Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel
Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically
endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named
Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to
recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and
Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They
believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi
embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such
events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise
into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel
Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without
animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of
believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he
says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask
any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer.
(Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however,
unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the
aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals
story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that
Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured
if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic,
vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his
very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept.
He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to
think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was

Apollo 13 Pros And Cons
As I have mentioned so many times in my previous posts, I m so into watching and reading up on
Apollo 13 mission which goes back to 1970.
The mission was supposed to highlight the third moon landing, however, the novelty of moon
landing among the general public seemed to have already worn off, none of TV networks in the
United States broadcast the live transmission from the Apollo 13 crew members, only a handful of
family members and NASA s flight controllers actually watched it.
However, what seemed to have been a plain sailing mission was about to take a sudden turn for the
worse.
Right after the supposed to be live TV broadcast, a flight controller in the Mission Control told Jack
Swigert, a command module astronaut, to turn on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to conserve as much energy as possible, they had to turn off whatever energy consuming
equipment―the guidance system, the heater, whatever possible―reducing its energy
consumption down to only 12 ampere an hour.
In addition to this, they were faced with a carbon dioxide issue; since the lunar module was
designed for two men for a day and a half as I mentioned, every time the astronauts exhaled the
levels of carbon dioxide was inching up to a hazardous level. It was like a bomb waiting to go off.
The mission of Apollo 13 was literally fraught with danger; once a problem was solved, another
issue cropped up and both the astronauts and the flight controllers were forced to tackle those
problems one by one; putting heads together in order to safely bring the astronauts back down to
Earth.
Among many things, what struck me the most was the abortion of the moon landing mission.
The mission commander, Jim Lovell later mentioned in an interview for a TV documentary show,
I thought to myself, why didn t this explosion happen to Apollo 12? Why couldn t it wait until

The Problem Of Inadequate Funds
As you are facing the situation of inadequate funds, are you looking for a provision from where
you can get assistance in monetary terms? Are you getting confused as to what option to choose?
Without thinking much, you can go for installment loans . By going with this monetary service, the
borrower can get hold of immediate cash support for small needs. The nature of this facility is short
term. This makes the rate of interestquite high. You should just take note of your want and state
before you apply for the desired sum. According to your settlement state and financial condition,
you can obtain a sum that falls in the range of ВЈ80 to ВЈ1500 that you have to pay back in the
suitable repayment time duration of 1 to 30 day. Once the installment loans comes to you, you can
do anything and everything. The borrower can pay the household and utility bills, can get small
house repair jobs done, can send the car to the garage, can pay the kid s school and tuition fees,
can pay the medical bills, can pay installments of the credit card, can throw a party and so on. Put
into use the free of cost and no obligation online application form for immediate loans , which
would have been made available to you on the website of the money lenders. From the comfort of
your home or office, fill it with your genuine personal details. As and when the process of
application would be over, you would get an approval easily. The money would get transferred into
your bank account, within 24 hours.

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense
of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no
particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could
have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity
in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are
not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are
numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia,
Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders.
However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for
studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like
in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe
several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments.

Tea Kettle Failure
Nevertheless, their attempts to cool the reactor failed due to a malfunctioned cooling system that
had a possible blockage in the water supply piping or a valve failure. The temperature and
pressure inside the reactor began to rise uncontrollably in a runaway chemical reaction. Inside the
reactor the pressure was still, increasing reaching 400 pounds per square inch and boosting the
rupture disc. A good example of what was happening is to compare it to a tea kettle on the stove.
As steam and heats up within the kettle, it looks for an opening to relieve pressure. When the steam
finds that opening it begins to make the whistling sound which gets louder and louder as the water
continues to heatup and the steam escapes the kettle more quickly.

The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum Essay examples
The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum
My memories of Latin in high school are less than fond. I remember slouching in my chair,
staring blankly at my desk as I tried to remember the form of the word agricola (farmer) in the
ablative plural. Much of the class consisted of mundane activities like this. We translated endless
Bible passages from Latin, translated what seemed like the entire body of Greek mythological
literature, and read hundreds of lines from The Aneid, The Odyssey, and The Iliad. I signed up for
Latin because I was considering going into medicine, and I had heard that doctors need to know
Latin. As high school progressed, though, a medical career seemed less and less likely so it
appeared I had no real use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until the Reformation, church services were conducted using only Latin. One of the key principles
of the Protestant movement was that the entire Christian message, Scripture included, should be
made accessible to the common folk in their own tongue (Hammond 243 4). The Catholic Church
also began to use the vernacular for its homilies during the Counter Reformation for similar reasons
(Smith 32).
The switch from Latin to the common tongues did not occur overnight, though. In fact, the Catholic
Church mandated that Mass be spoken only in Latin until the bishops of the second Vatican
Council voted to make the switch in 1962 (Waquet 47). For hundreds of years it remained a key
part of the education from middle school to college of those students that were fortunate enough to
get one. Latin was taught so that students could read ancient religious, philosophical, and dramatic
texts in their original language (Smith 27). By reading these texts in their original tongue, students
would gain the key to the superior wisdom of the Ancient World and to the piety of the Christian
Fathers (Smith 27 8). When these privileged students entered college before the decline of Latin,
they entered a deeply Latin world. Upon entering the building, they would see Collegium inscribed
above the door, their classrooms would be labeled sexta, quinta, quarta, and the teacher would
lecture in Latin. In fact, students were required to converse only in Latin during free

Infatuation In Hurstwood s Sister Carrie
In the opening of Sister Carrie, Carrie is boarding a train from her small town, Columbia City, to
Chicago. Sister Carrie is set in the late Nineteenth century, and Carrie is moving to Chicago
following the economic boom that succeed the Civil War after Reconstruction. Chicago was one of
the largest American cities at that point, and Carriejoined the massive queue of wage earners
searching for factory work in large cities. While she is searching for work there are constant
references to Carrie s infatuation with material items. A huge theme in Sister Carrieis the obsession
with material items. In the beginning of the story, when Carrie is earning just four and a half

This appears to be the beginning of Carrie s ambition to become wealthy while not relying

individual or group of people. She originally stays with her sister in Chicago, but after she
decides that her low wage job and experiences with her sister are not enough to satisfy her, she
runs off to be Drouet s mistress. She lives comfortably with Drouet for awhile, however when
she is introduced to George Hurstwood, she begins to believe that the life she is currently living
is very modest and bland. She soon partakes in a love affair with Hurstwood, unaware that he is a
married man. When Drouet refuses to endulge Carrie s expenditures he leaves her and allows her
to keep the apartment, again showing that Carrie has little devotion to people. Although she did
not leave Drouet, her actions and lack of desire to keep their relationship going exacerbates the
couples many problems and leads to their eventual demise. After a brief stint in Montreal the
newly married couple moves to New York. In New York Carrie realizes that Hurstwood is running

The View of Womanhood in La Belle Dame Sans Merci, Mariana and The Eve of Saint Agne
Works Cited Missing
These three poems show a wide range of visions of woman hood. La Belle Dame Sans Merci
shows a temptress, Mariana portrays woman as awaiting man and The Eve of Saint Agnes depicts
woman as nubile. So here we are shown the two extremes of womankind, and then Madeline in The
Eve of Saint Agnes as the almost perfect medium.
La Belle Dame sans Merci leads men on, she is a temptress. She is flirtatious, her hair was long

Her rich attire creeps rustling to her knees; / Half hidden, like a mermaid… / …and sees
/ In fancy, fair St. Agnes in her bed . This shows how she is ready for marriage and to lose her
virginity, but her innocence is shown as she dares not look behind, or all the charm is fled .
Unlike la Belle Dame she does not the man to loiter . Madeline does have this temptress value,
which is shown as Porphyro accuses her of being a Belle Dame Sans Mercy when she will not
wake. But the contrast is that Madeline does not know this and does this unintentionally.
Keats describes la Belle Dame Sans Merci with an admiration. It is almost as if he is the man in
the poem. It seems this way because it is a narrative poem. The poem tells a story, in a
conversational way. Ah what can ail thee the first line asks. Then Keats proceeds to tell the story.
Keats shows man as weak in this poem, love as a disability. We are shown how this man is
overcome by emotion as he is left palely loitering in case la Belle Dame returns. In Keats s extract
from The Eve of Saint Agnes he describes her as a figure of beauty. This time it is portrayed as
genuine and deep as Madeline is not aware of an audience. The story of The Eve of Saint Agnes is
a charming one as we see love, as it should be; requited and true. Tennyson depicts Mariana as a

the time he got his first convertible and drove to his sister s house to pick up his niece and
nephew. After seeing his sister explain to the kids how careful they needed to be in his car, and
his nephew getting sick and throwing up in the backseat, Randy starts to pour a can of soda in
the car. He did not care much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his
nephew did not feel embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to
the audience was that life is too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it
often seems that people are focusing more on their possessions than one another or experiences.
But these possessions steal time, energy, and attention that can be used on ore valuable and
meaningful in life. Materialistic things are temporary, they constantly perish and fade. But
memories and experiences are forever. The joy, fulfillment and happiness that many look for in
these possessions can be found in invisible things such as love, peace, relationships and hope. The
heart and the soul is what makes someone valuable. The people who live their lives pursuing
materialistic possessions are never happy. They are always desiring newer or bigger things
because their deepest heart desires are not satisfied through these material possessions. Materialism
is a distraction. People are spending so much time trying to have the perfect car, perfect house, and
perfect appearance and less time focusing on the importance of family, friendships, and one another.

Descriptive Essay About Volleyball
The Choice
I was the start of a new day, the sun was shining, and autumn had decided take over for summer. I
just started a new sport, and my first practice was today. My gaze was fixed on the window
watching the cars drive by, and then my dad popped the question. The decision that I made about
this question has shaped and changed my life forever.
I had woken up in feeling very gusto that day all because my first volleyball practice was
supposed to start today. It was a nice cool fall morning with red, orange, and golden leaves
scattered all over the ground, in the trees, and filling the air. I walked outside and felt the cool,

started to wonder what they could possibly be talking about that was so important, so I was still
and listened as closely as possible. Then I heard it the only word that I didn t want to hear.
Sports. I started to become anxious and fearful as I started to wonder what they wanted to do
with sports, and why they were talking specifically about me. My sister did plenty of sports too.
My dad hung up the phone and I finally decided that it was time to open up my eyes. When I did
open them up my dad glanced over at me and said, Anna we need to talk. I knew that at that
moment something wrong and terrible was about to happen. All I said was, Okay ,and I braced
myself for what was about to happen. He fixed his eyes on the road again, and then looked back
at me with a sorrowful look on his face that made his face look contorted, this is how I knew that
I wasn t going to like what he was going to say at all. He opened his mouth once, but nothing came

How Junk Food Can End Obesity
In David Freedman s article, How Junk Food Can End Obesity (2013), he begins by discussing
his endeavors to search for wholesome food. He continues to come across food items that claim
to be healthy and void of processed junk, but all he finds are items high in calories or the expense
is too much for an average American. He argues that wholesome foods are actually just as bad, if
not even worse, than junk foodand that the Big Food industry has the technology available to make
food healthier, but still retain its appeal. Freedman mentions continuously throughout his article that
Americans who are most at risk of becoming obese are those who cannot afford healthy foods,
completely defeating the purpose of the wholefoods movement. He... Show more content on

The solution, in his view, is to replace Big Food s engineered, edible evil through public
education and regulation with fresh, unprocessed, local, seasonal, real food. (Freedman). Pollan
has increased spite for nutritionism, which is the idea behind packing healthier ingredients into
processed foods which is what Freedman is advocating for. Pollan s view is much the same as
some scientists, food activists, nutritionists, and celebrity chefs. He has had such an influence
that the Silicon Valley caters to the wholefoods movement and the progression to familiarizing
the masses with simpler eating habits (Freedman). However, being an area full of technological
endeavors, the Silicon Valley sees technology as the culprit as well. The New York Times
Magazine s food writer, Mark Bittman also shares views with Pollan. In fact, Bittman has even
written a cookbook on how to eat better. While most are more wholesome there are still few
recipes that are high in fat. One of his recipes consists of corn being sautГ©ed in bacon fat and then
topped with bacon (Freedman).
Freedman argues that technology would help revolutionize the American diet. He supports this with
his experiences to different restaurants and how good the food was, how much it cost him, and
then whether or not the food itself is actually good for the body. His experiences allows the reader
to connect with Freedman, by showing that he also struggles with the never ending fight to eat

Persuasive Essay On Dolphins
The Interesting Dolphin
Many people know those cute, funny, intelligent animals that are known as dolphins, right?
There are so many interesting things about them. Dolphins have been around for about 15 million
years now. They re extremely intelligent, probably even more intelligent than us humans. Dolphins
are becoming endangered because of humans and many don t know that. They are known as the
oceans most kind animals.Dolphins have originated millions of years ago,are extremely
endangered, and are becoming endangered. The most important thing to know about dolphins would
probably be how they originated because without that those cute aquatic mammals wouldn t even
exist. Dolphins have been around a lot longer than humans. They originated about 50 million years
ago. The most common dolphin, being the bottlenose dolphin, has been around for 15 million
years. Surprisingly, dolphins originated from members of the cetaceans group. Cetaceans used to
be land mammals but evolved into being aquatic mammals. In From Land to Water it stated, The
transition from land to water is documented by a series of intermediate fossils from India and
Pakistan. This research helps prove how they used to be land mammals but evolved to live in the
ocean. Dolphins are one out of many aquatic mammals who need oxygen, but they need water in
order to live. Believe it or not, dolphins are somewhat related to hippos, camels, deer, cattle, and
giraffes. In From Land to Water, Many features that are

Battles in the Pacific In World War II, there were numerous Battles in the Pacific ocean. Some were
scary and
some were bloody and some were quiet and some were loud, but most of all some were deadly,
life threatening. The troops that had to go out and fight the battles were brave. Especially
to go fight on water in boats and submarines and in the air with planes. You would never know

The Battle of Iwo Jima
One of the most bloodiest battles in World War II is Iwo Jima (Chenoweth 234). It began
at 2:00 on February 19,1945 in the Pacific ocean on the island of Iwo Jima, 650 miles from

worst because so many casualties had happened so many loved ones were lost (Chenoweth 237).
The bodies were all over the place. 30,000 U.S. marines landed on the shore the first day. The
first soldiers were attacked by the Japanese (World war II). There were 22,000 soldiers under

Bill C-51 Effects
What is terrorism? That is the question you have to ask yourself to find out what Bill C 51
effects. Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in hopes of accomplishing political and
/or individual advantage. Terrorism can involve abuse of hostage videos to show influence and
treating others as lesser beings. So know we ve discussed lets discuss Bill C 51. Bill C 51 states
that police can now arrest without authorization, now what does that inspire, fear. Now they can
share intelligence with the government want does that involve, political advantage. CSIS can use
intelligence to take advantage of terrorists history. You see how the government stops terrorists is
the same method terrorists use to inspire terror. How exactly does the government control
terrorists? Firstly, they now have permission to declare an unjustified arrest on suspected targets.
Now the key word here is suspected, this can mean relation, interaction with offenders, childhood
relationships, birthplace, previous record of law offence, and religion. I mean come on, though
many Canadian citizens are safe from this bill, other innocent people can be arrested for these
charges, and can you really defend a bill that defies up to seven of the eleven clauses of the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Is this really what Canada believes in?

reasons people support this bill is mainly surrounded by their fear of being abducted by terrorists

Advantages And Disadvantages Of PFC Transverter
The objective of the control circuit for PFC converter are a near unity power factor should flow and
a steady average voltage should maintain at the output. Literature is abounded with novel PFC
control methods that address these objectives. These control methods can segmented into a few
categories in terms of their implementation approach and structures. Such as the multi loop
multiplier approach, the cycle by cycle integration approach, the single loop control approach and
the sliding mode controlapproach. Under these categories, some common PFC converter control
methods are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages of those methods [].
2.1.1.1Single loop approach
Single loop control methods allowed a single voltage control loop to regulate the output voltage.
The input current shaping is accomplished in an open loop manner, the duty cycle patterns are
predefined by considering in ideal PFC operation. One example in this control method is the duty
phase control (DPC) proposed by Chen [42]. In this method, a phase shift is willingly introduced to
the stored duty cycle patterns. The output voltage is regulated by adjusting this phase shift by using
the output of the voltage error amplifier, which is named the duty phase . This approach simplified
the control structure and eliminated the current loop, without the need to ... Show more content on

In this control method, the error voltage is integrated twice and to generate the reference signal for
current tracking, this signal referred to as the nonlinear carrier signal. In the current shaping,
instead of the sensed switch current for comparison, the sensed current is integrated to obtain an
average value before being compared with the nonlinear carrier signal. This approach reduces the
input current distortion and the noise immunity. Its physical realization is more complicated than

Anatomy And Physiology Of The Heart
ALTERED HEMODYNAMICS Hemodynamics is the study of blood flow and circulation
throughout the body. A muscle known as the heart is a major organ that circulates blood through
the human body by veins and arteries known as the circulatory system. During the pumping action
it carries deoxygenated blood through the veins to the lungs where oxygenation takes place and is
then circulated through the arteries back to the heart.
Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart
The heart is located in the thoracic cavity of the chest in the middle of the lungs and beneath the
sternum. At the base, or top of the heart, is the aorta, pulmonary arteries, and superior vena cava.
It forms a tip called the apex or the bottom and rests on top of the diaphragm and points to the left
side of the body. The area around the heart is called the pericardia cavity. It is made up of a fluid
filled area known as the pericardium, this protects the muscle from friction that could be obtained
from the surrounding organs when it contracts. The heart wall has three layers; the epicardium,
myocardium, and endocardium. The epicardium is the outer most layer known as the visceral layer
of the pericardium. Beneath the epicardium is the myocardium. The myocardium is the thick
muscular layer that contains cardiac muscle tissue, which causes the heart to pump. The inside of
the heart is the endocardium. It is an endothelium layer that causes the inside of the heart to be
smooth to prevent blood from sticking to the walls of

The Criticism Of Totalitarianism
Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and
strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever it can be done. A distinctive
feature of totalitarian governments is an elaborate ideology, a set of ideas that gives meaning and
direction to the society .
The concept was first developed in the 1920s by the Weimar German jurist, and later Nazi
academic, Carl Schmitt, and Italian fascists. Schmitt used the term, Totalstaat, in his influential
work on the legal basis of an all powerful state, The Concept of the Political (1927). The concept
became prominent in Western political discourse as a concept that highlights similarities between
Fascist states and the Soviet Union. The notion of totalitarianism as a total political power by the
state was formulated in 1923 by Giovanni Amendola, who described Italian Fascism as a system
fundamentally different from conventional dictatorships. The term was later assigned a positive
meaning in the writings of Giovanni Gentile, Italy s most prominent philosopher and leading
theorist of fascism. He used the term totalitario to refer to the structure and goals of the new state,
which were to give the total representation of the nation and total guidance of national goals. He
described totalitarianism as a society in which the ideology of the state had influence, if not power,
over most of its citizens. According to Benito Mussolini, this system politicized everything

The correction system had been through various phases of transformation, and the government had

I believe that rehabilitation, not imprisonment, is the key to reduce the crime rate. Rehabilitation
is the initiative of healing criminal of his or her criminal inclinations. It tries to change their
outlook, their habits, and possibly even personality, to forgo their tendencies to commit crimes in
the future. The country has a responsibility to help those who fall short of the standards of
behaviour government has set, is the rehabilitative ideal. The offenders are usually folks with the
greatest social disadvantages that have forced them to a life of crime in the first place. If the
policies ignore these realities, it will foster hardships that will descend disproportionately and
primarily on the already disadvantaged, and intensify the anger that many prisoners find difficult
to restrain upon their release back into such a society, which will lead to re offend by these
prisoners. The fundamental idea is to prevent a person from committing the crime again by
removing the needs to offend. This methodology is remarkably different from the idea of
deterrence , which is the idea of making criminal frightened to offend, though he may yet wish to,
and the idea of incapacitation , which isolates the criminal and eradicating his physical power to
offend, though he may still desires to.
Prison punishments are not always the answer. A prisoner s life can be simply depicted and

Animals And Slavery In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Most people never really think about the fact that animals are actually slaves. People are not the
only ones who are known for being slaves. Animals are controlled and manipulated into doing
things against their will the same way slaves were while under the rule of the American colonists
before, during, and after the American Revolution. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell,
the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves and
controlled by a tyrant leader, like those of the American Revolution. The animals were treated like
the slaves of the American Revolution. Before the animals in the book revolted, they believed that
the life of an animal was normal. They did not understand that what was happening to them was a
form of slavery. The slaves knew that their lives were only going to amount of slavery, because
they understood that they were born into it and nothing was going to get them out of it except
for death. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth (Orwell 5). The
animals, like the slaves, knew not to expect anything different than slavery because they knew
they were born into it. Being slaves, they knew that they would only receive the bare minimum.
African American slaves were only given enough food so they could still work. We are born, we
are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies (Orwell 5). The animals, like the
slaves, were only given enough to make sure they could

Anna Haywood s The Enormous Admiration And Approval Of...
In spite of the enormous admiration and approval of Eliza Haywood s novellas, which at the
time of their exact publication were genuine sale rivals to the works of writers such as pope and
Swift, traditional scholarship has attached little to no importance to the name of Haywood. Such
scholarship, however, is terribly injudicious and ill advised. As one of the creators of popular
literature, especially the influencial and well circulated novel, Haywood is one of the key figures
in Eighteenth Century literature whose name and influence has remained with us still to this day.
Haywood s work has always been revolutionary in theme as they all have a focal point largely
resting upon the role of the female within a patriarchal society, as well as dipping in to themes of
the possibilities of female empowerment and even the taboo matters of female promiscuity and
sexual freedom. In Fantommina, Haywood s revolutionary stand points on society come into
relation with the concept of female identity in a patriarchal civilization. In this troubling novella we
are presented and forced to notice the very notion that female identity is completely displaced by
patriarchy, which forces women into constricting and ultimately ineffective and defenseless roles.

centralized plot of the piece circles arounf the masquerade as the protagonistconstructs her herself

The Last Rung Of The Latter Short Story
In The Last Rung of the Latter by Stephen King, Larry, the narrator receives a letter from his
younger sister, Kitty, that she wrote before she committed suicide. Larry retells a story from
their childhood in which he saved Kitty s life after she climbed a broken latter while they were
playing a game. In this short story Larry is forced to come to terms with his sister s death and
deal with the guilt of not being able to save her this time. The change of setting, the theme of
guilt, and the use of symbolism all greatly add to the meaning of this short story. The contrast in
setting in The Last Rung Of The Latter is used to show a change in feeling and mood as the
characters grow older. Larry describes the morning of the accident fondly, remembering how
good the barn felt that day. When he begins talking about the day in the barn, Larry says, On a
day like that, the only really nice place to be was the barn. It was warm, filled with a pleasant
mixed aroma of hay and fur and dung, and with the mysterious clucking, cooing sounds of the
barn swallows high up in the third loft. (King 2). This quote indicates that Larry thought of the
barn as a homey and warm place. He does not dislike the setting of his childhood home, despite the
fact that is sister almost died on his terms while they were there. On the contrary, when Larry
speaks about where he lives in the present he seems to resent the constant moving and changing of
his life. Larry even says that, People move around

Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers
Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, and Polymers An attraction between atoms that allows chemical
substances to form is commonly referred to as a chemical bond. Two of the most common types
of chemical bonds are ionic bonds and covalent bonds. Both ionic and covalent bonds can be
mixed together in order to form mixtures and compounds. While the two types of chemical bonds
have several similarities, they are also vastly different. Ionic and covalent bonds are formed when
two or more elements bond together. There are 117 elements known to date. An element is defined
as a substance that is made up of a single atom. While 94 of these elements are naturally occurring,
22 of these elements are artificial. A complete list of elements can be found on the periodic table of
the elements, arranged by atomic number and by chemical property. When substances are formed
through ionic or covalent bonding, they can be combined with other substances to form mixtures or
compounds. A compound is a pure substance that is made up of two or more substances. A
compound is a homogenous mixture that requires all elements comprising the mixture to be present
in fixed proportions. When elements are combined to make a compound, they do not retain their
individual properties. Furthermore, in order to separate a compound into its individual elemental
components, a large amount of energy must be used. Compounds form naturally and have
elemental stability; stability depends on the number of electrons that

outcome: The panel initially divides evenly. After a stormy two hour meeting with Alastair

Frank was very ethical in his work and allowed his fellow officers to have the arrest. It is very
unethical for police officers to receive cash bribes and sell drugs in order to make extra money.
Selling drugs and receiving bribes is certainly against the law and any officer who engages in such
activity is not ethical. Frank Serpico went to his captain and the New York mayor about this
corruption, but they did not do anything about it. It was also very unethical of Serpico s partners
to abandon him when he needed help and then got shot. These issues were finally resolved when
Frank Serpico reported such activities to the press and it made front page in New York Times. The
mayor, John Lindsay, was then forced to appoint the Knapp Commission to investigate the truth.
Serpico testified against fellow police officers, breaking the blue code of silence , which is an

Some important points that Belonwu makes are:
One on one, people understand better when talked to directly or face to face. Maintaining eye

accomplished.
Listen to you team members, communications is a two way path, make sure to not just keep

Another instance is we made sure to reduce our perceptions and to be empathetic towards how
others see a situation. This made communication really effective as we moved passed trying explain
things we didn t need to and had more time to discuss the important issues and go straight to the
point.
As a team, we didn t really face unsuccessful communication, this was due to us just listening to
each other during our meetings, and we listened politely and made sure we weren t being ignored.
This not only helped us have effective communication as a team, but also got closer as a team.
While having meetings as a group we displayed confidence and seriousness, when talking about our

Takis Essay
Takis, the perfect amount of spicy, crunchy, and flakiness. According to Takis/ Detailed
Statistics, more than 4,457 people become fans of Takis in one month. One article written by
Tracie Lee from Seriousseats.com said Holy sweet Jesus, it was everything I wanted out of a
snack. It has the strong corn flavor that comes through on Fritos, but it s much more complex
and satisfying with the addiction of sour lime and a big kick of spicy chile at the end. The very
first time I tried Takis, I fell in love. I immediately wanted to finish the rest of the bag. I then
continued to eat a bag every other day even though I knew it wasn t healthy. My friends and i
used to argue about which chips were the best, either Hot Cheetos or Takis. Honestly Takis are
some of the best chips I have ever had, just the way the chile rubs off as soon as you take a bite
out of them or how you can hear the crunch while you chew, or even the knock of lime that appears
after the first bite. Takis have almost everything someone could possibly want in a chip. They just
have a certain tasteand texture that makes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many teachers started to use the Mini Takis instead of candy as rewards when it comes to getting
answers correct. One of the main reasons Takis tend to be addicting is because they have sort of a
sour taste to them, and somehow eating something sour causes a person to salivate more which
also causes them to get hungrier. The Takis owner, Barcel decided to take over Twinkies spot in
corner stores, and grocery stores after they went bankrupt. Even with the media starting rumors
about Takis, saying that they are giving people ulcers, they have been incredibly successful. Takis
made it to the US in 2009 by registering in the US trademark system, but that was not the first time
they had been eaten. They started selling in Mexico in 2007, two years prior to making it to the

Ruddick Explores Human Psychology In Suspects Of Mrs....
7. Ruddick explores human psychology in the suspects of the murder. For instance, Mrs. Cox
was accused of the crime since she was a few days away from being dismissed by Mr. Bravo.
People believed that Mrs. Cox had a motive because she was putting her children through school,
and she was paying a mortgage on a house that she rented out. Mrs. Cox had gotten an advance on
her salary to pay off some debts and now she owed money to the Bravo family. Greed could be a
factor in accusing Mrs. Cox of murderbut Ruddick disproves that this was a reason for Charles s
murder. Ruddick discovered that Mrs. Cox came from a wealthy family that had roots in Jamaica.
The Cox family owned three large plantations that exported different tropical crops. A few

Non Politician Oxymoron
The Non Politician Oxymoron of American Political Lexicon
One of the most confusing phenomenon to anyone unfamiliar with the American political
landscape is about the non politician or so called outsider who is seeking a political office on the
strength of his inexperience or unfamiliarity with the political process. The public likes the idea of
someone who is an outsider to politics, who will come in and straighten out all the mess the career
politicians have made. Most people running for an office for the first time (whether new to politics
or not) know this and are astute enough to paint themselves as new , fresh , outsider etc.
But how do you seek an office that you know little or nothing about? In general, you can hardly ...

The Republican base wants new blood, outsiders, to represent them in the upcoming election
primarily because they feel they ve been lied to. While that may be true, it does not exonerate them
from their complicit credulity. It is indeed ironic that while they are reacting out of a sense of
betrayal, they inadvertently fall prey again to individuals who are representing themselves in less
than honest ways. I believe most politicians are a reflection of their base. So if the Republican base
wants better representation from politicians who will not lie to them, they should first learn to
change with the times and adjust their reality and expectations to the current political landscape.
That way, when someone promises them heaven and earth, or things that are unrealistic to achieve,
they will know they are

Allegory In The Pardoners Tale
Allegory can be defined as an extended metaphor, a story that seems ordinary but holds deeper
meanings within. Allegory can be found in many pieces of literature, such as the Canterbury
tales, in particularly two tales: the wife of bath and the pardoner s tale. Both tales are written by
Geoffrey Chaucer who uses allegory to convey a message. Chaucer indirectly discusses vices he
apparently despises, sins committed by humans that he opposes. They can also be injustices,
oppressions to certain groups of people at his time. Chaucer uses allegory in the wife of bath to
mock women and to show greed s consequences in the pardoners tale. The wife of bath tells the
story of a knight who in quest to answer the question what do women want most? . The... Show

When the three friends set out to avenge their friend they find gold, and it blinds them. It makes
them forget about their friend and the avenging they only care for the wealth and power this
gold can give them. Not only does the gold set them off track, it causes their death, in fact, greed
is what causes their death. Although the gold was a lot and it was plenty enough for each when
they divide it, their greed forced them to want more. Their desire for wealth forced to want to
kill each other. In the end they all end up dead, victims of their greed. Chaucer shows the reader
that mans greed and desire for power and wealth will have disastrous consequences, in this case
death. The irony in the pardoners tale is that the men set out to find Death and they indeed find it,
but have they found Death, the person. Although he is of unclear identity, the old man can be
interpreted as Death, or his form on earth. A lot of mystery and unanswered questions concern the
old man, however, from the text the reader can hint that he is some form of Death. The old man is
the one who directed the men right to the gold and most likely knew what the men s fait was. In
general, the message Chaucer is trying to convey through his story is that greed is a sin, and it
causes horrible

How The Attack On Pearl Harbor Changed History
How the Attack on Pearl Harbor Changed History Imagine, sleeping in your bunk on the USS
Arizona just after 8:00 am, when suddenly the ship begins to call general quarters. This is what it
was like for the crew of the USS Arizona, the USS California, and the USS Missouri. The attack on
Pearl Harbor was underway by just before 8:00 am on December 7th 1941. For my research paper,
I will talk about the attack on Pearl Harborand how it changed the course of history. I will discuss
the general information on the attack on Pearl Harbor, the course of attack that the Japanese
made, the power of air forces, the defense of Pearl Harbor, and how the attack changed the
course of history. First I will give a little general history of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack
on Pearl Harbor, a day that shall live in infamy, happened on the 7th of December, 1941. The
Japanese naval forces launched an attack on the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor, the attack
including mini submarines and aircraft. In an effort to destroy dozens of ships in the U.S. Navy,
the Japanese aircraft dropped hundreds of bombs, along with torpedoes (Perlman, 2011). The
battle only spanned 90 minutes, but it would be one of the worst moments in American history
with over 3,700 casualties. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. President, Franklin
Roosevelt, asked Congress for a declaration of war on the nation of Japan. This request was passed
with minimal opposition, this being a member of congress

Why my Favorite Sport is Soccer
What is sport? Sport in as athletic activity requiring skills or prowess and often of a competitive
nature. My favorite sport is soccer. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and
dependencies, making it the world s most popular sport. The game is played between two teams
of eleven players with a spherical ball on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object
of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing goal. In this essay i am going to write
about the history of soccer, my favorite soccer club and my favorite soccer player who is my
role model. The old form of soccer used to allow many ill practices like kicking, punching, biting
and gouging. The main aim was to carry the ball to a target spot. People grew so fond of the
game that they would throng the field all day long. Sometimes the competition grew fierce and
masses got so wild that there were frequent incidents of violence during the game. In 1815, a
major development took place that made soccer popular in Universities, Colleges and Schools.
The popular English School and Eton College came forth with a set of rules, known as the
Cambridge Rules. Football was segregated into two groups; some colleges and schools opted for
Rugby rules that allowed tripping, shin kicking and also carrying the ball. These rules were
exclusively prohibited as per the Cambridge rules. In October 1863, eleven representatives from
London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to
control the matches amongst themselves. The outcome of this meeting was the formation of the
Football Association. In December 1863, the Rugby Football and Association football finally split
as the supporters of the Rugby School rules walked out. Firmly establishing the foundation of
soccer in 1869, the Football Association strictly banned any kind of handling of the ball. When and
where exactly did soccer start is a question that has no precise answer to it. Soccer also known as
football was invented and most influenced by England but most of the early innovation came from
scotland. It was until 1872 when england played scotland at the very first international game when
the first revolution happened. In England

Value Chain Approach And Actor Network Theory
Why use the Value Chain Approach and Actor Network Theory (ANT)
Value chains traditionally are those farmers can easily access. To comprehend complexities
involved in value chain a qualitative approach termed value chain analysis approach was used. The
approach is descriptive and allows linkage analysis of the farmer with different actors that are part
of the Ziziphus mauritiana chain. Inter mediators or the middlemen buy Ziziphus mauritiana from
rural peasants in Muzarabani. The middlemen also sale Ziziphus mauritiana to each other.
However, most of the Ziziphus mauritiana end up in the hands of bigger traders from markets like
Mbare Musika of Harare in Zimbabwe. The value chain analysis approach used has an array of
advantages. Different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What about Power relation relations issue in Actor Network Theory?
Power relation are criticised to ANT approach. However in contrast ANT observed power being
in action. The linkages and Network power are recognised through ideas for undertaking
perceptions actions and opinions. Actors have voices and act as agencies. ANT emphasises use on
interactive power than the physical power. The concept of ANT is aligned to each network and
provided a radical approach to the discourse and other non human actors are treated as actors.
Actor Network Theory is used as a methodology for the study of the of the Ziziphus mauritiana
value chain. The value chain is viewed as an assemblage of networks. Being a theory and a
methodological approach ANT endeavours to develop analysis tools on focal actor, thats try to
control other actors. ANT can be used to shape the theoretical framework, hence enhancing the

depression she was in. She was also the first monarch to live in the Buckingham Palace. She is

Consider Rent To Own When You Have Bad Credit Essay
Consider Rent To Own When You Have Bad Credit But Need A Car
If you have bad credit, it puts you in a tough spot when you need to buy a new car. You may need
a car to get back and forth to work. It s certainly more convenient to have your own car for
grocery shopping and running errands. However, when your credit is bad, you ll have difficulty
getting a loan. An alternative that might work for you is to buy a car under a rent to own program.
Here s what you need to know.
Why Bad Credit Loans Are Dangerous
It s difficult to get a loan at all when you have bad credit, but if you can get one, then you ll
probably have to take out a subprime loan. These are loans from companies that specialize in
lending money to people with bad credit. Because of the risk they take, they charge a high interest
on your loan. This makes your monthly payments higher. To find a car in your monthly payment
range, you may need to settle for a car you don t like. If you buy a new car with a subprime loan,
you may end up with monthly payments you struggle to make on time. This can wreck your credit
and lead to financial problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, you ll probably need proof of income along with identification and references, but your
credit history doesn t matter. The process is very similar to renting a vehicle like you do when
you go on vacation. The difference is the money you pay each week applies to the cost of buying
the car. You can keep renting it until you pay it off, but if you run into financial problems, you can
return the car without damaging your credit.

Events related to medications are the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart

where error is mostly the highest in hospitals. Medication errors can include the following: wrong
dosage, wrong route, wrong frequency (of rate for IV), wrong medication wrong choice of
medication for condition, wrong time, wrong administration technique, wrong patient missed dose,
known drug interaction, known allergy to drug, wrong reason (Caroll Nakuruma,2011). Ideally, the

Daniel Orozco Orientation Summary
The workplace serves as an environment that dehumanizes the employees that make up its
community and expels anyone who opposes its practices. This statement proposes that the
workplace in Daniel Orozco s Orientation is very black and white and hosts very few shades of
grey. The employees are trained to follow a specific set of rules and regulations that will ultimately
make the workplace an almost robotic and emotionless environment. Although a community is
present in the workplace, the personal lives of the employees must not be seen; for fear that it may
interfere with the job at hand that must be done at the end of the monotonous eight hour work day.

For instance, If you make an emergency phone call without asking, you may be let go. (1061).
Orozco shows how even the most minor offense could lead to your impending unemployment.
This is another way of showing how the typical workplace is so micromanaged that it even
further dehumanizes the employees because they can be replaced easily. Gwendolyn Stich is a
perfect example of how the typical workplace environment only looks upon the merit of her
work but does not look at her as a human being. The narrator explains that the employees have
found Gwendolyn crying in the stairwell of the office and even goes as far as saying, She does
not let any of this interfere with her work. If it interfered with her work, she might have to be let
go. (1064). The language used by the narrator, especially when saying that the employees would
be let go seems very nonchalant and generalized, insinuating that firing employees is just another
practice of the typical work day. Normalizing an act like firing an employee, shows that the
authority in the workplace does not necessarily care about the well being of the employees but only
of the work they

Israel s Involvement In The 1967 June War
The nature of Israel s involvement in the 1967 June War can be aptly portrayed as both a prime
example of pre emptive self defence of the nation and as a rapacious campaign of self interested
opportunism. A central tenet of the Israeli position that Arab encroachment posed a danger to the
continued existence of Israelis that the short and long term consequences of Israel not acting
decisively were disastrous and had to be avoided. The partisan essence of the Six Day Waris
exemplified through the Arab narrative s empathetic denial that Israel acted defensively and their
testimony that the actual aggressor in this conflict was Israel. Primary source documents,
particularly declassified intelligence reports, provide a unique prism through which one can
deconstruct some of the underlying principles that steer Israel s justifications of war against its
foes. Likewise, the rejection of elements of Israel s narrative by esteemed Israeli s such as Yitzhak
Rabinand Abba Eban indicates that certain facets of its conduct in the June War cannot be
reasonably understood as being defensive. International law, which has a chief objective of

There are a great number of speculators turned traders. They purchase courses and attend seminars,
and they all maintain fantasies of becoming the next George Soros or the next oracle of Omaha,
Warren Buffett. While these dreams are important to have, they also become an impediment to
traders forming their own opinion and view of the markets. It also lays the foundation for reckless
behavior and inability to grind it out.
Although trading can be exciting and rewarding on a day to day basis, the truth is that it is not a
sprint. There are few times in a trader s history that he will make all of his profits on one trade. It
takes consistent effort over long periods of time, a marathon approach that will help traders even
come close to possibly replicating the great feats of Soros and Buffett.
With this fact in mind, it is no wonder that 95% of traders fail. Whether they fail on an individual
trade or blow their account out in six months, it all stems from a rush to action, a false sense of
urgency that if they miss this opportunity, it will be a long

  • 2. Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. (Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however, unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic, vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept. He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Apollo 13 Pros And Cons As I have mentioned so many times in my previous posts, I m so into watching and reading up on Apollo 13 mission which goes back to 1970. The mission was supposed to highlight the third moon landing, however, the novelty of moon landing among the general public seemed to have already worn off, none of TV networks in the United States broadcast the live transmission from the Apollo 13 crew members, only a handful of family members and NASA s flight controllers actually watched it. However, what seemed to have been a plain sailing mission was about to take a sudden turn for the worse. Right after the supposed to be live TV broadcast, a flight controller in the Mission Control told Jack Swigert, a command module astronaut, to turn on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to conserve as much energy as possible, they had to turn off whatever energy consuming equipment―the guidance system, the heater, whatever possible―reducing its energy consumption down to only 12 ampere an hour. In addition to this, they were faced with a carbon dioxide issue; since the lunar module was designed for two men for a day and a half as I mentioned, every time the astronauts exhaled the levels of carbon dioxide was inching up to a hazardous level. It was like a bomb waiting to go off. The mission of Apollo 13 was literally fraught with danger; once a problem was solved, another issue cropped up and both the astronauts and the flight controllers were forced to tackle those problems one by one; putting heads together in order to safely bring the astronauts back down to Earth. Among many things, what struck me the most was the abortion of the moon landing mission. The mission commander, Jim Lovell later mentioned in an interview for a TV documentary show, I thought to myself, why didn t this explosion happen to Apollo 12? Why couldn t it wait until Apollo ... • 5. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments. DISCUSSION 1.Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The temperature and pressure inside the reactor began to rise uncontrollably in a runaway chemical reaction. Inside the reactor the pressure was still, increasing reaching 400 pounds per square inch and boosting the rupture disc. A good example of what was happening is to compare it to a tea kettle on the stove. As steam and heats up within the kettle, it looks for an opening to relieve pressure. When the steam finds that opening it begins to make the whistling sound which gets louder and louder as the water continues to heatup and the steam escapes the kettle more quickly. ... • 7. The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum Essay examples The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum My memories of Latin in high school are less than fond. I remember slouching in my chair, staring blankly at my desk as I tried to remember the form of the word agricola (farmer) in the ablative plural. Much of the class consisted of mundane activities like this. We translated endless Bible passages from Latin, translated what seemed like the entire body of Greek mythological literature, and read hundreds of lines from The Aneid, The Odyssey, and The Iliad. I signed up for Latin because I was considering going into medicine, and I had heard that doctors need to know Latin. As high school progressed, though, a medical career seemed less and less likely so it appeared I had no real use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until the Reformation, church services were conducted using only Latin. One of the key principles of the Protestant movement was that the entire Christian message, Scripture included, should be made accessible to the common folk in their own tongue (Hammond 243 4). The Catholic Church also began to use the vernacular for its homilies during the Counter Reformation for similar reasons (Smith 32). The switch from Latin to the common tongues did not occur overnight, though. In fact, the Catholic Church mandated that Mass be spoken only in Latin until the bishops of the second Vatican Council voted to make the switch in 1962 (Waquet 47). For hundreds of years it remained a key part of the education from middle school to college of those students that were fortunate enough to get one. Latin was taught so that students could read ancient religious, philosophical, and dramatic texts in their original language (Smith 27). By reading these texts in their original tongue, students would gain the key to the superior wisdom of the Ancient World and to the piety of the Christian Fathers (Smith 27 8). When these privileged students entered college before the decline of Latin, they entered a deeply Latin world. Upon entering the building, they would see Collegium inscribed above the door, their classrooms would be labeled sexta, quinta, quarta, and the teacher would lecture in Latin. In fact, students were required to converse only in Latin during free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The View of Womanhood in La Belle Dame Sans Merci, Mariana and The Eve of Saint Agne Works Cited Missing These three poems show a wide range of visions of woman hood. La Belle Dame Sans Merci shows a temptress, Mariana portrays woman as awaiting man and The Eve of Saint Agnes depicts woman as nubile. So here we are shown the two extremes of womankind, and then Madeline in The Eve of Saint Agnes as the almost perfect medium. La Belle Dame sans Merci leads men on, she is a temptress. Her rich attire creeps rustling to her knees; / Half hidden, like a mermaid… / …and sees / In fancy, fair St. Agnes in her bed . This shows how she is ready for marriage and to lose her virginity, but her innocence is shown as she dares not look behind, or all the charm is fled . Unlike la Belle Dame she does not the man to loiter . Madeline does have this temptress value, which is shown as Porphyro accuses her of being a Belle Dame Sans Mercy when she will not wake. But the contrast is that Madeline does not know this and does this unintentionally. Keats describes la Belle Dame Sans Merci with an admiration. It is almost as if he is the man in the poem. It seems this way because it is a narrative poem. The poem tells a story, in a conversational way. Ah what can ail thee the first line asks. Then Keats proceeds to tell the story. Keats shows man as weak in this poem, love as a disability. We are shown how this man is overcome by emotion as he is left palely loitering in case la Belle Dame returns. In Keats s extract from The Eve of Saint Agnes he describes her as a figure of beauty. This time it is portrayed as genuine and deep as Madeline is not aware of an audience. The story of The Eve of Saint Agnes is a charming one as we see love, as it should be; requited and true. Tennyson depicts Mariana as a weak ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He did not care much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his nephew did not feel embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to the audience was that life is too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it often seems that people are focusing more on their possessions than one another or experiences. But these possessions steal time, energy, and attention that can be used on ore valuable and meaningful in life. Materialistic things are temporary, they constantly perish and fade. But memories and experiences are forever. The joy, fulfillment and happiness that many look for in these possessions can be found in invisible things such as love, peace, relationships and hope. The heart and the soul is what makes someone valuable. The people who live their lives pursuing materialistic possessions are never happy. They are always desiring newer or bigger things because their deepest heart desires are not satisfied through these material possessions. Materialism is a distraction. People are spending so much time trying to have the perfect car, perfect house, and perfect appearance and less time focusing on the importance of family, friendships, and one another. There is a huge difference between material happiness and spiritual happiness and that is something Randy also wanted his kids to remember and understand as they were growing ... The decision that I made about this question has shaped and changed my life forever. He continues to come across food items that claim to be healthy and void of processed junk, but all he finds are items high in calories or the expense is too much for an average American. He argues that wholesome foods are actually just as bad, if not even worse, than junk foodand that the Big Food industry has the technology available to make food healthier, but still retain its appeal. Pollan has increased spite for nutritionism, which is the idea behind packing healthier ingredients into processed foods which is what Freedman is advocating for. Pollan s view is much the same as some scientists, food activists, nutritionists, and celebrity chefs. He has had such an influence that the Silicon Valley caters to the wholefoods movement and the progression to familiarizing the masses with simpler eating habits (Freedman). However, being an area full of technological endeavors, the Silicon Valley sees technology as the culprit as well. The New York Times Magazine s food writer, Mark Bittman also shares views with Pollan. In fact, Bittman has even written a cookbook on how to eat better. While most are more wholesome there are still few recipes that are high in fat. One of his recipes consists of corn being sautГ©ed in bacon fat and then topped with bacon (Freedman). Freedman argues that technology would help revolutionize the American diet. A muscle known as the heart is a major organ that circulates blood through the human body by veins and arteries known as the circulatory system. Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart The heart is located in the thoracic cavity of the chest in the middle of the lungs and beneath the sternum. At the base, or top of the heart, is the aorta, pulmonary arteries, and superior vena cava. The heart wall has three layers; the epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. The epicardium is the outer most layer known as the visceral layer of the pericardium. Beneath the epicardium is the myocardium. The myocardium is the thick muscular layer that contains cardiac muscle tissue, which causes the heart to pump. The inside of the heart is the endocardium. The Criticism Of Totalitarianism Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever it can be done. A distinctive feature of totalitarian governments is an elaborate ideology, a set of ideas that gives meaning and direction to the society . The concept was first developed in the 1920s by the Weimar German jurist, and later Nazi academic, Carl Schmitt, and Italian fascists. Schmitt used the term, Totalstaat, in his influential work on the legal basis of an all powerful state, The Concept of the Political (1927). The concept became prominent in Western political discourse as a concept that highlights similarities between Fascist states and the Soviet Union. The notion of totalitarianism as a total political power by the state was formulated in 1923 by Giovanni Amendola, who described Italian Fascism as a system fundamentally different from conventional dictatorships. The term was later assigned a positive meaning in the writings of Giovanni Gentile, Italy s most prominent philosopher and leading theorist of fascism. He used the term totalitario to refer to the structure and goals of the new state, which were to give the total representation of the nation and total guidance of national goals. There are 117 elements known to date. An element is defined as a substance that is made up of a single atom. While 94 of these elements are naturally occurring, 22 of these elements are artificial. A complete list of elements can be found on the periodic table of the elements, arranged by atomic number and by chemical property. When substances are formed through ionic or covalent bonding, they can be combined with other substances to form mixtures or compounds. A compound is a pure substance that is made up of two or more substances. A compound is a homogenous mixture that requires all elements comprising the mixture to be present in fixed proportions. When elements are combined to make a compound, they do not retain their individual properties. Furthermore, in order to separate a compound into its individual elemental components, a large amount of energy must be used. Compounds form naturally and have elemental stability; stability depends on the number of electrons that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Main Idea Of The Article The Aquinas Inquiry, Is To The main idea of the article The Aquinas Inquiry, is to explain or kind of conclude what a medieval philosophers panel would look like and how they would feel about the invasion of Iraq, Tony Blair s decisions, and Saddam Hussein and determine the reasons. The members of the Aquinas Inquiry have already developed a set of six criteria which should be met in order for any war to be considered just. The set of criteria will be used in this article to determine whether or not Tony Blairhad just cause. The article suggests that Blair could ve argued that he did it because of 9 /11 but without the evidence it could not be proven and he would not have just cause, but the panel could take it into consideration if Y harmed Y s own people as being just cause. Likely outcome: The panel initially divides evenly. After a stormy two hour meeting with Alastair Campbell in closed session, Christine de Pisan leaves in tears and the panel votes 3 0 that Tony Blair did have Just Cause . The third on the list is Right Intentions meaning that there was nothing to gain out of this, it wasn t for personal reasons, and going into this there was good intentions. The panel members are on record as believing that the aim of any war must be the achievement of peace and of the just cause not revenge, the desire for plunder or the suffering of destruction of the people on the other side . Due to the fact that Tony did not gain anything nor was there evidence to prove self intentions he had to have the right intentions. Likely outcome: In the absence of any evidence of self interested motives, the panel would probably vote that Tony Blair must ve had the right intentions . Frank Serpico went to his captain and the New York mayor about this corruption, but they did not do anything about it. Allegory can be found in many pieces of literature, such as the Canterbury tales, in particularly two tales: the wife of bath and the pardoner s tale. Both tales are written by Geoffrey Chaucer who uses allegory to convey a message. Chaucer indirectly discusses vices he apparently despises, sins committed by humans that he opposes. They can also be injustices, oppressions to certain groups of people at his time. Chaucer uses allegory in the wife of bath to mock women and to show greed s consequences in the pardoners tale. The Japanese naval forces launched an attack on the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor, the attack including mini submarines and aircraft. In an effort to destroy dozens of ships in the U.S. Navy, the Japanese aircraft dropped hundreds of bombs, along with torpedoes (Perlman, 2011). It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world s most popular sport. The game is played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing goal. In this essay i am going to write about the history of soccer, my favorite soccer club and my favorite soccer player who is my role model. The old form of soccer used to allow many ill practices like kicking, punching, biting and gouging. The main aim was to carry the ball to a target spot. People grew so fond of the game that they would throng the field all day long. Sometimes the competition grew fierce and masses got so wild that there were frequent incidents of violence during the game. In 1815, a major development took place that made soccer popular in Universities, Colleges and Schools. The popular English School and Eton College came forth with a set of rules, known as the Cambridge Rules. Football was segregated into two groups; some colleges and schools opted for Rugby rules that allowed tripping, shin kicking and also carrying the ball. These rules were exclusively prohibited as per the Cambridge rules. In October 1863, eleven representatives from London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst themselves. The outcome of this meeting was the formation of the Football Association. In December 1863, the Rugby Football and Association football finally split as the supporters of the Rugby School rules walked out. Firmly establishing the foundation of soccer in 1869, the Football Association strictly banned any kind of handling of the ball. When and where exactly did soccer start is a question that has no precise answer to it.
