A Poll Conducted By The Aspca Revealed That 94% Of Americans
A poll conducted by the ASPCA revealed that 94% of Americans believe that production
animals, specifically those raised for food, deserve to live a comfortable life free of cruelty and
neglect. Despite this belief, many factory farm animals are abused and neglected in such ways
that, if witnessed by consumers, would not be accepted. Over 99% of the United State s farm
animals live on factory farms that use them for means of profit, many of them violating the Animal
Welfare Act and other laws put in place to protect the humane treatment of animals (ASPCA). This
abuse is not limited to any specific type of farm animal. Although different animals are used for
different purposes, they all share a common suffering and a need for humane care.... Show more

Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a
long windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the
size of a drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep
this from happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull
the pain. Hens who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die
slowly and painfully. Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to
supply more chickens for egg production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they
are often killed by grinding or suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many
eggs, many farmers will deny them proper nutrition to try and shock their bodies into laying
eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of
the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory farms where they are overcrowded and
treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are stolen from their mothers and placed
in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the piglets do not have much range of
motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This can cause extreme irritation so
they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails and teeth without a sedative
to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S.

The Influence Of Du Bois On Progressive Education
must have higher schools to teach teachers for the common schools (Of the Training of Black
Men). Du Bois believed that these initiatives were crucial in order to catch up to whites and
establish a platform for blacks. Based on the aforementioned aspirations of Du Bois, witnesses can
find overlapping ideas on progressive education from the Early Republic era. However, the main
additive to the scene during the Progressive Era by Du Bois was to establish political opportunity
for African Americans. This would have to be accomplished by recognizing black identity through
cultural and intellectual movements. Overall, these historical concepts and leaders opened up
opportunities to extend on the goals of the Early Republic Era. Again, these hopes

What Is Leonard Huxley s Influence On Brave New World
Aldous Leonard Huxley was was born into a family that loved working in the English ruling
class made up of the intellectual elite. Huxley was born on July 26 of 1894, in Godalming,
England. His father was the son of Thomas Huxley in which he was a great biologist. His
grandfather also helped develop the theory of evolution. Huxley was the fourth child in the
family. His father, Leonard, was a teacher and a writer; and his mother, Julia, was a descendant of
the English poet Matthew Arnold ( Biography). As he is surrounded by mostly English majors in
his family so they are his influences in which he takes to his career path in. Even though, when he

California which is where it may be said he lived the rest of his life. He was a screenwriter for
many projects a like, After a Many Summer Dies the Swan. Many have said that from all his
losses in his past, his mother who had died from cancer and his brother whom had took his own
life due to severe depression, that maybe a part of the reasons why Huxley was encouraged to write
Brave New World. The work also marked a change in Huxley himself (Cliff Notes). Huxley
thought the near future would be alike the utopia he had created in Brave New World. He was
changed by the book and what he had lost even after the book he lost someone that had a big

The Ancient Greek Of Ancient Greece
The ancient Greeks highly valued the strength and power in a spoken word. Political, economic,
cultural, and social life of the Ancient Greeks can be seen in their plays. They thus relied on words
to communicating. Their desire to communicate and pass crucial information led to the creation of
numerous plays across the region. The ancient Greek plays were both entertaining and educative
thus reflecting on the kind of life that this person lived (Hogan 11). Their settings can suggest a lot
about the circumstances and conditions under which this play was performed. The dramatic
presentations were crucial to Athenians, a fact that can be seen from the numerous and well spread
theatres across the city. The paper will focus on how the ancient... Show more content on

The effects of violence were so disastrous and they were punished by god. The play is a
significant description of the lifestyle in Greek at that particular time. God punishing those who
do not obey him was a common belief among the ancient Greeks. The fact that he was a king
implied that he had to set a good example by leading the people so that they can fear gods. The
Antigone, is an example of an ancient play where a lot of elements that can be seen on stage can
be used to interpret and analyze the Greek culture. Like in other Greek plays, masks were used in
the Antigone to convey emotions and capture themes in the play. An example is that masks worn
by different people signaled political power. The voice of the actor was greatly amplified by the
shape of the masks. The audiences were able to hear the actors when they were in masks.
Moreover, the types of clothing in both The Bacchae and The Antigone were a representation of
the Greek culture. Stage in most ancient Greek plays was composed of four main areas. The first
was around place in which plays and acts were done. The audience sat on the theatron , then there
was the building behind the state which was decorated as a temple or a palace called the skene ,
the last place was the passageways

Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through
the similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of
God and Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good
and evil, and choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal
with these things with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon.
The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam
and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best
lamb, while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain
becomes infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage.
Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is?
No, I don t, said Cal. . . .
He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he?
How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410)
This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain
that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel
is missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam
and Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements
Cal and Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of

WWE NO MERCY 2017 TOP MATCHES AND RESULTS
With the WWE pay per view No Mercy looming around the corner, the wresting world has been
given a few very good matches. WWE Summersalm 2017 was more or less a mediocre pay per
view with the spotlight being more on whether Brock Lesnar was leaving the WWE. It has been
rumored for some time that Brock Lesnar is going to face Jon Johns in an UFC match. But WWE
managed to keep the universe to the edge of their seats, with Brock retaining the title against Samoa
Joe, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns. But for the WWE Raw roster, that was the highlight.
Having said that, it is clear now that WWE was setting up the competitors for a longer storyline
leading to No Mercy 2017.
Surprisingly, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Monster among Men has been getting better at his mic skills and in a recent match absolutely
decimated The Big Show. It is highly unlikely that WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will
lose the title just yet. He cannot return to UFC until he gets tested by USADA (United States Anti
Doping Agency). Although it is noteworthy that he is free to return to the ring as his ban ended in
July 2017. And it is rumored that he will honor his commitment to the WWE till WrestleMania 34.
But the match is supposed to push Braun even more as a top contender for the WWE Universal
Championship, which he might win in WrestleMania.
One of the biggest matches in WWE No Mercy 2017 will be the Women s Championship. The
title has lost some of its glory since Charlotte Flair was transferred to WWE Smackdown. With a
lack of proper feuds and storylines, it seemed that all the interest garnered by the Women s
revolution was lost. However, in recent weeks the red brand has been trying to build up a feud
between Sasha Banks and the WWE Women s Champion Alexa Bliss. There is no doubt the five
feet of fury has been the breakout women s star with exceptional mic and in ring skills. But with
Bayley out of action and heavily getting booed in recent house shows. WWE had to look for other
options. In comes Emma and Nia Jax. The later has been getting more and more over with the fans

Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music
Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a
major skill needed for a developing music performer is the ability to sight read (Paul), which is an
important factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a
compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson).
In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted
on music literacy. In what research has been done, it is shown that music literacy and sight reading
ability acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review
that examines the research of variables and predictors of sight reading abilities and music literacy
knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose of this review is to synthesize published
articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that
affect the acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general
observations were used in this review.
First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be
evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been observed while reading music will be
reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success of sight
reading will be introduced.

Dance Of The Hours Analysis
Dance of the Hours composed by Amilcare Ponchielli s from his opera La Gioconda takes us on a
journey through the hours of the day. We will be reviewing three versions of this composition
where the ballet through dance and costume, the orchestra through music, and staging or film
techniques assist in representing the hours in a day (dawn, morning, twilight and night). These
three previously recorded versions in review are in the forms of classical, modern, and Disney s
Fantasia version of the ballet.
The classical version is set on a single level stage where the orchestra in not in view. The prima
ballerina features the traditional tutu with the stiff material protruding from the waist. She is
assisted with a male partner (pas de deux) as she eloquently floats on her toes (pointe) and easily
raises her leg while twirling on the other (Pirouette). She is truly the star of the show as the other
ballerinas in similar dress, support the story line from the background by performing low splits on
the stage creating the sense of dawn into morning. As the ballet continues into twilight, the
supporting ballerinas are then paired with male partners assisting them with their pointes and
pirouette s. The lighting of the stage does not seem to change much with a constant blue dimmed
light in the background, particular members of the audience can be heard clapping while the
majority of the audience does not.
The modern version is a much different performance and has much more of an

1970s Communism Research Paper
During the 1970s communism started to gain popularity among Asian countries, for instance in
Vietnam and Cambodia. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People
Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most
prominent communist party at that time. This is because the ex ruler Sihanouk supported it. In the
beginning of its rule the KPRP was accepting of the monks and even Chantou Boua, a woman who
was in Cambodiaduring the civil war period of 1970 1975, stated that it was not entirely clear what
the Khmers policy was towards Buddhism . However, this was during a time before the Khmer
Rougehad complete power. With the support of Sihanouk, who devised a militant organization...

This source is somewhat reliable because it was an extract of a government file. However, during
this time the government was corrupt and therefore that eliminates some of its reliability. Despite
this though, historians are aware of the fact that the Khmer Rouge were trying to indoctrinate the
youth in order to gain more control over the population and create a new generation that supports
them. Therefore, we are able to assume that this information is reliable. Also, it is a known fact
that in 1974, the Khmer Rouge established reeducation centers that held around two hundred
monks in order to, among other things, dissuade them from escaping. The Khmer Rouge also
employed other tactics in order to keep the monks in Cambodia. Another account recorded by
Harris was that of a man called Ven. Nhem Kim Teng. His account illustrates why there were a
minimal amount of escape attempts in the early stages of the war. In 1974, many monks were
becoming more apprehensive of the situation that was developing in Cambodia. There were a lot
more war machines and more distaste towards the Buddhist monks. A lot of them wanted to go to
Kampuchea Krom but didn t because of the fear that

The Impact Of Remittances
In recent times, overseas workers have been sending larger remittances annually to their home
countries. These remittances proves to be a vital source of foreign exchange for developing
countries. The overall development impact of remittances, however, has not been well established.
Remittances are spent primarily on day to day consumption expenditures, housing, land purchase,
and debt repayment. Remittancesare also directed into productive investments. Remittances spent on
domestic goods and services in Pakistan provide motivation to domestic industries. From a
macroeconomic perspective, remittances can boost aggregate demand and thereby GDP as well as
a catalyst for economic growth.

Consumption smoothing . Many recipients of remittances, especially in rural areas, have highly
variable incomes. Remittances allow better matching of incomes and spending, the misalignment of
which otherwise threatens survival and/or the taking on of debt.
Education. In many developing countries, education is expensive at all levels, whatever the formal
commitments of the State. Remittances can allow for the payment of school fees and can provide
the wherewithal for children to attend school rather than working for family survival.[2]
Housing. The use of remittances for the construction, upgrading and repair of houses is prominent
in many widely different circumstances.
Health. Remittances can be employed to access preventive and ameliorative health care. As with
education, affordable health care is often unavailable in many remittance recipient countries.
Debt. Remittances provide for the repayment of debts and for the means to avoid the taking on of

The Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence On Society
On average an American is exposed to approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of
eighteen. However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns
regarding whether television and video game violence has a negative effect on society by
promoting violence, dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research
conducted on the issue are unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other.
In fact, statistics demonstrate how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly
throughout time despite growing video gamepopularity. Lastly, in society people look for anything
to transfer the blame, especially in regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s society.
As a matter of fact, by reviewing the extensive research the conclusion was drawn stating exposure
has no effect on violence. Therefore, television and video game violence does not have a
negative effect on society. Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically,
the studies conducted fail to asses accurate information essential in the process of proving cause
and effect. Not to mention, previous studies that revealed a link between the two factors only
focused on short term effects and did not take other factors into account. In reality, children get
riled up over images they may see and are likely to act out for a short period of time. However, this
does not prove overall harm to a society

Boeing decided to change the rules of the way large passenger aircraft were developed through its

There are many aspects that caused this delay but one of main reason was that the supply chain of
the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was not properly integrated and coordinated. The virtual model of the
Boeing 787 Dreamliner was not up to the mark and it actually failed due to the use of composite
materials, this was also the reason that the project was delayed. This was the first time that Boeing
had outsourced both the manufacturing and design of the 787 to other companies where as for the
other planes Boeing had only outsourced the manufacturing and had kept the design under its own
control. (Cohan 2011).
Boeing contracted with over 50 suppliers after their decision to outsource 60% of its design and
production. This decision was to reduce the cost, this was a very good decision in terms of
reducing cost but Boeing should have given a thought about the risks of outsourcing, which in the
end hit them real hard. The supply chain of Boeing was designed in such a way that Boeing
functions as the final assembler and the integrator. The supply chain was so extensive that parts of
the 787 were being moved globally before they reached the final assembly unit. The 787 s wings
were going from Japan to Washington, fuselage sections 43 from Japan to South Carolina and then
to Washington. There was a lack of communication and coordination between the design engineers

Reflection On Clinical Placement
DESCRIPTION During my clinical placement, I have done the nursing standard 2 which is
engaging in therapeutic and professional relationships. An example of one event in my
placement where I have done this standard is when doing interviews in my two week community
placement at the Community Rehabilitation in Armadale Hospital. For my reflection, I will be
using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988). FEELINGS I am normally a very shy person so when
we were told that we were to do interviews on the first day of my community placement I felt
scared. I did not know how to approach people confidently let alone do an interview. I knew I
could do it but I was not confident enough. I was already feeling overwhelmed because it was my
first time to be placed in a hospital. EVALUATION The good thing in my experience would be
that I got to have the experience of doing interviews and I actually enjoyed it. I also gained more
confidence in interacting with my patients. The not so good thing would be that I have gained
confidence in talking to my patients but not the staff or the people I was working with. I was
still very shy in communicating with them. ANALYSIS I have learnt to do interviews during my
placement. Because I took that step out of my comfort zone I believe that I have learnt a lot. I
have learnt to take a step out of my shell and try. I have learnt that it is not worth getting worked
up over doing interviews and talking to people, as it will be a major part of my

Different Theories Of Development Throughout The Lifespan...
The purpose of this paper is to explore the different themes and theories of development throughout
the lifespan and challenges of the characters within the movie There Will Be Blood . Although
maturation was the theme held by many theorists in the past as the reason for development, modern
developmentalist continue to study the development even though it confronts other significant
themes. However, theories of development have varied over time as well as the approach taken by
each of the developmental theorist. These theories have two functions, they comprehensively
integrate knowledge to account for the development process and provide behavioral predictors for
testing. This paper will examine the relationship of Albert Bandura, Urie Bronfenbrenner, and Mary
Ainsworths theories and how they are applicable to the development of different individuals as they
transitions through stages of their life s and how these theories could be beneficial during
counseling and interventions.
Movie Overview
The movie There Will Be Blood (Sellar, Anderson, Lupi, 2007) starts in the year 1898, in the

Their market position also suggests that Ibis caters for those with a mid budget (Mintel 2009), and
those looking for extra services such as internet connection and food catering.
Secondary research shows us that Ibis has a fairly respectable reputation in the UK, serving as a
low profile hotel chain. A study found that over 60% of customers thought their experience was
either excellent or good, with around 6 8% finding their experience either poor or unsatisfactory
(Mintel 2009). Moreover, further research shows that Ibis shares a similar correlation to the
average budget hotel, scoring slightly under par with regards to friendliness. The hotel suffers from
a lack of stand out feature, as the Mintel Budget Hotels UK August 2009 report points out, Ibis ...

Another interesting consumer attitude is the general opinion towards Ibis s environmental stance.
A July 2009 survey discovered that only a small percentage (around 5%) thought Ibis cares for the

Particularly during this investigation, Green s Equal Protection and the African American
Constitutional Experience became the focus of the pro social angle. Within a section specifically
oriented towards the FSA, he sites legal cases such as Commonwealth v. Aves and Ableman v.
Booth in which the Supreme Court enforced the FSA. He also sites Northern laws which were
put into play to combat the blow of the FSA. In both legal cases, slaves were freed from their state
of captivity. However, Green mentions that both cases had little impact across the nation (Green
56). From quotes such as these, it seems Green tends to write in a way that belittles the occasions
when African Americans win small cases for freedom. The Northern law Green sites was Ohio law
of 1854 stating that kidnapping in the black community was illegal (Green 85). Although not
directly, Green states that this was advancement towards equal and legal recognition of African
Americans. Each of his sources concerning African American equality are legal documents and
show little opinion, however his interpretations of the documents are very reserved in any
celebration or commendation for legal recognition of Blacks.

Virginia Woolf s Orlando Is A Work That Bends The Rules...
Virginia Woolf s Orlando is a work that bends the rules in multiple ways. It plays with the idea of
biographies, it questions the nature of fiction writing, it incorporates humor in bizarre ways.
And on top of all that it brings into view certain controversial topics, and certain prejudices of
Woolf s time. The two prejudices this paper will be focusing on are homophobia and sexism. By
looking at the character of Orlando and examining his/her relationships, romantic feelings, and
place in society, we can clearly see Woolf writing back against society s prejudices and fears of the
1920s. In a society of genderroles and sexuality closely monitored and defined, Woolf creates
something unexpected, unacceptable (in some people s eyes), and... Show more content on

Woolf never blatantly states that any of the characters in Orlando are homosexual. Instead she uses
almost mischievous undertones to hint the fact to her readers. This can be found right at the
beginning of the novel, when Orlando meets Sasha. Orlando is unable to tell whether Sasha is a
man or a woman, for her height and her clothes make her appear androgynous. Orlando is
attracted to Sasha as an individual, entirely separate from the fact about her gender (Kao, 2). One
of the main arguments of the homosexual movement is to see people as people, not as men and
women. An individual can love whoever he/she wants no matter what their sex. It is not about a
person s gender, it is about the person him/herself. And though our narrator later does tell us that
Orlando was ready to tear his hair with vexation that the person was of his own sex..., we don t
forget those mischievous undertones Woolf threw at us upon their first meeting (Woolf, 17). Right
off the bat, Woolf is introducing us to a character who is embracing this idea of individualistic
love, and hinting at relationships that may not be heterosexual. Woolf is fighting against the idea of
being attracted to a person because of their sex, and welcoming the idea of being attracted to
someone as an individual.
We can also see homosexual undertones in the relationship between Orlando and the Archduchess

Palestine Water Conflict Essay
The Palestine and Michigan water crises have narratives to justify both inequality and equality of
the water distribution. In each case, It may seem like one side is more agreeable than the other,
however both sides are able to validate their part. These justifications will be further explained by
the narratives about water that correlate with each event.
To Palestine, water is a human right. Palestinians are not able to access water from the Jordan
River because the proposed construction of a water canal was shut down due to the Israeli
occupancy of the land that it would need to pass through (Friends of the Earth International, 2013).

In this case they are specifically talking about clean water. The state government switched their
water supply to the Flint River in order to save money and failed to put water treatments in place.
Throughout the crisis, the concerns or the citizens and professionals were continually set aside.
This resulted in lead polluted water reaching the homes of the civilians and causing many long term
health issues (Ganim, Tran, 2013). The intense effects on the civilians justifies their claim that
clean water is a human right.
The at the time of the water supply switch in Flint, the Michigan government was experiencing
financial difficulties. This is a main reason why the supply was switched to begin with. The
government did not add corrosion control treatments because they weren t able to do so without
updating equipment that was too expensive for the city (Kaffer, 2016). The government was not
able to afford proper water treatment but did not want to completely cut off the water supply to the
civilians. The tests they had conducted showed rising levels of lead but not enough for them to
believe they should deny water supply (Kaffer, 2016). The government s severe financial situation
justifies their actions of water distribution.
The actors in each water crisis situation have a way to justify their decisions. Whether it is equitable
or inequitable outcomes, people seem to make the choices that seem best to

Roman Civilization
It is undeniable that the Roman civilization made a tremendous impact in the modern world. From
education to politics, Rome has made an important mark in the world by enabling its citizens to
share their culture and knowledge to all their dominion. What makes the Roman civilization unique
is not the preservation of their own culture but the embrace of the cultures of their colonies.
Rome started from a group of villagers living along the Tiber River in Italy. For more than 200
years Rome was under the rule of Kings. Then Rome became a Republic when people began
holding elections to choose their representatives in the Senate. The Senate is the most powerful
body of government in Rome.
The Roman civilization was primarily shaped by religion and politics. When Romans interact with
other people, they influence them through worship and beliefs. A family s religious practice stayed
the same, however, the state religion was significantly changed. When Greek Olympus was
introduced to Italy, the Romans adopted their ideas and stories about the gods, where they elaborate
more and became conspicuous when they worship. However, these changes did not improve their
religion. The Roman religion, compelling the ideas of other people, have become an extensive and
complex form of paganism. The Paganism and supremacy was successfully eradicated. In 313 BC,
Constantine made Christianity legal. Moreover, Theodosius made Christianity the official religion
of the Empire, supporting the

What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger
The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the
most meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they
must arrive to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a
concise message. William Blakedoes just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamband The
Tyger. The poems The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to
create romanticism and to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence
and power. In the poem The Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem

It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such
rare potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every
poem he has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he
has experienced. His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely
different things. Blake s songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how
nature is more related to ourselves than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a
different perspective that involves the loss of innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting
poems in order to teach readers and scholars the important relationships they have with each other.
The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that
makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered human questions. Naturally many view a lamb
as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for him to tell his message.
The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed
as merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the
immense power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it

Characteristics of a Hero Essay
Characteristics of a Hero A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger
than oneself (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or
professional athletes, but it s not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how
you help society. What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her
obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery. Overcoming obstacles may be
one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it s the hardest because a lot of people are blocked
from doing something and just quit. A great example of this trait is Jackie Robinson. He was

In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you
would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference
in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career
at just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make
him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he
stated, At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he s
seventy he still wants to reform the world (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to
posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don t always know what lies ahead of you and
you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first
person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no
one had ever made it across, so he didn t know what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes
he said, The most effective way to do it, is to just do it , (Lindburgh 1). So as you may see
overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to becoming a great
hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for

Ancient Civilization And The Aztec Civilization Essay
One of the greatest ancient Mesoamerican civilizations lies right below modern day Mexico City.
(Yellow,16) Legends have been told about the history of Mexico City, but not until recently was
the great city of Tenochtitlan uncovered while construction workers were digging in Mexico City.
There are very few physical remains of the ancient city today, but the history of this great
civilization is still with us. This civilization was created by the Aztecs, who built their empire in
1325 AD. (Yellow,15). The capital of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlan, flourished rapidly as their life
revolved around their religion, which greatly helped them expand their empire. Religion played a
key role in the ancient Aztecsociety and consisted of numerous gods, ceremonies, and temples.
According to Aztec legend, the Aztec civilization came about when the god Huitzilopochtli told
his people to find a new home for their civilization. The people traveled and eventually ended up
at Lake Texcoco. This is where they see an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake, which was
the gods sign that this will be their permanent home. So, the Aztecs settled on an island inside of
Lake Texcoco, called Tenochtitlan. By listening to their god, they began one of the greatest
civilizations in Mesoamerica, which would continue to flourish until 1521 AD (yellow 16) The

Theseus And Perseus Research Paper
In Greek myth, there are many demi gods who become a hero during their journey to achieve
their goal. A hero is a person who shows courage when faced with a problem. In the three stories,
Theseus, Perseus, and Hercules, there have the best example of a hero and the worst example of a
hero. Each of them has its advantage and its weakness. In the three stories, Hercules is the best and
Perseus is the worst example of a hero.
Hercules is the best example of a hero because he didn t start the journey for other, but for not

prove Hercules is not the best example of a hero, but he always faces his mistake, his weakness
and trying to fix it. Hercules is still the best example of a hero because whatever how he was
tricked by Hera, he do everything he can to fix the problem. Perseus is the worst example of a
hero because he only does things that are good for him. When he came back from his trip; he
takes Andromeda back by forcing Andromeda s parents. This shows Perseus was greedy because
he take what he want, even if the owner didn t want to give it to him. Another example is Perseus

Those being, that our efforts do not have the money nor the amount of people to cause the change

Next, consider that this campaign was run entirely by fans who, until this week, most of you have
never even heard of. Let s face it, most of you still don t know much about any one of the people
behind this campaign. So consider that, at the time of the fundraiser, people knew even less. What
guarantee was there that we would do what we claimed we would do? I know several within the
Expanded Universe Movement at varying levels of involvement were openly asking why they
would trust a crowdfunding effort headed by random people from within the movement. After all,
crowdfunding has had a rocky history at times. While our team did its best to reassure people
that we would install a billboard in San Francisco, we were unable to give the certainty that more
well known individuals would have been capable of giving. Too, we had our hands tied on even
releasing the location of the billboard during the fundraiser because of various threats and potential
obstacles aimed at our efforts.
Finally consider that our community on the internet is not all encompassing of every Expanded
Universe fan in the world. Someone had to purchase enough books to give all those legends
stories best seller status! So considering that, even our maximum reach, in the ideal time with
everyone having money to give and everyone believing we would do as we said, it still only

Modernism Versus Postmodernism
Modernism vs. Postmodernism
Post modernism follows and shares many of the same ideas as modernism. Though, at the same
time, they differ in many ways. These distinctions can be seen in the two works of literature, Death
of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet. Death of a Salesman
represents the modernist literature. Modernism is a style of literature that came about after World
War I in Europe. It emerged in the United States in the late 1920s. Modernism was the response to
the commotion, which occurred during World War I. The narrator in the play is limited and

In the play, it is seen that money drives people to do crazy things and only leads to their downfall.
Postmodernism proves to embrace the low culture, where the idea of elite, power, and money is
not as important. Trying to make meaning becomes impossible and repressive and millions die
in desire to create a great collective. Postmodernism is more accepting in regards to chaos. The
idea of being okay in a world where there are no universal truths had become accepted. This can
be seen in the play, because no characters are represented as true. They are living in a false world.
This false world is made up of a false business with false leads and false people trying to sell
them. When Shelly steals the leads, he is not doing anything different, because the leads are non
existent, imaginary properties that he stole to steal the money of other people, so in reality he is
not stealing something of value and can relate to the rest of the characters. With this example, it is
also seen that sympathy flows around. Mamet allows reader s to like and relate to Shelley in some

2.How do you view the internal competition being fostered at Nypro? Does this contribute to or
deter innovation?
Nypro has an organizational structure that facilitated aggressive internal competition. Its successes
and apparent valuable contribution to company s results and innovation pursuits is largely
attributed to the leadership of George Lankton who imbibes the competitive spirit and eventually
trickled this down to the project teams and location managers. Nypro s internal competition
supports the company s innovation thrust for the following reasons:
1)High performance standards. Internal competitions competition brought to fore a very high
awareness and constant focus to performance statistics. These performance statistics are compared
within groups within the same plant and vis a vis those of other plants. Understandably, teams
would want to attain the best scores or performance ratings as possible within the organization
without compromising company values and objectives.
2)Because performance evaluation utilized the element of competition, groups and individuals are
motivated to contribute to overall company innovation and improvement because of expectations of
incentives (stock programs, internal company recognition, etc).
3)Customer focus and continuous improvement. Nypro s plant and CIT teams will be able to

Essay On Congenital Hypopituitarism
Discussion:
Congenital hypopituitarism is a rare condition and refers to absence or reduction in function of two
or more hormones produced by pituitary gland. When all pituitary hormones are affected the term
panhypopituitarism is used. It can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hypopituitarism is
potentially fatal in newborn period but treatable if the diagnosis is made early. Presentation of
hypopituitarism can vary in different patients. In our case patient presented with septic shock,
persistent hypoglycemia , seizures, hypothermia and jaundice
Blizzard and Albert s3 first reported Congenital Hypopituitarism in 1956, which described a
newborn with microphallus and cryptorchidism, presented with apneic and cyanotic spells in the

In our infant the only clinical clue was microphallus.
There can be many life threatening complications if not treated early. In one case study congenital
hypopituitarism presented with renal failure. Patient developed renal failure due to initial
cardiovascular compromise related to hypotension4. Sometimes microphalus is only the
presentation5. It can also be associated with midline alterations6 .
Congenital hypopituitarism should be followed regularly. It has been suggested these patients have
low IQ compared with other normal children7. This case report highlights the importance of prompt
and thorough investigation for unexplained hypoglycemia in the newborn. It also emphasises the
fact that the association of hypoglycemia and microphallus in the male neonate is presumptive
evidence of congenital hypopituitarism. To our knowledge this is the first report of association of
late onset congenital hypopituitarism with septic shock and

Surgeon Research Papers
Surgeons
Trained health care professionals that administer and perform surgeries and different medical
procedures are known as surgeons. These skilled health care professionals aid with curing injuries,
preventing and treating diseases, correcting deformities, and improving human bodily functions.
Surgeons also act to improve the aesthetic and physical appearance of the patient with surgery. They
are required to carry out these services using advanced medical technology and/or surgical
instruments. Surgeons are trained to perform both major and minor procedures. After being trained

Starting a Family with Surrogacy Adoptions in Madison, ID
In today s world, there are a number of ways a couple may start a family. Traditionally, the only
options were natural conception or adoption. However, parents may now start a family using
surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho. Surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho provide a number
of benefits to the parents. However, the process is lengthy and a number of legal issues are
involved, therefore, having competent legal counsel to assist parents through this process is
essential.
During a surrogacy adoption, another woman will carry the couple s child to term on their behalf.
Often, the couple s genetic material will be injected into the uterus of this woman; therefore, the
child she carries may not be biologically related to her. Surrogacy adoption provides parents
struggling with infertility the opportunity to bring a biological child into the world. In other cases,
donor eggs or sperm may be used.
To begin the surrogacy adoption process, the parents should consult an adoption attorney who has
experience in these unique adoptions. The attorney will be able to help the parents find a suitable
surrogate with a clean health record, and will draft the necessary contracts for the parties to sign.
With the assistance of the attorney, the parents will maintain

Nihilism According To Nietzsche
The nihilism analysis has been prevalent position over the past few years. Its anticipated purpose is
to demand questions about the norms made in a philosophical debate. These contain the notion that
one must actually suggest and preserve an idea in order to contextualize one s idea.
Tacitly, this philosophy, nihilism, seems new to most people and to philosophy as a whole.
Especially from a Western standpoint. But Nietzsche conducts an unapologetic attack on what
society has deemed as conformist morality. And at the end of the 19th Century (when he died) this
could have struck many as more progressive rather than conservative. Many during that time,
however, saw it as pure sacrilege. The entrenched on both sides have made it difficult... Show more

As a communications major, the focus should not be on the words themselves, but rather on the
more in depth meaning of those words. Zarathustra says the coined phrase and follows up with,
We have killed Him. In laymen s terms, the scientific certainty has made God archaic and
outdated. But really, there is an underlayment here. The underlying idea that it is not just God (this
supernatural icon in the sky) that is dead, but rather the idea that many of the absolutes that we
discussed previously have died. One specifically being morality. These outmoded morals cannot
direct the humans in a more intricate world/society. There are many discussions that have been
had about this phrase and what it could mean, but the most significant is that the value itself is
prospectively weak. Humans have transformed into this complicated being, and constrained by
this badness of morals. There is one woman who would argue in a Newsweek article that
Nietzsche through objective morality. Karen Armstrong of Newsweek states in the article History
of God that ...Nietzsche was right to say that human beings killed God. Even fundamentalists
(whose faith is essentially modern and innovative) bear to the fact that men and women can no
longer be religious in the same way as their ancestors. In the postmodern world, it was generally
understood that while reason was indispensable for mathematics, science, or politics. It could, not
by itself give human beings access to the divine. But the extraordinary success of scientific
rationalism in the modern world has made reason the only path to truth. We assume that God is an
objective fact, like the atom, whose existence can be proved empirically. When we find the
demonstration unconvincing, we lose faith. Our neglect of the esthetic of prayer, liturgy, and
mythology has indeed killed our sense of the divine. 1 Nietzsche labels this as a bit of

Governmental Efforts to Achieve a Drug Free Society
Obviously, government has not at any point shown laxity in her effort to achieve a drug free
society, a dream that, perhaps by the virtue of existing measures, seems unrealizable. Its efforts
include enforcements and bringing drug offenders to justice which entails incarceration, capital
punishment, and what a few. This has financial impacts on the government, for instance, cost of
custodial services, police and court cost, community supervision etc; as well as social impacts and
collateral costs, (Beckley 2009). Despite these costs, drugmarkets keep booming and patronage
keeps increasing unfortunately. It is then necessary that we review that law which criminalizes our
citizens and makes the economy spend more of its hard earned income incarcerating drug offenders.
Thanks to President Goodluck Jonathan for suggesting models for decriminalizing and regulating
some of these illicit drugs.
However, attention has been drawn to the yearnings and criticisms of notable law enforcement
agents, group of parents, constituency members who still share optimism in the present measures,
opining that any suggestion short of further criminalizing drug users (both violent non violent)
would only worsen the situation. Perhaps, sharing their view, the mere thought of imagining that a
government would approve/sell drugs to her citizens sends a chill of fear down the spine.
WHAT SHOULD ACTUALLY BE DONE? Judging from benefits that would be considered in later
paragraphs, it is advised that

The Is Not Real And The World
In an ideal world, people would get along and live in peace. Unfortunately, this idea is not real
and the world is full of different forms of hate and discrimination. People are discriminated
against based on various things like race, religion, and sex. The Transgender community faces
one of the highest amounts of discrimination. This includes things like using a public restroom,
going to a doctor s office, insurance coverage, workplace, and traveling. First, utilizing public
restrooms are a major problem for transitioning individuals. In many states, like Kentucky, there
have been numerous attempts to pass laws that would force these individuals to use the
bathroom that reflects the gender on their birth certificate, which usually states the gender
assigned at birth. This is a form of discrimination due to the fact it would single out Trans
individuals making them targets. It can be assumed no one is going to bother a cisgender
individual only those, they suspect of being transgendered. For example, a transwoman who is
just a few months into her hormones and has not received Sexual Reassignment Surgery going
into the women s restroom in a Walmart is stopped by security and asked to prove her identity
using her Identification that still says male. She will then be charged for using the wrong
restroom and forced to go to the boys bathroom where she has an increased chance of being
involved in a hate crime or sexual assault. This action is like painting a sign on a person s

Goventure Small Business Essay
For my project, I ran Coffee Roma, a coffee shop located in the business district of a large city. My
simulation ran for 60 days. Over this timeframe, I hired 7 employees and earned gross revenues of
$89,984.20. From those revenues, my net profit totaled $14,046.83. Below are the details of how I
attempted to best run my business. What adjustments did you make to try and improve
performance? The primary adjustments that I made to improve performance included proper
staffing procedures and inventory control procedures. With respect to staffing, I found that I
initially had trouble serving customers quickly enough during peak hours. Customers dissatisfied
with their queue times often left the store, resulting in lost sales.... Show more content on

I also undertook several other, less significant adjustments to try and improve performance. I
routinely invested in training for my employees when customer satisfaction levels were
dropping due to service related issues. Further, I occasionally invested in advertising and ran
sales to promote customer loyalty. I also closed my shop on the weekends, when I anticipated
that fewer potential customers would be in the area (due to the store s location in a business
district). Lastly, on the rare occasion that I was offered discounts by one of my suppliers, I
generally took advantage of that offer. Were these adjustments related to cost savings or
increasing revenue, or both? With respect to my staffing adjustments, those changes were aimed
at increasing revenue. Increasing customer satisfaction and the rate at which they were served
provided the coffee shop with increased revenues from more sales. My inventory control
procedures provided both increased revenues and cost savings. Quite simply, I ordered adequate
levels of products which were in high demand, I was able to better meet customers needs, and
my revenues increased. The cost savings I experienced as a result of my inventory control
procedures were a bit more complex. First, in establishing a routine schedule for ordering, I was
able to reap the benefits of lower shipping costs. Because I had a routine schedule, I could

Women During The Victorian Era
Women in England during the Victorian Era were forced into a mold; their ideal function being
marriage and procreation. They were expected to submit to their husbands, look pretty (but not feel
passion), and learn everything having to do with sewing and entertainment (but nothing else), all
while being expected to support their family. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was an educated womanin
Victorian England who was able to step out of this mold and exercise her talent for writing.
Browning admired and was inspired by a writer named George Sand. George Sand was the
pseudonym that French novelist and poet Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin took on to gain
acceptance and respect from her audience as a female author during her time. Browning marveled...

More importantly, Sand establishes this role herself, as Browning indicates using the words self
called . A woman deciding which gendersphere she wants to belong in for herself is a form of
speaking out against women being under the dominion of men and the society decided roles for
them. This idea is also shown in line 3 of the poem, where George Sand is illustrated as
moan[ing] defiance against these traditional roles. Browning portrays George Sand as a
courageous revolutionary figure in a den of lions (possibly and allusion to Daniel and the Lion
s Den), challenging the customs of her time by answering roar for roar (Desire 4). This visual
representation of a strong, powerful being illustrates Browning s hope that history will
remember George Sand as a pure genius sanctified from blame (Desire 12) for subverting the
natural order of gender identity. This line can also be linked to religion; sanctification is a very
heavy idea in the bible. The allusion to Christianity is a challenge to the accepted gender spheres
that exist in the world. Browning is urging that intelligence and power, no matter if in a woman or
man, should be free from the scrutiny of the world. The second poem, To George Sand: A
Recognition is equally bold. In it, Browning establishes the idea that women need not

Of Mice and Men Importance of Friendship George and Lennie
Of Mice and Men has many themes presented by Steinbeck, one of which is about friendship. The
novella shows the relationship between the protagonists, George and Lennie, and showing how they
try to achieve the American Dream by working together. This is in contrast to many of the other
characters who are alone by themselves which seems to be the norm at the time of the Great
Depression. The reader is able to look at how the need to have a companion is portrayed by
Steinbeck, especially during the harsh economic times that the story is set in.
The reliance that George and Lennie have on one another is able to emphasise on how it is only
the friendship between the two of them which allows them to survive. Lennie saying I got you to

Although most of the men have no true friends, they at least get to play cards and associate with
others. Lennie, because of the colour of his skin and his friendship with George, cannot possibly
understand Crooks plight. George chooses to kill Lennie at the novel s end, realizing that Lennie
could not stand the loneliness of being locked up in a prison or an asylum. This is also able to
highlight the true friendship which is separated at the end which also brings an end to the novella.
Thus the need for companionship, which is shown by other characters that are victimised within
society, is emphasised as other strive for what George and Lennie have.
Throughout the book Steinbeck uses many characters to emphasize a message which he wants
to get across to the reader. This is how the importance of being able to share a friend was vital
during the 1930 s as it was the time of the Depression era and everyone always needed someone
else to be with. This is what makes the true friendship between George and Lennie a key component

Functional Behavior Assessment A Behavior Intervention Plan
Introduction Under Functional Behavior Assessment a Behavior intervention plan or a BIP is a
detailed outline designed for a specific behavior that a child may be experiencing. The detailed
outlined is used to change the behavior of concern examples are off task behaviors meaning;
drawing when the child is supposed to be working on an academic task or oppositional behaviors
meaning; child often argues with adults or people in authority. There are many reasons a child
should have a BIP. One reason is to reduce problem behaviors so that a child may learn to the best
of his/her ability and another is to keep themselves and others safe in the environment that they are
in. For this behavioral assessment I have chosen scenario # 1. A third grade student in a public
elementary school has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months.
This student is demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other
settings within the school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed
aggressive and non compliant by school staff. Kyle entered the Vanderbilt Elementary School in
the third grade. He has had a great deal of managing and regulating his behavior, cooperating with
teachers directives, and maintaining appropriate behaviors at various locations and times of the
school day (lunch, recess, specials, etc.) for the past three months. Not only does his behavior
interfere with his own learning

Climate Changes And Climate Change Essay
Climate change is defined by the Intergovernmental panel on climate change ( IPCC) as a variation
in the mean state of climate persisting for an extended period of time typically decades or longer
while the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) defines climate
change as a change in the climatewhich is attributed directly or indirectly to human activities that
alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate
variability observed over comparable time periods.
Climate change can also be defined as a change of climate which is attributed directly or
indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in
addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods (UNFCC, 1992;
Obioha, 2009). It involves a change in both the mean meteorological values and variability of
these values. The expected change in mean climatic conditions is expected to be a slow process,
occurring over many decades (Obeta, 2009). Climate variability describes seasonal changes, inter
annual variability and the likely frequency of weather related intense events. Climate change and
climatic variability are frequently discussed in literature and they add to a complex bond of stress
to the economy through their impact on key sectors or on the important drivers of growth,
including agriculture and natural resources, water, health and infrastructure. Climate change is real;

Myocardial Infraction Case Study
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to determine the cause of Mr Smith s chest pain and to consider the
consequences of this diagnosis for the patient. An enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
was performed to detect the presence of cardiac protein, cTnI, in the patient s serum at two time
points: on admission to hospital and 12 hours after. Approximately 22ng/ml of cTnI was detected in
the serum taken from Mr. Smith 12 hours after hospital admission, indicating the cause of Mr.
Smith s chest pain can be reasonably diagnosed as a result of a myocardial infraction.

However, 22ng/ml was detected in the patient s serum at 12 hours after presentation to the hospital.
Thus it can be concluded that Mr Smith most likely had a myocardial infraction and the cause of

was caused by a myocardial infraction, which detected by the release of a cardiac protein.

  • 3. A Poll Conducted By The Aspca Revealed That 94% Of Americans A poll conducted by the ASPCA revealed that 94% of Americans believe that production animals, specifically those raised for food, deserve to live a comfortable life free of cruelty and neglect. Despite this belief, many factory farm animals are abused and neglected in such ways that, if witnessed by consumers, would not be accepted. Over 99% of the United State s farm animals live on factory farms that use them for means of profit, many of them violating the Animal Welfare Act and other laws put in place to protect the humane treatment of animals (ASPCA). This abuse is not limited to any specific type of farm animal. Although different animals are used for different purposes, they all share a common suffering and a need for humane care.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a long windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully. Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many eggs, many farmers will deny them proper nutrition to try and shock their bodies into laying eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This can cause extreme irritation so they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails and teeth without a sedative to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S. ... • 4. The Influence Of Du Bois On Progressive Education must have higher schools to teach teachers for the common schools (Of the Training of Black Men). Du Bois believed that these initiatives were crucial in order to catch up to whites and establish a platform for blacks. Based on the aforementioned aspirations of Du Bois, witnesses can find overlapping ideas on progressive education from the Early Republic era. However, the main additive to the scene during the Progressive Era by Du Bois was to establish political opportunity for African Americans. This would have to be accomplished by recognizing black identity through cultural and intellectual movements. Overall, these historical concepts and leaders opened up opportunities to extend on the goals of the Early Republic Era. Again, these hopes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Ancient Greek Of Ancient Greece The ancient Greeks highly valued the strength and power in a spoken word. Political, economic, cultural, and social life of the Ancient Greeks can be seen in their plays. They thus relied on words to communicating. Their desire to communicate and pass crucial information led to the creation of numerous plays across the region. The ancient Greek plays were both entertaining and educative thus reflecting on the kind of life that this person lived (Hogan 11). Their settings can suggest a lot about the circumstances and conditions under which this play was performed. The dramatic presentations were crucial to Athenians, a fact that can be seen from the numerous and well spread theatres across the city. The paper will focus on how the ancient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effects of violence were so disastrous and they were punished by god. The play is a significant description of the lifestyle in Greek at that particular time. God punishing those who do not obey him was a common belief among the ancient Greeks. The fact that he was a king implied that he had to set a good example by leading the people so that they can fear gods. The Antigone, is an example of an ancient play where a lot of elements that can be seen on stage can be used to interpret and analyze the Greek culture. Like in other Greek plays, masks were used in the Antigone to convey emotions and capture themes in the play. An example is that masks worn by different people signaled political power. The voice of the actor was greatly amplified by the shape of the masks. The audiences were able to hear the actors when they were in masks. Moreover, the types of clothing in both The Bacchae and The Antigone were a representation of the Greek culture. Stage in most ancient Greek plays was composed of four main areas. • 7. Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through the similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of God and Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good and evil, and choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal with these things with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon. The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best lamb, while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain becomes infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage. Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is? No, I don t, said Cal. . . . He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he? How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410) This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel is missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam and Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements Cal and Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of ... WWE Summersalm 2017 was more or less a mediocre pay per view with the spotlight being more on whether Brock Lesnar was leaving the WWE. It has been rumored for some time that Brock Lesnar is going to face Jon Johns in an UFC match. But WWE managed to keep the universe to the edge of their seats, with Brock retaining the title against Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns. But for the WWE Raw roster, that was the highlight. Having said that, it is clear now that WWE was setting up the competitors for a longer storyline leading to No Mercy 2017. Surprisingly, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Monster among Men has been getting better at his mic skills and in a recent match absolutely decimated The Big Show. It is highly unlikely that WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will lose the title just yet. He cannot return to UFC until he gets tested by USADA (United States Anti Doping Agency). Although it is noteworthy that he is free to return to the ring as his ban ended in July 2017. And it is rumored that he will honor his commitment to the WWE till WrestleMania 34. But the match is supposed to push Braun even more as a top contender for the WWE Universal Championship, which he might win in WrestleMania. One of the biggest matches in WWE No Mercy 2017 will be the Women s Championship. The title has lost some of its glory since Charlotte Flair was transferred to WWE Smackdown. With a lack of proper feuds and storylines, it seemed that all the interest garnered by the Women s revolution was lost. However, in recent weeks the red brand has been trying to build up a feud between Sasha Banks and the WWE Women s Champion Alexa Bliss. There is no doubt the five feet of fury has been the breakout women s star with exceptional mic and in ring skills. But with Bayley out of action and heavily getting booed in recent house shows. • 9. Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a major skill needed for a developing music performer is the ability to sight read (Paul), which is an important factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson). In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted on music literacy. In what research has been done, it is shown that music literacy and sight reading ability acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review that examines the research of variables and predictors of sight reading abilities and music literacy knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose of this review is to synthesize published articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that affect the acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general observations were used in this review. First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been observed while reading music will be reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success of sight reading will be introduced. Teaching and Acquiring Music Literacy Over the years, many ... • 10. Dance Of The Hours Analysis Dance of the Hours composed by Amilcare Ponchielli s from his opera La Gioconda takes us on a journey through the hours of the day. We will be reviewing three versions of this composition where the ballet through dance and costume, the orchestra through music, and staging or film techniques assist in representing the hours in a day (dawn, morning, twilight and night). These three previously recorded versions in review are in the forms of classical, modern, and Disney s Fantasia version of the ballet. The classical version is set on a single level stage where the orchestra in not in view. The prima ballerina features the traditional tutu with the stiff material protruding from the waist. She is assisted with a male partner (pas de deux) as she eloquently floats on her toes (pointe) and easily raises her leg while twirling on the other (Pirouette). She is truly the star of the show as the other ballerinas in similar dress, support the story line from the background by performing low splits on the stage creating the sense of dawn into morning. As the ballet continues into twilight, the supporting ballerinas are then paired with male partners assisting them with their pointes and pirouette s. The lighting of the stage does not seem to change much with a constant blue dimmed light in the background, particular members of the audience can be heard clapping while the majority of the audience does not. The communist party in Cambodia led by Pol Pot, the Kampuchea People Revolutionary Party, started underground and slowly rose to power. The KPRP, was the most prominent communist party at that time. • 13. The Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence On Society On average an American is exposed to approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of eighteen. However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns regarding whether television and video game violence has a negative effect on society by promoting violence, dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research conducted on the issue are unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other. In fact, statistics demonstrate how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly throughout time despite growing video gamepopularity. Lastly, in society people look for anything to transfer the blame, especially in regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s society. As a matter of fact, by reviewing the extensive research the conclusion was drawn stating exposure has no effect on violence. Therefore, television and video game violence does not have a negative effect on society. Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically, the studies conducted fail to asses accurate information essential in the process of proving cause and effect. Not to mention, previous studies that revealed a link between the two factors only focused on short term effects and did not take other factors into account. There are many aspects that caused this delay but one of main reason was that the supply chain of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was not properly integrated and coordinated. The virtual model of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was not up to the mark and it actually failed due to the use of composite materials, this was also the reason that the project was delayed. This was the first time that Boeing had outsourced both the manufacturing and design of the 787 to other companies where as for the other planes Boeing had only outsourced the manufacturing and had kept the design under its own control. (Cohan 2011). Boeing contracted with over 50 suppliers after their decision to outsource 60% of its design and production. This decision was to reduce the cost, this was a very good decision in terms of reducing cost but Boeing should have given a thought about the risks of outsourcing, which in the end hit them real hard. The supply chain of Boeing was designed in such a way that Boeing functions as the final assembler and the integrator. The supply chain was so extensive that parts of the 787 were being moved globally before they reached the final assembly unit. The 787 s wings were going from Japan to Washington, fuselage sections 43 from Japan to South Carolina and then to Washington. An example of one event in my placement where I have done this standard is when doing interviews in my two week community placement at the Community Rehabilitation in Armadale Hospital. For my reflection, I will be using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988). FEELINGS I am normally a very shy person so when we were told that we were to do interviews on the first day of my community placement I felt scared. I did not know how to approach people confidently let alone do an interview. I knew I could do it but I was not confident enough. I was already feeling overwhelmed because it was my first time to be placed in a hospital. EVALUATION The good thing in my experience would be that I got to have the experience of doing interviews and I actually enjoyed it. I also gained more confidence in interacting with my patients. The not so good thing would be that I have gained confidence in talking to my patients but not the staff or the people I was working with. I was still very shy in communicating with them. ANALYSIS I have learnt to do interviews during my placement. Because I took that step out of my comfort zone I believe that I have learnt a lot. I have learnt to take a step out of my shell and try. Woolf never blatantly states that any of the characters in Orlando are homosexual. Instead she uses almost mischievous undertones to hint the fact to her readers. This can be found right at the beginning of the novel, when Orlando meets Sasha. Orlando is unable to tell whether Sasha is a man or a woman, for her height and her clothes make her appear androgynous. Orlando is attracted to Sasha as an individual, entirely separate from the fact about her gender (Kao, 2). One of the main arguments of the homosexual movement is to see people as people, not as men and women. An individual can love whoever he/she wants no matter what their sex. It is not about a person s gender, it is about the person him/herself. And though our narrator later does tell us that Orlando was ready to tear his hair with vexation that the person was of his own sex..., we don t forget those mischievous undertones Woolf threw at us upon their first meeting (Woolf, 17). Right off the bat, Woolf is introducing us to a character who is embracing this idea of individualistic love, and hinting at relationships that may not be heterosexual. Woolf is fighting against the idea of being attracted to a person because of their sex, and welcoming the idea of being attracted to someone as an individual. From education to politics, Rome has made an important mark in the world by enabling its citizens to share their culture and knowledge to all their dominion. What makes the Roman civilization unique is not the preservation of their own culture but the embrace of the cultures of their colonies. Rome started from a group of villagers living along the Tiber River in Italy. For more than 200 years Rome was under the rule of Kings. Then Rome became a Republic when people began holding elections to choose their representatives in the Senate. The Senate is the most powerful body of government in Rome. The Roman civilization was primarily shaped by religion and politics. When Romans interact with other people, they influence them through worship and beliefs. A family s religious practice stayed the same, however, the state religion was significantly changed. When Greek Olympus was introduced to Italy, the Romans adopted their ideas and stories about the gods, where they elaborate more and became conspicuous when they worship. In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he s seventy he still wants to reform the world (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don t always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. The United States Army National Guard The United States Army National Guard is currently faced with the significant task of helping its troops stay alive not only on the battlefield but also at home. During their seminary time, future chaplains are trained in sermon preparations, church administration, and administering the ordinances of their faith group. However, they are rarely trained in addressing one of the most critical topics currently facing today s military personnel. Another possible place for members of the Army chaplain corps to receive training in addressing a potential suicidal person would be during their initial military instruction time at the United States Army Chaplain Center and School (USACHCS) which is located in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. (Yellow,16) Legends have been told about the history of Mexico City, but not until recently was the great city of Tenochtitlan uncovered while construction workers were digging in Mexico City. There are very few physical remains of the ancient city today, but the history of this great civilization is still with us. This civilization was created by the Aztecs, who built their empire in 1325 AD. (Yellow,15). The capital of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlan, flourished rapidly as their life revolved around their religion, which greatly helped them expand their empire. Religion played a key role in the ancient Aztecsociety and consisted of numerous gods, ceremonies, and temples. According to Aztec legend, the Aztec civilization came about when the god Huitzilopochtli told his people to find a new home for their civilization. The people traveled and eventually ended up at Lake Texcoco. This is where they see an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake, which was the gods sign that this will be their permanent home. So, the Aztecs settled on an island inside of Lake Texcoco, called Tenochtitlan. By listening to their god, they began one of the greatest civilizations in Mesoamerica, which would continue to flourish until 1521 AD (yellow 16) The Aztec people had a polytheistic religion. Modernism is a style of literature that came about after World War I in Europe. It emerged in the United States in the late 1920s. Postmodernism proves to embrace the low culture, where the idea of elite, power, and money is not as important. The idea of being okay in a world where there are no universal truths had become accepted. This can be seen in the play, because no characters are represented as true. This has financial impacts on the government, for instance, cost of custodial services, police and court cost, community supervision etc; as well as social impacts and collateral costs, (Beckley 2009). Despite these costs, drugmarkets keep booming and patronage keeps increasing unfortunately. It is then necessary that we review that law which criminalizes our citizens and makes the economy spend more of its hard earned income incarcerating drug offenders. One reason is to reduce problem behaviors so that a child may learn to the best of his/her ability and another is to keep themselves and others safe in the environment that they are in. For this behavioral assessment I have chosen scenario # 1. A third grade student in a public elementary school has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months. This student is demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other settings within the school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed aggressive and non compliant by school staff. Kyle entered the Vanderbilt Elementary School in the third grade. He has had a great deal of managing and regulating his behavior, cooperating with teachers directives, and maintaining appropriate behaviors at various locations and times of the school day (lunch, recess, specials, etc.) for the past three months. Not only does his behavior interfere with his own learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Climate Changes And Climate Change Essay Climate change is defined by the Intergovernmental panel on climate change ( IPCC) as a variation in the mean state of climate persisting for an extended period of time typically decades or longer while the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) defines climate change as a change in the climatewhich is attributed directly or indirectly to human activities that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods. Climate change can also be defined as a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods (UNFCC, 1992; Obioha, 2009). It involves a change in both the mean meteorological values and variability of these values. The expected change in mean climatic conditions is expected to be a slow process, occurring over many decades (Obeta, 2009). Climate variability describes seasonal changes, inter annual variability and the likely frequency of weather related intense events. Climate change and climatic variability are frequently discussed in literature and they add to a complex bond of stress to the economy through their impact on key sectors or on the important drivers of growth, including agriculture and natural resources, water, health and infrastructure. • 52. Myocardial Infraction Case Study Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the cause of Mr Smith s chest pain and to consider the consequences of this diagnosis for the patient. An enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect the presence of cardiac protein, cTnI, in the patient s serum at two time points: on admission to hospital and 12 hours after. Approximately 22ng/ml of cTnI was detected in the serum taken from Mr. Smith 12 hours after hospital admission, indicating the cause of Mr. Smith s chest pain can be reasonably diagnosed as a result of a myocardial infraction. Introduction: ... The cause of Mr. Smith s chest pain can be reasonably concluded to be as a result of an myocardial infraction, since serum results taken at T0 (no ... Thus it can be concluded that Mr Smith most likely had a myocardial infraction and the cause of Mr. Smith s chest pain. These results supports the hypothesis suggesting that Mr. Smith s chest pain was caused by a myocardial infraction, which detected by the release of a cardiac protein.
