Before I really get into my personal experience at the...
Before I really get into my personal experience at the Durga temple, I would like to begin my
experience paper by throwing a light on my religion. I personally belong to a Muslim family and have
practiced Islam throughout my life. Islam is one of the monotheistic religions, which means people
only believe in one God usually referred as Allah. All the individuals, including me, believe that
everything in this world has been created by all mighty Allah. He has the power and authority of
diminishing and raising thing. Islam is based on its five pillars; Namaz (prayer), Roza (fasting), Hajj
(pilgrimage), Zakat (Give away), and Jahad (struggle in way of Islam). In contrast Hinduism has many
different deities and all of them have a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went to the temple in the afternoon, because the timing for the Hanuman pooja was seven o clock
pm. When I arrived at the temple I was shocked just by looking at the lights. The whole temple was
surrounded by the colorful lights, which made me feel like that I am in another world. As I walked
closer to the temple I saw the sign of swastika on the security gates of the temple. I asked the purpose
of this sign from a person who was standing outside the temple, he said, this symbol stand for good
fortune, luck, and well being . As I moved forward I noticed that there is a huge bell hanging from the
roof of the temple, as the people were walking upstairs they were ringing the bell. I did the same thing
as the other people were doing, just to make sure that they do not fell any kind of disrespect. I have
always seen those kinds of bells either in the movies or dramas, but not in real life.
After enjoying all this, finally I got a chance to go inside the temple. When I entered the temple there
were two installs, one on my left the other one on my right side. On this stands there was all the stuff
available that a person need to perform a pooja. Hinds call this concept as samagri . The incremental s
that were present on the table consists of metal plate, flowers, coconut, cloth, and leaves. As I moved
further I saw the sign, which was indicating the direction of the main hall. On top of the door of the

The Oil And Natural Gas
Everyday oil and natural gas is being found in new areas and being sought after by companies who
want to drill for and use those resources. More often than not these resources are under land already
owned by someone else so the companies must come to an agreement with the landowner in order to
get permission to drill for the oil and natural gas. Oil and gas are valuable commodities for
landowners and can mean an extra income. Instead of selling the land and completely giving up their
stake in the potential fortune most owners decide to negotiate a lease with the company in which both
parties benefit from the resources.
Just because someone owns a piece of land does not mean he or she has the right to set up a lease for
the drilling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A landman (or woman) is a person whose job it is to secure leases on as large an area as possible and
they are either employed by oil and gas companies or work independently. Because these men and
women are professionals and are trained in the art of making sells using all possible tactics, it is
usually advised that landowners seek an attorney or some type of professional to assist in the
negotiations.
A lease in this context is a legal document or contract between a landowner who is the lessor and a
company (or individual) who is the lessee that grants the lessee rights to exploration and development
rights to potential subsurface mineral commodities. Today there is no standard oil and gas lease form.
At one point the Producers 88 form was considered the standard form but today various oil and gas
companies utilized several different types of lease forms as their starting point for negotiations.
Generally their are two broad types of oil and gas lease forms based on the timing of the lease bonus
payments. The most commonly used type is the Pay Up lease which no bonus payments are due after
the signing of the lease, instead the lessor gets one hundred percent of the lease bonus money
combined with annual rental payments up front. The other type is the Rental Lease that is not as
commonly used in which the lease, can lapse if the rentals are not paid in a timely manner by the
company which would ultimately result in the termination of

Effects of poverty
The Effects Of Poverty ,
WRIT 300
October 15, 2012
Poverty is an enigma that seems to plague each corner of the United States. No matter how rich how
stabilize or how strong our country may claim it is poverty lurks in shadow of all places on this earth
and in it s silhouette the opprobrious effects. The three scholarly articles I summarized connect the
dots on how poverty impacts the United States economically; and socially. The first articles I
summarized Haiyun Zhao, Zhilan Feng, Carlos Castillo havez, (2008) conducted an study that
examines the effects that poverty has on our society economically, and the effects it has on children
growing up in poor areas. Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) starts out by shedding light on ... Show more

For this reason, they combine this finding with the others such as foregone earnings, crime, and health
which concluded that people living in poverty cost America an astonishing 38 percent of the GDP.
Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) ends their research by stating that the estimations of poverties effects and
cost are understated and most likely are more severe and costly. This article brought up important
points and backed them up with facts; however I do think they could have done a better job on
breaking down the cost structure, for the 700 billion figure given. The work done by Zhao, Feng,
Havez (2008) detailed some of the effects of poverty. However, there should have been more emphasis
on the social impacts of poverty. This is where Mulia and Zemore (2012) excel at. Mulia and Zemore
(2012) reviewed and discussed social adversity; drugs and how it impacts people living in poor areas.
Mulia and Zemore (2012) talks about how people living in low income areas are affected by more
situations, oppose to others in high income areas. In particular, Mulia and Zemore (2012) lean towards
the theory of social strain, which points to poverty being the reason for drug abuse among other
crimes. Comparing Mulia and Zemore (2012) work to Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) the article picks up
the improves where the previous lacked at by providing a theory that supports their study, of overall

Ethics And Social Psychology Research
Ethics are a fundamentally crucial topic in social psychology research. Ethics encompass essential
guidelines and codes of conduct that is taken into consideration before carrying out research. Although
undergraduate and graduate curriculum in psychology acquaints students with the basic nature of
ethical considerations and codes of conduct in research, however, it is likely that some of the most
famous experiments in social psychology such as experiment by Stanley Milgram on Behavioral
Study of Obedience exemplify ethical misconduct. However, with the publishing of the first American
Psychological Association Code of Ethics (APA, 2010), controversial and unethical experiments such
as the Stanley Milgram Obedience Experiment have been scrutinized. Also, the appropriate regulatory
body such as APA for psychological experiment provides guidelines and enforce appropriate ways of
conducting research and practicing the different aspects of the psychological profession in retrospect
to ethics.
However, psychological research remain predispose to controversial experimental techniques and
designs due to the manner in which the research questions are formulated ( ). Hence, in forming a
research question and recruiting human subject, it is critical that I abide by the set of mandatory codes
of conduct of either those of my university board or, later in my career, those of the APA I belong to in
my professional obligation. According to APA (2010), mandatory Ethical standards exists

Symbolism In Night By Elie Wiesel

Ms. Scannell
English II
9/28/2017
Analysis of Night Elie Wiesel went through some dark times, as a result he uses symbols to describe
these trying times. A literary symbol is used to unite an image and an idea to evoke thought. In the
book Night by Elie Wiesel, night, fire, and silence are used as symbols to describe the darkness of his
history. In this article i intend to analyse how night is used to show the darkness of humanity in this
time period throughout the novel, how fire represented that they were in hell, and how silence is used
to show the loss of faith and fear. The biggest symbol used in the novel is night it s even used as the
title to hint towards the story s darkness. Wiesel uses the word night to show death, darkness, and a
world without God. Throughout the book there were many last nights ; for example, the last night in
Sighet, the last night with his father, and even the last night of innocence. The worst suffering in the
book happens at night, the train ride to the concentration camp was his last night of freedom before
they got there, the first selection was at 9 o clock, when winter came Eliezer said it was unbearable,
and they left the camp on the death march during the night. Eliezer said when they left on the death

Grace Spottswood, 1 30 15, Watermelon Lupus: Imagine skiing down the slopes and watching all of
the happy people enjoying their ski trip, and wondering, why do I feel so sick? Imagine going to
countless doctors appointments, and being treated for anxiety and facial migraines. No one believes
your symptoms are real, but you know something isn t right. After five years of suffering, you are
finally diagnosed with an incurable disease. Somehow you feel relief. This mystery disease is called
lupus, an autoimmune disease which makes the body unable to tell healthy tissue from unhealthy
tissue. The body then attacks the healthy tissue to get rid of what it believes is unhealthy tissue, this
mistake causes the body to inflict pain on itself. No new drug to treat lupus has been created in 50
years, yet 2 million people in America, and 5 million people worldwide are suffering from this disease
( Lupus: Causes, diagnosis, symptoms and treatment ). I believe that more research should be done to

Depending on your specific case of lupus, lifestyle changes just may be enough to control your
symptoms. Doctors suggest exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking. If
lifestyle changes aren t helpful for your case of lupus, medicines can be prescribed by your doctor to
depress your symptoms. However no magic medicine will rid your body completely of this disease.
Today, a new drug called Belimumab is in a clinical trial to treat lupus. It needs the approval of the
FDA for release to the wide population of lupus patients. If this drug is approved, it will be the first
new drug on the market to treat lupus in fifty years. Hopefully, since some research on lupus is being
done, more medicines will be found, and more people

Essay about How Napoleon Maintains Control in France...
How Napoleon Maintains Control in France 1799 1814
After the long period of instability in France, Napoleon seemed to acknowledge the importance of
maintaining his power, influence and control over France and the French people. Napoleon was very
able in this regard as it is important to make the people to support you and to limit opposition,
something that Napoleon and Hitler shared in common. Napoleon maintained his power in many
different ways, rewarding people that supported him, repressing people who didn t, censoring material
that would harm his regime and producing other material to boost its popularity. He also controlled
things which were important for everyday people like religion, ... Show more content on

The next way that Napoleon maintained his control was through Repression, to limit any opposition to
his regime. Napoleon created Code Napoleon to bring uniformity of the law to all of France. This
Code was illiberal, restrictive, authoritarian and brought order. Napoleon then banned trade unions and
introduced The Livret . He also introduced harsher Criminal and Penal codes with new courts,
tribunals for political offenders, arbitrary imprisonment without trial and house arrest. All these
changes gave Napoleon perfect power to remove any opposition, as he had influence of appointment
of judges and the Supreme Court. Napoleon also used the police, which monitored public opinion,
used a network of spies and informants. Napoleon also had his own secret police so that he had
supreme power to remove anyone at all that stood against him. Napoleon also appointed Prefects for
each department which was important as it made a connection between local and central government
and Napoleon made the prefects responsible for propaganda, education and conscription within each
region, so Napoleon could make sure that he kept his support through out France. This repression was
important as Napoleon could prevent any opposition from developing which may threaten his regime,
as many normal people wont do anything if there is no organised opposition to turn

Kennedy had many accomplishments during his short presidency. One of these accomplishments was
in regards to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a lead role in figuring out how to settle this with the
Soviet Union. He also abolished the federal death penalty in 1962. He initiated Project Apollo which
ended up accomplishing landing the first humans on the moon between 1969 1972!
Lastly, he played a large part in stopping racism and segregation. He showed a lot of love and sincerity
with this and the American people appreciated and admired him for that. He highly disagreed with
segregation and focused on civil rights towards the end of his election. On June 11th, 1963, he
delivered a televised speech stating his beliefs and presented a proposal for a new bill to be passed.
This bill would later be called the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
On November 22nd, 1963, President Kennedy had traveled to Dallas, Texas to participate in a
motorcade that was traveling to Dealy Plaza. He was sitting with his wife, Jacqueline on the back of a
convertible followed by his Vice President, Lyndon Johnson behind him. While he passed the Texas
School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald set up a sniper post on the 6th story of the building.
Oswald allegedly fired three shots at Kennedy, one missing him and two striking him in the neck and
head. Sadly, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy passed away from his gunshot wounds and his Vice
President, Lyndon Johnson was sworn into office right away.

Included in the feud are Serbian engineer Nikola Tesla. He immigrated to the USA in 1884 where he

skeletal allows the muscles attached to the leg bones and help the legs move together. So by me

accomplishing amazing tasks in their life. In some cases, people who avoid the anxiety end up
experiencing some sort of sadness. In a short essay, called Anxiety: Challenge by Another Name by
James Lincoln Collier, the author explains what causes these anxieties, and how to overcome them.
Overall, the essay is extremely relatable to many readers, including myself. Collier does a wonderful
job at relating his point to his readers. The explanation of the anxiety and depression that he had

Felipe Guaman De Ayala s Drawings and the Wider Purpose...
Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala was an ethnic Andean, deeply inspired by the injustice of the colonial
regime, he wrote a massive manuscript in 1615 about the history of the Inca Empire to the King of
Spain. His masterpiece includes 1,200 pages, of which 398 were images full of details, that are clearly
considered by the artist to be the most direct and effective way of communicating his ideas to the
audience. Felipe de Ayala focused on the conflicts between the settlers and the natives to reveal, in his
powerful drawings, his wider purpose of a desire for a colonial reformation that will bring stability
and justice to the Andean people. Two major reasons that motivated Ayala to write the manuscript are
broadly seen in his drawings: the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This incident was a major motivation for Guaman Poma to write the manuscript and change his
believes in the Church, because he felt no support from the colonial regime. Before being convicted,
Guaman Poma was serving and protecting the Church as an interpreter of a visitador or inspector
named Cristobal de Albornoz. He helped to identify and capture practitioners of native religion during
the first campaigns to stop idolatry. He gives proof of this fact, by picturing Albornoz supervising the
punishment of a native Andean (Figure 1). The Andean has an image, of himself playing with the
devil, on top of his head, which represents idolization. He shows his fear towards the Spaniards by
being in a state of shock and crying as if he is innocent. The other Andean that is getting instructions
from the priest is a member of the inspection team. He seems very determined and supportive of the
Church and feels no sorrow for punishing the native. Guaman Poma approved the fight against
idolatry because in his drawings, the Andean inspectors always fight against their own tradition and
religion by protecting the Church. Another important issue that Guaman Poma supported is
evangelization of the Andean people. His vivid drawings and issues suggest that he pressed on the
need of evangelization (Figure 2). For example in this figure, an Andean woman is terrified by these
animals and forced to become a Christian. Her fear is

Miller And Liz Aldermen Analysis
I think all women should have a choice in anything they do. The choice between having a career,
family or both is a discussion they should not take lightly and weigh all their options. They should
also take everyone in account, including the children. Women also have to be careful not to be caught
up in the superwomen syndrome. This is when career women scrambling to run two lives one at home
and one at work. They want to be good wives and mothers, but they also want to be intellectually
stimulated by a challenging career or at least bring in a second income to help their households get by.
In the New York Post article Why U.S. Women are leaving their jobs behind Clair Cain Miller and Liz

Why Do We Need Crime Statistics
Across the country there are cities that range from millions of residents to thousands. There are also
some towns that have a couple hundred barely enough to be called a town. When you look at crime
you think of these places and wonder where there could possibly be more crime. In a city a lot of
crime is normal do to the population but in a small town with smaller population you won t see that.
The amount of crime reported and processed in a place are the crime statistics and it can vary
depending on the situation. Crime statistics can be taken in two ways (boundless.com). One way it can
be taken is crime reports and surveys. Surveys are super important because it can show that people
who had a crime happen to them didn t call in or report the crime. A crime that is not reported to the
police is a dark figure of crime (Schmalleger, Frank). These are super important and are sometimes
found out about in only surveys. Imagine how many more crime statistics there would be if the dark
figures of crime were reported and how many more criminals we could stop. Crime control helps keep
order in cities. The crime statistics are taken in two major ways. collecting crime data are law
enforcement reports and victimization statistical surveys (Boundless.com) In a big city where more
crime happens more law enforcemt will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

order. The main reason for this again is because if the amount of crime goes up in one place then we
can send more enforcement to that specific area. This would be helpful everywhere it just another way
to keep things under more control. Again, this is my opinion and the scales of justice can tell you
something different. According to the scales of justice both processes are portrayed as equal but in all
reality they are always tipping and that just depends on the situation and the statistics being

Liberal Art Issues
Transfer and Liberal Art Issues Liberal arts provide contexts for understanding rather than the
knowledge that some bit of esoterica is true or false; if the definition of education depended on
knowledge of certain data, facts, or the modes of discourse in any academic discipline, then no one
prior to the nineteenth century was liberally educated because the concept of the academic discipline
did not exist (Cohen, Brawer Krisker, 2014, pg. 267). One can benefit a lot from liberal arts education;
and also learn and develop the abilities and skills that are required for a lifetime learning, for example,
writing, communication and research. Liberal arts education help students to read materials carefully
and thoroughly, completely study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the reason why liberal arts education has been incorporated in the curriculum that is being
taught in school over the years. When students have mastered all the skills and abilities that they need
to know to help them in today s modern society. They need to know how to use those skills for
effective critical thinking and they also have to know that for one to solve a problem effectively, it
requires strong analytical and creative processes, which can be develop through liberal arts education.
When students plan to continue their education, the best thing for them to do, especially if they are not
college ready, is to start out at a community college. Community college has a lot to offer for instance,
they have smaller interactive classrooms with well qualified professors who will teach their students
how to challenge their minds and promote further development before they transition into a four year
university, where courses are a little more challenging and students have to learn how to be more
independent. One challenge is aligning trends with course credits; free course and massive open online
courses, as well as prior learning experience, are all relatively new approaches to education that
educators and policymakers have to address when discussing college credits and transferring credit,
according to the AACC brief (States Improve on Transfer Issues, but Gaps Remain, 2012,

Threats of New Entrants
The barrier of entry is medium since there are competing companies. For example, Amazon s Kindle
Fire versus Apple iPad (Zimmerman 2010). The threat of new entrants is medium to low, since new
companies are gradually getting into the online business. For example, in December, 2011, eBay made
revenues of about $3.38 billion, which is about 19.3% of Amazon s revenue.
2. Bargaining Power of Suppliers:
The bargaining power of the suppliers is very low since there are many suppliers who are willing to
sell their goods online using Amazon.com. The goods are usually sold to a third party, and suppliers
are paid quickly.
3. Threats of substitutes:
The threat of substitutes is very low, because of innovative services that improve the quality of goods
within a short period of time. There is also high brand recognition for the company that makes it
difficult to substitute their products. In addition, there is high customer satisfaction since they get
quality goods from the company. The company also offers well recognized and trusted services.
Lastly, this makes the threat of substitution very low.
4. Rivalry among industry competitors:
There is stiff competition among the retail companies. The competition between Amazon and Wal
Mart is very stiff, since both companies are using almost the same methods to remain leaders in the
retail industry. Both companies are using an online mechanism to sell their products, as well

explanation of what the country lacks in terms of an inclusive education, the challenges the country

country stands on an international level in terms of inclusion and recommendations to improve the
approach towards an inclusive education in Bhutan. 1. Introduction: 1.a) What is Inclusive Education?
A setting of an inclusive education would require all students particularly students with any kind of
disabilities to feel welcomed. Age is of no restriction students and adults with disabilities all are to feel
no sense of hostility from anyone. Inclusive education emphasizes entirely upon developing and
designing a comfortable environment inclusive of an educative curriculum suitable for children with

Chapter 10 Intelligence Essay
Intelligence is defined as the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to
adapt to new situations. We can measure a person s intelligence by assessing an individual s mental
aptitudes using numerical scores. Psychologists are currently still arguing whether intelligence is
inherited or acquired. Nature is focuses more on genetics and hormones while. Nurture, on the other
hand, focuses on external factors that have an influence on individuals. Regarding the intelligence
debate in Psychology, the most important factor is nurture/environment.
One piece of evidence that supports nurture in this debate is James Flynn s creation of the Flynn ...

Hunt tested a tutored human enrichment program. This allowed caregivers to play language fostering
games with the children. The results were successful showing infants being able to name over 50
objects and body parts. Hunt concluded that environmental conditions can depress cognitive
development. This also occurs in many education systems around the world. Students are not cared for
by under qualified teachers, destroying their chances of being more intelligent individuals. A third
piece of evidence that supports nurture as being a more important factor of intelligence in this debate
is racial groups differing in their average intelligence score. Around WWII more IQ tests were being
given due to soldiers in the United States applying to serve their country. African Americans scored
lower (typical Black scores below 85% of Whites) on these tests containing vocabulary, reading, and
mathematics. Test given to the soldiers around this time were extremely biased to Western European
culture. This shows that the black white test gap is not related to nature entirely. When black and white
children attend same schools the gap begins to shrink, proving that environment is a huge factor
regarding intelligence. It shrinks when they have the same wealth and income. When black or mixed
race children are raised in white rather than black homes, their preadolescent test scores rise
dramatically. (NewYorkTimes). There is too much evidence to prove the reasoning for

Similarities Between Julius Caesar And Gaius Marius
I came, I saw, I conquered. These words embody both Caesar s demeanor towards his triumph at the
Battle of Zela (47 B.C) as well as Gaius Marius demeanor towards his triumph at the Battle of Aquae
Sextiae (102 B.C). Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, will later embody the spirit
of Julius Caesar and Gaius Marius throughout his military campaign in the War of 1812 as well as his
presidency (1829 1837). President Jackson s unprecedented imprint upon American politics and the
presidency has exposed viewers to analyze few similarities portrayed from both Julius Caesar and
Gaius Marius. Although the similarities portrayed between President Jackson and Gaius Marius were
immense, based on their executive power, the similarity between Julius Caesar and Andrew Jackson
were substantially greater.
To illustrate, Jackson s rise to sovereignty, like Caesar and Marius, began in the military where he was
positioned as a war General and gradually rose to a politician, stimulating innovation and reform.
Throughout his rise to politics, he advanced a new vision of the President as the direct representative
of the people make him the Consul Caesar of his time. Andrew Jackson became the advocate of the
people, and was commonly considered by historians to have been one of the nation s most vigorous
and powerful chief executives. During the 1800 s, America directed towards, Suffrage [expanding

The Dark Knight Harvey Dent Analysis
The conflicting relationships between moral desire and ethical duty is one fought every day in almost
every decision made. This decision to do what s right versus what they want is affected by many
different factors. One of the most important factors that can impact people s views on the balance of
desire vs duty is major adversities people have faced. However adversities that alter people s
philosophical views usually involve great tragedy commonly found at least once in every life. As a
consequence, people often experience some form of philosophical shift in their life based on shifting
ideals. This is clearly shown in by the conflict Harvey Dent faces in The Dark Knight, since he starts
as the White Knight and ends as a murderer. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also this deadly situation which he unexpectedly survives leads Harvey to question his life goals and
achievements as just when he won against the Joker he also suffers his greatest loss. Additionally this
crushes the anti corruption crusader s ability to continue his old ways of fighting crime and being the
city s White Knight as his own ethics are soon confused without a moral counter balance leaving him
vulnerable to the winds of change looking for a reason why he survived. Additionally his first words at
realising he was going to be saved over Rachel Harvey shouts No no no not me. Why are you coming
for me . This demonstrates how his moral desires were torn apart leaving his ethical duty left without a
counterbalance to serve against. Devastated this left him vulnerable as he looked for a new desire in
life and was ready to sacrifice the now outdated ethics which had failed him earlier.
While in this vulnerable state he is easily subjected to the new ideas that Joker uses to corrupt and
redesign Harvey Dent s ethical codes. Ironically this is done in the hospital where people are supposed
to heal. In the hospital evacuation scene the short conversation held between them made all the
difference to the White Knight s ethics leading him to pursue an entirely new philosophy as The joker
instilled a new moral desire. The conversation held exposes Dent to the random, uncontrollable,
anarchy that

Essay on Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Structuralism
Frankenstein and Structuralism
Professor John Lye of Brock University, California describes literary theory as: a collection of related
theoretical concepts and practices which are marked by a number of premises, although not all of the
theoretical approaches share or agree on all of them.
The first segment of this essay aims to define the main views of structuralism, one of these theoretical
approaches. Structuralism, in particular the work of Ferdinand de Saussure, created controversy as it
directly challenged some of the values of the everyday reader in the way it attempts to disregard the
actual content of writings, and instead concentrates on form and diagrammatics. As the name suggests

Saussure claimed that words only function when operating in a system of differences, not because
they are tied literally to the real world. Words are a self sufficient system; they have a meaning
because of their place in the system not because of the speaker s intentions. In that sense, one could
say that the content of the narrative is its structure. Saussure s ideas on langue and parole support this.
Langue or language is a total system of rules whilst parole or speech is the concrete application of this
system.
Saussure furthermore identified two parts to a basic linguistic unit: the concept and the sound image.
The sound image or signified is the image that imprints on your mind at the sound or thought of the
word. The signifier is the word that produces this image, whether it is spoken, written or a pictorial
equivalent. The sign is the combination and relationship between the signifier and the signified . To
explain, whatever the language in which the word cat is spoken (signifier), to a member of that
nationality the word will instantly conjure up the idea of a cat (signified). However Saussure stressed
that the relationship between the two is strictly arbitrary, they are bound purely by convention

Corruption Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
The humourous perspective upon philosophy and the general follies of life constructs Candide as a
novel to transcend Voltaire s society and remain relevant to current day. As it is for his satirization of
various ideology, specially optimism and pessimism, that makes Voltaire s purpose apparent to present
day. As there is no perfect philosophy in which to partake in life, especially each one with their own
benefits and downfalls. And that a mixture of these beliefs result in a better line of thinking. Thus, the
characters in Candide demonstrate each stereotypical philosophy by alluding to their respecting
philosopher to portray Voltaire s overall purpose.
Furthermore, Pangloss, as characterized by Voltaire for representing the affinity of optimism, ... Show

And since he values himself above Leibniz and Rousseau, Voltaire alludes to himself as the form of
Cacambo and James the Anabaptist. These characters demonstrate rational lines of thinking for
asserting wise courses of actions, resonating their reputations as being worthy fellows for the other
characters within (Candide, 87). Rather than always see the best or worse within situations, these
realists, or Voltaire himself, sees the events as hand as rational beings. To the reader, these approaches
are appropriate as compared to the outrageousness of Pangloss s or Leibniz s everything always being
for the best and Martin s or Rousseau s perspective upon men were created by the forces of evil. And
it s by Voltaire s major stereotyping these philosophies can the reader make the distinctive difference
between the two and where their faults lie. His allusions within these characters satirizes the unsound
thought patterns within the philosophies, pointing to the disadvantages to each side of the spectrum.
While optimism saw everything as always being right and pessimism seeing everything as always
having a corrupted source, the realist ideal fits between the two to persuade the reader as this approach
is more sound than the other

The Buggy In The Capote Short Summary
4. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old
woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a
long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can
understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the
story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for
adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition.
5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably
unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart,
they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady
exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds
singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our
buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys
sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the
adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the
same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship.
6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas
together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final
Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each other.
After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus
on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. As if I expected to see, rather like
hearts, a lost pair of kites hurrying toward heaven (Capote 11). The kites are more than just kites to
Buddy. They are a symbol of their timeless friendship and harmony they will always have, physically
alive or not. He will never forget her, and she will reign in his

I Want To Be Miss America Analysis

Multicultural Lit Film
30 January 2017
Creative Title People are fantastic at pointing out differences. Most times than not it s to make fun of
the person being pointed out and often it s a racist or stereotyping action. Fish Cheeks by Amy Tan,
Gate A 4 by Naomi Shihab Nye, and Just Walk on By by Brent Staples all touch on the topic of racial
and cultural stereotypes.
The essay I want to be Miss America is narrated by Julia Alvarez, a hispanic teenager who was willing
to change the way she looked just so that she looked more like an American girl. When watching the
Pageant with her sisters, Julia s thoughts were: I knew I would never be one of those girls ever... she
was An American and we were not ( Alvarez 22). They started complaining about their height, the
texture of their hair, their body, and even their style, They started making changes to their way of
clothing, and all of a sudden The colorful outfits that mom would pick for them like fuchsia skirts with
matching vests, flowered dresses with bows at the neck (Alvarez 13) were described by Julia as
something someone might wear in a foreign country (Alvarez 13). When Julia realizes that being an
American girl isn t the only definition of beauty, and sees that the ethnic looks, that she once used to
have, became more popular is when she finally realized that she could ve stayed beautiful in her own
way. She felt a gratifying sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from your cultural background. All essays show how important culture is, because they are part of

The Issues Of Race And Privilege
There are any issues that the nation, the world, is facing today. Is it okay to travel to Africa? Is the
water safe to drink? Many questions. Something that has been a question, a problem, an issue, for
many years has recently become the main focus of topic; race and privilege. Those are topics that is
discussed by many and somewhat dreaded by others. How can all people work collectively to address
issues of race and privilege? That is a question that I will address and hopefully offer a solution to the
issues in the form of a moral claim. Political philosophers or philosophies to support the claim will be
incorporated. Criticisms of the claim will be anticipated and a response will be given. A Jesuit value
will be presented and how the value informs and supports my claim will be discussed. Last week I
attended the American Psychological Association Convention in Toronto, Canada. During a session, a
White male talked that how is beginning to see and understand privilege, particularly white privilege.
The discussion continued with other comments about privilege and all from those who were the
recipients of white privilege. According to the dictionary, privilege is a right or immunity granted as a
peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor (marriam webster, n.d.). Those that are privileged fall under
different categories. One area that people often glaze over, as well, is heterosexism, which is when
heterosexuals discriminate or show prejudice toward

The Large Emphasis Mill Puts On Conformity Is Not A Strong...
The large emphasis Mill puts on Conformity, is not a strong enough argument. It is simply displaying
the problem he sees without any clear fixes. By Mill saying that people should be allowed to act on
their own based off of the idea that originality is a valuable element of human affairs because it would
lead to new practices and set examples of more enlightened conduct is not an argument that is going to
persuade someone with different beliefs. Just basing your thinking off this, won t change the mind of
someone who is content with the way life is already. Mill also moves on to evaluate the argument over
what the rightful limits are that should be set to the sovereignty of the individual over himself. This
argument presents the ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore Mill states that inconveniences that are in no way inseparable from unfavorable judgment
by others is the only time that a person should be subjected to this, it also must be for his own good
will, and not affect the interests of others. The popular idea of social contract, that society was
something that people in some way agreed to be a part of, and that defined rights as things people
agreed to have protected by society, and duties as things people would agree to take obligation over,
Mill did not agree with. Due to his disagreement with this idea, the argument that because people
receive certain protection of society, they owed certain conduct in return did not work in favor of his
argument. Mill instead uses the argument that in the case that people do not conduct themselves
appropriately, as long as they don t violate anyone else s rights, but do in some way harm another
individual, they should only be censured by opinions, not by the law in any way. Mill showed his
strong disapproval for the interference of law in people s actions, which were only affecting that
specific individual. This idea meant that if a person was distantly impacted by a person s actions such
as death, or illness due to poor

Four Phases Of Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetics is term related to the ending of a substance that administered in a living organism. It
consists of four phases and these are absorption, distribution, metabolism, and renal elimination,
which referred to as ADME. There are two classes for pharmacokinetics: linear pharmacokinetics and
non linear pharmacokinetics. Linear pharmacokinetics of drug is a term refer to dose independent and
concentration independent pharmacokinetics, in which pharmacokinetic parameters are constant when
the drug concentration change. These parameters are half life, clearance (CL), and volume of
distribution at steady state (Vss). The pharmacokinetic phases like absorption, distribution, and
elimination in dose independent pharmacokinetics are followed first order kinetics. In this condition,
the changing in the drug dose results directly changing in the drug concentration in a body. In contract,
non linear pharmacokinetics of drug is known dose dependent, time dependent or concentration

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther Vs Machiavelli
Man of Politics and Man of Faith
When someone asks what should an individual do? , everyone is bound to have different answers due
to the nature of the question, because each answers would be on the basis of his or her own philosophy
and language he or she uses while explaining. The philosophy makes a point and that synthesized with
the language, one makes a direction of his or her argument. To point out for the two men, Niccolo
Machiavelli starts with a philosophy that people are gullible and wicked (Chapter XVIII), and Martin
Luther starts with a philosophy that people can be born again from man of flesh desires to a man of
faith if he truly believes in Christ and work toward helping others. Also, Machiavelli speaks in
political language, when Luther speaks in religious language. This two men differ immensely on topic

It is therefore inevitable that two men, Niccolo Machiavelli and Martin Luther, had different answers
and directions on the question, especially on how to deal with others. In summary, two men are mostly
not similar in subject of treatment of others; Machiavelli preaches one to work for calculated self
interest even if it accompanies using deceit strategically, when Luther preaches one to work for
selflessness and faithfulness to achieve inner greatness and concordance with neighbors when
interacting. First, Machiavelli and Luther differ in that former teaches that deceit is permissible for
greater good and the latter teaches that truly and selflessly is essential for the same reason.

Before I really get into my personal experience at the Durga temple, I would like to begin my experience paper by throwing a light on my religion. I personally belong to a Muslim family and have practiced Islam throughout my life. Islam is one of the monotheistic religions, which means people only believe in one God usually referred as Allah. All the individuals, including me, believe that everything in this world has been created by all mighty Allah. He has the power and authority of diminishing and raising thing. Islam is based on its five pillars; Namaz (prayer), Roza (fasting), Hajj (pilgrimage), Zakat (Give away), and Jahad (struggle in way of Islam). In contrast Hinduism has many different deities and all of them have a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I went to the temple in the afternoon, because the timing for the Hanuman pooja was seven o clock pm. When I arrived at the temple I was shocked just by looking at the lights. The whole temple was surrounded by the colorful lights, which made me feel like that I am in another world. As I walked closer to the temple I saw the sign of swastika on the security gates of the temple. I asked the purpose of this sign from a person who was standing outside the temple, he said, this symbol stand for good fortune, luck, and well being . As I moved forward I noticed that there is a huge bell hanging from the roof of the temple, as the people were walking upstairs they were ringing the bell. I did the same thing as the other people were doing, just to make sure that they do not fell any kind of disrespect. I have always seen those kinds of bells either in the movies or dramas, but not in real life. After enjoying all this, finally I got a chance to go inside the temple. When I entered the temple there were two installs, one on my left the other one on my right side. On this stands there was all the stuff available that a person need to perform a pooja. • 4. The Oil And Natural Gas Everyday oil and natural gas is being found in new areas and being sought after by companies who want to drill for and use those resources. More often than not these resources are under land already owned by someone else so the companies must come to an agreement with the landowner in order to get permission to drill for the oil and natural gas. Oil and gas are valuable commodities for landowners and can mean an extra income. Instead of selling the land and completely giving up their stake in the potential fortune most owners decide to negotiate a lease with the company in which both parties benefit from the resources. Just because someone owns a piece of land does not mean he or she has the right to set up a lease for the drilling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A landman (or woman) is a person whose job it is to secure leases on as large an area as possible and they are either employed by oil and gas companies or work independently. Because these men and women are professionals and are trained in the art of making sells using all possible tactics, it is usually advised that landowners seek an attorney or some type of professional to assist in the negotiations. A lease in this context is a legal document or contract between a landowner who is the lessor and a company (or individual) who is the lessee that grants the lessee rights to exploration and development rights to potential subsurface mineral commodities. Today there is no standard oil and gas lease form. At one point the Producers 88 form was considered the standard form but today various oil and gas companies utilized several different types of lease forms as their starting point for negotiations. Generally their are two broad types of oil and gas lease forms based on the timing of the lease bonus payments. The most commonly used type is the Pay Up lease which no bonus payments are due after the signing of the lease, instead the lessor gets one hundred percent of the lease bonus money combined with annual rental payments up front. The other type is the Rental Lease that is not as commonly used in which the lease, can lapse if the rentals are not paid in a timely manner by the company which would ultimately result in the termination of ... • 5. Effects of poverty The Effects Of Poverty , WRIT 300 October 15, 2012 Poverty is an enigma that seems to plague each corner of the United States. No matter how rich how stabilize or how strong our country may claim it is poverty lurks in shadow of all places on this earth and in it s silhouette the opprobrious effects. The three scholarly articles I summarized connect the dots on how poverty impacts the United States economically; and socially. The first articles I summarized Haiyun Zhao, Zhilan Feng, Carlos Castillo havez, (2008) conducted an study that examines the effects that poverty has on our society economically, and the effects it has on children growing up in poor areas. Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) starts out by shedding light on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, they combine this finding with the others such as foregone earnings, crime, and health which concluded that people living in poverty cost America an astonishing 38 percent of the GDP. Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) ends their research by stating that the estimations of poverties effects and cost are understated and most likely are more severe and costly. This article brought up important points and backed them up with facts; however I do think they could have done a better job on breaking down the cost structure, for the 700 billion figure given. The work done by Zhao, Feng, Havez (2008) detailed some of the effects of poverty. However, there should have been more emphasis on the social impacts of poverty. This is where Mulia and Zemore (2012) excel at. Mulia and Zemore (2012) reviewed and discussed social adversity; drugs and how it impacts people living in poor areas. Mulia and Zemore (2012) talks about how people living in low income areas are affected by more situations, oppose to others in high income areas. In particular, Mulia and Zemore (2012) lean towards the theory of social strain, which points to poverty being the reason for drug abuse among other crimes. Comparing Mulia and Zemore (2012) work to Zhao, Feng, Havez, (2008) the article picks up the improves where the previous lacked at by providing a theory that supports their study, of overall affects ... Ethics encompass essential guidelines and codes of conduct that is taken into consideration before carrying out research. Although undergraduate and graduate curriculum in psychology acquaints students with the basic nature of ethical considerations and codes of conduct in research, however, it is likely that some of the most famous experiments in social psychology such as experiment by Stanley Milgram on Behavioral Study of Obedience exemplify ethical misconduct. However, with the publishing of the first American Psychological Association Code of Ethics (APA, 2010), controversial and unethical experiments such as the Stanley Milgram Obedience Experiment have been scrutinized. Also, the appropriate regulatory body such as APA for psychological experiment provides guidelines and enforce appropriate ways of conducting research and practicing the different aspects of the psychological profession in retrospect to ethics. However, psychological research remain predispose to controversial experimental techniques and designs due to the manner in which the research questions are formulated ( ). Hence, in forming a research question and recruiting human subject, it is critical that I abide by the set of mandatory codes of conduct of either those of my university board or, later in my career, those of the APA I belong to in my professional obligation. Ms. Scannell English II 9/28/2017 Analysis of Night Elie Wiesel went through some dark times, as a result he uses symbols to describe these trying times. A literary symbol is used to unite an image and an idea to evoke thought. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, night, fire, and silence are used as symbols to describe the darkness of his history. In this article i intend to analyse how night is used to show the darkness of humanity in this time period throughout the novel, how fire represented that they were in hell, and how silence is used to show the loss of faith and fear. The biggest symbol used in the novel is night it s even used as the title to hint towards the story s darkness. Wiesel uses the word night to show death, darkness, and a world without God. Throughout the book there were many last nights ; for example, the last night in Sighet, the last night with his father, and even the last night of innocence. The worst suffering in the book happens at night, the train ride to the concentration camp was his last night of freedom before they got there, the first selection was at 9 o clock, when winter came Eliezer said it was unbearable, and they left the camp on the death march during the night. Lupus Informative Speech Grace Spottswood, 1 30 15, Watermelon Lupus: Imagine skiing down the slopes and watching all of the happy people enjoying their ski trip, and wondering, why do I feel so sick? Imagine going to countless doctors appointments, and being treated for anxiety and facial migraines. No one believes your symptoms are real, but you know something isn t right. After five years of suffering, you are finally diagnosed with an incurable disease. Somehow you feel relief. This mystery disease is called lupus, an autoimmune disease which makes the body unable to tell healthy tissue from unhealthy tissue. The body then attacks the healthy tissue to get rid of what it believes is unhealthy tissue, this mistake causes the body to inflict pain on itself. No new drug to treat lupus has been created in 50 years, yet 2 million people in America, and 5 million people worldwide are suffering from this disease ( Lupus: Causes, diagnosis, symptoms and treatment ). The next way that Napoleon maintained his control was through Repression, to limit any opposition to his regime. Napoleon created Code Napoleon to bring uniformity of the law to all of France. This Code was illiberal, restrictive, authoritarian and brought order. Napoleon then banned trade unions and introduced The Livret . He also introduced harsher Criminal and Penal codes with new courts, tribunals for political offenders, arbitrary imprisonment without trial and house arrest. All these changes gave Napoleon perfect power to remove any opposition, as he had influence of appointment of judges and the Supreme Court. Napoleon also used the police, which monitored public opinion, used a network of spies and informants. Napoleon also had his own secret police so that he had supreme power to remove anyone at all that stood against him. Napoleon also appointed Prefects for each department which was important as it made a connection between local and central government and Napoleon made the prefects responsible for propaganda, education and conscription within each region, so Napoleon could make sure that he kept his support through out France. Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala was an ethnic Andean, deeply inspired by the injustice of the colonial regime, he wrote a massive manuscript in 1615 about the history of the Inca Empire to the King of Spain. His masterpiece includes 1,200 pages, of which 398 were images full of details, that are clearly considered by the artist to be the most direct and effective way of communicating his ideas to the audience. Felipe de Ayala focused on the conflicts between the settlers and the natives to reveal, in his powerful drawings, his wider purpose of a desire for a colonial reformation that will bring stability and justice to the Andean people. This incident was a major motivation for Guaman Poma to write the manuscript and change his believes in the Church, because he felt no support from the colonial regime. Before being convicted, Guaman Poma was serving and protecting the Church as an interpreter of a visitador or inspector named Cristobal de Albornoz. He helped to identify and capture practitioners of native religion during the first campaigns to stop idolatry. He gives proof of this fact, by picturing Albornoz supervising the punishment of a native Andean (Figure 1). The Andean has an image, of himself playing with the devil, on top of his head, which represents idolization. He shows his fear towards the Spaniards by being in a state of shock and crying as if he is innocent. The other Andean that is getting instructions from the priest is a member of the inspection team. He seems very determined and supportive of the Church and feels no sorrow for punishing the native. Guaman Poma approved the fight against idolatry because in his drawings, the Andean inspectors always fight against their own tradition and religion by protecting the Church. Another important issue that Guaman Poma supported is evangelization of the Andean people. His vivid drawings and issues suggest that he pressed on the need of evangelization (Figure 2). Saussure claimed that words only function when operating in a system of differences, not because they are tied literally to the real world. Words are a self sufficient system; they have a meaning because of their place in the system not because of the speaker s intentions. In that sense, one could say that the content of the narrative is its structure. Saussure s ideas on langue and parole support this. Langue or language is a total system of rules whilst parole or speech is the concrete application of this system. Saussure furthermore identified two parts to a basic linguistic unit: the concept and the sound image. The sound image or signified is the image that imprints on your mind at the sound or thought of the word. The signifier is the word that produces this image, whether it is spoken, written or a pictorial equivalent. The sign is the combination and relationship between the signifier and the signified . During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition. 5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. They also have the same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship. 6.
