against sexism and some discrimination of black people. The chapter titled The Women states,

period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was

instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer
reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip

We are raised to believe that we are the makers of our own destiny. Every decision we make is our
own, and we are free citizens in every sense of the word.
Although this thought is comforting, I do not consider it to be true. I think that free will is an
illusion. The idea of free will is what keeps us sane and motivates us in our lives, but is not what
controls our lives. I presume that our world is ruled by determinism, yet due to the fact that people
believe that they are acting of their own free will they should be held morally responsible for their
actions.
In definition of the term determinism, our past actions and events govern what occurs in the
present. Therefore, our present actions will not only influence but will decide our future actions.
In other words, determinism is the belief that if our past actions or decisions had been different
then the outcome of our future actions would be as well. Philosopher A.J Ayer coincides with
this in his statement: It may be said of the agent that he would have acted otherwise if the causes
of his action had been different, but they being what they were, it seems to follow that he was

From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little
fluctuation over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars.
That price has been more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude
oil is now just 48 dollars a barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the
cause for this sudden change and to what effect will this have on the United Stateseconomy as well
as the global economy? There are three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil
prices. These contributors are a low demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is
caused by a lack of economic growth, the increase in The United States oil production, and The

of Europe s economically struggling countries the increase in production of oil which in return
