Vulnerable Adults
UK Health and Social Care System with the effect of policies and legislations in England Health

Introduction Health service is defined as a top most service that is related to the diagnosis and
treatment of disease, or the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health (Capezuti, Siegler and
Mezey, 2007). There are personal and non personal health services. In UK, National Health Service
(NHS) launched in the year 1948. Now it is the world's largest publically funded health service. The
health service in NHS is adorned with efficiency and comprehensive to provide maximum help and
support for the needed people. Social care is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The community care is aimed to offer help and support for both the vulnerable adult and their carer.
The first step is to provide help for vulnerable adults is the recognition of him. Since the lacking of
collaboration with multi agency and resources in majority of the local authorities and primary care
trusts it would be unrecognised with the arrangements or referrals for the assessments related to
needs (Baggett, 1989). This problem takes place with the lack of information and knowledge of the
care providers since they are lacking of knowledge with the present legislation. It leads to more
spending and needless action to provide maximum help and support for the vulnerable adults in the
needed time. Most of the vulnerable adults are unaware of the help that is to be provided; there
should be an immediate action to prevent this situation from worsening. Most of the adults are too
proud seeking their help and needs from the care providers (Backhaus, 2011). For example, the
visitors of the adults in hospital give the more support to offer help and support from the care
providers. But there are some adults those who are avoided especially in majority of situation and
their condition is getting worsening. Section 46 of the National Health Service and community care

School Counselor Reflection
As a future school counselor, I can reflect that these past eight weeks, I have a full understanding of
the roles and responsibilities of a school counselor in a traditional high school. Practicum 2 has been
learning experiences that I will remember as I start my new profession. I believe that being exposed
and actively involved with a group of school counselors brought a wide range of knowledge that I
plan to utilize in the future. As a continuum from my Practicum 1, the following CACREP standards
are mentioned below.
Counseling & Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or
beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is
essential for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor–student
relationship. There are several characteristics or behaviors that I feel school counselors should have,
that helps them maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to open–up
their thoughts or accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot of the times,
we can think that we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and listen at the
students first. Also, school counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. Students can feel more
comfortable with individuals they like and accept. In addition, it is essential for all school
counselors to appreciate diversity. It is important for school counselors to

Reflective Essay On Social Work
PS/MS 96 ACT, School of the Arts, Collaboration and Technology is a Pre K – 8 Community School
located in East Harlem. The school offers counseling services for all students through designated
Department of Education funding. The school social worker and school counselor split the caseload.
The school social worker focuses on the middle school students and the school counselor focuses on
the elementary school students. Each conducts group and individual sessions, with both mandated
and at–risk students. Additionally, their teachers refer some students. When a teacher becomes
aware of a possible need for counseling, that teacher refers the student to either the school social
worker or counselor. The social worker can also refer students to outside agencies. The school social
worker is also involved in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) team, the school's wellness team,
and the attendance team. Generally, the social worker, in connection with the school psychologist,
determines the needs of the students and which services will be provided. As a social work intern, I
work with the school social worker to provide counseling, crisis intervention, conduct group
sessions, and, connect students and families to community resources. As a social worker intern I am
responsible for managing a student caseload, preparing case notes, making classroom observations,
assisting with the high school admissions process, and sitting in on the various teams the school
social worker is apart of.

A Social Worker Has A Large And Diverse Population
A school social worker has a large and diverse population that they work with. This can cause a
variety of needs that a social worker has to try and meet. One population a school social worker may
have to work with is immigrant children. Working with immigrant children can bring many
challenges, including higher educational and social needs, due to not fully understanding the English
language. Another challenge that may be present is working with a higher probability of these
children living in poverty. One way a school social worker can help meet the needs of immigrant
children is through after–school programs. Joy Pastan Greenberg (2014) shows this in the journal
article Significance of After–School Programming for Immigrant Children ... Show more content on

After–school programs have proven to have positive effects on social and emotional development.
The benefits are protection and opportunities for enrichment, socialization, and acculturation. Also,
after–school programs help to increase educational attainment. This is important when only about
20% of learning happens in the classroom. After–school programs provide activities such as art,
sports, recreation and educational enrichment. It also allows children to form relationships with
peers and adults. Another benefit of after–school programs that it encourages the development of
identity and personal exploration (Greenberg, 2014, pp 243–251).
A school social worker has many different roles when working with immigrant children. One role
that a social worker has is being an advocate for the need of after–school programs. School social
workers also advocate for funding at a local, state, and federal levels. Another role is being an
educator. School social workers can educate families of the benefits that after–school programs
have. They can also educate the community members about specific immigrant populations. This
way the community members can better understand more about the culture of the immigrant
population in their community and became more culturally sensitive. School social workers can also
educate policy makers on the importance of after–school programs. An additional role a social
worker has in this setting is a broker, connecting

Personal Note On Social Work
1. I believe that a career in social work is a good fit for me, because all of my life I have always
wanted to help others improve their lives. I have been able to easily pick up on others feeling easily,
which I believe will help me see through the walls that my future clients have up.
I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and severe panic disorder over the course of the past 10
years. My panic disorder and anxiety was at its worse during my freshman and sophomore year of
high school; to help me get through the struggles I was introduced to the school psychologist. I
wanted to help others the way that she helped me. After talking to her about my future career
choices she stated that I would like social work a lot more than psychology due to all of the paper
work I would be given with psychology. My current plan is to become a school social worker, and to
achieve a masters and possibly doctorates degree.
2. The first core value that relates to my understanding of how to be an ethical social worker is
dignity and worth of the person. I believe that this core value is needed because, every client needs
to be treated equally, so that the individual can reach their full potential.
The first core value that relates to my understanding of how to be an ethical social worker is
integrity. I feel that this core value is important, because to become an ethical social worker they
would need to be honest and responsible.

The Structure Of A Social Services Department
Within the department of Social Services all the roles are in a hierarchy system. At the bottom of the
system is where a service user would make first contact with the department. This is where the
service user would be assessed to deem whether the potential user is eligible to receive help and to
which department would offer the service user the most appropriate help, for instance whether they
would benefit from being referred to the mental health team or another relevant department. It is
important that the first assessment is carried out thoroughly in order for the service user to get the
help they need if they are vulnerable and if there are any safeguarding issues. The structure of a
social services department is organised in such a way that there are specialist teams available to deal
with various issues that affect service users. If someone has a mental health problem they will be
able to receive specialist help from the mental health team, who will liaise with other professionals
within the mental health sector such as psychiatrists and community mental health nurses, so that the
service user can access all the available resources available and receive a positive outcome to their
experience. The children and family's department will be able to offer specialist help in supporting
parents and children to stay together or if needs be intervention and safeguarding. These social
workers will have specialist knowledge of how to interact with children and their families to

Role Of A School Social Worker
Abstract
This paper defines the role of a school social worker and also explains social problems, roles,
important trends and national organizations. School social workers help students succeed
academically and have also learned to take into account the student life at home. With research
within previous years and current years I am able to determine how the social work field will grow
even more because of the high demand of well academically disciplined professionals.
School Social Work A career in the social work field has been shown to grow more by the year
2016. Social workers are professionals that help individuals and families. However, school social
workers are no different. They are not only focused on helping at school but also at home. As
professionals they can provide resources to support the academic and social success of the students.
This field of practice focuses on helping students handle issues they face everyday at school and at
home. A school social worker is there to help students succeed in school and cope with problems
and other staff understand on how to handle situations they may not know how to help with.
Definition of School Social Work This field of practice is mainly partnered with schools. School
social work was addressed in this setting of emotional situations often what prevented students from

Environmental Strengths And Weaknesses Of Tara
Environmental Strengths and Weaknesses Tara also has many strengths in her environment that she
utilizes. For example, Tara has developed many friendships at each of her placements. This has
allowed her to establish a social network of friends, which she maintains via social media. She also
values her faith and attends church as a positive environment. She reports religious participation as a
comforting resource for her. Also, her school environment is a strength for Tara. She has a positive
relationship with school faculty and feels comfortable and confident enough to engage in classroom
discussion. She also utilizes a community program for tutoring to help her achieve her educational
goals. Tara 's environment also has areas of weakness to be addressed. She is currently unemployed
and unable to provide for herself. It is not known if she has access to public transportation to pursue
employment. This would be necessary because she does not currently have a driver 's license.
Although Tara participates at school, she does not turn in her homework, which is a continuous
contributing factor to her low GPA. Her previous foster mother, Ms. Boot, reported that Tara had
difficulty completing her homework. As mentioned, she receives weekly tutoring for reading and
math. It is unknown if a deficit in her reading ability contributes to this difficulty. However,
homework completion would be necessary to address in order for Tara to reap the full benefits of
education. Tara 's

My Decision For Graduate School
Personal Position I feel that my decision do graduate school was one of the first decisions that was
guided by prayer. The majority of my decisions since graduating from Longwood University have
been based on circumstances. When I graduated I decided not to move back home but to stay in the
small town. My parents informed me that they would no long pay for anything and I needed to find
a job to pay my bills. I graduated with a degree in therapeutic recreation. I began by applying to
anywhere that had a position open regardless of if I wanted to work there or not. All of my
experience was in parks and recreation. I knew that I did not want to work in psych, and with the
elderly. However I applied to many behavioral health hospitals and retirement homes. The first place
to off me a job was Poplar Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, which was a locked psych hospital.
It was not something I wanted, however it was what I needed. I took the job figuring I would hate it,
turned out I absolutely love mental health and behavioral health. After almost two years of work at
Poplar Springs and driving an hour and a half to work each day my fiancé and I through it would be
best to move closer to my family in Northern Virginia where there are better opportunities for jobs
and jobs closer to our home. We moved before I turned 26, which is when I would be kicked off of
my parent's health insurance. I wanted a job at a hospital with teens. Again I needed a job so that I

Social Work Reflection
In the classroom, I have had the opportunity of being in both the social worker role and the client
role. These experiences have provided me with great knowledge on how to go about certain
situations that may arise, as well as interventions that may be beneficial to the clients. During the
in–class exercises, I have noticed that in the role of a social worker I get thrown off if the client
responds too strong or responds in a way that is unexpected. I become speechless because I am
completely caught off guard and it seems like I no longer have control over the conversation. During
one of the role plays, I received feedback from the instructor and my peers on how to combat this
issue. The instructor communicated the benefits of using playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and
empathy (PACE), during those times when I am stuck. The instructor showed me exactly what
PACE looked like in this situation where the client was not wanting to go to school. She showed me
what it means to accept what the client may be saying or feeling in the moment, being able to
empathize and understand the client, as well as being curious rather than making assumptions about
the client. The instructor also helped me to address the client in a positive way when I felt that the
client was being disrespectful. Prior to this class exercise, I had never heard about PACE, yet when I
look back on the social workers that I have shadowed, I have seen them use it numerous times but

A Career as a Social Worker Essay
A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food,
homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of
social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers.
There are advantages to being a social worker. One example is social workers get to save children.
They take the child or children out of an abusive home, weather that is mental abuse, or physical
abuse. Social workers also find ways to help the family if they have an illness and can not take care
of the child or children, or have a problem with drugs or alcohol and are unfit to care for the child or
children. The social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even on rare occasions, that the child is being abused as the social worker is in the home, they may
need to make a decision to weather or not to take affirmative action and take the child out of the
home right then in that moment, or wait. Also when becoming a social worker, the job will require
that everyone who is involved in the situation is receiving help. According to the Child Care Careers
book this may include giving individual help to every person in the situation. Such as, if the mother
is a drug addict, she may require some rehab. Or if the father is very ill, he will need medical
attention. Or if the parent(s) and a little insane or have brain trouble, they might need to go to an
insane asylum. Every person involved in the situation needs individual "game plans". One treatment
does not fit all. Each individual person has a specific plan to help them with the problem he or she
may have. This may include medicine, medical attention, schooling, or even jail. For the child this
might include schooling, medical attention, or even foster homes. To be in this field of work, a
proper education is required. The Child Care Career Book says "a masters degree in social work is
needed if this person would like to go into the mental health, research, or supervisory positions". It
also states that, "A doctorate id required for teaching and desirable for some research and
administrative jobs". Also a social worker at my school said

My Career Path
Life works in mysterious ways, and my path has led me to pursue a career in the Social Work field.
My last two years of high school were unique because I was a full time dual enrolled student, which
allowed me to graduate with both my high school diploma and my Associate of Arts degree. Now I
am twenty years old and will be graduating with my Bachelor's in Psychology. Upon entering my
undergraduate program, I had some idea of what career path I wanted to follow. I had taken many
entry–level psychology courses while pursuing my Associate of Arts degree and it peaked my
interest. At first, I wanted to be a guidance counselor and then I contemplated being a mental health
counselor. It was not until I took a course the first year of my undergraduate career that I knew my
future career path. The course I took was Issues in Culture and Society with a concentration in
Death and Dying. In that class, I learned how beautiful death can be and how important it is for
someone to have a good death. The class also gave me information on grieving for all ages and how
to help individuals experiencing grief and this is when I decided to become a bereavement
counselor. My mother died when I was seven and I had to grieve in silence, so I want to help others
with their grief, so they do not have a similar experience to mine.
In order to accomplish my aspiration as a bereavement counselor, I knew I needed to gain
experience in the area of bereavement. I began an internship in an organization

Becoming A Master Level Social Worker Essay
Question 1 & 2
I am interested in becoming a master–level social worker to gain the skills necessary to become a
well–rounded advocate for change. Likewise, I am interested in having the opportunity to work with
faculty who are conducting research and making an impact in the Charlotte community. As a social
worker, I plan on working towards eliminating the school–to–prison pipeline, which directs youth
into the juvenile and criminal justice system without taking into consideration how social problems,
such a poverty, abuse, and drugs, directly affects their behavior. In addition, I would like to tackle
the issues surrounding adolescent sexuality, including teenage pregnancy, STI transmission, and sex
education in schools. My target population are vulnerable youth within urban cities. Since The
University of North Carolina Charlotte is located in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the
nation, I have decided to seek admission into the MSW program. Having the opportunity to utilize
the skills I will be learning in the classroom while working hands on with my target population is of
utmost importance to me. Upon graduating with my MSW, I plan on continuing my work in the
Charlotte community and working as a full–time school social worker. UNC Charlotte's MSW
programs puts emphasis on serving vulnerable populations, which is congruent with the type of
people I would like to work with.

Professional Values And Ethics Of Social Work
Social Work is a distinctive practice and an ever–changing field in our world today. A few especially
intriguing aspects of this profession are the wide spectrum of its professional values and ethics,
appreciation for human diversity, and the emphasis on social and economic justice. With such
widespread approaches and focuses, a master 's degree in Social Work would open endless and
exciting possibilities for my future. However, I believe that before a career is even considered, one
must examine their personal motivations and influences. Social Work has been my primary career
choice for years and no other path has caught my attention. I cannot remember a time in my life that
becoming a social worker did not seem right. I feel like my whole life I have wanted to be a social
worker and, as cliché as it may sound, each year this unexplained feeling has become stronger. More
specifically, my personal interest in the social work field was solidified when I lived with my aunt.
My inclination to become a social worker solidify out of three–years of interaction and counseling
sessions with my aunt's nightly bruises and screams. At the age of 13, my father lost his job and
became severely sick. By my father's requisite, I moved in with my aunt and her husband, David, in
Baltimore, Maryland. My aunt was a short, petite 32–year–old woman and at thirteen, I weighed
more than she did. Many nights I kept my door cracked, sleeping with one eye open, knowing that

Counseling Specializations And Multidisciplinary Teams
Counseling Specializations and Multidisciplinary Teams
It is my belief, a school counselor must have the personality characteristics of an effective counselor
and have a personal approach to treatment. Personal characteristics of an effective counselor are as
follows: making life oriented choices, being authentic, sincere, and honest with students at all times.
Other characteristics consist of appreciating the influence of different cultures and being passionate
with students as they are counseled. Having the respect for others, regardless of culture, race, and
ethnicity are also characteristics of being a great counselor. Being authentic, honest, and sincere
helps build a great rapport with students, parents, and co–workers. Students need someone to be
passionate and show genuine concern when helping them through their educational journey. Each
child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to
grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It should be a counselor's
desire along with teaching staff to help students meet their needs to their fullest potential in these
areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk–taking, and invites shared ideas.
A school counselor should have goals of being a leader in educational reform, being visible on
school teams, and serving as a student and system advocate. School Counselors should provide a
bridge between students, teachers, and

The Profession Of Social Work
One of the main purposes of my interest in the profession of social work is to gain the knowledge

their problems and needs are met. The profession of social work can be rigorous, yet it is a
rewarding career that I am ready and willing to engage in. With the career being very diverse, it
allows me to devote to my community in a number of ways from working in mental health to
provide adequate therapy for individuals, to being employed with Child Protective Services to
promote the well–being of children. Social Work also takes part in the role of being an advocate for

Working with children has always been a true passion of mine. Coincidently, it is a top interest for
me in the Social Work profession. Being a camp counselor allowed me to interact with every child
in a unique and special way. My duties consisted of me helping the kids with their homework,
aiding in their proficiency in reading and writing, and creating activities for the kids to keep them
motivated. My job also included keeping word documentation of the day to day activities in the

teamwork, along with making sure every student remained in good academic standing when
returning back to school. This year I had volunteered at Northwest Middle School with a school

The Career Path Of A Social Worker : A Career For My Career
Choosing a career path is the most significant decision one will make in their lifetime. In order to
aid me in my selection, I have chosen to do research on vocations that interest me. While selecting
an occupation to study, a few jobs caught my attention, such as a substance abuse counselor or a
mental health counselor. Yet, after additional research, I decided to pursue the career path of a social
worker, There are a few topics within the life of a social worker that I desired information about,
from the education and training required, and the work environment, to the responsibilities, income
range, and job outlook. After nearly a month of research, I can conclude that a social worker may be
a plausible occupation for my future. First of all, before one can think about their future career, they
must accomplish the education and training required to become a member of the field they wish to
work in. For instance, social workers minimally hold a Bachelor's degree in social work, or in a
related field, such as sociology or psychology. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states, "A BSW
prepares students for direct–service positions, such as caseworker or mental health assistant,"
("Education", Bureau of Labor Statistics). In addition, if one chooses, they can obtain a Master's
degree or Doctorate in social work. These degrees will give the graduate more experience to present
when applying for positions in social work, thus qualifying them for a higher salary, with more
benefits.

Working With High School Students Essay
Having the opportunity as counseling students to provide services at a counseling internship
placement site can be a great opportunity for us counseling students to put in practice the theories
we have learned during class. But this can also be a tremendous challenge for us but at the same
time it can be an incredible amazing experience. I believe the types of clients that can be kind of
difficult for me to work with are high school students. I believe working with high school students
can be a challenge for me, because as we know during this stage High School students are dealing
with their teenager's year and entering the life cycle of a young adulthood. During High school,
students also attempt to face different types of emotions, which can make it difficult to work with
them. As stated by Erik Erikson (1902–1994), adolescents from 12 to 18 years attempt to be in a
certain stage called Identity vs. Role confusion. I believe that as counseling students providing
services to High school students during this stage can be a challenge because this is stage is very
important for every individual. Because they are not only trying to discover more about themselves
and searching for a identity they are also making different type of important decision in their lives
such as choosing a career. My name is Arianna Eras. I am 22 years old and I was born in Ecuador.

Description Of Person Centered Theory
Lien Hua a sixteen year old first generation Chinese American. Hua came to the school social work
counselor complaining of feeling stressed. Hua explained that she is interested in pursuing social
work when she goes away to college, however, her parents would like her to either practice
medicine or law. She reported that just thinking of talking to her parents regarding her career choice
is causing her immense stress. As a result of the stress she reports that her grades have dropped and
she is socializing less. Hua has requested that the school social worker tell her what to say to her
parents to help them understand her choice.
Overview of Person–Centered Theoretical Approach
Person–Centered Theory (PCT) was cultivated by Carl Rogers from the 1940's through the 1950's
(Walsh, 2013). He first developed person–centered therapy, infusing Functional and Humanistic
views, consequently, person–centered theory followed. Rogers' authored four books expounding on

According to National Organization for Human Service human services is defined "uniquely

focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to
improving the overall quality of life of service populations. The Human Services profession is one

professionals and agencies in service delivery."
The Human Services field is a vast career, full of multiple different avenues of helping. Careers such

Worker, Social Services Administrator, School Social Worker, Substance Abuse Counselor,
Sociologist, Probation Officer and Grief Counselors. These are just some examples of the careers
that the field of Human Services has to offer and there are many more that are not listed. Although
the opportunities are endless I have decided to seek a career in the mental health field. Specifically, I
want to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I will discuss what this position entails, the education
that is needed to obtain a job in this profession, and the salary opportunities that are available both

When thinking about social work, there are different avenues that a worker can explore in this vast

at the many different fields in the area of social work, the area of Social Workers in Mental Health
facilities and outpatient clinics stands out as an area of depth and interest. This field is important

Outpatient Mental Health Clinic offers a wide range of programs including, Individual
Psychotherapy, which is treatment between a trained professional and a client. Family and couples
therapy is another service offered in the outpatient clinics. Family and couples therapy, works with
couples and families to nurture change and development in those particular situations. It tends to
view change in terms interaction between members of the intimate relationship. Group therapy,
another option in outpatient services, is when one or more therapists treat a small group of clients as
a group. The term can refer to any form of psychotherapy when delivered in a group format,
including Cognitive behavioral therapy and Interpersonal therapy, but it is usually applied to
psychodynamic group therapy where the group context and group process is explicitly utilized as a
mechanism of change by developing, exploring and examining interpersonal relationships within the
group. For those who suffer from substance abuse, there are often groups and programs created to
help maintain sobriety, learn life lessons, relapse avoidance, and NA/AA groups, geared to work
with both the mental illness as well as the addiction. In these clinics and facilities, there are often
medication evaluations and consultations available, to monitor and help maintain medication
adherence, and broaden understanding of the particular medications taken by patients. This

Graduation Speech : High School
High school was one of the most challenging moments in my life. Not only did I have to deal with
the academic pressures and social issues from my peers I had external factors that were heavily
impacting me as well. During my junior year my mom separated from her husband and me and my
three little brothers ended up staying house to house with close relatives. Shortly after that time at
the beginning of my senior year, my mom was sent to prison. In the midst of dealing with all of the
demands that any senior deals with I had to also carry the responsibility of taking care of my three
siblings. I picked up more hours from my part time job and had help from my stepdad and extended
family financially but my little brothers were depending on me psychologically. Times were tough.
At times my attention shifted away from my academics and more so to the wants and needs of my
siblings. I became so stressed out that I broke down and went to visit my high school counselor. She
then recommended me to my school's district Social Worker. At first I was nervous to open up to her
and divulge about my problems but her presence was genuine and reassuring. I felt a ton of relief as
soon as I confided to her about all of the dilemmas that I was facing. She shared resources on how to
obtain additional financial assistance. She also found a couple of after school programs close to my
neighborhood that my brothers could attend while I did one on one sessions after school with my
teachers to get me

Small Group Observation Paper
Type, Purpose, and Dynamics of the Group
The Small Group Observation assignment provided the opportunity to experience a self–help group
and better understand the intentions, purpose, and functions of support groups. The particular group
that I observed was provided through my field agency, Richland 2 School District, for all interns
serving as school social workers. The small group is considered a task group that is centered around
giving an additional layer of support for graduate students during their field placement experience.
In addition, the group addresses the school setting, district expectations, processes events, and
assists when any stressful or unanticipated occasions occur throughout the semester. The group
meets once monthly in a school conference room and continues for two hours. Furthermore, two
school social workers from the district facilitate the support groups for interns throughout their year
of field placement. The facilitators are not supervisors or preceptors for any of the group members.
Each group consists of five group participants, all graduate students in a Social Work Program.
Although the students are each completing internships as school social workers, their standing and
stages in the coursework vary as some are part–time, full time, or advanced year. The group is
established every year at the start of the fall semester and will conclude at the end of the spring
semester.

Putting food on the table may become a difficult task putting the family at risk for hunger (Martin,

Ways in which human services professionals can meet the needs of families and children are to
actively listen to each individual's perception of the problem and address each issue. If the worker is
qualified to provide counseling sessions, such as a marriage and family therapist, single members in
addition to the family as a whole should receive services. Referrals should be given to the family if
the worker cannot provide counsel (Martin, 2011). A family social worker can assist in providing
resources for food, medical, housing, child care and utility assistance, support in filling out
appropriate paperwork should be offered as well. Professionals can offer referrals to legal assistance
offices in order for a single parent to obtain child support. Informing those in this population of the

Importance Of Social Work In School
Introduction Social work within the school system is an important and necessary asset to have. It
helps many students with a severity of problems that children and adolescents face, whether it be at
home or at the school itself. The role of the social worker is to establish a working relationship
between the school and the family. In addition, they also help make sure that the child's needs are
met, whether it be their academic achievement, social, emotional and behavioural competence. By
observing the child in its environment, they establish what needs that child might have and they
figure out how they can utilize that perspective on the child to ensure that they perform to the best of
their abilities academically or socially. We are looking at the different polices and job duties that a
social worker faces while working in a school, whether it is a child with mental health related issues
or a child with learning disabilities. Methods Provide Assistance with children who have an IEP It is
understood that when a parent is worried or concerned for their Child's academic performance they
contact the school to set up a meeting with the school's child study team. A child study team consists
of a psychologist, a learning disabilities consultant and social worker. From that point on they will
discuss the needs that would be better suited for the child's academic performance. For instance, the
social worker along with the child study team must follow certain guidelines set by law and must be
included in every Child's IEP. For this reason it must state the Child's performance in school during
the present term, it must also include educational goals, including the support and services that the
school will provide to help each student meet these goals, it also includes modifications and the
accommodations to help with their progress, accommodations when taking standardized tests, and a
report of how and when the school will measure the child's progress toward annual goals, and the
transition planning that prepares for life after high school. (Stanberry, 2017) Help with Mental

Adolescence Is A Period Of Social, Physical, And...
Adolescence is a period of social, physical, and psychological development that involves stages of
exploration and experimentation (Salerno, Marshall, & Picken, 2012). As adolescents go through the
physical changes of puberty, they also must deal with a variety of psychological changes.
Adolescents face mental health concerns, behavior health concerns, social problems and future
school failures at an increased rate when originated during middle adolescents (Black, Vahratian,
Nugent, & National Center for Health Statistics, 2016). Middle adolescents with behavior concerns
are significantly associated with more delinquency throughout high school, those with more social
problems in childhood lead to adolescent social problems, and difficulties with early school
achievement foresees experiences with school failure (McCarty, et. Al, 2008). This can lead to
approximately 21–28% of adolescents experiencing an episode of major depression by the age of 19
years (Calear & Christensen, 2010). These difficulties can also linger into adulthood where further
occupational, economic and interpersonal difficulties can arise (Salerno, Marshall, & Picken, 2012).
Due to these concerns, the growth of services for adolescents has become a priority for a wide
assortment of health care perspectives. The future well–being of the country depends on raising a
new generation of skilled, competent, and responsible adults. Concerns about youth are at the center
of many policy debates. Yet at least 25

MARCH 13, 2015 INTRODUCTION
I used to work for Fort Wayne Community Schools as an assistant teacher for an elementary school.
I know there are several Human Services Professionals who are riddled throughout the various
facilities in our area. I was able to secure an interview with the school counselor at Towles
Montessori/New Tech Middle School. The school counselor's name is Joyce Paige. She has been in
the school system for the past 20 years and seen many different changes within the Family and
Marriage therapy. I was interested in the many things we discussed and a few of the suggested
questions led me to ask some questions of my own.
The interview occurred at 8:30 am in the Main Office of Towles Montessori. It began with
discussing the education needed to obtain a certification or license as an Educational Counselor. As
it turns out, an individual does not need to major in psychology during their undergraduate;
however, one does need to complete a Master's Degree in the Sciences in whatever area of expertise
the individual wants to focus on within their future career. In her case, she obtained a Master's
Degree in Educational Counseling. During her time in the Master's Program, the courses that really
made an impact were family and marriage and roughly 300 hours of clinical. The program she
attended was a three year, year round program. After she

However one of the huge parts of human services is adoption, foster care, and assisting children in
general. Being a social worker you can help make sure that children are placed in good, loving
homes, where they are going to be taken care of. There has been countless people that have helped
to form and shape the way that social workers help children; but by far one of the most influential
people would have to have been Charles Loring Brace. Charles Loring Brace has help create the

During this time churches would take care of people that where located locally around them, with
tithe money that they collected. Another huge avenue to help the needy at the begging of the
development of human services were hospitals. They would provide healthcare, food, and shelter to
those in need. As time went on taking care of the poor, orphaned, elderly and sickly, and others in
need changed as the world became more industrialized and as a result there where more people who
needed help. One way you can see this was in England with the creation of the Elizabethan Poor
Law of 1601. This was a key turning point for human services as a whole, and it help guide social
welfare in England as well as the United States to help and create the system that we have today.
The way human services formed in the United States was affected a lot by England (Woodside &
McClam, 1998). When are country was first forming much of the aid people received came from
neighbors and people in the community. We then created our own version of laws that guided how
we took care of the needy modeled off of the Elizabethan Poor Law. This lasted for a while until
people started to see those in need as just lazy or not taking care of themselves, and that if you aided
them it was just encouraging them to do nothing. Social Darwinism and theories like it started to
surface with many believing it was like a survival of the fittest and if

Purpose of social work &choice of social work as a profession.
Social Work is a powerful, selfless profession. We as a profession enable persons within a
community achieve positive and beneficial goals. We speak for those who can't speak for themselves
while teaching them how to speak for themselves. The profession of social work is about putting the
needs of others before self. I have decided to pursue social work as a profession due to my desire of
wanting to help others to set and accomplish their own personal beneficial goals. The profession is
all about making a difference for me as the worker and leaving a lasting impact on the lives of my
clients. From my experience and studies I have learned social work is a profession that provides a
variety of services for clients, families, groups, communities, and society. I want to be able to help
clients learn how to help themselves, which requires me as their social worker to be capable of
recognizing the issues at hand and also be knowledgeable enough to carry out the duties that would
be necessary to help that client progress in life. I feel that social work is a profession that should not
be taking lightly. This field of work is about enhancing the quality of life and leaving the situation
you encounter in a better state than when you as the worker made first contact. A person in this field

Vulnerable Adults

  • 1. Vulnerable Adults UK Health and Social Care System with the effect of policies and legislations in England Health care system Contents Title 1 Introduction 3 Literature review 3 Conclusion 9 References 11 Introduction Health service is defined as a top most service that is related to the diagnosis and treatment of disease, or the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health (Capezuti, Siegler and Mezey, 2007). There are personal and non personal health services. In UK, National Health Service (NHS) launched in the year 1948. Now it is the world's largest publically funded health service. The health service in NHS is adorned with efficiency and comprehensive to provide maximum help and support for the needed people. Social care is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The community care is aimed to offer help and support for both the vulnerable adult and their carer. The first step is to provide help for vulnerable adults is the recognition of him. Since the lacking of collaboration with multi agency and resources in majority of the local authorities and primary care trusts it would be unrecognised with the arrangements or referrals for the assessments related to needs (Baggett, 1989). This problem takes place with the lack of information and knowledge of the care providers since they are lacking of knowledge with the present legislation. It leads to more spending and needless action to provide maximum help and support for the vulnerable adults in the needed time. Most of the vulnerable adults are unaware of the help that is to be provided; there should be an immediate action to prevent this situation from worsening. Most of the adults are too proud seeking their help and needs from the care providers (Backhaus, 2011). For example, the visitors of the adults in hospital give the more support to offer help and support from the care providers. But there are some adults those who are avoided especially in majority of situation and their condition is getting worsening. Section 46 of the National Health Service and community care act 1990 ... • 3. School Counselor Reflection As a future school counselor, I can reflect that these past eight weeks, I have a full understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a school counselor in a traditional high school. Practicum 2 has been learning experiences that I will remember as I start my new profession. I believe that being exposed and actively involved with a group of school counselors brought a wide range of knowledge that I plan to utilize in the future. As a continuum from my Practicum 1, the following CACREP standards are mentioned below. Counseling & Helping Relationships Serving students with different backgrounds, personalities, or beliefs may not be the easiest thing to do, as their thought process may differ. Therefore, it is essential for school counselors to find healthy ways to build on a school counselor–student relationship. There are several characteristics or behaviors that I feel school counselors should have, that helps them maintain a relationship with their students. Students can be more willing to open–up their thoughts or accept suggestions when the school counselor is a good listener. A lot of the times, we can think that we have to do all the talking, but is necessary to step back and listen at the students first. Also, school counselors must be friendly and easy to approach. Students can feel more comfortable with individuals they like and accept. In addition, it is essential for all school counselors to appreciate diversity. It is important for school counselors to ... • 5. Reflective Essay On Social Work PS/MS 96 ACT, School of the Arts, Collaboration and Technology is a Pre K – 8 Community School located in East Harlem. The school offers counseling services for all students through designated Department of Education funding. The school social worker and school counselor split the caseload. The school social worker focuses on the middle school students and the school counselor focuses on the elementary school students. Each conducts group and individual sessions, with both mandated and at–risk students. Additionally, their teachers refer some students. When a teacher becomes aware of a possible need for counseling, that teacher refers the student to either the school social worker or counselor. The social worker can also refer students to outside agencies. The school social worker is also involved in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) team, the school's wellness team, and the attendance team. Generally, the social worker, in connection with the school psychologist, determines the needs of the students and which services will be provided. As a social work intern, I work with the school social worker to provide counseling, crisis intervention, conduct group sessions, and, connect students and families to community resources. As a social worker intern I am responsible for managing a student caseload, preparing case notes, making classroom observations, assisting with the high school admissions process, and sitting in on the various teams the school social worker is apart of. ... • 7. A Social Worker Has A Large And Diverse Population A school social worker has a large and diverse population that they work with. This can cause a variety of needs that a social worker has to try and meet. One population a school social worker may have to work with is immigrant children. Working with immigrant children can bring many challenges, including higher educational and social needs, due to not fully understanding the English language. Another challenge that may be present is working with a higher probability of these children living in poverty. One way a school social worker can help meet the needs of immigrant children is through after–school programs. Joy Pastan Greenberg (2014) shows this in the journal article Significance of After–School Programming for Immigrant Children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After–school programs have proven to have positive effects on social and emotional development. The benefits are protection and opportunities for enrichment, socialization, and acculturation. Also, after–school programs help to increase educational attainment. This is important when only about 20% of learning happens in the classroom. After–school programs provide activities such as art, sports, recreation and educational enrichment. It also allows children to form relationships with peers and adults. Another benefit of after–school programs that it encourages the development of identity and personal exploration (Greenberg, 2014, pp 243–251). A school social worker has many different roles when working with immigrant children. One role that a social worker has is being an advocate for the need of after–school programs. School social workers also advocate for funding at a local, state, and federal levels. Another role is being an educator. School social workers can educate families of the benefits that after–school programs have. They can also educate the community members about specific immigrant populations. This way the community members can better understand more about the culture of the immigrant population in their community and became more culturally sensitive. School social workers can also educate policy makers on the importance of after–school programs. An additional role a social worker has in this setting is a broker, connecting ... • 9. Personal Note On Social Work 1. I believe that a career in social work is a good fit for me, because all of my life I have always wanted to help others improve their lives. I have been able to easily pick up on others feeling easily, which I believe will help me see through the walls that my future clients have up. I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and severe panic disorder over the course of the past 10 years. My panic disorder and anxiety was at its worse during my freshman and sophomore year of high school; to help me get through the struggles I was introduced to the school psychologist. I wanted to help others the way that she helped me. After talking to her about my future career choices she stated that I would like social work a lot more than psychology due to all of the paper work I would be given with psychology. My current plan is to become a school social worker, and to achieve a masters and possibly doctorates degree. 2. The first core value that relates to my understanding of how to be an ethical social worker is dignity and worth of the person. I believe that this core value is needed because, every client needs to be treated equally, so that the individual can reach their full potential. The first core value that relates to my understanding of how to be an ethical social worker is integrity. • 13. The Structure Of A Social Services Department Within the department of Social Services all the roles are in a hierarchy system. At the bottom of the system is where a service user would make first contact with the department. This is where the service user would be assessed to deem whether the potential user is eligible to receive help and to which department would offer the service user the most appropriate help, for instance whether they would benefit from being referred to the mental health team or another relevant department. It is important that the first assessment is carried out thoroughly in order for the service user to get the help they need if they are vulnerable and if there are any safeguarding issues. For example, Tara has developed many friendships at each of her placements. This has allowed her to establish a social network of friends, which she maintains via social media. She also values her faith and attends church as a positive environment. She reports religious participation as a comforting resource for her. Also, her school environment is a strength for Tara. She has a positive relationship with school faculty and feels comfortable and confident enough to engage in classroom discussion. She also utilizes a community program for tutoring to help her achieve her educational goals. Tara 's environment also has areas of weakness to be addressed. She is currently unemployed and unable to provide for herself. It is not known if she has access to public transportation to pursue employment. This would be necessary because she does not currently have a driver 's license. Although Tara participates at school, she does not turn in her homework, which is a continuous contributing factor to her low GPA. Her previous foster mother, Ms. Boot, reported that Tara had difficulty completing her homework. As mentioned, she receives weekly tutoring for reading and math. It is unknown if a deficit in her reading ability contributes to this difficulty. However, homework completion would be necessary to address in order for Tara to reap the full benefits of education. The majority of my decisions since graduating from Longwood University have been based on circumstances. When I graduated I decided not to move back home but to stay in the small town. My parents informed me that they would no long pay for anything and I needed to find a job to pay my bills. I graduated with a degree in therapeutic recreation. I began by applying to anywhere that had a position open regardless of if I wanted to work there or not. All of my experience was in parks and recreation. I knew that I did not want to work in psych, and with the elderly. However I applied to many behavioral health hospitals and retirement homes. The first place to off me a job was Poplar Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, which was a locked psych hospital. It was not something I wanted, however it was what I needed. I took the job figuring I would hate it, turned out I absolutely love mental health and behavioral health. After almost two years of work at Poplar Springs and driving an hour and a half to work each day my fiancé and I through it would be best to move closer to my family in Northern Virginia where there are better opportunities for jobs and jobs closer to our home. We moved before I turned 26, which is when I would be kicked off of my parent's health insurance. I wanted a job at a hospital with teens. Again I needed a job so that I would have health ... • 21. Social Work Reflection In the classroom, I have had the opportunity of being in both the social worker role and the client role. These experiences have provided me with great knowledge on how to go about certain situations that may arise, as well as interventions that may be beneficial to the clients. During the in–class exercises, I have noticed that in the role of a social worker I get thrown off if the client responds too strong or responds in a way that is unexpected. I become speechless because I am completely caught off guard and it seems like I no longer have control over the conversation. During one of the role plays, I received feedback from the instructor and my peers on how to combat this issue. The instructor communicated the benefits of using playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy (PACE), during those times when I am stuck. The instructor showed me exactly what PACE looked like in this situation where the client was not wanting to go to school. She showed me what it means to accept what the client may be saying or feeling in the moment, being able to empathize and understand the client, as well as being curious rather than making assumptions about the client. The instructor also helped me to address the client in a positive way when I felt that the client was being disrespectful. Prior to this class exercise, I had never heard about PACE, yet when I look back on the social workers that I have shadowed, I have seen them use it numerous times but did not know it was an ... • 23. A Career as a Social Worker Essay A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food, homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers. There are advantages to being a social worker. One example is social workers get to save children. They take the child or children out of an abusive home, weather that is mental abuse, or physical abuse. Social workers also find ways to help the family if they have an illness and can not take care of the child or children, or have a problem with drugs or alcohol and are unfit to care for the child or children. Even on rare occasions, that the child is being abused as the social worker is in the home, they may need to make a decision to weather or not to take affirmative action and take the child out of the home right then in that moment, or wait. Also when becoming a social worker, the job will require that everyone who is involved in the situation is receiving help. According to the Child Care Careers book this may include giving individual help to every person in the situation. Such as, if the mother is a drug addict, she may require some rehab. Or if the father is very ill, he will need medical attention. Or if the parent(s) and a little insane or have brain trouble, they might need to go to an insane asylum. Every person involved in the situation needs individual "game plans". One treatment does not fit all. Each individual person has a specific plan to help them with the problem he or she may have. This may include medicine, medical attention, schooling, or even jail. For the child this might include schooling, medical attention, or even foster homes. To be in this field of work, a proper education is required. The Child Care Career Book says "a masters degree in social work is needed if this person would like to go into the mental health, research, or supervisory positions". It also states that, "A doctorate id required for teaching and desirable for some research and administrative jobs". Also a social worker at my school said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. My Career Path Life works in mysterious ways, and my path has led me to pursue a career in the Social Work field. My last two years of high school were unique because I was a full time dual enrolled student, which allowed me to graduate with both my high school diploma and my Associate of Arts degree. Now I am twenty years old and will be graduating with my Bachelor's in Psychology. Upon entering my undergraduate program, I had some idea of what career path I wanted to follow. I had taken many entry–level psychology courses while pursuing my Associate of Arts degree and it peaked my interest. At first, I wanted to be a guidance counselor and then I contemplated being a mental health counselor. It was not until I took a course the first year of my undergraduate career that I knew my future career path. The course I took was Issues in Culture and Society with a concentration in Death and Dying. In that class, I learned how beautiful death can be and how important it is for someone to have a good death. The class also gave me information on grieving for all ages and how to help individuals experiencing grief and this is when I decided to become a bereavement counselor. My mother died when I was seven and I had to grieve in silence, so I want to help others with their grief, so they do not have a similar experience to mine. In order to accomplish my aspiration as a bereavement counselor, I knew I needed to gain experience in the area of bereavement. I began an internship in an organization ... Likewise, I am interested in having the opportunity to work with faculty who are conducting research and making an impact in the Charlotte community. As a social worker, I plan on working towards eliminating the school–to–prison pipeline, which directs youth into the juvenile and criminal justice system without taking into consideration how social problems, such a poverty, abuse, and drugs, directly affects their behavior. In addition, I would like to tackle the issues surrounding adolescent sexuality, including teenage pregnancy, STI transmission, and sex education in schools. My target population are vulnerable youth within urban cities. Since The University of North Carolina Charlotte is located in one of the largest and most diverse cities in the nation, I have decided to seek admission into the MSW program. Having the opportunity to utilize the skills I will be learning in the classroom while working hands on with my target population is of utmost importance to me. Upon graduating with my MSW, I plan on continuing my work in the Charlotte community and working as a full–time school social worker. However, I believe that before a career is even considered, one must examine their personal motivations and influences. But this can also be a tremendous challenge for us but at the same time it can be an incredible amazing experience. I believe the types of clients that can be kind of difficult for me to work with are high school students. I know there are several Human Services Professionals who are riddled throughout the various facilities in our area. I was able to secure an interview with the school counselor at Towles Montessori/New Tech Middle School. The school counselor's name is Joyce Paige. She has been in the school system for the past 20 years and seen many different changes within the Family and Marriage therapy. I was interested in the many things we discussed and a few of the suggested questions led me to ask some questions of my own. The interview occurred at 8:30 am in the Main Office of Towles Montessori. It began with discussing the education needed to obtain a certification or license as an Educational Counselor. As it turns out, an individual does not need to major in psychology during their undergraduate; however, one does need to complete a Master's Degree in the Sciences in whatever area of expertise the individual wants to focus on within their future career. In her case, she obtained a Master's Degree in Educational Counseling. During her time in the Master's Program, the courses that really made an impact were family and marriage and roughly 300 hours of clinical.
