The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning
When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a
person, including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical
person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically
indistinguishable to the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning
was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used
cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural
methods. Plants that are propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or
from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning
happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that
began the idea of cloning. Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have
been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any advantages or
disadvantages.
Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell
extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same
(Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the
identical DNA (Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, researchers remove a
mature somatic cell, such as a skin cell, from

Health Care Reflection
The patient I cared for today, was admitted into the NICU on October 17th. He was experiencing
respiratory distress, has breathed (aspirated) meconium into the lungs around the time of birth. The
neonate had stabilized, so the nurse and I were preparing for the family to discharge from the
hospital. The immediate needs that were verbalized by the patient were hunger cries and soiled
diaper/ angry cries. Immediate needs from the family were instruction on how much formula to feed
the baby and circumcision care once discharged home. During my clinical experience, the patient
experienced pain from the circumcision process. The healthcare team members alleviated the
physical suffering by administrating lidocaine pain medication and giving the baby sugar water. I
think the only improvement that I would make to these interventions would be to administer the
lidocaine earlier so that it could be more effective in the patient s pain management. Long term
needs for the patient were speech therapy in order to improve the baby s feeding technique,
infection prevention, and teaching measures for the parents. The needs could be met through
referral to a speech therapist upon discharge from the hospital, teaching family members proper
handwashing, and educating parents on subject matters.
The healthcare team interacted with the patient and family in an excellent fashion. They utilized
the teach back method when educating parents about infant care, used compassionate care, and used

Socrates Vs Plato Dualism
Morals, as defined by The Merriam Webster dictionary, stands for of or relating to principles of
right and wrong in behavior . You can see the evidence of morals in every activity, choosing to be
honest or to lie, possessing respect or showing contempt, exhibiting kindness or inconsideration, all
are examples of moral code. Many may argue that there is dualism in the world, two opposing
principles, either good or evil, and others may take the stance of monism, stating that it is only
necessary to choose one theory for your moral decision making. Well there are many morality
perspectives we could look at I will narrow it down to Platos theory of morality, which was one
people always will do what is right when they know what is right.... Show more content on

The man contemplates, does he use the information and make himself extremely rich or not.
The man goes ahead and uses the numbers and wins the money, Just like anybody he s happy
about winning but in the back of his mind he knows he cheated. A couple weeks pass and he s
got the money and he celebrating. Then he arrested along with his friend because they used
inside information and now have to spend time in jail and give back all the winnings including
what the winner spent. I know that people do the wrong thing even if they know what is right
because of greed. I know that Plato would not agree with my example because he would see that
the man was corrupted by another and somewhat prompted to do wrong. Is my scenario a perfect
representation of a choice between good or bad, no because there could be many ways where
there could be different variables like the man needed the money which could have influenced him

The Jersey Shore After Hurricane Sandy
As you all know the Jersey Shore took a beating after Hurricane Sandy. Our two houses survived
for the most part, but being there after the destruction, hit me in a way I never thought about
before. I felt in my heart that I was getting a glimpse into what an adopted child feels all through
their transition. Today I was thinking about the day I spent down there waiting for the gas man
to come. Let me explain... Since all power, gas and water had been shut down for some time we
had to get everything working again. As I sat in that 44 degree house waiting for the gas man to
get everything up and running, I got a glimpse out the window. I saw two ducks floating in the
lagoon with garbage all around them and I started to take it all in for the first time since that
October day had changed everything down there. It was a symbol of the past and the present
coming together. There we were in a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before
the storm hit I was there with a bunch of friends enjoying my world and my life and this house
saw so much laughter, fun and good friends come together. It was alive! All summer long we
were down there enjoying our New House. It was new because Hurricane Irene had ruined the one
that stood there before. This New House was only eight months old and at that moment, as I stood
there being one of the few that came away unscathed, I looked out into the night. It was just
starting to get dark, the houses around me and across from me all

The Integration Of The European Union
Modern culture commonly exceeds the boundaries of individual nation states through processes
such as globalisation, improvement in technologies and the rise in free trade; leading to the concept
of transnationalism (Waldinger, 2013). Transnationalism involves interactions linking people or
institutions across the borders of many nation states (Crang et al, 2003). Transnationalism is
intrinsically linked to mobility; mobility is the ongoing and continuous cross border movements in
which people develop and maintain economic, social and cultural links in more than one nation,
mobility (this sentence is too long but I m not sure how to change it so it still makes sense)
facilitates transnationalism with enables Europeanisation (Ernste, 2009).... Show more content on

As a result, integration allows Europe to increase their economic output, because as Hansen and
Jonsson (2014) argue West Europe lacks the natural resources necessary to become a viable
economic power to compete globally. The Schengen agreement of 1995 therefore facilitates trade,
transnationalism and Europeanisation because it enables workers, particularly lorry drivers, to
move easily across the continent.
Medrano (2012) argues that integration processes are difficult because of the diversity within the
EU, the rise of Euroscepticism, and the shift in the balance of power of national institutions from
domestic parliaments to a European parliament. Fligstein (2012) mentions that in 2004 only 3.9 per
cent of people who lived in Europe viewed themselves as European, this is very damning in
suggesting that the processes of EU integration have failed because no one identifies themselves as
European. Raunio (2011) also echoes this sentiment; he comments that national governments are the
gatekeepers of EU integration; however, the consistent enlargement of the EU has made this task
more difficult, leading to the conclusion that integration has resulted in the loss of control that
domestic governments have over their decisions

Unit 2 Assignment 1 Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity
Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity
Jennifer L. Wethington
ITT Technical Institute
Unit 2 Assignment 1 Bacterial illness is a result of complex interactions between bacteria and the
host. During evolution, humans developed many ways to protect themselves against bacterial
pathogens. On the other hand, bacteria have developed strategies to evade, subvert or circumvent
these defenses (Sousa, 2003) One of the most important characteristics of bacterial pathogenicity is
the various strategies developed by prokaryotic organisms to use host molecules for their own
benefit (Sousa, 2003). To accomplish this, bacteria have evolved elaborate control mechanisms to
turn genes on and off, varying the transcriptional activator or ... Show more content on

In the initial phase of infection, environmental strains of P. aeruginosa from any aqueous setting are
inadvertently inhaled or otherwise delivered to the upper respiratory tract (Feldman, et al., 1998). It
is at this stage where the expression of functional flagella is critical, providing chemotaxis toward
desirable substrates, such as mucin, and the motility essential for widespread dissemination
(Feldman, et al., 1998). In the normal host, the presence of defenses and additional antimicrobial
peptides, the affinity of flagella components for mucin glycopeptides, and the process of
mucociliary clearance are likely to eradicate such transiently inhaled organisms from the respiratory
tract before any epithelial immune response is elicited (Feldman, et al., 1998).
While motility is commonplace among the prokaryotes, it is important to note the variety of
structures responsible for motility. These structures vary depending not only on the organism in
question, but also on the particular environment (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Study of the bacterial
flagellum has provided insights into many aspects of prokaryotic cellular activities including
genetics and regulation, physiology, environmental sensing, protein secretion and assembly of
complex structures (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Continued study of all prokaryotic motility structures
will provide knowledge that is likely to reach far beyond the topic of motility and pathogenicity

Greenwashing in Media Essay
Research ProjectGreenwashing in MediaIn this day and age companies have mastered the
technique of misleading customers by fabricating false claims about a green product or service
that they swear to provide. This insincere display of information is called Greenwashing , a spin
off of Whitewashing . Greenwashing could be said to be a global phenomenon and it s commonly
seen in advertisements, on products packing, websites, emails, speeches, and videos (just to name
a few). Greenwashing is a thought out process, a planned and typically well designed campaign.
There is a wide range of reasons why companies are eager to partake in greenwashing; divert

On your weekly trip to the supermarket it s easy to find a number of products, from coffee to
dishwashing soap, that flaunt their green attributes (American Psychological Association, 2010).
With such rumors of greenwashing, consumers are more confused than ever. However, some
consumers know the tricks and are coming to find that there are companies whose marketing
practices are legit, not exaggerated or deceiving. APA also found that, people are willing to spend
more of their hard earned green on green products, according to a 2008 survey of 9,000 adults
performed by the global business firm Boston Consulting Group (American Psychological
Association, 2010). Consumers who are willing to pay more for a product or service are assuming
that they are purchasing a healthier, safer, and better quality product or service for the environment.
Unfortunately there are consequences that arise when a consumer has been greenwashed. These
consequences are that consumers ultimately spend more money on products that they believe stand
true, and when purchasing these products the consumer is supporting companies that are harming
the environment. Downing et al. states that, learning how to read advertising critically thus
provides individuals with important tools for interpreting contemporary American culture and
avoiding manipulation. Ads are complex texts, the images, words, framing devices, and

After gaining independence the United States struggled to establish a stable government and a
constitution. The United States relied on the Article of Confederation to constitute issues that the
states faced. Even with, what was then considered a constitution , in place the United States still
faced problems with their government bodies. The Article of Confederation failed to solve issues
but did manage to cause major confusion and disagreements with the Congress. The founding
fathers goal was to create a national government, but they also wanted to establish a weak one who
job was to unify states and control war. The national government would control trade and mediate
conflicts amongst the states. When writing the Article... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ghost in the Wires is a story of Kevin Mitnick s life. I find the book s topic compelling because I
have always been interested in doing what Kevin does: hacking and working with what makes
technology tick. He also opened my eyes to a new culture called phreaking . As I read, the book
became even more interesting, as Kevin not only told us what he did; he told us how he did it
descriptively. He told us comedic stories about pranks he would pull on businesses with his
colleagues, his close run ins with authority, and other tales that made me smile. Along with this
were personal problems he encountered, such as his divorce with Bonnie Vitello, and the
involvement of the government in his activities online, which made me feel closer to him as

Ivan Denisovich Answers
The author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn throughout the book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
brings up the question of how to make life meaningful, in this case, in the darkest circumstances.
Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the main character, lives a normal day in his life of suffering prisoner
to a gulag camp. The book offers interpretations that leads to answers to the central question
mentioned previously. Answers vary from making meaning in life by being unique and standing
out as an individual, meeting people in which to bond and live with, and coming to terms with one
s circumstances in life. This would affect a reader s understanding of the work as a whole by
putting the whole situation in a new view in which one can truly see the struggle... Show more

In this novel the prevailing question is how to live life with a sense of significance, the prisoners in
the gulag camp undergo ghastly conditions but by making peace with how their life is they can
move on and continue a positive life. Shukhov is a prime example in which case he is
unchanged by the camp, he keeps strict morals and has a specific code of ethics all the while
braving through the heinous gulag camp. The storyteller states, At five o clock that morning
reveille was sounded [...] The clanging ceased, but everything outside still looked like the
middle of the night when ivan Denisovich Shukhov got up to go to the bucket [...] He always
got up at once, for the next ninety minutes, until they assembled for work (Solzhenitsyn 6), this
statement of Shukhov s actions would prove how he lived with a purpose and went straight to
work. Shukhov wakes earlier than the rest then works hard and relentlessly, by being strong in
this case and coming to terms with how his life is currently he continues as if everything is
normal and just focuses on doing what he can, which is working hard. If people are stuck on the
negative aspects of life and how they are powerless to some things it overall creates a pessimistic
view which makes life worse in quality. By accepting everything Shukhov focuses on what is
possible and strives after working hard which makes his life leaps and bounds more enthusiastic
than someone who dwells on the unalterable, gloomy parts of existence. The prisoners use the
harsh conditions of the gulag camp as a way to strengthen themselves, the spectator mentions, and
the longer he spent at the camp the stronger he made himself (Solzhenitsyn 56). By getting over
the worst parts of life and just doing your best with what you can people become more fortified
and are able to live life with more bravado than others. By being diligent and focusing on what is
possible

If the service provider is uncomfortable with this inquiry there may be business reason why
their service is not intended for data migration. A gray area in many assessment service
agreements is defining the deliverable; i.e. hard copy reports. If the deliverable is a PDF, then the
electronic records may be retained for leverage by the service provider, or if they offer their data;
it may be unusable. Drilling down into the detail here can save organizations thousands of dollars in
re inspection expenses.
Preventing Lost Electronic Records
Building owners have realized the value of inspection records in some cases only after
terminating a service provider. Then, finding the service provider demanded a significant fee to
transfer the electronic records, the transfer request was ignored, or the data which was the
centerpiece of expensive multiple year service agreement was upon closer inspection, kept in a
unusable data format, or was built specifically for the firm using it.
Historical inspection records save data entry costs when as built information is in place. The facility
sizes, construction types, sizes rarely change. Once documented, structured correctly, updating
conditions can be done in less than half the time required to set up the original database. When
surveys and condition assessments cost thousands of dollars, there is a good reason to insure

President Franklin D. Roosevelt
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, arguably one of the most famous Presidents because of his
work during such a difficult time took office in 1933. Roosevelt came into office with a bold
plan and acted on it swiftly, providing jobs and relief for those in need. Over the next eight
years, the government instituted a series of experimental projects and programs, known
collectively as the New Deal, that aimed to restore some measure of dignity and prosperity to
many Americans. More than that, Roosevelt s New Deal permanently changed the federal
government s relationship to the U.S. populace. The New Deal consisted of a number of
government funded programs. For my purpose though, I want to focus on the Bank Act of 1933.
The Bill was sponsored by Sen. Carter Glass (D VA) and Rep. Henry Steagall (D AL) and signed
into law by Roosevelt in 1933. This policy change set up the banking industry for a successful
recovery and a strong future. The Bank Act of 1933 contained many goals. One of the most crucial
successes of this law was that commercial banking and investment banking were now completely
separate. This interaction had been a problem due to overlap in business practices that weren t
morally right. Another system of value that came from this act was the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporationor FDIC, as many of us know it today. What the FDIC does is insure deposits up to a
certain amount. This was great for the clients of the bank and brought back a sense of security

Frost, By Robert Frost
Robert Frost, an indigenous New England poet, is deserving of an ovation for his contributions
and magnitude in American Literature. Frost advises his readers to be actively engaged in
questioning the world we inhabit (49, Dickstein). In most of Frost s work, readers and critics enjoy
his choices of theme, likely being the outdoors and his surroundings. By using emotions recollected
in tranquility and his organic and inviolable relationship with his countryside, he celebrates New
Englands natural beauty throughout his literature using simple and accessible idioms. Edward
Garnett once predicted that Frost was destined to take a permanent place in American Literature
which he unquestionably has (40 49).
James S. Wilson praised Frost for his abiding humanity and the honesty of his portrayals of people
and situations, an honesty that disguises the inherent passion of his work. Like previously
mentioned, Frost s themes were often what caught the attention of many. As Morris Dickstein
explained in Critical Insights Robert Frost, the core themes were established early on and have
remained constant focal points up to the present, though revised and elaborated upon over time (40).
Prior to Frost s pursuit of poetry, he had worked on a farm. Having done that, he had many hours on
the land, with time to appreciate the green colors and natural sounds and beauty. Robert Frost had
educational background, including the renowned Dartmouth College and Harvard University, left his

Lab Report on Paper Towels
Which Paper Towel is Stronger and
Has More Absorbency?
Decorator or Sparkle?
Introduction
Paper towels are made from softwood trees which contain long fibers. The tree goes thru several
processes before it is actually turned into a paper towel. The paper towel is made from pulp in
which the water is removed and the fibers then bond into sheets. Also, resin is added to the process
to give the paper towel strength (Union). Several layers are then put together with adhesive and
then formed into a paper towel (Choudhury). Some paper towels are embossed to form air pockets
which help to absorb more liquid and help to add more strength (Union).
The purpose of this experiment is to find out which brand of paper towel, Decorator or ... Show

The process was then repeated for the second brand of paper towel.
The independent variable for the experiment was the paper towels. The dependent variable was the
absorbency and strength. The constants for the experiment were the size of the paper towels that
were used, the amount of water, the size of the beaker, the size of the cylinder and the amount of
the weight.
Results
The results of the experiment for the test of strength were that the Sparkle brand proved to be the
strongest. The average amount that the paper towel would hold before ripping was 583.6 g, which
was 159.2 g more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held 424.4 g before it
ripped.
The results of the experiment for the test of absorbency were that the Sparkle brand proved to be
the most absorbent. The average amount of liquid that the Sparkle brand paper towel held was
17.4 mL, which was 4.6 mL more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held
12.8 of liquid.

Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville
Bartleby, the Scrivener is an interesting short story written by Herman Melville for Putnam s
magazine at a time when Melville was in need for money (Davis 183). The narrator opens with a
description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon
after, the narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the
namesake of the story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he
started off copying as desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him;
how he was eventually fired but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how
he was put into prison; and how he died of starvation while incarcerated. The... Show more content

Secondly, we know the narrator to be the protagonist due to the fact that he is the one that
experiences conflict in the story. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led
toward a realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this
realization has to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical
ideals, or, in other words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the
protagonist of a story is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can
thereby deduce that the lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the
implication that the lawyer is the protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this
truly is the case. Notably, we cannot possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe
himself because we only know of the lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that
although Bartleby is the main focus of the narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally,
Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife, and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though
he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact, Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader,
like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for

decimation of the Norwegians. This decision probably had some merit in the circumstances of
the time. It is entirely possible that the gold was needed for the war against Normandy or that
the booty was in the form of boats which Harold intended to use in combat. Nonetheless, Harold
s pronouncement caused outright desertion in the troops. Secondly, despite the long stay of
William s fleet at Dives and England s superior ship fleet Harold attempted none of Drake s
tactics and failed to singe William s beard. Perhaps most importantly when one considers Harold
s tactical errors was his removal of the Hastings force. After the sighting of Halley s Comet
Harold had gathered a huge force, with the threat of Harald Hardrada some of these men,
including the Hastings guard, had been redeployed. However, in anticipation of William s attack a
garrison had been left to guard the natural ports of Romney and Dover. This is yet another example
of William s supernatural luck. This is my last

The Turning By Tim Winton Summary
Life is one great big roller coaster, with its own ups and downs, but every now and then there
come moments where the track changes turning points in life, changing our lives in some way.
But, does everyone have such a turning point in their lives? The answer to this is yes. In The
Turning, written by Tim Winton, each of the 17 short stories have turning points, some big and
some small, an example of which is in Reunion where it starts as the main character Vic Lang,
found in most of the stories, is invited to his uncle s Christmas party; the turning point of which
being that his wife, Gail, finally bonds with his mother Carol after years of marriage.
The first time we see Vic Lang, going by his age, is in Abbreviation when he goes with his family
camping for New Year s, which is also the first time he finds an imperfect person; Melanie, with
her abbreviation , is missing two segments of her finger. This is the first turning point for Vic,
starting his passion for imperfect people and is also his sexual awakening , the first time he shows

Spring Is Right Around The Corner, And It s Time
Spring is right around the corner, and it s time to start thinking about the gardening. Whether it
be flower beds or a vegetable garden, all your hard work in the beginning will set you up for an
enjoyable summer. Here a few different types of beds that you may want to try. Raised concrete
block vegetable garden You may ask yourself why you would want a raised concrete garden?
Concrete blocks absorb the heat all day long and maintain the root heat long into the night,
warm roots have produce many more vegetables for me. You need to measure your space and
take this into consideration when planning your new project. The cost may seem expensive at
first, but remember these blocks will last you a life time, so it is more than likely a one time
purchase. I make my concrete block two blocks high, spread out plastic, line the bottom with
rocks that I gather through out the yard or wood line, these are used for proper drainage. Fill
with dirt, fertilizer and soil nutrients and plant your plants. You can put a decorative spin on the
blocks by painting them, paint them a plain color or show your artist side and do a mural. What
ever you do make it uniquely yours. You will be so surprised how much more you yield after
putting together this garden, It actually doubled what I usually get. Patio Garden If a huge
garden is not your thing, how about a small patio garden? You can do a very manageable, easy to
care for garden right on your deck. Here are some tips if you decide to do

Circumcision Persuasive Speech
Title: Circumcision in baby boys
Name: Leya Saju
Plain Language Summary
What is circumcision? What are the benefits? What are the risks?
Circumcision is when the skin that surrounds the tip of the penis is removed. It is a very common
surgery in the United States. It is usually done in newborns, but can also be done in older men.
Families choose to do circumcision because of personal hygiene, faith, tradition etc. While other
families see it as unnecessary.
Circumcision makes it easier to wash the penis and keep the area clean. It also decreases the chance
of getting infections. Sometimes in men who are not circumcised, it may become difficult to pull
the foreskin back. This may cause that foreskin or the head of the penis to become inflamed. Also,
cancer of the penis is seen less in circumcised men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rarely, the foreskin does not heal properly or the cut may be made too short or too long. The
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends circumcision because there are a lot more
benefits than risks, but the decision is entirely up to the parents.
How is it done? Does it hurt?
Circumcision is usually done within 10 days after birth at the hospital nursery. It takes about 10
minutes to do. The baby will lie on his back and the foreskin will be removed by attaching a
Mogen or Gomco clamp to the penis. Ointment and gauze are then used to wrap the penis.
An injection with anesthetics or a cream for pain is used first. To distract the infant, sometimes
sugar water is also used. Research also shows that there may be a difference in pain when a
Mogen clamp is used instead of Gomco. These clamps are common tools used to hold the foreskin
away from the tip of the penis so that your doctor can make a neat cut and reduce any harm to the
head of the

Comparing Heroes In Forty Guns And Gran Torino
Walt Kowalski and Griff Bonnell are both seen as heroes in their separate films and this is why we
can compare the two of them. Even though they both can be seen as heroes, they are both two
totally different characters, however. Just because two characters have some of the same qualities,
does not mean that they are going to be similar throughout the whole movie. In both Forty Guns and
Gran Torino, we see the toughness of each character and their transformation to a compassionate
character throughout each movie due to each of their experiences then allowing them to fit in with
the WesternGenre of the film.
In Forty Guns we see Griff Bonnell working at the attorney general s office. He is on the lookout
for a man that was involved in a mail robbery. Griff is seen as a tough character because he
carried around a gun and shot it well. Although Griff does not seem like the one to start any
commotion, he definitely is one to intervene in it to stop other danger from happening.
Throughout all of Forty Guns, we do not see Griff actually kill anyone and we also come to find
out that he has not killed anyone in 10 years. Towards the end of the movie, we see Griff kill
Brockie and then Jessica and Griff ride off together. As they ride off together, we see Griff s

The Raven and Ligeia a comparison Essay
The Raven and Ligeia a comparison
Although the two tales are presented in different literary forms the tales themselves deal with
remarkably similar subject matter. So much so that it is possible to compare the style of each with
but a little reference to the general themes of the two works.
The Raven and Ligeia are both about loss. The narrators of both tales have lost the dearest thing to
them, a woman of incomparable talents and beauty. That the loss of this woman has happened for
different reasons does not matter for it is how this loss manifests itself in the lives of the narrators
that provide the drama and the poignancy of the stories. In each we discover the narrator is

abbey and even goes so far as to decorate his bedroom with the mortuary artefacts of several

fascinations take full root. Through the veils of an opiate stupor he begins to imagine some

current wife. And after the death he begins to imagine a reviving of the corpse where in the end
just as the dawn approaches he beholds his beloved Ligeia returned to him.
So it is that the main themes in both of these works are those of obsession, death and the guilt of
the survivor. How each approaches this and evokes the mood in the reader is remarkably different.
In Ligeia the narrator begins his tale in a crumbling city on the

he describes his departed love. He compares her with the goddesses of the

Enrichment In Zoos And Aquariums
Zoos and aquariums are some of the most fun and educational places to visit. However its rare to
see just how much care and work goes into keeping animals happy and healthy. The number one
goal for any zoo or aquarium should be the wellbeing of its inhabitants. With advancements in
research on enrichment and 3d printing in veterinary care, this field is taking steps to provide
animals with care even better than before. Enrichment is an incredibly important when it comes
to overall health and wellbeing of an animal. Enrichment is anything that provokes natural
behavior by mental or physical stimulus. This is common practice in most zoological facilities
and is primarily provided for mammals and birds. However recent research suggest that
enrichment could be beneficial for reptiles and amphibians. Reptiles and amphibians have been
stereotyped as rather simple minded with little personality and minimal care needs According to
Burghardt One study did formally study the effects of enrichment in altering the behavior of
yearling rat snakes (Pantherophis) (Almli and Burghardt, 2006). We used 16 snakes from two
clutches of eggs from both yellow ratsnakes and black ratsnakes. Half of each clutch were raised
with more complex environments with substrate for burrowing and branches for climbing and fed
live mice; the other half were raised in standard situations with dead prey, no climbing
opportunities, and a solid substrate. The sizes of the enclosures were the same for both groups.

The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace...
In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and
owners, to consider the working environments for those within the organization or company. The
unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and workplace satisfaction. There are
many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick is
finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular
workenvironment. Different methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter
of trial and error to find the right fit. There are employment laws in place to ensure fair work
practices occur however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their
business succeed. According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009),
responsibility rests with each employer to provide and promote a good and harmonious working
environment (p. 3). Making sure workers are happy can only have positive effects for the company
but it is a multistep process that requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up
with ways to increase worker satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and
making it come to life is the challenge and the greatest responsibility. For example, employers
creating a diverse environment can lessen feelings of discrimination. Any opportunity to represent
the workers best interest will always win their

In US, to turn something on there is an expectation of control movement up, to the right,
forward, or clockwise. The table below shows most common stereotypes: Redundancy The
reliability of a system can be improved through the introduction of redundancy in the system.
Some of the examples of redundancy in the operation are as below: Two or more workers need
to agree on certain action before the action is executed Two or more signals should be present
from the machine before a worker can take action. Feedback Feedback is one of the essential
aspect to detect faults in a system. In an industrial setting, the operator s task is to classify items
as good or faulty according to pre established criteria. Executing an action and receiving feedback
are two important variables affecting our ability to carry out continuous tasks. These are some
of the examples of feedback which every individual receives in their daily life: Bank Statement
Bills Receipts The design of feedback requires careful consideration. Major trends may be
obscured by minor variations if the grain size of the feedback is too small. Alternatively, the
patterning of feedback over time may be just too complex for the user to extract meaning from it.
If the grain size is too big or large, people may not be able to map the information in the feedback
onto specific behaviours amenable to self modifying.

This law is really good to me especially when I was in the US Navy reserved. The Uniformed
Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act is to protect the civilian employment of
active and reserve military personnel in the United States when called to active duty. These law
applies to all services in the military including reserved components. The USERRA clarifies that
when a service member of the armed forces was called to active duty, he or she will retain their
current job in the civilian sector and furthermore the position will be on hold until the service
member is back from their active duty (USERRA, 2016). I can personally say that this law is
good for service members who got activated especially for reservist personnel who were activated.
When I was activated for two months active duty while in the reservist, my employer assured me
that I will still get that position when I return from service. I felt reassured that I will keep my old
job when I return from my detachment.
The consequences for not complying with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
Rights Act will be dealt with the Department of Labor (USERRA, 2016). If found guilty, the
company would compensate the victim with court fees and compensate for any loss wages and
benefits. Once again, the company would also loss income and revenue and the trust of their
employee for unfair treatment.

According to Vickery (2001) however, the spinal board is considered to be the gold standard for
spinal immobilisation during the pre hospital phase of trauma management. For some patients,
effective spinal immobilisation is beneficial and can also be vital in preventing the devastating
effects of cord damage however it has been suggested that for many the excessive use of this
preventative measure may not be prudent or necessary. It has been estimated that over 50% of
trauma patients with no complaint of neck or back pain were transported with full spinal
immobilisation (McHugh Taylor 1998). Inappropriate spinal immobilisation may lead to patients
experiencing unnecessary pain, skin ulceration, aspiration and respiratory compromise, which in
turn may lead to further unnecessary procedures, a longer hospital stay which then incurs
increasing costs to the National Health Service (Kwan, Bunn Roberts, 2001). Shooman
Rushambuza (2009) report that immobilisation is a crucial part of the management of a trauma
patient. They believe that if the mechanism of injury is uncertain, the patient should remain
immobilised until further imaging even if there are no symptoms of spinal instability after log
rolling. However, in a recent study by Pandie, Shepherd Lamont (2010) they concluded that on its

Human Impact On Climate Change
The human race all around the world wonders if the climate is changing due to human activity or
if it is just a natural occurrence. At certain parts of the Earth s surface, the climate can be observed
much differently than other locations. As the years go by the average temperature of the Earth
increases by little intervals. There are several different reasons why people believe the climate is
changing every year. However, the increase of worldwide population and production of heat to the
atmosphereis due to the increase of human activities that take place on a daily basis. Human
activity is the main cause of the global climate change. The human impact on climate exceeds any
known changes due to natural processes. The impact of this human activity is often misunderstood
when looking at climate change. Scientists and experts from areas all over give their input on this
major world discussion. These experts all around the world have many different opinions on how
the climate is changing. Each opinion is supported by facts, models, or surveys from major
universities. The models allow scientists to simulate the behavior of climate and how natural and
human factors affect the climate. The 2013 Cook review of 11,944 peer reviewed studies on

Production in 1983 was 290 million composite barrels, and this was assumed to be constant until
1991 when the remaining 283 million barrels are produced. o Production costs were held
constant relative to the production amount, including depreciation due to the unit of production
method currently used by Gulf (Production will be the same, so depreciation amount will be the
same) o Because Gulf uses the LIFO method to account for inventory, it is assumed that new
reserves are expensed the same year that they are discovered and all other exploratory costs,
including geological and geophysical costs are charged against income as incurred. o Since
there will be no more exploration going forward, the only expenses that will be considered are
the costs involved with production to deplete the reserves. o The price of oil was not expected to
rise in the next ten years, and since inflation affects both the selling price of oil and the cost of

expenses determined the cash flows for years 1984 1991. The cash flows cease in 1991 after all
oil and gas reserves are liquidated. The cash flows derived account for the liquidation of the oil

corn syrup, due to the special dietary restrictions for observant Jews. Some Orthodox Jews do
not consume corn during the holiday. Bottled with yellow caps, this variant can be found in
some areas of the US around April.[10] Risks arising from over consumption[edit] In the
February 2010 death of a 31 year old New Zealand woman, the coroner concluded were it not for
the consumption of very large quantities of Coke by Natasha Harris, it is unlikely that she
would have died when she died and how she died ; Harris was found to have suffered from
hypokalemia and had an enlarged liver, and deposits of fat within the liver, which pathologist Dr
Dan Mornin attributed to the consumption of excessive amounts of sugar . Christopher
Hodgkinson, the long term partner of Harris, estimated Natasha consumed four 2.25 litre bottles
of Coke a day [and drank] no other beverage. [11] India secret formula ban[edit] Coca Cola was
India s leading soft drink until 1977 when it left India after a new government ordered the
company to turn over its secret formula for Coca Cola and dilute its stake in its Indian unit as
required by the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).[12] In 1993, the company (along with

Aging Population Research Paper
The aging population has increasing and decreasing effects on health care today. Some effects are
minor and some are major. They all are transforming, or eventually going to transform, health care.
Some increasing effects that the aging population has made on health care today are obesity, falls,
financial demands caused by the baby boomer era, and life expectancy. A decreasing effect that the
agingpopulationhas made on health care today is the prevalence of disability. There are many
other diseases and conditions also that can cause health care to change or cause health care costs,
rates, etc. increase over time. Life expectancy has been a transforming factor on health care today.
It is believed by many that the elderly population s rapid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some reasons why people with disabilities do not receive the care they need are because of the
cost of the health services that would be provided and the transportation to the health care
facility. Not all elderly still have a license so it is challenging for them to get to their
appointments or get into the Emergency Room as soon as they possibly can. There is also a
limited availability of health care services that can be provided to the patients with disabilities.
There are some hospitals and health care centers that are unable to provide the medical equipment
and other physical assets such as narrow doorways, steps and no elevators, inadequate bathrooms,
and inaccessible parking areas. These hospitals and caring centers that lacks these specific assets
make the elderly worried that they have nowhere to go, which can bring on another issue such as
depression or anxiety. Then, the hospital or caring center would have to treat the issue, causing an
increase in costs and bills towards the

Many have started to start rapping in order to succeed all those things. Teens today think that having
wealth as to having nice things think that is what only matters. Teens become very materialistic.
According to a CSUN student in california, says, Today, the idea of materialism in Hip Hop music
and music videos is more than ever present. Current Hip Hop artist, often have lucrative lifestyles
(with fancy cars, money everywhere, and gold chains, for example) going on in their song themes
that is meant to reflect their success in the music industry. Children and teens from all ages see
and hear this with awe and imitation in mind, which usually leads them to confuse reality with
fantasies (CSUN 2015). Being to materialistic can be disappointing for teens when they see it is
hard to have those things if you are not an artist. Teens are not happy with what they have and lose
happiness to what is really important in

Argument Of Galileo Dialogue Summary
Galileo s Dialogue on the Two Chief World Systems uses powerful logic and simply described
concepts to overcome the Aristotelian bias of the populous and argue in favor of Copernicus
heliocentric view of the universe. Copernicus theorized that the earth, along with the other planets
in the sky, is in motion around the sun. The Aristotelian s geocentric worldview, that the earth is the
motionless center of the universe, was deeply ingrained into the minds of the people and the
teachings of the church. Galileo s argument had to be not only incisive and logical to have any
sway, but it also had to avoid offending or denying the ancient principles of thought proposed by
Aristotle. He walked this delicate line between educating the public and... Show more content on

In parroting the principles of Aristotle, they do not notice how much damage they do to his
reputation, how much discredit they bring him, and how much they diminish his authority instead
of increasing it (199). These men take Aristotle s good name and drag it through the mud by
claiming that every one of his sayings is absolute truth, rather than the best possible hypothesis he
could have made with his level of technology. By undermining the arguments of his opponents in
this way, Galileo frees himself up to defer to Aristotle s logical principles without invoking
quotations of his conclusions.
While Galileo holds little respect for those who take Aristotle s theories at face value, he shows no
lack of respect for the great philosopher himself. Galileo applauds the fact that Aristotle s works are
examined and closely studied, and only blame(s) submitting to him in such a way that one blindly
subscribes to all his assertions and accepts them as unquestionable dictates (200). Galileo s
arguments for heliocentrism would convince any layman of their truth, but his opponents are so set
in their ways that they would be unwilling to even listen to his concepts. When an opponent relies
on ancient words and does not use ration to come to their beliefs, it is impossible to use ration to
convince them otherwise. Galileo, in his effort to contest what his opponents consider incontestable,

discipline him by making him take ice baths and sleeping outside. He said his father was both
physically abusive and emotionally distant. He also described his dad as both harsh and

frustration over his wife s infidelity. Mr. House describes his mother very differently, describing her
as both loving and enabling.

Berlin Wall Research Paper
On August 13, 1961, the Communist government of Germany began to build a barbed wire and
concrete wall between East and West Berlin. The purpose of the Berlin Wall was to keep the
Western extremist from entering East Germany.
The Partitioning of Berlin
As World War II was ending in 1945, the territories owned by Germany were being divided. Once
it was split, the nation was sectioned into four zones. The east of the country went to the Soviet
Union, while the west went to the Allies. Even though Berlin was located in the Soviet part of the
country, two agreements known as Yalta and Potsdam, split the city into sections.
Crisis in Berlin
The existence of West Berlin, which was thought to be a capitalist city deep within the government
that made the Soviet Union very upset since they were trying to drive the United States, Britain,
and France out of the city. In 1948, the Soviet Union tried to starve the Allies out of West Berlin.

Even with the construction of the Berlin Wall, the flood of refugees did not stop from either side.
Over time, Eastern officials replaced the makeshift wall with one that was much more difficult
to scale. The new wall was reinforced with concrete and had been topped with an massive pipe
that made climbing over nearly impossible. Behind the wall on the Eastern side was a called the
Death Strip. There was soft sand, meant to show footprints and slow them down, trip wire
machine guns, floodlights, well trained dogs, and soldiers with orders to execute any escapees
on sight. At least 170 people were killed trying to get to the other side of the Berlin Wall. Though
it was difficult to escape it was possible, from 1961 to when the wall came down more than 5,000
people managed to cross the border in many ways including, climbing over the barbed wire the
sewers, crawling through, and flying in hot air

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person, including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. Plants that are propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages. Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA (Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, researchers remove a mature somatic cell, such as a skin cell, from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Health Care Reflection The patient I cared for today, was admitted into the NICU on October 17th. He was experiencing respiratory distress, has breathed (aspirated) meconium into the lungs around the time of birth. The neonate had stabilized, so the nurse and I were preparing for the family to discharge from the hospital. The immediate needs that were verbalized by the patient were hunger cries and soiled diaper/ angry cries. Immediate needs from the family were instruction on how much formula to feed the baby and circumcision care once discharged home. During my clinical experience, the patient experienced pain from the circumcision process. The healthcare team members alleviated the physical suffering by administrating lidocaine pain medication and giving the baby sugar water. I think the only improvement that I would make to these interventions would be to administer the lidocaine earlier so that it could be more effective in the patient s pain management. Long term needs for the patient were speech therapy in order to improve the baby s feeding technique, infection prevention, and teaching measures for the parents. The needs could be met through referral to a speech therapist upon discharge from the hospital, teaching family members proper handwashing, and educating parents on subject matters. The healthcare team interacted with the patient and family in an excellent fashion. They utilized the teach back method when educating parents about infant care, used compassionate care, and used open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Socrates Vs Plato Dualism Morals, as defined by The Merriam Webster dictionary, stands for of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior . You can see the evidence of morals in every activity, choosing to be honest or to lie, possessing respect or showing contempt, exhibiting kindness or inconsideration, all are examples of moral code. Many may argue that there is dualism in the world, two opposing principles, either good or evil, and others may take the stance of monism, stating that it is only necessary to choose one theory for your moral decision making. Well there are many morality perspectives we could look at I will narrow it down to Platos theory of morality, which was one people always will do what is right when they know what is right.... I know that people do the wrong thing even if they know what is right because of greed. • 5. The Jersey Shore After Hurricane Sandy As you all know the Jersey Shore took a beating after Hurricane Sandy. Our two houses survived for the most part, but being there after the destruction, hit me in a way I never thought about before. I felt in my heart that I was getting a glimpse into what an adopted child feels all through their transition. Today I was thinking about the day I spent down there waiting for the gas man to come. Let me explain... Since all power, gas and water had been shut down for some time we had to get everything working again. As I sat in that 44 degree house waiting for the gas man to get everything up and running, I got a glimpse out the window. I saw two ducks floating in the lagoon with garbage all around them and I started to take it all in for the first time since that October day had changed everything down there. It was a symbol of the past and the present coming together. There we were in a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before the storm hit I was there with a bunch of friends enjoying my world and my life and this house saw so much laughter, fun and good friends come together. It was alive! All summer long we were down there enjoying our New House. It was new because Hurricane Irene had ruined the one that stood there before. This New House was only eight months old and at that moment, as I stood there being one of the few that came away unscathed, I looked out into the night. It was just starting to get dark, the houses around me and across from me all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Integration Of The European Union Modern culture commonly exceeds the boundaries of individual nation states through processes such as globalisation, improvement in technologies and the rise in free trade; leading to the concept of transnationalism (Waldinger, 2013). Transnationalism involves interactions linking people or institutions across the borders of many nation states (Crang et al, 2003). Transnationalism is intrinsically linked to mobility; mobility is the ongoing and continuous cross border movements in which people develop and maintain economic, social and cultural links in more than one nation, mobility (this sentence is too long but I m not sure how to change it so it still makes sense) facilitates transnationalism with enables Europeanisation (Ernste, 2009).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, integration allows Europe to increase their economic output, because as Hansen and Jonsson (2014) argue West Europe lacks the natural resources necessary to become a viable economic power to compete globally. The Schengen agreement of 1995 therefore facilitates trade, transnationalism and Europeanisation because it enables workers, particularly lorry drivers, to move easily across the continent. Medrano (2012) argues that integration processes are difficult because of the diversity within the EU, the rise of Euroscepticism, and the shift in the balance of power of national institutions from domestic parliaments to a European parliament. Fligstein (2012) mentions that in 2004 only 3.9 per cent of people who lived in Europe viewed themselves as European, this is very damning in suggesting that the processes of EU integration have failed because no one identifies themselves as European. Raunio (2011) also echoes this sentiment; he comments that national governments are the gatekeepers of EU integration; however, the consistent enlargement of the EU has made this task more difficult, leading to the conclusion that integration has resulted in the loss of control that domestic governments have over their decisions ... • 7. Unit 2 Assignment 1 Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity Cellular Structures and Pathogenicity Jennifer L. Wethington ITT Technical Institute Unit 2 Assignment 1 Bacterial illness is a result of complex interactions between bacteria and the host. During evolution, humans developed many ways to protect themselves against bacterial pathogens. On the other hand, bacteria have developed strategies to evade, subvert or circumvent these defenses (Sousa, 2003) One of the most important characteristics of bacterial pathogenicity is the various strategies developed by prokaryotic organisms to use host molecules for their own benefit (Sousa, 2003). To accomplish this, bacteria have evolved elaborate control mechanisms to turn genes on and off, varying the transcriptional activator or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the initial phase of infection, environmental strains of P. aeruginosa from any aqueous setting are inadvertently inhaled or otherwise delivered to the upper respiratory tract (Feldman, et al., 1998). It is at this stage where the expression of functional flagella is critical, providing chemotaxis toward desirable substrates, such as mucin, and the motility essential for widespread dissemination (Feldman, et al., 1998). In the normal host, the presence of defenses and additional antimicrobial peptides, the affinity of flagella components for mucin glycopeptides, and the process of mucociliary clearance are likely to eradicate such transiently inhaled organisms from the respiratory tract before any epithelial immune response is elicited (Feldman, et al., 1998). While motility is commonplace among the prokaryotes, it is important to note the variety of structures responsible for motility. These structures vary depending not only on the organism in question, but also on the particular environment (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Study of the bacterial flagellum has provided insights into many aspects of prokaryotic cellular activities including genetics and regulation, physiology, environmental sensing, protein secretion and assembly of complex structures (Bardy, Ng, Jarrell, 2003). Continued study of all prokaryotic motility structures will provide knowledge that is likely to reach far beyond the topic of motility and pathogenicity (Bardy, Ng, ... • 8. Greenwashing in Media Essay Research ProjectGreenwashing in MediaIn this day and age companies have mastered the technique of misleading customers by fabricating false claims about a green product or service that they swear to provide. This insincere display of information is called Greenwashing , a spin off of Whitewashing . Greenwashing could be said to be a global phenomenon and it s commonly seen in advertisements, on products packing, websites, emails, speeches, and videos (just to name a few). Greenwashing is a thought out process, a planned and typically well designed campaign. On your weekly trip to the supermarket it s easy to find a number of products, from coffee to dishwashing soap, that flaunt their green attributes (American Psychological Association, 2010). With such rumors of greenwashing, consumers are more confused than ever. However, some consumers know the tricks and are coming to find that there are companies whose marketing practices are legit, not exaggerated or deceiving. APA also found that, people are willing to spend more of their hard earned green on green products, according to a 2008 survey of 9,000 adults performed by the global business firm Boston Consulting Group (American Psychological Association, 2010). Consumers who are willing to pay more for a product or service are assuming that they are purchasing a healthier, safer, and better quality product or service for the environment. Unfortunately there are consequences that arise when a consumer has been greenwashed. These consequences are that consumers ultimately spend more money on products that they believe stand true, and when purchasing these products the consumer is supporting companies that are harming the environment. Ivan Denisovich Answers The author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn throughout the book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich brings up the question of how to make life meaningful, in this case, in the darkest circumstances. Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the main character, lives a normal day in his life of suffering prisoner to a gulag camp. The book offers interpretations that leads to answers to the central question mentioned previously. Answers vary from making meaning in life by being unique and standing out as an individual, meeting people in which to bond and live with, and coming to terms with one s circumstances in life. Shukhov is a prime example in which case he is unchanged by the camp, he keeps strict morals and has a specific code of ethics all the while braving through the heinous gulag camp. The storyteller states, At five o clock that morning reveille was sounded [...] The clanging ceased, but everything outside still looked like the middle of the night when ivan Denisovich Shukhov got up to go to the bucket [...] He always got up at once, for the next ninety minutes, until they assembled for work (Solzhenitsyn 6), this statement of Shukhov s actions would prove how he lived with a purpose and went straight to work. Shukhov wakes earlier than the rest then works hard and relentlessly, by being strong in this case and coming to terms with how his life is currently he continues as if everything is normal and just focuses on doing what he can, which is working hard. If people are stuck on the negative aspects of life and how they are powerless to some things it overall creates a pessimistic view which makes life worse in quality. By accepting everything Shukhov focuses on what is possible and strives after working hard which makes his life leaps and bounds more enthusiastic than someone who dwells on the unalterable, gloomy parts of existence. The prisoners use the harsh conditions of the gulag camp as a way to strengthen themselves, the spectator mentions, and the longer he spent at the camp the stronger he made himself (Solzhenitsyn 56). Roosevelt came into office with a bold plan and acted on it swiftly, providing jobs and relief for those in need. Over the next eight years, the government instituted a series of experimental projects and programs, known collectively as the New Deal, that aimed to restore some measure of dignity and prosperity to many Americans. More than that, Roosevelt s New Deal permanently changed the federal government s relationship to the U.S. populace. The New Deal consisted of a number of government funded programs. For my purpose though, I want to focus on the Bank Act of 1933. The Bill was sponsored by Sen. Carter Glass (D VA) and Rep. Henry Steagall (D AL) and signed into law by Roosevelt in 1933. This policy change set up the banking industry for a successful recovery and a strong future. The Bank Act of 1933 contained many goals. One of the most crucial successes of this law was that commercial banking and investment banking were now completely separate. This interaction had been a problem due to overlap in business practices that weren t morally right. Another system of value that came from this act was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporationor FDIC, as many of us know it today. What the FDIC does is insure deposits up to a certain amount. This was great for the clients of the bank and brought back a sense of security among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Frost, By Robert Frost Robert Frost, an indigenous New England poet, is deserving of an ovation for his contributions and magnitude in American Literature. Frost advises his readers to be actively engaged in questioning the world we inhabit (49, Dickstein). In most of Frost s work, readers and critics enjoy his choices of theme, likely being the outdoors and his surroundings. By using emotions recollected in tranquility and his organic and inviolable relationship with his countryside, he celebrates New Englands natural beauty throughout his literature using simple and accessible idioms. Edward Garnett once predicted that Frost was destined to take a permanent place in American Literature which he unquestionably has (40 49). James S. Wilson praised Frost for his abiding humanity and the honesty of his portrayals of people and situations, an honesty that disguises the inherent passion of his work. Like previously mentioned, Frost s themes were often what caught the attention of many. As Morris Dickstein explained in Critical Insights Robert Frost, the core themes were established early on and have remained constant focal points up to the present, though revised and elaborated upon over time (40). Prior to Frost s pursuit of poetry, he had worked on a farm. Having done that, he had many hours on the land, with time to appreciate the green colors and natural sounds and beauty. Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville Bartleby, the Scrivener is an interesting short story written by Herman Melville for Putnam s magazine at a time when Melville was in need for money (Davis 183). The narrator opens with a description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon after, the narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the namesake of the story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he started off copying as desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him; how he was eventually fired but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how he was put into prison; and how he died of starvation while incarcerated. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led toward a realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this realization has to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical ideals, or, in other words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the protagonist of a story is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can thereby deduce that the lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the implication that the lawyer is the protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this truly is the case. Notably, we cannot possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe himself because we only know of the lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that although Bartleby is the main focus of the narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally, Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife, and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact, Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader, like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, along with choosing not to rest long enough in York to travel back down with the army he had fought at Stamford Bridge with, Harold had succeeded in alienating many of the men that had constituted this army with his refusal not to split the treasure gained from the decimation of the Norwegians. This decision probably had some merit in the circumstances of the time. It is entirely possible that the gold was needed for the war against Normandy or that the booty was in the form of boats which Harold intended to use in combat. Nonetheless, Harold s pronouncement caused outright desertion in the troops. Secondly, despite the long stay of William s fleet at Dives and England s superior ship fleet Harold attempted none of Drake s tactics and failed to singe William s beard. Perhaps most importantly when one considers Harold s tactical errors was his removal of the Hastings force. After the sighting of Halley s Comet Harold had gathered a huge force, with the threat of Harald Hardrada some of these men, including the Hastings guard, had been redeployed. • 43. Argument Of Galileo Dialogue Summary Galileo s Dialogue on the Two Chief World Systems uses powerful logic and simply described concepts to overcome the Aristotelian bias of the populous and argue in favor of Copernicus heliocentric view of the universe. Copernicus theorized that the earth, along with the other planets in the sky, is in motion around the sun. The Aristotelian s geocentric worldview, that the earth is the motionless center of the universe, was deeply ingrained into the minds of the people and the teachings of the church. Galileo s argument had to be not only incisive and logical to have any sway, but it also had to avoid offending or denying the ancient principles of thought proposed by Aristotle. He walked this delicate line between educating the public and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In parroting the principles of Aristotle, they do not notice how much damage they do to his reputation, how much discredit they bring him, and how much they diminish his authority instead of increasing it (199). These men take Aristotle s good name and drag it through the mud by claiming that every one of his sayings is absolute truth, rather than the best possible hypothesis he could have made with his level of technology. By undermining the arguments of his opponents in this way, Galileo frees himself up to defer to Aristotle s logical principles without invoking quotations of his conclusions. While Galileo holds little respect for those who take Aristotle s theories at face value, he shows no lack of respect for the great philosopher himself. Galileo applauds the fact that Aristotle s works are examined and closely studied, and only blame(s) submitting to him in such a way that one blindly subscribes to all his assertions and accepts them as unquestionable dictates (200). Galileo s arguments for heliocentrism would convince any layman of their truth, but his opponents are so set in their ways that they would be unwilling to even listen to his concepts. When an opponent relies on ancient words and does not use ration to come to their beliefs, it is impossible to use ration to convince them otherwise. Galileo, in his effort to contest what his opponents consider incontestable, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
