Sample Medical Recommendations
The following report is being submitted early to include the most up to date medical
recommendations.
7/6/16 I met Mr. Abraham at the office of Dr. Yacisen. Mr. Abraham arrived using a can and
wearing the leg brace. There is swelling to the ankle and some tenderness to the surrounding
knee. He rates his pain at a 1 and a 5 with some movements. The range of motion is limited. We
also asked Dr. Yacisen to address the left shoulder pain. Range of motion there is good and the
pain has decreased since he stopped using the walker. Recommendations are to stop using the knee
brace, stop using the cane unless he is on uneven surfaces, continue physical therapy and add
strengthening. Start physical therapy for the left shoulder. Dr. Yacisen said he is almost sure Mr.
Abraham will not need surgery but will know more at the 90 day point.

Loneliness in Cannery Row, by John Steinbeck
As night falls on Cannery Row actuality and fear overwhelms the souls as they lay awake at
night. At this very moment they are alone to think to ponder their existence their importance their
meaning. During the day the things the people of Cannery Row use to fill their void. To give
them happiness is gone and for those long hours of the night they are truly alone. The cats, the
parties, and companions are gone just for a second. But they return in the morning to calm the
weary and the broken spirits of the people in Cannery Row. Each of us just like the people in

Although Frankie has never had much love he knows what it means and he finds it in Doc. With
Doc he is not alone. Doc is his protection, his comforter. He is also a father figure who he looks
up to. Undoubtedly Doc and Frankie share something and it is there intellectual capacities. Their
intellect predisposes them to a certain form of loneliness. It is of course on the opposite
spectrum. Doc is highly and unusually intelligent while Frankie is on the slow side. They find it
hard to fit in with the people of Cannery Row because they cannot find a place where they fit in
intellectually. We can all think back to the smart kid or who we would refer to as the nerd in
high school. They were the kids who always sat alone at lunch who did not go to dances or
social events. Never got asked to prom and had very little friends. If you are too smart you are a
nerd and if you are too slow you are dim witted. Therefore is safe to say intelligence plays a huge
role in loneliness. Doc chooses to be to put all his time and effort into his work which brings him
true happiness. Without Western Biological doc would feel alone and isolated. Western
Biological fills the void in his life. Although Doc has not reached self actualization all his basic
needs have been met. He is satisfied with where he is. No doubt Cannery Row is known for its
parties. Yes this can be looked upon negatively. Cannery row is filled with hoboes,

William Browning And Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay
The Two Authors Different Perspective Literatures in the Victorian Era
Many authors are influenced by the society, culture, politic and economy during their period.
Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly.
The two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the
condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works. The authors are married couple
authors of the Victorian era. Roberts Browning s a typical literary work is My Last Duchess.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s one of the most famous work is Aurora Leigh. In the two poems, the
authors mainly focus on the different gender roles. Even though the two Victorian era literatures,
Aurora Leigh and My Last Duchess, demonstrate the social issue, which is a sexual discrimination
during the Victorian era, each author emphasizes the seriousness of the issue by using different
perspectives on women s roles and positions. My Last Duchess, which was written by Roberts
browning demonstrates the horrible condition of the Victorian society by exposing the author s
perspective on the genders role in the Victorian era. The book, the literature of the Victorian era,
defines the poem a perfect picture of cold blooded heartlessness, a thing possible in any age though
fortunately (Hugh 427). The poem clearly shows the dreadful social condition for a woman in the
Victorian era. According to the author, Michael O Neill,

The Problem Of Violence And Violence
In the modern age, many problems can be solved quickly and effectively by having a thoughtful
discussion with both belligerents. However, depending on the severity of the problem, the direness
of the situation, and the time one has to react, a violent solution may be the only option. There are
those who believe that violenceshould be abhorred and never resorted to, but those who think that
are optimistic dreamers who are living in a false reality. Of course, if everyone shared their
viewpoint, fights may never occur, but one has to accept the fact that some people will just
refuse to stand down or accept something other than exactly what they want. This is why a level
headed person with a strong moral compass needs to be able to recognize when a situation calls
for a peaceful diplomatic solution, or, if diplomacy fails, a call to action. Violence can solve
problems, is used in politics, employed by police, and is expressed through American superheroes.
While violence is not the only way out of problems, sometimes it is the best reasonable solution.
Those who succumb to the idea to use violence to achieve their goals will generally overcome
their less confrontational challengers overturning the results of elections, riding wildly over
peaceful expressions of political opinion. Most of the time, the mere threat of violence is enough to
induce submission. Violent groups can usually be defeated only by enemies who use superior force
against them, which is why, in order to

History of the Eucharist
History of the Eucharist The Sacrament of Eucharist is the most frequently received Sacraments in
the Catholic Church. The matter in the Sacrament of Eucharist is the bread and wine, which
changes into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The Sacrament of Eucharist is dated in the Bible
as far back to the Old Testament, indirectly as the Israelites flee from Egypt in the desert, and God
gives them manna to eat. This happens multiple times while the Israelites are searching for the
Promised Land. The most important part of the Bible when the Eucharistis received, is when Jesus
and the Apostles are at the Last Supper. Through the Sacrament of Eucharist, Jesus breaks the
bread and passes it around to his apostles. Then, Jesus says that one of them will betray him, and
whoever dips the bread in the wine at the same time he does will be the one who will betray him.
As we know Judas was the one who betrayed him, and must have been the one to dip the bread in
the wine at the same time as Jesus. Even though all the Gospel writers wrote about Jesus Matthew,
Mark, and Luke wrote about the meal Jesus had with his Apostles the night before his death, not
John. Between the Resurrection of Jesus, and the conversion of the Emperor Constantine to
Christianity. During this period of time in the Roman Empire, people who were Christians, were
persecuted in public, just because of their beliefs. Christians had made a modification to having to

Analysis Of Teachers, Students, And Sleep By Dave Stuart Jr.
This week s article was Teachers, Students, and Sleep by Dave Stuart Jr. It discusses the
importance of sleep to both teachers and students, and ways to make sure they get the best sleep
to succeed each day. According to the article, sleep can be easily thrown off, especially by late
night snacking. Also, the article states, one of the most valuable and overlooked aspects of sleep
is an operation called memory processing, which is a part of REM sleep. The bad thing is, these
snack before bed disrupt this REM sleep, making our quality of sleep much worse. Another key
role in getting better sleep is regularity, which is one of the most important factors in how well
people sleep. It has also been proven that sleep impacts performance. As

My Life As A Social Worker
While walking to work I was pondering to my self why I wanted to be a social worker. As a young
man I have always wanted more out of life. I grew up in a small farm town North side of the
border of Mexico. I am the oldest of three children (two sisters). My parents were both working
with the school district, my father a teacher/coach, my mothera social worker. My parents were well
educated and believed in obtaining an education. They taught me school is a great way to
enhance my life. I did well in my early years of my education, but life is the greatest teacher above
all else.
My parents divorced during the first year of high school then my mother became ill with cancer.
My life shifted from son to caregiver, at the early age of fourteen I had to get an emergency
driver license to drive my mother to chemo and everywhere she needed to go. While she was
taking her treatments in a town an hour away I did my homework in the waiting room. I tried to
maintain a high GPA to get in to a good school. It was a tough ordeal and heart wrenching
challenge that shook me to my core. I was there for her and helped clean our house and I drove
my sisters to school when my mother couldn t. At school I dove into books and I spent most of
my time in the library.Unfortunately she couldn t make it, my mother fought hard for a year and a
half but it was her time. This would strengthen my resolve to become someone she could be proud
of. After the funeral my aunt moved in with us after a

Chinese Philosophy Essay
Three areas of philosophy emerged amidst the chaos and constant warring of the Zhou era. The
three were called Confucianism, Daoism, and legalism. They were Chinese philosophies that
were thought to be the best ways to rule and achieve order in the society. Confucianism believed
that a ruler s job was to set a good example, and not order. Since people were thought of as
naturally good, they would following the right path based on their own conscience. Legalism was
a more harsh way of ruling, led by Hanfeizi. They thought people were evil, and needed strict laws
and punishment to keep them in line. Daoism was very different from either of the other two. It
was led by Laozi, who taught that the best kind of government was one who governed... Show more

At first, Confucianism was unsuccessful and Confucius, during his lifetime only managed to collect
a few followers. After his death, however, his followers passed on the Confucian tradition. It
survived, with a few changes, to the Han dynasty (221 BC) and became established as China s
official philosophy. From then it was firmly well established in Chinese culture, and its values can
still be seen today. The Five Classics of Confucianism were works from the Zhou Dynasty, which
preceded the Warring States Period. They were collected and edited by members of the original
Confucian school. After Confucianism became the official state philosophy, one had to know the
philosophy well in order to gain the coveted position of government official.
The Analects are a collection of sayings by Confucius, recorded by his disciples. As a result, the
Analects are not a widespread proposal of Confucianism. Rather, it is a collection of quotations and
stories. Because of this, Confucianism according to Confucius is open to interpretation. The main
idea of the philosophy is, righteousness, relationships and generosity towards others. Since the time
of the Han dynasty (206 CE) four life passages have been recognized and regulated by Confucian
tradition. There are approximately 6 million Confucians in the world. About 26,000 live

Vietnamese communist lost the Tet Offensive it is still being used by our enemies. The Tet story

(Robbins50). By Robbins stating that the story line is always lurking Robbins is letting readers

Payers For The Stolen Analysis
It s important to determine which surroundings work best for you, and then build that environment
to suit your needs (Henner). We learn from and adapt to our environment. We choose whether or
not to let our environment change us for the better or the worse. Payers for the Stolen character
Ladydi Garcia Martinez is a prime example of how your environment shapes the way you act and
who you become in the future. Crime, friendships, poverty, death, genderbarriers and infinite other
events that have been the controlling environment in which she has lived.
At birth we are told to nurture our children by their biological nature. It has long been believed by
the scientific community that the gender identity of a child was determined by the child s
upbringing, surrounding environment, and the way the child was treated during growth (Bader).
Girls are taught to be lady like, to have clean hair and nails. To be polite and obey and more.

Poverty was not little in the area of which she lived. All of the men that lived on their mountain
would travel to Mexico City and Acapulco for work. They would send money back to their

was a bartender at a hotel. Her mother was mostly home with her and created somewhat of a single
parent environment until her farther came home and until he left and never came back.
Our environments help us create character and personality. We choose whether to live in the life
in which is made and shaped for us or use that life to create a better you. We hold our own future
in our hands. We can make them bad or good. We can make them to benefit or break us, but either
way we control how we let it shape our future. Don t let your environment write you end. Only let it

Dead Poets Society Many poets and directors believe in the concept of living life to the fullest. In
this quote, by Sir Henry David Thoreau, he shows that we should live life to its fullest and make
sure we make our mark while we still can, so people remember us. In the Movie, Dead Poets

When you look back at your life and realize that you have not taken full advantage of your
opportunities your whole life, you will realize that you may not have lived as good as you could
have. Many people feel that taking full advantage of your life will lead to not regretting a thing
in the future. The way Professor Keating taught was successful in the way that he made his
students realize that they need to live their own lives. . An example is when he teaches the boys
Carpe Diem (Seize the day). In the movie, Tim repeatedly says that when he is trying to win over
a girl. Keating is successful because he teaches Tim to go after what he wants and Tim was
persistent enough to keep at it and winds up getting her. Another example is when Neil decides
to be an actor in a play. Even though his father is against it, Neil does is anyway cause he knows
he has what it takes and he feels he has nothing to lose. I feel that if Keating did not teach his
students to be themselves, Neil would have never gone against his father and he would have
never enjoyed his life. When Neil kills himself at the end I think the blame is on his father
because he would not let him do what he wants to do in his heart, he wasn t being supportive of his
sons wants. I feel that Keating had a very positive influence on him. Because of Keatings teachings,
his students learned to live their own lives to the fullest. Professor

Jap The End Of World War II
At the end of World War II, the United States took occupation of Japan in an under the pretext of
leading the nation toward a path of democracy. However, it appears that the intent of the United
States has changed over time. Instead of helping Japan in the years after WWII, the United States
used Japan as a pawn to better its own interests. In 1946, General MacArthur the Supreme
Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) asked United Statescitizens to take the responsibility of
writing a new constitution for Japan. There was not a single Japanese person asked to help with the
constitutions development. This made it so that the Japanese identity could not fully be seen within

When the proposition was given to include these issues, the majority of the group white males
found that the proposal went farther that our own constitution and was unnecessary to be included.
This decision was made after it was brought to their attention that many other countries at the time
had integrated these issues into their own constitution. The focus of the constitutional meetings
were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific
Ocean. To better manifest this image, the Unites States decided that it would be best if Japan
remained militarized. This demilitarization came in the form of Article 9, which stated that Japan
could not have an armed military force for forever. Without an army of their own, the United States
implemented their own troops and negotiated for there to be permanent bases in Japan; a constant
reminder of the influence and power of the United States. Once the constitution was implemented,
Japan began to change, however many of these changes were because of a United States backing.
One can see these changes if they look to the media of the time. Before the United States, cinema
had many restrictions and mostly portrayed to the military state. After the US occupation, American
movies were introduced which had more risquГ© topics. This new form of media had great favor

War Heroes History
For me, this answer is easy; I would not exist and I don t think we would either. Wars aren not
only fought by soldiers, but sometimes also by bankers. It is not the warriors who fight for our
freedom everyday, but by ordinary citizens with a warrior spirit. They are our neighbors, nurses,
night watchmen and news reporters who heard our nation s cry for help and stood up to answer
that call. Sisters, brothers, moms and dads to someone who love them very much as we all do.
They embody the fighting spirit inside all Americans in every home across our nation. When
asked to think of veterans, images of historical war heroes are often the first to flash into
someone s mind. So many know the history of Dan Daly, a famous Marine Sergeant who
endangered himself to save his wounded comrades and was recommended for the Medal of
Honor three separate times. There is Molly Pitcher and Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen and even
George Washington. One might even think of more contemporary heroes like Santiago Erevia,
Melvin Morris or most recently, USN Seal Edward Byers. All these heroes are famous for being
battle hardened generals and masters of the battlefield or commanders on the high seas. It is almost
universally agreed upon that these people are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay About Monsters
Monsters. They appear in nightmares, under beds, and in the distance lurking around. This is how
the world perceives monsters, but according to Webster dictionary it s a powerful person or thing

every day because they make up who someone is. They re everywhere, in plain sight and other
times disguised, sometimes it s easier to see some more than others. Every monster has malicious
ways even if it s not intentional, it s humanreaction, from little behaviors to extreme ones.
Some might feel like monsters were put here to destroy and tear humanity down, and that they ve
been that way since the beginning of their known creation. However, this is not true. To give a

English Professor that acts as a guide, a teacher, to Guy Montag. Montag initially seeks out Faber
to find more about books, as he caught Faber once with something that seemed to be of literature.
He spoke in rhyme and rhythm, perhaps familiar with poetry and other literary devices. Montag
wanted a copy of the bible to read and decipher, thus requesting one from Faber, having obtained
his contact information from his last encounter. Montag insists for a copy of the Bible, even

Faber is both amazed and surprised at the courage Montag has to seek him out. Montag insists
that Faber is the only person that can help him figure out and decipher what he is reading. Faber
reminisces about the old smell of books as well as Christ, who has become a different character
in their present day media. He also labels himself as a coward, for not being able to stop all the
burning of books when it first started. At this point of time, Farber becomes more of a teacher to
Montag rather than just a mere consultant. Faber explains that Montag seeks knowledge, not the
books themselves but what s inside them. Faber believe that books are feared because they record
history and life and that people need leisure time to think, which people did not have the
enjoyment at the time. He believes burning books is foolish, because it removes the knowledge
and wisdom that they contain from people. He also believes that people need to react and change
from the present day society. Faber also acts as an acquaintance to Montag s plans. Immediately
after Faber s explanations, Montag agrees and wants to start a rebellion, wanting to steal books and
reprint them. Faber continues to be a guide and consultant for Montag, continuing to exchange

The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay
Most often, people have an image in their mind when they think of detectives, whether the image
is a man in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass, a beloved childhood character like Nancy
Drew or the Hardy Boys, or the classic Victorian detective. While all of these may hold true, one
specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with
images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or
what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and
set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each
convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his
writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story.
Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which
acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism.
In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place,
London and Dartmoor. London is where the story begins, where Sherlock and Watson are first
introduced to the case, and where things first start to seem peculiar. Though these first events that
set up the mystery of the novel take place in London, London is a symbol of

The future of Gi Fi is traced in section 7. Finally, conclusions are presented in Section 7.
The GiFi chip is the first transceiver in the world that is integrated on a single chip and operates at
60GHz on the
CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) process and delivers short range multi gigabit
data transfer in an indoor environment. It is a complete wireless system on a single integrated
circuit that provides around ten times the bandwidth at one tenth the cost of existing technologies
such as Bluetooth and Wi Fi. The integration of the existing technologies is shown in fig. 3.

Comparing The Epics And The Epic Heroes
Comparison of the Epics In every epic, there are common themes that present themselves
throughout the story, such as war. The epics Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Mahabharata, share
similar characteristics in terms of their strength, values, and journeys. In each of the epics that will
be discussed, there is the occurrence of fighting for honor and to have a legacy. The epic heroes
follow many of the guidelines that Joseph Campbellhas written in his book Herowith a Thousand
Faces. Joseph Campbell believed that the stages of a hero were to have a call to adventure, he is
introduced in his ordinary world, he is hesitant and may not want to fulfill his mission, the
person is encouraged by someone old and wise, the person is committed to their journey, there
are tests and people to help the hero, the hero faces his last, challenging quest, he potentially
faces death, the hero survives his journey and is rewarded in some way, he has a journey back to
his home and could face more danger, the hero is transformed by his experience, and the hero
brings back treasures. Gilgamesh shows the characteristics of hero according to Joseph Campbell
because he faces many challenging quests in particular his most dangerous is going to the king
and queen of (idk) (where) to find the secret of immortality, Gilgamesh survives his journey back
from (where), Gilgamesh is transformed because he becomes less shellfish, on the journey home

Hansberry Tales. In A Time Of Immense Racial Strife, Lorraine
Hansberry Tales
In a time of immense racial strife, Lorraine Hansberry a well respected African American author,
civil rights and sexual equality advocate wrote some of the most influential works of her time.
Tenacious and resilient, Hansberry explicitly shared her views on sexual identity, racerelationships
and identity. Being a successful, black, woman playwright during the 1900 s meant that she had
encountered not only racism in her time, but also had to go through deciding just what being black
meant during the Civil Rights Movement. A Raisin in the Sun follows a black family in Chicago,

In her work, Hansberry frequently addresses the strained, sensitive topic of race relations. She
comments on the extensive, prolonged and painful tension between black and white people that still
exists today. In her play Les Blancs, a scholarly African man Tshembe, returns from Europe to
Africa to attend his father s memorial service. His home is imbued with the intense hatred that is
a result of the ongoing struggle between European colonies and those native to Africa, strongest
around a small, make shift hospital made by missionaries. There is underlying tension between
him and the white colonists at first. There are a few snide remarks that him and the colonist
casually woven into every conversation they have. Very quickly, their implicit hatred warps into a
full blown feud. Most of the colonists believe that Africa is their rightful home since the Africans
had it for so long and did nothing with it (90). The colonist had a specific standard of civilization
which Africa did not meet. Therefore, when the colonist got there and started to form Africa into
something that loosely resembled their homeland, they felt that they were entitled to Africa.
Additionally, they believe that there is sacredness of a white life (105) and that white people must

Racism In The American Dream
Racism thrives on an individual s ability to dehumanize another. Too make them feel as if you
are not anyone, worthless, you are not worth you (Rankin, 139). The reality is that some view
you as not worth the same dignity and respect as everyone else simply by virtue of the color of
your skin. That it is acceptable to be forced into the center of attention only to receive micro
aggressions against you simply for existing. That it is acceptable to not be recognized, to be
brushed aside, to be perceived as not worthy enough for any form of positive attention. To see the
terrible truth of life that one cannot will themselves to escape on their own (Letter to My Son).
Collectively, as a society, we must commit to change in order to allow everyone to achieve the so
called American dream .
The dream that allows individuals to be made to feel most colored when they are thrown against
a sharp white background (Rankin, 53). In which many suddenly find themselves in a state of
hypervisibility where minorities are subtly or unknowingly degraded. The woman in my story

The Idle No More Movement
Friedrich Nietzsche is a German philosopher that has a great influence on Western philosophy.
One of his works called On the Genealogy of Morals discusses an overlying theme of superiority
and power as well as good and bad . This book discusses the difference that the power that
superior people have compared the the weak and poor. Nietzsche exemplifies how the powerful
seem to forget about issues that do not pertain to themselves where as the weak fight for the
issues (Nietzsche, 2007, pp 14). This idea of the powerful overlooking the weak in On the
Genealogy of Morals, directly relates to the Idle No More movement. The Idle No More movement

The Canadian government has continually entered indigenous protected land to have diamond,
gold, and oil mines, as well as run oil pipelines. These operations have given the Canadian
government billions of profits. Unfortunately, only little of that profit gained by the Canadian
government is given to the aboriginal peoples. I believe that that the fact that the Canadian
government is profiting off of illegal activity and not sharing a large portion of the profits with
the rightful owners of the resources is wrong. This action and lack of respect for the law goes
directly against Nietzsche s idea of utilitarianism. Nietzsche describes the idea of utilitarianism
as involving how we ought to be made of finer stuff than Utilitarianism (Lecture, 2016). He
describes it as a pursuit of pleasure and good that has a positive and maximized effect for the
majority of people (Lecture, 2016). This idea is how indigenous people live their life. They live
their life so that the future generations can use the same land as they used it. If one person were
to destroy the land for the pursuit of profit, then it should create wealth for the greater number of
people. Christoff s article on Idle No More exemplifies this when Chief Spence says great riches
are being taken from our land for the benefit of a few, including the government of Canada and
Ontario, who receive large royalty payments, while we receive so little, outlines Chief

The Role Of Virtual Teams And Challenges
Introduction Nowadays, we are currently in the era of advanced information technology, in which
people depend on technologies in order to facilitate their life, such as mobile phone, computer or
internet. Indeed, innovative technology plays an important role in developing tools for remote and
global communication, which help people communicate to each other easier regardless of distance.
According to Reiche (2013), as firms incessantly expand their business globally, there are
considerable number of workers having to work separately from different locations as well as time
zone. Consequently, the virtual teamstrategy, which is a group of employees working with a great
distance from each other, come up in order to allow companies having capability to manage their
own employees being able to collaborate intensively through innovative technologies, for instance
videoconferencing, email, Skype or online project managementsoftware (Schilling, 2012). In this
paper, I will discuss about effectiveness of virtual teams and challenges that have to face of people
working in different locations and geographies. Moreover, identifying pros and cons of associating
with virtual teams and co located teams or traditional teams. And I will expound how I apply virtual

Carboniferous Research Paper
The carboniferous period lasted from about 359.2 to 299 million years ago, during the Paleozoic
era. The name carboniferous came from the large amounts of carbon bearing coal that was
formed during the period. Several major biological, geological, and climatic events occurred at
this time. The amniote egg allowed further exploitation for certain tetrapods. It enabled ancestors
of birds, mammals, and reptiles to lay their eggs on land without fear of being dehydrated. The
carboniferous period was divided into two major subdivisions, the Mississippian and the
Pennsylvanian. The Mississippian was the early half and the Pennsylvanian being the last half.
Climatically there was a trend towards mild temperatures The beginning of the carboniferous

climate may have been a result of the large expanse of ocean that covered the surface of the globe,

The Restoration Of Grecian Philosophical Documents
The Preservation of Grecian Philosophical Documents Was an Important Islamic Contribution to
Western Civilization
Islamic preservation and translation of the Greek philosophical works of Aristotle, and Plato
contributed to the flourishing of Western civilization. Under the direction of Islamic cultural
patrons, they translated these vital texts from Greek into other languages. Such actions were
significantly contributive to the revival and transmission of these pieces, bringing about their
subsequent spread throughout Europe. Centuries of Islamic scholarship like this were crucial to the
eventual emergence of the European Renaissance Period.
The anterior exposure of the Arab world to Greek philosophy follows paths reaching back to the
sixth century C.E. A common occurrence among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, were their
interactions with Greek philosophy, and their attempts to reconcile their religious dogmas with the
Greek philosophical known truths of reason; trying to marry faith with reason. Commonalities
between their interactions produced a naturally occurring process of sharing respective religious
and philosophical problems, and it is in the latter that Islamic philosophers deserve much credit
from Judaism and Christianity, for the Abbasid caliphate s deference to translation and preservation
of key Aristotelian (and other) works long lost to the West. The irony of this sharing between
religions remains that each was using the similar material to try and prove

Who Is Colin Powell s Thirteen Rules

in 2012, is an account of Powell s life experiences from childhood, to his role of leadership as
Secretary of State. He recalls his highs and lows, turning points, and even days he was ready to
give it all up. He addresses real world issues and circumstances that put our country in war. He
goes on to talk about leaders and the styles they possess, and what he liked and did not and then

What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act
In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the
colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper
had to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and
playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants,
printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act
was not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that
initiated the first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to
their counterparts in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British
colonists in America felt deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to
representation. Per the unwritten British Constitution, only representatives for whom British
subjects voted could taxthem . Although the British Parliament imposed taxes and was the
representative body of the colonists, the colonists did not have actual or direct representation in it.

Melodrama Research Paper
Naturalism is defined by the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms (1990) as a more deliberate kind
of realism in novels, stories, and plays, usually involving a view of human beings as passive
victims of natural forces and social environment (Baldick, p.221). The dictionary states that
naturalistic dramain particular usually has a broader application, denoting a very detailed illusion
of real life on the stage, especially in speech, costume, and sets (Baldick, p.221). On the other hand,
melodramais defined as a popular form of sensational drama that flourished in the 19th century
theatre [...] the modern sense of melodrama derives: an emotionally exaggerated conflict of pure
maidenhood and scheming villainy in a plot full of suspense (Baldick, p.201). Melodrama came
before naturalistic drama, in the early nineteenth century, but was taken over in popularity in the
late nineteenth/ early twentieth century by realismand naturalistic drama.
The term melodrama originated from the early nineteenth century French word mГ©lodrame,
which is derived from Greek melos, which means melody, and French drame, which means drama.
Moreover, many of the elements of melodrama are thought to have originated in the fifth century
B.C. Melodrama emerged from eighteenth century sentimental dramas in Germany and France that
involved music, and became popular between the seventeen eighties and the seventeen nineties,
with its popularity lasting until the early twentieth century. In terms of early European theatre, the
term melodrama was used to describe scenes of mime or dialogue which were accompanied by
music. However, the more modern definition in the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms comes
from the early nineteenth century, where the melodramatic plays being performed in London were
somewhat simplified adaptations of Gothic novels. Melodrama means song drama in Greek, so
therefore the use of music is understandably a very important feature. It is used to the increase
emotions of the audience, as well as to signify different characters. Pisani says in his essay Music
for the theatre: style and function in incidental music that:
Music [was] used to assist the actors in establishing and sustaining the emotional pitch

Complex organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler
cousins. While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the
increased complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling

While contraction in skeletal muscle is triggered by motor neurons under central control, certain
cardiac muscle variants exhibit autorhythmicity. This means that that they are capable of
producing their own depolarizing electrical potential. The cardiomyocytes that are capable of
producing their own electrical potentials are found in what is referred to as the electrical condition
system of the heart. This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic
and are able to conduct electrical potentials rapidly. These specialized structures include the
sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node and bundle, and Purkinje fibers. While the bulk of the heart is
myocardium, there are structural components that are pertinent. The four cardiac valves can be

The Federal Reserve System Is The Central Banking System...

The Federal Reserve System is the central banking system of the United States. The Federal
Reserve System is there to help out when a series of financial hardships and panics happen in our
economy. One of the leading changes in the Fed system was the Great Depression. This put the
economy in a lot of stress and the banking system in a crisis. There were three objectives for the
monetary policy. The three objectives were to increase employment, target the discount rate, and
monitor the interest rates. The first two objectives can also be known as the Federal Reserve s dual

Purpose
The most important purpose for the Federal Reserve System in our economy is to address any
banking hardships and panics/crisis. Some other reasons are to furnish a flexible currency and to
establish a more effective supervision of banking. In today s world, the financial systems stability
is the Federal Reserve s responsibility.
Current functions of the Federal Reserve System include:
To serve as the central bank for the United States
To address the problem of banking hardships and panics
To manage the nation s money supply through monetary policy
1.Increase employment
2.Stabilize prices, including prevention of either inflation or deflation
3.Monitor long term interest rates
To create a balance between private interests banks and the centralized government
1.To oversee and normalize banking institutions
2.To look after the credit rights of consumers
To strengthen the U.S. economy
To maintain stability of the financial system and contain universal threats of the financial markets

In the United States, the Federal Reserve serves as the lender of last resort to those organizations
that can t obtain credit elsewhere. Obviously if the Fed were to collapse, there would be serious

Essay On Pertussis
1.0Introduction
This paper discusses the condition pertussis with regard to its prevalence in Australia and the
United States. It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations.
Despite a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO,
2010).
2.0Definition of pertussis
Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory
tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most
commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long
lasting wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010),
and often vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are
transmitted by airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and,
consequently, the infection is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). Pertussis has a 7 10 day
incubation period and the disease can last from 6 8 weeks and is therefore notably ... Show more

They can determine whether patients require vaccinations through access to medication records or
inferred diagnosis made when reviewing prescription records (Bach Goad, 2015). Their traditional
role is distributing medication, but they may also provide immunisations, such as the Tdap vaccine
which is supplied by pharmacies in 43 states in the U.S. (Mills, Fensterheim, Taitel, Cannon, 2014).
By supplying vaccines, pharmacies make immunisation more convenient by providing a solution to
a significant barrier for immunisation, this being ease of access (Mills et al., 2014). In addition,
they may also be involved in educating their community on available vaccines and where to go to
obtain them, further reducing this barrier in the local community (Bach Goad,

What Is The Sorcerer s Description Of Allan
The Sorcerer s Apprentice is a complex read and has many layers of information that one must
navigate through. For instance, I believe the sorcerer chose Allan as his apprentice because of
his father Richard Jackson. Richard was a man that did not show many emotions and keep them
under control even when time were difficult. I think the sorcerer saw the same potential in Allan
at first, but could also see Allan s eagerness to please. That is why the Sorcerer would only assign
Allan normal daily chores at first. The Sorcerer wanted Allan to remain humble and believed
making Allan perform normal day to day chores were a perfect lesson. However, Allan did not
interpret the lesson as such and believed he had either done something wrong or was not the
apprentice the Sorcerer had hoped for. When Allan confronted the Sorcerer about his feeling... Show

And you wish to do good, but you can t be too faithful, or too eager, or the good becomes evil .
(Pg. 130) When analyzing the Sorcerer s words, I notice there is a lot of meaning in the few
words spoken. First, when he stated you are the best of students, he wished to acknowledge
Allans potential as a person not only as a sorcerer. The Sorcerer understood the fine line between
good and bad (a.k.a evil) when working the craft and how crossing the line was easy especially if
the person had good intentions. For example, at the end of the story, Allan wish to call the demon
to destroy himself because he felt unworthy. He no longer believed in himself, I am only that, a
student, the one who studies beauty, who wishes to give it back, but who

Figurative Language In Blackberry-Picking
Blackberry Picking is a short poem consisting of two uneven stanzas; brief and concise. The poet
s use of flashback is to give context and insight of his life back at the farm. The length of the
poem does not take away from the experience as the poet is able to successfully express not only a
literal description of picking berries but the intensity in doing so. Although the poet portrays intense
longing through varied use of figurative language he is devoid from the intricacies of style and
structure on how the poem is overall presented. To be able to understand the poet s purpose, one
must not only look into the content but also delve into the structure of the literary work. It is
evident that the poet uses many techniques such as alliteration;... Show more content on

The vivid imagery and intimate language used to convey the intensive labor also creates
ambiguity because the poet explicitly describes his experience without elaboration. This is all
done whilst exploring multiple abstruse themes such as adolescence, greed, and death; all
portrayed through the simplicity in the act of picking blackberries. There are many ways to
interpret the blackberries. The cycle of growth the blackberries as they go through maturation; as
the poet states, ... the blackberries would ripen (2) and describe, You ate the first one and its
flesh was sweet... Leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for picking (5; 7) subtly referring to the
poet s curiosity of women and sexual maturation. Because the poem is obscure and vague with its
meaning, one might consider multiple metaphors, such as: hunger, gluttony, self control. In lines 9
and 12, Sent us out with milk cans, pea tins, jam pots... We trekked and picked until the cans were
full, using exaggeration to portray the excessive amounts the speaker hordes in the barn. The
speaker knows no restraint; instead of picking the berries in moderation becomes greedy and
realizes in his disappointment that all of the berries have rotted. The speaker makes a peculiar
allusion to the tale of Bluebeard and his wives who were unable to repress their curiosity, ultimately,

In my analysis of the Jieliang Phone Home case group project, I am going to focus on how
personality conflicts and individual differences had affected our final delivered product. Using
research and analysis of the faults in my group, I am going to show that lack of communication,
dysfunctional conflicts and more, has caused our group to underperform. Research showed that
traits of the big five has a different influence on team performance. The relationships between traits

up goals and discuss how we are going to handle this case. The second meeting was after all team
members read the case and we were meeting to divide work and set responsibilities for each
group member. The third meeting was after the class in which we got further instructions on
what the professor is looking for in our presentations and reports. In this meeting, we have set
new responsibilities and divided new responsibilities for each member. The fourth meeting was
during reading week where each team member uploaded his part of the project and we went
through what should we add or remove from the project. The fifth and last meeting was on the last
weekend before handing in the project and it also was the day where the video was prepared (See
Exhibit 2). Between meetings the group communicated through GroupMe app and shared files
through Google Drive and Google Mail (Gmail). Firstly, examining the nature of the meetings and
the communication between the group members will help to understand what factors have limited
the team s performance. The main factor that had a negative effect on the team performance was
the communication process. During and between meetings, the discussion was led by students 4
and 5. Early in the group work, new ideas that were presented by students 1, 2 and 3 were denied
by students 4 and 5. This type of incidents that had

Unemployment Rate In Macroeconomics
Written by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, Macroeconomics states, In general, the
unemployment rate is a good indicator of how easy or difficult it is to find a job given the current
state of the economy (Krugman and Wells 219). A New York Times article, Strong Unemployment
News Bolsters Case for Fed to Raise Rates written by Reuters, talks about how unemployment rate
benefits are holding steady with a steady labor market and how job openings are rising, which is
encouraging the Federal Reserve to higher interest rates. As explained in Macroeconomics, by

As explained in Macroeconomics, by Krugman and Wells, In structural unemployment, more
people are seeking jobs in a particular labor market than there are jobs available at the current
wage rate, even when the economy is at the peak of the business cycle (Krugman and Wells 227).
If the government believes that this is the case in which the unemployment rate will not continue
to decrease but instead rise, then the economy could face the costs of disinflation. The Christian
Science Monitor journalist Mike Tokars wrote, Sanders and O Malley: Raise Minimum Wage to
$15. Is it feasible which talks about how in the democratic debates on Saturday, November 14,
Bernie Sanders and Martin O Malley agreed that raising the Federal minimum wage to $15 would
be a stimulant to the economy and give the people of the United States more disposable income.
This article also shows that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton disagrees and suggests that
would create more job loss and a higher unemployment rate. If you look at the Republican side and
Democratic Hillary Clinton who is more conservative regarding economic policies this article
supports the notion that the Federal Reserve believes higher minimum wage will create structural
unemployment and will result in a higher unemployment rate over

Socio Analysis Essay
The term socio analysis is a term that is used to describe the way sociologists analyzes certain
traits about an object, object being the person or persons being studied. Socio analysis is the
activity of exploration, consultancy, and action research which combines and synthesizes
methodologies and theories derived from psychoanalysis, group relations, social systems thinking,
organizational behavior, and social dreaming, (Bain). The use of socio analysis has been very
beneficial to understand society and the people that make up societies. Jane s statuses include

Music Piracy Essay
Music Piracy: From the Pirates Perspective
I don t wear a black patch over my eye. I don t have any missing limbs, replaced by a hook or a
wooden leg that clicks when I walk. I have never owned a parrot; I don t have a cool name like
Black Beard or Calico Jack; I don t even have a big, black hat. Though I lack all the defining
characteristics, I am a pirate. My ship is a laptop computer and my booty is not measured by
dollars and cents, but by precious kilobytes. With the aide of my spy glass, the KaZaa Media
Desktop, I discern my next target. Wielding my trusty mouse, I make a few clicks, issue commands,
board ship, and hijack the music recording industry, claiming yet another copyrighted song as my
own.

I sacrificed blood, sweat, and hours upon hours of my life, all for my love of music. After
graduating high school, I packed my bags, and my CD cases, and headed off to college. Then
disaster struck.
When I arrived at my new home, I immediately scoured the streets, searching for a music store. I
found the only location in the area and excitedly perused the selection. When I picked up a copy of
the new Red Hot Chili Peppers CD, I was shocked. CD prices had spiked up to $18 and $19. Such
a price was unthinkable considering the new list of expenses that came with being on my own.
Devastated, I was forced to go home empty handed, defeated by the industry I had supported
since I was a kid. For the next two years I brooded over my dilemma, unable to satisfy my
musical craving. As new albums continued to come out, I was forced to rely on the radio, and that
was no way to live. Then one day my friend introduced me to KaZaa, and everything changed.
Napster had already been shut down, so at first I was timid. I knew sharing music was illegal,
but millions of other people were doing the same thing; and besides, after years of support, these
musicians owed me. I typed in Red Hot Chili Peppers, and soon I had a huge list of songs in
front of me. I clicked on Californication and watched my computer seize the promise of new
music, a few kilobytes at a time. When it finished, I listened to the song as loud as I could, just to

Bacon has been credited through creating the scientific techniques, illustrations of this are apparent

Bacon (544) notes that for every person (notwithstanding the errors which are common to the
human nature) has a den or a cave of their own, which discolors and refracts the light of the nature.
Every person has their own preferences and tastes, and this can easily refract their facts perception.
Moreover, Bacon (549) writes men usually become attached to specific speculations and particular
sciences. In his later years, Einstein worked is searching a correlation amid electromagnetism and
gravity whilst ignoring the quantum mechanics due to the verity that it was not fitting into his
nature perception. Presently, the theories of quantum mechanical theories are in essence
unquestionable. This Provides a very good illustration of viewing the globe how one would prefer it
rather than how it actually operates. The shortcomings of a person ought to be taken into
consideration when observing nature and society.
The Market place idol is illustrated as a logical hindrance that is based on language, especially
word. Bacon describes the hindrances (545) to be established through the association of men with
one another ad the unfit and ill words choice to a greater extent acts as an obstruction to
understanding. This clearly indicates that the general populace can be misleading easily through
the simple word choice that one uses in describing a specific topic. This is vital since as is seen the

Analysis Of Doctored Vision By Wole Soyinka
Doctored Vision is an extract from Wole Soyinka s collection of poem Mandela s Earth and
other poems (1988). The poem is originally written in English. Politically, the 80 s were
historical and monumental to Nigerians. There was a major economic crisis (National Economic
Emergency in 1986) due to military coups, extensive dependency on oil for income and
unemployment. A writer is always affected by the political environment around them. So was
Soyinka. Stories emerge from a place going through severe crisis and change. Doctored vision is a
narrative style poem. The protagonist, an aging poet, goes to a Doctor to correct his vision. While
the tests are being performed, the poet struggles to see the letters. Baffled at first, the Doctor is...

The Theme The poem juxtaposes two concepts of Science and Magic. We see the medical jargon
such as, Myopia, Astigmatism, Bi Focal, prescription and transplant are used. Then again, the
word magic is used by the doctor himself when he cannot explain the poet s condition. Science
and Magic are looked at as contradicting disciplines. No one would expect a Doctor to describe
a condition as magical. Science is orderly, tested and researched. Magic defies logic and reason.
Soyinka skillfully weaves them into one another. The poem feels more magical than scientific.
Since the protagonist is a poet, it is possible Soyinka is talking about his views. Not only this is
about magic or science, it is about perspective. The poet like Soyinka can see mundane and
normal things in a poetic way. That makes him different from other people. If looked at with a
postcolonial perspective, the mistrust of the poet in the doctors can also reflect how the elderly
generally are skeptic of modern treatments. They are also usually content with placebos. Scientist
are often portrayed as curious and sinister experimenters; they want to experiment on a patient
rather than treating them. The Setting The entire poem is set in the Doctor s clinic. A clinic can
seem like a scary place; an omen for something bad. Indication of a year or a country are not given.
Which leaves it open to interpretation. Since Soyinka is Nigerian, it is difficult to read the poem
without associating

Guatemala has more people than any other Central American country, with an estimated
population of 11,980,000 it is home to many different cultures. The population can be divided
into two groups; Indians and people of mixed Spanish and Indian ancestry. But in Guatemala,
being called an Indian or a non Indian does not depend entirely on a person s ancestry. It is
basically a matter of how people live and of how they categorize themselves. For example, a
Guatemalan is considered an Indian if he or she speaks an Indian language, wears Indian clothing,
and lives in a community where the people follow the Indian ways of life. The Indians think of
themselves more as part of their community than of their country. They pay little attention to...

Mr. Abraham arrived using a can and wearing the leg brace. There is swelling to the ankle and some tenderness to the surrounding knee. He rates his pain at a 1 and a 5 with some movements. The range of motion is limited. We also asked Dr. Yacisen to address the left shoulder pain. Range of motion there is good and the pain has decreased since he stopped using the walker. • 3. Loneliness in Cannery Row, by John Steinbeck As night falls on Cannery Row actuality and fear overwhelms the souls as they lay awake at night. At this very moment they are alone to think to ponder their existence their importance their meaning. During the day the things the people of Cannery Row use to fill their void. To give them happiness is gone and for those long hours of the night they are truly alone. The cats, the parties, and companions are gone just for a second. But they return in the morning to calm the weary and the broken spirits of the people in Cannery Row. Each of us just like the people in Cannery Row uses something or someone to compensate for the loneliness in our lives. Money, relationships, and personal struggles are evident and bring about loneliness to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Frankie has never had much love he knows what it means and he finds it in Doc. With Doc he is not alone. Doc is his protection, his comforter. He is also a father figure who he looks up to. Undoubtedly Doc and Frankie share something and it is there intellectual capacities. Their intellect predisposes them to a certain form of loneliness. It is of course on the opposite spectrum. Doc is highly and unusually intelligent while Frankie is on the slow side. They find it hard to fit in with the people of Cannery Row because they cannot find a place where they fit in intellectually. We can all think back to the smart kid or who we would refer to as the nerd in high school. They were the kids who always sat alone at lunch who did not go to dances or social events. Never got asked to prom and had very little friends. If you are too smart you are a nerd and if you are too slow you are dim witted. Therefore is safe to say intelligence plays a huge role in loneliness. Doc chooses to be to put all his time and effort into his work which brings him true happiness. Without Western Biological doc would feel alone and isolated. Western Biological fills the void in his life. Although Doc has not reached self actualization all his basic needs have been met. He is satisfied with where he is. No doubt Cannery Row is known for its parties. Yes this can be looked upon negatively. Cannery row is filled with hoboes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. William Browning And Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay The Two Authors Different Perspective Literatures in the Victorian Era Many authors are influenced by the society, culture, politic and economy during their period. Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly. The two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works. The authors are married couple authors of the Victorian era. Roberts Browning s a typical literary work is My Last Duchess. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s one of the most famous work is Aurora Leigh. In the two poems, the authors mainly focus on the different gender roles. Even though the two Victorian era literatures, Aurora Leigh and My Last Duchess, demonstrate the social issue, which is a sexual discrimination during the Victorian era, each author emphasizes the seriousness of the issue by using different perspectives on women s roles and positions. My Last Duchess, which was written by Roberts browning demonstrates the horrible condition of the Victorian society by exposing the author s perspective on the genders role in the Victorian era. The book, the literature of the Victorian era, defines the poem a perfect picture of cold blooded heartlessness, a thing possible in any age though fortunately (Hugh 427). The poem clearly shows the dreadful social condition for a woman in the Victorian era. According to the author, Michael O Neill, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Problem Of Violence And Violence In the modern age, many problems can be solved quickly and effectively by having a thoughtful discussion with both belligerents. However, depending on the severity of the problem, the direness of the situation, and the time one has to react, a violent solution may be the only option. There are those who believe that violenceshould be abhorred and never resorted to, but those who think that are optimistic dreamers who are living in a false reality. Of course, if everyone shared their viewpoint, fights may never occur, but one has to accept the fact that some people will just refuse to stand down or accept something other than exactly what they want. This is why a level headed person with a strong moral compass needs to be able to recognize when a situation calls for a peaceful diplomatic solution, or, if diplomacy fails, a call to action. Violence can solve problems, is used in politics, employed by police, and is expressed through American superheroes. While violence is not the only way out of problems, sometimes it is the best reasonable solution. Those who succumb to the idea to use violence to achieve their goals will generally overcome their less confrontational challengers overturning the results of elections, riding wildly over peaceful expressions of political opinion. Most of the time, the mere threat of violence is enough to induce submission. Violent groups can usually be defeated only by enemies who use superior force against them, which is why, in order to ... • 6. History of the Eucharist History of the Eucharist The Sacrament of Eucharist is the most frequently received Sacraments in the Catholic Church. The matter in the Sacrament of Eucharist is the bread and wine, which changes into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The Sacrament of Eucharist is dated in the Bible as far back to the Old Testament, indirectly as the Israelites flee from Egypt in the desert, and God gives them manna to eat. This happens multiple times while the Israelites are searching for the Promised Land. The most important part of the Bible when the Eucharistis received, is when Jesus and the Apostles are at the Last Supper. Through the Sacrament of Eucharist, Jesus breaks the bread and passes it around to his apostles. Then, Jesus says that one of them will betray him, and whoever dips the bread in the wine at the same time he does will be the one who will betray him. As we know Judas was the one who betrayed him, and must have been the one to dip the bread in the wine at the same time as Jesus. Even though all the Gospel writers wrote about Jesus Matthew, Mark, and Luke wrote about the meal Jesus had with his Apostles the night before his death, not John. Between the Resurrection of Jesus, and the conversion of the Emperor Constantine to Christianity. During this period of time in the Roman Empire, people who were Christians, were persecuted in public, just because of their beliefs. Christians had made a modification to having to receive the ... • 8. My Life As A Social Worker While walking to work I was pondering to my self why I wanted to be a social worker. As a young man I have always wanted more out of life. I grew up in a small farm town North side of the border of Mexico. I am the oldest of three children (two sisters). My parents were both working with the school district, my father a teacher/coach, my mothera social worker. My parents were well educated and believed in obtaining an education. They taught me school is a great way to enhance my life. I did well in my early years of my education, but life is the greatest teacher above all else. My parents divorced during the first year of high school then my mother became ill with cancer. My life shifted from son to caregiver, at the early age of fourteen I had to get an emergency driver license to drive my mother to chemo and everywhere she needed to go. While she was taking her treatments in a town an hour away I did my homework in the waiting room. I tried to maintain a high GPA to get in to a good school. It was a tough ordeal and heart wrenching challenge that shook me to my core. I was there for her and helped clean our house and I drove my sisters to school when my mother couldn t. At school I dove into books and I spent most of my time in the library.Unfortunately she couldn t make it, my mother fought hard for a year and a half but it was her time. This would strengthen my resolve to become someone she could be proud of. After the funeral my aunt moved in with us after a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Chinese Philosophy Essay Three areas of philosophy emerged amidst the chaos and constant warring of the Zhou era. The three were called Confucianism, Daoism, and legalism. They were Chinese philosophies that were thought to be the best ways to rule and achieve order in the society. Confucianism believed that a ruler s job was to set a good example, and not order. Since people were thought of as naturally good, they would following the right path based on their own conscience. Legalism was a more harsh way of ruling, led by Hanfeizi. At first, Confucianism was unsuccessful and Confucius, during his lifetime only managed to collect a few followers. After his death, however, his followers passed on the Confucian tradition. It survived, with a few changes, to the Han dynasty (221 BC) and became established as China s official philosophy. From then it was firmly well established in Chinese culture, and its values can still be seen today. The Five Classics of Confucianism were works from the Zhou Dynasty, which preceded the Warring States Period. They were collected and edited by members of the original Confucian school. After Confucianism became the official state philosophy, one had to know the philosophy well in order to gain the coveted position of government official. The Analects are a collection of sayings by Confucius, recorded by his disciples. As a result, the Analects are not a widespread proposal of Confucianism. Rather, it is a collection of quotations and stories. Because of this, Confucianism according to Confucius is open to interpretation. The main idea of the philosophy is, righteousness, relationships and generosity towards others. With the Vietnam War, the Tet Offensive is still being used as an example in wars after Vietnam and our current war. Two reads that describe how Tet affected the Americans afterward is An Old, Old Story by James S. Robbins and Decision making Leading to the Tet Offensive by Ang Cheng Guan. Throughout Guans articles it talks about the Vietnamese Communists plans for the Tet Offensive, however towards the end, Guan states The General Offensive General uprising is a good example of how difficult and complex it was to carry out Mao s three stage strategy of war (353). Notice how Guan uses good and example he is letting the readers know that the Tet Offensives also known as General uprising is a good example of what not to do because it was so complex and difficult. It is important because it allows readers to know that Guan felt it was not a good strategy for the war. However, Robbins share in his writings that the Tet Offensive is still affecting us today and even though the Vietnamese communist lost the Tet Offensive it is still being used by our enemies. We learn from and adapt to our environment. We choose whether or not to let our environment change us for the better or the worse. Payers for the Stolen character Ladydi Garcia Martinez is a prime example of how your environment shapes the way you act and who you become in the future. Crime, friendships, poverty, death, genderbarriers and infinite other events that have been the controlling environment in which she has lived. At birth we are told to nurture our children by their biological nature. It has long been believed by the scientific community that the gender identity of a child was determined by the child s upbringing, surrounding environment, and the way the child was treated during growth (Bader). In this quote, by Sir Henry David Thoreau, he shows that we should live life to its fullest and make sure we make our mark while we still can, so people remember us. In the Movie, Dead Poets Society, a group of students from the Welton Prep School are moved by the teachings of their English teacher, Professor Keating. He teaches the boys to be their own boss, leaders and not followers. This quote relates to the movie because this quote tells what Keating wants to teach his kids. When you look back at your life and realize that you have not taken full advantage of your opportunities your whole life, you will realize that you may not have lived as good as you could have. Many people feel that taking full advantage of your life will lead to not regretting a thing in the future. The way Professor Keating taught was successful in the way that he made his students realize that they need to live their own lives. . An example is when he teaches the boys Carpe Diem (Seize the day). In the movie, Tim repeatedly says that when he is trying to win over a girl. Keating is successful because he teaches Tim to go after what he wants and Tim was persistent enough to keep at it and winds up getting her. Another example is when Neil decides to be an actor in a play. Even though his father is against it, Neil does is anyway cause he knows he has what it takes and he feels he has nothing to lose. I feel that if Keating did not teach his students to be themselves, Neil would have never gone against his father and he would have never enjoyed his life. When Neil kills himself at the end I think the blame is on his father because he would not let him do what he wants to do in his heart, he wasn t being supportive of his sons wants. I feel that Keating had a very positive influence on him. Because of Keatings teachings, his students learned to live their own lives to the fullest. Professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, it appears that the intent of the United States has changed over time. Instead of helping Japan in the years after WWII, the United States used Japan as a pawn to better its own interests. In 1946, General MacArthur the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) asked United Statescitizens to take the responsibility of writing a new constitution for Japan. There was not a single Japanese person asked to help with the constitutions development. This made it so that the Japanese identity could not fully be seen within the constitution. When the proposition was given to include these issues, the majority of the group white males found that the proposal went farther that our own constitution and was unnecessary to be included. This decision was made after it was brought to their attention that many other countries at the time had integrated these issues into their own constitution. The focus of the constitutional meetings were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific Ocean. To better manifest this image, the Unites States decided that it would be best if Japan remained militarized. This demilitarization came in the form of Article 9, which stated that Japan could not have an armed military force for forever. Without an army of their own, the United States implemented their own troops and negotiated for there to be permanent bases in Japan; a constant reminder of the influence and power of the United States. Once the constitution was implemented, Japan began to change, however many of these changes were because of a United States backing. One can see these changes if they look to the media of the time. Before the United States, cinema had many restrictions and mostly portrayed to the military state. After the US occupation, American movies were introduced which had more risquГ© topics. • 15. War Heroes History For me, this answer is easy; I would not exist and I don t think we would either. Wars aren not only fought by soldiers, but sometimes also by bankers. It is not the warriors who fight for our freedom everyday, but by ordinary citizens with a warrior spirit. They are our neighbors, nurses, night watchmen and news reporters who heard our nation s cry for help and stood up to answer that call. Sisters, brothers, moms and dads to someone who love them very much as we all do. They embody the fighting spirit inside all Americans in every home across our nation. When asked to think of veterans, images of historical war heroes are often the first to flash into someone s mind. So many know the history of Dan Daly, a famous Marine Sergeant who endangered himself to save his wounded comrades and was recommended for the Medal of Honor three separate times. There is Molly Pitcher and Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen and even George Washington. One might even think of more contemporary heroes like Santiago Erevia, Melvin Morris or most recently, USN Seal Edward Byers. All these heroes are famous for being battle hardened generals and masters of the battlefield or commanders on the high seas. It is almost universally agreed upon that these people are... Not only were the technologies of war advancing, the harsh realities of it were broadcasted into the living rooms of ordinary families. Montag initially seeks out Faber to find more about books, as he caught Faber once with something that seemed to be of literature. He spoke in rhyme and rhythm, perhaps familiar with poetry and other literary devices. Montag wanted a copy of the bible to read and decipher, thus requesting one from Faber, having obtained his contact information from his last encounter. He also labels himself as a coward, for not being able to stop all the burning of books when it first started. At this point of time, Farber becomes more of a teacher to Montag rather than just a mere consultant. Faber explains that Montag seeks knowledge, not the books themselves but what s inside them. Faber believe that books are feared because they record history and life and that people need leisure time to think, which people did not have the enjoyment at the time. He believes burning books is foolish, because it removes the knowledge and wisdom that they contain from people. He also believes that people need to react and change from the present day society. The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay Most often, people have an image in their mind when they think of detectives, whether the image is a man in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass, a beloved childhood character like Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys, or the classic Victorian detective. While all of these may hold true, one specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story. Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism. In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place, London and Dartmoor. London is where the story begins, where Sherlock and Watson are first introduced to the case, and where things first start to seem peculiar. Though these first events that set up the mystery of the novel take place in London, London is a symbol of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The epics Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Mahabharata, share similar characteristics in terms of their strength, values, and journeys. In each of the epics that will be discussed, there is the occurrence of fighting for honor and to have a legacy. The epic heroes follow many of the guidelines that Joseph Campbellhas written in his book Herowith a Thousand Faces. Joseph Campbell believed that the stages of a hero were to have a call to adventure, he is introduced in his ordinary world, he is hesitant and may not want to fulfill his mission, the person is encouraged by someone old and wise, the person is committed to their journey, there are tests and people to help the hero, the hero faces his last, challenging quest, he potentially faces death, the hero survives his journey and is rewarded in some way, he has a journey back to his home and could face more danger, the hero is transformed by his experience, and the hero brings back treasures. Gilgamesh shows the characteristics of hero according to Joseph Campbell because he faces many challenging quests in particular his most dangerous is going to the king and queen of (idk) (where) to find the secret of immortality, Gilgamesh survives his journey back from (where), Gilgamesh is transformed because he becomes less shellfish, on the journey home he could have possibly been in danger because of the deadly ... The dictionary states that naturalistic dramain particular usually has a broader application, denoting a very detailed illusion of real life on the stage, especially in speech, costume, and sets (Baldick, p.221). On the other hand, melodramais defined as a popular form of sensational drama that flourished in the 19th century theatre [...] the modern sense of melodrama derives: an emotionally exaggerated conflict of pure maidenhood and scheming villainy in a plot full of suspense (Baldick, p.201). Melodrama came before naturalistic drama, in the early nineteenth century, but was taken over in popularity in the late nineteenth/ early twentieth century by realismand naturalistic drama. The term melodrama originated from the early nineteenth century French word mГ©lodrame, which is derived from Greek melos, which means melody, and French drame, which means drama. Moreover, many of the elements of melodrama are thought to have originated in the fifth century B.C. Melodrama emerged from eighteenth century sentimental dramas in Germany and France that involved music, and became popular between the seventeen eighties and the seventeen nineties, with its popularity lasting until the early twentieth century. In terms of early European theatre, the term melodrama was used to describe scenes of mime or dialogue which were accompanied by music. However, the more modern definition in the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms comes from the early nineteenth century, where the melodramatic plays being performed in London were somewhat simplified adaptations of Gothic novels. Melodrama means song drama in Greek, so therefore the use of music is understandably a very important feature. It is used to the increase emotions of the audience, as well as to signify different characters. Pisani says in his essay Music for the theatre: style and function in incidental music that: Music [was] used to assist the actors in establishing and sustaining the emotional pitch ...
