Comparing Two Newspaper Article Analysis
The reporting and presentation of the same news incident in different newspapers are very different.
This essay will analyze the articles about the association between concussion and suicidal risk. The
Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail present the same story with several differences between them.
Most importantly, we will further analyze some implications of these differences, namely in the
appearance, language, and the content.
Firstly, we will analyze the differences in the appearance of these two newspaper articles, namely
The Globe and Mail Concussion raise suicide risk, study says and Toronto Star Concussions linked
to suicide risk . Regarding layout, The Toronto Stararticle is presented in multiple columns. The

Toronto Star presents Dr. Donald Redelmeier as an Internal medicine specialist and senior
scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto . His research is well supported by Dr.
Anthony Phillips, scientific director of neurosciences for the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research. The data in Toronto Star are more numeric for example; weekend injuries accounted
four times the population norm in comparing to three times the population norm of the weekday
injuries. This gives the authenticity of the statistical data. In addition, The Toronto Star mentions
both men and women were equally affected by suicide and, about 80 per cent patients had seen
doctors in the month previous to suicide. The Toronto Star article concludes the story focusing
the importance of the awareness program to both public health and practicing physicians. On the
other hand, The Globe and Mail introduce Dr. Donald Redelmeier as a senior author and senior
core scientist at Toronto s Institute for Clinical Evaluative sciences . The Globe and Mail discuss
another research by Dr. Gabriela Ilie who relates the concussion to a number of the serious
problem including an increased risk of suicide. In contrast, to the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail
state more than half of the individuals committed suicide after concussion were a man and, half of
those who committed suicide had seen a doctor in the last week before the suicide. Towards the

Christian Worldview Origin
Introduction This critical thinking paper will address five question pertaining to origin, identity
both meaning and purpose, morality and destiny. In congruently a comparison between the Hindus,
and the Christian worldviews. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the
word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1, KJV). These are foundational words from
the Christian Bible, and the Christian worldview. A posed to, Hinduism, which has no founder, yet
many natives in India is faithful to it beliefs.
Hinduism: Origin The Hindus say that Brahma is the first god in the Hindu triumvirate, or
trimurti. The triumvirate consists of three gods who are responsible for the creation, upkeep and
destruction of the world (Who is Brahma, 2009). The origin of Hinduism is recorded as early as
1500 B.C. in India. It is said that Hinduism is a polytheistic and ritualistic religion that requires
strict meditation and obedience.
How Did Life Begin.
Hinduism says that the Lord Brahma is creator of the universe, while the other two gods are part
of the triumvirate. The worldview of the Hindu belief is that there are multiple gods. One god,
Brahma created the universe, another, Vishnu is the sustainer of creation, and Shiva is the
destroyer of life. In contrast, Christianity worldview is there is one triune God, God the Father,

better than beasts (Who is Brahma, 2009). In comparison, the Christian worldview is that we
have been given dominion over all the animals on the earth, and the herbs of the field is our meat

The Themes And Comparison Of The Uncle Remus Tales
Uncle Remus Stories After the series of stories, The Uncle Remus Tales by Joel Chandler Harris
were published it impacted the world. These stories were a Literary Awakening. They brought a
different and unique style and theme to the world. There a many reasons why the controversy of
these stories began. These days, it is believed the tales are racist and it is not frequent to find people
who read them. When the stories were first published people enjoyed these stories but eventually
arguments about the stories kept coming up until most of the people stopped reading them. The
different theme and style made many authors change the way they think of writingand it made a
change in literature. These stories impose themes and styles that not... Show more content on

Although the dialect that Joel Chandler Harris uses is kind of hard to understand, it portrays a
unique form of writing in the sense that you write the way you speak. In the stories, the white
boy s dialogue is written in a different way from the black people s dialogue. For example, the
white boy s dialogue is Didn t the fox never catch the rabbit, Uncle Remus? asked the little boy
the next evening compared to the black people s dialogue which is `Mawnin ! sez Brer Rabbit,
sezee `nice wedder dis mawnin , sezee. The difference of these quotes can instantly be seen
because the Black s dialogue is written in Black English. In other words, Harris wrote the way the
Black from the plantation he visited, the ones who inspired the stories. United Statesian students
should be exposed and taught about the Uncle Remus s stories in schools because they enforce
and teach different styles of writing. At the same time, it teaches that not only can you write
stories in dialect but also that Standard English is not the only way to write. If Joel Chandler
Harris had not written the stories in dialect the stories would have been seen from a whole different
perspective. The style of writing can show many different things that may not always be seen in

The Fall Of The Pantheon In The Roman Culture
During the Roman Empire, the Pantheon was built in the years of 117 125. The Pantheon

Corinthian columns in the entrance leads to a large domed centered room. Within the room is
statues of Roman gods separated with more Corinthian columns. The domed roof of the Pantheon
is specialized because of the oculus in the center. The hole was created as a release of tension and
distributes the weight across the ring. The oculus lets in water when the weather rains, so the
architects designed the floors to distribute the water out of the building. During the fall of Rome,

Essay on Nurses Must be Aware of Religious and Cultural...
Nursing requires a tremendous amount of care both physically and psychosocially. Besides having
a well rounded medical knowledge, it is important for nurses to be aware of religious and cultural
practices that are utilized in the world today. There is a multiplicity of different religious
backgrounds and gaining knowledge on their differences and important traditions will allow nurses
to provide competent care. In the Jewish faith, deathis seen as a natural process, one with many
unique traditions that give friends and family the opportunity to spend time with the deceased.

The Shiva ritual will last seven days for the mourners, during which time they are without shoes,
and will sit on low stools, or the floor. They will not shave, go to work, bathe, have sex, eat meat,
and will remain in the original clothes they tore in the first phase at the time of death. At the end of
these seven days, the mourners begin a 30 day period, known as shloshim, in which they will not
attend social gatherings. If they are mourning a parent s death, traditionally, shloshim is extended
and will last the length of one year (Rich, 1996). In contrast to the Jewish faith, where tradition and
rituals focus on ceremonies that are held with the body kept as is, the Hindu religion actually favors
cremation in death. After death, Hindus see cremation as the accepted way to sacrifice the
deceased to God. Cremation is the favorable way to dispose of the body, as Hindus believe that
the body has no purpose after death. Hindu funerals are extremely important ceremonies that will
last for days after death. Typically, there is a lead mourner, who is generally the eldest son of the
deceased who plays a crucial role in performing all the funeral rites (Gupta, 2011). As the rituals
begin, the body will be placed on a bier, which is carried to the placed of cremation. Upon arrival,
the disposal ceremony begins which is led by a priest and the body is removed from the bier by
placing it in a river.

Literature Review on Corporate Culture
Management Literature Review
During the 1980s the concept of corporate culture captured the imagination of management
researchers and practitioners alike. In particular, Peters and Waterman s (1982) book entitled In
Search of Excellence: Lessons from America s Best Run Companies proclaimed that the key to
corporate success was a strongly unified corporate culture. Wilson (1996:87)
Corporate culture has always been a part of every business since it was first introduced in the 1980
s. It doesn t matter if it s a small business or a massive company, corporate culture will always
have an involvement. Corporate culture is very hard to define as one particular meaning, due to the
various areas it covers. Glaser (1991:6) stated ...the folk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Blair Witch Project
Semiotic Analysis on Blair Witch Project Blair Witch Project is regarded the first of its time, a
horror film in a documentary style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase
in the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of
different genres, especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long
being characterized by the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters,
ghosts, demons and madmen or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most
horror movies were developing in many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the
supernatural characters and scenes. Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using
mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the
1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through
innovation, in the filmindustry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole
new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced in 1999, has had an incredible impact and
influence, which very few films have had over the years. It is arguably among the scariest and most
frightening horror filmto date. It is a one of a kind on the basis that it being a horror film, it does
not possess the characteristics of generally known horror movies. Throughout the whole film, we

The Rosewood Hotels Resorts
The Rosewood Hotels Resorts is a private hotel management company founded in Dallas, Texas by
Caroline Rose Hunt Trust Estate in 1979. The company had been adopting an individual branding
positioning strategy, for which it managed a collection of hotels across continents under individual
property names. This positioning strategy had helped differentiate Rosewood from corporate chain
like competitors in the same industry. Prior to 2003, Rosewoods focused mainly on acquiring and
renovating properties, building 12 unique and distinctive hotels globally. This strategy proved
successful, despite the fact that the John Scott, the company s CEO and Robert Boulogne, the COO
were concerned that the company was missing out the opportunity for potential growth in brand
recognition. However, after 25 years of operation, in the year of 2004, the company encountered
some business challenges that became barriers in raising brand awareness and customer retentions.
Issue Statement
Rosewood s individual brand strategy was consistent with their brand concept: A sense of Place ,
which was the underlying standards Rosewood capitalized upon when developing their properties.
This concept implies that each hotel needed to be tailored in a way such that the unique features
and characteristics of a specific location were emphasized and prominent, in respect of interior
designs, services and amenities. This positioning strategy was sufficient to generating considerable
revenues for the company,

The Effects Of Ice On The Australian Government
Purpose:
It has been widely published within the Australian media that there is currently an ice epidemic and
the Australian Government has established a national Ice Taskforce in response to the drug
problem the country is facing (Australian Government 2015). Ice is also known as crystal
methamphetamine and comes in a translucent or white crystal or crystalline powder (Buxton Dove,
2008). The illicit drug can be smoked, snorted, injected or swallowed and is the most potent form of
methamphetamine because of its high purity (Buxton Dove, 2008). Methamphetamine is an
extremely addictive psycho stimulant that affects the brain and central nervous system, resulting in
the release of high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine into areas of the brain that regulate
feelings of pleasure (Caplan, 2008). Other types of methamphetamine include speed and base which
are lower in purity then crystal methamphetamine which results in ice having worse side effects and
a higher likelihood of addiction (Lewis, 2008). The consequences of ice use encompass all
components of life including health, social and economic. This briefing paper aims to determine
the extent of crystal methamphetamine usage in Australia and particularly Queensland. The paper
will also discuss and develop recommendations on drug policy intervention that will best combat ice
usage and ultimately prevent future illicit drug use as well as minimise the harm caused to drug
users and the community. Summary of

Todays Social And Economic Inequality Is A Matter People
Todays social and economic inequality is a matter people are faced with in their daily lives.
Many Americans are currently unable to reach their full potential due to the lack of financial
stability in the work force, and are incapable of providing stable income for their dependents.
Krugman, like many Americans, believes that change is the only way to help close the ever
growing gap between upper class Americans and those who are middle classor below povertylevel.
In Krugman s essay Confronting Inequality he addresses the need for change, and has several
concepts for how to bring about equality. I agree with several of Krugman s key ideas in his essay
such as; higher taxes on the rich, raising the minimum wage, and unions.... Show more content on

On the contrary, most now wealthy Americans are living off of money that was given to them
from their parents and grandparents. The argument that the upper class citizens are not paying
enough in taxes, although a matter of opinion, should be reconsidered when looking at how
much the rich avoid paying in taxes when using loopholes. Although it may seem as if they pay
a lot in taxes, they are avoiding a large portion of what they would have to pay normally with the
use of the loopholes. Another key idea of Krugman s to solving inequality is to raise the
minimum wage. I agree with Krugman that the minimum wage should be increased, but it
should not go up to the extent that it would cause extreme job losses. If the minimum wage was
raised two or three dollars without the loss of jobs, many middle class Americans could possibly
live a more comfortable lifestyle. The minimum wage should be the minimum amount of money
needed to live off of. So many middle class Americans, and Americans below poverty level
struggle to live off of a minimum wage salary now. Krugman mentions in his essay, the
minimum wage, however, matters mainly to low paid workers (575). Raising minimum wage
even a little would aid some people in paying for their necessities. Some people are forced to stay
in minimum wage jobs for either their entire lives or the majority of their lives because they
cannot move up in that field or do not have a degree. A large number of Americans working

We Need A Major Change On The Earth s Atmosphere
It is a known fact that we as a society are having a major affect on the earth s atmosphere. Since
the Industrial Revolution technologies have advanced and a lot of our means of energy give
off harmful pollution. Mass production has allowed the number of cars in production to grow
exponentially, and the increasing population is keeping them in demand. Pollution is at an all
time high now and continues to get worse with the growing populations. More and more people
are driving vehicles and able to afford their own transportation, which has really driven the
amount of pollution in the atmosphere up over the past century. Emissions from our vehicles
make up about twenty percent of the global warming pollution. This poses a real threat to our
environment that needs to be changed. I am not saying that is it bad to drive cars or that people
should go on a strike from driving. All I am saying is that we need a major change in our current
thinking and process. We are battling the effects and concerns of vehicle emissions everyday,
and the change is not happening as fast as it should be going. In order for change to take effect
there is going to need to be support from everyone. One way that the majority of us can help in
this epidemic is by making more environmentally conscious choices. Choosing a cleaner and more
efficient fuel option for our vehicles can make loads of difference if everyone joins in, and create
plenty of positive externalities that everyone can enjoy. Air

Eight Imperatives Strategies
This research formulates a conceptual model of IT governance based on the previous result on
organizational culture profiles. This model employs Eight Imperatives strategies to design tactical
plans to be applied in governing IT. Hence, it is recommended as a reference for organization
leaders in strategic vision development, project execution, and new policy formulations. The Eight
Imperatives strategies are:
1.Imperative 1: focus on how IT can reshape work and public sector strategies
The strategy functions as a problem solving tool of members performance towards IT/IS in current
organizational culture. Some of the problems involve lack of comprehension by members of their
duties in IT/IS management and innovation, also non optimal implementation of IT/IS
infrastructures. Accordingly, it is essential for organization leaders to develop enhanced
communication with their members by support from adequate IT system, ... Show more content on

Organizations need to design a strategy that allows the members in this case; the rector, lecturers,
university staffs, and students to have private and secure access to information. During observation
on the research site, it is assumed that the organization have implemented this strategy
appropriately. Yet, further planning on privacy and security matters is critical to embrace
forthcoming challenges.

1. What are the benefits of Kimpton s environmental sustainability initiatives? What are its costs?
Kimpton s environmental sustainability initiatives have proven successful and beneficial both in

That is, what is the business case for this program? The top executives considered this program for

to maintain the care integrity, and uniqueness that customers had come to associate with its chain
of boutique hotels. Kimpton wants their impact to be felt all over, where this program can
influence other hotels to start an environmental initiative. Also, the EarthCare program is willing to

How Relationships Can Be Complicated, And They Do Not Come...
Relationships can be complicated, and they do not come with a learner s manual. I never thought
about the distribution of power in relationships. I assumed if I invested in the relationship, showed
empathy to my partner s needs, and was genuinely concerned with their well being, then I held
power in the relationship. The Principle of least interest put things into a new perspective for me.
The ability to communicate the affections of loveseparates us from other beings. However; love,
especially an unhealthy love, can leave us in a defenseless state. The beginning of a relationship
is exhilarating and stimulating, but there is no reassurance or intimacy. When I put my all into a
relationship and there is no effort from my partner, I have surrounded power over the
relationship. I was nineteen years old, and infatuated with my now ex boyfriend. I was
inexperienced with relationships, and wanted someone attentive to my needs. He awarded me
with attention, and I had faith he saw something unique in myself. Reflecting back on the
relationship, I realized the love I had for him was never sufficient enough. He blatantly looked at
other women when we were out together. I tend to not be a jealous person, but it hurt my ego and
pride when my endeavors to look nice went unnoticed. My mother has often asked why I stayed
with him, and I never know how to answer the question. I enabled him to treat me the way he did
by investing my own identity and self worth into his approval. He took

Essay On Food In American Culture
Culture of food in Israel and Palestine
This quote illustrates national identity and ethnicity through food, Tell me what you eat, and I ll
tell you who you are Brillat Savarin in 1825. Food can showcase a lot about a nation and its
people because culture and food, creates unity in a nation. In the case of Israel the Zionist
organization used food as a tool to create a sense of identity and nationalism for the people of
Israel by encouraging consumption of Kosher and Israeli produced foods. Israel like the United
States, is an immigrant nation; so naturally many different foods and recipes are brought with the
new immigrants from the countries they came from Europe to Africa. It s great to see, how food is
used to unite a nation as one. Whilst, Palestinian cuisine is interrelated to the foods of the Arab
regions around it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you look at Palestine and Israel regionally, you will get of course like all countries
different regional cuisine. The article Falafel: A National Icon , discusses start of falafel
becoming a national icon for Israel; for instance when the first Jewish immigrants moved to the
Middle East, because they wanted to adapt to the new land and become local, they began to pick
up the Arab food like hummus and falafel which is very prevalent in Israeli cuisine today. It is an
interesting issue to look at when nations argue over the origin of certain foods, like in the article,
Hummus Wars , which takes about the conflict over hummus between Lebanon and Israel,
although the same argument does occur with Palestine as well but to say that a certain dish
belongs to one place over another is somewhat absurd; that would be like Italy arguing with New
York over pizza. As long as people travel around so will food. When you look at food and try to
understand, what makes a dish a

Californian Sea Lions have roamed the docks of San Francisco, California for over 25 years

Sea Lions began hauling out on Pier 39 s K Dock; and by January of 1890, the K Dock was

Walt Disney s Influence On The Entertainment Industry
Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a
whole new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he
pushed on and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney s way
such as unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating,
working hard, and persevering to accomplish his dream. Walter Elias Disney was born on
December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Elias, was a carpenter when Walt was born.
Eventually, Elias and his wife, Flora, saved up enough money to start a home building company
together. Walter had four siblings: Roy, Herbert, Raymond, and Ruth (Russell 9). Because Ruth
was younger than Walt, Walt waited until the age of seven to start school so that he could start
at the same time as Ruth. Before he went to school, his mother, Flora, taught him how to read
(Russell 10). Walt grew up on the Disney family farm and worked hard on the farm. He worked
at the neighbor s farm raising corn, wheat, barley, cows, pigs, and chickens (Giltin 18). Later,
Elias grew sick, and the Disney s had to sell the farm. They moved to Kansas City (Russell 11).
Throughout Walter s schooling, he loved to be on stage directing, producing, and being on stage
(Russell 11). Many things inspired Walt Disney s creativity: moving, roaming, playing in the

What is Patent and Copyright Laws ?
In effort to save/protect the innovators and rewards them all the countries around the world has
some or other form of patent. Some places the law gives one the ability to patent anything he/she

further and added a term (time) for which one can own the patent and different country has different
regulations about this.

basic differences between copyrights and patents: a copyright deals with a particular work,
usually a written work and it has to do with the details of that work. Ideas are completely excluded

Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay
A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social restraint and inner
compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this.
Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner compulsion,
Melville and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal desires as they struggle to
find a balance between conflicting values and social norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the
Dog are restrained by the socially expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to
express their inner compulsion of desire. Chekov reveals their yearning to escape their individual
lives as they cope with personal troubles by distancing themselves from marriage ... Show more

He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous
statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a
world where preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an
individual has the right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints,
defying all forms of society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires.
Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady
with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as
this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned
with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable
to be free from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears
to be fending off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their
love. The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely
further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the
most illuminating aspect of this passage. Even what is considered as the lowest form of humanity,
appears to show more freedom then what they can as they cannot pass this

Causes Of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility Essay
Causes of Twenty First Century Stock Market Volatility based on the Introduction of the Internet
and Day Trading Since the late 1980 s the United States has observed several housing market
bubbles and subsequent collapses (Calabria 2011, p. 552). Also, the country has also observed a
profound increase in the trading of technologies stock (Sabherwal, Sarkar, and Zhang, 2011, p.
1210). In addition, the development of day trading has taken control of nearly half of the stock
trading industry (Chou, Wang, and Wang, 2014, p. 403). As a result, the traditional methods of
company share value evaluation no longer provide an accurate estimate of company value
(Rosenblatt and Gawronski, 2004, p. 118). The introduction of twenty first century technologies and
stock trading opportunities have created an increasingly volatile stock marketdue to the usage of the
internet for day trading.
Background
From 1990 to 2010 several factors contributed to the volatility of stock trading. The housing booms
of the late 1980 s, late 1990 s and early 2000 s demonstrated that an inelasticity in housing supply
coupled with a large increase in technologies and securities stock trading creates an unstable market
which results in a housing bubble collapse (Calabria, 2011, p. 556). Second, the introduction of the
internet resulted in 24 hour trading opportunities with open to open pricing often reflecting much
more volatile price deviation than close to close pricing, which had remained a neutral

Edward was very close with his stepmother, Katherine Parr, Elizabeth, his sister, and Mary, his

ruler of England. Lady Jane Grey was made queen but only ruled for nine days. She is also

Each group of people still practices rituals of exorcism, and although there are some differences
between each practice, there are more similarities than variations. There is a sense of importance in
the very fact that exorcism and possession practices are still happening in the present day in
America and India, and they are strongly linked together despite rarely being a part of mainstream

In an online article from the Catholic Education Resource Center, author Paul Burnell interviews
exorcist Father James LeBar, who explains that people suffer the phenomena without actually
being possessed. An exorcism is primarily used for people who are possessed by the devil.
Burnell also interviews psychologist Father John Hampsch who credits the recent rise in people
claiming to be possessed to their involvement in the occult, with practices such as Ouija board or
tarot cards or some kind of New Age practice. The other form is through some kind of sin
addiction such as alcohol, drugs or pornography. For Catholics, there has been an increasing amount
of claims to possession, while priests have at the same time emphasized their doubts that most of
these possessions are worthy of actual exorcisms.
Within the Catholic community, there has been a change in the exorcism ritual in the past several

The Success Of The Goal
The targets supporting the achievement of the goal can be measured, are indeed being measured
but fail to provide built in incentives or sanctions should these targets not be met or fulfilled.
The idea is to put a stop to deforestation, restore land and water ecosystems, protect the planet s
biodiversity and various species. Key to the success of the goal is the target to significantly
increase financial resources to support conservation, sustainable development and ensure
equitable sharing and access to resources. Although these targets can be measured, the accuracy
of the data can be called into question because government sources are not always the most
trustworthy. Some geographical areas of the world have shown to have skewed the facts ( Spot
the Rancher ). The failure of the Kyoto accord and the Canadian tar sands illuminate the uphill
battle the UN faces in attaining their goal. As long as elected officials choose to favour economic
growth and profit over sustainable development and equality the goal will not be achieved and the
targets are irrelevant. The targets are measurable. Organizations such as the World Resources
Institute have been working to create an international forest watch. With the use of satellites and
technology that provides new ways of detecting deforestation patterns, forests can be far more
easily monitored an analyzed. This gives governments an ability to police their forests and allows
them to be alerted when certain areas are in danger

A Child With Down Syndrome
Piaget believed that children went through stages of development at specific times. Child
development is the biological and psychological changes that occur in human beings between birth
and adolescence. Typical development refers to the milestones that a child reaches at a particular
time during child development. Atypical development refers to not typical; not conforming to the
type; irregular; abnormal: atypical behavior. Down syndromeis characterized as a chromosomal
condition in which an individual possesses extra genetic material, specifically an extra complete or
partial duplicate of chromosome 21 in some or all of an individual s cells. During the
developmental stages, a child with Down syndrome will experience developmental delays in the
areas of motor development, cognitive development, language development, and social and
emotional development. Down syndrome is identified at birth and is a common condition.
Characteristics of Down Syndrome Children with Down syndrome have physical characteristics
that resemble a family member. A child with Down syndrome may have a face that is slightly
broader with a flatter nasal bridge. The eyes may slant upward and appear to have a small fold
of skin on the inner corners called epicanthal folds. The mouth may be small which may cause the
tongue to appear large and protrude due to poor muscle tone. The ears are small and their hands

Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Summary
Effective Thinking: Becoming a Critical Thinker Students in today s academic world are simply
lazy. Who has time to sit down and critically analyze what is needed to be studied when there are
better things to do? In Freire s The Banking Concept of Education, he delineates the concept of how
students today are considered banking concept thinkers rather than where they should be, which is
problem posing thinking. Ultimately, Freire s argument helps recognize how to transform oneself
into becoming a critical thinker. Both the banking concept student and the problem posing student
have completely distinctive factors about them. The banking concept student in term is emphasizes
that students are passive absorbers of information and that the purpose of learningis memorization of
facts. This reinforces a lack of critical thinking and knowledge ownership in students, which in turn
reinforces oppression. One possible alternative is the Problem posing educationmodel, in which
students are encouraged to think and tackle problems presented to them on their own. Problem
posing education solves the student teacher contradiction by recognizing that knowledge is not
deposited from one to another, but is instead formulated through dialogue between the two. As
illustrated in Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, his image of the average student is categorized
into two parts: the banking concept student, and the problem posing student. Freire believes that
most students are part of the

Susan is David, the next door neighbor. One day Megan goes to the police and as punishment
she is put in the cellar and is hung from the rafters. They all play this game of confession with
her. Since she does not play along with the game they strip her, blindfold her, and put a gag in
her mouth. Ruth invites all of the kids in the neighborhood to the cellar so they can burn, beat
and cut her for their own amusement. The next day Megan gets raped by her cousin Willie
while everyone watched. David tried to leave, but was forced to watch. Ruth heats up a needle
and carves I fuck, fuck me on to Megan s stomach. Ruth decides in order for Megan to never
want to be with a guy and for no guy to want her she needs to give Megan a clitorectomy with a
blowtorch. Megan died from all the injuries caused by Ruth. The next morning David starts a
fire in the cellar to get people s attention. Ruth sees that there is a fire and goes in to the cellar.
David then beats Ruth until she s dead with a crutch. A police officer arrived and took Susan to
go get help. The end shows Willie and Donny being arrested. Willie s personality is just like Ruth
s. He is taught and shown how to disregard woman and to take everything from them. Since he is
taught and shown this behavior he thinks it is acceptable to cause harm to another human being.
He has the personality trait of being malicious. His sole being in the movie is to cause harm to
Megan and Susan and to make their life as unpleasant as possible. Willie was in the adolescence
stage in the movie which means he was forming his own identity and seeking independence. This
is illustrated when Willie is not told to act in such way towards his cousin, but does anyway. He is
forming his own decisions that are not based off of anyone around him

The difference of these quotes can instantly be seen because the Black s dialogue is written in Black English. In other words, Harris wrote the way the Black from the plantation he visited, the ones who inspired the stories. United Statesian students should be exposed and taught about the Uncle Remus s stories in schools because they enforce and teach different styles of writing. Besides having a well rounded medical knowledge, it is important for nurses to be aware of religious and cultural practices that are utilized in the world today. There is a multiplicity of different religious backgrounds and gaining knowledge on their differences and important traditions will allow nurses to provide competent care. In the Jewish faith, deathis seen as a natural process, one with many unique traditions that give friends and family the opportunity to spend time with the deceased. When death occurs, and Jewish rituals begin, the body is never left alone, as mourners will focus on showing respect for the dead and consolation for the living.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Shiva ritual will last seven days for the mourners, during which time they are without shoes, and will sit on low stools, or the floor. They will not shave, go to work, bathe, have sex, eat meat, and will remain in the original clothes they tore in the first phase at the time of death. At the end of these seven days, the mourners begin a 30 day period, known as shloshim, in which they will not attend social gatherings. If they are mourning a parent s death, traditionally, shloshim is extended and will last the length of one year (Rich, 1996). In contrast to the Jewish faith, where tradition and rituals focus on ceremonies that are held with the body kept as is, the Hindu religion actually favors cremation in death. After death, Hindus see cremation as the accepted way to sacrifice the deceased to God. Cremation is the favorable way to dispose of the body, as Hindus believe that the body has no purpose after death. Hindu funerals are extremely important ceremonies that will last for days after death. Typically, there is a lead mourner, who is generally the eldest son of the deceased who plays a crucial role in performing all the funeral rites (Gupta, 2011). As the rituals begin, the body will be placed on a bier, which is carried to the placed of cremation. Upon arrival, the disposal ceremony begins which is led by a priest and the body is removed from the bier by placing it in a river. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Effects Of Ice On The Australian Government Purpose: It has been widely published within the Australian media that there is currently an ice epidemic and the Australian Government has established a national Ice Taskforce in response to the drug problem the country is facing (Australian Government 2015). Ice is also known as crystal methamphetamine and comes in a translucent or white crystal or crystalline powder (Buxton Dove, 2008). The illicit drug can be smoked, snorted, injected or swallowed and is the most potent form of methamphetamine because of its high purity (Buxton Dove, 2008). Methamphetamine is an extremely addictive psycho stimulant that affects the brain and central nervous system, resulting in the release of high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine into areas of the brain that regulate feelings of pleasure (Caplan, 2008). Other types of methamphetamine include speed and base which are lower in purity then crystal methamphetamine which results in ice having worse side effects and a higher likelihood of addiction (Lewis, 2008). The consequences of ice use encompass all components of life including health, social and economic. This briefing paper aims to determine the extent of crystal methamphetamine usage in Australia and particularly Queensland. The paper will also discuss and develop recommendations on drug policy intervention that will best combat ice usage and ultimately prevent future illicit drug use as well as minimise the harm caused to drug users and the community. Many Americans are currently unable to reach their full potential due to the lack of financial stability in the work force, and are incapable of providing stable income for their dependents. Krugman, like many Americans, believes that change is the only way to help close the ever growing gap between upper class Americans and those who are middle classor below povertylevel. On the contrary, most now wealthy Americans are living off of money that was given to them from their parents and grandparents. The argument that the upper class citizens are not paying enough in taxes, although a matter of opinion, should be reconsidered when looking at how much the rich avoid paying in taxes when using loopholes. Although it may seem as if they pay a lot in taxes, they are avoiding a large portion of what they would have to pay normally with the use of the loopholes. Another key idea of Krugman s to solving inequality is to raise the minimum wage. I agree with Krugman that the minimum wage should be increased, but it should not go up to the extent that it would cause extreme job losses. If the minimum wage was raised two or three dollars without the loss of jobs, many middle class Americans could possibly live a more comfortable lifestyle. The minimum wage should be the minimum amount of money needed to live off of. So many middle class Americans, and Americans below poverty level struggle to live off of a minimum wage salary now. Krugman mentions in his essay, the minimum wage, however, matters mainly to low paid workers (575). Raising minimum wage even a little would aid some people in paying for their necessities. • 20. We Need A Major Change On The Earth s Atmosphere It is a known fact that we as a society are having a major affect on the earth s atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution technologies have advanced and a lot of our means of energy give off harmful pollution. Mass production has allowed the number of cars in production to grow exponentially, and the increasing population is keeping them in demand. Pollution is at an all time high now and continues to get worse with the growing populations. More and more people are driving vehicles and able to afford their own transportation, which has really driven the amount of pollution in the atmosphere up over the past century. Emissions from our vehicles make up about twenty percent of the global warming pollution. This poses a real threat to our environment that needs to be changed. I am not saying that is it bad to drive cars or that people should go on a strike from driving. All I am saying is that we need a major change in our current thinking and process. We are battling the effects and concerns of vehicle emissions everyday, and the change is not happening as fast as it should be going. In order for change to take effect there is going to need to be support from everyone. One way that the majority of us can help in this epidemic is by making more environmentally conscious choices. Choosing a cleaner and more efficient fuel option for our vehicles can make loads of difference if everyone joins in, and create plenty of positive externalities that everyone can enjoy. Air ... • 29. Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social restraint and inner compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this. Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner compulsion, Melville and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal desires as they struggle to find a balance between conflicting values and social norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the Dog are restrained by the socially expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to express their inner compulsion of desire. He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a world where preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an individual has the right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints, defying all forms of society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires. Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable to be free from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears to be fending off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their love. The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the most illuminating aspect of this passage. Also, the country has also observed a profound increase in the trading of technologies stock (Sabherwal, Sarkar, and Zhang, 2011, p. 1210). In addition, the development of day trading has taken control of nearly half of the stock trading industry (Chou, Wang, and Wang, 2014, p. 403). As a result, the traditional methods of company share value evaluation no longer provide an accurate estimate of company value (Rosenblatt and Gawronski, 2004, p. 118). The introduction of twenty first century technologies and stock trading opportunities have created an increasingly volatile stock marketdue to the usage of the internet for day trading. Background From 1990 to 2010 several factors contributed to the volatility of stock trading. The housing booms of the late 1980 s, late 1990 s and early 2000 s demonstrated that an inelasticity in housing supply coupled with a large increase in technologies and securities stock trading creates an unstable market which results in a housing bubble collapse (Calabria, 2011, p. 556). • 36. The Success Of The Goal The targets supporting the achievement of the goal can be measured, are indeed being measured but fail to provide built in incentives or sanctions should these targets not be met or fulfilled. The idea is to put a stop to deforestation, restore land and water ecosystems, protect the planet s biodiversity and various species. Key to the success of the goal is the target to significantly increase financial resources to support conservation, sustainable development and ensure equitable sharing and access to resources. Although these targets can be measured, the accuracy of the data can be called into question because government sources are not always the most trustworthy. Some geographical areas of the world have shown to have skewed the facts ( Spot the Rancher ). The failure of the Kyoto accord and the Canadian tar sands illuminate the uphill battle the UN faces in attaining their goal. As long as elected officials choose to favour economic growth and profit over sustainable development and equality the goal will not be achieved and the targets are irrelevant. The targets are measurable. Organizations such as the World Resources Institute have been working to create an international forest watch. With the use of satellites and technology that provides new ways of detecting deforestation patterns, forests can be far more easily monitored an analyzed. • 42. Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Summary Effective Thinking: Becoming a Critical Thinker Students in today s academic world are simply lazy. Who has time to sit down and critically analyze what is needed to be studied when there are better things to do? In Freire s The Banking Concept of Education, he delineates the concept of how students today are considered banking concept thinkers rather than where they should be, which is problem posing thinking. Ultimately, Freire s argument helps recognize how to transform oneself into becoming a critical thinker. Both the banking concept student and the problem posing student have completely distinctive factors about them. The banking concept student in term is emphasizes that students are passive absorbers of information and that the purpose of learningis memorization of facts. This reinforces a lack of critical thinking and knowledge ownership in students, which in turn reinforces oppression. One possible alternative is the Problem posing educationmodel, in which students are encouraged to think and tackle problems presented to them on their own. Problem posing education solves the student teacher contradiction by recognizing that knowledge is not deposited from one to another, but is instead formulated through dialogue between the two. As illustrated in Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, his image of the average student is categorized into two parts: the banking concept student, and the problem posing student.
