Just Following Orders
On 16 March 1968 between three hundred and five hundred Vietnamese children, women, and
elderly citizens in the village of My Lai were raped, killed, and had their homes and livelihoods
destroyed by Charlie Company because of the orders given by one man. Lieutenant William Laws
Calley Junior. Calley grew up in a very conservative town where he eventually enlisted in the Army
after several unsuccessful endeavors. Later he went through OCS and became a Platoon Leader for
Charlie Company. His military career leading up to My Lai was relatively lackluster; he did not
have the respect of his troops or his commander, Captain Ernest Medina. In Vietnam, ... Show more

Lieutenant Calley grew up in Columbus, George near Fort Benning. Columbus is a staunchly
conservative town of nearly 180,000 people, where a huge billboard proclaims JESUS IS
LORD. With landmarks like Arsenal Place and newsstand offerings like the Bayonet and Army
Times, it sometimes suggests a military theme park (Unger). After Calley finished high school he
decided to go to college but ended up doing poorly. He moved through several jobs unsuccessfully
eventually enlisting in the military. With his firm conservative background, it is no surprise that
as the Vietnam War grew and he was unsuccessful in all his other endeavors that he would enlist.
He went to basic training at Fort Benning then after which he was transferred to Fort Lewis,
Washington where he trained as a clerk typist (Biography). Calley applied to Officer Candidate
School, was accepted and completed it in 1967.
Calley was described to be an average officer. His training was cut short and sent to Vietnam.
The Vietnam war was characterized by a lack of public support on the home front, and thus
carried over to a war fighting force that was less than happy to be there and even less likely to act
like the military members that had been seen in past wars. The overall culture of the war was very
different. The war also used indiscriminant bombings with napalm. Villages were destroyed even
with civilians in them just to eliminate a few Viet Cong fighters.

The American Film Industry
The American film industry is one of the most far reaching and influential businesses in today s
world. Movies constantly spawn franchises which have die hard fans lined up for hours just to get
a ticket for a movie that is months away. The celebrities in our movies are elevated to a position of
super fame. It is the nature to a human to adapt to conditions over a given period of time.
Adaptation continues through into our entertainment as well. Audiences are becoming accustomed
to seeing the same things on the screen over and over again. Filmmakers are constantly trying to
keep audiences entertained, which is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Today s general film
going audience quickly becomes bored and seeks more stimulation from the movies.
Computer generated images or CGI has been a chief method to keep modern audiences
entertained, while being cost effective to practical effects. With the recent use of CGI in movies,
anything has become possible. The use for practical effects is minimal to nearly non existent
since Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 first showed the wide spectrum of what was possible. It is
increasingly common for films to focus more on the visual effects, than the story of the film itself.
Some notable examples of this are the Transformers series of movies, and Star WarsEpisode I: The
Phantom Menace. In the Transformers series the films focus on the action scenes of CGI robots.
Human characters in this story often take a back seat to their film

Lufthansa Case Study Essay
Lufthansa Case Study
Lufthansa Case Study I. External Analysis:Several large scale, interrelated conditions have affected
the airline industry over the past several years in such a manner that every carrier has had to
respond in order to remain viable and competitive. a. Environmental Analysis: The international war
on terror, with its attendant rising cost of oil has created havoc in a number of ways (Lufthansa
Annual Report, 2004). Rising costs have resulted from the increase in fuel prices. Customer check
in wait times and flight time delays have resulted from new regulations designed to ensure
passenger and plane safety, including more rigorous bag searches, more extensive passenger

The very size of the company threatens to cause it ongoing trouble, as it must deal with
problems around the globe on an ongoing basis and must remain flexible with a behemoth
corporate organism. III. Strategic Intent and Mission: Lufthansa has restructured its operations
to allow it to respond quickly to problems areas and to control costs across the organization. It
has also utilized its market power to negotiate favorable contracts for products and service,
including fuel. The company has also withdrawn from unprofitable routes and simplified product
and service offerings to cut costs. Finally, it has capitalized on technology, by making flight
check ins and bookings available online to make the customer service appropriate for demands
(Moody s Investors Services, 2005). In order to compete in the future, the company must find new
ways to control costs without sacrificing infrastructure or customer service. IV. Strategy
Formulation: The effort to control costs will force the company to focus on profitable routes and
ruthlessly cut service to unprofitable areas going forward. (The company has shown a willingness
to take this sort of approach.) It will also force the company to form strong alliances with other
carriers that essentially protect its own territory by providing alliance coverage of different
markets. Company officials will have to

Leadership And Being A Leader
When it comes to leadership and being a leader I feel that a strong leader whom is inspiring is
one with a strong emotional intelligence. A leader who demands attention with strong emotion isn
t looked upon as a strong leader since they have intense drastic changes in mood which fear
followers and make people drift away. I feel that this is just a competencies that many overcome
and turn into strong leaders whom have made a big impact. A leader with a strong emotional
effectiveness often ends up on top since they are more capable of solving drastic complex problems
and are able to adapt to situations changing faster than someone without emotional intelligence
effecting them. To see a leader have a personal behavior competencies such as emotional
intelligence strike and come out on top when many feel a leader with emotionwouldn t be as strong
is boundless since it shows that strong leaders do have emotions and also do face personal issues
which make them relatable and in my opinion, more relatable/likeable since they can come to a
level of personal experience when dealing with employees or peers.
Personal Definition of Leadership
In my opinion, Leadership is someone who takes action, is influential, motivational, and has success
and partakes in equal responsibility in a group or organization. This means that as a leader they
guide and motivate team members in a positive uplifting way but if they make mistakes they
positively guide them in the correct direction. One

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Endometriomas
The primary outcome of interest was the suturing time. The secondary outcomes were total
operative time, suturing difficulty, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative complications and the
impact of surgery on ovarian reserve.
Statistical analysis
Statistical calculations were performed using Microsoft Excel 2010 (Microsoft Corporation, NY,

Results
Between December 2014 and March 2016, 86 consecutive patients with endometriomas were
assessed for eligibility. Forty one patients did not meet inclusion criteria and five patients declined
to participate in the study. Figure 1 illustrates the flow of the patients through the study.
Both groups were comparable as regard to age, body mass index, parity, indications for surgery,

Lace Up Your Shoes Essay
Quick! Look at your shoes. If your shoes have laces, they might be tied wrong. In fact, about 50%
of Americans tie their shoes the wrong way, that is, they use the wrong knot when tying their
shoes. If your laces come undone, or your bows are twisted, or you double knot your shoes to
prevent them from coming untied, then chances are, you tie your shoes the wrong way.
About two years ago I took up running. I loved my new sport and entered several running events
and races mostly 5K s. Six months into my new hobby, I decided I was a real runner and because
I was a real runner, I needed to subscribe to a real running magazine. It s a well known fact that

First you were shown how to take one lace and pass it under the other. After reading this, it dawned
on me that most of us
were taught how to tie our shoes when we were four or five years old. Our parents or siblings
taught us, but didn t necessarily teach us to do it right. If you tie your shoes wrong, don t worry. It
only takes a minor tweak to tie the right knot a Reef Knot. All shoelace knots start the same; laces
crossed over under, and then finish with a bow. However, if you finish the bow in the same
direction that you crossed the laces, you will end up with a Granny Knot. A Granny Knot has an
unbalanced bow, e.g., the bow is turned at 45 to 90 degrees and sometimes it s perfectly inline with
the shoe (see illustration below). Granny Knots usually come untied. People that tie granny knots,
granny knotters are the people you see in line at the grocery store tying their shoes. They are the
people whose shoes come untied at the most inopportune time, like the base runner rounding third
base heading for home plate in the World Series, or the marathon runner who has to stop to tie his
shoes in the middle of the race. Granny knotters tie double knots to prevent their shoes from
coming untied. This works until its time to untie the knot, and we all know how hard it can be to
untie a double knot, especially with cold hands.

Necklace Of The Necklace Summary
Mathilde was shocked, only five hundred francs? She felt as though she could not breathe.
Mathilde, are you alright? , asked Madame Forestier. Then, to both of the ladies surprise,
Mathilde clocked Madame Forestier. Oh My, oh my! , stuttered Mathilde. I am so terribly sorry,
Jeanne! , Good heavens Mathilde. However, I too am truly sorry. Neither one of the two women
knew what to say, Madame Forestier felt absolutely terrible. Mathilde, you should have just come
to me, even if it was a high dollar necklace we could have worked something out. If you would
have told me I would have been a little bitupset but it was only paste, we could have made an
agreement and continued to be friends. Mathilde didn t know what to say, she was so relieved
that she had told the truth, but she was positively ill with this news. She didn t know if she
would be able to make it home without throwing up or passing out. Mathilde, you look pale,
come, let s sit down. Madame Forestier led Mathilde to a park bench in the shade. Mathilde was
still sick about what she would have to tell her husband. Madame Forestier felt terrible that the
Louisel had lost all of their money over a silly misunderstanding. What if I gave you some
money, Mathilde. It s the least I could do. Mathilde really wanted to take the money but she
knew it would not be right. No Jeanne, it would be wrong. I lost the necklace and was too afraid to

Should Islamic Clothing Be Banned In Australia

misogyny and a culture which denies women equality (Greenwood and Christian, 2008). The media

Muslims migrants should assimilate into the Australian culture. Woodlock

Tampa Museum Of Art
Back in my school years I used to visit many historical museums, where I learned a lot about the
culture and society of the past. As I have always been interested in history and arts, all that was a
breathtaking experience for me. I believe that these museums is the best way to get closer to
lives of our ancestries and it can help us to see the world in a different way. However, to be more
knowledgeable about the world we live in, it s also extremely important to be familiar with modern
art. So this time I decided to experience something new and started searching for a museum which
would contain works of contemporary artists. Tampa Museum of Art was a great option. This

lights reflected in the surface of the river that flows near the museum. What s more, I liked the
design of the museum inside as well. There were white walls and perfect lighting, and nothing
would bother contemplation. In many museums I have visited before there was a lot of
distractions, but in this museum everything was done on the principle of simplicity, and that was
very pleasing to me. Moreover, when we came inside of the museum, it was almost empty. There
were just a few visitors, who were fascinated by various drawings and statues. Most of the visitors
were teenagers, what slightly surprised me. I

But they get the message that sex is risky. They begin to see sex as a sensitive issue that should be
taken very seriously because it involves life changing consequences. Additionally, a study published
in the Journal of Adolescent Health found that teaching about contraception and making them
available to teenagers was not associated with increased risk of sexual activity as many abstinence
only supporters have insisted. Therefore, the availability of birth control along with education about
it does not increase sexual activity but informs teenagers to practice good decision making for their
bodies and their future.
The opponents of birth control to teens overlook the fact that providing birth control to teenage
girls would make sex much safer. Certainly, the unsteady rate of teenage pregnancies would

othello was a tradgic play. it shows many different types of feeling inWithout Trust, Love Cannot

Trust can be defined as assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or
something (Webster s 1246). In life many people are faced with the decision on who or who not to
trust, especially in the realm of love. Trust is one of the main factors needed to determine a healthy,

There are in Othello, as in life, many different types of love, with some characters displaying
different sorts of love depending on with whom they are sharing their love. Probably The Senate
scene should be studied carefully in order to reach an adequate appreciation of the frankly
declared love of these newly wedded people. Only by realizing the great depth of their love can
one grasp the enormity of Iago s hideous crime against them. Some of the commentators tell us
that it was a love in which one great soul called to another, but each reader must find his own
evidence of such a love in the lines of the play. Careful study will convince him that theirs was a
greater, deeper love than the impetuous love of Romeo and Juliet or the impassioned love of
Antony and Cleopatra. (82)
Daringly, Shakespeare opens this tragedy of love not with a direct and sympathetic portrayal of
the lovers themselves, but with a scene of vicious insinuation about their marriage. The images
employed by Iago to describe the coupling of Othello and Desdemona are revoltingly animalistic,
sodomistic. [. . .] This degraded view reduces the marriage to one of utter carnality, with repeated
emphasis on the word gross : Desdemona has yielded to the gross clasps of the lascivious Moor,
and has made a gross revolt against her family and society (II.129, 137). (218)

Claude Debussy
Impressionism is a style of music that derived in the late 19th century thanks to French
composer Claude Debussy. It was almost analogous to the impressionist art at the time, which
was supposed to leave an impression on the audience, having meaning but never a clear one. The
use of color , or timbre in the case of music, was heavily used to create the atmosphere of the
pieces, achieved by orchestration and texture. This style was seen as a response to Romanticism,
getting rid of the forward direction of standard harmonic progression, resulting in an obscure
tonality and harmony. The father of this style, Claude Debussy, was born in Saint Germain en
Laye, France on August 22, 1862, and having died in Paris on March 25, 1918. Clair de Lune ...

Developing countries are adversely affected by globalization, especially in economy area.
Globalization is a process which the world interconnection keeps increasing so it is possible to
trade or exchange cultures conveniently. In the past, it was anticipated to develop a whole of

How Water Can Affect Your Education Essay
Introduction: What is the first thing you do in the morning. Brush your teeth? Have a milo?
Have a morning run? Or even a shower? To do all of these, you have to have safe clean water
without any problems at all. Try to imagine yourself in a position without using any water at all
because it s not clean. But these aren t the only things water can affect too, it can affect your
education. Children has to walk 6 hours a day to go to the well and collect water, and because
this is an important job and takes a long time to finish, then that means that there is no time for
school. No school means no education. No education also means no job. No job means no
money. No money means that you can t pay for filtered water. And you know what happens if
you don t have filtered water Dehydration rates from all around the world is growing. Over 24
countries suffer and die from diseases of dirty water, which is 10% of the world s diseases.
3,575 people die every year only from dehydration in hospital care so you can only imagine the
number of people outside of hospital. This report will look into the statistics, problems and
solutions on how we can provide safe, drinkable water to countries in need. We have found that
hand dug wells are the best solution Solution: There are numerous solutions in the world, because
there were inventors who were inspired to help to those countries in need of safe drinkable water.

Infant s Social Communication Using A Computer System
Another study done on social development was done by Skotheim et al. (2013). Thirty nine mothers
and their infants participated in the eight week longitudinal study. The purpose of study was to
examine infant s social communication using a computer system. The mothers were asked to fill
out a questionnaire to determine the relationship of the infants temperament and the mother s
depression. The examination began when the mother and the infantwere both looking at each other
eye to eye. The mothers were told to interact with their child like if they were not at the laboratory.

A limitation that the study had was that the examiners did not take into consideration the mother s
behavior. Skotheim et al. (2013) discussed that if the behavior would have been taken into
consideration, it would have included information about the mother s acknowledgement to the
infant while the examination was happening. Another limitation was that Skotheim et al. (2013) did
not include mothers who were clinically diagnosed with depression. The mothers were only
evaluated into sub clinically depressed of non depressed. Skotheim et al. (2013) concludes that the
results showed that infants whose mothers were sub clinically depressed had a lower gaze and
affect than infants whose mothers were non depressed.
Both Skotheim et al. (2013) and Feldman et al. (2009) showed that infants of mothers who are
depressed have an impact in the child s focus and social skills. Feldman et al. (2009) also mentions
that infants who are born to depressed mothers experience depression themselves in their life. Since
they are at risk of experiencing depression, Feldman et al. (2009) suggests that further research
should be done to provide them with early interventions. Skotheim et al. (2013) mentions that the
results of the studies show the importance of infants being born to a mentally stable mother.

QLD won a dour game 1 in Sydney, 3 of the last 4 games have now been decided by just 1, 2 and
4 points. Game 2 moves to Melbourne to be played on the big open spaces of the MCG with
little likely home crowd support or influence for either side. The weather forecast is for light
showers across Tuesday and Wednesday. Key team changes, NSW have Gallen and B Morris
returning while QLD lose Cronk but have a quality back up in Cherry Evans. Wear and tear
injuries are always going to be an issue across both team lists, but notably Farah (shoulder) and

Examples Of Suffering In Refugee Blues
How is human suffering presented in Refugee Blues ? Refugee Blues , by W.H. Auden was
written six months before the outbreak of the Second World War; when the Nazis were in power in
Germany and Hitler had called for the removal of Jews. Human suffering is presented in Refugee
Blues by using many different techniques such as similes, repetition, rhyme and metaphor to show
the discrimination of the Jews. Also Auden used a Blues song structure to emphasise the
unhappiness of the Jewish people and their desire to escape from persecution, their loss of identity
and their hopelessness. Blues is originally a type of music with emotional intensity which criticised
society and strongly shows the melancholy feeling similar to the feeling of African American
slaves. I believe that Auden understood and could sympathize with the plight since he visited
Germany and was horrified by the persecution of Jews. Also, as he was homosexual, he may have
experienced similar persecution first hand . The major theme in Refugee Blues is humansuffering;
man s inhumanity to man and the dehumanization of the Jewish refugees. Refugee Blue is written

Film The Adventures Of Priscill Queen Of The Dessert
Australia is a vast landscape, known for its laid back attitude, beautiful never ending beaches and

Analysis Of The Movie The Thin Red Line
The war film is a classic genre. Today, one has a wide variety of war films from which to choose.
But after watching most of them one will find that they are all quite similar. The one thing that all
these films have in common, even more so than the rather similar characters, is the way the
camera is used to portray life in war and on the front line. This appears to be the most traditional
and theatrical approach to portraying this subject, giving the audience what we think they want.
Viewers ultimately walk away saying the same thing. men make war heroic, and with that in mind
these films completely chose to ignore the alternative: that war is not heroic! War is filled with
evil and hatred, and it leaves men soulless and disturbed for the remainder of their lives. Terrence
Malick s The Thin Red Line( 1998) approaches war from an entirely different angle, literally and
figuratively. I will show how visual design speaks to the film s overall theme that war is not heroic,
its unstable, brutal, and an internal battle for the soul of men on and off the battlefield; and,
furthermore, I will demonstrate how simple aesthetic choices such as natural lighting, contrast, and
color influence the elements of this film that convey this message. The scene on which I want to
focus my attention is the ambush scene where the Americans emerge from the fog and bombard the
Japanese camp. I found that this particular scene embodied the entire film. Given that there is such

Reid Book Report
Throughout the book, Reid explores the very ideals and concepts of Confucianism and its relation
to the Japanese society in which he encounters. His encounters bring a greater understanding of the
Japanese culture and its relationship to the culture of more western nations. The book explains the
ideals of respect, responsibility, and familydynamics within the Japanese culture, and their effects
on Asian life. It is because of the traditions and values of Confucianism that the Japanese have
much lower crime rates than that of the United States, and many other western nations. The
lower crime rate is a direct result of the values and morals found within Confucianism. They have
a high ideal for respect and sympathy for others, as well as loyalty and wisdom. Though crime
may happen, it is considered rare in Japanese culture. Reid describes a time when his 10 year old
daughter was going to Disneyland with a friend by themselves and no parental supervision. He was
shocked with the response of the mothernot having any worry about the girls going by themselves.

First, we could use our advanced technology to get information about where top ISIS targets are

Second, we could continue to develop advanced robots that will be able to go into these places

When reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens you realize that Scrooge s childhood has a
huge impact on his adult life, his adult self is a mirror image of his child self, both in his emotions
and relationships. This becomes apparent when the ghost of Christmas past appears and takes
Scrooge on a journey back into his childhood days. His childhood really molds Scrooge into the
person he becomes later in life. Scrooge was a lonely and withdrawn child because he lost
connection with the only parent he had left after the death of his mother at childbirth. His father

have also speculated how the disease will act once a deer or elk dies from it. A year or more later a
wild deer could graze around this same soil and contract the disease. Frighteningly, the bottom line
is, no one can pinpoint where the disease came from, where it s headed, or how it could

Sickle Cell Disorder
Sickle Cell is an inherited form of an abnormal red blood cell disorder. Sickle cell anemia is when
your body produces abnormal hemoglobin (hemoglobin S) which is found in red blood cells. The
abnormally shaped red blood cells are shaped in a crescent like form, this makes them sticky and
rigid and prone to getting trapped in small vessels, which blocks blood flow to important parts of
the body, this is how Sickle cell got its name. Sickle cell anemia occurs when a person inherits two
abnormal copies of the hemoglobin gene, which is found in chromosome 11 in both parents.
Hemoglobin or Haemoglobin is the iron containing oxygen transport metalloprotein in the red blood

St. Edmond Parish Case Summary
St. Edmond s Catholic Church
A diocese is a district under the pastoral care of a bishop in the Christian Church. St. Edmond
Church is located within The Diocese of Lafayette. The Diocese of Lafayette is made up of 121
church parishes. It was established in 1918 when it was separated from the Archdiocese of New
Orleans and created as its own. St. Edmond Catholic Church has been a diocesan parish since 1974.
In 1974 Bishop Gerald L. Frey served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette. As the Lafayette
and surrounding areas grew, so did the need for a new church parish. The first priests assigned to
this newly developed parish were Father Thomas C. Dowling and Father Patrick Mallinson.
There was no formal house of worship constructed, so masses were held in the Villa Maria
Apartment Complex. Masses were offered at five different times on the weekend. As more
Catholics began attending, the need for a new place to offer the Eucharist grew larger weekly. It
was in 1974 that the Lafayette School Board allowed the two priests to use the cafeteria at the
Prairie Elementary School as a temporary church until the diocese could find or construct a building.

Rather than heading towards the Court used when she arrived in Camelot, tearfully luring Arthur

two great oak doors. The guards opened them and Mithian gasped in delight. Rather than the lower

In my opinion the best film that portrays our actual criminal justice system is Spotlight, because
in the film the main characters create an illusion of being like detective in their research of the
truth about child molestation and abuse. I know they are journalist doing their job but in the film
is the perfect example of cop films without a cop involved only in the beginning. What also brings
a point of discussion is the fact of how in crimefilms they portray racism and more if it s a movie
with such a difficult topic to talk about like child molested or child abuse. Another case of child
abuse and good and bad criminal justicesystem would be the film Short Eyes, where the prisoners
take justice by their own hands. In crime films the editors help the director to directly shape the
form on how the movie should impact in the viewer s perspective. In my perspective either Short

Wireless Evil Twin Attack
Abstract
In Today s world multiple Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) can coexist in a airspace.
Every wireless mobility devices tries to find the access point through probe request using a unique
name that is the Service Set Identifier (SSID) of the network to make automatic authentication. As
a wireless user you are concerned only with the broadcast SSIDs that let you connect to a WLAN.
This paper discusses about the Wireless Mobility devices communication security issues using
Basic Service Set Identifier BSSID or Extended Service Set Identifier ESSID which a network
administrator need to keep track of. Also it discusses about the available flaws in it and how by
modifying the probe request header we can make the connectivity more secure for the new

When the user physically moves the laptop from one room to another, the BSS used could
change because of moving from the area covered by one access point to the area covered by
another access point, but this does not affect the connectivity of the laptop. In this paper we are

Andrew Johnson And Radical Reconstruction
Radical Reconstruction, also known as Congressional Reconstruction, sought to legislatively
reconstruct the South so black men were ensured the same rights as white men. Radical
Republicans demand for societal and political change was a concept many white Southerners
struggled with, considering that they lived in a system that greatly benefitted them while
ostracizing and oppressing black people to maintain that system. Southern Democrats and anti
black racists provided a fair amount obstacles for the rise of Radical Republicanism, including
Andrew Johnson s lack of compromise and belief that black people had no role in Reconstruction ,
and the regular violence against and soon, lynching of black people in the South . Eventually,
mutual repulsion of Andrew Johnson is what drove the moderate Republicans to side more with the
Radical Republicans so they can sweep the Congressional elections to gain control of the House of

are the less fortunate kids, who just so happen to live on the wrong side of town. These two
social groups have had a conflict against one another for several years, but on one specific
evening, this rivalry turns deadly as one of the greasers, Johnny, stabs and murders a socs. Due
to the passing of one of the Socs, the Socs tried to avenge the death of their friend, while the
greasers tried to get the town to comprehend that the Socs were also at fault during that conflict.
The Outsider is an exceptional film depicting how social groups can explain our behavior, and
how deviance and crime are observed in relation to our social group. A social group is defined as
a group of two or more people who interact frequently with one another, shares a portion sense of
belonging and have a sensation of interdependence. As seen in the film, both the Socs and the
greasers care deeply for each associate of the corresponding group. Towards the end of the film, as
Johnny is being hospitalized for severe burns, Pony Boy expresses himself by stating the fact that
things would be different if he pass away.

Becoming a California State Lifeguard
Becoming a lifeguard has been an interest of mine for many years. Leading a healthy active
lifestyle and helping others is a great profession. Being able to live and work in beautiful California
State Park Lands, educating people about water safety, rescuing victims from rip currents, and
training the youth to be competent in the water are all great reasons to be a California State
Lifeguard. Also, along with many responsibilities, a lifeguard must be in top physical and mental
health. There are many universities in California that offer programming of interest to a student
wanting to pursue a career as a California State Lifeguard. The University of California ... Show

The use of lifeguards on beaches in California began in the late 1930 s. Communities grew
around seasonal beach attendance because it was an affordable place for adventure after the
Depression. When transportation improvements made the beaches accessible to the inland
communities, swimmers entered the surf zone. In Southern California drownings increased on
a massive scale. For example, in the early 1900 s Newport Beach experienced 18 drownings in
one weekend. In 1918, 13 people drowned in San Diego in one day. Lifeguard services were
modeled after east coast lifeguard operations. Swim lines or lifelines were attached to shore.
However, struggling swimmers were not always able to hold onto them. Row boats(dory boats),
the rescue paddle board, and throw lines were used. Swimming rescues were the last resort due. So,
eventuality Californians supported bond issues that allowed the Division of Beaches and Parks to
acquire significant coastal land. Acquisition of land led to the development of campgrounds. They
both became instantly popular and the immediate need for lifeguard service was met with a
contract to the

Naturalism In Cythera
On looking closely at her sculpture it is seen that cupid s arrows are tied to her along with a
garland of flowers. These are clear connotations of love. Cupid can be seen sitting below the
sculpture with his quiver down almost as though nothing has to be done to bring love in that area.
He is seen tugging the skirt of the lady sitting near him, as though he is urging her to fall in love
with the man on her right, who seems to be trying too. On following the coupled figures down
towards the boat, is a conspiracy whether the boat bought the figures to Cythera or is taking
them to the island of Cythera. On closely observing the body language of the figures, it is
noticed how they get closer and closer towards a state of intimacy. As observed towards the boat
a couple is seen where the women is holding the man s arm of her own volition, she doesn t have
to be coaxed anymore. The progression of the figures almost looks like a form of dance. The
second figured couple hold hands similar to the dance form in the 18th century.

The French crowd desired more dramatic and realistic art which led to the birth of this art form.
The favourite themes the realism artists liked to paint was scenes of urban life , scenes of rural
life, street life , working class , cafГ©s and nightclubs. They also loved to paint nudity and sensual
paintings. This movement moved away from what was ideal to what was simply ordinary . Artists
preferred painting real and ordinary people in contrary to the previous movements where which
focused on religious themes which always managed to look aesthetically appealing even if the figure
in the painting was subject to pain or loss. In the realism art movement beggars looked the way
they would in real life unlike in the previous art periods where even the beggar would look

  • 2. Outline Of A Leader For Charlie Company Tom Vogel Major Jeff Ulmer English 411 Capstone Essay 6 April 2015 2451 Just Following Orders On 16 March 1968 between three hundred and five hundred Vietnamese children, women, and elderly citizens in the village of My Lai were raped, killed, and had their homes and livelihoods destroyed by Charlie Company because of the orders given by one man. Lieutenant William Laws Calley Junior. Calley grew up in a very conservative town where he eventually enlisted in the Army after several unsuccessful endeavors. Later he went through OCS and became a Platoon Leader for Charlie Company. His military career leading up to My Lai was relatively lackluster; he did not have the respect of his troops or his commander, Captain Ernest Medina. In Vietnam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lieutenant Calley grew up in Columbus, George near Fort Benning. Columbus is a staunchly conservative town of nearly 180,000 people, where a huge billboard proclaims JESUS IS LORD. With landmarks like Arsenal Place and newsstand offerings like the Bayonet and Army Times, it sometimes suggests a military theme park (Unger). After Calley finished high school he decided to go to college but ended up doing poorly. He moved through several jobs unsuccessfully eventually enlisting in the military. With his firm conservative background, it is no surprise that as the Vietnam War grew and he was unsuccessful in all his other endeavors that he would enlist. Game 2 moves to Melbourne to be played on the big open spaces of the MCG with little likely home crowd support or influence for either side. The weather forecast is for light showers across Tuesday and Wednesday. Key team changes, NSW have Gallen and B Morris returning while QLD lose Cronk but have a quality back up in Cherry Evans. Wear and tear injuries are always going to be an issue across both team lists, but notably Farah (shoulder) and Slater (shoulder). I think this remains a key advantage but they have to turn opportunity into points and scoreboard points. • 24. Examples Of Suffering In Refugee Blues How is human suffering presented in Refugee Blues ? Refugee Blues , by W.H. Auden was written six months before the outbreak of the Second World War; when the Nazis were in power in Germany and Hitler had called for the removal of Jews. Human suffering is presented in Refugee Blues by using many different techniques such as similes, repetition, rhyme and metaphor to show the discrimination of the Jews. Also Auden used a Blues song structure to emphasise the unhappiness of the Jewish people and their desire to escape from persecution, their loss of identity and their hopelessness. Blues is originally a type of music with emotional intensity which criticised society and strongly shows the melancholy feeling similar to the feeling of African American slaves. I believe that Auden understood and could sympathize with the plight since he visited Germany and was horrified by the persecution of Jews. Also, as he was homosexual, he may have experienced similar persecution first hand . The major theme in Refugee Blues is humansuffering; man s inhumanity to man and the dehumanization of the Jewish refugees. • 26. Analysis Of The Movie The Thin Red Line The war film is a classic genre. Today, one has a wide variety of war films from which to choose. But after watching most of them one will find that they are all quite similar. The one thing that all these films have in common, even more so than the rather similar characters, is the way the camera is used to portray life in war and on the front line. This appears to be the most traditional and theatrical approach to portraying this subject, giving the audience what we think they want. Viewers ultimately walk away saying the same thing. men make war heroic, and with that in mind these films completely chose to ignore the alternative: that war is not heroic! War is filled with evil and hatred, and it leaves men soulless and disturbed for the remainder of their lives. Terrence Malick s The Thin Red Line( 1998) approaches war from an entirely different angle, literally and figuratively. I will show how visual design speaks to the film s overall theme that war is not heroic, its unstable, brutal, and an internal battle for the soul of men on and off the battlefield; and, furthermore, I will demonstrate how simple aesthetic choices such as natural lighting, contrast, and color influence the elements of this film that convey this message. The scene on which I want to focus my attention is the ambush scene where the Americans emerge from the fog and bombard the Japanese camp. I found that this particular scene embodied the entire film. His encounters bring a greater understanding of the Japanese culture and its relationship to the culture of more western nations. The book explains the ideals of respect, responsibility, and familydynamics within the Japanese culture, and their effects on Asian life. It is because of the traditions and values of Confucianism that the Japanese have much lower crime rates than that of the United States, and many other western nations.
