Nicole Oresme Research Paper
Nicole Oresme
Abstract
Nicole Oresme, also known as Nicolas Oresme, was born around 1320 in the 14th century on the
outskirts of the Norman city of Caen. Unfortunately, nothing was known of his family. Oresme was
known as one of the most famous scholastic philosophers of the middle age s. He was known for
many different subjects including; economics, physics, astrology, astronomy, theology, philosophy,
and mathematics. Oresme earned his doctorate of arts from the University of Paris between the years
of 1341 1342. In the same year he became grand master of the College of Navarre. He mainly wrote in
the language of Latin but also wrote in French [1]. Oresme was appointed canon in 1362 and later in
1364 was made dean of the Cathedral of Rouen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He came about the idea to use rectangular coordinates and geometric figures to explain uniform and
non uniform distribution of various quantities. For example, he worked on the change of velocity in
relation to time. More importantly, this helped lay a strong foundation that later led to the discovery of
analytic geometry by René Descartes. Oresme used his geometric figures to give the first proof of the
Merton theorem, shown in figure 1 below. This theorem states, The distance traveled in any given
period by a body moving under uniform acceleration is the same as if the body moved at a uniform
speed equal to its speed at the midpoint of the period [2]. Some believe that this resulted in later
discoveries of kinematics, affecting the later work of Galileo s.
Figure 1 Another mathematical contribution was the development of the first proof of the divergence
of the harmonic series. Oresme s proof had less advanced mathematics then the modern proof today.
His proof on the harmonic series was not touched on until later centuries, and was only replicated by
the Bernoulli brothers [1]. Oresmes proof groups the harmonic terms by taking 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on,
after the first two terms, and noting that each block has a sum larger than a ½ [3]. Resulting

Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System
As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the
current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50
servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system
(DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one
server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them
across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal
with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement,
I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased,
which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers. Updating the
operating system to a distributed operating system will increase the overall size and reliability of the
database for subscribers to use. The current server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I
d make minor changes to the server operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I
chose Windows over Linux, MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for
this type of environment. Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003).
While Linux is a good operating system, getting support in my opinion would be

Summary
France and Brazil have shown to have different economies, but are both significant contributors in the
global economy. The two countries are active and of importance to international trade, and although
France has more access to the European Markets, Brazil has an opportunity in the international
markets. The opportunity comes because Brazil has high interest rates, which investors will probably
find attractive. There are differences in the economic profiles of the two countries and also
similarities. One of the differences is in the government s role in international affairs, where, the
French government plays minimal roles, whereas the Brazilian government plays a significant role in
terms of policy making. Because of this the expansionary monetary policy put in place failed to realise
the anticipated economic growth. The fiscal policies are also similar; while Brazil has experienced a
fiscal restraint, France has followed parts of the EU fiscal stability to achieve economic stability.
Despite this the two countries, for the

The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act Of 2008 And...
On October 3, 2008 President George W. Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of
2008, otherwise known as the bailout. The Purpose of this act was defined as to, Provide authority for
the Federal Government to purchase and insure certain types of trouble assets for the purpose of
providing stability to and preventing disruption in the economy and financial system and protecting
taxpayers, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide incentives for energy production
and conservation, to extend certain expiring provisions, to provide individual income tax relief, and
for other purposes (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act). In my paper I will explain and show the
relationship between the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 and subprime lending, the
collapse of the housing market, bundled mortgage securities, liquidity, and the Government s efforts to
bailout the nation s banks.
Subprime lending became prevalent in the early 2000 s when property values were sky rocketing and
many Americans thought they would fulfill their home ownership dreams, by obtaining loans they
may not otherwise qualify for. A subprime loan is a loan offered to an individual who does not qualify
for a loan at the prime rate due to their credit history. Subprime loans have higher interest rates
because of the risk that the lender is taking. During the early 2000 s the housing market was great for
homebuyers, since interest rates where low and property values

Piero The Forest Fire
The Forest Fire Piero Di Cosimo s painting and John Stone s poem The Forest Fire, tells a similar
message concerning the human condition by using a thematic statement. The details in both the poem
and the painting display a fearsome mood among the animals. These pieces of art both illustrate
animals doing different tasks while a fire has erupted, in order to stay alive. John Stone s poem and
Piero Di Cosimo s painting shows that when people come to a difficult situation they react differently.
Firstly, Piero Di Cosimo s painting The Forest Fire appropriately illustrates a dark and fearsome mood
to contribute to the theme. Additionally, the lighting in the painting shows an average cloudy day
while the center is very dark and black. The dark forest brings more attention to the animals inside of
it. The animals in this forest appear to be heavily affected by the fire. The birds are scattered around
and are returning to safety. There is one bull in the very front of the panting who seems ... Show more

This poem is very descriptive because it points out details that the reader may have not pointed out
when glancing at the painting. For example, Stone writes a human snout float in the face of a swine.
This human snout emphasizes how the animals symbolizes the human to connect to the theme.
Additionally, a shift in this poem occurs in the second stanza when the author writes the stalked the
dark and day of every beast except the lion This shift in the poem shows that the lion is different form
the other animals. Even more attention is brought to the lion when the author uses the smile
swaggering like a king . This simile shows that the lion has some sort of high status. Th usage of
words such as blaze, dark, venison, and fear gives the poem a fearsome and dark mood. Furthermore,
this poem successfully shows how animals are reacting to this tragic

Diane Nash Essay
You can thank Diane Nash for the integration at lunch counters. DIane Nash is an African American
civil rights leader and renowned activist, who was very involved in the most important equality and
desegregation movements and campaigns like the Freedom Rides, and the Selma Voting Rights
Campaign, the Dr. Martin luther King Jr. s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the Student
Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Diane Judith Nash was born May 15, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois.
She grew up in a middle class Catholic family, where her father, Leon Nash worked as a clerk in the
military during WWII and her mother, Dorothy Bolton Nash who worked as a keypunch

John Lennon Accomplishments
John Lennon s life as a Beatle began when he was 20 years old, and even though the band may have
broken up, his love for music never died. Along with being a music lover, he was a large peace
activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going to
different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change the
way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennon s career, he and Ono dedicated a large portion
of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth. Overall, John
Lennon was a peace activist through his musical career and used his fame to draw attention to his
beliefs.
First off, Lennon had many successful pieces of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After him and his wife Yoko Ono were married, they took their two week honeymoon at the
presidential suite at the Hilton Amsterdam on March 25, 1969. Lennon referred to this protest as his
Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day to
observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace
movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than Lennon
and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas, prepared to talk
about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of protesting, was also the
time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace a Chance, which, as said
before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of people might look at the idea of
sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace remains undoubtedly silly, the couple
admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this were any ordinary people, it would not
have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since John Lennon was previously a very well
known musician, he was able to use his fame to his advantage. This allowed him to lure in the
paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted unfair conditions unlike anyone else, due to his
fame from being a member of the

Designing A Fdm Based Rapid Prototype Ie
Objective The purpose of this work is to design a FDM based Rapid Prototype ie. 3D Printer which
will corrects the errors found on other FDM printers and which provides high resolution and print size.
To make the design cost effective FDM based printer is considered as cost of making it and cost of
raw materials is very less. Resolution and material usage customization is great in FDM. Hot end
temperature need to be adjusted when different material types are used. When required it is possible to
mix different materials with different properties to produce a single printed object. By end of this
paper one is able to fabricate a 3D printer with low cost.

Surely, the potential of 3D printing (3DP) has captured the popular imagination. From jet engine parts
to made to fit jewelry, the technology is hailed as revolution in how products are manufactured.
According to estimates, the global 3DP printer market is poised to hit $6 billion by 2017 from $2.2
billion in 2012, with global shipments of printers costing less than $100,000 expected to reach about
98,000 in 2014, roughly twice as many as in 2013.
Introduction
3D printer is capable of doing complex and difficult tasks in one long step. A 3D model of the object
to be made with a defined set of parameters and scaling ratios is given as input in STL file (design
model in CAD), which can then be converted into G codes. This data is then used for controlling the
motors and extruding plastic based on the g code generated.
This automated approach towards fabricating contrasts with the traditional way of manufacturing,
where an object is formed by removing excess material or folding and shaping materials

throughout the world today being that it all started in a basement. It has taken over the performance
workout apparel market in the United States and worldwide, over the years it has begun to outsell

expanded its market way beyond performance apparel line and brings products such as footwear and
casual wear also workout wear. The company has prided itself on maintaining a competitive advantage
by always having top notch products and adopting new ideas to outcompete the rivals.
Financial Analysis: Although Under Armour has a big market within the United States, Under Armour
has been facing a hard time trying to gain entry into foreign markets, such as Europe. These entrance
barriers include. Increase in competition also the limited scope of their main sport American Football .
In Europe, the small range of the company compared to the larger, more established companies within

The Call Of Cthulhu Research Paper
In the depths of the explored but also the unexplored reaches of our ocean lies a legend of the great
city of Atlantis. Through out time there has been a great fascination about lost cities and worlds within

between a myth and legend. Myths are the work of fiction and are more then likely false, but a legend?
Legends can sometimes be the truth, and legends never die. First lets take a look into the mind of H.P

Causes Of The Potato Famine
What was the cause of the potato famine. Well Ireland was hit by an airborne fungus that turned the
potatoes to mud before they got out of the ground and rotted them quicker. Potatoes were the main
food in Ireland especially for the poor. Without potatoes many died while others immigrated. The
potato famine caused a lot of death, immigration, and also got help from surrounding areas. Many
people immigrated , some just sooner than others. Between 1845 and 1870 there were at least three
million Irish immigrants (Famine,Irish. The Oxford Company). This shows how devastating and
terrible the famine was to drive three million people out of their own country. Landlords would first

Observations at the Park
A cigarette butt lies next to my foot, still emitting a trace of smoke. Nearby on the dusty asphalt a
pigeon waddles self consciously, bobbing its head as if pecking the air for some invisible food. A
squirrel churrs a threat to his brother, challenging him to romp.
The walkway before me never becomes silent. A buzz of voices blends with the city soundscape of
cars driving and trucks backing, swingsets squealing and sparrows chirping. A toddler, holding tightly
to his sister s stroller, yells Achtung! Achtung! Achtung! at a squirrel that crosses two inches from his
foot. His mother comforts him, in German. A man sits down on the bench across from me, eyelids

I m going home today.
At home, the mountain overshadows our farm in the same way that the thirty story apartment building
a block north overshadows this park. They both recede as they rise, shadowed places standing out
against sunlit sides, seeming to hold themselves back from too much involvement with their
surroundings. This building stands behind a wall of brick rowhouses like the low hill of alfalfa fields
blocks a view of the lower reaches of the mountain.
The rowhouses potentially beautiful facade is marred by rusty air conditioner units and a high trim of
metalwork, corroded to a bright green, contrasting with the clean brick and the white window frames.
Trees obscure my vision slightly, holding onto their last few dirty brown leaves. A puff of air, cool
enough to make you shiver but too warm for a jacket, rustles them.
Strains of harmonica waft from the park bench opposite me. A street musician of sorts has opened for
business, a blue green flowerpot at his feet. His near empty bag is next to him on the bench,
surrounded by his array of harmonicas. A contented Labrador Retriever disinterestedly glances toward
him, not missing of beat of his lazy gait. Swing low, sweet chariot... The man plays each line of music,
then sings it. Coming for to carry me home...

The Violence And Drug Abuse
In our days many people tend to listen to music almost anywhere they go. But unfortunately teenagers
are the ones that get influenced by music the most, as they are less developed than the adults. In today
s days many singers and rappers that sing and rap about the drugs and violence. And for some reason
that s what teenagers prefer. The example of this singers would be O.T Genasis, Wiz Khalifa and
Chief Keef. All these singers and rappers promote the violence and drug abuse in our society. In result,
children become less successful in the society that they live and their physical abilities become less
prominent. Resulting in very weaker generation.
As a part of Chicago s violent community, Chief Keef is known for his rap songs that only talk about
drugs, violence and women. Chief Keef is also one of the most notable artists among the teenagers in
Chicago. As many teenagers listen to Chief Keef s lyrics, unfortunately many teenagers get influenced
by it. In one of the Chief Keef s songs called I don t like , Chief Keef raps I got a bad bitch, yeah that
bitch right. We smoke dope all day, all night. By rapping that, many young teenagers start thinking
that smoking marijuana all day and all night is a cool thing because Chief Keef does that and many
teenagers want to be like him. And as these teenagers get slightly older they become addicted to
marijuana and then start taking much harder drugs. Also, Chief Keef through his lyrics promotes
violence. As almost every song

Light Absorption Research Paper
Light is said to be the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that all people can see. Many people
call this portion visible light, and know that visible light has a range of many colors. These main
colors are usually said to be red, orange, blue, indigo, violet, yellow, and green. The colors of different
objects are determined by the interaction between light and the electrons of the atoms that make up an
object. The object is made up of specific wavelengths of white light unique to the object, and it
absorbs the light according to its wavelengths. Molecules have many states, two of these states, are
states where the electron is excited and neutral when it is originally found. Molecules and atoms can
only absorb light when the energy of a photon matches the energy difference between these two states.

The color wheel relates the wavelengths of transmitted light to absorbed light. Objects absorb different
amounts of white light, which is what makes an object have its unique color. The white light is what in
turn makes color. While there were many theories throughout history on light, the first theories about
light were created by the Ancient Greeks. These theories tried to describe light as a ray which moved
directionally to a point. Pythagoras was best known for his theorem of the right triangle that was made
up of the assumption that vision was made from light rays that came out of a person s eye and hit an
object. This is true in many senses. In reflection, when light hits a smooth surface, it hits then bounces
off. A reflected ray always comes off the surface of a material at an angle equal to the angle at which
the incoming ray hit the surface. However, when light bounces off a rough surface, light reflects at
numerous angles

there is no definitive definition for strategic leadership and the focus will turn to what qualities belong
to a strategic leader and thereby find the very elusive definition so many who are called upon to lead

Understanding The Development Process Of A Child
After carefully observing a 7 year old elementary school student, I was able to analyze and understand
the development process of a child in a detailed manner. The individual observed was a seven year old
Caucasian male, who is currently enrolled at a local elementary school. The participant is the oldest
child of the family who comes from a well balanced family background. Mother and the father are
healthy individuals who are actively engaged in the upbringing of the young participant. Father of the
participant is a full time graduate student at Midwestern University. The participant spends the
majority of his free time outside of his living space actively playing with his younger siblings or just
by himself. The participant is in second grade and rides to school every day on his bicycle under the
supervision of his mother. The participant spends the majority of the day with his mother than father,
this is primarily due to father s full time status as a graduate student. Observation of this participant
was divided in two locations on Midwestern University s campus. The first 40 minutes of the
observation took place outside in front of the participant s living space. Participant spent time playing
with two sticks, trying to attach one stick with another. Although the participant was preoccupied with
the sticks, he was aware of his surroundings. On multiple occasion participant made a direct eye

After I completed my bachelor degree, I realized that nothing would be more important to me than
being responsible for my own life. The next logical step for me was to drag myself to the right track.
To do so, graduate school was definitely the ultimate decision. In order to furnish myself with
essential knowledge of applied arts, I spent two more years studying digital art and design based on
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash, InDesign is currently under

applications. I finished all of the chosen lab based design courses with satisfactory grades.
Additionally, I believe earning a mobile UX UI design certificate was definitely a significant
experience towards the graduate education which I intend to pursue. Throughout the challenging
activity based group project, I have learned about and practiced a human centered process, focusing on
hands on applications of user centered design approaches such as storyboarding user scenarios, user

Comparing Gettysburg Address And I Have A Dream Speech
There are two famous speeches made by two greatly famous people. These speeches are the
Gettysburg Address, and the I Have a Dream speech, which can both be compared and contrasted in
many ways. There are many similarities and differences in these two speeches , such as the purpose,
tone, and structure of them. The first concept that can be used to decipher these two speeches is their
purpose. Both of these two speeches have different purposes. Abraham Lincoln s speech, the
Gettysburg Address was made to give people hope and motivation to change what is happening
around them. He does this by saying that It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the
unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. This quote motivates
people to want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln use facts and details to support their cause. King
uses more figurative language in his speech though, where as compared to Lincoln which uses purley
facts. An example of this would be when King uses metaphors to compare the negros to the whites and
how segregation affects the blacks. A quote for this would be Now it is time to lift our nation from the
quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. ( I Have a Dream ) He is comparing
segregation and racial injustice to quicksand and no segregation and brotherhood to rocks. Lincoln
simply says what we should do and he gives the people reasons to keep fighting. An example of this
would be when he says It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. (Gettysburg address)
Therefore, this proves that he is trying to give the people motivation. Although they may have these
differences, they have one element that is similar. Both King and Lincoln use highly intelligent words
and phrases to sound knowledgeable to get the listeners attention. We can also use the introductions of

Death in Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for...
Death in Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died
Emily Dickinson s two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz When I
Died, revolve around one central theme, death. Though the two do centralize around the theme of
death they both have slightly different messages or beliefs about what is to come after death. By
discussing both of the poems and interpreting their meanings, the reader can gain a fuller
understanding of the message Dickinson is trying to send to her audience and a greater feel for what
may lie ahead in the afterlife. When Dickinson writes in her first line, I heard a fly buzz when I died, it
grasps the reader s attention by describing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In stanza three the speaker is preparing for a journey into an afterlife that may lie ahead. Dickinson
writes, I willed my keepsakes, signed away what portion of me I could make assignable, and then
there interposed a fly. After already dying the speaker feels that it is no longer a must to have the
possessions that most living people deem necessary and leaves them behind as her soul comes closer
to it?s fate. The speaker is getting ready to make this transition to the next world but then the fly
reappears and puts a halt to this alteration. The final stanza of this poem includes the lines, With blue,
uncertain, stumbling buzz, between the light and me; and then the windows failed, and then I could
not see to see. The word light in this stanza can be associated with some heavenly existence or higher
power that awaits the speaker.
The buzzing fly blocks her view though of where she is heading and the light that was once there is
now gone. Though the poem deals with what may await the speaker in the afterlife the reader is still
left wondering if anything does await them after death because the speaker does not reach an afterlife
in the poem. Dickinson?s poem Because I Could Not Stop For Death serenely describes how the
speaker is escorted by Death in his carriage. Death carries the speaker slowly and peacefully through
time. It is ironic that Dickinson writes of Death?s civility and politeness during a time that is mostly
associated with anger and sadness.

All The World s A Stage And All Men And Women
Shakespeare had said All the world s a stage and all men and women
are merely players. Or rather, Jaques from As You Like It did, but that s
besides the point. The point is that I was watching the Lego Movie. And oh
my god is it the best movie ever. What makes it the best movie ever? Not
only does it have a great message, it also actually inspired me to write this
blog post. The movie, starts out to be your regular run of the mill animated
comedy, and moves on to create a connection between the real human world
and the Lego universe. What the cute little kid Finn imagines with his toys,
translates into the actual movie we are watching, and the characters are
living. A movie within a movie Movie ception! Which led me to thinking,
maybe this bubble called life is nothing more than...a movie.
A movie that we act in, direct, produce, write, create an original soundtrack
of, so on...and finally view and review. So perhaps the point really was
what Shakespeare had said. For him, life was a seven act play. And so it
shall be for all you theatre lovers out there (I also speak to my own drama geek self). And for my blog
post point of view and that of every single
movie buff out there, life shall be a movie. Shakespeare said it, and now it s
my turn.

Medieval Japanese Culture
You might already be aware of this, but... I m in Medieval Japan! I have learned so many things in the
short time I ve been here, and have decided to share my findings with you! First off, Japan is actually
made up of numerous islands, four main ones, and 2,456 smaller islands. Though this may sound cool
and interesting, imagine having to govern 2,460 islands. I think that goes without saying that the
geography played a huge impact on the Japanese government. However, they were able to get a few
ideas from their neighboring countries, China and Korea. With that being said, I had noticed that the
Japanese were very eager to emulate China. They started by converting their religion from Shinto, to
Buddhism. Now that I think of it, the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the Heian Period, Japan began to lose respect for China when the nation s Buddhists were
greatly mistreated. This loss of respect is what allowed Japan to follow their own path, going as far as
rejecting any guidance from China. This period initiated the ascent of the Fujiwara regency. Though
they were strong dictators, they were vital to the flourishing of the arts. This period was a time when
society was very important to Japan s growth, since women were greatly involved. One of these
women, Murasaki Shikibu, wrote Japan s first novel, Tale of Genji . In addition to literature, the
Japanese also created the Zen Gardens. These gardens consisted of combed sand, perfectly trimmed
bushes and trees, and strategically placed rocks. Though highly complex and structured, the purpose
of these gardens was to allow the viewer s mind to slip into a state of meditative peace and serenity.
Though there were great artistic achievements, Japan was recently faced intruders proposing a new
religious message. Upon the arrival of Christian missionaries, in 1582CE, roughly 150,00 Japanese
citizens converted. That s 2% of the population! Is this the rise of a new religion? I think not. Bakufu
would not tolerate this influence, and eventually passed laws to prevent conversion, and the
persecution of missionaries and Japanese Christians. I m afraid that s all I have for this trip, my
friends! From the imitation of China to artistic achievements, Medieval Japan has proved to be a truly
fascinating time in

The Infrastructure of Cloud Computing
Cloud computing refers to an internet based computing technology where shared servers provide
infrastructure, software and various other resource to customers on a pay as use basis. Cloud users
need not know how the resources are managed. Hence they can concentrate on the business
functionality of the service rather than the underlying functionality involved in the management of the
resources. These customers do not own the physical infrastructure, but rent these resources from a
third party agency. This concept is widely utilised by the industry, government and in the educational
sector due to the ability to provide robust, resilient and scalable computing power. The resources are
provisioned to the user based on determining the required computing resources by the customer.
Virtualisation is a powerful technology which makes modern computers versatile and powerful. This
technology enables an on demand creation of a large number of virtual machines within a physical
machine and can be implemented at the server level, OS level or at the application level. Server level
virtualisation is done by emulating the underlying hardware by virtualisation software. This
virtualisation software is referred as a Hypervisor or a Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM). In OS
virtualisation, the virtualisation platform runs on top of the host OS which relays and co ordinates
various resource requests from different Virtual Machines (VMs). Application Virtualisation enables

The progressive era in the United States is associated with political reforms and social change. During
the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe. Business
firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other hand, the
American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in the huge
corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were subjected to
severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people. Railroad charges

Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a
significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the
conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The Jungle
caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment of the
Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business competition
techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from the market.
The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The New
York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow of money
in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt compared them
to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff, 2009). However, the
muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the United States society.
The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative ways of doing things.

Essay On The Request Deal
Today, the request deal is a fundamental piece of the criminal equity framework. The considerable
dominant part of charges, more than 90 percent in numerous purviews, are settled through some sort
of supplication deal, called a plea bargain. The Seventh Amendment of the Bill of Rights systematized
it as a basic piece of Americans freedoms. At the point when large amounts of criminals were gotten
and charged, the legislature experienced a trial and decision. However, in the 1800s, a pattern toward
supplication started. A request deal is an arranged understanding for a criminal respondent whereby he
or she consents to confess in return for a greater result. This result might be the dropping of extra
charges.

Plea bargains can also be called plea agreements where the prosecution come together to make
agreements to say if you plead guilty we ll do this and vice versa. Bradley gave away his right to
appeal, attack or motion against any punishment or fine given unto him by the courts. Now in courts
there is more pressure that influences the plea bargaining deals. Prosecutors do not have the time to go
through a broad trial for each case, regardless of whether it a winnable case for the prosecutor.
Current Law
Numerous criminal cases are settled through a request deal, typically a long time before trial. In a plea
deal, the defendant consents to confess to at least one charges, regularly to a lesser accusation than one
for which the litigant could stand trial in return for a more tolerant sentence with the goal that specific
related charges are rejected. The right to create a plea bargain is not given to the state which means
one state does not have the right to prohibit it either. One exceptions to states power is Alaska, The
Attorney general banned plea bargaining. Him banning was not that big of a deal back then because
not that many people were making plea deals there, and it s still not a problem now because Alaska
prosecutors still don t have backloads and overloads of cases to settle. Outside of what some critics

The Popularity Of Popular Culture

Ms. Brown
American popular culture Popular culture is made by the mainstream to influencing minds to like
something. It describes the life style and tastes of the majority of mostly younger people. Some
random popular culture these past few years would be; The Hunger Games, dubstep, raving, Illuminati
theories, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Gucci, Polo, and these are just a few things from popular culture
these past years. Popular culture affected me in many ways. I would say comic books and super hero
movies impacted me the most. Being grown with my mom and dad buying me Marvel comic books
and for most times DC comic books as well. With movies coming out like Hulk, Spider Man, Iron
Man, and many more. In my opinion I would say the Hero phase is the most popular trend. I say it s
the most popular because society looks up to these people and want to help people out or whatever
impact it has on them. Another thing from popular culture that I like is the music from the 90 s. Hip
hop back then was real and ignorant. 90 s rap music has been my favorite since I was young . But now
a days rap music is just for the audiences that are young. I been involved with almost anything in our
culture . Games have been a big one too. Nintendo has set a lot of trends in the world. They showed
up and brought up real entertainment. It doesn t matter how old you are too , you can still play those
video games, read comic books, watch movies, and tell those

Interracial Marriage Controversy
Marriage has been a topic of controversy for a long time. While the United States has finally accepted
gay marriage, interracial and interfaith marriage are still looked at as dirty and wrong. Marriage

cyberbullying experiences because it occurs more frequently than before. More specifically,
cyberbullying is the use of the Internet, cell phones, or other electronic communication devices to

Tom s family was devastated by the cyberbullying because they were clueless about the anonymous

More importantly, cyberbullying has deeper influence than physical bullying because it may involve
in a wide range of audiences within short time period and give high pressure to victims
psychologically. For the traditional physical bullying, it refers to the physical altercations or perhaps
verbal abuse from others, so victims of traditional physical bullying might feel safe at home, which

  • 2. Nicole Oresme Research Paper Nicole Oresme Abstract Nicole Oresme, also known as Nicolas Oresme, was born around 1320 in the 14th century on the outskirts of the Norman city of Caen. Unfortunately, nothing was known of his family. Oresme was known as one of the most famous scholastic philosophers of the middle age s. He was known for many different subjects including; economics, physics, astrology, astronomy, theology, philosophy, and mathematics. Oresme earned his doctorate of arts from the University of Paris between the years of 1341 1342. In the same year he became grand master of the College of Navarre. He mainly wrote in the language of Latin but also wrote in French [1]. Oresme was appointed canon in 1362 and later in 1364 was made dean of the Cathedral of Rouen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He came about the idea to use rectangular coordinates and geometric figures to explain uniform and non uniform distribution of various quantities. For example, he worked on the change of velocity in relation to time. More importantly, this helped lay a strong foundation that later led to the discovery of analytic geometry by René Descartes. Oresme used his geometric figures to give the first proof of the Merton theorem, shown in figure 1 below. This theorem states, The distance traveled in any given period by a body moving under uniform acceleration is the same as if the body moved at a uniform speed equal to its speed at the midpoint of the period [2]. Some believe that this resulted in later discoveries of kinematics, affecting the later work of Galileo s. Figure 1 Another mathematical contribution was the development of the first proof of the divergence of the harmonic series. Oresme s proof had less advanced mathematics then the modern proof today. His proof on the harmonic series was not touched on until later centuries, and was only replicated by the Bernoulli brothers [1]. Oresmes proof groups the harmonic terms by taking 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on, after the first two terms, and noting that each block has a sum larger than a ½ [3]. Resulting ... • 3. Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers. Updating the operating system to a distributed operating system will increase the overall size and reliability of the database for subscribers to use. The current server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I d make minor changes to the server operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I chose Windows over Linux, MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for this type of environment. Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003). While Linux is a good operating system, getting support in my opinion would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing The Economic Profiles Of Brazil And France EC4001/AP4001 Macroeconomic Report: Comparing the Economic Profiles of Brazil and France Daniel Williams K1355702 Table of Contents Page 1 Summary Page 2 Introduction Page 3 Macroeconomic Comparisons: GDP Page 4 Macroeconomic Comparisons: Activities in Trade Page 5 Macroeconomic Comparisons: Living Standards Page 6 Macroeconomic Comparisons: Labour Productivity Page 7 Conclusion Page 8 References Summary France and Brazil have shown to have different economies, but are both significant contributors in the global economy. The two countries are active and of importance to international trade, and although France has more access to the European Markets, Brazil has an opportunity in the international markets. The opportunity comes because Brazil has high interest rates, which investors will probably find attractive. There are differences in the economic profiles of the two countries and also similarities. One of the differences is in the government s role in international affairs, where, the French government plays minimal roles, whereas the Brazilian government plays a significant role in terms of policy making. Because of this the expansionary monetary policy put in place failed to realise the anticipated economic growth. The fiscal policies are also similar; while Brazil has experienced a fiscal restraint, France has followed parts of the EU fiscal stability to achieve economic stability. Despite this the two countries, for the

  • 6. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act Of 2008 And... On October 3, 2008 President George W. Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, otherwise known as the bailout. The Purpose of this act was defined as to, Provide authority for the Federal Government to purchase and insure certain types of trouble assets for the purpose of providing stability to and preventing disruption in the economy and financial system and protecting taxpayers, to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide incentives for energy production and conservation, to extend certain expiring provisions, to provide individual income tax relief, and for other purposes (Emergency Economic Stabilization Act). In my paper I will explain and show the relationship between the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 and subprime lending, the collapse of the housing market, bundled mortgage securities, liquidity, and the Government s efforts to bailout the nation s banks. Subprime lending became prevalent in the early 2000 s when property values were sky rocketing and many Americans thought they would fulfill their home ownership dreams, by obtaining loans they may not otherwise qualify for. A subprime loan is a loan offered to an individual who does not qualify for a loan at the prime rate due to their credit history. • 7. Piero The Forest Fire The Forest Fire Piero Di Cosimo s painting and John Stone s poem The Forest Fire, tells a similar message concerning the human condition by using a thematic statement. The details in both the poem and the painting display a fearsome mood among the animals. These pieces of art both illustrate animals doing different tasks while a fire has erupted, in order to stay alive. John Stone s poem and Piero Di Cosimo s painting shows that when people come to a difficult situation they react differently. Firstly, Piero Di Cosimo s painting The Forest Fire appropriately illustrates a dark and fearsome mood to contribute to the theme. Additionally, the lighting in the painting shows an average cloudy day while the center is very dark and black. The dark forest brings more attention to the animals inside of it. The animals in this forest appear to be heavily affected by the fire. The birds are scattered around and are returning to safety. There is one bull in the very front of the panting who seems ... • 29. All The World s A Stage And All Men And Women Shakespeare had said All the world s a stage and all men and women are merely players. Or rather, Jaques from As You Like It did, but that s besides the point. The point is that I was watching the Lego Movie. And oh my god is it the best movie ever. What makes it the best movie ever? Not only does it have a great message, it also actually inspired me to write this blog post. The movie, starts out to be your regular run of the mill animated comedy, and moves on to create a connection between the real human world and the Lego universe. What the cute little kid Finn imagines with his toys, translates into the actual movie we are watching, and the characters are living. A movie within a movie Movie ception! Which led me to thinking, maybe this bubble called life is nothing more than...a movie. A movie that we act in, direct, produce, write, create an original soundtrack of, so on...and finally view and review. So perhaps the point really was what Shakespeare had said. For him, life was a seven act play. And so it shall be for all you theatre lovers out there (I also speak to my own drama geek self). And for my blog post point of view and that of every single movie buff out there, life shall be a movie. Shakespeare said it, and now it s my turn. What is reality? How do we know that what we live in is real ? Life sometimes seems nothing more than just a dream. I have had many

I have learned so many things in the short time I ve been here, and have decided to share my findings with you! First off, Japan is actually made up of numerous islands, four main ones, and 2,456 smaller islands. Though this may sound cool and interesting, imagine having to govern 2,460 islands. I think that goes without saying that the geography played a huge impact on the Japanese government. However, they were able to get a few ideas from their neighboring countries, China and Korea. With that being said, I had noticed that the Japanese were very eager to emulate China. They started by converting their religion from Shinto, to Buddhism. Now that I think of it, the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the Heian Period, Japan began to lose respect for China when the nation s Buddhists were greatly mistreated. This loss of respect is what allowed Japan to follow their own path, going as far as rejecting any guidance from China. This period initiated the ascent of the Fujiwara regency. Though they were strong dictators, they were vital to the flourishing of the arts. This period was a time when society was very important to Japan s growth, since women were greatly involved. One of these women, Murasaki Shikibu, wrote Japan s first novel, Tale of Genji . In addition to literature, the Japanese also created the Zen Gardens. These gardens consisted of combed sand, perfectly trimmed bushes and trees, and strategically placed rocks. Though highly complex and structured, the purpose of these gardens was to allow the viewer s mind to slip into a state of meditative peace and serenity. Though there were great artistic achievements, Japan was recently faced intruders proposing a new religious message. Upon the arrival of Christian missionaries, in 1582CE, roughly 150,00 Japanese citizens converted. That s 2% of the population! Is this the rise of a new religion? I think not. Bakufu would not tolerate this influence, and eventually passed laws to prevent conversion, and the persecution of missionaries and Japanese Christians. I m afraid that s all I have for this trip, my friends! From the imitation of China to artistic achievements, Medieval Japan has proved to be a truly fascinating time in ... The Infrastructure of Cloud Computing Cloud computing refers to an internet based computing technology where shared servers provide infrastructure, software and various other resource to customers on a pay as use basis. Cloud users need not know how the resources are managed. Hence they can concentrate on the business functionality of the service rather than the underlying functionality involved in the management of the resources. These customers do not own the physical infrastructure, but rent these resources from a third party agency. This concept is widely utilised by the industry, government and in the educational sector due to the ability to provide robust, resilient and scalable computing power. The resources are provisioned to the user based on determining the required computing resources by the customer. Virtualisation is a powerful technology which makes modern computers versatile and powerful. This technology enables an on demand creation of a large number of virtual machines within a physical machine and can be implemented at the server level, OS level or at the application level. Server level virtualisation is done by emulating the underlying hardware by virtualisation software. This virtualisation software is referred as a Hypervisor or a Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM). The considerable dominant part of charges, more than 90 percent in numerous purviews, are settled through some sort of supplication deal, called a plea bargain. The Seventh Amendment of the Bill of Rights systematized it as a basic piece of Americans freedoms. At the point when large amounts of criminals were gotten and charged, the legislature experienced a trial and decision. However, in the 1800s, a pattern toward supplication started. Bradley gave away his right to appeal, attack or motion against any punishment or fine given unto him by the courts. Now in courts there is more pressure that influences the plea bargaining deals. Prosecutors do not have the time to go through a broad trial for each case, regardless of whether it a winnable case for the prosecutor. Current Law Numerous criminal cases are settled through a request deal, typically a long time before trial. In a plea deal, the defendant consents to confess to at least one charges, regularly to a lesser accusation than one for which the litigant could stand trial in return for a more tolerant sentence with the goal that specific related charges are rejected. Some random popular culture these past few years would be; The Hunger Games, dubstep, raving, Illuminati theories, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Gucci, Polo, and these are just a few things from popular culture these past years. Popular culture affected me in many ways. I would say comic books and super hero movies impacted me the most. Being grown with my mom and dad buying me Marvel comic books and for most times DC comic books as well. With movies coming out like Hulk, Spider Man, Iron Man, and many more. In my opinion I would say the Hero phase is the most popular trend. I say it s the most popular because society looks up to these people and want to help people out or whatever impact it has on them. Another thing from popular culture that I like is the music from the 90 s. Hip hop back then was real and ignorant. 90 s rap music has been my favorite since I was young . But now a days rap music is just for the audiences that are young. I been involved with almost anything in our culture . Games have been a big one too. Nintendo has set a lot of trends in the world.
