In the 1960s, there was a dramatic increase in the interest in conservation in India,
driven especially by non governmental Indian and US ecologists. The Bombay
Natural History Society (BNHS) helped to set up an Indian branch of the World
Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the late 1960s. Along with the Smithsonian Institute and
other US ecologists, the BNHS also helped to organise the 1969 International
Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) conference held in New Delhi. In
the 1970s, the Indian government took over almost all responsibility for

sanctuaries). It tasked the Indian Forest Service (IFS) with the running of protected
areas and with wildlife conservation. It is also very much involved with lumber
extraction contracts and controls the use of and access to minor forest products of
importance to tribal or poor populations. The IFS is basically a combination of what

Management, the National Park Service and individual states department of natural

Team Gemstone was a great experience for me. I thoroughly enjoy my time in the
challenge/adventure course. First, we split off into our teams and completed
different team building activities. My team, team WALK, completed the lava
challenge. We were given eight wooden blocks and had to get our entire team to
the opposite side with out touching the ground or leaving blocks unattended.
Overall, we completed the challenge successfully and felt good about our
teamwork experience. Next, we moved onto the ropes tower. Here, we had the
option of climbing to the top of the tower while attached to a harness and rope. This

There was one peculiar individual, a young Hispanic male, who I observed riding
a bicycle in circles around the only building in the park for approximately ten
minutes. Nothing but circles, and then he rode off down the road. There was
another Hispanic male who was pushing a young child on a swing. After a short
time they left the park on foot. The last person I saw during the Freeze Frame,
besides the ice cream man who drove by and the trailer park resident who passed

Similar to the way in which people can choose from a wide assortment of religions,
there are also many ways of viewing religion. One of these view points is
existentialism, which states that where there is faith, not matter what in, a person
has a right to make there own chooses. Many believe that this individual freedom
then leads to risk in faith and often times doubt that cannot ever be separated from
faith. It would be like having a huge tangled ball of two different colored string,
However, you only want one of the colors, so you work relentlessly to untangle

When I look at animals held captive I think of slavery. Animals in circuses represent
the domination and oppression we have fought against for so long. They wear the

standards. Animals feel just as much, if not more emotions and humans. Circuses
