The Preservation of Chinatown in Philadelphia
In order for Philadelphia to maintain its rich culture and diversity, Chinatown must be preserved.
Chinatown has become a centerpiece of Philadelphia for tourist and residents alike to experience
eastern culture. The people are friendly, there are plenty of strangers on the streets, and plenty late
night business and as Jane Jacobs would describe it, successful (35). Therefore as a public space
that is suitable to the public it should be preserved. However, it is the target for many developers. In
the past there have been numerous attempts to develop the Chinatown district, all of which would
have compromised the integrity of Chinatown, which has been around since the late 1800s. The
Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, or the PCDC, was founded because of these
threats to Chinatown and has constantly fought off development threats to Chinatown (Lechner).
However, the developments that were constructed including the Vine Street Expressway and several
urban renewal projects south of Chinatown have effectively stopped growth in those areas. Because
of limited space and growing population further developments have been shot down rather quickly
by residents including the Foxwood Casino and in 2004 the construction of the new Phillies
stadium.
One of the first of many barrages of developmental destructions of Chinatown was the
reconstruction of the Vine Street

Themes In The Pianist
How does Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure hardship when there s hope in
the film The Pianist? The human will to survive is a major theme in Roman Polanski The Pianist
. The film about a Jewish Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman who was in Poland at the time of the
german invasion. As his family is rounded up to be shipped off to a Nazi labor camp, he escapes
deportation and eludes capture by living in the ruins of Warsaw. the movie goes into great length
showing that humans are able to endure so much hardship when there s hope. By using a multitude
of techniques such as but not limited to, the use of music and sounds, the characterization, and the
use of colour and lighting. Those few cinematic techniques and narrative elements will be dissected
so we can have a better understand how Roman Polanski show that humans are able to endure
hardship when there s hope Music plays a big part within this film. Amidst the sounds of beating,
gunshots, and crying that emphasize a powerful and destructive feeling, the sound of the piano
brings an unbridled feeling of hope to this film. At the beginning of the movie, Wladyslaw is seen
playing Chopin s Nocturne Lento con gran espressione, this is than interrupted by the sound of
bombings. Although Wladyslaw continues to play the piece it is a beautiful demonstration of how
hope is portrayed in the movie. A beautiful piano piece disturbed by the sounds of bombs, gunshots,
and broken glass. The film shows the audience that

How can Thailand Successfully Become the Top Culinary...
Thailand itself has a strong potential to be the top culinary tourism destination. According to the
inadequate of promoting, good management and marketing strategy by both public and government
sectors, culinary tourism in Thailand is not well known as a top tourist destination. The
proliferation of promoting for Thai gastronomy through any kinds of tools could be a crucial key to
attract Thai foodculture in the heart of culinary tourists. Furthermore, understanding culinary
tourists behaviors and motivation factors help Thailand create truly culinary experiences for

The Overview of Culinary TourismA variety of terms have been used to express the relationship
between food and tourism: culinary tourism, cuisine tourism and gastronomic tourism. To indicate
the definition of those words, cuisine is defined as style of food preparation in effect, styles of
cookery. Cuisine does not mean for cooking only but applying to other activities in the scope of
culinary includes ingredients, prepared foods, beverages, food production, motivations, activities,
institutional structures, and tourism. Culinary as the adjective form of cuisine means kitchen in
Latin (culina). This term seems to be focused on the actual practice (e.g. culinary utensil )
denotes styles of food preparation and consumption as well as the social context in which food is
acquired and prepared for sharing (Ignatov Smith, 2006, p.237 238). Gastronomy is involved in
the enjoyment of good food and beverages as a part of an affluent or aesthetically superior lifestyle
and concerned the total consumption of the meal (Gillespie, 2001).
Culinary Tourism recently becomes trend in tourism industry and explores new cultures through
food. It is defined as traveling for food, traveling through food, eating out of curiosity, or integrating
food into tourism. Moreover, culinary tourism can denote distinctive destination sites, such as
restaurants, vineyards, and original home of a particular food or type of tourism that

Gangs Of New York Movie Analysis
The movie Gangs of New York takes place in mid 19th century in the Five Points district located
inside of New York City. The Five Points area was built on what was known as the Collect Pond;
the Five Points was a very important part of the movie because this is where everyone got their
fresh water. Eventually, overtime due to the amount of people immigrating here the water started to
become contaminated in a short period of time. In other words, it stunk, and the place was filled
with disease. Nobody wanted to live there except the poorest of the poor. When the Irish began
immigrating to the city due to the Great Irish famine, Irish immigrants began over piling into the
Five Points and making the neighborhood their new home. One of the... Show more content on

On the morning of July 13, a mob gathered, attacking and beating several police officers. The
rioters then marched to the provost marshal s office where the draft lottery was taking place and
setting fire to the building (Hauptman). The government s attempt to enforce the draft in New
York City ignited the most descriptive civil disturbance in the city s history (History.com).
Many people were very frustrated at the fact that it was not fair for the working class that
worked to provide for their families to go off to fight a war that they did not want to be a part of.
Another reason many people very upset was because in America they were all supposed to be
seen as equals (predominantly whites). Not only were African Americans victimized they were
also beaten up, stoned with rocks and torched by large mobs. The movie does acknowledge the
attack on the Colored Orphan Asylum on Fifth Avenue, where many children were killed which is
historically correct. Hauptman also mentions that In all, at least 119 people were killed, and 178
soldiers and police and 128 civilians were wounded. More than $1.5 million in property was
damaged or destroyed . Comparing what Laurence Hauptman and Tyler Anbinder say in their own
research to the movie, the movie portrayed the right facts, the right state of mind that these people

Essay American Folk Music
The folk genre has origins all the way back to the 19th century, which in many ways is mirrored by
many popular genres in modern musical genres. To make it easy folk music is merely, ballads and
songs which are composed and conveyed vocally, without being written. Though what we
distinguish folk today as stylistically very different to what folk was during the 19th century, at its
basic form, it still holds the same standards and concepts, describing the simpler times. Through
vigorous research, it s hard to overlook the history and development of southern folk music, and
how it may help understand the significance for observing and expanding the dynamics of southern
race relationships. Both southern race associations and southern... Show more content on

One major reason folk was special in the African Americanculture is because it s a likeness of the
southern region s culture, history and social structure at the instruction level and of the
confidences, fears, politics and arrogances of its people at the early stages of segregation. The
music of the English, Welsh and Scotch Irish blended rapidly and effortlessly in the same process
by which these groups mixed demographically and socially to form the essential culture. The music
of northern European groups such as the French and Germans modified justly into the folk custom.
It is seeming that some musical forms such as polkas from eastern Europe, the music of the Hindu,
Arabic and Greek settlers, practiced the same affiliation to the musical essential that the groups
themselves practiced with regard to the essential culture; a assortment more or less of choice.
The African tradition, however, is a exclusive and isolated case and the association between black
and white musical forms, predominantly in the South, reflects southern race relations. The South
today, from all external indicators, has made important steps toward homogenization with the rest
of the nation in the areas of development and development. Whether these growths

Argumentative Essay On Electoral College
Electoral College The most important time of the year in the USA is when all the citizens gather
together and cast a vote for their elect president. During this process most people would say this
when Americans really show out for their democracy. Many times we have seen the electoral
college not work in favor of the people.. Or maybe it does. The arguments to maintain the Electoral
College system are all derived from the notion that it has worked fine thus far. There have been
many attempts to reform the electoral system but none of them have been successful. This is due to
the fact that no electionsystem is perfect, but the current system has stood the test of time. It has
never rejected the winner of a popular vote majority. It always produces clear and immediately
known winners, so far. Getting rid of the Electoral College system would be profoundly dangerous.
Especially with the way modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The electoral college began in 1964 with the constitution of the United States in Article II, Clause
II. The total number of electors are 538 and the required number of electoral votes for the
candidates running for president to win the presidency is 270. Along the years, many people
have argued that the electoral college is not a fair. Twice with the running candidates we have
seen elect presidents win due to the electoral college. For example, back in 2000 with Gore vs
Bush, Gore had won the popular vote but did not win the amount of electoral votes to win
presidency, therefore Bush had won and became president. A second example of this happening is
in the recent president election with Clinton vs Trump, Clinton had won the popular vote by
nearly 2 million more votes than Trump. In the end, Trump was the first to receive all 270
electoral votes needed to win and therefore won and became our elect president. When electoral
votes happen it leaves many to question does our vote really

Analysis Of Gun With Occasional Music
He s a make addict, arrogant, and isn t going to stop unless he gets what he wants.
A private investigator in a futuristic world where animals can talk, and babies are robots. In Gun,
with Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem, Conrad Metcalf, an ill mannered private investigator,
attempts to reveal the truth in the murder an old client. It may be a lot to take in, but by the end
of this review, you ll see how unorthodox but strangely fascinating this book really is. In my point
of view, this hard boiled novel is a stereotypical agent gone rogue type of circumstance, I also
believe it contains mostly analogies. And finally, the fist fights, karma points, and various drugs
make the book even more interesting. Despite the fact he is the main character, Metcalf sure has
something about him that rubs people the wrong way. Due to the fact he s going against the
system more often than not, he gets caught in a scuffle between other inquisitors that work at his
office. That s because of Orton Angwine, the number one suspect in the Maynard Stanhunt
murder. Orton hires Metcalf to do some digging and prove he s innocent. At first he wasn t
interested, but once he finds out there s a lot behind the story than he thought, he persists.
Because of his forbidden involvement, Metcalf gets in a variety of fights. And after each punch
in the gut, he keeps on his journey to expose the truth. If this book were a movie, I could imagine
a smoky bar. A man sitting in the corner, with a cigar, fedora and a trench coat, or even a jazz
band playing in the background. This book can definitely give you that kind of vibe. And you
might even get lost in that type of setting. If you read this book and find it interesting, it ll be
really difficult to put it down. Even when Conrad Metcalf starts to open up about his feelings,
especially about Delia. Delia Limetree. She is only referenced once in the whole book, but she
definitely strung up a few questions for me. Delia Limetree is a girl who Metcalf dated, or
married, who left him. He explains they had an operation done that swapped their nerve endings,
as well as genitalia. That part didn t make sense at first, then it dawned on me that it was just one
big analogy. Someday I was going

Tyranny And Deviant
To begin with, Aristotle had developed a theory labelled as the Constitutional Theory. As per
Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy, Constitutional theory states that constitutions which aim at
the common advantage are correct and just without qualification, whereas those which aim only at
the advantage of the rulers are deviant and unjust, because they involve despotic rule which is
inappropriate for a community of free persons . He divided these types of constitution into two
categories: correct and deviant. These sets tell whether a certain governmentis ruled by one ruler,
few rulers, and many rulers. Under correct constitutions are the following: Kingship or Monarchy,
Aristocracy, and Polity. Next, under the category of deviant are as follows:... Show more content on

They have the power to govern a nation because of their status in society. Polity is defined as the
form of government of a social organization . An exemplar is the federal government of the United
States. Moving forward to the deviant, first off is Tyranny. The word tyranny actually
demonstrates back to the days of Nazi where Adolf Hitler became abusive and greedy of power
went to hatred, killed millions of lives (Jews) that were known, the Holocaust. Germany is the best
example of tyrannical country under the German Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler. After tyranny comes
the name Oligarchy the term refers to the few people who control the state. The country fitted for
this one is Russia. Although Vladimir Putin was the leader, little did they know that this man was
controlled by few businessmen that is Igor Sechin, the chief of Rosneft (the state oil company) his

both Louis and Peter tried to integrate them in the main body of the government hence, preventing

higher and provincial nobility by creating the court of aristocrats and summoning the nobles to
take up residence in Versailles. This made it easier for him to keep them under his eyes

At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Spain possessed the most populous empire in the
world, controlling almost all Africa. To most Europeans, Spain still seemed the greatest power of
the age, but the reality was quite different: the treasury was empty (Spielvogel P 512). A major
political development inspired by growing nationalism was the alliance of small states into two
central new nations: Italy and Germany. Before the second half of the 19th century, Italy was a
collection of city states that were only loosely allied with one another. The German Confederation
was created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815, but it had been controlled by the Austrian and
Prussian Empires. In 1848 major rebellions broke out within the confederation, inspired by liberals
who envisioned a German nation ruled by parliamentary government. The revolutions failed, and
many liberals fled the country, but they proved to be an excuse for the Prussian army to invade
other parts of the Confederation. The Prussian military leader was Otto von Bismarck, who

Pizza is purchased from a food supplier and drives up gross profit margin by 65%, beer is driven

Essay about Biometrics
Biometrics
We live in a world today, in which technology moves at a very rapid pace. Many of these
technological advances can be used to make our everyday lives easier and safer. One of these new
technologies is Biometrics. Biometrics is the process of measuring a person s physical properties.
This would include measuring things like fingerprints, retinas, odor, vein structure on the back of
the hand and many other things. Biometrics is a very important topic because it would create better
security precautions for certain places that need to be secure. Biometrics will make our society safer
by only allowing authorized people out of secure facilities and by keeping the unauthorized people
out. Throughout the rest of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why it is so accurate is because the iris in human eyes is completely formed by the
eighth month of a person s life. Iris recognition can be used to identify a person of practically any
age.
Face recognition is another biometric technology. Face recognition uses the same technology that
iris recognition uses. For face recognition, a camera takes several images of a person to find out
who it is. Face recognition differs from all of the other biometric technologies because the person
that is in the picture does not have to cooperate with the process. In all of the other technologies it
requires the people to actively participate in the process. In face recognition, the image can be taken
without the person even knowing that it took place.
The final main biometric technology used is fingerprint recognition. This is definitely the most
widely used biometric technology. This type of biometric has been used for many, many years.
Because of this, fingerprint recognition has been known as the most primary and accurate
identification method used to identify a person. The modern fingerprint recognition is all done
electronically. There are two main ways of analyzing fingerprints electronically. The first plots
points on the ridges of a person s fingers that enable the computer to compare to different
fingerprints. The second method uses patterns of a fingerprint

Becoming An Orthodontist
A Great Job to Pursue (Oral Health): Orthodontists
The career of an Orthodontist may seem difficult to succeed, but it is a very important job to
consider. Going to the dentist may appear to be enough, but the truth is they only clean the patient s
teeth. An Orthodontist can align crooked teeth that are out of place and need to be moved into a
better position (World Book Millennium 2000). When knowing that one wants to take on this
career, they should start planning as early as high school. The student should take extra science
courses to help prepare them for college and for dental school. The most important part of
considering becoming an Orthodontist is the DAT exam which students must pass with exceedingly
high scores (Schooling). An Orthodontist s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The typical tuition cost for the dental program is $30,000, but for the cost of a DDS/DMD is
between $20,000 through $50,000 per year. Non residents pay more; for example, the University of
Michigan School of Dentistry has students living in Michigan paying $28,538 whereas non
residents pay $44,532. Students in Michigan are charged $70,000 for total charges, while students
outside the state pay $89,000. The cost of an education is high, but it eventually pays off because
of the high salary. The average wage for the U.S. stands at about $190,000 per year (Schooling).
Starting out, Orthodontists can make up to $92,000 and earn up to $300,000 a year or higher
(Technologies). The majority of Orthodontists are self employed. They are the ones that make most
of the money, but also have many expenses to pay for like equipment, staff, and insurance

Adaptations Are Broken Into Three Types Of Adaptations
INTRODUCTION
Adaptations are broken into three types of Adaptations. Structural, Physiological and Behavioural,
these types of adaptations differ from one another changing a different aspect of the organism.
Structural Adaptations are the change in appearance based on the organism s environment.
Physiological Adaptations are the organisms body chemistry, metabolism, and reproductive
attributes. Behavior Adaptations are the way in which an organism acts.
THE RED KANGAROO
The kangaroos ability to hop is a structural adaptation. The kangaroo s leg muscles spring when the
kangaroo makes impact with the ground. This transfer from elastic potential energy to kinetic
energy saves the kangaroo from using unnecessary energy to cover large distances. (As seen in
figure 1)
The female kangaroo s efficient breeding cycle also assists them in surviving the harsh environment.
They have the ability, when pregnant, to put the growth of the embryo on hold until external
conditions improve. This increases the chances of the young surviving. In times of drought, many
kangaroos will die but when conditions are good female kangaroos can have three young ones with
them at the same time: one as an embryo (not yet born), one in the pouch attached to a teat and one
outside the pouch but still drinking the mother s milk. This extreme breeding cycle is a huge
physiological adaptation that has allowed the kangaroo to reproduce.
A physiological adaptations of the red kangaroos is that they

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group Essay
Dividend Policy at FPL Group
FPL Group Overview:
The FPL Group was Florida s largest electric utility group and the fourth largest in America. The
FPL Group had annual revenues of exceeding $5 billion. Florida Power amp; Light Company, the
main subsidiary of the FPL Group had 3.9 million customer accounts and covered a service area
that included six of America s ten fastest growing metropolitan areas.
a. Summarize the key elements of FPL s financial policy and compare it with other relevant firms.
We are commenting on FPL s financial policy from a dividendand capital structure perspective.
FPL has a very high dividend payout ratio of around 90% and has a 47 year streak of dividend

This would mean intense competition and may open up FPL to pricing pressure and in an adverse
situation, losses. Such a situation has already been witnessed in California s utility companies post
introduction of retail wheeling in their state.
In light of the situation mentioned above, FPL has to ensure that it has the resources available to
meet future competition where one of the determinants of winning or retaining new business may
be price. Hence, its dividend payout policy must be modified to account for these industry changes.
c. How should FPL choose between dividends and share repurchases as alternative modes of
payment?
The Modigliani Miller clearly postulates that the dividend policy is irrelevant. The value of the
assets of FPL should be independent of the financial structure of the firm. Also, the choice of
dividend payments or share repurchases should not influence the share price as both methods are
ways to distribute cash to the shareholders. However, this is true only in the Modigliani Miller
world where there are no costs related to taxes or financial distress.
In practice, dividend policy will be affected by taxes as tax rates for different categories of
investors will differ. Also, a firm s dividend policy is perceived by the financial markets to be a
signaling mechanism. A cut back in dividends may signify that the firm perceives tough

The World Of The Arab Emirates
Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is
planning a new megaproject, The Mall of the World. This project will be located in Al Sufouh,
Dubai, which is one of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab
Emirates is located in the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It also extends part of the Gulf of
Oman and the Persian Gulf on its southern coast. This positioned the country to have bordering
countries such as Saudi Arabia to the southwest, Qatar and Iran in the north, and Oman in the east.
This enhances the United Arab Emiratestrading with neighboring countries which led to a positive
effect on the economy. Yet, the sandy and barren city strives to improve their economic standing
each and every day. With a population of 9.2 million, the country continues to grow and expand to
further their reputation as one of the richest country in the world. One of the most important part
of the United Arab Emirates history is their federation being formed in 1971. Specifically, this
federation had a huge effect on Dubai. In Dubai becoming part of the seven emirates, there was an
increased influence on the city s development and growth. Even as the city saw an influx in
immigrants fleeing from the Lebanese civil war in December 1971, Dubai together with Abu
Dhabi, the capital, and 5 other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the formal protector
of Britain left the Persian Gulf. The country s

Causes Of Cuban In The Spanish American War
Cuba in the Spanish American War The Spanish American war consisted of a series of
influential battles that pitted America and many of Spain s colonies against Spanish rule, and
ended with Spain losing its colonies and America gaining control over more and more land. In
1898, America joined a war being pit against Spain to force the Spanish to relinquish all control
of their colonies, including Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. This same war ended only a few
months later, with Spain suffering huge losses and America gaining money and territories. The
Spanish American war could be split into three main points of interest: How and why the Spanish
American war started, The battles of Manila, Santiago de Cuba, Asomante, and Las Guasimas (
And the Rough Riders) , and the aftermath of the war. One of the most interesting territories was
Cuba. Although the Spanish american war was not a long and costly war, it changed many
people s lives indefinitely. There were a plethora of important events that took place that
prompted the beginning of The Spanish American war. The war was officially started in 1898,
bringing joy to the citizens of America and dismay to then president William Mckinley. Before the
war, Cuba had been fighting for independence from Spain. The Cuban s had already lost in the ten
year war earlier, which had been fought to gain their independence from Spain. In the state s,

Secularity In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Big Brother s Divinity: Disguised Elements of Religion Within Forced Secularity in George Orwell
s Nineteen Eighty Four In the four largest religions in the world, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and
Buddhism, they all have at least three elements in common: presence of a leader, rituals, and
organization. This, however, is not limited to solely the four religions mentioned above and are
present in most religions around the world. In George Orwell s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty
Four, the Party in power, Ingsoc, ironically presents a forced religionpraising themselves and Big
Brother while they also enforce a secular society. With Big Brother being the centre of the religion,
the Party forces the society to carry on their rituals and traditions... Show more content on

Hell is a place where [sinners] will be punished with everlasting destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
and [sinners] will [be thrown] into the blazing furnace, where there will be gasping and
gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:42) In short, hell is a place of destruction through pain and
torture. In Nineteen Eighty Four, there are references to cleansing through torture in an effort to
accept Big Brother and the Party in Room 101. Anyone who commits a political crime can be
led in to Room 101, from Doublethinkers to sexual sinners. This relates to another idea of
religions: fun and love should be directed to the ultimate leader, and love for anything else would
be considered a sin, just like the society presented in the book. With Room 101 being hell, O
Brien being the torturer or the devil, and political prisoners being the sinners, Orwell presents a
familiar society that closely resembles most religions. Even though Christianity seems to be the
framework of Nineteen Eighty Four as it was written in a setting where Christianity was the most
common religion, most other religions carry similar ideas of punishment in the afterlife. For
example, Jahannam is the equivalent of hell in Islam, and Naraka is the equivalent of hell in
Hindu, with Yama, the god of death in charge. However, there is a slight difference between
traditional religions hells and Room 101 from Nineteen Eighty Four. In

The First Source By Qui Jin
Both primary sources being compared come from Chapter 18 in Worlds Together, Worlds apart.
The first source was written by Qui Jin, an early twentieth century Chinese feminist. In her essay
titled An Address to Two Hundred Million Fellow Country Women, she details the injustices to
Chinese women in this period. Jin also connects the fate of the Country to chinese women s
futures. By doing so she puts a nationalist view into her essay. The other source is another feminist
piece; this time coming from Bahithat al Badiya, where she criticizes Egypt s religious traditions
in effect to women s freedom. Both women show some of the feminist ideas that were circling
society at the beginning of the twentieth century. Throughout the turn of the century worldwide
insecurities were rampant. Although modernism was Another insecurity would be the changing of
roles for women in a society that was already losing many social constructs due to the rising
popularity of modernist views. However, with decreasing economies and job loss, people start
turning on their governments, and trying to revert to older more traditional ways. Modern views
were starting to be rejected by many, and the growing anxieties of modern women fed to the views
that change is for the worst. Both these women s radical views represented the desire for new
identities. A common desire for the time, as people grew dissatisfied with their governments and
wanted reform. Although a small group, Chinese feminists were

William Byrd
History 250 Byrd Diary Paper February 19, 2008 The Worldview of William Byrd II of Westover
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of a person is their private life. I know that I do different
things when I am alone or with close friends, which leads many of us to wonder what William
Byrd, a wealthy Virginia planter, did in both his social and private sides of life, as well as what
prompted him to write the various statements in his diary. At first glance, William Byrd II gave
me the impression of a spoiled, rich boy who feels he can do as he pleases. In reality, he did do
what he pleased since he was a major Virginia planter and owner of many slaves. His hard work
consisted of writing letters to England or talking to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident when his wife Lucy makes an entrance when she should not or performs some
sort of disobedient act towards William, which results in him appearing less of a man to his
male company. Lucy probably recognized this and continued to embarrass William whenever
she was not getting the attention she deserved, or when she had simply had enough of William
and his commanding mode of behavior. William gives as much attention to his children as he
does to Lucy; little to none. I have come to see his journal entries as highlights of his day. Lucy
is in a few of his entries, but mainly because they were having an argument and it stayed with
William all day. As for his children, well unless they are sick or wet the bed, then they never do
anything worthy to William. Besides the fact that he ignores his family, what else could he have
been doing all day that he did not write about? For example, maybe there was some activity or
routine, but because it did not strike him as important, he did not write about it. He does routinely
write about what he ate for breakfast and the time he woke up, but other than that, it is whatever he
found important that day, which for the most part is not interesting to me at all. Although Byrd is

Roman Catholic Reforms During The Counter Reformation
Once the protestant Reformation began, the roman Catholics, in addition to continuing their efforts
to reform the Catholic church, needed to reform, or stop the protestant movement. The Roman
Catholic s used several methods during the Counter Reformation. First, they established the Council
of Trent, which defined Catholic doctrines, and eliminated abuses in the church. The Monarchies
also play a major role in keeping the catholic faith alive by simply being catholic. And finally, major
groups who dedicated themselves to combating the spread of Protestantismsuch as Jesuits and the
Congregation of the Holy Office also contributed greatly by reducing the spread. PopePaul the third,
recognized the need for reform, thus summoned the Council of Trent, which met in sessions. These
assembly s composed of bishops and church leaders only. They both defined Roman Catholic
doctrine. In their consideration of this doctrine, the Council rejected any compromises with the
Protestants. Instead, they strongly reaffirmed traditional Catholic teaching. For example, they
declared that the sources of Christian faith were to be found both in the bible and in the traditions
of the church. They also say that there are 7 sacraments instead of two. basically, rejecting most of
Luther s teachings. The council thus preserved the papacy as a unifying enter for the catholic church
and helped prevent the very real threat of dissolution. The most important accomplishments of the
council however, was the

A Not So Secret Escape If you were to ask someone twenty years ago what camping is all about,

Anything over five was not considered for this study. This is because for the purposes of this
study, anything over five times a year is considered a significant amount of times to be ill. In
this experiment, the main goal is to find a possible correlation between whether a person makes
their bed daily or not and around how many times they are sick in a year. We hypothesize that
making one s bed daily promotes good health habits, therefore preventing one from being ill
frequently. Due to this, we predict that participants that reportedly make their beds daily will
also report fewer instances of being sick per year, with most responses estimated to land around
1 3 times per year. The main independent variable being studied is whether participants make
their bed daily, and the dependent variable would be how often they are sick in a year. There are
some other independent variables that could impact the relationship, such as gender and age,
because they too have an influence on the health of a person. Due to this, we asked participants to
report that information as well, so we can take it into account when running data tests and drawing
conclusions. Results Our independent variable for this study is whether participants make up their

Essay about The Terri Schiavo Case and Euthanasia
The poem To the Mercy Killers by Dudley Randall refers to the ongoing debate of the right to
live. If ever mercy move you murder me, I pray you, kindly killers, let me live (Randall 623).
Here he is most likely referring to doctors as kindly killers who feel that letting him die would be
a mercy to him. Randall clearly believes that life is a treasured gift, and should not be purposely
extinguished for any reason. However, terminally ill patients should have the right to decide
whether they want to die or not. In 2003, much of the American public first became aware of a
brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo. On February 25, 1990, Terri Schiavo collapsed in her
home from unknown causes. Terri s husband, Michael Schiavo, told... Show more content on

Bush got involved. Michael Schiavo was appalled by these attempts: Right now I am very
outraged. This is a sad day for Terri and this is a sad day for everybody in America because the
government is going to trample on all of your personal and private matters. This is an outrage,
they have no business in this matter. Terri made her wishes, it has been adjudicated in a state
court over the last seven years. Eighteen judges have heard this. Appeals have been heard. The
Supreme Court justices have heard this, and now the House of Representatives and the Senate are
saying that they are wrong. They are thumbing their nose up at the constitution (Democracy Now).
However, the hastily passed laws both the state of Florida and the federal government are
eventually deemed unconstitutional by the courts. The feeding tube is removed on March 18,
2005 despite frantic appeals of the Schindlers and organizations that support them. On March 31,
2005, at 9:05am, Terri Schiavo died a calm, peaceful, and gentle death according to Michael s
attorney (China Daily). The eventual autopsy found that, The damage was irreversible, and that No
amount of therapy or treatment could have regenerated the massive loss of neurons (University of
Miami). The large amount of controversy the Schiavo case caused is still remembered by many
today. When the case was in the news, everyone had their own opinion. Some believed that just

Elizabeth represents hope. Throughout Victor s depression she was the only one he was focused

Small Rodents Make Wonderful Pets Essays
Anyone who has owned one would readily aggree that hamsters, girlbils, and mice provide an
owner with hours of amusement and years of companionship. Rabbits are fabulous for those who
are looking for a quiet playmate, while rats and ferrets are hyperactive and surprisingly intelligent.
Guinea pigs are another very popular choice for a small pet. A website dedicated to guinea pigs
boasts on their front page that there is no question that guinea pigs make excellent pets [and are]
docile, low maintenance, and unbelievably cute.
I strongly beg to differ, unless docile means boring and low maintenance means that you only need
to scoop up piggy pellet poop every few minutes. Calling a guinea ... Show more content on

A block of wood, on the other hand, has a glorious, rich history. Imagine that your beloved block
of wood was once part of a hardy, eighty foot tall tree, who had majestically grown from a tiny
acorn in the dense forrests of Canada! Who would want to be introducing a new pet to their
friends and say This is Bob and he came from the pet store and well...uhh...that s about it, actually ?
The very thought of it is embarassing. Score one for the block of wood.
If their pathetic past isn t enough to deter a potential owner from getting a guinea pig, next consider
the housing requirements of the creature. Unless planning to allow the guinea pig to rome free in the
house, a sturdy (and expensive) cage will be necessary. An absolute bare minimum of two
square feet of floor space is required, but very often cages offer four or more square feet of
space. The smaller, starter cages can cost anywhere from fourty to eighty dollars, and as the
space in the cage increases, so does the price. The cage must be placed with care in a location
that is free from direct sunlight and drafts. Bedding, another requirement for a healthy pet, is also
costly and is constantly needed (Guinea pigs soil their litter very quickly and efficently, but we ll
get to that later). In addition to a cage and bedding, it is also generally a good idea to provide
containers for food (hay, scientific pellet mix, and

The Coffee Crisis
By Stephen Quinlan amp; Jose Gomez Ibanez
Case Analysis
Michael G. Castro
Capella University
MBA6008 Global Economic Environment
Professor Hadsell
February 13, 2013
Introduction
Stephen Quinlan and Jose Gomez Ibanez describes, in The Coffee Crisis , that in 2004 the
governments of coffee producing countries were considering how to respond to rapid decline to
coffee prices. In 2001, coffee prices hit a forty year low, which resulted in extreme hardships for
the local farming communities. On that note, this decline in coffee prices was considered the
coffee crisis. The coffee crisis came to be thanks in part to coffees: overproduction, under
consumption and oligopoly market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3, 2004).
Market Structure
The overall coffee market resembled that of an oligopoly, which is defined as a market
dominated by a few large producers of homogeneous or differentiated product. Because of how
few exist, oligopolies had considerable control over their prices, but each must consider the
possible reaction of rivals to its own pricing, output, and advertising decisions (McConnell, Brue
amp; Flynn, 2012, p.223). Oligopolies are also characterized by barriers to market entry
(McConnell, Brue amp; Flynn, 2012). Although there were many countries producing and
exporting coffee, the market was largely dominated by a few countries (i.e., Brazil, Colombia,
and later on, Vietnam). Oligopoly, by its very nature, limits transparency in the market place.
Within ten years this country grew from a relatively insignificant producer to the world second
largest ahead of Colombia (producing ~11 million bags accounting for 10% world export) but
behind Brazil (producing ~35 million bags accounting for 35% world export) producing well over
11 million bags annually and accounting for approximately 12% of world exports (CRB, 2006).
Factor Markets
From the ICA collapse bringing forth Vietnam s entrance into the coffee market to the quality
degradation, the coffee crisis affected more than just the market. With a drop in coffee prices, the
farmers not

Gender Biases In The Music Industry
biases. Now when you take a look at the surface of the music business there seems to be diversity
with gender, but behind the scenes, this bias has changed very little. This behind the scenes
industry consists of music production, mastering, mixing, A R, administration and many other
record label jobs that are given. The genderbiases that exist in today s music industry serve a harsh
reminder of influential sexism, most prominent biases are the attitudes towards women because of
pre existing malepreference in the business. In today s world, we see gender biases that still exist
in today s jobs and careers. The music business is one of the few businesses that are still dominated
by males and this number isn t showing any prominent growth... Show more content on

This shows a male preferred network still being used by the industry and very little change has
been made. The article also goes on to state that Statistics on the percentages of females working
in sales for music companies and merchants are unavailable. But in an informal Billboard survey,
female executives acknowledge that they have made some headway during the last few years in
terms of representation in the marketplace. However, they urge the industry to keep pushing
forward on the issue which means that there is still a gender gap that exists due to the preference
of males. According to the employment gap, there is very little promotional growth for females in
the business, but this number is slowly being addressed as the boy network becomes more
prominent; the inefficiency of the system will make its collapse

Essay on History of The U.S. Military
History of The U.S. Military
The history of the United States military is a very prestige, brave, heroic, and memorable one at
that. Starting on September 3, 1793 the United States was officially it s own nation and it s own
military. At that time many other countries didn t believe that we would succeed but, now we are
one of the strongest, freest, and most prestige country to possible ever be developed.
The technology that we had started off with just a simple musket that shot one bullet at an time and

After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945
they had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos. Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were
dropped on Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the
dropping was because he belived it would end the war.
Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin
to make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started.
This had also started the beginning of the cold war as well. (http://library.thinkquest.org/17940/texts
/timeline/manhattan.html).
In 1949 the cold war had started , China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there
first atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had
started. One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of
the U.N. were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had
became communist with as many people it has making a large workforce could spell trouble for
the democracies. Communism was also flexing it s muscles in the Soviet Union after making sure

  • 4. The Preservation Of Chinatown Chicago Phillip Fok David Walls English 0802 September 16, 2015 The Preservation of Chinatown in Philadelphia In order for Philadelphia to maintain its rich culture and diversity, Chinatown must be preserved. Chinatown has become a centerpiece of Philadelphia for tourist and residents alike to experience eastern culture. The people are friendly, there are plenty of strangers on the streets, and plenty late night business and as Jane Jacobs would describe it, successful (35). Therefore as a public space that is suitable to the public it should be preserved. However, it is the target for many developers. In the past there have been numerous attempts to develop the Chinatown district, all of which would have compromised the integrity of Chinatown, which has been around since the late 1800s. The Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, or the PCDC, was founded because of these threats to Chinatown and has constantly fought off development threats to Chinatown (Lechner). However, the developments that were constructed including the Vine Street Expressway and several urban renewal projects south of Chinatown have effectively stopped growth in those areas. Because of limited space and growing population further developments have been shot down rather quickly by residents including the Foxwood Casino and in 2004 the construction of the new Phillies stadium. One of the first of many barrages of developmental destructions of Chinatown was the reconstruction of the Vine Street ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the beginning of the movie, Wladyslaw is seen playing Chopin s Nocturne Lento con gran espressione, this is than interrupted by the sound of bombings. Although Wladyslaw continues to play the piece it is a beautiful demonstration of how hope is portrayed in the movie. The Five Points area was built on what was known as the Collect Pond; the Five Points was a very important part of the movie because this is where everyone got their fresh water. Eventually, overtime due to the amount of people immigrating here the water started to become contaminated in a short period of time. In other words, it stunk, and the place was filled with disease. Many people were very frustrated at the fact that it was not fair for the working class that worked to provide for their families to go off to fight a war that they did not want to be a part of. Another reason many people very upset was because in America they were all supposed to be seen as equals (predominantly whites). Not only were African Americans victimized they were also beaten up, stoned with rocks and torched by large mobs. The movie does acknowledge the attack on the Colored Orphan Asylum on Fifth Avenue, where many children were killed which is historically correct. To make it easy folk music is merely, ballads and songs which are composed and conveyed vocally, without being written. Though what we distinguish folk today as stylistically very different to what folk was during the 19th century, at its basic form, it still holds the same standards and concepts, describing the simpler times. Through vigorous research, it s hard to overlook the history and development of southern folk music, and how it may help understand the significance for observing and expanding the dynamics of southern race relationships. One major reason folk was special in the African Americanculture is because it s a likeness of the southern region s culture, history and social structure at the instruction level and of the confidences, fears, politics and arrogances of its people at the early stages of segregation. The music of the English, Welsh and Scotch Irish blended rapidly and effortlessly in the same process by which these groups mixed demographically and socially to form the essential culture. The music of northern European groups such as the French and Germans modified justly into the folk custom. It is seeming that some musical forms such as polkas from eastern Europe, the music of the Hindu, Arabic and Greek settlers, practiced the same affiliation to the musical essential that the groups themselves practiced with regard to the essential culture; a assortment more or less of choice. The African tradition, however, is a exclusive and isolated case and the association between black and white musical forms, predominantly in the South, reflects southern race relations. During this process most people would say this when Americans really show out for their democracy. Many times we have seen the electoral college not work in favor of the people.. Or maybe it does. The arguments to maintain the Electoral College system are all derived from the notion that it has worked fine thus far. There have been many attempts to reform the electoral system but none of them have been successful. This is due to the fact that no electionsystem is perfect, but the current system has stood the test of time. It has never rejected the winner of a popular vote majority. It always produces clear and immediately known winners, so far. Getting rid of the Electoral College system would be profoundly dangerous. Especially with the way modern... Along the years, many people have argued that the electoral college is not a fair. Twice with the running candidates we have seen elect presidents win due to the electoral college. For example, back in 2000 with Gore vs Bush, Gore had won the popular vote but did not win the amount of electoral votes to win presidency, therefore Bush had won and became president. A second example of this happening is in the recent president election with Clinton vs Trump, Clinton had won the popular vote by nearly 2 million more votes than Trump. • 11. Analysis Of Gun With Occasional Music He s a make addict, arrogant, and isn t going to stop unless he gets what he wants. A private investigator in a futuristic world where animals can talk, and babies are robots. In Gun, with Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem, Conrad Metcalf, an ill mannered private investigator, attempts to reveal the truth in the murder an old client. It may be a lot to take in, but by the end of this review, you ll see how unorthodox but strangely fascinating this book really is. In my point of view, this hard boiled novel is a stereotypical agent gone rogue type of circumstance, I also believe it contains mostly analogies. And finally, the fist fights, karma points, and various drugs make the book even more interesting. Despite the fact he is the main character, Metcalf sure has something about him that rubs people the wrong way. Due to the fact he s going against the system more often than not, he gets caught in a scuffle between other inquisitors that work at his office. That s because of Orton Angwine, the number one suspect in the Maynard Stanhunt murder. Orton hires Metcalf to do some digging and prove he s innocent. At first he wasn t interested, but once he finds out there s a lot behind the story than he thought, he persists. Because of his forbidden involvement, Metcalf gets in a variety of fights. And after each punch in the gut, he keeps on his journey to expose the truth. If this book were a movie, I could imagine a smoky bar. A man sitting in the corner, with a cigar, fedora and a trench coat, or even a jazz band playing in the background. This book can definitely give you that kind of vibe. And you might even get lost in that type of setting. If you read this book and find it interesting, it ll be really difficult to put it down. Even when Conrad Metcalf starts to open up about his feelings, especially about Delia. Delia Limetree. She is only referenced once in the whole book, but she definitely strung up a few questions for me. Delia Limetree is a girl who Metcalf dated, or married, who left him. He explains they had an operation done that swapped their nerve endings, as well as genitalia. That part didn t make sense at first, then it dawned on me that it was just one big analogy. He divided these types of constitution into two categories: correct and deviant. These sets tell whether a certain governmentis ruled by one ruler, few rulers, and many rulers. Louis XIV widened his control over higher and provincial nobility by creating the court of aristocrats and summoning the nobles to take up residence in Versailles. This made it easier for him to keep them under his eyes (Spielvogel, P. 509). A major political development inspired by growing nationalism was the alliance of small states into two central new nations: Italy and Germany. Before the second half of the 19th century, Italy was a collection of city states that were only loosely allied with one another. The German Confederation was created by the Congress of Vienna in 1815, but it had been controlled by the Austrian and Prussian Empires. In 1848 major rebellions broke out within the confederation, inspired by liberals who envisioned a German nation ruled by parliamentary government. Face recognition differs from all of the other biometric technologies because the person that is in the picture does not have to cooperate with the process. In all of the other technologies it requires the people to actively participate in the process. In face recognition, the image can be taken without the person even knowing that it took place. The final main biometric technology used is fingerprint recognition. This is definitely the most widely used biometric technology. This type of biometric has been used for many, many years. Because of this, fingerprint recognition has been known as the most primary and accurate identification method used to identify a person. The modern fingerprint recognition is all done electronically. There are two main ways of analyzing fingerprints electronically. The first plots points on the ridges of a person s fingers that enable the computer to compare to different fingerprints. The second method uses patterns of a fingerprint ... • 23. Adaptations Are Broken Into Three Types Of Adaptations INTRODUCTION Adaptations are broken into three types of Adaptations. Structural, Physiological and Behavioural, these types of adaptations differ from one another changing a different aspect of the organism. Structural Adaptations are the change in appearance based on the organism s environment. Physiological Adaptations are the organisms body chemistry, metabolism, and reproductive attributes. Behavior Adaptations are the way in which an organism acts. THE RED KANGAROO The kangaroos ability to hop is a structural adaptation. The kangaroo s leg muscles spring when the kangaroo makes impact with the ground. This transfer from elastic potential energy to kinetic energy saves the kangaroo from using unnecessary energy to cover large distances. (As seen in figure 1) The female kangaroo s efficient breeding cycle also assists them in surviving the harsh environment. They have the ability, when pregnant, to put the growth of the embryo on hold until external conditions improve. This increases the chances of the young surviving. In times of drought, many kangaroos will die but when conditions are good female kangaroos can have three young ones with them at the same time: one as an embryo (not yet born), one in the pouch attached to a teat and one outside the pouch but still drinking the mother s milk. This extreme breeding cycle is a huge physiological adaptation that has allowed the kangaroo to reproduce. A physiological adaptations of the red kangaroos is that they ... The Modigliani Miller clearly postulates that the dividend policy is irrelevant. The value of the assets of FPL should be independent of the financial structure of the firm. Also, the choice of dividend payments or share repurchases should not influence the share price as both methods are ways to distribute cash to the shareholders. However, this is true only in the Modigliani Miller world where there are no costs related to taxes or financial distress. They both defined Roman Catholic doctrine. In their consideration of this doctrine, the Council rejected any compromises with the Protestants. Instead, they strongly reaffirmed traditional Catholic teaching. For example, they declared that the sources of Christian faith were to be found both in the bible and in the traditions of the church. We hypothesize that making one s bed daily promotes good health habits, therefore preventing one from being ill frequently. Due to this, we predict that participants that reportedly make their beds daily will also report fewer instances of being sick per year, with most responses estimated to land around 1 3 times per year. There are some other independent variables that could impact the relationship, such as gender and age, because they too have an influence on the health of a person. Due to this, we asked participants to report that information as well, so we can take it into account when running data tests and drawing conclusions. Results Our independent variable for this study is whether participants make up their beds every morning. The dependent variable for this study is how many times a year participants get sick. Other independent variables recorded were gender and age. We ran a bivariate correlation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay about The Terri Schiavo Case and Euthanasia The poem To the Mercy Killers by Dudley Randall refers to the ongoing debate of the right to live. If ever mercy move you murder me, I pray you, kindly killers, let me live (Randall 623). Here he is most likely referring to doctors as kindly killers who feel that letting him die would be a mercy to him. Randall clearly believes that life is a treasured gift, and should not be purposely extinguished for any reason. However, terminally ill patients should have the right to decide whether they want to die or not. In 2003, much of the American public first became aware of a brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo. On February 25, 1990, Terri Schiavo collapsed in her home from unknown causes. Terri s husband, Michael Schiavo, told... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bush got involved. • 44. Small Rodents Make Wonderful Pets Essays Anyone who has owned one would readily aggree that hamsters, girlbils, and mice provide an owner with hours of amusement and years of companionship. Rabbits are fabulous for those who are looking for a quiet playmate, while rats and ferrets are hyperactive and surprisingly intelligent. Guinea pigs are another very popular choice for a small pet. A website dedicated to guinea pigs boasts on their front page that there is no question that guinea pigs make excellent pets [and are] docile, low maintenance, and unbelievably cute. I strongly beg to differ, unless docile means boring and low maintenance means that you only need to scoop up piggy pellet poop every few minutes. Calling a guinea ... Imagine that your beloved block of wood was once part of a hardy, eighty foot tall tree, who had majestically grown from a tiny acorn in the dense forrests of Canada! Who would want to be introducing a new pet to their friends and say This is Bob and he came from the pet store and well...uhh...that s about it, actually ? The very thought of it is embarassing. Score one for the block of wood. If their pathetic past isn t enough to deter a potential owner from getting a guinea pig, next consider the housing requirements of the creature. Unless planning to allow the guinea pig to rome free in the house, a sturdy (and expensive) cage will be necessary. An absolute bare minimum of two square feet of floor space is required, but very often cages offer four or more square feet of space. The smaller, starter cages can cost anywhere from fourty to eighty dollars, and as the space in the cage increases, so does the price. The cage must be placed with care in a location that is free from direct sunlight and drafts. Bedding, another requirement for a healthy pet, is also costly and is constantly needed (Guinea pigs soil their litter very quickly and efficently, but we ll get to that later). In addition to a cage and bedding, it is also generally a good idea to provide containers for food (hay, scientific pellet mix, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Castro Capella University MBA6008 Global Economic Environment Professor Hadsell February 13, 2013 Introduction Stephen Quinlan and Jose Gomez Ibanez describes, in The Coffee Crisis , that in 2004 the governments of coffee producing countries were considering how to respond to rapid decline to coffee prices. In 2001, coffee prices hit a forty year low, which resulted in extreme hardships for the local farming communities. On that note, this decline in coffee prices was considered the coffee crisis. Market Structure The overall coffee market resembled that of an oligopoly, which is defined as a market dominated by a few large producers of homogeneous or differentiated product. Because of how few exist, oligopolies had considerable control over their prices, but each must consider the possible reaction of rivals to its own pricing, output, and advertising decisions (McConnell, Brue amp; Flynn, 2012, p.223). Oligopolies are also characterized by barriers to market entry (McConnell, Brue amp; Flynn, 2012). Although there were many countries producing and exporting coffee, the market was largely dominated by a few countries (i.e., Brazil, Colombia, and later on, Vietnam). Oligopoly, by its very nature, limits transparency in the market place. Within ten years this country grew from a relatively insignificant producer to the world second largest ahead of Colombia (producing ~11 million bags accounting for 10% world export) but behind Brazil (producing ~35 million bags accounting for 35% world export) producing well over 11 million bags annually and accounting for approximately 12% of world exports (CRB, 2006).
