High School Algebra Research Paper
During the years of high school, students are exposed to multitudes of branches of mathematics.
Each math prepares you for college and different careers; however, algebra is the basic math
every person will use throughout their life. Algebra will play a role in my life throughout my
college career and adult life by means of taxes and shopping. .
During college, students must take specified required classes math, language, science, and social
studies especially as well as classes designed for the student s identified major. As a freshman
undergraduate student, I will be required to take math classes involving algebra. Having an
understanding in high school better prepares me for these upper level lessons. I intend on
majoring in economics with a minor in foreign language and legal studies. As an economics
major, I will utilize statistics, which coincides with algebraic principles. I will continue to need to
input numbers into formulas for class assignments. Not only will I need algebra for math classes,
but also the concepts will be used in science lessons, especially courses such as chemistry and
physics. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

more extensive forms and utilizing more mathematics to complete the documents. Many people

The Controllers Of The Air Controllers
Tenerife Air Controllers As mentioned, the air controllers on staff on Sunday, March 27, 1977
was light. This airport was small and on a normal day did not have a lot of air traffic. The airport
was not equipped to handle the amount of planes, or the large planes because they were not the
appropriate size nor did they have the proper dimensions to allow the large planes to make the
appropriate maneuvers. There was no ground radar, there was no ground lights, clouds are
moving in and minimizing visibility, and they had to work in their second language. Why did the
controllers ever feel it was safe to guide planes they were unfamiliar with completely blind? Why
did they not ground the planes when the fog moved in? Controllers are in charge of ensuring the
planes safely land and take off by managing the order of takeoffand each plane s direction. If they
cannot see them how are they able to effectively do this?
Leadership Style Van Zanten s leadership style not only affected the performance of his own
team, but impacted his decisions, Pan Am cockpit crew, the controllers and all the passengers
on both planes. He did not appear to be focused on people during his decision making at Tenerife,
and it is not questionable if there was ever a focus on people. He is very task concerned, and in
the case of Tenerife very focused on himself and hitting the Dutch law deadline, which caused him
to not focus fully on the task of flying his plane safely off of Tenerife. On a normal day

The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil
Isidore E. Sharpe
Professor Kenneth Yelverton
OTS 102
18 September 2015
The Minor Prophet Hosea
The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing
prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to
observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same
Hebrew root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle class merchant, a farmer or
cattleman. It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim
or Manasseh. Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil.
Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of
the prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing
was abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie
says, His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. (Scroggie). The
heartbeat of God is the tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of thus saith
the LORD several times. (Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a
prophet.
Hosea may have been one with tender hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a
prophet, the prophet of the broken heart; the weeping prophet; and the prophet of Israel s zero hour,
because the nation had sunk to

The Importance Of Desegregation In Public Schools
Have you ever thought about how much history has changed since the dark days? The civil rights
act of 1964 finally ended segregation in public places. The civil rights was first proposed by
president John F. Kennedy, despite all the oppression from southern council members. Swann v.
Charlotte Mecklenburg board of education. Presented to the Supreme Court in 1971 this case was
to determine wether the respondents idea of the desegregation plan was an effective and reasonable
attempt. The constitutional mandate to desegregate public schools did not require all schools in a
district to reflect the judgement of the district s racial composition, but the existence of all black or
all white schools must not be shown to be the result of segregation... Show more content on

Approximately two thirds of the Negro children attended schools which were entirely Negro or

desegregation plan for elementary schools... Brown v. Board of education was a milestone for the
Supreme Court. This case decided that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. This case
signaled the end of legalized
Futch 2 segregation in the schools of the United States. This case overruled the separate but equal

immediately decided that the case of Brown v. Board of education was a violation of the 14th
amendment, making it unconstitutional. Arguments were to be heard during the next term to
determine just how the ruling would be imposed. Just over one year later, on May 31, 1955, Warren

desegregation plans with all deliberate speed. Although there were two unanimous votes against this
ruling along with all the resistance against the supreme courts ruling

How The Apollonian Contrasts With The Dionysian
Nietzsche has a different outlook on the world. In World of Ideas, by Lee A. Jacobus, it says;
Nietzsche s task was to explain the polarities, their form of expression, and their effect. (pg. 643)
What is the they you ask? Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the
Greek with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but
I will spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined
aspects of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional
aspects of human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music,
cinematics, and art. First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians
are classical in the department. Not exactly the classical genre of music, just older music. See, they
don t like all these new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more
awe inspiring if they see the performance all in one take. They want to see the actors make the
play a perfection, waiting to see if a mistake is made and if the actors can recover. A
Dionysian,on the other hand, likes movies more. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they
want more. The symbolism, the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be
brought to life. They don t care how, they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in
how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many
shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at.
If you were to give them a single picture that looked concave and convex at the same time, they
wouldn t appreciate that to much. That is more of a Dionysian outlook. They want the pictures that
make your mind think, make you question every

King Aeetes, who sacrificed the ram and had the fleece hung. Later he was told by an oracle that
if he lost the fleece, he would lose the his kingdom as well. Being told this, King Aeetes decided
to have it guarded by a dragon in the temple of Ares, the god of war. Generations later, King

Essay On Capitalism And Capitalism
In every country, there is always an economic system created to meet the needs of its people.
Capitalism, as described by Adam Smith and communism as described by Karl Marx, are two
types of these economic systems. Capitalism tries to meet the needs of the people allowing all its
citizens to work to improve their lives by giving them control over the economy while communism
gives the government total control of its industry and the economy and all people have equal social
and economic status. These two types of economic systems each have a different effect on the
economy of the nations and its people.
Capitalism is the system in which we live in, where businesses are privately owned and operated

or look for a new way to manufacture it s this competition that leads to the production of better
goods at lower prices this is called Mass production. Also by removing all limitations and
regulations, every ones self interests would fuel the economy s growth. While in government
plays a small role in capitalism it allows its citizens some Individual freedom like Freedom of
Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Choice, Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of the
Press. Because of this Entrepreneurs have the ability can risk their own money in the market
economy. Entrepreneurs are people take a risk by investing their money in a business venture.
Communism has an opposite way of achieving the needs of its people like Adam Smiths Wealth of
Nations Karl Marx a 9th century philosopher and political economist addressed a wide range of
political and social issues the Communist Manifesto. By having a Communist economy, the
government can have total control of industry and keep production of goods from competing with
one another and make everyone work for the good of the society. By doing this competition,
unemployment, and poverty would be eliminated. All good and services would be distributed
according to people s needs as a result food and clothes would cost less. Through this system,
Communist workers standard of living would be raised because many benefits can be provided

Caroline Chisholm s Catholic Vocation
Caroline Chisholm demonstrated her Catholic vocation through her work towards restoring the
balance between rich and poor, and through this work she reflected the priestly, prophetic and
kingly values of Jesus. Prayer and worship were at the centre of her life, and these beliefs
encouraged her to act on injustice for the marginalised group of immigrants, in particular females.
Caroline showed priestly values because of her work towards restoring the balance. She did this
through assisting immigrants by giving them shelter, supplies and educating them to find
employment. She demonstrated prophetic values by acting on the injustice to immigrants, who at
the time were treated poorly and as if they were not part of society. This was shown when

Federalists Essay
The early years of the Constitution of the United States were full of political strife. The two
prominent political ideals were complete opposites. The Jeffersonian Republicans were focused
on giving power to the people and maintaining a pastoral economy, while the Federalists
supported the control of the government by the elite class, and maintaining positive democracy.
Both parties feared the influence and effect the other party would have on the public. In Linda K.
Kerber s article, The Fears of the Federalists , the major concerns Federalists held in the early
19th century are described. Ever since the war with and separation from England, the citizens of

the Proletariat formed. This class was negatively viewed by the Federalists as they believed that

condition of the proletariat class was also poor, and the Federalists believed that the poor were

that those who are rich and assured of their social and economic standing are not going to rebel.

Brave New World Vs The Dispossessed Analysis
Utopia offers us a glance at an alternative world, something that is necessary to protect against
armed conflict, poverty, and hunger all of which are dilemmas in our modern day world.
Although these are just a few of the complications that persist in our world, Brave New World by
Aldous Huxley and The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin give us a look into some utopian
societies, fundamentally built on the same idea, to become a perfect utopia, but vastly different. The
World States in Brave New World achieves the most utopian society compared to the civilizations in
The Dispossessed, since a perfect utopian society includes a government that provides Freedom,

Alexis De Tocqueville, And Max Weber s Analysis
The idea of human freedom is seen in multiple aspects through the eyes of multiple theorists.
Human freedom is an extensive topic because it extends throughout many different aspects of life,
such as politics, religion, and education to name a few. Throughout this paper, I intend to address
the aspects of human freedom as seen through the writings of Emile Durkheim, Alexis de
Tocqueville, and Max Weber. Each theorist presents his own ideas on what human freedom really
is and how it can exist, but they also share a few ideas as well. Durkheim is best known for his
work Suicide in which he discusses the restraints and regulations put on members of society. For
Durkheim, this is where human freedom exists; liberty exists in restraint.... Show more content on

Men tend to cling to equality more than freedom because the advantages are instantaneously
evident, and they think it will last forever. Oppositely, the advantages of freedom are not as
quickly evident, and after all, Western society is all about the now and how quick one can see
results for their efforts. Political liberty requires great exertion while political equality evidences
itself everywhere and is much easier to come by. Because of this, Tocqueville believes that if
men seek equality and freedom and do not find it, they may seek equality in other things, even
things as preposterous as equality in slavery. Democracy is about freedom and equality alike.
Equality, however, is an insatiable desire of men. For Tocqueville, I think the positive outcomes
of freedom need to more quickly evident in order for people to crave it as they do

Analysis Of The Goophered Grapevine By Charles Chesnutte
Charles Chesnutt s Writings for Social and Political Change Charles Chesnutt was a well known
African American author who was known for his short stories that conveyed racist African
American dialect and conveyed his wishes for equality and social and political change for African
Americans. The purpose of this paper is to delve into Chesnutt s short storyThe Goophered
Grapevine to define the way Chesnutt manipulated his audience and worked towards white
sympathy for the black community. Chesnutt knew that if he attempted his goal with his white
audience s knowledge, they would resist and he would therefore be unsuccessful. Therefore,
Chesnutt needed to disguise the motive of the story so he could affect his audience without their
knowledge of his manipulation. Chesnutt did so through the use of storytelling with three
characters that served to show the three sides of the racial divide. Through the use of storytelling,
Chesnutt used the three main characters in The Goophered Grapevine as a whole to represent and
show the different sides of the racial divide and manipulate his audience into sympathizing with the
black society in order for social and political change; Uncle Julius functioned as the storyteller as
well as the black society, John functioned as the white side of the community who resisted change,
and Annie functioned as the side of the white community that sympathized with the black
community and sought political and social change for the black community.

85 % of all cases of pneumonia. Around ninety two different strains of S. Pneumoniae, collectively
called pneumococci, are known to cause harm on humans. Streptococcus pneumonia is a member of
pharyngeal microbiota that can colonize the lungs, sinuses, and middle ear. They are round shaped,

the designers and architects at the firm has tried to ask for this software in the past and the bosses
turned the idea down because the software was too expensive. The designer didn t provide any
evidence or provided little logic for his argument, which is why he was unsuccessful in influencing
the superiors. Influencing them into purchasing is the only option now and everyone in the
company acknowledges the need for such software except the superiors.

Why is my life so boring? Renaldo was thinking about how his life could possibly be more

Sexual Response Cycles
Men and women all go through sexual response cycles. The response cycle occurs in both sexes
in four phases. They are excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. The first phase, excitement
can come from different things such as kissing, sexual thoughts, erotic videos or pictures, all of
which can lead to arousal. During this phase, the body is preparing for intercourse. For both
men and women, excitement causes similar changes to their bodies such as nipples and
earlobes swelling. Muscle tension, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow increases. With
these changes, it can lead to heavier breathing as well as a change in color to skin, commonly
referred to as being flushed . While both men and women experience increased blood flow, the
increase in blood flow causes different things between each sex. Men will experience an erection
in the penis whereas women will experience swelling in the clitoris and labia. Also, women s
breasts can swell but men will not experience the same swelling. The next phase, plateau, is before
the orgasm. It causes our bodies to react in different ways, much of which is a continuation of the
excitement phase, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Normally this is a continuation of sexual pleasure and only lasts for a few seconds. For women,

tightening of the vaginal walls, and overall pleasure. Orgasms that women experience are typically
longer than what male s experience and doesn t always include female ejaculation. Both men and
women experience muscle contractions during the orgasm phase but in different parts of their body.
They also hit the highest point of blood flow and breathing rate. After the orgasm is over for both
men and women, their genitals begin to return to its original state, which brings us into the next

Oedipus Tragic Flaw Analysis
Oedipus the king has a temper tragic flaw it s an anger that leads him to many unknown problems
due to killing his own father, king Laius, which happened at the crossroads, however his violent
temper has a good candidate in it which is due to a tragic flaw. Furthermore, Oedipus has Pride
which leads to identifying himself as a good character. Oedipusmain downfall unwillingness leads
to his faithfully fate. Many people don t like him and accuse him of many things that he hasn t
done. Yet, many people support him like Jocastathey encourage him to keep going forward and
keep being open minded, not to measure himself, and to never give up. However, due to many
things he has been accused of Jocasta comforts him by telling him that there are no truth in oracles
prophets and she has plenty of proof. Furthermore, a long time ago an oracle told Laius a story that
supposedly his own son would killhim, yet results came in and said he and Jocasta gave their
monthly old son of a shepherd to leave on a hillside to die with a pin between its ankles.
However, he was killed by three robbers not by his own son, one of Jocasta proofs that the oracle
was wrong. Something about her story puts Oedipus into trouble, she said that Laius was killed
at an intersection where three roads meet, which reminds Oedipus of an incident that happened in
the past. Furthermore, when he killed a stranger at an intersection where three roads met, he then
asks her to describe Laius, and her details match his memory. However, Jocasta tells him that the
only witnesses there are to Laius s death is a herdsman, which he swore that robbers killed him.
Oedipus then witnesses and interrogates them. However, Jocasta helps him to be the bigger and
better person. While Jocasta and Oedipus wait for the man to arrive, they ask why he seems so
troubled. Oedipus then talks to her about the story of his past. When he was young an old man he
met told him that he wasn t his father s son. He then automatically and asked his parents about that
and of course they denied it. However, he still had a doubt about that and wondered why the man
told him that. Yet, he eventually went to an oracle to find out the truth to see who his real parents

The Success Of Accuracy And Efficiency Of Neuromorphic...
The success of accuracy and efficiency of neuromorphic architectures led to the the advent of more
applications that demanded even more work in this field.Advancement at architecture level and
state of the art in silicon neural processing began in the early 1980 s when Carver Mead, widely
regarded as the father of neuromorphic computing, wrote the book Analog VLSI and Neural
Systems. . The following sections of the paper provide a comprehensive survey of the prior art
discussing the current trends in neuromorphic chips.
A.Device Technology and NeuronArchitecture
Developments in electronic devices is trending towards lesser area and more functionality. This
trend has been driven by Moore s Law (*?) [1965_Moore] which states that transistor density will
double every 18 months and as it is evident from roadmap of semiconductor technology that this law
has reached its bottleneck[3].So when scaling in terms of dimensions and voltage was no longer
and effective alternative we enter into the More than Moore regime that involves exploring other
alternative strategies for improving efficiency and transistor density and neuromorphic architectures
is one of them. Digital neurons are able to have high throughput, consume less power, and increase
the density, which make a compelling argument for their future.Analog neuron don t affect scaling
yet they still have a seat at the table when it comes to neuromorphic architectures. Authors

Violence And Racism In Wolf Whistle By Lewis Nordan
Wolf whistle is based on a real life tragedy that occurred in 1955. Lewis Nordan, the author uses
humor to alleviate the vicious tone that was given off from the violence and racism. During 1955
Jim Crow laws were in effect, so segregation and inequality was present throughout the whole
novel. Jim Crow laws sparked a significant amount of unfair trials, where the guilty people were
magically let go, unpunished. The Emmett Till case was one of the many unfair trials. It solely
revolved around violence and racism, which still exists in our society today. Racism can and does
lead to violence a majority of the time. It is detrimental flaw in society, where innocent people are
killed daily due to their skin tone. In Wolf Whistle, Bobo was a fourteen year old African American
boy that was murdered by two white men because he wolf whistled at a white female. He was
killed simply because a white man named Solon thought that Bobo s action was outrageous due
to his skin color. Unfortunately, racists people like Solon still walk among us today. They are
referred to as white supremacists, since they firmly believe they are better than other races.
Killings like Bobo s still happen today but to a lesser degree. Bobo s death was a long, slow and
vicious death that no human should ever have to go through. Bobo s death began when he was
kidnapped from where he was staying at with no fight. His Aunt and Uncle practically handed him
over to Solon. The fact that Solon was

the eerily similar, yet drastically different Irish Easter Rising and subsequent revolution? Causes,
leaders, battles, treaties, resolutions, and effects are a part of every country. Sometimes they are

Washington were both elected commander in chief over armies. Neither of them had ever

lost more battles than they won. However, the similarities mostly end here. The outcome was the

Many of the Irish leaders were writers, poets, or scholars with little to no military training. In
contrast, the Americans had a lot of trained and capable leaders. These drastically different leaders
had drastically different effects on the Revolutions. Washington s unique military tactics won the
American Revolution, starting when he had the idea to cross the Delaware. And Pearse, although
he lost, went down in history for his bravery when faced with insurmountable odds. One of Pearse s
most famous quotes reads They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have
purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think they have foreseen everything, think
that they provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! they have left us our

Cyber Attackers Use For Hacking An Organization
Phishing has become one of the most successful methods cyber attackers use for hacking an
organization. It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers
understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain
someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people
pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or
government organization. The attackers do not have a specific target in mind nor do they now
exactly who will fall victim, they simply know the more phishing emails they send out, the more
people they can fool. Their goal is to trick people into providing the phishers with their private
information. 2015 saw an increase of 23% of users opening phishing messages and 11% of users
click on the attachment (Verizon, 2015). Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two
concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by
the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put
invested in technological means. Many organizations use technical means such as filtering
messages, detection of fraudulent websites, and developing anti phishing warning systems
(Egelman et al. 2008). However technical means are incapable of removing the threat of phishing

Hence it can be said that this is a building that did have religious connotations in the ten
contemporary times. However the building does not exhibit any image or statute of the ancient
roman gods (Jones, 2014). Hence it is not clear that which are the specific gods to whom the
architecture or the building had been dedicated. The very look of the porch and the decorations
of the pediment also indicates at the fact that the building could have been used by the ancient
kings to call for assembles for meeting their special nobles or even a large crowd of the general
masses. In this context it can be said that the Pantheon did have social, cultural and also political
importance and implications. The pantheon is the first example of classic architecture. This is a
building where the interiors of the building have received more attention that the exterior of the
building. It is a fine specimen of ancient roman architecture that has been influenced by the Greek
architecture to a great extent. The yellow marble that has been applied to the outer steps is a fine
example of Greek influence on the designs and the layout of the temple (MacDonald, 2002).

Wiseblood Movie Vs Book
2. Wiseblood can be described as hopeful throughout the novel and movie because of Hazel s

Wiseblood, Hazel asks the lady sitting across from him on the train whether or not she thinks
she has been saved by Jesus. He then launches into his spiel about why she can not be saved and
that Jesus never washed everyone s sins away with his blood (Wiseblood). While this may not

Enoch is based off of Enoch from the Bible. Enoch was the great grandfather of Noah. He walked

died; he just went to Heaven to live with God. In the novel and the movie, Enoch had wiseblood
that he inherited from his father (O Connor). The fact that Enoch inherited his wisdom from his
father shows that Enoch was based off of Enoch from the Bible who walked with God, The

which goes back to the story of Enoch when he went to live in Heaven with God instead of
dying. Sabbath was named after the sabbath. Her name did not show her true character though.
She turned out to not be innocent at all. In the movie, she tries to be very seductive with her

important to have an electoral process in place, a constant struggle among voters, officials, and

Promise of Accessible Voting for Voters With Disabilities Still Unfulfilled, New Report Finds

that, due to inadequate or malfunctioning voting machines, voters with disabilities are frequently
forced to ask for assistance or compromise the privacy of their vote severe violations of federal
disability accommodation requirements. Furthermore, voters found themselves stuck waiting for
longer periods of time in lines which grew longer until such problems could be resolved. In Why
Long Voting Lines Could Have Long Term Consequences , Emily Badger discusses some of the
reasons that deter voters from future voting, such as the effects of voters who wait for long periods
of time in lines during elections. She explains that many people vote solely for the experience of
being part of something. However, past studies show, if a voters experience involves standing in
large lines for long periods of time, they are less likely to go through the hassle of voting in the
future as a result. In addition, long lines can raise trust issues among voters. Badger agrees, stating
surveys also show that people who wait longer to vote have less confidence that their votes are
counted accurately (20). Overall, continuing to use DREs which have had many technical
difficulties causing long lines may affect whether someone votes in the future, which possibly

An Average Real Estate Transaction Essay
Zillow
Alvin Cahyadi, Devyani Rana, Emmeline Tjong
1. An average real estate transaction includes two separate real estate agent a seller s agent and a
buyer s agent. A seller s agent signs a contract with a seller, obtains exclusive right to sell a
property in a given time period, photograph the property, host open houses, receive offers, and
negotiate on behalf of the seller. A buyers agent filters listings to match the buyer s criteria, and
assist in preparing an offer. Since buying and financing is a big decision and has unending
combinations of location and building conditions, the value added of agents is the provision of
professional assistance in the search of a suitable property and negotiating pricing and terms. The
conflict of interest that would arise between a buyer/seller and their agents are the situations in
which there is dual agency, which is the situation in which real estate professionals represent both
buyers and sellers in a single transaction. Such a scenario facilitates the collection of commission
by an agent from both sides. This could not only lead to alteration in the payment flows, but also
increase the probability of agents presenting only listings they represent thereby not serving a buyer
s needs. This is avoided because buyers prefer separate buyer s agents, brokerages prohibit their
agents from executing dual agency transactions, and state laws that prohibit dual agency.

are short REM sleeps and long periods of deep sleep.
Stage 1 is a type of sleep where you drift in and out of your sleep. You can be easily awake. The

Slow waves sleep comes mostly in the first half of your sleep. (REM) is the second half. Walking
may occur after (REM) if the walking period is long enough, the person may remember it the next

Main Characters In Homer s Odyssey And Virgil s Aeneid
[insert title]
In both Homer s Odyssey and Virgil s Aeneid, the main characters of each poem, Odysseus and
Aeneas, travel to the underworld in search of guidance and the foretelling of fate. In the Odyssey,
this scene is being retold by Odysseus to the Phaiakians, while in the Aeneid, the reader is told the
scene from a third person point of view. Each poet s depiction of the underworld has different
purposes within the text. I argue that Homer s depiction is meant for Odysseus to entertain the
Phaiakians, while Virgil s depiction is meant to instate values within Aeneas. Although both texts
contain many of the same scenes within the underworld, the differing methods of narration between
the texts, and the added details within the Aeneid, greatly change the effects of the scene on
characters within the poems. These differences are important because Odysseus must gain favor
from the Phaiakians, and Aeneas must fulfill his destiny. To support this argument, I will first
discuss each character s journey in the underworld, the descriptions of the underworld, and finally
the purpose within each text.
On each character s journey to and through the underworld, they go seeking one person but have
other experiences that shape the characters and their future journey. Odysseus has been
instructed by Circe to seek Tiresias, and Aeneas was visited by his father in a dream and ordered
to see him in the underworld. Early in the journey for both characters, they encounter an issue
with the unburied dead. Aeneas is told by Sibyl that a friend lies dead... bear him first to his
place of rest (Virgil, Book 6, Line 179 182) before heading to the underworld. This shows the
importance of burying the dead and this is one of the earliest values that Aeneas learns on his
journey. Aeneas must protect and respect his men, even in their deaths. The first soul that
Odysseus encounters in the underworld is that of Elpenor, his dead companion that had not yet
been buried under earth of the wide ways (Homer, Book 11, Line 52). Elpenor begs Odysseus to
burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and to give him a proper grave (H, B11,
L74). Odysseus later grants Elpenor s wishes and returns to Aeaea to give him a

Plato s Republic, written as a dialog, Plato s main speaker and his former teacher, is Socrates
throughout the work. In Republic we learn of Plato s Concepts of Justice, Virtue, and what is good.
Plato is considered one of the preeminent philosophers of his time and foremost contributors to the
studies of philosophy, political science, and psychology. His influences and works are the basis on
which many philosophers from ancient Greece to modern day use to construct their theories.
In the Republic, dialog between Socrates, Thrasymachus, and Glaucon convey to us what Plato
classifies as good and classes of good, and what is just and unjust. If we can describe what is just
and good we can better determine what is the best course of action. Plato describes, Justice as a
virtue, Justice is, at once a part of human virtue and the bond, which joins man together in
society. It is the identical quality that makes good and social. Justice is an order and duty of the
parts of the soul, it is to the soul as health is to the body. Plato says that justice is not mere
strength, but it is a harmonious strength. Justice is not the right of the stronger but the effective
harmony of the whole. All moral conceptions revolve about the good of the whole individual as
well as social. (Bhandari). So it can be said that what is just and good , in the Platonic sense, is
good for the individual as well as society. Plato then frames governance or the

devices. They also focus on research and development to help heal diseases and treat illness. The
company does not have a mission statement but they do have a Credo. This credo was written by
Robert Wood Johnson in 1943. 1 Our Credo: We believe our first responsibility is to the doctors,
nurses and patients, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services. In
meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce
our costs in order to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work and to the world community
as well. We must be good citizens support good works and charities and bear our fair share of
taxes. We must encourage civic improvements and better health and education. We must maintain
in good order the property we are privileged to use, protecting the environment and natural
resources. Our final responsibility is to our stockholders. Business must make a sound profit. We
must experiment with new ideas. Research must be carried on, innovative programs developed
and mistakes paid for. New equipment must be purchased, new facilities provided and new
products launched. Reserves must be created to provide for adverse times. When we operate
according to these principles, the stockholders should realize a fair return.
History of the Company Johnson Johnson was founded in 1886 in New Jersey by three brothers
Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson, and Edward Mead Johnson. They started out
producing sterile surgical dressings. In 1893, they started selling baby powder. From there they
moved on to Band Aids, baby shampoo, Tylenol, contact lenses and stints to name a few of their
many early products. Johnson Johnson also provided disaster relief to Galveston, Texas after a
devastating hurricane 1900, and to San Francisco, California after an earthquake in the 1906. They

Exploratons and Colonization of North and South America...
Exploration and colonization of North and South America were ultimately not beneficial in the
15th and 16th centuries because it wiped out many cultures and did more harm than good. First of
all, the Europeans forcibly converted the Natives to Christianity. This had a great negative impact
because it resulted in the loss of native cultures. Over time, many Native American languages
started to disappear from common use and English took over. Many may argue that colonization
and exploration were important because of the Columbian Exchange that arose from it, however
diseases and the slave trade also came from the Columbian exchange. I believe that the death of
millions was not a reasonable price to pay for the benefits of the Europeans. It... Show more content

They created the Maryland TolerationAct which required religious toleration in the British North
American colonies (msa.maryland.gov). Rhode Island is another example of a religiously
tolerant colony. With the help of Roger Williams, Rhode Island was able to separate the church
from the state. The colonies of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Rhode Island set the model for other
colonies to follow. More and more colonies started the practice religious tolerance (andycrown.net).
Though there were some colonies that did not practice religious tolerance, the majority of the
colonies did practice religious tolerance. The horrible and brutal treatment of the Native Americans
were unnecessary and could have been avoided. Men like Columbus and Cortes treated the Natives
with a cruel and brutal hand. They enslaved a great amount of natives, they brought disease to the
natives and they ruthlessly killed the Natives for no good reason. There could have been other
ways in which the Natives and Europeans could have interacted in order to get what both sides
wanted. For example, the Columbian Exhange could have occurred without violence. The
Europeans and Natives could have respectfully made deals about trade rather than the Europeans
just coming in and taking what the pleased. All in all, the Europeans only did things to benefit
themselves and brutally destroyed the people and culture of

Overview of Pitching Machines
Pitching Machines Introduction A compound machine is just what it sounds like it is two or
more simple machines combined to make one machine. Technically, the mechanical advantage of
having a compound machine is the В¦magnitude by which it reduces the required force,
according to the Galileo department website at the University of Virginia. In other words, the
mechanical advantage of two machines working in sync as one machine is that the required
force is cut in half of what it would be without the machine. In this paper the emphasis is on the
compound machine known in the sports training world as the baseball pitching machine. How it
Works The website LiveStrong.com points out that there are pitching machines that are battery
powered in case the playing field is too far from electrical outlets. Those machines are not as
common though as machines that are powered by electricity. Some machines require a human to
feed each baseball into the machine (they cost less) but most machines allow the baseball
coaches to load up several baseballs at a time. One particular brand, The Heater, allows coaches to
load a dozen baseballs in the machine and the machine pitches a ball about every 12 seconds
(LiveStrong.com). The versatility of baseball pitching machines is impressive; not only to many
pitching machines allow the coaches to change the speed of the pitch from a fastball to a slow
change up the machines will throw different pitches, like curveballs at different

Banana Boat Ads
Advertisements, big or small, stand at almost every corner all over the world. They convince,
trick, and sell products as well as ideas to people. Brands use advertising, essential in today s
economy, for anything from food to technology. The company Banana Boat uses advertisements to
sell their new sun comfort sunscreen through a plethora of techniques that affect and move people
to buy their sunscreen. Banana Boat printed an ad in an early 2016 edition of Glamor magazine.
Marketers for the brand have a woman lying in sand while wearing a blue bikini and making a
sand angel. At the bottom, they have a picture of their sunscreen bottles and the facts about it on
top of the picture. The ad itself strategically sat between two celebrity gossip... Show more content

This ad uses arguments to convince people to buy their product. The marketers appeal to
happiness by implying their sunscreen brings happiness at the beach. Also, the ad appeals to
family values and attracts parents by saying how it moisturizes in addition to protecting the
skin. The sunscreen itself attracts families with the name sun comfort. The facts the ad has
listed moisturizes, protects, and keeps the sand off also appeal to logos, or the logic behind the
product. The Banana Boat brand itself gives a sense of authority, adding ethos to the ad, because
the brand has years under its belt. In addition to arguments, the ad uses logical fallacies to draw
the audience in. They use ad populism, making an emotional connection to the argument by
implying that happiness comes from their sunscreen. The ad has hasty generalization by saying
that it works for the girl in the ad, so it will work for anyone. Ad makers also do not include facts
in ads to deceive the audience. Banana Boat incorporates basic information into the ad, but leaves
out a major concept: how the sunscreen works. They may say that the sand won t stick if people
use the sunscreen but not how. They also leave out reviews and ratings that most ads show. These
responses show how the public has reacted to the product itself. Marketers use these techniques to
trick people to buy the

Model Of Behavior Analysis
Modeling is undoubtedly a pervasive tendency that governs a variety of human behaviors. Albert
Bandura (2006) states that modeling is an effective tool to elicit society wide change across
cultural boundaries. He goes on to say that observational learning is an evolutionary adaptation
that allows development of the self and overall functioning. By observing others, people can learn
to behave like the models that they observe (Spiegler, 2010). This is simply referred to as
imitation. Modeling requires two fundamental elements to be effective. First, an observer must be
able to see what the model did, and then the observer must be able to see what happened to the
model as a result of the behavior. By the observer observing the cause and effect... Show more

The results of a models behavior are called vicarious consequences. The vicarious consequences
of the models behavior largely dictate if the observer will model the behavior or not.
Furthermore, there are two types of vicarious consequences; vicarious reinforcement and
vicarious punishment. Vicarious reinforcement occurs when an observer witnesses a models
behavior being reinforced. When models behaviors are reinforced, observers are more likely to
model the behavior. Conversely, vicarious punishment occurs when an observer witnesses a
models behavior being punished. When models behaviors are punished, observer are less likely
to model the behavior. Also, there are several different types of models; live models and
symbolic models. Live models are models that are living people, whereas symbolic models are
indirectly observed models, such as characters on television or read about in books. An aspect of
symbolic models is covert modeling, where an individual imagines how a particular person
would perform a specific behavior, and then models it. An interesting fact about modeling is that
an individual is more likely to model a behavior is the model is similar to the observer. In other
words, the likelihood of modeling taking place is a function of similarity between observer and
model. From this discovery came self modeling therapy. With self modeling therapy, the patient
acts as both the observer and the model to optimize similarity between the two (i.e., oneself is the
most similar model to oneself). This technique has been proven to be greatly effective in treating a
host of mental disorders, with as little as 12 minutes of exposure to the model needed to have
lasting effects. Furthermore, self modeling can be conducted in several ways, including covert self
modeling and video

Why Do Grades Matter
Do grades matter is a question a student might think about. Grades might seem to matter ever
since kindergarten. Grades might not seem to matter until high school, so students can access
college, or individuals might only matter in college. Grades do matter for the reason that
students need to have excellent grades to access the chance to enter college. Also, students need
excellent grades, so students can access the chance for a job since employers look at an
individual s grades to identify if an individual are adequate for the job. For instance, grades
matter if students wish to progress to college. Universities review individuals GPA to examine if
they are fit for the specific college. Therefore, assuming that an individual is foreseen to proceed
into a graduate or medical school; high schooland college grades do affect the outcome. Grades in
college in exceedingly in the majority of circumstances will determine if individuals are chosen.
Experienced admission officers say that grades predict success in work more effectively than test
scores. Institutes that have a high status can only accept the best, meaning that anyone with grades
less than a B average is not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individual would have a bothersome time finding a job. The majority of employers look or
expect a GPA on a resume. Dan Black, the director of recruiting for the Americas at professional
services giant Ernst and Young, said he expects to take notice of a GPA on resumes. Dan Black,
the director says that grades certainly do matter when we re recruiting students. It s admittedly one
of the only indications we have of a student s technical ability or competence to do the job.
Students that goes to an entrepreneur with excellent grades shows that the individual is able to
deal with daily tasks since the individual was able to be successful in

Trifles, By Susan Glaspell
During the 1900 s women were still in the process of fighting for their rights as citizens.
Therefore, women supposedly are less intelligent than the average man, according to the
government during the 1900 s. The men were usually responsible for being brave, strong and
fearless. Along with having the benefit of their word or what men say goes. The 1912 play Trifles,
by Susan Glaspell, who was inspired to write this play from a story she covered as a reporter. A
murder case is being held and authorities are getting down to it suspecting a womanof killing her
husband in his sleep. The character Mrs. Hale who is neighbors and friends with Mrs. Peters, the

She continues to examine the crime scene collecting evidence to pleat to the convict, Mrs. Wright,
as guilty or not. The entering and exiting of characters within the play help emphasize on the
details happening during each scene. Along with that, Mrs. Hale also pointed out the birdcage in
the cupboard that was damaged. Mrs. Hale assumed the bird cage belonged to a singing canary
due to living in a giant house with no kids, which could possible become boring.
Now, during the middle of the play the focus of it starts to shifts the attention to the women,
Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters. Mrs. Hale made a connection between how Mrs. Wright previously
acted from the way she dressed to the attitude she expressed. Mrs. Hale explains that Mrs. Wright
used to be into singing which Mrs. Hale recommended why Mrs. Wright got the singing bird. In
the mysterious house, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters were searching for clues to unveil the truth and
the reason why Mr. Wright was murder. In the play, Mrs. Hale was having a conversation about
the birdcage that was found in the cupboard. Mrs. Hale reflects on the perspective of Mrs.
Wright who was the owner of the house that Mrs. Hale described as quiet and lonesome based on
the location which was hidden to where you were unable to see the main road from the house,
along with, the looks of it according to Mrs. Hale. She then does more snooping around and finds
what she claims to be a fancy sewing box according to the play. The

Detention Argumentative Essay
Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach that man to fish and he will never go hungry.
The same can be said for behavior correction in our youth. Give the child detention, and he will not
be disruptive for a day. Teach that child how to better control their feeling and behavior, and he will
make clear minded and thoughtful choices for a lifetime. Detention is a disciplinary action that tells
the student they made a bad choice with their behavior. However, it does not teach the student how
to make betterbehavior choices. Detention has been around for many years as the solution for
disruptive and ill behaved children, however; the rise in diagnosed anxiety disorders among
teenagers is 25%. With suicide now the third leading cause of death among young teenagers,
(Lynch, 2016) it is clear, detention is not the solution to the problem. Meditationon the other hand,

Use of the Mindful Moment Room includes yoga, stretches, and deep breathing practices. Students
also begin and end each day with a 15 minute guided meditation and are encouraged to stay after
school for a yoga practice to help decompress from the school day. After using the room, students
report that when their emotions start to overwhelm them, they can refer to their breathing
techniques, tune out the distracting stimuli, and refocus on their work. Others report a boost in
their self confidence as well as reduced stress and symptoms of depression (Bloom, 2016).
Additionally, after an eight week program called Move Into Learning introduced in the Midwest,
teachers not only reported a significant drop in hyperactive behavior and inattentiveness among
their students, but that these finding were maintained and even improved upon in the following

  • 4. The Controllers Of The Air Controllers Tenerife Air Controllers As mentioned, the air controllers on staff on Sunday, March 27, 1977 was light. This airport was small and on a normal day did not have a lot of air traffic. The airport was not equipped to handle the amount of planes, or the large planes because they were not the appropriate size nor did they have the proper dimensions to allow the large planes to make the appropriate maneuvers. There was no ground radar, there was no ground lights, clouds are moving in and minimizing visibility, and they had to work in their second language. Why did the controllers ever feel it was safe to guide planes they were unfamiliar with completely blind? Why did they not ground the planes when the fog moved in? Controllers are in charge of ensuring the planes safely land and take off by managing the order of takeoffand each plane s direction. If they cannot see them how are they able to effectively do this? Leadership Style Van Zanten s leadership style not only affected the performance of his own team, but impacted his decisions, Pan Am cockpit crew, the controllers and all the passengers on both planes. He did not appear to be focused on people during his decision making at Tenerife, and it is not questionable if there was ever a focus on people. He is very task concerned, and in the case of Tenerife very focused on himself and hitting the Dutch law deadline, which caused him to not focus fully on the task of flying his plane safely off of Tenerife. • 5. The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil Isidore E. Sharpe Professor Kenneth Yelverton OTS 102 18 September 2015 The Minor Prophet Hosea The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle class merchant, a farmer or cattleman. It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim or Manasseh. Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil. Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. (Scroggie). The heartbeat of God is the tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of thus saith the LORD several times. (Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a prophet. Hosea may have been one with tender hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a prophet, the prophet of the broken heart; the weeping prophet; and the prophet of Israel s zero hour, because the nation had sunk to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the Greek with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but I will spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music, cinematics, and art. First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians are classical in the department. An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more awe inspiring if they see the performance all in one take. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they want more. The symbolism, the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be brought to life. They don t care how, they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at. Caroline Chisholm s Catholic Vocation Caroline Chisholm demonstrated her Catholic vocation through her work towards restoring the balance between rich and poor, and through this work she reflected the priestly, prophetic and kingly values of Jesus. Prayer and worship were at the centre of her life, and these beliefs encouraged her to act on injustice for the marginalised group of immigrants, in particular females. Caroline showed priestly values because of her work towards restoring the balance. She did this through assisting immigrants by giving them shelter, supplies and educating them to find employment. Both parties feared the influence and effect the other party would have on the public. In Linda K. The condition of the proletariat class was also poor, and the Federalists believed that the poor were more prone to indecent behavior and unpredictability7. Human freedom is an extensive topic because it extends throughout many different aspects of life, such as politics, religion, and education to name a few. Throughout this paper, I intend to address the aspects of human freedom as seen through the writings of Emile Durkheim, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Max Weber. Each theorist presents his own ideas on what human freedom really is and how it can exist, but they also share a few ideas as well. Durkheim is best known for his work Suicide in which he discusses the restraints and regulations put on members of society. For Durkheim, this is where human freedom exists; liberty exists in restraint.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men tend to cling to equality more than freedom because the advantages are instantaneously evident, and they think it will last forever. Oppositely, the advantages of freedom are not as quickly evident, and after all, Western society is all about the now and how quick one can see results for their efforts. Political liberty requires great exertion while political equality evidences itself everywhere and is much easier to come by. Because of this, Tocqueville believes that if men seek equality and freedom and do not find it, they may seek equality in other things, even things as preposterous as equality in slavery. Democracy is about freedom and equality alike. Equality, however, is an insatiable desire of men. For Tocqueville, I think the positive outcomes of freedom need to more quickly evident in order for people to crave it as they do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this paper is to delve into Chesnutt s short storyThe Goophered Grapevine to define the way Chesnutt manipulated his audience and worked towards white sympathy for the black community. Chesnutt knew that if he attempted his goal with his white audience s knowledge, they would resist and he would therefore be unsuccessful. Therefore, Chesnutt needed to disguise the motive of the story so he could affect his audience without their knowledge of his manipulation. Chesnutt did so through the use of storytelling with three characters that served to show the three sides of the racial divide. Through the use of storytelling, Chesnutt used the three main characters in The Goophered Grapevine as a whole to represent and show the different sides of the racial divide and manipulate his audience into sympathizing with the black society in order for social and political change; Uncle Julius functioned as the storyteller as well as the black society, John functioned as the white side of the community who resisted change, and Annie functioned as the side of the white community that sympathized with the black community and sought political and social change for the black community. ... The first phase, excitement can come from different things such as kissing, sexual thoughts, erotic videos or pictures, all of which can lead to arousal. During this phase, the body is preparing for intercourse. For both men and women, excitement causes similar changes to their bodies such as nipples and earlobes swelling. Muscle tension, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow increases. With these changes, it can lead to heavier breathing as well as a change in color to skin, commonly referred to as being flushed . Men will experience an erection in the penis whereas women will experience swelling in the clitoris and labia. Also, women s breasts can swell but men will not experience the same swelling. A.Device Technology and NeuronArchitecture Developments in electronic devices is trending towards lesser area and more functionality. This trend has been driven by Moore s Law (*?) It has become effective because it targets the weakest link, people. Cyber attackers understand that the easiest way to hack into an organization, infecting someone s computer or gain someone s password is to simply ask. Phishingworks by sending an email to millions of people pretending to be something they know or trust, such as a well known bank, online store, or government organization. Further, phishing still remains as one of the top two concerns that organizations have and the numbers are growing. Since 2014 phishing concerns by the organizations have been increasing every year (Cyber Edge, 2016) and more money is put invested in technological means. An average real estate transaction includes two separate real estate agent a seller s agent and a buyer s agent. A seller s agent signs a contract with a seller, obtains exclusive right to sell a property in a given time period, photograph the property, host open houses, receive offers, and negotiate on behalf of the seller. A buyers agent filters listings to match the buyer s criteria, and assist in preparing an offer. Since buying and financing is a big decision and has unending combinations of location and building conditions, the value added of agents is the provision of professional assistance in the search of a suitable property and negotiating pricing and terms. The conflict of interest that would arise between a buyer/seller and their agents are the situations in which there is dual agency, which is the situation in which real estate professionals represent both buyers and sellers in a single transaction. Such a scenario facilitates the collection of commission by an agent from both sides. This could not only lead to alteration in the payment flows, but also increase the probability of agents presenting only listings they represent thereby not serving a buyer s needs. This is avoided because buyers prefer separate buyer s agents, brokerages prohibit their agents from executing dual agency transactions, and state laws that prohibit dual agency. 2. • 39. Main Characters In Homer s Odyssey And Virgil s Aeneid [insert title] In both Homer s Odyssey and Virgil s Aeneid, the main characters of each poem, Odysseus and Aeneas, travel to the underworld in search of guidance and the foretelling of fate. In the Odyssey, this scene is being retold by Odysseus to the Phaiakians, while in the Aeneid, the reader is told the scene from a third person point of view. Each poet s depiction of the underworld has different purposes within the text. I argue that Homer s depiction is meant for Odysseus to entertain the Phaiakians, while Virgil s depiction is meant to instate values within Aeneas. Although both texts contain many of the same scenes within the underworld, the differing methods of narration between the texts, and the added details within the Aeneid, greatly change the effects of the scene on characters within the poems. These differences are important because Odysseus must gain favor from the Phaiakians, and Aeneas must fulfill his destiny. To support this argument, I will first discuss each character s journey in the underworld, the descriptions of the underworld, and finally the purpose within each text. On each character s journey to and through the underworld, they go seeking one person but have other experiences that shape the characters and their future journey. Odysseus has been instructed by Circe to seek Tiresias, and Aeneas was visited by his father in a dream and ordered to see him in the underworld. Early in the journey for both characters, they encounter an issue with the unburied dead. Aeneas is told by Sibyl that a friend lies dead... bear him first to his place of rest (Virgil, Book 6, Line 179 182) before heading to the underworld. This shows the importance of burying the dead and this is one of the earliest values that Aeneas learns on his journey. Aeneas must protect and respect his men, even in their deaths. The first soul that Odysseus encounters in the underworld is that of Elpenor, his dead companion that had not yet been buried under earth of the wide ways (Homer, Book 11, Line 52). Elpenor begs Odysseus to burn me there with all my armor that belongs to me, and to give him a proper grave (H, B11, L74). Plato s Republic, written as a dialog, Plato s main speaker and his former teacher, is Socrates throughout the work. In Republic we learn of Plato s Concepts of Justice, Virtue, and what is good. Plato is considered one of the preeminent philosophers of his time and foremost contributors to the studies of philosophy, political science, and psychology. His influences and works are the basis on which many philosophers from ancient Greece to modern day use to construct their theories. In the Republic, dialog between Socrates, Thrasymachus, and Glaucon convey to us what Plato classifies as good and classes of good, and what is just and unjust. If we can describe what is just and good we can better determine what is the best course of action. Plato describes, Justice as a virtue, Justice is, at once a part of human virtue and the bond, which joins man together in society. It is the identical quality that makes good and social. Justice is an order and duty of the parts of the soul, it is to the soul as health is to the body. Plato says that justice is not mere strength, but it is a harmonious strength. Justice is not the right of the stronger but the effective harmony of the whole. All moral conceptions revolve about the good of the whole individual as well as social. (Bhandari). Exploration and colonization of North and South America were ultimately not beneficial in the 15th and 16th centuries because it wiped out many cultures and did more harm than good. First of all, the Europeans forcibly converted the Natives to Christianity. This had a great negative impact because it resulted in the loss of native cultures. Over time, many Native American languages started to disappear from common use and English took over. Technically, the mechanical advantage of having a compound machine is the В¦magnitude by which it reduces the required force, according to the Galileo department website at the University of Virginia. In other words, the mechanical advantage of two machines working in sync as one machine is that the required force is cut in half of what it would be without the machine. In this paper the emphasis is on the compound machine known in the sports training world as the baseball pitching machine. How it Works The website LiveStrong.com points out that there are pitching machines that are battery powered in case the playing field is too far from electrical outlets. Those machines are not as common though as machines that are powered by electricity. Some machines require a human to feed each baseball into the machine (they cost less) but most machines allow the baseball coaches to load up several baseballs at a time. One particular brand, The Heater, allows coaches to load a dozen baseballs in the machine and the machine pitches a ball about every 12 seconds (LiveStrong.com). The versatility of baseball pitching machines is impressive; not only to many pitching machines allow the coaches to change the speed of the pitch from a fastball to a slow change up the machines will throw different pitches, like curveballs at different ... Albert Bandura (2006) states that modeling is an effective tool to elicit society wide change across cultural boundaries. He goes on to say that observational learning is an evolutionary adaptation that allows development of the self and overall functioning. By observing others, people can learn to behave like the models that they observe (Spiegler, 2010). This is simply referred to as imitation. Modeling requires two fundamental elements to be effective. First, an observer must be able to see what the model did, and then the observer must be able to see what happened to the model as a result of the behavior. The vicarious consequences of the models behavior largely dictate if the observer will model the behavior or not. Furthermore, there are two types of vicarious consequences; vicarious reinforcement and vicarious punishment. Vicarious reinforcement occurs when an observer witnesses a models behavior being reinforced. When models behaviors are reinforced, observers are more likely to model the behavior. Conversely, vicarious punishment occurs when an observer witnesses a models behavior being punished. When models behaviors are punished, observer are less likely to model the behavior. Also, there are several different types of models; live models and symbolic models. Live models are models that are living people, whereas symbolic models are indirectly observed models, such as characters on television or read about in books. An aspect of symbolic models is covert modeling, where an individual imagines how a particular person would perform a specific behavior, and then models it. An interesting fact about modeling is that an individual is more likely to model a behavior is the model is similar to the observer. In other words, the likelihood of modeling taking place is a function of similarity between observer and model. From this discovery came self modeling therapy. With self modeling therapy, the patient acts as both the observer and the model to optimize similarity between the two (i.e., oneself is the most similar model to oneself). This technique has been proven to be greatly effective in treating a host of mental disorders, with as little as 12 minutes of exposure to the model needed to have lasting effects.
