Compassion In The Holocaust
Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of
others. In this case the idea of compassion could have changed the history of the world. The
Holocaust was the killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazi s during World War
2.This was truly based upon hatred of a religous group, and wouldn t be possible without Adolf
Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. Until a certain point no one was showing compassion for the
people being terrorized by this tyrant. It is unknown to historians that during this time period the
people didn t know what was happening, or they didn t want to believe what was happening. With
that being said, could compassion have been a key factor in stopping the Holocaustearlier than it
already was?
On April 23, 2009 Elie Weisel said (...)that even on the edge of the abyss, is is possible to dream
exalted dreams of compassion; . She is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the early stages of the Holocaust a boat of refugees escaped Nazi Germany and fled to
the United States. As they arrived the U.S immediately told the boat to return to Germany. How
could my country be so cold blooded? They sent them back to be brutally murdered or sent to
concentration camps. The lack of compassion at the beginning of the Holocaust was clearly
shown here. This was a chance to save hundreds of people from the Nazi s. The U.S wasn t able
to accept what was occurring on the other half of the world. Which lead them to showing no
compassion for the refugees leading to even more casualties during this terrifying time period. The
times that compassion has ever effected me the most when I was showing it towards
others.Helping people out of some of their most depressing times just makes me feel even better
about myself. It has shown me that sometimes you must put people s feelings and beliefs before
your own. That is one of the most important life lessons I will ever

Disobedience And The Social Movements Of The Civil Rights...
Civil disobedience is present in our day to day lives. During the civil rights protests occurring in
Birmingham, AL, Eugene Connor was the Commissioner of Public Safety who publicly
attacked African Americans with fire hoses and dogs. The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion
which led to major tax reformation. Another moment in history of disobedience would be the
Civil Rights movement. Oscar Wilde claims social progress is promoted through disobedience
and rebellion which is valid. Disobedience and Rebellion are human traits that promote social
progress in our society. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a time where social equality
was not present and in order for it to be obtained, rebellion and disobedience had to be used. Rosa
Parkswas a civil rights activists who caused The Montgomery Bus Boycott. This event occurred
because Rosa Parks had rejected to give up her seat to a white person which was widely frowned
upon. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political protest that went against the segregation
policy of the transport system and occurred from December 5, 1955 to December 20, 1956. On
all city transportation in Montgomery, African Americans were to remain in the back of all
trains and buses so whenever Rosa Parks had sat in the front it caused major upheaval. Many
people had claimed that Rosa Parks didn t give up her seat because she was tired but according to
Rosa Parks, I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a

Government Power In The United States
When it comes to the topic of government power most of us can agree that having a government is
a good idea. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of the way government
s powers are delegated. Whereas some are convinced that the means of the delegation are just fine
the way they are. Others maintain he idea that the federal level of government has too much power
in their hands. I believe that the means of delegation are just fine as they are. Although it is
necessary that the federal government back the state government, I think that the state government
should be the ultimate decision maker in their state. Many people believe that the federal level of
government should control what goes on everywhere in the country, which isn t a bad idea. They
believe that they should be the ultimate decision maker because they know what s best for the
country as a whole. Which is smart, but this country is too big for the federal government to know
what s best for communities and the states. There are over three hundred million people in the
United States. That is way too many people for five hundred thousand people to control. That would
mean that the government would have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large population of US citizens believe that most of the governing power should be left up to the
states. It is not a bad idea, but there are too many ways for that to go wrong. It shows in history why
that wouldn t work. After all that was our country s original idea for a governing system. Our first
constitutional type document was the Articles of Confederation. The main idea of this document
was, power to the states. Our country soon had many problems under this type of government.

Nurturer Reflection
Another major change is that Fiona was interested in working at the Nurturing Center instead of
the House of Old like in the book. If in the movie Fiona had been a carer for the old instead of a
Nurturer the whole ending would have had to be different. Since in this adaptation, she was
interested in being a Nurturer, in the beginning of the movie Jonas, Asher, and Fiona had gone
to the Nurturing Center, where they had met Gabriel. If they hadn t met Gabriel there
themselves, that scene would have been exactly like it was in the book. Jonas would have gone
home and found Gabriel. Then his father would have told him the baby s name. Fiona is given a
bigger role in the movie and for this sole reason, characters had to be manipulated in order to hit
the action quota that the director believes all young adult dystopian films need. The writers
wouldn t have been able to play out the elaborate escape scene the writers decide to add to the
movie. So, Fiona s occupation was changed and she was given the larger role as Jonas s love
interest. This way she would be able to help Jonas when he tried to take Gabriel with him and
create a distraction so that they could get away. Without her knowledge of the Nurturing Center
that would not have been possible and she also serves to be the damsel in distress targeted by the
elders for release against her will. Asher is another character the writers decide to alter. In the
book, he is known as to be the silly but good natured and playful friend. A hasty boy who talked
too fast and mixed things up (Lowry, Lois) often leading to funny situations which made him
come across as the typical class clown. In the book, his kind and funny nature ultimately lead to
his assignment as Assistant Recreational Director. A decision everyone in the book feels is a
true fit for Asher. However, in the movie Asher receive a different occupation. He is assigned as
Drone Pilot, a job coined specifically for him since there were no drones in the book. This change
seeming to come out of nowhere since it is never stated that Asher even has a remote interest to be
a pilot. With the assignment of a new role, also comes a change in personality. As the movie
progresses, Asher begins to lose his

What Was Washington s Foreign Affairs
When Washington took over office the United States was a fairly small country compared to today
there was only 11 states and around 4 million people. With no precedent for how presidents should
conduct themselves, knowing that he would set the example on how future presidents would act
Washington began to set many good examples such as respect, fairness, and integrity. Washington
supported certain nations but otherwise decided to remain neutral and stayed out of foreign affairs.
Domestically, Washington signed to start the first national bank for America, he also nominated the
first supreme court justice which was John Jay. One big thing about Washington though is that he
didn t believe in political parties and didn t take part in any party

What Did Dennings Really Do To Regan Analysis
c) What did Dennings really do to Regan? One of the most appealing theory, about the little clues
that are scattered throughout the novel and the movie that let us wonder if there is much more
behind what we see on the foreground, is the question of Burke Dennings murder. The film
director s death is indeed curious. The viewer or the reader does not witness his death, but is
merely told about it, at first no one knows who did it or how it happened. But we slowly learn,
through the policeman, that Dennings had his head twisted around with incredible strength and
thrown out of Regan s window only to land on a set of stairs. Later on, as the plot develops and
unravels, in the novel, Regan s mother, Chris, tells Father Karras that her daughter admitted to
killing the man. In the movie, however, the possibility of Regan being the murderer is never
explicitly mentioned. But one question remains however in the movie, what was Burke Dennings
doing in Regan s room when he was murdered? This question still stands in... Show more content on

This is perceived both by the viewers and the readers as one of the first signs of Regan s
possession, but could also have another meaning. Indeed, when Regan threatens one of the guests
of her mother, she says You re going to die up there , threatening the astronaut, this is explained in
the novel, since Regan is clearly described as Staring fixedly at the astronaut. But the movie is not
as precise on the matter, and one can wonder if this threat was not directed at Burke Dennings
instead. Indeed, she does not seem to be looking at anyone in particular in the movie, too
transfixed to focus on anything or anyone. And after all, Dennings is the one who ends up dying up
there , since Regan s bedroom is on the second floor of the house, and there is no further indication
concerning the astronaut s

Analyzing Romare Bearden s The Family

October 13, 2014 Romare Bearden s The Family (1941) The Family (1975) Comparisons
Romare Bearden, a great artist that expresses many feelings throughout his photos. He expresses
different types of feelings and meanings through colors, background, character demeanor, and even
the posture of the characters in the picture. My favorite painting by Romare Bearden has to be The
Family (1941) due to the fact that I had a personal connection to the picture. I never knew of
Romare Bearden s other painting that related to this one which is The Family (1975). This is a
similar picture but the family isn t as depressed as the family in the first picture. This family doesn
t seem to be struggling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His frustration is visible in the expression on his face. He appears tired of her bothering him
about it, hence the hand. The child is showing a lot of white which can represent faith, I think the
artist did this to say that the baby is giving the family faith because they are trying to provide for
their child and in order to do that they need to be able to put food on the table which won t just only
help the baby but them as a whole. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist
made her dress and lipstick red; she s fiery. She may help the husband maintain his sanity no
matter how many problems they are going through as a family. In the second picture, The Family
(1975), it seems as if it could be a picture of the same family but they are living a better life. In the
previous picture they only had a slice of bread on the table; in this picture they have a whole table
of food. It appears like they have a loaf a bread in which the man who is probably the father is
cutting. The family also has plates and cups at the table, when in the previous picture; all they
had was a plate and a fork. This may mean that the family has become more financially stable and
are able to provide for the family that was once struggling. The colors in this picture are brighter
and more joyful than the first picture. The first picture had dark colors such as dark blue, grey,
black, which often

Compare And Contrast Sixteen Candles And Ferris Bueller s...
1.After viewing both Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller s Day Off I would have to choose
Sixteen Candles to be my favorite of the two. My reasoning is because I feel the storyline and
characters were developed better, allowing the audience to feel a greater connection with the film.
When comparing the two films, Sixteen Candles comes across as more angst driven, with a strong
female lead. Ferris Bueller s Day Off has an obvious strong male lead character, with more humor
obvious throughout the film. The overall tone of Sixteen Candles is less upbeat than Ferris Bueller.
As the main character Samantha is struggling throughout the film with the acceptance of her family
forgetting her birthday, Ferris Bueller has no care in the world and refuses to be defeated. The
relationships in Ferris Bueller s Day Off are mainly friend to friend and student to authority. Sixteen
Candles depicts a more romantic aspect, with a love story being the main focus throughout.
2.Out of both of these films the one I find that strays mostly from John Hughes other teenage films
in Ferris Bueller s Day Off. Sixteen Candles, I found to be fitting with the other films because it
has a strong female lead, teen angst, and a major love story component. For example, Samantha
and Jake at the end of the film kissing in the candle light. A dramatic end scene kiss has been
depicted in Pretty in Pink as well. Ferris Bueller s Day Off on the other hand, is something
unlike any other John Hughes film. It is witty, and fast paced, not focusing on teen angst or
romance in any aspect. There are no love triangles, or finding out whether two main characters
will end up together. It takes another point of view from teenagers about being young and
enjoying life before it catches up with you. Ferris Bueller s Day Off also a strong theme of
relationships with authority figures, which we only see in the other John Hughes film, The
Breakfast Club. An example of this in the film is between Ferris and Mr. Rooney. There is
constant conflict between them, one example is when Ferris has Cameron prank call Mr. Rooney
s office. This shows not only Ferris disrespect for authority, but Mr. Rooney s disrespect for Ferris.

A RESPONSE TO ATHEISM
PHIL 201 D44 LUO

A Response to Atheism
In reading McCloskey s article it s obvious he is searching for definitive proof that God exists. He
is unable to find proof and therefore comes to the conclusion that God must not exist. He believes
that the existence of evil discredits arguments made in support of believing in God. There is not
one single thing in this world that we can know definitively without looking at the evidence. You
have to look at the whole picture. Just like in a criminal investigation, the crime scene investigators
gather evidence they are not looking for just the bullets or just the body. They look and gather all
the data before coming to any conclusions. We will discuss... Show more content on

When you look at each of the arguments individually I can see how one might come to this
conclusion. The cosmological argument only proves (if accepted) that there is a necessary being;
however it does not prove that he is divine or perfect. The teleological argument by itself leaves
us wondering why we also see chaos in the world around us. Not everything is orderly and perfect.
You need to collectively look at each of the arguments prior to coming to a conclusion about the
existence of God.
McCloskey believes that because there is evil there is no God. There could be valid reasons for the
presence of evil in the world, though some may beyond our comprehension and understanding.
There needs to be some proof or evidence provided if one wants to make a claim that it s illogical
for God and evil to exist in the same world. McCloskey s article does not provide this proof. He just
says that because there is evil there is no God.
As parents we sometimes allow bad things to happen to our children to teach them a lesson. We
make a choice to allow them to deal with the consequences of their actions so they might learn
from that experience. If we are created in the image of God isn t it possible that as our Father, he
allows us to suffer sometimes to realize the consequences of our actions? It is possible and if it s
possible then it gives a good explanation why God may allow evil things to occur.

Pocho by Jose Antonio Villarreal The 1959 novel, Pocho, by JosГ© Antonio Villarreal is an
insightful cultural exposition told primarily from the vantage point of Richard Rubio, the
coming of age son of immigrant Mexican parents who eventually settle in Santa Clara,

That is the wonder of this country of yours, my son. All the people who are pushed around in the

so that they can turn around and do the same thing to other people. . .It is not in retribution

Another response to this clash of cultures is the emergence of the zootsuiters, a lost race (p149)
generation filled with anger and frustration over their uncertain place in society. But Richard is
fascinated by their strangeness and attended their dances and fiestas as part of his journey of self

Americans, and a marked hauteur toward Mexico and toward their parents for their old country
ways. The former feeling came from a sense of inferiority that is a prominent characteristic in any
Mexican reared in southern California; and the latter was an inexplicable compensation for that
feeling. They needed to feel superior to something, which is a natural thing. The result was that
they attempted to segregate themselves from both their cultures, and became truly a lost race. (p

Kopi Luwak Essay
What is kopi Luwak?
Kopi Luwak is popularly referred to as a specialty of Indonesia. The name Kopi Luwak originated
from the Indonesian. The Kopi means coffee and Luwak means civet, it is also known as civet
coffee.
Surprisingly, most of the people involved in the history of the coffee production, could not afford to
enjoy coffee in the past, until this unintended and incredible discovery came along.
During that time, Indonesia was a Dutch colony, and the nation s workers were in charge of the
coffee plantation. Also, the workers are restricted from harvesting coffee beans for their private
uses. Instead of accepting their fate on their favorite beverage, the workers discovered great
opportunities in the most challenging situations. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, the civetcoffee is being produced in other Asia South Eastern nations like Vietnam,
Philippines and Laos, because of the high demand for the beverage by customers in the west and
different regions. Due to the high price, many producers tend to manufacture fake coffee products
similar to Kopi Luwak, or cheap coffee products made from the blend of actual kopi Luwak with
low quality beans.
Under those circumstances, a lot of civet cats experience the terrible condition in the cages that
are dirty and empty. As a result of this, animals are doomed to eat beans and live in a small space
of 2 by 1.5 meters of cement floor instead of staying in the natural environment as the producers
advertise.
Also, the signs of animal unkindness have also been discovered during the production period,
when the wild animal s diet and life pattern are forced to change for commercial purposes of
humans, and the animals were not able to climb the cages because there is limited space to do that.
Because of this, kopi Luwak production and utilization must be strictly controlled by the local
governments and responsible organizations to prevent the extinction of wild civet cats.
What is the destiny of this unusual

Analysis Of The Song Of Achilles
Madeline Miller s The Song of Achilles re tells the classic tale of The Iliad through the romantic
relationship highly speculated between Achilles and Patroclus. In a diachronic approach to
historical queer narratives, I will analyze queer identities and representation within literature with
an emphasis on contemporary queer narratives. Queer narratives are especially important stories to
perpetuate and recognize both historically and contemporarily, as they impose, perpetuate, or upset
notions of normalcy. The Song of Achillessolidifies historical queer identities and experiences that
have otherwise been absent, overlooked, or erased in the Iliad(and other historical texts). Accurate
queer representation is important for understanding the historical past, giving voice, visibility, and
validation to queer identities, and recreating identity in the present. Because language is relative
/arbitrary, queer has various meanings, depending on evolution and history and also personal
attributions. Queer has been used as an adjective to mean strange, questionable, or to not feel right,
a pejorative against queer individuals, an identity relating to a person who does not conform to a
normative sexual orientation or gender identity, a sexual orientation, and as a gender identity (such
as genderqueer). However, there is an overlooked use of the word: queer is also a verb. What does
it mean to queer something? There was a time when that phrase meant to mess it up, as in queering a

Odyssey Research Paper
Before the Odyssey is explained, there is much historical information about Ancient Greece to
cover. To begin, the time period that Odyssey is a part of is known as Homeric society. Homeric
society is a concoction of diverging assortments in various points in history. Because the setting is
a combination of different times from several coteries, the story includes many ideas and values
particular to each one. In the 8th century BC, the Mediterranean saw a growth in population after
the dark age, thus leading to the menagerie that the Ancient Greeks partook in. Moving forward,
there is much evidence that suggests that epics were created between 750 and 650 B.C.E. These
stories were set in Mycenaean Greece around the 12th century B.C.E, also known as the Bronze

In order to elicit this pristine age, the Iliad and Odyssey were written in such a style that describes
the lifestyle of those in the great kingdom of the Bronze Age. The Greeks are more often called
Achaeans which is was the name of a tribe that lived in Greece during the Bronze Age (SparkNotes
Editors 3). Moving on, in Ancient Greece, myriads of sacrifices and games were enacted in honor
of their gods and goddesses ( Gods and Festivals 1). Multitudes of competition a pivotal
component in Greece s history also involved music, dramas and athletics( Gods and Festivals 1).
For example, The Olympic Games is Ancient Greece s most well known event. They held The
Olympic Games in honor of the supreme God Zeus. In fact, about half of the year in Athens was
dedicated with sacrificial offerings and festivals to their Gods and Goddesses ( Gods and Festivals

themselves and honoring their gods. Just like today, music was an important part of their daily

Symbolism In Everything That Rises Must Converge
In Flannery O Connor s short story, Everything That Rises Must Converge , O Connor uses the
symbolism of the violet hat and the shiny new penny along with all of the things Julian s mother
has done for him throughout his life, to place the broader societal conflict of race relations within
the context of the unstable relationship Julian has with his mother, showing how poor southern
whites used blacks to elevate themselves. Julian s clashes with his mother over morals, race, and
appearances mimic the greater conflict of racial relations in society. Everything Julian s mother
sacrifices for her son isn t out of love for him; she puts him before herself only to make him fit the

From the beginning of the story we see that it s clear Julian s mother is obsessed with her
appearance. The fact that her family once had political influence and wealth (p.407), not to
mention power over the lives of 200 slaves (p.408), and now no longer has it, deeply troubles
her, prompting her to overcompensate for this loss by always dressing and looking her best in
public. When the violet hat is first introduced we learn that, [t]he hat was new and had cost her
seven dollars and a half, (p.405) She later states that she could, pay the gas bill with seven fifty,
(p.407). It is clear that with those prices and her issues with integration that this story took place

reveals that she puts her appearance before her bills, emphasizing the importance of her sense of
identity is. Her identity is what sets her apart from the rest of society, and is what her ancestors
used to elevate themselves above African Americans. It is apparent throughout the story that
Julian s mother has a preconceived notion of how things in society should be, depicting her to be

something much bigger which led to a counterculture movement across the entire country. The
American hippie movement of the 1960s was strengthened by the increase of youth population.
Many believe the official beginning of this cultural event started with the youth of the 1960 s but
it really started with their parents. In the late 1930s and early 1940s America was just coming out
of a disheartening depression.(About the Great Depression.) America s unfortunate fate led them
into another unlucky situation, World War II. Many youthful men and women joined the service,
in fact over an estimated sixteen million total were sent into the war.( GI Bill History U. S.
Department of Veterans Affairs. ) In the late 1940s soldiers coming back at the end of the war
were now onto the next stage of their lives and made families. This is what started the baby
boomers. After so many hardships and losses the last thing anyone expected was an approximately
seventy six million babies born between baby boomer era of about ten to fifteen years. (BBHQ:

Nationalism In NFL
Nationalism While living in the United States of America, the expectation is to stand and place a
hand over the heart while the playing of the national anthem, and during the saying of the pledge of
allegiance. This shows nationalism and respect for the country and what the country has been
through to get to where it is. Throughout the National Football League(NFL) 2017 2018 season, not
standing during the playing of the national anthem has led to many controversial disagreements.
Citizens of the United Statesof America should always stand during the playing of the national
anthem if able to do so. Nationalism can mean numerous things depending on the person defining it.

meaning. A common meaning of nationalism is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of doing the expected during the playing of the national anthem, which is standing and
placing the right hand over the heart while facing the flag, some of the players decided to either
kneel, sit, or don t even come out of the tunnel during the playing of the Anthem. One of many
examples of this is when the Pittsburgh Steelers team was absent during the national anthem, except
one player, Alejandro Villanueva, a veteran who served in the army for three years in Afghanistan.
While his teammates stayed in the locker room, Villanueva stood outside the tunnel, proud, with his
hand on his heart. Head coach Mike Tomlin told the team before the game We re not participating in

Solving the Byod Problem for the Enterprise

computing, as we know it, is facing a dimensional shift with the widespread diffusion of the
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) phenomenon. BYOD is the latest trend hitting businesses
where employees are bringing their own personal mobile devices. Some of these devices include
smartphones and tablets which are brought into their place of work, and used on the corporate

Lastly, execution of the BYOD policy should provide an implementation that coincides with the
needs of the other key issues. III. Models and Frameworks. Models and frameworks provide the
ability to analyze, a structured set of essential components of an object for which clear
expressions is necessary and perhaps even mandatory for creating, operating, and changing the
object (Zachman, 2008). The object is the enterprise and the ability to implement any new
business policy requires structure from models and frameworks. The models and frameworks that
relate to providing structure in implementing BYOD are the Zachman Framework, Rogers
Diffusion of Innovation Theory, Risk IT framework and Val IT Framework. The Zachman
Framework is the foundation for architecture of any kind and enterprises that are growing in
complexity can be represented with the Zachman Framework. With bring your own device the

Descartes Mind and Body
Descartes Mind Body Dualism
Rene Descartes main purpose is to attempt to prove that the mind that is the soul or the thinking
thing is distinct and is separate from the body. This thinking thing was the core of himself, which
doubts, believes, reasons, feels and thinks. Descartes considers the body to be an extended
unthinking thing; therefore it is possible that one may exist without the other. This view is known
as mind body dualism. He believes that what he is thinking in his mind is what God created and
instilled in him. Descartes outlines many arguments to support and prove his claims of his
discoveries. He states that because he can think, his mind exists. This is known as the Cogito,
which is the first existential principal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does not rule out other possibilities, such as waking up to find oneself to be not a human but a
different form of life. Therefore the statement of the body is too broad to specifically identify as
being in human form. Also, it should be noted that the Cogito only works for the thought. It
cannot be used in a sense that, I can walk or sleep therefore I exist since I can doubt these actions
carried out by the body. The reason why a person cannot doubt itself is because the doubt is in a
form of a thought in ones mind, not an action of our body.
Descartes discusses that physical objects are more known distinctly through the mind than
through the body and explains his reason further in the Wax Argument. The Wax Argument
describes how Descartes wanted to show that we come to know things using the intellectual
parts of our brain rather than through our senses. Basically, Descartes is trying to prove that we
know the mind truly better than anything else, like our bodies and the world outside of the
mind. This argument begins by describing the process of change by which solid wax melts until
it has changed its phase of matter to form a liquid puddle. Descartes describes the wax uses his
senses as he says, Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If
you wrap it with your knuckle it will emit a sound. In short, everything is present in that it appears

The Taming of the Shrew
William Shakespeare is considered the greatest playwright of all time. His gift for developing
characters is one major exposure that accounts for this dignified acknowledgement. Shakespeare
have written on several characters and the conversion of their ideas and personalities from foolish
to generals and leaders. The characters were represented with such realism that spectators can judge
their personalities and views with their personalities for better or poorer. When we hear or think of
the word feminine the things come in our mind are quiet, modest, restrained, pretty and maternal.

Lucentio imitates the sort of tranquil, poetical view of love that Petruchio s inevitability dismisses.
Lucentio is hit by love for Bianca at first sight, says that he will die if he cannot win her heart, and
subsequently puts into motion a romantic and fanciful plan to do so. Whereas love in the play is
often mitigated by economic and social concerns. The difference between Lucentio and Petruchio
discriminates The Taming of the Shrew from other Elizabethan plays. Through Lucentio and
Bianca, the play looks beyond the moment when the quixotic lovers are wed and represents the
penalties of the costumes and stratagems they have attractively employed to expedite their
romance. Once the practical business of being married begins, Lucentio s fixation with courtly love
seems somewhat old fashioned and ludicrous. In the end, it is Petruchio s disturbing, colorful
uncomplicatedness that harvests a happy and functioning marriage, and Lucentio s poeticized
instincts leave him humiliated when Bianca refuses to answer his summons. Love certainly exists
in the world of The Taming of the Shrew, but Lucentio s dramatic love, striking however it is,
appears incapable to survive with the full range of problems and considerations facing married

Democratic And Republican Candidates For President Of The...
As I write this book, Democratic and Republican candidates are getting in position to run for the
President of the United States in 2016. Hillary Clinton was the first Democrat to throw her hat
in the ring and right away the Republican Party began attacking her for using her personal email
and business email together. They also more than insinuated that she had deleted some of the
emails from the server she had at her home and accused her of lying about it. However, whether
she did or didn t delete some of her emails is irrelevant to me because most if not all politicians
lie in one form or another to protect their interest. That s just a fact! I know some of you will
raise your eyebrows and say, I can t believe she said that...well, I did and I mean it. In Hillary s
position, I don t believe I would have turned all my emails over to anyone. I can remember
coming in late to my job one day and found that my computer had been hijacked by the
compliance and auditing department. I was given some lie about someone had gone to the press
and put out bad or negative information about the company and I was told that I and a few
others were thought to be among the culprits. At the time, I can recall feeling a tremendous
invasion of privacy and I didn t believe I had done anything to raise any suspicion about me.
However, it took me ten years, after leaving the company, to figure out that I was told a lie and
that I was in fact, being investigated. Why, well it all goes

Lois Lowry s The Giver
Everything a writer experiences as a young person goes into the later writing in some form
(Albert 9). Lois Lowry is a Newbery medal children s author. She has written numerous novels,
but the one that stood out the most would be The Giver. As Lowry began to write The Giver she
took her emotions, memories and personal stories to write about this book. She makes the setting
of the story in the future where all the people have no memory and no free will. Also, every time
something fearful happens in her life, she never lets it get in the way. Instead, fear makes her a
stronger person and forces her to get the job done. Lois Lowryhas been collecting her memories
and life events from the past and uses them to create her stories for The Giver.
Lois Lowry is a novelist who was born in Oahu, Hawaii on March 20, 1937. Lois Lowry grew up
in a home with books because of her mother, so Lois was influenced by her family and became
interested in reading at an early age. She decided that she wanted to become a writer at age nine.
Lois has grown up in several places. To start with, she moved to New York where she began

While a large company, Walgreens is not the low cost leader in the industry and faces serious
competition from discounters, who are willing to accept lower margins on prescription drugs
because they can make up for lost profit in other categories. Walgreens probably will not match
these prices, meaning that Walgreens has chosen not to compete on price in its most important
category. Since, Walgreens cannot compete against discounters on price, the company has failed
to fully exploit its main advantage over these retailers, its ability to provide convenience to its
customers. 2. While the company is increasing the presence of 24 hour locations and drive thru
facilities, the interior layout of a Walgreens store does not always reflect its commitment to
convenience. For example, Walgreens stores in Salem, Oregon, appear crowded with
merchandise, an atmosphere that is contrary to the clean image of fast service that Walgreens
would like to portray. There, upon entering a Walgreens store, one encounters aisles of
merchandise stacked to the ceiling. The first items evident are seasonal merchandise and novelty
goods. Health care items are not readily visible and are located toward the rear of the store. The
actual pharmacy may be located in the farthest corner from the door, without distinct design or clear

The Oxford dictionary defines a hipster as a person who follows the latest styles and fashions,
especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream (Fowler, Fowler and Murray,
1964). Since hipsters are a modern phenomenon, definitions are often broad and contradictory.
There also exists little scholarship concerning the subject since their subcultural formation must be
analyzed while it is still in formation. The lack of interest in academia contrasts to the immense
quantity of opinions regarding the phenomenon made by journalists, bloggers and layman experts
(Scheimer, 2013). This essay will attempt to fill the gap in anthropological literature. We will focus

The word referred to their behaviour and their way of dressing. Towards the end of the 50s, this
group of people came to be known as the Beatnik generation. (Rasmussen, Boas, Rasmussen, King

attitude and left wing ideology are all rooted in Beatnik subculture.
Although there is no tangible definition, most attempts at defining elements of the hipster
subcultural identity agrees that hipsters are young, typically between 20 and 35 years old, most
likely white and from a middle class background. They can be either male or female. They are
most likely studying towards an arts degree or have recently graduated. Hipsters are interested in
alternative culture: left of center politics, indie music, independent films, thrift store or vintage
fashion, Apple products and a diet of locally grown, organic or vegetarian/vegan food(Scheimer,

subgroups who selectively embrace or shun the items or opinions above.

According to Adler, this initial state of inadequacy people obtain is the result of factors, such as
neglect in their childhood, that significantly influence and shape how a child perceives him or
herself as well as the choices he or she makes. Therefore, only through assisting people in
identifying the factors that led them to the distorted view of themselves can change, healing,
growth, and the development of a new, healthy self image occur. Playing a major role in child
development, among numerous other areas, Adler s beliefs and theories became widely accepted
within the world of psychology therefore significantly influencing modern day psychology.
William James William James was an American philosopher whose work in psychology in the
nineteenth century recognized science as a crucial element in the improvement of social and

Fast Foods And Fast Food
Fast food, by name itself is the food that consumes comparatively less amount of time to be
prepared than the food that we order from the restaurants. They are preheated and precooked
which is served to customer in a packaged form or take away. Fast foods are the most common
food these days and these restaurants are growing rapidly worldwide. People of all ages love fast
foodand it is more popular among young people. The important reasons for this business to grow
are the busy schedule people have today. Fast food saves a lot of time and is providing
employment to large number of people. In contrary to that, it is unhealthy, and people are gaining
weight constantly.
Fast food saves a lot of time. It is easier to cook and faster to deliver to the people. I have always
been thankful to fast food restaurants whenever I am late to work or I am not able to cook food
for me. For instance, in fast foods like McDonalds, Subway, Chipotle and so on, it does not even
take 5 minutes to make an order the food. Unlike, if we go to dine in restaurants they take a lot of
time to make an order and then bring it to the guest. It almost takes s 45 minutes to finish eating
after I get to the restaurants. If I calculate the time, fast food is saving 5 hours and 25 minutes a
week, which is a plenty of time. Similarly, the most common and famous facility that the fast food
restaurants are having these days is the drive thru facilities. It is very helpful to the people with
busy routine. In this

Silver DBQ
Silver DBQ Essay
The global flow of silver from the mid sixteenth century to the early eighteenth century had vast
effects both socially and economically around the world. By this time an interregional trade
network had been clearly established and world trade was booming. When China, a prominent trade
nation, accepted silver as its currency and would only exchange for it, the importance of silver
increased. This new rapid scramble for silver proved to be both beneficial and disastrous. While
countries which were lucky geographically in their supply of raw silver could now trade
prominently with China, demand created an increase of labor and social unrest. Reliance on silver

2). Europe seemed to remain the most neutral in this desperate silver trade, choosing to remain
only involved enough to observe. British merchants were not entirely reliant on trade to or from
the Asian worlds so merely recorded how China received nothing but silver (Doc. 4) and the
Portuguese use this to their good advantage in China . However, England could not remain
completely unaffected as scholars such as Charles D Avenant observed. Luxury goods
especially spices and silks have become prominent in European culture. While Europe draws
from Asia nothing on solid use it has tasted of this luxury (Doc. 8) and it is not advisable for
England to pull out of this silver trade. England could afford to remain more objective, but it
could not pull out entirely. It had roots planted early on, and it would cause severe social
disturbance to tear them up. Yet despite any conjectures drawn from accounts of scholars,
merchants, officials and priests it is impossible to know the full extent of the economic and
social effects of silver without the voice of the common people. It was the commoners, laborers,
slaves, farmers and peasants which bore the full brunt of the trade. Their every day lives relied on
day to day paychecks, which mandated how they survived. It is the rise and fall of poverty in the
peasantry, the social unrest or benefit of the commoners that would reveal the true effect of silver.

Unforgettable Character
As important as the plot, narrative, and cast are to a film, the audience s reaction to a film and its
characters is equally relevant. A stronger reaction or connection to a character, either positive or
negative, allows the character to leave a lasting impression on the audience, even if the film s plot
itself is not extraordinary or memorable. An unforgettable charactercan be the result of their
persona, actions, relationships with others, or the actors or actress performances. Mark, Harry, and
Ada are different characters from various films that elicit positive connections, negative
connections, or mixed emotional feelings in the audience. Through the use of archetypal personality
characteristics, non linear narratives, flashbacks, sweeping wide shots, intense dramatic scenes,
somber or sinister music, and powerfully compelling relationships with other characters, the
filmmakers create both strong positive and negative psychological and emotional connections with
the audience to the characters.
The audience who personally associate with family and money struggles generally view Mark,
played by Henry Lau, in a positive light. Mark is a young man who chooses to leave home in
Singapore to save his family restaurant by entering a cooking competition in Shanghai and wins the
jackpot. The narrative is set in modern day Singapore and Shanghai. By using wide, establishing

The current economic situation is terrible. In 2011, blacks made 66 cents for every dollar earned

Americans break the poverty cycle? What caused this? One suggestion says that under resourced

to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of Whites. This is due to unfair drug laws, over
policing and prosecutions in black neighborhoods and overenthusiastic district attorneys. If
America can find a way to improve educational attainment for black males and eliminate disparate
rates of incarceration for drug offences would begin to break the poverty cycle. The main

Zeitoun
By: Dave Eggers
After September 11, 2001 I ve had trouble finding what makes me more angry; the way the
authorities handled the hurricane of Katrina or the way the Arabs were treated. I have herd
countless stories related to the 9/11 attack and until today I see the way that has affected the lives of
many. Through Eggers story, I was able to comprehend more about the tragedy in New Orleans and
even though I thought I already knew about the aftermath that Katrina brought, Eggers grabbed my
attention by introducing me to the story of a Syrian American middle aged man named
Abdulrahman Zeitoun. He was a father of four, married to an American wife Kathy and owned a ...

Can you imagine sleeping in a tent on the the flat part of the roof? and during the day trying to
save others while fighting the high polluted water with not only trash but dead people that once
was shared this beautiful state. I couldn t help worry about his wife Kathy, not only because she
was alone with her four kids but if that s not bad enough for her she is given a hard time because
since she converted, her hijabb brought a lot of controversies not only to the citizens of
American but to her own family as well. If that s not enough to keep you in the edge of your seat
I was worried along with her when she couldn t get a hold of him, especially when she called her
own home and some stranger answered her call. If I were her I would ve lost it thinking the worst.
The story soon looped into something more overwhelming than the simple tale of the hurricane
Katrina. Zeitoun was arrested in his own home by six officers and it broke my heart that he
actually thinks that they are there to help him, little did he know that they were there to hurt him
and falsely charge him with looting. Obviously he was treated with the upmost unfair treatment
because he was Muslim. He was immediately sent to a makeshift prison and wasn t even allowed
to have his one call, of course, had he been American this wouldn t be the case.

Parable Of The Sower By Octavia E. Butler
Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler can be categorized as an environmental novel, a
utopian tale within dystopian tale and hero s journey. A utopian novel is defined as a fiction
where readers find characteristics that they would like to implement in society. This is a novel
about a young woman named Lauren along with others who finds herself in a prisoned like
world. They find themselves in a society where everything is controlled and offers them no
possibility of ever living a normal life. There are no jobs for the young, broken marriages and
homes, poor economy and worst yet, constant fear as thieves and drug addicts rule their lives
outside the walls. In this novel we meet a brave young womanwho embarks on the journey to
freedom and exhibits the quality as a female leader and also inspires people to travel with her. This
story strongly fits the qualities of a feminist novel as it illustrates a African American women who
is determined to succeed in an exceptionally difficult circumstance.
To further prove that the Parable of the Sower best fits the qualities of a feminist novel, we must
first understand this genre of novel. Feminist novels, depicts the importance of the feminist
movement which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparsion Of Adam And Eve In The Book Of Genesis
Inthe book of Genesis God reveals himself to Adam after he ate the forbidden fruit. God knew
that Adam and Eve had disobeyed him and disobedience leads to sin and sin leads to death and
so that is why he came by to see what they had done. Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through
the Holy Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know
that if we don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves.
According to the Bible, the Lord God took man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and
to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou may
freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the
day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis. 2:15 17 King James Version). This is
important because God had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could
also die. He was given the task to rule over the Garden of even, but there was just one thing he
could not do. Adam was not to eat fruit of the tree of knowledge, because his life would be taken
away. By Adam being disobedient, us as humans are now living in a world filled with sin.... Show

Technology Is An Essential Part Of All Walks Of Everyday Life
Technology is an essential part of all walks of everyday life nearly everywhere on the planet. This
is especially true in the use in education, such as engineering to create devices and how to program
said devices. However, with technology comes with it the high cost of equipment, infrastructure,
sparse communication avenues and energy to power it all. Several years ago intrepid group of
Cambridge educators including Ebon Upton realized that we must prepare for the future demand of
computerscience skills in both to design and to program, but also to have a fundamental
understanding of how these devices interact with the surrounding environment. In 2006 they

Hispanic Heritage-Heritage Month Reflection
On September 15 I went to La Bienvenida that was held on campus, in the Peace Garden. Before
this year, I have never heard of Hispanic heritage month and no one meant it in my high school.
The only time I heard about a group of being recognized in a month is African Americans. This is
commonly known as black history month, or also known as African American history month, is
widely recognized and acknowledged. This is taken in February to remember important people and
event that happened in history. Reflecting back, I ask myself why Hispanic heritage month was not
meeting about in my history class or at school. Even though Hispanic heritage month specifically
was not mentioned, there was a day in my high school where different ethnicity students went on
stage and performed a cultural dance. One of the most famous Mexican culture dance is Folklorico
and it was a good feeling seeing the Mexican cultural being represented.

The Mayans Research Paper
The Mayan civilization existed in what today is Central America, between 250 AD and 900 AD.
They grew to have more than 40 cities with populations ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 people per
city. These facts make their demise a complete mystery to the rest of us who have live after this
period and know of their great innovations in subjects including Astrology, Architecture, Religion
and Agriculture. The Mayans were an advanced civilization that lived for over 600 years with an
estimated population of over 19 million. Scientists, historians and archeologists have been able to
prove their level of advancement in different ways. Mayans aligned their limestone structures such
as palaces and temples to celestial bodies with mathematical precision. They became effective
farmers and their understanding of Agriculture led them to improve the productivity of their main
source of nutrition which was corn (Maize). (Olver, 2015) Their knowledge of Astronomy led
them to create the most accurate calendar in the ancient world. They also created a writing system
and had a government system with laws and punishment assigned to those who broke their laws.

Gunther Von Hagen s Plastinates
Plastination is a process of preserving tissue by embedding tissues with synthetic materials such
as silicone polymers to produce dry, odorless, easy to handle, and non hazardous specimens ideal
for teaching anatomy, pathology, radiology, and surgery. They are also long lasting so less
cadavers are required for learning. It was invented by Professor Gunther Von Hagens, a German
born Physician and Anatomist. He discovered this process in 1977 experimenting with kidney
slices. The technique replaces blood, fat, water, and other fluids with plastic, enabling corpse
tissue to be preserved for centuries. Von Hagens displays his plastinates in a manner in which all
internal organs, nerves, blood vessels, and bones can be viewed by the public. There

Hurricanes are a yearly event, and they can create deadly destruction. If you live near the coast
or in an area prone to hurricanes, it is important to be wary of how to prepare for one of these
storms to ensure that you are protected. Preparing for a hurricane can be accomplished in these
steps. To prepare for an upcoming hurricane, one needs to first gather essential materials. During
a hurricane, lighting, strong winds, and flash floods may occur, so it is important for you to
stay indoors and off of roads. Blackouts may also occur, so make certain you are prepared
beforehand and gather nonperishable food items, bottles of water, flashlights, and plenty of

Hurricanes can have detrimental effects to your house, so be certain you board up the windows
on the outside to keep them from shattering. To do this, use thick plywood to cover up the
windows and the areas around them using nails or screws to secure the wood. After this, walk
around your yard and gather up anything valuable that might be swept away by strong winds.
Also you need to be certain that nothing that can be damaged or can easily float away is left
outside. This includes children s toys, chairs, and tools. If not safely sealed away, these objects
could be thrown against your house, causing damage such as shattered windows and broken
panels. Moreover, you also may wish to invest in sandbags to protect your home from flood
waters. Watch the local news to figure out where sandbags are being distributed. IT can also be a
wise move to move anything valuable off the floor and on top of cabinets incase rising floodwaters
become too much for the sandbags Before the weather worsens, make sure your belongs and home

Chamberlain s Policy Toward Germany Essays
Chamberlain s Policy Toward Germany
Appeasement is the term used to describe the foreign policies of the British Conservative
governments of Baldwin (1935 37) and Chamberlain (1937 40) and also those of France and
America to a lesser extent. Appeasement involved making concessions to the two main dictators of
Europe; Hitler and Mussolini.
Hitler broke many of the stipulations of the Treaty of Versailles, yet nothing active was done, there
was only spoken denunciation of his actions. Hitler stopped paying reparations in 1933. Hitler
began to openly rearm in 1935. Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland on 7 March 1936. He united

Aerial bombardment was also a real threat as had been demonstrated by the Luftwafe in
Guernica where the whole town had been destroyed. The worry was that this could happen to
London, meaning many civilian casualties on the home front it would be total war. Furthermore,
Britain was more worried about defending its empire and had been concerned about the threat
from Japan in the Far East. It could not deal with aggression from both Germany and Japan. In
economic terms, Britain was still suffering from the effects of the Great Depression and
Chamberlain was reluctant to spend vast sums of money on improving the country s armed
forces. Weak defences, he believed, would not matter if Britain avoided war. Public opinion also
supported appeasement and there was a mood of pacifism. Chamberlain, as an elected
representative, was doing his job by representing the views of his people when considering foreign
affairs.
Secondly, Chamberlain held a good view of Hitler and Germany. Chamberlain felt that the Treaty
of Versailles had been too harsh and took a favourable view of Hitler s complaints about how
unfair the treaty had been to Germany. He believed that if Germany s complaints were dealt with
fairly then Europe could look forward to a long period of peace. Chamberlain also thought that
Hitler was a reasonable man and admired him for his economic successes and achievement of

Have you ever sat and wondered how the four seasons were created? Are you curious to know

ancient times, back when people worshipped Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest. Demeter
cared for everything that grew on Earth, every plant, fruit and grain. She taught men and women
how to plant seeds and plough fields. She asked Sun to shine for the land, and Rain to bring water.
She helped farmers harvest their crops. The people loved their kind earth mother and listened

Anorexia Nervosa And The Adolescent Self Essay
The thought of a diet has crossed the mind of many females. Maybe she wants to lose a few
pounds to fit in her prom dress, or get back down to her college size. However, what if the mental
capacity of that person, would not let them end the diet. In her mind she is still fat, even if she
weighed only ninety pounds, this happens to a female with Anorexia Nervous (AN).
Merriam Webster.com defines Anorexia Nervous as: a serious disorder in eating behavior
primarily of young women in their teens and early twenties that is characterized especially by a
pathological fear of weight gain leading to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually
excessive weight loss . Fifth teen percent of the people with eating disorders are male which
leaves ninety five to be female (Boskind White 219). Author, Wendy Jones also agrees with
Merriam Webster.com that AN begins at adolescent, as she implies in her magazine article
Anorexia Nervosa and the Adolescent Self it reads:
Often, anorexia surfaces around puberty, which is of course when the young person is searching
for self identity; if the foundations of this are weak, for whatever reason, perhaps it is not
surprising that this is when the illness develops. It seems likely, though, that all sorts of things are
happening within the individual psyche prior to this, which could potentially be worked on earlier,
with the aim of preventing the full blown illness from developing.
However, there are others like the who suggests

  • 2. Compassion In The Holocaust Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. In this case the idea of compassion could have changed the history of the world. The Holocaust was the killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazi s during World War 2.This was truly based upon hatred of a religous group, and wouldn t be possible without Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. Until a certain point no one was showing compassion for the people being terrorized by this tyrant. It is unknown to historians that during this time period the people didn t know what was happening, or they didn t want to believe what was happening. With that being said, could compassion have been a key factor in stopping the Holocaustearlier than it already was? On April 23, 2009 Elie Weisel said (...)that even on the edge of the abyss, is is possible to dream exalted dreams of compassion; . She is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the early stages of the Holocaust a boat of refugees escaped Nazi Germany and fled to the United States. As they arrived the U.S immediately told the boat to return to Germany. How could my country be so cold blooded? They sent them back to be brutally murdered or sent to concentration camps. The lack of compassion at the beginning of the Holocaust was clearly shown here. This was a chance to save hundreds of people from the Nazi s. The U.S wasn t able to accept what was occurring on the other half of the world. Which lead them to showing no compassion for the refugees leading to even more casualties during this terrifying time period. The times that compassion has ever effected me the most when I was showing it towards others.Helping people out of some of their most depressing times just makes me feel even better about myself. It has shown me that sometimes you must put people s feelings and beliefs before your own. That is one of the most important life lessons I will ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Disobedience And The Social Movements Of The Civil Rights... Civil disobedience is present in our day to day lives. During the civil rights protests occurring in Birmingham, AL, Eugene Connor was the Commissioner of Public Safety who publicly attacked African Americans with fire hoses and dogs. The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion which led to major tax reformation. Another moment in history of disobedience would be the Civil Rights movement. Oscar Wilde claims social progress is promoted through disobedience and rebellion which is valid. Disobedience and Rebellion are human traits that promote social progress in our society. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a time where social equality was not present and in order for it to be obtained, rebellion and disobedience had to be used. Rosa Parkswas a civil rights activists who caused The Montgomery Bus Boycott. This event occurred because Rosa Parks had rejected to give up her seat to a white person which was widely frowned upon. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political protest that went against the segregation policy of the transport system and occurred from December 5, 1955 to December 20, 1956. On all city transportation in Montgomery, African Americans were to remain in the back of all trains and buses so whenever Rosa Parks had sat in the front it caused major upheaval. Many people had claimed that Rosa Parks didn t give up her seat because she was tired but according to Rosa Parks, I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a ... • 4. Government Power In The United States When it comes to the topic of government power most of us can agree that having a government is a good idea. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of the way government s powers are delegated. Whereas some are convinced that the means of the delegation are just fine the way they are. Others maintain he idea that the federal level of government has too much power in their hands. I believe that the means of delegation are just fine as they are. Although it is necessary that the federal government back the state government, I think that the state government should be the ultimate decision maker in their state. Many people believe that the federal level of government should control what goes on everywhere in the country, which isn t a bad idea. They believe that they should be the ultimate decision maker because they know what s best for the country as a whole. Which is smart, but this country is too big for the federal government to know what s best for communities and the states. There are over three hundred million people in the United States. That is way too many people for five hundred thousand people to control. That would mean that the government would have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large population of US citizens believe that most of the governing power should be left up to the states. It is not a bad idea, but there are too many ways for that to go wrong. It shows in history why that wouldn t work. After all that was our country s original idea for a governing system. Our first constitutional type document was the Articles of Confederation. The main idea of this document was, power to the states. Our country soon had many problems under this type of government. There were different currencies state by state: that caused many problems throughout the economy. Our country was crippling under this type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Nurturer Reflection Another major change is that Fiona was interested in working at the Nurturing Center instead of the House of Old like in the book. If in the movie Fiona had been a carer for the old instead of a Nurturer the whole ending would have had to be different. Since in this adaptation, she was interested in being a Nurturer, in the beginning of the movie Jonas, Asher, and Fiona had gone to the Nurturing Center, where they had met Gabriel. If they hadn t met Gabriel there themselves, that scene would have been exactly like it was in the book. Jonas would have gone home and found Gabriel. Then his father would have told him the baby s name. Fiona is given a bigger role in the movie and for this sole reason, characters had to be manipulated in order to hit the action quota that the director believes all young adult dystopian films need. The writers wouldn t have been able to play out the elaborate escape scene the writers decide to add to the movie. So, Fiona s occupation was changed and she was given the larger role as Jonas s love interest. This way she would be able to help Jonas when he tried to take Gabriel with him and create a distraction so that they could get away. Without her knowledge of the Nurturing Center that would not have been possible and she also serves to be the damsel in distress targeted by the elders for release against her will. Asher is another character the writers decide to alter. In the book, he is known as to be the silly but good natured and playful friend. A hasty boy who talked too fast and mixed things up (Lowry, Lois) often leading to funny situations which made him come across as the typical class clown. In the book, his kind and funny nature ultimately lead to his assignment as Assistant Recreational Director. A decision everyone in the book feels is a true fit for Asher. However, in the movie Asher receive a different occupation. He is assigned as Drone Pilot, a job coined specifically for him since there were no drones in the book. This change seeming to come out of nowhere since it is never stated that Asher even has a remote interest to be a pilot. With the assignment of a new role, also comes a change in personality. As the movie progresses, Asher begins to lose his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Was Washington s Foreign Affairs When Washington took over office the United States was a fairly small country compared to today there was only 11 states and around 4 million people. With no precedent for how presidents should conduct themselves, knowing that he would set the example on how future presidents would act Washington began to set many good examples such as respect, fairness, and integrity. Washington supported certain nations but otherwise decided to remain neutral and stayed out of foreign affairs. Domestically, Washington signed to start the first national bank for America, he also nominated the first supreme court justice which was John Jay. • 8. What Did Dennings Really Do To Regan Analysis c) What did Dennings really do to Regan? One of the most appealing theory, about the little clues that are scattered throughout the novel and the movie that let us wonder if there is much more behind what we see on the foreground, is the question of Burke Dennings murder. The film director s death is indeed curious. The viewer or the reader does not witness his death, but is merely told about it, at first no one knows who did it or how it happened. But we slowly learn, through the policeman, that Dennings had his head twisted around with incredible strength and thrown out of Regan s window only to land on a set of stairs. Later on, as the plot develops and unravels, in the novel, Regan s mother, Chris, tells Father Karras that her daughter admitted to killing the man. In the movie, however, the possibility of Regan being the murderer is never explicitly mentioned. But one question remains however in the movie, what was Burke Dennings doing in Regan s room when he was murdered? This question still stands in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is perceived both by the viewers and the readers as one of the first signs of Regan s possession, but could also have another meaning. Indeed, when Regan threatens one of the guests of her mother, she says You re going to die up there , threatening the astronaut, this is explained in the novel, since Regan is clearly described as Staring fixedly at the astronaut. But the movie is not as precise on the matter, and one can wonder if this threat was not directed at Burke Dennings instead. Indeed, she does not seem to be looking at anyone in particular in the movie, too transfixed to focus on anything or anyone. And after all, Dennings is the one who ends up dying up there , since Regan s bedroom is on the second floor of the house, and there is no further indication concerning the astronaut s ... • 9. Analyzing Romare Bearden s The Family Khari Vanderbilt Mr.Inguito English 1C October 13, 2014 Romare Bearden s The Family (1941) The Family (1975) Comparisons Romare Bearden, a great artist that expresses many feelings throughout his photos. He expresses different types of feelings and meanings through colors, background, character demeanor, and even the posture of the characters in the picture. My favorite painting by Romare Bearden has to be The Family (1941) due to the fact that I had a personal connection to the picture. I never knew of Romare Bearden s other painting that related to this one which is The Family (1975). This is a similar picture but the family isn t as depressed as the family in the first picture. This family doesn t seem to be struggling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His frustration is visible in the expression on his face. He appears tired of her bothering him about it, hence the hand. The child is showing a lot of white which can represent faith, I think the artist did this to say that the baby is giving the family faith because they are trying to provide for their child and in order to do that they need to be able to put food on the table which won t just only help the baby but them as a whole. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist made her dress and lipstick red; she s fiery. She may help the husband maintain his sanity no matter how many problems they are going through as a family. In the second picture, The Family (1975), it seems as if it could be a picture of the same family but they are living a better life. • 10. Compare And Contrast Sixteen Candles And Ferris Bueller s... 1.After viewing both Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller s Day Off I would have to choose Sixteen Candles to be my favorite of the two. My reasoning is because I feel the storyline and characters were developed better, allowing the audience to feel a greater connection with the film. When comparing the two films, Sixteen Candles comes across as more angst driven, with a strong female lead. Ferris Bueller s Day Off has an obvious strong male lead character, with more humor obvious throughout the film. The overall tone of Sixteen Candles is less upbeat than Ferris Bueller. As the main character Samantha is struggling throughout the film with the acceptance of her family forgetting her birthday, Ferris Bueller has no care in the world and refuses to be defeated. The relationships in Ferris Bueller s Day Off are mainly friend to friend and student to authority. Sixteen Candles depicts a more romantic aspect, with a love story being the main focus throughout. 2.Out of both of these films the one I find that strays mostly from John Hughes other teenage films in Ferris Bueller s Day Off. Sixteen Candles, I found to be fitting with the other films because it has a strong female lead, teen angst, and a major love story component. For example, Samantha and Jake at the end of the film kissing in the candle light. A dramatic end scene kiss has been depicted in Pretty in Pink as well. Ferris Bueller s Day Off on the other hand, is something unlike any other John Hughes film. It is witty, and fast paced, not focusing on teen angst or romance in any aspect. There are no love triangles, or finding out whether two main characters will end up together. It takes another point of view from teenagers about being young and enjoying life before it catches up with you. Ferris Bueller s Day Off also a strong theme of relationships with authority figures, which we only see in the other John Hughes film, The Breakfast Club. An example of this in the film is between Ferris and Mr. Rooney. There is constant conflict between them, one example is when Ferris has Cameron prank call Mr. Rooney s office. This shows not only Ferris disrespect for authority, but Mr. Rooney s disrespect for Ferris. 3.Breaking the fourth wall is something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is unable to find proof and therefore comes to the conclusion that God must not exist. He believes that the existence of evil discredits arguments made in support of believing in God. There is not one single thing in this world that we can know definitively without looking at the evidence. You have to look at the whole picture. When you look at each of the arguments individually I can see how one might come to this conclusion. The cosmological argument only proves (if accepted) that there is a necessary being; however it does not prove that he is divine or perfect. The teleological argument by itself leaves us wondering why we also see chaos in the world around us. Not everything is orderly and perfect. You need to collectively look at each of the arguments prior to coming to a conclusion about the existence of God. McCloskey believes that because there is evil there is no God. There could be valid reasons for the presence of evil in the world, though some may beyond our comprehension and understanding. There needs to be some proof or evidence provided if one wants to make a claim that it s illogical for God and evil to exist in the same world. McCloskey s article does not provide this proof. He just says that because there is evil there is no God. As parents we sometimes allow bad things to happen to our children to teach them a lesson. We make a choice to allow them to deal with the consequences of their actions so they might learn from that experience. If we are created in the image of God isn t it possible that as our Father, he allows us to suffer sometimes to realize the consequences of our actions? • 16. Analysis Of The Song Of Achilles Madeline Miller s The Song of Achilles re tells the classic tale of The Iliad through the romantic relationship highly speculated between Achilles and Patroclus. In a diachronic approach to historical queer narratives, I will analyze queer identities and representation within literature with an emphasis on contemporary queer narratives. Queer narratives are especially important stories to perpetuate and recognize both historically and contemporarily, as they impose, perpetuate, or upset notions of normalcy. The Song of Achillessolidifies historical queer identities and experiences that have otherwise been absent, overlooked, or erased in the Iliad(and other historical texts). Accurate queer representation is important for understanding the historical past, giving voice, visibility, and validation to queer identities, and recreating identity in the present. Because language is relative /arbitrary, queer has various meanings, depending on evolution and history and also personal attributions. Queer has been used as an adjective to mean strange, questionable, or to not feel right, a pejorative against queer individuals, an identity relating to a person who does not conform to a normative sexual orientation or gender identity, a sexual orientation, and as a gender identity (such as genderqueer). Descartes considers the body to be an extended unthinking thing; therefore it is possible that one may exist without the other. This view is known as mind body dualism. Therefore the statement of the body is too broad to specifically identify as being in human form. Also, it should be noted that the Cogito only works for the thought. It cannot be used in a sense that, I can walk or sleep therefore I exist since I can doubt these actions carried out by the body. The reason why a person cannot doubt itself is because the doubt is in a form of a thought in ones mind, not an action of our body. Descartes discusses that physical objects are more known distinctly through the mind than through the body and explains his reason further in the Wax Argument. The Wax Argument describes how Descartes wanted to show that we come to know things using the intellectual parts of our brain rather than through our senses. Basically, Descartes is trying to prove that we know the mind truly better than anything else, like our bodies and the world outside of the mind. This argument begins by describing the process of change by which solid wax melts until it has changed its phase of matter to form a liquid puddle. Walgreens Corporation s History and Mission Statement Established over a century ago, Walgreens has since grown into a national corporation with over 8,489 stores (Walgreens Corporation, 2013). Today, they are the first largest drugstore chain in the nation before CVS, Rite Aid, and Wal Mart. Walgreens serves more than 6.3 million customers daily and fills 784 million prescriptions every year (Walgreens Corporation, 2013). While a large company, Walgreens is not the low cost leader in the industry and faces serious competition from discounters, who are willing to accept lower margins on prescription drugs because they can make up for lost profit in other categories. Walgreens probably will not match these prices, meaning that Walgreens has chosen not to compete on price in its most important category. Since, Walgreens cannot compete against discounters on price, the company has failed to fully exploit its main advantage over these retailers, its ability to provide convenience to its customers. 2. While the company is increasing the presence of 24 hour locations and drive thru facilities, the interior layout of a Walgreens store does not always reflect its commitment to convenience. For example, Walgreens stores in Salem, Oregon, appear crowded with merchandise, an atmosphere that is contrary to the clean image of fast service that Walgreens would like to portray. There, upon entering a Walgreens store, one encounters aisles of merchandise stacked to the ceiling. The first items evident are seasonal merchandise and novelty goods. Health care items are not readily visible and are located toward the rear of the store. The actual pharmacy may be located in the farthest corner from the door, without distinct design or clear signage (Tran, 2011). The Oxford dictionary defines a hipster as a person who follows the latest styles and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream (Fowler, Fowler and Murray, 1964). Since hipsters are a modern phenomenon, definitions are often broad and contradictory. There also exists little scholarship concerning the subject since their subcultural formation must be analyzed while it is still in formation. The lack of interest in academia contrasts to the immense quantity of opinions regarding the phenomenon made by journalists, bloggers and layman experts (Scheimer, 2013). By this time an interregional trade network had been clearly established and world trade was booming. When China, a prominent trade nation, accepted silver as its currency and would only exchange for it, the importance of silver increased. This new rapid scramble for silver proved to be both beneficial and disastrous. While countries which were lucky geographically in their supply of raw silver could now trade prominently with China, demand created an increase of labor and social unrest. Europe seemed to remain the most neutral in this desperate silver trade, choosing to remain only involved enough to observe. British merchants were not entirely reliant on trade to or from the Asian worlds so merely recorded how China received nothing but silver (Doc. 4) and the Portuguese use this to their good advantage in China . However, England could not remain completely unaffected as scholars such as Charles D Avenant observed. Luxury goods especially spices and silks have become prominent in European culture. While Europe draws from Asia nothing on solid use it has tasted of this luxury (Doc. 8) and it is not advisable for England to pull out of this silver trade. England could afford to remain more objective, but it could not pull out entirely. It had roots planted early on, and it would cause severe social disturbance to tear them up. Yet despite any conjectures drawn from accounts of scholars, merchants, officials and priests it is impossible to know the full extent of the economic and social effects of silver without the voice of the common people. It was the commoners, laborers, slaves, farmers and peasants which bore the full brunt of the trade. Their every day lives relied on day to day paychecks, which mandated how they survived. It is the rise and fall of poverty in the peasantry, the social unrest or benefit of the commoners that would reveal the true effect of silver. The majority of all of ... Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know that if we don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves. This is important because God had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could also die.
