Lactococcus lactis is a Gram positive bacterium commonly used to produce buttermilk and cheese. In
most cases they are known to produce Lactic acid. Traditionally regarded as a GRAS microbe, and
with its ability to produce lactic acid, it is one of the most important organisms used in the dairy
industry, used extensively in the early stages of production of several kinds of cheeses(Siezen,
Bayjanov et al. 2010). A good understanding of the genetic and enzymatic information of the cycles
that drive the production of lactic acid in these microbes is essential for the dairy industry.

I m sure you all remember watching or reading the tales of Cinderella as a child. I know I do, I grew
up wearing plastic heels and itchy princess dresses wishing for my dream prince. Through reading
various versions of this magical tale, however, I have been struck by the different cultural values
represented in the story and how that differed with the Disney version I grew up with. Two versions of
the story that stood out to me were The Little Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault and perhaps one the
earliest versions, Yeh Shen, an Asian fairy tale written by Duan Cheng Shi. But before we dive into
these mystical tales, ask your fairy godmother for a sparkly gown and a pair of glass slippers, because
we have a ball to attend.

The male tribe members went to long measures to prevent incest, like hiding in bushes or running
away from the female family member. Freud focuses on this idea of repressed incestuous desires that
one innate has and has to constantly fight against, in order to fit in society. Freud deems this idea of
incest and the killing of the totem animal as taboo, which is this idea of something being both
clean/sacred and unclean/forbidden at the same time. Taboo is a prohibition forced upon people
directed towards an internal, powerful desire that people want, but must avoid at all costs. The desire
to violate this prohibition is deep in their unconscious. Freud acknowledges this internal desire and
believes that: the persistence of the taboo, namely that the original desire to do the prohibited thing
must also still persist among the tribes concerned. They must therefore have an ambivalent attitude
towards their taboos. In their unconscious there is nothing they would like more than to violate them,
but they are afraid to do so and the fear is stronger than the desire. The desire is unconscious,
however, in every individual member of the tribe just as it is in neurotics (Freud 40). These people
begin to have an ambivalent and guilty attitude towards what the taboo is actually inhibiting. They

Colonization produces conflicting identities because it is an act in overwhelming one culture with
another. Once a new group has exerted their power and control in a new land, their specific elements
of life begins to spread throughout and eventually into the lives of the indigenous. For example, when
the Spanish established their rule in Peru, slowly but surely, the native Andeans began to assimilate
into their lifestyle. They incorporated Spanish culture into their daily lives such as utilising the color
