Juvenile Homicide Can Be Prevented Essay
Introduction For every 12 homicides committed in the United States 1 of them involves a
juvenile offender (Howard N. Snyder, Juvenile Offenders and Victims, 2006). Although most
American don t realize it, juvenile homicide is a problem in the United States that needs to be
fixed. Even though statistics show that the homicide rate done by juveniles is at its lowest rate
since the early 1980 s it is still a problem. Juvenile homicide has lowered in the recent years, but
the fact that it still happens is chilling to most Americans. Most Americans believe that juveniles
who show early signs of deviant acts are not a big deal, however if we try and help those juveniles,
we can possibly stop them from committing homicidal acts when they get... Show more content on

In the recent years many criminologists have used three different demographics used to describe
juvenile homicide offenders. Those are: juvenile gang members, between 15 17 years in age, and
mostly males (Directorate, 2002).
They are often gang members; when gangs recruit members to join their gang they will often
target the young, because they can mold them to believe that the gang is the main thing in their
life. If they get in the gang they are more likely to begin to carry guns, and deal drugs compared
to juveniles who are not gang members. In data gathered from interviews of arrested juveniles in
the Drug Use Forecasting (DUF) study, The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention states that juvenile gang members are reasonably more likely to carry a gun on a day
to day basis compared to the juveniles which are not involved in gangs (31% percent compared to
20%) (James C. Howell, 1999). With saying that, James C. Howell, and Scott R. Decker found that
the juvenile homicide problem in St. Louis was mainly largely a gun homicide problem (James C.
Howell, 1999).
The average age of a juvenile homicide offender is in their upper teens. According to The Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention from 2006 and 2008, 90% of the juvenile homicide
offenders were 15 17 years old, compared to only 10% were 6 14 years old. High School

Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory
The chosen learner is Jake s mother, Jennifer. Her cognitive developmental level, according to
Piaget, is formal operations (Hemmelgarn, 2011). Accordingly, she has most likely advanced from
using logical reasoning with concrete examples (concrete operations) to abstract thinking. The
impact this might have on her learningis that she should be encouraged to be self directed and
autonomous as she educates herself about her son s diabetes. A review of the information obtained
can e reviewed and expanded upon with the educator. At this developmental stage, she is internally
motivated and may rely on previous experiences (Bastable, 2014). In conversations, the educator
should inquire as to her thoughts and feelings and offer guidance as needed. It will be important
for the educator to give Jennifer direction and support as she begins this process of learning about
her son s disease.
An appropriate theory for organizing Jennifer s learning would be Malcolm Knowles Adult
Learning Theory. The rationale that Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory would be
appropriate for Jennifer is that the four principles of adult learning identified by Knowles are
congruent with the life situation she is now faced (Pappas, 2013). As an adult and a mother of a
child diagnosed with diabetes, she needs to be involved in the planning of her learning to make it
pertinent and meaning to her; her previous life and learning experiences need to be recognized; she
will be most interested in

Hitchcock s Manipulation of the Audience s Point of View...
Hitchcock s Manipulation of the Audience s Point of View in the Shower Scene in Psycho
Hitchcock has a unique style when it comes to films and manipulation of the audience. He likes to
give the audience several types of view that in turn give us an incite into the characters feelings and
emotions. He likes to change the lighting, camera angle and mise en scene to manipulate he viewer
s point of view. He is a talented director with unique ability to twist the audience s opinions and play
on emotions with the greatest of ease.
In the shower scene in Psycho, The first shot he chooses to give us is of a voyeuristic one. He show

The camera keeps a distance from Norman even when Norman reaches the house. As he moves
to sit at the dining room table, the camera is positioned at the front door so there is the space of
the corridor between the audience and Norman. This manipulates the audience making us feel
sorry for him and also the fact his facial expression makes him seem very lonely and distant. In
almost al of the scenes we see with Norman his face is in the shadows and this scene is no
exception all the while we see normal he is surrounded by a dark gloom that makes him seem
almost inhuman.
We then cut back to Marion turning on the shower in the motel room. The next shot is of the
showerhead with a jet of water spraying into the bath. Marion takes off her robe and gets into the
shower. We only see Marion in the shower from the collarbone upwards ad it would be pushing
TV too far if they were to show anymore. It leaves the audience with a feeling of curiosity. The
slight glimpse of skin lets the audience s imagination put the rest of the picture together. The
camera at this point is pointing downwards on Marion. This makes the audience feel more
dominant towards the actress. It also connotes Marion to be vulnerable and submissive. When we

Run-Time Array Bound Checking Essay
A Review of Run Time Array Bound Checking Techniques Shaan Shetty School of Electrical and
Computer Engineering Cornell University, Ithaca NY srs383@cornell.edu ABSTRACT C has
been the most popular programming language for the last several decades due to its simplicity
and superior performance. Due to this reason, most legacy software is in C. But in recent times,
several breaches in security and reliability have been found to occur due to lack of memory safety
of the C programming language. Memory corruption bugs in programs can breach security, and
faults in kernel extensions can bring down the entire operating system. Modern languages such as
C# and Java enforce memory safety and hence prevent these security vulnerabilities.... Show more

Austin, Scott E. Breach, and Gurindar S. Sohi [1]. The idea here is to augment the pointer
representation in memory with the bounds of the pointer s target. Spatial safety is enforced by
checking these bounds whenever a pointer is dereferenced. These fat pointers consist of the
following parameters, value: The value of the safe pointer; it may contain any expressible
address., base and size: The base address of the referent and its size in bytes, storageClass: The
storage class of the allocation, either Heap, Local, or Global., capability: When dynamic
variables are created, either through explicit storage allocation (e.g., calls to malloc()) or
through procedure invocations (i.e., a procedure call creates the local variables in the stack
frame of the procedure), a unique capability is issued to that storage allocation. The value
attribute is the only safe pointer member that can be manipulated by the program source; all
other members are inaccessible. base and size are the spatial attributes. storageClass and
capability are the temporal attributes. 1.2CCured CCured is a program transformation system that
adds memory safety guarantees to C programs. It was proposed by George C. Necula, Jeremy
Condit, Matthew Harren, Scott Mcpeak, and Westley Weimer[2]. This approach classifies pointers
as WILD, SEQ and SAFE depending on their usage modes. Pointers which require null check

Bill Of Right At The International Level
Bill of rights
The idea of a bill of right at the international level was conceived at the time of framing the charter
of the U.N.at the San Francisco conference in 1945, at which the organization was established.
President Truman of the US in his closing speech to the conference stated that under the charter
we have good reason to expect the framing of an international bill of rights, acceptable to all the
nations involved. That bill of rights will be as much part of international life as our own bill of
rights is a part of our constitution. (1) International bill of human rights consists of the
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (UDHR), the international covenant on civil
and political rights along with its protocol and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also emphasized the need for international protection of human rights. The conscience of human
beings worldwide was shocked by Mussolini s fascist government of Italy, the Spanish civil war
and the Franco regime. The most significant formulation of this vision of a new international legal
order was the message to the US congress, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1941 in
which he referred to the four freedoms : freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship,
freedom from want and freedom from fear which were among the foundations upon which planning
for the united nation was started. In 1945 at the San Francisco Conference, where the UN Charter
was finally drafted, several actors contributed to the greater emphasis on human rights. Although the
suggestion of creating a commission on human rights was controversial among the great powers,
the US finally achieved its adoption. Thus, a commission on human rights was the only one
explicitly mentioned in the UN charter, and consequently, the human rights issue had got a flying
start within the United Nations. United nation was formally established on 24th October
1945.Human rights issue were assigned to the economic and social council (ECOSOC), at the first
session of which the nuclear commission on human rights was set up. This commission met in
April/May 1946 and made recommendation on composition and terms of reference. These matters
were finally decided by the ECOSOC s second session, in which full

Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay
Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses
of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool
under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest
Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources
serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population
that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons;
this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the
resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing
solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway.
Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences
that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in
decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific
research, collaborative management, and marketing solution.
The focus of this paper is on Public Lands Management, the attention will be given to the challenges
and opportunities that lie within. Therefore, this section will concentrate on the collaborative
management tool. It will describe the pro s and con s in environmental policy making Davis

The Appalachian Trail Analysis
Bryson s main argument throughout the novel is that Americans yearn for the days of old,
represented through the Appalachian Trail, and one way he proves this is with his personal
encounters on the Appalachian Trail itself. For a trail as long and arduous as the Appalachian
Trail, it would be assumed that only serious and dedicated hikers would even consider hikingthe
trip. However, as Bryson demonstrates, this is not the case. Often times, ordinary American
citizens who may have never even hiked before decide to hike the trail. For this, it is not
necessary to look any further than the author and his partner Katz. Neither of them is
particularly fit and it Katz s case, well prepared mentally. Bryson even admits this when he states
that he ...was hopelessly out of shape... (Bryson 35) proving they were not avid hikers.
Throughout their hike, they also ran into a plethora of average citizens, and is one case they
...found a Boy Scout troop... (Bryson 147) that been hiking the woods. One day, after running
into a crowded shelter, Bryson noted that it was spring break at nearby colleges and ...scores of
young people all had the idea to come hiking... (Bryson 99). In all these cases, none of the people
hiking on the trail are actually athletic avid hikers, rather they are standard average citizens. Why
would average citizens decide to hike the Appalachian Trail? Bryson believes that the reason for
this is for people wanting to experience the beauty and simplicity of being

Taking a Look at Australian Courtrooms
Australian courtrooms are highly ritualised spaces where various long serving customs and
traditions are strictly followed in order to constitute events of power, and also featured in the
relative power relations. As was evident by the local courtrooms visited within The Downing
Centre, the architecture, language, courtroomactors and spatial organisation demonstrate the
numerous levels of power, of which are present. This usage of power is evident as visible through
the relationships between the courtroom actors, particularly those between the judgeor magistrate,
the witnesses and lastly, the lawyers. These relations significantly highlight the disparity of power
between these individuals. Simultaneously, the courtroom architecture of which is present also
signals and represents the different levels of power during court proceedings. In addition, the use of
legal jargon in one s favour is also a worthy indicator of attaining this much sought after power
aforementioned.
Within a courtroom, power relations are revealed at their greatest extent, in the instances of the
interaction between the different courtroom actors. During the observation of a particular criminal
case, it became clear to myself that the chain of power in a courtroom features the judge or
magistrate at the top, followed by the lawyer (or defendant if they are representing themselves),
with the witnesses and defendants at the bottom. This form of power distribution further
exemplifies the ritualistic

Long Walk Home Sociology
Sociology Midterm Video Analysis
1. Summary: The film I chose for this analysis is The Long Walk Home, directed by Richard
Pearce. This film is about Odessa, an African American maid in the Thompson family s
household in Montgomery, Alabama in the 1950s. On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refused to
obey bus driver James F. Blake s order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white
passenger, after the white section was filled. Ms. Parks was arrested and there followed the
Montgomery Bus Boycott when the entire African American population refused to ride any of the
city buses. Odessa supports the bus boycott and starts walking to work. Miriam Thompson finds
herself in the midst of the civil rights revolution when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In another event, some racist white boys attack and hit Odessa s daughter and son for having
darker skin and being idiot coons. This is one of many examples of racism being a factor. The
ultimate clash of the subordinate (whites) and insubordinate (African Americans) groups comes at
end of the film with the mob seen at the carpool lot. This shows racism, discrimination and
stereotyping all in one. It is amazing to me to see both how far and how little we have come as a
society.

The Radical Groups Of Thinkers
Throughout the recent centuries, biologists, psychologist, and sociologists have been franticly
researching a single question, which if solved, can help us decode our every behavior and
decision. Why exactly are we the people we are today? This question has sparked many passionate
debates, one of them being; Nature (Genetics, biological traits,) versus Nurture (Environmental
effects, learning behavior). There are two radical groups of thinkers in which strictly oppose each
other, Nativists and Empiricist and with a common interest in mind, their perspective of how a
being develops behaviorally and cognitively differ drastically with very few to none similarities.
This theory provides the most insight to the mystery that is ourselves.... Show more content on

On the other hand, we have not the slightest proof that behavioral traits are passed down through
genetics, which leads us to believe that our next best answer would consist of environmental
stimuli influencing our development of the mind. An example of an environmental stimuli
would be social interaction, in which we all show signs of change from our fetal stages to the
day we die. During this time span of time we form our own unique individuality and behavior.
There are many different perspectives of psychology in which psychologists try to explain the
reasoning behind humanistic behavior and thinking. There are two extremist groups of
psychologists that strictly oppose each other when it comes to the Nature vs. Nurture theory.
Nativists, psychologists who adopt strong hereditary reasoning or Nature theory, believe
humans are a product of evolution and our inner and external traits as well as our behavior are
due to our very complex genetic form. The Nativists believe our individuality is a result of the
mixed genetic code, which we get from both of our parents. This code is solely different from
any other being in the world. Nativists strongly believe every reaction we have and behavior we
exhibit is part of our genetic code, which still remains a mystery today. These thoughts are so
radical that after decades of research and experimentation, it is still strongly believed that our
genetic code is the proper

Determinism Vs Free Will
Throughout society, one would be hard pressed to find an individual that did not believe in the
concept of freedom. Free will has become a value so ingrained in civilization that most trust in it
implicitly without question and the idea of being free is often romanticized in literature, politics,
religion, and media...However, there is a juxtaposing viewpoint that is also widely recognized.
Determinismis generally accepted as the opposite of free willin that individuals are not free agents
in their own life and decisions and behavior is already planned out for them. Two paths that
generally cannot mutually exist in the world; which one is right? Upon examining the research, the
vote seems to fall in favor of free will.

5). Essentially, if determinism exists, humans have no freedom of choice in their life and all
actions of behavior are already decided for them and can be predicted. For example, in the case
of determinism, it could be said that a child born into a family of violent parents will
undoubtedly grow up to be violent as well due to observation and genetics (McLeod, 2013).
However, this argument falls short because while it may be true that a child with abusive or
violent parents is much more likely to grow up and act in the same manner for hereditary or
child rearing reasons, that child still has the option to choose not to travel down the path and
seek help. Eric Fromm, a noted Neo Freudian, states that all of us have the potential to control our
own lives but that many of us are too afraid to do so [and] as a result we give up our freedom and
allow our lives to be governed by circumstance, other people, political ideology or irrational
feelings (McLeod, 2013, para. 21)
Nevertheless, just because someone stays in their same situation and allows themselves to fall
prey to circumstance, does not mean that determinism is readily inescapable since the choice to
make a change in one s life is still there even if the choice is to not act (McLeod, 2013).

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with
Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants
face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being
implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx
of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet
others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come
to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies
will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims?
While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are
migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh
(Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of
unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue
that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the
populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national
identity which some

2000 Word Essay on Being a Team Leader
Non Commissioned officers are a vital part of the United States Army which is why they are
often referred to as the back bone of the Army . Non Commissioned officers play several key
roles in the army, everywhere from the lowest Sergeant or Corporal as a team leader to the First
Sergeant working as advisory and counter part to a Captain in charge of a Company, to a Command
SergeantMajor, responsible for anything fro a battalion to an entire post. Regardless of which
position a non commissioned offer finds themselves in their responsibilities inherent to that role are

Making the right choice and acting on it when faced with an ethical question can be difficult.
Sometimes, it means standing your ground and telling your supervisor you think their wrong. If
you think an order is illegal, first be sure that you understand both the details of the order and its
original intent.
With all these things in consideration it is clear that being a non commissioned officer is a job that
holds absolute importance in the army. In a field environment the job of a non commissioned
officer is to lead their soldiers into combat and issue orders commanding their team, squad or
platoon. A team leader in specific is tasked with possibly the most difficult job in the army. They
deal with their small group of four or five soldiers but in the most direct hands on approach,
more so than any other non commissioned officer job in the Army. Although it is the most
junior position as a non commission officer it holds the most difficult task which does a lot to
break in a new non commissioned officer. If a team leader fails to do his job its will usually hold
the biggest consequences. If a team leader fails his soldiers in a combat situation soldiers can be
wounded or killed. Although this is the most extreme outcome a team leader must work hard to
learn his position and embrace his duties as quickly and responsibly as possible. Being a team
leader in a garrison environment is also very difficult but also a very good

Changes happening to your body in week 25
Your uterus has reached the size of a football and your pregnant belly is becoming rounder. Here is
an overview of the physical changes that happen to you during week 25:
Do you notice that you are becoming clumsy in your physical movements? Do not fret over it.
Clumsiness of movements is a part of the second and third trimesters. You are losing your balance
because of the growing life you carry within you.
If you re experiencing pelvic girdle pain, it is due to Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD).
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction is caused by stretchy ligaments in your pelvic area.
The increased blood volume pressurises your blood vessels and results in varicose veins. Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome, leg cramps, feet swelling and bleeding gums are likely to continue in week 25
of your pregnancy.
Because normal daily hair loss is suppressed by pregnancy hormones, you may notice that your hair

The Education System Of Ethiopia
Pastoralist Education in Ethiopia Currently:
For several years, donors have been implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in Ethiopia
as a way to supplement the formal primary education system in the country. Currently the country
faces a number of challenges in regards to their formal primary school system including lack of
infrastructure, lack of teachers and economical constraints. Many regions in Ethiopia are hard to
reach and the provision of formal education is lacking. To supplement this lack of formal primary
schools, donors, together with governments have implemented Alternative Basic Education
Center s. These centers are set up differently than formal school as it covers the curriculum of
lower primary school, which is traditionally 4 years, and fits it all into 3 years. Upon completion
of these 3 years, it is expected that students will be prepared to move into upper primary school
(grades 5 8). This set up alleviates the problem of a lack of primary schools, and by completing the
curriculum in 3 years, it allows those children who started late to catch up. (CARE Interview)
Save the Children Denmark s Alternative Basic Education Project was implemented in the Amhara
Region of Ethiopia. While this is not a pastoralist region, it provided Save the Children and the
Ethiopian government many insights to non formal education models and many organizations
began implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in the Afar and Somali regions

Stetooden (2009) reveals that it is possibly Eric Carle s childhood that has provoked the
sensational books illustrated and written by him. Carle s family left New York after living there
six years to return to his parents home of Germany. It was in Germany where Carle s father was
drafted into the German Army and then not seen for eight years as he became a prisoner in
Russia. The years of war and time without his father took toil on the author/illustrator. A frail
father eventually returned, and Carle had to rely on his early memories of his father to
encourage him and even give him artistic inspiration. Carle recalls one such memory that has
inspired many of his books involving nature as he related that he and his father used to go for
long walks in the countryside together, and he would peel back tree bark to show me what was
underneath it, lift rocks to reveal the insects. As a result, I have an abiding love and affection for
small insignificant animals ( Eric ). With his creativity and inner child, Carle who is now in his

not end with books; his other interests lie in painting, sculpture, printmaking, as well as furniture

Dramatic Elements In Aunt Raini
In this theatrical production Aunt Raini, directed by the playwright Tom Smith and produced by
Pacific Lutheran University, has successfully perform theatrical elements within different
perspective of the performance, while the performance has connected and integrated the content
based from the script stories. For instance, from a stageproduction perspective, the constructing
style of the scenes, walls, flats or hand props and the accurate placement of stage properties on
stage has specified the background story setting while different style of composing, designing and
painting of the scenery represent the amount of efforts and works that whole crew had put in during
the process of theater production.
The story of the theatrical performance Aunt Raini was inspired by Leni Riefenstahl, a world
renowned filmmaker who creates the documentary Triumph of the Willof the Reich Party Congress
1934 in Nuremberg. Sadly, most of Riefenstahl s works after this documentary are reference as
pieces of propaganda for the Nazi Party, which led to her to be misunderstood and isolated within
the art and film communities throughout her lifetime. In this performance, Leni Riefenstahl, also
reference as the protagonist character of Aunt Raini , has come to New York City to visit her
grandniece Katherine. On the other hand, Katherine, known as The Great Revealer for her ability
to find the best up and coming artists on the Time magazine, is a successful art gallery owner.

Carrie Chapman Catt Analysis
If Carrie Chapman Catt were alive today, she would be fighting for the Women s March going on
all around the United States. The Women s March harnesses the political power of women to
transform our society. After all, women s rights are human rights. Carrie Chapman Catt would
expose problems such as reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, workers rights, immigrant rights,
environmental justice, as well as ending violence against women. Reproductive rights are best
defined as having the ability to decide whether and when to have children (statusofwomendata.org).
Carrie Chapman Catt would argue that it is not in fact the government s business as to whether a

An umbrella term that is often used to refer to the community as a whole (LGBTQIA.ucdavis.edu).
This is one of the many values that Carrie Chapman Catt holds, and she would exultant that society
is starting to become more accepting of the LGBTQIA community. Human rights are imperative,
and I think that Carrie Chapman Catt would agree with me on that. Workers rights deem to help
ensure equal opportunities for all women and men to obtain decent and productive work, in
conditions of freedom, equity, security, and dignity (dol.gov). Once again, this epitomizes equal
rights for everyone, which is just what Carrie Chapman Catt would say. Environmental justice is the
fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin,
or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental
laws, regulations, and policies (epa.gov). An equal playing field is just what society needs, and this
goes hand in hand with one of Carrie Chapman Catt s greatest achievements: the nineteenth
amendment. The nineteenth amendment granted women the right to vote (history.com), which is
just one aspect of environmental

Social Classes During The Elizabethan Era Essay
The Social Classes During the Elizabethan Era
Imagine being born into the Elizabethan Era where your social class is already determined for
you and you cannot switch classes ever. This is the case during the Shakespearean era. There were
six total social classes of Elizabethan England. The social class system listed in order from highest
to lowest is; Monarch, Nobility, Gentry, Merchants, Yeomanry, and Laborers. Depending on which
class you were in this would affect your living conditions, authority, wealth, work, lifestyle and
religion. There were also many cultural differences among the social classes during Elizabethan
times.
The wealthiest social class during the Elizabethan era was the Monarch. Queen Elizabeth was at
the top of the social pyramid (BBC). Queen Elizabeth was considered to be at the top of the
social pyramid because she had the most power and authority. The queen and king had a lot of
power over the people; for example, they can make the decision to switch social classes for
certain people of their choosing (Sharnette). The monarch class had a lot of money and did not
have to work because they had enough money to hire people to do work for them. They typically
hired nobles and a few people from the Gentry class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Theatre And Education
People define theatre as an escape from reality. A place where one could just sit in the dark and
watch a fairytale come to life before his very eyes. Theatre and live performance is pastime that
has been a part of our culture for thousands of years. Unfortunately there has been a decline in the
use of arts in all aspects as people feel that they are unnecessary. Theatrecan benefit the human race.
Incorporating arts into the classroom, whether as a subject itself or integrating it into the
curriculum, is increasingly being accepted as a vital part of being successful in school. Yet, this
study is slowly and quietly disappearing. In schools across the country, students are losing
opportunities to participate in creative outlets as a result of budget cuts. In May 2005, a poll

The Importance of Family in The Farming of Bones by...
THE IMPORTANCE OF A FAMILY
Having a loving family is something that no child should live without. A loving family helps
shape your personality, and also helps instil good decision making in you. They also act as your
support system, when you are going through hard times. Lastly, they teach you about your heritage
and culture, this helps create a sense of belonging. These are just a few reasons why having a
loving family is something every child should have. This theme is shown through THE FARMING

Black on Black Racism Essay
Abstract The days of picking cotton and the hierarchy of slaves are long gone but the colonial
mentality of disunity may still exists among African Americans. Some of the major conflicts that
remain at the core of this disunity, include: black on black crime, beauty and self esteem, and
blacks over representation in the criminal justice system. Although there are many reasons that
support these conflicts, one may wonder if the arrival of the social identity of blacks in America is
the root cause for the conflicts. The purpose of this quantitative study is to explore the effects of
racial attitudes of blacks on images of themselves with varying skin tones. Supplemental to the

See attached appendix A and B. The arrival of the African American identity began with slavery
and the slave master s behavior toward the field slave and the house slave. In other words, the
identity of the African American was given by European slave masters instead of their personal
creation. African women were raped and the slave master s preferential treatment of their
offspring created a hierarchy among the slaves. As author Roger Smith (2004) explained, power
and privileges were given to those with lighter complexions over those who are darker. In the
days of slavery, light skin blacks were assigned to the house while blacks with dark skin had to
work the fields. (p.1). The promise of educational opportunities were also given to slaves with
lighter complexions. The indoctrination of Jim Crow Laws and white supremacy proved to keep
the institution of slavery going even after its abolishment. Subsequent to the abolishment of slavery,
blacks traveled to northern states and cities and created their own societies. According to author G.
Reginald Daniel, in his book, More than Black, Blue Vein societies consisted of pluralistic elites
within the African American community. Membership in these societies were determined by
individuals phenotypical and cultural resemblance with European Americans (p. 4). The structural
set up of these societies created an illusion of escaping the common stereotypes of blacks. Upon

The Pros And Cons Of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
On February 3, 2017, Tim Piazza, a sophomore here at Penn State, tragically lost his life at the Beta
Theta Pi fraternity house. This horrific event was a result of irresponsible consumption of alcohol
and binge drinking. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Around the nation, countless young adults
have lost their life due to the thoughtless consumption of alcohol. Unfortunately, the common
census between the majority of the average day Americans is that the most effective way to make
drinking safer for young adults is enforcing a minimum drinking age of twenty one. This law, as
well as the common census, are a direct result from the efforts of Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD) more than thirty years ago ( Drinking Culture). MADD s objective and goal is quite
understandable; they want the young adults of today s world to be safe and not put themselves
into dangerous situations with alcohol, but they doing more harm than good. ( The Problem ).
Safety is the single objective from each side in this argument, but MADD s flawed logic and
ignorance to reality has formed a belief that results in an unsafe drinking culture, resulting in more
deaths, such as the tragic passing of Tim Piazza, unless the drinking age is lowered to eighteen, as
well as establishing an open dialogue about drinking itself. Mothers Against Drunk Driving aims to
create the safest possible environment for a young adults to develop, but their argument contains a

for pole is 4 and the least value is 0 and same thing happens for the constants. Each unit reduces an

8 poles into 4 poles then the 4 new poles into the final 2 poles. E.Particle Swarm Technique
Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is initialized with a group of random particles (solutions) and
then searches for optima by updating generations. In every iteration, each particle is updated by
following two best values. The first one is the best solution (fitness) each particle has achieved
so far, this value is called Pbest. Another best value that is tracked by the particle swarm
optimizer is the best value, obtained so far by any particle in the population. This best value is a
global best and called Gbest. Each particle consists of: Data representing a possible solution, a
velocity value indicating how much the Data can be changed, a personal best (Pbest) value
indicating the closest the particle s Data has ever come to the Target.

but fail to contact her ever again. Grace is further devastated and is sent into depression, when
her beloved husband is taken away from her to fight in the war. This resulted in her taking up all

Her pain is very clearly seen when she say you already left us once, you can t again to her

When she disagrees, they do everything in their power to make their life difficult. So as the story

Symbolic Interaction Perspective On Deviance As Applied In...
This paper compares and contrasts three different analyses on deviance as applied in social
science. It begins by defining what deviance means in respect to societal norms, then goes ahead to
expound on symbolic interaction, social conflict, and finally the functional, perspectives on
deviance. The paper then zeroes in on the social conflict perspective and its influence in dispute
resolution in societal disagreements. In analyzing the social conflict theory, the position held by
the paper contradicts this school of thought by arguing for a capitalist approach to work that
rewards hard work individually, and concludes by advancing the course of dialogue as a remedy to
disputes between societal citizens.
Deviance
Social science describes deviance as an act or trait that runs contrary to acceptable norms in a
society, whether in formal or informal settings. Deviance may be clustered as any acts or violations
that run parallel with values and rules of an established social system. The unacceptable trait could
well be beyond agreeable limits set by society. Rubington and Weinberg
(2015), explain that deviance is relative and subject to place and time since a deviance in one
setting cannot be categorized as such in a different perspective. In sociology, deviant actions will
differ from place to place depending on the societal norms attributable to each community.
Symbolic Interaction Perspective on Deviance
Symbolic interaction concerns interactive

question. Shakespeare uses the simple infinitive of to be , in the opening of the most famous

People lose loved ones and are forced to endure sickness and poverty, which are much more
prevalent problems in life, yet Hamlet says that life is painful due to the abuses of superiors, to
the insults of the arrogant, and to the pains of a once sided love. However, when Hamlet lists his
problems, he is not referencing man s universal pains but the pains he feels himself from King
Claudius killing his father and verbally abusing Hamlet and the unrequited love he experiences
from a girl named Ophelia. In this instance, and in every other instance within the play, Hamlet
isn t directly acknowledging the depression he faces, as he only hints at his sorrows, something

The Relationship Between Divorce And Love In American...
Today, divorce has become a common cultural and historical concern and an American way of
life (Whitehead). This essay studies the relationship between divorce and love as presented in
numerous realist literary works from the turn of the century, including A Modern Instance by
William Dean Howells, Marry Me: A Romance by John Updike, and The Custom of the Country
by Edith Wharton. Closely reviewing these novels, I examine love as well as divorce, which
saw a remarkable increase between the years 1880 and 1920. Moving the topic of divorce to the
forefront illuminates love in real life and helps us understand the ways in which these realists
were actively participating in and engaging with the issues of society during their era, rather
than exposing life as they saw it. In each of these novels, this old fashioned subject of love or
romance is presented with a sort of sympathetic disdain, creating a tension in these texts rendered
thematically by the disruptive subject of divorce and informed by contradictory beautiful and
social priorities that shape an analysis of the present and the past on which it depends. A closer
glimpse at divorce in American literature is captivating because love has played a central role in
the history of literature as a whole. It has been demonstrated that love has served as a complex
conceptual formal function in the development of literature through each era. Love and marriage
have been pivotal to the plot and shape of literary works, serving as

The Giver, And The Real World
When considering the similarities between Lois Lowry s novel, The Giver, and the real world;
one must consider all aspects of our domain, and history. A few similarities stand out as being
predominantly controlling. The Giver, possesses several resemblances to Nazi Germany. The
novel also portrays an appalling method for dealing with newborns that are less desirable. The
novel also reflects on the way those who are too old are sent on a vacation to elsewhere. The
novel leads one to assume that the handicapped would be met with equal cruelty. The story
primarily sets forth ideas that are relevant of the era; when politically correctness would have
been obstructing to an individual s uniqueness. There reaches a point where conformity and
perfection is controlling of an individual s free will, and Lowry tries hard to portray the issues
found in a world where everyone is the same; in which she indisputably succeeded. First of all, the
story of, The Giver, has many similarities to the founding principles of Nazi Germany. Such as the
extermination of all who oppose their rule. As well as the destruction of any that are unfit to
work and pull their own weight. The retirement program in The Giver is a release. In Nazi
Germany we see the same idea, being those who can and will work get to live, and those who are of
no use to the Reich were executed.

Minority Serving Institutions and the American Education...
Minority serving institutions have been an integral part of the education system in the United
States since before the Civil War (LeMelle, 2002). Historically black colleges and universities
(HBCUs) have, for much of their existence, been criticized for the level of academic rigor,
political context, and their social agenda have created controversy for generations. With that being
said, HBCUs hold a valuable place in the landscape of US higher educationinstitutions. The culture,
history, and perspective that is taught and shared are unparalleled and cannot be replicated at a
predominately white institution (PWI). The Higher EducationAct of 1965 gave opportunities for
educational advancement and financial aid programs to previously disadvantaged students
(Roebuck, 1993). This meant that underrepresented minorities were then granted access to colleges
and universities which they were previously not permitted. As PWIs were increasing
underrepresented minority enrollment in the 1960s, HBCUs were gaining strength. Financial aid
and accrediting bodies were paying closer attention to the needs of these institutions; more and
more students were enticed to enroll in higher education and seek otherwise impossible
opportunities. HBCUs face significant challenges. When compared to PWIs, HBCUs are more
likely to have students which are from low income environments, be the first in their families to
attend college, or need developmental courses (Rios, 2008). These challenges that

A Theory Model Of Production Organization
Just in time first proposes tools to strengthen organizational interaction, that is to say, to increase the
interactivity between the organs or persons involved in the execution, design and decision. Indeed,
the traditional model of production organization, of Taylorian inspiration, which is based on a
specialized hierarchical management model (functionalist model), is judged to be unsuitable for the
rise of uncertainty Is manifested by the difficulty in foreseeing the activities and the productions to
be carried out. Just in time therefore opposes this model by seeking to reduce stocks, and
consequently by controlling the interdependence between the different workplaces. This has the
consequence of modifying the organization of work in the direction of a reinforcement of the
interaction which requires: There will be sensible accord Around examiners that in the nick of time

A Comparison of Guido and Dora Orefice in the Film Life Is...
The characters of Guido and Dora Orefice, from the Italian film Life is Beautiful have many
differences in their personalities and backgrounds but are very similar in some important ways.
They are both strong willed, independent, and have strong family values. Guido is a Jewish man,
who is presumably poor because the beginning of the film deals with him attempting to find a
job. He eventually finds one as a waiter, which suits his personality because he is the type of
person that always wants to please others and make them happy. Despite the prejudice he
receives for being Jewish he is a very happy and good humored person. Dora on the other hand,
grew up in very different circumstances. She is not Jewish, probably Christian, and is from a
fairly wealthy family. She is already engaged to another man, the man who refused Guido a job
after he accidentally dropped eggs on his head. She is a somewhat reserved teacher and seems to
be a very responsible, well behaved, and compliant woman, until she meets Guido that is. Guido
falls in love with her immediately when he meets her. Dora doesn t appear to fall in love as
instantaneously as Guido does but she eventually fall for him and she asks him to take her away.
They leave her engagement party together on horseback in front of her whole family. As a result
of her leaving the other man for an undesirable , Dora is ostracized by her entire family. In their
minds she has shamed them for marrying a Jewish man. However, she goes on to

Effectiveness And The Overall Perception Of The Police Force
A diverse society is a society in which there are different kinds of people, different races such as
black, white, Asian, Mexican etc. The concept of diversity involves acceptance and respect. It
means understanding that each individual is unique and recognising individual differences. These
can be along the dimensions of race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socio economic
status, physical abilities and religious beliefs.
Diversity in the police force is one of the most important aspects that should be looked at. This is
due to the outcome that it is most likely to have on the effectiveness and the overall perception
of the police force. Policing is one of the most vital requirements of a non violent living of
society. Policing can be seen as overseeing others ensuring that they keep to law and order. As a
result the most significant work of the police is to implement public orders and ensure that they
abide by the law. The police force is given the order of enforcing law in the society. It ensures
people to practice their individual rights but in doing so they do not obstruct with the rights of
others to practice their rights too.
The police force is also given responsibilities to oversee the public relationship. In servicing the
public, the police therefore are involved in an arrangement of activities that are meant to ensure a
supportive atmosphere of life in the public. In this regard, they adapt important functions like
management and directing of traffic,

With the Old Breed
Eugene B. Sledge, With The Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa, (Novato, California: Presidio
Press, 1981)
With The Old Breed is an amazing narrative about the triumphs and defeats of the Kilo Company,
Third Battalion, Fifth Marines in which Private First Class (PFC) Eugene B. Sledge is apart of
while on the islands of Peleliu and Okinawa during World War II. Both of these battles were
known for their bloody and brutal fights. Sledge gives incredible descriptions of his personal
experiences dealing with the climate and conditions of which he and his unit dealt with along with
describing in great detail the actions of the Marines as they fought the Japanese.

The battle for Okinawa was the ultimate test of the fortitude of men in combat. Their resolve was
tested daily as the fight consumed men and energy at a rate never experienced in fighting in the
Pacific. For the infantry units, the losses were hard to comprehend, when compared to what are
considered heavy losses by today s standards. Sledge describes the challenges of climate as the
Marines deal with cold, rain and heat, all the while engaging the enemy in fierce combat. The
sustained exposure to the stresses of combat, push the men to their limits and beyond as they
fight for control of the island. Almost when he thinks he can t take anymore fighting or any
more deaths of his friends. They get news on June 21st 1945 that the island is finally secured
and they will soon be leaving the island. You can tell this immediately gives hope and reassures
Sledge that he wont lose it psychologically like he had seen happen to many of his fellow
comrades. Sledge stops and breathes for a moment and eats some fresh fruit, smokes his pipe and
looks out over the beautiful open sea.
Throughout all the turmoil that Sledge went through during the war, he was able to keep his sanity
along with a compassionate optimism for humanity and that to me tells you that he truly was a
great Marine.

Neighborhood Observation
I think the thing that I learned the most about Baltimore communities and schools during this
excursion was that the quality of the neighborhoods changes so rapidly from street to street. I
have never experienced such a quick and powerful juxtaposition between different
socioeconomical areas in my life. In Little Rock, where I am from, the shift in areas is much
more gradual and areas are grouped in larger clusters. In Baltimore, I have noticed that isn t true.
Neighborhoods rapidly shift from block to block The transition from Canton to Madison
happened so quickly that I thought I had missed something originally. This is so interesting to me
and I would love to learn more about why this is the way that it is. I am very ignorant of large
cities in general, but in my experience I have gotten the feeling that this phenomenon is not as
produced. I also noticed in Madison the beginning of gentrification and increased socioeconomic
development. It was clear from the number of recently sold properties and the advertisements used
to sell new properties that the developers in this neighborhood where trying to bring in a different...

Canton had many restaurants and markets and supermarkets and food sources, but Madison had
just a couple corner stores and one supermarket . Combined with the data we gathered from
research that half of Madison residents do not have access to cars, we identified that Madison
might be a food desert . A food desert is a place where it is exceedingly difficult to find food, and
harder to find healthy hood, and even more expensive. The people in Madison have very limited
options in terms of access to food, and are thus forced to spend comparatively more of their
resources in order to access the food they need. I thought the day in the market initiative put on by
Johns Hopkins University was an important first step, but I am not sure if it does enough to meet

Essay on Comparing Othello and The Great Gatsby
All tragedies eventually end in chaos; however, Othello and The Great Gatsby both begin with
innocent characters thinking little about the possibility of disarray. During the climax of both
works it becomes evident that the idea of order is doomed, inevitably leading to a bounding spiral
of problems. The Great Gatsbyand Othelloboth end in chaos because the protagonists, Othello and
Gatsby are outsiders entering an ordered society. The actions of many characters cause confusion in
the storyline, and the chaos in both works gradually impact the downfall of every character.

This brings about chaos, as Daisy has been unaware of Gatsby s illegal ventures and how he made
his money. Jay Gatsby and Othello are easily manipulated by other characters because they are both
outsiders. Being outsiders, both protagonists dramatically stimulate chaos in the plot.
Both Shakespeare and Fitzgerald want the reader to understand that sometimes many characters
can be to blame for the chaos that occurs. One may think that the downfall of the plots happen
solely because of the actions of the protagonists, Gatsby and Othello, when in reality, many other
characters are to blame. In Othello, Iago is behind Othello s deception making him believe that
his wife, Desdemona is unfaithful. Iago uses the other characters as pawns in his game to achieve
his main objective, obtaining the spot as lieutenant. During a party at Cyprus, Roderigo
convinces Cassio, upon encouragement by Iago, to drink and have a good time. This ends in a
fight between Roderigo and Cassio who then says, reputation, reputation, reputation (Shakespeare
2.3.281). Cassio is expressing his sadness as he is in fear that he has ruined his reputation after
Othello dismisses him from his place as lieutenant. Iago s plan has begun and he has already
played his first move, adding to the already visible chaos. Unlike Iago, Gatsby is not trying to

Short Summary Of Araby
James Joyce tells a story of a young boy around the age of eleven, who lives with his uncle and
aunt in an uninhabited house at the end of a blind corner. He likes to play with his friends till
late night. Araby also known as the bazaar was the place he wishes to visit. This story is mainly
based on the type of place where they live, his fondness toward his friend s sister, and the
Araby(bazaar) where he wanted to go. According to the story the place they live sounds awful
because as he mentioned The former tenant of our house, a priest, had died in the back drawing
room (Joyce 86). This place doesn t sounds adequate enough for a child to live in because it can
cause unnecessary fear for the child. Also he was playing in the contaminating place till late
night in freezing cold, which can be proven harmful for a child s physical health. Once his aunt
send him to market to pick up some of the parcels, on his way he saw drunken men, druggies, and
some bad people were cursing on each other. Those were the worst things for a child to see, and
a child was not supposed to send to those kind of market as well. Living in this type of
environment is dangerous for the child s future because a child learn faster by observing an
adult . His uncle and aunt were careless about him. They never paid attention to the things he
had been doing during their absence. On the other hand, they should have used all the bad things
to give him an example that, if he started doing those things he will never able to be a successful
man. He will be stuck there as those people were, and never will able to see a good lifestyle. But
his uncle and aunt had never bother themselves to teach him anything. As he likes to play with
Mangan everyday. Most of the time Mangan s sister come out to call him for tea, and he (Joyce
as a child) likes to watch his sister, every time she come out of her house. A little by little he
started liking her, but he was scared to talk to her. Except some casual talks. He was in love with
her because everyday he uses different techniques to take a glance at her. Once he murmured: O
love! O love! many times for her. He promised her that he will bring something for her whenever he
goes to Araby. For a eleven year

Stereotyping In The Media
How often do we find ourselves laughing at an inappropriate stereotype that is promoted in the
media? It seems that as we continue to move through time, stereotypes in the media become more
and more prominent. Some find them as forms of comic relief while others, including myself, see
them as another way to showcase our ignorance of the people and world around us. The stereotype
that revolves around Indians, also known as South Asians, tends to be the most recognizable. In
order to understand this stereotype in the media, we will focus on the typical stereotypes that
involve this group of people, why we stereotype against Indians, and ways it effects future
generations. What are some of the more popular shows in our media that portray... Show more

In the beginning, the stereotypes developed were seen as acceptable because they represented
Indians. As we move through time, they have become over exaggerated and unacceptable. The
stereotypes have been pushed to an unbelievable limit and they stopped coming off as funny to
Indians. Since these stereotypes were created, the Indian community has outgrown them and no
longer sees them as accurate representation. Pari Mathur explains in his article titles Who I Was
and Who I Want to Be Indian Americans in Media that unfortunately, the media s preconceived
idea of Indians makes it difficult for society to look at Indians and not see just a dude who
bobbles his head with a mustache, because that s what they ve seen on TV (Mathur, 2013). After
speaking with my close friend, Shobin Shanko, a first generation Indian American, he explains
that in comparison to other stereotypes, they are moving away from the stereotypical ways that
they were portrayed back in the day versus Indian and Asian stereotypes are still very prevalent
(Shanko, 2016). In order to change how society views Indians in the media, it is up to the Indian
community to begin breaking down the stereotypes. The breakdown of stereotypes has begun in
more recent years. Actors, specifically Indian actors, have worked to fix these stereotypes. In the

Examples Of Rational Choice Theory By Ronald Goby
1)According to the rational choice theory human actions are based on rationality. In other words an
individual that commit a crime is rational and he/she thinks that the decision that they are taken is
the one that bring the most benefits. Crime is committed for a rational person after the pros and
cons from disobeying the law are evaluated.
In today s society everybody knows that pornography is illegal. That a person is considered an
adult when he/she turns 21. Ronald Goby was clearly conscious about what he was doing, he had

It imposes the obligation to perform professional services to the best of the auditor s ability with
concern for the best interest of the public.
1. I think that auditors should be held liable for failing to discover fraud. There are many ways the
fraud could have been discovered over the years if the auditors performed an objective audit that
followed rules and regulations. It is an auditor s obligation to perform an audit with objectivity,
skepticism, independence, and objectivity. Ernst amp; Whinney failed to meet these criteria. The
auditors did not follow professional skepticism because when Minkow asked them to sign a
confidentiality agreement to not follow up with any contractors, insurance companies, or

Whinney should have seen a red flag from the start because there was an unreasonable growth in
his company and he lived an extremely extravagant lifestyle. Minkow also had problems meeting
his loan debt and there were many inconsistencies in ZZZZ invoices. I think that the relationship
between Ernst and ZZZZ did influence the risk assessment and the work done in the audit.
Because Ernst did not want to lose ZZZZ as its biggest client, the work was not done objectively.
There was a bias because Ernst wanted to keep the wiz of wall

  • 2. Juvenile Homicide Can Be Prevented Essay Introduction For every 12 homicides committed in the United States 1 of them involves a juvenile offender (Howard N. Snyder, Juvenile Offenders and Victims, 2006). Although most American don t realize it, juvenile homicide is a problem in the United States that needs to be fixed. Even though statistics show that the homicide rate done by juveniles is at its lowest rate since the early 1980 s it is still a problem. Juvenile homicide has lowered in the recent years, but the fact that it still happens is chilling to most Americans. Most Americans believe that juveniles who show early signs of deviant acts are not a big deal, however if we try and help those juveniles, we can possibly stop them from committing homicidal acts when they get... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the recent years many criminologists have used three different demographics used to describe juvenile homicide offenders. Those are: juvenile gang members, between 15 17 years in age, and mostly males (Directorate, 2002). They are often gang members; when gangs recruit members to join their gang they will often target the young, because they can mold them to believe that the gang is the main thing in their life. If they get in the gang they are more likely to begin to carry guns, and deal drugs compared to juveniles who are not gang members. In data gathered from interviews of arrested juveniles in the Drug Use Forecasting (DUF) study, The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention states that juvenile gang members are reasonably more likely to carry a gun on a day to day basis compared to the juveniles which are not involved in gangs (31% percent compared to 20%) (James C. Howell, 1999). With saying that, James C. Howell, and Scott R. Decker found that the juvenile homicide problem in St. Louis was mainly largely a gun homicide problem (James C. Howell, 1999). The average age of a juvenile homicide offender is in their upper teens. According to The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention from 2006 and 2008, 90% of the juvenile homicide offenders were 15 17 years old, compared to only 10% were 6 14 years old. • 3. Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory The chosen learner is Jake s mother, Jennifer. Her cognitive developmental level, according to Piaget, is formal operations (Hemmelgarn, 2011). Accordingly, she has most likely advanced from using logical reasoning with concrete examples (concrete operations) to abstract thinking. The impact this might have on her learningis that she should be encouraged to be self directed and autonomous as she educates herself about her son s diabetes. A review of the information obtained can e reviewed and expanded upon with the educator. At this developmental stage, she is internally motivated and may rely on previous experiences (Bastable, 2014). In conversations, the educator should inquire as to her thoughts and feelings and offer guidance as needed. It will be important for the educator to give Jennifer direction and support as she begins this process of learning about her son s disease. An appropriate theory for organizing Jennifer s learning would be Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory. The rationale that Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory would be appropriate for Jennifer is that the four principles of adult learning identified by Knowles are congruent with the life situation she is now faced (Pappas, 2013). As an adult and a mother of a child diagnosed with diabetes, she needs to be involved in the planning of her learning to make it pertinent and meaning to her; her previous life and learning experiences need to be recognized; she will be most interested in ... • 4. Hitchcock s Manipulation of the Audience s Point of View... Hitchcock s Manipulation of the Audience s Point of View in the Shower Scene in Psycho Hitchcock has a unique style when it comes to films and manipulation of the audience. He likes to give the audience several types of view that in turn give us an incite into the characters feelings and emotions. He likes to change the lighting, camera angle and mise en scene to manipulate he viewer s point of view. He is a talented director with unique ability to twist the audience s opinions and play on emotions with the greatest of ease. In the shower scene in Psycho, The first shot he chooses to give us is of a voyeuristic one. He show us Norman Bates moving a picture aside so that he can peep into the room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camera keeps a distance from Norman even when Norman reaches the house. As he moves to sit at the dining room table, the camera is positioned at the front door so there is the space of the corridor between the audience and Norman. This manipulates the audience making us feel sorry for him and also the fact his facial expression makes him seem very lonely and distant. In almost al of the scenes we see with Norman his face is in the shadows and this scene is no exception all the while we see normal he is surrounded by a dark gloom that makes him seem almost inhuman. We then cut back to Marion turning on the shower in the motel room. The next shot is of the showerhead with a jet of water spraying into the bath. Marion takes off her robe and gets into the shower. We only see Marion in the shower from the collarbone upwards ad it would be pushing TV too far if they were to show anymore. It leaves the audience with a feeling of curiosity. The slight glimpse of skin lets the audience s imagination put the rest of the picture together. The camera at this point is pointing downwards on Marion. This makes the audience feel more dominant towards the actress. It also connotes Marion to be vulnerable and submissive. When we see her start to wash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Run-Time Array Bound Checking Essay A Review of Run Time Array Bound Checking Techniques Shaan Shetty School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Cornell University, Ithaca NY srs383@cornell.edu ABSTRACT C has been the most popular programming language for the last several decades due to its simplicity and superior performance. Due to this reason, most legacy software is in C. But in recent times, several breaches in security and reliability have been found to occur due to lack of memory safety of the C programming language. Memory corruption bugs in programs can breach security, and faults in kernel extensions can bring down the entire operating system. Modern languages such as C# and Java enforce memory safety and hence prevent these security vulnerabilities.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Austin, Scott E. Breach, and Gurindar S. Sohi [1]. The idea here is to augment the pointer representation in memory with the bounds of the pointer s target. Spatial safety is enforced by checking these bounds whenever a pointer is dereferenced. These fat pointers consist of the following parameters, value: The value of the safe pointer; it may contain any expressible address., base and size: The base address of the referent and its size in bytes, storageClass: The storage class of the allocation, either Heap, Local, or Global., capability: When dynamic variables are created, either through explicit storage allocation (e.g., calls to malloc()) or through procedure invocations (i.e., a procedure call creates the local variables in the stack frame of the procedure), a unique capability is issued to that storage allocation. The value attribute is the only safe pointer member that can be manipulated by the program source; all other members are inaccessible. base and size are the spatial attributes. storageClass and capability are the temporal attributes. 1.2CCured CCured is a program transformation system that adds memory safety guarantees to C programs. It was proposed by George C. Necula, Jeremy Condit, Matthew Harren, Scott Mcpeak, and Westley Weimer[2]. This approach classifies pointers as WILD, SEQ and SAFE depending on their usage modes. • 6. Bill Of Right At The International Level Bill of rights The idea of a bill of right at the international level was conceived at the time of framing the charter of the U.N.at the San Francisco conference in 1945, at which the organization was established. President Truman of the US in his closing speech to the conference stated that under the charter we have good reason to expect the framing of an international bill of rights, acceptable to all the nations involved. That bill of rights will be as much part of international life as our own bill of rights is a part of our constitution. (1) International bill of human rights consists of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (UDHR), the international covenant on civil and political rights along with its protocol and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also emphasized the need for international protection of human rights. The conscience of human beings worldwide was shocked by Mussolini s fascist government of Italy, the Spanish civil war and the Franco regime. The most significant formulation of this vision of a new international legal order was the message to the US congress, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in January 1941 in which he referred to the four freedoms : freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear which were among the foundations upon which planning for the united nation was started. In 1945 at the San Francisco Conference, where the UN Charter was finally drafted, several actors contributed to the greater emphasis on human rights. Although the suggestion of creating a commission on human rights was controversial among the great powers, the US finally achieved its adoption. Thus, a commission on human rights was the only one explicitly mentioned in the UN charter, and consequently, the human rights issue had got a flying start within the United Nations. United nation was formally established on 24th October 1945.Human rights issue were assigned to the economic and social council (ECOSOC), at the first session of which the nuclear commission on human rights was set up. This commission met in April/May 1946 and made recommendation on composition and terms of reference. These matters were finally decided by the ECOSOC s second session, in which full ... • 7. Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons; this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway. Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific research, collaborative management, and marketing solution. The focus of this paper is on Public Lands Management, the attention will be given to the challenges and opportunities that lie within. Therefore, this section will concentrate on the collaborative management tool. It will describe the pro s and con s in environmental policy making Davis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Appalachian Trail Analysis Bryson s main argument throughout the novel is that Americans yearn for the days of old, represented through the Appalachian Trail, and one way he proves this is with his personal encounters on the Appalachian Trail itself. For a trail as long and arduous as the Appalachian Trail, it would be assumed that only serious and dedicated hikers would even consider hikingthe trip. However, as Bryson demonstrates, this is not the case. Often times, ordinary American citizens who may have never even hiked before decide to hike the trail. For this, it is not necessary to look any further than the author and his partner Katz. Neither of them is particularly fit and it Katz s case, well prepared mentally. Bryson even admits this when he states that he ...was hopelessly out of shape... (Bryson 35) proving they were not avid hikers. Throughout their hike, they also ran into a plethora of average citizens, and is one case they ...found a Boy Scout troop... (Bryson 147) that been hiking the woods. One day, after running into a crowded shelter, Bryson noted that it was spring break at nearby colleges and ...scores of young people all had the idea to come hiking... (Bryson 99). In all these cases, none of the people hiking on the trail are actually athletic avid hikers, rather they are standard average citizens. Why would average citizens decide to hike the Appalachian Trail? Bryson believes that the reason for this is for people wanting to experience the beauty and simplicity of being ... • 9. Taking a Look at Australian Courtrooms Australian courtrooms are highly ritualised spaces where various long serving customs and traditions are strictly followed in order to constitute events of power, and also featured in the relative power relations. As was evident by the local courtrooms visited within The Downing Centre, the architecture, language, courtroomactors and spatial organisation demonstrate the numerous levels of power, of which are present. This usage of power is evident as visible through the relationships between the courtroom actors, particularly those between the judgeor magistrate, the witnesses and lastly, the lawyers. These relations significantly highlight the disparity of power between these individuals. Simultaneously, the courtroom architecture of which is present also signals and represents the different levels of power during court proceedings. In addition, the use of legal jargon in one s favour is also a worthy indicator of attaining this much sought after power aforementioned. Within a courtroom, power relations are revealed at their greatest extent, in the instances of the interaction between the different courtroom actors. During the observation of a particular criminal case, it became clear to myself that the chain of power in a courtroom features the judge or magistrate at the top, followed by the lawyer (or defendant if they are representing themselves), with the witnesses and defendants at the bottom. This form of power distribution further exemplifies the ritualistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Long Walk Home Sociology Sociology Midterm Video Analysis 1. Summary: The film I chose for this analysis is The Long Walk Home, directed by Richard Pearce. This film is about Odessa, an African American maid in the Thompson family s household in Montgomery, Alabama in the 1950s. On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake s order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled. Ms. Parks was arrested and there followed the Montgomery Bus Boycott when the entire African American population refused to ride any of the city buses. In another event, some racist white boys attack and hit Odessa s daughter and son for having darker skin and being idiot coons. This is one of many examples of racism being a factor. The ultimate clash of the subordinate (whites) and insubordinate (African Americans) groups comes at end of the film with the mob seen at the carpool lot. • 11. The Radical Groups Of Thinkers Throughout the recent centuries, biologists, psychologist, and sociologists have been franticly researching a single question, which if solved, can help us decode our every behavior and decision. Why exactly are we the people we are today? This question has sparked many passionate debates, one of them being; Nature (Genetics, biological traits,) versus Nurture (Environmental effects, learning behavior). There are two radical groups of thinkers in which strictly oppose each other, Nativists and Empiricist and with a common interest in mind, their perspective of how a being develops behaviorally and cognitively differ drastically with very few to none similarities. This theory provides the most insight to the mystery that is ourselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, we have not the slightest proof that behavioral traits are passed down through genetics, which leads us to believe that our next best answer would consist of environmental stimuli influencing our development of the mind. An example of an environmental stimuli would be social interaction, in which we all show signs of change from our fetal stages to the day we die. During this time span of time we form our own unique individuality and behavior. There are many different perspectives of psychology in which psychologists try to explain the reasoning behind humanistic behavior and thinking. There are two extremist groups of psychologists that strictly oppose each other when it comes to the Nature vs. Nurture theory. Nativists, psychologists who adopt strong hereditary reasoning or Nature theory, believe humans are a product of evolution and our inner and external traits as well as our behavior are due to our very complex genetic form. The Nativists believe our individuality is a result of the mixed genetic code, which we get from both of our parents. This code is solely different from any other being in the world. Nativists strongly believe every reaction we have and behavior we exhibit is part of our genetic code, which still remains a mystery today. These thoughts are so radical that after decades of research and experimentation, it is still strongly believed that our genetic code is the proper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Determinismis generally accepted as the opposite of free willin that individuals are not free agents in their own life and decisions and behavior is already planned out for them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5). Essentially, if determinism exists, humans have no freedom of choice in their life and all actions of behavior are already decided for them and can be predicted. For example, in the case of determinism, it could be said that a child born into a family of violent parents will undoubtedly grow up to be violent as well due to observation and genetics (McLeod, 2013). However, this argument falls short because while it may be true that a child with abusive or violent parents is much more likely to grow up and act in the same manner for hereditary or child rearing reasons, that child still has the option to choose not to travel down the path and seek help. Eric Fromm, a noted Neo Freudian, states that all of us have the potential to control our own lives but that many of us are too afraid to do so [and] as a result we give up our freedom and allow our lives to be governed by circumstance, other people, political ideology or irrational feelings (McLeod, 2013, para. 21) Nevertheless, just because someone stays in their same situation and allows themselves to fall prey to circumstance, does not mean that determinism is readily inescapable since the choice to make a change in one s life is still there even if the choice is to not act (McLeod, 2013). ... • 14. The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010). In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010). Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity which some ... Around the nation, countless young adults have lost their life due to the thoughtless consumption of alcohol. In the film, Anne is an extremely strong character, who has the courage to fight for the truth and for her herself, no matter the consequences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effects of war are clearly shown through effect it had on Grace s character. Grace is first affected by the war, when it stole her family; they moved to a new place but fail to contact her ever again. Grace is further devastated and is sent into depression, when her beloved husband is taken away from her to fight in the war. This resulted in her taking up all responsibility of the house as well as leaving her no with whom she can share her miseries with. Her pain is very clearly seen when she say you already left us once, you can t again to her husband s ghost. Her plea evidently shows her pain and her longingness for support to bear the burden and loss. This burden, pain, misery and loss eventually leads her to insanity! These events in her life showed me the effect that war can have on people s lives; the pain, loss and burden they have to bear. This made sympathise with the victims of war and helped understand their pain, which I feel is as equally as harsh as being up in the front as they have to live with the memories of the dead. • 33. Symbolic Interaction Perspective On Deviance As Applied In... This paper compares and contrasts three different analyses on deviance as applied in social science. It begins by defining what deviance means in respect to societal norms, then goes ahead to expound on symbolic interaction, social conflict, and finally the functional, perspectives on deviance. The paper then zeroes in on the social conflict perspective and its influence in dispute resolution in societal disagreements. In analyzing the social conflict theory, the position held by the paper contradicts this school of thought by arguing for a capitalist approach to work that rewards hard work individually, and concludes by advancing the course of dialogue as a remedy to disputes between societal citizens. Deviance Social science describes deviance as an act or trait that runs contrary to acceptable norms in a society, whether in formal or informal settings. Deviance may be clustered as any acts or violations that run parallel with values and rules of an established social system. The unacceptable trait could well be beyond agreeable limits set by society. Rubington and Weinberg (2015), explain that deviance is relative and subject to place and time since a deviance in one setting cannot be categorized as such in a different perspective. In sociology, deviant actions will differ from place to place depending on the societal norms attributable to each community. • 34. William Shakespeare s Hamlet Essay To be or not to be (3.1.64) not whether to live or to die, but the use of to be is an important question. Shakespeare uses the simple infinitive of to be , in the opening of the most famous soliloquy in Hamlet, or perhaps all of Shakespeare, as opposed to the more complex phrase, to live or to die . Before Hamlet, the speaker of this soliloquy, analyzes all of mankind s reasoning behind the subject of life, something both painful and long, and death, something both inevitable and muddied in mystery, he uses the simplest and shortest of infinitives. Seemingly, a simple phrase cannot give justice to some of the more complex and mysterious questions human nature asks; finding answers to why humans suffer through life when they... People lose loved ones and are forced to endure sickness and poverty, which are much more prevalent problems in life, yet Hamlet says that life is painful due to the abuses of superiors, to the insults of the arrogant, and to the pains of a once sided love. However, when Hamlet lists his problems, he is not referencing man s universal pains but the pains he feels himself from King Claudius killing his father and verbally abusing Hamlet and the unrequited love he experiences from a girl named Ophelia. In this instance, and in every other instance within the play, Hamlet isn t directly acknowledging the depression he faces, as he only hints at his sorrows, something also seen throughout the play when he pretends that his madness is part of his act of revenge on King Claudius. So, when Hamlet states that is ridiculous how people to live a life full of slings and arrows (3.1.64) and when one could simply take arms against a sea of troubles and die (3.1.67), he is, in actuality contemplating suicide, as he had referenced the troubles he, himself, faces, making his musings personal, without knowing it. • 37. The Relationship Between Divorce And Love In American... Today, divorce has become a common cultural and historical concern and an American way of life (Whitehead). This essay studies the relationship between divorce and love as presented in numerous realist literary works from the turn of the century, including A Modern Instance by William Dean Howells, Marry Me: A Romance by John Updike, and The Custom of the Country by Edith Wharton. Closely reviewing these novels, I examine love as well as divorce, which saw a remarkable increase between the years 1880 and 1920. Moving the topic of divorce to the forefront illuminates love in real life and helps us understand the ways in which these realists were actively participating in and engaging with the issues of society during their era, rather than exposing life as they saw it. In each of these novels, this old fashioned subject of love or romance is presented with a sort of sympathetic disdain, creating a tension in these texts rendered thematically by the disruptive subject of divorce and informed by contradictory beautiful and social priorities that shape an analysis of the present and the past on which it depends. A closer glimpse at divorce in American literature is captivating because love has played a central role in the history of literature as a whole. It has been demonstrated that love has served as a complex conceptual formal function in the development of literature through each era. Love and marriage have been pivotal to the plot and shape of literary works, serving as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A few similarities stand out as being predominantly controlling. The Giver, possesses several resemblances to Nazi Germany. The novel also portrays an appalling method for dealing with newborns that are less desirable. The novel also reflects on the way those who are too old are sent on a vacation to elsewhere. The novel leads one to assume that the handicapped would be met with equal cruelty. The story primarily sets forth ideas that are relevant of the era; when politically correctness would have been obstructing to an individual s uniqueness. There reaches a point where conformity and perfection is controlling of an individual s free will, and Lowry tries hard to portray the issues found in a world where everyone is the same; in which she indisputably succeeded. First of all, the story of, The Giver, has many similarities to the founding principles of Nazi Germany. Such as the extermination of all who oppose their rule. As well as the destruction of any that are unfit to work and pull their own weight. The retirement program in The Giver is a release. • 39. Minority Serving Institutions and the American Education... Minority serving institutions have been an integral part of the education system in the United States since before the Civil War (LeMelle, 2002). Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have, for much of their existence, been criticized for the level of academic rigor, political context, and their social agenda have created controversy for generations. With that being said, HBCUs hold a valuable place in the landscape of US higher educationinstitutions. The culture, history, and perspective that is taught and shared are unparalleled and cannot be replicated at a predominately white institution (PWI). The Higher EducationAct of 1965 gave opportunities for educational advancement and financial aid programs to previously disadvantaged students (Roebuck, 1993). This meant that underrepresented minorities were then granted access to colleges and universities which they were previously not permitted. As PWIs were increasing underrepresented minority enrollment in the 1960s, HBCUs were gaining strength. Financial aid and accrediting bodies were paying closer attention to the needs of these institutions; more and more students were enticed to enroll in higher education and seek otherwise impossible opportunities. HBCUs face significant challenges. When compared to PWIs, HBCUs are more likely to have students which are from low income environments, be the first in their families to attend college, or need developmental courses (Rios, 2008).
