Barack Obama Won The Presidential Election
On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the presidential election; Obama was sworn in as the
44th president of the United States on January 20, 2009. Originally, Obama s health care plan did
not include a mandate and was criticized. In the Jan. 2008 presidential primary debate, his response
to the criticism was, A mandate means that in some fashion, everybody will be forced to buy health
insurance. Instead of going that route, his plan, he said, emphasizes lowering costs. ... the
government will compel you to buy health insurance. Elect me and I ll give you lower costs and
let you keep your freedom ... what s she not telling you about her health care plan? It forces
everyone to buy insurance, even if you can t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don t. (Cline).
At the time of his election, voters were under the impression that Obama was against the idea of an
individual health insurance mandate. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in February of 2008,
speaking of his opponent at the time, Hillary Clinton, Obama states: she mandates that everybody
buy health care. She d have the government force every individual to buy insurance and I don t
have such a mandate because I don t think the problem is that people don t want health insurance,
it s that they can t afford it...I focus more on lowering costs...I could mandate everybody to buy a
house, and that would solve the problem of homelessness. It doesn t (Ballasy). Six months after
Obama took office, he changed his mind

Racial Tension Between Black And White Americans

Essay 4
The term The Negro Problem was used throughout the 1950 s and 60 s as a slang description of the
racial tension between black and white Americans. The two essays in The Fire Next Time talk
about the problem that the African Americancommunity faced, but from different perspectives. The
author is writing to his nephew and is trying to make him understand that the situation is intolerable
and not likely to change. He suggests that instead of reacting from a place of anger and hate, that
the nephew should fight and strive to change the situation rather than confronting it violently. That
his nephew and even the community as a whole should try to almost outsmart the whites by being
the opposite of what they think of them. To prove them wrong and hopefully change the way they
are looked at. He suggests a change of attitudes on both sides, to spread love and understanding
instead of hate and animosity.
Baldwin grew up on the streets of Harlem; he began to realize the all of the temptations such as
sex and drugs was all around him. In order not to give into these temptations, he went to the church
in the hopes it would give him some insight on what to do. Eventually Baldwin sadly realized that
the church was not preaching the idea of love to everyone, but only to the ones who believed in the
same things they did. It is not too much to say that whoever wishes to become a truly moral human

OSHAВґs Whistleblower Protection Program Essay examples
As a government investigator for this case I do support the Department of Labor s decision in this
case.
OSHA implemented the whistleblower provisions of the Sarbanes Oxley Act and 20 other statutes
protecting employees who report violations of various airline, commercial motor carrier, consumer
product, environmental, financial reform, food safety, health care reform, nuclear, pipeline, public
transportation agency, railroad and maritime laws. Under these laws passed by Congress,
employers are forbidden from retaliating against employees who raise various protected concerns or

In February 2008, Foster had discovered equally shocking activities in investigations in Miami,
Chicago, Cincinnati, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The report from the Labor Department, mentioned that after the Boston investigation, Foster
continued to report fraud to internal sources, including several executives such as a manager
director and a vice president and at the end of 2007 she warned executives the number of fraud
incidents in subprime lending may be much higher than reported. Other findings discovered by
Foster included employees who reported or had tried to report fraud at both subprime and prime
lending units who suffered persistent retaliation (Benoit Hudson, 2011).
Blaylockon (2011) suggested that instead of accepting a payment of almost $228,000 for her
silence, Foster wanted to ensure the corrupt practices at Countrywide were exposed and that the
wrongdoers were held accountable. In September 2011, OSHA agreed that Foster had been
retaliated against in violation of the employee protection provision of the Sarbanes Oxley
Corporate and Criminal Fraud Accountability Act of 2002. The Department of Labor ordered her a
payment of $930,000 in damages, which included back wages, interest, compensatory damages and
attorney fees.

Psychology of Terrorist Group Recruitment Essay
Psychology of terrorist group recruitment
Introduction
Terrorism is one of the greatest threats facing humanity in the modern society. There has been an
increase in the number of terrorist organizations and terror attacks that are conducted by groups in
pursuit of divergent ideologies (Burleigh, 2009). Since the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States,
terrorism has been recognized as a serious problem that calls for a global and coordinated response
by governments across the world. Many countries have invested heavily in intelligence gathering
and purchase of hardware and technology needed to detect and neutralize terrorist attacks. However,
this has not stopped the threat faced from terrorism and these attacks continue unabated ... Show

Some of these forms of recruitment will be briefly discussed below;
Public and proximate This is the first form of terrorist recruitment and in this case, recruitment is
performed face to face in a place that is visible to authorities and the general public (Reich, 1998).
It may be done in refugee camps, prisons and large scale wartime occurrences such as occupations
and others. The terrorist group recruiters usually target small groups or individuals who are prime
candidates for recruitment. This form of recruitment occurs regardless of opposition from the
authority due to fear of polarizing the attitudes of the audience, inadequate legislation, or political
sensitivity among others factors (Reich, 1998).
Public and mediated This is another form of terrorist group recruitment and it is usually broader and
resembles propaganda. In this recruitment method, mass media is utilized, such as televised
advertisements for groups that are within reach of the government and legislation (Reich, 1998). It
may also include media channels and websites whose domain names and passwords are in the
public domain. The terrorist groups that use this strategy usually target regional demographic or
population strata including young teenagers who usually gather at a particular place or members of
a unique religious congregation (Reich, 1998). This method of recruitment is usually indirect since
physical communication may not be sustainable or

A Humanistic Counselling Approach For Self Knowledge And...
Introduction As a humanistic counselling approach, person centred therapy emphasises the
potential for self knowledge and personal growth (Corey, 2009). It views the deviation from one
s inherent goodness as a source of psychological problems, in turn aiming to increase one s self
awareness to help them direct their life in more satisfying ways (Cooper, 2003). With the person
centred approach being more an attitude than a set of definitive techniques, a better
understanding of its process is formed through connecting theory and practice. As such, this case
study aims to apply the person centred approach to a fictional client based around Lester
Burnham from American Beauty (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). Initially, an introduction to the
client will be presented, followed by the assumptions, assessment, and goals formed when
working with him from a person centred perspective. Several hypothetical helping sessions will
then be presented. The Presenting Problem Lester is a 40 year old man referred to me for
counselling by his doctor. He is currently married and lives with his wife, Carolyn, and their 16
year old daughter Jane. He is employed as a fast food attendant (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). At
the initial examination Lester dresses untidily and unshaven, and avoids eye contact. Lester reports
an overall feeling of unhappiness (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). He stated that he has become
reckless and self destructive and worried about some of his recent life decisions.

Environmental Issues In The Environment
There are many environmental issues that are affecting our planet which include air and water
pollution, devastation of oceans and forests, population growth, weakening of the ozone layer, and
global climate change. These environmental problems are becoming more and more of a concern to
political scientists and it will take cooperation from all states to resolve the issues. There are
different perspectives regarding environmental issues and how to address them; liberal,
constructivist, and realist.
Air pollution is due to industrialization. Since countries began to industrialize, the air has been
filled with pollutants from car exhausts, energy production, and factories. Air pollution causes
major health problems such as respiratory infections, heart disease, lung disease such as asthma,
and even cancer. Water pollution causes a shortage of drinking water and it is a sanitation problem.
Water pollution goes hand in hand with the destruction of oceans because we pollute the ocean with
trash, ship pollution, and oil spills. The destruction of the oceans also involves overfishing.
Population growth is one of the bigger environmental problems because it expands the other issues.
Population growth increases strain on the environment because we need more resources like food,
clean water, and clean air, which causes an overall resource reduction. Weakening of the ozone
increases the ultraviolet light that comes through which causes skin cancer, it can affect crops, and
it aids

Student Debt Crisis And The Housing Crisis
There is a critical financial trend in the United States: student debt is at an all time high. For the
first time in mid 2013, student debt rose to 830 billion, surpassing the credit card debt (Clemmitt).
Many economists and scholars compare the student debt crisis to the housing bubble, which
resulted in a nationwide recession 2008. In a senate hearing regarding the current student debt
crisis, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said, The warning signs are there, just like they were
before the housing crisis, and congress needs to act before it is too late (Bidwell). After graduation,
many students find it difficult to repay their debt, due to the bleak job market. According to a report
published on the financial website Smart money, ten percent student loans borrowers defaulted in
2010 (Clemmitt). The percent was larger for students that attended a for profit educational
institution, like a career college; fifteen percent of these students defaulted (Clemmitt). Although
the default rates do not contribute to the increasing student debt, one can compare it to the
mortgage crisis when people stopped paying their mortgages and the American economy crashed.
This exemplifies the critical problem that the student debt bubble if burst; it can have devastating
impacts on the vulnerable American economy. Three causes for the increase in student debt are due
to recent trends in college attendance, the increase of for profit colleges and the rise of tuition due
to spending

Costco Is Not A Direct Competitor Essay
Costco is not a direct competitor as it competes in the warehouse club industry. However, Aldi and
Costco are similar in how they sell products off shipping pallets eliminating fancy store designs.
Retail giants Walmart and Target are briskly expanding their grocery options. However, due to
their large size they are not able to benefit from the same efficiencies as Aldi. A pricing survey in
July by Bloomberg Intelligence found Aldi items averaged about 19 percent less than the
comparable Wal Mart items, undermining Walmart s ELP concept. Mass retailers do not offer the
same product selection in the grocery section but they compete on convenience ( one stop
shopping ). Online players Google and Amazon have also added grocery delivery to their offering
and they compete on speed and convenience.
Porter s 5 Forces:
Rivalry amongst competitors: Very high (competing on price, differentiation and/or convenience)
Potential of new entrants: Increasing (high capital investment but no direct licenses required)
Potential of substitutes: High (e.g. online companies offering grocery delivery)
Bargaining power of Suppliers: Low (position of power)
Bargaining power of Customers: Very high (many choices of stores)
Trends in food retailing

States. As this group s disposable income rises, industry operators will increasingly cater their

The Internet
The Internet has an enormous impact on the American Experience. First, It encourages the growth
of businesses by providing new ways of advertising products to a large audience, and thus helps
companies to publicize their products. Secondly, It allows more Americans to find out what goes
on in other countries by learning about other cultures and by exchanging their opinions and ideas
with other people worldwide. This may well promote a better global understanding. Finally, by
allowing people to access vast amounts of information easily, it will change how they make

The ability to process orders quickly has always been an important factor in the business world,
especially for mail order companies. Traditional methods however tended to be fairly expensive. On
the average it has cost mail order companies from $10 to $15 to process a telephone or mail order,
says Rodney
Joffe, president of American Computer Group Inc. Over the Internet, this cost falls to $4, and it is
much faster this way, too (Verity 84).
Advertising on the Internet is another way to endorse products. Hyatt Hotels
Corporation for instance advertises its hotels and resorts, and it even offers a discount for people
who say they saw it on the net (Verity 81).
Hundreds of computer software companies now have their own Internet sites on the
World Wide Web
, where customers can get immediate support directly from the experts or buy and
register new software online. Even magazine publishers are joining the Internet to regularly publish
special Internet versions of their magazines which are read by millions of people worldwide.
The Internet attracts so many companies because they can use it as a tool for communication,
marketing, advertising, sales, and customer support. It is not only faster and more efficient than
using traditional methods, but it is also cheaper. The Internet doesn t just promote growth of
businesses, it also creates new ways for Americans to get in touch with the rest

The lack of information is did not get enough information and can be interpreted or misinformation

esteem and others and take advantage of them. Conflict happens due to personal differences is
difficult for the individual to solve. Importance of maintaining personal relationships is a good

To solve the conflict for lack information the team members should be collaborating in the team.

Political Elements In A Christmas Carol And Rip Van Carolol
It s All Political (Ch. 13)
1.Why does nearly all writing contain political elements?
Nearly all writing contains political elements, because an author usually includes the world around
them when writing. Authors will embrace society in their writing by showing the political
injustices, such as civil rights, power structures, different classes in the society, and many more.
When authors bring in what s going on around them into their writing, they are most likely bringing
in political elements as well.
2.What is the political background that can be seen examples such as A Christmas Carol and Rip
Van Winkle ?
The political background in A Christmas Carol is focused on the belief by a British social
thinker, Thomas Malthus, who believes that giving the poor food and basic essential for life will
only lead to the creation of more poor people in the society. Scrooge along with the rest of the
population at the time thought this way, and that s why after the Christmas spirits took Scrooge on
a journey through his past, present, and future, he became a more giving person that wanted to
help the poor instead of looking the other way. Rip Van Winkle had a political statement
considering the monarchy and how like America, a democracy is what is best for the people,
because instead of one, ultimate ruler, the people were allowed to govern themselves.
3.Are individualism and self determination against the needs of society for conformity and stability?
Individualism and self determination are against the needs of society for conformity and stability,
because a society needs people that help out for it to function as a constant, strong society. People
acting on their own will only bring down a society, because a society runs on its people contributing
to it.
Yes, She s a Christ Figure Too (Ch. 14)
1.Why are there Christ figures?
Christ figures in literature can be used for a number of reasons, such as the author wanting to make
a specific point, about the characters sacrifice, their redemption, their hope, and their miracles. The
author may also want to use the Christ figure ironically to make the character and their sacrifice
look smaller, while making the great sacrifice by Jesus Christ much bigger.

John Keegan s The Face Of Battle
John Keegan s The Face of Battle and Sir Charles Oman s The Art of War in the Middle Ages
provide insight into how historians approach the subject of battle. When discussing warfare,
historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become
normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions
of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing
on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle
demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past.
Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on
combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach
quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember
a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current
political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the
conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence
did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these
procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines
personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows

Stereotypes of African American in Film and Television 1
African American has always been in some type of stereotype when it comes to films or television.
This is nothing new to society for instance it has being going throughout history. These forms of
stereotyping begin as early as the 19th century with minstrel shows which portrayed blackface
characters.

INTRODUCTION Some say that it is better not to dwell on the past because it cannot be changed.
To these people, it is not necessarily bad to reminisce on what has happened throughout the years,
but it is better to focus on what is taking place right now. They believe that the present is another
chance to start fresh and anew without letting past experiences burden them. However, what they
do not seem to realize is that the past, present, and future are interrelated. The present is a result of

that are made in the present. With that being said, studying humanity and past cultures are

For many African Americans, the war offered an opportunity to get out of the cycle of crushing
rural poverty. Black joined the military in large numbers, escaping a decade of Depression and

Americans who registered for the draft in WWII, about 900,000 served in the Army. But about
only 50,000 African Americans were allowed to serve in combat. African American soldiers and

Stinging Nettle Research Paper
Stinging Nettle
Stinging nettle is a broad leafed plant that can cause a hive like rash and burning (urticarial) after
being touched. Hives are itchy, red, swollen areas of your skin.
This reaction is caused by hairs on the leaves of the stinging nettle plant. When you touch or make
contact with the plant, these tiny hairs break off and release acid into your skin. This causes a
chemical called histamine to be released by cells in your skin. Both of these chemicals are
irritating to your skin and can cause a rash.
In severe cases, the rash may be followed by swelling in other parts of your body, such as your

To develop this term, it suggests a man that could possibly be your friend or a man you would

The Thoracic Ventricle
II MDCT angiography of the thoracic aorta:
At the point when an acute aortic syndrome (AAS) is suspected (owing either to clinical
manifestations or to chest radiographic findings), non enhanced CT is usually done first to search a
high attenuation acute intramural hematoma (IMH). The contrast enhanced scanning, which take
after is the key part of the CT examination. The right timing of the entry of contrast material in the
aorta is basic to picture quality. Approaches to accomplishing this incorporate a timing bolus or a
bolus tracking technique (Kazerooni et al, 2009).
Technical procedures: Previously, ECG gating has fundamentally been retrospective gating with
which information are gathered over the whole cardiac cycle. This allows review of aortic valve
morphologic features on static images at end systole and end diastole, measurement of aortic valve
surface area and the review of valve leaflet motion in cine mode. Inadequate coaptation of the valve
leaflets relates to regurgitation, and a confined opening relates to stenosis (Gilkeson et al., 2006).
Additionally, the more up to date prospective triggering technique gathers CT information just at a
specified point or cluster of points in the heart cycle, decreasing the time the CT beam is on to a
fraction of what it was with retrospective gating, thus considerably decreasing the radiation dose
(Shuman et al., 2008).

In a joint study with Deakin University, Australia, and University of Waterloo, Ontario Canada,
students analyzed increases in lipid metabolism gene expression in human skeletal muscle tissue
after exercise training. Looking at previous studies, endurance exercise elicits increased metabolism
of fatty acids (FA) and carbohydrates, in relation with the metabolismof FA it has been shown that
up regulated genes exhibit their corresponding proteins to transport, initiate, bind, and increase
enzyme activity in response to exercise. Therefore the hypothesis is that certain genes will show
expression and the expression of the corresponding proteins will be more abundant after acute

Once samples were obtained they were placed in liquid nitrogen, once ready for testing of the
sample the researchers used Real Time PCR and corresponding lab chemicals and procedures to
get results of gene expression. In addition to the muscle biopsy they tested VO2 peak, blood
glucose and lactose levels, and heart rate exchange. These results were used to analyze fat
oxidation. After the nine day exercise bout the initial FA oxidation had increased in the skeletal
muscle by 24%. This increase equates to be 4.5 g of oxidized fat. The analysis of the results
shows gene expression when measured after acute exercise showed no significant change in FA
uptake and breakdown in the (FABP), and (FAT CD36) genes. It also had no significant change
in the corresponding transcription factors. These results are from the biopsies obtained directly
after exercise and 3 hours after exercise on the first day of exercise. The results differed when
analysis of the biopsies were obtained on the ninth day after the exercise routine had ended. This
also was tested one and three hours after exercise had stopped. The results showed that there was
in increase in FAT CD36 and CPT I genes. This shows that there is a direct relationship with
exercise training and the genes responsible for FA being taken across plasma membrane (FAT
CD36) and also for transport gene transporting across the mitochondrial membrane (CPT l). These
results show that that the researchers treatment for the study

A Twisted Fate
Prompt: A work of literature cannot be regarded as successful unless at its end the main character
meets a fate that seems to be the natural result of what he has done or shown himself to be. Show
how this statement is true in The Crucible.
Every dramatic play has a tragic hero with a twisted fate. John Proctor is the hero of a play called
The Crucible by Arthur Miller. John is a decent man who lives with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, in
Salem, Massachusetts during the 17th century. Miller writes based on the popular interests of the
people during the 17th century and characterizes John as a persistent man who has pride in who he
is. He also includes values, motivations, and immoralities of the characters in the play. Successful ...

This line is also prominent because it helps the reader predict John s fate. Since the immorality of

Will Iran Destroy The World If Not Kept
Will Iran destroy the world if not kept in check?
Throughout the past century many nations have started to strive for nuclear weapons this arms
race has become an increasingly hostile and dangerous situation to be in. This all started around

America. From then on it has been a race for who could get the newest and best technology being
nuclear weapons. Eventually some of the top countries realized what this arms race could do and
have started to decrease their stockpiles. But there is a new threat of an arms race in the Middle

This could lead to Iran potentially sharing its nuclear technology with extremist groups who hate
the United States and other Western nations. While Iranian missiles can not yet reach America,
Iran having a nuclear weapons capability can potentially directly threaten the United States and its
inhabitants. Iran has publicly stated it may launch a space launch vehicle by 2015 that could be
capable of intercontinental ballistic missile ranges if configured as a ballistic missile. (The
Department of Defence, 2014). On top of this threat many officials are also concerned about the
possibility of a nuclear weapon arriving in a cargo container or being launched from a boats at a
major US port. A federally mandated commission to study electromagnetic pulse attacks has
stated vast damage that could be brought by a single missile with a nuclear warhead if launched
from a ship off the US coast and detonated a couple of hundred miles in the air above America.
(Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic (EMP) Attack,
2004). Now to stray from the threats facing the United States there are the issues that nuclear
armed Iran poses to America s closest allies in the Middle East. First, our largest ally in the region,
being Israel, is most at risk because of Iranian hatred for them and the belief that Israel should be

Artificial Intelligence, a concept that would make possible our most remote dreams, specially for

Freedom And African American History 1 XIN LI The United States is a immigrant country,
which faces varieties of problems. The African American problem is one of the most serious one.
Racial segregation is a deep rooted social problem, which reflects in every field in the United
States. For example, education, labor market and criminal justice system. In the aspect of
education, most of black children were not permitted to enter the school, because the white children
studied there. In the aspect of labor market, the black peoples average wages were lower than the
whites. They did the manual work. In the aspect of criminal justice system, the blacks were
easily in jail. Badly, their sentences were also more serious than the whites. In general, the blacks
live in the bottom of the American society. Martin Luther King delivered the famous speech I
Have a Dream, I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they
will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. (1) However, it
was difficult for African Americanto get the freedom. The 1776 Declaration of Independence
announced that everyone are equal and freedom. But black slavery still occurred in the southern
states of America. Then the Civil War broke out, African American kept struggling for land and
political rights.

Why Sexist Language Matters Kleinman
Summary One/10 In her essay Why sexist language matters (Qualitative Sociology, 2002),
Kleinman argues that sexist language is a social problem because masculine generic language has
many stereotypically masculine terms and expressions that affecting ways that people are speaking
that has consequences and can be eliminated. One of the examples, is when masculine term is used
in language by many people to refer to women s occupation titles, like, chairman and postman.
When women are called chairman it makes women less in society than men. The demonstration that
use of feminine generic language could be used to refer to both women and men, such as,

various binary coded decimal systems such as 8421, 7421, 5421, excess 3, gray code etc...before
encrypting it and then observe the avalanche effect. Variations in the avalanche affect are observed
in the results. Experimental results exhibit a higher avalanche effect when the plain text is encoded

1.INTRODUCTION
Information security is of prime concern as data is being transmitted digitally. A system must
provide the essential security services such as authentication, data integrity, data confidentiality, non
repudiation, access control, availability [1]. Cryptography is the study of techniques that provide a
means for secure communication. It enables the transmission of the information over insecure
channels. It ensures that the data is being accessed or is understood by the authorized persons only.
Encryption algorithms are one such mechanism that provide the data security. They are used to
encode the plain text into a cipher text which is not in a readable format. The initial input data is
known as the plain text. The scrambling of the data in the plain text using various substitution and
permutation mechanisms is encryption. The scramble data obtained is not readable and is the
cipher text.

Beautiful and sad. A narrative from a father to a son. Initially I thought it was tragic and
heartbreaking. It is a true story and a real reflection on the default of being human. If for loss of
compassion for this side of humanity, I would say in an objective and extremely distant point of
view that it is pathetic.
It is good that I am reading it in my 20s, being a daughter, single and childless.
I truly get the father s anguish and grief. The poems express oscillating feelings that explore the
dimensions of extent of strong human emotion. At the same time I understand the son s
rebelliousness to a parent who insists that he (the father) listens yet strongly occurs as imposing.
Unfortunately, the love desperately being communicated does not go across. The story revolved in
the father s thoughts, dreams and memories without an actual dialogue: an attempt to truly listen
and get his son.
The father s hopes to someday laugh at these poems with his son is a very real illusion that
humans live in by default. Hopes and wishes become so real a reality in the fantasy world of our
minds that who we become and act according to what is taking place is regrettably misaligned to
the future that we say we want to

Detection Of P And T
Detection of P and T Waves in ECG Signal
Abstract Electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis plays vital role in diagnosis of heart diseases. In order
to avoid erroneous conclusions, it is of utmost importance that all the features of ECG waveform
are extracted accurately and only sinus rhythms are present in the ECG Signal. Significant features
of the ECG include the P wave, the QRS Complex, and the T wave. Determining the position of P
wave and T wave is a complicated task due to low amplitude. In this paper simple Low pass
differentiation (LPD) based method is proposed for estimation of P and T wave. Locating all the
features accurately is essential for the performance of other ECG processing such as signal
Analysis, Diagnosis, Authentication and Identification. Performance evaluation of this algorithm is
done on recorded ECG signals by holter recorder and MIT BIH database. Validation of proposed
algorithm indicates that it performs satisfactorily with approximate accuracy of 92.46 %.

Construction Wages During The United States Essay
Construction wages in the United States are increasing. with wWages are expected to rise 2.4%
in 2015. Skilled trade workers wages are rising even more rapidly at 4.6% this year.
Unemployment rates in construction are decreasing and the pool of available workers is
shrinking., which has resulted in a higher demand for skilled workers from a smaller
construction labor force . This has caused is causing a shortage of skilled workers and an upward
pressure on wages to increaseincreasing upward pressure on wages. One potential area of relief is
the growing movement by state governments to repeal prevailing wagelaws. Prevailing wagelaws
ensure that government contractors pay workers at a pre determined level based on location and
trade. These wages tend to be higher than the market wage and increase labor costs for
government contractors. The one relief that many contractors have is the increasing number of
states beginning to repeal the prevailing wage laws, which will help stop the increase in
construction wages and may even cause a downside wage correction. With construction wages on
the rise, state governments repealing prevailing wage laws may take some upward pressure off of
construction wages and lower labor costs.

The gory imagery of Velutha s body being broken and shattered is presented throughout this passage

juxtaposition is utilized as Roy says, Boots on Bone. On teeth (Roy 292). This line shows
violence in the sense of relating to Velutha ferocious beating as a subhuman since he is an
untouchable in the Indian society. The policemen s forcible boots damage a good man whose faith
depends on the status of his social class. Juxtaposition is also found when Roy says The muted

so vivid and important that it portrays Velutha s destruction in great detail that shows the light vs
the darkness. Her details help readers make a sense of what Velutha is going through. Roy

The Battle Of The Somme Offensive
The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle of the First World
War. The battle was fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German
Empire, including Australia who came to support the mother county . It took place between 1th
July and 18th November 1916 on both sides of the River Somme in France. It was one of the
largest battles of World War I, in which more than 1,000,000 men were wounded or killed, making
it one of the bloodiest battles in human history. (Wikipedia, 2015)
The Somme offensive was planned in December 1915 and was intended as a joint French British
attack. The French Commander in Chief, General Joffre, conceived the idea as a battle to reduce
the German empire s strength and effectiveness through continual attack and create a distraction
for the Germans to relieve some of the pressure for the French, although territorial gain was a
secondary aim. (Firstworldwar.com, 2009) For a number of months, the French had been taking
severe losses at the Battle of Verdun (which took place at the east of Paris). In order to take
German pressure off the French, the Allied High Command attacked the Germans north of Verdun
therefore requiring the Germans to move some of their men away. (Toor, 2014) The plan was
agreed upon by the new British Commander in Chief, Sir Douglas Haig and by the British
government, who granted authorisation to conduct the offensive. (Firstworldwar.com, 2009)

Manhattan Project Impact
The great achievement or a great loss
The use of the atomic bomb, with its indiscriminate killing of women and children, revolts my soul.
This was Herbert Hover s response to the letter he wrote to the publisher, Colonel John Callan O
Laughlin, of the Army and Navy Journal. The term Manhattan Project came about between 1942
and 1946 during World War II as the atomic research began in the race to construct the first atomic
bomb. Even though the atomic bomb created caused there to be a great turning point in the World
War II favoring the Allies and especially the United States by facilitating the war to an end, there
are many who despise the use of the atomic bomb due to its copious negative impacts on the lives
of many innocents. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advisers were insinuating to the powerful hydrogen bombs that may be the affect of this
project. There were also the concerns of the danger in joining the arms race along with the
international diffusion of information to scrutinize the creation of the finest nuclear weapon.
Roosevelt was also seen to be concerned about the cavalier belief [5] where after the World War II,
America will still hold dominance in the atomic bomb area. There was the planning of the
memorandum [6], which disabused the higher ranking officials that such a theory existed. From all
these concerns laid out on the table, on may see that the officials took great precaution to proceed

Why Hunting Should Be For Providing Food And Resources As...
Oh Deer There are multiple and personal ways to look at hunting, such as a way to provide life or
even a sport. There are also different tactics in hunting, such as high fence, low fence, endangered,
poaching and etc. Ethically I believe the means of hunting should purposely be for providing food
and resources as needed. More than 38 million Americans hunt and fish, as stated by nhfday.org.
These statistics were in 2012 and records have concluded that the numbers have increased since
then making huntinga higher demand. I believe as a hunter you should have a purpose for killing
an animal. For example, many hunt for the meat, but you can utilize the rest of the animal for
different resources, like bones or antlers being made into knives. Responsible hunters should be
defined as respectful to natural resources because hunting provides a way of life and population
control. Surveys are taken across the United States in various ways. In Texas we have multiple
ways in how we calculate the white tailed deerpopulation. Right now, our current ratio of doe s to
bucks is 10:1. We are overpopulated in both genders, but mainly in doe s which is why were
limited on how many bucks we are allowed to kill per season. For the hunting season of 2015
2016, you were allowed to kill 5 white tailed deer in total; only 3 are allowed to be bucks or
antlerless while the remaining 2 are strictly antlerless deer. Texas harvests the largest amount of

Potential Lead Contamination From Drinking Water
Introduction
Course Overview
Potential lead contamination from drinking water presents a significant health risk. Recent
examples of this lead contamination include Flint, Michigan, a city that experienced a large
increase in the number of people, especially children, who exhibited symptoms of lead poisoning. A
March 9, 2016 article in the Washington Post reported data from the Environmental Protection
Agency that indicated approximately 350 schools and day care centers across the US failed lead
tests approximately 470 times between 2012 and 2015. Seven years ago, according to the Post, a
study concluded that hundreds of young children in Washington, DC, had potentially damaging
amounts of lead in their blood due to contamination in the city s tap water. The toxin can cause
permanent developmental and behavioral issues.
A February 8, 2016, NY Times article reported that five months after Sebring, Ohio officials found
unsafe lead levels, the City issued a warning for pregnant women and children and shut down taps
and fountains in schools.
In 2001, after Washington, D.C., changed how it disinfected drinking water, lead in tap water at
thousands of homes spiked as much as 20 times the federally approved level. Residents did not
find out for three years. When they did, officials ripped out lead water pipes feeding 17,600 homes
and discovered three years later that many of the repairs had only prolonged the contamination.

The Evolution of Anticruelty Laws
Soon, many groups were concerned about how animals were being treated. Anticruelty laws were
first passed in Great Britain. The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare
groups; insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals
(Judson 20). This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the
first anticruelty law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses,
oxen, cattle or sheep. By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923,
most states prohibited the practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of
hunting methods of animals (Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfaregroups in Great
Britain and the United States pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from
methods such as slaughter and animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were
already being formed. The first society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals(Guither 2). Later, in 1835, public policy was passed in Great Britain to
consolidate and amend the several laws relation to the cruelty and improper treatment of animals
(Guither 2). Decades later, in 1911, Parliament passed the Protection of Animals Acts, which is still
n effect today. Harold D. Guither, author of the book Animal Rights: History and Scope of a
Radical Social Movement, describes this act, station

Sins In The Help, By Kathryn Stockett
In the movie The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, sins are prevalent primarily prejudice takes place
against the dark skinned members of society. The Help is set in the south of the United States in
1962, portraying the lives of black maids and the white women who employ them. The movie is
full of sins including sins of commission, sins of omission, mortal sins, venial sins, and sinful
social structures. At the beginning of the movie, we immediately encounter a sin of
commission. Mae Mobley, a young two year old, is physically abused and neglected by her
mother, Elizabeth. In one scene, Elizabeth strikes her daughter for sitting on a black person s
toilet. Sins of commission are sins we commit by doing something we shouldn t do. It s the type
of sin we are most familiar with. The poor young girl is treated so poorly for simply no reason.

Eating Disorders In Black Swan
Black Swan is a dark and chaotic film that follows a ballet dancer named Nina who s only and
greatest dream is to become the Swan Queen in the production Swan Lake. The movie follows
Nina s demise into chaos as she attempts to master and embody both the white and black swan.
Although dark, confusing, and sometimes frightening, the movie excellently portrays the utter
chaos of living with an eating disorder, as well as the perils of schizophrenia, and anxiety. The
movie begins with the portrayal of Nina as a timid person struggling with Anorexia and self
confidence with the aspiration to become the perfect ballet dancer. After Nina gets the role as the
swanQueen, Nina begins to take a turn for the worse and gradually shows increasingly severe
symptoms of schizophrenia and dissociation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marya Hornbacher in Wasted describes eating disorders as a little private drama in which
everything becomes life or death... terribly grand and crashing, distracting the person from the
real world (Hornbacher 239). It s a life where there is no middle ground and I think this how
Nina lived. Nina struggled immensely with herself even before the schizophrenia became clear.
Hornbacher describes her eating disorder as a distraction from the fear that the real world will
gobble you up the minute you step into it, as well as the fear of the self, a completely dualistic
and contradictory fear (Hornbacher 239). Even at the start of the film, the viewer can see that Nina
is scared. Nina s mother molded her to always strive for perfection, and the aspiration for perfection
became so overwhelming and important it began to eat her away. Marya Hornbacher also
emphasizes the American culture s negative influence on striving for physical perfection. Ballet, a
sport that emphasizes the body, most likely had an enormous influence on Nina s turn to

The Legacy Of The Baltimore Bullet Essay
Calvin Nguyen Capps English IV AP 5th 11 Dec 2016 The Legacy of the Baltimore Bullet
Known as the Baltimore Bullet or Flying Fish (Olympics), Michael Phelps is also known as an
Olympian, writer, philanthropist, and one who has had legal problems; identities that come
together in an athlete that has left a legacy that may never be surpassed. Showing dominance
extending from the beginning of his career to the very end, he is the greatest athlete that the
swimming world, and perhaps even the entire world of sports has ever seen. Phelps s
unprecedented level of achievement not even rivaled by Leonidas of Rhodes in the Olympics
and records in the sport of swimming have created history, his passion for the sport has
contributed back to the community, while his struggles have shown society that problems can be
overcome in order to allow greatness to be achieved. Phelps s struggles began in his childhood.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Phelps did not begin his swimming career until the age of 7
(Bargeron Tidd). Initially scared of the pool, Phelps refused to put his head into the water. Along
with that he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, at 9 years old (Olympics),
around the time that his parents got divorced. With the mental challenges of the disorder, Phelps
needed an outlet for his physical restlessness. Now a vent to his seemingly limitless energy, the
change led Phelps to make drastic improvements in his swimming. To complete the transformation,

Karl Marx And Communism
In any society, there have always been exclusive classes of people who make decisions on behalf
of an entire population. However, historically speaking, it has been evident that these choices were
only made to protect the economic and moral interests of the wealthy and elite, proving itself
disastrous for the common people. Even today, there is a certain awareness that allows us to talk
about the massive amounts of inequity and inequality that particular groups face in our country due
to the strains of a flawed economic, social and political system. Subsequently, American citizens can
agree that our current system needs improvement, however, they usually fail to acknowledge
capitalisms most notorious critic: Karl Marx.

This statement holds true especially in today s presidential elections. Presidential candidates
spend billions of dollars in hopes that their money will equate to influence and a majority of the

ruling class is not really ruling, for example, business owners hiring managers or workers in a
company who are also shareholders. Do these circumstances give more power to the working class
since they are operating and/or part owner of the company?
In conclusion, Karl Marx was a principal figure who ultimately illustrated a framework of sociology
that influenced the like of Ho Chi Minh, Mao Zedong, and more recently and famously, Fidel
Castro. His conflict theory emphasized the importance and impact of social classes on culture and

Essay on Theme of Death in White Noise
White Noise
Death is probably the most feared word in the English language. Its undesired uncertainty threatens
society s desire to believe that life never ends. Don DeLillo s novel White Noise tells the bizarre
story of how Jack Gladney and his family illustrate the postmodern ideas of religion, death, and
popular culture. The theme of death s influence over the character mentality, consumer lifestyle, and
media manipulation is used often throughout DeLillo s story. Perhaps, the character most
responsive to death is Jack Gladney. In fact, he is so consumed by his fear of death that his ordinary
thought processes are often interrupted by the question: Who will die first (DeLillo 15)? In Jack s
mind: This question comes up from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duvall notes that forms of credit...are crucial to Jack s function as a consumer, and Jack stops
thinking about death by thinking of it in terms of a credit card: a way to delay the payment
process(136). Furthermore, Jack uses his credit to create a sense of power over his fear of
death. I sent clerks into their fabric books and pattern books to search for elusive designs. I
began to grow in value and self regard. I filled myself out, found new aspects of myself, located
a person I d forgotten existed....The more money I spent, the less important it seemed. I was
bigger than these sums (DeLillo 83 84). According to Mark Conroy, author of From Tombstone
to Tabloid: Authority Figured in White Noise, this illustrates what one could call DeLillo s Law
of Consumption: that people expend money in direct proportion to their fear of death or
dishonor (102). Again, Jack would hide the idea of death through shopping by purchasing items
that gave him a fresh, new look; a look that death would not give because death is old and bland.
During the attack of the black, billowing cloud, a man holding a television with a blank screen
talks about the lack of media coverage on the event. No film footage, no live report. Does this kind
of thing happen so often that nobody cares anymore? Don t those people know what we ve been

  • 2. Barack Obama Won The Presidential Election On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the presidential election; Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on January 20, 2009. Originally, Obama s health care plan did not include a mandate and was criticized. In the Jan. 2008 presidential primary debate, his response to the criticism was, A mandate means that in some fashion, everybody will be forced to buy health insurance. Instead of going that route, his plan, he said, emphasizes lowering costs. ... the government will compel you to buy health insurance. Elect me and I ll give you lower costs and let you keep your freedom ... what s she not telling you about her health care plan? It forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don t. (Cline). At the time of his election, voters were under the impression that Obama was against the idea of an individual health insurance mandate. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in February of 2008, speaking of his opponent at the time, Hillary Clinton, Obama states: she mandates that everybody buy health care. She d have the government force every individual to buy insurance and I don t have such a mandate because I don t think the problem is that people don t want health insurance, it s that they can t afford it...I focus more on lowering costs...I could mandate everybody to buy a house, and that would solve the problem of homelessness. It doesn t (Ballasy). Six months after Obama took office, he changed his mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Racial Tension Between Black And White Americans Jenifer Coderko History 7B Professor Matthews November 11 2014 Essay 4 The term The Negro Problem was used throughout the 1950 s and 60 s as a slang description of the racial tension between black and white Americans. The two essays in The Fire Next Time talk about the problem that the African Americancommunity faced, but from different perspectives. The author is writing to his nephew and is trying to make him understand that the situation is intolerable and not likely to change. He suggests that instead of reacting from a place of anger and hate, that the nephew should fight and strive to change the situation rather than confronting it violently. That his nephew and even the community as a whole should try to almost outsmart the whites by being the opposite of what they think of them. To prove them wrong and hopefully change the way they are looked at. He suggests a change of attitudes on both sides, to spread love and understanding instead of hate and animosity. Baldwin grew up on the streets of Harlem; he began to realize the all of the temptations such as sex and drugs was all around him. In order not to give into these temptations, he went to the church in the hopes it would give him some insight on what to do. Eventually Baldwin sadly realized that the church was not preaching the idea of love to everyone, but only to the ones who believed in the same things they did. It is not too much to say that whoever wishes to become a truly moral human being ...must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. OSHAВґs Whistleblower Protection Program Essay examples As a government investigator for this case I do support the Department of Labor s decision in this case. OSHA implemented the whistleblower provisions of the Sarbanes Oxley Act and 20 other statutes protecting employees who report violations of various airline, commercial motor carrier, consumer product, environmental, financial reform, food safety, health care reform, nuclear, pipeline, public transportation agency, railroad and maritime laws. Under these laws passed by Congress, employers are forbidden from retaliating against employees who raise various protected concerns or provide protected information to the employer or to the government. In February 2008, Foster had discovered equally shocking activities in investigations in Miami, Chicago, Cincinnati, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The report from the Labor Department, mentioned that after the Boston investigation, Foster continued to report fraud to internal sources, including several executives such as a manager director and a vice president and at the end of 2007 she warned executives the number of fraud incidents in subprime lending may be much higher than reported. Other findings discovered by Foster included employees who reported or had tried to report fraud at both subprime and prime lending units who suffered persistent retaliation (Benoit Hudson, 2011). Blaylockon (2011) suggested that instead of accepting a payment of almost $228,000 for her silence, Foster wanted to ensure the corrupt practices at Countrywide were exposed and that the wrongdoers were held accountable. In September 2011, OSHA agreed that Foster had been retaliated against in violation of the employee protection provision of the Sarbanes Oxley Corporate and Criminal Fraud Accountability Act of 2002. The Department of Labor ordered her a payment of $930,000 in damages, which included back wages, interest, compensatory damages and attorney fees. • 5. Psychology of Terrorist Group Recruitment Essay Psychology of terrorist group recruitment Introduction Terrorism is one of the greatest threats facing humanity in the modern society. There has been an increase in the number of terrorist organizations and terror attacks that are conducted by groups in pursuit of divergent ideologies (Burleigh, 2009). Since the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States, terrorism has been recognized as a serious problem that calls for a global and coordinated response by governments across the world. Many countries have invested heavily in intelligence gathering and purchase of hardware and technology needed to detect and neutralize terrorist attacks. However, this has not stopped the threat faced from terrorism and these attacks continue unabated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these forms of recruitment will be briefly discussed below; Public and proximate This is the first form of terrorist recruitment and in this case, recruitment is performed face to face in a place that is visible to authorities and the general public (Reich, 1998). It may be done in refugee camps, prisons and large scale wartime occurrences such as occupations and others. The terrorist group recruiters usually target small groups or individuals who are prime candidates for recruitment. This form of recruitment occurs regardless of opposition from the authority due to fear of polarizing the attitudes of the audience, inadequate legislation, or political sensitivity among others factors (Reich, 1998). Public and mediated This is another form of terrorist group recruitment and it is usually broader and resembles propaganda. In this recruitment method, mass media is utilized, such as televised advertisements for groups that are within reach of the government and legislation (Reich, 1998). It may also include media channels and websites whose domain names and passwords are in the public domain. The terrorist groups that use this strategy usually target regional demographic or population strata including young teenagers who usually gather at a particular place or members of a unique religious congregation (Reich, 1998). This method of recruitment is usually indirect since physical communication may not be sustainable or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Humanistic Counselling Approach For Self Knowledge And... Introduction As a humanistic counselling approach, person centred therapy emphasises the potential for self knowledge and personal growth (Corey, 2009). It views the deviation from one s inherent goodness as a source of psychological problems, in turn aiming to increase one s self awareness to help them direct their life in more satisfying ways (Cooper, 2003). With the person centred approach being more an attitude than a set of definitive techniques, a better understanding of its process is formed through connecting theory and practice. As such, this case study aims to apply the person centred approach to a fictional client based around Lester Burnham from American Beauty (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). Initially, an introduction to the client will be presented, followed by the assumptions, assessment, and goals formed when working with him from a person centred perspective. Several hypothetical helping sessions will then be presented. The Presenting Problem Lester is a 40 year old man referred to me for counselling by his doctor. He is currently married and lives with his wife, Carolyn, and their 16 year old daughter Jane. He is employed as a fast food attendant (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). At the initial examination Lester dresses untidily and unshaven, and avoids eye contact. Lester reports an overall feeling of unhappiness (Cohen, Jinks Mendes, 1999). He stated that he has become reckless and self destructive and worried about some of his recent life decisions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Environmental Issues In The Environment There are many environmental issues that are affecting our planet which include air and water pollution, devastation of oceans and forests, population growth, weakening of the ozone layer, and global climate change. These environmental problems are becoming more and more of a concern to political scientists and it will take cooperation from all states to resolve the issues. There are different perspectives regarding environmental issues and how to address them; liberal, constructivist, and realist. Air pollution is due to industrialization. Since countries began to industrialize, the air has been filled with pollutants from car exhausts, energy production, and factories. Air pollution causes major health problems such as respiratory infections, heart disease, lung disease such as asthma, and even cancer. Water pollution causes a shortage of drinking water and it is a sanitation problem. Water pollution goes hand in hand with the destruction of oceans because we pollute the ocean with trash, ship pollution, and oil spills. The destruction of the oceans also involves overfishing. Population growth is one of the bigger environmental problems because it expands the other issues. Population growth increases strain on the environment because we need more resources like food, clean water, and clean air, which causes an overall resource reduction. Weakening of the ozone increases the ultraviolet light that comes through which causes skin cancer, it can affect crops, and it aids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Student Debt Crisis And The Housing Crisis There is a critical financial trend in the United States: student debt is at an all time high. For the first time in mid 2013, student debt rose to 830 billion, surpassing the credit card debt (Clemmitt). Many economists and scholars compare the student debt crisis to the housing bubble, which resulted in a nationwide recession 2008. In a senate hearing regarding the current student debt crisis, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said, The warning signs are there, just like they were before the housing crisis, and congress needs to act before it is too late (Bidwell). After graduation, many students find it difficult to repay their debt, due to the bleak job market. According to a report published on the financial website Smart money, ten percent student loans borrowers defaulted in 2010 (Clemmitt). The percent was larger for students that attended a for profit educational institution, like a career college; fifteen percent of these students defaulted (Clemmitt). Although the default rates do not contribute to the increasing student debt, one can compare it to the mortgage crisis when people stopped paying their mortgages and the American economy crashed. This exemplifies the critical problem that the student debt bubble if burst; it can have devastating impacts on the vulnerable American economy. Three causes for the increase in student debt are due to recent trends in college attendance, the increase of for profit colleges and the rise of tuition due to spending ... • 9. Costco Is Not A Direct Competitor Essay Costco is not a direct competitor as it competes in the warehouse club industry. However, Aldi and Costco are similar in how they sell products off shipping pallets eliminating fancy store designs. Retail giants Walmart and Target are briskly expanding their grocery options. However, due to their large size they are not able to benefit from the same efficiencies as Aldi. A pricing survey in July by Bloomberg Intelligence found Aldi items averaged about 19 percent less than the comparable Wal Mart items, undermining Walmart s ELP concept. Mass retailers do not offer the same product selection in the grocery section but they compete on convenience ( one stop shopping ). Online players Google and Amazon have also added grocery delivery to their offering and they compete on speed and convenience. Porter s 5 Forces: Rivalry amongst competitors: Very high (competing on price, differentiation and/or convenience) Potential of new entrants: Increasing (high capital investment but no direct licenses required) Potential of substitutes: High (e.g. online companies offering grocery delivery) Bargaining power of Suppliers: Low (position of power) Bargaining power of Customers: Very high (many choices of stores) Trends in food retailing Shifting demographics: Millennials have emerged as the most populous generation in the United States. The ability to process orders quickly has always been an important factor in the business world, especially for mail order companies. Traditional methods however tended to be fairly expensive. On the average it has cost mail order companies from $10 to $15 to process a telephone or mail order, says Rodney Joffe, president of American Computer Group Inc. Over the Internet, this cost falls to $4, and it is much faster this way, too (Verity 84). Advertising on the Internet is another way to endorse products. Hyatt Hotels Corporation for instance advertises its hotels and resorts, and it even offers a discount for people who say they saw it on the net (Verity 81). Hundreds of computer software companies now have their own Internet sites on the World Wide Web , where customers can get immediate support directly from the experts or buy and register new software online. Even magazine publishers are joining the Internet to regularly publish special Internet versions of their magazines which are read by millions of people worldwide. The Internet attracts so many companies because they can use it as a tool for communication, marketing, advertising, sales, and customer support. It is not only faster and more efficient than using traditional methods, but it is also cheaper. • 12. Political Elements In A Christmas Carol And Rip Van Carolol It s All Political (Ch. 13) 1.Why does nearly all writing contain political elements? Nearly all writing contains political elements, because an author usually includes the world around them when writing. Authors will embrace society in their writing by showing the political injustices, such as civil rights, power structures, different classes in the society, and many more. When authors bring in what s going on around them into their writing, they are most likely bringing in political elements as well. 2.What is the political background that can be seen examples such as A Christmas Carol and Rip Van Winkle ? The political background in A Christmas Carol is focused on the belief by a British social thinker, Thomas Malthus, who believes that giving the poor food and basic essential for life will only lead to the creation of more poor people in the society. Scrooge along with the rest of the population at the time thought this way, and that s why after the Christmas spirits took Scrooge on a journey through his past, present, and future, he became a more giving person that wanted to help the poor instead of looking the other way. Rip Van Winkle had a political statement considering the monarchy and how like America, a democracy is what is best for the people, because instead of one, ultimate ruler, the people were allowed to govern themselves. 3.Are individualism and self determination against the needs of society for conformity and stability? Individualism and self determination are against the needs of society for conformity and stability, because a society needs people that help out for it to function as a constant, strong society. People acting on their own will only bring down a society, because a society runs on its people contributing to it. Yes, She s a Christ Figure Too (Ch. 14) 1.Why are there Christ figures? Christ figures in literature can be used for a number of reasons, such as the author wanting to make a specific point, about the characters sacrifice, their redemption, their hope, and their miracles. The author may also want to use the Christ figure ironically to make the character and their sacrifice look smaller, while making the great sacrifice by Jesus Christ much bigger. ... When discussing warfare, historians typically approach the subject from a procedural point of view, but it has also become normal to focus on combatants experiences. By cross comparing Keegan and Oman s descriptions of the Battleof Agincourt, it is apparent that both the procedural method and the method of focusing on individuals have merit. However, Keegan and Oman s alternate depictions of the battle demonstrate how combining both perspectives give a more complete understanding of the past. Historical writings have evolved from procedural accounts of events to inquisitive reflections on combatants. Focusing on weapons, strategies and generals perspectives the procedural approach quickly provides in depth information, but often in a distorted way 1. It is important to remember a commander s actions and the events of their battles are often exaggerated to support current political goals . Alternately, a slightly more encompassing approach to warfare considers the conflict s decisiveness in addition to the battle s statistics and facts 1. That is to say, what influence did the battle have on future events and how were people s lives changed by it. Beyond these procedural approaches, modern historians now use a more inquisitive method that combines personal experiences and facts. This more inclusive method allows ... Variations in the avalanche affect are observed in the results. Experimental results exhibit a higher avalanche effect when the plain text is encoded in some of the binary coded decimal systems. Keywords: Data Encryption Standard (DES), Triple DES (3DES), Avalanche effect, Binary code. 1.INTRODUCTION Information security is of prime concern as data is being transmitted digitally. A system must provide the essential security services such as authentication, data integrity, data confidentiality, non repudiation, access control, availability [1]. Cryptography is the study of techniques that provide a means for secure communication. It enables the transmission of the information over insecure channels. It ensures that the data is being accessed or is understood by the authorized persons only. Encryption algorithms are one such mechanism that provide the data security. They are used to encode the plain text into a cipher text which is not in a readable format. The initial input data is known as the plain text. The scrambling of the data in the plain text using various substitution and permutation mechanisms is encryption. The scramble data obtained is not readable and is the cipher text. ... It is a true story and a real reflection on the default of being human. If for loss of compassion for this side of humanity, I would say in an objective and extremely distant point of view that it is pathetic. It is good that I am reading it in my 20s, being a daughter, single and childless. I truly get the father s anguish and grief. The poems express oscillating feelings that explore the dimensions of extent of strong human emotion. At the same time I understand the son s rebelliousness to a parent who insists that he (the father) listens yet strongly occurs as imposing. Unfortunately, the love desperately being communicated does not go across. The story revolved in the father s thoughts, dreams and memories without an actual dialogue: an attempt to truly listen and get his son. The father s hopes to someday laugh at these poems with his son is a very real illusion that humans live in by default. In order to avoid erroneous conclusions, it is of utmost importance that all the features of ECG waveform are extracted accurately and only sinus rhythms are present in the ECG Signal. Significant features of the ECG include the P wave, the QRS Complex, and the T wave. Determining the position of P wave and T wave is a complicated task due to low amplitude. In this paper simple Low pass differentiation (LPD) based method is proposed for estimation of P and T wave. Locating all the features accurately is essential for the performance of other ECG processing such as signal Analysis, Diagnosis, Authentication and Identification. Performance evaluation of this algorithm is done on recorded ECG signals by holter recorder and MIT BIH database. Validation of proposed algorithm indicates that it performs satisfactorily with approximate accuracy of 92.46 %. Keywords: ECG, P wave, T wave, QRS Complex, Digital Filter. I. One potential area of relief is the growing movement by state governments to repeal prevailing wagelaws. Prevailing wagelaws ensure that government contractors pay workers at a pre determined level based on location and trade. These wages tend to be higher than the market wage and increase labor costs for government contractors. The one relief that many contractors have is the increasing number of states beginning to repeal the prevailing wage laws, which will help stop the increase in construction wages and may even cause a downside wage correction. With construction wages on the rise, state governments repealing prevailing wage laws may take some upward pressure off of construction wages and lower labor costs. There are also different tactics in hunting, such as high fence, low fence, endangered, poaching and etc. Ethically I believe the means of hunting should purposely be for providing food and resources as needed. More than 38 million Americans hunt and fish, as stated by nhfday.org. These statistics were in 2012 and records have concluded that the numbers have increased since then making huntinga higher demand. I believe as a hunter you should have a purpose for killing an animal. For example, many hunt for the meat, but you can utilize the rest of the animal for different resources, like bones or antlers being made into knives. Responsible hunters should be defined as respectful to natural resources because hunting provides a way of life and population control. Surveys are taken across the United States in various ways. Recent examples of this lead contamination include Flint, Michigan, a city that experienced a large increase in the number of people, especially children, who exhibited symptoms of lead poisoning. A March 9, 2016 article in the Washington Post reported data from the Environmental Protection Agency that indicated approximately 350 schools and day care centers across the US failed lead tests approximately 470 times between 2012 and 2015. Seven years ago, according to the Post, a study concluded that hundreds of young children in Washington, DC, had potentially damaging amounts of lead in their blood due to contamination in the city s tap water. The toxin can cause permanent developmental and behavioral issues. A February 8, 2016, NY Times article reported that five months after Sebring, Ohio officials found unsafe lead levels, the City issued a warning for pregnant women and children and shut down taps and fountains in schools. In 2001, after Washington, D.C., changed how it disinfected drinking water, lead in tap water at thousands of homes spiked as much as 20 times the federally approved level. Residents did not find out for three years. The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare groups; insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals (Judson 20). This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the first anticruelty law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses, oxen, cattle or sheep. By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923, most states prohibited the practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of hunting methods of animals (Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfaregroups in Great Britain and the United States pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from methods such as slaughter and animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were already being formed. The first society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(Guither 2). Later, in 1835, public policy was passed in Great Britain to consolidate and amend the several laws relation to the cruelty and improper treatment of animals (Guither 2).
