Advantages And Disadvantages Of Group Therapy
Reichenberg, 2014). This text speaks to the fact that other groups could be based on the idea of
racism, oppression or discrimination (Earlet, 2000). This means that the facilitator must be willing to
bracket (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014) his own values and be willing to understand the position of the
group members.
Moreover, due to the nature of the therapy being in a form of a group, the facilitator is required to
develop, alongside the members, group norms and boundaries (Schachter, n.d.). This is important as it
will serve as a way of maintaining order and respect within the group itself (Schachter, n.d.).
Furthermore, the facilitator is required to convey some level of care for the group as well as use this as
an opportunity to model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, should a group facilitator follow the order above, it is also essential to mention that the
stages do not necessarily persist for a long time and at times, facilitators cannot tell when they ve
moved on the next stage. 8. THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF GROUP THERAPY.
8.1. Advantages of Group Therapy.
8.1.1. Diversity of Opinions.
Group therapy allows different individuals to come together and share their thoughts, feelings and
ideas (Occupy Theory, 2014). Through this interaction group members are able to eliminate negative
feelings and experience a sense of relief after sharing their experiences and opinions (Occupy Theory,
2014).
8.1.2. Establishing Comaraderie and Social Support.
Another advantage of group therapy is that it is empowering and encourages individuals to meet other
people and establish comradeship (Occupy Theory, 2014). In terms of social support, group therapy
allows an individual to have a well diversified and strong support structure from other group members
(occupy Theory, 2014). Depending on the number of times in which the group meets each member
will have built a strong social support at the end of each session. 8.1.3. Group

A Group Of Advisory Councillors From Google
SUMMARY
A group of advisory councillors from Google wrote a report on The Right to Be Forgotten policy in
2015. This policy was created in an effort to offer a balance between freedom of expression and the
press. The Right to be Forgotten offers citizens the ability to request for their information to be
removed from the results of a Google search. The removal of these search results, or links, upon the
request of an individual is referred to as delisting (Floridi et al., 2015). Delisting allows web users to
maintain and protect their privacy by limiting the public s access to information about them.
It is important to note, however, that while citizens may apply to be delisted, Google does not have to
comply with this request. Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, citizens should have the right to access information that is germane to the public.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE POLICY
The policy first outlines the nature of the rights at issue in the ruling. Google must decide whether the
general public should have the right to easily access an individual s information via the search engine.
Google must also consider if the individual requesting to delist experiences harm from [public]
accessibility to the information (Floridi et al., 2015, p. 6).
Next, the policy addresses the way in which Google must assess each delisting request according to
four key pieces of criteria: the data subject s role in public life, the nature of the information, the
source, and time (Floridi et al., 2015). When evaluating the data subject s role in public life, Google
considers three different types of citizens: individuals with a public personality (e.g. politicians),
individuals with no public personality (i.e. average citizens), and those with a defined role in public
life (e.g. school directors). Ultimately, the more involved a citizen is in the public sphere, the less
likely they are to be delisted.
Google also considers the nature of the information. Financial records, private contact information,
and false information, are all deemed worthy of privacy according to Google. If, however, the
information biases toward a public interest (e.g. information related to criminal offences),

The Role Of Zeus In Ancient Greek Mythology
Zeus was one of the main gods that was featured a lot in the Ancient Greece myths. He was the King
of the gods and ruled over the sky, his main symbol was the thunderbolt but others included the eagle
and oak tree. His roman counterpart was known as Jupiter or Jove. He appeared in most myths even if
they were about other gods often being the one to set the myth up or create the conflict. He was
portrayed as an all powerful protagonist and looked up to whereas today his actions would be seen as
selfish and narrow minded making him an antagonist.
He was the considered the King of the gods because he was the one to free them from Cronus grip.

She was the goddess of childbirth and marriage as well as being the Queen of the Gods. Her symbols
included the peacock, the cow and the wedding ring. Her roman counterpart was known as Juno. She
married Zeus out of shame after he raped. Hera was Zeus s one legal wife, as the greeks were
monogamous, but this didn t stop him from having sexual relations outside of his marriage. This was
because he believed that he didn t need to abide to the laws of the humans. Hera was often portrayed
as being spiteful and jealous towards Zeus, because of his constant infidelity. She often would seek
revenge on the whomever he took a favour, as she could not directly punish her husband as he had
power over her. she would also wreck havoc on the offspring that Zeus would have with over woman
and those women themselves even if they had been raped by Zeus. Zeus would often turn on her with
violence if she nagged Zeus too much, with one such occasion being when she and the other gods tied
Zeus in ropes and plotted to dispose of him. When he eventually got free she hung her by her wrists
from the sky with weights tied to her ankles. He eventually let her down when all of the other gods
swore not on rebel again. This was not a one time thing through as he would often punish her as a way
to show his dominance, and to remind her that as the man of the relationship, he was the one with the
power.

Classification Essay-Chopping Wood
There s an art to swinging a maul, to splitting the wood just right. I came to love that satisfying thunk!
You must put your entire body, every muscle into it.
Chopping wood s excellent for muscle building. First, grab a round or partial round of seasoned wood.
If the wood s green, leave it a few months. The fur people had an immense stack of wood from trees
they d felled, sitting in the sun to that precise purpose. Had, as in past tense, we soon worked through
that stack.
Trees are felled, cut into rounds, slices 18 inches long and left in the sun to dry. When they become
seasoned, the rounds are split into convenient sized chunks.

It isn t necessary to be a large muscle bound lumberjack to swing a maul with authority. Even a
compact lumber jill can swing a mean maul. It doesn t demand massive muscles, although it allows
application of whatever muscle available. Plus it s wonderful exercise.
Other tasks of the stone age household also constitute quality exercise. Carrying water s a useful
surrogate for lifting weights. I also pulled a plow, a hilarious story of itself. They lack large draft
animals on this world. Horses, oxen and such just aren t available, the best draft animal here walks
upright on two legs!
Teena added rope climbing to the training. I d climbed ropes in the service, although the service
utilized high tech gear. We were wimps and didn t realize it! Our regimen uses only what nature
endowed. I discovered that used a rather different set of muscles. Teena claimed that the ability to
scoot up a rope, or down one, might someday save my life. She darkly hinted that a predator at my
heels might inspire alacrity. I took the advice to heart and worked at it. I discovered rope burns heal

Attention In Meinke s Advice To My Son
The typical American dream consists of a white picket fence, a beautiful house, and a perfect family,
but would that dream continue to exist with constricting economic and behavioral factors? More
specifically, would a child s quality of life be disturbed by these issues? From day one, society is told
that all they need to have a happy, successful life are the bare necessities, but recent studies and
personal accounts have proven otherwise. The fragileness that surrounds a child s life has the
opportunity to be influenced by outside, powerful forces such as a a parent s marital status, income,
and devotion. Parents are given the role of a caretaker when they introduce a new being into the
world; however, an increasing number of parents are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an infant, a child will wail out until their caretaker tends to their needs, so attention seeking is an
attribute they are born with. However, when a child does receive this attention, they form a closer
relationship with their parents. An occurrence of this happens in the short story Advice to My Son,
when the father gives his son life changing advice. The father gives his son the advice to live his days
as fruitful as possible and to make them last (Meinke 1 5). Without the closeness of this relationship,
the father would not have given his son the meaningful advice, so the son would not repeat his
mistakes. Having hope for his son, the father is able to relate, and it is because the father cares for his
child and the child s wellbeing. According to The Urban Child Institute, ...parents and caregivers
provide their young children with essential experiences that set a stable foundation for future health,
social and emotional well being and academic achievement (A Parent s Attention is the Greatest Gift
to Child). If a child were left in the forest with nobody to take care of him or her, they would surely
succumb to their demise. Without a parent or a parent s love and affection, a child can not function the
proper way it was made to. They need a teacher to help guide them through life and help them to

The Canon of the New Testament
What we know today as the New Testament was compiled over a period of many decades. It was first
referenced as the New Testament by Clement of Alexandria. It is believed that the books that comprise
what we know as the New Testament canon were in existence no later than the end of the first century.
The included books varied by different sources until the fourth century when the Bishop of
Alexandria, Athanasios, included them in a letter to his flock in AD 367. His list was approved by
councils at Hippo in AD393 and Carthage in AD397. The process used to arrive at this list varied by
time and source. There were many debates along the way and some continue to this day.

One of the top apologists of the time was Irenaeus. He declared that there could only be four gospels
and to add or subtract from that number would be heresy. He also countered Marcion who that the Old
Testament God had been evil, different from the New Testament God. Marcion wanted to remove all
ties to Judaism from Christianity and only accepted Luke and ten of Paul s letters in his canon.
Irenaeus responded by emphasizing the authority of all four Gospels and all thirteen of Paul s letters.
Marcion s canon was followed by other varying canons over the next two centuries. One list which
was very close to our current canon was the Muraturian Canon. It appears to include the four Gospels,
Acts, I and II Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Galatians, I and II Thessalonians,
Romans, Philemon, Titus, I and II Timothy, all three epistles of John, and Revelations. It directly
rejected the epistles of Paul to the Laodiceans and the Alexandrians, and questioned strongly the
Revelation of Peter. The first list that clearly defined the 27 books that we know today as the New
Testament was contained in a letter written by Athanasius, the bishop of Rome, in AD 367. In it he
declares these books God inspired Scripture...handed down to our fathers by those who were
eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning. About this same time the oldest complete
copy of the New Testament, the Codex Sinaiticus, was

How Climate Change Is Inherently Flawed
Because of the most recent election season, there has been a renewed interest in the topic of climate
change. In the 2016 Presidential election, the green party received over 1.2 million popular votes
nationwide, when they usually receive only 100 thousand or so. With an increased interest in the topic
of climate change, I feel it is necessary to provide factual data and projections on the path climate
change will take to decrease misinformation. I proclaim the correct course of action to solve the
problem of climate change is to do nothing. Almost every argument I hear today discussing what we
should do about climate change is inherently flawed because of their assumptions about the future.
The current climate change model for the future assumes technology will not improve in any
fundamental way for the next twenty or thirty years. Every argument which says climate change will
be irreversible if we do not act now assumes we will only have our current technology at our disposal.
I know for a fact technology advancements were not considered for these arguments because there is
not a good way to predict what kinds of technology we will have in the future. Thirty three years ago,

Dna Evidence And Its Repercussions
We will examine the importance of DNA in the conviction of Tommie Lee Andrews and the
significance of this decision in the United States Judicial System. We will discuss an overview of
some of the essential elements in conducting utilizing this DNA evidence and its repercussions. This
case signified the first time in the United Sates that DNA evidence was actually admissible in court
proceedings during a criminal trial. In 1986, in a neighborhood around the Orlando, Florida area a
series of violent rapes had the city on edge. One of the victim s names was Nancy Hodge, who was
brutally raped at knifepoint by her attacker. She only briefly saw the attacker and was not able to
immediately identify him due to his hands having covered her ... Show more content on

Due to the brief period that Hodge had been allowed to see her attacker, the prosecution felt that
stronger evidence was needed to prove a connection. The brief 6 second glimpse that the victim Nancy
Hodge obtained during her ordeal wasn t considered viable enough for trial purposes (Lewis). This
relatively new forensic investigation technic involving the use of DNA fingerprinting was in its
infancy and was pioneered by a British scientist might hold the answer to convicting the rapist.
Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate
information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a stronger
case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a colleague familiar
with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then contacted a company in New
York used to develop methods of DNA profiling or fingerprinting for assistance.
Once the results of testing were completed in this case, it positively matched two of the six rapes
being investigated. The problems associated with this technology were that no real national database
that was established or in place for complete comparison, and the since the technology was considered
being fairly new it would require it to go through an

The Rights Of The Sound Maker
The provision expresses the rights of the sound maker, i.e. what is not required is implied. The
implication is that anybody apart from the marker is prevented by the Act to make reproductions
without authority (Craig, 2011, p. 105). On 23rd of June 2015, the rules of regulating sound
recordings were modified. The modifications were to the effect that unpublished sound recordings
would last for fifty years after fixation. If the sound recordings are published before the copyright
expires, the term application is seventy years before its publication or a hundred years from the date of
fixation. Consequently, it also extends the copyright for musical performers works contained in the
recordings (Craig, 2011, p.226). According to McCormack (2010), the Canadian Intellectual Property
Office defines performers performances. It states that copyright applies to a performer s performance
provided that it occurs in Canada or in any other country that accords its membership to the Rome

producer is either a citizen or permanent resident of Canada and or member country of Rome

Lil Kim Research Paper
Lil Kim is the self made success story of a woman who worked hard to make a career for herself, but
who also fits into the objectified sex symbol most hip hop feminists ridicule. Kim became one of the
most distinctive female voices in the late 1990s, and was pop culture s most notorious hip hop queen
of rap music. She made use of some of the most powerful tools black women in hip hop have to
combat the stereotype of black feminine sexuality. Black women are seen as hypersexual, Jezebels,
who will use the power of sex to get what they want. Since the beginning of her career she kept the
image of being a Queen Bee , a sex symbol that combines her music, along with the words and images
she raps, to resemble a hip hop feminist. Her raps reflected about everything that men use to imprison
women while she is imprisoned with them. Lil Kim s explicit raps marked the pinnacle of female

What Does Kuhn Mean By Paradigm
1. What does Kuhn mean by the term normal science? What does he mean by paradigm? How are the
two concepts related to each other? A thorough understanding of what Kuhn is communicating when
he uses the terms normal science and paradigm is a vital component for individuals that read The
Structure of Scientific Revolutions. By understanding what Kuhn means when he uses these two
terms, one should be enabled to, perhaps, more accurately fully extract and understand the argument
that Kuhn is making within this book. According to the book, the term normal science is used to mean,
research firmly based upon one or more past scientific achievements, achievements that some
particular scientific community acknowledges for a time as supplying the ... Show more content on

Kuhn argues that paradigms contribute to a sense of order within communities because the community
s research is based off of a prearranged set of accepted beliefs. Paradigmatic boundaries contribute to
a sense of clarity that results from fact gathering activities within scientific communities. In contrast,
the collection of mere facts , which do not stem from paradigmatic boundaries of explanation, results
in nothing but puzzlement (Kuhn, 2012, p. 35). As a result, Kuhn argues that paradigms are vital for
establishing validity in regard to the questions and findings that are related to fact gathering activities.
In contrast, the absence of a paradigm would pose a major disadvantage for a hypothetical scientific
community that does not use a paradigm based approach for fact gathering activities. Kuhn believes
nothing but confusion could be derived from a collection of facts that belong to endeavors that are not
rooted in a scientific community s paradigm. In class, a paradigm was metaphorically compared to the
glue that binds a scientific community together. This metaphorical comparison was used in an effort to
illustrate the intimate relationship between paradigms and normal science that Kuhn describes in this
book. After reading Kuhn s book, and becoming well acquainted with his usage of paradigm in the
context of his book, I could not agree more with the argument that he is making throughout this book.
Therefore, it is obvious that paradigms mold fact gathering activities related to normal science, that
there are advantages to fact gathering activities stemming from paradigms, and that absence of a
paradigm would possibly plague a scientific community when scientists would try to approach fact
gathering

Scott Fitzgerald reveals in the short story An Alcoholic Case that some challenges are remarkably
difficult to overcome. For example, the nurse becomes fed up with the cartoonist because she feels it
is hopeless to help him if he does not want to help himself. It was so utterly senseless as she put a
bandage on her finger where she had cut it while picking up the glass she made up her mind she would
never take an alcoholic case again (Fitzgerald). When the cartoonist felt he would never get better, he
came to the decision that he wanted to die and there was nothing the nurse could have done to stop
him. She knew death she had heard it, smelt its unmistakable odour, but she had never seen it before it
entered into anyone, and she knew this man saw it in the corner of his bedroom; that it was standing
there looking at him while he spat from a feeble cough and rubbed the result into the braid of his
trousers. It shone there crackling for a moment as evidence of the last gesture he ever made
(Fitzgerald). These quotes show that the nurse had a hard time taking care of the cartoonist as he had

Homeschooling Is The Issue Of Socialization
The term homeschooling refers to the practice of parents educating a child at home, rather than in a
conventional public or private school setting. These children would otherwise be enrolled in
elementary or secondary school. Homeschooling is seen in the United States today as a viable
alternative to public school education. According to widely repeated estimates, as many as two million
American children are schooled at home, with the number growing at 15 to 20 percent per year
(McDowell Ray 2000, Lines 2000). Despite the rising prevalence of the subject, we are left without
basic information on the nature of homeschooling in the United States. What motivations do parents
have for choosing homeschooling religion, concerns about school quality, or other motivations? What
are the limitations that these families face? Lastly, what strengths do these children exhibit with
homeschooling? The common argument in limitations of homeschooling is the issue of socialization
in homeschoolers development. The counter argument from homeschooling advocates is that
homeschooling does not mean a hermit like existence for the children. The idea is that social skills do
not have to be developed only with people who are the exact same age but experience of forming
meaningful relationships social skills will get solidified. Some families feel judged by making the
choice to homeschool even when it meets their child s needs, although today they are becoming more
mainstream ( Collom,

sensitive, daring women (Kate Chopin). She rote and published The Awakening during the late 1800s
when the movement for women s rights was beginning to outbreak. Immediately after the Civil War,
Susan B. Anthony, a strong and outspoken advocate of women s rights, demanded that the Fourteenth

(Woman s). After Susan B. Anthony numerous women followed and joined behind her creating certain
organizations and fighting the government, or men, for their own individual rights as women and then
equal right with men. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, women and women s organizations not
only worked to gain the right to vote, they also worked for broad based economic and political
equality and for social reforms. Between 1880 and 1910, the number of women employed in the
United States increased from 2.6 million to 7.8 million (Woman s). However, critics did not agree with
Chopin s openness and realism about how women felt during this time. They believed that The
Awakening was vaguer and cruel for how the women acted out and committed suicide in the end to

Magna Carta In Early America
The magna Carta had a huge effect on the beginning of the United states, it is referred to as one of the
most important legal documents in history. It was an outline for the early Americans to live by. It was
the first time a king didn t have complete power and had rules that everyone had to follow. It was an
effort to check in on the king s powers, known as due process of law, and to strike a balance between
people s rights and common good. The Magna Carta prevents any ruler being aggressive towards
citizens and gives everyone protection of the law. This document was signed in 1215 in Runnymede,
England. Although the magna Carta originated in England, it was used in early America, and helped

Mathematics Of The Math For Educators
The fraction lesson that we worked on in class has given me a deeper understanding of fractions that I
did not have before. Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have
intimidated me for as long as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was
going to come a day that I could understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course
has contributed significally to this newfound understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable
knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the same time fun for yourself and the students
you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could either be close to almost
nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that conclusion, students
can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an example
provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell
her doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact
amount, she would give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able
pieces, from here Dr. Math took away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close
to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1. This helped me visualize and understand what she was
trying to teach us on a deeper level. We also learned that when

because it evaluates the cost impact of adding sites to the network of current facilities.

Implementing A Traditional 401 ( K ) Plan
Recommended Plan
We recommend that SmartKidz initiate a traditional 401(k) plan. A traditional 401(k) plan is a defined
contribution plan for for profit organizations. In this plan, employees are allowed to contribute a
percentage of their salary before taxes up to a maximum contribution, which is $18,000 as of 2015
(IRS). In addition, employers may choose to add to each employee s 401(k) plan through matching
each individual contribution or providing a one time lump sum. Each employee has a tax deferred
account where he or she is able to choose where to allocate his or her contributions. For example,
mutual funds and target funds are common investment options.
Overall, a retirement plan, such as a traditional 401(k), is the key to a ... Show more content on

In addition, there is more portability for retirement savings; 401(k)s can be rolled over into IRAs if
employees change companies. This is a significant benefit for millennials who are expected to remain
with companies for 3 5 years before switching. Further, as for retirement plans similar to a Roth or
Safe Harbor, a traditional 401(k) is less expensive and easier to manage. However, these types of plans
can be added on later, if SmartKidz would desire.
Suggested Provisions
In a preliminary outline of the plan, we have several key suggestions. First, SmartKidz should allow
both full time and part time employees to contribute to a 401(k) plan. Although part time employees
may result in higher administrative costs as a result of the high turnover associated with this category
of workers, it is very important for these employees to be able to contribute to retirement plans. All of
SmartKidz part time employees are between the ages of 25 and 65; they are not high school students
trying to earn a paycheck. Your part time employees are part time for a reason pregnancy, disability,
and other household duties so to accomplish your goal of showing respect and dignity, you should
allow them to put money towards their future. In addition, allowing every employee to contribute
would reduce the possible tension between full time and part time employees and increase the overall
morale. Additionally, it could even reduce the turnover in part time

Symbolism In La Inferno
For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the
finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular,
recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and
allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical
descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on
western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism
specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit
them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches
deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell.
The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In
Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark
and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he
seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He
describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great
Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved
horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by
virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud,
violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a
master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious
person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy
his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top
predator in the food chain. Similarly, humans are known to resort to violent means to fulfill their needs
and ambitions. The she wolf, the last

The Rise Of Awareness Of Police Brutality Towards Black Males
Although written in the late 1980s with the rise of awareness of police brutality towards black males
in America, it is clearly evident that black people are treated differently especially in terms of racial
profiling. According to analysis by New York Civil Liberties Union, in 2013 83% of the people
stopped in New York for a frisk and search were black or Hispanic with only 12% being white and of
all the people stopped 81% were completely innocent. Racial profiling causing an uneasiness to those
who are victims of it, for Brent Staples it resulted in him changing his behaviour to suit those around
him. Selectively picking his attire, the time he walked and places he walked at the specific times. Even
steely New Yorkers hunching toward nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even
join in the tune. Virtually everybody seems to sense that a mugger wouldn t be warbling bright, sunny
selections from Vivaldi s Four Seasons. The writer, Brent Staples, would have to whistle to reassure
others of their safety and comfort just because he was a minority, the worst was assumed of him from
first impressions. In Brent s situation the uneasiness from racial profiling lead to him altering his
lifestyle and this is a reality for many young people of colour who have to selectively choose what
they wear as to not appear thuggish while they walk the streets. Racial profiling causes individuals

Emily Dickinson Poetry Essay
Emily Dickinson s Poetry
There is a lot more to poetry than just the words themselves. What William Shakespeare called, the
mind s eye also plays a role (Borus34). What that means is that your experiences and thoughts will
add to your understanding. Dickinson had an active mind and a style so unique and unusual with her
writing. Something that was very unusual about her writing was that she never put a title to her poems.
Just like many poets, she used a wide assortment of literary devices such as, metaphor, simile,
alliteration, and symbolism. Unlike many writers of her time, Dickinson did not use conventional
rhyme, capitalization, or punctuation (Borus36). For example, she would put dashes not just at the end

When the speaker describes Onset when the King Be witnessed in the Room , (7 8). I feel like the king

This poem is full of sadness, with the narrator stating, I Willed my Keepsakes (9). Making a will is the

The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay
For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its
early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While
Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it.
Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a
clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal with
Christianity in the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe aggression
towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw the expulsion
of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description of the desecration
of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by the churches located
nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those that proclaimed the faith
and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten, grilled, mauled by animals,
and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such gory damage to the seemingly
peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also provides an answer. Although it is
slightly ambiguous as to what sparked the outburst, it hints the possible reasons on why they were
targeted. What started out as misconceptions grew into fear, and then when the Christians

Not A Hero
Not a Hero is a simple and beautiful World War One poem by Clyde Hamilton which has been read at
ANZAC Day ceremonies across Australia. The poem tells a narrative of an ANZAC veteran, or old

yet descriptive and telling vocabulary, as well as using literary devices such as rhyme and alliteration.
It s conservative and structured style demonstrated throughout the poem creates rhythm and makes the
poem flow and thus easier to fathom. The poem s theme is a simple, yet powerful one; never forget the
people who sacrificed their life for ours to be free. The poem refers to these people as heroes

Similarities Between Protestants And Catholicism
There are many important similarities and differences between Catholics and Protestants. While there
have been some attempts over many recent years to find common ground between the two groups, the
fact is that the differences prevail the similarities. Such major differences include their beliefs on the

important today as they were at the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. The founder of the

Mrs Sommers And Kate Chopin Comparative Essay
First of all, John Steinbeck, Kari Strutt as well as Kate Chopin succeeds to create an ideal main
character in each short story. They were invented to be linked with the feminism perception. These
fictional women struggle, as the feminists of the time struggled, to escape the discrimination. When
we analyze closely, the lives of these ladies represent the reality of the pass.
For example in Chopin s short story, A Pair of Silk Stocking, Mrs. Sommers is a wife and mother
struggling with the inequality in the society. She tries to live by the community principle, where she
has to be a selfless person. That is the way women were suppose to act. Their children and husband
were the priority. Their needs and desires weren t taken in consideration. Mrs. Sommers felt like she
had no value. At a certain point of her life, she received an enormous amount of money. As a mother,
she plans to spend the cash on her family. Instead, Mrs. Sommers indulges herself with material such
as shoes and gloves. All of this brought her a feeling of importance such as she had not enjoyed for

The Persian Empire By Cyrus The Great
In 6th century BCE the Persian Empire was the main empire dominating most of the Mediterranean
Sea. It ran from part of modern Afghanistan and Pakistan in to modern day Turkey and portions of
Northern Greece. The Persian Empire was a strict state with powerful kings ruling over the massive
empire. The empire ruled over a vast ethnic group and proved to have success in diversity, especially
with Jews, whose history have been well documented with the Persian Empire.
The beginning of the Persian Empire is accredited to the wise guidance of a man known as Cyrus the
Great. Cyrus was a bright and influential Persian king whose approach for expanding the Persian
Empire was to conquer nearing lands with the goal of uniting them into one vast empire. With his
dexterous guidance and a solid military, Cyrus succeeded in fashioning a massive empire that lasted
for more than two hundred years. The strong roots and influences brought to the Persian Empire by
Cyrus gave the emperors after him much power, like Darius I, who continued to enlarge the Empire.
In the year 550 Cyrus the Great took power over the land of Media. As he began to create a strong
government he elected both Median and Persian nobles as civilian officials. After conquering Media s
people states throughout Anatolia soon fell under his reign. He then even conquered lands in the area

father s money, he won t get too far . As a young boy, Amory is used to living with riches in a
sophisticated way. He s never warned about the dangers of depending on wealth, however. This leads

character description in play is more of a feisty character. He is one of those characters that if you tell

These spells, passwords, and funerary texts were used, as a guide through the many trials the deceased
would face upon arriving into the underworld. Knowing which spell, password or funerary texts to use
was very essential to achieving happiness or reaching the gods after death. Each spell, password and
funerary text varied in different ways, especially when it depended on the class and the importance of
the deceased. The Book of the Dead also had many vignettes, which were illustrations showing what
the deceased would face in the underworld or the life of the deceased lived. One important ritual that
was practiced along with the Book of the dead was the weighing of the heart of the dead person
against Truth. The heart was weighed against a feather, and if the heart was not weighed down and
was lighter than the feather than it meant the heart was not filled with sins and the rested soul will

Persuasion Against Whale Hunting
Save Our Whales: End Whale Hunting
April 7, 2011
Save our Whales, End Whale Hunting
Whales, often called the Ocean s gentle giant are one of the biggest species/mammals that spend their
entire life in the ocean. The smallest known whale is the Minke which, by adulthood is only 8.5 feet
long; the largest known whale is the Blue whale , which measures 94.5 feet long. Since the ancient
times, people have written about encounters with this mammal. Ancient Roman and Greek artists
inspired by the dolphin s apparent intelligence and kindness to humans began to adopt dolphin motifs
on vases, coins, mosaics, sculptures, and paintings. Even Arstotle (384 322 bc) spoke about a variety
of different whales and identified them as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This might seem like a large population; compared to prior figures their population did not
significantly increase. What little increase that was found, was/is thought to be due to overlapping , or
rather recounting whales. Researchers believe that many of these whales interact with different
stocks/groups (NAMMCO, 1995). These are not the only whales to pay the price; since the beginning
of commercial whaling over one million sperm whales, two hundred and fifty thousand humpbacks,
and two million other whales have been killed for profit. Are times changing? Records dating back to
the 1931 1932 whale hunting season (ten years before the International Whaling Commission was put
in place to protect and stop whaling), 28,325 blue whales were slaughtered. In 1946, the Whaling
Commission was formed; however, even with protection, thirty years later (1963 1964) over 29,255
sperms kills were hunted for their meat and other products. Today, even with protection, it is estimated
that only 5 10% of the original whale population remains (Carwardine, Hoyt, Fordyce, Gill, 1998).
Explosive Harpoons The use of harpoons to kill whales is not new; however, in 1986 Japan started
using explosive harpoons, or as the Japan refer to it harpoon grenades (Leake Ryall, 2006). This
harpoon is designed to go through the skin of whale and explode into pieces. The theory behind this
harpoon is that it will hit vital organs,

The Locus of Control Contsruct Essay
Locus of Control, originally conceptualized by Julian Rotter (1966), has been found to be critical to
numerous studies. Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the
forces that determine reinforcement. Individuals with internal orientation perceive rewards as
contingent based on personal behavior, whereas those with external orientation attribute reinforcement
received to external factors such as chance and powerful others (Levenson 1981). This essay examines
the nature and significance of this psychological construct, especially in academic achievement and
health domains. Additionally, it has been argued that high internality is positively associated with
leadership while high scores of powerful others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creator, Leveson (1972), found that participants with chance orientation shared traits which could
not be distinguished by the P or I scales. Further, the study in anti pollution activism also support the
validity. Responses from participants demonstrated that involvement was different for those having
high scores on the P scale, compared with the Chance scale (Levenson 1974). Therefore, the Levenson
Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate.
As an important predictor of health behaviors, generally, Locus of Control construct supplies health
problems and treatments with essential insights. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring high
on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of recovery
(Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients participation in health treatment
cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are more likely to
engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self control which are pivotal
determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978). Critics might argue that
the correlations between Locus of Control construct and health issue are not significant. Some
researchers, however, suggest that this construct has low predictive power since it fails to predict some
aspects of health, including survival rates with regard to cancer patients, controls of metabolic in
diabetes

Legalizing Marijuana For Open Recreational Use
In 2014, Florida joined the growing ranks of states that have found themselves engaged in the
legislative and moral debates regarding whether the time has arrived to legalize the possession,
distribution, and use of marijuana for medicinal and/or recreational use. While hotly debated on both
sides, one of the more ironic factors regarding the issue of legalization is that it was found to be
perhaps the most logically and fairly debated topics of the state s recent mid term elections. The facts
of legalization are becoming more black and white and less about morality, which may be a testament
to why 24 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws legalizing medicinal marijuana.
Of those states, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have also legalized marijuana for
recreational use. Although the idea of legalizing marijuana for open recreational use may further
incense opponents of its government sanctioning, it can also be contended that doing so only gives
state and federal entities a better ability to monitor how marijuana is being distributed and removes a
great deal of the temptation or necessity for users and distributors to use subvert the process of
medicinal dispensing to obtain cannabis for recreational consumption. This issue also creates a new
angle on states rights, as each state is legally able to enact its own policies and laws, yet the federal
government can ultimately intervene and determine any state s legislation to be illegal.

History 11
December 6, 2016
The Mexican American War and the Annexation of the Republic of Texas (1836 1845)
Since the United States was founded as an independent nation from Great Britain, its people had
confronted many economic, political, and social problems. The United States started to expand its
territory in the western part of the country. Some examples are the Louisiana purchase from1803 and
the Spanish Florida annexation. One of the most significant and controversial in the antebellum years
was the Texas annexation which was a result of the War between Mexico and the war of independence
by Texan rebels on the late 1830 s and 1840 s. Therefore, the annexation of the Republic of Texas
existed from 1836 1845 produced controversy and consequences on both sides of the border.
In order to understand the consequences of the war, it is important to mention some struggles that
confront both countries. First, in 1803, the United States had purchased the territory of Louisiana
claiming that the purchase also includes the territory of Texas. The Spanish responded by closing the
border where many mercenaries had been penetrated. However, the Spanish attempt to colonization
failed; as a consequence, the Texas territory was scarcely populated. The Spanish crown allow the
immigration of residents of Spanish Louisiana and Florida to settle in the territory of Texas. Yet, there
some important conditions: they must belong to the Roman Catholic Church

How Advertising Affects Our Lives
In the 21st century, companies cannot sell any products without advertising. Currently, most people
will not buy anything before watching an ad for said product. Many people are happy when they see
advertising. When people go out, they see advertising is everywhere. Consumers see it on trains,
buses, taxicabs, and even when they drive on the highways .Advertisements are prevalent on the
internet, TV, radio, magazines, and even different kinds of social media. Promoting ads encourages the
economy to develop and helps in creating new jobs. Advertising is necessary in our life because it has
multiple positive aspects that impact us on a daily basis. Despite their good, there is no way that a
person can escape ads, because they are everywhere. One way that is used the most and is in some
ways very controversial is use of sex to sell products. One of the most successful American
businessmen, Leo Burnett, said, Good advertising does not circulate information, it penetrates the
public mind with desires and belief, (Intext citation).. Nike ads are successful at taking attention by
using appeals of font, choice of Jennifer Van Allen, targeted audience, as well as other rhetorical
elements.
According to the Contemporary Reader, most people have heard the old saying; A good picture is
worth a thousand words, (page37). The Nike ad, shows a picture of a girl running on the road, all
alone, with a good stride. On top of the left side of the ad there are three large words with white

  • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Group Therapy Reichenberg, 2014). This text speaks to the fact that other groups could be based on the idea of racism, oppression or discrimination (Earlet, 2000). This means that the facilitator must be willing to bracket (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014) his own values and be willing to understand the position of the group members. Moreover, due to the nature of the therapy being in a form of a group, the facilitator is required to develop, alongside the members, group norms and boundaries (Schachter, n.d.). This is important as it will serve as a way of maintaining order and respect within the group itself (Schachter, n.d.). Furthermore, the facilitator is required to convey some level of care for the group as well as use this as an opportunity to model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, should a group facilitator follow the order above, it is also essential to mention that the stages do not necessarily persist for a long time and at times, facilitators cannot tell when they ve moved on the next stage. 8. THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF GROUP THERAPY. 8.1. Advantages of Group Therapy. 8.1.1. Diversity of Opinions. Group therapy allows different individuals to come together and share their thoughts, feelings and ideas (Occupy Theory, 2014). Through this interaction group members are able to eliminate negative feelings and experience a sense of relief after sharing their experiences and opinions (Occupy Theory, 2014). 8.1.2. Establishing Comaraderie and Social Support. Another advantage of group therapy is that it is empowering and encourages individuals to meet other people and establish comradeship (Occupy Theory, 2014). In terms of social support, group therapy allows an individual to have a well diversified and strong support structure from other group members (occupy Theory, 2014). Depending on the number of times in which the group meets each member will have built a strong social support at the end of each session. 8.1.3. Group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Group Of Advisory Councillors From Google SUMMARY A group of advisory councillors from Google wrote a report on The Right to Be Forgotten policy in 2015. This policy was created in an effort to offer a balance between freedom of expression and the press. The Right to be Forgotten offers citizens the ability to request for their information to be removed from the results of a Google search. The removal of these search results, or links, upon the request of an individual is referred to as delisting (Floridi et al., 2015). Delisting allows web users to maintain and protect their privacy by limiting the public s access to information about them. It is important to note, however, that while citizens may apply to be delisted, Google does not have to comply with this request. Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, citizens should have the right to access information that is germane to the public. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE POLICY The policy first outlines the nature of the rights at issue in the ruling. Google must decide whether the general public should have the right to easily access an individual s information via the search engine. Google must also consider if the individual requesting to delist experiences harm from [public] accessibility to the information (Floridi et al., 2015, p. 6). Next, the policy addresses the way in which Google must assess each delisting request according to four key pieces of criteria: the data subject s role in public life, the nature of the information, the source, and time (Floridi et al., 2015). When evaluating the data subject s role in public life, Google considers three different types of citizens: individuals with a public personality (e.g. politicians), individuals with no public personality (i.e. average citizens), and those with a defined role in public life (e.g. school directors). Ultimately, the more involved a citizen is in the public sphere, the less likely they are to be delisted. Google also considers the nature of the information. Financial records, private contact information, and false information, are all deemed worthy of privacy according to Google. If, however, the information biases toward a public interest (e.g. information related to criminal offences), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Zeus In Ancient Greek Mythology Zeus was one of the main gods that was featured a lot in the Ancient Greece myths. He was the King of the gods and ruled over the sky, his main symbol was the thunderbolt but others included the eagle and oak tree. His roman counterpart was known as Jupiter or Jove. He appeared in most myths even if they were about other gods often being the one to set the myth up or create the conflict. He was portrayed as an all powerful protagonist and looked up to whereas today his actions would be seen as selfish and narrow minded making him an antagonist. Her roman counterpart was known as Juno. She married Zeus out of shame after he raped. Hera was Zeus s one legal wife, as the greeks were monogamous, but this didn t stop him from having sexual relations outside of his marriage. This was because he believed that he didn t need to abide to the laws of the humans. Hera was often portrayed as being spiteful and jealous towards Zeus, because of his constant infidelity. She often would seek revenge on the whomever he took a favour, as she could not directly punish her husband as he had power over her. she would also wreck havoc on the offspring that Zeus would have with over woman and those women themselves even if they had been raped by Zeus. Zeus would often turn on her with violence if she nagged Zeus too much, with one such occasion being when she and the other gods tied Zeus in ropes and plotted to dispose of him. When he eventually got free she hung her by her wrists from the sky with weights tied to her ankles. He eventually let her down when all of the other gods swore not on rebel again. This was not a one time thing through as he would often punish her as a way to show his dominance, and to remind her that as the man of the relationship, he was the one with the power. • 6. Attention In Meinke s Advice To My Son The typical American dream consists of a white picket fence, a beautiful house, and a perfect family, but would that dream continue to exist with constricting economic and behavioral factors? More specifically, would a child s quality of life be disturbed by these issues? From day one, society is told that all they need to have a happy, successful life are the bare necessities, but recent studies and personal accounts have proven otherwise. However, when a child does receive this attention, they form a closer relationship with their parents. An occurrence of this happens in the short story Advice to My Son, when the father gives his son life changing advice. The father gives his son the advice to live his days as fruitful as possible and to make them last (Meinke 1 5). Without the closeness of this relationship, the father would not have given his son the meaningful advice, so the son would not repeat his mistakes. Having hope for his son, the father is able to relate, and it is because the father cares for his child and the child s wellbeing. • 7. The Canon of the New Testament What we know today as the New Testament was compiled over a period of many decades. It was first referenced as the New Testament by Clement of Alexandria. It is believed that the books that comprise what we know as the New Testament canon were in existence no later than the end of the first century. The included books varied by different sources until the fourth century when the Bishop of Alexandria, Athanasios, included them in a letter to his flock in AD 367. One of the top apologists of the time was Irenaeus. He declared that there could only be four gospels and to add or subtract from that number would be heresy. He also countered Marcion who that the Old Testament God had been evil, different from the New Testament God. Marcion wanted to remove all ties to Judaism from Christianity and only accepted Luke and ten of Paul s letters in his canon. Irenaeus responded by emphasizing the authority of all four Gospels and all thirteen of Paul s letters. Marcion s canon was followed by other varying canons over the next two centuries. One list which was very close to our current canon was the Muraturian Canon. It appears to include the four Gospels, Acts, I and II Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Galatians, I and II Thessalonians, Romans, Philemon, Titus, I and II Timothy, all three epistles of John, and Revelations. It directly rejected the epistles of Paul to the Laodiceans and the Alexandrians, and questioned strongly the Revelation of Peter. The first list that clearly defined the 27 books that we know today as the New Testament was contained in a letter written by Athanasius, the bishop of Rome, in AD 367. • 8. How Climate Change Is Inherently Flawed Because of the most recent election season, there has been a renewed interest in the topic of climate change. In the 2016 Presidential election, the green party received over 1.2 million popular votes nationwide, when they usually receive only 100 thousand or so. With an increased interest in the topic of climate change, I feel it is necessary to provide factual data and projections on the path climate change will take to decrease misinformation. I proclaim the correct course of action to solve the problem of climate change is to do nothing. Almost every argument I hear today discussing what we should do about climate change is inherently flawed because of their assumptions about the future. The current climate change model for the future assumes technology will not improve in any fundamental way for the next twenty or thirty years. Every argument which says climate change will be irreversible if we do not act now assumes we will only have our current technology at our disposal. I know for a fact technology advancements were not considered for these arguments because there is not a good way to predict what kinds of technology we will have in the future. Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a stronger case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a colleague familiar with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then contacted a company in New York used to develop methods of DNA profiling or fingerprinting for assistance. The implication is that anybody apart from the marker is prevented by the Act to make reproductions without authority (Craig, 2011, p. 105). On 23rd of June 2015, the rules of regulating sound recordings were modified. The modifications were to the effect that unpublished sound recordings would last for fifty years after fixation. If the sound recordings are published before the copyright expires, the term application is seventy years before its publication or a hundred years from the date of fixation. Consequently, it also extends the copyright for musical performers works contained in the recordings (Craig, 2011, p.226). Lil Kim Research Paper Lil Kim is the self made success story of a woman who worked hard to make a career for herself, but who also fits into the objectified sex symbol most hip hop feminists ridicule. She made use of some of the most powerful tools black women in hip hop have to combat the stereotype of black feminine sexuality. Black women are seen as hypersexual, Jezebels, who will use the power of sex to get what they want. Since the beginning of her career she kept the image of being a Queen Bee , a sex symbol that combines her music, along with the words and images she raps, to resemble a hip hop feminist. A thorough understanding of what Kuhn is communicating when he uses the terms normal science and paradigm is a vital component for individuals that read The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. By understanding what Kuhn means when he uses these two terms, one should be enabled to, perhaps, more accurately fully extract and understand the argument that Kuhn is making within this book. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kuhn argues that paradigms contribute to a sense of order within communities because the community s research is based off of a prearranged set of accepted beliefs. Paradigmatic boundaries contribute to a sense of clarity that results from fact gathering activities within scientific communities. In contrast, the collection of mere facts , which do not stem from paradigmatic boundaries of explanation, results in nothing but puzzlement (Kuhn, 2012, p. 35). As a result, Kuhn argues that paradigms are vital for establishing validity in regard to the questions and findings that are related to fact gathering activities. In contrast, the absence of a paradigm would pose a major disadvantage for a hypothetical scientific community that does not use a paradigm based approach for fact gathering activities. Kuhn believes nothing but confusion could be derived from a collection of facts that belong to endeavors that are not rooted in a scientific community s paradigm. In class, a paradigm was metaphorically compared to the glue that binds a scientific community together. This metaphorical comparison was used in an effort to illustrate the intimate relationship between paradigms and normal science that Kuhn describes in this book. After reading Kuhn s book, and becoming well acquainted with his usage of paradigm in the context of his book, I could not agree more with the argument that he is making throughout this book. Therefore, it is obvious that paradigms mold fact gathering activities related to normal science, that there are advantages to fact gathering activities stemming from paradigms, and that absence of a paradigm would possibly plague a scientific community when scientists would try to approach fact gathering ... After the war, Seymour developed mental disorders which caused him to become detached and no longer be accepted in adult society. Scott Fitzgerald reveals in the short story An Alcoholic Case that some challenges are remarkably difficult to overcome. For example, the nurse becomes fed up with the cartoonist because she feels it is hopeless to help him if he does not want to help himself. It was so utterly senseless as she put a bandage on her finger where she had cut it while picking up the glass she made up her mind she would never take an alcoholic case again (Fitzgerald). When the cartoonist felt he would never get better, he came to the decision that he wanted to die and there was nothing the nurse could have done to stop him. She knew death she had heard it, smelt its unmistakable odour, but she had never seen it before it entered into anyone, and she knew this man saw it in the corner of his bedroom; that it was standing there looking at him while he spat from a feeble cough and rubbed the result into the braid of his trousers. It shone there crackling for a moment as evidence of the last gesture he ever made (Fitzgerald). • 18. Homeschooling Is The Issue Of Socialization The term homeschooling refers to the practice of parents educating a child at home, rather than in a conventional public or private school setting. These children would otherwise be enrolled in elementary or secondary school. Homeschooling is seen in the United States today as a viable alternative to public school education. According to widely repeated estimates, as many as two million American children are schooled at home, with the number growing at 15 to 20 percent per year (McDowell Ray 2000, Lines 2000). Despite the rising prevalence of the subject, we are left without basic information on the nature of homeschooling in the United States. What motivations do parents have for choosing homeschooling religion, concerns about school quality, or other motivations? What are the limitations that these families face? Lastly, what strengths do these children exhibit with homeschooling? The common argument in limitations of homeschooling is the issue of socialization in homeschoolers development. The counter argument from homeschooling advocates is that homeschooling does not mean a hermit like existence for the children. The idea is that social skills do not have to be developed only with people who are the exact same age but experience of forming meaningful relationships social skills will get solidified. Some families feel judged by making the choice to homeschool even when it meets their child s needs, although today they are becoming more mainstream ( Collom, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have intimidated me for as long as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was going to come a day that I could understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course has contributed significally to this newfound understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the same time fun for yourself and the students you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could either be close to almost nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that conclusion, students can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an example provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell her doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact amount, she would give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able pieces, from here Dr. Math took away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1. • 27. Symbolism In La Inferno For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular, recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell. The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud, violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top predator in the food chain. The Desecration Of The Ecclesiastical Congregation Essay For a religion that professes a conviction for love, peace, and understanding, Christianity, during its early stages, was met with a great deal of maliciousness, turbulence, and misconceptions. While Christianity was growing, the Roman Empire witnessed several attempts to stop the spread of it. Unfortunately, the persecution of Christians was common during the first through third centuries; a clear indicator that much of Rome and the pagan societies within its boundaries decided to deal with Christianity in the most extreme and horrific way possible. These instances of severe aggression towards Christians were often sporadic and local. One of the communities that oversaw the expulsion of the Christians within their ranks was the town of Lyons in Gaul. The description of the desecration of the ecclesiastical congregation in this area is documented in a letter written by the churches located nearby to their contemporaries in Asia Minor. It details the tortures of those that proclaimed the faith and what they were submitted to. Young and old were imprisoned, beaten, grilled, mauled by animals, and much more. But what could cause the pagan majority to inflict such gory damage to the seemingly peaceful religion? The same letter condemning these actions also provides an answer. Persuasion Against Whale Hunting Save Our Whales: End Whale Hunting April 7, 2011 Save our Whales, End Whale Hunting Whales, often called the Ocean s gentle giant are one of the biggest species/mammals that spend their entire life in the ocean. The smallest known whale is the Minke which, by adulthood is only 8.5 feet long; the largest known whale is the Blue whale , which measures 94.5 feet long. Since the ancient times, people have written about encounters with this mammal. Ancient Roman and Greek artists inspired by the dolphin s apparent intelligence and kindness to humans began to adopt dolphin motifs on vases, coins, mosaics, sculptures, and paintings. This might seem like a large population; compared to prior figures their population did not significantly increase. What little increase that was found, was/is thought to be due to overlapping , or rather recounting whales. Researchers believe that many of these whales interact with different stocks/groups (NAMMCO, 1995). These are not the only whales to pay the price; since the beginning of commercial whaling over one million sperm whales, two hundred and fifty thousand humpbacks, and two million other whales have been killed for profit. Are times changing? Records dating back to the 1931 1932 whale hunting season (ten years before the International Whaling Commission was put in place to protect and stop whaling), 28,325 blue whales were slaughtered. In 1946, the Whaling Commission was formed; however, even with protection, thirty years later (1963 1964) over 29,255 sperms kills were hunted for their meat and other products. Today, even with protection, it is estimated that only 5 10% of the original whale population remains (Carwardine, Hoyt, Fordyce, Gill, 1998). Explosive Harpoons The use of harpoons to kill whales is not new; however, in 1986 Japan started using explosive harpoons, or as the Japan refer to it harpoon grenades (Leake Ryall, 2006). This harpoon is designed to go through the skin of whale and explode into pieces. The theory behind this harpoon is that it will hit vital organs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Locus of Control Contsruct Essay Locus of Control, originally conceptualized by Julian Rotter (1966), has been found to be critical to numerous studies. Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the forces that determine reinforcement. Individuals with internal orientation perceive rewards as contingent based on personal behavior, whereas those with external orientation attribute reinforcement received to external factors such as chance and powerful others (Levenson 1981). This essay examines the nature and significance of this psychological construct, especially in academic achievement and health domains. Additionally, it has been argued that high internality is positively associated with leadership while high scores of powerful others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creator, Leveson (1972), found that participants with chance orientation shared traits which could not be distinguished by the P or I scales. Further, the study in anti pollution activism also support the validity. Responses from participants demonstrated that involvement was different for those having high scores on the P scale, compared with the Chance scale (Levenson 1974). Therefore, the Levenson Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate. As an important predictor of health behaviors, generally, Locus of Control construct supplies health problems and treatments with essential insights. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring high on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of recovery (Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients participation in health treatment cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are more likely to engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self control which are pivotal determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978). Critics might argue that the correlations between Locus of Control construct and health issue are not significant. Some researchers, however, suggest that this construct has low predictive power since it fails to predict some aspects of health, including survival rates with regard to cancer patients, controls of metabolic in diabetes ... • 45. Legalizing Marijuana For Open Recreational Use In 2014, Florida joined the growing ranks of states that have found themselves engaged in the legislative and moral debates regarding whether the time has arrived to legalize the possession, distribution, and use of marijuana for medicinal and/or recreational use. While hotly debated on both sides, one of the more ironic factors regarding the issue of legalization is that it was found to be perhaps the most logically and fairly debated topics of the state s recent mid term elections. The facts of legalization are becoming more black and white and less about morality, which may be a testament to why 24 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws legalizing medicinal marijuana. Of those states, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have also legalized marijuana for recreational use. Although the idea of legalizing marijuana for open recreational use may further incense opponents of its government sanctioning, it can also be contended that doing so only gives state and federal entities a better ability to monitor how marijuana is being distributed and removes a great deal of the temptation or necessity for users and distributors to use subvert the process of medicinal dispensing to obtain cannabis for recreational consumption. This issue also creates a new angle on states rights, as each state is legally able to enact its own policies and laws, yet the federal government can ultimately intervene and determine any state s legislation to be illegal. ...
