Red Blood Cell Is An Essential Treatment For Patients With...
Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusion is an essential treatment for patients with the Sickle Cell Disease
(SCD). Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in
antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do
not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the
representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization.
To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe)
and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC
phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered
by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually
transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant
antigens.
10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood
group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on
RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive
to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. RBC antigen phenotypes determined
by single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was compared with serologic testing for 13 routinely
tested RBC antigens. The frequency of

The Disorder Of Down Syndrome
Have you ever wonder or questioned the disorder of down syndrome? According to many National
Down Syndrome Society within the United States, Down syndrome has occurred one out of eight
hundred births. It is the most frequent form of mental retardation and characterized by well
defined events and distinctive features. It s a lifelong disorder caused by a genetic defeat that s
none curable. It takes people with patients and kind hearts to care for people with Down syndrome
disorder.

of a person with Down syndrome. In 1866 his scholarly work was published that gave him the
name father of Down syndrome. Where in 1959 the French ... Show more content on

Its termed trisomy 21 due to the fact it s not an entire extra chromosome 21 that is responsible but
rather a small segment of the long arm of this chromosome. Only two other triomies occurs with
any significant frequency: trisomy 13 (Patau s syndrome) and trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome).
Trisomy 21 is one of the most common human chromosomal aberrations occurring in about 0.5
percent of all conceptions and in one out of every seven hundred to eight hundred live birth.
Description
When the sperm cells from the father and the egg cells from the mother are formed, they both
undergo a reduction of their total number of chromosome from forty six to twenty three. This
process is called meiosis (which contain one half of the chromosome number found in the
original cell before division) when a baby is conceived by the combination of one sperm cell with
one egg cell, the baby receives twenty three chromosomes from each parent for a total of forty six
chromosomes. Occasionally, an error occurs in the reduction process instead of passing on twenty
three

What Makes A True Friend, By Alex Lickerman M. D.
In the article What Makes A True Friend the author Alex Lickerman M.D discusses about qualities
a true friend should have. At first he refers to the term Kenzoku in the word Japanese which means
Family. He explains that many of us may have a true friend that can mean more like family to us.
He also shares some characteristics of what a true friend should always have. Those characteristics
are Common interest, History, Common values, Equality, a commitment to your happiness, not
asking you to place the friendshipbefore your principles, and a good influence. However, these
characteristics that Alex stated are very true and helpful but I would like to share three of my own
definition of the qualities of a true friend which are loyalty, trustworthy and someone who s
supportive.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I really think loyalty is very important because without it there will be no point of you having a
true friend. It will most likely cause problems in a friendship with that person, nowadays loyalty is
hard to find in a friend because people never know when they are being fake and lying to you,
But loyalty really consist of a loyal friend who is willing to share private secrets with each other
and not tell anyone about it afterwards. Like for example, my true loyal friend is my mother
because she s always the person I always go to whenever I have to talk about something important
and she doesn t tell anyone after I share those secrets with her. Finally, a person who stays by your
side when something bad happens is what you call a true loyal

Leadership Theories Of Leadership And Leadership
Introduction
The purpose of this essay is to identify and analyze two leadership theories in regards to how they
contribute to helping leaders, lead and compare and distinguish the difference. This essay will

transformational theory. This two theories are well known in the filed of leadership. This essay will
illustrate leaders who acquire these two main theories and how they used it effectively to achieve

Charismatic theory can help leaders be more assertive; its behavioral quality is easier to acquire
and develop easily. The way charismatic theory can help leaders lead is having charm which is
the foundation of the theory, it s Appeal is valuable for rousing others, driving a group, or
showing and creating individuals, or being a trend setter or a trust raiser. Charismatic leaders
are prone to show up when the social circumstance makes individuals feel troubled. (Jacobsen
House, 2001, p. xx) This shows that charismatic leaders are adjustable towards being a leader in
the workplace or a social aspect being very flexible. The Charming aspect of the this theory can
have constructive outcomes on individual results (e.g., inspiration and self regard, eagerness to
go past desires and participate in organizational work (Campbell, Ward, Sonnenfeld, Agle, 2008,
p. 556 568). This theory can help leaders be more approachable and create an environment where
both leaders and followers succeed in the work place or the social side.
A transformational leader treasures the feelings and respect, the loyalty among their followers and
workers and emphasizes the significance of commitment with projects and group work. (Veiseh,
Esfandyar, Mohsen, Vahid, 2014, p. 113 124). Transformational leaders have a kind of initiative
style that can motivate positive changes in the individuals who take after.

The Vietnamese Of The Vietnam
Situated on the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is the eastern most country
bordered by China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the Gulf of Tonkin and the South
China Sea to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. Prior to the conquest of Indochina by
the French, Vietnam was ruled by the Chinese for more than eight centuries. However, after several
years of resistance the Vietnamese overthrew the Chinese kingdom in their country and thus
became independent. In spite of gaining freedom, the Vietnamese rulers continued to uphold the
Chinese system of governance, policy making and also its culture. In fact, most of the Vietnamese
were largely influenced by the Chinese culture and religion, mainly Taoism, Buddhism and
Confucianism.
The French troops entered the land of Vietnam in the year 1858 and by the mid 1880s they had
established a firm grip over the northern region. After the defeat of China in the Franco Chinese war
(1884 85), the French assumed complete supremacy over the central Vietnam
(Annam), the northern Vietnam (Tonkin), the southern Vietnam (Cochinchina) along with Laos
and Cambodia, which they collectively called French Indo china that was formed in the year 1887.
However, France gained control over the southern Vietnam only after it had signed a peace treaty,
the Treaty of Saigon on July 5th, 1862.
The real motive behind the French colonization was profit, economic exploitation and political
supremacy. The demand for

Examples Of Nancy Mairs Cripple
In this passage, Nancy Mairs presents herself as being cripple. She gave herself that name many
years ago without any motive to do so. Nancy Mairs wants people to see herself as a fate or god.
Mairs uses medium simple sentences, tone, and diction to present why she calls herself cripple
instead of disabled or handicap. Nancy Mairs elaborates on herself at the start of this passage by
stating I am a cripple. This starts the structure of her simple sentences, which has readers
understanding where she comes from. Nancy Mairs tone is positive for her to be crippled. As a
cripple Mairs wants people to see her as a tough customer, hence the fact people wince when
cripple is mentioned. Although, Nancy Mairs is proud to call herself

Modeled Reading Through Shared Reading
Modeled reading is often explained as the process of reading aloud, such as a teacher reading
aloud to students or students reading aloud to each other (Sipe, 2002). However, the modelling
process of the balanced literacy philosophy should be more than simply a teacher reading aloud to
students or students readingaloud to each other as a class. Instead, modelling should involve
teachers demonstrating the action of engaging with a text. For example, a teacher might engage in
modelling by showing students the cover to a book and explaining how he or she can predictions
about the content of the book from the cover, or readingthe table of contents to gain some
understanding of the information to be presented (Duke Pearson, 2002). Shared reading is the
process of teachers and students engaging in shared reading activities as a way of teachers
beginning to give students more independence and responsibility in reading instruction (Wall,
2014). For example, once a teacher has modeled making predictions from the cover or table or
contents of a book, he or she might ask students to make predictions about the content of a book or

Figure 2 shows that during modeled reading, the teacher has almost all of the control over the
reading process, but then gives some responsibility to students as he or she asks the students to
engage in the same behaviors that are being modeled as part of shared reading. During guided
reading, the teacher gives more responsibility to the students when they are asked to engage in
finding words in texts and creating meaning from those texts. Finally, almost all responsibility is
given to the students as they read on their

Compare And Contrast Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai and Claudette Colvin both grew up in very painful conditions. Although their
endings were very different, they both became better because of them. They also show us that the
best way to respond to conflict is to not back down even in extreme situations. These real people
showed us how they didn t back down and, eventually, with hard work and courage, they made the
world a better place.
Malala Yousafzai s story starts when she was around eleven years old. Education for girls and
women was always discouraged, but now the people of Pakistan were being punished for going to
school. Malala refused to back down and stop going to school, even though her entire community
was being terrorized. She started writing and speaking out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Psychologist s overview of what Malala can teach people about mental health, moral principles,

there was a Nobel Prize for Psychological Health, Malala Yousafzai would have won it too.
Indeed, Malala is a living testament to the incredible power of emotional resilience. He also
states that Malala has reframed the assassination attempt in her mind so she does not feel
helpless and victimized but rather purposeful and empowered. If they come to kill me I will tell
them what they are trying to do is wrong, that education is our basic right. Having purpose can
help people recover from trauma and become stronger psychologically than they were before, a
phenomenon known as post traumatic growth. Malala is an amazing example of someone who
has thrived after trauma, primarily because of the purpose and mission to which she has devoted
her life. All of this traumas helped to shape Malala into the person she is, and she won the Nobel

Yale Case
1. How has the Investment Office selected, compensated, and controlled private equity fund
managers? What explains the differences between their strategy in private equity with that in other
asset classes (e.g., real estate)?
As for private equity asset allocation the Investment Office focused on finding external value added
investors with the sterling capability to build better businesses not only financially but mainly
operationally. They believed this strategy led to enhancing returns independently of the market
downturns. Thus, a limited number of long standing partnerships were created exclusively with
partners aligned with the generalized investment policies of the Investment Office with over 90%
of the portfolio invested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, contrarian to other endowments, Yale changed the composition of its private equity
investments during the 90s. The Investment Office dampened the weight of venture capital funds in
its portfolio (46% in 1990 against 25% in 2006) as a result of lack of high quality venture capital
funds.
More recently, the overall weight of private equity in the Investment Office portfolio has been
decreasing (from a target of 25% against the most recent number of 17%) as a consequence of
Yale perceiving lack of specialization of several equity funds ( positioning themselves as asset
managers ) and because of the indiscipline and inexperience of several new market players.
Albeit, Yale has not dismissed this asset class due to the historical success, the strong relationships
developed with key managers, its know how and experience on the private equity process and not
to be perceived as a market timer type of investor.
As mentioned before, the investment office portfolio is constituted by 4 main categories of assets:
marketable securities, private equity (both domestic and international), real assets and absolute
return strategies.
Bonds constituted a very small part of Yale s portfolio (around 4%) since Swensen didn t consider
it to have a fair risk/return relationship. Also, he believed this type of market was so efficient that
desirable returns were very hard to achieve, much contrarian to private equity, especially across
boarders.

his peers were assassinated by people they ve known most of their life who happened to be Hutu.
The Hutu clan wanted all Tutsipeople dead. They were determined to eliminate all Tutsi
individuals. They killed hundreds of young students in his school that day. They set the school

shows that Tuhabonye feels as he isn t good enough, and although he s done all the work he still
has trouble accepting the fact that he is outstanding at what he does. When he went through the
horrible experience of being treated like he was worth absolutely nothing by the Hutus. He had
no self confidence and some of that is still with him. Tuhabonye coaches people to be the best
they can be and also motivates them, even though he needs to be motivating himself. If he
believed in himself more, he could become unstopable. Also, John Conley recounts that
Tuhabonye thinks These guys are better than me, and he puts himself in last place. (603) This
quotation shows how low his self esteem actually is, he doesn t give himself enough credit.
Tuhabonye is hard on himself because he knows nothing is easy. Coming from a third world
country he has built himself up from nothing, and he knows he has a long road ahead of him.
Everyone in his life believes he can achieve his goals except himself and thats something that he
needs to work on according to his agent. He wants to win an Olympic medal and he knows he has

Analysis Of The Umar Abdullah Johnson Theory Of Black Male...
The Umar Abdullah Johnson Theory of Black Male Alienation posits that a five stage cycle of
institutional repression exists that has effectively sent more black men to jail than it has to
college. Any attempt to reverse this war against America s most misunderstood population
begins with a firm analysis of the process and its origins in boyhood. Americans, including
Blacks, have become so desensitized to the pain of Black boys and so expectant of their failures
that their pain is often overlooked and their achievements treated like occasional glitches in a
system that has successfully made Black boys a permanent underclass in this country. But the
color of a Negro s skin makes him easily recognizable, makes him suspect, converts him into a
defenseless target (Richard Wright, Black Boy) Mis education often begins at birth. The average
first day of life for Black children is when they become subjected to self hatred and self hating
messages about themselves. They re often getting messages about themselves that is directly or
indirectly coming from the white culture. From the first day they are brought into this world, the
mis education and the self hatred towards our babies starts right then and there. It starts to
increase in preschool because in preschool, for those that decide to send their child to preschool,
this will be the first time that the Black boy comes face to face with the School guidelines of the
American social order where he is expected to preform to

The Effects of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a horrible event that took place
almost 100 years ago. It was a time in our society when people had no money and no food.
Everyone was losing their jobs because the companies couldn t afford to pay them and stay in
business at the same time. After the Stock Market crashed and the economy went downhill, a lot
of changes were made within the government to make sure that nothing like this would ever

As their lives were filled with sadness and no hope, they would soon learn that all of that was
about to change for them. As the 1932 Presidential elections were coming up, the citizens had to
choose the right person to lead them out of the Great Depression. In November of 1932, the United
States held a Presidential Election that was crucial to America. The voting was a one sided
outcome, as Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election by a landslide over his opponent Herbert
Hoover. In his acceptance speech in 1932 when he was a Democratic Party nominee for running
president, he made a promise to the citizens of America that there would be a new deal for the
American people. He was determined to keep his promise to the citizens of America, that a new
deal was coming. He would later keep that promise and would eventually change the economy for
the better. Roosevelt s New Deal Programs were based on helping the economic problems in
several different ways. The programs that he designed were to help; federal assistance for people

The key product segment in the Indian hair care market is conditioner, and the second largest
segment is shampoo. The key players in this industry are P G, Unilever, Marico and Dabur that
account for 52% of the market share (Hair Care in India, 2015).
The hair care market s growth rate in the United States is increasing with a much lower growth rate
than Indian. Another key difference is that the key product segments are different in both countries.
But the leading companies are the same in the Unites States and in India; they both have P G and
Unilever as two main players in the hair care industry.
Demand Drivers
Some of the factors that drive the industry in the Unites States are an increasing hair related
problems among consumers, new hair care products innovations and increasing demand for natural
and organic hair care products. This change has occurred because of consumers increased awareness
about the negative effects of harsh substances and chemicals.
The factors that drive the hair care industry in India are increased pollution and health issues.
Consumers become more aware about hair loss, damaged hair and other hair related issues. Also,
emerging economy, improvement in living standards and rising hygiene awareness help to drive
the growth of hair care industry because consumers are more willing to spend extra money in order
to get better products for their hair.

Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture.
Joanne Duff DT545 Vis Com 1st Year
Non linear narrative structures have deeply influenced how subjects are presented in visual culture.
The first movie I looked at was IrrГ©versible, a French movie written, directed and produced by
Gasper NoГ©. NoГ© employs a non linear narrative to force the audience to think about the actions
taken by those seeking vengeance before the reasons behind these actions are known. The movie is
told in reverse order, beginning with the main character murdering the person he believed brutally
attacked his girlfriend. The intention of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NoГ© places these scenes in the first half of the movie, to give us a different perspective on the
characters and their lives. The film ends with scenes depicting Marcus and Alex happy together,
which the viewer must watch while knowing exactly how things will end for them. We also learn
that the man Marcus and Pierre murdered in the gay club wasn t the man they were looking for,
we realise that Le Tenia was standing beside this man, and stood transfixed as he watch them
viciously beat the man they believed to be him. Alex is attacked by Le Tenia
The attack in the club and the rape scene are so cruel and graphic that they are rendered almost
unwatchable, which is how NoГ© intended them to be. The violence is unglamorised and gritty;
the rape scene is completely non sexual and uncomfortably long. The non linear narrative of
IrrГ©versible is what makes the movie interesting, if the movie story was told in a linear way it
wouldn t create the same interest in the lives of the characters. We wouldn t feel the same about
happy characters whose lives are ruined as we would about something terrible happening to the
characters and then to watch them living happily oblivious to the events that will ruin their lives.
He presents us the events in an order which makes us think about the nature of these events in a
different way.

The Expansion Of A Nation State Beyond The World
As Europe climbs into a semi peaceful time, many powers look for a way to expand their names
beyond their claimed territories. Splicing through the 1850 s and beyond European powers spread
through Africa, Australia, China, America, Japan and anywhere they could find a resource to be
exploited. Many great discoveries and advances appeared due to these colonization s and
expeditions, scientifically and historically. Imperialism is the expansion of a nation state beyond
their position, whether it be through military, political or economic powers. This idea spread
throughout Europe and sparked the expansion into many countries that neither were expecting it or
even welcomed it. The motives that fueled the spark of colonization were economic,... Show more

As countries settled in unknown places, learning about the plants, wildlife, and lands made them
more powerful than the countries who did not settle there. They were able to hold that
information over their enemies. Notably, the French are known for their geographical
influences in their colonies and explorations. The French colonization in Mexico is a major area
they gained power. The many explorations and documentation the French scientists massed are
invaluable knowledge then and now. Scientists such as Alexander von Humboldt and Henri de
Saussure paved the way for many more to document the lavish lands of Mexico. However, their
work was deterred by off limit areas and questions of legitimacy in their findings. These
geographical advances made it possible for the French to publish volumes of scholar level
information. This, for any country, is an area that can hold much power. Geographical influences
prevailed throughout Africa with many different European powers claiming her. In the early days
of European colonization Africa was seen as a purely territorial and prestigious land to settle. The
idea was to take her before anyone else did. This gave way to much geographical reasoning for
colonization. In the words of historian George N. Sanderson, Until the 1870 s, Africa as a whole
had been a purely geographical concept, of no practical relevance to the European politicians and
merchants concerned with the continent. (2008,

Call Of Duty Research Papers
Have you ever played or owned any type of video game? Video games are very addictive, especially
your favorite one. Call of Duty is a popular video game that is full of violence and shootings. The
quality of this video game looks just like real humans, shootings, guns, cities, towns, roads, etc.
Call of Duty started off as a simple video gameand is now expanding into a whole series that
people keep purchasing. Children of all ages are involved in playing this game, and most people are
against it. Call of duty has many negative qualities such as inactivity, and it causes violence in the
world; however, its positive value is that it is used for entertainment.

There are many different causes that end up causing obesity ( Obesity ). Today, more and more
children around the world are becoming lazy and eating more and being less active ( Obesity ).
Playing any type of video game, especially Call of Duty, is very addictive. It is addicting in a
way that all the person is interested in is video games, and that is what their time is spent on.
This causes inactivity, and inactivity causes obesity. Children are the main ones who are getting
addicted to playing video games and it tends to make them sit down on the couch in a dark and
gloomy room staring at a television playing the game all day long. Before they know it, twelve
hours or more have passed and the whole day is gone. Over the course of those twelve hours and

Analytic Thinking, Religion, and Prejudice
The relation between and the intersection of religion and analytic thinking are complex and
intransigently debated topic in the both social psychology and cognitive science literature for a
decade. Moreover, the idea that religions facilitate acts that cause the negative attitudes toward
especially religious out groups has relatively a long theoretical and empirical history in social
psychology(Allport Ross, 1967; Altemeyer Hunsberger, 1992; Spilka, 1986; Whitley Bernard,1999)
and is the main idea behind the evolutionary origins of religion(Atran Heinrich, 2010; Bering,
2011; Norenzayan Shariff, 2008; Preston Ritter, 2013; Rand et al., 2014; Shariff Norenzayan,

In all experiments, those who primed with analytic thinking expressed less belief in a personal God:
an average of about 41 on a 100 point scale for experimental group as compared to an average of
61 for control group. Although this finding is robust in different demographic variations, little is
known about its applicability to different religions which have Big Gods . (The term Big Gods
refer to omnipresent and omniscient moralizing agent (Shariff Norenzayan, 2007) and this is
unique to the three big religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam). Moreover, although they noted
that the manipulations did merely a dip in religious beliefs of participants instead of an extreme
change, it is unclear whether analytic thinking can decrease religious beliefs of highly religious
people. Nevertheless, between subject design had no possibility to do that; therefore, a within
subject replication of this effect is necessary to show its robustness.
Religion and Prejudice Cooperation requires acting and working together for the mutual benefits of
the members of the in group; that is, cooperative intentions toward in group members. Accordingly,
it is generally thought that religiosity evolved with the object of constructing large scale societies
where the anonymous interaction among genetically unrelated members of society is crucial

Taking a Look at Street Art
We see their art everywhere we go. On billboards, painted over some expensive advertising or a
blank canvas big enough for the entire world to admire. On buildings, where some tenants don t
care, but the ones who take pride in their surroundings want something done about it. On vehicles,
like moving trucks and abandoned cars. They want you to see their art in motion. On sidewalks,
under or on the side of bridges and freeways. To some, it s vandalism, to others, it tells a story and
lets the artist express themselves. It s street artand it s everywhere we turn. Some have enough time
to finish their work. Others run in haste to avoid being caught by the law and having to live the
rest of their lives behind bars.
Street art did not start with paint on walls, cars and on the side of buildings. In fact, artists like Da
Vinci and Monet started on the street and, later, became household names. Street artist and their art
came onto the scene in North America, in the 1960s, and has spread throughout the world (Shacter,
Pg. 15). It s seen in Japan, China, Germany, Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, to name a few. It is
interesting that North America started an interesting, often shunned, movement that started as an
individual being against something or being bored, to being one of the not amazing art out there.
The places that people choose to express themselves is sometimes remarkable. Often times,
passersby will look up in amazement and wonder. Taking pictures to capture and mae

The Effects of Fear on the Society Essay
The Effects of Fear on the Society Economics of population is, at its simplest, the study of a
distribution of resources. As demographic and environmental factors change, the careful balance of
supply and demand becomes altered. This change in the distribution of resources is usually a slow
developing process, as rising fertility rates or environmental waste can decade by decade create a
greater imbalance between what is available for consumption and what is needed for survival. Still,
sudden unexpected events sometimes arise that greatly disrupt the environmental balance. Such
was the case on September eleventh. On that morning, a hijacked airplane collided with one of the
two towers that make up the World Trade Center.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, the most debilitating effect of these terrorist acts was not the loss of thousands of floors
of office space or four large aircrafts, but rather was the creation of fear in American society.
Simply put, Americans do not know what will happen tomorrow. With the threat of a long
impending war as well as the frightening possibility of more terrorist attacks to come,
Americans are very unclear about their future. This fear can have a devastating effect on the
economy, as businesses are less willing to invest and citizens are less willing to spend. The
Economic Effects of Fear A disaster can hurt the economy in two ways. It can reduce supply, that
is, it can interfere with the economy s ability to produce or it can reduce demand, as it makes
people unwilling to buy the economy s products. Clearly the latter is the case today. The
Conference Board, a New York business research group, announced that the index of consumer
sentiment, a key measure of consumer confidence, dropped to 97.6 in September from a revised
114 in August, the biggest one month decline since the 1990 recession (US Confidence 1). Indeed,
U.S. consumer confidence is at a fiveyear low (Despeignes 1). As Morgan Stanley market strategist
Peter Canelo articulated, It s no longer about earnings or the economy or interest rates anymore. It s
about fear (Pethokoukis 4). As BusinessWeek wrote, Uncertainties about war, its impact, personal

A Full Time or Part Time Legislature
Name
Institutional affiliation
A full time legislature is a legislature where the members consider their jobs as being full time.
The members are well paid and committees are well staffed. Legislators meet for the most part of
the year and are paid as full time employees. Their extended time in office and the ability to devote
their time to issues allows them to perform their duties more effectively. A full time legislature
allows adequate time for debate and hearings among the legislators and the public, therefore the
decision making process is more informed. Legislators do not have to meet all year round in order

There are special sessions that are called by the governor. The legislative process in Texas is a
hybrid system with a combination of both the full time legislature and the part time legislature.
The 140 day sessions is a short period to conduct all the business of the state and the constitution
gives the governor the power to call as many special sessions needed in order to complete
important state business. These special sessions are short and do not exceed 30 days. Reducing
the duration of these sessions is important to ensure that the government does not govern too
much. At the end of a legislative session any bills that have not been approved by both houses die
on the last day of the session. The governor can use the threat of a special session to motivate
legislators to focus on issues that are of concern to the governor. The compromises that are
possible between Texas 140 day sessions and a full time approach include a reduction of costs and
the availability of adequate time to discuss and debate legislations. The sessions are limited to 140
days, but if there are issues that need legislative attention, then the governor can convene special
sessions to address these issues (Tucker,

Stress Management Essay
Stress Management
Stress management is something we as people should take a lot more seriously than we really do.
Whenever I tell someone that they need to learn how to control their stress they always tell me
they need their stress. They are right, they do need their stress, we all need a certain amount of stress
in our lives. No stress is almost just as unhealthy as too much stress. Just the right amount of
stress is called Eustress. Eustress is a healthy stressor because it helps to keep us motivated.
Unhealthy stress is called Distress. Distress is unhealthy because it can cause all sorts of health
problems such as anxiety attacks or high blood pressure. There are two different kinds of stressors,

Nothing beats aerobic exercise for relieving stress. The stress reaction in the body consists of
tightened muscles, increased heart rate, Increased blood pressure, and heavier breathing . The
result is our bodies go into a state of high energy but there is usually no place for that energy to
go. Exercise is the most logical way to dissipate this excess energy. In turn relieving stress.
#61623; Humor
Humor is the best medicine. Laughter reduces the heart rate and arterial blood pressure to below
their original levels and causes the chest, abdomen, and shoulder muscles to contract, thus
providing release from stress. Do the quiz in one of my humor potential quiz books located in the

Realistic Expectations
A common source of stress is unrealistic expectations. People often become upset about
something not because it is innately stressful but because it is not what they expected. For
example, If you get caught in slow moving traffic during rush hour you may not like it but it won

than likely to stress you out considerably. When expectations are realistic life seems more
predictable and therefore more manageable because you can plan ahead and prepare yourself. As for

The Public Sphere Within Theatre
The Public Sphere within theatre was a concept that was first delineated by philosopher Jurgen
Habermas in his book titled The structural transformation of the public sphere, in which he refers
to the right that all citizens hold, the right to participate and engage into discussions on public
matters of interest and public issues. Habermas writes: the audience does not constitute a space
for spectators and listeners but a space for speakers and addresses who engage in debate.
(Habermas in Balme 2012). The Public spherehas now become a space, a stage, for performers,
speakers and protesters to have a voice rather than for the preliminary use of entertainment for the
audience, spectators and listeners.

Public Sphere is explored. Balme traces the origins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Academic and artistic interest in something is usually a sure sign that matters are unclear,
conceptual boundaries are blurred and that old certainties are anything but that. There is also
little doubt that the major challenges we face: the media revolution, globalization and
migration, climate change, the erosion of public finances and services (to name just a few)
have all in some way a bearing on the public sphere, the realm where issues are debated and
where citizens are free to enter and engage in discourse. As the public sphere is primarily a
discursive arena located outside and between state bureaucracies on the one hand and economics
and business on the other, it occupies a crucial role in the functioning of so called free societies.
The question to be explored here is what role theatre and performance in practice play in this realm
and how performance and theatre theory can contribute to the debates. (Balme

Tax Reformation Common Ground
The tax policy in the United States is very confusing. When the tax policy was originally written
in 1913 it was four hundred pages. Now, over the past ninety one years, that tax policy has
evolved to over 72,000 pages. Since the tax code has become so lengthy and nearly impossible to
understand, the topic of taxreform has been in the minds of many. Although, most barely think
about tax reform until tax season. It is a controversial subject due to the impact a change in tax
code would have on the American people. The two most popular and widely known stakeholders in
this debate are the two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats and the
Republicans. The two parties share absolutely no common ground on the subject of... Show more

For example, if the tax rate is seven percent and one person makes one thousand dollars they would
pay seventy dollars to the government. While someone that only made one hundred dollars would
pay seven dollars to the government; this they may deem unfair.
The common ground the two parties would meet on would be a flat tax. So, any household that
is classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount
for everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for
that year, and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. It would take a lot of work to get
implemented, not only would the idea have to be adopted by both parties, it would have to be
supported by two of the three branches of government. The bill would begin in the House of
Representatives, after being passed there it would move to a vote with the Senate. If the bill
continues to be passed it will move to the executive branch where it can either be signed of
vetoed by the president, although a veto can be overridden with a two thirds vote from Congress.
Once it is passed the existing tax code would have to be completely thrown out and the flat tax
implemented. But this is not simply a month long process, the timeline for a flat tax to be
implemented would likely be about four years. It is a lengthy process, but one that is well worth
the wait.
While only economists can predict how a flat tax would impact

Allegory In The Handmaids Tale
The post Gileadean society depicted decades after Offred s story is the final allegory, presenting,
in its totality, the cyclicality of human nature. Just as the rise of Gilead showed the downfall of
liberalism and feminism, the fall of Gilead showed the exact opposite, a return to a world very
similar to the one before Gilead ever existed. In the novel, a symposium on the history of Gilead
describes how Gilead is a fascinating and worthwhile talk (299), using many similar descriptors
as are used to speak of the other classically conservative religious society, Puritanical
Massachusetts. Atwood presents how, just as the rise of Gilead signalled an end to the progression
of economic and social liberalism, the fall of Gilead showed the end... Show more content on

In the novel Moira is described as extremely free spirited and empowered to do as she wishes
before Gilead. During Gilead, her mindset stays the same, as using her extremely powerful
confidence, as her stiff backed posture was apparently enough to convince the Angels on
guard... Moira marched straight out the front door (132). Even under the crushing oppression of
Gilead, people like Moira and Offred keep up their resentment towards being told what to do,
even if the format changes. It is described how in Gilead, Offred decides against being a victim: I
intend to last , she declares. To last, she must pay attention. Especially early on in the novel, she
is alert to every detail around her (Neuman 4). On the more negative spectrum of unchanging
human qualities, Atwood presents the eternal establishment of social classes, even with the
purported ideas that everyone be equal in oppression. In Gilead racial and social divides abound,
as it is reported how The Econowives do not like [Handmaids] (Atwood 44). This, and the fact that
the symposium describes the racism that occurred in Gilead, shows how, no matter what the
society is, people will always carve out a space for them on the social ladder, only to look down on
those below them and envy those above them. The fact that humans, under either an extremely

Stand Your Ground Laws Are Relevant For American Society...
Stand Your Ground laws have been at the center of escalating deliberation, mainly after the law
was applied in a number of exceedingly broadcasted events (Auerbach, 2015, p.1). Stand Your
Ground law is a term for a type of self protection in which an individual is legally allowed to
defend his or herself against a threat or perceived threat against their life; law requires that
individual be in a place he or she is lawfully allowed to be (Long, N.D.). The debate concentrated
on whether Stand Your Ground laws justifiably serve to protect the public. The laws are relevant to
American society s perception on self defense. On February 26, 2012, one of the cases that made a
disturbance in many communities occurred. George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in
Sandford, Florida called policeto report a suspicious individual in the area. According to a Feb. 7,
2016 CNN report, while Zimmerman is on the phone with a dispatcher, the dispatcher asked him if
he was following the teen. When Zimmerman replied that he was, the dispatcher said, We don t
need you to do that. Zimmerman was instructed not to get out of his SUV or approach the person ,
but Zimmerman disregarded the instructions given to him by the police dispatcher (CNN, para.4).

The National Health Service Within The United Kingdom
Introduction to the Organisation The National Health Service within the United Kingdom refers
to the publically funded body with a variety of healthcare related statutory responsibilities. This
covers numerous individual services around the country, all of which must be able to provide a
level of service both emergency and non emergency to the public. The NHS was formed in 1948
after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation
that millions of individuals rely upon today. As an organisation within the public sector, the
performance of the NHS is often heavily scrutinised by the media and general public, as the
body is funded by taxpayer s money. The services offered by the organisation are also of extreme
importance in regards to public health, and as such, it is crucial that such an organisation has an
effective business continuity plan in order to maintain these services to the highest possible level
in front of unexpected disasters or failures. Legal Duties There are a number of legal
responsibilities placed upon the NHS in regards to business continuity and unexpected events. The
Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a legal requirement on all Category 1 Responders to have
Business Continuity Plans in place to ensure that the emergency element of the service can still be
run to an acceptable level regardless of disruption. The BS NHS 25999 Business Continuity

from anything consisting of being terrified of the dark, to being petrified to simply stand next to a

is that they are the effect of a traumatic event that took place in the person s life. In addition,

Personal Development Plan Analysis
A good personal development plan template includes five steps that guide you to take action. When

In fact, keeping your personal development strategy simple is important when seeking a good
template. Why is this important? Because when learning how to write a personal development plan
(also referred to as a PD Plan), it is easy to get analysis paralysis if your example personal

If you aren t familiar with the term, analysis paralysis, it s where you are so caught up in your head,

Prioritize goals
3. Action steps
4. Time line for first action
5. What if I do nothing?
IDENTIFY GOALS: When you start your personal growth plan, of course you ll want to identify
what you want to accomplish. However, here s where many people make their first mistake by
not identifying goals that are truly what they desire or are realistic enough to achieve. Be sure that
your goals are what you truly desire at a deep, core level of your being.
PRIORITIZE GOALS: Once you find goals that are what you want and not want someone else
wants for you, and these goals are realistic, there are certain steps to prioritizing these goals using
something called, reverse goal setting. This is exactly what it sounds like where you take your
end goal and work backwards writing down each step it took to get there. Like you are walking
your goal backwards.
ACTION STEPS: Once you ve done your reverse goal setting and have a step by step map for
your personal development strategy, an important part of your PD planning is to find a way to
turn these bread crumbs you ve identified as a sequence of goals into a personal action plan. To do
this, simply ask yourself, What can I do today on bread crumb number 1 to take

Canad A Diverse Country With People From Different...
Introduction
Canada is a diverse country with people from different cultures living harmoniously together. Unlike
nations such as America where people consider themselves as Americans first, almost a third of
Canadians identify with another culture or ethnic group, in addition to being Canadian.
Internationally, Canada is praised for its progressive, antiracist laws that support multiculturalism.
While multiculturalism is something that is gaining currency in most countries around the world as
a strategy for including the minorities, Canada was the first country to develop comprehensive
multiculturalism policies. Canada also supports international efforts to protect human rights.
Despite the international credentials of Canada as a bastion of freedom and equality, there are
problems regarding the historical treatment of first nations. Even now, the standard of livings for
members of first nations is significantly lower than that of the average for Canada. Aboriginal life
expectancy is lower and, has fewer high school graduates, and other quality of life outcomes are
poor compared to the rest of the population. What is apparent is race determines success, with euro,
Canadian outperforming the rest. Inequity in socio economic conditions between Aboriginals and
non Aboriginals is the result of a history of colonialism and institutional racism (Bryant, 2015,
January 22).
Aboriginal people are over represented among the homeless in Canada. This suggests that issues

Straight Outta Sacred Film Analysis
Straight Outta Compton tells the mostly true story of the formation, rise, and eventual
separation of the hip hop group N.W.A. in the late 1980s. N.W.A. was an influential force in rap
music and is today considered the forerunner of gangsta rap. In this movie, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and
Ice Cube are the main characters while other featured characters are manager Jerry Heller, MC
Ren, and DJ Yella. The movie gives a brief background on each of the main three characters and
shows how they joined forces to create a powerful rap group which gave voice to the racial
tensions and realities of life in south central Los Angeles during the 1980s and early 1990s.

prestigious high schoolin Britain. He thought the college s physics lessons were too easy and so,
worked on subjects independently. He won Eton s physics and chemistry awards when he was 18,
and was admitted in 1906 to the University of Oxford s Trinity College to study physics. Due to a
hayfever, he only got second class honor degree during the final exam. He then moved to the

He moved back to Oxford in 1913. Even when Rutherford offered him a new fellowship at
Manchester on better terms, Moseley declined. He decided the best path would be to get experience
from different laboratories. He put together experimental apparatus to shoot high energy electrons
at different chemical elements and measure the wavelength and frequencies of the resulting X rays.
The X rays, he noticed, was different for each element. If he plotted the square root of X ray
frequency against elements atomic numbers, he would get a straight line, which had confirmed
Broek s hypothesis. He realized that the element s atomic number is the same as the number of
protons that element has. He states that the difference between elements are the number of protons
that have, and the number of protons define what element the atom is. Moseley arranged a periodic
table of elements but had made too many scientists uncomfortable. As a result, the table was
forgotten. He had predicted the existence of four undiscovered elements that contained with 43, 61,
72, and 75 protons when he had noticed the gaps in his table of elements. He also concluded that
there were only 92 elements, including uranium and 14 rare earth

Pros and Cons of Going International
Pros and cons of going international
When thinking about internationalization, a lot of people instantly associate it with multinational
companies. It cannot be said that they are wrong; however, internationalization is a far more
complex phenomena as it does not only consist of companies setting their headquarters outside the
borderlines of the countries of origin. If an entity simply decides to import or export commodities
or services, their action can also be described as going international ; producing effects both
domestically and internationally. In recent years, the number of companies that chose to get
involved in international business operations and transactions increased substantially to the point
where becoming visible in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many companies that derive their sales from outside their home country. Very large
companies such as BASF of Germany, Electrolux of Sweden, Gillette and Coca Cola of the United
States, Michelin of France, Philips of the Netherlands, Sony of Japan, Nestle of Switzerland make
over half of their sales through international operations.
Diversifying the sources of sales and supplies. Most of the times, in order to avoid the fluctuations
in sales and profit, companies look for foreign markets; taking advantage of the business cycle
differences among countries. For instance, if they incur price fluctuations or shortages in one
country, they can obtain supplies of the same product and component in other.
Other factors that contribute to the positive trend regarding internationalization are represented by
the following: the need to increase global competition along with the quick exposure to new
products, the development and expansion of technology, the liberalization of cross border
movements and the development of supporting services that ease international business (examples
of supporting systems include the airmail and international payment systems).
Internationalization does come with costs, though, from the immediate monetary costs incurred
related to extending the operations to the risk of failure brought by the difficulty in running such
operations. These costs depend on the

Why Innovation Is An Tool For Generating Value And A...
The tendency of companies in recent years, as a result of globalization processes, has been to look
for business strategies in order to achieve improvement and competitiveness processes that become
fundamental for the growth of both production and productivity (Oslo Handbook, 2005), where
innovationis the necessary tool for generating value and a source of competitive advantage.
Explaining the relationships with the product, the process and the management of the company and
the innovation models, which in most cases are adapted to the needs of each company.
Although there are different statements of the term innovation, in a broad sense it can be said that
innovation is synonymous with change. However, in detailing this concept are more precise
definitions such as the one exposed by the Confederation of English Industries (1992), which says
that Innovation is the success of the exploitation of new ideas. The relationship between them, and
technology with the commercial elements of management, marketing and knowledge ; While the
OECD Oslo Manual, in its second version, explains it as the introduction on the market of
technologically new or improved products, as well as the use of production methods with
technological improvements ... Have performed for a certain period.
Schumpeter, who conceived innovation as one of the causes of economic development, understood
it as a process of economic, social and cultural transformation, defined as the introduction of new
goods and

New Born Infants And Visual Acuity
New born infants have poor visual acuity as opposed to adults. Visual acuity measures to what
extent an individual can detect visual detail. Their lack of visual acuity means they see the world
a more ill defined manner. Adult visual acuity is thirty times the visual acuity of a new born (Van
Hof van Duin Mohn 1985). Atkinson Bradrick (1981), supported this and found that new born
infants could only detect the separation of lines if they are 30 times wider than the minimum width
adults can detect. There is at least a five fold improvement by 6 months of age in acuity, though it
takes several years for it to reach adult level, Brown Yamamoto 1986. New born infants also have
poor visual accommodation, needed to make sharp retinal images at different distances. Although
infantperceptiondiffers in terms of acuity, infant perception on size and shape constancy requires
less development. Adults understand that objects have a constant shape and size, regardless of their
distance, and the angle of perception. The developmental question lies on whether size and shape
principles guide infant perception, or whether constancies are developed through experience. This
argument is one of many in exploring whether infants learn through cognitive adaptations, or
whether they learn through experience and what the environment offers them. Previous
assumptions by Piaget, state that these principles were not present at birth, but developed towards
the end of the first year. This

States Navy. After the death of his father, General moved his family back to the states for
financial reasons. In 1835 General Meade graduated from the Military Academy at West Point.
After graduation he pursued a civilian career as an engineer for the railroads. In1940 he married
Margaretta Sergeant and they had seven children. Meade was a Brigadier General when the Civil
War began (www.history.com, 2015).
General Robert Edward Lee, born in Virginia in 1807. Born into a military family, he graduated

  • 2. Red Blood Cell Is An Essential Treatment For Patients With... Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusion is an essential treatment for patients with the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization. To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe) and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant antigens. 10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. RBC antigen phenotypes determined by single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was compared with serologic testing for 13 routinely tested RBC antigens. The frequency of ... He also shares some characteristics of what a true friend should always have. Those characteristics are Common interest, History, Common values, Equality, a commitment to your happiness, not asking you to place the friendshipbefore your principles, and a good influence. The Vietnamese Of The Vietnam Situated on the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is the eastern most country bordered by China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. Prior to the conquest of Indochina by the French, Vietnam was ruled by the Chinese for more than eight centuries. However, after several years of resistance the Vietnamese overthrew the Chinese kingdom in their country and thus became independent. In spite of gaining freedom, the Vietnamese rulers continued to uphold the Chinese system of governance, policy making and also its culture. In fact, most of the Vietnamese were largely influenced by the Chinese culture and religion, mainly Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. The French troops entered the land of Vietnam in the year 1858 and by the mid 1880s they had established a firm grip over the northern region. Modeled Reading Through Shared Reading Modeled reading is often explained as the process of reading aloud, such as a teacher reading aloud to students or students reading aloud to each other (Sipe, 2002). However, the modelling process of the balanced literacy philosophy should be more than simply a teacher reading aloud to students or students readingaloud to each other as a class. Instead, modelling should involve teachers demonstrating the action of engaging with a text. For example, a teacher might engage in modelling by showing students the cover to a book and explaining how he or she can predictions about the content of the book from the cover, or readingthe table of contents to gain some understanding of the information to be presented (Duke Pearson, 2002). Shared reading is the process of teachers and students engaging in shared reading activities as a way of teachers beginning to give students more independence and responsibility in reading instruction (Wall, 2014). The Investment Office dampened the weight of venture capital funds in its portfolio (46% in 1990 against 25% in 2006) as a result of lack of high quality venture capital funds. More recently, the overall weight of private equity in the Investment Office portfolio has been decreasing (from a target of 25% against the most recent number of 17%) as a consequence of Yale perceiving lack of specialization of several equity funds ( positioning themselves as asset managers ) and because of the indiscipline and inexperience of several new market players. • 24. The Effects of Fear on the Society Essay The Effects of Fear on the Society Economics of population is, at its simplest, the study of a distribution of resources. As demographic and environmental factors change, the careful balance of supply and demand becomes altered. This change in the distribution of resources is usually a slow developing process, as rising fertility rates or environmental waste can decade by decade create a greater imbalance between what is available for consumption and what is needed for survival. Still, sudden unexpected events sometimes arise that greatly disrupt the environmental balance. Such was the case on September eleventh. On that morning, a hijacked airplane collided with one of the two towers that make up the World Trade Center.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, the most debilitating effect of these terrorist acts was not the loss of thousands of floors of office space or four large aircrafts, but rather was the creation of fear in American society. Simply put, Americans do not know what will happen tomorrow. With the threat of a long impending war as well as the frightening possibility of more terrorist attacks to come, Americans are very unclear about their future. This fear can have a devastating effect on the economy, as businesses are less willing to invest and citizens are less willing to spend. The Economic Effects of Fear A disaster can hurt the economy in two ways. It can reduce supply, that is, it can interfere with the economy s ability to produce or it can reduce demand, as it makes people unwilling to buy the economy s products. Clearly the latter is the case today. The Conference Board, a New York business research group, announced that the index of consumer sentiment, a key measure of consumer confidence, dropped to 97.6 in September from a revised 114 in August, the biggest one month decline since the 1990 recession (US Confidence 1). Indeed, U.S. consumer confidence is at a fiveyear low (Despeignes 1). A Full Time or Part Time Legislature Name Institutional affiliation A full time legislature is a legislature where the members consider their jobs as being full time. The members are well paid and committees are well staffed. Legislators meet for the most part of the year and are paid as full time employees. Their extended time in office and the ability to devote their time to issues allows them to perform their duties more effectively. There are special sessions that are called by the governor. The legislative process in Texas is a hybrid system with a combination of both the full time legislature and the part time legislature. The 140 day sessions is a short period to conduct all the business of the state and the constitution gives the governor the power to call as many special sessions needed in order to complete important state business. These special sessions are short and do not exceed 30 days. Reducing the duration of these sessions is important to ensure that the government does not govern too much. At the end of a legislative session any bills that have not been approved by both houses die on the last day of the session. The governor can use the threat of a special session to motivate legislators to focus on issues that are of concern to the governor. The compromises that are possible between Texas 140 day sessions and a full time approach include a reduction of costs and the availability of adequate time to discuss and debate legislations. The sessions are limited to 140 days, but if there are issues that need legislative attention, then the governor can convene special sessions to address these issues (Tucker, ... The Public Sphere Within Theatre The Public Sphere within theatre was a concept that was first delineated by philosopher Jurgen Habermas in his book titled The structural transformation of the public sphere, in which he refers to the right that all citizens hold, the right to participate and engage into discussions on public matters of interest and public issues. Habermas writes: the audience does not constitute a space for spectators and listeners but a space for speakers and addresses who engage in debate. (Habermas in Balme 2012). The Public spherehas now become a space, a stage, for performers, speakers and protesters to have a voice rather than for the preliminary use of entertainment for the audience, spectators and listeners. As the public sphere is primarily a discursive arena located outside and between state bureaucracies on the one hand and economics and business on the other, it occupies a crucial role in the functioning of so called free societies. So, any household that is classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount for everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for that year, and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. Just as the rise of Gilead showed the downfall of liberalism and feminism, the fall of Gilead showed the exact opposite, a return to a world very similar to the one before Gilead ever existed. In the novel, a symposium on the history of Gilead describes how Gilead is a fascinating and worthwhile talk (299), using many similar descriptors as are used to speak of the other classically conservative religious society, Puritanical Massachusetts. The NHS was formed in 1948 after a series of public welfare reforms, and has evolved into the multi billion pound organisation that millions of individuals rely upon today. While multiculturalism is something that is gaining currency in most countries around the world as a strategy for including the minorities, Canada was the first country to develop comprehensive multiculturalism policies. • 42. New Born Infants And Visual Acuity New born infants have poor visual acuity as opposed to adults. Visual acuity measures to what extent an individual can detect visual detail. Their lack of visual acuity means they see the world a more ill defined manner. Adult visual acuity is thirty times the visual acuity of a new born (Van Hof van Duin Mohn 1985). Atkinson Bradrick (1981), supported this and found that new born infants could only detect the separation of lines if they are 30 times wider than the minimum width adults can detect. There is at least a five fold improvement by 6 months of age in acuity, though it takes several years for it to reach adult level, Brown Yamamoto 1986. New born infants also have poor visual accommodation, needed to make sharp retinal images at different distances. Although infantperceptiondiffers in terms of acuity, infant perception on size and shape constancy requires less development. Adults understand that objects have a constant shape and size, regardless of their distance, and the angle of perception. The developmental question lies on whether size and shape principles guide infant perception, or whether constancies are developed through experience.
