The Controversy Of Learning English As A Russian Language
Growing up, there were two things I was always embarrassed about. The first, was having to
translate for my parents. They are Russian and came to America in 1991. Learning a new
language in their 30s wasn t one of their priorities but getting money to sustain a family was.
Over the years, my parents picked up bits and pieces of English but not enough to have a
conversation with a sales clerk or the doctor. I would complain that I didn t want to translate. At
a young age, I was embarrassed of them because people would give us looks. In the moment, I
didn t understand why they couldn t speak English. As I grew up, I realized that learning English
is difficult. It has a variety of rules that sometimes contradict themselves. I had no compassion or
respect for my parents. The second thing that embarrassed me was not speaking Russian correctly.
I grew up in a Russian church which means I had to conversate in Russian. I was born in America
but I have Russian heritage. Being born in America means you have to learn two languages at once.
Most of the time, you learn English better than Russian. The reason why that happens is because
we have to attend school that teaches us English. I learned Russian through my parents... Show

I should have showed compassion and respect for my parents and everyone like them. It took
bravery and courage for them to come to a country that spoke another language. Americans have
shown hate and malice but so have immigrants. We all have shown hate. I want to become a
pharmacist to help immigrants, to help people. I don t want someone to feel like they can t come
up and ask me a question in the pharmacy. I want everyone to feel compassion when they come to
me as a pharmacist. People don t come to the pharmacy because they want to but because they
have to. Their mom or dad or child is sick and they need medication. They shouldn t feel
embarrassed, like I did, when I had to translate to the

Psychosocial Development In The Film My Girl
Psychosocial Development in the Film My Girl Rebeca Thezan Broward College: DEP 2002
Synopsis For this assignment, I reflected upon how childhood psychosocial development is
portrayed in film. The film I chose to write about is titled My Girl, released in 1991, about an 11
year old girl named Vada Sultenfuss and the changes she endured in the summer of 1972. Vada is
a particular young girl whose mother passed away during or after childbirth, leaving her to be
raised by her emotionally unavailable father, Harry, and her grandmother who has Alzheimer s. As
if that weren t bad enough her father runs a funeral parlor...from their home. I guess you can say
that he father is somewhat a workaholic and still mourns his wife. He rarely spends quality time
with Vada and refuses to address questions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confusion in accordance to Erikson s stages of psychosocial development. She already seems to
be have developed a sense of self and very mature for her age. She is very independent for an 11
years old most likely product of a neglectful father. Consequently, this is a theme that I wanted to
touch on. Emotional intelligence relies so much on the influence of a parenting style. In this
case, we see a widower dedicated to his work. It is evident that he has as neglectful tendencies
towards his daughter on the threshold of adolescence. He has seemed uninvolved with Vada
when she needed him the most case being when Vada started hemorrhaging and seen yelling for
her daddy. Shelly had become Vada s antagonist, made it her duty as a woman to explain that
what was happening to Vada was menstruation. She went so far as to presumably giving Vada The
Talk. having been explained about the birds and the bees Vada wanted nothing to do with Thomas
J, when he came soliciting her to go swimming on such a hot day. At least not for 5 to 7

Dogs and Cats Compare and Contrast
Raising pets is a good habit; through it you can learn how to take care of domestic animals. You
may also have many other advantages; such as while you raise a pet you will have a very
sincere friend for you. Most people like to have cats or dogs as pets, but which is better cats or
dogs. Both cats and dogs are easy to be raised but they differ in many things that you may prefer to
raise one of them instead of the other. They differ in terms of cleaning, exercising, and training.
It is already known that cats are very clean animals. They clean them selves by their tongues. They
clean them selves using sands. Also cats clean their children. You do not need to clean them, just
depend on them to make themselves clean. As cats do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not move a lot, unless there is a need to their movement. Dogs also do not create tricks;
you need to teach them every single movement. Another important part in raising dogs is training;
you need to have extra time to train your dog. Teaching your dog to obey instructions requires you
allowing the dog to do the right commands and correct the wrong ones. You must never be too
hard on the dog and avoid striking it; otherwise it will not obey you. If it tends to obey you
because of punishment, it will be unhappy. Try to reward your dog as you train it, to get what
you want and to make your dog follow the instructions. As a result of dogs requiring cleaning,
exercising, and training, you have to provide your dog with proper leadership. In consequence, you
will spend much more time to take care of your dog.
While dogs and cats are a lot alike, you have to consider their differences before you choose your
pet. As mentioned before cats do not require cleaning nor exercising or training, while dogs are in
need of all these things. If you want to raise a pet then, try to manage your time before you choose

Short Story Of The Fence
The fence, Fredrick, his sister whispered. I always remembered the fence . Fredrick shuddered as
he lifted his eyes up to the tall, barbed wire fence towering in front of them. It seemed no less
terrifying than it did those many years ago. It circled the entire Nazi compound, a brutal
reminder of the ruthless hell it held 40 years ago. Fredrick recalled that unforgettable winter
morning in December 1944. The dining table was not set. The kitchen was missing the usual
smell of hot porridge and milk. Outside, Edith and Fredrick could hear unsettling noises crying,
begging, banging doors, angry shouts. Mama hastily shoved parcels of food into their pockets.
For later, in case you get hungry, my darlings, she said, kissing their foreheads. Then came the
loud banging and shouting at the front door, startling them all. Papa turned to Fredrick and
knelt, staring earnestly into his eyes. Fredrick, hold on tight to your sister s hand and don t let
her go, he whispered urgently. You know I am proud of you. And you are my precious little
angel, Edith. Your Ma and I love you both very much. Be brave. The next moments were a blur.
The children were ushered outside, where army trucks parked in the streets were fast filling with
men, women and children. German soldiers waved and prodded their rifles at the amassing crowd,
yelling threats and abuses. As he was told, Fredrick kept a tight hold of his sister s hand, until they
found themselves on an army truck, surrounded by the

The Importance Of Cursive Writing
Should cursive writing still be taught in school? In the fifth century, cursive writing was established
by the Romans Empire in Europe. Because before they don t have phone or computer with them to
get information and they stated cursive writing to get information and share. Cursive writing is
more important. Cursivewritingshould taught in school because it s helps kids to write fast, helps
kids brian make more storage, kids will be able to read when other people write cursive. Cursive
writing connects student to the past. William said children may teach to read more sasaki
especially dyslexia (William 2013). They read cursive writing and would be able to read
historical documents. We should be focusing on keyboarding skills and other computer based
communication (Cindi 2014). Many teacher have increased in class writing assignments and
these essays must be legible. People also say that print is easier to read that cursive, but again
graham say the research isn t definitive on this either. Cursive writing is a faster way of writing
than printing. Because kids brain involved in thinking language and working memory (William
2014). It is important that student writer at a speed that will enable them to finish their lask.
Copying text like a poem helps kids to internalize (Cindi, 2014). It can improve if they write what

Swot Analysis Of Laura Secord
Introduction Product My current product is a variation of ice cream flavours, it is sold in store
and can be also taken home if the consumers want it to be. There are many different flavours that
can come in a tub, cone, or a bowl. Packaging The packaging of my product varies based on if
you re eating it as soon as you get it or if you re going to eat it at home. One is hand scooped in
the store so consumers can eat it on the way out. If consumers would like it to go it is put in a
polka dotted tub that contains 365g of the picked out ice cream. Where is it Being Sold? Laura
Secord is currently being sold in every province. Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia,
Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. It has not been introduced to the United States or
anywhere outside of Canada. Target Market The target market is easily seen as young kids
because of the adventurous flavours they have. However, anyone can easily be a part of their
market, anyone who has a sweet tooth for ice cream. Competition The main global competitors
branching out into China would be Cow s Creamery, Dairy Queen, Cold Stone Creamery and
Haagen Dazs. Why is it Successful They are incredibly successful because Laura Secord is a

Case A Retail Dry Cleaning Shop
A retail dry cleaning store cleans two piece suits for $12 each. Its patrons are individual walk ins.
There are several similar dry cleaners in the city and this firm offers no special services. The firm
can clean up to 1,000 suits per week. It has fixed costs of $3,500 per week (amortization on its
equipment, rent, taxes, and salaries) plus a costof $4 per suit for chemicals, packaging materials,
order processing, and incidentals. Volume per week has been fairly constant at 600 suits.
A firm that operates three hotels in the city is asking the store to clean 150 two piece staff
uniforms per week at a price of $6.75 per suit. The process would be the same as the store uses on
suits. Because there are several dry cleaning stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why or why not?
The special job still should be accepted even if the hotel chain is only willing to pay $4.25 per
uniform. As mentioned previously, the price at $4.25 is still greater than the Marginal Costat $4.00
and therefore it is still profitable for the firm to continue and make the uniform. The increase in
revenue would be $637.50 ($4.25*150), whereas the increase in costs would only be $600
($400*150). Therefore, even though the $4.25 is far below the $12.00 market price and the
average total cost of $8.67, it is still a profitable order.
Calculation below: =$4.25 =$4.00 =$8.67
3.Suppose the hotel chain is willing to negotiate the price. When you enter the negotiations, what is
the lowest price you are willing to accept (i.e., your reservation price)? (Of course, you will not
announce this price to the other party.)
Since this firm is in a perfectly competitive market, they must charge the same price in the
industry to be competitive. Since they have excessive capacity of up to 400 suits above their
normal sales, the incremental job allows them to negotiate a price anywhere revenue is greater
than the variable cost per shirt. The lowest price that the dry cleaning service should accept is the
point where the Market Price=Marginal Cost =Marginal Revenue, which is $4.00 per uniform.
This is only the case because the dry cleaning service has the excess capacity and

Genetic Testing Is Ethical Essay
One of the questions that has recently plagued me has been that of which is about the genetic
structuring of our offspring. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child?
If so, do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be
entirely possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped
me draw some understanding on this hot topic.
Golden commences his article with a brief story of a mother and father who have been through
prenatal testing. They tested for Down syndrome and an inheritable neuromuscular disease. While it
was a straightforward procedure that was deemed valid by their doctor, Blue Cross (their insurance

submit to some prenatal screening. Usually this involves a blood sample of the mother s blood in
order to determine whether she is likely to have a child with spina bifida, neural tube defects, or
Down syndrome (Golden). United States genetic centers now offer DNA tests for over 30 or 40 of
the more commonly inherited disorders. Those including cystic fibrosis, susceptibility to breast
cancer, X syndrome, Huntington s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and many other various
disorders (Golden). Also, with recent developments, couples are able to have a pre implantation
genetic diagnosis (PGD). This procedure allows the testing of genetic disorders before
germination. It consists of petri dish testing of sperm and egg cells donated by the soon to be
parents. This procedure prevents the idea of abortion, for if genetic problems occur, you are not
destroying a fetus, but simple flushing away embryo cells. Another article that I have recently
acquired has more to do with the ethical standpoint of genetic tailoring, than the scientific. In recent
years, a rather large sum of attention has been placed on whether or not the possibility of genetic
testing will harm our communities (Gooding).
The teaching of Bioethics often relies on difficult cases. Indeed sometimes the ethical dilemma is
developed by altering the details of the case that is otherwise intuitively straightforward,

Women s Music Essay
For nearly thirty years, popular culture has been an ever transforming mosaic of human flesh, or
more specifically female flesh. While it has been known for decades that sex sells , this statement
has taken on bizarre, and at times offensive aspects. It seems that the more modern we become, the
more sexually explicit and objectifying media content becomes. This fact remains true across
multitudes of media formats; today everything from vacuum cleaners to toothpaste is madly
exciting by sex appeal. Ask any senior citizen about the content of television in past generations
and you will likely hear them describe modern programs as inappropriate, even vulgar. Perhaps the
perversion of sexuality and the objectification of women in the media... Show more content on

The first Mariah Carey Video I chose was You ll Always be My Baby. I chose this video for two
reasons. First and foremost, it was one of Ms. Carey s first hit singles and second, it deals (as do
most pop songs) with love. I thought that by choosing a song about love I might get to see some
of the more explicit video segments that the early 1990 s had to offer. My hypothesis was far from
supported as this video showed relatively few stereotypes, and the sexual objectification of the
female main character (Mariah herself) was non existent. The video details a childhood
romance that faded, but the fact that first loves always hold a special place in one s heart. While
both Mariah and the adolescent girl she is played by are dressed relatively conservatively and
are, for the most part, not sexually objectified, certain stereotypes persist. For one the video only
shows Mariah in settings of leisure activities, she is rocking back and forth on a tire swing or is
shown reminiscing about her lover to her diary over candle light. Even the young Mariah is shown
in this way, doodling in a notebook as her adolescent boyfriend serenades her from outside the
window. The boy on the other hand is shown briefly playing sports and then studying (before
sneaking out his window to serenade Mariah).

The Factors Of Media, Body Satisfaction, And Gender On...
The factors of media, body satisfaction, and gender on weight biases Crista Benton University of
Tampa INTRO The stigma against obese indivuduals is now global. It happens at the playground,
during job interviews, while applying for graduate school, in court and even at the doctors office. (1
5) There are already well documented differences between weight bias and gender. Aruguete, Yates
and Edman found that women tend to internalize their anti fat attitudes, meaning they value
thinness within themselves more than others. They become fearful of gaining weight, and tend to
have a stronger desire than men to lose weight. Aruguete s sample of women had desires 3 times
higher to lose weight than the men. Due to the internalization, women tend to be more dissatisfied
with their body and are more likely to engage in risky dietary behaviors. Interalizing antifat
attitudes is not related to the dislike of obease individuals. Men externalize their anti fat attitudes;
even overweight men are more likely than women to have a bias against overweight individuals.
Men value thiness in other people more than they do in themselves. A previous study shows that
watching 40 minutes of The Biggest Loser increases weight bias. The contestants on the program
showed deciation and hard work which contributed to the idea the weight is contorollable which
leads to a higher fat bias. When they measured the fat biases, they found that overweight
participants displayed a

Why The Articles Of Confederation Failed
During and subsequent to The American Revolutionary War, the new Country operated under The
Articles of Confederation. Fearing that any central government in time would grow oppressive and
tyrannical The Articles deliberately produced a weak government, which in time was destined to
fail. The primary causation for the Constitutional Convention of 1787 was the failure of the Articles
of Confederation. The Delegates of the Convention acknowledged that the only component that
possessed the ability to inhibit the public s freedom was their own government. Whether it was too
weak and decentralized (in that it gave too much power to the states) or too centralized and
powerful (similar to the British monarchy). The Constitution s Framers did not believe in a direct

Tapestry
Reflections of the world and its issues can be found in the strangest of places. Take a quilt for
example, a quilt creates a beautiful pattern using colorful pieces of fabric. While the pieces do
touch, the vibrant colors are forever separated by a boundary, sentenced never to intertwine.
However, if one were to direct their attention to the similar, yet different masterpiece known as a
tapestry, another analogy will present itself. A tapestry is a story retold not with words, but with
strings colorful thread woven together. Although the quilt is beautiful and it s own way, it s a

In this world, all languages and dialects will be taken and woven together to produce a picture
that s beauty is on a scale never before seen. It is my firm belief that to achieve this world of
beauty, people in every corner of the Earth should push for the study of foreign language to be set in
the mandatory curriculum for all students. The statement The children are our future, is not just
for Whitney Houston songs, it s an accurate statement that should be kept in mind when making
choices on a child s behalf, so when it comes time for the decision of mandatory education topics,
I request that foreign language be added to the list. The study of a foreign language is necessary
to a juvenile as math or science. Not only will this study vastly improve a child s knowledge of
language and culture, but it will benefit them in many other subjects as well. For example,
bilingualism can offer a helping hand in developing and strengthening a child s long term learning
skills. These skills will follow a child throughout their school years and into the rest of their life.
This benefit is due to the fact that when studying another dialect a great amount of memorization is
needed for a child s brain to fully absorb the knowledge and become fluent in a language

Spiritual Food of the Baroque Period
The baroque period brought forth the most ornamented art of all time. The musical field grew
parallel to the fields of painting and sculpture, all three categories experienced a dramatic increase
in interest. Consequentially, the sudden flow of finances allowed the musicians to examine,
modify, and renew their standards and methods. Baroque musicquickly developed into a very
individual style. During the nearly one hundred and fifty years that the Baroque period lasted the
basic style did not change, in fact it was simple built upon. Francis Schaeffer advises us that the
arts are ways to understand the society and politics of the past, given the distinct correlation
between the art world and musicworld we can tell that the Baroque period was a time of peaceful
renovation. The driving ideology of Baroque music was the need to communicate.
Baroque music has many characteristics that set it apart. Early baroque music uses extreme
instrument contrast to create a dramatic emotional climax. Later musicians developed a method of
succinctly building a climax. The other noticeable difference is the key instruments are tuned to.
The quality of instruments has significantly increased since the Baroque period, to mimic the
original sound of baroque pieces orchestras often tune their instruments down about half a key.
Melody and harmony were emphasized across the board instead of in individual genres. Another
key characteristic was the attitude of the composers, in desperation to

Germany as a Victim
Germany as a Victim
On the 16th June the German government, lead by Count Brockdorff Rantzau, were presented
with the Treaty of Versailles. They were originally given 14, and then 21 days, to agree to it. The
treaty, which included some 440 Articles, was not as vindictive as Clemenceau had wanted nor as
moderate as Lloyd George would have wished. It certainly fell far short of the conciliatory features
of Wilson s fourteen point proposals. (Evans and Jenkins) However, in order to decipher whether
the end results were destructive to Germany or not, it is necessary to asses not only the main points
of the treaty (including military provisions, territory, financial provisions, war guilt and the ... Show

Dehumanization In Bartleby The Scrivener
The character of Bartleby in Herman Melville s novella Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall
Street is a person who refuses to become an object in capitalistic society. Initially, he is the perfect
example of the objectification and mechanization of humans in the workplace. In essence, Bartleby
is a machine that continually produces. Ultimately, he begins to resist the mind numbing repetition
of his tasks and the mechanization of his life. The other main character, the narrator, is a facilitator
of the capitalistic machine. He dehumanizes his employees by ensuring that their free will is denied
in the workplace using objectifying nicknames, providing a workplace devoid of human touch and
connection,; and perpetuating mechanized, repetitive work. Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivenershows
the dehumanizing effects of working in a capitalistic environment and ultimately suggests that one
must conform to a standard way of life or will cease to exist.
One of the first ways in which Melville begins the dehumanization of the workers is through the
narrator s use of condescending nicknames for his employees: Turkey, Ginger Nut and Nippers.
The reader does not know their actual names and never learns them. Their nicknames are what
becomes the important commodity to the novella. When one thinks of turkey, we tend to think of
an animal and not the name of a person, Nippers sounds like the name you would give a dog
while Ginger Nut is the name of a type of cake. Why

The card game intercut with the flashback of the hex doll works. It sets the tone and establishes
the world. While some tightening of dialogue is suggested, it s a good start. Moreover, the teaser
hooks the audience; both Marie Laveau and Marianne fascinate the audience.
As the pilot continues, there are some good plotlines, but there s simply not enough anticipation,
suspense, tension, and/or romance. The pilot relies a bit too much on dialogue.
First, the pilot offers a plot to abolish slavery. Marie wants Marianne s help. It s a plotline that s
smart, but vague. Marie talks a lot in the scene about what she wants Marianne to do, but her
dialogue, in this scene, can just be clearer. She talks in a round about way.
She simply needs to say that she has information that Marianne will be approached to have meetings
held at her establishment and that she wants Marianne to agree to the meetings and to spy on the
men for information. Be specific.
For example, maybe they are expecting the Confederates to attack a fort, or something like this,
and she needs Marianne to get information about this attack. This gives this storyline more focus.
Moreover, showing Marianne spying will enhance the tension. Maybe she s almost caught. Maybe
she checks out the pockets of one of the their clients looking for information. This also makes
Marianne more proactive as a character.
Also, to elevate this

Beowulf An Epic Hero Beowulf: An Epic Hero Being a hero can be defined many different
ways. Several qualities like courage, respect, and strength can define heroism. A hero is noted for
his or her actions for being brave, powerful, and acting with honor. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the
main character Beowulf shows all of these characteristics by defending the Danish king, Hrothgar,
and his people. He is a true hero by honoring his country and exerting his power and strength to
protect others. Beowulf embodies the qualities of bravery, being powerful, and demonstrating his

1822 1826). Beowulf s honor far exceeds the average person s, and his actions and words show
for it. Not only is Beowulf honorable and well respected, he is brave as well. His courage is
shown by not hesitating to risk his own life to pursue the Dane s enemies. By being self assured,
Beowulf is able to successfully defeat the fiends, Grendel and his infamous mother. At the time
Beowulf is planning to pursue the vindictive dragon, the epic poem states, I ve never known
fear, as a youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but I will fight again, seek fame still, If
the dragon hiding in his tower dares to face me. (ll. 2511 2515). He feels no fear, is confident in
fighting the dragon alone, and has no qualms in risking his life to save others. He declares his
bravery by saying, When he comes to me I mean to stand, not run from his shooting flames, stand
till fate decides which of us wins... No one else could do what I mean to, here, no man but me
could hope to defeat this monster. (ll. 2525 2534). In his actions, Beowulf s bravery is clearly
shown throughout the poem. A final example of heroic qualities shown by Beowulf is his power.
The mental and physical strength is mandatory to being a hero. No Dane, before Beowulf s arrival,

First of all, I think dedication and having a passion for this career is very important. If you aren t

for passion, if you do not enjoy the career you have chosen then you will not live a happy life. If
you chose radiology just primarily for the money, you will definitely struggle and again, not be

Summary Of Alfred Hitchcock s Rope
Film innovator and auteur Alfred Hitchcock is renowned for his genius in building tension, fear and
suspense throughout his films. Hitchcock used visual cinema techniques including cinematography,
symbolism and colour in films such as Rope and Vertigo to invoke a response from his audience.
Hitchcock wanted us to identify with the psychological and physical situations that his protagonists
and antagonists experience.
In Rope, Hitchcock uses innovative cinematography techniques so that the audience feel as if they
are a part of the unfolding drama. The camera work is choreographed so that the action is filmed in
one continuous shot. In this way, in Rope Hitchcock attempted to create the effect of a live stage
show. The effect of the real time footage has the result upon the audience of a constant unrelenting
sense of uncertainty and suspense that anything could happen at any time, such as a dinner guest
opening the chest containing the body of David. Because the audience is constantly on edge, their
reactions, such as fear, are heightened. The camera journeys through the unfolding drama in a point
of view style that is immediate and personal in terms of the characters and objects Hitchcock wants
his audience to see. This camera movement not only gives the audience a sense of involvement, but
creates a sensation of unease and claustrophobia in their minds. Due to the close up
cinematography, the audience becomes drawn into the film, feeling as if they are experiencing the

Disappointment in life. Loneliness and disappointment are universal struggles suffered by mankind
since the beginning of time. Loneliness and disappointment are so common that every person will

My Passion For Literature
It was an honest question, one not verbose to the point of obscurity, What language do they speak
in England? there was a beat, and I, with my ten year old witticism responded to my 17 year old
half sister s question with a candid retort, English, duh! . This amused my parents who continued
packing their suitcases and travel books, her question stemmed from our much anticipated
departure to Great Britain the next day and it had left us all buzzing with excitement. Well when
did you become such a know it all? she veered, it was a half hearted jest, more so antagonistic than
spiteful as all siblingbanter was. For me, variations of that question follow my retorts even now. I
am the product of two English teachers as parents, my name, Elizabeth, stems from their equal
obsession for the works written in the Elizabethan Era namely William Shakespeareand John Lyly. I
am the product of my own genetics, my love for literature and passion for writingonly fuels my
ambitious nature and the pursuit to understand everything that this world offers.
As a child my father read to my younger brother and I every night, we would jump onto the
couch and he would walk in behind us with a book in hand, he read all sorts of books from
Watership Down to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and while my brother would fall asleep after
the first few pages I would be there chapter after chapter anticipating what would happen next.
While this was a way to lull us to sleep that isn t the effect books

The Key Inventions In The Industrial Revolution
THE ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH commonly known as TELEGRAPH The Telegraph changed
everything from how wars were fought to how people would communicate in a faster and more
efficient manner. This invention along with the Steam Engine, was one of the key inventions in the
Industrial Revolution. Why was this? Up until this time, it took many hours, days and even months
for letters to arrive at their destination. Due to the time delay in the delivery of letters, when they
finally did arrive, the information contained in them was usually irrelevant, as such a great deal of
time had passed by. For example, if somebody sent a letter stating that a family member was ill, by
the time the time the person to whom the letter was written received the letter, the sick person
could of either recovered or died. With the invention of the Telegraph, messages were sent instantly,

Compare And Contrast The Book And Book
Quoting Joseph Conrad s famous statement as a storyteller My task which I am trying to

Greenhouse Gases And Its Impact On The Climate
Greenhouse Gases and its impact on the Climate
All over the world scientist have witnessed a serious of bizarre events occur. From the vanishing
of coral reefs in the tropics to melting ice caps in the polar hemispheres. These are all sure signs
of some of the strange phenomenon s that are accompanied by climate change. According to the
Environmental Protection Agency, Climate change is referred to as, A significant change in the
climate that lasts for extended periods over time. These changes include; an increase or decrease
in Earths temperatures or an alter in wind patterns. These changes may occur over several decades
and in some cases even century s. (EPA)
Humanity has contributed greatly to Earths climate. Since the beginning of the Industrial
Revolutions, our atmosphere has been impacted with large amounts of greenhouse gases. Human
activities such as; using automobiles, burning fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal), and farming livestock
have pumped large amounts of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane into our ozone. The
choices we make today have a dangerous domino effect on many of Earth s biomes and species.
For example, burning fossil fuels can lead to rising temperatures, which melts the polar ice caps,
causing earth s sea levels to rise at an alarming rate, leaving many species to go endangered or
extinct. Although we don t always see these changes suddenly, future generations with be greatly
affected. Those who leave near the coastal regions will have to

Introduction
It is crucial to analyse the financial statement of an organization to evaluate the overall performance
of an organization so that the stakeholders have a clear idea of what they are investing in. Two
significant methods of assessing an organization for analysis are evaluating its financial
performance and evaluating the environment the entity operates in. Studying the environment the
business operates in helps us understand the financial performance of the business in more depth
and make sense of the results. The business environment and the financial performance are

The Rise and Fall of Rome Essay
The rise and fall of one of the greatest empires known to man, the Roman republic, were caused
by several key factors. Three of which were the decline of monarchy within the empire, foreign
conquests and expansion of the growing empire, and political battles between powerful officials.
The decline of monarchy which caused the rise of the republic was caused by the expulsion of the
last Etruscan king. An ancient Roman tale tells of how the last Etruscan king, Tarquinius Superbus,
was driven from his thrown. The tale tells of how after his son, Sextus, raped a beautiful and
virtuous women, Lucretia. After she was raped she told her husband what had happened, after that

Censors were elected by the centuries. The censor s task was to enroll each citizen in their tribe,
and place them in a social class century according to their property assessment. In time the
censors acquired the power to revise the list of senators according to their financial and moral
worth. Soon the judicial functions of censors were assigned to a praetor, an official first elected in
367 B.C by the centuries. Praetorships eventually increased in number. The consuls inherited much
of the king s responsibilities, but did not inherit his religious duties. His religious responsibilities
passed to the Rex sanctorum. But in time the Pontifex Maximus became the leading and most
important religious official. The pontiffs were the caretakers of the unwritten law. They were also

Management Plan for Salmon in Alaskan North Pacific Ecosystems
It comes as no surprise that salmon are one of the most sought after species of fish in the world for
human consumption. Because of this, heavy industry and markets have had a critical influence on
the salmon populations. Seventeen strains of Pacific salmon are currently listed as threatened or
endangered. Due to their extreme demand, many problems have resulted for the species as a whole,
from hindrances in their reproduction patterns by modifications in their environment (dams and
river modifications) to detrimental conservation efforts (where hatchery salmon were reintroduced
causing genetic and behavioral dilution ), there are a plethora ... Show more content on

By 2008, that figure had jumped to 5 billion. Because of the huge presence of hatchery salmon in
wild, the result is when hatchery bred fish return as adults and interbreed with wild salmon, they
produce offspring that are less hardy than their purely wild counterparts. Arguably the existence of
hatcheries is directly responsible for offsetting the salmon species composition of the entire North
Pacific. Economically, while fisheries immediately can be seen as generating a huge profit,
extended dependence and exploitation of fisheries can be incredibly distressing. In an effort to
maximize the yield of salmon, hatcheries are failing to see the ocean is an exhaustible resource.
The North Pacific Ocean is, at an alarming rate, nearing the limit of its salmon carrying capacity.
(Peterson, 2008) Because hatchery salmon are both outcompeting wild populations of salmon and
simultaneously causing genetic dilution by mating with wild populations, the fish that are being
caught by fisherman, at an alarming rate, are far less in quality than their wild counterparts. The
reason why? Wild populations often possess resistance to the parasites and diseases of their native
streams that are not found in the foreign hatchery salmon. In addition, the decreasing quality of
salmon also negatively influences recreational activities such as sport fishing, a valuable
component of both the Alaskan economy and the economies of the pacific north west. Millions

Tomlinson does have a good point because since she had moved to Harlem, she felt as if she had
an advantage over people because of her unknown lineage and the fact that she can pass for a
white woman. But she still admired the beauty of Harlem as she always had positive and
encouraging things to say about the class of colored people in Harlem. Angela had never seen
such rich culture in Harlem in contrast to what she had seen and/or experienced in Philadelphia.
Her initial observation of Harlem was that Not all of these people, she realized, glancing keenly
at the throngs of black and brown, yellow and white faces about her were servants or underlings or
end men (96). She saw a different culture of black people in Harlem that didn t shame her as a
black woman. This theory does help prove that Tomlinson does have good point when she said that
Fauset strategically placed her main character in a socially heterogeneous background which
allows Angela to see race through a new lens. Some critics have said that Fauset could have done a
better job utilizing the beauty and essence of the Harlem Renaissance Era to have which disagrees
with Tomlinson s theory about Fauset s underline moral of the story. Critics have expressed that

New additions Anthony Duclair and Maxim Letunov boosted an already deep system after a pair

  • 3. The Controversy Of Learning English As A Russian Language Growing up, there were two things I was always embarrassed about. The first, was having to translate for my parents. They are Russian and came to America in 1991. Learning a new language in their 30s wasn t one of their priorities but getting money to sustain a family was. Over the years, my parents picked up bits and pieces of English but not enough to have a conversation with a sales clerk or the doctor. I would complain that I didn t want to translate. At a young age, I was embarrassed of them because people would give us looks. In the moment, I didn t understand why they couldn t speak English. As I grew up, I realized that learning English is difficult. It has a variety of rules that sometimes contradict themselves. I had no compassion or respect for my parents. The second thing that embarrassed me was not speaking Russian correctly. I grew up in a Russian church which means I had to conversate in Russian. I was born in America but I have Russian heritage. Being born in America means you have to learn two languages at once. Most of the time, you learn English better than Russian. The reason why that happens is because we have to attend school that teaches us English. I learned Russian through my parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I should have showed compassion and respect for my parents and everyone like them. It took bravery and courage for them to come to a country that spoke another language. Americans have shown hate and malice but so have immigrants. We all have shown hate. I want to become a pharmacist to help immigrants, to help people. I don t want someone to feel like they can t come up and ask me a question in the pharmacy. I want everyone to feel compassion when they come to me as a pharmacist. People don t come to the pharmacy because they want to but because they have to. Their mom or dad or child is sick and they need medication. • 4. Psychosocial Development In The Film My Girl Psychosocial Development in the Film My Girl Rebeca Thezan Broward College: DEP 2002 Synopsis For this assignment, I reflected upon how childhood psychosocial development is portrayed in film. The film I chose to write about is titled My Girl, released in 1991, about an 11 year old girl named Vada Sultenfuss and the changes she endured in the summer of 1972. Vada is a particular young girl whose mother passed away during or after childbirth, leaving her to be raised by her emotionally unavailable father, Harry, and her grandmother who has Alzheimer s. As if that weren t bad enough her father runs a funeral parlor...from their home. I guess you can say that he father is somewhat a workaholic and still mourns his wife. He rarely spends quality time with Vada and refuses to address questions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confusion in accordance to Erikson s stages of psychosocial development. She already seems to be have developed a sense of self and very mature for her age. She is very independent for an 11 years old most likely product of a neglectful father. Consequently, this is a theme that I wanted to touch on. Emotional intelligence relies so much on the influence of a parenting style. In this case, we see a widower dedicated to his work. It is evident that he has as neglectful tendencies towards his daughter on the threshold of adolescence. He has seemed uninvolved with Vada when she needed him the most case being when Vada started hemorrhaging and seen yelling for her daddy. Shelly had become Vada s antagonist, made it her duty as a woman to explain that what was happening to Vada was menstruation. She went so far as to presumably giving Vada The Talk. having been explained about the birds and the bees Vada wanted nothing to do with Thomas J, when he came soliciting her to go swimming on such a hot day. • 5. Dogs and Cats Compare and Contrast Raising pets is a good habit; through it you can learn how to take care of domestic animals. You may also have many other advantages; such as while you raise a pet you will have a very sincere friend for you. Most people like to have cats or dogs as pets, but which is better cats or dogs. Both cats and dogs are easy to be raised but they differ in many things that you may prefer to raise one of them instead of the other. They differ in terms of cleaning, exercising, and training. It is already known that cats are very clean animals. They clean them selves by their tongues. They clean them selves using sands. Also cats clean their children. You do not need to clean them, just depend on them to make themselves clean. As cats do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They do not move a lot, unless there is a need to their movement. Dogs also do not create tricks; you need to teach them every single movement. Another important part in raising dogs is training; you need to have extra time to train your dog. Teaching your dog to obey instructions requires you allowing the dog to do the right commands and correct the wrong ones. You must never be too hard on the dog and avoid striking it; otherwise it will not obey you. If it tends to obey you because of punishment, it will be unhappy. Try to reward your dog as you train it, to get what you want and to make your dog follow the instructions. As a result of dogs requiring cleaning, exercising, and training, you have to provide your dog with proper leadership. In consequence, you will spend much more time to take care of your dog. While dogs and cats are a lot alike, you have to consider their differences before you choose your pet. As mentioned before cats do not require cleaning nor exercising or training, while dogs are in need of all these things. If you want to raise a pet then, try to manage your time before you choose your best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Short Story Of The Fence The fence, Fredrick, his sister whispered. I always remembered the fence . Fredrick shuddered as he lifted his eyes up to the tall, barbed wire fence towering in front of them. It seemed no less terrifying than it did those many years ago. It circled the entire Nazi compound, a brutal reminder of the ruthless hell it held 40 years ago. Fredrick recalled that unforgettable winter morning in December 1944. The dining table was not set. The kitchen was missing the usual smell of hot porridge and milk. Outside, Edith and Fredrick could hear unsettling noises crying, begging, banging doors, angry shouts. Mama hastily shoved parcels of food into their pockets. For later, in case you get hungry, my darlings, she said, kissing their foreheads. Then came the loud banging and shouting at the front door, startling them all. Papa turned to Fredrick and knelt, staring earnestly into his eyes. Fredrick, hold on tight to your sister s hand and don t let her go, he whispered urgently. You know I am proud of you. And you are my precious little angel, Edith. Your Ma and I love you both very much. Be brave. The next moments were a blur. The children were ushered outside, where army trucks parked in the streets were fast filling with men, women and children. German soldiers waved and prodded their rifles at the amassing crowd, yelling threats and abuses. As he was told, Fredrick kept a tight hold of his sister s hand, until they found themselves on an army truck, surrounded by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cursivewritingshould taught in school because it s helps kids to write fast, helps kids brian make more storage, kids will be able to read when other people write cursive. Cursive writing connects student to the past. William said children may teach to read more sasaki especially dyslexia (William 2013). They read cursive writing and would be able to read historical documents. We should be focusing on keyboarding skills and other computer based communication (Cindi 2014). Many teacher have increased in class writing assignments and these essays must be legible. People also say that print is easier to read that cursive, but again graham say the research isn t definitive on this either. Cursive writing is a faster way of writing than printing. Because kids brain involved in thinking language and working memory (William 2014). It is important that student writer at a speed that will enable them to finish their lask. • 9. Case A Retail Dry Cleaning Shop A retail dry cleaning store cleans two piece suits for $12 each. Its patrons are individual walk ins. There are several similar dry cleaners in the city and this firm offers no special services. The firm can clean up to 1,000 suits per week. It has fixed costs of $3,500 per week (amortization on its equipment, rent, taxes, and salaries) plus a costof $4 per suit for chemicals, packaging materials, order processing, and incidentals. Volume per week has been fairly constant at 600 suits. A firm that operates three hotels in the city is asking the store to clean 150 two piece staff uniforms per week at a price of $6.75 per suit. The process would be the same as the store uses on suits. Because there are several dry cleaning stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why or why not? The special job still should be accepted even if the hotel chain is only willing to pay $4.25 per uniform. As mentioned previously, the price at $4.25 is still greater than the Marginal Costat $4.00 and therefore it is still profitable for the firm to continue and make the uniform. The increase in revenue would be $637.50 ($4.25*150), whereas the increase in costs would only be $600 ($400*150). Therefore, even though the $4.25 is far below the $12.00 market price and the average total cost of $8.67, it is still a profitable order. Calculation below: =$4.25 =$4.00 =$8.67 3.Suppose the hotel chain is willing to negotiate the price. When you enter the negotiations, what is the lowest price you are willing to accept (i.e., your reservation price)? (Of course, you will not announce this price to the other party.) Since this firm is in a perfectly competitive market, they must charge the same price in the industry to be competitive. Since they have excessive capacity of up to 400 suits above their normal sales, the incremental job allows them to negotiate a price anywhere revenue is greater than the variable cost per shirt. The lowest price that the dry cleaning service should accept is the point where the Market Price=Marginal Cost =Marginal Revenue, which is $4.00 per uniform. This is only the case because the dry cleaning service has the excess capacity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Genetic Testing Is Ethical Essay One of the questions that has recently plagued me has been that of which is about the genetic structuring of our offspring. I ask myself, will we able to choose the physical features our child? If so, do we as a society think this will be an ethical practice? Perhaps, scientifically, this might be entirely possible, but law will most likely restrict it. An article written by Frederic Golden helped me draw some understanding on this hot topic. Golden commences his article with a brief story of a mother and father who have been through prenatal testing. They tested for Down syndrome and an inheritable neuromuscular disease. While it was a straightforward procedure that was deemed valid by their doctor, Blue Cross (their insurance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... submit to some prenatal screening. Usually this involves a blood sample of the mother s blood in order to determine whether she is likely to have a child with spina bifida, neural tube defects, or Down syndrome (Golden). United States genetic centers now offer DNA tests for over 30 or 40 of the more commonly inherited disorders. Those including cystic fibrosis, susceptibility to breast cancer, X syndrome, Huntington s disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and many other various disorders (Golden). Also, with recent developments, couples are able to have a pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). This procedure allows the testing of genetic disorders before germination. It consists of petri dish testing of sperm and egg cells donated by the soon to be parents. This procedure prevents the idea of abortion, for if genetic problems occur, you are not destroying a fetus, but simple flushing away embryo cells. Another article that I have recently acquired has more to do with the ethical standpoint of genetic tailoring, than the scientific. In recent years, a rather large sum of attention has been placed on whether or not the possibility of genetic testing will harm our communities (Gooding). The teaching of Bioethics often relies on difficult cases. Indeed sometimes the ethical dilemma is developed by altering the details of the case that is otherwise intuitively straightforward, ... • 11. Women s Music Essay For nearly thirty years, popular culture has been an ever transforming mosaic of human flesh, or more specifically female flesh. While it has been known for decades that sex sells , this statement has taken on bizarre, and at times offensive aspects. It seems that the more modern we become, the more sexually explicit and objectifying media content becomes. This fact remains true across multitudes of media formats; today everything from vacuum cleaners to toothpaste is madly exciting by sex appeal. Ask any senior citizen about the content of television in past generations and you will likely hear them describe modern programs as inappropriate, even vulgar. Perhaps the perversion of sexuality and the objectification of women in the media... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first Mariah Carey Video I chose was You ll Always be My Baby. I thought that by choosing a song about love I might get to see some of the more explicit video segments that the early 1990 s had to offer. My hypothesis was far from supported as this video showed relatively few stereotypes, and the sexual objectification of the female main character (Mariah herself) was non existent. The video details a childhood romance that faded, but the fact that first loves always hold a special place in one s heart. While both Mariah and the adolescent girl she is played by are dressed relatively conservatively and are, for the most part, not sexually objectified, certain stereotypes persist. For one the video only shows Mariah in settings of leisure activities, she is rocking back and forth on a tire swing or is shown reminiscing about her lover to her diary over candle light. Even the young Mariah is shown in this way, doodling in a notebook as her adolescent boyfriend serenades her from outside the window. The boy on the other hand is shown briefly playing sports and then studying (before sneaking out his window to serenade Mariah). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Factors Of Media, Body Satisfaction, And Gender On... The factors of media, body satisfaction, and gender on weight biases Crista Benton University of Tampa INTRO The stigma against obese indivuduals is now global. It happens at the playground, during job interviews, while applying for graduate school, in court and even at the doctors office. (1 5) There are already well documented differences between weight bias and gender. Aruguete, Yates and Edman found that women tend to internalize their anti fat attitudes, meaning they value thinness within themselves more than others. They become fearful of gaining weight, and tend to have a stronger desire than men to lose weight. Aruguete s sample of women had desires 3 times higher to lose weight than the men. Due to the internalization, women tend to be more dissatisfied with their body and are more likely to engage in risky dietary behaviors. Interalizing antifat attitudes is not related to the dislike of obease individuals. Men externalize their anti fat attitudes; even overweight men are more likely than women to have a bias against overweight individuals. Men value thiness in other people more than they do in themselves. A previous study shows that watching 40 minutes of The Biggest Loser increases weight bias. The contestants on the program showed deciation and hard work which contributed to the idea the weight is contorollable which leads to a higher fat bias. When they measured the fat biases, they found that overweight participants displayed a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fearing that any central government in time would grow oppressive and tyrannical The Articles deliberately produced a weak government, which in time was destined to fail. The primary causation for the Constitutional Convention of 1787 was the failure of the Articles of Confederation. The Delegates of the Convention acknowledged that the only component that possessed the ability to inhibit the public s freedom was their own government. In this world, all languages and dialects will be taken and woven together to produce a picture that s beauty is on a scale never before seen. It is my firm belief that to achieve this world of beauty, people in every corner of the Earth should push for the study of foreign language to be set in the mandatory curriculum for all students. The statement The children are our future, is not just for Whitney Houston songs, it s an accurate statement that should be kept in mind when making choices on a child s behalf, so when it comes time for the decision of mandatory education topics, I request that foreign language be added to the list. The study of a foreign language is necessary to a juvenile as math or science. Not only will this study vastly improve a child s knowledge of language and culture, but it will benefit them in many other subjects as well. For example, bilingualism can offer a helping hand in developing and strengthening a child s long term learning skills. These skills will follow a child throughout their school years and into the rest of their life. The musical field grew parallel to the fields of painting and sculpture, all three categories experienced a dramatic increase in interest. Consequentially, the sudden flow of finances allowed the musicians to examine, modify, and renew their standards and methods. Baroque musicquickly developed into a very individual style. During the nearly one hundred and fifty years that the Baroque period lasted the basic style did not change, in fact it was simple built upon. Francis Schaeffer advises us that the arts are ways to understand the society and politics of the past, given the distinct correlation between the art world and musicworld we can tell that the Baroque period was a time of peaceful renovation. The driving ideology of Baroque music was the need to communicate. Baroque music has many characteristics that set it apart. Early baroque music uses extreme instrument contrast to create a dramatic emotional climax. Later musicians developed a method of succinctly building a climax. The other noticeable difference is the key instruments are tuned to. The quality of instruments has significantly increased since the Baroque period, to mimic the original sound of baroque pieces orchestras often tune their instruments down about half a key. Melody and harmony were emphasized across the board instead of in individual genres. Another key characteristic was the attitude of the composers, in desperation to ... Dehumanization In Bartleby The Scrivener The character of Bartleby in Herman Melville s novella Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street is a person who refuses to become an object in capitalistic society. Initially, he is the perfect example of the objectification and mechanization of humans in the workplace. In essence, Bartleby is a machine that continually produces. Ultimately, he begins to resist the mind numbing repetition of his tasks and the mechanization of his life. The other main character, the narrator, is a facilitator of the capitalistic machine. He dehumanizes his employees by ensuring that their free will is denied in the workplace using objectifying nicknames, providing a workplace devoid of human touch and connection,; and perpetuating mechanized, repetitive work. Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivenershows the dehumanizing effects of working in a capitalistic environment and ultimately suggests that one must conform to a standard way of life or will cease to exist. One of the first ways in which Melville begins the dehumanization of the workers is through the narrator s use of condescending nicknames for his employees: Turkey, Ginger Nut and Nippers. The reader does not know their actual names and never learns them. Their nicknames are what becomes the important commodity to the novella. Arguably the existence of hatcheries is directly responsible for offsetting the salmon species composition of the entire North Pacific. The reason why? Wild populations often possess resistance to the parasites and diseases of their native streams that are not found in the foreign hatchery salmon. In addition, the decreasing quality of salmon also negatively influences recreational activities such as sport fishing, a valuable component of both the Alaskan economy and the economies of the pacific north west.
