How Does Bridget Jones s Diary Relate To Belonging
Bridget Jones s Diary, a british american romantic comedy film based in the early 2000 s of
London. The film starring Renee Zellweger(Bridget Jone) for the 30 year old young working
women through her romantic struggles in the single life of london. Our main character bridget
spends the first half of the film having a intimate relationship with her boss, Daniel Cleaver (the
lovely Hugh Grant) that she work very hard for. Only to find later that he is cheating on her, she
then make the change to spend more time on herself. Toward the end of the movie it is clear that
Ms.Bridget Joneschoses to start a relationship with Mark Darcy(Colin Firth).
One of the main themes in this film is intimacy vs. isolation. Many young adults in the intimacy vs
isolation stage define themselve based on the relationships that they have. Finding meaning in this
outside of themselves is an important of new adulthood. The boundless stated that most adults
look for meaning in work to define themselve by what they do. Another question many adults ask
themselve according to the critically acclaimed website Very Well a major question with intimacy
vs. isolation is will I be loved or will I be alone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We then follow her to her mother annual christmas party where he loving mother attempts to
pair her up with Mark Darcy(Colin Firth). They both fine each other unbearable, but bridget hear
Mark say something very rude about her a verbally incontinent spinster who smokes like a
chimney, drinks like a fish and dresses like her mother . In that moment bridget decide that she
would (1)stop smoking, (2) start her diary, (3) and find Mr. Right. I think this moment was very
important for intimacy vs. isolation. The reason for that is because she decide to answer the
question will I be loved or will I be alone for

Pygmalion My Fair Lady Essay
Pygmalion amp; My Fair Lady
The play Pygmalion and My Fair Lady, the musical, are the same story. The only major difference
between the two, is that My Fair Lady has songs added to the dialogue. I believe the musical
version is more enjoyable because the music adds more feeling to the story.
The opening scene is after an opera. The higher class people spill out into the streets. It is here that
Eliza is selling her flowers. Eliza is a poor girl with a very thick accent. She is a respectable girl,
which she insist throughout the movie, saying to Mr. Higgins, I m a good girl . She s had a hard
life, her father being a drunk and therefore she and her mother had no money. It is ... Show more

She is there to take lessons for her speech. Colonel Pickering offers to pay full expenses for Higgins
to tun Eliza into a lady and pass her off as a duchess. Higgins accepts.
After long, excruciating lessons, Eliza starts to get it and begins to talk in perfect English. Now,
its time to try her newly learned skills. In the play, Higgins takes her to his mother s house, while
in the musical he takes her to the Ascot Races. Here they learn that she may speak perfectly, but
she still can revert to her flower girl ways. This is where Freddy Eynsford Hills falls in love with
Eliza. Eliza s father is forced into Middle Class after he inherits a large sum of money.
Mr. Higgins work on Eliza is finally put to the test at the ball. She was so charming that the Prince
asked her to a dance. A Hungarian linguistics professor, who Higgins taught, was present at the ball
to find out who was the phony. After avoiding him most of the night, Higgins offers Eliza to dance
with him. He thinks that Eliza is Hungarian because she speaks English so well.
Professor Higgins won the bet. After they get home, Colonel Pickering and Higgins congratulate
each other without a single thank you to Eliza. Eliza becomes furious and leaves the house to meet
Freddy outside. She goes back to where she used to live, but nobody recognized her, so

Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By...
In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of
fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are
an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different
types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are
linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff.
They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and
pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks,
buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the
non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and
sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to
travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water
from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water
shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the
ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully,
the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would
be comparable to drilling oil

Santo Domingo Research Paper
Staycation or vacation? These two types of past times for the holidays always have many people
playing this question. They weigh out the pro and cons to each one and try to figure out which
would befit their family the best. For people who live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic this
question always arises in different families because of the different situations Christmas brings to
this capital. People who live in Santo Domingohave to take into consideration if they stay the
streets will turn empty, they can count on good food for the holidays and the cost benefit.
However, they also have to take into consideration that just two hours away lies beautiful beaches
the they could also spend the holidayat though the beach would have many people and empty the
money for one s pocket. Even though many people vacation away from the city, a staycation in
Santo Domingo provides a smarter option for the holidays. To begin with, the obvious advantage
shows up in the money saved in a staycation. If a family stays at their house they save much money
on housing otherwise gets spent on hotels or rented apartments. This particularly shows up in the
Dominican Republicsince so many tourist go there for vacation causing the price of... Show more

small, dense, capital, driving usually becomes very stressful and dread on a daily basis.
However, once the actual holidays start the people completely disperse from this city and then the
traffic lightens up and it becomes a pleasure to drive instead of a misery. For this reason, many
people should take the advantage of driving with much few traffic and cars on a staycation in this

The Most Monumental Undertaking Of Modern Philosophy
Control is an often acknowledged concept in ancient philosophy, discussed by the likes of Epicurus
and Epictetus, among others. Often, control is articulated in regards to one s relationship with
others and their personal actions. Though the amount of things one can personally control is
limited, these things are paramount and essential for living a life that is at peace and that is
tranquil. I will be arguing that one s choices/actions are the most monumental undertaking of which
can be controlled, and is the ultimate contributor to happiness and equanimity. This state, known as
ataraxia , should be used as a constant guidance and reminder, perpetuated by virtue, of which
decisions are correct or incorrect.
Ataraxia may be characterized as a state containing balanced contentment and repose, particularly of
the mental variety. Though many philosophers, including Epicurus, Epictetus, and Sextus
Empiricus address this said state of unperturbed ness, their interpretations of how to reach ataraxia
differ slightly, though all may be applied to my argument. In his The Skeptic Way, Sextus
Empiricus discusses the process of achievement of ataraxia through differentiating between natural
goods and bads. When one accepts that what is good and bad cannot be distinguished definitely,
they must choose whether to continue pursuit of this inquiry or accept an always indefinite
solution. This choice determines the path traveled either to tranquility or agitation.

The Volcanic Eruption Of Volcanoes
Geologic Processes
Volcanoes are one of the most beautiful and yet destructive forces naturally occurring on our
planet. As the Earth s population continues to grow, more people move closer and closer to
volcanoes. Currently, an estimated 500 million people from Japan to Indonesia, and from Italy to
Oregon, live near active volcanoes. Each year, approximately 70 volcanoes will erupt, and usually
at least once every ten years, there will be a large volcanic eruption that puts the people living both
near and far in danger (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2005).
As populations continue to increase and more people are attracted to the beauty surrounding these
areas, the number of people choosing to beauty of an area over the known dangers of living ... Show

While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic
mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes
through fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure
eruption. Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can
occur over a wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from
which the pressure will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the
ground by pouring into a crack or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can
also flow back into the same fissure from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where
the lava flows, the change in the terrain is called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be
relatively small or very large. For example, the Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000
square kilometers and extends over the states of Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape
America, n.d.).
Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have
different proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava
(greater than 95%) with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon
State University, n.d.). Other volcanoes may have more cinder ash than lava.

Characters In Ragtime

Characters of Ragtime Each one of the characters in this book have a completely different
personality than the others. E.L. Doctorow portrayed all of these characters really well. What
makes this book interesting is that the characters are a mix of actual historical figures, and
imagined characters made up by Doctorow. Not many authors could blend both types of characters
and get a successful result, but Doctorow pulled it off and created a fantastic book. Baron

Belonging Involves Conforming and a Loss of Identity -...
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person s individuality. Indeed, as
the construction of one s identity is highly intricate and ever changing, several authorities often
considers its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that
belonging can be associated with the degradation of one s identity. Such impact can be explained
through the reality that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that
group however this can involve enhancing character s identity. Nonetheless, due to its complexities,
for some, belonging can threaten a person s identity and individuality. In order to belong we must

Teenagers however are often ostracized for being different and this results to the conformity of
many children and the foreclosing on uniqueness and individuality. In cases of children,
belonging is usually not associated with the degradation of identity. This may not be the case
with older people as it is a lot more complicated and sometimes conforming may be the only way
to belong. We must consider times at which belonging can threaten an individualised identity.
For some, the only way to belong is to conform to expectations, losing personal ideologies as a
result. In the book The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Junior is a perfect example of
conforming in order to belong. Junior is just a poor Indian reservation kid who dreams of a
better life and takes action by attending an all white private school in Reardan. He is considered
as a traitor by his people and doesn t find much hope when somewhere on the road to Reardan,
[he] became something less than Indian. And once [he] arrived at Reardan, [he] became
something less than less than less than Indian. Junior struggle to fit is exacerbated when the

people. The trouble is, he didn t belong in the all white school either as his life [was] a constant

Cognitive Neuropsychology Essay
The connection between the structure of the brain, cognitive functioning and behaviour is the field
subject of neuropsychology, which link disciplines such as experimental psychology and neurology

neuropsychology aims to analyse the correlation between cognitive function of everyday life to
brainstructure and the clinical effect of brain damage on cognitive impairment (Caramazza

However, the origins of this malformation were not investigated and it was not possible to
demonstrate that the patient was either born with it or if it developed later on.
Hence the importance of Wernicke s (1886) study, which strengthened Broca s (1866) findings. His
research on a stroke patient in 1873, found that although the patient did not present any lesion on
his speech and hearing function, he did not understand what was read to him or what was said

his first temporal gyrus in the left hemisphere of the brain. Wernicke with Broca, afterwards started
to study language function in the brain by observing patience with determinate brain injury.

Characteristics Of A Good Teacher
INTRODUCTION: What is teaching? Teaching is something many people desire to do in order
to help those learn with different teaching approaches. A lot of time is devoted to the what of
teaching and what areas we should we cover, what resources do we need and so on. The how of
teaching also gets a great deal of space and how to structure a lesson, manage classes, assess for
learningfor learning and so on. Do we ask the who question who is the self that teaches? How
does the quality of my selfhood form or deform the way I relate to my students, my subject, my
colleagues, my world? How can educational institutions sustain and deepen the selfhood from
which good teaching comes? Parker J. Palmer (1998: 4).
WHAT IS A GOOD TEACHER?: A good teacher is someone who focuses on students needs and
styles of learning. Every student has different way of learning. In my experience to become a
good teacher one must take the time to speak and observe their students. I always observe my
students when they are speaking. One thing I have learned is to always ask the students what
activity we will be doing in their own words. This way I can see if they understand and are paying
attention.
STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES: The first time I taught it was in front of a bunch of eighth
graders. I was shaking and not confident in the way I was conducting class. I had no idea how to
be a teacher or how to speak. When I came to this program I had a better understanding

Analysis Of The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari by Robert Wiene is a silent, black white horror film, which
emphasizes on the expression of inner thoughts and emotions through the control of stylistic
elements (Bordwell, 2000). It was a creative film movement that took off in the 1920s during a
period known as Weimar Germany (Foster, 2008). This period was between World War I and
World War II, where filmmakers were exploring juxtaposions of light and shadows to create a new
style of filmmaking , that have later inspired such cinematography seen in Film Noir (Foster, 2008).
German Expressionismis described as seeing beauty in imbalanced proportions , the sets used in
the film was constructed with the expressionist style (George, 1965). For instance, windows
walkways were not viewed in their original symmetric form but instead in unnatural shapes and
sizes. In terms of the characters, Dr. Caligari drives the plot throughout the film, alongside his
somnambulist, Cesare. The film primarily surrounds these two characters and how their actions
affect the decisions and lives of the other characters. However, it is obvious that Wiene
deliberately used complex architectures, settings and evil characters to frame such unique
elements to represent how set design could put expressionist painting and art to good use in film
(Bordwell, 2017). His creativity is also evident through his manipulation of light and shadows, a
lighting technique known as Chiarascuro lighting to contrast light and dark to create interesting
shadows (Bordwell, 2017). This is because Wienne s use of set design and mise en scene also
contribute to this expressionist feel. In addition, viewers also witness human like form to
nonhuman things, this can be seen by the examples of the tree branches or even the street lights
buildings themselves. However, its all purpose is to blend with the bizarre setting to display
straightforward messages to direct spectators (Bordwell, 2000). Due to these uncommon elements,
critics have praised the movie for its unique expressionistic style , it has become a profound
influence over other directors in Hollywood today, such as the notable Tim Burton, whose film,
Edward Scissorhands (1990), which had many similar

How Did The Stock Market Crash That Led Up To The Great...
People began buying things such as cars and appliances on credit. Many people earned less money
than needed to live a comfortable lifestyle. Businesses were letting people with lower incomes buy
things on credit. Unfortunately the stocks rose faster than the value of the companies they
represented. When the stock marketcollapsed, these people did not have the money to pay back
what they owed. This resulted in financial ruin. Before the stock market crash investors traded
about sixteen million shares on the New York stock exchange each day. After Black Tuesday ,
billions of dollars were lost wiping out thousands of investors. Had most of those investors sold
their stock the day before the crash, they would have received a large profit. The 1929 crash
uncovered another problem in the United States. The nations banking system was in trouble. In
the 1920 s thousands of new banks were opened, however, most lacked adequate money in
reserves. Between 1923 and 1929, banks across the country failed daily, but the general rising
prosperity hid these failures. The crash made a bad situation even worse, and banks failed at a
more rapid rate.

A Vindication Of The Dilemma Of Online Education
A Vindication of the Dilemma of Online Education
The Introduction of online education into the pool of academia has proven to be one of the biggest
triumphs since Mac n Cheese; its inception complementing this new age of technology. Be that as it
may, does this so called distance learning threaten the consistency, validity, and integrity of the
education system as a whole? While offering more convenience, does online learning unwittingly
create a hospitable terminal for slackers and a commodious e community for academic dishonesty?
Despite its advantages, online education is about as significant as a pocket on a suit jacket. To
suggest that online education is the equivalent of traditional, in class, learning would be a
diabolical misstatement of elephantine proportions. Online education, while offering more
flexibility and accessibility, has limited social and instructor interaction, requires mandatory self
discipline, and leaves too much leeway for dishonesty.
Generally speaking, one of the biggest challenges of online learning is the sense of isolation the
student must endure. Having limited social communication with classmates and virtually no direct
student teacher interaction, online students must make sense of bleak instructions for each
assignment on their own; and with no one there to guide the students through assignments, a
syllabus is their only companion. Also, with online education the bit of communication that does
take place between classmates and there

ABSTRACT In this paper , the problem of identification of masses or tumors in the Magnetic
Resonance Image (MRI) of Brain . Here a novel method of Power Law Transformation is
introduced on the Brain Image. The gamma value for the Brain Image is fixed as 1.5 and
thresholding is done. Thus the resulting binary image clearly separates any kind of tumors or a
mass present in the brain images, and makes the identification process easier. By exhaustive
experimentations it is found that the proposed algorithm is performs well than the literature. The
experimentations is done with the Virtual Skeleton Database (VSD) which is a brain tumor image
dataset obtained from Challenge on Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation with are the outcomes
of BRATS2012 and BRATS2013. It is reported that the tumor in the brain is identified correctly in
majority of cases and the efficiency of the proposed algorithm is 90% in case of normal images
and 82.51% in case of multimodal images.

I Am Writing With The Healing Process
Briana, I am writing this with the hopes that I may find closer. That I can find peace of mind I
have failed to discover while exploring other avenues of the healing process. Although I intend
to send this to you, I have no expectation of a reply. This is not an attempt to convince you of
anything. You are too intelligent and to stubborn to be persuaded by any words that I may
extract from my head. What I write is what I know or feel. I do not claim to understand what you
are going through. Nothing that I write is meant to hurt you or cause you any stress. My words are
only an expression of my own thoughts and feelings. As I have told you many times, I loveyou, and
I probably always will. Brief as our relationship was, the connection to you that I formed still
holds strong. I still feel as though you were struggling to convince yourself that you were over
me. A struggle that I believe you are still dealing with. This connection is what drove my actions
for the past several weeks. It is why I have held on so tight to a chance that we might come back
to each other. It is why I was so willing to look past all of the things that should have made me

Dissociative Disorder
Somatic and Dissociative Syndromes
Let us start by defining somatic symptom disorder, malingering, factitious disorder, and
dissociative disorders according to the DSM 5. A somatic symptom disorder is a disorder in which
persons become excessively distressed, concerned, and anxious, about bodily symptoms they are
experiencing. Malingering is intentionally faking to achieve some external gains, such as financial
compensation or military deferment. Factitious disorder is a disorder in which an individual feigns
or induces physical symptoms, typically for the purpose of assuming the role of a sick person. A
dissociative disorder is a disorder marked by major changes in memory that do not have clear
physical causes. Are all of these disorder legit? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mental disorder where an individual overthinks about his/her symptoms. Thoughts are harder
to control than physical actions in my opinion and this is a disorder that is brought up because of
thoughts and emotions. When discussing conversion disorder, a disorder in which medically
unexplained bodily symptoms affect voluntary motor and sensory functions, the emotions that are
so hard to get rid of actually induce physical symptoms. Our mind and bodies are connected more
than we think and this disorder proves it. I find this disorder difficult to question is legitimacy
because the symptoms are real. Even though the doctors cannot find physical causes, they can find
physical proof of the disorder.
The last disorder to discuss is dissociative disorder. A dissociative disorder is similar to a conversion
disorder in that there are no physical reasons for the symptoms but the symptoms are real. Even
though clinicians cannot find physical causes, there must be something that happens with patients
of this disorder because most of the time the disorder appears more than once in patients. Whether
there is a small biological defective or a mental mishap, there is something that happens to patients
that makes them adopt the symptoms of this

Global Marketing Campaigns For Multi National Brands
The key issue discussed within the article was about whether companies with brands that run across
countries should go global or localize their advertising campaigns for multi national brands. Global
marketing campaigns allow for brands to run the same marketing campaigns across many different
countries, utilizing the same creative with few changes across multiple regions of the world. Global
marketingcampaigns are very efficient because they allow for a single creative message to be
utilized which is cheaper and faster to produce, allows for easy media purchases, and is simpler to
traffic creative to different locations. In the case, the marketing team for Johnny Walker wanted to
utilize this global marketing method, by creating one commercial that could be run across multiple
countries with little to no variations to the creative in each market (only small changes would be
made, e.g. translating languages). The problem with global marketing campaigns is different
countries often have different interpretations of the creative, due to the unique cultural,
demographic, and economic situations they are surrounded by. This can lead audiences within one
country to be highly receptive to a message, and an audiences in another country to interpret it in a
different way. In the Johnny Walker example, they created one commercial that featured young men
doing different extreme and exciting adventures, showing that Johnny Walker empowered them to
do what they wanted in their lives.

Neonatal Hypoglycemia
Neonatal hypoglycemia is a global health problem and a preventable cause of neurological injury
in newborn period. Approximately 1/5th of neonates have a risk of being hypoglycemic. Some of
these infants fail to normalize their blood glucose by feeds alone and require intravenous (IV)
dextrose therapy. In our institution, IV dextrose therapy is offered in the neonatal intensive care
unit (NICU). This leads to separation of mother from baby and undue anxiety affecting bonding and
breastfeeding. Also leads to increased hospitalization costs. A large number of asymptomatic
neonates are screened for hypoglycemia due to well established relationship between prolonged
hypoglycemia and neurological impairment (1). Approximately 10% of these asymptomatic

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Essay Thesis
In the autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, by Anne Moody; Anne writes about
violence, racial discrimination, and white privileges in the text. Throughout her childhood and
adulthood Anne witnessed the murders, beatings, and major moments of civil rights
movements during her time in Mississippi. Anne`s narrative gives a vivid description of each
hopeless moment during her lifetime. Meanwhile, Moody experiences such despair that she
begins to question if Mississippi will ever overcome racial oppression. Thesis: In the text, Anne
Moody writes her last paragraph saying, We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome

This quote is directed towards the Emmet Till murder that happen in Mississippi. The boy

continues saying, See that boy was fourteen too. It`s a shame that he had to die so soon (Moody

Romans and Barbarians DBQ
According to the Romans nomads were considered to be barbarians, however over time Romans
began to develop nomadic customs which were no longer considered barbaric but civilized. To
the Romans a barbarian was anyone who was an outsider of their land, and in that case nomads
were considered to be barbaric. Nomads are known as a small group of people that don t have a
permanent settlement, and travel and migrate from place to place. Nomadic people also had a
different type of lifestyle from the Romans, for example the nomads hunted and gathered their

statements I would consider these actions to be barbaric based on the fact that it sounds more like
a surprise attack for war. I say this because they use the word conquer like they are going to go
over there, kill everyone and everything, and take over without any reason.
Based on what I ve read I don t believe that there is an honest yes or no answer to the question,
Can these nomads be called barbarians? According to Salvian, a Christian priest, he says, ..
almost all barbarians, at least those who are of one race and kin, love each other, while the
Romans persecute each other. However, many of these reads go into detail about the nomadic
people never sparing the people of which they conquered or went to war with, and killing them
all off one by one. As for the change over time; there was one. After the fall of Rome when the
nomadic people took over around 476 CE they kept the same Roman customs, but began
introducing nomadic ways of life that, over time, turned out to not be barbaric at all. Over the
course of many years you will see the Romans perspective of the nomads and their culture began to

Factors Of Imperialism In Nigeria
The people of Nigeria are divided into three ethnic groups the Hausa Fulani, the Yoruba, and the
Igbo. During imperialism, Nigeria was a colony of Great Britain and ruled by indirect control.
The Hausa Fulani would govern their region with their language and Islam religion. Whereas,
the other two regions in the south adopted Christianity and European ways and helped govern
their own regions. When Britain decided to withdraw from the colony in 1960, they set up a
Nigerian Federal State with a central government and separate governments for each of the three
regions. The Niger River Delta region was rich in mineral oil deposits and they also produced
palm oil, coffee, and tin for export. The economy of the new nation was largely dependent on
selling oil production leases to foreign companies and money earned from export of oil. Since,
each region had its own government, the politicians were focused on channeling the wealth from
the sale of oil into their own region so as to benefit themselves, their followers and their own
regions. This gave rise to competition, greed for oil money and corruption among politicians. The
party in power at the central government controlled the oil leases, the import licenses, the
construction job projects, and the government jobs. They also got the bribes from giving out these
contracts. When, the first national election happened in 1964, the political parties used bribery,
rigging of votes and violence to win and gain

Harmful Effects Of Machiavellian Advertising
As accessibility to and the advancement of the new media increases, our control over what we
choose to see to decreases exponentially. Although advertisements do not seem to manifest harmful
effects, many advertisers use Machiavellian tactics to sway the opinions of people. Such tactics
include: clickbait, which makes use of targeting the curiosity of viewers to simply clickon a specific
link or video, and data mining, the tracking of recent searches to show advertisements specific to
what the robots claim to be one s interests. These techniques used are implemented to evoke the
specific interests of the consumer, making pure curiosity in control of what the reader is paying
attention to.
Clickbait uses persuasive and absorbing headlines and images to allows readers to quickly
browse through the content on a website and choose what they want to see. However, much of
this content that uses clickbait is false information so advertisers can get the views and shares
they desire. Wu mentions the power of clickbait, the technique that started attentional capture
online. This attention grabbing idea started on accident with a dispute with Nike. While Nike
was promoting their new personalized Nike iD, a customer named Jonah Peretti received an

Civil Rights And Social Movements
Civil rights and Social Movements in the Americas
Civil rights are the rights of individuals to be treated equally and free from discrimination. It allows
others to be free from these unfair treatments in many different settings such as one s education,
employment, and housing. Originally, the term Civil Rights referred to the efforts of achieving
equality for African Americans in all settings. However, today the term is used for all people
whether they are black, white, women, or men. It would also include Native Americans, African
Americans, and Feminists to be justly treated.
Native Americans in Canada, Latin America and United Stateswere first truly encountered in the
early to mid 1940s. Prior to this the United States passed the Indian Act in 1876, this prohibited
voting, and Native Americans weren t allowed to drink or wander off their reservation without
permission. Although American Indians were indigenous to the Americas, they soon became one
of many minorities in their own home. Native Americans are a diverse group with hundreds of
different tribes. The American Indian s struggle for civil rights began almost as soon as colonists
set foot in the Americas. After the forefathers established the United States of America, the natives
were denied their basic civil rights for several years. Although they didn t have a fighting period
like the African American s civil rights movement, they still took measures to achieve their equal
rights.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Given the recent closures of Future Shop stores across Canada, there is significant uncertainty
facing customers, employees, suppliers, and landlords. Customers will have concerns regarding gift
cards, product returns, and warranties. The challenges of dealing with employees include
addressing termination packages, retaining the best personnel, and transitioning Future Shop
employees from a commissioned pay plan to a salaried structure. Suppliers concerns will stem
from goods transported to Future Shop on trade credit, and the loss of future business. Landlords
will be concerned with the status of their lease agreements with Future Shop. Also, the decision on
whether to amalgamate or wind down Future Shop operations will be of utmost importance. Our
team has done extensive research into the failures of Target, and is best suited to help Best Buy
navigate through this delicate transition period. This report analyzes the concerns that Best Buy
will face, and addresses them from a behavioural and legal perspective. In order to maximize the
benefits and limit the risk, our analysis indicates that Best Buy should wind down Future Shop
operations and maintain it as an inactive company.

the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, also known as the 17th parallel, which was established as a

the South was governed by Bao Dai. 2 years later, in 1956, elections to make Vietnam unified again

All of these civilizations came and went at different times throughout the duration of Bronze
Age Greece. All of them were drastically important in maintaining the great power of the area
during a time of such havoc and turmoil. Much like anything in life, all good things must come
to an end eventually. The Bronze Age Greece almost completely fell by 146BC. There are a
number of different reasons why the collapse of the Bronze Age Greece occurred. In the
following sections we will discuss several reasons for the collapse of this once great society.
Possibly the most important cause for the fall of the Golden Age Greece was the Battle of
Corinth. It occurred in 146BC and officially marked the complete fall of the Greek resistance
against the Roman Republic. This was such a destructive turning point for Greece because the
city of Corinth possessed masses of wealth. It was a main hub of activity and politics for the
Greece civilization. The battle occurred during a time when the Roman Republic sought to
overtake Greece and all of its corresponding states. Rome had been proving its great military
strength and superiority to neighboring nations previous to the Battle of Corinth. This period
outlines the fall of the Greece nation and the rise of the Roman Republic. Corinth was one of the
most powerful at that time. After the battle, the rest of Greece fell to the Romans as well. The

War Vs War
Conflict vs War
War is a conflict, but conflict doesn t have to a war. Conflict is often seen as a war or a huge
political disagreement. It can be that, but it can be as simple as arguing with a neighbor over
property lines. War on the other hand is a declared, ended, and often with governments and
militaries. Conflict can be war, but most conflicts are petty arguments over small things whereas
wars are massive military attacks on nations, countries, or states. Although they both have at least
two sides they are two astronomically different things. Just as mint chocolate chip is ice cream, but
all ice cream isn t mint chocolate chip.

A Short Note On A Polymerase Chain Reaction ( Pcr ) Essay
My longest ongoing project began in October 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Daniela Vergara, a
postdoctoral researcher of the CGRI. Dr. Vergara guided another undergraduate student and me
to troubleshoot a protocol for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The objective of improving
this protocol was to analyze phylogenetic relationships between local samples by amplifying and
comparing a region of Tetrahydrocannabinol Acid (THCA) Synthase Gene. My colleague and I
had applied for the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant, which funded our
research and allowed us to ascertain a successful protocol for this PCR and sequence the
amplified region of THCA Synthase Gene. However, near the end of our project, we learned
another university s research team published nearly the same work we were performing, which
encouraged us to further our research before publishing. As new data became available, we
observed eleven copies of the THCA Synthase Gene, which provided our research with a new
goal to develop novel primer sets for each unique copy. My colleague and I each developed a
novel set of primers and protocols associated with those primers, which has allowed us to map the
phylogeny through the variation of these genes. Continuing to develop this research, we are
analyzing possible correlations between the variations of a certain paralogs in relation to the
phenotype or physical traits of the plant. We plan to publish the phylogenetic relationships we

becoming more and more popular. Employees need to know what is the benefit of having
employment based medical insurance, when and if they are eligible, and they need to understand

As of 2011, the average amount paid by an employee for a single coverage plan is 921 dollars and
the average amount paid by the employer is 4,508 dollars. The average amount paid by and
employee for a family plan would be 4,129 dollars and the average amount paid by the employer
would be 10,944 dollars (Milkovich).
Medical insurance premiums could increase, based on different trends in the prices and costs of
different health services. Health care costs have risen by about 430 percent since 1984 for a
number of reasons. Some of the reasons that lead to higher costs of health care includes: longer
life expectancies, aging of the baby boom era individuals, and the prolong lives of the terminally
ill (Martocchio). There are also a number of other reasons that have caused higher costs for health
care and one of the biggest in my opinion would be the abuse of health care. Sometimes some
people will go to the hospital when they only have a cold, this causes longer waits and higher costs
due to a high demand.
There are a few things that employees should know about their medical insurance plan.
Employees should know how much the employer is paying on their premiums and if there is a
copay for certain visits. They also should know whether or not their plan covers prescriptions
drugs, if so how much. A lot of employees would like to have their families added to their plans,

Chemical Reaction On Energy And Carbon
Preliminary Chemistry Assessment Task 3
Research Energy and Carbon
Energy:
Photosynthesis can be considered the most important chemical reaction on Earth. Most life on
Earth is maintained using energy stored in the carbohydrate glucose produced by photosynthesis.
Green plants contain chlorophylls, pigments, which have the ability to trap light energy. The
trapped light energy is changed into chemical energy, which is stored in carbohydrates such as
glucose (C6H12O6). Photosynthesis means building up, synthesis, and using light, photo. The raw
materials for this process are carbon dioxide (CO2) gas from the atmosphere, and liquid water
(H2O) obtained through the roots of land plants. A by product of this process is oxygen (O2) gas,

All animals (including us humans) ultimately depend on plant material either directly or indirectly
through their herbivore prey. On top of that, all animals require the oxygen released by plants.
Without continual photosynthesis, the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere would slowly diminish.
How fossil fuels were formed:
Contrary to what many people believe, fossil fuels are not the remains of dead dinosaurs. In fact,
most of the fossil fuels we find today were formed millions of years before the first dinosaurs.
Fossil fuels, however, were once alive. They were formed from prehistoric plants and animals that
lived hundreds of millions of years ago.
Think about what the Earth must have looked like 300 million years or so ago. The land masses
we live on today were just forming. There were swamps and bogs everywhere. The climate was
warmer. Ancient trees and plants grew everywhere. Strange looking animals walked on the land,
and just as weird looking fish swam in the rivers and seas. Tiny one celled organisms called
protoplankton floated in the ocean.
When these ancient living things died, they decomposed and became buried under layers and
layers of mud, rock, and sand. Eventually, hundreds and sometimes thousands of feet of earth
covered them. In some areas, the decomposing materials were covered by ancient seas, then the
seas dried up and receded.

welfare policies that created foundational structures of current social welfare practice. The
practice of social welfare traces back to English heritage spanning back to a time when English
policies operated in British colonies (Guest, 1997). English policies such as the Elizabethan Poor
Laws of 1594 and 1601 and the 1662 Law of Settlement and Removal defined human service and
social welfare in England and her colonies (Ascoli Cnaan, 1997). In the same... Show more content

In addition, the paper also analyzes the net gains and losses of these trends to the society. One of
the profound historical trends in regards to human service was the English poor laws that
governed the treatment of the poor. Following the enactment of the Elizabethan poor laws in
1601, the English embarked on an entirely new approach of dealing with the poor in the society.
While the poor laws appeared harsh in England and colonial in English colonies, these laws
defined policies that spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor
in society. Essentially, the concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by
the pool laws defined a human service structure that still informs the current practice of social
welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare
consisted of voluntary subscription to a poor relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh
punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars (Guest, 1997). This practice related to a general
assumption that paupers or rather the poor suffered from moral deficiency that render them poor
and dependent (Hasenfeld Garrow, 2012). In this regard, the treatment of the poor was most often
than not harsh. The Elizabethan poor laws however ushered in a new dispensation that resumed full
public responsibility for the poor and the destitute in the society. The establishment of a public tax
supported system aimed at providing

A Brief Note On Financial Derivatives
Financial Derivatives Introduction Derivatives are financial instruments whose values are derived
from the values of other, more basic, entities, known as the underlying assets. For example, the
value of a stock option depends on the price of the relevant stock. Derivatives Markets In the
financial markets derivatives are traded on: п‚—Stocks п‚—Stock indices п‚—Exchange rates
п‚—Interest rates п‚—Bonds п‚—Credit risk п‚—Commodities (such as electricity, wheat, oil) [4]
Derivatives are traded in two different ways they are traded either on an exchange or over the
counter (OTC). The advantage of trading derivatives on an exchange is that the contracts are
standardized by the exchange and credit risk is eliminated. Open outcry system was used... Show

Answer: Simultaneously buying 100 shares in NY and selling them in London leads to a risk
free profit of: 100 x [($2.03 x100) $200] = $300 (ignoring transaction costs) Can this arbitrage
opportunity last for long? Futures A future is an exchange traded contract between two parties
and the clearinghouse of a futures exchange to buy or sell a commodity whose quantity and
quality are determined in the contract at a specified price on a certain date in the future. [1] When
there are alternatives about what is delivered, where it is delivered, and when it is delivered, the
party with the short position chooses. [4] The clearinghouse responsibility is to ensure for the
transaction to be completed. Futures markets are organized so that the risk of default is completely
eliminated. This is possible by trading futures contracts on an organized exchange with a
clearinghouse which steps in between a buyer and a seller this means that every trader in the
futures markets has obligations only to the clearinghouse. [1] The party that has agreed to buy the
underlying asset has what is termed a long position The party that

Death Of A Salesman Play Analysis
On February 10, 1949, Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman premiered for the first time at the
Morosco Theatre in New York, NY. Initial reviews were positive, and the play was described as a
notable piece of stagecraft . Ever since, there have been thousands of productions of Miller s
famous play, including a recent production at the Ethel Barrymore Theatrein 2012. However, this
production did not garner the same successes as its predecessors, despite the production was
intended to become a revival of the play, with a fresh interpretation. In his article, Erik Haagensen
analyzes Mike Nichols2012 production of Death of a Salesman, particularly how it fails to revive
the play due to poor casting.

Haagensen compliments Wittrock s ability to find the balance between Happy s flirtatious,
superficial side and his zealous, family oriented side. Haagensen laments that Wittrock would
have been a much better Biff than Garfield. Portraying Linda Loman is none other than Linda
Emond, who challenges how audiences have previously perceived Linda Loman. Rather than the
submissive wife, Emond portrays Linda as a fiery mother who goes toe to toe with her husband
and children. Haagensen suggests that while she gives a strong performance, certain choices in
delivery make some moments fall flat. Another character Haagensen makes note of is Willy s
dead brother Ben, played by John Glover. The character, which is presented as a figment of Willy s
mind, is portrayed by Glover with ...a heightened energy that transcends naturalism (Haagensen 18).
Haagensen claims the production has both positive casting choices, but also very negative ones.
However, to him, the negatives far outweigh the positives. In Haagensen s review, the casting
choices made by Nichols singlehandedly stifle the potential of his

Effectiveness of the Federal Reserve in Stabilizing the...
Evaluate the role and the effectiveness of the Federal Reserve in stabilizing the current economy.
The role of the Federal Bank is to manage the nation s monetary system. It does so by three
different methods:
It can change the interest rate on money that it lends to banks. A higher interest rate makes money
more expensive. Banks may be, therefore, more reluctant to sign loans to applicants. On the other
hand, the Bank by lowering interest rates can encourage banks to more readily lend loans.
The Federal Reserve has the authority to change reserve requirements. (I.e. the percentage that
banks have to store in their vaults that represent their total HYPERLINK http://www.blurtit.com
/q717809.html loan portfolio). By the Federal Reserve lowering their requirement for money that
banks have to store in their vaults), banks can be more liberal with their loans.
The Federal Reserve controls the money supply. This, in turn, has an impact on inflation and interest
rates. In other words, when inflation is high, the FR reduces money supply, and increases the
money supply when there is poor economic growth and the economy needs it (Mishkin, 2007)
The FR s most recent attempts to stabilizing the economy veer towards supporting housing and
helping growth of employment. The problems right now in the housing market are that there are
too tight lending rules and racial discrimination. The FR, consequently, decided to take certain steps
which would include:
Easing monetary policy by

In college, your friend becomes your support group and later own your second family. I would have
inspirational quotes around the floor about choosing wisely, and how to be a good friend. To
promote roommate unity, I would have a scavenger hunt in which the residents pair with their
roommates, and explore the entire campus together checking off checkpoints along the way; which
would build trust and hopefully a sense of team and connectivity. At the end of the scavenger hunt,
the whole floor would be able to have a picnic behind the bell tower. Throughout the semester I
would promote roommate unity with late night study runs, trust workshops, and, communication

In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks, buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully, the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would be comparable to drilling oil ... • 7. The Most Monumental Undertaking Of Modern Philosophy Control is an often acknowledged concept in ancient philosophy, discussed by the likes of Epicurus and Epictetus, among others. Often, control is articulated in regards to one s relationship with others and their personal actions. Though the amount of things one can personally control is limited, these things are paramount and essential for living a life that is at peace and that is tranquil. I will be arguing that one s choices/actions are the most monumental undertaking of which can be controlled, and is the ultimate contributor to happiness and equanimity. This state, known as ataraxia , should be used as a constant guidance and reminder, perpetuated by virtue, of which decisions are correct or incorrect. Ataraxia may be characterized as a state containing balanced contentment and repose, particularly of the mental variety. Though many philosophers, including Epicurus, Epictetus, and Sextus Empiricus address this said state of unperturbed ness, their interpretations of how to reach ataraxia differ slightly, though all may be applied to my argument. In his The Skeptic Way, Sextus Empiricus discusses the process of achievement of ataraxia through differentiating between natural goods and bads. When one accepts that what is good and bad cannot be distinguished definitely, they must choose whether to continue pursuit of this inquiry or accept an always indefinite solution. This choice determines the path traveled either to tranquility or agitation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption. Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.). Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%) with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.). WHAT IS A GOOD TEACHER?: A good teacher is someone who focuses on students needs and styles of learning. Every student has different way of learning. In my experience to become a good teacher one must take the time to speak and observe their students. I always observe my students when they are speaking. One thing I have learned is to always ask the students what activity we will be doing in their own words. This way I can see if they understand and are paying attention. • 14. Analysis Of The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari The Cabinet of Dr Caligari by Robert Wiene is a silent, black white horror film, which emphasizes on the expression of inner thoughts and emotions through the control of stylistic elements (Bordwell, 2000). It was a creative film movement that took off in the 1920s during a period known as Weimar Germany (Foster, 2008). This period was between World War I and World War II, where filmmakers were exploring juxtaposions of light and shadows to create a new style of filmmaking , that have later inspired such cinematography seen in Film Noir (Foster, 2008). German Expressionismis described as seeing beauty in imbalanced proportions , the sets used in the film was constructed with the expressionist style (George, 1965). For instance, windows walkways were not viewed in their original symmetric form but instead in unnatural shapes and sizes. In terms of the characters, Dr. Caligari drives the plot throughout the film, alongside his somnambulist, Cesare. The film primarily surrounds these two characters and how their actions affect the decisions and lives of the other characters. However, it is obvious that Wiene deliberately used complex architectures, settings and evil characters to frame such unique elements to represent how set design could put expressionist painting and art to good use in film (Bordwell, 2017). His creativity is also evident through his manipulation of light and shadows, a lighting technique known as Chiarascuro lighting to contrast light and dark to create interesting shadows (Bordwell, 2017). This is because Wienne s use of set design and mise en scene also contribute to this expressionist feel. In addition, viewers also witness human like form to nonhuman things, this can be seen by the examples of the tree branches or even the street lights buildings themselves. However, its all purpose is to blend with the bizarre setting to display straightforward messages to direct spectators (Bordwell, 2000). Due to these uncommon elements, critics have praised the movie for its unique expressionistic style , it has become a profound influence over other directors in Hollywood today, such as the notable Tim Burton, whose film, Edward Scissorhands (1990), which had many similar ... A Vindication Of The Dilemma Of Online Education A Vindication of the Dilemma of Online Education The Introduction of online education into the pool of academia has proven to be one of the biggest triumphs since Mac n Cheese; its inception complementing this new age of technology. Be that as it may, does this so called distance learning threaten the consistency, validity, and integrity of the education system as a whole? Despite its advantages, online education is about as significant as a pocket on a suit jacket. To suggest that online education is the equivalent of traditional, in class, learning would be a diabolical misstatement of elephantine proportions. Online education, while offering more flexibility and accessibility, has limited social and instructor interaction, requires mandatory self discipline, and leaves too much leeway for dishonesty. Global marketing campaigns allow for brands to run the same marketing campaigns across many different countries, utilizing the same creative with few changes across multiple regions of the world. In the case, the marketing team for Johnny Walker wanted to utilize this global marketing method, by creating one commercial that could be run across multiple countries with little to no variations to the creative in each market (only small changes would be made, e.g. translating languages). The problem with global marketing campaigns is different countries often have different interpretations of the creative, due to the unique cultural, demographic, and economic situations they are surrounded by. Approximately 1/5th of neonates have a risk of being hypoglycemic. Some of these infants fail to normalize their blood glucose by feeds alone and require intravenous (IV) dextrose therapy. In our institution, IV dextrose therapy is offered in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This leads to separation of mother from baby and undue anxiety affecting bonding and breastfeeding. Also leads to increased hospitalization costs. Whereas, the other two regions in the south adopted Christianity and European ways and helped govern their own regions. When Britain decided to withdraw from the colony in 1960, they set up a Nigerian Federal State with a central government and separate governments for each of the three regions. Since, each region had its own government, the politicians were focused on channeling the wealth from the sale of oil into their own region so as to benefit themselves, their followers and their own regions. This gave rise to competition, greed for oil money and corruption among politicians. The party in power at the central government controlled the oil leases, the import licenses, the construction job projects, and the government jobs. While the poor laws appeared harsh in England and colonial in English colonies, these laws defined policies that spearheaded action in human service in regards to the treatment of the poor in society. Essentially, the concepts, ideologies, policies, approaches, and discourse provided by the pool laws defined a human service structure that still informs the current practice of social welfare (Carniol, 2005). Prior to the Elizabethan poor laws, the practice of social welfare consisted of voluntary subscription to a poor relief fund by the poor coupled with the use of harsh punishment to discourage vagabonds and beggars (Guest, 1997).
