Jewish Tolerance In Medieval Christian Society

JEWISH TOLERANCE IN MUSLIM SPAIN AND MEDIEVAL CHRISTIAN SOCIETY
After the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 Jews found themselves in the hands of tolerant Muslims in Al
Andalus. Muslim tolerance of Jews played an important role in the advancement of Jewish studies as
from this came great philosophers and leaders and the creation of the Talmud. When compared to Jews
in the medieval Christian society, Jews in Muslim Spain in the Golden Age were more tolerated and
thus able exercise their freedom comparably more that in Rome. Firstly, Jews in medieval christian
society when compared to those in Muslim Spain were less tolerated. This is because they were being

In medieval Christian society as the Jewish population grew, Christians became more unsettled. They
began to see Jews as a threat and their tolerance dwindled. Reasons for this sudden change is mainly
based on the Jews disregard of Christ and Christianity. They blaspheme against Christ... and their
religious book called the Talmud in which they considered as law, had statements that relate to [the]
blasphemy of Christ . As a result over time, despite their stance on protecting Jews, Christians became
hostile towards Jews. Events such as the the first crusade in 1095 in which Jews in Rhineland were

were given freedom with minimal limitations to practice their religion. Jews in particular were so
much tolerated that their Dhimmi status went unacknowledged in certain periods. These periods are
known as the Golden Age in Jewish history and in this time Jews flourished as many great leaders
arose who were experts in philosophy, poetry, Hebrew language and the Talmud. To muslims, Jews
were simply second class citizens that could be trusted to lead and give excellent advice to Calphs.
One could argue that Muslim tolerance of Jews equate with that of medieval Christians due to the
uproar of anti semitism during the Golden Age but one delves further you will find that these moments

Neanderthals:
Are We Really That Different?

Introduction
Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology.
Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past
(Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around
how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are an
important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and similarity
between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many biological
anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash: Negative
Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been unjustifiably
placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative evidence, a form of
evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus demonstrating that
Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day humans in intelligence.
Article Summary John D. Speth authored the article, News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts
Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence, a piece where Speth argues that Neanderthals have not
been properly proven of inferior cognitive abilities. Speth says,

not worth it. They do this by using descriptive words, and directly telling us what happened. What s it
Like to be a Gang Member? by Bill Lee, portrays how gang life works, and his own struggles. Bill in
this story describes his gang life. The message he sends is that gang life is risky and can have
consequences. One way to support this is this quote, I was nothing but frightened. This shows that he is

The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil
Isidore E. Sharpe
Professor Kenneth Yelverton
OTS 102

The Minor Prophet Hosea
The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing
prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to
observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew
root as Hosea. (Jensen, 6739) His father name Beeri, a middle class merchant, a farmer or cattleman.
It is uncertain about the born place of Hosea; it could have been in a town of Ephraim or Manasseh.
Due to his style of writing, the Prophet Hosea as a young man lived near soil.
Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the
prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt,
short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, His message
is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. (Scroggie). The heartbeat of God is the
tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of thus saith the LORD several times.
(Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a prophet.
Hosea may have been one with tender hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a prophet,
the prophet of the broken heart; the weeping prophet; and the prophet of Israel s zero hour, because
the nation had sunk to

transformational leadership has a stronger effect in teams that use only computer based

team performance. This source was of particular use as I had limited information on transformational
leadership and it applied the theory to both virtual and face to face teams. The information provided

Sherlock Holmes And The Red-Headed League And A Scandal In...
In the Sherlock Holmes stories The Red Headed League and A Scandal in Bohemia Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle explores mysteries through the eyes of Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes s assistant. Holmes is able
to amaze the people around him with his deductive abilities and can quickly determine aspects of a
person s life by just looking at them. This allows him to solve mysteries that others cannot wrap their
heads around. He uses his skill to first help the King of Bohemia recover a picture of him with a
former lover. Next, he investigates the disappearance of the Red Headed League. In both of these
mysteries he experiences a unique challenge due to the intelligence of his opponents and the unusual
situation surrounding the case. The cunning and cleverness of Holmes, Irene Adler and the
conspirators of the Red Headed League are shown in the stories The Red Headed League and A
Scandal in Bohemia . Sherlock Holmes s intelligence is demonstrated in both The Red Headed League
and A Scandal in Bohemia . During A Scandal in Bohemia he first demonstrates his intuitive thinking
by figuring out that Count Kramm, the man introducing him on the case, is actually the King of
Bohemia himself. This shows that he is able to make a quick determination about people s lives just
by having a brief conversation with them. This allows Holmes to solve mysteries that others cannot by
simply looking at a suspect or location associated with the scenario. He uses this ability later in the
story to find where the incriminating photo of the king with Adler is. He does this by creating a
situation for himself where he will be able to get into Adler s home. He then fakes a fire to see where
Adler goes first so he can see where she keeps her most valuable possession, the photo. Holmes states
When a woman thinks that her house is on fire, her instinct is at once to rush to the thing which she
values the most... Now it was clear to me that our lady of to day had nothing in the house more
precious to her then what we are questing for (Doyle 19). This line of thinking shows that Holmes
knows how to get people to inadvertently give him the information that he needs by putting them in
the right situation and observing what they do. This skill

Example Of Behavior Modification
The behavior that I will be choosing to modify is the increase in studying. This is a behavior that is
extremely beneficial to me because I not only learn what I need to know, but I learn how manage time
better and how to set my priorities better. Studying is something I need to modify because studying to
me is something that is difficult to do, mainly because I feel it is like a chore more than anything else.
My mindset on studying is my biggest issue and is the biggest reason studying is a behavior
modification I need to increase. The most I want to study a day is at least two hours for at least two
classes, so a total of four hours a day of studying. Most of the time when I study, I get sidetracked
easily and end up using up time on something else rather than studying. The antecedent of this
behavior may be the problem, because I am not putting myself in an environment where I can study
the best or potentially learn the best. The consequence of that is that I end up not studying affectively
enough for my classes and not doing as good as I would have liked to. ... Show more content on

When I start to find studying to be boring, I find or do something that is more entertaining to me and
compromise time studying for time doing something fun. I put myself in an environment that lets
myself do something I find interesting when I do get bored, and as a consequence I lose time in my
overall studying time and my focus on the subject I am learning. My mindset starting off when I study
a problem too because I see it as a chore and that makes me not want to do it. My mindset for studying
is the key that leads to the consequences talked about

Language Assessments For English Language Learners Essay
Spinelli Chapter 5 Oral and English Language Learner/Bilingual
This chapter identifies language assessments for English Language Learners and Bilingual students.
Over the next several years, the United States educational system will see a dramatic increase in
culturally and linguistically diverse students from various racial and ethnic minority groups.
This chapter is a must read if you have limited knowledge about teaching culturally or linguistically
diverse (CLD) students. This past year, I spent several months filling in for an ESL teacher. However,
since I am not ESL certified I could not sub more than fifteen consecutive days (not a problem when
the school district is short subs and I was frequently pulled). This invaluable opportunity gave me an
enormous amount of experience and yet still left me wanting to know more about how I can better
educate CLD students. After reading this chapter, I have gained a better understanding of cultural and
linguistic diversity and assessments used to evaluate students from minority backgrounds.
Additionally, I believe this is what makes this chapter truly unique. Over the next several years, I think
we are going to see an increase of CLD students in the learning environment. It is imperative to the
educational environment to learn how to best serve these students and avoid inaccurate referrals and
misdiagnosis.
Spinelli begins the chapter by introducing speech and language disorders and how they can affect

The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living In Socrates Apology
Final Paper
In The Apology, Socrates famously asserted that, the unexamined life is not worth living and was
afterward sentence to death. I agree with Socrates declaration because, of some fine points and details
that was stated. Socrates believed in the love of wisdom and that it should be pursued above all the
other claims in philosophy. Socrates decided that he is wise because he consider that he does not think
he know what he does not know. Socrates is known for questioning others and that it is the duty of the
God to continue with what Socrates is good at; questioning people to show people who believe they
are wise that they are really not.

The reason I believe that they are going to be a more contented person is because, people who
question themselves have a sense of where they belong in this world and for people who understand
their place in this world also have all the context and fundamentals of their life put together. Nobody
going to have all the answers you are seeking for and no one is free from the trouble and stress, but
those who have a sense in where they belong will live a happier life. For example, there are two
person in this world and only one of them have a map. Obviously the one with the map will figure out
their destination faster than the one without the map. People who spend their time on this world
without examining their life is like have somnambulism. The reason for living is to have a purpose, to
experience, to gain knowledge, and to have a good judgement on your decision in life. Without these

Essentially, Romo is using his vision to view the players. He is also using his primary visual cortex.
When he spots Dez his primary visual cortex receives what he saw from the retina. The cerebellum is

The Power Of Isis Through Social Media Essay
The Power of ISIS Through Social Media As social media has become more prevalent in our society,
terrorist groups, such as ISIS, presence through platforms such as Twitter or Facebook has increased
as well. Over 46,000 accounts on Twitter were ISIS supporters as of 2015 (Merchant). These type of
extremist accounts target users by promoting the dignifying aspect of ISIS instead of the gory details
about their jihadist culture. This strategy is very effective on younger generations who appeal to the
struggle of the messages displayed by the Islamic State. Since social media apps such as, Twitter or
Facebook, are so accessible, these terrorist organizations have an even easier time taking advantage of
the opportunity propagated by the companies. Social Media provides an outlet for terrorist groups
because it gives them a medium to recruit people worldwide and implements and system where they
can become untraceable. ISIS is constantly changing but, the surplus of western recruits ISIS has
access to through social media is constant. Most terrorist groups only have a small effect on social
media, while ISIS ...execution videos received tens of thousands of views within hours of going online

The Future Of Biotechnology Through The Hands Of Innovation
The future of biotechnology lies in the hands of innovation. The seed industry is a primary example of
how utilization of innovation can globalize any business. Innovation does not come easy; it requires
the right people and environment to prosper. This environment is fostered through the organizational
culture of the business. Being able to manage this culture becomes a greater challenge as a business
becomes globalized. Collaboration amongst people of different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs can
be a daunting charge, but has been shown to increase innovation productivity. Increasing innovation in

Ideas and concepts communicated through various teams are progressive stepping stones towards
change, which can unleash the full potential of creativity (213). It is not a wild stream of ideas that
will help innovation move forward, but rather a very well focused concept. Creating a clear and
concise system allows people to truly focus on innovations that are aligned with the organization s
objectives and reduces the energy and time spent on incoherent ideas.
In order to produce sustainable innovation a company needs to create a culture that will bring forth
new ideas. Culture can be defined as a set of unwritten rules, shared beliefs, and mental models of
people (236). This culture needs to harness creativity and renew the company by focusing on things
that make it successful, conserving best practices that exist, and ensuring innovation investments are
being well used while allowing employees the freedom to innovate. In a discussion paper written by
Ceren Ozgen, Peter Nijkamp, and Jacques Poot, The Impact of Cultural Diversity on Innovation:
Evidence from Dutch Firm Level Data, they concluded that firms open to change nurture creativeness
and are more prone to innovation. Businesses that develop this type of culture are more apt to
implement new products and process innovations (17).

Cash Registers
Lately cash registers were the one game around, but nowadays companies have a lot more choices.
Changing those antiquated cash registers with modern point of sales devices posesses variety of
important benefits, including:
1. Point of sales systems simplify the accounting process. Old fashioned cash registers drive
accountants to evaluate a huge selection of receipts, but with a spot of sales system financial staff can
merely use the built in accounts or create their own.
2. Unlike a check out, a spot of deal system often includes a standard inventory management system.
Store owners may use a spot of sales system to keep tabs on their biggest retailers and reorder those
products when stock gets low.
3. It is not hard to research past transactions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Point of sales devices provide faster service than old fashioned cash registers. Every section of the
process, from authorizing a debit card transaction to producing a person receipt, is faster on a spot of
sales device.
7. Customers acquire more interesting itemized receipts with a spot of sales devices. Many cash
registers can only just print the time and the quantity of the deal, but since point of deal devices are
linked in to the inventory control system they provides much more specific information, including a
explanation of that, the list price and the sales price.
8. Point of deal devices can lessen user errors. Striking an incorrect key is always a risk when buzzing
a deal, but point of sales devices have built in bank checks to ensure that the info is entered
effectively.
9. You can view real time inventory with a spot of sales device, something that even the best cash
registers just can t do. Actually, many companies have discovered that implementing a spot of sales
system practically reduces the necessity for an expensive hand count.
10. The maintenance and repair costs tend to be lower on a spot of deal device when compared to a
cash register. The amount of companies that repair cash registers is dwindling, and which means that
repair costs can be somewhat high. There are numerous suppliers who repair point of sales devices,
which will keep repair costs

Controversy Over Hand Writing
In a world of evolution, it is often found difficult to accept a new trade or skill that partially substitutes
a skill so commonly used and accepted today. As generations pass, people discover new things that
revival the beliefs of the past and handwriting is not exempt from this course of evolution. People
have hit that critical point of rivalry between handwriting and its challenger typing. Handwriting is a
skill known by people for centuries and even prior to handwriting people painted or carved to record
information. In today s world, typing keeps becoming more of a key player and triumphs over hand
writing in many aspects. It is imperative to understand the importance of typing, as much of what

record as fast as the speed of thought, but to also focus more on the content of the work rather than the
legibility. Handwriting has better recall however typing is merely a different form of recording and as
such must be treated differently when studying. Overall typing is merely another form of recording

Nightcrawler A Sociopath Analysis
It was a pleasant surprise seeing that NightCrawler was one of the film choices for this psychopathy
paper, I saw it in theaters when it was originally released and it has been one of my all time favorites
ever since. Even after rewatching it countless times since, the movie still never fails to keep my
attention. One thing is for sure, Jake Gyllenhaal s character, Louis Bloom, is a bona fide psychopath. I
will go into greater detail about the reasoning for this later, after discussing what exactly being a
psychopath entails and the different traits that are used to characterize them. Believe it or not, many
people in today s society cannot really distinguish between the two terms, psychopath and sociopath.
Back in the early 1800s, the doctors that were working with mental patients began to realize that some
of their patients who appeared outwardly normal had what they termed a moral depravity or moral
insanity . These patients seemed to have no sense of the rights of other people, or even of ethics in
general. The term psychopath was initially applied to these individuals around the beginning of the
twentieth century. In the 1930s, the term switched to sociopath to focus more heavily on the
detrimental effect that these people can have on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hitler s Use Of Prehistory Analysis
In the broadest sense, members of the National Socialist/Nazi party were using archaeology to trace
the earliest Germanic culture in an attempt to create a place of origin for the Germanic people.
However, this later was aimed at using archaeological finds as propaganda and justification for actions
taken by the Nazi party. For example, at the start of the war, finds made in Poland were used as an
excuse for German occupation under the grounds that it was once German land. Ironically, Hitler was
not one of the main supporters of prehistory and archaeology owing to the fact that he saw it as a way
to show Germany being inferior and a primitive culture. In his attempt to create a more advanced
impressive history of the German people, Hitler was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably one of the most iconic examples of the representation of Arian ideology is the Nazi
swastika. Even prior to its adoption by Hitler, the Swastika was interpreted to represent the concept of
the Arian race. As far back as 1880 Michal von Zmigrodski Ludvig Müller claimed the Swastika to be
of Indo European origin. He theorized that it represented the ancient Arian sun god. Taking this
concept further, he stated that the swastika originated in the German homeland, linking Germany with
the home of the supposed Aryan race. (Mees, 2008: 57 58) Thus, when a Swastika like symbol was
discovered in other areas of the world such as during excavations at the Greek city of Troy, the Aryan
identity of the swastika was once again used to propagate the spread of German influence. (Mees,
2008: 59) This led to individuals such as Hitler making claims that the German/Aryan race had claim
to these areas, having once been the land of their ancestors. By the time the Swastika was adopted by
the Nazi party, it had come to represent a purely Arian symbol. This ideology all stemmed from the
study of prehistory, leading to the resulting excavations in which the SS Ahnenerbe sought to
create/find evidence in support of the theorized Nordic pagan solar worship. With these findings now
representing the Arian/Nordic race, and by association the German people, any area that produced

Tartuffe Character Analysis
Candide is a very simple minded man and is easy to persuade, hence his name. When Candide got
kicked out of the castle he met two unarmed men. They offered to feed him and give him money,
Candide was shocked and delighted at the gesture. He thought to himself that Pangloss teachings must
be true. He made a mistake by trusting the men and in the process was nearly beaten to death.
Another instance where Candide drew conclusions about people from appearance alone, is his
encounter with The Abbe. The Abbe set Candide up by pestering Candide to tell him about
Cunegonde. He wrote a letter saying it was from Cunegonde but when Candide went to meet her he
was met by a police officer that threatened to arrest him. Candide finally learns how to think ... Show

Orion already knows his son is a hot head and is more of the outspoken one of the household so he
judges the situation based on his character as to make it seem as he is evil and is jealous of Tartuffe.
Tartuffe begins to play with the situation and begs on his knees for Orion to go easy on Damis but this
act of begging only causes Orion to get even angrier and he banished his son.
In another instance where Orion believes the holy man Tartuffe is so great and as he is defending him,
he tries to name virtues Tartuffe possesses, but he can only say, He s a man... a man who... an
excellent man. (Moliere ) This statement shows how Orion is disconnected from reality. He is blindly
following a man that only speaks of things that is not true. Orions view of what it means to be a saint
is twisted. To him it means to leave the love and cares of the world behind, which is the reason when
he hears of his wife not being well he seems to not care. The result of this personality mistake almost
causes Orion and his whole family to be evicted out of their house. Orion learned to not only trust in
his family more, but to not be so blind to the point where his life s in

Baroque Art And Art
The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which
highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was
already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was
then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and
good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of
the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor
and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and
textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture,
and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court
of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721,
stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the
former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the
germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Another factor that played into the
Rococo was the fact that women had a bit more authority in the sense that they were allowed to hold
positions of power. This is why Madame de Pompadour was incredibly well known as she

Partition Is The Gateway For Mass Hatred Between Hindus...
Partition itself was the gateway for mass hatred between Hindus and Muslims. Following partition as
majority of Hindus, Sikh, and Muslim relocated into India and Pakistan based on their respective
religions, the Hindu majority being represented by India and the Muslim majority represented by
Pakistan. Several people did go to their respective sides following the partition, feeling as though the
two religious groups truly were separate people, however not every one took part in this migration,
some Muslims and Hindus chose not to relocate despite their religious interests. The short story Toba

Manto uses his main character Bishan Singh s, a formerly wealthy landowner in Toba Tek Singh, a
place in Pakistan, with a fragile sense of what the partition involved, to highlight the partitions
negative impact on an individual s sense of loyalty to where they feel they should and have always
belonged. Manto and Sathyu use their stories to show the complex relationships of individuals to their
homeland and the large implications religious politics have on their social, familial and ancestral
relationships in South Asia. Partition led to the unraveling of several investments that Muslims had to
support their lives in India before partition. The film Garahm Hawa (1975) highlights the shoe
manufacturing business of the Mirzas, a Muslim family living in a house filled with ancestral history
for their family, in India. Salim Mirza attempts to acquire business loans from the banks and
moneylenders while in India but is turned down simply because he is Muslim. The film shows how
Salim and his family face terrible misfortunes because of their Muslim loyalties, the family loses their
historic home and one by one they begin to move away. Initially, the film shows that even though they
are Muslims, the family respect and care for India, until the country continues to tear them apart for
who they are. Sathyu uses

The Potter Box Model Of Ethical Reasoning
While the journalism profession might appear to be as straightforward as black and white, there are a
handful of grey areas that raise ethical concerns. These areas can range from something as simple as
the correct attribution of information, to as complex as the controversial practice of native
advertisements. Journalists, however, have access to an abundance of resources, including multiple
sets of guidelines, which can help them make a difficult decision about an ethical dilemma. Whether
they are filing stories or creating media campaigns, journalists should consult these codes of ethics to
ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibility as watchdogs of society. Some of the more
commonly referred to guidelines include the Bok Model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animal rights organization should seek different ways to convey their message to the public.
Advocacy groups may not be associated directly with the journalism and media industries, yet it
should still consult with ethical guidelines pertaining to media related projects. By taking a moment to
step back from the campaign and view it from the perspective of the community, as suggested in the
Bok Model, PETA would have identified the contentious nature of the images. The Potter Box model
would also have been helpful for PETA, considering that it helps organizations break down an issue
by identifying facts, values, principles, and loyalties. While this campaign has been banned in
Germany and remains detested in other parts of the world, the animal rights organization is not
affected. It continues to move forward with controversial media campaigns such as its Go Veg
movement that compared women to meat and its advertisement featuring Joanna Krupa modeling
nude with a crucifix, which received significant objection from the Catholic Church. Since advocacy
organizations such as PETA are not legally bound to ethical guidelines, they are not pressured to abide
by existing ones. However, if there was significant public support, advocacy organizations could be
subject to adhering to ethical codes that would force them to consider the potential

How Is Loss Used In Mid Term Break
How is Loss Experienced in the poems Mid Term Break and November? In both the poems
November, by Simon Armitage and Mid Term Break, by Seamus Heaney, the persona is compelled
into that position. They both describe loss as a traumatic experience, which the persona tries to detach
themselves from in order to accept the reality. In November, the persona is burdened with guilt and
self blame. Realising that the situation is inevitable illuminates his fears of ageing and death. Mid
Term Break is an autobiographical poem where the persona (Seamus Heany) maintains a very formal
and distant tone in order to push aside his overwhelming grief. In both poems, the persona tries to

Heaney places the powerful monostich at the end, which intensifies the sombre mood into a powerful

inescapable horror. By rhyming the phrase bumper knocked him clear with his age on the monostich

Every morning, my parents drink at least one diet pepsi. But now, diet soda brands, especially Diet
Coke and Diet Pepsi sales have declined. Diet Coke sales have fallen 3.4 percent and Diet Pepsi sales
have fallen 5.7 percent over the past year (Estrel). One of the factors is that people are leaning towards
tea, juice, and sports drinks. For many people, the reason why they are not buying diet soda is because
they do not think that the artificial sweetener, aspartame, is good for their health. Diet Pepsi s response
to those concerns came when Pepsi announced that beginning in August 2015, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine

Trade Reforms Policy Impacts on Non-Oil Exports in Nigeria
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background to the Study Trade policy is defined as, a
government s policy controlling foreign trade and the central objective of trade policy is to provide
protection for domestic industries and reduce the perceived dependence on imports; a corollary to that
objective was a desire to reduce the level of unemployment and generate more revenues from the non
oil sector. Non oil export sector in Nigeria constitutes products of agriculture, industry and services
that are exported by Nigeria (Ojowu, 1989). Agriculture is the primary non oil product sector, which
provides food, and fiber for the economy, while industry, as the modern sector, produces manufactured
goods. The non oil export sector of the Nigerian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2. Statement of the Problem Non oil exports are made up of the agricultural sector, manufacturing
sector and the service sector of an economy. Nigeria, like many other developing economies has over
the years pursued the objective of accelerating the rate of development in the economy in a bid to
transform into a developed country. The economy held so much hope for attainment of such goals
within a short period of time and this was even before the advent of oil as the main export commodity.
These potentials were so much that Nigeria was seen to becoming the most industrialized African
economy within a short period of time. The foundation of these potentials was laid by the agricultural
sector which effectively and efficiently played its traditional role which economic theory predicts it
should play in the path of economic development. According to Johnston and Mellor (1961), the roles
are as follows; Product contribution (source of food), Market contribution (buying and selling to earn
a living), Factor contribution (serves as raw materials for industries) and Foreign exchange
contribution (through exportation). Despite the prominence of the oil sector in the past three decades,
agriculture remains arguably the largest and most important sector as its contribution to the gross
domestic product has remained stable between 30 and 42 percent, also it employs about 65 per cent

Spread Of Christianity In Ancient Rome
Ancient Rome Ancient Rome s events led to spread of Christianity around the world. To begin, Rome
did not like Christianity until Cincinnatus a well known and respected leader baptized before his
death. This was a great awakening to many Roman s because they saw Cincinnatus as a role model.
Christian leaders in Rome were sent to jail in which they would face death later for not believing in
roman gods.
Christianity went from two hundred thousand Christians to 6 million in only a couple of years. This
new movement scared Roman leaders. Pliny was the governor of Bithynia Et Pontus within the
Roman Empire; he wrote letters to other roman leaders expressing his awareness of the rapid spread of
Christianity. He was aware that Christians did not

SNITCHING FOR RICHES: WHISTLEBLOWER BOUNTIES AND THE $96 MILLION CHERYL
ECKARD SETTLEMENT
Introduction Bounties have been employed by United States government over the history of our
Nation. As differentiated from rewards, which offer payment for accomplishment of a specific act
such as providing information that leads to the capture of a particular criminal, bounties are tailored to
encourage the services or actions by some class of persons in pursuance of a governmental purpose.
One of the earliest examples in the United States is the grant of bounty land grants during both the
Revolutionary War and Civil War. For the purpose of encouraging longer military service, this bounty
system would offer land to men fit for service in return ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FCA enforces this statute, in part, by allowing a private person, typically an employee or other
agent of the violator with particular knowledge of a violation, to bring suit on behalf of the
government, otherwise known as a qui tam action. This qui tam plaintiff, referred to as a relator, is
entitled to a bounty between 15% and 25% of the settlement amount in the situation where the
government proceeds with the action brought by the relator. In the case where the government doesn t
proceed with the action, the relator is entitled to between 25% and 30% of the settlement amount.
Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA and
thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar was
basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been publicly
disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment in 2010,
this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed or the
relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the primary
defense in FCA actions. However, with amendment in 2010, the power to dismiss was effectively
shifted from the court to the government with the addition of the language unless opposed by the
Government .

Essay on Attacks on the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania
On August 7, 1998, two U.S. embassies were attacked almost simultaneously. One was in Nairobi,
Kenya and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attack in Kenya involved both a truck bomb and
at least two suicide bombers. The truck was at the back entrance of the embassy when the bomb went
off, and the damage was critical. This attack had more casualties than the bombing in Tanzania
because the truck that contained the bomb was able to get into the inner embassy compound. Also, the
Nairobi embassy was close to the center of the city which was more populated and led to more deaths.

ambassador that was injured in the bombing. She had been meeting outside with Joseph Kamotho,
Kenya s trade minister. Their first thought from hearing the smaller blast was that it must be the noise
from construction. Another victim, Linda Howard, witnessed the explosion around 10:40 A.M. She
was on the fourth floor of the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and was in a meeting. Soon
after she heard the small explosion, she suddenly realized that all of the windows were currently being
blasted, the roof was caving in, and smoke seemed to appear from every direction. Before she had
analyzed what was going on, she was being yelled at by Embassy guards to get down on the floor.
After fifteen minutes of crawling around without being able to see, they had reached the ground floor.
What Howard saw next terrified her. She saw lifeless bodies, fires everywhere, and the screams of
terrified people. Bill Bar who is director of the U.S. Information Service in Kenya, was also at the
same meeting as Linda Howard. He also recalls hearing a thump and thought it was possibly the sound
of a grenade being thrown at the embassy. Some also recall hearing gunfire outside of the embassy
before the big explosion. Al Qaeda is the international terrorist group responsible for these two
attacks. The mastermind behind the attacks was named Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. He was recruited
by Osama Bin Laden who was a Saudi millionaire. Osama was the leader that funded and supported

A Cultural Diversity Training Program
With many organizations expanding and becoming more global organizations, whose businesses deal
with other countries, cultural diversity becomes more challenging. That is why it is important for
organizations to create a cultural diversity training program to encourage employee from different
backgrounds to come together and learn each other s belief system which can enhance the
organization s ability to problem solve. To do this successfully an organization needs to create an
organizational climate that promotes a learning organization. Which learning organization was first

By having a training program in place of cultural and diversity areas can help prevent the organization
in getting sued or prevent a major lawsuit. That is why organizational leaders are charged with making
sure they are in compliant with Federal and State laws. If an employee feels they have been treated
differently, because of their culture, age, color, religion, or physical disabilities, this could lead to legal
trouble for the organization (Kesee, 2010). One of the organizations that prohibit organizations from
discriminating against workers for any reason is the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission. Human resources can do research on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission s website, who does provide information on ways for organizations to avoid
discrimination for employer and employees (Keese, 2010). The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission website also contains information on employment laws. Along with reviewing U.S. law,
human resources will also have to look into the legislation of the country the organization has offices

Kennelly Citizen Youth
II. Dominant Narratives and Findings of Kennelly s Citizen Youth The terms citizen and activist are
often used broadly. Without any historical, social or political context, the fundamental reasons that
evoke political participation are usually lost. Eventually, notions of the citizen activist become
generalized across social and political spectrums. For youth, modern discourses surrounding activism
lacks the differentiation between citizen and activist. As a result, the many underlying reasons for
political participation become almost invisible. In the book, Jacqueline Kennelly explores the
importance of what it means to be a certain kind of youth citizen in the twenty first century (p. 3).
Furthermore, she explores how youth activism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
15). Without understanding certain historical processes that shape notions of an idyllic citizen, like
those discussed in the previous paragraph, we cannot understand the current exclusions that lead to
activism. Specifically, Kennelly argues that the constraints of neoliberalism are reinforced differently
through what she calls the habitus. The habitus is a system of dispositions that create certain
conditions for youth activism (p. 75). In this chapter of the book, Kennelly interviews several
participants to understand how the habitus acts as an influencing agent. For example, by growing up in
a home that emphasizes social justice (i.e. having activist parents), an individual could be predisposed
to the importance of activism (p. 79). At the same time, certain predispositions may also encourage
activism. Along various racial, cultural and ethnic fault lines, activism may be encouraged for the sake
of equality. Among many examples, Kennelly uses the example of Sanna, a Kenyan Canadian who
feels the need to explain she is more than just Canadian based on her appearance (p. 85). In this
aspect, the both habitus examples conflict in origin, yet both create a sense of social justice. This
paragraph largely relies on Pierre Bordieu s notion that every field contains a certain

  • 2. Jewish Tolerance In Medieval Christian Society Shenecia Brown Hebr.211 paper #1 JEWISH TOLERANCE IN MUSLIM SPAIN AND MEDIEVAL CHRISTIAN SOCIETY After the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 Jews found themselves in the hands of tolerant Muslims in Al Andalus. Muslim tolerance of Jews played an important role in the advancement of Jewish studies as from this came great philosophers and leaders and the creation of the Talmud. When compared to Jews in the medieval Christian society, Jews in Muslim Spain in the Golden Age were more tolerated and thus able exercise their freedom comparably more that in Rome. Firstly, Jews in medieval christian society when compared to those in Muslim Spain were less tolerated. This is because they were being forced to convert, denied certain rights and prevented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In medieval Christian society as the Jewish population grew, Christians became more unsettled. They began to see Jews as a threat and their tolerance dwindled. Reasons for this sudden change is mainly based on the Jews disregard of Christ and Christianity. They blaspheme against Christ... and their religious book called the Talmud in which they considered as law, had statements that relate to [the] blasphemy of Christ . As a result over time, despite their stance on protecting Jews, Christians became hostile towards Jews. Events such as the the first crusade in 1095 in which Jews in Rhineland were attacked by...However in Muslim territories, things were much different as Jews and other minorities were given freedom with minimal limitations to practice their religion. Jews in particular were so much tolerated that their Dhimmi status went unacknowledged in certain periods. These periods are known as the Golden Age in Jewish history and in this time Jews flourished as many great leaders arose who were experts in philosophy, poetry, Hebrew language and the Talmud. To muslims, Jews were simply second class citizens that could be trusted to lead and give excellent advice to Calphs. One could argue that Muslim tolerance of Jews equate with that of medieval Christians due to the uproar of anti semitism during the Golden Age but one delves further you will find that these moments were stirred by radical groups and not by the ... • 3. Human Nature, Human, And The Human Past Neanderthals: Are We Really That Different? Mitch Charlton Student #250833199 Anthropology 1020E 001 5A Alexis Dolphin November 9 2015 Introduction Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology. Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past (Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are an important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and similarity between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many biological anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been unjustifiably placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative evidence, a form of evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus demonstrating that Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day humans in intelligence. Article Summary John D. Speth authored the article, News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence, a piece where Speth argues that Neanderthals have not been properly proven of inferior cognitive abilities. • 5. The Minor Prophet Hosea As A Young Man Lived Near Soil Isidore E. Sharpe Professor Kenneth Yelverton OTS 102 18 September 2015 The Minor Prophet Hosea The Prophet Hosea is believed to the successor of the Prophet Amos. Hosea was the only writing prophet of Israel to Israel. The name Hosea (Heb., Hoshea) means salvation. It is interesting to observe that the names Joshua (Num 13:16) and Jesus (Matt 1:21) are derived from the same Hebrew root as Hosea. Hosea most likely did not attend a school of prophets, or have any formal training in a school of the prophets, but you could not tell that he did not go to the school of prophets. Hosea writing was abrupt, short, and sharp. His writings show him to be a very knowledgeable man. Scroggie says, His message is one of the most profound and spiritual in the Old Testament. (Scroggie). The heartbeat of God is the tone of the author, throughout the book. He declared the words of thus saith the LORD several times. (Jensen, 6780) It is not known originally, when God called him to be a prophet. Hosea may have been one with tender hearted prophets toward Israel. He had many titles as a prophet, the prophet of the broken heart; the weeping prophet; and the prophet of Israel s zero hour, because the nation had sunk to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyses indicated that the most effective leaders were those who increased their transformational leadership in virtual teams. Team member ratings suggest that transformational leadership has a stronger effect in teams that use only computer based communication, and leaders who increase their transformational leadership achieve higher levels of team performance. This source was of particular use as I had limited information on transformational leadership and it applied the theory to both virtual and face to face teams. The information provided gave me an understanding as to why transformational leadership is vital when interaction between group members is limited and high levels of trust in team members is required. 1. • 8. Sherlock Holmes And The Red-Headed League And A Scandal In... In the Sherlock Holmes stories The Red Headed League and A Scandal in Bohemia Sir Arthur Conan Doyle explores mysteries through the eyes of Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes s assistant. Holmes is able to amaze the people around him with his deductive abilities and can quickly determine aspects of a person s life by just looking at them. This allows him to solve mysteries that others cannot wrap their heads around. He uses his skill to first help the King of Bohemia recover a picture of him with a former lover. Next, he investigates the disappearance of the Red Headed League. In both of these mysteries he experiences a unique challenge due to the intelligence of his opponents and the unusual situation surrounding the case. The cunning and cleverness of Holmes, Irene Adler and the conspirators of the Red Headed League are shown in the stories The Red Headed League and A Scandal in Bohemia . Sherlock Holmes s intelligence is demonstrated in both The Red Headed League and A Scandal in Bohemia . During A Scandal in Bohemia he first demonstrates his intuitive thinking by figuring out that Count Kramm, the man introducing him on the case, is actually the King of Bohemia himself. This shows that he is able to make a quick determination about people s lives just by having a brief conversation with them. This allows Holmes to solve mysteries that others cannot by simply looking at a suspect or location associated with the scenario. He uses this ability later in the story to find where the incriminating photo of the king with Adler is. He does this by creating a situation for himself where he will be able to get into Adler s home. He then fakes a fire to see where Adler goes first so he can see where she keeps her most valuable possession, the photo. Holmes states When a woman thinks that her house is on fire, her instinct is at once to rush to the thing which she values the most... Now it was clear to me that our lady of to day had nothing in the house more precious to her then what we are questing for (Doyle 19). This line of thinking shows that Holmes knows how to get people to inadvertently give him the information that he needs by putting them in the right situation and observing what they do. • 9. Example Of Behavior Modification The behavior that I will be choosing to modify is the increase in studying. This is a behavior that is extremely beneficial to me because I not only learn what I need to know, but I learn how manage time better and how to set my priorities better. Studying is something I need to modify because studying to me is something that is difficult to do, mainly because I feel it is like a chore more than anything else. My mindset on studying is my biggest issue and is the biggest reason studying is a behavior modification I need to increase. The most I want to study a day is at least two hours for at least two classes, so a total of four hours a day of studying. Most of the time when I study, I get sidetracked easily and end up using up time on something else rather than studying. The antecedent of this behavior may be the problem, because I am not putting myself in an environment where I can study the best or potentially learn the best. The consequence of that is that I end up not studying affectively enough for my classes and not doing as good as I would have liked to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Language Assessments For English Language Learners Essay Spinelli Chapter 5 Oral and English Language Learner/Bilingual This chapter identifies language assessments for English Language Learners and Bilingual students. Over the next several years, the United States educational system will see a dramatic increase in culturally and linguistically diverse students from various racial and ethnic minority groups. This chapter is a must read if you have limited knowledge about teaching culturally or linguistically diverse (CLD) students. This past year, I spent several months filling in for an ESL teacher. However, since I am not ESL certified I could not sub more than fifteen consecutive days (not a problem when the school district is short subs and I was frequently pulled). This invaluable opportunity gave me an enormous amount of experience and yet still left me wanting to know more about how I can better educate CLD students. After reading this chapter, I have gained a better understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity and assessments used to evaluate students from minority backgrounds. Additionally, I believe this is what makes this chapter truly unique. Over the next several years, I think we are going to see an increase of CLD students in the learning environment. It is imperative to the educational environment to learn how to best serve these students and avoid inaccurate referrals and misdiagnosis. Spinelli begins the chapter by introducing speech and language disorders and how they can affect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living In Socrates Apology Final Paper In The Apology, Socrates famously asserted that, the unexamined life is not worth living and was afterward sentence to death. I agree with Socrates declaration because, of some fine points and details that was stated. Socrates believed in the love of wisdom and that it should be pursued above all the other claims in philosophy. Socrates decided that he is wise because he consider that he does not think he know what he does not know. Socrates is known for questioning others and that it is the duty of the God to continue with what Socrates is good at; questioning people to show people who believe they are wise that they are really not. The oracle asserted that Socrates is the wisest man of them all, but Socrates said that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I believe that they are going to be a more contented person is because, people who question themselves have a sense of where they belong in this world and for people who understand their place in this world also have all the context and fundamentals of their life put together. For example, there are two person in this world and only one of them have a map. Obviously the one with the map will figure out their destination faster than the one without the map. People who spend their time on this world without examining their life is like have somnambulism. The Power Of Isis Through Social Media Essay The Power of ISIS Through Social Media As social media has become more prevalent in our society, terrorist groups, such as ISIS, presence through platforms such as Twitter or Facebook has increased as well. Over 46,000 accounts on Twitter were ISIS supporters as of 2015 (Merchant). These type of extremist accounts target users by promoting the dignifying aspect of ISIS instead of the gory details about their jihadist culture. Since social media apps such as, Twitter or Facebook, are so accessible, these terrorist organizations have an even easier time taking advantage of the opportunity propagated by the companies. In order to produce sustainable innovation a company needs to create a culture that will bring forth new ideas. Even after rewatching it countless times since, the movie still never fails to keep my attention. One thing is for sure, Jake Gyllenhaal s character, Louis Bloom, is a bona fide psychopath. I will go into greater detail about the reasoning for this later, after discussing what exactly being a psychopath entails and the different traits that are used to characterize them. Believe it or not, many people in today s society cannot really distinguish between the two terms, psychopath and sociopath. Back in the early 1800s, the doctors that were working with mental patients began to realize that some of their patients who appeared outwardly normal had what they termed a moral depravity or moral insanity . These patients seemed to have no sense of the rights of other people, or even of ethics in general. For example, at the start of the war, finds made in Poland were used as an excuse for German occupation under the grounds that it was once German land. Arguably one of the most iconic examples of the representation of Arian ideology is the Nazi swastika. Even prior to its adoption by Hitler, the Swastika was interpreted to represent the concept of the Arian race. As far back as 1880 Michal von Zmigrodski Ludvig Müller claimed the Swastika to be of Indo European origin. He theorized that it represented the ancient Arian sun god. Taking this concept further, he stated that the swastika originated in the German homeland, linking Germany with the home of the supposed Aryan race. (Mees, 2008: 57 58) Thus, when a Swastika like symbol was discovered in other areas of the world such as during excavations at the Greek city of Troy, the Aryan identity of the swastika was once again used to propagate the spread of German influence. (Mees, 2008: 59) This led to individuals such as Hitler making claims that the German/Aryan race had claim to these areas, having once been the land of their ancestors. By the time the Swastika was adopted by the Nazi party, it had come to represent a purely Arian symbol. This ideology all stemmed from the study of prehistory, leading to the resulting excavations in which the SS Ahnenerbe sought to create/find evidence in support of the theorized Nordic pagan solar worship. • 25. Baroque Art And Art The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture, and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721, stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA and thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar was basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been publicly disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment in 2010, this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed or the relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the primary defense in FCA actions. However, with amendment in 2010, the power to dismiss was effectively shifted from the court to the government with the addition of the language unless opposed by the Government . ... • 33. Essay on Attacks on the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania On August 7, 1998, two U.S. embassies were attacked almost simultaneously. One was in Nairobi, Kenya and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attack in Kenya involved both a truck bomb and at least two suicide bombers. The truck was at the back entrance of the embassy when the bomb went off, and the damage was critical. This attack had more casualties than the bombing in Tanzania because the truck that contained the bomb was able to get into the inner embassy compound. Also, the Nairobi embassy was close to the center of the city which was more populated and led to more deaths. The U.S. embassy was not the only building affected in the explosion. The Ufundi building and the Cooperative Bank which were close by were both severely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ambassador that was injured in the bombing. She had been meeting outside with Joseph Kamotho, Kenya s trade minister. Their first thought from hearing the smaller blast was that it must be the noise from construction. Another victim, Linda Howard, witnessed the explosion around 10:40 A.M. She was on the fourth floor of the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and was in a meeting. Soon after she heard the small explosion, she suddenly realized that all of the windows were currently being blasted, the roof was caving in, and smoke seemed to appear from every direction. Before she had analyzed what was going on, she was being yelled at by Embassy guards to get down on the floor. After fifteen minutes of crawling around without being able to see, they had reached the ground floor. What Howard saw next terrified her. She saw lifeless bodies, fires everywhere, and the screams of terrified people. Bill Bar who is director of the U.S. Information Service in Kenya, was also at the same meeting as Linda Howard. He also recalls hearing a thump and thought it was possibly the sound of a grenade being thrown at the embassy. Some also recall hearing gunfire outside of the embassy before the big explosion. Al Qaeda is the international terrorist group responsible for these two attacks. The mastermind behind the attacks was named Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. • 34. A Cultural Diversity Training Program With many organizations expanding and becoming more global organizations, whose businesses deal with other countries, cultural diversity becomes more challenging. That is why it is important for organizations to create a cultural diversity training program to encourage employee from different backgrounds to come together and learn each other s belief system which can enhance the organization s ability to problem solve. To do this successfully an organization needs to create an organizational climate that promotes a learning organization. Which learning organization was first coined by Peter Senge (Kopp, 2014). According to Kopp (2014), Senge defined a learning organization as an organization where people continually expand their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By having a training program in place of cultural and diversity areas can help prevent the organization in getting sued or prevent a major lawsuit. That is why organizational leaders are charged with making sure they are in compliant with Federal and State laws. If an employee feels they have been treated differently, because of their culture, age, color, religion, or physical disabilities, this could lead to legal trouble for the organization (Kesee, 2010). One of the organizations that prohibit organizations from discriminating against workers for any reason is the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Human resources can do research on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission s website, who does provide information on ways for organizations to avoid discrimination for employer and employees (Keese, 2010). The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission website also contains information on employment laws. Along with reviewing U.S. law, human resources will also have to look into the legislation of the country the organization has offices in those countries. That is why it s essential for management and employees to be aware of the different cultures within the organization, and culture values. An example is knowing other ethnic holidays, and not just American holiday s and making sure they get the same attention as American holidays like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Kennelly Citizen Youth II. Dominant Narratives and Findings of Kennelly s Citizen Youth The terms citizen and activist are often used broadly. Without any historical, social or political context, the fundamental reasons that evoke political participation are usually lost. Eventually, notions of the citizen activist become generalized across social and political spectrums. For youth, modern discourses surrounding activism lacks the differentiation between citizen and activist. As a result, the many underlying reasons for political participation become almost invisible. In the book, Jacqueline Kennelly explores the importance of what it means to be a certain kind of youth citizen in the twenty first century (p. 3). Furthermore, she explores how youth activism ... Without understanding certain historical processes that shape notions of an idyllic citizen, like those discussed in the previous paragraph, we cannot understand the current exclusions that lead to activism. Specifically, Kennelly argues that the constraints of neoliberalism are reinforced differently through what she calls the habitus. The habitus is a system of dispositions that create certain conditions for youth activism (p. 75). In this chapter of the book, Kennelly interviews several participants to understand how the habitus acts as an influencing agent. For example, by growing up in a home that emphasizes social justice (i.e. having activist parents), an individual could be predisposed to the importance of activism (p. 79). At the same time, certain predispositions may also encourage activism. Along various racial, cultural and ethnic fault lines, activism may be encouraged for the sake of equality. Among many examples, Kennelly uses the example of Sanna, a Kenyan Canadian who feels the need to explain she is more than just Canadian based on her appearance (p. 85). In this aspect, the both habitus examples conflict in origin, yet both create a sense of social justice.
