Greed Vs. Humanity In The Backdraft Of Technology
Greed vs. Humanity In the story The Backdraft of Technology Stephanie Alaimo and Mark Koester
indicated the many disadvantages of technology in our society. Although there are many advantages
with advance technology; Alaimo and Koester still warn the readers about the negative cause and
effects of technology in the present time and the future. They claim that technology have eliminate
most of a lower class jobs. Their suggestion was to Say No! to self checkout.
(reason) With Technology being a huge role in the business world we are bound to encounter them in
restaurant, stores, and factory. People are demanding faster and better service and those are the quality
that technology can provide. Because human services are more expensive than a machine,
corporations are more likely to put machine rather than human in their business for their survival. Yes,

stay in the past because technologies are the foundation to our future survival and needs.(conclusion?)
There is a reason why Engineer is the most employees. That is because Technology will give people
the opportunity to work in more advance jobs. With more educated and highly skills people; the

Jerk Behaviors That Attract Girls Analysis
5 Jerk Behaviors That Attract Girls Part 1
By Joseph Matthews
Mar 14, 2009
It s the age old question every nice guy ends up asking himself at one time or another...
Why do jerks get the women, and me, the good guy, is stuck being alone?
Sometimes, it s easy to believe that Jerks have some type of magical power that allows them to sucker
women into liking them and somehow have them hang around while they treat them like dirt.
This happens SO MUCH, that some guys believe that they actually have to BECOME Jerks to get
women attracted to them.
But make no mistake about it no body likes a jerk. Not even the women who date them! So if that s
the case, why is it obvious that they get so many girls to go for them?
Well, remember that Jerk s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerks realize it s not the woman s job to approach the guy. If you want something, you have to go after
it.
So if the Nice Guys were to start walking up and talking to women, they might be surprised to find
most women WELCOME their company and really want to meet a good fella to treat them right!
3. Jerk s don t censor themselves
Part of the reason Jerk s come off as fun, interesting, or exciting is because they aren t worried about
offending anybody. They will talk about whatever, joke about whatever, and even broach sensitive
topics of conversation without a blink of an eye.
Too many nice guys hold back when they talk to a girl they like. They NEVER bring up sex. They don
t even joke about it. Heck, they don t even display any sign they even LIKE the girl.
Because of this, the Nice Guys become the Boring Guys.
The Jerk will come along, make an off color joke, tell the girl a racy story, and even MAKE FUN of
the girl!
He could care less if he offends somebody. To the Jerk, he s just doing what comes naturally to him.
Attitude like this is like a breath of fresh air to many women, because they mistake it as

Analysis Of The Story August Of Dimes
The story:
March of Dimes charity was in news in November 15, because of an alleged fraud committed by one
of its employees named Ms. Karima Manji. Karima Manji has been working with MOD since 2005.
She has been handling the portfolio of property manager and used to look after MOD s non profit
residences. She is alleged to have used various means to siphon funds from the charity, including
forging invoices and expense claims, and funnelling money into a false March of Dimes bank account.
She has been charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by a
crime over $5,000 and presenting a forged document. She also served as the executive director of
Kingsmere retirement living in Alliston and has been placed on administrative leave after being
charged by Toronto police of allegedly defrauding MOD of $0.8 Mn. Officials at MOD has confirmed
of ongoing investigation into the incident and those of Kingsmere retirement living have stated that
Manji s employment is not linked to her involvement with MOD s .
Controversy:
This article brings out the issue of misuse of organization s resources for personal gains and
subsequent erosion of brand image. This may have unprecedented consequences for MOD as its
donations and work done may be affected. It can be ascertained that, this may turn valuable donor s
away and put organization under various kind of investigations further impacting its brand image.
From the facts, it can be known that grants

The House Building Methods Within The Uk
Introduction
With more interest into the industrialization of house building methods within the UK, attention has
been narrowed down to certain manufactured structural components and specifically the problems of
wet trades . Less focus has been put on quality and how efficient the assembly process on site. The
process of house building has been focused on traditional methods rather than a specific method. The
absence of standards which should be applicable for good practice, these problems can be seen on the
same site. Process documentation describes the process specifically to have certain standards, these
changes are needed to improve on the whole building environment.
The house industry within the UK has been judged negatively for lacking build quality and a slow
pace of new creative inventions (Ball, 1998). The UK is falling behind other countries which are using
improved materials and processes (Sarja 1998; Gann et al, 1999). Less considerations is taking care of
at the fitting stage while on site due to variable workforce skills. This issue has become bigger due to
the dependence on self employed workers this has hindered the creation of new inventions (Ball,
1998).
House Building Industry
The UK housing industry has been taken over by builders working privately (Bramley et al, 1995).
Creative inventions have often been placed second on level of importance this has tried to be
overcome by opposition between workers but also to keep skills up to standard (Ball, 1996,

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery Analysis
Going to the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery at 1470 Highland Avenue, Melbourne really illustrates the
similar motivation behind people s paintings. The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery displays the works of
different local Florida painters and sculptors. The paintings at the gallery consisted of different types
of paints such as watercolors, acrylic, and oil. There were also different types of painting forms and
styles ranging from regular landscapes to abstract painting. Next to every area of the works by
different artists was a biography and synopsis written by the particular artist. In each of the artist s
biographies they would talk about their career, personal life, and what their own motivation is behind
their paintings. What was interesting is that

What Are The Characteristics Of The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era was a period of great change in English literature where most works were directly
influence by social and political problems of 19th century England. The Victorian Era was a period
spanning Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. This period proceeded the Romantic period in
English History which had poetry as its main source of literature. Nevertheless, the most important
genre in the Victorian Period was the novel. In contrast, the Romantic Era, the era prior to the
Victorian Era, most influential genre was poetry. Most of the major literary artist came from England,
even though, there were also authors from other countries in the same time period of the Victorian Era.
To demonstrate, some of these authors were: Mark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Undoubtedly, the literature of this era was relatively easier to read than works from other eras, the plot
was more interesting and easier to understand, and the main protagonist of the novel were the same
people who read it (first person point of view) so the reader was deeply involved in the character s
feelings and adventures. Moreover, the setting of the novels was big, well known, cities that the reader
probably already is familiar with. The Victorian literature characteristics were mostly composed of
social issues that plagued the middle class, and the major changes the population were seeing with
industrialization. Some notable characteristics were for example: industrialization, as seen with
Charlotte Brontë novel Shirley ; serialization, as seen with Charles Dickens The Woman in White ;
social class, taking for example Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice ; Science vs. Religion, the
idea that science could explain what religion could not was challenged by Charles Darwin in his book
The Origin of the Species ; progress, as is the case for Gerge Eliot s novel The Middlemarch ; and
finally, utilitarianism, being manifested in Charles Dickens s novel Hard Times . Most of the
characteristics are caused by Britain s social, industrial, and political changes

The Disability Of Nemo
The aim of this essay is to acquaint gatherings of people with another entire new point of view about
disability. Nemo (a young clownfish) the primary character is the middle center of the entire film who
has a physical disability~ an immature /deformed fin because of a barracuda assault on his mom and
the other siblings eggs. Nemo s father Marlin is simply one more regular defensive father that doesn t
trust that his child can do precisely what he needs to do on account of his lucky Fin . He is
domineering, and basic from that point onward, keeping him from investigating the outside world
because of his disability. While resisting his overprotective father, he gets taken by a scuba jumper and

He see himself as a typical child who is energized for school, who needs to make companions, go on
experiences and who needs to be offered opportunity to do what other could manage with no
limitation, in spite of Marlin s overprotective child rearing. Nemo is resolved to investigate the reef
and meet new individuals, all to his dad s disappointment. He is contempt and is willing to venture out
of his dad s zone of comfort. Nemo oppose his father s wishes to show him that he could do it
independently. For instance: he swims out to sea towards the butt . Nemo has faith in himself that he
could accomplish something, regardless of being told it was impossible. Nemo constantly fights
against all the suppositions about him due to his disability, to both pros and cons outcomes. After
Nemo is caught, he is subjected to a practically indistinguishable circumstance to the above one. He
gets stuck in a tube in the fish tank but unlike the pervious time, his dad wasn t here. Nemo expected
that he need assistance, Gill (leader of the fish tank) won t give anybody a chance to help Nemo. Gill
tells Nemo that you are the one who got yourself in there, you could get yourself out and as opposed
to doing it for him, he gives nemo directions on the best way to do it for himself. At the point when
Nemo challenges that he has an awful blade, Gill lets him know that never halted me , and shows
Nemo his own particular mutilated extremity. Finally, he got

Criminal Profiler
1. What is a criminal profiler? A criminal profiler falls under the category of law enforcement. They
are a form of criminal investigator. Profilers may use behavioral analysis to aid them in pinpointing a
suspect. I am interested in pursuing this occupation because what motivates people to act the way they
do is intriguing. A profiler can learn a vast amount about a person by simply observing their actions
and reactions. The profession of a criminal profiler can be grouped into the categories of requirements,
responsibilities, and ramifications. There are strict requirements involved with becoming a criminal
profiler. 2, 5 A profiler must have a bachelor s degree in criminal justice, psychology, social sciences,
or behavioral sciences (Criminal Profiler). 5 Popular schools for this occupation include Kaplan
University, Ashford University, and the University of South Dakota (Study). A benefit of studying this
occupation is how the degree programs overlap and bear resemblance. 4 Also, Durant High School
provides a forensics class that would aid in preparation for this career. 2, 6 Another couple examples
of requirements for becoming an investigator include passing a thorough background investigation
and completing an eighteen week period of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico (Clinical).
Neither of which is easy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each requirement and responsibility leads to the outcome of success. Each area of is equally
important. Specifically, the knowledge obtained through the requirements accompanied by the
character built through responsibilities. However, the ramifications are priceless. Every hour of

through the door. Including resting easy at night knowing the offender is locked away. For these
reasons, I continue to desire to pursue this

Pros And Cons Of Death Punishment
In terms of the death penalty, certain crimes do deserve this punishment, under specific circumstances.
Heinous crimes, such as the murder of the 1st and 2nd degree and rape, should be punishable by death.
However, this punishment shall only occur so long as the criminal(s) pass both the M Naghten Rule
and the Durham Rule. In the gruesome murders of the Clutters family, Perry Edward Smith and
Richard Eugene Hitchcock were both deemed perfectly sane under both rules, showing that both men
deserved the death penalty. Although there is plenty of proof that Hitchcock was sane, there is also
enough evidence to prove that Smith was mentally unstable. Due to this evidence, Hitchcock
rightfully got what he deserved, while Smith was wrongfully done. According to Cornell Law School,
the M Naghten Rule is when a defendant is claimed to be innocent when at the time of committing the
act, the accused was laboring under such a defect of reason, from disease of the mind, as not to know
the nature and quality of the act he was doing or, if he did know it, that he did not know what he was
doing was wrong ( Insanity Defense ). In Layman s terms, an accused is deemed innocent if he/she
does not know right from wrong and/or does not know what he/she is doing at the time of the crime.
In regards to Richard Hitchcock, he is not protected under this said rule. Proof that Hitchcock knew
what he was doing and knew it was wrong is expressed in C J Lewis article of Hitchcock v. State. His

Taking a Look at Niemann-Pick Disease
Niemann Pick disease an inherited condition involving lipid metabolism, which is the breakdown,
transport, and use of fats and cholesterol in the body is the condition in which abnormal lipid
metabolism causes harmful amounts of lipid to accumulate in parts of the body. There are 3 forms of
this disease: Type A, B, and C. The general focus of this paper will be Type C. Niemann Pick s disease
Type C (NPC) is disease in which unesterified cholesterol and other lipids accumulate in late
endosomes/lysosomes (LE/L) of all cells and tissues. Resulting in excessive amounts of cholesterol
accumulation within the liver and spleen and excessive amounts of other lipids accumulating in the
brain. The cause of NPC is quite distinct from A B whose patients have defects in their lysosomal acid
sphingomyelinase gene (3). On the contrary, NPC is a recessive, autosomal disorder that affects
around 1 in 150,000 births and causes premature death due to relentless neurodegeneration as well as
lung and liver dysfunction (4,5). NPC can further be divided into two subgroups known as C1 and C2,
which are each, caused by a different gene mutation. One of the many interesting features of this
disease is that symptoms may appear as early as childhood or as late as adulthood. The symptoms that
follow this disease are the inability to move ones eyes up and down, enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, or
jaundice in young children. But it is common for only one or two symptoms to appear in the early

Tax Treatment of Gambling Loss as in Tschetschot Case
Abstract
In Tschetschot v. Commissioner, 93 TCM 914 (2007), the tax court ruled that taxpayer s losses from
participating in tournament poker were limited to the amount of her winnings. The court held that
tournament poker is, despite its differences from other types of poker, essentially a wagering activity
and therefore should not be treated differently from other forms of gambling for tax purposes. The
court also rejected the taxpayer s equal protection argument to treat tournament poker as sports, on the
basis of the policy decisions of the congress to treat business based on wagering activities differently.

sites attract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commissioner
The facts in Tschetschot were quite simple, and there was not any dispute regarding them. It is
nevertheless helpful to single out the facts that are more relevant to the issue on hand, which would
help in following the court s reasoning in reaching its holdings.
Mrs. Tschetschot works as a database project manager, and was also a professional tournament poker
player in 2000. She then claimed a net loss from her tournament poker activity as business losses on
her Schedule C. The commissioner determined that this deduction related to the tournament poker
should be subject to the limitation provided in Code §165(d) as an itemized deduction, to the extent of
the Mrs. Tschetschot s winnings. Based on that, the commissioner assessed a deficiency of income tax
as well as an accuracy related penalty under Code §6662(a).
The tax court ruled in favor of the commissioner, rejecting the petitioner s argument that tournament
poker, unlike other types of poker, is not a wagering activity. The court reached its decision by first
defining the term wagering using the term s plain, obvious, and rational meaning. Therefore, the court
adopted the dictionary meaning of to wager, which is defined as to bet or the act of betting. Based on
this, the court concluded that while there are differences between tournament poker and other types of
poker, none rise to the level of meaningful, substantive differences that would warrant different tax
treatment under the

The Art of Editing and Film Meaning Essay
As one of the most celebrated and best known Soviet directors, Sergei Eisenstein s theoretical writings
and practical uses of editing are a crucial part of cinema s development. He viewed the art form of
film as a tool with which to inflict certain reactions and emotions to audiences, be it through shock or
empathetic understanding. His editing techniques were key elements to achieve these effects, carefully
planned out and sought to create conflict in meaning. Art is not a mirror which reflects the historical
struggle, but a weapon of that struggle. (Vertov in Enzensberger, 1972) His keen editing work proved
cinema s propagandistic potential and was used as such to instigate the masses against the Soviet
bourgeoisie. Therefore, not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brought up without a formal cinematic training, the director started off his career in an LA video store
and making connections by talking about his enticing script ideas. After managing to get Natural Born
Killers (1994) made by a different director, Oliver Stone, he was disappointed with the final film and
decided not to have his style and vision tainted by other filmmakers. This is why Pulp Fiction is
exemplary for his unique vision and techniques.
As mentioned, Tarantino s narrative trademark is non linearity, as he used it in his first feature films,
Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Pulp Fiction, and continues to employ it in his other work. He breaks
narrative conventions by avoiding to clearly signpost flashbacks, for instance. Tzioumakis exemplifies
the shift in storytelling through a lack of blurred images, intensification of music, framing of a
character in a close up to suggest that he or she is remembering or imagining something, and so on .
(Tzioumakis, 2006, p. 8) Referring back to Eisenstein, Tarantino s editing choice is a tool for
disorienting the viewer, because even though the narrative is set out in the scriptwriting phase, it is the
edit that makes these temporal transitions difficult to register.
The audience is shown pieces of the narrative like a puzzle, which they have to assemble in order to
understand the full plot. Comprehension of the central action is supplemented by flashbacks to
different characters, giving the movie a Rashomon

Integrating Quotes Into Paper
Tips on Introducing Quotes General Principles Writers use quotations for a variety of purposes: to
argue with another author s definition of a term, to provide statistical evidence or testimony to validate
a claim; to present the reader with a statement we wish to refute or discuss in detail. If writers overdo
and include too many quotations in a research essay, readers will form the negative impression that the
authors of those sources are more authoritative than the writer of the research paper. Often the voices
of those authorities drown out the writer s voice, in a sense taking over authorship of the paper.
Writers should use direct quotations only when the source s words are particularly relevant, powerful,

An interesting relationship noticed by the Wisers was that of newly wed girls and their mother in laws.
Mother in laws would keep an eye on their daughter in laws or bahus. These bahus would have to
please their mother in laws and take care of the household and everyone living in the family or in this
case joint family where brothers and their families live together with their parents under one roof.
Therefore, one can see that Karimpur described by the Wisers in 1930 was quite backward and
orthodox. The next half of the paper will be focused on the changes that took place over the decades in
Karimpur. What were the changes in the second half of the century when Wisers and Susan Wadley
visited Karimpur? Firstly, the role of women had changed a little bit. Secondly, education had
increased and more and more villagers had B.A. degrees and moved to cities to find work. Thirdly,
technological changes had brought enormous agricultural growth in the farms. The rigid caste system
had slowed down a little bit and the mutual relationship of Jajmani system had declined as well.
Finally, the younger generation was more in touch with the world through cities and education, the
lower castes had more access to land ownership and most of the mud houses were transformed into
brick houses or pakka houses. The roles of women had started to change in the 60s and later as

My Memories Of My Grandfather
Some might look at a pile of red and white dice as an irrelevant object, but to me they had a deeper
meaning. To me they meant the best memories of my grandfather. They meant how he would take us
fishing and while we waited for a bite he would tell me stories of playing professional football while I
played with the dice. To me they meant the last memories of my grandpa. My grandma and grandpa
lived only 2 hours away in a tiny town just outside of State College, the town was called
Hollidaysburg. My grandpa had lived there his whole life. He played sports for the local High School.
He was All American in football, All State in basketball, and All American in baseball. My grandma
told me stories about how she went to the rival high school, and how they would try there hardest to
throw him off his game. She said to me We would make signs to try to get in his head, but it seemed
like nothing would work. I asked Was he really that good? She responded Well, every time he touched
the ball in basketball we would double team him, and he still averaged about 30 points a game. she
continued When we would play him in football he never came off the field, he was the kicker, the
punter, a tight end, and a linebacker. I sat there in disbelief, I hadn t realized how powerful he was
when he was in highschool. I could hear him trudging down the hallway he opened the door and I saw

Inequality in Australia Essay
Over the last two decades the Australian population has faced a number of economic instabilities that
has seen the gap between the haves and have nots increase. To determine who the haves and have nots
are an in depth investigation will be performed examining the circumstances under which the gap can
be manipulated. The economic wellbeing of individuals is largely determined by their command over
economic resources (ABS, 2009). The wellbeing of individuals who are classified as haves are usually
people who are asset rich, contain bonds, shares and are fairly affluent. The wellbeing of individuals
who are classified as have nots are usually the working poor, who have little assets and little

Australia is a market economy which distributes income to factors of production land, labour, capital
and enterprise. Income as defined by L. Kirkwood et al as the inflow of money to one sector of an
economy from another. The distribution of income in the economy is in the form of wages, salaries,
rent, interests and profit, all which are distributed by the factors of production (L. Kirkwood et al:
2006). Unlike income, wealth is the stock of goods and assets owned by individuals and the nation as
a whole at a given period of time L. Kirkwood et al: 2006). As well as possessions individuals can also
obtain wealth through education or obtaining a particular skill. It is with wages and salaries that
determine the income and the next most important category government pensions and cash benefits L.
Kirkwood et al: 2006). In the 21st century the unemployed or sole parent households become reliant
on income support and non wage benefits L. Kirkwood et al: 2006). In 2002, 8.6 per cent of GDP was

welfare expenditure in 2005 06 was $90.2 billion, of which $61.3 billion (68%) was cash benefits and
$28.9 billion (32%) benefits in kind (welfare services). Spending on welfare services in 2005 06 was

In analyzing the bargaining power of buyers, it is important to look at both categories under a separate
scope.
End users are those individuals walking in the company stores, ordering a smoothie and a cookie,
paying the cashier and then telling her friend how wonderful the ambiance is. This buyer segment
does not purchase large amounts of product at one time and likely chooses Jamba because of the
quality of the ingredients. With no switching costs and a growing industry offering many options,
patrons of smoothie cafés can freely purchase their delightful cool beverage anywhere. According to
the U.S. Census Bureau the number of stores within the snack and nonalcoholic beverage bars
industry grew from 36,036 in 2002 to 49,463 in 2007 [ (U.S. Census Bureau) ]. This trend means that
Jamba Juice will have to increase customer loyalty to battle the increased competition. The second

Writing Style Analysis Essay
Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic
writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed
journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing
work and stress.
Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing
style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a
formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a
certain structure that is to be followed. For instance, these articles presented an abstract to provide an
overview to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors
present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the
authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are
topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these
areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their
results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the
findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For
example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion
how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas
for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use
within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis
Banks, 2016).
Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles
showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The
major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
(APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used
headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently,
because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to
the same topic.

Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf Moving Beyond a Convoluted Memory of Her Parents
Why would I start with Julia Duckworth Stephen to get to Virginia Woolf? One answer is Virginia s
often quoted statement that we think back through our mothers if we are women (Woolf, A Room of
One s Own). Feminism is rooted not just in a response to patriarchy but also in the history of females
and their treatment of each other. Part of feminism is a reevaluation of the value of motherhood.
But what does Virginia s mother have to do with Virginia s writing? I chose to look at the problem of
inheritance by starting with Julia s first influences on Virginia, particularly her stories for children. I
then move on to portraits of mothers in Virginia s novels. This ... Show more content on

Julia was not only central to her children, husband, and extended family, but a person defined by her
effects on others. This can be seen in the portrait of Mrs. Ramsay as mother, committed nurse,
gracious hostess, and matchmaker, among other things1 (Gillespie and Steele 22). This made it
difficult for her to give any one person, including herself, more than a few minutes of her time.
Angels from the Start
One could say that the feminism that Virginia will evolve is a rebellion against how the patriarchy
represses women (Johnsen). While the patriarchy is an unquestionable active repressor, I put forth that
the matriarchy can also repress women, as in the pressure (primarily from one s mother, by example)
to be the Angel in the House, forever smoothing things over and giving of oneself. This leads me to
ask: did Julia Stephen try to make her daughters into Angels? Julia showed her daughters through the
examples of her stories and her behavior that female behavior was meant to be helpful, caring, and
moderately subservient.
The stories she wrote for her children have female characters that are defined and limited by their
tenderness of heart and anxiety to please (Gillespie and Steele 31). One anomaly can be found in the
character of Maggie in Cat s Meat, who solves an arithmetic problem that stumps her brother. (31)
This reminds me of Rhoda in The Waves sitting alone, held immobile by a math problem while
everyone else goes on with their

George Rogers Clark Fort Sackville Campaign
The George Rogers Clark National Historical Park is located in Vincennes, Indiana, on the banks of
the Wabash River. A memorial stands on the site of Fort Sackville to honor the capture of the fort from
British soldiers by Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark and his men on February 25, 1779, one of
the greatest feats of the American Revolutionary War. Clark s army, aided by French people of the
Illinois country, had marched through freezing floodwaters to gain this victory. The fortes capture

resolution establishing the George Rogers Clark Sesquicentennial Commission on May 23, 1928. A
commission was created for the purpose of designing and constructing at or near the site of Fort
Sackville a permanent memorial, commemorating the winning of the old northwest and the
achievements of George Rogers Clark and his men. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the

During the Vietnam War in 1966, women and children flee villages being bombarded by the Viet Cong
in hopes that they could survive. The photograph presented depicts women and children crouching
down in a muddy canal as they take cover from an intense Viet Cong fire at Bao Trai, about twenty
miles west of Saigon, Vietnam. This represents an iconic photo because it elicits emotion from the
expressions and intensity of the subject, the photo cannot be repeated because of its candid nature and
its vision of a moment in time, and its historical and social values to those effected by the Vietnam
War. An iconic photo is a photograph that has a moral or thematic element which is important to its
historical context and meaning. First of all, this photo is iconic because it elicits many emotions within
the congregation. These mental states present themselves in the faces of the women and children in the

Globalization of the Automotive Industry Essays
Just like the other industries such as apparel, electronics, and consumer goods, the automobile industry
has accelerated its foreign direct investment, cross border trade and global production. The automobile
industry has increased outsourcing and bundled value chain activities in major supplier chains. As a
result, more developed countries that serve as suppliers have increased their involvement in trade and
FDI. With these increased supplier capabilities, large national suppliers have become global suppliers
and are now controlling multinational operations. This is because of their increased capability of

Participation of developing economies in globalization of the automotive industry was enhanced by
innovations in telecommunication, technology development, and transportation. These elements made
it possible for the industry to fragment its production processes and creation of smaller assembling
plants that were located in different regions of the world. This segmentation of production processes
created multiple global production networks and expanded the global market making many
developing countries reap the benefits of globalizing the automotive industry (Maxcy 108).
The auto industry adopted new globalization trends that could steer the restructuring of global
manufacturing in order to meet the challenges of global economies. There was the need to improve on
efficiency and maintain a competitive level in the automobile industry. Automotive manufacturers
from Asia, Europe, and the US adopted global trends such as integrating low income countries into the

The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963, By Christopher Paul Curtis
Allegory is defined as a story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for ideas about
human life or for a political or historical situation. The historical fiction novel, The Watsons Go To
Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis is about a family who is exposed to racism after
traveling from Michigan to Alabama for the first time. It shows a political and societal mess that
molds them into new personalities, both dejected and aware of the racial discrimination in America.
The Watsons is an excellent example of an allegory, because the events in the story often seem
symbolic to events involving the civil rights movement happening at that same time in the United

Compare And Contrast In Another Country And Ambush
In both In Another Country by Ernest Hemingway and Ambush by Tim O Brien, there are aspects that
are similar. To get a clear aspect of what both texts look at, Hemingway writes about a short story that
is based on the impacts of World War I on soldiers. The short story mainly focuses on how these
particular soldiers experienced the traumatic event of having to participate in the war which was both
psychologically and physically harmful to them. In Ambush O Brien narrates from a first person
perspective of his account when he was a soldier, the story is based on his last war story that aims at

The theme is similar to the one presented by Hemmingway because of the notion or concept used to

regret is from throwing the grenade and having to kill all those people he killed. The regret is from
killing the soldiers and all he wished for was that the soldiers had just walked away past him, that way
he wouldn t have had to throw the grenade. In developing the theme, O Brien uses visions to show the
regret and also to contemplate on what would have happened if things were to happen differently. The
two stories were both similar in their story line which was about war. However, the main themes in
both stories differ. While one explores World War 1 and the effects it had on the soldiers who played a
part in it, the other explores the resentment one ex soldier has for killing a soldier while at war and he

Tuberculosis Essay
Tuberculosis
Forms of tuberculosis have been present in the human population since ancient times. Fragments of
spinal columns from Egyptian mummies dating back to 2400 BC show definite pathological signs of
tubercular decay. Around 460 BC Hippocrates wrote on the subject of a disease which we now know
as tuberculosis. In his article he warned his colleagues against visiting cases in the late stages of the
disease, because the patient s inevitable death might damage the reputations of the attending
physicians. The world s population remained totally defenseless to the lethal effects of tuberculosis for
thousands of years. Then, around the 17th century scientists began to hypothesize about the nature of

Marten s insight proved to be another enormous step towards the understanding and prevention of
tuberculosis. In the 19th century Hermann Brehmer, a Silesian botany student whom was suffering

the Himalayan mountains mainly to pursue his botanical studies. What he didn t know at the time was
that this journey would be attributed to curing his disease. When Brehmer returned home he began to

hypothesized that his recovery was directly related to the healthier environment found in the
Himalayan mountains. Brehmer built an institution in Gorbersdorf where his patients received a
nutritious diet and spent great amounts of time on their balconies where they were exposed to
continuous fresh air. This clinic was the first step towards the development of a sanatorium. Sanatoria,

Tokugawa Regime Research Paper
The Tokugawa regime controlled Japan by means of strict power and influence for an extended period
of time. Following the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Ieyasu is named shogun which marks the official
start of Tokugawa rule. The Tokugawa regime would last until 1868 and exercised its control in both
an authoritative and idealogical manner. The regime was strict and orderly relying heavily on Shi no
ko sho (social hierarchy). At the top of the social order were the lords and samurai s, which would be
followed by peasants, artisans, and merchants (SPAM). It was expected of those in the lower class s to

The leaders of the Tokugawa regime were able to implement a variety of idealogical apparatuses for
controlling their people. First, is shi no ko sho which is the hierarchal system with the lords and
samurai s at the top and merchants and lower class civilians at the bottom. The idea of SPAM created
a disconnect between classes along with not allowing much of any social mobility at this time. The
five relationships governing the ruler and the subject, father and son, husband and wife, older brother
and younger brother, and friend and friend have been in existence from olden days to the present time.
Second, is Sankin Kotai, this was an alternate attendance system of the Tokugawa period that aimed at
strengthening central power over the damyo (dominal lords). The Sankin Kotai also benefited the
Tokugawa government and made it difficult for uprisings and rebellions to occur from dominal lords
over the pre existing government. And last, is the five house hold system. This system essentially
relied on neighbors and people of the community to make sure everyone was following the code of
Bakufu. These three ideologies display the manipulation and control that the Tokugawa regime were
able to implement over its people. The lower class feared the authority of samurai s and lords and
simply were obeying law because of their social positioning. These ideologies

How People Participate in the Political and Social...
Paper #1 (Revised) How did people, particularly the working class, participate in the political and
social revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries?
Divas in History Throughout history it has been seen that women have a sound role to play in positive
movements against governments. There is a saying, Behind every great man is a great woman . There
have been many events that could only be done by women to get a progressive transformation in
society. There are instances where women and men had to unite. Women took part in many events that
transpired in the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Even though women were
encouraged to hold down the household this was not there only role as they also were the
reinforcement section of the working force, women were the back bone of many revolutions. There
are many important women such as Olympe de Goupes, also many infamous events, but the most
memorable actions in which women were involved might have been the March to Versailles and the
Peterloo Massacre.
Olympe de Gouges battled to give women the entitlement to divorce. In this era it was the man alone
that could divorce. She drove for civil joint venture and was critical of slavery. She was a zealous
feminist who breathed her last breath for her ideals. She disagreed with religious marriage, which she
considered love and trust s grave . She chose the theatre, which was at the head of avant garde politics,

Saber The Hero s Journey
In The Search, by Naguib Mahfouz, the protagonist, Saber, brings forth the question of what it means
to be a genuine hero. After being thrust into a world of uncertainty, he sets off on a search to find his
father. Yet, it is quickly apparent that Saber lacks the qualities to be a hero in the traditional sense.
While Saber does experience a portion of expected heroic like events, he fails to be a typical hero
because of his inability to overcome his transgressions and maintain conventional heroic attributes. He

own future, acquiring a higher education while working as a clerk, a noteworthy feat for a woman in
her times. Saber, the supposed hero, however is unwilling to accommodate for a more reliable and
realistic life. When Elham questions why he does not work he responds, any work I do must come
through my father. It s worthless otherwise (372). And later when she actually offers to find him
possible job opportunities his excuse is only, there s nothing I know how to do (407). Though the

Harry S Truman Dbq
Harry S. Truman
On 8th of January 1947, at Harry S. Truman s first economic report as president to the congress of the
United Sates, he said, America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination
and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand , but little did Truman know that these beliefs of
his would become misunderstood and critiqued by the masses in coming times.
When Harry S. Truman left the presidency in January 1953, he was one of the most unpopular
politicians in the United States. However, this is unjustified as he was a real democrat for the people
and was an honest president. Furthermore, he did not make many poor discussions nor was he
inadequate leader, yet he got undeserved and bias criticism by the people of the United States. Truman
continually faced tough challenges and had to pick up from where Franklin D. Roosevelt s
unanticipated death left the nation in a mess. He was the Commander in Chief of the United States
military during the final months of World War II. Under his command, the U.S. dropped two atomic
bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, effectively ending the war. For many Americans, Truman s
legacy as the nation s leader centres on these controversial decisions. He had courage, imagination and
an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand, yet he was branded as a bad president during his
time. In spite of that, he has overcome his challenges and had stayed strong even after he returned to

My mom gave me a great idea for a theme that I would carry throughout my posters, my speech and
my clothing attire on Election Day. I researched pictures I could put on posters. I bought stickers to
hand out to people on election day that went along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It turned out I didn t have it easy, though. Tiffani had a great campaign going and a lot of people were
supporting her. It was fun walking down the freshman/sophomore hallway during campaign week
because our class had posters plastered all over our wall. There wasn t a lot of wall left to see because
of all the posters. Walking down the hallway wasn t only fun,but scary at the same time. Tiffani s
posters were awesome, which made more people back her up. They also made me jealous because my
posters weren t as creative. My posters stuck with my Bee theme though, which was one trait Tiffani s
posters didn t have.
Tiffani and I talked to each other about running against each other. She assured me that nothing would
change if I won, and I told her the same. I knew that if she won, I would be fine with that. I had
already overloaded myself with activities and if I didn t have Student Government to worry about I
would be much better off. Even though she assured me, I still feared that if I won, Tiffani would be
very jealous and resentful towards me. It would also be hard to talk about Student Government
activities with Tiffani if I made it and she didn t.
All these fears and conceited ideas I had, I prayed about. I told God everything. It didn t matter to me
if I won or not, I just wanted to keep Tiffani s friendship. After I prayed, God took that into His

My Personal Statement On Elementary Education
I was home on leave after serving 15 months in Iraq, spending time with my family and connecting
with people I haven t seen in a while. My mother arranged for me to speak to my brother s 3rd grade
class since they had written letters to me while I was deployed. It was something I felt that I owed
since the letters were cheerful and really helped when I was over there. I was a bit nervous because I
have never done something like this before, public speaking was not a strong suit of mine. While
visiting with the students and answering questions I fell in love with being in the classroom. After
finishing my commitment to the military, I continued my education and got my degree in Elementary
Education. I am currently finishing up my 3rd year in teaching 2nd grade and love every minute of it.
Critical thinking is something that should be taking place during every lesson. I engage my students in
this higher level order thinking by asking multi level questions that may have more than one answer. I
also foster thoughtful discussions during out social learning lessons, such as encouraging healthy
debate. Being able to communicate and elaborate their thinking is important. Because I teach at the
primary level so sometimes in order to get students to engage in critical thinking, I have to model it
through discussion or through work. In the discussion, I use various questioning strategies and use
various introductory phrases in order get students to open up and reveal that they are

Involvement And The Effect On The Failure Of The Terrorist...
In this presentation, I will discuss some examples of failed cooperation and the impact on the failure
to prevent the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001; the likelihood of improving cooperation, given
the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission; verify whether the reforms recommended have been
implemented and of course give some recommendation if any. However, before I dabble into that, I
will like to start with intelligence definition, brief history and evolution of intelligence in the United.
Intelligence as we already discussed, deals with the process of collecting, analyzing, and providing
refined information to the policy makers, which they uses to form decisions about potential threats to
national security and how to prevent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chiefly among them was the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The aftermath of this
lead to the creation of the National Intelligence Authority, a Central Intelligence Group in 1946; and
subsequently enacted into law the National Security Act of 1947 that served as the organizational basis
for the US conduct of the Cold War. The 1947 act also established the Central Intelligence Agency
who will be responsible for the national intelligence mission (Federation of American Scientists,
1996). Also, the influence and prosecution of the cold war contributed largely into the development of
the most basic forms and practices of the U.S intelligence capability (Lowenthal, 2014, p.16). But the
Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1995 was enacted in the fall of 1994 to advance and
harmonize counterintelligence and security practices across the Intelligence Community, especially
the FBI and CIA (Public Law, 1994).
How and why intelligence and law enforcement agencies failed to appreciate the threat before the
actual attacks
However, during the late 1990s, there were increased interests by terrorist organizations to carry out
against the United States and her interests Worldwide. Typical examples among them were the 1993
World Trade Center bombing, and the East Africa U.S. embassy bombings in1998. This led to concern
that the United States

The House Building Methods Within The Uk Introduction With more interest into the industrialization of house building methods within the UK, attention has been narrowed down to certain manufactured structural components and specifically the problems of wet trades . Less focus has been put on quality and how efficient the assembly process on site. The process of house building has been focused on traditional methods rather than a specific method. The absence of standards which should be applicable for good practice, these problems can be seen on the same site. Process documentation describes the process specifically to have certain standards, these changes are needed to improve on the whole building environment. The house industry within the UK has been judged negatively for lacking build quality and a slow pace of new creative inventions (Ball, 1998). • 11. Pros And Cons Of Death Punishment In terms of the death penalty, certain crimes do deserve this punishment, under specific circumstances. Heinous crimes, such as the murder of the 1st and 2nd degree and rape, should be punishable by death. However, this punishment shall only occur so long as the criminal(s) pass both the M Naghten Rule and the Durham Rule. In the gruesome murders of the Clutters family, Perry Edward Smith and Richard Eugene Hitchcock were both deemed perfectly sane under both rules, showing that both men deserved the death penalty. Although there is plenty of proof that Hitchcock was sane, there is also enough evidence to prove that Smith was mentally unstable. Due to this evidence, Hitchcock rightfully got what he deserved, while Smith was wrongfully done. According to Cornell Law School, the M Naghten Rule is when a defendant is claimed to be innocent when at the time of committing the act, the accused was laboring under such a defect of reason, from disease of the mind, as not to know the nature and quality of the act he was doing or, if he did know it, that he did not know what he was doing was wrong ( Insanity Defense ). In Layman s terms, an accused is deemed innocent if he/she does not know right from wrong and/or does not know what he/she is doing at the time of the crime. NPC can further be divided into two subgroups known as C1 and C2, which are each, caused by a different gene mutation. One of the many interesting features of this disease is that symptoms may appear as early as childhood or as late as adulthood. • 13. Tax Treatment of Gambling Loss as in Tschetschot Case Abstract In Tschetschot v. Commissioner, 93 TCM 914 (2007), the tax court ruled that taxpayer s losses from participating in tournament poker were limited to the amount of her winnings. The court held that tournament poker is, despite its differences from other types of poker, essentially a wagering activity and therefore should not be treated differently from other forms of gambling for tax purposes. The court also rejected the taxpayer s equal protection argument to treat tournament poker as sports, on the basis of the policy decisions of the congress to treat business based on wagering activities differently. Commissioner The facts in Tschetschot were quite simple, and there was not any dispute regarding them. It is nevertheless helpful to single out the facts that are more relevant to the issue on hand, which would help in following the court s reasoning in reaching its holdings. Mrs. Tschetschot works as a database project manager, and was also a professional tournament poker player in 2000. She then claimed a net loss from her tournament poker activity as business losses on her Schedule C. The commissioner determined that this deduction related to the tournament poker should be subject to the limitation provided in Code §165(d) as an itemized deduction, to the extent of the Mrs. Tschetschot s winnings. Based on that, the commissioner assessed a deficiency of income tax as well as an accuracy related penalty under Code §6662(a). The tax court ruled in favor of the commissioner, rejecting the petitioner s argument that tournament poker, unlike other types of poker, is not a wagering activity. The court reached its decision by first defining the term wagering using the term s plain, obvious, and rational meaning. Therefore, the court adopted the dictionary meaning of to wager, which is defined as to bet or the act of betting. Based on this, the court concluded that while there are differences between tournament poker and other types of poker, none rise to the level of meaningful, substantive differences that would warrant different tax treatment under the ... The Art of Editing and Film Meaning Essay As one of the most celebrated and best known Soviet directors, Sergei Eisenstein s theoretical writings and practical uses of editing are a crucial part of cinema s development. He viewed the art form of film as a tool with which to inflict certain reactions and emotions to audiences, be it through shock or empathetic understanding. His editing techniques were key elements to achieve these effects, carefully planned out and sought to create conflict in meaning. Art is not a mirror which reflects the historical struggle, but a weapon of that struggle. Brought up without a formal cinematic training, the director started off his career in an LA video store and making connections by talking about his enticing script ideas. After managing to get Natural Born Killers (1994) made by a different director, Oliver Stone, he was disappointed with the final film and decided not to have his style and vision tainted by other filmmakers. This is why Pulp Fiction is exemplary for his unique vision and techniques. As mentioned, Tarantino s narrative trademark is non linearity, as he used it in his first feature films, Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Pulp Fiction, and continues to employ it in his other work. He breaks narrative conventions by avoiding to clearly signpost flashbacks, for instance. Tzioumakis exemplifies the shift in storytelling through a lack of blurred images, intensification of music, framing of a character in a close up to suggest that he or she is remembering or imagining something, and so on . (Tzioumakis, 2006, p. 8) Referring back to Eisenstein, Tarantino s editing choice is a tool for disorienting the viewer, because even though the narrative is set out in the scriptwriting phase, it is the edit that makes these temporal transitions difficult to register. The audience is shown pieces of the narrative like a puzzle, which they have to assemble in order to understand the full plot. Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a certain structure that is to be followed. The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis Banks, 2016). Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently, because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to the same topic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Virginia Woolf Virginia Woolf Moving Beyond a Convoluted Memory of Her Parents Why would I start with Julia Duckworth Stephen to get to Virginia Woolf? One answer is Virginia s often quoted statement that we think back through our mothers if we are women (Woolf, A Room of One s Own). Feminism is rooted not just in a response to patriarchy but also in the history of females and their treatment of each other. Part of feminism is a reevaluation of the value of motherhood. But what does Virginia s mother have to do with Virginia s writing? I chose to look at the problem of inheritance by starting with Julia s first influences on Virginia, particularly her stories for children. I then move on to portraits of mothers in Virginia s novels. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Julia was not only central to her children, husband, and extended family, but a person defined by her effects on others. This can be seen in the portrait of Mrs. Ramsay as mother, committed nurse, gracious hostess, and matchmaker, among other things1 (Gillespie and Steele 22). This made it difficult for her to give any one person, including herself, more than a few minutes of her time. Angels from the Start One could say that the feminism that Virginia will evolve is a rebellion against how the patriarchy represses women (Johnsen). While the patriarchy is an unquestionable active repressor, I put forth that the matriarchy can also repress women, as in the pressure (primarily from one s mother, by example) to be the Angel in the House, forever smoothing things over and giving of oneself. This leads me to ask: did Julia Stephen try to make her daughters into Angels? Julia showed her daughters through the examples of her stories and her behavior that female behavior was meant to be helpful, caring, and moderately subservient. The stories she wrote for her children have female characters that are defined and limited by their tenderness of heart and anxiety to please (Gillespie and Steele 31). One anomaly can be found in the character of Maggie in Cat s Meat, who solves an arithmetic problem that stumps her brother. (31) This reminds me of Rhoda in The Waves sitting alone, held immobile by a math problem while everyone else goes on with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of SPAM created a disconnect between classes along with not allowing much of any social mobility at this time. The five relationships governing the ruler and the subject, father and son, husband and wife, older brother and younger brother, and friend and friend have been in existence from olden days to the present time. The aftermath of this lead to the creation of the National Intelligence Authority, a Central Intelligence Group in 1946; and subsequently enacted into law the National Security Act of 1947 that served as the organizational basis for the US conduct of the Cold War. The 1947 act also established the Central Intelligence Agency who will be responsible for the national intelligence mission (Federation of American Scientists, 1996).
