Short Story Chapter 2
There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the
impending dusk transforming the western sky from faded blue to an artist s palette of muted pink and
orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their teenage
attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. However, despite his outwardly composed
appearance, Tom was anything but calm. His eyes scanned the street, searching for any sign of their
suspect. Tyrell Carson was an unknown quantity, and therefore, he needed to stay alert and not
become too complacent. While Booker had voiced a certain amount of skepticism, Tom knew all too
well the dangers of dealing with teenage felons, and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But first, they needed to infiltrate the gang, and to do so, they needed to play it cool or risk detection.
Hey, fellas, Tyrell greeted. I wasn t sure you d show. Nice of you not to keep me waiting.
Tom stepped forward, the right corner of his upper lip curling into a sneer. Yeah? Well, when we re
talking about money, we re always punctual. Right, Brady?
Right, Booker confirmed, his tough guy mask showing little emotion. He was happy to let Tom take
the lead, especially if it helped bolster his confidence. He trusted the young officer s abilities, and
there was no point in them both fighting for the dominant role.
Tyrell nodded at the two teens by his side. This is Seth and Joel, he introduced. They re friends of
mine.
Don t care, Tom replied in a bored voice. Let s get down to business.
A wide grin spread across Tyrell s face. So far, McQuaid and Brady were living up to their reputations,
and he mentally started to visualize all the cool things he could buy with the extra money he would
make after recruiting the two misfits. But first they had to pass the test, and with a twitch of his head,
he turned and walked toward the back of the building. Follow me.
Tom and Dennis trailed behind the teen, their muscles tensed in readiness. Seth and Joel brought up
the rear, their heads bowed together in deep conversation. Their voices

Persuasive Essay On Prejudice And Discrimination
When someone thinks of the word prejudice, he or she might think the word only refers to racial
prejudice between those of different skin colors or looks. However, that is not the case. Prejudice goes
deeper than that. Prejudices and stereotypes are usually negative thoughts or beliefs that people place
on each other based on differences, such as religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, gender, or
geographic location. Recently, Muslims have been a huge target for prejudice and discrimination. Ever
since the incident of 9/11, when a terrorist group purposely crashed planes into the World Trade
Center, Muslims have never been treated the same. That is reflected with the introduction of various
bills and legislation, the implementation of stricter immigration laws, and the addition of stricter
airport laws policies. Although I do think we can reduce the amount of prejudice in our societies
among Muslims, I do not believe that prejudice and discrimination will ever completely go away.
Islamophobia, the irrational fear or dislike against Islam or Muslims, very much existed before the
9/11 attacks; however, it increased drastically across the world after that horrible incident. Due to the
increase of national fear in the United States after the attacks, immigration laws became much stricter.
One author states that these laws were put into place by the USA Patriot Act, the Enhanced Border
Security and Visa Entry Reform Act, and many others (Villemez, 2). According to

Victim Blaming Definition
When a crime is committeed, there are always at least two individuals involved. There is the person
committing the crime and the person who is the victim of the crime. For most crimes there is no
debate who is the cause of the offense, the criminal. If a robber breaks into someone s house and steals
something, never is the house owner blamed for the incident. Why then is there a difference whem it
comes to rape? This is exactly what students of Utrecht University wanted to answer and how to
change it.
The student s hypothesis is that victim blaming can be significantly reduced when people mimic the
behavior of the victim or even a person unrelated to the crime. Victim blaming is a phenomenon that
occurs when someone who is rapped is believed to be at fault for the incident. Some believes this ...

This can be overt by how the person acts and talks or this can be covert by how the person thinks. It is
rather difficult to assess mimicry on the covert scale so for this study overt mimicry was only
assessed. To properly prove mimicry promotes empathy the researchers preformed two studies. The
first study involved 15 students that were blind to the purpose of the study. They watched a video of a
woman talking about her classes. While this was happening researchers watched the audience s
behavior and recorded the times an individual copied the woman s behavior. At the end of the video
the participants read a scenario where a woman was rape. After they finished reading they were
informed the woman in the scenario is the same as the woman in the video. With this knowledge they
were asked to complete a survey to determine how much the woman was at fault for being raped. The
results showed that the more an individual mimicked the woman the less they blamed her for the being
raped. Also though this study already proves mimicry promotes empathy, the researchers wanted to do
a second study to see if this can be

The blood film and the background information considering their recent travel to Nigeria leads us to
believe this infection present in this patient is a form of malaria. The blood film provided for the
patient shows some morphological changes to erythrocytes as well as the malarial parasite which is
present.
Malaria is a vector borne infectious disease which contains 5 subspecies, of which Plasmodium ovale
is the most likely culprit in this case study. The species of malaria can be distinguished between by
thin blood films and analysing haematological abnormalities present, such as in plasmodium
falciparum infection no change occurs to erythrocyte shape and size whereas in P. ovale infection
erythrocytes are usually slightly enlarged, frequently an oval shape and often have fimbriated edges

Thrombocytopenia is commonly associated with leukaemia patients due to the dysfunctional bone
marrow and can result in easy bruising as their blood vessels when damaged will bleed however due
to the decreased platelet level they are unable to clot the bleeding and thus leads to bruising. The
patient s other symptom of severe malaise may also be linked to the leukaemia and anaemia, due to
the high proliferative rate of lymphoblasts in acute leukaemia, this can lead to less space for
erythrocyte development which causes normocytic anaemia commonly seen in patients with
leukaemia (Moore, Knight and Blann, 2016).
Leukaemias are disorders which are characterised by accumulation of white blood cells in bone
marrow or in blood. This is a result of haematopoiesis which is the mechanism of action for
production of blood cells from a progenitor however in the case of leukaemia an uncontrolled
proliferation occurs which is responsible for the sheer volume of leucocytes present in peripheral

Strategies In The Battle Of Agincourt
The Battle of Agincourt is known as one of the greatest because of the circumstances surrounding it.
Arguably, it is among the most distinguished battle wins of the English because nobody expected them
to defeat the French. The reason was that the French army had four times more troops than it did, and
everyone expected it to lose because of this. However, there are a number of factors that were at play
that surpassed the numbers the French had and necessitated the English win. Such factors had to do
with the strategies that were employed by the English, the conditions at the battlefield, and, most
importantly, the leadership in place. It is true that history is written by the victors. While it is
commonly agreed that the French army heavily outnumbered the English, the exact numbers are open
to debate. Undoubtedly, as the years passed and Agincourt became the perfect never give up example,
it is quite possible that the numbers advantage the French had wasn t as large as initially seen. Anne
Curry, in her book Agincourt: A New History, maintains that the actual advantage the French had was
roughly 12,000 to 9,000, rather than the 4:1 ratio most historians argue for (Curry 192). If this is ...

The gear was especially a burden in the hand to hand combat because it prevented the French from
doing anything. They could not match the speed that the less armored Englishmen had, which thus
prompted their lack of effectiveness. The dressing doubled the energy that the French used in the
battlefield and is actually said to be among the most significant contributors to their loss. The
muddiness, as mentioned above, made the match to the battlefield quite cumbersome to the French. As
such, they were already tired by the time they reached the place for the actual battle, which made them

Divergent Plates Are Formed From Plate Tectonic Plates
I know that mountains are created from plate tectonics. Convergent plates are made out of the
lithosphere. The lithosphere is the rocky outer part of Earth containing the crust (the thin layer of rock
under the land) and the mantle (a layer of mostly silicate rock that is directly under the crust).
Convergent plates are tectonic plates that collide and scrape against each other to form geological
features such as mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes form when one convergent plate
slides under another one, causing a subduction zone. A subduction zone is a geological process that
takes place at a convergent plate boundary. One plate moves under the other and is forced to sink
because of the gravity in the mantle. When this happens, molten rock (lava) is forced to the surface.
This causes volcanoes to form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mountains can also form when convergent plates smash into each other. Furthermore, stream erosion
made a path for the river that runs through the Rocky Mountains. I can infer that water collected on
the ground and then slowly trickled down a slope, carrying rock and sediments away with it.
Overtime, more and more rain/water collected in the stream which made it grow wider. Now, a long,
wide, and deep river has formed. Finally, I can see where abrasion could have made the bottom of the
mountains smooth and curved. I think that pieces of rock could have fallen off some of the mountains
in the Rocky Mountain Range (maybe due to ice wedging). When they fall, they rub on the base of the
mountains. This chips part of the rock off and smooths it

Ethics- Do the Right Thing
1. Spike Lee intended us to conclude that violence is not an answer for any problems. In this case, the
character, Da Mayor, would be a classic example of how problems should have been solved. He could
have intended us to conclude that by resorting to violence in any situation, the consequences that we
would have to face will not be very favourable and it could lead to more problems instead of solving
the current situation. It is always better to nip the problem from the bud, instead of letting it grow and
allowing it to torment everyone. 2. In moral subjectivism context, Mookie did the right thing, as he

there can be different moral rules for different ethnic and cultural group. Different ethnic and cultural
groups are from different roots and upbringing. Therefore it is natural for each group to have their own
set of rules and belief. The trick is to accept each and other s differences and learn to respect and live
along with it, instead of disrespecting and discriminating. However amidst all these, there can be a
universal moral code among everyone, to allow everybody to have a common ground to mingle with.
6. In this movie, Spike Lee does present some of his characters as stereotypes. For example, Pino in
this movie, is a staunch Italian who dislikes living in the neighbourhood where the majority are
blacks. He cannot bring himself to embrace the blacks and their way of life in the neighbourhood.
Most of his characters are usually stereotypical against other ethnicity in the neighbourhood. However
he does have characters, such as Da Mayor, who embraces and accepts everybody as they are. Spike
Lee could have presented his characters in such a manner to portray to the general public, the reality
of living in a multicultural neighbourhood. He might

The Meltdown of Chernobyl Essay
Have you ever thought of what would happen to you if there was a nuclear bomb that blew up near

This diagram is the layout of Reactors compartment three and four were at the Chernobyl Nuclear

Before the disaster Chernobyl was rated one of the safest nuclear power stations. Three months before
the explosion the Soviet official said, the odds of a meltdown occurring at Chernobyl are 1 in 10,000
years. Before the accident the government staff that investigated the plant found out that there were
several accidents and emergency shutdowns.
The day of the explosion the reactor had reached one hundred and twenty times its full power. The
radioactive fuel was disintegrated and the pressure from the entire overload of the steam which was
supposed to go to the turbines broke, and every one of the pressure tubes had blew off the entire top
shield of the reactor. The reason this happened like it did was because the graphite moderated RBMK
reactor that blew up was designed very poorly. This was said because the scram button was supposed
to smother the reaction by dropping control rods into the atomic pile. But instead it accelerated the

Middle Ages Research Paper
The history of the modern world stems from the middle Ages. The middle ages were actually a bridge
connecting the classical and modern world. The middle Ages might not have been magnificent, but
rather the period of itself was a prime establishment of the modern world s newly discovered
dependability, a restoration of the law and teachings from the classical era, a reinvestment and change
in the church, and an antecedent to the golden age. The scientific and technological advances,
religious changes, and the amendments to government, helped transition the Middle Ages into the

The idea of the king and his kingdom were bound by to a higher law became a vital element during
the modern age. The Christians promoted this theory which influence Western Civilization. The
commandment love thy neighbor has impacted modern reform movements in ways Philosophers
would ve never imagined.
Feudalism was the largest component in the transition from the middle Ages to the Modern Era. It
allowed the townspeople to feel secure that they were being treated equally. The idea of Feudalism
stated law should not be imposed by an absolute monarch, but that the kings and his people should be
bound by the law and if it is violated, the lords have the power to resist the monarch. This led to the
emergence of the English parliament, which stated the King had to consult Parliament before making
any decisions that could affect government or the well being of the people.
Religion was the most important component of the middle Ages, while technology and science led the
Modern Era. The middle Ages believed Religion set the standards from every day life. Philosophers
believed in order to understand anything, it was necessary to have a relationship with God. The
Modern world finds it unbelievable anyone could ever disagree with science due to politics,

A Dictatorship In The Congo Research Paper
Mobutu made major changes to the Congo by creating a dictatorship, all of which came about out of
fear of another person or foreign government taking his power (Duignan, 138). For example, Mobutu

official came to power in 1965, the Congo s economy began to do much better. Mobutu had created
new policies like the economic stabilization in 1967, reforming the twenty one provinces back in to

The Sandman By E. T. A Literary Analysis
The perplexing short story, The Sandman by E.T.A. Hoffman, conveys an unsettling dark tale about a
man struggling with the effect of a traumatic childhood experience. Hoffman delivers an imaginatively
chilling portrayal of the looming consequences adolescent perception can have on adult life. Studies
have shown that childhood trauma may harmfully affect the brain structure and cause children to be at
risk for psychiatric disorders later in life (Bergeron 1). Similarly, this idea is shown in Hoffman s tale
as the main character Nathaniel plunges repeatedly into despair and madness because of the fear
introduced in his youth. Although childhood fears may not always be grounded in reality,
overwhelming conditions could have a negative impact on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nathaniel, who enjoyed the moments before bed in the company of his father, associated the Sandman
with the unwelcoming separation from his father. Soon after, his sister s nanny teasingly tells of a
darker story about the wicked Sandman, who gouges the eyes out of children who will not go to sleep,
feeding their eyes to his own kids (Hoffman 2). Furthermore, his own imaginings about the Sandman
continued to grow strong. Nathaniel s fear grew more intense when he believes his father is murdered
by Coppelius, whom he believes to be the evil Sandman. Expressively, Hoffman s story illustrates the
power of perception and the dangers of subtle progression. Imposing threats help to create harmful
visualizations. Children are especially taunted by fears and environmental influences and may silently
cope with things they do not fully understand.
Clara is disturbed after she reads the letter meant her brother Lothaire. For this reason, she replies to
Nathaniel to eagerly express her astute insight and discerning opinion into the probable cause of
Nathaniel s affliction; his memories had not been real, but merely misguided by his own imagination
(Hoffman 7 9). The influence of an individual s thought life and belief system can severely disrupt life
and relationships. For instance, when Nathaniel believed that

The Kenyon Commencement Speech By David Foster Wallace
I believe that existence is comprised of hundreds and millions of different realities intermingling and
colliding into one another. I also believe that at the center of each reality there lies the individual who
crafted it. Our perception of what is real and false exists solely in our own minds, and our minds are
what determines the lense in which we perceive the world. Our perception is largely influenced by our
psyche; how we live and think stems from our perception of the world. Our brains are directly
influenced by a number of key factors, including but not limited to; societal connotations, individual
experience, instinctual desires, environmental factors, and cognitive thought. These factors, as well as
other conditions, are what determine our default setting. In his noteable This is Water speech, given at
the 2005 Kenyon Commencement Address, David Foster Wallace argues a similar idea as he explains
his take on the phrase teaching you how to think . Through his use of relatable parables and anecdotes
and repetition and reverent focus of words like choice and awareness he paints a livid picture of the
use of conscious choice in our daily lives. He stresses the concept of a self centered default setting that
comes from an individual s blind certainty and the repercussions that deferring to that default can have
on an individual s lifestyle and fulfilment. If we are unable to recognise the water in which we dwell
we will always remain unaware, stuck in an

Research on the Communicative Skills of Dogs
We all learn from one another and wolves, like dogs, can learn from us as well. Dogs are more skillful
than great apes at a number of tasks in which they must read human communicative signals like
indicating the location of hidden food. However, the main objective of these studies was to determine
whether the skills that dog have today have arisen from the hundreds of years of domestication and co
evolution with humans, or if these were already in their genes from their wolf ancestors (Bates 2013).
The modern wolf comes from a long history of canines, which have adapted to survive in many
different environments. They adapt their diet to the food that is available where younger wolves watch
and learn from the other members of the pack, a behavior commonly known as cultural transmission.
The alpha wolves order the others on where to go, when to hunt and where to make a den. Wolves like
dogs act upon orders.
Genetic and archaeological evidence shows that humans domesticated wolves on more than one
occasion. Domesticated wolves provided early humans with a guard animal, a source of food, fur, and
a beast of burden. The process continues to this day, with the intentional artificial selection and
crossbreeding of dogs to create new breeds. The objective of these studies was to answer the question
whether their roots were present before dogs became man s best friend or not? Friederike Range and

Recruiting In Michael Lewis Moneyball
That s why you play the game is a saying my grandpa likes to use whenever there is an upset or an
unexpected outcome. In the novel Moneyball by Michael Lewis, the Oakland Athletics baseball team
has had a tremendous season. Their manager, Billy Beane, discovered a new way to recruit players.
Beane believed that this new way of recruiting can not only be used in baseball, but in all sports.
Lewis demonstrated the argument of Beane s new way of recruiting when he implemented stories of
amature or rookie players who became successes. The argument stated by Lewis is that in order to
build the best team possible, you have to follow Beane s way of recruiting that uses mathematics.
Beane himself was a professional ball player; right out of high school, he signed with the New York
Mets. As time went on and new recruits joined the team, Billy felt that he had lost his talent and he
became discouraged. After he lost all of his confidence, he became a talent scout for the Oakland A s.

who matched his talent, he found multiple players who could complete Giambi s job for less money.
Throughout the season Beane traded players this way to build the best team he could. He succeeded,

Women s Rights Is The Fight For Equality
Women s rights is the fight for the idea that women should have equal rights with men. Over history,
this has taken the form of gaining property rights, the women s suffrage, or the right of women to
vote, reproductive rights, and the right to work for for equal pay. Women were conditioned to be
treated like second class citizens solely because of their gender until a crucial movement in American
history during the late nineteenth century that would inspire a long fight for equality for generations to
come. The American women s movement was a tedious yet extraordinarily important movement that
challenged the social norms of a patriarchal society for their own recognition. Overall, this paper will
discuss the importance of women s labor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First Women s Rights Convention was held in 1848. Approximately 300 activists meet in Seneca
Falls, N.Y., to plan on how to achieve women s suffrage nationwide. Partakers, including Lucretia
Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, mark the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, formed on the
Declaration of Independence, which calls for equivalent treatment of women and men under the law
and voting rights for women.
The main organizer of the Seneca Falls Convention was Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who is deemed as
one of the most important people that made an important change in women s rights. Stanton drafted
the Declaration of Sentiments, Grievances, and Resolutions, that related to the Declaration of
Independence. We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men and women are created equal.
Among the 13 resolutions set forth in Stanton s Declaration was the goal of achieving the sacred right
of franchise (History, Art and Archives). They stated the injustices and discrimination that women had
to face with, they wanted the United States to adopt laws that protected the rights of married women,
granting them the right to own property in their own name, keep their own earnings and retain
guardianship of their children in case of divorce (Deborah Brown). In 1868, The National Labor

British Colonization Of India
The other main region of the globe we see the harmful effects of colonization is the Indian
subcontinent. By the beginning of the 18th century, British influence in India was primarily limited to
a few trading outposts along the coast. During the 1750s, the British began to conquer most of
southern India. As time went on, the British conquered all of India, either through direct control or by
forcing leaders to become allies with them. In the early days of colonization, the main ruler of India
was not the British government but the East India Company who used India was a source of materials
that they would trade. Britain later took control of the East India Company and put India under the
control of the government. The British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

state, which causes widespread panic. India receives its independence from Great Britain in 1947 but
as their last major act the British governors separate India into two new countries: India and Pakistan.
Many people are forced to leave their homes in order to get to the new country and refugees become
an issue in both countries. Widespread fighting breaks out along the borders as people try to get to the

Kashmir was ruled by a Hindu yet had a predominantly Muslim population. The maharajah hesitates

Anthropomorphism And Forest Animals
It can be suggested that Bambi s success in generating public support was a result of personifying the
forest animals. Bambi and his friends were given voices, thoughts, and emotions such as fear, love,
even curiosity that made them relatable to viewers. Anthropomorphism, by definition, is the
attribution of human characteristics to non human entities (Skibins et al., 2015). The purpose of
anthropomorphism in conservation is not to create fictional animal personas, but to create empathy
toward these animals and their ecosystems by stressing that animals have many of our characteristics
(Chan, 2012). For example, when visiting a zoo, a mother may feel a special connection when seeing a
gorilla comfort her baby. By generating this relationship, anthropomorphism poses a chance to
increase public care for a species. Though anthropomorphism may have an indirect relationship, it
creates relatability between species, and [r]elatability is linked to concern, which can lead to an
increased willingness to take conservation actions for a species (Lloyd and Woodside, 2013).
Furthermore, anthropomorphism may be applied in public advertising. Projecting human
characteristics onto an animal, generating an emotional response, causes a product to become
subconsciously memorable. Using such a method in advertising has been shown to create a link
between the consumer and the brand. The integration of explicit animal symbols... serves to activate

Cost Allocation And Cost Management
Cost Allocation Almost every single company that is in business faces a serious problem called cost
allocation. Every company no matter what they sell or what service they provide faces the problem of
allocating costs to defined cost objects. The cost allocation process is a very hard process for most.
Cost allocation is a very complex and difficult procedure that requires the application of appropriate
accounting procedures. These accounting methods sometimes will not provide objective and fair cost
allocation because they have irrational bases that are not always reliable or appropriate. This is why
accounting theory and practice steadily try to advance upon methods that are already in place and help
develop new ones that could provide objective and fair cost allocation (Perčević Dražić, 2008). Cost
allocation is a very crucial procedure for many companies not just production companies, but also in
companies that provide service. Cost allocation has one purpose and that is to enable the
determination of the cost of a product per unit in production companies and the cost of a provided
service in service companies. Therefore, methods for cost allocation directly affect the service or
product profitability assessment and at the same time sway segment and company profitability. The
main problem is the choice of the cost allocation accounting approach. There are certain methods for
cost allocation that do not apply the same to every company. If the method for

Writers on observation discuss about observers having insider and outsider perspectives (Riche
Tanner, 1998; Pellegrini, 1996:16), Pellegrini (1996) believe that observers should have outsider
perspective, and they should divorce themselves entirely from interaction. In addition to this Wilson
(1992:38) added that observers need to be appropriately responsive and yet remained detached, to
avoid being drawn in and offering advice or doing anything with, or to, the subject. There are also
issues around being obtrusive this could have an effect on the participants especially when we want to
observe them in their natural setting (Pellegrini, 1996:49). Riche and Tanner (1998; Briggs, 1995)
support this but they acknowledge that observers can find it impossible to remain an outsider, and that
the observer will become part of the process, though that nature and degree may vary. When looking
back on my experience I had every intention to take on an outsider perspective however, during my

Parental Expressed Emotion Research Summary
Research Summary # 1 ADHD and Parental Expressed Emotion
In the transitional period from late childhood to early adolescence, children with attention
deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience significant differences in terms of biological,
cognitive, and psychosocial development. While some individuals experience further challenges in
one or more of these aspects, others show significant improvement. The remitting of the symptoms is
independent of severity, impairment, and co occurring diagnoses which indicates that there is either a
new genetic influence during this period or that social and familiar environments have an impact. In
the study Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Developmental Trajectories Related to Parental

Importance Of Command Relationship
Army Command Relationships
To understand command relationships one must first understand the organizational structure of the
Armed forces leadership and key terms that communicate authority and the relationships derived from
the structured authority. In a post Katrina analysis of the military role in domestic emergencies it is
necessary to understand how the military command relationships delineate authority, responsibility,
and accountability for force protection and execution of the collective mission, by defining command,
command relationships, and understanding the four levels of authority to building efficient and
effective organizations facilitating mission execution.
Command
Command is essential to all military action, and unity of command is significant to agreement of
effort. Department of Defense units are structured under the authority of one senior command element,
which disseminates operational and mission guidance. Integral to military command is the authority a
military commander exercises over subordinates and assigned missions. The commander is ultimately
accountable for successful completion of all apportioned military missions, readiness of service
members as well as the readiness of all assigned equipment. Commanders may assign a designated

The Dangers Of Nurse Fatigue
Fatigue is defined as a feeling of weariness, tiredness, or lack of energy (Philips, 2013). Fatigue is a
subjective feeling and has been described by people as feeling tired all the time and feeling weak and
it can be influenced by physiological, psychological, behavioral, and environmental factors
(Campbell, 2011). Nurse fatigue is an issue that has been a major concern for patient safety and the
wellbeing of nurses. Nurse fatigue can be attributed to working 12 hour shifts, working night shifts,
working several back to back shifts and working overtime (Rogers, 2008). This paper will investigate
and analyze the dangers of nurse fatigue and will explore strategies for implementing changes to
reduce nurse fatigue.

Fatigue and sleepiness, tendency to fall asleep, go hand in hand as nurses struggle to stay awake
during long, consecutive, day or night shifts. For example, in the Staff Nurse Fatigue and Patient
Safety Study, the number of nurses who reported an error or a near miss had less hours of sleep than
the nurses who did not report an error or a near miss, and it was determined that there is a 3.4 percent
chance of a nursing error when nurses get 6 hours of sleep or less in the prior 24 hours; another study
found that the chances of making an error was three times higher when nurses worked more than 12.5
hours per shift (Rogers, 2008). In the Staff Nurse Fatigue and Patient Safety Study, over two thirds of
the participants reported that they struggle to stay awake while working and 20 percent reported

Lenin s Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences
Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged
workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His views became known as Marxism and influenced
the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state Communism.
These stages started with Feudalism with the aristocrats controlling politics. Next would come

The idea of the paper was to establish it as the leading underground revolutionary paper that would
push forward the revolutionary movement.
In 1902 he published a pamphlet called What is to be done? This pamphlet contained his radical ideas
towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that Lenin
made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party.
An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is
revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as
possible.
This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and
do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This
idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP.
Lenin also stated;
The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy,
strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries.
Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn t want the country to know that there was a
revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government.
The third major point that Lenin made in his pamphlet was;
We must break completely with the tradition of a purely workers or

Disadvantages Of Income Tax
An income tax is a rate charged on the income of individuals as well as business (companies or other
legal entities). Individual income taxes often tax the total earning of the individual, while corporate tax
often taxes net profit of the company. Different tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax
incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional or regressive. Tax systems define income
differently such as inclusion of windfall earnings, and often allow notional reductions of income such
as a reduction based on number of children supported.
Generally the income tax is employed in a progressive manner, meaning as one earns a higher salary a
higher proportion (percentage) of his income is taxed. The idea of a progressive income tax has
garnered support from economists and political scientists of many different ideologies, from Adam
Smith in The Wealth of Nations to Karl Marx in The Communist Manifesto. Income taxes used in
most countries around the world are characterized by a progressive scheme, but are not without
criticism.
The Disadvantages
The implementation of an income tax system is very complex, especially when trying to regulate the
rich and the corporations. So complicated in fact that an entire industry exists to simply monitor and
control the system. The government must enforce every line of the tax code, for example in the US the
IRS requires 90,000 tax accountants. The IRS and tax audit industry might do more for the economy if

The next revolution in car production took place not in the United States but in Japan. A change in
management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered the
development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three car
companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously find methods
to improve the efficiency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase quality, and
reduce car assembly time. In lean manufacturing, workers work on a moving production line, but they
are organized into small teams, each of which is responsible for a particular phase of car assembly,
such as installing the car s transmission or electrical wiring system. Each team member is expected to
learn all the tasks of all members of his or her team, and each work group is charged with the
responsibility not only to assemble cars but also to continuously find ways to increase quality and
reduce costs. By 1970, Japanese managers had applied the new lean production system so efficiently
that they were producing higher quality cars at lower prices than their US counterparts, and by 1980
Japanese companies were dominating the global car market. To compete with the Japanese, managers
at the Big Three car makers visited Japan to learn lean production methods. In recent years, Chrysler

Hippotherapy Intervention Paper
Problem Statement Some difficulties that children with special needs may face are speech and
language disorders, physical impairments, and other conditions that may make everyday tasks more
challenging. Speech therapy can help people improve their ability to communicate verbally, physical
therapy can improve their gross motor functions, balance, posture, etc., and occupational therapy can
help people do common tasks they struggle with, such as cooking (Evans, n.d.; Bender McKenzie,
2008). If children receive therapy for certain diagnoses early in their lives, they may improve enough
that they would no longer even need therapy (Evans, n.d.). Hippotherapy, which is a form of therapy
treatment that utilizes the movements of a horse, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each child has goals that they are trying to reach, and, every day the child is present, their therapists
write down observations to determine what percentage the child has improved in their set goals, which
gives them a way to measure the child s success. The study I am proposing has an experimental,
qualitative design, as I plan to compare the percent each student improves during hippotherapy
sessions with the amount improved in classroom therapy sessions to determine if the effects of
hippotherapy on children with special needs are different from those of conventional speech therapy. I
will then use this data to answer the following question: What are the effects of hippotherapy on
improvement for children who take occupational, physical, and speech therapy that are between the
ages of two and seventeen as compared to those of conventional therapy? This research will contribute
to existing research being conducted for hippotherapy by comparing its effects on children to those of
conventional therapy, which can later influence parents and therapists to consider therapy earlier in
children s lives and look into more unconventional forms of

Arthur Radley Or Boo Radley
Arthur Radley, or Boo Radley, is a neighbor of the Finch s whom neither Scout nor Jem has ever seen.
However the children have a different perspective on who Boo really is. The children view him as the
mysterious neighbor who eats cats and drools everywhere. Truthfully, he got into a bit of trouble when
he was younger which is why his father always kept him locked up inside the Radley house. In real
life Boo Radley is a caring and protective person. While he may be a recluse he is watchful over Scout
and Jem particularly close. In a way he viewed them as his children from afar and looked after them.
One example of this is when Scout and Jem are watching the fire at Mrs. Maudie s house and Boo
places a blanket on Scout s shivering body. Boo

The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens. Homo
sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like other early
humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved behaviors that
helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable environments. Homo sapiens
different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines, and material cultural as in tool
use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some traits may be a little somewhat
similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone organization. Meanwhile it s mainly
humans whose evolution is growing rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong,
Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter
build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large
brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the
average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as
chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain size
difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that
supports such mental functions as language, self awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern
humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the
world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and
new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other
living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast
to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because
their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of
homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more
evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those
18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably
require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through
parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social
environments. Primates do this as well but not to

  • 2. Short Story Chapter 2 There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the impending dusk transforming the western sky from faded blue to an artist s palette of muted pink and orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their teenage attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Prejudice And Discrimination When someone thinks of the word prejudice, he or she might think the word only refers to racial prejudice between those of different skin colors or looks. However, that is not the case. Prejudice goes deeper than that. Prejudices and stereotypes are usually negative thoughts or beliefs that people place on each other based on differences, such as religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, gender, or geographic location. Recently, Muslims have been a huge target for prejudice and discrimination. Ever since the incident of 9/11, when a terrorist group purposely crashed planes into the World Trade Center, Muslims have never been treated the same. That is reflected with the introduction of various bills and legislation, the implementation of stricter immigration laws, and the addition of stricter airport laws policies. Although I do think we can reduce the amount of prejudice in our societies among Muslims, I do not believe that prejudice and discrimination will ever completely go away. Islamophobia, the irrational fear or dislike against Islam or Muslims, very much existed before the 9/11 attacks; however, it increased drastically across the world after that horrible incident. Due to the increase of national fear in the United States after the attacks, immigration laws became much stricter. One author states that these laws were put into place by the USA Patriot Act, the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act, and many others (Villemez, 2). According to ... There is the person committing the crime and the person who is the victim of the crime. For most crimes there is no debate who is the cause of the offense, the criminal. Arguably, it is among the most distinguished battle wins of the English because nobody expected them to defeat the French. The reason was that the French army had four times more troops than it did, and everyone expected it to lose because of this. However, there are a number of factors that were at play that surpassed the numbers the French had and necessitated the English win. Such factors had to do with the strategies that were employed by the English, the conditions at the battlefield, and, most importantly, the leadership in place. It is true that history is written by the victors. While it is commonly agreed that the French army heavily outnumbered the English, the exact numbers are open to debate. Undoubtedly, as the years passed and Agincourt became the perfect never give up example, it is quite possible that the numbers advantage the French had wasn t as large as initially seen. • 10. Divergent Plates Are Formed From Plate Tectonic Plates I know that mountains are created from plate tectonics. Convergent plates are made out of the lithosphere. The lithosphere is the rocky outer part of Earth containing the crust (the thin layer of rock under the land) and the mantle (a layer of mostly silicate rock that is directly under the crust). Convergent plates are tectonic plates that collide and scrape against each other to form geological features such as mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes form when one convergent plate slides under another one, causing a subduction zone. A subduction zone is a geological process that takes place at a convergent plate boundary. One plate moves under the other and is forced to sink because of the gravity in the mantle. When this happens, molten rock (lava) is forced to the surface. This causes volcanoes to form. ... I can infer that water collected on the ground and then slowly trickled down a slope, carrying rock and sediments away with it. Overtime, more and more rain/water collected in the stream which made it grow wider. Now, a long, wide, and deep river has formed. Finally, I can see where abrasion could have made the bottom of the mountains smooth and curved. I also believe that at the center of each reality there lies the individual who crafted it. Our perception of what is real and false exists solely in our own minds, and our minds are what determines the lense in which we perceive the world. Our perception is largely influenced by our psyche; how we live and think stems from our perception of the world. Our brains are directly influenced by a number of key factors, including but not limited to; societal connotations, individual experience, instinctual desires, environmental factors, and cognitive thought. Dogs are more skillful than great apes at a number of tasks in which they must read human communicative signals like indicating the location of hidden food. However, the main objective of these studies was to determine whether the skills that dog have today have arisen from the hundreds of years of domestication and co evolution with humans, or if these were already in their genes from their wolf ancestors (Bates 2013). The modern wolf comes from a long history of canines, which have adapted to survive in many different environments. By the beginning of the 18th century, British influence in India was primarily limited to a few trading outposts along the coast. During the 1750s, the British began to conquer most of southern India. As time went on, the British conquered all of India, either through direct control or by forcing leaders to become allies with them. In the early days of colonization, the main ruler of India was not the British government but the East India Company who used India was a source of materials that they would trade. • 24. Anthropomorphism And Forest Animals It can be suggested that Bambi s success in generating public support was a result of personifying the forest animals. Bambi and his friends were given voices, thoughts, and emotions such as fear, love, even curiosity that made them relatable to viewers. Anthropomorphism, by definition, is the attribution of human characteristics to non human entities (Skibins et al., 2015). The purpose of anthropomorphism in conservation is not to create fictional animal personas, but to create empathy toward these animals and their ecosystems by stressing that animals have many of our characteristics (Chan, 2012). For example, when visiting a zoo, a mother may feel a special connection when seeing a gorilla comfort her baby. By generating this relationship, anthropomorphism poses a chance to increase public care for a species. Though anthropomorphism may have an indirect relationship, it creates relatability between species, and [r]elatability is linked to concern, which can lead to an increased willingness to take conservation actions for a species (Lloyd and Woodside, 2013). Furthermore, anthropomorphism may be applied in public advertising. Projecting human characteristics onto an animal, generating an emotional response, causes a product to become subconsciously memorable. Using such a method in advertising has been shown to create a link between the consumer and the brand. • 25. Cost Allocation And Cost Management Cost Allocation Almost every single company that is in business faces a serious problem called cost allocation. Every company no matter what they sell or what service they provide faces the problem of allocating costs to defined cost objects. The cost allocation process is a very hard process for most. Cost allocation is a very complex and difficult procedure that requires the application of appropriate accounting procedures. These accounting methods sometimes will not provide objective and fair cost allocation because they have irrational bases that are not always reliable or appropriate. This is why accounting theory and practice steadily try to advance upon methods that are already in place and help develop new ones that could provide objective and fair cost allocation (Perčević Dražić, 2008). Cost allocation is a very crucial procedure for many companies not just production companies, but also in companies that provide service. Cost allocation has one purpose and that is to enable the determination of the cost of a product per unit in production companies and the cost of a provided service in service companies. Therefore, methods for cost allocation directly affect the service or product profitability assessment and at the same time sway segment and company profitability. The main problem is the choice of the cost allocation accounting approach. There are certain methods for cost allocation that do not apply the same to every company. If the method for ... Writers on observation discuss about observers having insider and outsider perspectives (Riche Tanner, 1998; Pellegrini, 1996:16), Pellegrini (1996) believe that observers should have outsider perspective, and they should divorce themselves entirely from interaction. In addition to this Wilson (1992:38) added that observers need to be appropriately responsive and yet remained detached, to avoid being drawn in and offering advice or doing anything with, or to, the subject. There are also issues around being obtrusive this could have an effect on the participants especially when we want to observe them in their natural setting (Pellegrini, 1996:49). Riche and Tanner (1998; Briggs, 1995) support this but they acknowledge that observers can find it impossible to remain an outsider, and that the observer will become part of the process, though that nature and degree may vary. Individual income taxes often tax the total earning of the individual, while corporate tax often taxes net profit of the company. Different tax systems exist, with varying degrees of tax incidence. Income taxation can be progressive, proportional or regressive. Tax systems define income differently such as inclusion of windfall earnings, and often allow notional reductions of income such as a reduction based on number of children supported. Generally the income tax is employed in a progressive manner, meaning as one earns a higher salary a higher proportion (percentage) of his income is taxed. The idea of a progressive income tax has garnered support from economists and political scientists of many different ideologies, from Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations to Karl Marx in The Communist Manifesto. The next revolution in car production took place not in the United States but in Japan. A change in management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered the development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three car companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously find methods to improve the efficiency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase quality, and reduce car assembly time. In lean manufacturing, workers work on a moving production line, but they are organized into small teams, each of which is responsible for a particular phase of car assembly, such as installing the car s transmission or electrical wiring system. Each team member is expected to learn all the tasks of all members of his or her team, and each work group is charged with the responsibility not only to assemble cars but also to continuously find ways to increase quality and reduce costs. By 1970, Japanese managers had applied the new lean production system so efficiently that they were producing higher quality cars at lower prices than their US counterparts, and by 1980 Japanese companies were dominating the global car market. While he may be a recluse he is watchful over Scout and Jem particularly close. In a way he viewed them as his children from afar and looked after them. One example of this is when Scout and Jem are watching the fire at Mrs. Maudie s house and Boo places a blanket on Scout s shivering body. Boo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like other early humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved behaviors that helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable environments. Homo sapiens different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines, and material cultural as in tool use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some traits may be a little somewhat similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone organization. Meanwhile it s mainly humans whose evolution is growing rapidly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong, Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain size difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that supports such mental functions as language, self awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social environments. Primates do this as well but not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
