Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Essay
Youth crime is a growing epidemic that affects most teenagers at one point in their life. There is no
question in society to whether or not youths are committing crimes. It has been shown that since 1986
to 1998 violent crime committed by youth jumped approximately 120% (CITE). The most
controversial debate in Canadian history would have to be about the Young Offenders Act (YOA). In
1982, Parliament passed the Young Offenders Act (YOA). Effective since 1984, the Young Offenders
Act replaced the most recent version of the Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA). The Young Offenders Act
s purpose was to shift from a social welfare approach to making youth take responsibility for their
actions. It also addressed concerns that the paternalistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Youth crime is a tough issue, with many differing opinions. Punishment and rehabilitation, one, the
other, or both, all topics of debate within society. If you were to discuss the issues with the parents of a
victim, it would be understandable that their opinions would differ greatly than those of the parents of
the offender. Many people have formed an opinion without an in depth look at the act. Others simply
do not care.
The question that needs to be answered is, does the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada properly
address the victims rights, the rights and needs of the young offender, and does it protect public
safety? That question is hard to answer, as some people think that the Act is a more decent and
humane way to approach young persons in trouble with the law. On the other hand others feel it offers
too much protection to those whom least deserve it the young offenders, and very little to those who
deserve it the victims. The Youth Criminal Justice Act should concentrate on making young offenders
aware that they will be held responsible and accountable for their behaviour.
Today, despite the fact that youth crime rates

Persuasive Speech On Deforestation
Over half of the world s forests have been destroyed in the last 10,000 years. An extensive fire that
destroys a great deal of land or property could be thought to help benefit the economic or
environmental aspects of daily life, but the society is clueless on the harm it is causing. Nearly half of
the Earth s original forest cover has already been lost and each year an additional 32 million acres are
destroyed. Our world is facing the greatest extinction crisis since the fall of the dinosaurs, 65 million
years ago. The future of many of Earth s plants and animals will be determined within the next few
decades. Hopefully, it comes as no great surprise to you that deforestation is a major problem in many
areas of the world, both in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deforestation occurs primarily as a result of agriculture, fuel use and production, firewood, charcoal,
timber harvesting, pasture clearing for livestock animals, and expanding human settlements. When
deforestation happens to a country that you live in it can have a huge impact, These deforested areas
almost always end up as wastelands via the processes of soil erosion and desertification, if they aren t
reforested. Many of the areas of the world that were deforested thousands of years ago remain as
severely degraded wastelands or deserts today. Currently, the world s annual rate of deforestation is
estimated to be about 13.7 million hectares a year, which is roughly equal to the total land of Greece.
Half of the areas deforested gets reforested to some degree, but these new growth forests don t
function in the same ways, support the same biodiversity, nor do they provide the many benefits that
old growth forests do cause many societies to eventually collapse if they cannot come up with a better

Pedro Almodovar s Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) and Live...
Pedro Almodovar, in his recent films Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) (2002) and
Live Flesh (Carne Trémula) (1997), has brought a thoroughly modern interpretation to the genre of
melodrama. These fresh illustrations of human love, loneliness, frustration and individuality explore
the complexity of human interaction and interestingly, in Talk to Her, the interactions of the sentient in
relation to the insentient. Nothing is simple, Alicia s ballet teacher muses in Talk to Her, this statement
accurately captures the essential Pedro
Almodovar style.
Both of the works selected for analysis in this essay are melodramas. The word
melodrama originated from the Greek root which directly translated means
music drama . These films do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No coldness, no bluish tones I told Javier (the director of photography for Talk to Her). It s like their
[the characters ] home. I didn t want the spectator to be faced with an atmosphere of pain or illness.
What I wanted to show was the everyday life of some people who live there.
The use of colour is also instrumental in Pedro Almodovar s pop art style. The incorporation of
classical Catholic themed oil paintings in Elena s bedroom and also the images Lydia s sister is
arranging in the hotel before the bull fight are examples of the pop art movement. Almodovar was a
significant influence on the emerging culture of Spanish youth since the 1980 s. Almodovar s
exploration of issues such as the drug culture in a non traditional manner is evident in both movies.
The narrative does not directly comment on Elena s addiction to freebase cocaine and gratuitously
Sancho asks David if he has any cocaine because coke dries your tears . The film s ideology seems to
condone David s cannabis smoking as a healthier alternative to Sancho s drug of choice, namely,
alcohol. Marco can be seen to be smoking a joint while he looks on at Benigno,
Alicia and Alicia s ballet teacher on their balcony, in Talk to Her too.
This is significant in that it is an example of the liberalisation of Spanish culture since the death of
Franco and the emergence of Spain from that dictatorial, repressive regime. The exploration of the

Santiago s Pride
Pride is defined as a feeling of satisfaction derived from one s own achievements. Pride can push
people to prove themselves. Pride can help people when they face new challenges. Pride is a powerful
motivator in people s lives. If one does not have pride, how will one be motivated to keep going?
However, too much pride can lead to an arrogant attitude. The Greeks referred to this type of feeling
as hubris. Hubris, excessive pride, is often the cause of someone s downfall in literature. Pride needs
to be combined with humility in order for it to be positive in the ideal life. In The Old Man and the
Sea, Santiago is pushed by pride to persevere through his challenges. Ernest Hemingway illustrates
how an old man can have a great sense of pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boy came back to Santiago with supper given to him by the owner, Martin, and Santiago replies, I
must give him something more than the belly meat then. He is very thoughtful for us (20).
Hemingway thus reveals the Old Man is not too proud to accept help from others. The Old Man
clearly has relatable human qualities to the everyday reader. Although Santiago takes much pride, he
humbles himself when the boy utters, And the best fisherman is you ... Santiago replies, No. I know
others better (23). The author thus demonstrates Santiago is humble about his abilities. He still
acknowledges that there is better fisherman than he is, illustrating he has control of any potential
hubris. After killing the fish, Santiago thinks to himself about the boy; The boy keeps me alive.... I
must not deceive myself too much (106). Hemingway thus emphasizes Santiago is not too proud to
admit he is dependent on the boy. The Old Man knows he is dependent on the boy and that he would
most likely not be alive if it were not for him. He is clearly not ungrateful. After the sharks destroy the
Marlin, Santiago notes, Nothing . . . I went out too far (120). Hemingway thus implies Santiago views
the Marlin as a worthy opponent. Hemingway also reveals that Santiago is aware that his pride led to
his downfall. Santiago knew he went too far out, but he still made the irrational decision because he
wanted to have pride after

One of the most common basic differences is that the patron client organization is more often
associated with breaking the law while the bureaucratic type of organization strictly abides by the law
and tries to enforce it (Albanese, 2010). In the patron client model, there is always one individual at
the top, leading the whole organization who is commonly referred to as the boss . This type of
organization is characterized by a kind of structure where it resembles a family that is neatly and
tightly bound together by loyalty and trust to each other (McIllwain, 2005). The boss , patron in this
case, main role is to aid the client in either economic or security in terms of protection that is repaid by
the same client in terms of duties as per the orders of the patron. This type of network encompasses
different types of individuals in its networks includes members of the local community, members of
the judicial system, public officials and law enforcement officials. The patron controls a particular
geographic region that is referred to as his territory where no one else is expected to trespass. The boss
has a counselor and confidant for advice and an underboss that enforces and carries out his orders

Sony Computer Entertainment Vs Connectix Corporation Summary
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), is a result of the Ninth
Circuit Court of applications which governed the replication of a copyrighted BIOS software through
the progress of an emulator software does not institute copyright violation but is protected by
reasonable usage.
The court also ruled that Sony s PlayStation symbol had not been tarnished by Connectix Crop s sale
of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station.
Context of the case
Connectix begins the progress of the Virtual Game Station (VGS) in July 1998 as a Macintosh
software application that matches Sony s current Play Station video games console s hardware and
firmware.
This would make it likely for VGS operators to play games advanced for the play station on
Macintosh hardware, with strategies to announce a Windows PC well matched variety at a future day.
Connectix s development approach was constructed upon inverse engineering the play Station s BIOS
firmware, primary by means of the uncharged BIOS to progress imitation for the hardware, and then
by evolving a BIOS of their own using the unique firmware as an aid for fixing.
Throughout the progress work, Connectix communicated Sony, demanding technical support for
finishing the VGS, but this appeal was finally decayed in September 1998.
The Video Game Station growth touched conclusion in December 1998, with the software actuality

Paper Towns Metaphors
In a society where young adults are consumed by superficial appearances, the desire to understand
others and conceptualize life is neglected. In the novel, Paper Towns, John Green challenges young
adults to consider different perspectives through relatable characters and their experiences. At the
beginning of the novel, Margo and Quentin do not recognize each other s existence. Then, one night,
Margo enters Q s room through the window, and they go on an epic adventure of revenge. The next
morning, Margo is gone. Q begins searching for Margo once he notices the first clue she left, a poster
in her window. During the search, Q discovers Margo s love for Walt Whitman and her introversion.
When Q finds Margo, he finally understands how the view he had of her is incorrect and that he can
only truly see her now. Throughout Q s journey, the reader is introduced to metaphors that help Q ...

At the end of the novel, when Margo and Q are examining metaphors, Q contemplates that maybe
everyone starts out as a watertight vessel (302). Then, he explains that as people leave us, or don t love
us, or don t get us, or we don t get them, and we lose and fail and hurt one another . . . the vessel starts
to crack open in places, and that once the vessel cracks open, the end becomes inevitable (302). This
explains how vessels crack and that once it is cracked, there is no repair. Q continues by explaining
how there is all this time between when the cracks start to open and when we finally fall apart. And it
s only in that time that we can see one another, because we see out of ourselves through our cracks
and into others through theirs (302). This explanation shows us that only when people are capable of
exposing themselves, can others truly understand them, and they can understand others. This
perception shows how we can only gain true understanding through hardships and false

High School Differences
How Differences in Schooling Affect Students The high school education system will be different
wherever one lives, but that should not affect how much a student learns. High schools not only need
to prepare us for college, but also for work outside of college. This is not the case in many places,
however. When taking a look at the American and German high school education systems there are
many differences and the outcomes are different because of those differences. The German high
school education system is better because of how it is set up and the American high school education
system is worse because it is not taken as seriously. In Germany, their education is taken very
seriously and is very different from what we know in America. After they graduate from elementary
school at age 10, German students have three schools to pick from which is considered their high
school. At that time, they must select from three different secondary school curricula, and their future
educational and career decisions are based on that election (Peak and Matthes 1). The three different
schools they have to choose from are Gymnasium (academic high school), Realschule (secondary
school), and Hauptschule (intermediate school). In Germany the Gymnasium school is considered to
be our high school. Students attend from ages 10 to 16, and upon graduation, are qualified for a three
year apprenticeship in a skilled labor craft (Peak and Matthes 2). After they attend one of those

harder to be an individual, so with Apple you can rise above the norm and be unique. Recently, this
unique corporation has taken the media by storm, with their new line of products. Right along side

The commercial was a parody of the book 1984. The commercial showed a young athletic woman
wearing bright red jogging shorts running toward a giant screen. The screen portrayed a man dictating
to hundreds of skinheads, and the girl ran up to the screen and broke it with a baseball bat. The
symbolism in this commercial was the main reason it was a pivotal portrayal of Apple in the media.
The symbolism of the giant man on the screen represented IBM, and the thousands of skinheads were
mindless consumers. Apple was the young athletic woman who broke the screen and freed the
thousands of skinheads from a life of monotony with PCs. This new commercial broke all the rules,
and the reaction has been, in a word, unprecedented, as stated by Steve Hayden in the San Francisco
Chronicle, 1984. This commercial was one of the most significant pieces of advertisement that Apple
could show, because it explained their philosophy in one fell swoop. This commercial informed the
public about what Apple really stood for rebellion. The people Apple markets toward are the creative
individuals. One of the former presidents for Apple products, Jean Gassee, was quoted April 18, 1996
in Rolling Stone saying, We must give our user pure sex. It s like a rendezvous in the back seat of an
automobile with a beautiful girl. One s experience should be better than the greatest orgasm you could

Research Paper On The Divine Comedy
Divine Comedy The Divine Comedy is a lengthy poem composed by a considerable Italian poet that
worked primarily in the late middle ages. Composed by Dante Alighieri, who was a political thinker,
writer, and poet who is remembered mostly for composing The Divine Comedy, which made a lasting
impact on theology, as well as literature. Many consider Dante a genius when it came to literature, a
wise man full of knowledge. He was born in Florence, Italy and lived from 1265 to 1321. Many
believe Dante studied tuscan poetry while in school but it is not known where and when he went to
school. He is remembered as a very influential writer who used Italian language rather than Latin. He
was born into a family that was supposedly involved deeply with the Florentine political scene which
was a large influence on him and his ideals which is evident throughout his works. Dante s mother had
died when Dante was very young. At just 12 years old, Dante had his marriage arranged with a woman
who was a family friend named Gemma Donati. The couple got married sometime around 1285, but
there was just one problem. Dante had proceeded to fall in love with another woman Beatrice
Portinari, who would become a huge significance to his life and especially his work, she was very
influential to him. Dante later went on and composed The New Life (La Vita Nuovo) using Beatrice as
an ideal. After the unexpected death of Beatrice, Dante became quite intrigued in studying philosophy

My Pain For Comfort
Pain For Comfort
I ve gone from house to house trying to find one to call home. I should call where i live home but
home shouldn t make you want to run. Walking into the door of my house feels so forlorn and cold.
Nothing there is ever happy and all the love has left along with the good memories. My only comfort
now comes from the solitude of my room and the deafening sound of my music, desperately trying to
drown out the shouts of anger and hate.
No I m not saying my life is completely awful, I do have good moments but not as often as I do bad
ones. A plethora amount of problems started with my mom and somehow moved its way towards my
dad and then my siblings. Everything isn t how it should be and where there should be love there is
hate and it just makes everything even more stressful when trying to focus on work and education. My
dad is the type of person everyone wants to know and love but behind the walls of the house he takes
all the anger in him and releases it like a tormented dragon on the knights he calls his family. My mom
is a people pleaser but that gets in the way a lot because she tries to please so much that all the stress
she gets from the day she holds back comes back home with her and wrecks everything. My house is a
constant alarm clock going off that has no snooze button. There is never a silent moment. There is
never peace.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and the Dark Shadow Within Essay
The horror genre is synonymous with images of terror, violence and human carnage; the mere mention
of horror movies evokes physical and psychological torture. As remarked by noted author Stephen
King the mythic horror movie...has a dirty job to do. It deliberately appeals to all that is worst in us. It
is morbidity unchained, our most base instincts let free, our nastiest fantasies realized. (King, 786). At
manageable intervals, we choose to live these horrific events vicariously through the characters in
horror movies and books as a means of safely experiencing the what if . The horror genre allows us to

Horror employs this archetype, which is similar to Freud s description of the battle between the ego
and the id, the struggle between the normal and abnormal. The shadow archetype represents the inner
person we try to keep under control and hidden as much as possible, in contrast to our outward,
everyday personality (Fordham, 1966, p.49). Solomon suggests that the monster in film and literature
is our surrogate, a representative of our baser instincts, our uncontrollable impulses toward evil
(Solomon 795). This theme is evident in Drayton Sawyer s character in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.
One side of Drayton is the small businessman, enjoying the win of the local chili cook off; he may be
a little abrasive but he is socially adept. Drayton comments No secret, it s the meat. Don t skimp on
the meat. I ve got a real good eye for prime meat. Runs in the family. Must a missed peppercorn.
(Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2). His explanation provides a window into both sides of his personality,
the inner cannibal and the exterior businessman. He hides his dark shadow, the side that supports his
cannibalistic family traditions and serves human meat to unsuspecting customers. By identifying with
the monster, be it a werewolf or maniac with a chainsaw, the viewer learns to reconcile the
dichotomous personality within each of us; the

The Buckminster Fullerene Is The Third Allotropic Form Of...
In general, the Buckminster Fullerene is the third allotropic form of Carbon, with the other two being
Graphite and Diamond. The more proper term used to describe these compounds in regards to Carbon
compounds would be Graphenes. (22)
The Buckminster Fullerene was first discovered in 1985 by scientists Harold Kroto, Rickard Smalley
and Robert Curl. (1) They were able to discover that when Graphite is vaporized by a laser, a variety
of large Carbon cluster compounds were formed, the C60 compound or Buckminster Fullerene, being
the most abundant. (1) The other Fullerenes found were C28 C32, C44 and C78. The C60 compound
was named after Buckminster Fuller, as he was responsible for the creation of many geodesic domes,

This involves setting up an arc between two graphite electrodes and using a stream of inert gas, such
as Helium. (1) This causes the Carbon to form vapors, which then condenses into the C60 Fullerene as
well as additional types of Fullerenes. Source: S. Chuanchen, G. Haibin, F. Dufei, Extraction of C60
cluster ion beam, Review of Scientific Instruments, 65, 1405 1407 (1994).
Due to the cage like structure formed during the synthesis of the Fullerene, the compound is able to
trap small molecules of the inert gas within the structure. The general formula used to represent a gas
enclosed within the structure of the Fullerene is nX@C60, where n is the number of trapped atoms and
X represents the trapped gas. (1) The interior diameter of the C60 compound is 7.09Ã…, which is large
enough to trap a variety of the noble gases including Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton and Xenon. (##)
In addition to trapping gases, the Fullerenes are also able to hold metal ions within the structure. Since
the C60 compounds have a high electron affinity, they can readily accept electrons from alkali metals.
The compounds that are formed from the enclosure of metal ions are known as Endohedral
Metallofullerenes. (1) Examples of alkali metals that can be placed inside the C60 compound include
Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium and Caesium. For the alkali metals, the formula would resemble,
M3C60. (1) The process of putting the alkali metals inside the C60

Malcolm X was a Symbol of the Civil Rights Movement
Misunderstood
Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.
Malcolm X
The 1920 s, or the Roaring Twenties , was a time in American history described as the Wild West .
Prohibition brought controversy and anarchy to the once civilized American society, with mobs and
gangs at the peak of their power with leaders such as Al Capone supplying alcohol and guns to the
public. This was also a time of heightened racial segregation, with boundaries being set such as only
white bathrooms and schools. Malcolm (X) Little was born in this time period, on the 19th of May,
1925, in Northeast Omaha (The Humanities of Malcolm X). Growing up in humble surroundings, with
the constant battle with segregation and hate, defined Malcolm as a person and as a leader. With
racism growing, Malcolm was influenced by civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., who
came to be the symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Racism became infamous in the 50 s because of
the rising popularity of a cult called the KKK, which was known to lynch and torture African
Americans, with no justice being brought upon the group (Malcolm X). All of this bigotry that
surrounded Malcolm is what made him have such a passion to become an educated scholar in the
ideas of racial segregation and hate. Though Malcolm X was a controversial figure in the eyes of the
public, his influence on American society did not go unnoticed, as Times Magazine named Malcolm X

Essay on The Process of Mummification
The Process of Mummification The earliest ancient Egyptians buried their dead in small pits in the
desert. The heat and dryness of the sand dehydrated the bodies quickly, creating lifelike and natural
mummies
Later, the ancient Egyptians began burying their dead in coffins to protect them from wild animals in
the desert. However, they realized that bodies placed in coffins decayed when they were not exposed
to the hot, dry sand of the desert.
Over many centuries, the ancient Egyptians developed a method of preserving bodies so they would
remain lifelike.Today we call this process mummification.

Then it is covered with oils to help the skin stay elastic.
The dehydrated internal organs are wrapped in linen and returned to the body. The body is stuffed with
dry materials such as sawdust, leaves and linen so that it looks lifelike. Often the mummy would be
over filled with sawdust and it would explode.
Some times the embalmers made mistakes and a body was badly mummified. It would turn dark and
brittle and limbs would drop off. If the person had a missing limb due to bad mummification or
because they had previously had a limb missing wooden ones would be used as substitutes.
Finally the body is covered again with good smelling oils. It is now ready to be wrapped in linen
In the past, when the internal organs were removed from a body they were placed in hollow canopic
jars.
Over many years the embalming practices changed and embalmers began returning internal organs to
bodies after the organs had been dried in natron. However, solid wood or stone canopic jars were still

TUTORIAL 1
1) Identify aspects of competition within the meaning of competition law.
The Harper Review defined competition as the process by which rival businesses strive to maximise
their profits by developing and offering desirable goods and services to consumers on the most
favourable terms . The purpose of competition policy is therefore to protect, enhance and extend
competitive conduct. Competition Law aims to combat certain anti competitive practices that interfere
with the efficiency of markets to the detriment of both consumers and other suppliers.
Competition law is not intended to protect competitors per se (Harper Review); rather, as per Joseph
Schumpeter, competition facilitates creative destruction as old and inefficient economic ... Show more

The Parmalat Australia website suggests that its brand Pauls is the most consumed branded milk in
Australia. Parmalat is a significant producer of UHT milk; however, the majority of this is exported to
the Asia Pacific. UHT milk accounts for less than 10% of total milk sales in Australia. Fonterra and
the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat, thereby constraining its market
power. Lion Pty Ltd is the industry leader with a 32% market share, however this covers several
brands and also includes private label contracts with Woolworths. The fact that the major suppliers
operate nation wide and would be present in each market (as discussed above), significantly limits
Parmalat s ability to exploit its market power. It is difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive
dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment of its competitors, given that they have similar resources
and would be capable of rebuffing these tactics. Nevertheless, if Parmalat colludes with another
supplier, then the combined market share of the firms would be substantial, thus creating scope for
cartel behaviour that is disadvantageous to farmers (primary

Safe Port Act Of 2006
SAFE Port Act of 2006 Terrorism has been one of the major concerns of the entire world; however,
the incident of 9/11 entirely changed the perception of governments towards the issue of terrorism. In
this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards dealing
with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United States is the only country that
had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people have lost their
lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of billions of dollars in
the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and intelligence services. Despite of all
these efforts, the U.S. has always felt the threat of terrorist activities; based on this fact, the
government and legislature of the United States of America has enacted many acts of Congress to
ensure the security of the residents, capital, and assets of the country. Out of various strategies to make
United States a safer country, the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act in
considered the most imperative yet debated topic among the politicians as well as the public of the
U.S.
Introduction of Safe Port Act of 2006 The basic purpose of the Act was to control all the ongoing
activities of every single port of United States to ensure the safety of United States from the threats of
terrorist activities. President Bush signed the Act on 13 October 2006.

than that. The surface is not the only issue Josh has with his life. It is also about the troubles of
commitment and being in a relationship for anyone in their 20 s. Josh is a 20 something year old guy
who seems to be meeting the wrong women in his life. Either that, or the wrong women keep meeting
him and therefore results in a failure of a relationship or the beginning of one. However, it could also
be his terrible job, apartment and confidence in general or everything combined.

It also symbolizes the blood that the martyrs have shed in the history of the rastas. The yellow
represents the wealth of the homeland. Green represents the beauty and vegetation of Ethiopia, their
promised land. Another characteristic of the Rasta s belief is the use of Ganja for religious purposes.
Its use is written in the bible in scriptures saying He causeth the grass for the cattle and herb for the
services of man (Psalms 104:14), . . . thou shalt eat the herb of the field (Genesis 3:18) and . . . eat
every herb of the land (Exodus 10:12). The use of this herb is very extensive among Rastas not only
for relaxation, but for spiritual and medical purposes. On the other hand, Islam originated in the
seventh century when the message was revealed to the holy prophet Muhammad. Although, the
revelations were passed down from Allah ( The God ) to angel Gabriel, Muhammad manifested the
knowledge. This message was thus preserved in the Holy Quran. The Quran is perceived as the word
of God, the supreme Allah. Islam means submission or self surrender of one s own pleasure for the
pleasure of God. Muslims believe that you must not only surrender to God but the laws of the world
also. Muslims believe that every person is born pure and we have a choice to either follow good or

Sigmund Freud s Lord Of The Flies
It is very unlikely a famous theory about psychoanalysis and a book about young boys trapped on an
island would have many connections. But after reading Lord of the Flies and learning about Sigmund
Freud s theory of psychoanalysis, you can see that the book and the theory share many connections.
The main concept of Freud s theory is that there are three components of the human mind, the Id, Ego,
and Superego; and in Lord of the Flies three influential characters all seem to represent these three
parts. Whether Golding did this on purpose or not, I do not know, but I certainly believe these three
characters easily line up with Freud s three components of the mind. The first component of the mind
is the id. According to Sigmund Freud it is present as soon as a human is born and is the driving force
of our actions until the ego begins to develop. The id is the personality component made up of
unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires (Cherry). All the id
wants is for your basic needs to be fulfilled, and it does not matter how they get fulfilled because the
id has no sense of right or wrong. It also wants them to be fulfilled as soon as possible, which is
known as the pleasure principle. Because of this the id will cause you to react immediately to a
situation and not consider the implications or consequences to those actions. The character I believe
symbolizes this would be Jack. He constantly acts on a whim and puts his desire in

The Islam-Judaism Clash of Civilizations Essay
On the streets of Jerusalem, in the rubble of Ramallah, in synagogues, in mosques, in the hearts and
minds of millions in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and the remainder of Israel, Israelis and
Palestinians are locked in a clash of civilizations. In his masterful work, The Clash of Civilizations,
Samuel L. Huntington outlines a theory which approaches international politics on the scale of
civilizations. However, he circumvents discussion about Israel. Huntington cautiously describes Israel
as a non Western (Huntington 90) country, but identifies the Palestinian Israeli conflict as one along a
fault line between civilizations (267). Though he chooses to avoid the issue, Huntington s theory
provides a groundwork for analyzing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Huntington s thought parallels the observations of Mordecai Kaplan, a famous American Jew. In 1934,
Kaplan wrote Judaism as a Civilization in which he described Jewish identity withering away among
second generation Jewish immigrants in the United States as they were assimilated into American
culture. Kaplan wrote this book fourteen years before the creation of Israel. I would argue that,
contrary to Huntington s opinion, the relatively recent addition Israel has revitalized the Jewish sense
of common identity. Kaplan s observations have become dated. With Israel as its core state, Judaism
has a legitimate claim to civilization status.
As it stands, Islam poses a clear and present danger to Judaism. Huntington paints a gloomy picture
for Israel: Wherever one looks along the perimeter of Islam, Muslims have problems living peaceably
with their neighbors (256). Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, all Muslim countries, surround Israel.
Huntington claims that Islam s borders are bloody, and so are its innards (258), taking into account
both the history of internal and external wars within and between Muslim countries. Israel has
engaged in official war with Muslim countries in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, and 1982. It has also been a
target of guerilla warfare and terrorism, especially during the first

Kirk Cousins had the highest completion percentage in NFL history at home, completing 75 percent of
his passes at home. Much of the Redskins recent success falls on the shoulders of Cousins, who was
named NFC offensive player of the month for December. Jordan Reed has come on strong of late;
since week 10 no other tight end scored more touchdowns, caught more passes receptions, or had
more yards than Reed.
As I mentioned earlier, the Packers come into this game struggling. All season, Aaron Rodgers hasn t
been able to create chemistry with his receiving core. The Packers receivers drop 4.1 percent of
Rodgers passes. The running game hasn t helped either. Whether it s Eddie Lacy or James Starks in
the backfield, the Packers offense hasn t been able to sustain a consistent running game. One week
they look great, the next they look terrible.
All signs point to a Redskins win, but am I really going to pick Kirk Cousins and the Washington
Redskins in a playoff game over two time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers? Am I crazy enough to do that?
Nope, I m not. As flawed as the Packers are, it s hard for me to believe that Aaron Rodgers is going to
lose a playoff game to a 9 7 Redskins team led by Kirk Cousins. Ask yourself this, as well as the
Redskins have played would it really shock you if they came out and laid an egg?

Karl Marx And Marxism
Karl Marx s ideology was established to show what would happen if the social classes struggled with
each other. Vladimir Lenin however, was more practical in that his ideology carried the changes
needed to fit into the country itself. Marx anticipated that his concept would come to carry out a more
advanced capitalist state because is where he thought the revolution he talked about would take place.
Still, Leninism took place in a country that was not as advanced as Mr. Marx would have imagined.
During this time Russia was not economically advanced and had many farmers. Lenin felt he had to

In fact, the philosophical basis of the communist movements and regimes of the 20th century, ranging
from the Soviet Union to Latin America to China and North Korea, is largely based on Marxism.
However, it s important to note that while Marxism supports a form of socialism, not all forms of
socialism are Marxist in nature.
Lenin, developed a Marxist political economy, enhanced by capitalism, imperialism, and of the
general crisis of capitalism. It popularized the idea of the socialist revolution, the concept of the
possibility of the victory of socialism first in a few countries or even in one country alone. The
significance of Marx s theory of liberty is that the rank and file must be directly involved in the

Humility In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
Humility: is it congenital or developed? Is it being shy or selfless? Many people interpret the concept
of humility in different ways: regardless, there is no definition more correct over the other. The
dictionary defines the term humility as, modest or low view of one s own importance, which could be
interpreted as insecure or shy. I, however, believe that humility is in fact a process in which one
develops into a state where they give up their desires to place another person before themselves.
Humility isn t about the lack of pride or confidence; it is merely acknowledging that oneself is not
more important than another. The play, A Raisin in the Sun, illustrates humility exceptionally well
throughout several main characters. For instance, Beneatha had her heart set on attending medical
school with the use of her father s insurance money. When her brother practically threw away the
money, Beneatha became extremely egocentric in regard to what she was going to do without the
money. Beneatha s good friend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, in A Raisin in the Sun, Walter Lee Younger was profoundly selfish throughout his entire life.
After throwing away the money, he began to make a deal that would only benefit himself and disgrace
his family. Like Walter, one often makes decisions that only have a good outcome for themselves: yet,
there is always a possibility to become modest. At the end of the play, Walter alters his decision for the
sake of his family. Humility works in a way that is constantly changing. Some believe that you can
only be humble if your parents are humble, or if you ve experienced it all your life. This is false:
anyone can be humble. Similar to the concept previously stated, humility develops with experience. It
takes a specific circumstance to show one that they are not always the center of attention and thus

The Insanity Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe, was especially antisocial, and some would say insane. His insanity was solely
prompted by events in his life. On December 8, 1811, both of Poe s parents died from the dreadful
disease, tuberculosis. Poe s foster mother, with whom he was close with, dies in Richmond on
February 28, 1829 from a long sickness. Upon the date Aug 1, 1831, Poes older brother Henry dies of
either tuberculosis or cholera at the age of 27. Poe s wife Virginia died of tuberculosis on Jan 30, 1847
(Poe Museum). Poe has been so despondent while the illness consumed the final months of Virginia s
life that friends thought he was going insane. The loss of his wife extended Poes dependency on
alcohol. Some of Poe s beliefs were viewed as ludicrous, but truly were coherent. Poe expresses these
beliefs throughout his stories. These beliefs include, alcohol can end and destroy one s life, there s
nothing to stop death, and that true happiness is not possible as long as moral evil lurks within the
darkness.
Edgar Allan Poe believed that alcohol could end and destroy one s life. He conveyed this belief
throughout Hop Frog, and Cask of Amontillado. In Poe s story Hop Frog, a self righteous king coerced
a jester to drink knowing he was especially not fond of alcohol. The king himself was intoxicated, and
had performed his actions solely for his amusement and attention from his consol of ministers. Hop

Analyzing Epicurus s Letter To Menoeceus
In the Letter to to Menoeceus, Epicurus explains his principle doctrines and prescripts on how one can
live the best life possible. His letter argues two distinct beliefs to reconsider. The first argument
suggests that we do not need to fear the gods as the fear of punishment from the gods will deteriorate
one s overall happiness. The second argument suggests that the fear of death is an irrational fear as
one will no longer feel sensations after death. In this paper, I will defend these two arguments made by
Epicurus and show that the removal of these beliefs will allow an individual to live a more fulfilling
life with happiness and less fear and anxiety.

He recommends that we should rid this irrational fear in order to maximize our pleasure and minimize
our pain. In his letter, he writes all things good and bad are experienced through sensation, but
sensation ceases at death. (Epicurus, Letter to Menoeceus,1) What Epicurus means is that these
sensations are only experienced by those that are alive and will cease once our bodies are dispersed
back into tiny particles of atoms. What solidifies this argument is Epicurus s belief of how we
experience the sensory world. Epicurus believes that the soul is our bodies access to sense perceptions
and experiences. In order to communicate with the material body, the soul must also be material and
consist of atoms similar to the body. Thus, when our bodies decay and break down, the soul will also
disperse back into the environment. With this understanding, it is logical to think that there is no point
of fearing death as the dispersal of the soul after death will cease any form of sensation. Once the
removal of sensations and experiences, nothing can create any pain or pleasure nor make the situation
better or worse. This suggests that death cannot harm and cause pain to an individual when it finally
arrives. Epicurus continues his argument with the line when we exist, death is not present, and when
death is present, we do not exist. (Epicurus,

The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss II supports the glamorous world of ballroom dancing. The
costumes of the ballroom dancers used in the movie are cartoonish in the way they look, where girls

Sitcom Humor Analysis
3.3. Manner The maxim of manner is flouted when the speaker uses ambiguous language or does not
talk properly and understandably (Hu 2012: 1188). Sitcom humour makes use of lexical and
referential ambiguity to flout this maxim for humour (Wu n.d.: 66/67). In the episode, the characters
flout this maxim by using words that others do not know or by using words and phrases which are
lexically ambiguous. When characters use words that others do not know, it either ridicules the
speaker (because they are unable to communicate with others) or the listener (because they have a lack

was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative language can be
found throughout the text.
The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the storm
was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself to one
area of the house and snuggled in her husband s coat to keep the storm from surrounding her. At the
end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband. So she
ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the beginning was
her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally.
The author s frightening story, The Storm has all the expected things that a good scary story should
have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is lots of

What Is North American History Prior The 16th Century
History is often a speculation of reality, but architecture and ruins from the past are a great tool in
uncovering archaic cultures and lifestyles. North American history prior the 16th century is limited
and often misconceived. Contrary to popular belief, North America was inhabited eons prior to the
arrival of Europeans by individuals who aptly used the landscape surrounding them and maximized
the benefits they reaped. During this time they were able to achieve great advances in not only in their
food but also in their infrastructure. Leading up to the sixteenth century, North America was not a
barren landscape unfamiliar to the human touch, but, in fact, the land of well developed societies
exemplified through their extensive feats infrastructure.

2.2 Explain How To Manage A Site Drainage
2.1 How to manage the site drainage and its importance.
Site drainage management is aim to safeguard the house inhabitants and protect the house from
several damage cause by surface water and both internal and external inappropriate moisture (Master
builders, 2009).
Site drainage management is a very important part of the design of footing system. It is because the
site drainage could influence the success of the footing system, the maintenance of the site drainage
influencing the economic life of the building and the site drainage plan is required to be documented

There are several soil results might happen after the tree removal in this case, from limited influence
to significant damage. As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this reclaimed land is
H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause less damage to the soil
because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian building authority, 2015).
However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the underground water system in clay soil
land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry due to the different surrounding agricultural
situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after the tree removal and there are no other trees or
shrubs around the site, too much accumulated water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to
be more reactive. On the other hand, if there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra
moisture will be absorbed by these trees and the site soil is going to be dry. Thus, the classification of
the soil will be changed and it lead to change the footing construction system as well. All in all, tree
conditions should be considered before the removal and a more careful site filling and cleaning jobs
should be

Holzer American Conceptual Artist
Holzer is a conceptual artist, her theme is generally about social issues and feminism. Her style is the
use of but not limited to flashing electronic LED sign sculptures to get her message across to the
viewers. These signs, display carefully composed yet fleeting phrases that act as verbal meditations on
power, trauma, knowledge, and hope ( Jenny Holzer American Conceptual Artist ). She also used
other text on buildings and even billboards to express herself as well. Her style in my opinion is very
self expressive in the way she delivers her artwork, it really gets viewers attention and based on her
content, individuals may be taken back by how she present her art. For example, she used bright lights
to capture the viewers attention. The

A Rose Is Still A Rhodes (Rose)
A Rhodes (rose) is still a Rhodes (rose) Introduction Like the rose that grew from concrete, life is
hard. Never give up! You ll make it to the sunshine of success. Never give up! J. Lewis A s you look at
the rose that grew from concrete, what do you see? Do you see the damaged petals? Or are you in awe
to see the rose that actually grew from concrete? The truth is we never know what molded an
individual into the person that is presented to the outside world. Just like the rose that grew from
concrete, we view people from their outer being rather than from their soul. My tenacious behavior is
much like that rose. That rose that grew from concrete willed itself to survive and bloom despite the
laws of nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This course has broadened my world view and piqued my interest of subfields in philosophy. For an
example in A Lesson Before Dying, and Midwives, different philosophical phenomena s emerged
from the pages of each novel philosophy of the mind, religion, and science. Philosophy of the mind:
Both novels were reflective of human emotions, such as desire, passion and feelings. Philosophy of
religion: Lesson Before Dying, religious symbolism was used throughout the novel. Grant and Pastor
Ambrose were continually battling over religious beliefs and spirituality. Philosophy of science:
Midwives, the trial of Sybil traditionalists vs. modernists. This course has helped me think outside the
box and dissect a work of art, and identify underlying questions that provides me a better
understanding of what the writer is trying to portray to their audience. In conclusion the rose in
concrete metaphor represents the hardship of life, but with perseverance anything is possible. Hello,

Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless?
As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not
having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn t
suitable as a living environment. These students don t have the available funds to be able to pay for
somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper
nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college
students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so

vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today s society when people think about a

Raft of the Medusa Essay
Raft of the Medusa Theodore Gericault,Raft of the Medusa, 1818 1819 [oil on canvas]491X716cm
The Raft of the Medusa was created by Theodore Gericault in the years 1818 and 1819 during the
French Romantic period. This oil painting, which stands at a massive 491x716cm, was created to
capture the tragedy of the Medusa. This essay discusses what the Raft of the Medusa was, the reasons
behind why Theodore Gericault made this painting and the political impacts it had at the time it was
made. The Medusa was a french frigate that set sail in 1816 from Rochefort heading to Senegalese.
Harris (2011) states that Gericault read an account by survivors about the tragedy of the shipwreck and
was intrigued to learn more. He learnt that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the time when the French salon would have been looking for a Rococo style painting of important
figures and royalty to hang in their gallery they accepted Gericault s work as it was an extreme change
from the typical types of paintings they hung. It represented the nameless souls who fought to stay
alive upon the raft. Jeffaris (2005) exclaims This event was a political scandal and Gericault s painting
an exposé a 17th Century tabloid headline! . They knew it would create a stir and grasp attention, and
it has become iconic for the the way in witch it broke traditions. This event had a huge effect publicly
because of the fact that the lower ranking people were left behind to die while the wealthier and more
important people escaped on life rafts. This is quite metaphorical of the political situation in France in
this period (after revolution) as the wealthy got wealthier and the poor were left to starve and die. Its
ironic that this painting of such a horrible event was such a symbol of hope for the lower class of
France at the time. It showed the strength of the weak and poor, it showed that the lower class had the
strength to survive even after the wealthy had taken everything and left them to die. Giving hope to
the lower tier of society that anyone can make it regardless of their status. From the description of
Medusa (n.d.) the raft of the medusa was Intended as a political statement about the disorderly state of
the French

  • 2. Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Essay Youth crime is a growing epidemic that affects most teenagers at one point in their life. There is no question in society to whether or not youths are committing crimes. It has been shown that since 1986 to 1998 violent crime committed by youth jumped approximately 120% (CITE). The most controversial debate in Canadian history would have to be about the Young Offenders Act (YOA). In 1982, Parliament passed the Young Offenders Act (YOA). Effective since 1984, the Young Offenders Act replaced the most recent version of the Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA). The Young Offenders Act s purpose was to shift from a social welfare approach to making youth take responsibility for their actions. It also addressed concerns that the paternalistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Youth crime is a tough issue, with many differing opinions. Punishment and rehabilitation, one, the other, or both, all topics of debate within society. If you were to discuss the issues with the parents of a victim, it would be understandable that their opinions would differ greatly than those of the parents of the offender. Many people have formed an opinion without an in depth look at the act. Others simply do not care. The question that needs to be answered is, does the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada properly address the victims rights, the rights and needs of the young offender, and does it protect public safety? That question is hard to answer, as some people think that the Act is a more decent and humane way to approach young persons in trouble with the law. On the other hand others feel it offers too much protection to those whom least deserve it the young offenders, and very little to those who deserve it the victims. The Youth Criminal Justice Act should concentrate on making young offenders aware that they will be held responsible and accountable for their behaviour. Today, despite the fact that youth crime rates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An extensive fire that destroys a great deal of land or property could be thought to help benefit the economic or environmental aspects of daily life, but the society is clueless on the harm it is causing. Nearly half of the Earth s original forest cover has already been lost and each year an additional 32 million acres are destroyed. Our world is facing the greatest extinction crisis since the fall of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. The future of many of Earth s plants and animals will be determined within the next few decades. Deforestation occurs primarily as a result of agriculture, fuel use and production, firewood, charcoal, timber harvesting, pasture clearing for livestock animals, and expanding human settlements. When deforestation happens to a country that you live in it can have a huge impact, These deforested areas almost always end up as wastelands via the processes of soil erosion and desertification, if they aren t reforested. Many of the areas of the world that were deforested thousands of years ago remain as severely degraded wastelands or deserts today. Currently, the world s annual rate of deforestation is estimated to be about 13.7 million hectares a year, which is roughly equal to the total land of Greece. Half of the areas deforested gets reforested to some degree, but these new growth forests don t function in the same ways, support the same biodiversity, nor do they provide the many benefits that old growth forests do cause many societies to eventually collapse if they cannot come up with a better ... Pedro Almodovar, in his recent films Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) (2002) and Live Flesh (Carne Trémula) (1997), has brought a thoroughly modern interpretation to the genre of melodrama. These fresh illustrations of human love, loneliness, frustration and individuality explore the complexity of human interaction and interestingly, in Talk to Her, the interactions of the sentient in relation to the insentient. Nothing is simple, Alicia s ballet teacher muses in Talk to Her, this statement accurately captures the essential Pedro Almodovar style. I didn t want the spectator to be faced with an atmosphere of pain or illness. What I wanted to show was the everyday life of some people who live there. The use of colour is also instrumental in Pedro Almodovar s pop art style. The incorporation of classical Catholic themed oil paintings in Elena s bedroom and also the images Lydia s sister is arranging in the hotel before the bull fight are examples of the pop art movement. Almodovar was a significant influence on the emerging culture of Spanish youth since the 1980 s. Almodovar s exploration of issues such as the drug culture in a non traditional manner is evident in both movies. The narrative does not directly comment on Elena s addiction to freebase cocaine and gratuitously Sancho asks David if he has any cocaine because coke dries your tears . The film s ideology seems to condone David s cannabis smoking as a healthier alternative to Sancho s drug of choice, namely, alcohol. Marco can be seen to be smoking a joint while he looks on at Benigno, Alicia and Alicia s ballet teacher on their balcony, in Talk to Her too. This is significant in that it is an example of the liberalisation of Spanish culture since the death of Franco and the emergence of Spain from that dictatorial, repressive regime. • 5. Santiago s Pride Pride is defined as a feeling of satisfaction derived from one s own achievements. Pride can push people to prove themselves. Pride can help people when they face new challenges. Pride is a powerful motivator in people s lives. If one does not have pride, how will one be motivated to keep going? However, too much pride can lead to an arrogant attitude. The Greeks referred to this type of feeling as hubris. Hubris, excessive pride, is often the cause of someone s downfall in literature. Pride needs to be combined with humility in order for it to be positive in the ideal life. In The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago is pushed by pride to persevere through his challenges. Ernest Hemingway illustrates how an old man can have a great sense of pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Santiago takes much pride, he humbles himself when the boy utters, And the best fisherman is you ... Santiago replies, No. I know others better (23). The author thus demonstrates Santiago is humble about his abilities. He still acknowledges that there is better fisherman than he is, illustrating he has control of any potential hubris. After killing the fish, Santiago thinks to himself about the boy; The boy keeps me alive.... I must not deceive myself too much (106). Hemingway thus emphasizes Santiago is not too proud to admit he is dependent on the boy. The Old Man knows he is dependent on the boy and that he would most likely not be alive if it were not for him. He is clearly not ungrateful. After the sharks destroy the Marlin, Santiago notes, Nothing . . . I went out too far (120). Hemingway thus implies Santiago views the Marlin as a worthy opponent. Hemingway also reveals that Santiago is aware that his pride led to his downfall. The court also ruled that Sony s PlayStation symbol had not been tarnished by Connectix Crop s sale of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station. Context of the case Connectix begins the progress of the Virtual Game Station (VGS) in July 1998 as a Macintosh software application that matches Sony s current Play Station video games console s hardware and firmware. This would make it likely for VGS operators to play games advanced for the play station on Macintosh hardware, with strategies to announce a Windows PC well matched variety at a future day. Connectix s development approach was constructed upon inverse engineering the play Station s BIOS firmware, primary by means of the uncharged BIOS to progress imitation for the hardware, and then by evolving a BIOS of their own using the unique firmware as an aid for fixing. Throughout the progress work, Connectix communicated Sony, demanding technical support for finishing the VGS, but this appeal was finally decayed in September 1998. • 11. High School Differences How Differences in Schooling Affect Students The high school education system will be different wherever one lives, but that should not affect how much a student learns. High schools not only need to prepare us for college, but also for work outside of college. This is not the case in many places, however. When taking a look at the American and German high school education systems there are many differences and the outcomes are different because of those differences. The German high school education system is better because of how it is set up and the American high school education system is worse because it is not taken as seriously. In Germany, their education is taken very seriously and is very different from what we know in America. After they graduate from elementary school at age 10, German students have three schools to pick from which is considered their high school. At that time, they must select from three different secondary school curricula, and their future educational and career decisions are based on that election (Peak and Matthes 1). The three different schools they have to choose from are Gymnasium (academic high school), Realschule (secondary school), and Hauptschule (intermediate school). In Germany the Gymnasium school is considered to be our high school. Students attend from ages 10 to 16, and upon graduation, are qualified for a three year apprenticeship in a skilled labor craft (Peak and Matthes 2). After they attend one of those ... The commercial showed a young athletic woman wearing bright red jogging shorts running toward a giant screen. The screen portrayed a man dictating to hundreds of skinheads, and the girl ran up to the screen and broke it with a baseball bat. The symbolism in this commercial was the main reason it was a pivotal portrayal of Apple in the media. The symbolism of the giant man on the screen represented IBM, and the thousands of skinheads were mindless consumers. Apple was the young athletic woman who broke the screen and freed the thousands of skinheads from a life of monotony with PCs. This new commercial broke all the rules, and the reaction has been, in a word, unprecedented, as stated by Steve Hayden in the San Francisco Chronicle, 1984. This commercial was one of the most significant pieces of advertisement that Apple could show, because it explained their philosophy in one fell swoop. Composed by Dante Alighieri, who was a political thinker, writer, and poet who is remembered mostly for composing The Divine Comedy, which made a lasting impact on theology, as well as literature. Many consider Dante a genius when it came to literature, a wise man full of knowledge. He was born in Florence, Italy and lived from 1265 to 1321. Many believe Dante studied tuscan poetry while in school but it is not known where and when he went to school. He is remembered as a very influential writer who used Italian language rather than Latin. He was born into a family that was supposedly involved deeply with the Florentine political scene which was a large influence on him and his ideals which is evident throughout his works. Dante s mother had died when Dante was very young. At just 12 years old, Dante had his marriage arranged with a woman who was a family friend named Gemma Donati. The couple got married sometime around 1285, but there was just one problem. Dante had proceeded to fall in love with another woman Beatrice Portinari, who would become a huge significance to his life and especially his work, she was very influential to him. Dante later went on and composed The New Life (La Vita Nuovo) using Beatrice as an ideal. It is morbidity unchained, our most base instincts let free, our nastiest fantasies realized. (King, 786). At manageable intervals, we choose to live these horrific events vicariously through the characters in horror movies and books as a means of safely experiencing the what if . Horror employs this archetype, which is similar to Freud s description of the battle between the ego and the id, the struggle between the normal and abnormal. The shadow archetype represents the inner person we try to keep under control and hidden as much as possible, in contrast to our outward, everyday personality (Fordham, 1966, p.49). Solomon suggests that the monster in film and literature is our surrogate, a representative of our baser instincts, our uncontrollable impulses toward evil (Solomon 795). This theme is evident in Drayton Sawyer s character in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. One side of Drayton is the small businessman, enjoying the win of the local chili cook off; he may be a little abrasive but he is socially adept. Drayton comments No secret, it s the meat. The more proper term used to describe these compounds in regards to Carbon compounds would be Graphenes. (22) The Buckminster Fullerene was first discovered in 1985 by scientists Harold Kroto, Rickard Smalley and Robert Curl. (1) They were able to discover that when Graphite is vaporized by a laser, a variety of large Carbon cluster compounds were formed, the C60 compound or Buckminster Fullerene, being the most abundant. Malcolm X The 1920 s, or the Roaring Twenties , was a time in American history described as the Wild West . Prohibition brought controversy and anarchy to the once civilized American society, with mobs and gangs at the peak of their power with leaders such as Al Capone supplying alcohol and guns to the public. This was also a time of heightened racial segregation, with boundaries being set such as only white bathrooms and schools. Malcolm (X) Little was born in this time period, on the 19th of May, 1925, in Northeast Omaha (The Humanities of Malcolm X). Growing up in humble surroundings, with the constant battle with segregation and hate, defined Malcolm as a person and as a leader. With racism growing, Malcolm was influenced by civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., who came to be the symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Racism became infamous in the 50 s because of the rising popularity of a cult called the KKK, which was known to lynch and torture African Americans, with no justice being brought upon the group (Malcolm X). All of this bigotry that surrounded Malcolm is what made him have such a passion to become an educated scholar in the ideas of racial segregation and hate. The heat and dryness of the sand dehydrated the bodies quickly, creating lifelike and natural mummies Later, the ancient Egyptians began burying their dead in coffins to protect them from wild animals in the desert. However, they realized that bodies placed in coffins decayed when they were not exposed to the hot, dry sand of the desert. Over many centuries, the ancient Egyptians developed a method of preserving bodies so they would remain lifelike.Today we call this process mummification. First the embalmers ... Some times the embalmers made mistakes and a body was badly mummified. It would turn dark and brittle and limbs would drop off. If the person had a missing limb due to bad mummification or because they had previously had a limb missing wooden ones would be used as substitutes. Finally the body is covered again with good smelling oils. It is now ready to be wrapped in linen In the past, when the internal organs were removed from a body they were placed in hollow canopic jars. Over many years the embalming practices changed and embalmers began returning internal organs to bodies after the organs had been dried in natron. However, solid wood or stone canopic jars were still buried with the mummy to symbolically protect the internal organs. Fonterra and the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat, thereby constraining its market power. It is difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment of its competitors, given that they have similar resources and would be capable of rebuffing these tactics. In this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards dealing with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United States is the only country that had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people have lost their lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of billions of dollars in the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and intelligence services. But after reading Lord of the Flies and learning about Sigmund Freud s theory of psychoanalysis, you can see that the book and the theory share many connections. The main concept of Freud s theory is that there are three components of the human mind, the Id, Ego, and Superego; and in Lord of the Flies three influential characters all seem to represent these three parts. Whether Golding did this on purpose or not, I do not know, but I certainly believe these three characters easily line up with Freud s three components of the mind. The first component of the mind is the id. According to Sigmund Freud it is present as soon as a human is born and is the driving force of our actions until the ego begins to develop. The id is the personality component made up of unconscious psychic energy that works to satisfy basic urges, needs, and desires (Cherry). All the id wants is for your basic needs to be fulfilled, and it does not matter how they get fulfilled because the id has no sense of right or wrong. It also wants them to be fulfilled as soon as possible, which is known as the pleasure principle. Because of this the id will cause you to react immediately to a situation and not consider the implications or consequences to those actions. The character I believe symbolizes this would be Jack. In his masterful work, The Clash of Civilizations, Samuel L. Huntington outlines a theory which approaches international politics on the scale of civilizations. However, he circumvents discussion about Israel. I would argue that, contrary to Huntington s opinion, the relatively recent addition Israel has revitalized the Jewish sense of common identity. Kaplan s observations have become dated. With Israel as its core state, Judaism has a legitimate claim to civilization status. As it stands, Islam poses a clear and present danger to Judaism. Huntington paints a gloomy picture for Israel: Wherever one looks along the perimeter of Islam, Muslims have problems living peaceably with their neighbors (256). • 31. Humility In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun Humility: is it congenital or developed? Is it being shy or selfless? Many people interpret the concept of humility in different ways: regardless, there is no definition more correct over the other. The dictionary defines the term humility as, modest or low view of one s own importance, which could be interpreted as insecure or shy. I, however, believe that humility is in fact a process in which one develops into a state where they give up their desires to place another person before themselves. Humility isn t about the lack of pride or confidence; it is merely acknowledging that oneself is not more important than another. The play, A Raisin in the Sun, illustrates humility exceptionally well throughout several main characters. For instance, Beneatha had her heart set on attending medical school with the use of her father s insurance money. When her brother practically threw away the money, Beneatha became extremely egocentric in regard to what she was going to do without the money. Beneatha s good friend ... At the end of the play, Walter alters his decision for the sake of his family. Humility works in a way that is constantly changing. Some believe that you can only be humble if your parents are humble, or if you ve experienced it all your life. This is false: anyone can be humble. He recommends that we should rid this irrational fear in order to maximize our pleasure and minimize our pain. (Epicurus, Letter to Menoeceus,1) What Epicurus means is that these sensations are only experienced by those that are alive and will cease once our bodies are dispersed back into tiny particles of atoms. What solidifies this argument is Epicurus s belief of how we experience the sensory world. Epicurus believes that the soul is our bodies access to sense perceptions and experiences. In order to communicate with the material body, the soul must also be material and consist of atoms similar to the body. Thus, when our bodies decay and break down, the soul will also disperse back into the environment. With this understanding, it is logical to think that there is no point of fearing death as the dispersal of the soul after death will cease any form of sensation. Once the removal of sensations and experiences, nothing can create any pain or pleasure nor make the situation better or worse. The Storm is a combination of Mother Nature, Janet s emotions, and her heartbreaking dilemmas. The eerie mood is revealed throughout the story. Figurative language helps the reader bring the story to life in his/ her mind. The author s use of irony is devolved through Janet s changed perception of the storm. Her husband is not there; there are dead plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also thinks that she sees a face in the window. As she enters the damp, musty, ill lit cellar you can feel the suspense building. Malmar continues to use these types of images up to the conclusion of the story. The author uses a lot of figurative language throughout the story. The forceful wind is compared to a dog shaking a rat between its teeth. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman was in the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen with freight was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative language can be found throughout the text. The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the storm was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself to one area of the house and snuggled in her husband s coat to keep the storm from surrounding her. At the end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband. So she ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the beginning was her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally. The author s frightening story, The Storm has all the expected things that a good scary story should have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is lots of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this reclaimed land is H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause less damage to the soil because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian building authority, 2015). However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the underground water system in clay soil land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry due to the different surrounding agricultural situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after the tree removal and there are no other trees or shrubs around the site, too much accumulated water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to be more reactive. On the other hand, if there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra moisture will be absorbed by these trees and the site soil is going to be dry. Thus, the classification of the soil will be changed and it lead to change the footing construction system as well. All in all, tree conditions should be considered before the removal and a more careful site filling and cleaning jobs should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is quite metaphorical of the political situation in France in this period (after revolution) as the wealthy got wealthier and the poor were left to starve and die. Its ironic that this painting of such a horrible event was such a symbol of hope for the lower class of France at the time. It showed the strength of the weak and poor, it showed that the lower class had the strength to survive even after the wealthy had taken everything and left them to die.
