptive
parents. (Adoption) Adoption helps provide children with new and permanent homes. Each year,
130,000 children are adopted, increasingly from other countries. (Adoption) As you can see many
children have benefitted from the adoption process, 130,000 children are now happy in

A good writer s depiction of setting positions the reader right into the story. In To Build a Fire by
Jack London, the setting plays a significant role throughout the entire short story. London uses
certain techniques to establish the atmosphere of the story. By introducing his readers to the setting,
prepares them for a tone that is depressed and frightening. Isolated by the hostile environment of the
Yukonin sub freeing temperatures, a man falls victim to the unrelenting and unforgiving power of

he stands on a bank of the Yukon about to plunge into an almost absolute wilderness, he has little
or no understanding either of his immense isolation relative to his surroundings or of the extreme
danger posed by the cold snap. But all of this, London comments at the beginning of the third
paragraph, The mysterious, far reaching hair line trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the
tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all, made no impression on the man.
Thus, the man also knows, in addition to the fact the sun will reappear, that it is fifty degrees

himself vulnerable to its ability to kill. Fifty degrees below zero was to him just precisely fifty

Why I Chose The Profession Of Pharmacy Essay
Nothing is so dangerous to the progress of the human mind than to assume that our views of science
are ultimate, that there are no mysteries in nature, that our triumphs are complete and that there are
no new worlds to conquer. Humphry Davy (1778 1229), British chemist and inventor. This quote
sums up my desire to pursue a degree in pharmacy. My interest is in finding ways to improve the
field of pharmacy by thinking in a way that makes it possible to look at every unknown in
medicines and find a way to produce an answer. I chose the profession of pharmacy for many
reasons, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is a step towards reaching my goals, and my background is a
large part of me achieving my goals.
I chose the profession of pharmacy for personal reasons. My mother is a pharmacist in an
independent pharmacy. As a child, I went to work with her and saw what she did daily. I began
to like going to work with her and watch her check prescriptions, along with many other things.
Even when she was out of the pharmacy, she would see customers in public and it was nice to
see her say hello t these people I did not even know. I could tell the pharmacy had its own small
town feel, where everyone knew each other. I liked the idea of that. Also, as I got further along
in school, I had an interest in science and math. I realized how much I liked classes like chemistry
lab. Being able to watch reactions was very interesting to me. Along with my sparked interest as a
child and in school, I

Taking a Look at Regular Warfare
As noted in the Small Wars Manual (SWM), Regular war never takes exactly the form of any of
its predecessors, so, even to a greater degree is each small war somewhat different from anything
that preceded it. The SMW was originally published in 1935 and written as a response to a call for
doctrine after the Philippine War and numerous small wars in Central and South America, the
banana wars. Military leadership recognized the importance of irregular warfareand unfortunately
due to World War II, switched their focus towards regular warfare. However, some would argue
that WWII ended with a tone of irregular warfare due to the development and use of the atomic
bomb. It was outside the paradigm of Napoleonic styled warfare with massive unit formations
facing each other on the plains of battle. Since a vast majority of wars over the last 100 years
have been fought using the irregular warfare construct it would be extremely important for the
US military to train and equip a sizable piece of the force to focus on fighting an irregular war.
However, this does not negate the need to train and equip forces to fight a regular war. Our
strategic policy should be to fully incorporate irregular warfare into our defense industrial complex
to provide for the greatest coverage of war contingencies.
Neither type of war should take priority over the other. In fact, each is dependent on each other. We
need the ships, planes, and tactical logistics equipment to provide irregular warfighters

Self-Esteem And Self Esteemcy
Build their self esteem, self determination and efficacy
From the different challenges identified, it was established that adolescent girls were often
confronted with many identity conflicts and low self esteem. It was during the adolescent stage that
many girls experience new societal expectations and responsibilities, which often resulted in
identity confusion or internal conflict that needed to be resolved during adolescence. Consequently,
the best ways of engaging girls were to first build their self esteem, self determination, self efficacy
and confidence. According to Powell (2004), by being supportive and giving tasks and challenges
that raise self esteem, adolescent girls may be able to have success in school and develop self
motivation. Powell (2004) stressed the need for supportive environments and the need to allow
adolescents to develop their own unique identities. According to Erickson (1968), adolescents were
often at the fifth psychosocial stage of human development. This stage was called Identity versus
Identity Confusion. According to Erickson, if adolescents were not allowed to explore their new
roles and follow a future positive path, they may remain confused about their identity. Resolving
conflicts during adolescence, according to Erickson, assists adolescents to become who they would
be, unique individual, progressing further into higher developmental stages. Erickson noted that for
adolescents to become autonomous, their self concept and self esteem

us by our mishandling of our monthly budgets.
When you search on the Internet for a loan, you ll see there are many websites devoted to this
industry. If you can find one closer to your area, it could serve you better. Some lenders of these
loans are restricted to their own areas. There is a bit of controversy surrounding this industry in
many places, and some states are trying to shut these resources down.
Many people and officials claim that these payday loans are preying on people who are down
financially, and taking advantage. They feel these lenders are merciless, greedy, and gluttonous,
making their profits off the misfortune of others. But others say you need to look at some of the
traditional loan institutions before being so quick to judge.
In reality, a payday loan can be cheaper than having a bank overdraft. Overdrafts today are quite
expensive. When you obtain a payday loan for paying off overdraft fees, it might cost you, but not
as much as incurring another overdraft fee. If you any type of disconnection charges, you ll

Essay on The Global Warming Debate
The concept of global warming has become one of the most widely debated and controversial
topics of our time. Scientists learned long ago that the earth s climate has powerfully shaped the
history of humanity. However, it is only in the past few decades that research has revealed that
humans have a significant influence on the climate as well. A growing body of scientific evidence
indicates that since 1950, the world s climate has been warming, primarily as a result of emissions
from the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of tropical forests. More importantly, an article
titled Global Warmingpublished in the New York Times shows that methane, a gas that is emitted
from landfills, livestock and oil gas facilities,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sources for this paper include articles, books, and websites. Terms will be defined as the arguments
are presented. Scientists who believe in global warming say that global warming is the result of
carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket,
trapping the sun s heat which causes the earth to heat up. In fact, according to Amber Jenkins, site
editor for Global Warming: Vital Signs of the Planet, meteorologists at NASA (National Aeronautics
Space Administration) have reported that Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, and
possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global temperature has
increased by approximately 0.5 1.0В°F (0.3 0.6В°C) over the last century (Jenkins). However, CEI
scientists have reported that there is no proof that rising temperatures are linked to global warming.
The Earth has gone through various periods of cooling and warming throughout its history. The
rising temperatures are simply the Earth warming itself up from the previous ice age (Competitive
Enterprise Institute). Contrasting with the virtual world of computer simulations, the real world
presents a very different picture. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) website even states
that: During the last 2,000 years, there have been departures from the stability of earth s natural

Military Draft No longer Necessary Essay
Military Draft No Longer Necessary
Over forty years has passed since the United States inducted the last draftee through the Selective
Service System. The Selective Service System is an independent agency of the United States,
which gives the President the right or power to conscript men for military service. There have
been different Acts passed by congress since 1917 that require men of various ages to register for
service. Although, the name of each Act and the age requirements of the registries changed, the
Acts were all similar in nature. They all gave the President the right to call men to war when he

Since the conscription ended in 1973, the number of members has grown considerably over the
years. Men and women alike enlist for many different reasons; from educational purposes, for the
adventure, and/or other benefits the military has to offer. Many enlist just because they want to
defend and serve the country they live in and no other reason. However, all that do enlist want to
be there doing what they are doing, not because someone told them they have to. The armed forces
haven t had any problems recruiting, and are recruiting more than their goal. According to the
Department of Defense, they are recruiting anywhere from 100 to 105% of their goal each year.
Which leads to another reason we should not reinstate the draft, the draft is not needed because the
all volunteer forces have been successful in serving our country for over 40 years through both war
and peace. Melvin Laird, Secretary of Defense (1969 1973), stated in his article in the Washington

successful by every measure (Wahingtonpost.com). For more than a decade, the U.S. military has
been able to sustain combat in Iraq and Afghanistan while meeting other global responsibilities. The

The Management System Of An Organization
Introduction In recent years, a lot of organizations have emphasized more on efficiency and
effectiveness due to higher rate of competition in the industry. This shift in focus is meant to
allow organization to deliver the best in class product and service by improving the key
performance metrics (Institute for Operation Excellence, 2012). Operation excellence focuses
on the entire area of an organization. The area of focus can be broken down into 3, behavior,
management system, and process. For any change to be sustainable, the people s behavior has to
be such that can support it. People s behavior and mindset has to change, everybody has to
contribute regardless of what level of organization. The management system piece is also a key
because of the impact of management support that is needed to promote operation excellence
within an organization. Process is where it directly impacts the product. It has to be improved to
meet a best in class standard, either by line balancing, implementing a lean flow, or by other form
of improvement (Duggan, 2011). Every employee involved should be able to see the value flow
from the organization to the customer and vice versa. Some industries struggle in their
implementation of operation excellence. For a successful implementation, there has to be a right
definition, one that every employee at every level of the organization understand what it means and
how their role impacts it. As much as operation excellence shows a lot of positive

The Communist Manifesto And Das Kapital
Karl Marx
A German philosopher, economist, journalist and revolutionary scientist, Marx was best known
for his work in economics. He laid the foundations for today s theories of labor and capital. The
Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital were among the most famous of his published works.
Born to a middle class family in Trier, Prussia in 1818, his parents were Jewish, but converted to
Christianity in 1816 due to strict anti Jewish laws. He was baptized as a Christian at the age of
six but later on became an atheist (Staff, 2009). He received his education in universities of
Berlin and Jena and started following G.W.F. Hegel, the German philosopher whom at that time
was seeking a dialectical system of philosophy. In 1842, He became editor of a liberal
democratic newspaper in Cologne called the Rheinische Zeitung. He had worked with the
newspaper until 1843 when the Prussian authorities shut it down for becoming outlandish in its
reports. The same year after the paper was shut down, he went to Paris to co edit a new political
review. Marx adopted an extreme form of socialism which called for a revolution by the working
class that would tear down the capitalist world. This ideology will be known as communism. In
Paris, he befriended Friedrich Engels, a fellow Prussian who shared his views and was to become
a lifelong collaborator. In 1845, due to his writings and ideas, Marx was removed from France and
settled in Brussels. There, Marx renounced his Prussian nationality and

Why Is The Byzantine Empire Successful
Success of the Byzantine Empire under Justinian
What defines success? Some may say an empire needs a strong army and defence to be the most
successful. Some say that great coded laws and reforms make for the most successful empire. Some
may say that a great government defines success. But the Byzantine Empire under Justinian Rule
showed us that in order to achieve the most success, all of these factors were needed. The
Byzantine Empire under Justinian was successful for a long period of time because of a well
organized government, an amazing leader, and a strong army and defense force. The success came
from a strong government, with ministers doing separate jobs and an organized provincial
government, who established coded laws and reforms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first reason why Justinian caused the Byzantine empire to succeed during his reign was
because of his new coded system of laws. Justinian inherited a vast amount of Roman laws,
called the twelve tables. (Allen Evans 24, Commire). In 528, Justinian set up a commission to
codify the Roman law (Ostrogorski 74). 1528 books of Roman law were scanned and combined
into fifty books divided into 432 chapters (Allen Evans 24). The work was called the Digest, and
had immediate impacts on the Byzantine Empire and then it s long success (Allen Evans 24,
Commire). Lawyers were able reference the laws in court, allowing fairer decisions to be made.
The government, now was not only supported by its army, was also supported by the law (Allen
Evans 24, Commire). Both of these things were very important to the success of the empire.
Civilians had the ability to go to court and make sure that decisions were based on hundreds of
years of law written out in one place, and not an impulsive decision of a judge. The government
also had an extreme benefit in terms of having written out code of law, so there could be no
arguments in terms of taxation or punishments. This attributed to the success of the empire
because this helped stabilize the empire because important decisions could have been made based
on hundreds of years of law and farer decisions prevented revolts. Coded laws also

The Physics Of Scuba Diving Essay example
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to swim with the fish and explore the underwater
jungle that covers two thirds of the earth s surface? I have always been interested in water
activities; swimming, diving and skiing, and I felt that scuba was for me. My first dive took place
while on a family vacation. I came across a dive shop offering introductory dives, which
immediately caught my interest. After much convincing (my parents), with my solemn assurance
that I would be careful, I was allowed to participate in a dive.
I was ready, or so I thought. The slim basics such as breathing were explained and I was literally
tossed in. Sounds easy enough, right!, well WRONG!!. From the moment I hit the water, my

Scuba diving is the most frequently used mode in recreational diving and, in various forms, is also
widely used to perform underwater work for military, scientific, and commercial purposes.
There were many steps in the development of a successful self contained underwater system. In
1808, Freiderich yon Drieberg invented a bellows in a box device that was worn on the diver s back
and delivered compressed air from the surface. This device, named Triton, did not actually work
but served to suggest that compressed air could be used in diving, an idea initially conceived of by
Halley in 1716. (Ketels, 9)
In 1865, two French inventors, Rouquayrol and Denayrouse, developed a suit that they described
as self contained. In fact, their suit was not self contained but consisted of a helmet using surface
supported system that had an air reservoir that was carried on the diver s back and was sufficient
to provide one breathing cycle on demand. The demand valve regulator was used with surface
supply largely because tanks of adequate strength were not yet available to handle air at high
pressure. This system s demand valve, which was automatically controlled, represented a major

My Vacation To Punta Cana
My Truth Essay
This year on Spring Break my family went on vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We
traveled there a couple of times when I was younger, but don t have any memories except for the
flight. I want to share two favorite things that were awesome about our trip, the food and the gift
shops. I really enjoyed both of them because the food tasted delicious and the gift shops had a
bunch of cool items such as chocolate, medication, beach towels, and a lot of expensive jewelry and
antiques that just cost too much.
The food in the Dominican Republic always tasted like it came from a restaurant and I never was
concerned about it because it was an all inclusive resort. The food was really delicious. Whenever

The breakfast omelettes were a favorite of everyone at our table. We feasted on freshly grilled
steaks and mouth watering desserts like fruits we dipped in a chocolate fountain, gourmet
brownies, and fancy pies. I could smell the bacon sizzling from a mile away. I could hear the
chefs cooking, laughing, and enjoying working together from behind their stations. The waiters
and waitresses at the resort were very nice, polite, and were always very entertaining whenever
they walked up to you. Another fantastic part about the servers is most of them knew how to
speak English clearly which is kind of unusual because they live in the Dominican Republic
where most of the community speaks Spanish. Sometimes we waited in a long line of people to
fill our plates the food was incredible, the waiters and waitresses were fabulous, and the
atmosphere was warm. A couple nights a local band of musicians played songs and strolled
around the dining room. The only bad part about the buffet was the other people because they
were loud. Some families would always make a lot of noise and were too many people in line for
the food. The family members that went along with me were my mom, my dad, my

New Zealand And India Trade Agreement Essay
INTRODUCTION:
New Zealand and India are big market economies with voracious need to expand. They are trying to
expand and strengthen their foundation in International market and maximize the benefits from it.
They are promoting the competitiveness and sustainable development of their economies and
welfare and prosperity of their people eventually improving their positions in global economy.
Efforts are being put in by both these countries at multilateral and regional levels to promote trade
and economic liberalization on their economic and political relationship. In the year 2007, the
government foreign officials of both these countries agreed to negotiate a Free TradeAgreement
(FTA)/.
New Zealand and India share a positive and longstanding bilateral relationship. Despite strong
growth in the past, the bilateral trade and economic relationship is currently under potential. Both
the economies are complimentary to each other and there is a considerable potential to increase the
economic relations and bilateral trade. Once the FTA effectively addresses the current barriers to
trade and tariffs then there should be considerable improvement in the trade relationship for both
the countries.

The Role And Development Of Gender Stereotypes In Society
There is no doubt that gender stereotypes have been a common practice throughout time. In most
societies, women have had the disadvantage when compared to the almighty male. The
responsibility of each sex has been delegated by physical and social means. Throughout history,
females largely played the lesser of genderroles, but certain criteria of specific aspects of male
expectations can negatively harm the psyche and physique. Due to social conditioning, male s
willingness to cry is heavily impacted because expressing emotionsimilar to a female is criticized
by social normality s.
On a molecular level, men acquire the hormone, testosterone, which makes them physically superior
to females. Testosterone is the, hormone responsible for male secondary sex characteristics such as
beard, body build, and voice, and aggression ( Male Sex Hormones and Aggression to Be Studied.
224). In a nomadic culture, strength is crucial to survival, thus the development of gender
stereotypes. Due to the fact that men have more testosterone than women, their responsibility was
to hunt game and offer protection for their people. However women, produce estrogen. Estrogen is
a hormone released that causes secondary sex characteristic in women (Shirtcliff). Women fulfilled
the position as a homeВmaker . Considering the physical aspects of both genders, men held the
dominant roll in society.
As civilization formed a pathway of inferiority for women, it also created unrealistic ideals for male

Parkinson s Disease Affects The Nervous System And Neurons
It is estimated that in one cubic millimeter of brain tissue, there are one billion connections between
neurons. A neuron is the fundamental unit of the nervous system. A neuron s basic purpose is to
receive incoming information, and, based upon that information, send a signal to other neurons,
muscles, or glands. A disease that affects the nervous systemand neurons is Parkinson s Disease.
Parkinson s Disease affects a person s muscular coordination and is caused by the death of cells in
one of the movement control centers of the brain.
The nervous system coordinates behavior and helps maintain the internal stability of animals
(World of Health). The brain is one part of the nervous system. It is divided into three parts: the

They receive information and send signals to other neurons, muscles, or glands by using electrical
signals called nerve impulses. When a nerve impulse reaches the end of a neuron, it triggers the
release of a chemical, or neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter travels rapidly across the short gap
between cells (synapse) and acts to signal the adjacent cell. First, the neuron receives information
from the external environment, or from other neurons. Then, it integrates, or processes, the
information from all of its inputs and determines whether or not to send an output signal. Next, it
sends the signal along its length at full speed. The distance may be up to several meters (a giraffe
or whale, for instance) with rates up to 328 feet per second. Finally, the neuron converts the
electrical signal to a chemical one and transmits it to another neuron or an effecter, such as a
muscle or gland. Neurons have many different shapes and sizes. However, a typical neuron in a
vertebrate (such as a human) consists of four major regions: a cell body, dendrites, and axon, and
synaptic terminals (Biology). A single neuron can have up to 10,000 dendrites connecting to other

An Hour Imagery
Kate Chopin in, The Story of an Hour, uses imagery to create symbolism, enhance the irony, and to
convey the conflict. Chopin has a way of creating these ideas in your head through the words she
uses in her stories. The Story of an Hour, bases it s main theme on Freedom and Confinement,
which shows in many ways like, for example, the delicious breath of rain, which symbolizes
refreshment and new beginnings within the story. By Enhancing the irony of the denouement
/protagonist s situation, it creates a vast amount of imagery within, The Story of an Hour. Moreover,
josephine worries that Mrs. Mallard locked herself in her room and is making herself ill.
Conversely, she s actually in there seeing how life is now, from her perspective,... Show more

Consequently, many refer to Chopin s stories as having a unique approach to worldwide issues
and concerns. Chopin doesn t want to change the world; all she wants is to describe it as best
she could through her pieces of literature. The goal is to expose the truth about the lives of many
women and men in the nineteenth century and how challenging it really is. There is an infinite
amount of literary devices, including imagery, to show the reality of society s situation back in
the 18th century within the story. In, The Story of an Hour, her main idea/theme is the pure
formality of Freedom and Confinement for women through marriage. Within creating imagery,
there is robust continuously throughout the story itself. Accordingly, she gives the reader a
sense of Mrs. Mallard s new life through the view of an open window. Nevertheless, she wants
her audience to experience what Mrs.Mallard was so that the readers will fully understand the
severity of women s situations then and now who have to go through the pain that Mrs.Mallard
did every single day. Bob Marley once said that, Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are
usually sad, but it s everything in between that makes it all worth living, and in Mrs.Mallard s
case, that reigns true. The emotions she feels when she liberates from her tight chains of marriage
became the reason she wants to live and to keep moving forward. That feeling makes her life
worth living again, but then disaster strikes and that feeling vanishes along with her living,
breathing self. Mrs.Mallard didn t die of joy that kills, she dies of the darkness of her past,
consuming every last breath she takes, and then... she s

The Science behind War
The science behind War As we all know war has been amongst us since time ever began. It has
been around when the first creatures were developed and learned how to survive. And as humans
evolved over the centuries, we came to realize this theory we call war is actually a natural thing.
And we then classified it as violenceor as the survival of the fittest. And now in modern thinking
and technology, we are now able to find how the human mind came up with an idea such as
violence. How humans first used violence for survival then it turned into strategies then from there
came with the inventions of weapons. Firstly what is violence that causes things as war? Violence
comes in the amydola, a part in the brain that deals with emotions. It is what gives you the urge
to do something in that quarter of a second between the event and the response. This at the same
time causes increases blood flow to the frontal lobe, that part of the brain is over the left eye, this
area controls reasoning. The blood flow and reasoning balance each other out, this is what makes
you think twice before throwing something or hurting somebody. Our brains when angered
quickly translates complex information into simple right or wrong terms. Evolution is the key to
violence and war. The first recorded war occurred in 2700 B.C. it was between Sumer (modern
Iran) and Elam (also Iran) fought in an area around Basra (Iran Iraq). There have been fighting for
thousands of years before that, it

Joker Antisocial Personality Disorder
Through these symptoms described, the Joker appears to have an Antisocial Personality Disorder
along with schizophrenia. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual states that the criteria for APD
are exhibiting at least 3 of the following traits: an inability to follow the social normality s, when
it comes to the law especially if said acts lean toward reasons for arrest. When being deceitful i.e.;
lying, conning others, using a name rather than your own. Another trait is to be impulsive (Tang,
Jiang, Liao, Wang, Luo, 2013). The Jokertends to be impulsive when he does large scale jobs. For
example, in The Dark Knight he blew up the hospital without any sort of real escape plan, he
knew he d escape but he didn t have any sort of real plan. Aggressiveness... Show more content on

The Joker has no care whether or not he committed a crime, in fact that s his literal motif. He only
cares about what he does, not who or what it affects. APD is diagnosed to those who contravene the
rights of others without feeling bad or guilty. (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Those with
Antisocial Personality Disorder are likely to be persistent criminals and take part in actions which
would be grounds for criminal arrest and hurt others in ways that are often considered unethical
as well as in violation of societies normalcy s. Those with APD are often considered to be
antisocial. The term antisocial is often confused to mean not with society as dictated by slang.
Most of the public confuses the term antisocial by pairing it with the meaning to be alone with
one s self and away from others. The actual, correct usage of the word antisocial is to be literally
against society; against the everyday rules that most people follow in order to be part of a society.
While the intelligence of antisocial people is obviously well appropriated, they tend to have the
ability to quickly analyze others and in doing so can realize what they desire and use that
knowledge to manipulate said person.

Barring Greenback, Long Kiwi Dollar Against Major Peers
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD), also known as the Kiwi, was one of the best performers last year.
As show in the chart below, the currency gained 20.48% and 13.60%, respectively, against the
Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Australian Dollar (AUD).
Needless to say, gaining against the US Dollar (USD) was as uncommon thought last year as it is
this year, in view of the Fed s stimulus taper and imminent interest rate hike. So barring Greenback,
below are a few arguments supporting the bullish case for Kiwi.
Faster growth
There s no denying that New Zealand s economy was nothing short of impressive last year. The
economy held out against the worst drought in decades, fiscal consolidation, a contamination scare,
a strong currency and, to top it all, a slowdown in its two most important trade partners, viz.
Australia and China. Although each of these factors posed a significant risk to growth, the resilient
economy overcame these challenges and is growing at its fastest pace since 2009.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) sees gross domestic product expanding by 3.3% in
the fiscal year that ended March 31, faster than its December projection of 2.7%. The economy is
then expected to expand 3.2% in the year through March 2015.
The growth has been primarily driven by recovery in various important industries of New Zealand.
The farm production surged on drought recovery, while the nation also benefitted from major
building and infrastructure projects following the 2011 Christchurch

and although it may hurt us, it is the right thing to do. I still remember the day that I had to
lower his body down in to that 6 foot deep hole; somehow, I feel as if he is still here, right beside
me. Oh how I wish he was here, siting right beside me while I drink my nightly glass of red wine.

My mother has always been a kind soul and loved Brock as much as me, so she said Son, I am sure
you re hurt, but you are only seeing things. Let him go.
I talked to them for over an hour explaining my situation, but they did not want to hear about Brock
anymore. Eventually, I gave up and went to my room to sleep until it was the early morning.
August 11 3:33 A.M. I am very excited because I know I will see Brock soon, but there is no
sign of him yet. Everybody knows I loved him dearly, and life without him has not felt the same.
All of a sudden, I saw two bright green eyes jump out of the garden and there he was in all his
glory frolicking around. Just the sight of him made my heart happy and my life feel complete. I
have not been happy in this life without him, and I wish there was a way I could join him. Perhaps!
I will bury myself in his grave and we will be together again. I leave behind two great parents, but I
would rather be with Brock than anyone else. I laid in his grave and took my knife. Now, I do not
know where I will be going, but it is time for me to join him.

Digital Music And Its Effects On The Music Industry
In July 2011, Spotify launched in the United States. This program not only had the ability to
stream music for its listeners, but it was also free. As long as the artists were featured on this
program, users could listen to any of their songs at any time. At first, this was only restricted to
desktop computer usage, but since then Spotify has launched its app available for mobile devices,
further stretching this power of free and instant media at any time. Although this may sound great
to users like you and me, the people who ultimately suffer are the artists that put there music out
there on Spotify. By allowing us to listen to their music for free, the profits from CD s and iTunes
digital music sales have begun to decrease. This means that artists who have their media on Spotify
overall do not make the profit that they normally should. Since Spotify is a relatively new addition
to the music industry, I will be focusing on the effects it is having on sales regarding teenagers
since they are the highest population that currently uses Spotify because of it s appearance in their
generation.
According to a paper by Abhijit Sen, a renowned professor with a Ph.D in Economics from the
University of Cambridge, titled Music in the Digital Age: Musicians and Fans Around the World

Essay about The Dredd Scott Case
The Dredd Scott Case
The Dredd Scott case involved a landmark decision in the history of the Supreme Court, in the
history of the United States the decision in this case was one of the most damaging statements in
the history of the Supreme Court, involving the citizenship of a black person in the United States,
and the constitutionality of the Missouri Compromise in 1820. The history of a black man named
Dredd Scott states that he was a slave originally owed by a family by the name of Blow, which

the case. Taney first dealt with the issues of whether Dredd Scott or any slave or descendant of
slaves could be a slave s could be a citizen under the US constitution. It was Taney s opinion as the !
majority of the court that: they (slaves) are not, and that they are not included, and were not
intended to be included, under the word citizen in the US constitution, and can, therefore, claim
none of the rights and privileges which that instrument provides for and secures to citizens of the

Taney drew this conclusion from an examination of historical practices and the intent of the
Framers of the Constitution. Slaves, he said, had more than a century before the Constitution came

  • 2. Mary Wollstonecraft Metaphors ~ The utilization of metaphors and similes throughout Mary Wollstonecraft s piece conveys the argument that she poses to society. The added effect of the powerful metaphors incorporated into her writing is evidently necessary in order to illuminate her main viewpoints. Mary Wollstonecraft compares the way women act to mere animals and the way such children should be expected to act . The comparison between mere animals and women depicts how society has stripped away women s dignity by poorly educating them. She further explains that women are portrayed as acting like children and are not able to act like stable adults in their relationships. Mary Wollstonecraft adds on to her argument by comparing the way women were viewed as insignificant objects of desire by their male counterparts. At the time, society crafted women into physical entities for men that would provide pleasures for them at any time they wished. Without the proper education, women could do little to prove themselves to be worth more than just objects. The metaphor that Wollstonecraft utilized was key in advocating for the education of women as it represented how they were defenseless and only seen to be slaves in the eyes of men. She comparison is vital to the piece as she is stating how women were seen in her time and how there needed to be reform in order to improve their stance in society. Moreover, she illuminates that once women short lived bloom of beauty is over, they will be useless in their relationships. She compares the minimal importance of beauty in a relationship of that of a flower. Beauty only gets women so far in a relationship, and education will improve women s roles in the relationship. She presents the metaphor to as a persuasive argument that may appeal to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Karen Dill, author of Violent rap lyrics make listeners more accepting of violence , states: Radio personality Don Imus referred to a college women s basketball team as nappy headed ho s . Rap music has made their own image of what women are in their eyes and this has caused others to treat females a certain way. Women have always been portrayed as weak, feisty, helpless, property, and more. Females start to believe this about themselves having low self esteem, not wanting to be in relationships, and thinking they aren t good enough. In reality, they might not feel that way, but that s how they are talked about in music so they believe they need to be that way. According to the author of The public should criticize violent music lyrics, women are objectified, often in the most obscene and degrading ways (Brownback). George Orwells beliefs impacted his business life and personal life alike. George Orwell lived a semi comfortable childhood with his mother and sister in England. Although Blair was offered a scholarship to a university, his funds had substantially decreased and could not cover college tuition. Instead, he decided to follow in his father s footsteps and serve in the Indian Imperial Force, where Blair formed opinions on Britain s widely controversial imperialism actions. He served from 1922 1927 in Burma. While on leave in England in 1927, Blair decided to pursue his adolescent dream, a career in writing, and resigned from the force. In the article we also learn that he has two sons. His older son is eighteen and his younger son is sixteen. What that tells us about him is that although he drinks, he was still able to build a family. He has mastered alcohol indeed. Alternative promoters and splicing produce tissue specific isoforms of dystrophin, including the full length Dp427 in skeletal and cardiac muscles, Dp260 in retina, Dp140 in brainand kidney, Dp116 in peripheral nerves, and ubiquitous Dp71 (Muntoni et al., 2003). Although predominant in skeletal and cardiac muscles, Dp427 also expresses in testes (t Hoen et al., 2008). Dystrophin is a rod shaped cytoskeletal protein linking extracellular laminin and intracellular F actin in muscles to mediate force transmission as well as signaling transduction (Brenman et al., 1995; Ervasti and Campbell, 1993; Koenig et al., 1988). • 10. Amd Remediation At Shoup s Run Watershed AMD Remediation at Shoup s Run Watershed Alanna O Neil Introduction: The main pollutant of surface water in the mid Atlantic region is Acid Mine Drainage, AMD, also called Abandoned Mine Drainage. AMD is a nonpoint source pollution that has degraded more than 4,500 stream miles, in just the mid Atlantic region, due to the drainage of metal rich water from mining activities (Jacobs). The runoff is extremely acidic due to the exposure of pyrite containing rocks, a sulfur bearing mineral (FeS2), during mining activities, and the chemical reactions associated with the contact of air and water with such rocks. As a result of such chemical reactions, sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is produced. Several chemical reactions take place and are as follows: 1.2FeS2(s) + 7O2 (g) +2H2O(l) в†’ 2Fe2+(aq) + 4SO4 2(aq) + 4H+(aq) 2.4Fe2+(aq) + O2 (g) + 4H+(aq) в†’ 4Fe3+(aq) + 2H2O(l) 3.4Fe3+(aq) + 12H2O(l) в†’ 4Fe(OH)3 (s) + 12H+(aq) The 3 reactions combine to be: 4FeS2(s) + 15O2 (g) +14H2O(l) в†’ 4Fe(OH)3 (s) + 8SO4 2(aq) + 16H+(aq) The first reaction involves pyrite rock reacting with oxygen (air) and water to produce dissolved ferrous iron, sulfate, and acidity. The second reaction oxidizes the dissolved ferrous iron in acidic conditions and produces ferric iron and water. The third reaction involves the hydrolysis of the ferric iron to form ferric hydroxide and more acid. The ferric hydroxide is the orangey red colored solid you see in the water (Juniata College). Through agriculture, Ohio farmers have rooted a connection throughout the globe in feeding and supplying resources needed in life each day. Since the 1800 s native Ohioans have relied on agriculture not only for a source of nourishment but as a means of making a living. Ohio s original settlers, the Native Americans, supported themselves through farming. The Indians grew corn, beans, squash, pumpkins, multi colored Indian corn, numerous varieties of beans, including kidney beans, navy and pea beans, pinto beans, great northern marrow beans, and yellow eye beans. Ohio Indians grew many other vegetables, including turnips, cabbage, parsnips, sweet potatoes, yams, and onions and leeks (Agricultureand Farming in Ohio). The Europeans introduced the watermelon and muskmelon into North America in the seventeenth century, and Indians in the interior were growing these fruits within a few years (Agriculture and Farming in Ohio). Today, there are more than seven billion people roaming earth and each and everyone, have since the beginning of time shared one thing in common; a need for food and nutrition for survival. They broke off from the Roman Catholic Church, for they had separate beliefs and felt mistreated. Their beliefs included many of the same ideals of a catholic, but they took those ideals to an extreme. They believed that sinning had something to do with the devil controlling the human body. The Puritans strongly believed that lying to others was an ultimate sin, and they were to only tell the truth. Moreover, God didn t appreciate his followers to lie. In the Crucible, Elizabeth was in the wrong for lying about his lechery, because lying is against her religion, and once John confessed, there wasn t much Elizabeth could ve done for John except tell the truth. She was also known to be a truthful person, so she shouldn t have lied and sticked with what she knew, consciously, was right. Again, lying to the court about lechery was the wrong decision; furthermore, Elizabeth went against her religion, and made John seem like a liar. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with and without different masses on it. Procedure Description of setup We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Р¤ looking button to zero. Outline of technique It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. Various other massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adoption gets helpless children out of the foster care system, but having their own child gives them a better connection. Three reasons why parents should adopt is because it helps get kids out of foster care, adopted families have all the same rights as families formed from birth, and adopting a child helps parents start a family if they can t get pregnant. Although some people think that having their own child is better, adoption is better because it gives children new and permanent homes, also it helps parents start a family. Furthermore, adoption is a way for children who cannot be cared for by their birth parents to become members of another family. There are two different types of adoption, Domestic and International adoption. Domestic adoption is when a child is born in a country and adopted in the same country. International adoption is when a child living in one country is adopted by a family living in a different country. Through adoption, children s legal ties with their birth parents are needed so they can begin a relationship approved by law with their adoptive parents. Taking a Look at Regular Warfare As noted in the Small Wars Manual (SWM), Regular war never takes exactly the form of any of its predecessors, so, even to a greater degree is each small war somewhat different from anything that preceded it. The SMW was originally published in 1935 and written as a response to a call for doctrine after the Philippine War and numerous small wars in Central and South America, the banana wars. Military leadership recognized the importance of irregular warfareand unfortunately due to World War II, switched their focus towards regular warfare. However, some would argue that WWII ended with a tone of irregular warfare due to the development and use of the atomic bomb. It was outside the paradigm of Napoleonic styled warfare with massive unit formations facing each other on the plains of battle. Since a vast majority of wars over the last 100 years have been fought using the irregular warfare construct it would be extremely important for the US military to train and equip a sizable piece of the force to focus on fighting an irregular war. However, this does not negate the need to train and equip forces to fight a regular war. Our strategic policy should be to fully incorporate irregular warfare into our defense industrial complex to provide for the greatest coverage of war contingencies. Neither type of war should take priority over the other. In fact, each is dependent on each other. We need the ships, planes, and tactical logistics equipment to provide irregular warfighters ... Powell (2004) stressed the need for supportive environments and the need to allow adolescents to develop their own unique identities. In fact, according to Amber Jenkins, site editor for Global Warming: Vital Signs of the Planet, meteorologists at NASA (National Aeronautics Space Administration) have reported that Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, and possibly even the last 2,000 years. Studies indicate that the average global temperature has increased by approximately 0.5 1.0В°F (0.3 0.6В°C) over the last century (Jenkins). However, CEI scientists have reported that there is no proof that rising temperatures are linked to global warming. The Earth has gone through various periods of cooling and warming throughout its history. The rising temperatures are simply the Earth warming itself up from the previous ice age (Competitive Enterprise Institute). Contrasting with the virtual world of computer simulations, the real world presents a very different picture. The Selective Service System is an independent agency of the United States, which gives the President the right or power to conscript men for military service. There have been different Acts passed by congress since 1917 that require men of various ages to register for service. Although, the name of each Act and the age requirements of the registries changed, the Acts were all similar in nature. They all gave the President the right to call men to war when he deemed necessary. Since the conscription ended in 1973, the number of members has grown considerably over the years. Men and women alike enlist for many different reasons; from educational purposes, for the adventure, and/or other benefits the military has to offer. Many enlist just because they want to defend and serve the country they live in and no other reason. However, all that do enlist want to be there doing what they are doing, not because someone told them they have to. The armed forces haven t had any problems recruiting, and are recruiting more than their goal. According to the Department of Defense, they are recruiting anywhere from 100 to 105% of their goal each year. Which leads to another reason we should not reinstate the draft, the draft is not needed because the all volunteer forces have been successful in serving our country for over 40 years through both war and peace. Melvin Laird, Secretary of Defense (1969 1973), stated in his article in the Washington Post this past February that our volunteer forces have surpassed expectations and they have been successful by every measure (Wahingtonpost.com). • 37. The Management System Of An Organization Introduction In recent years, a lot of organizations have emphasized more on efficiency and effectiveness due to higher rate of competition in the industry. This shift in focus is meant to allow organization to deliver the best in class product and service by improving the key performance metrics (Institute for Operation Excellence, 2012). Operation excellence focuses on the entire area of an organization. The area of focus can be broken down into 3, behavior, management system, and process. For any change to be sustainable, the people s behavior has to be such that can support it. People s behavior and mindset has to change, everybody has to contribute regardless of what level of organization. The management system piece is also a key because of the impact of management support that is needed to promote operation excellence within an organization. Process is where it directly impacts the product. It has to be improved to meet a best in class standard, either by line balancing, implementing a lean flow, or by other form of improvement (Duggan, 2011). Every employee involved should be able to see the value flow from the organization to the customer and vice versa. Some industries struggle in their implementation of operation excellence. For a successful implementation, there has to be a right definition, one that every employee at every level of the organization understand what it means and how their role impacts it. Some say that great coded laws and reforms make for the most successful empire. Some may say that a great government defines success. But the Byzantine Empire under Justinian Rule showed us that in order to achieve the most success, all of these factors were needed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first reason why Justinian caused the Byzantine empire to succeed during his reign was because of his new coded system of laws. Justinian inherited a vast amount of Roman laws, called the twelve tables. (Allen Evans 24, Commire). In 528, Justinian set up a commission to codify the Roman law (Ostrogorski 74). 1528 books of Roman law were scanned and combined into fifty books divided into 432 chapters (Allen Evans 24). The work was called the Digest, and had immediate impacts on the Byzantine Empire and then it s long success (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Lawyers were able reference the laws in court, allowing fairer decisions to be made. The government, now was not only supported by its army, was also supported by the law (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Both of these things were very important to the success of the empire. Civilians had the ability to go to court and make sure that decisions were based on hundreds of years of law written out in one place, and not an impulsive decision of a judge. The government also had an extreme benefit in terms of having written out code of law, so there could be no arguments in terms of taxation or punishments. This attributed to the success of the empire because this helped stabilize the empire because important decisions could have been made based on hundreds of years of law and farer decisions prevented revolts. This device, named Triton, did not actually work but served to suggest that compressed air could be used in diving, an idea initially conceived of by Halley in 1716. (Ketels, 9) In 1865, two French inventors, Rouquayrol and Denayrouse, developed a suit that they described as self contained. In fact, their suit was not self contained but consisted of a helmet using surface supported system that had an air reservoir that was carried on the diver s back and was sufficient to provide one breathing cycle on demand. When a nerve impulse reaches the end of a neuron, it triggers the release of a chemical, or neurotransmitter. First, the neuron receives information from the external environment, or from other neurons. Then, it integrates, or processes, the information from all of its inputs and determines whether or not to send an output signal. Next, it sends the signal along its length at full speed. The distance may be up to several meters (a giraffe or whale, for instance) with rates up to 328 feet per second. It has been around when the first creatures were developed and learned how to survive. And as humans evolved over the centuries, we came to realize this theory we call war is actually a natural thing. And we then classified it as violenceor as the survival of the fittest. And now in modern thinking and technology, we are now able to find how the human mind came up with an idea such as violence. How humans first used violence for survival then it turned into strategies then from there came with the inventions of weapons. Firstly what is violence that causes things as war? Violence comes in the amydola, a part in the brain that deals with emotions. It is what gives you the urge to do something in that quarter of a second between the event and the response. Those with APD are often considered to be antisocial. The term antisocial is often confused to mean not with society as dictated by slang. Most of the public confuses the term antisocial by pairing it with the meaning to be alone with one s self and away from others. The actual, correct usage of the word antisocial is to be literally against society; against the everyday rules that most people follow in order to be part of a society. While the intelligence of antisocial people is obviously well appropriated, they tend to have the ability to quickly analyze others and in doing so can realize what they desire and use that knowledge to manipulate said person. ... • 55. Barring Greenback, Long Kiwi Dollar Against Major Peers The New Zealand Dollar (NZD), also known as the Kiwi, was one of the best performers last year. As show in the chart below, the currency gained 20.48% and 13.60%, respectively, against the Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Australian Dollar (AUD). Needless to say, gaining against the US Dollar (USD) was as uncommon thought last year as it is this year, in view of the Fed s stimulus taper and imminent interest rate hike. So barring Greenback, below are a few arguments supporting the bullish case for Kiwi. Faster growth There s no denying that New Zealand s economy was nothing short of impressive last year. The economy held out against the worst drought in decades, fiscal consolidation, a contamination scare, a strong currency and, to top it all, a slowdown in its two most important trade partners, viz. Australia and China. Although each of these factors posed a significant risk to growth, the resilient economy overcame these challenges and is growing at its fastest pace since 2009. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) sees gross domestic product expanding by 3.3% in the fiscal year that ended March 31, faster than its December projection of 2.7%. The economy is then expected to expand 3.2% in the year through March 2015. The growth has been primarily driven by recovery in various important industries of New Zealand. The farm production surged on drought recovery, while the nation also benefitted from major building and infrastructure projects following the 2011 Christchurch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Midnight Journal Entry Jeffrey Hinkle Professor Ramirez English 303B 20 July 2016 Brock July 31 Midnight It is always hard to bury your best friend, which is why I have begun this journal entry. The year is 2016; my best friend of 10 years is gone, and my depression has overtaken me. Unfortunately, we have to make hard choices about letting go of a close friend, and although it may hurt us, it is the right thing to do. I still remember the day that I had to lower his body down in to that 6 foot deep hole; somehow, I feel as if he is still here, right beside me. Oh how I wish he was here, siting right beside me while I drink my nightly glass of red wine. It has now been two weeks since he has been gone, and I have had little rest, but I have slept more than usual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your dog is not coming back, so stop making up these stories. You re only going to make it worse on yourself. My mother has always been a kind soul and loved Brock as much as me, so she said Son, I am sure you re hurt, but you are only seeing things. Let him go. I talked to them for over an hour explaining my situation, but they did not want to hear about Brock anymore. Eventually, I gave up and went to my room to sleep until it was the early morning. August 11 3:33 A.M. I am very excited because I know I will see Brock soon, but there is no sign of him yet. Everybody knows I loved him dearly, and life without him has not felt the same. All of a sudden, I saw two bright green eyes jump out of the garden and there he was in all his glory frolicking around. Just the sight of him made my heart happy and my life feel complete. I have not been happy in this life without him, and I wish there was a way I could join him. Perhaps! I will bury myself in his grave and we will be together again. I leave behind two great parents, but I would rather be with Brock than anyone else. I laid in his grave and took my knife. Now, I do not know where I will be going, but it is time for me to join him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Digital Music And Its Effects On The Music Industry In July 2011, Spotify launched in the United States. This program not only had the ability to stream music for its listeners, but it was also free. As long as the artists were featured on this program, users could listen to any of their songs at any time. At first, this was only restricted to desktop computer usage, but since then Spotify has launched its app available for mobile devices, further stretching this power of free and instant media at any time. Although this may sound great to users like you and me, the people who ultimately suffer are the artists that put there music out there on Spotify. By allowing us to listen to their music for free, the profits from CD s and iTunes digital music sales have begun to decrease. This means that artists who have their media on Spotify overall do not make the profit that they normally should. Since Spotify is a relatively new addition to the music industry, I will be focusing on the effects it is having on sales regarding teenagers since they are the highest population that currently uses Spotify because of it s appearance in their generation. According to a paper by Abhijit Sen, a renowned professor with a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Cambridge, titled Music in the Digital Age: Musicians and Fans Around the World Come Together on the Net, statistics show that the music industry and the major record labels are in a slow slump (Sen 8). Ever since Apple created iTunes, the number of CD purchases have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Essay about The Dredd Scott Case The Dredd Scott Case The Dredd Scott case involved a landmark decision in the history of the Supreme Court, in the history of the United States the decision in this case was one of the most damaging statements in the history of the Supreme Court, involving the citizenship of a black person in the United States, and the constitutionality of the Missouri Compromise in 1820. The history of a black man named Dredd Scott states that he was a slave originally owed by a family by the name of Blow, which ended up selling him in 1833 to an army surgeon by the name of Dr. John Emerson of St. Luis. Due to his involvement as an army surgeon, Emerson was transferred to numerous places such as Rock Island, Illinois, Fort Snelling in the Wisconsin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now it was not so much the court s decision that was so damaging, but the series of opinions that Roger Taney, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and how we look at it. The court had announced its decision on March 6, 1857. By a 7 2 vote, the court ruled against Scott. Of the seven opinions written by the members of the majority, Chief Justice Taney s is considered to present the forma; view of the Court, and I think that these are the most damaging statements in the case. Taney first dealt with the issues of whether Dredd Scott or any slave or descendant of slaves could be a slave s could be a citizen under the US constitution. It was Taney s opinion as the ! majority of the court that: they (slaves) are not, and that they are not included, and were not intended to be included, under the word citizen in the US constitution, and can, therefore, claim none of the rights and privileges which that instrument provides for and secures to citizens of the United States. Taney drew this conclusion from an examination of historical practices and the intent of the Framers of the Constitution. Slaves, he said, had more than a century before the Constitution came into existence been regarded as being of an inferior order, and all together unfit to associate with the white race, in social or political relations; and so far inferior that they had no ...
