The Fallibility Of Human Reason In The Kite Runner
The fallibility of human reason is critical within the novel, and most pronounced in the eventually
fatal decision of letting the goat herders go without consequence. Twenty minutes prior, Luttrell and
his mates were moving through the Afghani mountain range, looking for the optimal surveillance
position, they could have never predicted or trained for Afghani goatherders, two adults, one boy,
and approximately one hundred goats, to stumble upon their position. A situation such as this is
precisely what Talib called a black swan, in his book titled after the term, a truly impossible to
predict occurrence. After deliberating amongst themselves, they decided against killing the three, as
Luttrell s Christian beliefs, and his great fear of the liberal media backlash prevented him. Because

What if they tied them to trees and left them there? What if they threw them off of the cliff ledge
that would assuredly kill them? There are an infinite number of possibilities, and an equally
infinite number of outcomes. Neither the reader, nor can Luttrell ever know the answers to these
questions. However, a famous 20th century physicist devised a thought experiment to explain a
predicament such as this. Erwin Schrodinger, a famous Austrian theoretical physicist, devised a
thought experiment to illuminate the faults in quantum theory, a new proposition in physics at
the time. The experiment goes like this: a cat is placed in a closed box with radioactive material,
a Geiger counter, a hammer, a glass flask of poisonous gas, and a timer set for one hour. At the
hour mark, the radioactive material has exactly a 50/50 chance of emitting a particle (radioactive
decay). If so, the hammer will be released, smashing the flask of poison, and killing the

The Element Magnesium
Although we know that Magnesium was discovered in 1755, the scientist that discovered it is still
disputed today. One source reveals, the first person to recognize that magnesium was an element
was Joseph Black at Edinburgh (Magnesium). But others accredit Sir Humphry Davy an English
chemist, through the electrolysis of a mixture (The Element Magnesium). While the chemist may
not be decided on, magnesium has become a very effective substance through history. Magnesium
is the lightest metal that can be used to build things, although its use as a structural material is
limited since it burns at relatively low temperatures (The Element Magnesium). This became a
large benefit to the Germans in WWII. Magnesium aluminum alloys are used where strong,
lightweight materials are required, such as in airplanes, missiles, and rockets (The Element
Magnesium). Magnesium can be located on the far left side of the periodic table. It classified
under the Alakine Earth Metal family and it is also grouped as a metal (The Element Magnesium).

different useful tools. Together magnesium sulfate is used as a mordant for dyes, and magnesium

field that you are working in and you are never too old to learn new stuff. It will show his officers
that he is trying to learn what he can do so he can do the job to the best that he can.
SGT. Walsh should interview each officer within the first month after he gets his new
assignment. The interview with each officer will be a good then the officers will now that I can
do the job. Therefore, he can get to know me and I can get to know them and how they do their
job and he can find out what they expect of me and they can find out what SGT. Walsh will expect
of them this will be done on a one on one basis.
The topics that SGT. Walsh should discuss with each officer on a one on one with each officer is
what you think that we can do as a tem to help out in the community that you are working in to help
people that live there.
The way SGT. Walsh should make this work place meaningful to the officers he will make it fun
for them to come back and work and that they will be able to do their best at what they do.

Environmental Concerns And Climate Change
Proposed Research
Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power
industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from
renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro
and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This
makes them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation
around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved
reliability, where the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous
potential for hydro and wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on

This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind
integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and
solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting
reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6].
Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control
techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks,
proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems,
have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques
include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3].
These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies
optimization an imperative research endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control
and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in
interconnected power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing
authority shall achieve, as a minimum, CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation

Mobile Phones And The Cell Phone Industry
Introduction The cell phone industry, like the internet, is one of the fastest and ever developing
industries. Since 1994, the production of cell phones has increased from 24 million to 182 million
in wireless phone apparatuses. With 162 million established cell phone users in the United States
the cell phone market is rapidly increasing . This rapid increase is due to the current and ongoing
development of technology and innovation in perfecting the cell phone. Throughout the history of
the cell phone industries collaborations have arose in order to stay lucrative in the fast changing
field. Worldwide wireless companies have been compelled to collaborate. This collaboration is due
to a wide array of reasons that all relate to the firm s attempts to stay lucrative. Wireless companies
have the tendency to acquire market share via both products and accessories. When these
companies merge they can then share their markets and products and offer a superior service.
Without working together smaller wireless companies at times fall victim to what is known as
predation. Therefore, collaboration is necessary within the cell phone industry to maintain profits
and increase assets. One of the ways that cell phone companies maintain profits and increase assets
is through the addition of new and emerging technologies to cell phones. Considering that
computers and the Internet are highly sought after, the wireless companies incorporate access to
fast speed Internet through their

Occupational Licenses
Imagine a world with no competition, no entrepreneurs entering a market and opening up jobs to
the public while providing benefits to consumers in the process. The market would suffer
immensely without competition and instead of more benefits being provided, prices for the goods
and services provided by that market will increase. Occupational licenses are an example of how
entrepreneurs could be driven out, thus keeping out any competition and driving up prices instead
of providing benefits. Occupational licenses create a barrier from entering a market and if the
license requirements are truly outrageous, less entrepreneurs will be inclined to enter the field. For
example, the state of Rhode Island is one of forty states who require an occupational... Show more

Consumers will be given more choices to choose from and the prices for heating and air
conditioning will be sure to drop because of the increase in competition. More choices is a
positive for consumers because it means there will be a greater chance of them being able to find
a contractor who fits their needs well. By eliminating the occupational license, aspiring HVAC
contractors who couldn t gain a license for whatever reason will also gain from it. They will be
able to enter the market without worrying about extra costs or time spent training that needs to be
fulfilled to obtain a license. They can enter freely, after possibly going through some schooling, and
they will compete with other HVAC contractors, which in return benefits consumers by offering
them lower prices and more options to choose from. Everyone needs heating and air conditioning in
their homes or buildings in order to live comfortably. Without an occupational license or even
lessening the requirements to obtain one will benefit consumers and allow them to live even more
comfortably. There should be no reason that consumers must pay more to live comfortably in their
homes, so there should be no reason that HVAC contractors must have to obtain an occupational
license after fulfilling tedious and unnecessary

The Real Protagonist: Caesar or Brutus Who is really the protagonist of the play, Caesar or
Brutus? A protagonist is the leading character, hero of a drama or other literary work who
involved in a conflict. In this case, either Brutus or Caesar will be the protagonist. Brutus is a tragic
hero who dies at the end of the play. And a tragic hero is the protagonist of a tragedy. Therefore,
Brutus is the real protagonist of Julius Caesar because he is a tragic hero; he affects the plot
through decision making; and he is the champion of the conflict between Caesar and conspirators.
The first reason for Brutus being the real protagonist is that he is a tragic hero who is the
protagonist of a tragedy. Tragic hero is a hero who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The play can be performed with Caesar almost totally eclipsed by Brutus part (Paolucci).
Compare to Caesar, Brutus earns the more important influences to the play. As the leader of the
conspirators, Brutus makes lots of decisions for himself, the conspirators and Rome. For
example, He decides to be a proponent who against Caesar and he decides not to kill Antony and
let Antony speech in Caesar s funeral. Brutus decisions are the key to move the play to the next
stage. Though most decisions are flaws of Brutus, these decisions are the main causes of the
plots in the play. For example, Brutus insists that their armed forces leave their hilly territory
where they have the military advantage, and lead the attack on the enemy at Phillipi on level
ground. The decision is disastrous and victory for the enemy is relatively easy (Cotham). This
decision is one of three bad decisions Brutus makes in the play and a main cause of Brutus death.
Brutus makes many similar decisions in the play that are the main reasons of future events and is
the trail of play, so he is the real

Logical Fallacies In Carleen Turner s Letter
Logical Fallacies: Carleen Turner letter
In her letter, Carleen Turner is telling about her son, Brock Turner and asks the judge to be kind
and merciful to her son. It is obvious that Carleen Turner was writing the letter with the strong
emotions, and the emotions in the letter are much stronger than a logical constituent. The first
logical fallacy, begging the claim, one can see at the beginning of the letter. Carleen Turner is
writing to the judge that she want to introduce you to my son, Brock Turner the REAL Brock
Allen Turner (Turner 1). The emotional story of the mother who evidently will try to show her son
from the better side hardly will show the more real figure of Brock Turner than the materials of the
case that shows him from the different sides and which the judge obviously have seen. However,
Carleen Turner is not trying to prove in any way that her describing of Brock Turner is real, she just
validates it within the claim, and that undermining her argument because she is not showing the real
Brock Turner but only her view of him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

talent and ability of a person. This facility undermined the part of the main argument in the letter
that Brock Turner is a nice person who does not deserve punishment and being in prison. The fact
that Brock Turner could not play negative character did not confirm that he is a nice person, it only
shows that he could not play

Jap The Meiji Restoration In Medieval Japan
The Meiji Restoration was a timeline of events all leading up to the change of Japan. It had military,
social, cultural and economical changes that evolved Japan to become a world power. This Meiji
Restoration timeline of events occurred from 1868 until 1912 and was a very influential and
important time for medieval Japan. The ruler during this period, Emperor Meiji, changed the entire
way that Japan was run and how the people were led and influenced. Japan gradually became an
overall world power with the events that were implemented during this period. The Economy
changed during the Meiji period due to the government investing money into public works such as
railways, communication, shipping, ports and lighthouses. The Meiji leaders also invested money
into a high percentage of national revenue in importing Western technology and expertise in setting

in the global trade and economic plate by fully integrating themselves by becoming members of all
major world economic organizations like: WTO; UN; G 20; UNFCCC.

Symbolic Perspective Paper
Symbolic Perspective The culture of an institutions is highly tied to the symbolic leadership
(Bolman Gallos, 2011; Tull Freeman, 2011). Bolman and Gallos (2011) write a duty of leaders is to
appreciate the power of a strong and coherent institutional culture and their role and responsibilities
in creating and sustaining that culture (p. 125). Symbolic leaders view their responsibility to tell
the institutional history/stories, set the vision for the future, as well as use ceremony, rituals, and
symbols to capture the attention of others to frame the image/meaning of the university(Bolman

An essential element of the symbolic prospective is knowing the institutions past, often done
through telling stories. It is through these stories that one can infer the culture and shred
experiences of the constituents of the institution. There is a lack of story telling though on a wider
scale at this university. Colleagues share their stories informal and there has been resent efforts to
better use alumni for this purpose, but there is not a systematic means to coordinate these efforts.
The availability of technology though opens up great possibilities to address this concern.
Possibilities could include providing increase opportunities to share the stories of graduate or
upperclassmen through video conferencing. As previously discussed the relatively short life span
for students at the basic science campus prevents an understanding of the growth that has occurred.

Japan s Experience Of Defeat And Occupation At The End Of...
Japan s experience of defeat and occupation at the end of the Second World War has most
commonly been examined from the point of view of the conquerors. It has rarely been tackled as
a Japanese experience. John Dower attempts to understand the hopes, visions and dreams of the
defeated Japanese as they sought to remake their identity and values in the after the war. Dower
examines an array of responses from the Japanese perspective to find out how they are feeling after
the war. Dower places the Japanese against the background of an American Occupation which was
at once high minded and visionary, arrogant and imperialist. Dower tackles this theme through two
narratives. The first is a dense socio cultural history, focused on the first two... Show more content

Secondly as an observer, he maintains a deep sympathy for his subjects while still preserving an
appropriately sharp and critical moral sense as he navigates through their stories. Dower s
cultural history begins with the anguish of physically and materially shattered lives at war s
end. The shock, devastation, exhaustion and despair are listed to provide the reader a detailed
narration of the events. The depth of loss and confusion which the Japanese people experienced
is vividly conveyed, notably in Dower s accounts of the huge scale of social displacement and
missing persons, and the long drawn out period of food droughts. Against this background of
economic and social misery, however, Dower is also concerned to locate the effects of defeat on
the Japanese people. Even in the pits of despair, people were reshaping their future identity and
discovering new aspirations. Dower tackles this at three levels. First, he investigates the
subcultures of defeat. The world of prostitution under the Occupation, for example was
simultaneously an area of sexual exploitation and a channel for the growth of interracial affection
and the undermining of old racial stereotypes. It was a symbol of national shame and a conduit for
new American values of luxury, and materialism that were eagerly embraced. Likewise, the black
markets were both explosions of entrepreneurial energy and a site for violent criminal gangs. And a

Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society
1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the
reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how
it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety
of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought
process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but
society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is
our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world
building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting
with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape
society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language.
Internalization is man using the structures of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and
opinions. These all maintain a stable society with a similar reality.... Show more content on

Nomos a meaningful order (Berger 19). Nomos is society establishing order for individuals.
This brings the people closer together because they are required to know the rules that they must

most individuals in society because they fear isolation. It is easier for people to belong to a

Why I Chose College
Looking at college make me want to jump around and be all happy because I will get out of high
school and I get to live by myself. I know I won t be happy when the time comes and I have to pay
my loans and go to school and learn in a more rigorous way. Will I be able to choose what schools
are right for me and know what kind of school it is or will I have to go to collegewith no knowledge
of the college that I chose. Instead of going in blind I researched the top colleges that I would want
to go to at the end of high school.
The five things that I want most in a college is the cost. The amount of money will help
determine what school for me I want to go to after high school. Also the entrance requirements
and acceptance rate. I don t want to go to a school that has a low acceptance rate and a high
requirement. Next, I want to get any scholarships, loans, and grants, so I don t have to pay so
much money to go to college. Next, I see how smart the school is. I don t want to go to a school
that has a very low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Perception Of A Social Group
The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or collective action is
key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not
only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society
will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as
framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read
from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that
it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and
need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and
finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point
highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any
given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does
collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is
the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow
and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a
response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be
a framing of a situation as problematic and

The Relationship Between Axioms And Practical Principles...
The Relationship between Axioms and Practical Principles of Religion
After introducing the axioms of Islam and finding faith in them, the next step in this life changing
journey is to accomplish certain commands as a result of those beliefs which will lead us to a life
of eternal satisfaction and bliss. Now one might wonder, what relates those fundamental principles
or axioms i.e. Monotheism (Tawhid) [1], Prophethood (Nubuwwah), and Afterlife (Ma ad) to
practical principles of religion? Are they even related? If yes, how is this relationship justified?
What comes next will hopefully provide an answer to these questions.

Prayer (Salat): The performance of the daily prayer five times a day with specific form.
Fasting (Sawm): The act of voluntarily preventing oneself from eating and drinking during a
particular part of the day from the time of Dawn Prayer (Salat al Fajr) until Dusk prayer(Salat al
Maghrib).
The Holy Pilgrimage (Hajj): An annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, and a mandatory religious
duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by those who are physically
and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and can support their family during their
absence.
Alms tax (Zakat): Paying an exact amount of money that has become obligatory through the rules
of Sharia in order to be used in favor of the people in need or for certain beneficial deeds in society.
Khums: A money proportional to one fifth that every person should pay based on some certain
criteria.
The Holy Struggle (Jihad): Technically, a special kind of attempt, which includes sacrificing one s
life and property primarily for the sake of Allah, elevating and sustaining Islamic beliefs and

Weekly Writing 3
Throughout history, American society has famously taken advantage of non European cultures and
traditions for their own entertainment. Major media companies, colleges, and athletic organizations
have famously exploited the cultures and stereotypes of Native American s and African Americans
for the sole purpose of profit and increased entertainment value. In American society, there has been
the era of Blaxploitation films in which African Americans society was shown through raunchy
and low budget films. Sports teams, colleges, and public schools have turned Native Americans
into an irresponsible excuse of a mascot the can offend and can be considered disrespectful by
those in their society while being called an honor by those who use it. In some cases though, it
can be seen that when members of the respective societies that are being depicted within the
media are allowed to have some creative decision with it, that some real issues can be addressed
and shown to an audience that otherwise would have never thought about it. This was popularly
down through Dave Chappelle s, Chappelle s Show, and through rap music. As seen in the
Chappelle s show, it was shown that the stereotypes that the media portrays, can actually have a
lasting effect on America s multitude of sub cultures. The Chappelle s Show was a comedy skit
show created by Dave Chappelle. In the show, Chappelle would play out events and real life stories
of black members of society in a comedic

Harold And Maude Film Techniques
According to the film of Harold and Maude directed by Hal Ashby, there is a scene where both
Harold (a kid who thinks suicidal), along with his mother by the name Vivian are sitting down,
not even facing the same direction of each other. Vivian begins to ask back to back questions to
Harold based on the national computer dating services. During the scene, Harold looks straight
ahead while his mother is looking down at the form of questions she is constantly asking him.
The whole time, Harold does not say a word and his mother answers each question herself, as she
would know her son s answers. Harold slowly pulls out a handgun out of a case located on his lap.

In the scene, they are wearing luxurious attire inside of an elegant setting. Harold was wearing a
dapper suit and tie, while the mother was wearing a nice dress with an appealing necklace and
purse. This would be the assumption they live a high class (ruling) lifestyle. Secondly, this
scene shows the ideology how negative Harold thinks of Vivian. Once he aimed the gun her way
and kept it steady with confidence, a viewer could easily tell Harold was fed up by his own
mom. As most kids with their parents, this shows an exaggeration of how they could feel when
parents are annoying them when they do not want to be bothered or dislike them as a whole.
Lastly, an ideology that both works and can be made out of the following scene is the dominant
belief of Harold s attitude and emotions. Things may not seem to be bad for a person if he or she

Genetic Information vs Privacy Essay
The genetic technology revolution has proved to be both a blessing and a blight. The Human
Genome Project is aimed at mapping and sequencing the entire human genome. DNA chips are
loaded with information about human genes. The chip reveals specific information about the
individuals health and genetic makeup (Richmond Germov 2009).The technology has been
described as a milestone by many in that it facilitates research, screening, and treatment of genetic
conditions. However, there have been fears that the technology permits a reduction in privacy when
the information is disclosed. Many argue that genetic information can also be used unfairly to
discriminate against or stigmatize individuals (Willis 2009).

But when those involved in these legitimate activities make demands that seem inappropriate, the
records must be protected. Disclosure of personal medical information should also be subject to
patients or families consent (Richmond et al. 2009).
Although the gene chip will enable an individual to know whether he/she has a genetic disease,
that person may not want to know the information. Many people are frightened that a positive
finding on a genetic test will result in discrimination and ostracism because the society will
consider them abnormal (Easthope 2005). The other concern is that with genetic test information
one might lose or might be unable to get a job or insurance. There have been concerns that with
the knowledge of one s medical information after a gene test, he/she might suffer a psychological
problem especially when the results reveal that one suffers from a terminal disease or has high
possibility of suffering from one (Willis 2009).
The testing is not a bad idea as such but it should not be done to children. This regards to personal
autonomy where it would be better if the testing is delayed until an individual is old enough to
make his or her own decision about the test. A person s genetic information should be private and
counselling should be done to elucidate the basis for and consequences of the test in question.
Individuals should be allowed to choose when and which

Former NFL superstar and Hall of Famer, Lawrence Taylor once said, Steroids are for guys who
want to cheat opponents. The use of steroids is banned in professional and organized sports.
Performance enhancing drugs should not be accepted in professional sports. Performance
enhancing drugs also known as PED s, violate rules, give players an unfair advantage, and send a
terrible message to young athletes. There are many types of PED s but the main two are Lean
Mass Builders and Stimulants. Lean mass builders, which increase the growth of muscle and lean
body mass, are popular for athletes who play contact sports. Stimulants can increase athletic
performance by increasing focus, energy, metabolic rate, and aggression.
If everyone wanted to level the playing field, maybe it s time to legalize performance enhancing
drugs. Legalizing PEDs would make life so much easier for professional sports organizations that
are currently tasked with keeping their players legal under the anti doping policies. It would be
easier to allow PEDs in sports than to constantly test athletes that are suspected cheaters. Plus from
a business stand point it makes more sense for professional sports to legalize performance
enhancers. One needs only to look to the late 1990 s where Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa put
together two of the most memorable baseball seasons in the history of Major League Baseball. The
home run race was popular world wide as jerseys flew off the shelves for these two athletes,

Hurricane Mitigation Research Paper
Miami, Florida is located in an area that is exposed to a lot of natural hazards. Hurricanes and
flooding are two of the most prominent natural disasters that this area experiences. Due to the fact
that these natural disasters occur so frequently, mitigation plans have been implemented to decrease
the potential damage. In order to efficiently detect oncoming disasters, weatherradars have been
utilized to track high precipitation that may lead to floods. In addition, hurricane experts study the
past hurricanes that passed through to get a better understanding of when a hurricane may strike.
Other strategies to track future hurricanes include monitoring hurricane patterns from space.
Currently, in Miami, Florida, many mitigation strategies have been introduced to lessen the damage

that evacuation strategies are the most important, because the process of evacuation is the least

Language And Sexism In Language
Language plays an important role in society. In large extent it is a mirror of it while at the same
time it functions as means of constructing and maintaining that society. As a phenomenon of
society, language reflects all the perspectives of human society. Sexism in language has been a
controversial topic in sociolinguists since its inception. In this chapter, a historical overview will
be made and a definition of sexist language will be provided.
Sexism in language exists when language devalues members of a certain gender. Sexist language
has many definitions but for the sake of this essay the following definition will be used: [a
statement] is sexist if its use constitutes, promotes or exploits an unfair or irrelevant or impertinent
distinction between the sexes (Vetterling Braggin 1981:3).
Over the years there have been many concerns about gender and language which can be traced to
linguistics and to feminist theory. As a research field it developed side by side with the second
wave of feminism during the 1960s and 1970s, despite the fact that gender and language have
been a debatable issue for a long time. Around that time many articles and books were written
which addressed two questions; the essence and importance of gender bias in language and of
gender differences in language use. As Lakoff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Human Behaviour in the Social Environment
Introduction The article s main social concern is to examine prevention and intervention methods
and their subsequent impact on family poverty and children s mental, emotional and behavioral
health. As a conceptual framework, Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), tackle four aspects of
poverty, the family and child as the main subjects or selection factors, the multidimensional nature
of poverty, the mechanisms through which poverty effects children on an individual, relational and
institutional level, and the multidimensionality of children s outcomes. The authors used two types
of interventions. The first set of interventions were advanced by experts in child and family
development, targeting the mediating mechanisms such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, our analysis will focus on the child, as the person in environment, and the various
systems around him/her. The microsystem, which contains the child s most immediate
environment (Greene, 1999), includes the family, school, peers and youth programs; each
functioning simultaneously as an independent whole, and as a part of a larger system (Zaastrow
Kirst Ashmas, 2009). Mesosystem, consists of processes occurring between the child s
distinctive microsystems (Greene, 1999). Exosystem involves processes occurring between two
or more systems, one of which is not directly linked to the developing person (Greene, 1999).
Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), explain how poverty is a family affair; the parents
resources directly determine children s access to resources and their social standing. As
mentioned in Yoshikawa et.,al (2012), lack of proper resources limits the family s ability to
purchase goods, schooling, food, and housing, and provide a safe environment for necessary
development. The linkage between family and school is an example of a mesosystem. Moreover
unstable work, an exosystem component, leads to depressed parental mood and marital conflict,
the consequences of which are higher levels of behavioral problems in children, parenting stress
and a lack of effective caregiving (Yoshikawa et., al, 2012). A further illustration of an exosystem:
lack of parental employment contributes to poverty and results in a negative

Character Analysis Of Oedipus
When contemplating the character of Oedipus in Oedipus Tyrannus, it would be easy to dismiss
him as merely a tragic character with only a cursory glance. One must dig deeply into Oedipus to
fully understand him as a man. Aristotle understood this when used Oedipus as his example of a
tragic hero. It is through deep analysis that one fully grasps that while Oedipusis a tragic character,
he is also heroic in his being and his actions. Yes, Oedipus does make mistakes due to his hubris,
but this does not negate that he is a noble person who does act nobly. Part of Aristotle s discussion
of the tragic hero is that he must be a person of greatness. This greatness entails not only a high
social position, but it also includes a nobilityof character. Oedipus displays virtuous
characteristics even before becoming king of Thebes. He becomes king because of his
encounter with the Sphinx. Thebes had been under the Sphinx s thrall for some time with
innocent lives being taken due to an incorrect answer to the Sphinx s riddle. When Oedipus
encountered the Sphinx, he demonstrated wisdom and insight by correctly answering the
Sphinx s riddle. Oedipus triumph over the Sphinx was viewed by the Priest as an act of bravery and
as a rite of passage. The Priest refers to Oedipus as the one who saved Thebes from the Sphinx
(Oed. Prologue.40). His actions led Oedipus to be called a king of wisdom tested in the past ,
Noblest of men , and Liberator (Oed. Prologue. 46, 53, 55). Thus, it was Oedipus actions before he
was king that made him heroic.
Not only was Oedipus heroic before becoming king, he was also heroic once he was made king.
The play begins with Thebes suffering from plague that has been caused, according to the
Oracle at Delphi, by the death of Laius, Oedipus predecessor. Oedipus as a noble king, responds to
the cries of his people. In fact, he refers to them as poor Children as if they are his metaphorical
children (Oed.Prologue. 66). He imposes on himself the responsibility of the safety and nurturing
of the people of Thebes. He sees his people s suffering and is wrought over it because he has been
in tears for a long while over it (Oed. Prologue. 69).
It is this care and concern that forces Oedipus to

In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni GaudГ began work on La Sagrada FamГlia (the Expiratory

Gothic Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi s

architectural conceptions he had been developing with previous projects. Throughout his career ,
Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through

Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Essay
Feste in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
In William Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth Night, it is ironic how many times the fool is said to be
dishonest, when, in fact, his role proves entirely opposite. Though sometimes the characters do not
realize his hidden messages, the reader can instantly comprehend Feste s figurative language, which
is evident in every scene in which the fool appears. Whether he is singing to Orsino, arguing with
Malvolio, or playing around with Viola, Feste always manages to sneak in a few symbolic
foretokens before his exit. His keen eye and fast wit help him to actively partake in the portrayal of
the story, however, the fool is merely present to express that which cannot be fully expressed

Upon closer inspection of his words, the reader can see Feste s honest assessment of character
shine through. For example, while jeering back and forth with Malvolio, Feste states, Sir Toby
will be sworn / that I am no fox, but he will not pass his word for / twopence that you are no fool
(1.5.77 79). In this proclamation, Feste shows his perceptions of both Toby and Malvolio. He
believes that Toby is not a wise man due to the fact that, although the fool is clearly intelligent,
Toby does not realize just how crafty Feste truly is. However, Malvolio s self deception is so
obviously false that even one such as Toby, who cannot even realize Feste s ingenuity, can see
through it. Later, while he is fooling around with Toby and Andrew, Feste laughs, Did you ever
see the / picture of We Three ? (2.3.16 17). This comparison between the three characters in the
scene and the famous painting of We Three, a picture portraying only two fools, therefore
implying the viewer to be a third fool, shows that Feste portrays both Sir Toby and Andrew to be
fools, along with himself as the third. One last illustration of Feste s whimsical messages can be
found while he is speaking to Sebastian. In this instance, the fool reveals one of the play s
ongoing themes by stating, No, I do not know you, ... nor your name is not Master Cesario, ...
Nothing that is so is so (4.1.5 9). To Sebastian, this statement was simply a sarcastic one,

Americans living in the British colonies didn t feel like living in liberty being under the tyranny of
King George III. Their happiness (the one they once thought they d find leaving the Old World) was
far from being achieved under so many taxes. Jefferson defended the idea that these rights must be
secured by governments instituted by men, and that when these governments become destructive of
these rights, the people have the right to abolish those institutions and to create new ones in order
to secure their principles. Further in this same long second paragraph, Jefferson accuses King

King George III was the person holding the highest position in the British Government at that

Informative Essay On Anorexia
Anorexia s meaning loss of appetite . According to The National Institute of Mental Health it is
considered to be one of the deadliest eating disorders. Therefore it is important to communicate
the red flags , characteristics, symptoms, age range, and a way to cure and prevent the eating
disorder. Eating disorders can be form upon social media, famous people, as well as mental issues.
The National Association of Anorexia Nervosaand Associated Disorders says All segments of
society are affected: Men and women, young and old, rich and poor, all ethnicities, all social
economic levels. And ANAD estimates that 6 percent of people with serious eating disorders die.
(Silverthorne, 2009).
Red Flags are basically what warns us that a family member friend, peer is or may be suffering
from anorexia. The Mayo Clinic lists us a number of them which will help prevent the eating
disorder. First it starts with skipping meals, and then it starts with excuses for not eating. Basic
phrases I am not hungry , I ate already , I ate earlier I am full. Then if there is a consumption of

The Global Issue Of Overpopulation
Since the early twentieth century, the world s population has exploded copiously.. This
phenomenon known as overpopulation has been called a threat to humanity, and people all across
the world are affected by it. There is inadequate housing to shelter the population, not enough
resources for the population to continually utilize, pollution, habitat loss, and much more.
Politicians and scientists alike are striving to solve this problem.: In evaluating the global issue of
overpopulation, one can determine the solution to it through limiting children by creating a law,
implementing the policy, and appropriately enforcing the limit. To begin to steady out the
superfluous population, one must understand the crux of the dangers of... Show more content on

There should be worldwide taxes imposed on items such as diapers and baby wipes in rich
countries, and the money collected from the taxes will be wired to the UN and WHO. Anyway,
there is evidence that a limit like this works. The birth rate in China has fallen since 1979, and the
rate of population growth is now 0.7 per cent. ( Managing Population Change ). That is a great
statistic considering that it was 1.9 percent in 1950. On the other hand, the limit should be set to
two or three for poor, underpopulated countries because decreasing an overpopulated nation s
population would cripple it financially and socially. Creating a childbirth limit similar to that of
China and revising it is the first step to controlling the population. After a plan is engendered, it
must be implemented worldwide. The UN will make it an international law that is imperative and
obligatory to follow, and each nation s government will do their part in imposing it upon their
citizens. The UN will observe each nation s population and then implement a limit that is
reasonable with the population, so that poor, underpopulated countries will not be destroyed, but
one with gargantuan populations will have a logical limit set. Every nation with over two hundred
fifty million people or one hundred fifty million people and an annual population increase of 1.5
percent or more will need to implement a one child policy. Nations with fifty million up to one
hundred fifty million

Narrative Essay About Canoeing
Canoeing was always something I had wanted to do. Years ago, my family and close friends
would go canoeing down the beautiful Cedar River in Osage, but I was always too young to go
along. This past summer, while sitting in the shop with my dad and brother, on a hot and humid
day, my dad suggested that we should go canoeingdown the Upper Iowa River. I jumped up with
excitement as I was so happy that I would finally get to go canoeing.
When Sunday came around, my mom, dad, Theo, and I headed to Cresco to go on my first little
canoeing trip. Before we could just jump in the river with a canoe, we had to register. Upon arriving
at the registering table, I could see the long line of anxious kids, like me, and frustrated parents,
most likely like mine, standing in line to register. We spent a good twenty minutes standing in the
hot rays of the rising sun over the opened, grassy area, near the banks of the river just trying to
register to get a canoe.
After finally being able to register, my family along with other strangers, piled into a van pulling
a rusty rack carrying at least twelve canoes and kayaks each. I wasn t sure our canoes would
make it to the river entrance after seeing how they weren t even strapped down as we were flying
around curve after curve on a dusty gravel road. All the windows in the van were open making the
ride to the entrance a little unpleasant. We could feel the warm, dusty air blowing at us from all
directions.
After surprisingly arriving

Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to
acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does
this by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily
follow such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in
modern day life.
The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner; we learn that with sin comes the reprimand of a supernatural figure; however the prejudice
one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. The poem contains
riot only a mysterious or supernatural element, which

The Effects Of Alcohol And Drug Abuse On Criminal Activities
Discussion: Whilst many theorists have differing views on whether or not alcohol and drug
abuse is related to criminal activities, there are however a variety of preventative and
intervention methods known commonly as harm reduction . This theory aims to assist in society
s responses in how we intervene when it comes to drug abusers as well as how the use of drug
taking harms society itself. Such designed strategies aim to reduce and eventually stop substance
abuse. Harm reduction methods can come in the form of intervention programmes (such as
rehabilitation programmes), or access to health clinics and support groups that include needle
exchange services for drug injectors and these aim to lessen the after effects that are linked with
substance abuse and criminal activities. According to Newcombe, R. (1992), Harm Reduction can
be defined as a term that defines policies, programmes, services and actions that work to reduce
the health, social and economic harm , as well as to reduce the harms to individuals, communities
and society . Many local and international organisations can attest to and be evidence of the
usefulness of the harm reduction theories (each having their own or similar approaches). Some of
these organisations include Drugscope a popular UK charity, NTA National Treatment Agency (for
Substance Misuse), and also CCSA The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. The CCSA has a 4
step approach in how to deal with reducing harm for drug misusers and society.

  • 2. The Fallibility Of Human Reason In The Kite Runner The fallibility of human reason is critical within the novel, and most pronounced in the eventually fatal decision of letting the goat herders go without consequence. Twenty minutes prior, Luttrell and his mates were moving through the Afghani mountain range, looking for the optimal surveillance position, they could have never predicted or trained for Afghani goatherders, two adults, one boy, and approximately one hundred goats, to stumble upon their position. A situation such as this is precisely what Talib called a black swan, in his book titled after the term, a truly impossible to predict occurrence. After deliberating amongst themselves, they decided against killing the three, as Luttrell s Christian beliefs, and his great fear of the liberal media backlash prevented him. Neither the reader, nor can Luttrell ever know the answers to these questions. However, a famous 20th century physicist devised a thought experiment to explain a predicament such as this. Erwin Schrodinger, a famous Austrian theoretical physicist, devised a thought experiment to illuminate the faults in quantum theory, a new proposition in physics at the time. The experiment goes like this: a cat is placed in a closed box with radioactive material, a Geiger counter, a hammer, a glass flask of poisonous gas, and a timer set for one hour. At the hour mark, the radioactive material has exactly a 50/50 chance of emitting a particle (radioactive decay). If so, the hammer will be released, smashing the flask of poison, and killing the ... One source reveals, the first person to recognize that magnesium was an element was Joseph Black at Edinburgh (Magnesium). But others accredit Sir Humphry Davy an English chemist, through the electrolysis of a mixture (The Element Magnesium). While the chemist may not be decided on, magnesium has become a very effective substance through history. Magnesium is the lightest metal that can be used to build things, although its use as a structural material is limited since it burns at relatively low temperatures (The Element Magnesium). This became a large benefit to the Germans in WWII. Magnesium aluminum alloys are used where strong, lightweight materials are required, such as in airplanes, missiles, and rockets (The Element Magnesium). • 8. Environmental Concerns And Climate Change Proposed Research Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous potential for hydro and wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research endeavor. In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in interconnected power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing authority shall achieve, as a minimum, CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation between a ... Since 1994, the production of cell phones has increased from 24 million to 182 million in wireless phone apparatuses. With 162 million established cell phone users in the United States the cell phone market is rapidly increasing . This rapid increase is due to the current and ongoing development of technology and innovation in perfecting the cell phone. Throughout the history of the cell phone industries collaborations have arose in order to stay lucrative in the fast changing field. Worldwide wireless companies have been compelled to collaborate. This collaboration is due to a wide array of reasons that all relate to the firm s attempts to stay lucrative. Wireless companies have the tendency to acquire market share via both products and accessories. When these companies merge they can then share their markets and products and offer a superior service. Without working together smaller wireless companies at times fall victim to what is known as predation. Therefore, collaboration is necessary within the cell phone industry to maintain profits and increase assets. One of the ways that cell phone companies maintain profits and increase assets is through the addition of new and emerging technologies to cell phones. The market would suffer immensely without competition and instead of more benefits being provided, prices for the goods and services provided by that market will increase. Occupational licenses are an example of how entrepreneurs could be driven out, thus keeping out any competition and driving up prices instead of providing benefits. Dower examines an array of responses from the Japanese perspective to find out how they are feeling after the war. The depth of loss and confusion which the Japanese people experienced is vividly conveyed, notably in Dower s accounts of the huge scale of social displacement and missing persons, and the long drawn out period of food droughts. Against this background of economic and social misery, however, Dower is also concerned to locate the effects of defeat on the Japanese people. Even in the pits of despair, people were reshaping their future identity and discovering new aspirations. Dower tackles this at three levels. First, he investigates the subcultures of defeat. It was a symbol of national shame and a conduit for new American values of luxury, and materialism that were eagerly embraced. • 20. Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society 1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. • 22. The Perception Of A Social Group The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or collective action is key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be a framing of a situation as problematic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Weekly Writing 3 Throughout history, American society has famously taken advantage of non European cultures and traditions for their own entertainment. Major media companies, colleges, and athletic organizations have famously exploited the cultures and stereotypes of Native American s and African Americans for the sole purpose of profit and increased entertainment value. In American society, there has been the era of Blaxploitation films in which African Americans society was shown through raunchy and low budget films. Sports teams, colleges, and public schools have turned Native Americans into an irresponsible excuse of a mascot the can offend and can be considered disrespectful by those in their society while being called an honor by those who use it. In some cases though, it can be seen that when members of the respective societies that are being depicted within the media are allowed to have some creative decision with it, that some real issues can be addressed and shown to an audience that otherwise would have never thought about it. This was popularly down through Dave Chappelle s, Chappelle s Show, and through rap music. As seen in the Chappelle s show, it was shown that the stereotypes that the media portrays, can actually have a lasting effect on America s multitude of sub cultures. The use of steroids is banned in professional and organized sports. Performance enhancing drugs should not be accepted in professional sports. Performance enhancing drugs also known as PED s, violate rules, give players an unfair advantage, and send a terrible message to young athletes. There are many types of PED s but the main two are Lean Mass Builders and Stimulants. Lean mass builders, which increase the growth of muscle and lean body mass, are popular for athletes who play contact sports. Stimulants can increase athletic performance by increasing focus, energy, metabolic rate, and aggression. If everyone wanted to level the playing field, maybe it s time to legalize performance enhancing drugs. Legalizing PEDs would make life so much easier for professional sports organizations that are currently tasked with keeping their players legal under the anti doping policies. It would be easier to allow PEDs in sports than to constantly test athletes that are suspected cheaters. Plus from a business stand point it makes more sense for professional sports to legalize performance enhancers. In large extent it is a mirror of it while at the same time it functions as means of constructing and maintaining that society. As a phenomenon of society, language reflects all the perspectives of human society. Sexism in language has been a controversial topic in sociolinguists since its inception. In this chapter, a historical overview will be made and a definition of sexist language will be provided. Sexism in language exists when language devalues members of a certain gender. Sexist language has many definitions but for the sake of this essay the following definition will be used: [a statement] is sexist if its use constitutes, promotes or exploits an unfair or irrelevant or impertinent distinction between the sexes (Vetterling Braggin 1981:3). Over the years there have been many concerns about gender and language which can be traced to linguistics and to feminist theory. As a research field it developed side by side with the second wave of feminism during the 1960s and 1970s, despite the fact that gender and language have been a debatable issue for a long time. The microsystem, which contains the child s most immediate environment (Greene, 1999), includes the family, school, peers and youth programs; each functioning simultaneously as an independent whole, and as a part of a larger system (Zaastrow Kirst Ashmas, 2009). Mesosystem, consists of processes occurring between the child s distinctive microsystems (Greene, 1999). Exosystem involves processes occurring between two or more systems, one of which is not directly linked to the developing person (Greene, 1999). Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), explain how poverty is a family affair; the parents resources directly determine children s access to resources and their social standing. As mentioned in Yoshikawa et.,al (2012), lack of proper resources limits the family s ability to purchase goods, schooling, food, and housing, and provide a safe environment for necessary development. The linkage between family and school is an example of a mesosystem. Moreover unstable work, an exosystem component, leads to depressed parental mood and marital conflict, the consequences of which are higher levels of behavioral problems in children, parenting stress and a lack of effective caregiving (Yoshikawa et., al, 2012). • 34. Character Analysis Of Oedipus When contemplating the character of Oedipus in Oedipus Tyrannus, it would be easy to dismiss him as merely a tragic character with only a cursory glance. One must dig deeply into Oedipus to fully understand him as a man. Aristotle understood this when used Oedipus as his example of a tragic hero. It is through deep analysis that one fully grasps that while Oedipusis a tragic character, he is also heroic in his being and his actions. Yes, Oedipus does make mistakes due to his hubris, but this does not negate that he is a noble person who does act nobly. Part of Aristotle s discussion of the tragic hero is that he must be a person of greatness. This greatness entails not only a high social position, but it also includes a nobilityof character. Oedipus displays virtuous characteristics even before becoming king of Thebes. He becomes king because of his encounter with the Sphinx. Thebes had been under the Sphinx s thrall for some time with innocent lives being taken due to an incorrect answer to the Sphinx s riddle. When Oedipus encountered the Sphinx, he demonstrated wisdom and insight by correctly answering the Sphinx s riddle. Oedipus triumph over the Sphinx was viewed by the Priest as an act of bravery and as a rite of passage. The Priest refers to Oedipus as the one who saved Thebes from the Sphinx (Oed. Prologue.40). His actions led Oedipus to be called a king of wisdom tested in the past , Noblest of men , and Liberator (Oed. Prologue. 46, 53, 55). Thus, it was Oedipus actions before he was king that made him heroic. Not only was Oedipus heroic before becoming king, he was also heroic once he was made king. The play begins with Thebes suffering from plague that has been caused, according to the Oracle at Delphi, by the death of Laius, Oedipus predecessor. Oedipus as a noble king, responds to the cries of his people. In fact, he refers to them as poor Children as if they are his metaphorical children (Oed.Prologue. 66). He imposes on himself the responsibility of the safety and nurturing of the people of Thebes. He sees his people s suffering and is wrought over it because he has been in tears for a long while over it (Oed. Prologue. 69). It is this care and concern that forces Oedipus to ... Whether he is singing to Orsino, arguing with Malvolio, or playing around with Viola, Feste always manages to sneak in a few symbolic foretokens before his exit. For example, while jeering back and forth with Malvolio, Feste states, Sir Toby will be sworn / that I am no fox, but he will not pass his word for / twopence that you are no fool (1.5.77 79). In this proclamation, Feste shows his perceptions of both Toby and Malvolio. He believes that Toby is not a wise man due to the fact that, although the fool is clearly intelligent, Toby does not realize just how crafty Feste truly is. However, Malvolio s self deception is so obviously false that even one such as Toby, who cannot even realize Feste s ingenuity, can see through it. Later, while he is fooling around with Toby and Andrew, Feste laughs, Did you ever see the / picture of We Three ? (2.3.16 17). This comparison between the three characters in the scene and the famous painting of We Three, a picture portraying only two fools, therefore implying the viewer to be a third fool, shows that Feste portrays both Sir Toby and Andrew to be fools, along with himself as the third. One last illustration of Feste s whimsical messages can be found while he is speaking to Sebastian. In this instance, the fool reveals one of the play s ongoing themes by stating, No, I do not know you, ... nor your name is not Master Cesario, ... Nothing that is so is so (4.1.5 9). • 44. The Global Issue Of Overpopulation Since the early twentieth century, the world s population has exploded copiously.. This phenomenon known as overpopulation has been called a threat to humanity, and people all across the world are affected by it. There is inadequate housing to shelter the population, not enough resources for the population to continually utilize, pollution, habitat loss, and much more. Politicians and scientists alike are striving to solve this problem.: In evaluating the global issue of overpopulation, one can determine the solution to it through limiting children by creating a law, implementing the policy, and appropriately enforcing the limit. To begin to steady out the superfluous population, one must understand the crux of the dangers of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There should be worldwide taxes imposed on items such as diapers and baby wipes in rich countries, and the money collected from the taxes will be wired to the UN and WHO. Anyway, there is evidence that a limit like this works. The birth rate in China has fallen since 1979, and the rate of population growth is now 0.7 per cent. ( Managing Population Change ). That is a great statistic considering that it was 1.9 percent in 1950. On the other hand, the limit should be set to two or three for poor, underpopulated countries because decreasing an overpopulated nation s population would cripple it financially and socially. Creating a childbirth limit similar to that of China and revising it is the first step to controlling the population. After a plan is engendered, it must be implemented worldwide. The UN will make it an international law that is imperative and obligatory to follow, and each nation s government will do their part in imposing it upon their citizens. The UN will observe each nation s population and then implement a limit that is reasonable with the population, so that poor, underpopulated countries will not be destroyed, but one with gargantuan populations will have a logical limit set. Every nation with over two hundred fifty million people or one hundred fifty million people and an annual population increase of 1.5 percent or more will need to implement a one child policy. • 45. Narrative Essay About Canoeing Canoeing was always something I had wanted to do. Years ago, my family and close friends would go canoeing down the beautiful Cedar River in Osage, but I was always too young to go along. This past summer, while sitting in the shop with my dad and brother, on a hot and humid day, my dad suggested that we should go canoeingdown the Upper Iowa River. I jumped up with excitement as I was so happy that I would finally get to go canoeing. When Sunday came around, my mom, dad, Theo, and I headed to Cresco to go on my first little canoeing trip. Before we could just jump in the river with a canoe, we had to register. Upon arriving at the registering table, I could see the long line of anxious kids, like me, and frustrated parents, most likely like mine, standing in line to register. We spent a good twenty minutes standing in the hot rays of the rising sun over the opened, grassy area, near the banks of the river just trying to register to get a canoe. After finally being able to register, my family along with other strangers, piled into a van pulling a rusty rack carrying at least twelve canoes and kayaks each. I wasn t sure our canoes would make it to the river entrance after seeing how they weren t even strapped down as we were flying around curve after curve on a dusty gravel road. All the windows in the van were open making the ride to the entrance a little unpleasant. We could feel the warm, dusty air blowing at us from all directions. After surprisingly arriving ... • 46. Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does this by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily follow such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in modern day life. The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner; we learn that with sin comes the reprimand of a supernatural figure; however the prejudice one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. The poem contains riot only a mysterious or supernatural element, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Effects Of Alcohol And Drug Abuse On Criminal Activities Discussion: Whilst many theorists have differing views on whether or not alcohol and drug abuse is related to criminal activities, there are however a variety of preventative and intervention methods known commonly as harm reduction . This theory aims to assist in society s responses in how we intervene when it comes to drug abusers as well as how the use of drug taking harms society itself. Such designed strategies aim to reduce and eventually stop substance abuse. Harm reduction methods can come in the form of intervention programmes (such as rehabilitation programmes), or access to health clinics and support groups that include needle exchange services for drug injectors and these aim to lessen the after effects that are linked with substance abuse and criminal activities. According to Newcombe, R. (1992), Harm Reduction can be defined as a term that defines policies, programmes, services and actions that work to reduce the health, social and economic harm , as well as to reduce the harms to individuals, communities and society . Many local and international organisations can attest to and be evidence of the usefulness of the harm reduction theories (each having their own or similar approaches). Some of these organisations include Drugscope a popular UK charity, NTA National Treatment Agency (for Substance Misuse), and also CCSA The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse. The CCSA has a 4 step approach in how to deal with reducing harm for drug misusers and society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
