Prescribing Drugs And Its Effects On Children
Last year, I wrote about a scary trend in which doctors are prescribing powerful ADHD medications to
minors, whether they meet the ADHD diagnostic criteria or not. In that article, I noted that more than
70 percent of the children receiving ADHD medications in my home state, Oklahoma, do not meet
diagnostic criteria for ADHD, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Why, then,
are so many young people being medicated with these drugs? As I noted in the above piece, some
doctors are prescribing ADHD drugs to kids simply to help them get better grades in school. These
study drugs, common for years among the college set, are now being demanded by parents who want
their kids to get top scores, even at the elementary school level. But what are the risks? Well, besides
the many well known side effects, including stunted growth, sleep problems, personality changes,
suicidal thoughts, heart attacks and strokes, doctors have now added priapism and the possibility of
permanent erectile dysfunction to the list. ADHD drugs and priapism According to this press release
from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many ADHD drugs, including those containing
methylphenidate products, atomoxetine, and even those containing amphetamine products have been
reportedly linked to cases of priapism. What is priapism? That is a painful erection that will not go
away on its own and requires emergency medical treatment. Left untreated, priapism can lead to
permanent damage to

Call to Ministry
What is a call to the ministry ? by Ken Temple Regional Representative Southeast USA Frontiers
(770) 277 6399 ( office ) kentemple@juno.com What is a call to ministry ? Is it more subjective or
objective? It is just for preachers and pastors and missionaries, or is it also for the Christian
businessman and plumber, the housewife and mother? Is it only one s vocation, or does it also refer to
salvation and relationship with Christ ? Os Guinness, in his book, The Call, writes: Calling is the truth
that God calls us to Himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we
have is invested with a special devotion, dynamism, and direction lived out as a response to His
summons and service .[1] Calling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God wants more Christians to stay in the business world, the arts, entertainment, politics, journalism,
etc. and bring their Christian convictions and world view to bear on how they conduct their business,
write songs or films, or paint pictures. One of the reasons for the recent decline of Christian impact on
our culture is because too many Christians have left the fields of science, math, film, art, journalism,
and especially politics, and hence there was a vacuum left that the humanist, skeptic, atheist, and
agnostic filled. So, now when in recent years Christians have tried to boldly make an impact on
culture in these various fields, especially politics, we are finding the whole world view of our culture
has changed and the world view of absolutes, right and wrong, the Ten Commandments, prayer, belief
in God, convictions about abortion and homosexuality as sin are scoffed at, laughed at, labeled as
intolerant, and even pushed out by media blitz or ignoring the facts or not giving Christians
opportunity to voice their opinion. When considering a call to ministry, let me encourage you to not
dichotomize too sharply between the secular and sacred. God wants to use all kinds of vocations to
both disciple the nations ( Matt. 28:19 ) and be salt and light in the culture ( Matthew 5:13 16) and
have dominion and manage the earth (Genesis 1:26 28) Inner Calling and External Confirmation:

Why have you chosen to apply to the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business? What are your short and
long term career objectives? How will the program assist you in pursuing your career objectives?
Since deciding to attend law school, I have sought a position at a large company where I could utilize
my education and work ethic to build a career. Additionally, I have looked for an environment that
would allow me to continue to develop both personally and professionally. In working as an attorney
for the past two years, I have found a great interest in the field of taxation. Though approaching
taxation from a legal perspective has exposed me to a variety of tax issues, I have realized that my
interest lies in the numbers behind the taxes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When pressed further, he indicated that he thought his wife was too strict with the child and that was
his basis for claiming abuse. In order to address the issue, I explained to the client the consequences,
both legal and moral, to making false claims. I also reminded him of the philosophy that we agreed to
at the start of the representation. The client said that he understood but thought that making the claim
would be the only way to gain custody of his child. When I explained the other, more ethical options
available, he insisted that he continue with the claim. At that point, I informed him that I would have
to end my representation and that he would have to seek the assistance of another attorney. Although I
was able to terminate the representation without violating any of my ethical obligations, the situation
taught me some important lessons that I utilized later in my career. Primarily, I learned that potential
issues could be identified early and addressed before they escalated. In this case, the requests being
made by the client should have been an indication of his overall intention to conduct the divorce in an
unnecessarily aggressive manner not conducive to the health of himself and his family. When issues

Accreditation Research Project
April 25, 2011
Being accredited is how an institution is recognized as a university having a legitimate degree
program. The value of the degree you receive is based upon accreditation, college ranking, and the
perception of the institutions image in organizations and society. As my problem statement I would
like to find out what the value of accreditation is, what it takes to become accredited, maintain
accreditation, and why some degrees from accredited institutions are not recognized by other
institutions and business organizations. Some research objectives I would like to achieve would be to

According to an article written in the New York Times, and quoted in a higher education watchdog
website, scores of students are dropping out of the University of Phoenix, the largest chain of for
profit colleges in the country, fed up because their academic experiences bear no resemblance to the
promises that were made to them by duplicitous recruiters. Most of these students are leaving hugely
indebted. Contributing to the poor graduation rate, current and former students who studied at
University of Phoenix campuses or online complained of instructional shortcuts, unqualified
professors, and recruiting abuses (Burd, 1). There are some business organizations that do not
recognize them as a credible education system. For example, I worked for the insurance company
Geico, and they offered tuition reimbursement if you attend an accredited university. However
because of their unorthodox style of teaching, and not being a traditional four year university, they did
not recognize them as a legitimate university and would not reimburse any tuition.
All of the accrediting organizations are overseen by an organization called CHEA, the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation. CHEA ensures that all the regulations and standards are uniform
throughout the agencies, and based on their definition, all the organizations should

Beethoven and the Classical and Romantic Periods Essay
Out of all of Beethoven s one hundred and ten works, he wrote thirty two piano sonatas. Of those
thirty two piano sonatas, the thirty first piano sonata was one of the most important and was composed
in the year 1821towards the end of Beethoven s life. It is one of Ludwig van Beethoven s final sonatas
for the piano, given the full name: Piano Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, op. 110. I am writing about a
video performance found on YouTube by Richard Goode in 1993. The performance piece is a sonata
which is defined by Kerman as a chamber music piece in several movements (Kerman, 427) The thirty
first sonata came to be in an interesting way. Moritz Schlesinger, in the summer of 1819, had made a
request to Ludwig van Beethoven. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second movement launches itself at 6:48 in the video. Like the end of the first movement, the
second movement is loud. It is sudden and very, very noticeable. The second movement is also
marked allegro because of the quick, lively tempo that it has. Anyone should be able to easily tell
when the first movement transitions into the second movement. The third movement begins at 8:55
within the video. The third movement is an orderly part of the piece in which two slow sections of
arioso and two fast fugues alternate with one another. This movement begins with an arioso, and you
can tell because the beginning of it is quite slow especially when compared to the fast pace ending of
the second movement.
This sonata is based on two motifs, both of which you can find within the first movement. According
to author Charles Rosen, these two motifs are ascending or descending parallel fourths, and rising or
falling sixths in scale motion (Rosen, 235). The most noticeable of these motifs in the sonata are in the
recapitulation of the first movement and in the opening of the second movement which is expressed
with a six note falling scale motif. The ascending or descending parallel fourth motifs are present in
the main themes of the first movement and the fugue and in the popular theme of the scherzo. The
motifs of the rising sixths can be found in the first movement. The descending motifs which are

The Link Between Social Interactions Among Peers And...
Introduction
Problem Formulation
Researchers have been discussing the link between social interactions among peers in school and
academic outcomes for over 40 years (Coleman, 1961). Children are categorized by the people they
associate with. Understanding the way social interactions affect academic achievement is important.
Major issue in the literature on peer pressure quality special mention are: cultural patterns penalizing
academic achievement and changes in the effect of peers over time.
Academics argue that peer pressure effects become important during adolescence (Steinberg, 1996).
Some literature says that is a cultural pattern within the African American and Latino population
where students discourage academic achievement (Ogbu, 1986). The purpose of this study is to
explain academic achievement by analyzing four factors: the peer pressure effect on students, gender,
and student s particular interest for education compared to their peers, and race and ethnicity.
This research relates to social work in many ways. Social workers find this research important because
during the adolescent stage, students are finding their own personal identity and their identity among
their peers. Students are also learning how to socialize. They socialize with peers who may share the
same goals as one another. Students may also socialize with those peers that have the same intellectual
vocabulary as one another.

The Fat Boy Analysis
The Fat Boy by Owen Marshall is a short story that shows how society in this text influences people
and also highlights the mob mentality of the community. The plot of the text is that the townsfolk
bring into being a fictional personality The Fat Boy , whom they use as a scapegoat for their crimes.
Despite knowing the truth the townsfolk blindly follow the mob, The Fat Boy eventually becomes a
reminder of the towns folks conscience, therefore, to get rid of the constant reminder they get rid of
The Fat Boy. Hence the text also shows how the loss of conscience affects the community negatively
as the whole town choose to turn a blind eye towards the truth. Through the text Marshall reveals to us
the tribal nature of small town behaviour or mob mentality which is shown right from the beginning,
where the text shows twisted equality as the townsfolk are following each other in the crimes, the
crimes becoming greater as the text proceeds: The Fat Boy is scapegoated for thievery followed by
arson, murder, domestic violence, and rape. It is the mentality of he did it so why can t I do it too that
the townsfolk use as an excuse to continue committing crimes, which is part of our nature as we tend
to follow this mentality too, which shows how the mob has influenced members negatively. In the text
we realise The Fat Boy is not real is by the way the people describe him The Fat Boy watched the
passersby with the Frog like, faintly enquiring look that the faces of fat boys have. The

Classroom Management Plan For A Classroom
Classroom management is a key component to having a successful classroom that promotes learning
for all students. Every teacher should have a plan for how there is going to run their classroom, as well
as knowing what expectations they are going to set for their students. Considering students will have
expectations for the teacher, teachers need to know how they are going to meet those expectations of
every student. How a classroom is set up, the rules and routines, and policies that are going to be in
place are all aspects that contribute to managing a classroom.
In my future classroom, my classroom management plan will be based on setting high expectations for
my students so they will self discipline themselves. This aligns with Freiberg s consistency
management model. I will involve my students in creating the classroom rules and the consequences
that go along with them. My management plan will align with the school adopted classroom
management program, but I will adjust it to fit my individual classroom and students. I think that
allowing students to create them will promote higher reasoning as to why they should follow them. I
like the idea of having each student create a consequence that goes into a box. When someone is not
following the rules they will have to draw out a consequence that could vary from a little punishment
to a big consequence, since the students made them up. Students will want to follow the rules since
they do not know what kind of

Oligopoly Case Digest Analysis
A. Collectively there are four major pieces of legislation that make us the Antitrust Laws: The
Sherman Act of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914, the Federal Trade Commission act of 1914 and the
Celler Kefauver Act of 1950. The purpose of these acts and laws is to regulate trade and commerce by
preventing unlawful restrictions, price fixing and monopolies; their goal is to promote competition and
to encourage the production of quality goods and serves at reasonable prices while safeguarding the
public welfare, while ensuring consumer demand is met via the production and sale of those goods at
reasonably low prices. Enforcement of the antitrust laws depends largely on two agencies: the Federal

A Monopoly refers to a market where by there is one or limited suppliers of a given commodity to the

b. An Oligopoly refers to a market structure where by the suppliers have formed some form of cartel

commodity and may set any price.
This is where industry regulations come. The regulations discourages the monopolies and oligopolies
from charging unfair prices for their products.
C. Primarily there are two federal and one state regulatory commissions that govern industrial

a. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commissions (FERC) formally known as the Federal Power

The Four Stages In Ovid s Metamorphoses
Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher born in 570 B.C.E. In Ovid s the Metamorphoses, Pythagoras
discusses a variety of beliefs including the four ages of man, autogenesis, and vegetarianism.
The four stages of man as described by Pythagoras states, that the year displays four aspects, passing
through them, in a semblance of our life. Each season represents a different aspect of man. Spring is a
delicate time of year full of new beginnings and hope. Summer is described as powerful, rich, and
expansive. Fall is the time between youth and age. Pythagoras describes winter as hair turning white.

Pythagoras had fled Samos because the leaders were tyrants. By ws exiled, but he continued to visit
the gods in thought. He would preach his views to the people. Pythagoras believed that it was a
disgrace to eat meat. His excuse for not eating meat was that the earth provides crops and we should
use these to our advantage and not shed the blood of animals. Pythagoras believes(VOTH) that flesh is
the diet of a beast and that only a beast is not full until it eats the flesh of another. He says that
creatures that want to kill us should be killed, but not eaten. Pythagoras calls eating animals for food
wicked and says those who eat meat not worthy of crops. While although I do feel pity for animals
and cruelty done to them by humans, I am not a vegetarian. It is necessary to eat meat to consume
certain proteins needed by our bodies. The circle of life allows for the predators to eat their prey.
Humans do defy this stereotype due to technology, since there is no animal predator to us. However I
do believe that animals can t be hunted to extinction. There should be boundaries when we use
animals as our food source. As for the agriculture, we do eat crops and meat. This maintains an

The Confederate Flag Essay
The Confederate Flag
On January 1992 the NAACP put in affect a boycott on South Carolina to pressure the state to remove
the Confederate flag off of its Statehouse in Columbia. The boycott is what initially brought life to this
issue. The NAACP s removal request is based on the fact that they, the anti flag groups, claim that the
meaning of the Confederate flag is one of hate and discrimination. On the other hand, there are other
groups that believe differently whom are called the pro flag groups. They claim that the Confederate
flag is a sign of heritage and should stay on South Carolina s Statehouse. Anti flag articles are more

This viewpoint can be found in Eric Foner s article Rebel Yell which is published in a well known
liberal magazine The Nation. Foner who is a historian believes that the main cause of the Civil War
was the South s opposition to freeing slaves. He states that slavery was the big reason why the Civil
War was started and that all of the other issues stemmed off of it. This view is shared among the anti
flag supporters as seen in this quotation from another anti flag article. Try as we may to pretend that
slavery wasn t a big issue as any other, the truth is, had the South been agreeable to the idea of ending
slavery, then the civil war may very well have never happened (Amy par. 2). Foner then uses logos by
explaining how the Declaration of the Immediate Causes of Secession shows evidence of this in its
causes of secession. To understand what the flag now flying in Columbia represents, one need only
read the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession, adopted by South Carolina secession
convention in December 1860 (Foner par. 2). Foner gives some examples of the declaration being
about slavery by quoting some things it stated, and one quotation out of the Declaration of Immediate
Causes of Secession is about Lincoln being a man whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery
(Foner par. 2). This quote proves that South Carolina was seceding because of Lincoln s

Lufthansa
In January 1985, a German company that uses Deutschmarks made a large purchase from a U.S.
company that uses U.S. dollars, and needed to evaluate the best hedging alternatives to secure the least
possible cost. The Chairman of Lufthansa, Herr Heinz Ruhnau, purchased twenty 737 jets from
Boeing. The total purchase price was $500,000,000, which was payable in U.S. dollars on delivery of
the aircrafts in one year.
Chairman Ruhnau chose a partial cover by hedging 50% of the exposure with forward contracts,
which was $250 million at the one year forward rate of DM3.2/$. He left the remaining 50% ($250

This steady rise showed the U.S. dollar was strong and would steadily increase or fluctuate around at a

Scenario 3: The U.S. dollar may decrease
Even though Ruhnau and many others expected the U.S. dollar to decrease, there was no way of
knowing with absolute certainty that would come to fruition and how much it would actually fall.
Ruhnau needed to make a decision with the information he had.
Forecasting
There are various forecasting techniques, which include the Efficient Markets Approach, the
Fundamental Approach, and the Technical Approach. Even if Ruhnau researched and followed these
methods, they would still not predict with certainty the future U.S. dollar rate. They would either
confirm or counter his expectations and he would need to make a decision without being able to
accurately predict the future exchange rate. There are also other factors that could dramatically affect
the U.S. dollar or German Deutschmark, such as unexpected events which could make significant
impacts in appreciation or depreciation.
Necessity, Timing, and Purchase Price
In the 1980 s, Lufthansa increased the number of non stop connections and more dense route networks

Causes Of The British War Memorials
1. The British war memorials allowed many people to openly grieve and remember the thousands of
soldiers who lost their lives. It allowed millions of people to come to terms with the loss, isolate it,
and establish its limits. War memorials became the place people grieved individually or as a group. 2.
The First World War is what many have called total war, which means it was the first industrialized
war among industrialized powers. The war material that could be produced by those powers increased
by a factor of thousands with the weaponry and the projectiles that were fired at two sides. The 10
million that died in the First World War was by far the largest toll of deaths because of the enormous
weight of material that was turned into artillery. In 1914, this was the beginning of mass death. There
was no place to put the bodies (if they could be found) of so many; this created a situation that made it
impossible to literally mourn the dead. The notion of a ritual set of practices that had been in existence
for centuries collapsed completely during this traumatic time period. 3. The similarities of the Tombs
of the Unknown all represent fallen soldier(s). Most are guarded 24 hour a day. It wasn t until 1920
when the idea came about to honor the fallen with tombs and within a few short years all countries had
their own tombs developed for their fallen soldiers. The differences are some tombs are elaborate with

Decline Roman Empire
In the period circa 600 B.C.E to 600 C.E., imperial decline and collapse was caused partly by over
expansion, a failing economy due to overspending, and external invasions by barbarian tribes as
shown by the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 C.E..
One main cause of the decline and collapse of the Roman Empire was over expansion of territory
which led to the empire becoming too large to govern successfully and overall decentralization. At its
zenith during Pax Romana, the empire extended from the Atlantic Ocean to the Euphrates River in the
Middle East and also consisted of parts of North Africa. As the empire began expanding farther from
its administrative center, the Romans were unable to communicate quickly or effectively enough in
order to control their territory. With such a vast empire, Romans struggled to deploy sufficient troops
and resources to defend the borders and frontiers from rebellions and external invasions. This also led
to the emperor, Hadrian, building his famous wall in order to protect the British Isles from foreign
attacks. Furthermore, the Roman Empire became comprised of many different cultures as it expanded.

Money was spend on constant wars, the extravagant lifestyle of the rich and emperors, and welfare for
the many unemployed Romans. In addition to this, since there was little expansion towards the later
years of the empire, there was no more war plunder to be gained. These factors led to massive
inflation, people buying fewer goods, a lack of trade, and overtaxing the poor. Oppressive taxing of
peasants also led to a wide gap between the rich and the poor. Many jobs done by lower classes were
also lost to slaves and over reliance on free labor led to increased unemployment and further

City Of Granada, Spain-Spanish Essay
The city of Granada, Spain was the last Muslim shelter in Spain, in this way assuming a tremendous
part in the period of investigation. Ferdinand and Isabella, Spanish rulers, determined the issues by
reconquering the domains. In 1492, Granada fell totally under Spanish control. In any case, it was then
that Columbus voyage would turn into a reality rather than only a dream.
The Granada Cathedral is Spain s unique Renaissance church. The church is the seat of the
Archdiocese of Granada. As proof from the terrific vaults and sections, the house of God had both
Gothic and Renaissance impacts.

Non Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within
a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. Per
Coontz (2010) The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would
become in the nineteenth century. (p. 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be
separate or not included as part of a family household. Over time, the term family came to encompass
the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900
s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these
included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and same sex couple and parent
households. Today, American ideas of what constitutes a family have drastically expanded to include
these formerly non traditional families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was mostly due to socio economic need. Their husbands were more accepting of this as it
benefited the entire family. Slavery having rendered black men and women equally powerless, had
leveled the gender playing field within the black community. (Franklin, 2010, p. 65) There was a sharp
difference in marriage rates of black and white women activists in the early 20th century. The amount
of black married women activists was double that of white women activists A reason for this disparity,
being that white women were more likely to buy into the notion that a woman s place was in the home
and many believed this to be a more ideal situation. This traditional marriage has been described as an
exchange of a male s economic resources for a female s social and domestic services (Franklin, 2010,

Paris in the 1920ā€™s ā€“ ā€œThe Lost Generationā€ Essay
Paris in the 1920 s The Lost Generation
Between the end of the First World War and Hitler s seizure of power a cultural explosion occurred in
Paris that altered our notions of art and reality and shaped our way of viewing the world ever since. In
the 1920 s, Paris became the undisputed international capital of pleasure and was regarded as the
cultural and artistic center of Europe with a reputation for staging one of its most glamorous eras, as
well as some of the most spectacular revues in the world. Imagine for a moment, that it really is 1920

By the end of the decade, statistics revealed that there were as many as thirty thousand artists in Paris
alone.
The Lost Generation is essentially a term that is used to describe the young adults of the 1920 s who
were changing with the times and rebelling against what America had become after the war. They
populated areas like Paris and London where they expected to find literary freedom and a
cosmopolitan way of life. The Lost Generation of American writers and poets left America, seeking
refuge from the broken culture and devastation that had come from the war, and ended up in Paris, a
city that had a thriving art culture where they could write freely and lavish in the Bohemian lifestyle
without rules. They drank, traveled, had love affairs, and wrote. They were influenced by the paintings
of artists like Dada and Picasso and collected their works, as well as socialized with them. They
critiqued each other s writing and often met in bookstores, cafƩs, and bars to talk about their works
and life in general. They had mostly upper middle class upbringings and were sustained in hard times
by their parents fortunes. They chose to come to Paris to seek artistic fulfillment and ended up writing
what is possibly considered some of the best fiction of the 20th century. It was the time when writers,
painters, musicians, and composers went to Paris to work and

Tijuana Straits, By Kem Nunn
People do not always get to have the fairytale life they once dreamed of. Life comes with many
struggles, but people can overcome them if they really want to. They choose to follow a certain path in
their life, which at times it can be good or bad. In the book, Tijuana Straits , by Kem Nunn, the author
explains the different life experiences of certain characters in the book and how their life ended up.
Unlike a fairytale, he gives the different perspective and point of views of the characters. Nunn gave
enough information to know how the character s lives ended up the way it did. The characters, Fahey,
Armando, and Magdalena, were each described with a different persona so that each one sticks out
different than the other. Nunn gave the point of view of the characters so the readers can get a sense of
what each one of them is thinking of. There s a character named Fahey, an ex surfer who took the
wrong path and ended up owning and working in his worm farm, which is basically the protagonist in
the book. Fahey s life was described as a rollercoaster and he went into detail about it. Nunn states,
The man was so pissed about not getting more mileage out of a second offense that he kept Fahey in a
county lockup for six months awaiting transfer and another six in what they euphemistically called bus
therapy that is, in constant motion, from one facility to another, all the way to Leavenworth and back
again. (77). Nunn describes a scene in which Fahey was arrested for

Barrel Racing Essay
Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern in
the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good athletic
ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through the barrels.
The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a flagger in the
ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish line. There is a
person that starts and stops the timer when that flag is waved.
This event was originally made for women. When barrel racing first started the pattern fluctuated
between a figure eight pattern and the clover leaf that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fastest time gets a half of a second added onto it to make the 2D division. Then the fastest 1D
time gets a whole second added to it to make the 3D division. The 4D division is one and a half
seconds added to the fastest time of the whole event.
There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren t
judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they get
a no time score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get a five
second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a sixty
second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to be
metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a long
sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western boots. The
contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event.
There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn t any rule that says
what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others. The
type of bit used is determined by the riders based on the horses needs. Bits with longer shanks cause
the horse to stop faster and bits with shorter shanks are used for more lateral work. Other things are

The Importance Of Sea Turtles
Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups. They are classified as amniotes. They have existed a long
time ago, which means they have seen the rise and fall of the dinosaurs and the rise of humanity.
Scientists think that turtles have existed for around 157 million years (mosaic 29). Approximately, sea
turtles were 65 million years ago (Dobbs 1). This family has survived the passage of time and is
threatened by the contamination that humans have created in the ocean. The six sea turtles that occur
on the coasts of America are in fact threatened. Sea turtles are very important for the ecosystem, but
humans, directly and indirectly, endanger this family. If humans do not stop their destructive habits,
we can lose the influence of sea turtles on seafarers. Sea turtles play an important role in the ecology
of the ocean, and without turtles, we can see an ecological collapse in the oceans. Sea turtles are one
of the few animals in the sea that eat sea grass (Godfrey). Sea turtles act as grazing animals that cut
short grass and help maintain the health of the family of seaweed (Godfrey). In recent decades, there
has been a decline in the sea grass family. This decrease may be related to the decrease in the number
of sea turtles (Godfrey). Sea grass is important because it is a fertile ground for many species of fish,
shellfish and crustaceans (Godfrey). The beaches and sand dunes are known for not having many
nutrients. When the sea turtles reach the land, they bury their eggs

Battle of Wanat
On July 13, 2008, Taliban fighters launched a major assault on a small U.S. Army outpost in
Afghanistan, killing nine soldiers and wounding 27. The story of Wanat is more then just one small
group of commanders mistakes; it is a window into how the war in Afghanistan went awry and how
we can learn from these mistakes to better future missions and future leaders.
Combat Outpost Kahler was a small, remote outpost in northeast Afghanistan adjacent to the village of
Wanat in the Nuristan Province, manned by 48 U.S soldiers and 24 Afghanistan National Army
soldiers and their three U.S Marine Corp advisors. It was attacked on July 13, 2008 by a significantly

and hotel, and was near the local District Center and Afghan National police station. The site selected
was on a plateau where two valleys met and was surrounded by mountains and low ground, resulting
in extensive dead space an area that cannot be visually observed around the position. The Battalion s
plan to realign within the Wygal Valley and establish a combat outpost at Wanat was a two part
operation called Operation Rock Move. The Concept of Operations covered a 3 day period from July
8 10, 2008, and addressed the simultaneous disestablishment of combat outpost Bella and the initial

Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On A Company s...
To what extent is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) beneficial to a company s performance?
Sub prompt: Evaluate how CSR can be beneficial to company s financial performance.
1. Introduction Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become more influential when making
company s decisions. 53% of the S P, an index based on market capitalizations of 500 U.S. companies,
has published CSR reports in 2012 as compared to 19% in 2011. An approach, suggested by Business

Section three comments the limitations of empirical findings and CSR.
2. Impacts on Financial Performance
2.1 Cost Companies committed to CSR are expected to reduce operating costs. One of the key areas in
CSR practices is paying attention to environmental issues such as energy saving and avoidance of
excessive use of inputs. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less energy and water
lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials helps to reduce
production cost.
Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and
Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt CSR
measures. Customers are more willing to spend on products that are produced by companies with
good brand images. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand image with the
scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing retailer is found to break
its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working conditions. When BBC revealed the
dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in information and advertising campaigns to
restore consumer loyalty. It implies that a socially responsible firm that follows CSR practices can
have less risk of negative rare events and thus avoid unnecessary cost.

Figurative Language In The Yearling
Winning the Pulitzer Prize is like winning the Heisman Trophy. In that regard, Marjorie Kinnan
Rawlings is comparable to Nile Kinnick. Kinnick won the Heisman in 1939 for his hard work,
dedication, and ability to play football. Rawlings won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 for her novel, The
Yearling, for her deliberate use of sensory details, figurative language, and artful syntax. The
appliance of sensory details throughout the novel enhance the story by depicting a vivid image of the
characters and their situations. On page 224, Rawlings describes the events of the morning of the
storm. The fawn came to Jody s bed and poked its muzzle against his face. The contrast of the wet,
cold nose and Jody s warm face simulate the change of the setting from calm and warm to story and
cold. Earlier in the story, Jody is once again sleeping, but this time on the river on page 6. There were
no black boles of live oaks, no glossy green of magnolia leaves, no pattern of gold lace where the sun
had sifted through the branches of the wild cherry. The sensory details of the fading reality epitomize
the dreamland that Jody is drifting off to. In addition to the sensory details, the asyndeton contributes
to the relatable feeling of thoughts turning to dreams as sleep takes over the mind. The most effective
use of sensory details occurs on page 224 as Jody wakes up the morning of the storm. The morning,
however, was clear, but the east was the color of blood. The distinct image of the sun

The Theme of Inequality in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird
Inequality is a theme that runs throughout all of history. Harper Lee uses the theme of inequality in her
book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Tom Robinson must deal with inequality when he is accused of a crime
he didn t commit because no one will trust a black man over a white man. The Cunningham family
must face discrimination because of their lack of money. Scout even faces inequality when she tries to
play with Jem and Dill. The theme of inequality is a strong one in Lee s book, and her use of
inequality doesn t only define racism, but also discrimination based on wealth and gender.
To Kill a Mockingbird is set in Maycomb County, Alabama in the 1930s. There is a myriad of families
in this small county. Blacks, farmers, businessmen, and strong single women all call Maycomb
County home. The book is told from the point of view of a little girl named Jean Louise Finch, or as
many of the townspeople call her, Scout. Her father, whom they call Atticus, raises her with her
brother Jem. A majority of the book deals with the trial of Tom Robinson, during which Scout begins
to understand that not everybody is as fair as Atticus, raised Jem and her to be.
Unquestionably, the biggest form of inequality in To Kill a Mockingbird is racism against African
Americans. Scout never discriminated against blacks like the other people in town because of her
interaction with Calpurnia; however she catches her first glimpse of racism after her father decides to
take the case of Tom Robinson.

The Ethics Of Environmental Ethics
Environmental Ethics This research will be based on two types of theories. These theories will be the
guiding approaches that will be used in order to come up with the real issue at hand and also be able to
provide a solution for the same. The first of the two approaches will be deontological approach and the
other will be utilitarianism approach. Therefore, to better understand how to use these two approaches,
it is better to first discuss them briefly and have a better understanding of what they are. Deontological
Approach Deontological comes from two Greek word. The first word is deon which when interpreted
means duty or responsibility. This word is used to mean what one ought to do or is obligated to do.
The other word is logos which when interpreted means study. Therefore, this may be literally be
interpreted as the duty of study or the responsibility to study. Deontological is a normative theory
which examines the choices we make and regards which one are morally required or permitted or
which one are forbidden (Cohen,1997). Deontological theorists are those theorists who judge our
actions on what we are supposed or should do and not what we may do. They judge these actions of
what we ought to do regardless of the consequences of the action. These means that the actions are not
justified by the consequences but rather by themselves. One ought not to examine what they are
obligated to do on the basis of the results the action will bring but rather on the actions

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay
It is hypothesized that when the subject implements the mindfulness intervention she will experience
less rumination. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will also improve
her SWB.
Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an
evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for emotional
dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes education about the
client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between specific thoughts and
feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely notice their thoughts and
avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings of negative self worth, guilt
and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to research from six randomized
controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy was
shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams Kuyken, 2012).
Rumination is considered a negative attentional focus on the origin and ramifications of emotions
which lasts for an extended amount of time ( Nolen Hoeksema, 1991). Rumination is often correlated
with symptom of depression and anxiety. Specifically, rumination is operationalized as repetitive and
intrusive thoughts about a previous personal experience. The rumination period can last anywhere
from a day

The Hardship of Haiti Essay
Haiti is a beautiful Caribbean country that has had more than its fair share of hardship. A culture of
strength and perseverance is evident from the moment one arrives and it only feels stronger the further
one travels from Port au Prince. The people are of African descent, with a strong French influence
creating a uniquely mixed culture that is rare in the western hemisphere. The business climate is such
that there are very few foreign businesses or joint ventures in Haiti and although there are many
historic reasons for that, there now sits immense opportunity. First mover advantage is only an
advantage if the first mover is successful. A firm in the initial stages of market research into Haiti will
be drawn to the dream of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safety and security is a big risk in most underdeveloped nations, and Haiti is riskier than most.
Finally, the provision of broad based orientation to this new market as it applies directly to business
operations in this new market.
History
Understanding Haiti s past will grant an ideal window into the cultural soul of this nation and may aid
in a deeper realization of why many things appear as they do in this country. Cultural intelligence is
defined as an individual s capability to function and manage effectively in culturally diverse setting
(Ahn Ettner, 2013). This is a highly sought after skill in the interconnected world of globalization
where this individual appears to hold a seemingly natural ability to interpret someone s unfamiliar and
ambiguous gestures in just the way that person s compatriots and colleagues would (Ahn Ettner,
2013). Having an individual with these skills in a firm would reduce the likelihood of communicating
a cultural faux pas that would inadvertently hinder business relations. Gaining knowledge will greatly
contribute to the competitive advantage of a firm. To understand Haiti, one must start in 1492, when
the Island of Hispaniola was first discovered by Christopher Columbus (Central, n.d.). In the initial 25
years of Spanish control of the island the Spanish settlers killed off almost all of the indigenous people
who had originally occupied the island (Central, n.d.). In 1697, Spain ceded to

Informative Essay On Supernatural
Informative Essay
Supernatural is a television series produced by Warner Bros. staring Jared Padaleki and Jensen Ackles.
The show is about two brothers who hunt supernatural (hints the name) things. Jared plays the little
brother, Sam Winchester, and Jensen plays the big brother Dean Winchester. Sam and Dean s mother
was killed on Sam s 6 month birthday by a special demon with yellow eyes. The demon went into
Sam s room and Mary went to check on him. When she saw a figure standing there, she assumed it
was her husband John Winchester, until she went downstairs and saw John watching TV. She
immediately knew that Sam was in trouble but when she went in Sam s room she was thrown to the
ceiling and burned. John saved the boys and was bent on revenge ... Show more content on

This also means there is 11 complete seasons, and they are filming season 12 now. Each season had its
own problem, but they are all connected, making the show complicated but really good (in my
opinion). Each season has around 20 23 episodes. If you watch it on the TV, it plays on Thursdays,
7:00 8:00 central time, on The CW. Supernatural is around the top 9th longest running TV show.
Jensen and Jared (the main characters) both have things they support, like charities. They both have
charities, and campaigns they start. Jensen has three children and a wife. Jared has two children and a
wife. Fun fact: Jared s wife, Genevieve Cortese, was actually on the show, playing a demon named

Determination, Discipline, And Dedication
Determination, discipline, and dedication are the three keys to Doctor Sampson (Sam) Davis success.
Growing up in the streets of Newark was not easy for any child, pre teen, teen, and adult, especially
for Davis but with the three D s to success he speaks of in The Pact: Three Young Men Make a
Promise and Fulfill a Dream, shows that anyone can succeed when you have friends to help you
through it all. Even though Davis did not have a perfect childhood, determination, dedication and
discipline would help push him. Davis, as a child, has seen what describes a dysfunctional family and
has witnessed many traits of physical, mental, and verbal abuse between his mother and father; Your
daddy ain t shit, and, Your mama ain t shit (Davis 19). In some instances, the violence was so severe
that the use of a firearm or the destruction of property occurred. Davis father would divorce from his
mother but, attempt to be there for his children, yet the divorce still took an emotional toll on the kids.
As for Davis, he would bury his feelings, to get over the divorce. Davis acknowledged his mother
lacked an adequate education, thus, this motivated him to become well educated. However, acquiring
adult responsibilities, such as writing and making bank deposits and reading important documents to
his illiterate was a grand task for a young child. Times were getting harder for Davis family and lack
of funds meant utilities could not be paid; his family would be powerless. Even through

  • 2. Prescribing Drugs And Its Effects On Children Last year, I wrote about a scary trend in which doctors are prescribing powerful ADHD medications to minors, whether they meet the ADHD diagnostic criteria or not. In that article, I noted that more than 70 percent of the children receiving ADHD medications in my home state, Oklahoma, do not meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Why, then, are so many young people being medicated with these drugs? As I noted in the above piece, some doctors are prescribing ADHD drugs to kids simply to help them get better grades in school. These study drugs, common for years among the college set, are now being demanded by parents who want their kids to get top scores, even at the elementary school level. But what are the risks? Well, besides the many well known side effects, including stunted growth, sleep problems, personality changes, suicidal thoughts, heart attacks and strokes, doctors have now added priapism and the possibility of permanent erectile dysfunction to the list. ADHD drugs and priapism According to this press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many ADHD drugs, including those containing methylphenidate products, atomoxetine, and even those containing amphetamine products have been reportedly linked to cases of priapism. What is priapism? That is a painful erection that will not go away on its own and requires emergency medical treatment. Left untreated, priapism can lead to permanent damage to ... • 3. Call to Ministry What is a call to the ministry ? by Ken Temple Regional Representative Southeast USA Frontiers (770) 277 6399 ( office ) kentemple@juno.com What is a call to ministry ? Is it more subjective or objective? It is just for preachers and pastors and missionaries, or is it also for the Christian businessman and plumber, the housewife and mother? Is it only one s vocation, or does it also refer to salvation and relationship with Christ ? God wants more Christians to stay in the business world, the arts, entertainment, politics, journalism, etc. and bring their Christian convictions and world view to bear on how they conduct their business, write songs or films, or paint pictures. One of the reasons for the recent decline of Christian impact on our culture is because too many Christians have left the fields of science, math, film, art, journalism, and especially politics, and hence there was a vacuum left that the humanist, skeptic, atheist, and agnostic filled. So, now when in recent years Christians have tried to boldly make an impact on culture in these various fields, especially politics, we are finding the whole world view of our culture has changed and the world view of absolutes, right and wrong, the Ten Commandments, prayer, belief in God, convictions about abortion and homosexuality as sin are scoffed at, laughed at, labeled as intolerant, and even pushed out by media blitz or ignoring the facts or not giving Christians opportunity to voice their opinion. When considering a call to ministry, let me encourage you to not dichotomize too sharply between the secular and sacred. Most of these students are leaving hugely indebted. Contributing to the poor graduation rate, current and former students who studied at University of Phoenix campuses or online complained of instructional shortcuts, unqualified professors, and recruiting abuses (Burd, 1). Of those thirty two piano sonatas, the thirty first piano sonata was one of the most important and was composed in the year 1821towards the end of Beethoven s life. It is one of Ludwig van Beethoven s final sonatas for the piano, given the full name: Piano Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, op. 110. I am writing about a video performance found on YouTube by Richard Goode in 1993. The performance piece is a sonata which is defined by Kerman as a chamber music piece in several movements (Kerman, 427) The thirty first sonata came to be in an interesting way. Like the end of the first movement, the second movement is loud. It is sudden and very, very noticeable. The second movement is also marked allegro because of the quick, lively tempo that it has. Anyone should be able to easily tell when the first movement transitions into the second movement. The third movement begins at 8:55 within the video. The third movement is an orderly part of the piece in which two slow sections of arioso and two fast fugues alternate with one another. This movement begins with an arioso, and you can tell because the beginning of it is quite slow especially when compared to the fast pace ending of the second movement. This sonata is based on two motifs, both of which you can find within the first movement. According to author Charles Rosen, these two motifs are ascending or descending parallel fourths, and rising or falling sixths in scale motion (Rosen, 235). The most noticeable of these motifs in the sonata are in the recapitulation of the first movement and in the opening of the second movement which is expressed with a six note falling scale motif. The ascending or descending parallel fourth motifs are present in the main themes of the first movement and the fugue and in the popular theme of the scherzo. • 8. The Link Between Social Interactions Among Peers And... Introduction Problem Formulation Researchers have been discussing the link between social interactions among peers in school and academic outcomes for over 40 years (Coleman, 1961). Children are categorized by the people they associate with. Understanding the way social interactions affect academic achievement is important. Major issue in the literature on peer pressure quality special mention are: cultural patterns penalizing academic achievement and changes in the effect of peers over time. Academics argue that peer pressure effects become important during adolescence (Steinberg, 1996). Some literature says that is a cultural pattern within the African American and Latino population where students discourage academic achievement (Ogbu, 1986). The purpose of this study is to explain academic achievement by analyzing four factors: the peer pressure effect on students, gender, and student s particular interest for education compared to their peers, and race and ethnicity. This research relates to social work in many ways. Social workers find this research important because during the adolescent stage, students are finding their own personal identity and their identity among their peers. Students are also learning how to socialize. They socialize with peers who may share the same goals as one another. Students may also socialize with those peers that have the same intellectual vocabulary as one another. Literature Review Introduction The purpose of this study is to ... • 9. The Fat Boy Analysis The Fat Boy by Owen Marshall is a short story that shows how society in this text influences people and also highlights the mob mentality of the community. The plot of the text is that the townsfolk bring into being a fictional personality The Fat Boy , whom they use as a scapegoat for their crimes. Despite knowing the truth the townsfolk blindly follow the mob, The Fat Boy eventually becomes a reminder of the towns folks conscience, therefore, to get rid of the constant reminder they get rid of The Fat Boy. Hence the text also shows how the loss of conscience affects the community negatively as the whole town choose to turn a blind eye towards the truth. Through the text Marshall reveals to us the tribal nature of small town behaviour or mob mentality which is shown right from the beginning, where the text shows twisted equality as the townsfolk are following each other in the crimes, the crimes becoming greater as the text proceeds: The Fat Boy is scapegoated for thievery followed by arson, murder, domestic violence, and rape. It is the mentality of he did it so why can t I do it too that the townsfolk use as an excuse to continue committing crimes, which is part of our nature as we tend to follow this mentality too, which shows how the mob has influenced members negatively. Every teacher should have a plan for how there is going to run their classroom, as well as knowing what expectations they are going to set for their students. Considering students will have expectations for the teacher, teachers need to know how they are going to meet those expectations of every student. How a classroom is set up, the rules and routines, and policies that are going to be in place are all aspects that contribute to managing a classroom. In my future classroom, my classroom management plan will be based on setting high expectations for my students so they will self discipline themselves. This aligns with Freiberg s consistency management model. I will involve my students in creating the classroom rules and the consequences that go along with them. My management plan will align with the school adopted classroom management program, but I will adjust it to fit my individual classroom and students. I think that allowing students to create them will promote higher reasoning as to why they should follow them. I like the idea of having each student create a consequence that goes into a box. When someone is not following the rules they will have to draw out a consequence that could vary from a little punishment to a big consequence, since the students made them up. Foner who is a historian believes that the main cause of the Civil War was the South s opposition to freeing slaves. He states that slavery was the big reason why the Civil War was started and that all of the other issues stemmed off of it. This view is shared among the anti flag supporters as seen in this quotation from another anti flag article. Try as we may to pretend that slavery wasn t a big issue as any other, the truth is, had the South been agreeable to the idea of ending slavery, then the civil war may very well have never happened (Amy par. 2). Foner then uses logos by explaining how the Declaration of the Immediate Causes of Secession shows evidence of this in its causes of secession. To understand what the flag now flying in Columbia represents, one need only read the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession, adopted by South Carolina secession convention in December 1860 (Foner par. 2). Foner gives some examples of the declaration being about slavery by quoting some things it stated, and one quotation out of the Declaration of Immediate Causes of Secession is about Lincoln being a man whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery (Foner par. 2). It allowed millions of people to come to terms with the loss, isolate it, and establish its limits. War memorials became the place people grieved individually or as a group. 2. The First World War is what many have called total war, which means it was the first industrialized war among industrialized powers. The war material that could be produced by those powers increased by a factor of thousands with the weaponry and the projectiles that were fired at two sides. The 10 million that died in the First World War was by far the largest toll of deaths because of the enormous weight of material that was turned into artillery. In 1914, this was the beginning of mass death. There was no place to put the bodies (if they could be found) of so many; this created a situation that made it impossible to literally mourn the dead. Decline Roman Empire In the period circa 600 B.C.E to 600 C.E., imperial decline and collapse was caused partly by over expansion, a failing economy due to overspending, and external invasions by barbarian tribes as shown by the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 C.E.. One main cause of the decline and collapse of the Roman Empire was over expansion of territory which led to the empire becoming too large to govern successfully and overall decentralization. At its zenith during Pax Romana, the empire extended from the Atlantic Ocean to the Euphrates River in the Middle East and also consisted of parts of North Africa. As the empire began expanding farther from its administrative center, the Romans were unable to communicate quickly or effectively enough in order to control their territory. With such a vast empire, Romans struggled to deploy sufficient troops and resources to defend the borders and frontiers from rebellions and external invasions. • 23. Non Traditional Families In The 1800s Families in History There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. Per Coontz (2010) The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth century. (p. 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate or not included as part of a family household. Over time, the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and same sex couple and parent households. Today, American ideas of what constitutes a family have drastically expanded to include these formerly non traditional families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of black married women activists was double that of white women activists A reason for this disparity, being that white women were more likely to buy into the notion that a woman s place was in the home and many believed this to be a more ideal situation. By the end of the decade, statistics revealed that there were as many as thirty thousand artists in Paris alone. The Lost Generation is essentially a term that is used to describe the young adults of the 1920 s who were changing with the times and rebelling against what America had become after the war. They populated areas like Paris and London where they expected to find literary freedom and a cosmopolitan way of life. The Lost Generation of American writers and poets left America, seeking refuge from the broken culture and devastation that had come from the war, and ended up in Paris, a city that had a thriving art culture where they could write freely and lavish in the Bohemian lifestyle without rules. They drank, traveled, had love affairs, and wrote. They were influenced by the paintings of artists like Dada and Picasso and collected their works, as well as socialized with them. They critiqued each other s writing and often met in bookstores, cafĆ©s, and bars to talk about their works and life in general. • 25. Tijuana Straits, By Kem Nunn People do not always get to have the fairytale life they once dreamed of. Life comes with many struggles, but people can overcome them if they really want to. They choose to follow a certain path in their life, which at times it can be good or bad. In the book, Tijuana Straits , by Kem Nunn, the author explains the different life experiences of certain characters in the book and how their life ended up. Unlike a fairytale, he gives the different perspective and point of views of the characters. Nunn gave enough information to know how the character s lives ended up the way it did. The characters, Fahey, Armando, and Magdalena, were each described with a different persona so that each one sticks out different than the other. Nunn gave the point of view of the characters so the readers can get a sense of what each one of them is thinking of. There s a character named Fahey, an ex surfer who took the wrong path and ended up owning and working in his worm farm, which is basically the protagonist in the book. Fahey s life was described as a rollercoaster and he went into detail about it. Nunn states, The man was so pissed about not getting more mileage out of a second offense that he kept Fahey in a county lockup for six months awaiting transfer and another six in what they euphemistically called bus therapy that is, in constant motion, from one facility to another, all the way to Leavenworth and back again. • 26. Barrel Racing Essay Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern in the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good athletic ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through the barrels. The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a flagger in the ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish line. The rider and horse aren t judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they get a no time score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event. There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn t any rule that says what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others. • 27. The Importance Of Sea Turtles Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups. They are classified as amniotes. They have existed a long time ago, which means they have seen the rise and fall of the dinosaurs and the rise of humanity. Scientists think that turtles have existed for around 157 million years (mosaic 29). Approximately, sea turtles were 65 million years ago (Dobbs 1). This family has survived the passage of time and is threatened by the contamination that humans have created in the ocean. The six sea turtles that occur on the coasts of America are in fact threatened. Sea turtles are very important for the ecosystem, but humans, directly and indirectly, endanger this family. If humans do not stop their destructive habits, we can lose the influence of sea turtles on seafarers. Sea turtles play an important role in the ecology of the ocean, and without turtles, we can see an ecological collapse in the oceans. Sea turtles are one of the few animals in the sea that eat sea grass (Godfrey). Sea turtles act as grazing animals that cut short grass and help maintain the health of the family of seaweed (Godfrey). In recent decades, there has been a decline in the sea grass family. This decrease may be related to the decrease in the number of sea turtles (Godfrey). Sea grass is important because it is a fertile ground for many species of fish, shellfish and crustaceans (Godfrey). The beaches and sand dunes are known for not having many nutrients. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less energy and water lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials helps to reduce production cost. Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt CSR measures. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand image with the scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing retailer is found to break its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working conditions. When BBC revealed the dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in information and advertising campaigns to restore consumer loyalty. Rawlings won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 for her novel, The Yearling, for her deliberate use of sensory details, figurative language, and artful syntax. Harper Lee uses the theme of inequality in her book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Tom Robinson must deal with inequality when he is accused of a crime he didn t commit because no one will trust a black man over a white man. The Cunningham family must face discrimination because of their lack of money. Scout even faces inequality when she tries to play with Jem and Dill. The theme of inequality is a strong one in Lee s book, and her use of inequality doesn t only define racism, but also discrimination based on wealth and gender. To Kill a Mockingbird is set in Maycomb County, Alabama in the 1930s. There is a myriad of families in this small county. Blacks, farmers, businessmen, and strong single women all call Maycomb County home. The book is told from the point of view of a little girl named Jean Louise Finch, or as many of the townspeople call her, Scout. Her father, whom they call Atticus, raises her with her brother Jem. A majority of the book deals with the trial of Tom Robinson, during which Scout begins to understand that not everybody is as fair as Atticus, raised Jem and her to be. Unquestionably, the biggest form of inequality in To Kill a Mockingbird is racism against African Americans. The first of the two approaches will be deontological approach and the other will be utilitarianism approach. Therefore, to better understand how to use these two approaches, it is better to first discuss them briefly and have a better understanding of what they are. Deontological Approach Deontological comes from two Greek word. The first word is deon which when interpreted means duty or responsibility. This word is used to mean what one ought to do or is obligated to do. The other word is logos which when interpreted means study. In other words, by improving the participant s self care routine we will also improve her SWB. Mindfulness therapy falls under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidenced based treatment that was derived as a way to treat individuals who are at risk for emotional dysregulation on a more long term basis (Craighead, 2016). Mindfulness includes education about the client s illness, meditation techniques and drawing a connection between specific thoughts and feelings. This is all done in an effort to teach individuals to more routinely notice their thoughts and avoid rumination and negative thinking patterns that can lead to feelings of negative self worth, guilt and excessive self criticism (Williams Kuyken, 2012). According to research from six randomized controlled trials with a total of 593 participants Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapy was shown to reduce relapses of depression in 44% (Williams Kuyken, 2012).
