Persuasive Essay On The Confederate Statue
The violence continues as statues keep coming down in America currently. My goal today is to
explain why the confederate statue should stay or should be taken down everywhere in the
United States. There is three Main points that I m going to states and defend in this Essay and
tell you why I believe in them and there purposes. First why we need to keep them and not take
them down. Second they will help educated the future people for the better. Last of all I think
that we should keep the statues all the way and this is why. Why should we keep the statues you
may ask, well there is no right or wrong answer for this topic but I will do my best to defend my
point and belief of why these statues should not be torn down. The biggest reason I don t want
these statues torn down is that it s not just a big piece of metal sitting there or a regular statue, these
are statues that have history behind them over the years on when the south fought the north for a
big turn for American history. People think they are racist or wrong, but really they show where
we are from and what we are about. This Battle goes back to a massive shooting in 2015, when
Dylan Roof shot nine people in a dominant black church in Charleston, SC. Thus starting of the
Statues being taken down across America. How will this help the future for the better If someone
that doesn t know what s going to history wise will most likely go with the majority and the
majority isn t the best bet all the time so it is

Similarities Between Freak The Mighty And Freak The Mighty
Freak the Mighty and Killers of the Dream are two very different novels one being fiction and the
latter being nonfiction but they share a common ground by depicting the struggles of certain
marginalized groups. Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick tells the story of Max, a self
proclaimed butthead , and Kevin, a boy with Morquio Syndrome. On the other hand, Killers of the
Dream by Lillian Smith focuses on why and how the white South treated black peopleduring the
late 1800s and early 1900s. While reading these two novels, the reader gets a sense of how these
specific marginalized groups responded to the prejudice that alienates them from society. Both
novels show examples of the disenfranchised creating their own supportive... Show more content on

One example is the lady insurrectionists of the South, specifically the white women, who spoke out
against sexism and some discrimination of black people. The chapter titled The Women states,
They [the women] said calmly that they were not afraid of being raped... they did not need the
chivalry of a lynching to protect them and did not want it. Not only that, they continued, but they
would personally do everything in their power to keep any Negro [sic] from being lynched... (145).
Furthermore, these lady insurrectionists continued to progress, such as going against southern
tradition, creating an Association of Southern Women for the prevention of Lynching (146), and
breaking bread with fellow men of other color (147). Both the white women and the women of
color, despite their major differences and resentment, decided that in order to move forward in
social justice, they would first have to eat meals together and come together in order to work
together. Unfortunately, there are two sides to every coin. The poor whites of the South may have
built a community among themselves, but unlike the communities built in Freak the Mighty and
the lady insurrectionists and black women, they did not reach out to help other prejudiced groups.
The South s poor whites were not as disadvantaged as the previously mentioned groups, for they
were fed their privileges by the rich white Southern man. Rather

Cartons Short Story
There were two choices: mop the kitchen, or dump out two thousand cartons of spoiled
macadamia nut milk. Sadly we didn t get the first choice. The boys decided to mop the kitchen,
which they probably didn t know how to do. We got to work, two girls opening boxes, two more
opening cartons, and another girl and myself were emptying the cartons into the sink. It wasn t
really that bad, only a faint smell of something bad, I thought we got the easy job. That is until
we kept working. Unloading box after box the smell grew stronger. It smelled worse than a
barnyard by the time we reached the bottom rack. We stopped for a minute to clean up, the
cartons were all broken and the garbage bags were leaking milk. Our shoes were dirty and soaked

I walked outside took a deep breath and ran back in. I tore the box open gagging as I did and
opened the first carton. I was already out of breath. My eyes were watering and my mouth went
dry, I quickly dumped out the first, then he second, the third, fourth, fifth, and all of them up to
the tenth. My body was shaking and I feared I might pass out from the awful smell, but I
continued, I only had two more cartons. They were horrible. The bottoms were all green and
flimsy, dripping milk all over the ground as I rushed them to the sink. The job was done, until I
turned around and saw the mess we left. I hauled the giant trash bags over my shoulder and
threw them up into the old dumpster in the back of the building. By the time I was coming back
in all the girls in my group had finished their break and came back in to help, but I was all done. I
mopped up the ground and the room lightened. Everyone seemed pretty happy that they didn t
have to clean up, I was pretty happy that I did clean up, I did the best job. Our day was done and
we were dismissed from our worksite. As we climbed into the van, and I closed the heavy door, I
thought so much, but most of all I thought about how our first day at work was and what the week
had to

The Spleen
The spleen is the largest organ in the lymphatic system. In a unique way, the spleen combines both
the innate and adaptive immune responses as it contains all the components necessary for both
functions. Its macrophages, T killer cells and granulocytes mount the immediate responses against
infection, thereby constituting the п¬Ѓrst line of defense(innate immunity)(Zygmunt and Veldhoen
2011). While, its B cells, plasma cells and T helper cells are responsible for adaptive
immunity(Andoniou, Andrews and Degli‐Esposti 2006). In addition to its immunological
capacity of antibodyformation and T cells and B cells proliferation, it is responsible for blood
filtration and destruction of old RBCs and platelets. Moreover, in certain circumstances, the spleen
acts as a hematopoietic organ(Gartner 2015). In the innate immune system, the splenic lymphocytes
produce cytokines and rapidly exert cytotoxic activity against viral infection. While, in the... Show

It is a natural, complex and multi factorial process. The geriatric studies reported hyposplenism in
elderly persons. However, it is unclear whether the observed alterations in splenic function are
physiologically (the process of age itself) or pathologically (a consequence of age related
diseases)?. This question is of great clinical concern. It is believed that hyposplenism predisposes to
infections, autoimmune disorders and thrombosis(Pawelec et al. 2002, Effros, Cai and Linton 2003).
As the population ages, many diseases including, viral, autoimmune and even cancer will become
more prevalent. It is expected that, there will be a surge in older diseased patients, which will
challenge both healthcare institutions and healthcare professionals. Moreover, many conditions
that affect the elderly will occur in combination, thereby complicating care for any specific
condition (Falsey et al. 2005, Galloway et al. 2011, Berger et al.

Donald Trump s Impeachment Essay
Since the recent impeachment of former President Donald Trump and dismissal of his entire

The Floridan Aquifer
The Floridan Aquifer
Water is an endless cycle that repeats itself but doesn t necessarily remain drinkable. Rain feeds
vegetation, evaporation occurs, and then returns to rivers, streams, and lakes and may seep into
rocks and caves underground through limestone and into aquifers. It may take many years before
it reaches the surface. Water is a valuable resource that people tend to mishandle and take for
granted. Explorers have dove into the paths underground to trace paths of water that flow deep
under homes, streets, cities, and pastures only to surface a dirty and contaminated pond. Inside
these deep paths explorers have found tires, oil barrels and chemical containers that most people
are unaware of. Over 8 billion gallons of water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homeowners that water grass may require large amounts of fertilizer that contribute to high levels
of nitrates in the aquifer, a major source of drinking water. Water containing nitrates contribute to
algae growth and can endanger plants and wildlife in the springs. Lawns with landscaping with
non native plants may also require daily watering and frequent pesticides to keep them healthy
and disease free. Nearly half of all water withdrawn for our supply is used only to water lawns and
landscaping. Population increase in Florida has led to more to transforming rural areas and
uninhabited land into housing, shopping centers, and buildings. Pavement and roads prevent
rainwater absorption into the aquifer and increase run off of chemicals and other waste. Agriculture
also requires chemicals to kill insects and thus absorbed into the ground into our drinking water.
Dairy farms produce a lot of animal waste along with the pesticides and chemicals used to maintain
the livestock and irrigation that also enter our supply of drinking water. BMP, or best management
practices, include water conservation. Humans have a major impact on water contamination and
should use caution so that our water is preserves. Contribution efforts on our part are reducing the
water usage for lawn care and fertilizers, indoor water

Gaming Communities And The Gaming Community
Title: Gaming communities Name: Subject Name: Instructor s Name: Date: Gaming community is
a type of community whose members have a common interest. Gaming community is contrary to
social communities where members may exhibit different interests. Over time, computer games
have grown contributing greatly to the growth of online gaming communities. In this regard, these
gaming communities may be divided into two; game specific community and general gaming
community (Ahmed, 2010). Game specific communities mainly focus on a particular single game.
Everything in this community is specific to that particular single game. Therefore, discussions in
these forums tend to be more specific and related to a particular game. On the other hand, general
gaming community encompasses various games in one forum. This type of the gaming community
tends to attract many members who can then engage on a general discussion on various games. In
this kind of communities, it is also common to find demo games presented before the real game is
played. With time passing on, the number of gaming community members is increasing throughout
the world (Herald, 2014). According to Victorian Casino and Gaming Authority (1997), this gaming
community operates on a number of ways. In every gaming community, there are three basic
features of a gaming community within which it derives its method of operation. They include
chats, forums and profiles. Just like any other software product. Before individuals

Advantages Of Montessori Teaching Method
What is the best way to teach children? This is a question that people have been asking since they
began teaching. There are a plethora of teaching methods that have been tried and used throughout
history. Each method claims to be the best, but can they be supported through a Christian world
view? The Montessori teaching method teaches children to be independent and teach themselves.
While large or whole group instruction feeds on the child s sheep like nature in following what
their peers are doing and teaches every student the same lesson at the same time. Montessori and
large group instruction are two teaching methods that are proven to work and can be trusted and
used with a Christian perspective. The Montessori teaching method that has been around since
1907. Dr. Maria Montessori was the first woman to earn a physician s degree in Italy. After
graduating she taught a class of fifty students and developed her own way of teaching. She
believed that children were born with absorbent minds and were fully capable of self directed
learning. Montessori developed the framework for a prepared educational environment in which
children, empowered with the freedom to choose how they would spend their time in school, would
seek out opportunities to learn on their own (5 Alternative Teaching Methods). Montessori
classrooms are made of quite, uncluttered environments, and are filled with several games and
activities that cater to self directed learning. Most of the learning

William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying and in Virginia Woolf’s...
William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying and in Virginia Woolf s A Mark on the Wall Subjective
Narratives in Modernist Texts
Like many other modernist texts, William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying employs many unreliable
narrators to reveal the progression of the novel. One of the most interesting of these narrators is the
youngest Bundren child, Vardaman. Like the rest of his family, Vardaman is mentally unstable, but
his condition is magnified due to this lack of understanding of life and death. Because he doesn t
grasp this basic concept, Vardaman s attempts to understand his mother s death are some of the
most compelling aspect of the novel. Over the course of the book, Vardaman attempts to rationalize
his mother s death through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then reasons that he, or Peabody, is the one who has done this to Addieand retaliates: He kilt
her. He kilt her (Faulkner, 54). Like the other Bundren narrators of this novel, Vardaman often uses
the word it in his narratives instead of fully enumerating his intent. This passage is no exception;
especially when Vardaman is describing Peabody leaving Addie s room.
This confusion with presence and being is continued in Vardaman s second narrative where he tries
to associate Addie s death with other deaths he has experienced in the past of rabbits and possums:
I thought it was her, but it was not. It was not my mother. She went away when the other one laid
down in her bed and drew the quilt up. She went away. Did she go as far as town? She went
further than town. Did all those rabbits and possums go further than town? God made the rabbits
and possums...Why must He make a different place for them to go if she is just like the rabbit.
(Faulkner, 66)
This passage shows that Vardaman has never learned about death, and simply lied to when things
died they went to town. These lies only perpetuate his irrational logic regarding Addie s death. As
this particular narrative progresses, Vardaman determines that Addie is not a rabbit or a possum
because she is in the coffin (box) and Cash nails the box up, signaling that she is not going to town,

Unit 3 Listening Assignment
Listening Assignment Each day I listen to hundreds of different conversations, songs, and
lectures. While I listen, I have also realized that I encounter a lot of other noise around me.
Listening begins the moment I wake up, and it does not end until the moment I go to sleep.
While doing this listening log, I learned a lot about how I listen and why I listen. The first day
that I really began to pay attention to what I listened to, I found out that I listen to a lot of things
for enjoyment also known as appreciative listening. It all started when I got woke up by
roommate s alarm clock going off to the song It Girl. Now, I do not know if I can completely
consider this appreciative listening because I did not enjoy getting woke up that much, but I do
enjoy that song. At that moment, when the alarm went off, I had no other noisesurrounding me and
this was the only time throughout the day that this occurred. I also found myself listening to music
as I drove to Nora Springs for my field experience class and... Show more content on

Before doing this log, I did not realize how much of this I did every day. Empathic listening
occurred in my days while doing this log when I listen to my roommates talk about if they were
physically hurting from a workout and how they hoped it would get better. These conversations
occurred typically while icing and we would discuss our pains and give each other the support that
we needed at the time. The other times when I caught myself empathic listening was when I was
talking to someone who was stressed out about school. It may just be that they are struggling in one
class but I listened to them because that is what they needed at the time. Again, from doing this log
I learned that empathic listening is crucial and every person needs someone to listen to them
empathically. As the listener you do not always have much input but just being there is typical all

How Did William Shakespeare Impact His Plays
When you think of historical literature figures William Shakespeare is a preferable playwright to
read about. William Shakespeare was allegedly born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford upon Avon,
Warwickshire, England. Church records from Holy Trinity indicate that he was baptized there on
April 26, 1564. His birthday is thought to be the 23rd because baptism usually occurs a few days
after birth.
Young William was born into a family of eight children, him being the third born. Three of the
eight children died during childhood. William s parents were John Shakespeare, a glover and
leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a local landed heiress.
William Shakespeare s next documented event in his lifetime was the marriage to Anne Hathaway
on November 28, 1582. William was 18 at the time and Anne was 25, seven years his senior. There
was some haste in arranging the ceremony, presumably as Anne was three months pregnant. After
his marriage, Shakespeare left few traces in historical records until he appeared on the London
theatrical scene. The late 1580s are known as his lost years because little ... Show more content on

Shakespeare impacted literature dramatically by writing his plot twisting plays and incredible
poems that were surprising to the world around him at that time. He expanded the expectations on
characterization, plot, language and genre with his complex plays. He impacted theater in his time
by expanding the complexity of plays and his plays seemed more realistic than most. Many
believe that Shakespeare did not invent the words he used in his writing, but that he used the
words he heard. His use of language and twisting plots expanded the interest of literature
exceptionally. The ending of Romeo Juliet is a dramatic plot twist because it features both Romeo
and Juliet dying. This is surprising because the story is about the love between two fictional

Leaders And Followers Analysis
The movie clip portrays the conventional way of how the general public views leaders and
followers. As the book talks about that being called a team member or group member is better
than being called a suborinate or follower, the ants in the line were clearerly followers. Not that
followers cannot think for themself, because nearly everyone has someone else they follow, the
ant could not think for himself in going around the leaf. I think that this is the problem with most
followers, they do not want to think for themselfs and want someone like Mr. Soil, a leader, to
guide them. I dont think this is wrong for people to want others to guide them because many
people enjoy being a team member rather than being in charge. The book goes into detail

Mildred Taylor Research Paper
On September 13, 1943, Mildred D. Taylor was born in Jackson Mississippi to Wilbert Lee and
Deletha Marie (Davis) Taylor. She was born in the south but she didn t stay there very long. When
Mildred was born, her father boarded a train to Ohio hoping to find work and establish a home.
Within a week he found a decent job and brought his entire familyto the north, not wanting to
continue to live in a racially divided land. The family ended up moving to Toledo, which was a
newly unified town. Although Mildred did not grow up in the south she came to know it
through the many stories her father told her and the yearly trips the family took to Mississippi.
A majority of the stories in her novels are inspired by the ones her father had told her when she
was younger. When she was a young girl, Mildred Taylor grew up beginning to realize there was

She declares, when families flourish, communities and nations do as well. That is why every
woman, every man, every child, every family, and every nation on this planet does have a stake
in the discussion that takes place here (n. pag.). She begins to conclude her speech with the
unifying structure of family. To create a family, a woman must be present, each of those family
compile to create communities, and communities create nations. She uses this to explain that
women help form the base of all nations and therefore, the equal treatment of women will reflect
prosperously on countries. This supported her argument because it appealed to the diplomats in
the audience that can make changes in their various countries around the world. She brings her
argument to a close with the following remarks, The time is now. We must move beyond

equality for all results in much different changes. She calls for her audience to join forces with

Performance of Mutual Fund of Bangladesh
Mutual Fund Performance in Bangladesh: An Analysis of Monthly Returns
Md. Hashibul Hassan* Tahmina AkhterвЂ
Abstract
Extensive research has evaluated mutual fund performance in different financial markets which led
to mixed results (Soderlind et al., 2000; Korkeamaki and Smythe, 2004); however, very limited
work has been done to evaluate Bangladeshi mutual funds. This paper focused on measuring risk
adjusted performance of 13 closed end mutual funds on the basis of monthly Net Asset Value. For
this purpose methods suggested by Jensen, Treynor and Sharpe are employed. Performance of the
selected funds found superior in compare to benchmark index. Furthermore diversification, market

He suggested that the overall performance of managed portfolios could be broken down into
several components. He argued that the observed return of a fund could be due to ability of fund
managers to pick up the best securities at a given level of risk (their selectivity ability). Some
portion of this return could also arise due to the prediction of general market price movements (their
market timing ability). Fama suggested that return on a portfolio could be subdivided into two
parts. The return for security selection and return for bearing risk. Various finer subdivisions of
both selectivity and risk were also suggested. The model developed by him combined concepts from
modern theories of portfolio selection and capital market equilibrium with those of traditional
concepts of what constitute good portfolio management†. Henriksson and Merton (1981) provide
a theoretical model and Henriksson (1984) provide an empirical test of the timing ability of fund
managers. Motivated by the pioneering work of Henriksson and Merton (1981), Weigel (1991)
found managers had reliable, although not perfect, market timing skills. Several investigations, as
typified by Kon (1983) and Chang and lewellen (1984), concluded that mutual fund managers
generally possess negative market timing skills. Coggin, Fabozzi and Rahman (1993) carried this
analysis further by looking at both the timing and selectivity skills of a group of US

a figure at the end of the empty Ponte Vecchio. It was very unusual that the Ponte
Vecchio was empty, but then today was the day of the foundation of Florenceand everyone was
taking part in the celebrations at the Piazza Duomo. David got his bicycle, as usual, and was
about to ride off when the figure yelled something. It was the boy again. David felt sorry for the
little boy and didn t know what to do with him. He tried communicating with the boy with gestures,
trying to ask him where his parents where. The boy didn t understand him. So David tried to show
the boy through hand hand gestures to follow him and decided to take him home. On the way they
encountered only one person, a small, bald and unfriendly looking guy.
Once they were home David prepared some dinner. When suddenly there was a knock at the door.
David opened the door, not knowing what a mistake that was. He opened the door and got knocked

North Korean Political Prison Camps
The country of North Korea has long been under the watchful eye of not only the United States but
also the United Nations for many years over concerns of it nuclear weapons program but now, they
are being looked at for an entirely different reason. Recent reports about the inhuman treatment of
an estimated 200,000 North Korean citizens in the countries six political prison camps are been
closely looked at. These reports show the mistreatment, starvation, and even unlawful killing of
North Korean citizens from everything from owning a Bible to watching soap operas.
For the past year the United Nations has been conducting an investigation into the allegations of
many recent prisoners that were able to escape the prison camps and the country its self. Park
(2014) states The commission investigated issues regarding the right of food, prison camps, torture,
and inhuman treatment, arbitrary detention, discrimination, freedom of expression, the right to life,
freedom of movement, and enforced disappearances, including abductions of other citizens (para.
6). On February 17, 2014 the United Nations released a 400 page report on its finding during this
investigation. This report included sketches from many of the prisoners depicting the conditions
inside the camps. Corbin (2014) states The UN report castigated the Hermit Kingdom for it ruthless
treatment of people, depicting a brutal nation that does not have any parallel in the contemporary
world (para. 8). This is an

The Book Of Bauqua Summary
The Biography of Baquaqua: An Analysis of the Importance of the Conversion to Christianity in
the Liberation of Baquaqua This historical study will identify the important aspect of liberation
and Christianity conversion that is defined in the Biography of Baquaqua. In Baquaqua s arrival in
New York and, eventually, Boston, it becomes apparent that he receives strong support from
Baptist religious groups that want to liberate him from slavery. The Abolitionist Movement in the
United States provides an example of Baquaqua s conversion to Christianity, which made it
possible for him to become a freeman after many years of being abused as a slave. In many cases,

that freed slaves during the mid 19th century. Baquaqua s story provides evidence of the
important role of the American Free Baptist Movement providing educational, financial, and
transportation assistance to Baquaqua in order to escape the bonds of slavery. The role of Mr.
Jones and R. Mr. Judd provide accurate examples of the influence of the Baptist faith on
Baquaqua, which inspired him to convert to Christianity in Haiti. However, the implicit bias of
Christian influence on Baquaqua may be questionable during his stay in New York and Boston,
yet the more concrete example of R. Mr. Judd s influence on Baquaqua seems to confirm the
conversion process as part of the liberation of Baquaqua from slavery during this time of his life.
In this manner, evidence taken from the primary source of Baquaqua s narrative provides a deeper
understanding of the impact of Christian abolitionist movements in the liberation and freedom of
former slaves during the 19th century. The Biography of Baquaqua defines the important role of
Christian missionary groups and abolitionist organizations that made it possible to combat the
atrocities of slavery through Baquaqua s own experiences as a free slave in New England and in

Visual Analysis Of Hercules
Standing eight feet tall in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a marble statue of what is known as
a youthful Hercules. Sculpted during the Early Imperial period, with several restorations made in
the 17th century, this Roman masterpiece dominates the room with its god like essence. Chiseled
with great detail, Hercules is holding a skinned lion in his left hand while his right hand is gripping
a club behind his back. This colorless statue stands with confidence and empowerment, capturing
the rhytmos of Hercules right after he kills the Nemean beast, transporting the viewer directly to the
scene, while at the same time also demonstrating Hercules emotional essence. Hercules is built as

Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment
For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab
period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was
there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer
as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was
instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer
reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip
from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near
the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling
the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table.
Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident.
During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density
and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the
pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty
trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial
numbers were short of our goal of finishing all of the trials for both turbulent laminar for that day

supreme court history Essay
In 1789, the final draft of the constitution of the United States came into effect. In article three it
calls for quot;[t]he judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and
in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. quot; In the
article it neither says the duties, powers, or any organization of the supreme court. If left this up to
congress and to the justices of the court itself for these details.
The very first bill introduced in the United States Senate was the Judiciary Act of 1789, led by
Connecticut s Oliver Ellsworth. It divided the country in 13 judicial districts. They were further

The early federal courts failed to issue strong opinions or even take on controversial cases. The
Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed
by Congress.
This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed
John Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not
to, Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and
the judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far.
The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the
case of Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its
power to interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by
congress and the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record
34 years, along with several Associate Justices who served for well over 20 years. During his time
on the bench, Marshall succeeded in molding the federal judicial system into what many, as I do,
consider to be today s most powerful branch of government.
Before settling at nine justices in 1869, the number of Supreme Court Justices changed six times. In
its entire history, the Supreme Court has had only 16 Chief Justices, and over 100 Associate

Turing Red Flag By Toby Walsh
Toby Walsh addresses a number of concerns that many will overlook when it comes to
technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). I am sure there will be many
who will be too fascinated by an AI inhibiting human behavior to worry about the consequences.
As some may argue, we re just not at that point yet for many to care. However, as we get closer I
do believe that the Turing Red Flag would benefit society as whole but not for all the reasons
Walsh discusses. First, I agree that self driven vehicles should clearly be identifiable to human
drivers. It could serve for a number of purposes, similar to how student drivers are identifiable on
the road. For instance, seeing a student driver may influence other drivers to be more... Show more

It makes sense considering how we currently do not have anything in place to safeguard us from
issues that may arise in the future. I feel like it s a step in the right direction but it depends on
how deep the law wants to go in regulating the use of AI. The basic concept of the law seems fine,
though. For example, going back to autonomous cars and how they should be identifiable to
human drivers, it should be something subtle like what Walsh said, a distinct license plate. It
definitely should not have a flashing green light placed on top of the vehicle. Imagine a world
of self driving cars all with flashing green lights. It s not only intrusive but it s also very
distracting. If we had AI blatantly impersonating a celebrity, such as commentating the World Cup
as Messi, we wouldn t it periodically inform us that he s a bot because as mentioned earlier, it
would take away from the experience. It might create a new social norm where humans will
themselves pretend to be AI and who knows what issues (if any) that will bring. In addition to
requiring AI to properly introduce themselves, it should also indicate that it s collecting data. Thus,
the basic concepts of the Turing Red Flag law should be sustainable while carrying numerous
benefits and minimal

are curious to see if he succeeds. He also is good at rubbing this business of his to other angels

Summary Of The Poem I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
Nature has multiple definitions, all having the ability to apply to Wordsworth s poem, I wandered
lonely as a cloud. The definitions of nature include nature as an essential quality and characteristics
of something, nature as an inherent force that directs the world, humans, or both, and nature as a
material world, sometimes with people, sometimes without, however the definitions of nature are
not limited to these three. By analyzing I wandered lonely as a cloudby William Wordsworth, all
three definitions apply to the poem, implying that the poem is based upon nature. In Wordsworth s
poem, nature is the main theme that defines the poem.
William Wordsworth s poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud, is about how nature had a direct
impact and connection with the speaker. As the speaker was wandering aimlessly as a cloud (1),
the speaker encountered a field of daffodils adjacent to an beauteous lake, where everything
seemed to be fluttering and dancing in the breeze. (6) The experience that the speaker undergoes
displays what kind of perspective the speaker has. As the speaker describes the view using similes,
continuous as the stars that shine , hyperbole, they [daffodils] stretched in never ending line (9),
and by using vocabulary with positive connotations, such as glee , gay , bliss , the speaker gives the
impression that his perspective towards nature is romantic. Romantic nature is separate from
society, uplifting and restoring, and a cure to the modern issues,

The View On Free Will
Avalon Singer
29 September 2014
Topic 1: What I Believe is the Correct View on Free Will
We are raised to believe that we are the makers of our own destiny. Every decision we make is our
own, and we are free citizens in every sense of the word.
Although this thought is comforting, I do not consider it to be true. I think that free will is an
illusion. The idea of free will is what keeps us sane and motivates us in our lives, but is not what
controls our lives. I presume that our world is ruled by determinism, yet due to the fact that people
believe that they are acting of their own free will they should be held morally responsible for their
actions.
In definition of the term determinism, our past actions and events govern what occurs in the
present. Therefore, our present actions will not only influence but will decide our future actions.
In other words, determinism is the belief that if our past actions or decisions had been different
then the outcome of our future actions would be as well. Philosopher A.J Ayer coincides with
this in his statement: It may be said of the agent that he would have acted otherwise if the causes
of his action had been different, but they being what they were, it seems to follow that he was
bound to act as he did (475). According to Natural laws, the universe is comprised of cause and
effect relationships with each cause having an effect and each effect having a cause. In trying to
declare determinism to be true above free will,

A Student Of A Disadvantaged Elementary School And Co...
As a student of a disadvantaged elementary school and co director and mentor for Project
F.A.M.E. (Fostering the Arts to Motivate Excellence) Summer Camp, I found that that low self
esteem and self degradation accounts for many of the social and academic ills of black and low
income children. My aspiration to teach was first ignited by my desire to expose underprivileged
black children to their African American history and greatness (earlier on in their lives) to dispel
the narrative that black children are biologically inferior. I believe it is fundamental to reverse the
psychological oppression that is often pre ingrained into the minds and spirits of young (especially
African American) children. Expressly, I believe if children can understand and learn about their
predecessors resilient and tenacious spirits, then they are inclined to gain a greater sense of self and
perform better in academic environments. In another light, I yearn for an understanding of
pedagogical strategies that births critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and a culturally aware
people. Arguably, the purpose of educationis comprised of four primary pillars that encourage the
growth of a whole being so that he or she can fruitfully contribute to society; as an illustration,
education seeks to foster the development of intellectual, social, economic, and political capacities.
The school is a prominent growth house for children s guided development and socialization. The

My Favorite Leisure Experiences In My Life
Throughout my life my leisure activities have changed many times. From playing video games;
to sports and hanging out with friends. Out of my many favorite leisure experiences my most
favorite would be hanging out with friends. Being with other people and having fun is one of the
best feelings to me because it takes off all the stress of my life difficulties. It is very important to
reflect on one s past and present leisureexperiences because they reminds of the best and most
fun memorable moments in our lives. We live in a very stressful society where we hardly have
any fun time due to work, school, or just our very busy lives. During stressful times or difficult
times reflecting on those memorable moments has a very positive impact on us. As I have grown
older I have definitely experienced many of the levels of Nash s Paradigm of Free Time.
When I was in middle school I participated in activities that would be classified as acts performed
against society on Nash s Paradigm. At the time I was about 14 years old and did not think
thoroughly about my actions. I used to participate in shoplifting and vandalism as my leisure
activities. Me and my friends would hang out after school and tag the walls around our school
and would go into stores to steal snacks or drinks. At the time I did not realise how irresponsible
and idiotic my actions were. At first when I began to tag it had a bad psychological effect on me
because I would be paranoid I was going to get caught by the cops or someone of authority. The
more I did it the less paranoid I felt but never felt completely safe and always had a negative
psychological effect. Tagging the walls was a way to express how I felt at the time. I felt I had
to represent my crew which i was involved with. Participating in these activities did have a
physical effect because most of the time I did a lot of running. Whenever someone would catch
us we had to run away as fast as we could and it would get us tired. It did make me feel good the
running had a good effect on my body as it slimed me down a bit. This was a very social activity.

Analysis Of The Plastic Pink Flamingo By Jennifer Price
Scattered in lawns throughout the United States, the pink flamingo is an American icon. We all
know, and probably don t love them. But how do people who are living outside of the United
States or who are new to life in the United States view them? Jennifer Price has just the answer. In
her essay The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History , Jennifer Price uses diction, cultural
allusions, and organization to reveal her view of the American Population as superficial,
materialistic, and trivial.
Price begins her essay by explaining the flamingo s rapid appearance in United States culture and
the connotations behind the bird while using diction and cultural allusions to characterize United
States culture as trivial, superficial and materialistic. Price uses a low level of diction in paragraph
one through words like pizzaz and playful . Her informal diction demonstrates her view that United
States culture holds trivial things, like flamingo s, with too much importance. Price continues on to
describe the superficial value of the bird. The plastic flamingo is inscribed...emphatically across
United States lawns, its owners hoping to attach themselves to ideas of wealth. Those who place
flamingo s in their lawn are looking to benefit from the wealthy face value of the bird, they do not
wish to suffer any detriment from the less known irony surrounding the flamingos extinction. It is
only right that this flamingo revolution would be centered in Las Vegas the flamboyant oasis filled
with instant riches... Las Vegas is a city built on money and expensive material things, the same
foundation the ever important flamingo is built on.
Price continues building her portrayal of United States culture as superficial and materialistic with
detailed descriptions of household items. By downsizing from large scale hotels described in her
first two paragraphs to small scale household items in her third paragraph, Price exemplifies the
materialistic ways of United States culture. Americans purchased washing machines, cars, and
kitchen countertops in the various shades of pink. The desire of Americans to own the audacious
color displays their need for material possessions. Price describes the shades of pink available,

The United States Economy As The Global Economy
From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little
fluctuation over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars.
That price has been more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude
oil is now just 48 dollars a barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the
cause for this sudden change and to what effect will this have on the United Stateseconomy as well
as the global economy? There are three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil
prices. These contributors are a low demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is
caused by a lack of economic growth, the increase in The United States oil production, and The
Organization of the PetroleumExporting Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many
of Europe s economically struggling countries the increase in production of oil which in return
yields lower prices has benefitted them. Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this
drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low inflation rate and weak economy has greatly
lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil in one of the most prominent import
continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their prices in order to retain Europe
as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as an export because that would
also mean losing billions of dollars per year.

How Significant Were the Nationalist Leaders in Changing...
How significant were the nationalist leaders in changing the relationship between Great Britain and

Robert Pearce cites the work of outstanding nationalist leaders joining together to oppose the

campaigned for the emancipation of Catholics, uniting them and bringing about political
advancement, his significance is questionable; after 1840 he had failed to bring about repeal. In

Therefore we must consider that there are other aspects such as the Famine that were significant
and contributed to the changing of the Irish British relationship.
On the other hand, it was nationalist leader Parnell who brought about the whole issue of Home
Rule to the forefront of British politics and laid the foundations for a change in British Irish
relations. Parnell s astute ability to manipulate the Irish public allowed him to unite the various
shades of Irish nationalism together and unite them under one movement; the New Departure.
This united movement posed a direct threat and allowed him to exert extreme pressure on the
British government . By 1879 Parnell had become president of the Land League and had forged
and maintained crucial relations with America. The American Irish relations were heavily
responsible for funding the Land League, which was crucial to Parnell s persuading of
Gladstone to pass the Land Acts of 1881 which granted the 3Fs, fair rent, free sale and fixity of

Reasons For The Cross Pollination

The term cross pollination may be used to best describe the sharing of theories, mathematical
computations, algorithms, languages, hardware architecture, system software, applications

poetry. Mathematical works do consist of proofs, just as poems do consist of characters (p. 6).
Proofs are sets of facts that are crucial in explaining theories and concepts. The analogy previously
stated denotes the importance, fundamentalism, and structure of proofs in mathematics. Lehman et
al. (2012) provided several correlations on how proofs factored in various disciplines in their
research:
Computer Science: proofs are used to certify that software and hardware will always behave
correctly, something that no amount of testing can do.
Judicial System: legal truths are decided by a jury based on allowable evidence presented at trial.
Business World: authoritative truths are specified by a trusted person or organization, or maybe just
your boss.
Physics or Biology: scientific truths is confirmed by experiment
Statistics: probable truths are established by statistical analysis of sample data.

Superbugs Informative Speech
Christian Lozada
Dr. Menegatos
HON 101
Informative Speech Manuscript This is Rebecca Lohsen. She was a healthy 17 year old high
school student and swimmer from New Jersey. In 2006, she died from a MRSA infection, and it s
an infection that s really hard to cure because it s caused by a kind of bacteria called a superbug.
(Infectious Diseases Society of America, September 2007, para. 1). It s important to understand
what superbugs are and how they come about because they re a present and ongoing problem, and
everyone here might just be affected by them. I ve long been interested in the problem of superbugs,
and in sharing the information, because it s a threat to public health that I think not many people
know about. So, in the next few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, you may have heard of the woman in Reno this January who died to a nightmare
superbug because the infection could not be cured by every available antibiotic in the United
States (Nevada Public Radio, 17 January 2017, para. 3). On the Infectious Diseases Society of
America website was the story of how a 19 year old college student, Meredith Littlejohn, died to
a superbug after spending time in an intensive care unit. (Infectious Diseases Society of America,
n.d., para. 1 3). These are only two of thousands who die every year. And so clearly our misuse
and overuse of antibiotics have created very serious, negative outcomes. Contributing to these
negative outcomes, it s not just the doctors unnecessarily giving us antibiotics, as I mentioned
before, but it s also the antibiotics in the food we eat. To reduce costs in farms, animals are held in
unhealthy conditions, so in order to keep them healthy, farmers give them antibiotics. In 2010, a
testimony of Dr. Stuart Levy, a professor of biology and medicine, explained how him and his
team concluded that chickens almost immediately showed resistant bacteria after giving them
antibiotics. They also concluded that the resistant bacteria spread easily to the to the workers, to
the other animals, and even to the flies. Keep in mind pretty much all the other animals are fed
antibiotics too, not just chickens (Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, 14 July 2010, para. 5
6). It s widely

The Role Of External Auditors On Public Financial Statements
External auditors play important roles in delivering credibility of public financial statements to
stakeholders outside of the audited firms (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia,
2008). Published financial statements can be used by stakeholders as a basis for evaluating the
financial position of firms, analyzing the performance of management, or making investment
decisions (International Organization of Securities Commissions, 2002). Published financial
statements will also be used by institutions such as rating agencies to decide the worthiness of the
firms, and by banks, to decide the amount of loans that banks are willing to lend to (International
Organization of Securities Commissions, 2002). Thus, the public is significantly influenced by the
examined financial statements by external auditors (International Organization of Securities
Commissions, 2002). For management, they need to make estimates and judgments to write
financial statements, such as choosing among alternative accounting principles by considering the
existing and potential clients base of the firm; Whilst, the auditors are responsible of examining
statements made by management and to express opinion on them (The Institute of Chartered
Accountants in Australia, 2008). Auditors will collect evidence to ensure reasonable assurance that
the disclosures and detailed numbers in the statements are free of material misstatements (Francis
and Krishnan, 1999). In addition, auditors also

Emollient Agents Make Our Skin Smoother Essay
Emollients
Emollients are agents that soften and make the skin smoother. They are also called moisturizers.
Emollients are used for dry skin or eczema. When a moisturizer is applied to skin, it covers the
skin with a protective layer that reduces the amount of water loss in the skin and prevents dryness.
Emollients also prevent the skin form itching and eczema from flaring up.
Are emollients, emulsifiers, and lotions polar or non polar?
Most lotions contain oil or other non polar ingredients. They also contain large quantities of water
which is polar. The oil in the lotion is emulsified so it can be mixed with the water. But, both
ingredients still remain in the lotion which makes it both polar and non polar. Emulsifiers are used

Many people buy lotions thinking that it has special ingredients that will help moisturize their skin,
but in fact water is the widely held ingredient in hand lotions.
Oil: oil is another important ingredient in hand lotions. Some lotions use liquid oils and others use
solid oils or butters. Avocado, coconut, Shea, and olive oils are some of the most popular oils used
in lotions.
Glycerin: it is also known as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the air to the skin and it is also
used as a lubricant to make the lotion smooth.
Citric acid: this is used as a preservative to prevent the other ingredients from spoiling. Citric acid
also helps lower the PH of the lotion and it makes it more suitable for the different skin types.
Other ingredients that are used are scents, color, etc.
How do hand lotions work?
When hand lotion is applied, it creates a barrier on the skin that prevents the oils from escaping and
does not allow any harmful substance to enter the skin that can cause dryness or irritation. It also
blocks water from leaving the skin and attracts water, this helps to maintain moisture in the skin.
The purpose of hand lotions
There are hand creams designed for different purposes. Most people use hand lotions for dry skin,
usually in the winter time. Lotions soften the hand and it looks more visually appealing. Some
people use lotions because they have eczema, and lotion prevents it from flaring up. Others may use

Weakness Of Homelessness
Strength. There are health centers for homeless to aid in not only their health, but their outreach
programs set them up in the right direction. Like in this case study, the center assisted him in
signing up for health insurance and food benefits. Some programs, give homeless the psychological
help.
Weaknesses. Unfortunately, homeless must want to not live on the streets and give up the additions
to recreational and prescription drugs and alcohol. They tend not to because they feel ostracized,
being criminalized and bused from one city to the next.
Opportunities. There are many opportunities for assisting the homeless population. Increasing
community awareness to there are not as privileged and no roof over their head and what they can

California has the most unsheltered homeless population as well. The prevalence of being
homeless is 1 in every 332 people. Riverside county, located in southern California, reported that
there 2,165 homeless. Of those 2,165, only 841 were considered shelter while on the other hand
1,352 were unsheltered. They ran the same test for 2017 and the numbers increased. 2,413 are now
accounted with the number of sheltered decreased to 775 and unsheltered increased to 1,638.
(County of Riverside, 2017)
There are numerous underlying problems as to why people experience homelessness. There is a lot
of misconception of why or how people become homeless. Most people assume that others are
homeless because they cannot maintain a steady line of work. However, 25% of homeless are
employed. They are low end jobs with little pay.
Housing. The scarceness of affordable housing is the ultimate source of people being homeless. For
renters to be able to meet the expense of a two bedroom apartment, they would have to make twice
the national minimum wage. (National Coalition for the Homeless, n.d.)
Employment and Income. Underemployment and low wages are not sufficient to meet even the
minimum requirements for the cost of living and is another cause of homeless. This issue burdens
millions of people whether they are homeless or not. (National Coalition for the Homeless, n.d.)
Health. Many individuals and families are reduced to

Second they will help educated the future people for the better. Last of all I think that we should keep the statues all the way and this is why. Why should we keep the statues you may ask, well there is no right or wrong answer for this topic but I will do my best to defend my point and belief of why these statues should not be torn down. The biggest reason I don t want these statues torn down is that it s not just a big piece of metal sitting there or a regular statue, these are statues that have history behind them over the years on when the south fought the north for a big turn for American history. People think they are racist or wrong, but really they show where we are from and what we are about. This Battle goes back to a massive shooting in 2015, when Dylan Roof shot nine people in a dominant black church in Charleston, SC. Thus starting of the Statues being taken down across America. How will this help the future for the better If someone that doesn t know what s going to history wise will most likely go with the majority and the majority isn t the best bet all the time so it is ... Similarities Between Freak The Mighty And Freak The Mighty Freak the Mighty and Killers of the Dream are two very different novels one being fiction and the latter being nonfiction but they share a common ground by depicting the struggles of certain marginalized groups. Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick tells the story of Max, a self proclaimed butthead , and Kevin, a boy with Morquio Syndrome. On the other hand, Killers of the Dream by Lillian Smith focuses on why and how the white South treated black peopleduring the late 1800s and early 1900s. While reading these two novels, the reader gets a sense of how these specific marginalized groups responded to the prejudice that alienates them from society. One example is the lady insurrectionists of the South, specifically the white women, who spoke out against sexism and some discrimination of black people. The chapter titled The Women states, They [the women] said calmly that they were not afraid of being raped... they did not need the chivalry of a lynching to protect them and did not want it. Not only that, they continued, but they would personally do everything in their power to keep any Negro [sic] from being lynched... (145). Furthermore, these lady insurrectionists continued to progress, such as going against southern tradition, creating an Association of Southern Women for the prevention of Lynching (146), and breaking bread with fellow men of other color (147). Both the white women and the women of color, despite their major differences and resentment, decided that in order to move forward in social justice, they would first have to eat meals together and come together in order to work together. Unfortunately, there are two sides to every coin. The poor whites of the South may have built a community among themselves, but unlike the communities built in Freak the Mighty and the lady insurrectionists and black women, they did not reach out to help other prejudiced groups. The South s poor whites were not as disadvantaged as the previously mentioned groups, for they were fed their privileges by the rich white Southern man. Rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gaming community is contrary to social communities where members may exhibit different interests. Over time, computer games have grown contributing greatly to the growth of online gaming communities. In this regard, these gaming communities may be divided into two; game specific community and general gaming community (Ahmed, 2010). Game specific communities mainly focus on a particular single game. Everything in this community is specific to that particular single game. Therefore, discussions in these forums tend to be more specific and related to a particular game. On the other hand, general gaming community encompasses various games in one forum. This type of the gaming community tends to attract many members who can then engage on a general discussion on various games. In this kind of communities, it is also common to find demo games presented before the real game is played. Like the other Bundren narrators of this novel, Vardaman often uses the word it in his narratives instead of fully enumerating his intent. This passage is no exception; especially when Vardaman is describing Peabody leaving Addie s room. This confusion with presence and being is continued in Vardaman s second narrative where he tries to associate Addie s death with other deaths he has experienced in the past of rabbits and possums: I thought it was her, but it was not. It was not my mother. She went away when the other one laid down in her bed and drew the quilt up. She went away. Did she go as far as town? She went further than town. Did all those rabbits and possums go further than town? God made the rabbits and possums...Why must He make a different place for them to go if she is just like the rabbit. (Faulkner, 66) This passage shows that Vardaman has never learned about death, and simply lied to when things died they went to town. These lies only perpetuate his irrational logic regarding Addie s death. As this particular narrative progresses, Vardaman determines that Addie is not a rabbit or a possum because she is in the coffin (box) and Cash nails the box up, signaling that she is not going to town, ... William Shakespeare was allegedly born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, England. Church records from Holy Trinity indicate that he was baptized there on April 26, 1564. His birthday is thought to be the 23rd because baptism usually occurs a few days after birth. Young William was born into a family of eight children, him being the third born. Three of the eight children died during childhood. William s parents were John Shakespeare, a glover and leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a local landed heiress. William Shakespeare s next documented event in his lifetime was the marriage to Anne Hathaway on November 28, 1582. William was 18 at the time and Anne was 25, seven years his senior. There was some haste in arranging the ceremony, presumably as Anne was three months pregnant. He argued that the observed return of a fund could be due to ability of fund managers to pick up the best securities at a given level of risk (their selectivity ability). Some portion of this return could also arise due to the prediction of general market price movements (their market timing ability). Fama suggested that return on a portfolio could be subdivided into two parts. The return for security selection and return for bearing risk. Various finer subdivisions of both selectivity and risk were also suggested. The model developed by him combined concepts from modern theories of portfolio selection and capital market equilibrium with those of traditional concepts of what constitute good portfolio management†. In Baquaqua s arrival in New York and, eventually, Boston, it becomes apparent that he receives strong support from Baptist religious groups that want to liberate him from slavery. The Abolitionist Movement in the United States provides an example of Baquaqua s conversion to Christianity, which made it possible for him to become a freeman after many years of being abused as a slave. Baquaqua s story provides evidence of the important role of the American Free Baptist Movement providing educational, financial, and transportation assistance to Baquaqua in order to escape the bonds of slavery. The role of Mr. Jones and R. Mr. Judd provide accurate examples of the influence of the Baptist faith on Baquaqua, which inspired him to convert to Christianity in Haiti. However, the implicit bias of Christian influence on Baquaqua may be questionable during his stay in New York and Boston, yet the more concrete example of R. Mr. Judd s influence on Baquaqua seems to confirm the conversion process as part of the liberation of Baquaqua from slavery during this time of his life. In this manner, evidence taken from the primary source of Baquaqua s narrative provides a deeper understanding of the impact of Christian abolitionist movements in the liberation and freedom of former slaves during the 19th century. • 23. Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident. During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. The Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed John Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not to, Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and the judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far. The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the case of Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its power to interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by congress and the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record 34 years, along with several Associate Justices who served for well over 20 years. During his time on the bench, Marshall succeeded in molding the federal judicial system into what many, as I do, consider to be today s most powerful branch of government. I am sure there will be many who will be too fascinated by an AI inhibiting human behavior to worry about the consequences. As some may argue, we re just not at that point yet for many to care. However, as we get closer I do believe that the Turing Red Flag would benefit society as whole but not for all the reasons Walsh discusses. First, I agree that self driven vehicles should clearly be identifiable to human drivers. It could serve for a number of purposes, similar to how student drivers are identifiable on the road. For instance, seeing a student driver may influence other drivers to be more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes sense considering how we currently do not have anything in place to safeguard us from issues that may arise in the future. I feel like it s a step in the right direction but it depends on how deep the law wants to go in regulating the use of AI. The basic concept of the law seems fine, though. For example, going back to autonomous cars and how they should be identifiable to human drivers, it should be something subtle like what Walsh said, a distinct license plate. It definitely should not have a flashing green light placed on top of the vehicle. Imagine a world of self driving cars all with flashing green lights. It s not only intrusive but it s also very distracting. If we had AI blatantly impersonating a celebrity, such as commentating the World Cup as Messi, we wouldn t it periodically inform us that he s a bot because as mentioned earlier, it would take away from the experience. It might create a new social norm where humans will themselves pretend to be AI and who knows what issues (if any) that will bring. In addition to requiring AI to properly introduce themselves, it should also indicate that it s collecting data. • 27. Summary Of The Poem I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Nature has multiple definitions, all having the ability to apply to Wordsworth s poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud. The definitions of nature include nature as an essential quality and characteristics of something, nature as an inherent force that directs the world, humans, or both, and nature as a material world, sometimes with people, sometimes without, however the definitions of nature are not limited to these three. By analyzing I wandered lonely as a cloudby William Wordsworth, all three definitions apply to the poem, implying that the poem is based upon nature. In Wordsworth s poem, nature is the main theme that defines the poem. William Wordsworth s poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud, is about how nature had a direct impact and connection with the speaker. As the speaker was wandering aimlessly as a cloud (1), the speaker encountered a field of daffodils adjacent to an beauteous lake, where everything seemed to be fluttering and dancing in the breeze. (6) The experience that the speaker undergoes displays what kind of perspective the speaker has. As the speaker describes the view using similes, continuous as the stars that shine , hyperbole, they [daffodils] stretched in never ending line (9), and by using vocabulary with positive connotations, such as glee , gay , bliss , the speaker gives the impression that his perspective towards nature is romantic. • 31. The View On Free Will Avalon Singer 29 September 2014 Topic 1: What I Believe is the Correct View on Free Will We are raised to believe that we are the makers of our own destiny. Every decision we make is our own, and we are free citizens in every sense of the word. Although this thought is comforting, I do not consider it to be true. I think that free will is an illusion. The idea of free will is what keeps us sane and motivates us in our lives, but is not what controls our lives. I presume that our world is ruled by determinism, yet due to the fact that people believe that they are acting of their own free will they should be held morally responsible for their actions. In definition of the term determinism, our past actions and events govern what occurs in the present. Therefore, our present actions will not only influence but will decide our future actions. In other words, determinism is the belief that if our past actions or decisions had been different then the outcome of our future actions would be as well. Philosopher A.J Ayer coincides with this in his statement: It may be said of the agent that he would have acted otherwise if the causes of his action had been different, but they being what they were, it seems to follow that he was bound to act as he did (475). According to Natural laws, the universe is comprised of cause and effect relationships with each cause having an effect and each effect having a cause. My aspiration to teach was first ignited by my desire to expose underprivileged black children to their African American history and greatness (earlier on in their lives) to dispel the narrative that black children are biologically inferior. I believe it is fundamental to reverse the psychological oppression that is often pre ingrained into the minds and spirits of young (especially African American) children. Expressly, I believe if children can understand and learn about their predecessors resilient and tenacious spirits, then they are inclined to gain a greater sense of self and perform better in academic environments. In another light, I yearn for an understanding of pedagogical strategies that births critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and a culturally aware people. But how do people who are living outside of the United States or who are new to life in the United States view them? Jennifer Price has just the answer. In her essay The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History , Jennifer Price uses diction, cultural allusions, and organization to reveal her view of the American Population as superficial, materialistic, and trivial. Price begins her essay by explaining the flamingo s rapid appearance in United States culture and the connotations behind the bird while using diction and cultural allusions to characterize United States culture as trivial, superficial and materialistic. Price uses a low level of diction in paragraph one through words like pizzaz and playful . Her informal diction demonstrates her view that United States culture holds trivial things, like flamingo s, with too much importance. Price continues on to describe the superficial value of the bird. The plastic flamingo is inscribed...emphatically across United States lawns, its owners hoping to attach themselves to ideas of wealth. With very little fluctuation over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars. That price has been more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude oil is now just 48 dollars a barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the cause for this sudden change and to what effect will this have on the United Stateseconomy as well as the global economy? There are three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil prices. These contributors are a low demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is caused by a lack of economic growth, the increase in The United States oil production, and The Organization of the PetroleumExporting Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many of Europe s economically struggling countries the increase in production of oil which in return yields lower prices has benefitted them. Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low inflation rate and weak economy has greatly lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil in one of the most prominent import continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their prices in order to retain Europe as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as an export because that would also mean losing billions of dollars per year. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reasons For The Cross Pollination Justification The term cross pollination may be used to best describe the sharing of theories, mathematical computations, algorithms, languages, hardware architecture, system software, applications software and tools between computer science and software engineering. Computer scientists utilize mathematics and theory to analyze if something works. Software engineers apply known rules in order to build and design things. Calude et al. (2008) quoted Vladimir Arnold in their research regarding proofs, Proofs are to mathematics what spelling (or even calligraphy) is to poetry. Mathematical works do consist of proofs, just as poems do consist of characters (p. 6). Proofs are sets of facts that are crucial in explaining theories and concepts. The analogy previously stated denotes the importance, fundamentalism, and structure of proofs in mathematics. Lehman et al. (2012) provided several correlations on how proofs factored in various disciplines in their research: Computer Science: proofs are used to certify that software and hardware will always behave correctly, something that no amount of testing can do. Judicial System: legal truths are decided by a jury based on allowable evidence presented at trial. Business World: authoritative truths are specified by a trusted person or organization, or maybe just your boss.
