Nikki Giovanni s Surveillance
Historically, surveillance came in the form of a watch tower, designed to watch out for danger in
order to protect citizens. In a more recent context, the implementation has evolved now to
supervise the citizens in order to watch out for danger. The modern watch tower does not occupy
the same physical space as its predecessor and does not impress by its height, but rather, impresses
by its seemingly omnipresent eye in all channels of society and its reach into the lives of
individuals, but that reach is only enough to protect very specific dangers. Although mass
surveillanceportrays itself as proficient in preventing threats to a collective, Nikki Giovanni s
Surveillance reveals her mother s physical abuse and, as a result, the dissonance... Show more

Giovanni is recounting what she s had to do time and time again and the tone of the poem is one
of frustration; frustration with the idea that, as a child, she was given the responsibility to surveil
her father, yet without any means of action to curtail the violence that ensues. Giovanni goes so
far to even describe herself as [I am] the silent film (100) to highlight that, while she may be
watching, she is incapable of changing the circumstance because her voice would likely be
silenced as What goes on/In our house/Stays/In our house (Giovanni 100). Her frustration with her
inability to act is also a direct analogy to her frustration with the government s lack of engagement

Gillette Marketing Plan
Managerial Marketing
Marketing Plan
Questions for Discussion
1.Evaluate product innovation at Gillette throughout its history. Has Gillette been a victim of its
own success? Has product innovation in the wet shaving market come to an end? Explain.
While evaluating the product innovation at Gillette throughout its history, it is easy to relate to the
companies ups and downs, as well as its struggles. Especially in the younger developmental years,
we see the resilience of the company and the drive that was necessary in order to continue
operations. These hardships pushed the company to continue to refine its product and mine for new
innovations. It was stated that the Gillette Company lead the personal care and grooming industry ...

Overall, one upmanship can be deadly to both companies whom constantly try to outdo
themselves and also offer better prices. The primary reason why this can be deadly is by cutting
profit margins thinner and thinner. Ultimately price is what sells and item and not quality,
especially if the quality is marginal. You don t have to go far to see this classical struggle. Gas
stations are a prime example of one upmanship. Profit margins on gas are noted to be very thin. If
you consider gas station prices on neighboring stations, they are typically very close if not the
same. These stations have effectively locked themselves into a commitment to match or exceed
their competitor s price in order to draw higher sales, because ultimately what sells gas at
neighboring gas stations is the best price.
3.What actions would you recommend over the next five years that would help Gillette maintain its
worldwide dominance in the shaving market? What specific marketing program discussions would
you recommend? Should Gillette be worried about Schick? Explain.
Over the next five years, it is recommended that Gillette continue innovation. Innovation is key in
any market; you must continue to exceed customer expectation while continuing to meet basic
needs. Over the next five years, it is also important to keep up with changes in market demands and
also listening to consumer feedback. Marketing programs that involve getting guys to try their new

The Core Values Of Social Work
Statement of Purpose
Social work concentrates not only on the wellbeing of society, but also the welfare of individuals,
families, groups, and communities. Social work is a critical tool in acknowledging national
controversial issues such as transparency in the government but can also address local concerns,
like gang related activity within a community. It means seeing issues affecting daily lives and
taking the initiative to enact a solution. Social work encompasses many facets such as community
development, program development, public policy, intervention, and direct one on one
communication. The core values of social work for me include the overall well being of society,
social justice for all, equality, and dignity among individuals. ... Show more content on

Not long after, they enrolled her in school and extracurricular activities. She was getting the love
and support as a young girl should, and she recognized it. She even said to me one day, Ashley, I
m so lucky now. I knew she was comparing her new opportunity to her old situation. As the
school year went on, she formed a close bond with her foster brother and they even began to
refer to each other as sibling. I witnessed the familial love grow organically between the family
and Chelsea. After two years of being considered a foster child, the family was finally able to
legally adopt Chelsea. The adoption day was incredibly meaningful to the whole family. Chelsea
had a new last name and the family officially had a new daughter/sister. Working with Chelsea and
the family, completely changed my views of the foster care and adoption system. I learned that
children could grow to love their adoptive parents as their own, and vice versa. The experience can
both be appreciative and enlightening for everyone involved.
After college, I searched for a career in which I could continue to help children. Luckily, I was

Comparing Ballet And Native American Dance
Dancing with the earth or dancing upside the earth
I m going to compare two dances from western and non western tradition. I picked Ballet and Native
American Dance. Which in essence vary from the historical roots to their own actual manifestation.
While Ballet is rooted in the entertainment of aristocratic sector of French society; Native American
Dance is the spiritual manifestation of the indigenous population regarding their social and
physical ecology. The socioeconomic relationship between the dances differ so much that it gives
a good outlook of what dance could be. Dance is one of the cultural manifestations of a given set
of people, in this case, a socioeconomic group. While the aristocrat used Ballet as a way to show
political an economical power, that is, depending on how elaborate are the performance and the
costume people use. While the Native American Dance on the other hand focus more on
representing moves and practices that are related to ancestral traditions which are related to seeds,
spiritual medicine and mother earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ballet began to show whole histories of metaphorical or historical situations that were mostly
aimed to the cultural elite. You can see how ballet still maintains its historical roots elements
related to showing off socioeconomic status, because of the rigidity of the moves and the
uniqueness of the dancers. Ballet dancers are only a small portion of population, and one that in
general has the privilege to decide to pursue this career because it haves the necessary economical
and cultural conditions. Not everyone can be a ballet

Quantitative Analysis For Business Class Studying For Week...
The Learning Team A (LTA) in the Quantitative Analysis for Business class studying for Week
Four was both interesting and challenging for the team members. The members were comfortable
and uncomfortable with different and similar topics (steps in testing research hypothesis,
comparing means of two or more groups, and calculating the correlation between two variables).
LTA reflects back over the previous weeks studying and week s four topics. LTA member also
expresses and relates how the application is applied in his/her chosen field.
Previous Week s Reflection
Overall LTA discovered statistics consist of calculating everyday numerical data. Statistics consist
of classifying, analyzing, summarizing, organizing, and interpreting numerical data, according to
(McClave, Benson, Sincich, 2011, p. 3). The team also discovered the following from the authors
among other pertinent information: Descriptive statistics. Discovered how to use numerical and
graph methods. Inferential statistics. Discovered how to use sample data to make predictions,
estimates, decisions, and other generalization regarding a larger set of data. Fundamental elements
of statistics. (1) Experimental units, (2) Population (3) Variable, (4) Samples, and (5) Statistical
inference.
During week four, LTA discovered the steps involve in testing research hypothesis and how to

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates
It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you
see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you
in the face. (Oates, 95)
Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy
day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various
poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets
passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to
memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of
obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her
thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon
Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how
Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that
moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed
in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until
she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her
being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected
Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their
first kiss.
The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky,
and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden
shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl
poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets
sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly
through two sides: that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is

A New Paradigm On The Open Market System Essay
Introduction
In this paper, we will analyze a new paradigm that is emerging recently around the religious
institutions, the whole crux of which lies in the fact that the organized religion thrives in the open
market system. The paper is further divided into six sections: literature, theory, hypothesis, method,
findings of the study, and the discussion.
Theory and Hypothesis
The sociology of the religion has been seen to be undergoing a period of change, or a paradigm
shift. Are the American kids growing up to have a different religious inclination than the kids a
generation or two ago? Religious inclination can include acknowledgement of belonging to a
certain religion, performing religious practices, attending the religious ceremonies and services,
spirituality, religious donations and charities, and approving of religious organizations
(Pargament, 1997). Although the religious affiliation for all is an important factor to be
considered, the affiliation among the adolescents particularly takes away a significant share of
importance. Religious affiliation among kids is believed to bring about a number of positive
outcomes including better physical health, less drug abuse, better social conditioning and
functioning, and fewer risk related behaviors. The kids who are more religiously inclined are
also believed to have less signs of anxiety and depression and display a strong character
(Markstorm, 1999). However, if not handled properly, religion can also drive in the feelings

How Greed Affects The Lives Of People
It is hard to believe how greed affects the lives of people. Often people do not realize that money
and power are not everything in life. During the Industrial Revolution many people let their lives be
heavily manipulated by their material wants rather than their needs. As a result they were often
unhappy with the lives they had while others were in abundance of happiness. Charles Dickens
lived during the Industrial Revolution and knew what life was like during those times ( BBC
Primary History Famous People Charles Dickens ). In Hard Times, Dickens portrays the lives of a
group of people who were directly affected by the Industrial Revolution. Thomas Gradgrind,
Louisa Gradgrind, and Josiah Bounderby are three characters that are deeply affected by the
Industrial Revolution in the novel. The novel begins by giving us an overview of Thomas
Gradgrind beliefs. This man who is the first character to be introduced to the readers in Hard
Times is portrayed as a monotone, mechanized man who relies solely on facts and nothing more.
In the novel he is described as, A man who proceeds upon the principle that two and two are four,
and nothing over, and who is not to be talked into allowing for anything over (Dickens, Book the
First, CH II). He also owns a school where children do not seem to have an individual personality
as they are reduced to mere number on a list, as he refers to a girl not by her name but as girl
number twenty . Additionally, his philosophy of not

Janet s Point Of View
Janet s Point of View in The Storm McKnight Malmar s story, The Storm , is a suspenseful short
story about a woman, later in the story revealed to be named Janet, coming home to an empty
house with no sign of her husband, Ben. The story is told in third person limited point of view
where the reader follows Janet who has to process her husband being gone, and finding the lifeless
body of a womanwhile alone in her isolated home during a thunderstorm. The story starts with
Janet being excited and relieved to come home to her husband, where she imagines a kind,
almost platonic Ben to welcome her home by kissing her cheeks and touching her shoulders
(Malmar, Pg. 1). Through the progression of the story, Janet uses her time alone to shift her
happy thoughts of Ben into doubt and reason. During the storm, Janet is able to see her life with
Ben as the abusive relationship it truly is. The first portion of the story begins with Janet having
high regards for her husband and the house they live in. She imagined a surprised Ben sitting by
the fire with his paper inside their home, with his face lighting up at her early return. In the
kitchen, she would make coffee for the two of them and talk by the fire. She sits in the house
without Ben, who is not home, and while alone, her attention shifts from her idealistic scenario
involving her husband to the ongoing storm and how it appears to be getting worse. From this
point of the story and onwards, Janet battles herself and how she

Marie Laure And Siddhartha
There are many novels written with different experiences included into each one making them
unique, but when one breaks down the novels one can realize how there may be different
adventures, but there really is only one story. Joseph Campbell s Monomyth cycle is used to
compare stories and outline how similar two different novels can be; in Hesse s Siddhartha and
Anthony Doerr s All the Light We Cannot See, the three main stages of the monomyth cycle and
different themes throughout the novelreally pull the stories together; it shows the characters

in the beginning of Siddhartha and All the Light We Cannot See as Siddhartha and Marie Laure are

support. In both, the son or daughter wants to somehow leave, and in both, the father indulges and
is hurt by it, but encourages it as well. The fathers must let go of their son or daughter to find their
own way in the world, even against their own better judgement.
After the hero leaves the separation stage, they enter the initiation stage where they may act a

threshold and belly of the whale, where the hero finally crosses the threshold between the world
he is familiar with and the world he is not yet familiar with. It may be leaving their home for the
first time or doing something they have always been scared to do. This action signifies the Hero s

The Practice Of The Garden City Ideas
The practice of the Garden City Ideas
The first two garden cities built according to Howard s ideas were Letchworth, started in 1903 and
Welwyn, begun in 1920. http://cashewnut.me.uk/WGCbooks/bigImages/web WGC books 1925 1
04.jpg During the entire initial construction of Letchworth, only one tree was felled, and an
agriculture area surrounding the town was included in the plan. That is the first Green Belt . The city
was divided into different areas like residential area, industry area and public area. A one mile
length traffic axle went across the public area and was connected to the railway station. By doing
this, the industry area became the link between agriculture area and the city center. Although the
planning was not centripetal, the basic theories are based on Garden City ideas.
Besides the design principles of the Garden City, Howard also proposed the theories about
developing the social and economic structure of the Garden City which had became a radical
contribution to urban planning. Today, the community management of Letchworth still broadly
follows Howard s principle of rate rent principle of rate rent , where residents pay for their services
(rates) and those who invested in the initial development receive a return (rent), which is this case
is reinvested back into the town. By using this system, the Heritage Foundation has developed lots
of services and amenities including a hospital, museum, parks, minibus and shop mobility services

The Importance Of Teacher Attrition In Education
Twenty three percent of teachers leave the teaching profession during their first five years of
teaching (Elisa Shernoff, Ane MarГn Мѓ ez Lora, Stacy Frazier, Lara Jakobsons, Marc Atkins,
Deborah Bonner, 2011, p. 465). Teaching has been a career before writing was established,
however there has never been such a high attrition rate in teaching. Attrition is defined as a
reduction in workforce without firing of personnel, as when workers resign or retire and are not
replaced (CITATION Dictionary .com). While the current flow of students training to become
teachers is still strong, novice teachers do not find enough encouragement in their first few years of
teaching to remain in the profession. Instead, their experiences cause them to feel discouraged and
disrespected to the point that they do not believe that teaching is where they belong. This crisis
regarding educationsustainability needs to be redefined to include the sustainability of teachers.
Sustaining future education relies on creating and hiring teachers who enjoy being part of a
learning environment. The use of student teaching, teacher collaboration, and less mandated
learning goals can lower the teacher attrition rate and sustain education. Also, although some people
believe that other resources are more important to sustain, education is going to be detrimental to
the success of future societies.
Student teaching can help lessen teacher attrition by giving the pre service teacher experience in a
classroom,

The Legacy Of Jackson Pollock
One cannot hear the name, Jackson Pollock without instantly thinking of the words abstract,
radical, and expressionist. His legacy that he left behind is one to admire, with his skills of
detaching line from color, refining categories of drawing and painting, and finding new means to
describe pictorial space. (Jackson Pollockand His Paintings)
Jackson Pollock s life began in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, Leroy was a farmer and later
in life became a surveyor for the government. Because of his father s job as a government
surveyor, Pollock was able to travel to many places with his father, even experiencing some
Native American culture with which he attributes some of his art pieces to. When Pollock got
older he enrolled himself at the Students League in New York in 1929. He studied here under the
hands of regionalist painter, Thomas Benton. During this time, Pollock created mostly realist
modern American art with influences coming from Mexican muralist painters and surrealist. It
was not until 1939, while visiting The Museum of Modern Art in New York City that Pollock
changed his art style. Within this museum was an exhibit called, Picasso: 40 Years of His Art that
had over 300 works of art in addition to his anti war morals. This led Pollock to the realization and
admiration of the power of European modernism. This realization created his new style of semi
abstract totemic works.
When WWII ended, its aftermath fueled the style of radical, abstract expressionism

Blackberry Picking
Weaving Maturity and Innocence Together; an Analysis of Blackberry Picking As people grow
into adulthood, they experience a loss of innocence, a series of events that leads them to see the
world in a different, darker lens. Seamus Heaney s 1999 poem Blackberry Picking explores this
idea. This poem uses mature diction combined with a childish rhyme scheme of AABB to explain
how the sweetness of one s youth becomes soured when they experience reality and how this
process is inevitable in tainting their past. As the reader analyzes this poem they immediately
recognize the seemingly out of place mature language used in a poem about berrypicking. The text
uses words such as thickened wine and lust for. These are very adult phrases and topics used to
describe a childhood memory, which helps show that when one loses their innocence, their
recollections are permanently changed. Another way the mature diction is used is a contrast to the
childlike story that is being told in the poem. This extreme contrast is important because it... Show

The poem uses the simplistic rhyme scheme of AABB, which is typically found in nursery rhymes
and children stories. By using this rhyme scheme for the whole poem, the speaker is able to make
known that the poem is about a memory of blackberry picking, not a current event. The lines also
end very simply, ending with rhymes such as clot/knot and sun/ripen. Yet, as the poem continues
the rhyme schemes become muddled and lost, which is shown through rhymes like pots/boots and
sour/fair. The rhymes don t fit with the beginning of the poem, similarly how the mature language
doesn t fit into the poem. The poem ultimately ends with disappointment, with the line Each year I
hoped they d keep, knew that they would not. This helps tie the overall theme that nothing truly
stays the same, that everything ends, including

Comparing Of Mice And Men
What if killing someone was good? What if the death of your child was the only to cure you?
The books Of Mice and Men and The Pearl are both thought provoking stories that were
brilliantly authored by Jordan Steinbeck, and both of stories address this topic. Of Mice and
Men tells the story of two workers in the Salinas Valley, while The Pearl tells a parabolic story,
about a poor fisherman working to save his child. Both stories tell touching, and quite frankly,
heart breaking stories about what types of sacrifices must be made for the greater good. While
both of these books are extremely similar in resolution, both of them share a multitude of systematic
differences, especially when it comes to central women characters.. The Pearl is... Show more

Religious Freedom In The United States
There are many things that comply to the importance of religious freedom. Many of which we
take for granted. If anything, it is our fundamental right to have this freedom, for everyone. There
are even a few laws that comply to religious freedom, for example the 1998 International Religious
Freedom Act (IRFA) , this law issues to the United Statesto criticize mistakes that comply to
religious freedom. It also helped advocate the right of religious freedom.
Even though Congress thought it was essential in the IRFA to make clear how easily we can
forget how important our religious freedom is. Many people take advantage of our religious
freedom, or they just don t care. Take for example people who don t go to church. One thing wrong

Religious freedom isn t just being able to practice whatever religion you want, it also complies to
the separation a church and state. This meaning that the government has absolutely no right to
punish us for doing something non Christian in the church. So in theory, they can not punish us for
committing sins within the church. Back in 1700, they would use pillories to humiliate the sinner,
or even if the sin was bad enough, hang them. Other punishments back in 1700 include; having a T
branded into their hand for theif , being whipped multiple times, or just normal public humiliation.
Of course some of these are harsh punishments, like hanging them for committing a simple sin.
That s why religious freedom is so important, if it wasn t for religious freedom, the world as we
know it wouldn t be like the way it is today. Many people of the world don t have religious
freedom like we do and they have to constantly hide their worships, if they get caught, well it s
most likely off with their head. Most people take this for granted, but once you get to thinking
about it, you realize just how lucky we Americans

1. The novel The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy is about overcoming the struggles of life,

in herself as she is picking on her imperfections. This quote supports my theme because currently
in the story Ammu has been through many struggles such as being abused by her husband,
divorcing her husband, not having a home for her children etc. Every time Ammu just took the
disrespect she got from society and never stood up for herself. Ammu never appreciated herself

Maximilien Robespierre, Gandhi, And The Reign Of Terror
The French Revolution and Indian Revolution were important events that changed the course of
history. The influence between these two revolutions was mainly because of the leaders behind it
all; Maximilien Robespierre and Mahatmas Gandhi. Maximilien Robespierre was the most
influential person during the French Revolution. Robespierre came into power during the Reign of
Terrorand he executed many who he thought were against the revolution which lead him to be
known as the Savior of the Revolution and also, the Tyrant of the Revolution. Just like Robespierre,
Gandhi was a prominent leader during the Indian Revolution. Gandhi led a peaceful civil

Robespierre believed that there should be no social class between French citizens and everyone

way these two men were similar but when it came to accomplishing the goal they set out for
their country, their ways were very different. Robespierre set out to get equal rights with
violence and threats. He would hang anyone who was against the revolution, but not only that,
Robespierre craved the power and attention he was getting as the known leader of the French
Revolution. He went so far as setting a law saying no one was to have a religion and said himself
to be God. Gandhi however, handled his situation in a completely different manner. He
continuously persisted on having a non violent protest against the British, saying it would only
cause more lives to be lost. Gandhi also wanted Hindus and Muslims to put their differences aside
and see how they are alike and how they worship the same God. Although Robespierre and Gandhi
had goals to change their nations, both did not succeed in doing so; France is still ruled by a
monarch and India is divided into three different

Deck Training Plan
It may sound obvious, but when building a garden patio deck, one should always plan the decking
out on paper first before so much as even picking up a saw!
There is however a solution to this sometimes complicated planning stage.
A good quality timber decking kit will provide you with all the timber, deck boards, joists and
fixings needed to create a high quality, durable and elegant decking area, in far less time, and with
far less planning.
Of course, there are some aspects of the project which will need planning out whether you use a kit
or not. The first thing to consider is location: Would you like your decking to create an environment
which is sunny, shady, or somewhere between? Do you want the deck to lie next to your home, or...

the deck is completed.
Joist Timber Framework Preparation
The timber joist framework is effectively the base on which your garden patio is built. The timber
joists included in your kit will almost certainly be cut to length but be sure to check before you
begin screwing or fixing the timber joists together.
The timber deck joists are laid in line, parallel to each other, and at no greater than 60cm intervals.
With timber deck boards usually 120mm wide, you also need to allow 5 6mm between each deck
board to allow for shrinkage in summer, and swelling in winter. (Remember: deckboards, joists, and
other components are all constructed from a natural, living material)

Human Emotion And Its Effect On Human Consciousness
The purpose of life, to some degree, is to seek happiness and to seek out other people to achieve
that happiness. Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle,
claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If
someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human
emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely
complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a
sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no
person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to
seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get
away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of
society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person.
Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his
suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying
himself in his work. The exploration of Freud s ideas through different characters of the two
stories, Sonny s Blues and Ceremony, reveal that Freud s principles regarding human nature are not
the basis for all human life. Sonny s

Adam And Eve Durer Summary
Durer s engraving of 1504, Adam and Eve, clearly reflects his sacred attitude towards his craft.
His attention to detail and clever use of symbolism shows the reverence that he has for his art
form. Religion itself is a scared subject matter and the fact that he engraved two of the most famous
religious figures in history and engraved them well shows the sacredness that he feels towards the
subject and his art work. Everything in this engraving has meaning and symbolism. Adam and Eve,
standing opposite each other, holding onto the branches of The Tree of Life and the forbidden Tree

An Informative Essay On Wild Turkeys
The wild turkey is an animal most people have heard of because of hunting reasons, but do you
know the basic facts? The wild turkey species has 6 subspecies; these include the eastern wild
turkey, Osceola (Florida) wild turkey, Rio Grande wild turkey, Merriam s wild turkey, Gould s
wild turkey, and Ocellated wild turkey. These turkeys are different in color but are mostly the
same because they are the same species of animal. The wild turkey is dark in color, either
brown, black, or a similar color. Their wings are dark and are boldly barred with white. The
rump and tail of the animal are tipped with a rustic color or white. The final part of the animal,
the bare skin of the head and neck, are varieties of red, blue, or gray. Both male and female
measurements for the wild turkey species are the same. The length is 43.3 45.3 inches. The
wingspan is 49.2 56.7 inches. The weight is 88.2 381 ounces. These birds are very large, round
animals with long legs and wide rounded tails, and a small head on a long, slim neck. The wild

Nacl Solubility
NaCl or sodium chloride salt has one of the highest levels of solubility in water due to its ionic
bonds, which easily breaks apart in a polar solvent meanwhile, sodium chloride is not soluble in
hexane because of the structure and polarity of hexane that is non polar. Thus, when NaCl is put
into hexane, the charged particles and the non polar particles would stay altogether resulting in no
mixing or dissolution. Naphthalene is non polar covalent solute therefore it dissolves in non polar
solvent(hexane) and it will not be able to dissolve in water, which is polar solvent. Citric acidand
sodium bicarbonate is soluble in water because both substances are polar, causing it to be insoluble
in hexane.

Since NaCl is an ionic bond, the negative chloride ions (Cl ) are attracted by the positive sodium
ions (Na+) and by the hydrogen atom in the polar water molecule. Both chloride ions and the
oxygen atom in the polar water molecule attract the positive sodium ions. This is where it triggers
the dissolving process within the NaCl molecule. The crystal lattice in NaCl will start breaking
down when the attraction for the ions by the water molecules is stronger. Once the ions are
released from the crystals, the broken up ions will be entirely surrounded by water molecules, and
the water will start breaking down the solute even further. Thus they are soluble in water and not
soluble in hexane, due to the difference in the polarity. Therefore, when NaCl is mixed with
hexane, the charged particles and the non polar particles would stay altogether and result in

Joseph Stalin s Influence On Russian Music
How Social Change influenced Russian Music of the Twentieth Century Joseph Stalin s
authoritarian state and World War II were the two major social changes during the Twentieth
century. Joseph Stalin s policies centered on inflicting fear upon his own citizens, to instill
greater control over Soviet Russia. Through the great purges, Stalin was able to assume complete
power over his people. His regime s policies greatly affected Russian music of the Twentieth
century. Centralised control of art, paired with the fear of Stalin s reign, instilled harsh, dissonant
pieces of music. Music could no longer be composed under the freedom of expression that was
previously granted to composers. Now, music was tailored to the liking of Stalin. World War

The first three movements contrasts the peaceful life before the war, with the bloodshed of the
war. The movement starts out peaceful and serene. It turns dissonant, as Shostakovich attempts to
express the grief of the war. A shift occurs during the fourth movement. This movement portrays
the Russian victory over Nazi Germany s attempt to take Leningrad. This movement is filled with
loud, dissonant chords, and fast woodwind passages intended to show the Russian spirit fighting
for Leningrad. The movement ends bombastically, ending in loud major chords. This is intended
to show the Russian defeat of the German forces. Soviet Russia used Shostakovich s Seventh
Symphony as propaganda. It appealed to the Russian spirit, and invoked a nationalist spark. In an
interview with The New York Times, Shostakovich explains his symphony: The exposition of the

the development, war bursts into the peaceful life of these people. ... I am trying to convey the

Analysis Of Medea And All My Sons
The literary pieces that I chose for my Final Project, I am the classic play written by Euripides,
Medea by Euripides constructed in 431 B.C. and All My Sons written by Arthur Miller in 1947.
The propose of this paper is to analyze the classical work of Medea and the contemporary work, All
My Sons, for their particular storytelling components, themes and the assessment and narrative
choices that the authors utilized as it connects to the literary convention of their time period. In
addition, I will discuss the likenesses and differences of these two plays with respects to
characterization, narrative choices, themes, and literary conventions.

She was a powerful and dynamic character in a time when strong women were not depicted in
Greek culture. Medea was an unconventional woman in ancient Greek times, and it was
uncharacteristic for females in Athenian society to be a heroine and focal point.
Medea, the protagonist, was the daughter of Aeetes of Colchis, she was driven by passion and
committed horrendous crimes for the love of Jason. Euripides characters are a relatively flat
character, and they do not change dramatically throughout the play. The character Medea is
cynical, wicked, scheming and unlike any other heroine in ancient times, she blames Jason for her
predicament and seeks out revenge against everything that he loved. The opening act takes place
in the setting outside of Jason and Medea home in Corinth, Medea standing outside irradiates to
the Chorus how Jason victimized her and deserted the family. Like other plays in Greek history,
the play included The Chorus which was comprised of the women from Corinth; the there role was
to converse with Medea and evoke sympathy for her character.
The Nurse, Chorus, and Medea give a history of Medea and Jason s relationship, and the inciting
incidence begins. Medea describes how she is distraught and shattered because she sacrificed
everything for Jason, yet he is leaving her and their two sons to marry Glauce. Being exiled from
Corinth, Medea persuades Creon the King to let

Marginal Costs And Its Effect On Market Efficiency
Marginal costs and benefits are utilized as a form of measurement of costs and benefits at a
specific level of production and consumption. Everyday individuals, groups, and institutions make
decisions based on our marginal evaluations of the alternatives. They do this by asking questions:
What will it cost to produce one more unit , and What benefit will be received by acquiring one
more unit ? In this essay, the author will define and discuss marginal costs and benefits and their
effect on market efficiency in the presence or absence of externalities.
What Are Marginal Costs and Marginal Benefits?

However, once they have one, they will only consider buying a second widget at 20 dollars. If
they buy a second widget from your shop, it is based solely on the value laden perception that
the widget s benefit is worth the 20 dollars. If the consumers do not perceive that the widget has
20 dollars benefit or use, they will not purchase another widget at the 20 dollar price level.
Therefore, if your shop wants the consumer to buy widgets, the owner must either lower the price
or offer some other promotional benefit. Consumers marginal benefit is also referred to as marginal
utility (Urban Economics, 8E). According to the law of diminishing marginal utility, as a person
increases consumption of a product, while keeping consumption of other products constant, there is
a decline in the marginal utility that person derives from consuming each additional unit of that
product (Urban Economics, 8E). As the marginal benefit for widgets declines among your
customer base, so does the price they are willing to pay which in turn affects your marginal benefit
as a widget producer.
Marginal cost is the total cost you incur to produce one more unit (Urban Economics, 8E).

Lansoprazole
Introduction
The stomach naturally produces acid, which is mainly responsible for food digestion and
destruction of any foreign pathogen or bacteria ingested with food. Acid is secreted by stimulating
the partial cells located in the inner lining of the stomach to release acid in response to a stimulant
of food ingested, sight of food, smell, or taste. This acid secretion renders the stomach pH to be very
low, this strong acid is an irritant to the stomach. In protection of the stomach, a mucus layer is
present to shield the lining of the stomach from damage caused by the acid. When this protective
mucus layer is damaged, ulcers are formed and even to the point of perforation of stomach (hole
that causes a bleed in the stomach).

Troy By Wolfgang Petersen And Homer s Historic Epic Iliad
The 2004 film Troy by Wolfgang Petersen and Homer s historic epic Iliad both center on the
Trojan War between the Achaeans and the Trojans, but with two distinct differences in coverage.
During Homer s era, these heroes, the great Achilles and Hector, were known to all, but in modern
times they are not as prevalent and thus both artists needed to adapt their approach to this tale.
Homer s Iliaddelves into the ninth year of strife with Achillesand Agamemnon s quarrel in full
effect and the Greeks on the verge of sacking Troy. Petersen s Troy, however does not have the
same established background that Homer possessed and adapted by beginning with who these
characters are and how the story of the Trojan Warbegan. The coverage of Troy also pushes pass
the easing of Achilles wrath and into the sacking of Troy, fleeing of Aeneas, and the demise of
Achilles. Rather than a simple recreation of the Iliad, Troy attempts to balance the grand story of
Achilles struggle for immortality, Hector s courage to save his people from foretold death, and
who is truly on the virtuous side.
With no background for the audience to base the story, Troy begins around 1200 BCE with King
Agamemnon of Mycenae conquering the final Greek troops of Triopas to unite Greece, before the
Trojan War. Quite a different beginning than the start of the Iliad, which occurs roughly ten years
later. The audience needs to know these characters relationships and history first. When the film
opens, Agamemnon is the

The PCAOB is charged with establishing and enforcing auditing, quality control, ethics and

report from an accounting firm that is not registered with the PCAOB. Thus, SEC reporting
companies must engage the services of a registered public accounting firm. The PCAOB is

Cultural Beliefs
Cultural Beliefs
Every culture has different beliefs on certain issues such as death, gender, and spiritual practices.
Cultural beliefs influence the way patients understand health concepts and how they take care of
themselves. Therefore, knowing a patients background and culture is a helpful key to solving
certain problems. The Hispanic culture is an old and very unique culture that has strong beliefs
concerning death, dying, gender, family, and spiritual practices. Relationships are very important
in the Hispanic culture. The majority of the Hispanic culture are Roman Catholics which means
they believe that the soul is eternal and continues on after the physical body has died. Roman
Catholics consider human life sacred. The Hispanic culture takes family very seriously. Most
people resist of the idea of putting a loved one in the nursing home because they want a family
member to be there for their last breath. Many times, religious values keep an ill person from
feeling comfortable because their religion does not allow pain medication. When a person is on
their death bed, last rites are given by a priest, ill person gives their last confession, and the priest
offers absolution. When a loved one has passed away the family will hold a wake. A wake in the
Hispanic culture is a time for family members to share memories of the deceased. A funeral is
held in a church and the casket is carried to the final location. A burial is followed by the church
service. According to the

What Does It Mean To Own Something Analysis
What does it mean to own something? An individual may own something that has more
significance to the item than meets the eye. This subject has encouraged prominent thinkers to
learn more about the idea. This has entered a very fascinating way of thinking that has even
perplexed the astounding minds of Plato, Aristotle, and Jean Paul Sartre. This is why owning
something has more significance than may be thought, tangible goods are detrimental to a person s
character, ownership of tangible goods helps to develop moral character, and ownership extends
beyond objects to include intangible things as well. To begin, Plato supports the thought that having
ownership of anything was detrimental. Plato heavily believed in Christian thought, and this is
what shaped his biases of ownership. In summary, true Christians had no possessions and were
poor; they did not require such petty things to make them happy when they had God in their lives.
Plato s quote directly supports this, No human thing is of serious importance. This gave the idea
that owning anything would be considered greedy, or in some extreme cases, blasphemy.... Show

key to writing excellent excerpts. It gives the reader the ability to relate and sympathize with the

The concept of death does not romanticize the married life of living happily together forever;
They held each other... walked away from (Casares 8). This quote shows the reader the sadness
that comes from a death of a loved one. It adds onto the realism because it shows the raw pain of
death. The use of flashbacks makes Mrs. Perez more realistic. This is because the memories that
Lola thinks of are not very pleasant. The majority of the flashbacks portrayed in Casares short
stories involved the anger and controlling demeanor of Augustin. Her husband even though now
passed, was kind of controlling in their married life. A quote that displays an unpleasant memory
states, No, Lola, you re going to stop all of that ahorita mero (Casares 7). This quote shows that

Gun Banning Texas
The second newspaper article I decided to analyze is an article by Johnathon Silver, entitled
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Sues Waller County Over Gun Ban. https:/
/www.texastribune.org/2016/08/30/paxton sues waller county over sign banning handgu/ This
article was published back on the 30th of August, but this particular one grabbed my attention.
The lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was filed on a Monday afternoon in district
court in Travis County; it was geared toward Texas new open carry law, which had already been
in place since last January. This law permits Texans with that license to open carry and own a hand
gun. However, it does not allow the ownership of any kind of firearms; unless there is a written
regulation or is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A local government cannot be allowed to flout Texas licensed carry laws, or any state laws,
simply because it disagrees with the law or doesn t feel like honoring it, said Paxton in a
statement. Paxton s office sent 18 letters to cities and counties since the beginning of last March
after citizens had complained about signs banning handguns from certain buildings and
facilities. The issue of gun control is very important in government, Texas government
especially, because a good portion of Texas citizens own and carry handguns. It s a topic many
Texans are very passionate about on either side. This issue comes up a lot in presidential debates,
and for many citizens, this is one of the major determining factors on which candidate they will
vote for, depending on their stance on the issue. I myself are neither really pro nor anti gun, so I
don t have a strong opinion on this article; it just really sparked my interest. I have to agree,
however, even just a little, with the Attorney General in that citizens should be allowed to carry

Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary
Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the
Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize
that bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For
years, bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders
embodied the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people
started changing their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like
their idols. At the beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture
of machoism is back and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often
called gym rats just because they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on
sculpting their bodies. The author mentions many actors who went through rigorous training
programs to increase their muscular mass for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason
Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to get a part in the movie Conan the
Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now
globally famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered
radical transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1
All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role
that they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become
physically fit for the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to
defend the people. Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a
unique character, and often that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are
multiple examples of super dudes that try to build their careers by selling false illusions to the
people. Actors such as Vin Diesel from Fast and
Furious and Chris Hemsworth from Thor ended up building too much muscle and having their
biceps compared to the size of canned hams . Also, Arnold Schwarzeneggerand Sylvester
Stallone were both

Carl Sandburg, A Zealot for Chicago
Carl Sandburg was a three time Pulitzer prize winning poet, writer, and editor. As he was growing
up, Sandburg s family struggled with poverty, which engendered him to drop out of school early
in his teens to help contribute to his financially strained family. Sandburg was convinced by a man
that served with him during the Spanish American war, that he should attend Lombard College;
Sandburg took his advice and completed four years at Lombard. After getting his education he
moved to Chicago and obtained a job from Chicago Daily News, as an editorial writer. Sandburg s
works emulated his literary influence, Walt Whitman; both poets wrote in free verse. In 1914,
Sandburg published his poem Chicago then two years later, integrated the poem along with various
other poems relating to the city, and titled it Chicago Poems.
In the poem Chicago, Sandburg commences his poem by naming various titles such as Hog
Butcher for the World, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with Railroads, and the Nation s
Freight Handler , the speaker has a very boastful tone and venerates Chicago s achievements during
the nineteenth century. The speaker uses the words stormy, husky, and brawling to... Show more

Sandburg was very candid and raw about the reality of Chicago and the cycle it has gone through
despite grotesque circumstances pertaining to the inhabitants. The beauty of this poem lies within
the fervent passion among the citizens of Chicago. Sandburg and Whitman not only share the
commonality of writing in free verse but shared the same purposes; both poets celebrated American
accomplishments. Admitting, acknowledging, and embracing one s faults can lead to future
success, as long as the individual remains

Essay on CanadaВґs Mixedwood Plains and Pollution
Canada is a very large country, with areas of land in various climate regions, and land regions,
thus having many ecozones that differentiate from another. The most populated ecozone in
Canada is the Mixedwood Plains; the ecozone we are located in, named after the mixedwood
forests that are native to the area. The Mixedwood Plains is one of the smallest of the Canadian
ecozones, spanning only 175 963 kilometres squared. The Mixedwood Plains is bordered by three
of the great lakeson the southern side of the ecozone, and comes up along the St Lawrence river to
southern Quebec, and fills the tip of Ontario. It has rolling plains and small rock formations and
escarpments. The Mixedwood Plains contains over half of the Canadian population as... Show more

More than 24 billion gallons of untreated sewage waste and storm water are pumped into the lakes
annually. Pollution is increasing as well, due to the cottage development, where people enjoy
spending their summers relaxing. For many years, the lake habitats have been affected by pollution
and habitat destruction. The market for fish is tremendous; so much so, that we have depleted our
fishing resources, and have had to market on invasive species.
As well as pollution, invasive species are damaging the lake ecosystems and food chains, made
fragile by pollution and overfishing. The introduction of a new species throws off the balance of
food chains. Some common invasive species include the sea lamprey, Asian carp, and zebra
mussels, among many others. Zebra mussels have dramatically influenced and affected stable
food chains by reducing the amount of zooplankton and phytoplankton. This presents a problem,
as fish mostly feed on the drifters, and so they go hungry and die, leaving no food for larger fish
to prey on. In addition to underwater disruption, it affects us as well, but only slightly. Plankton
and algae especially are the most productive aquatic producers of oxygen, and by the decreasing
population, we lose oxygen as well. The sea lamprey is also a problem, though it is not so
influential to ecosystems as the zebra mussel.
The Canadian and US governments are working together on solutions to treat pollution and habitat
destruction, as well as overfishing and

Sumer, Southern Mesopotamia
writing is the physical manifestation of a spoken language. It is thought that human beings
developed language c. 35,000 BCE as evidenced by cave paintings from the period of the Cro
Magnon Man (c. 50,000 30,000 BCE) which appear to express concepts concerning daily life.
These images suggest a language because, in some instances, they seem to tell a story (say, of a
hunting expedition in which specific events occurred) rather than being simply pictures of animals
and people. Written language, however, does not emerge until its invention in Sumer, southern
Mesopotamia, c. 3500 3000 BCE. This early writing was called cuneiform and consisted of
making specific marks in wet clay with a reed implement. The writing system of the Egyptians
was already in use before the rise of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 BCE) and is thought to
have developed from Mesopotamian cuneiform (though this theory is disputed) and came to be
known as heiroglyphics.
The phoenetic writing systems of the Greeks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1200 BCE and appears to also have arisen independently as there is no evidence of cultural
transference at this time between China and Mesopotamia. The ancient Chinese practice of
divination involved etching marks on bones or shells which were then heated until they cracked.
The cracks would then be interpreted by a Diviner. If that Diviner had etched `Next Tuesday it
will rain and `Next Tuesday it will not rain the pattern of the cracks on the bone or shell would
tell him which would be the case. In time, these etchings evolved into the Chinese script THE
INVENTION OF WRITING The Sumerians first invented writing as a means of long distance
communication which was necessitated by trade. With the rise of the cities in Mesopotamia, and
the need for resources which were lacking in the region, long distance trade developed and, with it,
the need to be able to communicate across the expanses between cities or

American Pie, by Don McLean Essay
Analysis of the song American Pie , by Don McLean
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a major rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
portrays famous rock and roll singer and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in
1961 by using many rhetorical strategies. The different possible interpretations of this song made it
one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s.
Don McLean was a famous singer/songwriter who was popular in the 1970 s. His music is mostly
classified into rock and roll. The audience of this song can be anyone. The majority of the people
listening to the song in the 1970 s were hippies, or people who had open minds. The purpose of this
song is not just to entertain people with beautiful music, but ... Show more content on

The address to the term, Miss American Pie references a plane that went down killing singer
Buddy Holly. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles
who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song
revolves events that happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in
the tone of the song to convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big
controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie
represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is
in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he
borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses
a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to
pathos in this song.
McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other
singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos
because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. Pathos was used throughout the whole
piece especially when he said the lovers cried and the poets screamed. This quote describes the
people s sadness towards the death of Holly, which appeals to the listener in many emotional ways.
He also uses

With a mission of celebrating, preserving, and nurturing America s culinary heritage, for one of
just a handful of times, the James Beard Foundation opened the kitchen and dining rooms of the

passion and their perfectly prepared menu to a packed house of predominantly New York locals.
The Beard House is considered a performance space for chefs, distillers, wine makers, brewers
and chocolatiers. Its mission is to celebrate the unique regions of American cuisine. And we were
thrilled to host this talented and diverse group of chefs and participants to showcase the flavors of
the Mississippi Delta, says Izabela Wojcik, Director of House Programming for the James Beard
Foundation.
Presenting a dinner coined The Taste of the Delta, this team graciously accepted the invitation and
joined the ranks of some of the world s best chefs and beverage masters invited to cook and
entertain at the Beard House.

High Index Lenses Research
High index lenses are made from a substance that refracts more light than traditional lenses. This
makes the lenses thinner and lighter.
The index of a lens is its ability to bend light efficiently. The higher the index, the less lens material
is required to bend the same amount of light. So if you have a higher index, you can have a thinner
lens.
How do High Index Lenses Differ from Regular Lenses?
High index lenses are made of a material that is capable of bending light to a stronger degree than
indexes with a lower rating. Because of their ability to bend light more efficiently, high index lenses
have thinner edges than lenses with the same prescription power that are made of conventional
plastic material. Thinner edges require less lens

Why We Have Separate Political Parties In The 1790s
A) The founders of our nation believed that we as people have the right to be free, right to gather
and to have elected officials to represent our desires. But they were not so sure about having
separate political parties, but it seemed that there was no way around it, this issue was the reasons
for separation of one party over a few major issues. In the 1790s there were two groups of people
with opposing views on the how the government should run and set up. One of those groups was
the Federalists, who believed that the Constitution wasn t meant to be taken literally and wanted a
strong central government. The anti federalist or the Republicans, who supported the opposite.
These two groups became the first political parties.
Prior to the Constitution the country was ruled under the Articles of Confederation. These articles
gave the states most the power and left the government to be the middle man, coordinating efforts
between the states. One of the major concerns of the nation was how they were to defend
themselves since they had only state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

absorbed by the Whig Party in the mid 1830s. The party had many conflicts within its self, such as
policy on slavery and the eventual demise of these leaders, that led to the end of the party. The
Whig Party officially remained a party until 1856, when it was officially declared dead. The Whig
party died, but they did not choose to join the Republican party but instead joined the Constitutional

The Importance Of Neglect
The prevalence of strokes in our country and our world are high. Globally, a stroke claims a life
about every ten seconds. If an individual has a stroke and survives, it is also the leading cause of
disability (Campaign, n.d.). Strokes vary in their severity and recovery, but one somewhat common
occurrence is experiencing hemispatial neglectfollowing a stroke. Hemispatial neglect, or neglect,
is claimed to occur in about a third of all stroke patients (Klinke et al., 2015). Neglect is a
disorder of attention that typically follows brain damage that is unilateral. It has been reported as a
strong predictor of stroke recovery, in terms of general functioning (Gallagher et al., 2013). In

  • 2. Nikki Giovanni s Surveillance Historically, surveillance came in the form of a watch tower, designed to watch out for danger in order to protect citizens. In a more recent context, the implementation has evolved now to supervise the citizens in order to watch out for danger. The modern watch tower does not occupy the same physical space as its predecessor and does not impress by its height, but rather, impresses by its seemingly omnipresent eye in all channels of society and its reach into the lives of individuals, but that reach is only enough to protect very specific dangers. Although mass surveillanceportrays itself as proficient in preventing threats to a collective, Nikki Giovanni s Surveillance reveals her mother s physical abuse and, as a result, the dissonance... • 3. Gillette Marketing Plan Managerial Marketing Marketing Plan Questions for Discussion 1.Evaluate product innovation at Gillette throughout its history. Has Gillette been a victim of its own success? Has product innovation in the wet shaving market come to an end? Explain. While evaluating the product innovation at Gillette throughout its history, it is easy to relate to the companies ups and downs, as well as its struggles. Especially in the younger developmental years, we see the resilience of the company and the drive that was necessary in order to continue operations. These hardships pushed the company to continue to refine its product and mine for new innovations. It was stated that the Gillette Company lead the personal care and grooming industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall, one upmanship can be deadly to both companies whom constantly try to outdo themselves and also offer better prices. The primary reason why this can be deadly is by cutting profit margins thinner and thinner. Ultimately price is what sells and item and not quality, especially if the quality is marginal. You don t have to go far to see this classical struggle. Gas stations are a prime example of one upmanship. Profit margins on gas are noted to be very thin. If you consider gas station prices on neighboring stations, they are typically very close if not the same. These stations have effectively locked themselves into a commitment to match or exceed their competitor s price in order to draw higher sales, because ultimately what sells gas at neighboring gas stations is the best price. 3.What actions would you recommend over the next five years that would help Gillette maintain its worldwide dominance in the shaving market? What specific marketing program discussions would you recommend? Should Gillette be worried about Schick? Explain. Over the next five years, it is recommended that Gillette continue innovation. Innovation is key in any market; you must continue to exceed customer expectation while continuing to meet basic needs. Over the next five years, it is also important to keep up with changes in market demands and also listening to consumer feedback. Marketing programs that involve getting guys to try their new ... Social work is a critical tool in acknowledging national controversial issues such as transparency in the government but can also address local concerns, like gang related activity within a community. It means seeing issues affecting daily lives and taking the initiative to enact a solution. Social work encompasses many facets such as community development, program development, public policy, intervention, and direct one on one communication. As the school year went on, she formed a close bond with her foster brother and they even began to refer to each other as sibling. I witnessed the familial love grow organically between the family and Chelsea. After two years of being considered a foster child, the family was finally able to legally adopt Chelsea. The adoption day was incredibly meaningful to the whole family. Chelsea had a new last name and the family officially had a new daughter/sister. Working with Chelsea and the family, completely changed my views of the foster care and adoption system. I learned that children could grow to love their adoptive parents as their own, and vice versa. The experience can both be appreciative and enlightening for everyone involved. I picked Ballet and Native American Dance. Which in essence vary from the historical roots to their own actual manifestation. While Ballet is rooted in the entertainment of aristocratic sector of French society; Native American Dance is the spiritual manifestation of the indigenous population regarding their social and physical ecology. The socioeconomic relationship between the dances differ so much that it gives a good outlook of what dance could be. Dance is one of the cultural manifestations of a given set of people, in this case, a socioeconomic group. While the aristocrat used Ballet as a way to show political an economical power, that is, depending on how elaborate are the performance and the costume people use. Summary Of Three Girls By Oates It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95) Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their first kiss. The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. • 8. A New Paradigm On The Open Market System Essay Introduction In this paper, we will analyze a new paradigm that is emerging recently around the religious institutions, the whole crux of which lies in the fact that the organized religion thrives in the open market system. The paper is further divided into six sections: literature, theory, hypothesis, method, findings of the study, and the discussion. Theory and Hypothesis The sociology of the religion has been seen to be undergoing a period of change, or a paradigm shift. Are the American kids growing up to have a different religious inclination than the kids a generation or two ago? Religious inclination can include acknowledgement of belonging to a certain religion, performing religious practices, attending the religious ceremonies and services, spirituality, religious donations and charities, and approving of religious organizations (Pargament, 1997). Although the religious affiliation for all is an important factor to be considered, the affiliation among the adolescents particularly takes away a significant share of importance. Religious affiliation among kids is believed to bring about a number of positive outcomes including better physical health, less drug abuse, better social conditioning and functioning, and fewer risk related behaviors. The kids who are more religiously inclined are also believed to have less signs of anxiety and depression and display a strong character (Markstorm, 1999). However, if not handled properly, religion can also drive in the feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Greed Affects The Lives Of People It is hard to believe how greed affects the lives of people. Often people do not realize that money and power are not everything in life. During the Industrial Revolution many people let their lives be heavily manipulated by their material wants rather than their needs. As a result they were often unhappy with the lives they had while others were in abundance of happiness. Charles Dickens lived during the Industrial Revolution and knew what life was like during those times ( BBC Primary History Famous People Charles Dickens ). In Hard Times, Dickens portrays the lives of a group of people who were directly affected by the Industrial Revolution. Thomas Gradgrind, Louisa Gradgrind, and Josiah Bounderby are three characters that are deeply affected by the Industrial Revolution in the novel. The novel begins by giving us an overview of Thomas Gradgrind beliefs. This man who is the first character to be introduced to the readers in Hard Times is portrayed as a monotone, mechanized man who relies solely on facts and nothing more. In the novel he is described as, A man who proceeds upon the principle that two and two are four, and nothing over, and who is not to be talked into allowing for anything over (Dickens, Book the First, CH II). He also owns a school where children do not seem to have an individual personality as they are reduced to mere number on a list, as he refers to a girl not by her name but as girl number twenty . • 10. Janet s Point Of View Janet s Point of View in The Storm McKnight Malmar s story, The Storm , is a suspenseful short story about a woman, later in the story revealed to be named Janet, coming home to an empty house with no sign of her husband, Ben. The story is told in third person limited point of view where the reader follows Janet who has to process her husband being gone, and finding the lifeless body of a womanwhile alone in her isolated home during a thunderstorm. The story starts with Janet being excited and relieved to come home to her husband, where she imagines a kind, almost platonic Ben to welcome her home by kissing her cheeks and touching her shoulders (Malmar, Pg. 1). Through the progression of the story, Janet uses her time alone to shift her happy thoughts of Ben into doubt and reason. During the storm, Janet is able to see her life with Ben as the abusive relationship it truly is. The first portion of the story begins with Janet having high regards for her husband and the house they live in. She imagined a surprised Ben sitting by the fire with his paper inside their home, with his face lighting up at her early return. In the kitchen, she would make coffee for the two of them and talk by the fire. She sits in the house without Ben, who is not home, and while alone, her attention shifts from her idealistic scenario involving her husband to the ongoing storm and how it appears to be getting worse. From this point of the story and onwards, Janet battles herself and how she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Practice Of The Garden City Ideas The practice of the Garden City Ideas The first two garden cities built according to Howard s ideas were Letchworth, started in 1903 and Welwyn, begun in 1920. http://cashewnut.me.uk/WGCbooks/bigImages/web WGC books 1925 1 04.jpg During the entire initial construction of Letchworth, only one tree was felled, and an agriculture area surrounding the town was included in the plan. That is the first Green Belt . The city was divided into different areas like residential area, industry area and public area. A one mile length traffic axle went across the public area and was connected to the railway station. By doing this, the industry area became the link between agriculture area and the city center. Although the planning was not centripetal, the basic theories are based on Garden City ideas. Besides the design principles of the Garden City, Howard also proposed the theories about developing the social and economic structure of the Garden City which had became a radical contribution to urban planning. Today, the community management of Letchworth still broadly follows Howard s principle of rate rent principle of rate rent , where residents pay for their services (rates) and those who invested in the initial development receive a return (rent), which is this case is reinvested back into the town. • 13. The Importance Of Teacher Attrition In Education Twenty three percent of teachers leave the teaching profession during their first five years of teaching (Elisa Shernoff, Ane MarГn Мѓ ez Lora, Stacy Frazier, Lara Jakobsons, Marc Atkins, Deborah Bonner, 2011, p. 465). Teaching has been a career before writing was established, however there has never been such a high attrition rate in teaching. Attrition is defined as a reduction in workforce without firing of personnel, as when workers resign or retire and are not replaced (CITATION Dictionary .com). While the current flow of students training to become teachers is still strong, novice teachers do not find enough encouragement in their first few years of teaching to remain in the profession. Instead, their experiences cause them to feel discouraged and disrespected to the point that they do not believe that teaching is where they belong. This crisis regarding educationsustainability needs to be redefined to include the sustainability of teachers. Sustaining future education relies on creating and hiring teachers who enjoy being part of a learning environment. The use of student teaching, teacher collaboration, and less mandated learning goals can lower the teacher attrition rate and sustain education. Also, although some people believe that other resources are more important to sustain, education is going to be detrimental to the success of future societies. Student teaching can help lessen teacher attrition by giving the pre service teacher experience in a classroom, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Legacy Of Jackson Pollock One cannot hear the name, Jackson Pollock without instantly thinking of the words abstract, radical, and expressionist. His legacy that he left behind is one to admire, with his skills of detaching line from color, refining categories of drawing and painting, and finding new means to describe pictorial space. (Jackson Pollockand His Paintings) Jackson Pollock s life began in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, Leroy was a farmer and later in life became a surveyor for the government. Because of his father s job as a government surveyor, Pollock was able to travel to many places with his father, even experiencing some Native American culture with which he attributes some of his art pieces to. When Pollock got older he enrolled himself at the Students League in New York in 1929. He studied here under the hands of regionalist painter, Thomas Benton. During this time, Pollock created mostly realist modern American art with influences coming from Mexican muralist painters and surrealist. It was not until 1939, while visiting The Museum of Modern Art in New York City that Pollock changed his art style. Within this museum was an exhibit called, Picasso: 40 Years of His Art that had over 300 works of art in addition to his anti war morals. This led Pollock to the realization and admiration of the power of European modernism. This realization created his new style of semi abstract totemic works. • 15. Blackberry Picking Weaving Maturity and Innocence Together; an Analysis of Blackberry Picking As people grow into adulthood, they experience a loss of innocence, a series of events that leads them to see the world in a different, darker lens. Seamus Heaney s 1999 poem Blackberry Picking explores this idea. This poem uses mature diction combined with a childish rhyme scheme of AABB to explain how the sweetness of one s youth becomes soured when they experience reality and how this process is inevitable in tainting their past. As the reader analyzes this poem they immediately recognize the seemingly out of place mature language used in a poem about berrypicking. The text uses words such as thickened wine and lust for. These are very adult phrases and topics used to describe a childhood memory, which helps show that when one loses their innocence, their recollections are permanently changed. Another way the mature diction is used is a contrast to the childlike story that is being told in the poem. This extreme contrast is important because it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem uses the simplistic rhyme scheme of AABB, which is typically found in nursery rhymes and children stories. By using this rhyme scheme for the whole poem, the speaker is able to make known that the poem is about a memory of blackberry picking, not a current event. The lines also end very simply, ending with rhymes such as clot/knot and sun/ripen. Yet, as the poem continues the rhyme schemes become muddled and lost, which is shown through rhymes like pots/boots and sour/fair. The rhymes don t fit with the beginning of the poem, similarly how the mature language doesn t fit into the poem. Back in 1700, they would use pillories to humiliate the sinner, or even if the sin was bad enough, hang them. Other punishments back in 1700 include; having a T branded into their hand for theif , being whipped multiple times, or just normal public humiliation. This quote supports my theme because currently in the story Ammu has been through many struggles such as being abused by her husband, divorcing her husband, not having a home for her children etc. Every time Ammu just took the disrespect she got from society and never stood up for herself. Ammu never appreciated herself as the evidence shows, which also had an effect on her behaviour towards her children. In the last chapter when Estha and Rahel were not replying back to Margaret Kochamma, Ammu got very mad at them and was being very disrespectful, despite the fact that she could have dealt with it better (Roy 98). A good quality timber decking kit will provide you with all the timber, deck boards, joists and fixings needed to create a high quality, durable and elegant decking area, in far less time, and with far less planning. Of course, there are some aspects of the project which will need planning out whether you use a kit or not. • 22. Human Emotion And Its Effect On Human Consciousness The purpose of life, to some degree, is to seek happiness and to seek out other people to achieve that happiness. Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle, claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person. Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying himself in his work. The crystal lattice in NaCl will start breaking down when the attraction for the ions by the water molecules is stronger. She was a powerful and dynamic character in a time when strong women were not depicted in Greek culture. Medea was an unconventional woman in ancient Greek times, and it was uncharacteristic for females in Athenian society to be a heroine and focal point. Medea, the protagonist, was the daughter of Aeetes of Colchis, she was driven by passion and committed horrendous crimes for the love of Jason. Euripides characters are a relatively flat character, and they do not change dramatically throughout the play. The character Medea is cynical, wicked, scheming and unlike any other heroine in ancient times, she blames Jason for her predicament and seeks out revenge against everything that he loved. The opening act takes place in the setting outside of Jason and Medea home in Corinth, Medea standing outside irradiates to the Chorus how Jason victimized her and deserted the family. This is why owning something has more significance than may be thought, tangible goods are detrimental to a person s character, ownership of tangible goods helps to develop moral character, and ownership extends beyond objects to include intangible things as well. To begin, Plato supports the thought that having ownership of anything was detrimental. Plato heavily believed in Christian thought, and this is what shaped his biases of ownership. In summary, true Christians had no possessions and were poor; they did not require such petty things to make them happy when they had God in their lives. Mrs Perez The story Mrs. Perez , by Oscar Casares, gives the reader a real taste of the main character s life, Mrs. Perez, through flashbacks, the use of the Spanish language, and the dynamic of her family life. The author s use of literary devices such as, the use of Spanish and flashbacks, creates a real believable character. Casares gives the reader a real slice of life in this story. Realism is a major key to writing excellent excerpts. It gives the reader the ability to relate and sympathize with the story and characters. To begin with, the main protagonist, Lola Perez, is a believable character because of the frequent use of Spanish. This quote shows the reader the sadness that comes from a death of a loved one. It adds onto the realism because it shows the raw pain of death. The use of flashbacks makes Mrs. Perez more realistic. This is because the memories that Lola thinks of are not very pleasant. The majority of the flashbacks portrayed in Casares short stories involved the anger and controlling demeanor of Augustin. Her husband even though now passed, was kind of controlling in their married life. A quote that displays an unpleasant memory states, No, Lola, you re going to stop all of that ahorita mero (Casares 7). Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize that bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For years, bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders embodied the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people started changing their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like their idols. At the beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture of machoism is back and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often called gym rats just because they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on sculpting their bodies. The author mentions many actors who went through rigorous training programs to increase their muscular mass for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to get a part in the movie Conan the Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now globally famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered radical transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1 All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role that they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become physically fit for the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to defend the people. Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a unique character, and often that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are multiple examples of super dudes that try to build their careers by selling false illusions to the people. Actors such as Vin Diesel from Fast and Furious and Chris Hemsworth from Thor ended up building too much muscle and having their biceps compared to the size of canned hams . The market for fish is tremendous; so much so, that we have depleted our fishing resources, and have had to market on invasive species. As well as pollution, invasive species are damaging the lake ecosystems and food chains, made fragile by pollution and overfishing. The introduction of a new species throws off the balance of food chains. Some common invasive species include the sea lamprey, Asian carp, and zebra mussels, among many others. Zebra mussels have dramatically influenced and affected stable food chains by reducing the amount of zooplankton and phytoplankton. This presents a problem, as fish mostly feed on the drifters, and so they go hungry and die, leaving no food for larger fish to prey on. In addition to underwater disruption, it affects us as well, but only slightly. Plankton and algae especially are the most productive aquatic producers of oxygen, and by the decreasing population, we lose oxygen as well. The sea lamprey is also a problem, though it is not so influential to ecosystems as the zebra mussel. It is thought that human beings developed language c. 35,000 BCE as evidenced by cave paintings from the period of the Cro Magnon Man (c. 50,000 30,000 BCE) which appear to express concepts concerning daily life. These images suggest a language because, in some instances, they seem to tell a story (say, of a hunting expedition in which specific events occurred) rather than being simply pictures of animals and people. Written language, however, does not emerge until its invention in Sumer, southern Mesopotamia, c. 3500 3000 BCE. This early writing was called cuneiform and consisted of making specific marks in wet clay with a reed implement. The writing system of the Egyptians was already in use before the rise of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 BCE) and is thought to have developed from Mesopotamian cuneiform (though this theory is disputed) and came to be known as heiroglyphics. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song. McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect.
