many of the same characteristics, but they end up having different causes due to their dissimilar
perspectives. Reb and Sara show different perspectives while Shena s funeral is occurring, when
Sara visits her father, or when Fania and Reb discuss the idea of getting married. Reb and Sara
Smolinksy can relate in many ways, but the two characters stand out in distinct ways when Shena,

down (Yezierska 204). Rage was just pounding on Sara from Reb. Sara is getting blamed for her
prosperity by her own father when she only came home because Sara now thought she was old

3. Water Conservation And Its Effects On American Urban...
Water Conservation
How do we stabilize the use of water in American Urban cities without wasting too much money
and drastically changing the lifestyles of people?
When it comes to water conservation, there are two types of changes that are looked upon. There
are little changes in the lifestyles of people and there are changes using technology. Within the two,
the majority of people look at changes using technology, such as desalination and water recycling.
In the other end, mostly environmentalists and vegan activists look at the amount of water eating
food uses and how the agriculture industry uses about half the water in the United States. But is this
really true? And which form of water conservation can be most efficient for the prolongment of the
earth?
Objective definitions are necessary in to understand what stabilization of the use of water really
means. The Merriam Webster Definition of stabilize is to make stable, steadfast, or firm. To be
stable is to be in a good state or condition that is not easily changed or likely to change, according
to Merriam Webster. In this research paper, I will be using stabilization of water as efficiently
using water and not letting it go to waste, such as the what The United States and other more
developed country have already doing. Desalination is converting seawater into drinking water.
Rainwater Harvesting is capturing water through rain and storing for later use. Green roofs are a

4. Edict Of Return In Judaism
The Return
This time period stretches from the defeat of the Babylonian empire by Cyrus of Persia in 539
BCE all the way though the writing of Ezra Nehemiah. During this time, they were evolving from
what Birch would call Yawahist into Judaism Yahwism emerged that allowed for worship in
diverse geographical and social setting but insisted on a worship of Yahweh alone. Such a
development is symbolized by the term Judaism (Birch 434). During this time, they tried to answer
more question of who they were on their return back to Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The return
came in back in two phases that was provoked by the Edict of Return in 538 BCE. The Edict

The physical restoration of Jerusalem and the social restoration of the community would need
to continue, and question about the composition of that community would have to be resolved.
These issues became pressing in the mid fifth century BCE... (Cogan 424). Again we get the
theological and existential question of who are we in the return to Israel just like what was
happening for them during their exile. Some tension came from the Persia giving authority to
Zerubbabel (descendant of Jehoiachin) as civil governor and Joshua (descendant of Zakok) as
high priest which we see in Haggai 1:1; 2:2. Supported by Chronicles and in Ezra 3 6 describes
the rebuilding of the Temple under these 2 leaders. Zerubbabel responsible to king for tribute and
tax payments from Yehud province Official agent of imperial policy Joshua managed money

the God of history and the whole world once again we see tangible integrations with the world. The
Era of return we see the the establishment of boundary makers of their faith to prove their
Jewishness. Several of these boundary makers include the Sabbath, Circumcision, Physical walls

The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar
The European Economic Community (EEC), also known as the common market, was established
in 1957 through the treaty of Rome signed between Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands, and Germany in order to achieve economic cooperation. It has since worked for the
free movement of labor and capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint
and reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade. Over the

The Euro is the newly created currency of the European Economic Community, a currency that
became legal tender on January 1, 1999. By 2002, euro notes and coins will replace the Austrian
schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc, German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira,
Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese escudo, and Spanish peseta. These 11 nations will
share a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy.
Currencies not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent
way of expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve
as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for
indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC
(European Economic Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason.
The political arguments are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which
was formed after WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This
could perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by
war twice in the last century. The Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the
relatively poor performance of the European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe

Life is complex and there is still an abundance of knowledge we have yet to gather about it. We
know where it originated and what has evolved from it. From the knowledge we gather about
the world around us, we can develop a sense of self and who we are as a person. As soon as we
know who we are, we then begin to acknowledge that there are people around us that we relate
closely to by blood or by choice; family. Our family can be the people we eat with around the
dinner table or the people who remain by our side through the hardships and the good times. The
feelings we encompass for these people around us may be everlasting love, but it can also be
animosity. We can appreciate these people and all they do for us, or despise their every being. As
a result of the hatred we may embody toward someone, we may act out. Maybe by using verbal
abuse, and maybe with physical abuse. Some of the best ways to help children cope with the mental
and physical abuse from their childhood would be to encourage them to discuss the events and

Tremblay then moves on to say, that U.S Department of Commerce would like to deregulate the
communications industry and how horrible this would be for Canada . He points out that once
this happens the U.S will pressure Canada to do the same. Yet, he seems to forget that Canada is a
sovereign nation that does not have to give in to U.S pressure. Canada sets its own policies without
being influenced by others. It has and will always be this way. Quebec is already officially
recognized as distinct, it is entrenched in the constitution. Simply put, it does not get any better

television. Tremblay believes that the policies that are currently in place were only put in

Robinson decided to name the drink Coca Cola because, when it was first made the drink did

22. Giovanni s Proliferation At Home
One strategy that I would recommend to his caretakers at home is the use of timeouts. As shown in
McIntyre s website, http://behavioradvisor.com/ParentStrategies.html, time out is a removal of the
individual from a rewarding situation and placing them in a secluded part of the household.
Giovanni s frustration in the household is not seen as a problem, but as behaviorthat children
display in their youth. Based on my conversation with the student, the caretaker s response his
frustration is to give him video games and toys, which helps him calm down. The behavior may
stop for a moment, but then it resurfaces when he is asked to do homework. His aggression and
violent behaviors should not be rewarded, but replaced with more positive ones. Time... Show more

Giovanni may feel like the only way to get attention is by acting out. Often times, parents and
teachers can forget to acknowledge the good decisions that students make and notice the bad ones.
This chapter would be very useful to Giovanni, as it could enhance the relationship between his
mother and grandmother. For example, when Giovanni receives a good grade on an exam he can
tell them about it. By following this tip, he can take pride in his accomplishments and make fewer
wrong decisions. In order to be successful in school, students must be equipped with good academic
behaviors. Some examples of good academic behaviors include persisting through tough tasks and
handing in homework assignments in a timely manner. In order to do so, both the parent and the
student must work together to implement a schedule for work and playtime. By following this
strategy, it meets the demands of both the parents and the teacher. After he finishes his homework,
he is allowed to play his videogames for a certain amount of time, such as

23. Smoking Meat In Early America
Smoking meat was also a way of preserving it. To smoke meat it was first salted or soaked in brine
and then hung in a smoke house to slowly dry. The smoke house required a smoky fire under the
meat for days to weeks. Smoking meat took time and care to do. Potting was another storage form
that allowed meat to be stored for a year. Meat from a cow or pig would be put into a big kettle and
boiled over a fire while the fat would be melted in a spider, a skillet with skinny legs that was used
over fire. The fat was melted in the spider until it became a liquid. The meat, once boiled for
hours, was cooled and then placed in a crock. The liquid fat was poured over the meat until it
covered all parts and was about two inches thick. The fat served as... Show more content on

Planting, gathering, hunting, and preparing food took a large part of the colonists day. The need for
the colonists to make and use special kitchen tools and adapt to using natural food sources
available and learn to store them for winter was imperative to their survival. Knowing how the
colonists were able to use the things they had explains many of the foods we still eat today and
how we prepare them. The equipment used, like the lug pole which the colonist improved upon
and made an iron swing arm, is an example of the colonists adapting to the new world. The design
of the pots and kettles with legs to help cook the food without burning was also important. To make
cooking safer they also had long handles on pots and kettles. Finding fresh ingredients and crops
that they could renew was a necessary part of the colonists survival as well. To figure out what
was edible and how to prepare it, the colonists looked to the Native Americans. The colonial cook
had to substitute many ingredients like wheat flour with corn flour, and learn new ingredients like
corn, pumpkin, beans, and cranberries. Having these fruits and vegetables fresh was great, but to
survive the colonists needed to preserve and store food for the winters. They once again looked to
the Native Americans for advice. Many different techniques were used including drying, salting,
brining, potting, and jellying. America of today and American foods like corn, popcorn,
cornbread, baked beans, cranberry juice, and pumpkin pie are all handed down to us thanks to the
Native Americans and the early colonists. In order to survive the colonists had to adapt to new
cooking equipment, use new or available ingredients, and learn new ways of storing these

25. Entire Sanctification Definition
Man was created in the image of God, imago Dei. Man was created for love and to love God.
Man knew truth and happiness. God did/does not want to force us into relationship and so He
gave us free will. Adam and Eve exercised this free will in the garden and they fell from grace;
the fall. Adam rejected the moral law that has three uses (to show sin in the world; to bring man
to Christ; to keep man alive). The moral law is right and good concerning all things. The moral
law shows us that we must keep close to Christ and we will keep close to the law. It is in Christ
that we find freedom from the law. Wesley instructs that believers must keep the moral law to
grow deeper in God s grace. Adam also rejected the presence of God. In this place man... Show

We are babies, born again, and as we mature in faith we move closer to the likeness of Christ.
Assurance to Wesley was the belief that man could know they were saved. Wesley did not use
the word conversion a lot. It is when a person goes from being a child of the world to a child of
God. This occurs due to a person s response to prevenient grace. Once a person realizes they are
in need of God and have sin in their lives they are led to repentance. At this moment the person is
justified. This is evident when regeneration occurs and the person is born again. All of this is a gift
from God. This all begins the process of sanctification. A person then is aware of sin in their lives
and the battle it brings and wants to continue to be in the peace of God that comes at justification.
Repentance and the works suitable for repentance fills the person s life. It is the acts that causes the
person to know they need Christ. Being in a regenerated state, a complete renewal of the inside, the
person moves into being an Altogether Christian, totally committed to God and relationship with
Him. The Spirit of Adoption is present in the life of the person. Praise the

Suppression of Women in The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, tells the story of a woman s descent into
madness as a result of the rest and ignore the problem cure that is frequently prescribed to cure
hysteria and nervous conditions in women. More importantly, the story is about control and attacks
the role of women in society. The narrator of the story is symbolic for all women in the late 1800s,
a prisoner of a confining society. Women are expected to bear children, keep house and do only as
they are told. Since men are privileged enough to have education, they hold jobs and make all the
decisions. Thus, women are cast into the prison of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the narrator thinks otherwise:
Personally, I disagree with their ideas.
Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good.
But what is one to do? (2)
Clearly, the narrator thinks that a life void of any work or excitement will not be helpful or aid
her on the road to recovery. The question she asks herself at the end of this paragraph, however,
exemplifies her oppressed stature in society. She asks herself not once, not twice, but three
times what someone in her position is to do: And what can one do? (1), What is one to do? (1),
But what is one to do? (1). Repetition of these questions demonstrates that the narrator cannot do
anything to change her life because her husband society controls what she can and cannot do.
The narrator s writing also falls under this category because writing is looked down upon in
society as a profession for women. Because of society s oppressive nature, the narrator is unable
to write in the presence of other people, especially John and Jennie, his sister, who are great

Usually in my life I will experience a few negative emotions and thoughts and then briefly affirm
that what I am believing is untrue and then switch my mind to something different. I also have
journals that I will write in every once in a while, but it isn t something I use for overcoming
negative emotions. Coming from a conservative, religious family I have always heard that
meditation is bad. While Neff practices Buddhist meditation and uses some of these ideas in her
programs to teach self compassion, after listening to one of the meditation podcasts, I can see the
benefit. The meditation practices she developed helps one relax, become more self aware, and
focused on thoughts of love and compassion not only towards oneself but also towards others.
Another aspect that I had not taken into consideration is the difference between self compassion
and self esteem. As Neff explains, self esteem is basically one s perceived value and worth;
however, it is contingent on how one is compared to another. I have never looked at self esteem
being a problematic, negative term, now I understand the aspects of it that can be detrimental to
ones well being. Always striving to have high self esteem leads us to put other people down in
the process, it also insinuates that we have to be perfect and better to be worthy, which is the
opposite of what Neff s concept of self compassion entails. Our society thrives on the idea that one
has to be better than their counterpart, what we lack is this idea of self compassion. Therefore, I
think it would be very beneficial to teach self compassion in children; this may lead to an overall
more compassionate generation that flourishes on how we can help each other and ourselves

Wireless Area Networks
Wireless technology has become an increasingly crucial part of today s world. From health care
and retail to academia across the world, wireless systems are improving the rate and ease with
which data is sent and received. Two specific examples of the wireless technology used today
personally and professionally are local area networks (LAN) and personal area networks (PAN).
A wireless local area network, or LAN is a flexible data communications system implemented as
an augmentation to, or an alternative for a, wired local area network. These networks rely on
electromagnetic airwaves to transmit and receive over a defined area, usually a few hundred feet.

The key to making this possible is variation of frequencies. As long as concurrent frequencies are
no being broadcasted in a given area, it is possible to have any number of radio transmissions
taking place at a given time. One might ask with countless number of transmissions that could be
occurring at a given time how is it possible to focus on just one stream of data? The answer again
is achieved through radio frequency characteristics. Once data has been encoded into a given radio
carrier, all one has to do to extract the information is have a receiver tuned into one specific
frequency, while rejecting all others. These receiving and transmitting nodes are known as access
points. In typical wireless LAN settings, these access points are in the form of small rectangular
transmitting stations. Receiving access points, or LAN adapters, defined using 802.11EE coding,
are implemented as PC cards in notebooks, palm pilots, and desktops, or as additional access
points that serve to extend the area of the network. These adapters provide an interface between the
network operating system and the radio waves. (Rho Wireless/ Home Networking and Internet

Because wireless technology has its roots in military applications, all wireless systems contain
varying degrees of security for their users. More often then not each individual network with have a

As if Sykes hoped, prayed for the fight, he kicked all the clothes together and stepped on the
whitest piles of things. One could think that doing these things brought to Sykes some relieves
and satisfaction when he saw Delia s pain and suffer. The difference about this confrontation
though, was that Sykes did not strike Delia, as what usually happens. Delia picked up a metal
skillet and threatened to defend herself from her husband as he cowed in fear of being hit. This
new approach from Delia, involving a new intimidation, shows how her unnecessary sweat and
hard work had gotten to be too much. The act of seizing a skillet from the stove to protect herself
symbolizes how in essence, Delia is trying to defend her home. The skillet is a fragment of the
house, and as she stands in her shielding stance, she is using her home to protect her home.
As the story flew, you could now understand why Hurston chose a title sweat . It was the reason
to make the woman, Delia, stood up and fight for herself as she was shouting helplessly in the
fight with Sykes: Looka heah, Sykes, you done gone too fur. Ah been married to you fifteen years,

Summary of Tense Present Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage Published in April of
2001 by Harper s Magazine, David Foster Wallace s essay is both a review of A Dictionary of
Modern Usage by Bryan A. Garner and an interjection into the present day Usage Wars. Wallace
s thesis for his essay is stated after a list of grammatical errors that are overlooked on a daily

egalitarianism in U.S. English are at root political issues and can be effectively addressed only in
what this article hereby terms a Democratic Spirit. A Democratic Spirit is an attitude a person can

35. Hebrew Bible Identity
The origin of the Hebrew Bible is unknown, but scholars believe the earliest collections of
writings first five books date back to nearly 3,500 years ago. The Pentateuch consist of these first
five books. The Old Testament, which it is also known as, influenced its time period and still
continues to do so today. The exile of the Judean people led their scholars to preserve their cultural
identity through the Hebrew Bibles usage of chiasm, repetition, and kinesthetic imagery. Each
literary device was designed so the audience could memorize the details and elite could easily
pass down the stories orally. In a society where only the professional elite read and wrote, The
Bible was written down in a series of years by a serious of these elites. It is believed to be written
after the Babylonian Captivity. The Judean people were first exiled to Babylon, and forced to
assimilate into a society with a whole other creation myth. The people of Judah were uprooted
from their homes and forced to a new land, Babylon. However, the exile ended at approximately
538 BCE when Cyrus The Great conquered Persia and released the Jews back to Palestine. Upon
return, scholars believe the first words of The Bible were written. The first words were written
because in times of grief and despair, religious growth follows. So, when the Jews from Babylon
returned home, a sense of spiritual renewal occurred which forced the hands of scribes to document
their faith, (Barton 369).

Angle of attack= which is more effective, treatment or punishment?
A significant question that is asked about offenders is how can they be prevented from re

order to change offending behaviour. Three main ones are; behaviour modification (token
economies), anger management and social skills training (SST). The government have also added
measurements such as zero tolerance and imprisonment is put in place in order to stop reoffenders.

Therefore all effects of this treatment will be forgotten meaning being punished for behaviour may
be more effective in the outside world and in an institution.
Social skills training is a cognitive behavioural treatment based on the assumption that offending
is related to deficits in social skills. Techniques used in SST often vary but most involve
modelling and role play alongside instruction in skills and feedback on performance. There is a
number of studies that suggest SST leads to improvement in targeted social skills but what is
less clear is whether the improvements remain in the long term. Spence and Marzillier found
that effects are visible after three months but disappear after six and Goldstein et al found that
only 15 20% of offenders applied their skills to other situations. I feel that SST is not effective in
terms of stopping people from re offending but it is a way of helping people cope with their
emotions which more than just prisoners need to be able to do. Once someone is in a violent
situation they are not going to take time to remember and apply skills they have been taught they
will act on instinct which more than likely means the wrong actions will be carried out meaning
they will be re offending so in this case

5th Amendment The 5th Amendment in the Bill of Rights guarantees protection from self
incrimination. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause
issues, such as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right
remain silent; whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would
have no right to assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of
self incrimination could be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial
interrogation would, in many circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any,

of guilt from a defendant s failure to testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is

composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto
Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two hours when he confessed that
he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was not aware that he was
allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right to remain silent. He

head coach of Stanford, where he achieves a 13 3 season and gets the attention of Eddie DeBartolo
and the 49ers. With the San Francisco 49ers, Walsh made a major impact to the players, coaches,
and organization. From 1976 to 1978 the 49ers were in the worst possible situation any
professional team can face in sports. They were considered the worst team in sports, not just
football. Bill Walsh knew something needed to be done in order to not only keep his job but also
save a whole franchise. In his autobiography, Walsh would write and exhaust his idea that his prime
directive was the full and total implementation throughout the organization of the actions and
attitudes of the standards of performance (The Score Takes Care of Itself). Walsh wanted full and
total control of the whole organization. No other head coach had done this; no other person, except
the owner, has full control of the organization. It was soon realized; the San Francisco

43. Bitter Front Lines
A bitter coldness whips around your face in the harshness of the battered war. A snap of wind
turning your already paled and dirt splattered face a frozen, cold red. Battered men bid to live on
to the next battle.Vital blood that once was contained in a soldier s body, now lingers, dryly
splattered across your dull green colored uniform. Smiles of your once alive brother drills itself
into your head. Their memory hitches onto your brain like a remora catching a ride with a shark.
A fog invades the once clear pale blue skies. Blood stricken bodies that lay above the Earth s core
seep into the sky. Men cry over their partners or slip away into the night, attempting to hide the
ghastly liquid that spills over from their eyes. The only food provided... Show more content on

Their only reminiscence being the I.D numbers of their self made dog tags. People say that they
have died an honorable death, but nobody can choose to say or dissect whether they had
perished from the appalling deathly gases, or from an enemy along the front. Families are
forced to live on a somewhat normal life, apart from their noble brethren. Against the bitter front
lines, men hold onto their rifles like it is the only thing left in their life. Their boots slosh and
stick against the broken down earth: mud. Eyes are drained of life, their sockets deepening and
sinking into their face as if they were the living dead. Some men get the blessed time of sleep, a
holy pull into the deep and sugar coated dreams. Life amongst the trenches is no easy task.
Walking alone being hard for you, as you walk along the lines of the same old, long and narrow
lines of the trench. Your feet become frozen and numb, servant to any pain that comes across.
Not only do the men screech and yelp from the damage of a bullet, they cry out in agony due to
the decapitation of feet from the horrid trench foot. Men make their own fate, trying to ignore the
fact that the next day may be their last. The choice being theirs, whether or not they decide to live
on with a legacy of bravery or a story of their

45. Narcissistic Stereotypes
The youngest generation obsesses over gaining approval in a way unprecedented by the past. This
obsession stems from the increase of narcissistic attitudes found in children, including
overconfidence, a deep need for admiration, and a lack of empathy (Mayo Clinic Staff). The
skyrocketing growth of social networking and the increase in the prevalence of superficial
celebrities shown in the media only enhances narcissistic behaviors. However, these attitudes are
initially caused by the actions of parents. An occurring shift in parenting styles centers around
rewarding kids even when the child s amount of effort does not warrant praise. This type of award
system fosters narcissistic attitudes that affect how kids interact with their surroundings,... Show

The biggest influence of personality are childhood experiences and the way in which parents choose
to raise their kids. The shift in parenting styles contributes to the growing levels of narcissistic
attitudes presented in the youngest generation. Because of the shift in values, the media evolved to
highlight vain celebrities instead of focusing on the successes of brilliant, hard working people.
Social media takes away the emotional involvement in relationships and replaces those feelings
with shallow gratification that causes people to grow an unhealthy attachment to the social
network. Nothing can replace the convenience of social media, but if society changes the way it
views online relationships then the focus will shift from having online relationships to improving
interpersonal communication. Narcissism is a problem that can be fixed with healthy role models
and a positive, unselfish outlook that starts with how parents treat their children s successes and

46. Military Decision Making Process ( Mdmp )
Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) SGT Alexander, Joseph Non commission Officers
Academy Senior Leader Course ALC 166 16 Phase 1 dL Abstract The historical process of
creating and implementation of the Military Decision Making Process has changed significantly
since World War I. The US Army did not have a published staff doctrine or guidance to assist
commanders in the decision making process. The Regulations for Field Maneuvers (1910), did
not provide staff guidance. In 1914, the field service regulation (FSR) identified the need for
decision making processes. The Staff Officer Field Manual (1932), complied principles, data, and
information that was intended to guide the operations of staff of all units and territorial commands.
The Staff Officer Field Manual (1932), was a detailed manual that explained staff functions and
more complete commander estimates of implementation time. Introduction The Military Decision
Making Process (MDMP) is a repeating plan of procedures used to understand the situation and
mission. The MDMP is used to develop a course of action and produce an operation plan or order.
The MDMP integrates the commander, staff, subordinate, headquarters personnel, and other
stakeholders involved in the planning process. We need the MDMP because it allows the leader to
execute orders and planning decisions. The MDMP aids in the collaboration and planning with the
higher headquarters. The higher headquarters

47. Jack London Research Paper
Jack London is a novelist, journalist, social activist and he wrote a incredible quote. I would
rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent
planet. This quote means that he would rather be a person that does stuff and takes risks than a
boring person that does nothing and lives long. This statement relates to extreme sports because
extreme sports is about risk taking and not sitting around doing nothing with your life. If there
was something between superb meteor and the planet I would be that because there s a limit of
how many risks you can take before you die. Risks can help you get through life by getting a good
job or risk dropping out of college to get on a sports team. Either way

48. Analysis Of Mark Twain s Advice To Youth
In Mark Twain s, Advice to Youth, Twain educates the younger generations by providing his
viewpoint of how people of their age should conduct themselves ranging from simple words of
wisdom to instructions on how to interact with others in order to sculpt a generation more
knowledgeable and intelligent than his own. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt wrote, Joint
Address to Congress Leading to a Declaration of War Against Japan, he announced that resulting
from provocations from Japan, it was mandatory that the United Statesof America retaliated by
engaging in a war against Japan in order to protect the American citizens. In her essay titled, A
New Egalitarian Life Style, Gloria Steinem insists that women and black citizens have been
treated inadequately starting from when the patriarchy began to reign in order to urge people to
strive for equality across the board. However, in Of the Coming of John by W.E.B. Du Bois, the
author relates an experience of a black man who had received higher education and as a result
could no longer live in complacency with his lower status in society in order to urge the African
Americans of the time period to go to college and receive education themselves.
This quote appears within the introductory section of the novel when Lane, one of the central
characters, must move to a hospital that doubles as a boarding school to receive treatment for his
drug resistant case of tuberculosis. He had just seen Sadie, a girl who he used to go

49. Jackie s Relationship With A Calm-Natured Priest
Why does fear derails a person s chances of going to confession? The sacrament of
Reconciliation is one sacrament that a lot of people have mixed feelings over. Some look at it
as going to the Doctor, while others simply avoid going. This happens due to fear. The fear of
treated badly by a Priest or knowing these sins will be repeated again. For Jackie, the former one
is what drives him to avoid confession, yet he doesn t. Jackie s strained relationship with his
Grandma and Sister coupled with a calm natured Priest makes his visit to confession different than
what he had in mind.
Throughout the story, Jackie realizes that confession is not horrific, but instead an event that gives
him a piece of mind. He has never been to confession ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He acts as Jackie s only ally who could compassionate with his fear of confession. Their first
meeting doesn t go very well since Jackie mixes up the boxes, but everything gets settled down
eventually. Jackie s honesty plays a significant role in this relationship. He confesses about his
intentions of murdering Grandma and Nora with no hesitation. He doesn t try to bend the story
to make the priest feels sorry for him. Of course, the priest is shocked at first. However, he then
realizes Jackie s honesty and sincerity, which are crucial points that enable the priest to
understand his unfortunate situation truly. After the confession, Jackie says: I was genuinely
sorry to part with him because he was the most entertaining character I d ever met in the
religious line. (O Connor, 1951) He doesn t expect such a religious figure to understand his dark
secrets. The priest even partly agrees with Jackie about Nora when he says: Someone will go for
her with a bread knife one day, and he won t miss her. (O Connor, 1951) In the end, the priest
gives Jackie the three Hail Marys, which signify compassionate and forgiving. In related to the
second quote of the first paragraph, Jackie wouldn t be free of fear if the conversation with the
priest wasn t a positive one. In short, finding a person who could understand you would be

Texting shortcuts no threat to children s developing language skills, study finds This article from
The Mercury investigates a study conducted in collaboration with researchers in England and
Tasmania. The study examines the relationship between the use of texting language and language
skills in young students. There has been a general consensus that the overuse of electronic devices
must impair the language ability. However the research found no negative relationship between
formal writing skills and the use of textisms . Furthermore the study suggests that texting can
actually have a positive effect. The article suggests that the reason this study reached conclusions
that differ from previous studies was that this was the first time students were followed up on their
formal test results a year later . Topic 1: Research methods The procedure of the study was
comprised of three components. Firstly, participants were asked to complete a questionnaire in
order to collect data about the participant s texting habits and their demographic information (De
Jonge Kemp, 2012). Next participants were instructed to translate Standard English sentences from
two lists into texting language; one list was typed into their phone and the other was written on
paper (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). Finally the participants were instructed to complete a literacy test in
order to collect data on their language, reading and spelling skills (De Jonge Kemp, 2012). A
general trend showed that

51. National Football League Vs National Basketball Association
The National Football League and the National Basketball Association are very alike but
different in their own ways. Although both the leagues have contracts, a salary cap, and revenue
sharing they are both very different. Both leagues have a championship game game where they
score high ratings because of their high market players. Curry and Lebron playing against each
other in the NBA finals last year generated ratings up to 19.94 million viewers the most all time
other than the 1998 Jordan s Bulls finals. Brady and Wilson playing against each other in the
super bowl generated ratings up to 112 million dollars the most all time. This shows the both
sports are big but are different. While both are wildly successful major sports leagues, they are

The NFL handles its contracts based on the team. They offer larger contracts ut end up not
paying all the money to the player. The NFL only pays players what they have earned. If a
player is offer 100 million dollars to play for a team, and the player only plays for 2 years, the
player would only receive 44 million dollars. The NBA guarantees all the money in the contract.
NBA players tend to have longer careers and less injuries than NFL players so teams are willing to
offer guaranteed contracts to their players. NBA teams don t offer the same amount of money to its
players but end up paying around the same amount of money has NFL teams do with guaranteed
contracts. NBA
