A Comparison of Poetry Essay
A Comparison of Poetry In this essay two poems will be juxtaposed. One of the poems is called
My parents kept me from children who were rough . This poem was written by Stephen Spender.
Stephen Spender was greatly admired for his work and was knighted in 1983. He lived in the
20th century and died 22 years after W H Auden in 1995 .The second poem chosen is called
Funeral Blues and was written by W H Auden. W H Auden was a greatly respected homosexual
poet who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1907 and died in 1973. W H Auden s full
name was Wystan Hugh Auden. He wrote Funeral Blues in 1936. In the poem My parents kept me

The rhythm in Funeral Blues is a very slow one which emphasises the sadness of the poet
whereas in the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough there is a medium pace
rhythm which accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow
pace. Both My parents kept me from children who were rough and Funeral Blues have four lines
in every verse but the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem My parents kept me
from children who were rough has only three verses whereas Funeral Blues has four. In the
poem My parents kept me from children who were rough all three of the verses are set in the
past tense whereas in Funeral Blues three of the verses are talking about the present and only
one is talking about the past. The verse, which is referring to something in the past, is the one
that talks about the man who died. In the poem My parents kept me from children who were
rough lines similar to I feared more than tigers their muscles like iron conjures up an image in
one s head of large and very muscular boys. An example of the boys abuse and images, which is
stated in the poem, is And who threw world like stones and who wore torn clothes . This line
shows us that the boys would use bad language and would dress very badly. The imagery in
Funeral Blues is one of a heart broken man who is very sad and depressed

Sexual Harassment Issues
Sexual harassment is an ongoing problem in our society and has been swept under the rug in most
sexual harassment cases in the workplace. The problem with sexual harassment, especially in the
workplace, is the fact that victims usually cannot escape the situation from happening more than
once. The victim is often in a position with their company that the victimcannot let authorities know
of the harassment because of financial obligation to their family and themselves through the
company. Sexual harassmentis an issue that, is not only a major issue but an issue that needs to be
stopped. Sexual harassment in the workplace needs to be prevented from happening and we as a
society need to raise awareness for this issue. The sexual harassment epidemic in the workplace
in America is escalating quickly, but what exactly is sexual harassment? Sexual harassment is
defined as unwanted sex related behavior at work that is appraised by the recipient as offensive,
exceeding her resources, or threatening her well being (Barling). However, there is a difference
between sexual harassment in the workplace and workplace romance. Workplace romance is a
risky game to play in the workplace environment. Often in cases of sexual harassment, workplace
romances have taken a turn in the wrong direction and turn into more aggressive relationships.
Sexual harassment does not only happen to women but also to men. However, sexual harassment
cases occur more with women as the victimthan men being

Comparing The Epics And The Epic Heroes
Comparison of the Epics In every epic, there are common themes that present themselves
throughout the story, such as war. The epics Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Mahabharata, share
similar characteristics in terms of their strength, values, and journeys. In each of the epics that will
be discussed, there is the occurrence of fighting for honor and to have a legacy. The epic heroes
follow many of the guidelines that Joseph Campbellhas written in his book Herowith a Thousand
Faces. Joseph Campbell believed that the stages of a hero were to have a call to adventure, he is
introduced in his ordinary world, he is hesitant and may not want to fulfill his mission, the
person is encouraged by someone old and wise, the person is committed to their journey, there
are tests and people to help the hero, the hero faces his last, challenging quest, he potentially
faces death, the hero survives his journey and is rewarded in some way, he has a journey back to
his home and could face more danger, the hero is transformed by his experience, and the hero
brings back treasures. Gilgamesh shows the characteristics of hero according to Joseph Campbell
because he faces many challenging quests in particular his most dangerous is going to the king
and queen of (idk) (where) to find the secret of immortality, Gilgamesh survives his journey back
from (where), Gilgamesh is transformed because he becomes less shellfish, on the journey home
he could have possibly been in danger because of the deadly

It is probably correspondence is extremely essential in our day by day lives. Regular, we speak

Organizational Design Essay
Key Concepts of Organizational Design
If an organization is to remain effective as it changes and grows with its environment, managers
must continuously evaluate the way their organizations are designed: for example, the way work is
divided among people and departments, and the way it controls its human, financial, and physical
resources. Organizational design involves difficult choices about how to control that is, coordinate
organizational tasks and motivate the people who perform them to maximize an organization s
ability to create value (Jones, 2004). Maintaining that competitive edge in the snack food industry
can be challenging. Snacks and goodies are considered one of America s favorite past times. Best

Organizational design can provide quicker decision making as some models help accelerate
information flow and streamline decision making. It can also provide personal growth by creating
opportunities for people to take on different and challenging roles within the same organization.
Any work process in the organization can be in scope for organizational design.
Organizational Structures Organizational structure is definitely a must have in an organization.
Organizational structure is designed to form and develop clear lines of order to control an
organization getting the best use of the organizations resources. According to Mahmud Hasan,
some advantages of organization structure are that is easier to control the resources and they can
be rationed and allocated to different units to use them at their more productive use at a micro
level. Another advantage would be that clearly defined reporting lines make it easy for employees
to know whom to report to while reducing redundancies by eliminating extra or unproductive
processes. Other advantages are to streamline processes by giving them more focus and adoptive
nature, reduce cost because the controlling of various cost control centers are controlled at micro
level. Lastly, another advantage is it will help reduce cost because the controlling of various cost
control centers are collected at micro level (Hasan, 2010).

Should Athletes Be Drug Tested In Schools Essay
Should Athletes be drug tested for school
Most schools have student codes of conduct and/or athletic codes of conduct that state illicit
drugs are not to be used and most include tobacco as a banned substance . The should drug test
them because it would be safe for the school and can protect the kids from any harmful
accidents. The sport the kid is playing could be harmful if he/she is taking drugs or any other
substance. We need to stop the use of drugs in school and in sports. If we do that, then the
community will be safer and the world will be a safer place.
Usually, people in the workforce and professional athletes are subjected to random drug tests. Many
companies or businesses have random drug tests and it throws people off guard when they have
them. I believe that it is the best thing to do when it comes to drug testing. Random drug tests are
good because they can t do anything to prepare for it if they don t know about it. People can
prepare for a drug test if they know it s coming so they do everything they can to get the substance
out of their system. Unless there is definite proof that a high school athlete is engaging in illegal
activities, there is absolutely no reason to violate their human rights . This is wrong because some

Vollmann Poor People
Nelson Mandela once said, Poverty is not natural it s man made. This quote states that a person
can overcome poverty if one has the desire to live a better life. In a novel called Poor People
written by William T. Vollmann, the author travels around different countries and places to learn
about poor people and to get a global perspective view. While interviewing different kinds of
people, Vollmann would ask them one question: why are you poor? Looking at people s answers
Vollmann noticed that some of the people gave quite interesting answers. Vollmann went through a
lot of situations where he just couldn t imagine what life would be if he was ever to live like that.
Another novelthat has a similar povertysituation is called Let The Water Hold Me Down, written
by Michael Spurgeon. Hank, the main character of the novel, experiences a tragic moment in his
life. Losing his wife and daughter while drowning, this tragedy left him feeling like it s all due
to his miscarrying about them. His life becomes full of sorrow, and the only way out it was to
go to Mexico to his friend s place and restart his life over. In a new country of Mexico, this story
takes place. Even though he had money, a house, and friends support, he still experienced lots of
pressure trying to survive in Mexico. Poverty has different meanings in everyone s lives but by
reading these two novels, there are three similarities that can be made about people living in poverty.

Glycolytic Pathway
Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to
adenosine diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one
of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic
systems.
The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to
resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway
is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term
high intensity activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and
sprinting.
The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is
broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is
very little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to
resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. Two
exercises that utilize the glycolytic pathway are powerlifting such as bench press and deadlift.
The aerobic system known as the oxidative pathway, uses oxygen to produce ATP and is the most
complex of the three energy systems. The oxidative pathway uses blood glucose, glycogen ... Show

The Emperor Is Wearing No Clothes, By Mark Henkal
Mark Henkal is the self described National Polygamy Advocate. In his speech The Emperor is
Wearing No Clothes, he argues the case of why Christian polygamy should be accepted. He uses
four main points to get his opinion across: grace law hypocrisy, polygamists in the Bible, the
meaning of adultery and one flesh, and prohibitions of leaders in the Bible. An individual with little
to no Biblical knowledge might find that his argument makes sense. Just listening to the speech,
without any critical thinking involved, might even persuade those with slightly more Biblical
knowledge. Although outwardly he may seem to make solid arguments, there is much more to the
polygamyargument than he brought forth. The first justification for polygamy that he presents is
that it was not banned, but was regulated under the law, therefore causing polygamy to be an
accepted form of lifestyle. The verses given to support this claim are Exodus 21:10, If he marries
another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing, and marital rights, and
Deuteronomy 21:15, if a man has two wives..., but there are issues with how these verses are
being used. The Bible is not addressing the issue of polygamy in these verses. They are being
taken out of context and bent to please the will of one man; the former is under the context of
servants and the latter is about the rights of the firstborn son. Based on this, I would say that this
point invalid and not worth further discussion. The

College Degree In College Essay
A college degree is not necessary to be successful. This sentence is something my family lives by,
neither of my parents graduated from college. Even though they did not graduate from college,
they are still successful and provide me with whatever I want. My brother went to college and
never ended up finishing getting his associates. The trend in my familyis to not get a collegedegree
but still end up successful. I am going to break that trend by getting a college degree and
becoming more successful than them. They are right, you do not need a college degree to be
successful, but getting one can aid you in your success. College degrees will put you in front of
someone else that does not have one while trying to get a job. I am challenging their idea of
college and am going to be more successful than them.

manager at Pontiac Electric Supply Company and she also works at Bernardis 2 and Pontiac Elks

and I can have a great life. My dad attended Parkland Community College for about a year and a
half. While he was at Parkland he was playing basketball and then dropped out because he was

Hart Team America
Ms. Hart and a student on Team America were both assessing a mathematical expression which
consists of dividing decimals: 146.4 Г· 0.32. Bewildered at the difficulty of the problem, they each
evaluated the expression. However, the student had analyzed a differentiated solution. Most
students would directly assume that Ms. Hart, as a teacher, would have the correct resolution. On
the contrary, the studentclaimed she was accurate. Who will stand corrected? In order to precisely
evaluate an expression involving the division of decimals, there are certain steps to ensure success:
If the divisor is not a whole number, move decimal point to the right to make it a whole number
and move decimal point in dividend the same number of places.
Divide as usual.

Hart and the student s work, the miscalculation is pointed out. The student has correctly analyzed
the first step. Conversely, the teacher mistakenly divided 146.4 by 100 instead of multiplication,
placing one of the main components of her expression to be 1.464 incorrect. This affects every step
after, although the operation and method used is correct. Nevertheless, the student may still be
wrong as well.
Continuing the process of evaluating the expression, the next step is to divide as usual. Following
the standard process of dividing whole numbers, the exact quotient received should be 457.5. With
step 3 already done, the final action would be to check the answer. That can be done with the
inverse operation of division, multiplication. 457.5 Г— 0.32 = 146.4. This proves that 457.5 is the
error free, precise quotient.
Evidently supported by a carefully checked run through of the steps needed, the student has
received the honor of evaluating the expression accurately. Ms. Hart had erroneously used the
wrong equation on step 1. Everyone makes mistakes! This depicts how using the right strategy and
checking after each move can lead to conquering the expression and a genius, mathematical

Meaning Of Cockney Rhyming Slang
Language self evident though it may appear, the term can signify an astonishing variety of
interrelated concepts; one may perceive language as a means of communication, while others may
see it as a medium for thought or a catalyst for social relations. Notwithstanding, the following
article shall focus on language, or to be more explicit, its basic components, namely words, as the
carriers of the speaker s emotions. Due to the fact that emotionally laden units, such as
maledictions, constitute an evergreen source of controversy, they tend to be supplanted by
miscellaneous alternative expressions; hence, the following study shall explore perhaps the most
peculiar disguise mechanism, namely CockneyRhyming Slang.

Defining Slang
Before we embark on a detailed study concerning Cockney Rhyming Slang (henceforth CRS),
we shall endeavor to define the relevant superordinate term, namely slang. Innocuous as it may
seem at first sight, the term was initially perceived as a corruption of language, as evidenced by
the preliminary data provided by OED, according to which [slang is] the special vocabulary used
by any set of persons of a low or disreputable character; language of a low and vulgar type. The
following meaning, which apparently originated in the 18th century among organized criminals
(Ayto 2005), was soon extended to still fairly unfavorable sense of a language of a highly colloquial
type, considered as below the level of standard educated speech [...]. Nonetheless, after the mid
eighteenth century, the concept in question has gradually started to shed the pejorative patina
(Mattiello 2008); therefore, currently many or perhaps most lexicographic works provide rather
neutrally hued definitions of slang. As an illustration, let us now

The Love Story Of The Notebook
For this module I chose the movie The Notebook. This movie is about a couple s love story. It
starts by Noah talking about his life and how he feels as if he has lived his life to the fullest with
no regrets. He also then states how he has loved another with all of his heart and how that has
always been enough for him. We then meet Noah s wife, Allie. His wife has dementia and has
forgotten almost everything. Noah takes the time to read Allie the same story every day, which
is their love and life story. As he begins to read the story he starts how they first met which was at
a carnival one night. Noah was persistent in getting Allie to go on a date with him and she was
hesitant at first. See Allie is from a very wealthy and well known family where as Noah is from
the opposite. However, that did not stop Noah. After their first date at the movies it really was
like love at first date. There was instant chemistry between the two and they became inseparable
from then on. With one night in particular Noah took Allie to an old abandon house where he
told her he was going to buy it one day and fix it up for Allie. One thing led to the next and as
they were about to make love, Fin ran in and said that Allies parents were looking for her and
even called the cops. As Allies parents did not approve of her relationship with Noah it ultimately
led to them breaking up right before Allie left for college in New York. Noah wrote to Allie every
day that first year she was gone, but Allies

Example Of Semiotic Connotation
The following semiotic deconstruction analysis will advance through three stages, that being
description, interpretation and evaluation. However prior to this it is important to discuss the fact
that we are now living in an era of an attention economy. In today s age, consumers are
overwhelmed by the paradox of choice so many choices to make, and no easy way to distinguish
among the offerings (Davenport, Harris 2009). Furthermore, since consumers are bombarded with
advert offering its important to avail of whatever attention a brandgets. Thus an attention economy
is an approach of management that treat human attention as scare resources and applies an
economic theory to make use of that attention; hence the ability of the brand to channel... Show

In such respect, a semiotic interpretation would first consist of a description of an image as noted
by Schroeder (2002). In principle, the description of the image would involve studying the aspects
of the ad such as the layout, brand blocks used, imagery, tag line, language and among other traits
can be discussed. Volkswagenwas established in Wolfsburg in 1937, it is a German car
manufacturer, which has uniquely adopted a wide spectrum of target audiences. This spectrum
goes from college students to professionals as well as to customers in the commercial area.
Captivatingly, during the 1960 1970 s much of Volkswagen s advertisingwas known to be very
thought provoking while illustrating the utilitarian aspects of their vehicles, however not going
beyond the emotional meaning associated with owning a Volkswagen vehicle at that time. As you
move through the years Volkswagen has adopted a strategy in which they want to make people not

Technology Impact On Technology
In our world today, things are constantly being created and changed; whether it be laws, fashion,
food, etc., but the one thing that seems to change at a faster rate than the rest is technology.
Whether it be with machines, computers, or medicine, technology is always being improved, and
for most, it s now quite difficult to go a single day without using some type of technologybecause it
s become so widespread in our world. Difficulty to operate without technology is now also
becoming true for businesses. Whether it be local or international, businesses have begun to rely

Today hackers currently have a large amount of American s personal information such as

also taking a huge risk leaving their customer s private information in the hands of technology. A
common reason that businesses are using technology to store all of their files is because it s quick
and easily accessible for them and their customers, but as we ve seen in the Equifax case, putting
one s trust in the internet to keep our information safe in exchange for easier and quicker access

The Friar In The Canterbury Tales
The first characteristic of the Friar is his greed for monetary gain. Superficially it seems that he
is a man who begs for the poor, for his survival, hearing the confessions of sinners but it is
obvious the Friar is quite covetous and materialistic. He absolved sins freely when rewards are
involved. If a man paid coin to the Friar as penance he knew the man s repentance was sincere.
This is an example of the politics of the church in Chaucer s time when religion meant much to
the people, which in turn meant greedy men could act as paid saviors. Although a friar s job was
to beg for the poor, the Friar used his position as a beggar for his own personal gain. He also used

and falseness as well. It is described many times how the Friar kept company with people of
means than the sick, poor and beggars. He begged in the name of the poor but did not associate
with those he supposedly begged for. The guise under which the Friar lived and worked proved
him to be a false man. The insincerity of the Friar is exemplified in his tale as well. His tale is
about a thieving and lecherous summoner; this displays his distrust of the position of a
summoner; most likely because the role of a summoner impedes on his financial gain. This
feeling of distrust was mutual between the Friar and the Summoner, which is explained possibly
by not only greedy clergy men but issues of too many religious positions. Most importantly his
tale shows the Friar as a hypocrite. After he finishes his tale the Friar asks everyone listening to
pray for the summoners of the world to repent their evils but his words are not genuine or heartfelt.
On the surface the Friar may seem like a semi trustworthy man but his traits reveal hypocritical

Case Analysis Of Swisscom Hospitality
Introduction
Swisscom Hospitality is certainly one of the big players on the field of managed service provider
for the hospitality industry. It has developed its dominant position on the market of HSIA (high
Speed Internet Access) services throughout the last 16 years in EMEA and 5 years in the United
States. At its apogee in 2006, Swisscom Hospitality was serving HSIA services to more than 400
000 rooms throughout the different markets and proudly counted amongst its customers, chains
such as Hilton, Marriott or IHG. At the day of today, Swisscom Hospitality only counts 250 000

In Swisscom Hospitality case, innovation is necessary to improve a long time recurring issue,
which penalize the company s results and bring an overall unpleasant working environment. This
process requires the involvement of several business units as well as senior managers. As per Slack

However to bring an effective and seamless change, notable involvement of the senior management

Mary Gaitskill s Tiny Smiling Daddy Essay
The most difficult time in a child s relationship with his/her parents is mainly during its teenage
years. These are times of rebellion, disagreement, strong emotion, psychological changes and
sexual experimentation just to name a few. In Mary Gaitskill s short story Tiny, Smiling Daddy ,
the main theme of how people seek intimacy but don t know how to achieve it (Gaitskill, 289) is
conveyed by the author through the characters, symbolism and setting and imagery. Firstly, the two
main characters in this story, Kitty and Stew, are crucial elements of the story to present its theme.
When Kitty was a child, her and Stew were intimate. She would laugh at her father s jokes about
playing with the hairs of his nose. (Gaitskill, 290) This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It symbolizes how Stew misses his daughter and how he would like to be close to her. Another
symbol in this story is the tiny, smiling daddy which Stew does not agree with. This element
represents the inner parent meaning that it is Kitty s own judgment that helped her get through
difficult times: I would have acknowledged my own needs and created the possibility to connect
with what therapists call В‘the good parent in myself. (Gaitskill, 295) This tiny, smiling daddy
stands for everything that Stew is not: a supportive, accepting and truly loving parent with who
Kitty can have intimacy. Then, there is the relationship Stew had with his own father which can
be viewed as a symbol that reflects on the relationship between Stew and Kitty. Stew admired his
father, yet he rejected him: Its almost godlike stillness and expressionless filled him with
admiration and reassurance, until one day, his father slowly looked up from his cereal, met his
eyes and said, В‘Stop staring at me you little shit. (Gaitskill, 298) Kitty herself experienced similar

The Revolt Of The Maccabees Dynasty
Revolt of the Maccabees and the Rise of the Hasmonean Dynasty (165 163 BC) Alexander the
Great of Macedon died in 323 B.C.E., marking the beginnings of a great political transition both
in the region of Palestine as well as the Macedonian Empire as a whole. While the nation of
Israel experienced foreign dominance during the Persian period (538 322 B.C.E.), Alexander s
death brought a unique struggle for power in the region as his generals (the Diadochi) attempted
to maintain control of the fragmented empire. Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian general who ruled
in Egypt, defeated general Antigonus in 301 B.C.E, and as a result was given control of the
region of Palestine at the agreement of the Diadochi. Nevertheless, conflict arose between
Ptolemy I Soter and Seleucus I Nicator since the latter, a post Alexander ruler of Syria, claimed
the agreement between the Diadochi and Ptolemy regarding Palestine was void. A series of
military conflicts were then waged over control of the Palestine region for the better part of a
century, and yet the interior region was largely left unaffected, leaving Jerusalem to thrive both
financially and politically under Ptolemaic rule. The Seleucid king, Antiochus III the Great, ended
the Seleucid Ptolemy conflict in 219 B.C.E., gaining decisive control of the region. Unfortunately
for the Jews, Antiochus III was defeated by the Romans at Magnesia in 190 B.C.E., and as a result,
the Seleucids received a heavy taxation at the hands of the Romans.

Aid For The United States
Aid is defined as a voluntary transfer of resources from one government to another independent
government, but to what extent should a country help. It is known that aid can be in the form of
debt, food, or cash. Often in today s world population many people agree or disagree with
helping countries receive aid. The ones who don t agree think that by giving a country aid, it
makes them lazier and gives them no incentive. It also creates a corrupt government. But to the
ones who do agree they think that by giving aid it helps a country in becoming stable more
democratic. But with the amount given to these countries year after year, you sometimes begin to
question government funding. How do most political officials decide which country should
receive aid, when each country is different. The United States for example has used aid as a
political tool to keep political interest in certain countries, but has it been effective. The article
who gives foreign aid to whom and why? written by Alberto Alesina and David Dollar shows five
major donor countries. Both authors for example state that the United States gives aid based on
political interest specifically to the Middle East, the article also states that Benefits of foreign aid
have recently been under severe scrutiny. Several observers argue that a large portion of foreign aid
flow from developed to developing countries is wasted and increases unproductive public
consumption. Poor institutional development, corruption,

baseball spins in its flight through the air, pressure variations form on it and the Magnus effect

The Black Cat, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a story about a man whose love for animals is overcome by
an extreme hatred toward the creatures. What goes around comes around is a saying that would

life. They both love animals and have lots of them. Then all of a sudden he becomes an
alcoholic and begins mistreating his animals and his wife. He cuts his cat s eye out with a knife
and kills the cat soon after. The following day his house burns down. The only wall left standing is
in the image of a gigantic cat. They now have to live in poverty. One night, while in a drunken
stupor, he
3 finds a stray cat and brings it home. The next morning he realizes that the cat resembles Pluto,
the dead cat, in every way except for the large white patch on the new cat s chest. It even has the
same eye missing. The white spot that has once distinguished the new cat from Pluto changes
shape and begins to resemble a noose. He then kills his wife when she stops him from killing the
cat. When the police came, the cat s moan reveals his wife s body that is concealed behind a
brick wall. He then realizes that he has accidentally walled the cat up with his wife, which is the
reason he is unable to find the animal to kill it.

Nordic Countries Built on a Culture of Equality and...
The notion of consensual politics in Nordic countries is built on a culture of equality and the
importance of persistently trustworthy behaviour which are based on a common set of values
(Delhey and Newton, 2004). These Nordic countries include Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland
and Denmark. The following values, institutional and political characteristics are typically
highlighted when making reference to these countries: egalitarianism by means of universal and
generous social insurance systems, solidarity, public welfare service systems, proactive labour
market and finally agreed industrial policies which maintain a level of consensus within Nordic
politics (Strandberg, 2006). These characteristics have been one of the main reasons for the
development of their comprehensive welfare provisions, which creates a sense of solidarity
among these countries (Kuhnle, 1991: Peterson, 1994 cited in Lee Miles, 1996). This paper will
start by assessing and defining the existence of consensual Nordic politics today by discussing how
it had been in the past, and then looking at the future of consensual politics in Nordic countries.

Music That Made The Movement
Music that Made the Movement
The United States is a country which was formed by the hard work of the First Nations people, the
British, and African Americans. Unfortunately, blacks were subjected to slavery. In the 1900 s
blacks were becoming more discontented, thus began the emergence of the civil rights movement.
Along with rallies and peaceful protests, music played a very important role in bringing change to a
society where white supremacy reigned. In addition to their efforts, jazz and blues artists also
contributed to the building of a strong America.

bodies of Thomas and Abram, a voice denied James involvement in the crime. He avoided his own
hanging and was brought back to prison.
The photographs of the two bodies hanging from the tree inspired Abel Meeropol, a teacher, to
write the poem and song Strange Fruit . In 1939, jazz singer Billie Holiday adapted the song into her
set list. With lyrics such as:
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
It gives the horrific imagery of the bodies hanging from the trees and glimpse of the life in
picturesque South. Holiday s performance of the song soon became a hallmark for the early civil
rights movements as she often became overcome with emotions as she performed the song each
night. Strange Fruit was the first significant protest in words and music, the first unmuted cry
against racism and is what many describe as the beginning of the civil rights movement.

Reading Note On Reading Comprehension
Reading Fluency: Refers to the ability to decode words accurately, effortlessly, using correct
volume, phrasing and appropriate intonation at a reasonably rapid rate. There are three main
components of fluency including speed, accuracy and prosody, which is using expression when
reading. Since the reader is readingautomatically he is able to focus on the comprehension of text.
Fluency refers to the ability to maintain accurate readingof connected text at a conversational rate
with appropriate prosody. The reader is not easily distracted and reads in an effortless flowing
manner.
Automaticity: Refers to the ability to read words automatically with little cognitive effort. Slow
word recognition distracts the reader from building comprehension of the text. If reading is
automatic, reading comprehension is possible although not guaranteed. Students with language
delays frequently have automatic word recognition but have difficulty with comprehension.
Reading Rate: Reading rate is the fluent identification of individual words and the speed and
fluidity that a reader moves through connected text. It is usually calculated by either the number of
words read correctly per minute or the length of time it takes for a reader to complete a passage.
Prosody: is a linguistic term that refers to the rhythm and tonal aspects of speech; the musicality of
language. It includes variations in intonation, syllable prominence, and duration. Applying prosody

RenГ© Descartes Meditations Essay
RenГ© Descartes Meditations
RenГ© Descartes argument that he does not know his piece of wax through his senses is rather
straightforward. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture,
temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the
wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless,
Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first
away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its
appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Because the
wax is still the same wax even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes
indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations
because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The
imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.)
Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions
of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability.
Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination
we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination.
The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended,
flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic,
supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of
the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations,
Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking
thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing.
These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm,
deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine.

Essay On Hoshin Kanri
1Origins of the Hoshin Kanri model
To start with, it is highly obvious to describe the origins of how, where and when this management
model was established.
Hoshin Kanri as the name originally comes from Japan. Etymology of the name gives the following
origins of it Hoshin = methodology for setting strategic direction and Kanri = administration or
management . Therefore, it may be said that Hoshin Kanri translates into management of the
methodology for setting strategic direction. (mcts.com, 02.02.16).
Historically, the Hoshin Kanri policy was developed in Japan after World War II. Hoshin Kanri

Everyday, my beautiful, young maids and I awaited the arrival of a man or woman lost at sea. For

False Facts About False Beliefs
Question 1: When something cannot be confirmed or is false, and is considered to be negative
proof, this is called The Socratic Method. False beliefs can be eliminated using this particular
method. The form of an argument is based on the purpose of a proposed hypothesis, then to see if
the expected implications materialize. If the hypothesis does not appear to materialize, it is
considered wrong. Therefore, if the hypothesis were true, the expected implications would not have
followed.
A quote from Socrates states: If I could only find a man wiser than myself then I might go to the
god with a refutation in my hand. Socrates found that he was more knowledgeable then these men
and never did he presume to be more knowledgeable than he was. He recognized that he was more
knowledgeable but realized the point when he did not know something. The hypothesis would be
for him to find someone more knowledgeable than himself and when this did not materialize, the
hypothesis would have to be discarded.
Throughout various Socratic works, this theme is re occurring. As oppose to just satisfying ones
immediate desires, one must be virtuous. According to the will of the gods, life, which is well
lived, prosperous and long, is not necessarily a good life.
Simply he using this concept towards his prosecution manifests the Socratic Method into Plato s
dialogue, the Euthyphro. He used this concept towards ethical matters. It was first suggested
throughout the Euthyphro that

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
In the Anglo Saxon epic poems The Wife s Lament, The Wanderer, and The Seafarer, the authors
make their poetry much more interesting and enjoyable by inserting literary devices that add
meaning and cohesiveness to each line. Each poem contains multiple literary devices such as
kennings, caesuras, and imagery. These tools work together in order to add mood and transparency
to the poetry.
The Wife s Lament, translated by Ann Standford, uses numerous literary devices to convey the
pain and emotion of an exiled wife. The author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare the cave

hail would fall, / The coldest seeds (Raffel 33). This kenning serves to provide an alternate view
and allude to the freezing weather conditions the narrator faces. Next, the author of The Seafarer
uses repetition with the word so in lines 40 41 and no in lines 44 45. This repetition exaggerates
the seafarer s misery by making it seem like he has wasted opportunity and failed to acquire

My Spiritual Autobiography
My Spiritual Autobiography
How did your relationship with God begin (when and where)?
It started off slow and by slow I mean really slow. My father was a deacon and my mother was
the Sunday school teacher for the kids and adults, My Spirituality was something I don t think
much about as a kid. I was more in to Power Ranger and Ninja Turtle that anything else. My mom
and dad tried to make god a part of my life but it don t work. I was just a little kid and all I want
was to play.
That was my spiritual life until the day my dad dead. It was a just other day and my dad was in
his favorite chair and then the next thing I know he hit the floor. The doctor said that it was a
massive heart attack but to a 9 year old my dad is gone because god ... Show more content on

What factors led to your initial encounter with God? There was many factor that led to my initial
encounter with god one was my father death. Other was the questions of a teenage looking for
his place in the world and other factor was the hate I had toward god. The death of my father
was hard for me for so many years. All the question I want to ask him all the thing I want to do
with him I never got a change to do. This made me want to know why god would take a father
form his son whom look up to him. My hate toward god was one factor to because the more I
hated him the more I would find myself look in the word trying to find out why god would take
my father. The most important factor I think was the fact that I was a teenage and was feeling
like I don t belong to anything. I was good at sport and have a good time at that. I know there
was more to me than just sports. I was quiet and shy and look like I was mad at the world all the
time but I know that was more to me.
How did your family of origin affect your relationship with God? My family origin had God all in
it. I don t know this fact for a long time. I know my mom and my dad spiritual life because I saw
it firsthand. I don t know my grandparent spiritual life until much later in my life. My family was
a group of people that rejected new ideas and different spiritual system. I have a family member
that was Muslim. The old people in my family really

The Heroic Quest In Vogler s Fifth Business
Fifth Business is a stellar example of a novel that follows the heroic quest pattern, and is easily
examined through an archetypal lens of a hero s quest. To begin, almost every heroic story
begins with some background on the character, to help the audience understand and relate to
them. I have noticed this in all the movies I ve seen and books I ve read, if the storyline is a
typical one of heroism . Although there is a greater example of the heroic arc later on in the story,
Dunstable s participation in World War I also serves as a worthy, if short lived, instance of the
heroic quest. Vogler writes that another important step in the hero s journey to enlightenment is
crossing the threshold , typically occurring at, the end of Act One .... Show more content on

Dunstable is faced with trials and enemies in France, having to survive and kill others, similar to
how the sixth stage of the heroic quest is described (Vogler). He is literally rewarded with the
Victoria Cross and returns with his elixir , both of which are described by Vogler as crucial stages
in the Hero s journey. Fifth Business also includes many examples of Jungian archetypes, which
are also found in typical heroic stories. Dunstable represents the archetypal self in many ways. The
self does not imply only the main character, but also all the discoveries they make towards
becoming a more developed person (Jung s). He matures as a character, becomes more in touch
with his spirituality, and begins to understand how the world works. In this way, he becomes more
like himself through enlightenment. While at home and in France, Dunstable encounters several
instances of the shadow , another key Jungian archetype. The shadow is mysterious and evil, often
representing a reflection of the Hero s self

  • 2. A Comparison of Poetry Essay A Comparison of Poetry In this essay two poems will be juxtaposed. One of the poems is called My parents kept me from children who were rough . This poem was written by Stephen Spender. Stephen Spender was greatly admired for his work and was knighted in 1983. He lived in the 20th century and died 22 years after W H Auden in 1995 .The second poem chosen is called Funeral Blues and was written by W H Auden. W H Auden was a greatly respected homosexual poet who lived in the 20th century. He was born in 1907 and died in 1973. W H Auden s full name was Wystan Hugh Auden. He wrote Funeral Blues in 1936. The rhythm in Funeral Blues is a very slow one which emphasises the sadness of the poet whereas in the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough there is a medium pace rhythm which accelerates gradually during the poem and then slows down at the end to a slow pace. Both My parents kept me from children who were rough and Funeral Blues have four lines in every verse but the amount of verses in each poem differ since the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough has only three verses whereas Funeral Blues has four. In the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough all three of the verses are set in the past tense whereas in Funeral Blues three of the verses are talking about the present and only one is talking about the past. The verse, which is referring to something in the past, is the one that talks about the man who died. In the poem My parents kept me from children who were rough lines similar to I feared more than tigers their muscles like iron conjures up an image in one s head of large and very muscular boys. An example of the boys abuse and images, which is stated in the poem, is And who threw world like stones and who wore torn clothes . This line shows us that the boys would use bad language and would dress very badly. The imagery in Funeral Blues is one of a heart broken man who is very sad and depressed ... Sexual harassmentis an issue that, is not only a major issue but an issue that needs to be stopped. Sexual harassment in the workplace needs to be prevented from happening and we as a society need to raise awareness for this issue. The sexual harassment epidemic in the workplace in America is escalating quickly, but what exactly is sexual harassment? To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one of the three energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic systems. The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to resynthesize ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. • 11. The Emperor Is Wearing No Clothes, By Mark Henkal Mark Henkal is the self described National Polygamy Advocate. In his speech The Emperor is Wearing No Clothes, he argues the case of why Christian polygamy should be accepted. He uses four main points to get his opinion across: grace law hypocrisy, polygamists in the Bible, the meaning of adultery and one flesh, and prohibitions of leaders in the Bible. An individual with little to no Biblical knowledge might find that his argument makes sense. Just listening to the speech, without any critical thinking involved, might even persuade those with slightly more Biblical knowledge. Although outwardly he may seem to make solid arguments, there is much more to the polygamyargument than he brought forth. The first justification for polygamy that he presents is that it was not banned, but was regulated under the law, therefore causing polygamy to be an accepted form of lifestyle. The verses given to support this claim are Exodus 21:10, If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing, and marital rights, and Deuteronomy 21:15, if a man has two wives..., but there are issues with how these verses are being used. The Bible is not addressing the issue of polygamy in these verses. They are being taken out of context and bent to please the will of one man; the former is under the context of servants and the latter is about the rights of the firstborn son. Based on this, I would say that this point invalid and not worth further discussion. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the nation of Israel experienced foreign dominance during the Persian period (538 322 B.C.E.), Alexander s death brought a unique struggle for power in the region as his generals (the Diadochi) attempted to maintain control of the fragmented empire. Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian general who ruled in Egypt, defeated general Antigonus in 301 B.C.E, and as a result was given control of the region of Palestine at the agreement of the Diadochi. Nevertheless, conflict arose between Ptolemy I Soter and Seleucus I Nicator since the latter, a post Alexander ruler of Syria, claimed the agreement between the Diadochi and Ptolemy regarding Palestine was void. A series of military conflicts were then waged over control of the Palestine region for the better part of a century, and yet the interior region was largely left unaffected, leaving Jerusalem to thrive both financially and politically under Ptolemaic rule. It is known that aid can be in the form of debt, food, or cash. Often in today s world population many people agree or disagree with helping countries receive aid. The notion of consensual politics in Nordic countries is built on a culture of equality and the importance of persistently trustworthy behaviour which are based on a common set of values (Delhey and Newton, 2004). These Nordic countries include Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark. The following values, institutional and political characteristics are typically highlighted when making reference to these countries: egalitarianism by means of universal and generous social insurance systems, solidarity, public welfare service systems, proactive labour market and finally agreed industrial policies which maintain a level of consensus within Nordic politics (Strandberg, 2006). These characteristics have been one of the main reasons for the development of their comprehensive welfare provisions, which creates a sense of solidarity among these countries (Kuhnle, 1991: Peterson, 1994 cited in Lee Miles, 1996). Along with rallies and peaceful protests, music played a very important role in bringing change to a society where white supremacy reigned. He avoided his own hanging and was brought back to prison. The photographs of the two bodies hanging from the tree inspired Abel Meeropol, a teacher, to write the poem and song Strange Fruit . In 1939, jazz singer Billie Holiday adapted the song into her set list. It gives the horrific imagery of the bodies hanging from the trees and glimpse of the life in picturesque South. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture, temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless, Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.) Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability. Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination. The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended, flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic, supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations, Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing. These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm, deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. False Facts About False Beliefs Question 1: When something cannot be confirmed or is false, and is considered to be negative proof, this is called The Socratic Method. False beliefs can be eliminated using this particular method. The form of an argument is based on the purpose of a proposed hypothesis, then to see if the expected implications materialize. If the hypothesis does not appear to materialize, it is considered wrong. Therefore, if the hypothesis were true, the expected implications would not have followed. A quote from Socrates states: If I could only find a man wiser than myself then I might go to the god with a refutation in my hand. Socrates found that he was more knowledgeable then these men and never did he presume to be more knowledgeable than he was. He recognized that he was more knowledgeable but realized the point when he did not know something. The hypothesis would be for him to find someone more knowledgeable than himself and when this did not materialize, the hypothesis would have to be discarded. Throughout various Socratic works, this theme is re occurring. As oppose to just satisfying ones immediate desires, one must be virtuous.
