II. NANOWIRE SYNTHESIS
Many of the papers included in this survey concentrated on methods or materials used
to synthesize nanowires. Most nanowire synthesis occurs via Vapor LiquidSolid
(VLS) processes. VLS processes use a liquid catalyst to draw components out of a
vapor phase and deposit them in a solid phase. While terms such as laser ablation
and chemical vapor deposition may often be used to describe the synthesis
technique used in a particular experiment, this commonly refers only to the means
by which the vapor phase is produced or transported. For example, laser ablation
uses a laser to vaporize a source material, forming the vapor phase that is absorbed
and later deposited by the catalyst droplet as the nanowire grows.
Silicon nanowires often are synthesized through VLS processes [1 3]. Specifically, a
substrate is coated with gold nanoparticles and then heated until the gold melts and
forms tiny droplets. A silicon containing vapor, typically silane, or
SiH4, is then passed over the substrate. At the vapor gold interface, silicon atoms are
stripped from the silane and are absorbed into the nanoparticles. When the saturation
limit of silicon in gold has been reached, the silicon precipitates out of the droplet
onto the substrate.
This precipitate builds up and lifts the catalyst away from the substrate, giving

tell you about the original Proto Punk (a nascent predecessor of punk) band, the
intense, raucous and truly bizarre, The Stooges. Without this band would rock music
have turned out the same way we know it? Would the evolution of punk vary from

whether they were punk artists or artists that adopted the punk ethos, artists such as

The Use Of Diction And Tone In Edgar Guest s Do Not Hide
A colorless portrait displays a long haired woman, with a nearly emotionless smile
and a silhouette of her hands covering her face. In my eyes, this picture displays
the idea of expressing yourself, and showing the world who you truly are instead
of hiding behind your hands. Using this theme, I modeled my own poem, titled Do
Not Hide , after Edgar Guest s See It Through . His poem served as a great template
for mine, providing the perfect tone shifts and diction use to highlight his theme, and
neglecting many elements poems notoriously have. One aspect of Guest s poem
and my own is the use of diction and tone. Both of our poems contained tone shifts
that helped project our themes. His poem had a first stanza of hopefulness, a second
stanza of darkness and surrendering, and a third stanza that returns to hopefulness. I
copied this same template, have a first stanza about self pride, a second stanza about

sixteen. In these ten compulsory years, children are crammed full of knowledge.
Learning Mathematics, Sciences, Social Sciences, Languages, and Arts is a daily
occurrence; a parent looking at this curriculum might think their child is receiving a
well rounded and varied education. But is schoolreally preparing students for real life?

wonders are released into the world to get jobs, own houses, and raise families of

What about classes that teach our students how to be mentally healthy and remain
positive?
Even if we did have these classes it wouldn t benefit our kids because they re not
attending school. Every single day across the country in 2016, around 76,000
students were absent from class and according to OECD statistics, enrollment rates
are going down and 7% of fifteen to nineteen year olds are not enrolled in any form
of education, training, or employment. This is not good. We, as a nation, are losing
our motivation to learn.
In New Zealand, there are many various programs set up to help high school
dropouts and many apprenticeships advertised through schools for those who are
struggling academically. And whilst this is still necessary if we want to continue to
fight unemployment and homelessness, perhaps New Zealand needs to develop a
love of learning. Perhaps these programs offer a cushion for failure.
So if our culture doesn t offer the opportunity for success, how can we make a

Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the
side of white supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had

There are many techniques used in this film. Firstly the directors and their team
use a variety of different camera techniques to shape our view on the characters,
and ultimately change our view in the world. In the opening sequence each
character is introduced using different camera shots. For example Olive s father is
first projected to the audience as a success. There is a sequence of close ups and
mid ranged shots which show Richard confidently speaking in a spotlight at the
front of the room. However the cinematic team then use a cut to a point of view
shot of what Richard sees when he has finished talking, which allows us to then see
how much of a failure he really is, as there is only five, half asleep, bored people in
the room and only one person applauds Richards work. This first sequence allows
us to see that Richard acts and feels like a winner to himself, but when he is seen
with the rest of the world he is a failure and a loser. The directors have used this
sequence to shape our understanding of winning and losing as it employs the idea
that winning and losing is based on comparing yourself to the rest of the world,
instead of being on how you feel and view yourself.
