Survival In The Novel Hatchet By Gary Paulsen
Survival. That was Brian s only mindset in Gary Paulsen s novel, Hatchet. Brian is a thirteen
year old city boy who goes to visit his father in the Canadian wilderness for the summer. Midway
through the flight, the pilot began jerking uncontrollably and by the time he stopped, he was lying
dead. Brian, after the mysterious death of the pilot, is forced to pilot a plane alone. He manages to
crash land in the Canadian forest, but now he has another problem. Survival. Brian now has to learn
how to live again.
Gary Paulsen wrote this adventurous, action packed book based off of many of his own real life
experiences. Most of the situations Brian goes through, Paulsen went through himself. This allows
Paulsen to write with astonishing

The Roman and U.S. Military
The Roman Republic military was one of the first well organized military of all time. Because of
this, most succeeding militaries follow their example by adopting and adapting some of the same
characteristics. The Roman and U.S. military are from different eras, but still share similar
characteristics as well as vast modernized differences that have established the U.S. militaryas
efficient and organized. Separating a military into unique specialized forces increases efficiency
and the Romans knew that. The Roman legions consisted of: 10 cohorts to one legion, six centuries
to one cohort, 10 tents to one cohort, eight soldiers to one tent, 120 cavalry (Lloyd, 2013). The
Roman formation was the triplex acies, which was the hastati,... Show more content on

The U.S. military uniforms are completely different from the Roman Republic; nothing is the
same except for the use of a helmet. Warfare has changed since the ancient times and with that
change, what soldiers wear for protection had to change as well. The consistency of the same
soldier is to maintain experienced soldiers. Constantly training new soldiers is a waste of time
and money. Nations worldwide for every era understood the concept of a time in which soldiers
must serve in the military. In the Roman Republic, it changed throughout the years. At first
soldiers had to stay for six years with ten years nonconsecutive. Later it was changed to twenty
years, but after the sixteenth year, the soldier was considered a veteran. The final change was
twenty years with an additional five years as a veteran (Southern, 2006). Even though the
Romans were very strict on the soldiers, the army was superior to any other nation because of
this consistency in soldiers. The U.S. military is vastly different with their length of service.
Citizens can be in the military for active or inactive duty, they can also be in the reserves where
they would only be deployed if necessary. Soldiers can also have contracts depending on the
branch for two, four, six, or eight years. Soldiers can also do tours of duty for a length of time.
There is also the possibility of having a long time career in the military. The U.S. military has a
larger span of options to choose from for the length of

Coli And The General Mills Outbreak Essay
Introduction to E. Coli and the General Mills Outbreak.
After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5,
2016, the FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak
which were various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016,
General Mills led a voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and
E. coli O26.
E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram
negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and
are found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are
pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness.
Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria.
According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days
after consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and
abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However,
the most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may
experience more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
In this particular case, due to the nature of the product, the long shelf life of flour and the tendency
for consumers to store the product for long periods before consumption, it is most likely that

The Davis Service Group And Its Takeover Of Berendsen Essay
FIntroduction:
In this assignment we will look at the Davis Service Group and its takeover of Berendsen. We
will also discuss 2 ways a company can grow, what a company would consider if they were
expanding globally. We will look at which aspects of the European Union encouraged the
horizontal growth of the business as well as the differences between Organic and Inorganic
growth. Lastly we will theorize why the acquisition of Berendsen was a good opportunity for the
Davis Service Group.
Describe two major ways in which a company can grow and include 2 examples. According to this
week s case study material a company can grow in the following ways. A merger or a Takeover.
A merger is defined by Investopedia as a deal to unite two existing companies into one new
company, Takeover Definition | Investopedia. (2003)
A takeover is defined by Investopedia as an acquiring company makes a bid for a target company,
If the takeover goes through, the acquiring company becomes responsible for all of the target
company s operations, holdings and debt, Takeover Definition | Investopedia. (2003)
An example of a Merger
In February 2014 it was announced by the BBC that in the USA Comcast (a pay to view channel
provider, internet and phone provider) was merging with Time Warner Cable(a rival pay to view
channel provider, internet and phone provider) for an estimated $45 Bn. What makes this merger

Future Of Fdi During The Oil And Gas Sector Essay
Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector
Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several
factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country s wealth to other country. But some
believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has
contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there are so much
investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has showed sign of
rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and
polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling
towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all
assets are not handled by foreign companies. But some economists believe the rules and regulations
of the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms,
because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the
Gray report puts forward the following policy which suggest Canadians to posses high command
over the business and environment, increase the profit and reduce the harm of foreign direct
investment, and to hold and expand Canadian control where there is need and can be controlled.
The problem that worries the government in the past was foreign investors take domestic

Snowden And The United States
Unless you were hiding beneath a rock in 2014, you saw the nation s reaction to the release of
classified NSA documents by the infamous whistleblower Edward Snowden. Snowden, who worked
as the lead technologist for Dell, managed their accounts with the Central Intelligence Agency. It
was in this position that Snowden began to notice some classified documents that didn t make
sense. These documents contained information on the National SecurityAgency illegally spying on
their own citizens. It was at this time in 2012 that Snowden began downloading some of these files
for himself. It is estimated that he downloaded somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 files on the
espionage efforts of the United States (Borrough, Ellison, Andrews, 2014). Now, Snowden needed
to get the files out to the people. He attempted to contact a few media outlets around the world who
would not go through the trouble to follow his strict encryption methods. Snowden eventually
contacted documentarian Laura Poitras, who had recently written an article on a separate
whistleblower that caught Snowden s attention. Poitras states in an interview with Salon.com that,
...he d contacted me because my border harassment meant that I d been a person who had been

The Destructors Analysis
Stephen Alexander Smith
Miss Shackel
AP English Literature
13 September 2017
A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society.
Graham Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s,
when England is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9
years ago. During the time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it
extremely difficult for someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War
II brings change to the social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and
granting the the lower classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest
addition to the Wormsley Common Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry
driver, the man who drove the car that pulled down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different
attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot
to signify different class distinctions and to display how the gang fights against previous social
order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the materialism of the older generation and
the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader learns that the gang does not refer to
Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards referred to (Greene 116). The
members of the Wormsley Common Gang understand that Trevor is the name given to

Cyber security threats/crimes
Before people even knew you could do so much with computers and internet beside common
work activity before it got popular and admired, criminals had to get a lot more personal when
retrieving their personal information like dig through trash, steal or break into their mailboxes,
are buy it from a somebody who sold other people identity was some of the way criminal got
people personal information. Now many of people around the world keep all of their information
online and criminal have quickly figure out a way to seal people information and identities without
ever living there house.
Cybercrime is one of the fast growing areas of crime we are facing right now. More criminal s
everyday are taking advantage of the convenience and preying on people use of the Internet to
commit a series of criminal activities that has no boundaries physical or virtual. Attacks against
computer hardware and software, for example, malware and network intrusion; Financial crimes
and corruption, such as online fraud, phishing; are some ways these criminal use to get your
personal information..
The major annoyance and risk for the internet community has to be hacker and spammers. The
toughest security measures have not been able to enclose these criminals. Such as, social sites like
Facebook, twitter and Myspace are candy land for hackers in 2008 and 2014. However the targets

Blood Vessels Lab Report
Introduction
The main types of blood vessels in the systemic system are arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins
and venules. In this experiment, the main blood vessels that were explored in depth were the
arteries and the veins. An artery is a muscular or elastic tube that carries oxygenated blood from the
heart to the tissues of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary, which carries oxygen
to the lungs for oxygenation and removal of excess carbon dioxide. A vein is a type of blood vessel
that transports oxygen depleted blood to the right atrium of the heart. In a blood vessel, the
diameter is extremely important. It can affect the movement of blood flow. The diameter is one of
the three sources of resistance, and it is intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clay may not have flattened enough when used as a seal in part two. The straw may not
have been exactly half way up the cup, and the water my not have been exactly three quarters
full. Also, the depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab.
Moreover, the seal may have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for
more pressure that was not intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in
the straw, air built up inside. Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure
compared to veins. If plaque were to build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it
experiences would force it to pop. This lab illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the
inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that
forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there is an obstruction, more pressure (in
this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the straw. In a blood vessel, even
when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces more plaque to stick. To
maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be applied, even at
the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant flow of
blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will
build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important
to keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as
possible. The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case
air) had to flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood
vessel. The seal was supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin
wall that is present in veins.

Enkidu As A Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu helps act as a catalyst for the transformation of Gilgamesh s
character from an undefeatable god like brute into a complex thinker. In the eyes of Gilgamesh, he
is unstoppable and is willing to challenge death itself so long as he is remembered as a hero by his
subjects. With Enkidus help, Gilgamesh learns to become a better person as a ruler, not as a better
warrior. Although not blood related, Enkidu was like a brother to Gilgamesh and the duo shared an
inseparable bond. Throughout the epic, Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh that he is not unstoppable, being
stubborn will not stop him from dying, and that there are no easy solutions to life.
At the beginning of the epic, before Enkidu is introduced, Gilgamesh is described by the narrator
as godly and fit for Uruk s throne by default. These descriptions are vital in order to interpret how
the villagers feel and also to perceive just how mighty Enkidu has to be in order to rival
Gilgamesh. Supreme over other kings, lordly in appearance, /he is the hero, born of Uruk, the
goring wild bull. /He walks out in front, the leader, / (1. 27 29). The narrator speaks extremely
fondly to emphasize just how mighty the main character is and that no other men in any of the
nearby regions seem to come close when the level of their manliness is compared to that of
Gilgamesh. The use of the words Supreme and Lordly indicate that in Gilgamesh s point of view,
he is doing an excellent job of reigning over his

The Intrigue of the Book of Danie
Book of Daniel The Book of Daniel is one of the most intriguing books found in the Bible. To
know God s plan for the future it is necessary that you understand the book of Daniel. Daniel can
be divided into two segments of six chapters each. Chapters 1 6 are made up primarily of a
historical narrative that explains how Danielcame to be in King Nebuchadnezzar s royal court and
his rise to power. Chapters 7 12 are of an apocalyptic genre in which Daniel receives visions
concerning the future and the kingdom of God. The book of Danielimplies that Daniel was its
author in a few key passages, such as 10:2 and 12:4. JesusChrist also attributed to this indication
via the quote Daniel the Prophet in Matthew 24:14. In questioning of the original date for the
composition of the book, two views prevail: 1) The book was written in the 2nd century BC in
Judea or 2) It was written in the 6th century BC in Babylon by a Jewish exile name Daniel. The
book sets its own historical timetable of composition around 535 BC through such references as
Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Cyrus (Hindson Towns, 2013). The key theme throughout the
book of Daniel is the reassurance of God sovereignty over the kingdoms of men (Daniel 4:17,
KJV). The purpose of this book was to of encourage faithful living among God s people by
demonstrating His faithfulness and giving hope to those exiled from Jerusalem. God blesses those
who put their faith in him in spite of danger or difficulty. According to

Nuclear Chemical And Physical Changes
Nuclear chemistry is the study of the chemical and physical changes in the nucleus of an atom.
The field of nuclear chemistry deals with radioactive elements such as radium, radon and the
whole actinides series and the equipment to deal with such elements; such as nuclear reactors.
However the subject itself varies because it deals with the scientific areas such as physics,
biology, geology and chemistry. Nuclear chemistry has help us discover more about the nucleus
and has provided advances in medicine, nuclear weapons and instruments to help scientists in
those fields. 1, 2 Nuclear chemistry focuses on creating electrical energy for power generation
and, in some cases, propel ships. This electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors
in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction.
These nuclear chain reactions can come in two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass.
Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are
bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller fragments of the nuclei: smaller
atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since neutrons have no charge, they can
pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear chain reaction is a series of
nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some of the spare neutrons,
caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and

Rosa Parks Impact On Civil Rights
Rosa Parks was a strong, powerful woman who was one of the well known Civil Rights figures
during the Civil Rights Movement. She sparked the movement by refusing to leave the seat on a
bus in Montgomery, Alabama, which caused her to get arrested. Due to this action, it has
encouraged African Americans to protest discrimination in public facilities and demand equal
rights. Although most historians discussed Parks impact on social justice, they did not discuss
Parks involvement of fighting against sexual violence. African American women were raped by
white men in southern states since the beginnings of slavery. White men were able to get away
with the crime because black women were unable to seek justice against rapists because of
discrimination. Parks did not let them get away with the crime, so she helped black women seek
justice against them. Parks action has helped encourage women to step out of their shadows and
address the issues of rapeculture in the southern states. Parks achievement of fighting sexual
violence in the black community was uncommon in American history, but it is important for people
to be informed about the cruelty of rape culture.
To start with Parks involvement against rape, Parks had experienced discrimination and violence at
an early age. Most African American children were aware of racism throughout the southern states.
In most cases, young black women were prepared for the hostility of racism because African
American women were more

How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and marriage are undermined and ridiculed in
The Taming of the Shrew ?
Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and
courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked
suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled
against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of
this. In our Taming of the Shrew this is no different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which
marry his daughters.
We first see this undermining of courtshipand marriage when Petruchio speaks of his view on ...

Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to
marry him and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes
a charade of marriage. I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over
Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and
comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the
psychological realities of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect
example of Shakespeare s attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage.
As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire
to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet
never really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of
marriage.
Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to
disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises
himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This
shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the
person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as

Business Ethics are an important part to any organization. If a business doesn t practice good

branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right
and wrong conduct. What the definition says is it s more of a decision of right vs. wrong, ethical
or unethical. Based on our class discussion, we discussed where we get our morals, or ethics from.
We learned the two sets of people are the most influential are your parents, and your employer.
The reason I don t find this surprising, is that these two groups are the people that teach you the
most in life. Your parents teach you good morals and values, from your religion and your respect
for people. That is instilled in you since the day you are born. Your employers teach you the right

survival rate five years after diagnosis is very low, at only 5 %. 19 Approximately 90 % of patients
diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer survive less than one year, with a median survival of 5
6 months. The high mortality rate is connected to late diagnosis, early metastasis and poor response
to chemo and radiotherapy. 34 Pancreatic cancer can be inherited, but 90 % of cases are
considered sporadic. 19 The major histological type of pancreatic cancer is ductal pancreatic
adenocarcinoma which account for 80 % of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evidence shows that some families have increased risk of pancreatic cancer, implying a genetic
contribution. 28 The genetic base for this increased risk has not been identified yet, but
mutations in BRCA2 and PALB2, among others, are associated with greater risk of disease 37.
Only 5 10 % of patients have a family history of the disease. 19 It has been shown that in families
with four or more cases of pancreatic cancer the risk of disease is 57 times higher than in families
with no history of disease. 19
1.1.2Stage and diagnostics
Pancreatic cancer tumors are staged according to tumor node metastasis (TNM) classifications of
the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The staging of tumors is based on tumor size
and localization, and connected to resectability. 19 Further staging reflect whether lymph node
metastasis (N stage) or distant metastasis (M stage) are present. Tumor stage, nodal stage and
distant metastasis are combined into stages which tell about the overall disease. See Table 1 for
complete overview of this staging strategy. 19

Various pollutants generated and deposited in the urban regions are washed off to the receiving
waters during storm events, resulting in receiving water quality degradation. The impacts on
receiving water quality degradation include elevated toxicity, algal blooms and excessive
sedimentation.
Thus, use of stormwater pollution mitigation strategies to improve the quality of receiving waters
has become increasingly important. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is the stormwater
management philosophy adopted in Australia. The aims of WSUD are to manage stormwater
quality and quantity to minimise the impacts of urban developments on the surrounding
environment (Lloyd et al., 2002). WSUD concepts are developed to provide technically effective,
more economical and less environmentally damaging solutions for stormwater management.
However, there are barriers in widespread implementation of WSUD. In this regard, the long term
viability of implemented WSUD systems are perceived with high level of importance (Lloyd et al.,
2002). The primary concern is that the treatment systems adopted in WSUD approach are typically
designed considering static climate conditions. Changing climate in future scenarios including
changes to rainfall patterns and characteristics of dry periods can reduce the effectiveness of such
WSUD systems (Beecham et al., 2012).
Climate change would have a significant impact on the future functionality of WSUD. Researchers
commonly agree that

Effects Of Expenditure On Terrorism
Expenditure on Terrorism
The money that has been spent by the United States to counter terrorism is over exaggerated and
does not reflect value for money. No one can dispute that terrorism is a unique kind of threat and
it is evil. However, the money spent in this area is exaggerated in both official mind and the
public. The risk of death from a terrorist attack in the United States today is very minimal. The
danger in itself is remote with a low probability of happening. For instance, since 1970, only 3305
United States citizens have been killed by terrorism. If 9/11 fatalities are deducted from this figure,
the number drops to 397. Therefore, the ratio of being killed by terrorism is 1:110,000,000. In
2010, 3841 people died from drowning, 32,999 in car accidents, 2791 from malnutrition, 38,369
from suicide and 29 from lighting (Sherry 3). In the same year, only four deaths from terrorism
were reported by the government. The cases of terrorism are of lone wolf variety which America
has faced for years. Therefore, what is needed is to come up with tactics for dealing with the same
old problem. The whole issue of ISIS threat is overhyped, and it is usually a tactic used by the
government to justify its expenditure on counterterrorism.
War on Terror Strategy
To fight and suppress terrorism the United States should abandon their traditional approaches. The
war is not a real war but a war of ideologies. To win this war, the United States has to stop excessive
use of military

Colonization And Colonization Of Indonesia
In Junior high, the history teacher taught us that my native country, Indonesia was colonized by
the Dutch for 350 years. The Netherlands is one of the European countries that established its
country over Indonesia to take benefits of our rich land such as spices. I was aware our land is
very source full of spices, rice, sugar, coffee. The Dutch colonized us with the focus of monopoly
through trading. Because of the most important source of the spices of this rich land of Indonesia,
the Netherlandsprofits from our land with tremendous wealth.
In colonialism era, the United State of America and the Great Britain maintain a good report to
respect their laws. Both countries are willing to allow their colonies to become independent. On the
other hands, European country such as the Netherlands, Spain, and France are very restricted to
their colonies, for examples, they limited education to certain social groups. Also, Southeast Asia is
not encouraged to engage in economic activities. This causes many corruptions that huge problems
in these European countries. This colonial authority did not support the rule of law to its own
country, it is only to Asian, which is Indonesian. They only control on our people but not their
people. Moreover, they control our politic, economic, and cultural.
This colonial authority, the Dutch did not provide civil liberties to our Indonesian. There is no fair

Analysis Of The Movie Bill Cosby
Ruining a reputation is as easy as ruining a life. Just keep secrets. It may be a forbidden
relationship or one from the past that comes to haunt later. The latter is true for Bill Cosby. After
Hannibal Burress called Cosby a rapist in a comedy act in October 2014, several women s stories
came to national attention. Barbara Bowman wrote an essay, about her experience with Bill Cosby
for Washington Post online on November 13th, 2014. She explains how the relationship started
off harmlessly. He had a TV show and she was a 17 year old aspiring model so he gave her tips
and they bonded over the industry. The first time he assaulted her was at his home in New York
City, where he had invited her to dinner. I blacked out after having dinner and one glass of wine
[...]. When I came to [...] Cosby was looming over me. I m certain now that he drugged and
raped me the essay written by Bowmen reveals. She wasn t sure, as a teenager, if it was her
imagination. He was famous for his family man persona and she was just a young model. She
was afraid if she said something she would be criticized for trying to deface Cosby s image,
being accused that she was just lying to get attention and publicity. Her story had been published a
handful of times before Burress s accusation but only now is it taking actual hold in the media. His
comment along with accusations from several women created a public outcry. Barbara Bowman is
not alone with her experience, a handful of other women, actresses and

Responses To Sexual Rejection
There isn t a lot of research done on where the origins of sexual rejection stem form. Women are
not usually seen as the ones making the advances like men are. Responses to sexual rejection are
different for men and women. A sample of 67 men and 65 women completed a questionnaire filled
with hypothetical situations where sexual rejection occurs.
Purpose of Research:
The aim of the study was to discover if responses to sexual rejection varied by gender; how do
positive emotions to sexual rejection occur and how do they balance with negative emotions; how
are these responses explained? Understanding responses to sexual rejection can help stop them from
escalating into lasting negative states such as low self esteem, depression, uncontrolled ... Show

These guideline include defining: who s involved, planned behavior, and how to perceive and
inform others of what is expected. Violations of these guideline illicit many negative responses but
can also create positive ones. The sexual scripts that men and women have are not the same because
of how they attach meanings to different situations, this is why their responses to sexual rejection
vary.
Women were found to be more sensitive to sexual rejection than men. In 1992 three researchers
(Metts, Cupach, and Imahori) found that women felt more uncomfortable and would hold back
from future sexual advances because of sexual rejection. Then a year later, in 1993 a different team
of researchers (Baumeister, Wotman, and Stillwell), discovered that women tend to experience
unrequited love as more painful than men did. Women feel sexual rejection on a more emotional
level so it affects them later on when they want to make another sexual advance.
The nature between the persons involved also has an effect on the emotional reactions to rejection.
When there is mutual sexual interest the response to sexual rejection will be completely different
than that of someone you just met. Whether sexual intercourse previously took place complicates
how someone would react to sexual

In October 2016, the world was acquainted with the principal Internet of Things malware, which is
a strain of malware that can contaminate connected devices, for example, DVRs, security cameras

Switches will turn out to be more secure and more quick witted
Since a majority of these devices dwell in the home, and they can t have security software
introduced on them, they are extremely helpless against assaults. With the surge of the IoT fever in

now and again, security can be neglected. This is the place the home switch assumes a critical part.
The switch is basically the section purpose of the Internet into your home. While the connected

Monopolies Essay
A monopoly is a firm that has no rivals in the market. It can decide on the prices and quantity it
wants. It set the prices that suit it. It aims at making profit at the expenses of consumers and at the
expenses of other firms. Therefore monopolies are owned by wealthy people who are willing to do
everything they can to keep their power. Some monopolies don t mind using their networks and
connections to influence politicians, decision makers, and policy makers. Monopolies are
sometimes, in some countries synonym with corruption. Monopolies are willing to invest their
profit in order to keep their positions and their grasp of the market. In monopolistic models, high
barriers entries exist. It is not easy to enter the market. If some firms manage to enter the market,
monopolies create strategies to stop them by lowering their prices so that the new firms don t make
any profit and find themselves bankrupt. Monopolies usually offer products that don t present any

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with
one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not
comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing
that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and
kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no
boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your
significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your
significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was
nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and
expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let
me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in
contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always
comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and
never minded the time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another

Hippocampus belongs to the limbic system of the brain. In 1960, O Keefe and Lynn Nadel

Procedure Of Completing The Tender
Once the contracting company has been selected through a single or two stage tender. The
procedure of completing the tender and actually getting the project is the next step. Tender
process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are
several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the
tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important
to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract,
explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build
tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and
completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know
what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it
comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client
is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as
possible but still have the best result. So by giving details for the commencement and completion
of the project gives the client an idea when it would be done by and they can decide if that is in the
same timescale they d want the project done by. After defining the contract, the contract conditions
follow. The contract conditions

Albus Dumbledore said to Harry once, It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
Dumbledore was attempting to teach Harry the importance of recognizing what he had been blessed
with, rather than focusing on the objects of his imagination. Many of Dumbledore s ideals bare a

Research Of Consumption Patterns And Wealth Accumulation
Research linking consumption patterns and wealth accumulation has focused on the US
(Gourinchas and Parker, 2002; Cagetti, 2003). However, given the large difference in capital to
income ratios between the US and UK (Piketty and Zucman, 2014), it is possible that UK wealth
accumulation dynamics differ from those in the US. Hence, the strength and timing of the
precautionary and life cycle savings motives in the UK require further exploration.
However, UK data on wealth are ``seriously incomplete (Crossley and O Dea, 2016) and hence
econometric analysis is impossible. This is because cross sectional data cannot be used to analyse
life cycle consumption behaviour (Banks, Dilnot and Low, 1994) and WAS, the only UK panel

Furthermore, there is a large literature regarding the role of the income distribution (Parker {it et
al.}, 2013; Broda and Parker, 2014), liquidity (Agarwal and Qian, 2014; Kreiner {it et al.}, 2016)
and employment status (Japelli and Pistaferri, 2014) in determining the consumption response to
fiscal stimulus. However, few authors consider the role the wealth distribution has to play in
determining the efficacy of fiscal policy.
When work has been conducted, it has often yielded counterintuitive results. In particular, Kaplan
and Violante (2014) fail to find a strong relationship between wealth and the marginal propensity to
consume out of transitory shocks to income (MPC), contrary to empirical evidence from Japelli
and Pistaferri (2014) that the MPC is strongly negatively related to levels of cash on hand. Indeed,
recent work by Carroll {it et al.} (2016) estimates that the MPC is declining in wealth percentile.
Consequently, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the effectiveness of wealth targeted
fiscal policy. Furthermore, no studies have been conducted that examine the relative effectiveness
of wealth targeting and income targeting. This paper is a step in addressing these two questions.
Finally, it is common for economists to use existing root finding

The Legality And Morality Of Abortion
The legality and morality of abortion is a huge topic in today s society. Are there ever times
when it is justified? Who has a say in the matter of whether or not it is justified? How does one
know how to justify abortion? Given a particular pregnancy, who should decide whether or not it
ought to be terminated? (Jaggar, 218) People argue over whether or not the unborn child has the
right to life or does the woman have the right to her own body. Other party s possibly involved are
the state, medical practitioners performing the abortion, and, of course, the father. There are clearly
several parties that have a stake in being involved in the decision.
In this paper I will be analyzing an article written by one woman that believes that there do exist
conditions under which the termination of a pregnancy could be justified. Furthermore she believes
that the right to that decision making belongs to the woman bearing the unborn child. In her article
she choses not to include utilitarian arguments for two reasons, first because, according to her, most
of them support her argument. Her second reason was that the main opposing utilitarian argument
would likely result in the involuntary termination of pregnancies by the state for reasons of
population control in todays society. Not only are there many people that might have a say in
whether or not an abortion should be performed but also there are many circumstances that could

looks. In both the book and the movie, the family has a large garden in which many animals live
(movie). Especially, in the movie, you can see that the bungalow and the surrounding garden are
all beautiful and that the family really loves living in such a beautiful place. In the book, the
picture of the bungalow shows that it is a beautiful place to live in (Kipling 145). A difference
between the setting in the book and the movie is that in the book it describes the garden, around
the bungalow, as having flowers and a lot of beautiful trees and flowers. On the other hand, the
movie shows that the garden has a lot of bamboo and not many flowers and not a lot of color.
The resolution is the movie and the resolution in the story Rikki Tikki Tavi are very similar and
only slightly different. In the book, the resolution is that the family is very grateful for Rikki Tikki
because he saved the whole family s lives and that Rikki Tikki will always keep the garden safe.
The story says, Rikki tikki had a right to be

Pete Rose In The Cincinnati Reds Hall Of Fame
Recently in July 2016, Pete Rose was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and his
number, 14, was retired by the organization (Pete Rose Inducted into Cincinnati Reds Hall of
Fame). There has always been a lot of controversy surrounding Rose, but the Reds finally took a
step that should have been taken a long time ago, they honored one of the best players to play
for their organization. It is time for the baseball Hall of Fame to do the same. Rose s Hall of Fame
story started September 1985, during a game at the Red s home field. During this game, Pete
Rose got a hit. Hits were no big deal in Rose s career; however, this one was different. This was hit
number 4,192 for Rose. He had just broken the hits record (The Pete Rose Controversy).... Show

His name has been tarnished by the reports that he ruined a sacred game. The MLB does not
have to lift the ban on Rose, they shouldn t. Rose did in fact break a rule that he was warned
about time and time again. However, the baseball Hall of Fame should change their rule and
allow Rose be into the Hall. Pete Rose s being entered into the Hall of Fame would not mean that
he would be forgiven for betting on baseball games. It would not mean that betting on baseball
games is an okay action to commit. It would simply mean that the accomplishments that Rose
achieved on the baseball field are recognized and the mark that he left on the history of the sport is

The Wedding Wyspianski
The Wedding by Stanislaw Wyspianski is considered one of the most important pieces of
literature of Poland. The play focuses on a wedding of an urban elite groom and his peasant bride.
The period of this play is that of the failed uprising of November 1830, and January 1863 in
retaliation of the Partitions of Poland. Although the focus of this play, it can be argued that many
aspects, including the legendary characters, the play focuses on the uncertainty of Poland s future
due to these unsuccessful uprisings. One such legendary character is the Chochol, which is a
bundle of straws wrapped around a rose bush and sealed off with a sack to prevent the roses from
freezing over in the winter. The Chochol is an inanimate objects yet in the play... Show more

The Chochol does not want them to dance alone, or experience the music alone. The Chochol
wants the guests to enjoy the music or culture together, as a nation. A culture cannot survive if
only one person is engaging in it, it must be a group effort to allow it to survive. It also
commands Jasiek to say a prayer backward which can be thought to change the fate of the future.
A prayer is said to a higher being and as stated before the guests are in Dread and Terror because
they heard the voices of the Spirit, the prayer might be a way of starting communication with the
Spirit. Perhaps this will make the Spirit reconsider the fate and perhaps dictate another fate for
the people. Furthermore, the prayer must be said backwards, this can signify that the bets course
of action according to the Chochol is if time went backwards. This can have some negative
implication in terms of development but the nation would be free if time went backwards. What is
causing these people agony is the fact that they are not free and have been fighting for years. If
going backwards would allow them freedom and happiness, it is the best thing that can occur. The
Chochol specifies that they will dance

Examples Of Superego In The Dark Night
Film has been able to translate these examples through their main characters and their behaviour.
For example, in the movie The Dark Night (Nolan, 2008) , the Ego is represented by Batman
(Bruce Wayne) who wants to keep order even if his methods are questionable by others. The
Joker represents the Id; he is determined to show that all people are selfish monsters inside out.
Harvey Dent, who remains over evil and chaos, looking for justice, would represent the Super
Ego. Roy Scheider as police Chief Brody will try to protect the citizens of Amity. A similar
example can be found in the movie Jaws (Spielberg, 1975). The Superego is represented by
Hooper, who in order to hunt sharks adopts a methodical and rational approach. Quin represents
the Id, prone to anger, grudges and vendettas. Brody, who acts as a mediator between Hooper
and Quin, would represent the Ego. The Id is completely controlled by the pleasure principle ,
which is continuously searching to release the tension caused by any given process by the
avoidance of pain and the production of pleasure (Freud, 1975). Freud explains that kid s Id
controls the great majority of their behaviour. They look to satisfy urges such as food and water as
a way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The protagonist is unable to use his penis due to an injury. The casts, the object that stops the use
of his phallus, resurfaces this fear. The camera that he uses to espy on his neighbours acts as a
substitute for his lost penis in order to repress the castration anxiety and allows him to experiment
Scopophilia . This refers to the pleasure of looking without being acknowledged. Freud considers
this to be a regular instinct in childhood. Voyeurism and the male gaze were central elements of
this tendency and they can be both appreciated in Rear Window , where everything is told from the
masculine point of view in a position of power, because he watches without being

Eye Contact Evaluation
I give Eye Contact 3 of 5 stars. The film begins with a teenage girl jogging towards and then into
a lighthouse. The character s name is not established. Once in the lighthouse, she looks out the
window, and sees a figure standing at its base. She looks at it for a minute, before going back
down and deciding to leave. On her way out, she sees the figure now standing at the top of the
lighthouse. She runs off again, and on her way, she sees the figure. She finally gets to the end of
the path and into a dirt road, seeing the figure again, but this time much closer. She screams before
runningoff. She continues to run for a while, seeing the figure many times on her way. The jogger
gets to her home, closing and locking the door, and goes to

What to Do with Howard
Taleisha LaCroix
MGT 362
What Do We Do with Howard?
Agrigreen, Inc. has done a lot of moving employees from one position to another. Either
someone chose to retire or step down, or they were promoted or transferred. Howard is a guy
who obviously does not see himself the way others may see him. They simply have different
perceptions. Howards seems like a man who tried his very best at one point. His best performance
may not be equal to another persons best performance. He was often teased due to the perception of
having no work ethic. Not identifying that trait within himself, Howard felt out casted around the
work place and seemed to display some acceptance issues. Even when he found someone that he
could relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one attempted to identify the problem.
Howard Lineberry, Lead Surveyor
Lineberry had some education. The education that he had received was not enough to
demonstrate efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first
supervisor to accomplish the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and
guidance. Without the proper guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his
first supervisor to his actions with his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack
of performance satisfaction. This dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the
work on his own. He had little to no guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived
that his first boss was a tough one, Howard got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance
and direction that was given. This was a form of daily training. He made an honest attempt to do
well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things were just different. Howard didn t fit into this
organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did not have any values but I will venture to say
that he did not share the same values and beliefs that many of the other workers shared. The
leaders and other employees were paying attention to work ethic and competence. If Howard is a
worker worth keeping, then behavior modification would help. The use of an

Aaron Copland Music Analysis
Aaron Copland is a twentieth century American composer, teacher, and conductor. Schuman
(1980), refers to Copland as the Dean of American Composers , which he attributes to his stylistic
contributions to American culture including film. His works includes songs, chamber music,
ballets, theater, symphony orchestra, solos, and chorus. Copland s approach to composing
included twelve tone, a basic exhibition of serialism. Crawford Hamberlin (2013), describe this
style as organizing twelve pitches of the chromatic scale into a unique pattern. This method
expressed a way of organizing notes freely, without focusing on a key center. To non musical ears,
the atonality heard is interpreted as strange, exotic, or in some cases esthetically pleasing. Copland
s musical influence includes his time in Paris during the 1920 s with Stravinsky, a Russian
Nationalist. Stravinsky s style was inclusive of traditional Russian folk music, evident in his ballet
Petrushka (Navarro 2011).
Copland composed Outdoor Overture in 1938, as a request from Alexander Richter, Director of
Music at the High School of Music and Arts in New York City. Pease (2015), attributes the
inspiration behind this composition from Richter s campaign: American Music for American
Youth. The score (APPENDIX A), shares program notes, along with an extended synopsis of the
piece. The basis for Outdoor Overture, is a theme expressed initially by the upper woodwinds and
strings (APPENDIX B). The idea is introduced

  • 3. The Roman and U.S. Military The Roman Republic military was one of the first well organized military of all time. Because of this, most succeeding militaries follow their example by adopting and adapting some of the same characteristics. The Roman and U.S. military are from different eras, but still share similar characteristics as well as vast modernized differences that have established the U.S. militaryas efficient and organized. Separating a military into unique specialized forces increases efficiency and the Romans knew that. The Roman legions consisted of: 10 cohorts to one legion, six centuries to one cohort, 10 tents to one cohort, eight soldiers to one tent, 120 cavalry (Lloyd, 2013). The Roman formation was the triplex acies, which was the hastati,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The U.S. military uniforms are completely different from the Roman Republic; nothing is the same except for the use of a helmet. Warfare has changed since the ancient times and with that change, what soldiers wear for protection had to change as well. The consistency of the same soldier is to maintain experienced soldiers. Constantly training new soldiers is a waste of time and money. Nations worldwide for every era understood the concept of a time in which soldiers must serve in the military. In the Roman Republic, it changed throughout the years. At first soldiers had to stay for six years with ten years nonconsecutive. Later it was changed to twenty years, but after the sixteenth year, the soldier was considered a veteran. The final change was twenty years with an additional five years as a veteran (Southern, 2006). Even though the Romans were very strict on the soldiers, the army was superior to any other nation because of this consistency in soldiers. The U.S. military is vastly different with their length of service. Citizens can be in the military for active or inactive duty, they can also be in the reserves where they would only be deployed if necessary. Soldiers can also have contracts depending on the branch for two, four, six, or eight years. Soldiers can also do tours of duty for a length of time. There is also the possibility of having a long time career in the military. The U.S. military has a larger span of options to choose from for the length of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Coli And The General Mills Outbreak Essay Introduction to E. Coli and the General Mills Outbreak. After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5, 2016, the FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak which were various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016, General Mills led a voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and E. coli O26. E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and are found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness. Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria. According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days after consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However, the most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may experience more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). In this particular case, due to the nature of the product, the long shelf life of flour and the tendency for consumers to store the product for long periods before consumption, it is most likely that ... Future Of Fdi During The Oil And Gas Sector Essay Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country s wealth to other country. But some believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there are so much investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has showed sign of rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all assets are not handled by foreign companies. But some economists believe the rules and regulations of the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms, because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the Gray report puts forward the following policy which suggest Canadians to posses high command over the business and environment, increase the profit and reduce the harm of foreign direct investment, and to hold and expand Canadian control where there is need and can be controlled. It was in this position that Snowden began to notice some classified documents that didn t make sense. These documents contained information on the National SecurityAgency illegally spying on their own citizens. It was at this time in 2012 that Snowden began downloading some of these files for himself. It is estimated that he downloaded somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 files on the espionage efforts of the United States (Borrough, Ellison, Andrews, 2014). Now, Snowden needed to get the files out to the people. He attempted to contact a few media outlets around the world who would not go through the trouble to follow his strict encryption methods. Snowden eventually contacted documentarian Laura Poitras, who had recently written an article on a separate whistleblower that caught Snowden s attention. Poitras states in an interview with Salon.com that, ...he d contacted me because my border harassment meant that I d been a person who had been selected. • 9. The Destructors Analysis Stephen Alexander Smith Miss Shackel AP English Literature 13 September 2017 A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards referred to (Greene 116). • 12. Blood Vessels Lab Report Introduction The main types of blood vessels in the systemic system are arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and venules. In this experiment, the main blood vessels that were explored in depth were the arteries and the veins. An artery is a muscular or elastic tube that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the tissues of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary, which carries oxygen to the lungs for oxygenation and removal of excess carbon dioxide. A vein is a type of blood vessel that transports oxygen depleted blood to the right atrium of the heart. In a blood vessel, the diameter is extremely important. It can affect the movement of blood flow. The diameter is one of the three sources of resistance, and it is intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The clay may not have flattened enough when used as a seal in part two. The straw may not have been exactly half way up the cup, and the water my not have been exactly three quarters full. Also, the depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab. Moreover, the seal may have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for more pressure that was not intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in the straw, air built up inside. Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure compared to veins. If plaque were to build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it experiences would force it to pop. This lab illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there is an obstruction, more pressure (in this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the straw. In a blood vessel, even when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces more plaque to stick. To maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be applied, even at the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant flow of blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important to keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as possible. The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case air) had to flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood vessel. The seal was supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin wall that is present in veins. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Enkidu As A Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu helps act as a catalyst for the transformation of Gilgamesh s character from an undefeatable god like brute into a complex thinker. In the eyes of Gilgamesh, he is unstoppable and is willing to challenge death itself so long as he is remembered as a hero by his subjects. With Enkidus help, Gilgamesh learns to become a better person as a ruler, not as a better warrior. Although not blood related, Enkidu was like a brother to Gilgamesh and the duo shared an inseparable bond. Throughout the epic, Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh that he is not unstoppable, being stubborn will not stop him from dying, and that there are no easy solutions to life. At the beginning of the epic, before Enkidu is introduced, Gilgamesh is described by the narrator as godly and fit for Uruk s throne by default. These descriptions are vital in order to interpret how the villagers feel and also to perceive just how mighty Enkidu has to be in order to rival Gilgamesh. Supreme over other kings, lordly in appearance, /he is the hero, born of Uruk, the goring wild bull. /He walks out in front, the leader, / (1. 27 29). The narrator speaks extremely fondly to emphasize just how mighty the main character is and that no other men in any of the nearby regions seem to come close when the level of their manliness is compared to that of Gilgamesh. The use of the words Supreme and Lordly indicate that in Gilgamesh s point of view, he is doing an excellent job of reigning over his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Intrigue of the Book of Danie Book of Daniel The Book of Daniel is one of the most intriguing books found in the Bible. To know God s plan for the future it is necessary that you understand the book of Daniel. Daniel can be divided into two segments of six chapters each. Chapters 1 6 are made up primarily of a historical narrative that explains how Danielcame to be in King Nebuchadnezzar s royal court and his rise to power. Chapters 7 12 are of an apocalyptic genre in which Daniel receives visions concerning the future and the kingdom of God. The book of Danielimplies that Daniel was its author in a few key passages, such as 10:2 and 12:4. JesusChrist also attributed to this indication via the quote Daniel the Prophet in Matthew 24:14. In questioning of the original date for the composition of the book, two views prevail: 1) The book was written in the 2nd century BC in Judea or 2) It was written in the 6th century BC in Babylon by a Jewish exile name Daniel. The book sets its own historical timetable of composition around 535 BC through such references as Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Cyrus (Hindson Towns, 2013). The key theme throughout the book of Daniel is the reassurance of God sovereignty over the kingdoms of men (Daniel 4:17, KJV). The purpose of this book was to of encourage faithful living among God s people by demonstrating His faithfulness and giving hope to those exiled from Jerusalem. God blesses those who put their faith in him in spite of danger or difficulty. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The field of nuclear chemistry deals with radioactive elements such as radium, radon and the whole actinides series and the equipment to deal with such elements; such as nuclear reactors. However the subject itself varies because it deals with the scientific areas such as physics, biology, geology and chemistry. Nuclear chemistry has help us discover more about the nucleus and has provided advances in medicine, nuclear weapons and instruments to help scientists in those fields. 1, 2 Nuclear chemistry focuses on creating electrical energy for power generation and, in some cases, propel ships. This electrical energy generation comes from the nuclear reactors in nuclear power plants. Nuclear reactors are built to start up and contain a nuclear chain reaction. These nuclear chain reactions can come in two forms: linear chain reaction and a critical mass. Both reactions are caused by nuclear fission; this is when then nuclei of certain isotopes are bombarded with neutrons, causing them to split into smaller fragments of the nuclei: smaller atoms, a staggering amount of energy and spare neutrons. Since neutrons have no charge, they can pass through the energy fields of the electrons and protons. A linear chain reaction is a series of nuclear fissions going in one straight line. In a linear chain reaction, some of the spare neutrons, caused by fission, produced will hit other nuclei and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Rosa Parks Impact On Civil Rights Rosa Parks was a strong, powerful woman who was one of the well known Civil Rights figures during the Civil Rights Movement. She sparked the movement by refusing to leave the seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, which caused her to get arrested. Due to this action, it has encouraged African Americans to protest discrimination in public facilities and demand equal rights. Although most historians discussed Parks impact on social justice, they did not discuss Parks involvement of fighting against sexual violence. African American women were raped by white men in southern states since the beginnings of slavery. White men were able to get away with the crime because black women were unable to seek justice against rapists because of discrimination. Parks did not let them get away with the crime, so she helped black women seek justice against them. Parks action has helped encourage women to step out of their shadows and address the issues of rapeculture in the southern states. Parks achievement of fighting sexual violence in the black community was uncommon in American history, but it is important for people to be informed about the cruelty of rape culture. To start with Parks involvement against rape, Parks had experienced discrimination and violence at an early age. Most African American children were aware of racism throughout the southern states. Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of this. In our Taming of the Shrew this is no different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which marry his daughters. Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to marry him and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes a charade of marriage. I agree when CoppГ©lia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example of Shakespeare s attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage. As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet never really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage. Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as ... • 22. The Truth About Pancreatic Cancer Essay 1.1Pancreatic cancer Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease that is ranked fourth among cancer related deaths in Norway. 31 Yearly 600 650 new cases are detected, corresponding to 7 per 100 000 inhabitant. The survival rate five years after diagnosis is very low, at only 5 %. 19 Approximately 90 % of patients diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer survive less than one year, with a median survival of 5 6 months. The high mortality rate is connected to late diagnosis, early metastasis and poor response to chemo and radiotherapy. 34 Pancreatic cancer can be inherited, but 90 % of cases are considered sporadic. 19 The major histological type of pancreatic cancer is ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma which account for 80 % of the ... Only 5 10 % of patients have a family history of the disease. 19 It has been shown that in families with four or more cases of pancreatic cancer the risk of disease is 57 times higher than in families with no history of disease. 19 1.1.2Stage and diagnostics Pancreatic cancer tumors are staged according to tumor node metastasis (TNM) classifications of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The staging of tumors is based on tumor size and localization, and connected to resectability. 19 Further staging reflect whether lymph node metastasis (N stage) or distant metastasis (M stage) are present. Various pollutants generated and deposited in the urban regions are washed off to the receiving waters during storm events, resulting in receiving water quality degradation. The impacts on receiving water quality degradation include elevated toxicity, algal blooms and excessive sedimentation. Thus, use of stormwater pollution mitigation strategies to improve the quality of receiving waters has become increasingly important. Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) is the stormwater management philosophy adopted in Australia. The aims of WSUD are to manage stormwater quality and quantity to minimise the impacts of urban developments on the surrounding environment (Lloyd et al., 2002). WSUD concepts are developed to provide technically effective, more economical and less environmentally damaging solutions for stormwater management. However, there are barriers in widespread implementation of WSUD. In this regard, the long term viability of implemented WSUD systems are perceived with high level of importance (Lloyd et al., 2002). The primary concern is that the treatment systems adopted in WSUD approach are typically

  • 27. Effects Of Expenditure On Terrorism Expenditure on Terrorism The money that has been spent by the United States to counter terrorism is over exaggerated and does not reflect value for money. No one can dispute that terrorism is a unique kind of threat and it is evil. However, the money spent in this area is exaggerated in both official mind and the public. The risk of death from a terrorist attack in the United States today is very minimal. The danger in itself is remote with a low probability of happening. For instance, since 1970, only 3305 United States citizens have been killed by terrorism. If 9/11 fatalities are deducted from this figure, the number drops to 397. Therefore, the ratio of being killed by terrorism is 1:110,000,000. In 2010, 3841 people died from drowning, 32,999 in car accidents, 2791 from malnutrition, 38,369 from suicide and 29 from lighting (Sherry 3). In the same year, only four deaths from terrorism were reported by the government. The cases of terrorism are of lone wolf variety which America has faced for years. Therefore, what is needed is to come up with tactics for dealing with the same old problem. The whole issue of ISIS threat is overhyped, and it is usually a tactic used by the government to justify its expenditure on counterterrorism. The sexual scripts that men and women have are not the same because of how they attach meanings to different situations, this is why their responses to sexual rejection vary. Women were found to be more sensitive to sexual rejection than men. In 1992 three researchers (Metts, Cupach, and Imahori) found that women felt more uncomfortable and would hold back from future sexual advances because of sexual rejection. Then a year later, in 1993 a different team of researchers (Baumeister, Wotman, and Stillwell), discovered that women tend to experience unrequited love as more painful than men did. Women feel sexual rejection on a more emotional level so it affects them later on when they want to make another sexual advance. Tender process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract, explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as possible but still have the best result. • 45. Pete Rose In The Cincinnati Reds Hall Of Fame Recently in July 2016, Pete Rose was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and his number, 14, was retired by the organization (Pete Rose Inducted into Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame). There has always been a lot of controversy surrounding Rose, but the Reds finally took a step that should have been taken a long time ago, they honored one of the best players to play for their organization. It is time for the baseball Hall of Fame to do the same. Rose s Hall of Fame story started September 1985, during a game at the Red s home field. During this game, Pete Rose got a hit. Hits were no big deal in Rose s career; however, this one was different. This was hit number 4,192 for Rose. He had just broken the hits record (The Pete Rose Controversy).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His name has been tarnished by the reports that he ruined a sacred game. The MLB does not have to lift the ban on Rose, they shouldn t. Rose did in fact break a rule that he was warned about time and time again. However, the baseball Hall of Fame should change their rule and allow Rose be into the Hall. Pete Rose s being entered into the Hall of Fame would not mean that he would be forgiven for betting on baseball games. It would not mean that betting on baseball games is an okay action to commit. It would simply mean that the accomplishments that Rose achieved on the baseball field are recognized and the mark that he left on the history of the sport is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Wedding Wyspianski The Wedding by Stanislaw Wyspianski is considered one of the most important pieces of literature of Poland. The play focuses on a wedding of an urban elite groom and his peasant bride. The period of this play is that of the failed uprising of November 1830, and January 1863 in retaliation of the Partitions of Poland. Although the focus of this play, it can be argued that many aspects, including the legendary characters, the play focuses on the uncertainty of Poland s future due to these unsuccessful uprisings. One such legendary character is the Chochol, which is a bundle of straws wrapped around a rose bush and sealed off with a sack to prevent the roses from freezing over in the winter. The Chochol is an inanimate objects yet in the play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chochol does not want them to dance alone, or experience the music alone. The Chochol wants the guests to enjoy the music or culture together, as a nation. A culture cannot survive if only one person is engaging in it, it must be a group effort to allow it to survive. It also commands Jasiek to say a prayer backward which can be thought to change the fate of the future. A prayer is said to a higher being and as stated before the guests are in Dread and Terror because they heard the voices of the Spirit, the prayer might be a way of starting communication with the Spirit. Perhaps this will make the Spirit reconsider the fate and perhaps dictate another fate for the people. Furthermore, the prayer must be said backwards, this can signify that the bets course of action according to the Chochol is if time went backwards. This can have some negative implication in terms of development but the nation would be free if time went backwards. What is causing these people agony is the fact that they are not free and have been fighting for years. If going backwards would allow them freedom and happiness, it is the best thing that can occur. • 47. Examples Of Superego In The Dark Night Film has been able to translate these examples through their main characters and their behaviour. For example, in the movie The Dark Night (Nolan, 2008) , the Ego is represented by Batman (Bruce Wayne) who wants to keep order even if his methods are questionable by others. The Joker represents the Id; he is determined to show that all people are selfish monsters inside out. Harvey Dent, who remains over evil and chaos, looking for justice, would represent the Super Ego. Roy Scheider as police Chief Brody will try to protect the citizens of Amity. A similar example can be found in the movie Jaws (Spielberg, 1975). The Superego is represented by Hooper, who in order to hunt sharks adopts a methodical and rational approach. Quin represents the Id, prone to anger, grudges and vendettas. Brody, who acts as a mediator between Hooper and Quin, would represent the Ego. The Id is completely controlled by the pleasure principle , which is continuously searching to release the tension caused by any given process by the avoidance of pain and the production of pleasure (Freud, 1975). Freud explains that kid s Id controls the great majority of their behaviour. They look to satisfy urges such as food and water as a way... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camera that he uses to espy on his neighbours acts as a substitute for his lost penis in order to repress the castration anxiety and allows him to experiment Scopophilia . This refers to the pleasure of looking without being acknowledged. Freud considers this to be a regular instinct in childhood. Voyeurism and the male gaze were central elements of this tendency and they can be both appreciated in Rear Window , where everything is told from the masculine point of view in a position of power, because he watches without being ... • 48. Eye Contact Evaluation I give Eye Contact 3 of 5 stars. The film begins with a teenage girl jogging towards and then into a lighthouse. The character s name is not established. Once in the lighthouse, she looks out the window, and sees a figure standing at its base. She looks at it for a minute, before going back down and deciding to leave. On her way out, she sees the figure now standing at the top of the lighthouse. She runs off again, and on her way, she sees the figure. She finally gets to the end of the path and into a dirt road, seeing the figure again, but this time much closer. She screams before runningoff. She continues to run for a while, seeing the figure many times on her way. The jogger gets to her home, closing and locking the door, and goes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. What to Do with Howard Taleisha LaCroix MGT 362 What Do We Do with Howard? Agrigreen, Inc. has done a lot of moving employees from one position to another. Either someone chose to retire or step down, or they were promoted or transferred. Howard is a guy who obviously does not see himself the way others may see him. They simply have different perceptions. Howards seems like a man who tried his very best at one point. His best performance may not be equal to another persons best performance. He was often teased due to the perception of having no work ethic. Not identifying that trait within himself, Howard felt out casted around the work place and seemed to display some acceptance issues. Even when he found someone that he could relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No one attempted to identify the problem. Howard Lineberry, Lead Surveyor Lineberry had some education. The education that he had received was not enough to demonstrate efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first supervisor to accomplish the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and guidance. Without the proper guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his first supervisor to his actions with his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack of performance satisfaction. This dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the work on his own. He had little to no guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived that his first boss was a tough one, Howard got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance and direction that was given. This was a form of daily training. He made an honest attempt to do well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things were just different. Howard didn t fit into this organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did not have any values but I will venture to say that he did not share the same values and beliefs that many of the other workers shared. The leaders and other employees were paying attention to work ethic and competence. If Howard is a worker worth keeping, then behavior modification would help. The use of an ... • 50. Aaron Copland Music Analysis Aaron Copland is a twentieth century American composer, teacher, and conductor. Schuman (1980), refers to Copland as the Dean of American Composers , which he attributes to his stylistic contributions to American culture including film. His works includes songs, chamber music, ballets, theater, symphony orchestra, solos, and chorus. Copland s approach to composing included twelve tone, a basic exhibition of serialism. Crawford Hamberlin (2013), describe this style as organizing twelve pitches of the chromatic scale into a unique pattern. This method expressed a way of organizing notes freely, without focusing on a key center. To non musical ears, the atonality heard is interpreted as strange, exotic, or in some cases esthetically pleasing. Copland s musical influence includes his time in Paris during the 1920 s with Stravinsky, a Russian Nationalist. Stravinsky s style was inclusive of traditional Russian folk music, evident in his ballet Petrushka (Navarro 2011). Copland composed Outdoor Overture in 1938, as a request from Alexander Richter, Director of Music at the High School of Music and Arts in New York City. Pease (2015), attributes the inspiration behind this composition from Richter s campaign: American Music for American Youth. The score (APPENDIX A), shares program notes, along with an extended synopsis of the piece. The basis for Outdoor Overture, is a theme expressed initially by the upper woodwinds and strings (APPENDIX B). The idea is introduced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
