The Lack of Creativity in the Yellow Wallpaper
Lack of Creativity and Isolation in The Yellow Wallpaper
In The Yellow Wallpaper, Charlotte Perkins Gilman presents an unnamed woman who gradually
spirals into a state of mental psychosis. Gilman sought to bring attention to the unfair treatment of
women in the nineteenth century. She uses this story to reveal to the audience that the narrator s
insanity stems from her isolation from society, and her inability to be expressive and creative
through writing. Throughout The Yellow Wallpaper
, the narrator is locked away in an isolated
room, which was supposed to cure her mental disorder but instead it makes her worse. With the
windows barred and the doors locked she is secluded from society. She wishes to go visit her cousin
Henry and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The work that she is referencing here is her writing, and she disagrees with her husband and
brother s idea that she should not be writing. Instead, she believes that if she is permitted to
work, or write, her condition would improve. Her opinions are not taken into consideration, thus
she is obligated to write in secret. The first evidence that indicates that the narrator was driven to
insanity due to lack of expression is when the narrator writes that [she] did write for a while in
spite of them; but it does exhaust [her] a good deal having to be so sly about it (Gilman 86). The
narrator is intending to say that it is the hiding that is exhausting, not the writing itself. The
narrator experiences considerable obstacles every time she attempts to express herself through
writing. Every time she writes in her journal she has to stop herself when her husband arrives
because, he hates to have [her] write a word (Gilman 87). The narrator even has to shield herself
from her sister in law Jennie, There comes John s sister. Such a dear girl as she is, and so careful
of me! I must not let her find me writing (Gilman 89). Jennie is in the house to look after her when
her husband is gone, and she worries that if Jennie catches her writing she will

Essay about Marie Curie
Marie Curie
LIFE OF MARIE CURIE
Marie Curie(1867 1934) was a French physicist with many accomplishments in both physics and
chemistry. Marie and her husband Pierre, who was also a
French physicist, are both famous for their work in radioactivity.
Marie Curie, originally named Marja Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw,
Poland on Nov.7, 1867. Her first learning of physics came from her father who taught it in high
school. Marie s father must have taught his daughter well because in 1891, she went to
Paris(where she changed her original name) and enrolled in the Sorbonne. Then two years later she
passed the Examination for her physics degree ranking in first place. She met Pierre ... Show more

Curie thus began studying uranium radiation and made it her doctoral thesis. With the aid of an
electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium
compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time
and influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the
compounds of thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium
pitchblende and the mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium
content. She realized that unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present.
Then in 1898 she drew the revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an
unknown radiating element.
Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next
year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries
native country) and Radium.
They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical
properties could be determined. During the next four years, working in a leaky wooden shed, they
processed a ton of pitchblende, laboriously isolating from it a fraction of a gram of radium.

Justice Antonin Scalia Case Analysis
I have chosen to write my research paper on the late Justice Antonin Scalia. I wanted to know
more about his legal philosophy of originalism and the legacy he left. I wanted to read on some of
his landmark case rulings. I focused on one to include in my research paper. My thesis statement is
as follows:
Justice Antonin Scalia made no apologies for his legal philosophy of originalism, despite opposition
from other justices and the public. Scalia believed that the United States Constitution should strictly
be interpreted in terms of what the founding fathers had meant for it when the Constitution was
written. Scalia s critics contended that the Constitution is a living document, therefore, it should
allow the courts to take into consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One case I learned more about is Roe v. Wade. By reading and understanding this cases and the
different opinions of the Justices, I would be able to better understand the case I chose for my
term paper. I had chosen the case, Planned Parenthood v. Casey and how Antonin Scalia brought
his view of originalism to this case. Furthermore, this lead me to read about Sandra Day O Connor,
who changed the standards to the abortion laws. I was able to read a variety of articles and
publications on Antonin Scalia and his childhood which helped me understand how his upbringing
contributed to his viewpoints in his career life. A helpful publication I found interesting was, The
Constitution in the Year 2000: Choices Ahead in Constitutional Interpretations. I was able to look
for other policies from the Government website, in Washington, D.C. Although not all of these
sources are included in the main content of my research paper, it gave me the insight, to understand
the variables that contributed to who Antonin Scalia was and the opinions he held and why they
differed from other Justices. I learned how Antonin Scalia was able to leave a lasting

The Role Of Animals In The Celtic Culture
Animals symbolized the good and the evil in the celtic culture, and much hasn t change till this
day. Celtics viewed animals as symbols of herosim, strength, beauty, evil, death , omens, and
almost everything else in their daily lives. For example the dog was viewed as a spiritual
guardian to its owner, a friend, and a tool that was depended on at times. Today their role hasn t
changed much and still symbolizes everything they did to the celtics. We have a great friendship
bond with our dogs, and can trust them with our lives. They are our guardians when we are
distracted, and guard our homes at night. The celtics used greyhounds as gifts, and I can understand
why. Greyhound dogs are built athletic and speed. Today greyhound dogs are used to

Obtain a Cleaned Base History:
Base Demand + Activities + Circumstances = Final Demand Plan
When changing the demand planning process to adopt the concept, markets need to adapt historical
data. This task will be done once during the implementation of the concept.
Maintain a Cleaned Base History:
Once the concept is in place, maintain the Cleaned Base History by cleaning history of the new
historical data. This task is to be done every month/week in the monthly and weekly Demand
Planning cycles.
Validation of Cleaning with Statistical Forecasting:
Statistical Forecasting tools are strongly recommended to support Obtain a Cleaned Base History
process. Indeed,
Demand planners and Sales Marketing need to validate the consistency of the Cleaned Base History
with statistical simulation tool.
Judgmental approach:
This involves the knowledge and experience of the Demand Planners and people from Sales
Marketing. Their judgment based on the business experience is the most important input in the
cleaning process.
Mathematical approach:
Mathematical and graphical techniques support the judgmental approach. They highlight data that,
potentially, need to be cleaned and thus ease the manual work.
Distinction is needed for three types of products:
The strategy to clean depends on the category:
В· Category 1 : Mix products
Detailed cleaning is necessary
В· Category 2 : Baseline products
Only exceptional circumstances will be removed

Martin Luther And The Christian Church
Martin Luther was an Augustinian monk who believed the grace of God alone would justify fall
humans. Luther one day translated the Bible into German unknowingly beginning the start of a
radical religious revolution. Luther wanted to reform the Christian church of abuses. He wanted to
return the church to its roots of Christianityand take away moderation. Luther believed in the
reading of scriptures and finding the truth from within them. Robert Kolb believed, Luther was
filled with the dynamism that sprang from his spiritual conviction. (267) He believed Luther
inspired others to have a personal relationship with Godand to inspire hope. Luther is depicted by
many as a friend and a foe. People took his materials and thoughts and made them into ideas that
could be used for their own purposes. Martin Luther has shaped the institutions and life of
Christendom. He influenced his followers as a churchman and a teacher. Lutheran churches came to
think of Luther as a prophetic hero and authority of faith. Some believed he was a servant of God, a
prophet and the eschatological angel. Followers of Luther set about to change the institutions and
ideas that were helping to keep the world together. Three conceptions of Luther s emerged and grew
even beyond his years. First, Martin Luther was seen as a prophet and becoming the primary
authority in the church. Luther made challenges that brought to light the doubts of the old religious
system. Martin Luther and his adherents believed

Aspects of Our Existence in The Canterbury Tales Essay
Aspects of Our Existence in The Canterbury Tales
Through out the history of our own existence men and women alike have pondered and
questioned whether there truly exists a force that controls all aspects of our existence. In order to
answer these questions men have gone on spiritual quest for not only knowledge of god, but to
shed light on our own lives. Men like Geoffrey Chaucer take us on a quest to dig deep within our
souls to answer our own question. In Chaucer s collection of tales entitled, The Canterbury Tales

of Thomas a Becket. The pilgrims all seek knowledge they cannot have but still try and find that

The millers Tale, is a tale of humor that involves four characters who all search for love in the
wrong placer and learn form their mistakes. The tale begins at the house of the carpenter John
who is an aged man. Who marries a young girl named Alison who is only eighteen years old.
Chaucer intentionally does this to show that the age difference is a power to be reckoned with.
Chaucer himself describes the contrast of age when he says, She was a girl of eighteen years of
age. Jealous he was and kept her in a cage, for he was old and she was wild an young; he thought
himself quiet likely to be stung. Chaucer perfectly describes the youth and its effect upon the
character. The other character Nicholas the Galland, is described by Chaucer as, This lad was
know as Nicholas the Galland, and making love in secret was his talent, for he was very close
and sly, and took advantage of his meek and girlish look. Chaucer her foreshadows the relation
ship between the two young characters by describing their flaws such as youth and beauty in
Alison and Slyness in Nicholas. The other character Absolon is also a young ambitious character
who wants to get Alison at any cost an is described by Chaucer as, Absalon was a

Baby Driver Summary
In Baby Driver, the director Edgar Wright had the intention to show a most entertaining time.
Edgar Howard Wright is an English director, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in 1974.
Wright has never classified as one of those filmmakers who you would expect to follow along the
lines of his past work, which include his comical genre rethink zombie flick, Shaun of the Dead
and the cop caper Hot Fuzz. As a young teenager he started making short films with a Super 8
camera. Continuing his early filmcareer, after he won a Video 8 camera in a comic relief contest
he decided he wanted to get into the movies. A few movies and awards latter he now has the
status of a top director in cinematic arts. Well thought through, Wright remixes the movies and
tunes that have influenced him, into the widely joyous and fantastically entertaining Baby
Driver. A genre ride with a rebuilt engine and a sick paint job, Baby Driver shows movement and
sometimes stillness. When you first see Baby that displays his handle, which suits Mr. Elgort
who plays Baby. With his angelic face and young man s lissomness he has control in the driver s
seat, where he belongs. This is how baby does things, with shifting gears, pumping feet and
thumping tunes, and how Mr. Wright rolls here as well. Excitingly the story illustrates Baby
getting in and out of trouble while discovering love and money. He does not have much of an
inner life, but he has skills, a heavy back story and a kindly foster

The National Plan Of Integrated Airport Systems
The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) forever changed the way airports were
classified when it was unveiled in 1982 (Wells, 2011). The aviation industry had grown
significantly since deregulation went into effect, and a new system needed to be put in place that
would distinguish airports with incredible growth and expansion from those that served niche
markets or flight training (Wells). Under the NPIAS, airports were broken down into three major
categories: commercial services airports, reliever airports, and general aviationairports (Wells). The
following paragraphs describe the three categories of airports that were created by the NPIAS, and
conclude with an airportthat fits into that particular category today.
Commercial Services Airport When the general public thinks about airports, chances are they
will imagine an airport that fits into this category. Commercial services airports are defined in
our text as those airports that accommodate scheduled air carrier service, provided by the world s
certificated air carriers (Wells). These are the airports that move passengers and cargo across the
United States and the world. Commercial services airports are not created equal, however, which is
why they are further broken down into different categories of hubs. They range from large hub
airports that account for at least 1 percent of the total passenger enplanements in the United States
to medium and small hub airports that account for less and

None of the secrets of success work unless you do. Anonymous

for the rest of us, we will be over here working our butts off to make a change in our lives and
working for said secrets of success. In 2006, a movie like documentary, The Secret, created by

Chinese History And The Chinese Tradition
Chinese history has witnessed the governing styles of many different dynasties throughout its
history. Both the Tang and Yuan dynasties had expansionist ideologies, and both attempted to
reallocate workload under their administrations. While the Tang government was focused on
management and focused (specialization?) of tasks and services, the Yuan dynastywas less able to
fully control its territory and people. The Yuan dynasty s shaky regime, when contrasted with the
relative stability of the Tang, highlights their differences in focus and implementation of legislation.
The Tang views on how to govern their large empire were steeped in Chinese tradition. They
believed that the country was so large, one man could not hope to rule it (1). Thus, they should
enfeoff their relatives and therefore disseminate power across the land so that no one man is too
strong (2,3). In contrast, the Mongols believed that the vast territory that they had acquired needed
to be divided by stark, strict lines. Ethnic and occupational divisions were cleaved within
bureaucratic and social spheres (Governing China 53). These ideological differences highlight the
source of these differences between dynasties: while the Tang was based in a rich native cultural
history, the Yuan was a foreign power exacting influence in an unfamiliar region. This difference
would color all other parts of the dynasties governance. The extent to which the Tang stretched in its
prime could only be compared to the

Assess The Relevance Of Sociological Theory
Sociologists study the effect that the general public or society has on the individuals attitude and
conduct. They seek to understand ways in which the people interact with one another and give
shape to the society. They go beyond the general understandings in an attempt to provide answers
or comprehend social happenings. Sociologists do not agree to accept something as a fact just
because everybody knows it . They don t see society as we do. They continually question and study
why certain things happen. Findings are examined by the sociological researchers, scrutinized in
relation to other data, and analyzed with sociological theory. Sociological theory is a set of

Fact based questions give us the details on what, how and who. The next step is to question how
often a particular thing happens, as in asking relative questions about the circumstance in
different types of societies. There are two important kinds of questions asked in sociological
research, which are empirical and theoretical questions. There is a particular way in which all
research works are carried out. It starts with an issue. It is usually in the form of having little
knowledge about the particular subject, knowledge gap or it is some kind of a puzzle. The next
step once the identification of the problem is made, is to go through all existing relevant studies in
an organized manner to identify potential visions or gaps. The third step is to narrow down the
problem to make the hypothesis. When the research is at its end, it should either approve or dismiss
the hypothesis. After the third step, the researchers must design the type of research they want to
do. Then they must choose a method to successfully conduct the research. Carrying on research
work is very circuitous, and is not direct at all. Problems regarding the morality of the questions, the
permission or restriction to use certain information may arise. Also, understanding the information
gathered and putting up the findings to the appropriate audience is also a challenge. Identifying the
cause and effect can also be tricky. The causation and the relationship of the variables should be

Summary Of Jack London s White Fang
What if you took a very deep look at severity in the wild and the heartlessness of mankind? That
is the story of White Fang. White Fang is an adventure fiction novel by Jack London, and it was
published in May 1906 by Macmillan Publishers. It is a very gruesome novel that tells the story
about wolves during the Klondike Gold Rush. Jack Londonwent to the gold rush and experienced
the wild for himself, and he tells about it in this story along with a similar book The Call of the
Wild. This book is important because it shows how violent the animals in the wild are and how
cruel people can be.
Due to London s writing style, White Fang is told in both third person limited and omniscient.
He shifts his focus early on the story with two characters Hank and Bill to the main character
White Fang later on; this helps the reader see from different points of view, even though Bill and
Henry s story doesn t last long. The story takes place in the Canada, in the Yukon Territory and
Northwest Territories, in the 1890 s. The story takes place during the Klondike Gold Rush,
relating to London s experiences during the said gold rush. This gives a sense of isolation and fear
as there are few creatures out in the snowy environment, and the few animals that are in the area
are predators. This changes later as the main characters gets to civilization. There are many
characters in the story; The characters in the story include both dogs and humans. The main

If the congress would see that the military already has capable planes, they could see that
dropping that much money into the F 35 is not the best idea. The A 10 is getting all the pressure
from the development of the F 35 just because the Pentagon wants more of a multi role aircraft
that the F 35 in theory could do. The Air Force came out and said retiring its fleet of almost 300

Being the country with the second highest number of Catholics Mexican citizens remain hopeful.
From 1929 to 1980, Mexico held the longest ruling party in the world called the Partido
Revolutionario Institutional (PRI), or the Institutional Revolutionary Party. The PRI dominated the
political institutions in Mexico. It was a party that included all significant figures in the national
and local politics. The PRI funded the media during its time in power, and enabled them to
control what was being said and presented about the Mexican government. Resources say that the
PRI would spy on the journalists using the national intelligence agency (Hallin 87). The lack of
professionalism and higher education also hindered the opportunity for journalists to be seen as
respectable and credible to the public. In the 1950 s, Televisa, the first Latin American television
network was created and funded by the PRI. Televisa continues to be the largest television
network in Latin America today; however, due to its ties with the PRI during the 1950 s, Televisa
is still seen as a government affiliated network. In Daniel C. Hallin s article, Media, Political
Power and Democratization in Mexico, he goes into further detail on how Televisa openly
supported PRI during the electoral campaign. In 1988, the ruling party [PRI] faced its toughest

Background Checks
The Preying Background Jasmine Sophus COM/156 January 9, 2012 Stacy Tye Williams Abstract
Criminal record checks are high in demand for decision makers to predict future unwanted
behaviors during employment screening. Employers conduct background checks on job applicants
for several reasons. One reason may be to confirm their moral character. Another reason may be
the desire to assess their risk of committing crimes that could cause somatic, monetary, and
reputational damage to the company. Consequently, if a person has had their record expunged then
it isn t protecting the company at all, it only allows them to see what they would like. Background

Pre Qualified to get Disqualified Background checks hinder many qualified people from getting
the positions they deserve. Many people have made mistakes in their youthful past but have
since turned themselves around and now live a respectful life (BLUMSTEIN NAKAMURA,
2009). Everyone has made a mistake in the past but after learning from their mistakes many have
redeemed themselves and become better people. Criminal background checks reveal the
individual s old criminal record and highlight that fact, which overshadows a law abiding life led
since (BLUMSTEIN NAKAMURA, 2009). People have started families and want to set
examples for their children. Many of these people have earned college degrees hoper for a better
future. Degrees are the same no matter where you get them or who gets them. A degree doesn t
reflect a hard worked education that you have succeeded not a pass that you are haunted by. A
person with a past has to put forth the same amount of effort to get a degree as someone with no
criminal history. If they ve worked to obtain the degree then they should have the same
opportunity regardless of their past. Same Old Person, New Clean Record People Who Have
Clean Records are No Innocent, or Less Capable than Those Who Have A Criminal History.
Today we have the options of having our record expunged or sealed. Having you record sealed
means the public will not have access to it but certain parts of the government can access it.

How High Energy X Rays Are Used On A Crystal Essay
Figure 1: Top: Shows how high energy X rays are used on a crystal to create an XRD pattern (Law
2009). Bottom: An example XRD pattern for a sample point (Xue et al. 2016). Then the collected
XRD patterns are organized and the underlying structures are found. Meaning that for each library
there should be a small number of underlying XRD patterns, usually less than ten, such that every
patternin the library can be reconstructed as a linear combination of these underlying patterns.
These underlying patterns can then be used to interpret the crystal structure of each sample point, as
well as give insights into the material properties of each sample point. These underlying XRD
patterns are often called a phase. This signal de mixing of material systems is referred to as the
phase mapping problem. Using traditional methods material scientists can process
approximately ten XRD patterns per day, whereas sample points are generated on the order of
thousands per day (Gregoire et al. 2009; 2014). Clearly there is a need for a scalable algorithmic
approach to address this problem. To address this problem the novel solver AgileFD was created
that is based on convolutive non negative matrix factorization (cNMF), which has been previously
used for source separation problems (Smaragdis 2004; MГёrup and Schmidt 2006). AgileFD uses
lightweight iterative update rules that allows for fast solutions, on the order of minutes (Xue et al.

The Importance Of Justice In Ian Mcewan s Atonement
During the course one s life, one will encounter situations in which one strongly feels a particular
way despite a lack of evidence. Often, the strength of such convictions will lead one to act rashly,
projecting one s views onto others due to one s emotional state. This rashness can lead to one
making decisions that will harm both oneself and those around one. The rifts that are created as a
result of such difficulties can lead to tension and differences between individuals for years to
come. More often than not, one must find a way to be forgiven for what one has done, as only then
can one obtain peace with others and oneself. In Ian McEwans Atonement, Briony Tallis s struggle
on her path to understanding and correcting an injustice demonstrates the manner in which one can
be forgiven, showing that in order to achieve forgiveness one must take the path to righting one s
wrongdoings and admitting the truth of one s situation. To begin, the naГЇvety and distorted views
of reality that Briony Tallis possess reveals her inability to understand the meaning of justice.
Briony, who is only thirteen at the time, views the adult world from a child s perspective, seeing
adult acts through the lense of melodrama ( Atonement 7). As result, in reading Robbie s letter she
immediately [casts] herself as her sister s protector (McEwan 115), and thus imagines that Robbie

Hitler s Mistakes In The Battle Of Dunkirk
Throughout Hitler s reign over Germany, he made several major mistakes. His first major mistake
was his inability to quickly annihilate Britain in the battle of Dunkirk, whom ultimately contributed
to the German defeat. The battle of Dunkirk took place during the summer of 1940, beginning May
26th to June 4th. At this point, Germanyhad Britain, France, and Poland surrounded, but Hitler
did not order his troops to engage because he wanted to please a potential ally, the Russians.
Stalin (Russian leader) did not trust Hitler and was prepared in advance for war with Germany.

This battle took place from June 22 to December 5, 1941 and demonstrates how Germany broke
their pact with Russia. This opened up the Eastern front, meaning the German s would have to
fight on two fronts instead of one. Hitler made an mistake attacking Russia in the first place, but
to make it worse, he gave Stalin enough time to build his defences during Hitler s decision to not
eliminate the British during the battle of Dunkirk. His strategy of invading Russia was over
before the two forces even fought. There was no reason for the pact between Germany and
Russia to break as Russia was not a threat to Germany at this point. Hitler s greedy, anti
communist views overpowered him when he realized he had conquered most of Europe. Hitler did
not think that the other democratic countries would side with Russia. He rushed his plans and it
resulted in a defeat. He would have ultimately been better off breaking the pact when he conquered
the other empires who were more of a threat to the Germans first. This is another example of how

Customer service performance is a measure of how well the logistics system functions in creating
time and place utility, with a focus on external customers. The level of customer service provided to
customers determines whether the organization will retain existing customers and how many new
customers will atract.
Definition of Customer Service
The definition of customer service varies across organizations. Suppliers and their customers can
view the concept of customer service quite differently. In a broad sense, customer service is the
measure of how well logistics systems is performing providing time and place utility for a product
or service.
* Definition of Customer Service
Customer service can be defined as: a process which takes place between the buyer, seller and
third party. The process results in a value added to the product or service exchanged. This value
added in the exchange process might be short term as in a single transaction or longer term as in
a contractual relationship. The value added is also shared, in that each of the parties to the
transaction than it was before the transaction took place. Thus, in a process view: Customer
Service is a process for providing significant value added benefits to the supply chain in a cost

In order to achieve this success, Wright and Saskiw must first identify the bottleneck in the
process. The MRI machine and the time it takes perform a scan is the bottleneck of the process.
Each scan can have different times associated with it depending on the type of scan that will be
performed. This will limit the capacity of the overall process. For example, a scan without
contrast will usually take 30 minutes. A scan that requires contrast will double that time to 60
minutes. According to exhibit # 2, in order to break even annually, the clinic will have to cover
the total operating expenses of $690,000. That means that the clinic will have to perform 986

equipment in the clinic is capable of much more, this operation should have no problem in reaching
and exceeding its goal daily if proper measures are put into place. Improvements must start at the
beginning of the process, as each step in the process is dependant upon the previous step. One of
the goals of the clinic should be in improving the process flow up to the point that the actual scan
will take place. The clinic must also eliminate much of the variability and uncertainties in the
scanning process which is ultimately making the process difficult to manage. The uncertainties

Not the most surprising answer to hear, but it s true about how Julius was able to established his

Social Conflict Theory Paper
Social conflict theory sees social life as a race and centers on the allocation of resources, power,
and inequality. Social conflict theory is a Marxist based social theory which argues that
individuals and groups (social classes) within society interact based on conflict rather than
consensus. More powerful groups will tend to use their power in order to retain power and exploit
groups with less power (Butler, 1991; Payne, 2015). According to conflict theory, those with wealth
and power try to hold on to it by any means possible, chiefly by suppressing the poor and
powerless (Collins, 1990). Moreover, the theory revolves around concepts of social inequality in
the division of resources and focuses on the conflicts that exist between classes.

Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf
Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s
time; however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are
unable to display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes
consist of people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from
everyone else, selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the
main characters of both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Although they both demonstrate heroism,
Beowulf is portrayed as more of a modern herothan Dante because he displays all three of the
common characteristics of a modern hero while Dante only displays two of them. A key component

Beowulf, being a war hero, displays his courage every time he goes to fight a monster whether it
be Grendel or the dragon. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could
potentially kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For
example, before the battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the
barrow, safe in your armor. . . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his
men to stay back while he fights the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to
go against a fire breathing dragon alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has
is not shared with Dante. Dante throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion
due to his fear and shock. For instance, after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the
Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the terror of it bathes me with sweat even in
memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I stumbled into the darkness and went
down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is over come with fear or anxiety he
passes out and is unable to act. That does not display courageousness, but instead it shows his
weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if Beowulf acted in a similar manner when
facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to defeat the dragon and the people of
city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon. This lack of courage displayed by Dante
is what sets him apart from Beowulf and prevents him from being a true modern

The People Of France And The National Assembly
The people of France have endured many hardships as the result of several conflicting ideas being
proposed about the National Assembly, our governing body, and its effectiveness in ruling our great
nation. The people of France want structure, they want a sound government who will do right by
them and will save them from starving with food and order.
As our great Nation continues this struggle for power in the National Assembly, more and more
rebellions have come to light. Just yesterday it was announced in the town s square the
Feuillants have split from the Jacobins out of fear. Fear of what the Jacobins are going to do
now that the king has fled his home and the people he governed. They claim the Jacobins are to
blood thirst and will continue to seek out the lives of those who oppose them. The Feuillants
were also afraid of the Jacobins who wanted to replace the king with another leader. Who knows
what the new leader will be like? How can we trust them to know what is good for us? If the
Jacobins want to replace our king then what else would they see changed? Will we see the loss of
private property? These drastic ideas upset us for they do not hold certainty.
Further in the future we will see that the Feuillants were correct in their decision to serve ties with
the radical hungry Jacobins. Having gained the ability to hold riots of their own from the good
people of France the Jacobins return favor by executing the surviving Conservatives. I agree with

Environmental Crisis Exposed in The World Is Too Much With Us and God s Grandeur
In his poem, The World Is Too Much With Us, William Wordsworth blames modern man of being
too self indulgent. Likewise, Gerard Manley Hopkins shows how the way we treat nature shows
our loss of spirituality in his poem, God s Grandeur. We are ruthless by lacking proper appreciation
for, being separated from, and abusing nature.
Man lacks proper gratitude for nature. People often are blind to nature s great beauty. It moves us
not, says Wordsworth. Many people never see a sunriseor a sunset because we are too concerned
with the hustle and bustle of our tiny worlds to appreciate the opulence around us. We don t

We also take animals for granted. We believe that they were created ultimately for our use.
Wordsworth goes as far as to wish he was A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn. Pagans often use
animals as their gods. Woodworth thinks that if we were all pagans, we would truly respect the
Earth and everything upon it. Our alienation from nature makes us merciless to Mother Nature.
Man s alienation from nature is the reason man abuses nature. Economic gain is what most people
think of when cutting down a tree, or doing something else to harm the landscape. In his poem,
Wordsworth shows that We have given our hearts away. This means that we have taken something
so close to us, and mistreated it. We have sold what God gave us for material things. We also have
overused the Earth for industrial advantage. The Earth is taken advantage of, and is seared with
trade; bleared, smeared with toil, as Hopkins explains in the poem, God s Grandeur. Our children
may not have natural resources because we greedily use them up. We want to use Alaska,
America s last frontier, to gain more natural resources. We feel nothing when we pollute nature
for our benefit. The Earth wears man s smudge and shares man s smell. Today we are threatened
with skin cancer because of a hole in the ozone layer due to factories and our love of machines

According to AnnMarie Cornejo, writer for The Tribune, Randy Coates opened the first store,

2007. The name is said to be in honor of the legend, O. L. Deloloy, a poor, immigrant grandfather
who rode his black horse around Seattle stealing coffeebeans from the docks and brewing them
into coffee to give to his neighbors. In 2008, Randy Coates retired and sold BlackHorse to Tom
Brown and Greg Hind, who in 2009 proceeded to open a second location in Broad Street Village
(Cornejo, 2011). BlackHorse continued to grow in 2011 when they opened their Foothill location

Violence Against Women And Girls Essay
Violence against women and girls is internationally prevalent. Regardless of class, age, or race,
women everywhere are subject to physical, sexual, psychological, and economic aggression
(United Nations, 2015; 1). According to the World Health organization, 1 in 3 women will
experience physical and/or sexual violence by a partner a non partner. Moreover, studies
conducted by the World Health Organization suggest that exposure to violent behavior can have
detrimental impacts that can affect the physical, mental, and emotional health of a woman or
girl; some instances of extreme violence also lead to death. Due to the epidemic of gender based
homicides, the term femicide became apparent. The term femicide was coined by a woman
named Carol Orlock, but was later defined in 2001 by an expert on violence against women and
girls, Diana E. H. Russell. Femicide, as Diana defines it, is the killing of females by males
because they are female . Presented by the World Health Organization, the main types and
prevalence of femicide are intimate femicide, murders in the name of honor , dowry related
femicide, and non intimate femicide (Garcia Moreno, Guedes and Knerr, 2012; 1 2). Indeed, the
forms of femicide existing vary among all cultures internationally, however, in this paper; I will
primarily focus on non intimate femicide in the region of Ciudad Juarez. Before delving into the
complexities surrounding non intimate femicide in Juarez, I will first examine the politics of

Attachment Vs. Attachment Theory
This essay will comprise, firstly, of past research looking into what attachment/ attachment theory
is, focusing on Bowlby s (1973) research into why an infant s first attachment is so important.
Followed, by the work of Ainsworth et al (1978) bringing to light the findings from the strange
situation, and how the research can explain mental illness. From this and in depth discussion
looking at how the previously discussed pieces of research have an effect on two particular
disorders, depression and anxiety; while keeping a holistic approach considering other variables
within attachment theorywhich have been linked with the development of these disorders. Through
out, the implications of knowing about this potential link between attachment and mental health
will also be discussed. Finally, a conclusion will be made to whether there is a strong link with
attachment and mental illness.
Attachment theory has proven to be one of the most beneficial frameworks for understanding risk
and protection factors within developmental psychology stated by Bowlby (1973). Bowlby (1982)
suggested that children form mental representations of relationships based on their interactions
with their primary care giver. Which form a cognitive structure of embodying memories based on
these daily interactions with their attachment figure (Bretherton et al, 1990). This is more
commonly known as the internal working model, and has been used to explain how infants used
this existing representation, to

Che Guevara In The Motorcycle Diaries
The film The Motorcycle Diaries tells the origin story of Ernesto Guevara before he became the
legendary revolutionary leader Che Guevara. I separate Che from Ernesto because it truly seems
as if Guevara s soul was shaken during the course of his journey portrayed in this film and the
insight he gained into the lives of his fellow South Americans transformed him into a completely
different person with new beliefs and goals This new person would later be known around the
world as Che. Guevara s compassion for the less fortunate was evident in his early life, in which
he pursued a medical career with a focus in providing aid to those with leprosy. His compassion
was amplified through his trip across South America where he was able to interact... Show more

Ernesto at the beginning of the film is completely different from the Che that is killed in Bolivia
by the CIA. It is almost impossible to imagine the shy medical student at the beginning of the film
leading revolutionary soldiers in the Congo near the end of his life. Transformation like this is
rare and only occurs under extreme circumstances. Guevara was born in the right place and time to

Grendel In The Epic Vs. Modern Beowulf
Epic Beowulf vs. Modern Beowulf
In this poem Beowulf was about a man who was the strongest man in the world who had very
strong confidence in a lot of things. He was respectful to the king and listened to what the king
had to say. He was the protector of all the men, He strongly didn t like Grendel the most powerful
monster that lived in darkness, he was set on getting rid of Grendel for the King to pay him back
for what he did to save his father. He was a courageous young man who was very knowledgeable
and extremely intelligent. But there s a twist on the events between the Epic Beowulf and the new
Modern Beowulf and how his character showed the difference and braveness.
Grendel is a powerful monster who lives deep down in the darkness who hears loud music in the
hall, and the harp of rejoicing. He dislikes the loud noises so he decides to go to King s village
and kills mostly everyone in the hall and rips one person in half and eats another one. Not only did
Grendel already visited Hrothgar s home once before hand, he even knew there. But never before or
after that night, he found herot defend his reception, he was still joyful. Grendel then finds ... Show

Beowulf strength was way more realistic on how he defeated Grendel to make him never

for his fellow people of the village to show braveness and that he s fearless even when he got
hurt he didn t want anyones help or to be healed he just wanted to die alone in peace. Beowulf
did all he could to make the town safe again and that s all he felt he needed to do. Beowulf wasn

The Negative Effects Of Media In The Media
In today s modern social and public media children can come across many different forms of
unwanted profanity and bad practices. As this becomes more and more prevalent children are
slowly becoming more and more accustomed to hearing and seeing profane things. Children are
being impacted in a negative way when crossing negative and profane media. This media can lead
to children developing a sense of fear, lack of respect towards their piers and others around them,
and a desensitizing of emotions and thoughts. These days its pretty hard not to come across content
in media that can be offensive and or profane. This is partly due to the fact that movie and media
rating companies are becoming more and more lenient with what content is considered non profane
and what is. For example, Kimberly M. Thompson and Fumie Yokota found in their research of the
correlation between movie rating and profanityand violence saying, The MPAA mentioned
alcohol or drugs in its rating reason for 18% of films, while Screen It! assigned a score above
none for tobacco and/or alcohol/drugs for 95% of films and above none for alcohol/drugs for
93%... This shows that more and more movies and shows are staring to include this profane
content and are still being classified as PG or PG 13. Another study referenced in Chandra
Johnson s article about Kids and swear words: Can profanity in media hurt? referenced a study
by VidAngle saying, from the first swear word on film (1939 s Gone with the Wind ) to 2013 s
The Wolf of Wall Street, which holds the record with 798 swearwords an increase of 500 percent
over 74 years.... This shows that swear words and profanity are being included more and more in
movies and media. We instead need to include versions of movies that are censored and child
family friendly. Having this decrease in profanity standards means that children are going to be
exposed to profanity at a much faster rate. This will increase the rate at which children are affected
and can lead to the negative affects listed above.
Having children become fearful, disrespectful, and desensitized when it comes to emotion will
lead to social and economic issues later down in their lives. For example, Rupal Patel (a child

The Speaker of Birches by Robert Frost
Birches is a poem written by Robert Frost that has a speaker, imagery, and symbols. The speaker
in this poem is Frost. He explains his perspective of the birch trees in first person. Imagery is a
word, phrase, or sentence that shows an experience or object. There are numerous examples of
imagery in this poem. Symbols are something in the poem that stands for something else. There are
various symbols in Birches. In Birches, Frost talks about how he can view birchtrees in winter that
have bent branches. He says he hopes that they are bent because of some boy swinging on them,
because he knows that when a child swings on birch tree branches, the branches do not stay bent
forever because a child is not heavy enough to permanently bend the branches. However, these
trees are permanently bent from the ice storms in this winter season. Ice damages the birch trees
and leaves them bent forever. He then thinks back to his childhood when he used to swing on
trees and not have a worry. He wishes he could return back to his childhood. Birches by Robert
Frost is a poem written in first person that shows imagery and symbols. This thinking and other
reflections in Birches is spoken by Robert Frost in first person. He is the speaker throughout the
entire poem and shares how he feels. An example of the poem being spoken in first person is
when he says, I like to think some boy s been swinging on them. The fact that he uses I shows that
this is first person. The meaning of that

The Great Tribulation In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The tony award winning play The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller. The Crucible came to
be in the 1950s, a time where the fear of Communists in the country was rampant and creating
unnecessary chaos through the United States. The hysteria reminded Miller of the Salem Witch
Trials, the setting of the Crucible, where the paranoia of witches among the Puritans sent the town
into a hurricane of chaos, leading to multiple catastrophic and unnecessary deaths. The perfect
storm of brewing conditions launched one of the most foolish, traumatizing events in American
history. With the conditions seen today, another one of these witch hunts is possible in our modern
day time period. In fact, the Bible foretells of one to happen very soon, described as the Great
Tribulation. Similar to the SalemWitch Trials, the Bible foretells of a time when unstable
conditions would abound, a certain group of people would face persecuted, and people will have to
confront a moral dilemma similar to the one presented in the Crucible.
One could be asking the question, What is the Great Tribulation? The Great Tribulation is a
period of time foretold in the Bible. According to JW.org, the Great Tribulation is the end of the
system of things we live in today. How long it will last is unknown, but it will be very severe and
something unlike any event that s happened today, as seen in Matthew 24:21. To emphasize the
severity of the event, the article describes its seriousness by looking at

Modern Day Immigration And The United States
Modern Day Immigration The United States of America is not a perfect nation, however certain
qualities that America possesses includes America as the land of opportunity, prosperity, and simply
being a better place to live leads citizens from other countries to aspire to live in America. Countries
in the twenty first century still endure poverty, high mortality rates, poor or no health insurance,
and are forced to endure inhumane and unethical treatment by the enforcement of leaders of certain
nations. Therefore, the issue of immigration and the entry of unauthorized illegal immigrants in the
United Statesis still a relevant issue in today s society. An illegal alien or immigrant is defined as a
foreign person who is living in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The past immigration reform that the government attempted to implement has not deterred illegal
entry into the country. The problem of immigration should not be categorized as a political or
economic charged debate within America, but as a humanitarian crisis. For example, United States
being the most developed and successful country in the world should discuss with Mexico ways to
improve the living condition in their country to accommodate its citizens appropriately and
financially assist and support the country in that is in need, only if the country follows Americas
plan and terms. These ideas are supported by the article The Framing of Immigration in which the
authors states that changing the framing of the problem (immigration) would lead to a solution
involving the Secretary of State, conversations with Mexico and other Central American countries,
and a close examination of the promises of NAFTA, CAFTA, the WTO, the IMF and the World
Bank to raise the standards of living around the globe. These organizations are free trade
agreements that some may say are intended to benefit the government in Mexico and not the
everyday people. This article also implies that this is not an immigration problem but a
globalization problem because of the migration and displacement of people from their homeland at a

The Historical Area Of Israel And Palestine
The history of the geographical area substituting Israel and Palestine is one of war and bloodshed.
For nearly three millennia people have been fighting over the Holy Land in wars that were religious
in their essence. An understanding of the historic background of the area is important to
comprehend the present day reasons for the complexity of the task of conflict resolution. The
simplified timeline provided below is an attempt to summarise the most important events. Since the
Israelites conquest in approximately 1250BC, rule over the Holy Land went from hand to hand,
including Israelite, Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Muslim control. This early history
is tightly linked to the Jewish people and their displacement which... Show more content on

The public would not know of this agreement until the end of 1917, only three weeks after the
Balfour Declaration, a letter granting royal British support for the creation of a Jewish state in
Palestine, was issued. Suspicion grew between Arabs, Jews, and the British. In 1920, two years
after the end of WWI, the area which used to be the Ottoman empire was split into mandates,
giving the British control over Palestine. During the 1930s the Nazis gained power in Germany,
leading to big waves of Jewish immigration to Palestine, especially during times of Jewish
persecution between 1933 and 1945. This period was marked by Palestinian uprisings against
the British Mandate, and after the Second World War had commenced in 1939 also by Jewish
resistance to the British. In 1947, two years after the Nazis had been defeated and WWII had
ended, the British government handed the issue of the Palestinian future, which had seen Jewish
mass migration during and after the war, to the United Nations, which voted the partition of
Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Despite Israeli attacks on Palestinian villages in early
1948, the British ended their mandate over Palestine on May 14th, now celebrated by Israelis as
Independence Day, by Palestinians lamented as Nakba (catastrophe). On May 15, the first Israeli
Arab war began, including several members of the Arab League. The following year over 700,000

Our goal of this training is to teach your dog that he gets something even better for ignoring the

Put a tablet in both hands, Show him one fist with tablet inside, and say (Leave it). Let him lick,
sniff, mouth, , and bark trying to get it with ignoring the behaviors. Once he stops trying, give him
the tablet from the other hand. Repeat this training until he moves away from that when you say,

Once he do that and gives you eye contact, you re ready to take it up a notch. Use two different
treats 1 just all right and 2 with good smelling and tasty favorite for him.

The company that I am consulting is Simple Simon s Pecan Pie Factory. Simple Simon s has been

and ships its pies all over the world. Recently, I was contacted by the president of the company,
Simon Fair, to make recommendations on how to turn around the company s floundering

Competitors have used this fact to differentiate themselves from Simple Simon.
Simple Simon s current financial situation is tenuous. The company is producing 6,000 units per
month, but after all variable and fixed costs, they are losing $40/month. The company s labor costs
are extraordinarily high. The current labor cost is $23.33/unit, which is 72.9% of the $32 sales
price (See attached Table 1).
The production function of a firm relates the quantity of inputs to the quantity of outputs. For this
analysis, Simple Simon s production function is a linear function with labor as its only input.
Production functions can be short run or long run. In the short run, capital inputs like plant and
machinery are fixed and only variable inputs like labor and raw materials can be changed
(Production Functions, p.1). Depending on what stage of production the firm is in, the law of
diminishing returns affects the level of output. The law of diminishing returns states that as more
units of a variable input (i.e. labor) are added to fixed amounts of land and capital, the change in
total output will at first rise and then fall. Simple Simon is so under utilizing its labor that even if
the number of workers is doubled, there is still not a reduction in the level of output per unit of
labor.
There are several steps Simple Simon s should undertake to increase profitability. In the short run,
the company should reduce the cost of labor to $65

  • 2. The Lack of Creativity in the Yellow Wallpaper Lack of Creativity and Isolation in The Yellow Wallpaper In The Yellow Wallpaper, Charlotte Perkins Gilman presents an unnamed woman who gradually spirals into a state of mental psychosis. Gilman sought to bring attention to the unfair treatment of women in the nineteenth century. She uses this story to reveal to the audience that the narrator s insanity stems from her isolation from society, and her inability to be expressive and creative through writing. Throughout The Yellow Wallpaper , the narrator is locked away in an isolated room, which was supposed to cure her mental disorder but instead it makes her worse. With the windows barred and the doors locked she is secluded from society. She wishes to go visit her cousin Henry and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The work that she is referencing here is her writing, and she disagrees with her husband and brother s idea that she should not be writing. Instead, she believes that if she is permitted to work, or write, her condition would improve. Her opinions are not taken into consideration, thus she is obligated to write in secret. The first evidence that indicates that the narrator was driven to insanity due to lack of expression is when the narrator writes that [she] did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust [her] a good deal having to be so sly about it (Gilman 86). The narrator is intending to say that it is the hiding that is exhausting, not the writing itself. The narrator experiences considerable obstacles every time she attempts to express herself through writing. Every time she writes in her journal she has to stop herself when her husband arrives because, he hates to have [her] write a word (Gilman 87). The narrator even has to shield herself from her sister in law Jennie, There comes John s sister. Such a dear girl as she is, and so careful of me! I must not let her find me writing (Gilman 89). Jennie is in the house to look after her when her husband is gone, and she worries that if Jennie catches her writing she will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Marie Curie Marie Curie LIFE OF MARIE CURIE Marie Curie(1867 1934) was a French physicist with many accomplishments in both physics and chemistry. Marie and her husband Pierre, who was also a French physicist, are both famous for their work in radioactivity. Marie Curie, originally named Marja Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw, Poland on Nov.7, 1867. Her first learning of physics came from her father who taught it in high school. Marie s father must have taught his daughter well because in 1891, she went to Paris(where she changed her original name) and enrolled in the Sorbonne. Then two years later she passed the Examination for her physics degree ranking in first place. She met Pierre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Curie thus began studying uranium radiation and made it her doctoral thesis. With the aid of an electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time and influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the compounds of thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium pitchblende and the mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium content. She realized that unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present. Then in 1898 she drew the revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an unknown radiating element. Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries native country) and Radium. They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical properties could be determined. During the next four years, working in a leaky wooden shed, they processed a ton of pitchblende, laboriously isolating from it a fraction of a gram of radium. In 1903, ... • 4. Justice Antonin Scalia Case Analysis I have chosen to write my research paper on the late Justice Antonin Scalia. I wanted to know more about his legal philosophy of originalism and the legacy he left. I wanted to read on some of his landmark case rulings. I focused on one to include in my research paper. My thesis statement is as follows: Justice Antonin Scalia made no apologies for his legal philosophy of originalism, despite opposition from other justices and the public. Scalia believed that the United States Constitution should strictly be interpreted in terms of what the founding fathers had meant for it when the Constitution was written. Scalia s critics contended that the Constitution is a living document, therefore, it should allow the courts to take into consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One case I learned more about is Roe v. Wade. By reading and understanding this cases and the different opinions of the Justices, I would be able to better understand the case I chose for my term paper. I had chosen the case, Planned Parenthood v. Casey and how Antonin Scalia brought his view of originalism to this case. Furthermore, this lead me to read about Sandra Day O Connor, who changed the standards to the abortion laws. I was able to read a variety of articles and publications on Antonin Scalia and his childhood which helped me understand how his upbringing contributed to his viewpoints in his career life. A helpful publication I found interesting was, The Constitution in the Year 2000: Choices Ahead in Constitutional Interpretations. I was able to look for other policies from the Government website, in Washington, D.C. Although not all of these sources are included in the main content of my research paper, it gave me the insight, to understand the variables that contributed to who Antonin Scalia was and the opinions he held and why they differed from other Justices. I learned how Antonin Scalia was able to leave a lasting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Celtics viewed animals as symbols of herosim, strength, beauty, evil, death , omens, and almost everything else in their daily lives. For example the dog was viewed as a spiritual guardian to its owner, a friend, and a tool that was depended on at times. Today their role hasn t changed much and still symbolizes everything they did to the celtics. We have a great friendship bond with our dogs, and can trust them with our lives. They are our guardians when we are distracted, and guard our homes at night. The celtics used greyhounds as gifts, and I can understand why. Greyhound dogs are built athletic and speed. • 10. The National Plan Of Integrated Airport Systems The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) forever changed the way airports were classified when it was unveiled in 1982 (Wells, 2011). The aviation industry had grown significantly since deregulation went into effect, and a new system needed to be put in place that would distinguish airports with incredible growth and expansion from those that served niche markets or flight training (Wells). Under the NPIAS, airports were broken down into three major categories: commercial services airports, reliever airports, and general aviationairports (Wells). The following paragraphs describe the three categories of airports that were created by the NPIAS, and conclude with an airportthat fits into that particular category today. Commercial Services Airport When the general public thinks about airports, chances are they will imagine an airport that fits into this category. Commercial services airports are defined in our text as those airports that accommodate scheduled air carrier service, provided by the world s certificated air carriers (Wells). These are the airports that move passengers and cargo across the United States and the world. Commercial services airports are not created equal, however, which is why they are further broken down into different categories of hubs. However, for the rest of us, we will be over here working our butts off to make a change in our lives and working for said secrets of success. • 13. Chinese History And The Chinese Tradition Chinese history has witnessed the governing styles of many different dynasties throughout its history. Both the Tang and Yuan dynasties had expansionist ideologies, and both attempted to reallocate workload under their administrations. While the Tang government was focused on management and focused (specialization?) of tasks and services, the Yuan dynastywas less able to fully control its territory and people. The Yuan dynasty s shaky regime, when contrasted with the relative stability of the Tang, highlights their differences in focus and implementation of legislation. The Tang views on how to govern their large empire were steeped in Chinese tradition. They believed that the country was so large, one man could not hope to rule it (1). Thus, they should enfeoff their relatives and therefore disseminate power across the land so that no one man is too strong (2,3). In contrast, the Mongols believed that the vast territory that they had acquired needed to be divided by stark, strict lines. Ethnic and occupational divisions were cleaved within bureaucratic and social spheres (Governing China 53). These ideological differences highlight the source of these differences between dynasties: while the Tang was based in a rich native cultural history, the Yuan was a foreign power exacting influence in an unfamiliar region. This difference would color all other parts of the dynasties governance. The extent to which the Tang stretched in its prime could only be compared to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They seek to understand ways in which the people interact with one another and give shape to the society. They go beyond the general understandings in an attempt to provide answers or comprehend social happenings. Sociologists do not agree to accept something as a fact just because everybody knows it . They don t see society as we do. They continually question and study why certain things happen. Fact based questions give us the details on what, how and who. The next step is to question how often a particular thing happens, as in asking relative questions about the circumstance in different types of societies. There are two important kinds of questions asked in sociological research, which are empirical and theoretical questions. There is a particular way in which all research works are carried out. It starts with an issue. It is usually in the form of having little knowledge about the particular subject, knowledge gap or it is some kind of a puzzle. The next step once the identification of the problem is made, is to go through all existing relevant studies in an organized manner to identify potential visions or gaps. The third step is to narrow down the problem to make the hypothesis. When the research is at its end, it should either approve or dismiss the hypothesis. After the third step, the researchers must design the type of research they want to do. Then they must choose a method to successfully conduct the research. Carrying on research work is very circuitous, and is not direct at all. Problems regarding the morality of the questions, the permission or restriction to use certain information may arise. Also, understanding the information gathered and putting up the findings to the appropriate audience is also a challenge. Identifying the cause and effect can also be tricky. White Fang is an adventure fiction novel by Jack London, and it was published in May 1906 by Macmillan Publishers. It is a very gruesome novel that tells the story about wolves during the Klondike Gold Rush. Jack Londonwent to the gold rush and experienced the wild for himself, and he tells about it in this story along with a similar book The Call of the Wild. This book is important because it shows how violent the animals in the wild are and how cruel people can be. Due to London s writing style, White Fang is told in both third person limited and omniscient. He shifts his focus early on the story with two characters Hank and Bill to the main character White Fang later on; this helps the reader see from different points of view, even though Bill and Henry s story doesn t last long. The story takes place in the Canada, in the Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories, in the 1890 s. The story takes place during the Klondike Gold Rush, relating to London s experiences during the said gold rush. Bottom: An example XRD pattern for a sample point (Xue et al. 2016). Then the collected XRD patterns are organized and the underlying structures are found. Meaning that for each library there should be a small number of underlying XRD patterns, usually less than ten, such that every patternin the library can be reconstructed as a linear combination of these underlying patterns. These underlying patterns can then be used to interpret the crystal structure of each sample point, as well as give insights into the material properties of each sample point. These underlying XRD patterns are often called a phase. This signal de mixing of material systems is referred to as the phase mapping problem. Using traditional methods material scientists can process approximately ten XRD patterns per day, whereas sample points are generated on the order of thousands per day (Gregoire et al. 2009; 2014). Often, the strength of such convictions will lead one to act rashly, projecting one s views onto others due to one s emotional state. This rashness can lead to one making decisions that will harm both oneself and those around one. The rifts that are created as a result of such difficulties can lead to tension and differences between individuals for years to come. More often than not, one must find a way to be forgiven for what one has done, as only then can one obtain peace with others and oneself. In Ian McEwans Atonement, Briony Tallis s struggle on her path to understanding and correcting an injustice demonstrates the manner in which one can be forgiven, showing that in order to achieve forgiveness one must take the path to righting one s wrongdoings and admitting the truth of one s situation. To begin, the naГЇvety and distorted views of reality that Briony Tallis possess reveals her inability to understand the meaning of justice. Modern Heroes In Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Although when most hear the phrase modern hero they primarily imagine heroes from today s time; however, that does not mean ancient heroes, such as Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim, are unable to display the same traits as today s heroes. The most common traits among modern heroes consist of people who are capable of some sort of supernatural ability that separates them from everyone else, selflessness or generosity, and courageousness. These traits are portrayed by the main characters of both Dante s Inferno and Beowulf. Although they both demonstrate heroism, Beowulf is portrayed as more of a modern herothan Dante because he displays all three of the common characteristics of a modern hero while Dante only displays two of them. A key component ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf, being a war hero, displays his courage every time he goes to fight a monster whether it be Grendel or the dragon. Beowulf s willingness to go into battle against creatures that could potentially kill him is not something most would do especially to the extent that he does. For example, before the battle with the dragon Beowulf tells his men at arms to remain here on the barrow, safe in your armor. . . this fight is not yours (Beowulf 2529 2533). Beowulf is telling his men to stay back while he fights the dragon alone, that takes a tremendous amount of bravery to go against a fire breathing dragon alone with no back up. This fearless attitude that Beowulf has is not shared with Dante. Dante throughout the Inferno is shown to faint on multiple occasion due to his fear and shock. For instance, after Dante hears Charon speak in Canto III of the Inferno the twilight country shook so violently, the terror of it bathes me with sweat even in memory. . . like one whom sleep comes over in a swoon, I stumbled into the darkness and went down (Inferno 3. 127 130). So, in other words, when Dante is over come with fear or anxiety he passes out and is unable to act. That does not display courageousness, but instead it shows his weakness of being unable to control his fear. Imagine if Beowulf acted in a similar manner when facing up against the dragon. He would have not been able to defeat the dragon and the people of city would have continued to be terrorized by the dragon. This lack of courage displayed by Dante is what sets him apart from Beowulf and prevents him from being a true modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Dr. Joseph Lifschutz s Case Essay I. Facts of the Case: Dr. Joseph Lifschutz was a practicing psychiatrist in California and sought a writ of habeas corpus to be released from custody in the county of San Mateo California. Dr. Lifschutz was found in contempt of court and was arrested for refusing to obey an order of the San Mateo court ordering his release of records relating to him and one of his patients. Dr. Lifscutz did not follow the order because he believed the order from the court was unconstitutional, violating his constitutional right to privacy. Joseph Housek had been a patient of Dr. Lifscutz for around six months. As a result of being assaulted, he sued his assailant. In an attempt to discredit the case, the defense wanted information to try to prove the plaintiff was not competent. Lifschutz refused to give up client records. According to Stanford Law, He also attacks the order, or more specifically, the statutory provisions which authorize the compulsion of his testimony in these circumstances, as unconstitutionally denying him the equal protection of the laws since, under California law, clergymen could not be compelled to reveal certain confidential communications under these circumstances. Defendant Arabian deposed the plaintiff and during the course of that deposition Housek stated that he had received psychiatric treatment from Dr. Lifschutz over a six month period approximately 10 years earlier. The People Of France And The National Assembly The people of France have endured many hardships as the result of several conflicting ideas being proposed about the National Assembly, our governing body, and its effectiveness in ruling our great nation. The people of France want structure, they want a sound government who will do right by them and will save them from starving with food and order. As our great Nation continues this struggle for power in the National Assembly, more and more rebellions have come to light. Just yesterday it was announced in the town s square the Feuillants have split from the Jacobins out of fear. Fear of what the Jacobins are going to do now that the king has fled his home and the people he governed. They claim the Jacobins are to blood thirst and will continue to seek out the lives of those who oppose them. The Feuillants were also afraid of the Jacobins who wanted to replace the king with another leader. Who knows what the new leader will be like? How can we trust them to know what is good for us? If the Jacobins want to replace our king then what else would they see changed? Will we see the loss of private property? These drastic ideas upset us for they do not hold certainty. Further in the future we will see that the Feuillants were correct in their decision to serve ties with the radical hungry Jacobins. Having gained the ability to hold riots of their own from the good people of France the Jacobins return favor by executing the surviving Conservatives. I agree with the Jacobins change ... We are ruthless by lacking proper appreciation for, being separated from, and abusing nature. Man lacks proper gratitude for nature. People often are blind to nature s great beauty. Moreover, studies conducted by the World Health Organization suggest that exposure to violent behavior can have detrimental impacts that can affect the physical, mental, and emotional health of a woman or girl; some instances of extreme violence also lead to death. Due to the epidemic of gender based homicides, the term femicide became apparent. The term femicide was coined by a woman named Carol Orlock, but was later defined in 2001 by an expert on violence against women and girls, Diana E. H. Russell. Femicide, as Diana defines it, is the killing of females by males because they are female . Presented by the World Health Organization, the main types and prevalence of femicide are intimate femicide, murders in the name of honor , dowry related femicide, and non intimate femicide (Garcia Moreno, Guedes and Knerr, 2012; 1 2). • 46. The Negative Effects Of Media In The Media In today s modern social and public media children can come across many different forms of unwanted profanity and bad practices. As this becomes more and more prevalent children are slowly becoming more and more accustomed to hearing and seeing profane things. Children are being impacted in a negative way when crossing negative and profane media. This media can lead to children developing a sense of fear, lack of respect towards their piers and others around them, and a desensitizing of emotions and thoughts. These days its pretty hard not to come across content in media that can be offensive and or profane. This is partly due to the fact that movie and media rating companies are becoming more and more lenient with what content is considered non profane and what is. For example, Kimberly M. Thompson and Fumie Yokota found in their research of the correlation between movie rating and profanityand violence saying, The MPAA mentioned alcohol or drugs in its rating reason for 18% of films, while Screen It! assigned a score above none for tobacco and/or alcohol/drugs for 95% of films and above none for alcohol/drugs for 93%... This shows that more and more movies and shows are staring to include this profane content and are still being classified as PG or PG 13. Another study referenced in Chandra Johnson s article about Kids and swear words: Can profanity in media hurt? referenced a study by VidAngle saying, from the first swear word on film (1939 s Gone with the Wind ) to 2013 s The Wolf of Wall Street, which holds the record with 798 swearwords an increase of 500 percent over 74 years.... This shows that swear words and profanity are being included more and more in movies and media. We instead need to include versions of movies that are censored and child family friendly. Having this decrease in profanity standards means that children are going to be exposed to profanity at a much faster rate. This will increase the rate at which children are affected and can lead to the negative affects listed above. Having children become fearful, disrespectful, and desensitized when it comes to emotion will lead to social and economic issues later down in their lives. For example, Rupal Patel (a child ... Symbols are something in the poem that stands for something else. There are various symbols in Birches. In Birches, Frost talks about how he can view birchtrees in winter that have bent branches. He says he hopes that they are bent because of some boy swinging on them, because he knows that when a child swings on birch tree branches, the branches do not stay bent forever because a child is not heavy enough to permanently bend the branches. The public would not know of this agreement until the end of 1917, only three weeks after the Balfour Declaration, a letter granting royal British support for the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, was issued. Suspicion grew between Arabs, Jews, and the British. In 1920, two years after the end of WWI, the area which used to be the Ottoman empire was split into mandates, giving the British control over Palestine. During the 1930s the Nazis gained power in Germany, leading to big waves of Jewish immigration to Palestine, especially during times of Jewish persecution between 1933 and 1945. This period was marked by Palestinian uprisings against the British Mandate, and after the Second World War had commenced in 1939 also by Jewish resistance to the British. In 1947, two years after the Nazis had been defeated and WWII had ended, the British government handed the issue of the Palestinian future, which had seen Jewish mass migration during and after the war, to the United Nations, which voted the partition of Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Despite Israeli attacks on Palestinian villages in early 1948, the British ended their mandate over Palestine on May 14th, now celebrated by Israelis as Independence Day, by Palestinians lamented as Nakba (catastrophe). On May 15, the first Israeli Arab war began, including several members of the Arab League. The following year over 700,000 Palestinians had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Hero s Journey Of Michael Phelps The hero s journey cycle has to begin somewhere, and that is at the hero s home in the ordinary world. Everything is normal and familiar. Just like for young Michael Phelps, a boy who started swimming at the age of 7 and dreamed of doing big things. He would always go to practice even on holidays and was always very competitive at everything. (Citing somewhere) Even at a young age there was something special about him, something that made his mentor, coach, and good friend Bob Bowman believe he was olympic material when he started coaching Michael when he was 11 (Citing). He was right, because Phelps call to adventure was when he went to his first Olympics in the 2000 Sydney Games at 15 years old. He was the youngest american male swimmer ... • 55. Operation Decisions ASSIGNMENT 1: OPERATIONS DECISION2 The company that I am consulting is Simple Simon s Pecan Pie Factory. Simple Simon s has been producing pecan pies for thirty years and is an established and well recognized competitor in the gourmet pie market. The company has two manufacturing plants in Tifton, GA and Charleston, SC, and ships its pies all over the world. Recently, I was contacted by the president of the company, Simon Fair, to make recommendations on how to turn around the company s floundering operations. Over the last three years, Simple Simon has seen its market share fall and its revenue decline 15% each year. There have been several competitors that have entered the market within the last five years that have taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competitors have used this fact to differentiate themselves from Simple Simon. Simple Simon s current financial situation is tenuous. The company is producing 6,000 units per month, but after all variable and fixed costs, they are losing $40/month. The company s labor costs are extraordinarily high. The current labor cost is $23.33/unit, which is 72.9% of the $32 sales price (See attached Table 1). The production function of a firm relates the quantity of inputs to the quantity of outputs. For this analysis, Simple Simon s production function is a linear function with labor as its only input. Production functions can be short run or long run. In the short run, capital inputs like plant and machinery are fixed and only variable inputs like labor and raw materials can be changed (Production Functions, p.1). Depending on what stage of production the firm is in, the law of diminishing returns affects the level of output. The law of diminishing returns states that as more units of a variable input (i.e. labor) are added to fixed amounts of land and capital, the change in total output will at first rise and then fall. Simple Simon is so under utilizing its labor that even if the number of workers is doubled, there is still not a reduction in the level of output per unit of labor. There are several steps Simple Simon s should undertake to increase profitability. In the short run, the company should reduce the cost of labor to $65 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
