The Populism Movement
The election of 1892, the year former President Grover Cleveland was reelected after defeating
President Benjamin Harrison. President Grover Cleveland lost the electoral vote in 1888 against
Harrison, but in 1892 Cleveland made a comeback. Even though President Cleveland and President
Harrison represented the two main parties, a third party had risen in popularity during this time.
The People Party received popularity in this election, making them the first third party to receive
electoral votes since the 1860 Presidential Race. The populismmovement started as way for
farmers to fight back against dropping crop prices, forced debt, and economic abuse received by
capitalistic corporations. Populism in other words is the movement made by farmer in order to
receive economic, political, and social equality in the reconstructing country. Farmers during this
time were in debt due to the investments on machinery but did not produce enough wealth. Surely
farmers had huge field but due to inflation of crop prices, farmers were not treated in the same
economic or social class as those in corporations. In the election in 1892 the Peoples Party
presidential candidate was James Weaver who managed to win several western states, such as

Overproduction was an issue the populist tried to address, yet they failed. The Subtreasury Plan
was proposed, which states crops would be stored in government facilities and used as collateral
for struggling farmers. This appealed many farmers but they failed in 1890. However when
addressing the gold standard, the Populist Party received support from many. They pushed for
remonetizing silver in gold was very difficult to find. Populist believed that corporation held on to
gold in order to buy out the farmers land. Even though this issue was not truly resolved, I believe it
was a success because it made populism

The Destruction Of The Caledonian Forest
Large sections of Scotland were home to the temperate rainforest called the Caledonian Forest.
The forests name was derived from the Romans who referred to Scotland as Caledonia , meaning
wooded heights in Latin (Woodland Restoration in Scotland. 2008 October 05). The dominant
species of the Caledonian Forests is the Scot pine. Unfortunately, climate changes over centuries
have caused the forest to diminish. The destruction of the forests for building materials, charcoal
and other resources required the people of the British Isle to use stone and move to other areas to
find natural resources. Today only 10% of the United Kingdomis forest (United Kingdom. 2014,
March 07). The Caledonian Forest is a unique ecosystem of the British Isles

Avatar Effect
What I call the Avatar effect plays a pervasive (if unconscious) role on the road. Basically, it
comes down to moral hazard: people are more likely to take risks when they feel they are shielded
from the consequences of their actions. Especially when they feel detached from danger via avatars
or proxies.
Like Jake Sully (the crippled main character of Avatar), who uses a super expensive Na vi human
hybrid, to transport himself to a place where he can make a fortune (for someone else, and a
(relative) pittance for himself); people conduct themselves in a manner that corresponds to their
perceived risk/reward ratio.
Jake was quite emboldened by the fact that he himself was not at risk of dying when he was going
about Pandora in his Na vi Avatar. There was only a small sense of fiscal preservation in his
actions. Obviously, drivers are not as reckless as Jake, for whom death was taken ... Show more

Drivers subconsciously feel almost anonymous and essentially invincible once inside their cars. The
rolling metal machines take all the punishment, while protecting all passengers inside.
That is why people do not mind cutting strangers off in a manner that makes them have to slam
on their brakes to avoid collision. The way selfish people see it, the worst possible outcome of that
is a fender bender that gives them a palpable excuse for being late to work.
They (like Jake) are also held aback by the fear of losing such an expensive product. Granted, much
of that fear is mitigated by insurance companies (straight out of pandora s box) who are now
brazenly siphoning resources from people (though not the Na vi s unobtainium (but only because
they are fictional)).
People drive as reckless as they do because they feel safe in their automotive avatars. They have
seen countless crash test dummies walk away from brutal collisions of all kinds, with impacts

Medicine In Muslim World Essay
Medicine in the Muslim World and the Americas, 700 1500
Medicine was an important part of the Muslim world; both rich and poor people were interested in
health and diseases. In fact, one of the greatest contributions to the Muslim world to modern
medicine is the preservation of many of the original works of philosophers, poets and physicians.
Subsequently, Muslim doctor and scholars wrote about health and developed an extensive complex
medical literature. Unlike medical literature today, which is specialized, but in the medieval world
amalgamated amongst natural science, astrology, alchemy, religion, philosophy and mathematics are
medical literature (Nordqvist, 2012).
Recognize through the reciprocal contributions to the Old and the New Worlds to the history of
diseases, their treatment is America. It also shows the consequences of this discovery, as they are

For example, the Aztec believed that sickness was a divine act of the gods, and when the sickness
fell upon them they accepted ruination, they saw it as a radical measure necessary to fulfilling the

for all aliment, physical and spiritual, in the same way; they made an enormous contribution to the
world in Islamic medicine (Shuttleworth, 2010). Healers were Priests, physicians, and gods.

User side factors: Download speed the amount of data the user can download per second and
is capped by their ISP. The slower the download speed for the user the slower the user can
download the webpages and assets to view the website so the company will have to have to take
their customers download speeds into account to decide what size of files is appropriate for
their audience to access their website as quickly as possible. PC performance factors if the
user is running multiple applications at the same time as trying to view the companies website
then the website will load slower as the processor is trying to cope with all these operations. The
company will then need to optimise their website to be less CPU intensive as possible by not
running performance intensive scripts that operate on the users computer. Browsers there are
many different types of browsers and most browsers conform to the same standard of interpreting
and displaying the code but may differ from browser to browser so the company has to do some
thorough testing to make sure the user is not left not being able to view the website due to the

The Transition Between High School And College
All children become an adult at some point in their lives. The transition between high school and
college exemplifies this transition. Yet few of these students feel prepared for the challenge that is
adult life. After living with their parents for 17 18 years, the move away from home and getting
saddled with a plethora of responsibilities can be jolting. William Allen has many graduation
requirements, but an Independent Living class is not one of them. This needs to change. High
Schoolought to prepare students for the everyday aspect of collegeand life after school, not just the
academic aspect of college. The graduation requirements of the AllentownSchool district include 4
years of English, 3 years of math and science, and 2 years of foreign language (PROGRAM OF
STUDIES 2015 2016 William Allen High School Louis E. Dieruff High School, 7). It does not
include any sort of class designed to help students learn important life techniques. School is
designed to prepare us for college and the difficult transition between high school and college.
But the way our high school curriculum is designed it only prepares us for the academic aspect
of college, and without regard to people who may choose to take a gap year or not go to college.
When going to college, students may worry about the dorms. They must adjust to college lifestyle
and making new friends. The additional stress of being suddenly ladled with a plethora of
responsibilities on top of this stress can be daunting.

An Analysis Of Nevermind s Cover Art
Nevermind s cover art was one such political statement, a clear expression of disgust towards
capitalism. (Bickerdike, 2014)
Never mind the English idiom don t judge a book by its cover . As a consumerist society, we tend
to instinctively make assumptions based on initial appearance. Since the invention on the LP back
in 1948, the recording industry adapted the concept of the cover art as to visually represent the
artists and music. Music albums across the world are sold inside universal sleeves branded with a
particular image allowing the work to be instantly recognisable amongst all others. The cover art
of Nirvana s 1991 release Nevermind has prevailed to be one of the most recognizable album
covers of all time. The image reflects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

connote a sense of seriousness while communicating WE ARE NIRVANA. THIS IS OUR

is slightly warped. The warped font can connote with feeling of being submerged underwater,
further linking with cover art s intended ideology. Observing the two words together could
interpret a deeper meaning. The meaning of the world nirvana according to an online dictionary is
defined as a place or state characterized by freedom from or oblivion to pain, worry, and the

Full Metal Jacket Stereotypes
The most innocent individual has the ability to flip their morality code to fit a role they could
be given. Someone suddenly reflecting a role given to them is referred to as the Lucifer Effect.
(Myers 2014, p. 461) In the film, Full Metal Jacket, Sergent Hartman played his role as the drill
instructor both intensely and aggressively.(Kubrick) Hartman perfectly reflected the stereotype of
both verbally and physically abusive drill instructors as he used his role as the instructor to
frequently undermine and harass the new cadets. Hartman s goal as a drill instructor was to have
all of the cadets to conform into the ideal type of soldier for war, even if that meant possibly
shattering their beliefs and mind. Both Joker and Gomer Pyle suffered

Evaluation Of Mcode Using The Gavin Data
Evaluation of MCODE using the Gavin data set of protein interactions and complexes
In this study, we wanted to use all forms of protein interaction data available, which requires
combining of different types of experiments, such as yeast two hybrid and co
immunoprecipitation. Two hybrid results are naturally pairwise, whereas copurification results are
sets of one or more identified proteins. For a copurification result, only a set of size 2 can be
directly considered a pairwise communication, otherwise it must be modeled as a set of hypothetical
interactions. Biochemical copurifications can be thought of as populations of complexes with some
hidden pairwise protein interaction topology that is unknown from the experiment. In the general
case of the purification used by Gavin et al., one weakness tagged protein was used as bait to
pull associated proteins out of a yeast cell lysate. The two intense cases for the topology
underlying the population of complexes from a single purification experiment are a minimally
connected spoke model, where the data are modeled as explicit bait associated protein pairwise
synergy, and a maximally connected matrix model, where the data are modeled as all proteins
connected to all others in the set. The real topology of the set of proteins must lie around between
these two extremes.
Population of complexes: C = {b, c, d, e} (b = bait)
Spoke model hypothetical interactions: i S = {b c, b d, b e}
Matrix model hypothetical interactions; i

John Parker Analysis
It was April 18th 1775 and John William Adams climbed out of bed and walked across the room.
He was dressed in a long white linen shirt that flowed down to his knees. The sleeves were a bit
tattered and dirty, but it was the only shirt he owned. He walked over to the wash basin and
started his morning ritual of shaving. It was expected that all members of the American militia
be clean shaven. He splashed some cold water on his face from the wash basin and reached for
his Perret razor which had an l shaped wooden handle and long straight blade. After shaving he
reached for his wool stockings and slipped them on. John Williams mother Constance had made
the stockings from lamb s wool the summer before. He pulled his tan breeches on and fastened his
wool coat as he set... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Parker was a newly appointed Captain of the Lexington militia. He was a tall man with jet
black hair. Parker was a much larger man then John William but even though his size made him
look intimidating, he was a very nice man. When he found out about John Henry passing, he took a
special interest in John William and he found that very comforting. John Parker and the Lexington
militia were put in place because the year before the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts had
suggested that every town reconstitute its militia company and that citizens train to learn military
skills.
The group lacked the proper military supply of weapons and equipment. Everything that the men
possessed was their own property. The men had a varied assortment of weapons and ammunition.
Most of John Williams s militia members had very old and outdated equipment that was issued to
them during the French and Indian Wars. A couple carried French made weapons obtained from
the expeditions against Louisburg in 1745. Jasper, who was one of John Williams s best friends,

Women s Rights Relevant Today
Today, there are many things going on around us that we can use to relate to back things going on
in the time period of 1945 1980. There are many people who believe that some events that took
place back in that time period can be relevant in what is happening today in the United States.
Some examples are Baghdad and the fall of Saigon in the VietnamWar, and the second one being
equal rights for the citizens of the United States. Today there is still issues with racial justice and
immigrant rights, just like there was issues with racial rights and women s rights back in the same
time period. Different organizations have been developed and grown from the 1960s Civil Rights

Just like the 1960s Civil Rights Movements organizations like the Equal Rights Center have been
developed today to try to help out those who don t feel equal to everyone else. There is still many
issues with racial justice and sex equality in today s society. Although women have made big steps
for them to be equal to men, however, there are many things that prevent women in the search of
employment, in the sales and rental of housing, and in the daily search of education, health
services, and other things. Different organizations have been created to help get that issue fixed,
just like there was organization s made to help the Women s Movements. Racial justice is still an
issue today as it was back in the 1960s 1980s, events like Ferguson and different police brutalities
confirm this to be true. The Equal Rights Center s mission for racial justice came from the 1960s
Civil Rights Movement, which has committed them to eliminating race based discrimination.

Rock n Roll 20th Century Culture Essay
Rock n roll and 20th Century Culture
According to Philip Ennis, rock n roll emerged from the convergence of social transformations
which resulted from World War II (Ryan 927). Despite its pop culture origins, rock music is
arguably one of the strongest cultural factors to develop in this century. Artists such as
Lennon, McCartney and Dylan defined the emotions of a generation and, in the last decade, it as
even been acknowledged by members of the establishment which it hoped to change as a major
influence in the country. In order to understand how rock went from a sign of rebellion to a cultural
icon, it is necessary to understand where it came from. According to Albert... Show more content

Rock n roll music came of age in the sixties which was a period in the nation s history when a
young generation expressed their anguish and sense of alienation to the country s social
establishments by searching for new answers to the age old questions concerning the meaning of
life, the value of the individual, and the nature of truth and spirituality (Harris 306). The classic
rock music which was created during this period gave form and substance to this search. Songs
such as My Generation by the Who recorded the keen sense of alienation that young people felt
from the past and the Establishment and it also showed the keen sense of community they felt
among themselves.
Classic albums such as the Beatles White Album, the
Who s Who s Next, Dylan s Highway 61 Revisited, and Pink
Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon capture what was essential about the time because they were both a
result of that time and because they helped to produce it by reinforcing the younger generation s
feelings of alienation and separation.
Although the distinction is somewhat fuzzy, rock music is not exactly the same as rock and roll.
Rock n roll brings up memories of two minute, Top 40 singles of the fifties era. Drawn

The Causes Of The Migration Series By Jacob Lawrence
The Migration series by Jacob Lawrence is a sequence of sixty paintings (with captions)
portraying the mass movement of African Americans from the rural South to cities in the North
and West during the beginning of the twentieth century. The artist was the child of African
American migrants, and he grew up during the 1930s in Harlem, where he took art classes. In
planning the series, Lawrence did a lot of library research on the history and causes of the
migration. Reading the series from beginning to end, the viewer can see that he puts the fruits of
his learning into the scenes and captions. This paper explores how the series represents the causes
of the Great Migration. I argue that Lawrence shows several economic factors, such as difficult...

Although the pattern does not stay exactly this way throughout the series, the back and forth
between depictions of individuals and groups is pretty common. My point is similar to this one in
a scholarly article: The narrative . . . is not linear, but alternates between the insistent portrayal of
the dominant event in the plot the actual physical displacement of the people and paintings dealing
with the main causes of this mass migration (Tribe 405). This quotation brings us back to the issue
of causes, which I think is related to the opposition individual/society. When Lawrence depicts the
causes pushing African Americans out of the South (like lynching, child labor, injustice, and
discrimination), he usually shows us only one person or a small group, like a family. Some of the
causes pulling migrants away from the South (labor agents, letters from kin) also are shown having
their effect on individuals or small groups. But when

Synthesis Essay Abraham Lincoln
As a leader, do you feel as though you could unite subordinates, units, organizations, or even a
nation? Abraham Lincoln faced the task of reunifying a nation, even during a time of civil war. He
was a visionary leader through the war as his actions advocated intellectual stimulation through
change management leading to decisions that shaped innovative efforts within the United States
Air Force (USAF) today. Additionally, Lincoln was an ethical leader, not for the actions that
history books recognize with the freedom of slavery, but more so for the decision to face ethical

Lincoln valued this idea and wanted Lowe to brief the War Department. However, the War
Department was not receptive. In particular, General Winfield Scottcould not understand how this
idea would change strategy. General Scott believed it would hinder current operations and waste
time. Jarrow (2010) alludes to Lincoln s frustration and disappointment when Lowe returned with
this information. Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General
Scott was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a)
highlights that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental
frameworks into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). Lincoln
believed in Lowes idea; therefore, he took it upon himself to go to the War Department and address
the matter. A few days later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to
ground commanders. Lincoln s trust in this innovative idea and understanding of change altered the
dynamics of war; now aerial reconnaissance guaranteed information to the Union Army concerning
the battlefield. This was a small vision that transformed into an essential part of today s USAF
mission of ISR. Now that we have discussed the visionary leadership of Lincoln, let us change

Court Observation Paper The court I attended was the court # 184, on October 25th 2015 at
Harris County Criminal Justice Court , located in downtown of Houston city. The Judge in
charge was Jan Krocker. It was an aggravated sexual assault of child case between The State of
Texas vs. Samuel Gallegos. As I entered the court, the trial has already commenced so I did not
really know how a real trial started. I sat in the back where the public sits, facing the judge bench.
The courtroom was cold and quiet. Especially it was very small, much smaller and less
impressive than I expected.. Everyone was in formal dressing code. There were just a few
number of spectators and family members in the court room. There was a clerk who was typing
everything what was happening during the court time. Judge Krocker appeared to have things
under control and had the proceedings moving forward smoothly. She was a very friendly lady
with short blonde hair. She was listening attentively. She spoke clearly and distinctly so that
everyone in the courtroom could hear. Samuel Gallegos is a white man about 5 8 tall. He looked
quite nervous while some police officers were standing behind him. From what I understood, this
case was really happening back in 2014 and the suspect has criminal history relating to assault of

Supernatural Character in Octavio Paz s Short Story, My...
Mexican born author, Octavio Paz, in his short story, My Life with the wave suggests the
protagonist is symbolic and then remains a supernatural character best understood in literal terms.
He supports his claim by showing the reader the speakers difficulty of finding a place for the
wave out of the ocean, how the protagonist suffers imprisonment for a crime he did not commit,
and of how through the death of the wave the protagonist is able to free himself from the pain and
torment he faced when he was engaged in a relationship with the wave. Paz s intention is to use the
symbolism in order show the negative side of falling in love. Octavio Pazadopts an intense tone for
the somber reader. The short storyLife with the Wave, written by Octavio Paz leads us through an
intense relationship between a simple man and a wave. Octavio Paz uses the wave to symbolize

Why We Shouldn T Team Sports Be Good
The reputation of some team sports has been corroded by unfortunate events caused by fans,
reason why some people are now asking themselves if team sports can really be good for us. The
world of soccer, for instance, to which many people look up to and turn to in order to keep fit,
build their character, and have fun, has been tainted by the violent and antisocial behaviour of
some fans. I believe that the violent acts carried out by these fans have nothing to do with the fact
of team sports being good for us or not, at least when it comes to people who practice these sports
to keep fit and for leisure. The fact that the antisocial and violent behaviour involved in many soccer
matches affects many people, does not imply we should automatically

Taiwan Research Paper
Nations such as Japan and China had viewed the island of Taiwan as a resource and a collateral
component in their immense empires ever since their knowledge of its existence in mid 1400s. The
most prominent period in Taiwanese history began after World War II, with the beginning of the
Cold War. It was then that Taiwan s native government was completely dominated by China,
demolishing the island s independence which they would slowly gain back over the next few
centuries. The formation of the Relations Act with the United States in 1979 began a process that
led to Taiwan s political separation from China in 1987, establishing a democratic government
along with a gain of military support from the West.

Chiang Kai shek was the leader of the Republic of China who had been governing Taiwan under
martial law, however after his death in 1975, his son, Chiang Ching kuo succeeded him and
made political shifts to a more democratic system. ( Taiwan ) The most democratic element of
Chiang s new system was the elections that were held to replace members of the National
Assembly, an important part of the Republic of China s government in Taiwan, who were dying.
( Taiwan ) This was incredibly significant because while it was a large democratic step, it was
also the first time native Taiwanese were able to participate in their government, eventually
resulting in a majority of Taiwanese born and a mainority of Chinese governing Taiwan. The
Taiwanese government became even more native after Chiang Ching kuo ended martial law and
passed away in 1987, beginning the presidency of Li Teng hui took office as the first native born

Being A Mental State Of Awareness
Conscious is thought to be a mental state in which we are able to process information and act on
it. However this term is used to describe a state of awareness while awake whereas there seems to
be varying levels of consciousness that describe most mental states. If information can be
perceived (knowing or unknowingly) then it is likely that you are conscious, e.g. even when in
light sleep we can dream and may even wake up on hearing a loud noise, therefore the brain still
processes information, however in deep sleep this is not the case. When looking at consciousness,
there is what Levine described as the explanatory gap (Levine, 1983). This states that in the
present moment we are not able to provide an explanation for the phenomena that is
consciousness however as time goes on and our knowledge of neuroscience increases this gap
will close gradually until it is non existent (Block Young, 1996). However despite this statement
being made by Levine around 30 years ago, the explanatory gap still remains although it is clearly
beginning to close, we still have some way to go before we can begin to understand what
consciousness is. Consciousness is inherently a subjective matter as there are many different
meanings for the word which are seemingly thrown around without much thought, there is no way
to prove that one normal experience of consciousness is the same as another (qualia) and we are
unable to scientifically explain conscious experiences. Therefore before we can

Is It Okay To Torture By Richard Fisher Summary
With Robots becoming a popular part of our everyday lives people are beginning to question if
people are treating robots with the same respect that they treat people with. Researchers are also
beginning to wonder if there need to be laws to protect robots from being tortured or even killed.
Scientists have done research to test and see if people react the same to robots as they would to
actual people or animals. In Is it Okay to Torture or Murder a Robot Richard Fisher contemplates
the reason on why it is wrong to hurt or kill a robot by using a stern and unbiased tone. The author
s purpose of this essay is contemplating whether or not laws should be made protecting robots.
Throughout the essay he uses evidence from scientists who have dones tests, and it shows how

The author never puts his opinions through the article he states what scientist have found out from
research. On page 4 Fisher quotes Dr. Rault who said, Robots can, without a doubt, trigger human
emotions. This is a great example in the article when he Fisher gives examples of what researchers
thinks that makes the point come across without putting his own opinion in the article. Fisher also
uses a stern tone that does not show emotion, yet gets the point across. He does not put his own
opinions or thoughts that could show humor, instead he consistently keeps with a tone that is very
stern, and does not make any jokes about a topic that could easily have humor brought into it. One
way that Fisher shows sternness throughout the article is by giving facts, numbers, and data from
experiments that have been tested. One page 3 Fisher writes, After an hour of play, the people
refused to hurt their Plea with the weapons they had been given. This is a fact that Fisher had
obtained from the data of the tests results which is one way that he is able to write his article with

Automobile Theft Is A Crime
Most time people don t think about what crimes they are committing like motor vehicle theft,
larceny and theft and robbery. Each of the crimes is serious, but some people don t understand the
consequence of what they could be up against. Automobile theft is a felony which you could face
up to one or more years in prison. Robberyis a crimethat happens every day and usually deals with
someone intentionally taking something from a store or a person.
Larceny and Theft is another crime that is similar to robbery, but it is a more serious crime that it
is unlawful to take constructive possession of another person s personal property.
Motor Vehicle thefts can be easily done by a professional who knows how to hi jack cars. The
most common mistake why some cars are easily stolen is that people leave their doors unlocked.
For example most people go into convince stores and leave their car running which is an easy way
for a car to be stolen. There are certain vehicles that cannot be considered as automobile theft as in
farm equipment because it isn t registered with the DMV. According to the FBI (UCR) they
consider that a vehicle is only to run on land not rails .In 2010 there was an estimated amount that
there were 737,142 thefts of automobiles which is an outstanding number of vehicles stolen. There

Lastly, many have heard the rumors about a pianist being smarter than a football player, making
athletes out to be incompetent and band geeks out to be weird but what if this was actually the

that there may be a correlation. A fun fact that helps prove this study is that Condoleezza Rice was

correlation may seem like a coincidence but when interviewing top professionals in industries all

Essay on Minamata Patients’ Life and Minamata Compensation
Minamata disease was discovered on May 1st 1956. There were 12,617 people who were
recognized as patients. However, these numbers were only patients with the certificate. People had
to apply for the certificate certifying that they got impacts from Minatama and got the disease.
However, it was not easy to get the certificate as many people had to apply many times to get the
Certification. Another issue was related to the discrimination to the Minamata patients should
handle. People would disparage people with the Certification. Hence, the Minamata patients chose
to hide their status, even from their families and relatives.

experiences, they hope that people will understand Minamata deeply. In 27th October 2013, the
Emperor of Japan, Akihito, together with his wife gave a visit to the Minamata Disease Municipal
Museum. They got a chance to talk with Kataribe and heard stories from them. The Emperor,
Akihito, hopes that people will end discrimination to the victims.
Comments
Minamata disease is a very bad disease as it gives bad impacts to the human bodies. People
barely can walk, hands become crippled, etc. The Minamata patients also have to spend their life
going to hospitals as no cure for this disease. Furthermore, the application to get the Certification is
too difficult. The government should make it easier as the patients already suffered from the
disease. The Japan State also needs to conduct the comprehensive health survey. The survey is quite
important. No official survey was conducted until now. People still don t know how widely harm
extended and how many people were affected. However, I would like to say that Japan was quite
successful in handling this situation in terms of the compensation. Both Chisso

A tornado is a column of wind that is rotating around. It is part of the storm that is occurring in
that area. When it descends to the ground, that part of the storm is called a tornado. Tornadoes

terrible effects after a tornado has passed by an area, this means people have been injured or
have died, buildings and other structures have been destroyed, and habitats or ecosystems can be
destroyed. The damages that have been made from the tornadoes will be costly, thousands,
hundreds of thousands, it all depends on how strong and long that tornado lasted, and how much
damage it caused. Many cities and towns are equipped with a warning siren, when a tornado has
been reported, they will warn the people who live in that are to evacuate before it arrives, to
keep the people safe. There is a tornado watch and tornado warning. There is a huge difference
between the both of them. The tornado watch is when there is a POSSIBILITY of a tornado

this is when it has been confirmed that there is an existing tornado that is most likely going to

Henry Selick Vs. The Nightmare Before Christmas

because he is tired of Halloween and wants to make a major change in his life since being the

Another important part of making a good movie is that the story line is original and not overdone.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a hundred percent original and is the only movie that has

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Western Culture
ABSTRACT The Philippines is one of the most westernized countries in Asia, and western

other fields but they get their job done. The first thing I ve chosen to talk about is the ultrasound.
The utilization of ultrasound was thought to help in producing delicate tissue. This practice has

threatened by the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia; Thailand authorized for Khmer Rouge
authorities to seek refuge in their nation. The United States was insecure about the situation as they
believed Vietnam strived to spread Communism with Soviet Union s assistance through their
alliance. In 1981, the U.S. Secretary of State, Alexander Haig, condemned Vietnam and the Soviet
Union of using chemical weapons against Democratic Kampuchea; which violates the 1925 Geneva
Accord. However, China expressed the most vexation; after Vietnam signed a treaty of cooperation
with the new Cambodia and Laos, China began to invade Vietnam. Despite this, China suffered
numerous losses and withdrawn the troops. Within Cambodia, there have been multiple attempts to
overthrow the new government. Politicians, including Son Sann and Khieu Samphan, and King
Sihanouk have planned many operations to establish domestic authority over Vietnamese control.

Societal Impacts Of Genetic Study Of Intelligence
SOCIETAL IMPACTS OF GENETIC STUDY OF INTELLIGENCE: Throughout history racism
has been centered on phenotypic differences between races such as skin color. Also, there was a
multitude of false information that was created by racism, for example, the claim that certain races
have the predisposition to be less intelligent than others. In 1994, Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles
Murray published The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. This
controversial bestseller differences between races and classes were the result of differences in
inherited intelligence which could not be changed. This has caused many people in the scientific
community to question if the study of intelligence can remain societally neutral. Roberts... Show

These study methods allow researchers to look for similarities and differences within the genome of
individuals of different intelligence levels. Using single nucleotide polymorphism testing,
researchers are able to look at single base pairs within the genome and make comparisons within a
population. With the technology that has developed in the last few decades, the study of
intelligence has become much more complex and in depth which has allowed geneticists to see
trends that they have not seen before. POLYGENIC: With the new genetic study technologies of
the twenty first century, researchers are able to conduct genome wide analysis studies as well as
single nucleotide polymorphism studies which can be used to determine which genes, if any, code
for intelligence. A study by Benyamin et al. (2014) used single nucleotide polymorphism testing to
compare the genomes of 17,989 children. The authors looked for genes in which children of similar
intelligence shared many single nucleotide polymorphisms. However, the authors did not find any
single nucleotide polymorphisms that reached a genome wide significance value. Thus, the authors
concluded that this result points to intelligence being the result of the aggregate effect of many
genes within the genome and not just one specific mother gene . However, while

United States Department Of Education Essay
Dear United States Department of Education,
I m currently a new student at Highline community college who is trying to keep up with the
fast pace and pressure of college. I want to be successful and pass all my classes with good
grades but, I know I can t do it all on my own. All the resources we have available to us as
students are very helpful such as tutors, counselors, and financial aid advisers and I intend to take
full advantage of all the resources available to me. It s very important to me that I pass my classes
because I am paying out of pocket, unlike most students who are on financial aid, or scholarships.
It s my first time being back in school since I dropped out of high school 2 years ago so I am facing

Therefore, more funding is needed for community colleges because getting the proper help from
advisers and having access to more counselors can be the difference maker in more students
graduating and transferring to 4 year colleges.
Second, community colleges need more funding for student services because all students are
different and some students won t fully understand the material being taught in class. More funding
is crucial for remedial classes. If community colleges received more funding for programs they can
put some of that money to use by having more remedial classes and giving remedial teachers
specialized training. The documentary called Discounted Dreams: High hopes and Harsh Realities
in America s Community College s states that Most remedial teachers do not have specialized
training . What this shows is that the schools don t put enough effort into these remedial classes
which in turn means that students in remedial classes are still facing the same challenges they did
in regular classes. If you don t give remedial teachers specialized training how can you expect them
to reach the students in the remedial classes
Last, Community Colleges need more funding for student s services and programs to help better
prepare them for a 4 year college. Community Colleges are supposed to prepare students for the
pressure that

Essay about Three Approaches to Coping with School Violence
We humans have always sought to increaseour personal energy in the only manner wehave known:
by seeking to psychologically steal it from others an unconscious competition that underlies all
human conflict in the world. (James Redfield, 1993, The Celestine Prophecy, New York: Warner
Books,65 66)
Some school critics and statisticians have observed that drug dealing, vandalism, robbery, and
murder have replaced gum chewing, talking out of turn, tardiness, and rudeness as the most chronic
problems afflicting today s schools. If the intent of this observation is to shock and rattle the public
s sensibilities, it s working. Of course, some of us may interpret such suggestions as merely dark,

1993 Harris survey (Youth Record, August 3), reveals
that 22% of students polled claimed they took weapons
to school in the previous school year (and how many
declined to admit it?); a Gallup poll conducted for Phi
Delta Kappan (Elam 1993, 137 152) showed the public
ranking drug abuse, discipline, and violence in the top
four of the ten most serious problems affecting schools.
And the depressing numbers drone on.
Yet, a MetLife teacher s survey in 1993 shows that
77% of teachers and 50% of kids felt safe in and
around their own schools (9). And according to a New York
Times article (1994), although violent incidents in New
York City s 1,100 public schools (K 12) rose 26% in
1993 94, no homicides occurred in them the first year
since 1990. Still, in the same article, New York City
Schools Chancellor Ramon C. Cortines laments:
When I read the list of weapons we have
seized, I wonder if we shouldn t start handing
out medals for valor instead of report cards.
The violence and weaponry in [New York
City s] streets and communities is (sic) being
imported into our school buildings. (27)
While the facts about school violence indeed have
quite a shock appeal, the attitudes and spirit of a major
ity of teachers and kids are admirable. But we must not

Temple University Stakeholder Analysis
Temple University initiated to develop 35,000 seat football stadium with an estimated cost of $100
million in the campus area of Philadelphia (Clearing the Way for a Football Stadium. Philly.com).
The objective of this stakeholder analysis paper is to identify the most powerful and influential
stakeholders of Temple University stadium using three attributes power, legitimacy and urgency.
There are two divisions of stakeholders Primary and Secondary Stakeholders. According to Clarkson
(1995), Primary stakeholders are the most important groups as there is high level of dependency
between each other and without which the organization/Institute cannot survive. On the other hand,
Secondary stakeholders are those who don t have direct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They don t have ownership or legal rights. Their interests are categorized in four different areas
which are career stability, student/school welfare, freedom of choice and the overall quality of
education. If Temple invest on developing a stadium and if it doesn t go well then it might affect
on employees career stability as they may redistribute employees to other departments. It could
affect overall quality of education/academics to Athletics. Also if the stadium moves in the
campus, obviously there would be a change in the culture hence it will affect student welfare.
Through survey result, we found that 66% people are against the building of a new stadium. So, if
I think about the freedom of choice, it looks like most of the employees don t think it would be a
good idea to build a new stadium because it only going to waste money. Temple could provide
money to develop community and invest on their education system. There are two stakeholders
who have strong relationships with each other. I think that the board of trustees and the football
program should work together as the project operation would depend on their decision. TU doesn t
have Legal responsibilities or Philanthropic obligation towards their employees. However, they have
Economic responsibilities. They need to think about the infrastructure and the cost to develop the
stadium. It could affect negatively on

Islam And Stereotypes
Islam is defined as the means of the active submission of one God (Muhammad) (What is Islam
About? 2015). Citing evidence describes Islam as strictly a monotheistic religion, as it restricts
worship to the one supreme Lord who is the Originator and Creator of the universe. People who
practice Islam are those who believe in one God and Muhammadis the final Prophet of God. Those
who practice Islamdevote their lives to the service of God. Islam teaches that God (called Allah in
Arabic) is the source of all creation and that human beings are the best of his creation (Ouisoc.org,
2015). * According to writer Anooshe Mushtaq of the Weekend Australian, (2015) Muslims can be

Tipping Research Paper
Moving takes a lot of work, both physically and emotionally. It can be a very trying time, even for
the most organized individuals. If you hire movers to assist you with your move, and they exceed
your expectations, be sure to thank your movers for their efforts with a fair tip.
Tipping Is Not Required
Within the moving industry, tipping is not required; it is optional. Unlike in the restaurant industry,
where servers rely on tips to supplement their wages, movers are generally adequately
compensated for their time. However, when a mover does an exceptional job, they do appreciate
earning a tip for their efforts.

You can provide them with a gift card to a local restaurant, so they can enjoy a meal out when
they are not on the job. If you provide them with a gift card to a restaurant, make sure there is
enough on the card to cover a meal and drinks at that restaurant for them and a companion. You
could also provide them with a small gift card to a local or popular store in your area.
Cash: Finally, you can tip your movers with cash. Unlike when going out to eat, you don t have to
base your tip on what you are paying the moving company. If your move took all day, a tip of $20
per mover would be adequate and fair. If your moving job was really small and only took a few
hours, a tip of $10 per mover would work. These are just suggestions; if you feel like your movers
were exceptional, or did a great job with a tough move, feel free to tip them more.
Keep in mind that tipping is not required within the moving industry; however, it is a great way
to say thank to your movers if they did an exceptional job and made your moving experience less
stressful. If you think you might want to tip your movers, make sure you have the means necessary
to tip them at the end of your move; you may not see your moving crew after

Obstacles In The Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
The poem Mother to Son by Langston Hughes is a free verse conversation between a mother and
her son. The mother talks about the stairs using it as a metaphor for life. She outlines life not
being easy by telling her son that the stairs she ascended on was not perfect. When Langston wrote
this essay, life was difficult particular for people of color. The mothertells the sonthat he will have
numerous obstacles in life by saying the stairs had various challenges to get pass. Of course, the
mother in the poem tries to encourage her son to keep moving in life. The way the poem opens,
it looks like the son was feeling discouraged and asked for her advice. It appears that life had
thrown a curve ball at the son and he wants to give up. She begins

Thesis For Nickel And Dimed
A Journey Too Extreme In Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich proclaims that while on a
mission to experience the struggles in the everyday life of the poor, she will never be able to
fully understand what it s like to be in that situation. Throughout her journey, she comes across
many different people and job opportunities, making for a different outcome every time.
Although there was variation of variables, her response to troubling situations was always the
same: giving up. For example, while she was working in a restaurant in Key West, she decided to
quit her job as a waitress after being yelled at by her supervisor. The same day, she quit a
housekeeping job due to the low pay $6.50 an hour. In another instance, she quit her job as

promoted and get more money. His wife is about to go out to a movie by herself, leaving Tom
with a guilty conscience. He thinks that by working more and getting more money he will make
his wife happier in the end. Tom doesn t realize that money does not make people happy, it s what

  • 2. The Populism Movement The election of 1892, the year former President Grover Cleveland was reelected after defeating President Benjamin Harrison. President Grover Cleveland lost the electoral vote in 1888 against Harrison, but in 1892 Cleveland made a comeback. Even though President Cleveland and President Harrison represented the two main parties, a third party had risen in popularity during this time. The People Party received popularity in this election, making them the first third party to receive electoral votes since the 1860 Presidential Race. The populismmovement started as way for farmers to fight back against dropping crop prices, forced debt, and economic abuse received by capitalistic corporations. Populism in other words is the movement made by farmer in order to receive economic, political, and social equality in the reconstructing country. Farmers during this time were in debt due to the investments on machinery but did not produce enough wealth. Surely farmers had huge field but due to inflation of crop prices, farmers were not treated in the same economic or social class as those in corporations. In the election in 1892 the Peoples Party presidential candidate was James Weaver who managed to win several western states, such as Idaho s and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overproduction was an issue the populist tried to address, yet they failed. The Subtreasury Plan was proposed, which states crops would be stored in government facilities and used as collateral for struggling farmers. This appealed many farmers but they failed in 1890. However when addressing the gold standard, the Populist Party received support from many. They pushed for remonetizing silver in gold was very difficult to find. The forests name was derived from the Romans who referred to Scotland as Caledonia , meaning wooded heights in Latin (Woodland Restoration in Scotland. 2008 October 05). The dominant species of the Caledonian Forests is the Scot pine. Unfortunately, climate changes over centuries have caused the forest to diminish. The destruction of the forests for building materials, charcoal and other resources required the people of the British Isle to use stone and move to other areas to find natural resources. Today only 10% of the United Kingdomis forest (United Kingdom. 2014, March 07). The Caledonian Forest is a unique ecosystem of the British Isles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Avatar Effect What I call the Avatar effect plays a pervasive (if unconscious) role on the road. Basically, it comes down to moral hazard: people are more likely to take risks when they feel they are shielded from the consequences of their actions. Especially when they feel detached from danger via avatars or proxies. Like Jake Sully (the crippled main character of Avatar), who uses a super expensive Na vi human hybrid, to transport himself to a place where he can make a fortune (for someone else, and a (relative) pittance for himself); people conduct themselves in a manner that corresponds to their perceived risk/reward ratio. Jake was quite emboldened by the fact that he himself was not at risk of dying when he was going about Pandora in his Na vi Avatar. There was only a small sense of fiscal preservation in his actions. Obviously, drivers are not as reckless as Jake, for whom death was taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drivers subconsciously feel almost anonymous and essentially invincible once inside their cars. The rolling metal machines take all the punishment, while protecting all passengers inside. That is why people do not mind cutting strangers off in a manner that makes them have to slam on their brakes to avoid collision. The way selfish people see it, the worst possible outcome of that is a fender bender that gives them a palpable excuse for being late to work. They (like Jake) are also held aback by the fear of losing such an expensive product. Granted, much of that fear is mitigated by insurance companies (straight out of pandora s box) who are now brazenly siphoning resources from people (though not the Na vi s unobtainium (but only because they are fictional)). People drive as reckless as they do because they feel safe in their automotive avatars. They have seen countless crash test dummies walk away from brutal collisions of all kinds, with impacts emanating from every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medicine In Muslim World Essay Medicine in the Muslim World and the Americas, 700 1500 Medicine was an important part of the Muslim world; both rich and poor people were interested in health and diseases. In fact, one of the greatest contributions to the Muslim world to modern medicine is the preservation of many of the original works of philosophers, poets and physicians. Subsequently, Muslim doctor and scholars wrote about health and developed an extensive complex medical literature. Unlike medical literature today, which is specialized, but in the medieval world amalgamated amongst natural science, astrology, alchemy, religion, philosophy and mathematics are medical literature (Nordqvist, 2012). Yet few of these students feel prepared for the challenge that is adult life. After living with their parents for 17 18 years, the move away from home and getting saddled with a plethora of responsibilities can be jolting. William Allen has many graduation requirements, but an Independent Living class is not one of them. This needs to change. High Schoolought to prepare students for the everyday aspect of collegeand life after school, not just the academic aspect of college. But the way our high school curriculum is designed it only prepares us for the academic aspect of college, and without regard to people who may choose to take a gap year or not go to college. • 10. Evaluation Of Mcode Using The Gavin Data Evaluation of MCODE using the Gavin data set of protein interactions and complexes In this study, we wanted to use all forms of protein interaction data available, which requires combining of different types of experiments, such as yeast two hybrid and co immunoprecipitation. Two hybrid results are naturally pairwise, whereas copurification results are sets of one or more identified proteins. For a copurification result, only a set of size 2 can be directly considered a pairwise communication, otherwise it must be modeled as a set of hypothetical interactions. Biochemical copurifications can be thought of as populations of complexes with some hidden pairwise protein interaction topology that is unknown from the experiment. In the general case of the purification used by Gavin et al., one weakness tagged protein was used as bait to pull associated proteins out of a yeast cell lysate. The two intense cases for the topology underlying the population of complexes from a single purification experiment are a minimally connected spoke model, where the data are modeled as explicit bait associated protein pairwise synergy, and a maximally connected matrix model, where the data are modeled as all proteins connected to all others in the set. The real topology of the set of proteins must lie around between these two extremes. It was expected that all members of the American militia be clean shaven. He splashed some cold water on his face from the wash basin and reached for his Perret razor which had an l shaped wooden handle and long straight blade. Rock n Roll 20th Century Culture Essay Rock n roll and 20th Century Culture According to Philip Ennis, rock n roll emerged from the convergence of social transformations which resulted from World War II (Ryan 927). Despite its pop culture origins, rock music is arguably one of the strongest cultural factors to develop in this century. Artists such as Lennon, McCartney and Dylan defined the emotions of a generation and, in the last decade, it as even been acknowledged by members of the establishment which it hoped to change as a major influence in the country. In order to understand how rock went from a sign of rebellion to a cultural icon, it is necessary to understand where it came from. According to Albert... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rock n roll music came of age in the sixties which was a period in the nation s history when a young generation expressed their anguish and sense of alienation to the country s social establishments by searching for new answers to the age old questions concerning the meaning of life, the value of the individual, and the nature of truth and spirituality (Harris 306). The classic rock music which was created during this period gave form and substance to this search. Songs such as My Generation by the Who recorded the keen sense of alienation that young people felt from the past and the Establishment and it also showed the keen sense of community they felt among themselves. Classic albums such as the Beatles White Album, the Who s Who s Next, Dylan s Highway 61 Revisited, and Pink Floyd s Dark Side of the Moon capture what was essential about the time because they were both a result of that time and because they helped to produce it by reinforcing the younger generation s feelings of alienation and separation. The Causes Of The Migration Series By Jacob Lawrence The Migration series by Jacob Lawrence is a sequence of sixty paintings (with captions) portraying the mass movement of African Americans from the rural South to cities in the North and West during the beginning of the twentieth century. The artist was the child of African American migrants, and he grew up during the 1930s in Harlem, where he took art classes. In planning the series, Lawrence did a lot of library research on the history and causes of the migration. My point is similar to this one in a scholarly article: The narrative . . . is not linear, but alternates between the insistent portrayal of the dominant event in the plot the actual physical displacement of the people and paintings dealing with the main causes of this mass migration (Tribe 405). This quotation brings us back to the issue of causes, which I think is related to the opposition individual/society. When Lawrence depicts the causes pushing African Americans out of the South (like lynching, child labor, injustice, and discrimination), he usually shows us only one person or a small group, like a family. Some of the causes pulling migrants away from the South (labor agents, letters from kin) also are shown having their effect on individuals or small groups. But when ... Lincoln s frustration stemmed from the lack of cognitive flexibility that General Scott was demonstrating. The Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2017a) highlights that cognitive flexibility involves incorporating different thinking strategies and mental frameworks into your planning, decision making, and day to day activities (pg. 4). A few days later, hot air balloons were scanning the battlefields and relaying messages to ground commanders. Court Observation At Harris County Criminal Justice Court Quan Nguyen Business Law Professor Donna Kohlhausen November 14, 2016 Court Observation Paper The court I attended was the court # 184, on October 25th 2015 at Harris County Criminal Justice Court , located in downtown of Houston city. The Judge in charge was Jan Krocker. It was an aggravated sexual assault of child case between The State of Texas vs. Samuel Gallegos. As I entered the court, the trial has already commenced so I did not really know how a real trial started. I sat in the back where the public sits, facing the judge bench. The courtroom was cold and quiet. Especially it was very small, much smaller and less impressive than I expected.. Everyone was in formal dressing code. There were just a few number of spectators and family members in the court room. There was a clerk who was typing everything what was happening during the court time. Judge Krocker appeared to have things under control and had the proceedings moving forward smoothly. She was a very friendly lady with short blonde hair. She was listening attentively. She spoke clearly and distinctly so that everyone in the courtroom could hear. Samuel Gallegos is a white man about 5 8 tall. He looked quite nervous while some police officers were standing behind him. From what I understood, this case was really happening back in 2014 and the suspect has criminal history relating to assault of child and another related case to this case. Mexican born author, Octavio Paz, in his short story, My Life with the wave suggests the protagonist is symbolic and then remains a supernatural character best understood in literal terms. He supports his claim by showing the reader the speakers difficulty of finding a place for the wave out of the ocean, how the protagonist suffers imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, and of how through the death of the wave the protagonist is able to free himself from the pain and torment he faced when he was engaged in a relationship with the wave. Paz s intention is to use the symbolism in order show the negative side of falling in love. Octavio Pazadopts an intense tone for the somber reader. The short storyLife with the Wave, written by Octavio Paz leads us through an intense relationship between a simple man and a wave. Octavio Paz uses the wave to symbolize a woman. Why We Shouldn T Team Sports Be Good The reputation of some team sports has been corroded by unfortunate events caused by fans, reason why some people are now asking themselves if team sports can really be good for us. The world of soccer, for instance, to which many people look up to and turn to in order to keep fit, build their character, and have fun, has been tainted by the violent and antisocial behaviour of some fans. I believe that the violent acts carried out by these fans have nothing to do with the fact of team sports being good for us or not, at least when it comes to people who practice these sports to keep fit and for leisure. • 28. Being A Mental State Of Awareness Conscious is thought to be a mental state in which we are able to process information and act on it. However this term is used to describe a state of awareness while awake whereas there seems to be varying levels of consciousness that describe most mental states. If information can be perceived (knowing or unknowingly) then it is likely that you are conscious, e.g. even when in light sleep we can dream and may even wake up on hearing a loud noise, therefore the brain still processes information, however in deep sleep this is not the case. When looking at consciousness, there is what Levine described as the explanatory gap (Levine, 1983). This states that in the present moment we are not able to provide an explanation for the phenomena that is consciousness however as time goes on and our knowledge of neuroscience increases this gap will close gradually until it is non existent (Block Young, 1996). However despite this statement being made by Levine around 30 years ago, the explanatory gap still remains although it is clearly beginning to close, we still have some way to go before we can begin to understand what consciousness is. Consciousness is inherently a subjective matter as there are many different meanings for the word which are seemingly thrown around without much thought, there is no way to prove that one normal experience of consciousness is the same as another (qualia) and we are unable to scientifically explain conscious experiences. The four I chose was ultrasound, hydrotherapy, gym equipment, and electrotherapy. The use of technology in the physical therapy is not uncommon and most of the time it helps speed up the process of recovery. The technologies are not that advanced like some other fields but they get their job done. The first thing I ve chosen to talk about is the ultrasound. The utilization of ultrasound was thought to help in producing delicate tissue. This practice has since stopped in light of the fact that it has been demonstrated insufficient in this regard. Nonetheless, ultrasound has numerous other therapeutic applications.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All I would do was put some ultrasound gel on my leg and rub it for ten to fifteen minutes with the transducer probe, which is that part that sends out the sound waves. When in high school I had a back injury and to help loosen me up before games and practice I would go take a hot bath in the whirlpool to help me ease the pain. It was a good form of hydrotherapy that I could do myself when it was time for me to take the hot bath all I had to do was fill the tub up and turn on the jet to get the water to keep moving in circulation. I ve used an exercise bike and ball during rehab after having surgery. I use the bike to help build up my stamina after being out because I couldn t go and run until I was released. To help get my balance back there was a part of an exercise ball that you stand on that helps strengthen ankle balance. I ve even used electrotherapy after surgery to help my muscles in my lower leg contract since I couldn t do it myself the muscle had diminished badly well in the cast, I use to just hook the tens unit up then put the electric patches on my legs and turn it up to I could feel the pulse and see it ... The Martin Luther King Jr. library was the only library I could think that held numerous, historical chronicles. Primarily, I strived to find a specific book called Why Vietnam Invaded Cambodia: Political Culture and the Causes of War by Stephen J. Morris. By quickly examining the book on the Internet, this book was perfect for my topic; the title of the book was even a giveaway. However, the library lost the novel; I looked everywhere on the shelf and came up with nothing. Numerous countries felt threatened by the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia; Thailand authorized for Khmer Rouge authorities to seek refuge in their nation. Societal Impacts Of Genetic Study Of Intelligence SOCIETAL IMPACTS OF GENETIC STUDY OF INTELLIGENCE: Throughout history racism has been centered on phenotypic differences between races such as skin color. Also, there was a multitude of false information that was created by racism, for example, the claim that certain races have the predisposition to be less intelligent than others. In 1994, Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray published The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. These study methods allow researchers to look for similarities and differences within the genome of individuals of different intelligence levels. Using single nucleotide polymorphism testing, researchers are able to look at single base pairs within the genome and make comparisons within a population. With the technology that has developed in the last few decades, the study of intelligence has become much more complex and in depth which has allowed geneticists to see trends that they have not seen before. POLYGENIC: With the new genetic study technologies of the twenty first century, researchers are able to conduct genome wide analysis studies as well as single nucleotide polymorphism studies which can be used to determine which genes, if any, code for intelligence. A study by Benyamin et al. (2014) used single nucleotide polymorphism testing to compare the genomes of 17,989 children. The authors looked for genes in which children of similar intelligence shared many single nucleotide polymorphisms. However, the authors did not find any single nucleotide polymorphisms that reached a genome wide significance value. Thus, the authors concluded that this result points to intelligence being the result of the aggregate effect of many genes within the genome and not just one specific mother gene . However, while ...
