further and further back into your mind. When traumatized by death for example it is very natural
to shut off the memory in order to self defense suppresses the awful emotional experience. Very
often it is thoughtful that this neglecting and abandoning is the best way to forget. In Toni Morrison
s novel Beloved, memory is depicted as a dangerous and deliberating faculty of human
consciousness. In this novel Sethe endures the oppression of self imposed prison of memory by
revising the past and death of her daughter Beloved, her mother and Baby Suggs. In Louise Erdrich

Suggs used to preach. Baby Suggs long distance love was equal to any skin close love she had
known. The desire, let alone the gesture, to meet her needs was good enough to lift her spirits to
the place where she could take the next step (pg 112). In this section the memory of Baby Suggs
also comes onto the surface, making Sethe want to remember her death by the presence of Beloved.

by political scientists and historians for a number of years. The ethnic conflict seems to have
been sparked at the very beginning in 1947, when the British used Muslim and Hindu
mercenaries against each other before the area finally split into today s countries of India and
Pakistan (Spiegel et al. 2015, 185). The timeline since then has been full of conflicts, both major
and minor. Brutal tactics used by security forces and a high rate of unemployment have added to

The Gold Threaded Dress Carolyn Marsden s book, The Gold Threaded Dress, follows the life
of a young Thai girl named Oy as her family is forced to move neighborhoods because of the
cheaper rent placing Oy at an entirely new school. She feels like an outsider at this new school
because there is nobody that looks like her and she is constantly reminded of that because her
peers mock her ethnicity daily. She wants nothing more than to fit in with the popular girls at
their clubhouse. She gets that opportunity one day when a picture of her wearing a ceremonial
silk dress with gold embroidery falls out of her backpack. The leader of the clubhouse, Liliandra,
picks up the picture and notes how Oy looked like a princess and tells Oy that she can be in the
clubhouse if she brings the dress to school so some of the other girls can try it on. Oy is hesitant
at first, and even turns down the offer, but after imagining what it would be like to be in a friend
group and a popular one at that Oy reluctantly agrees. The girls are not gentle with the dress and
are each rushing to get it on all with Oy being a bystander as she hears rip after rip. After getting
outed by the principal, Oy heads home thinking about how her mother, Kun Mere, will react.
Luckily Mere understands, and with Oy s help, they are able to fix the dress. I believe that this
book is a good representation of a multicultural text when basing it off Professor Boyd s qualities.

animal subjects with hypo and hyperkinetic disorders. Hyperkinetic disorders are disorders that
cause problems with movement initiation and reduce voluntary movements. While hyperkinetic
disorders cause too much involuntary movements. There have been many primate models of
Parkinson s diseasebut the one caused by MPTP is the one that is most alike to Parkinson s disease
found in humans. Animals that are treated with MPTP develop symptoms that are similar to people
with Parkinson s disease such as Akinesia, Bradykinesia, flexed posture, muscle rigidity, and

There was also a theory that damage to the STN would relief some of the symptoms of Parkinson
s disease and to prove this, a test was conducted on monkeys. The results were that there was an
immediate relief of akinesia and bradykinesia in contralateral limbs, this was the first support of a
positive role that the STN serves on hyperkinetic disorders.

neurons in Parkinson s disease patients led to a relieve of symptoms and also to see whether age
played a role in whether the implanted neurons survived. All the participants were patients with
Parkinson s disease who had if for at least seven years and had all three signs of Parkinson s
disease. The patients were placed in groups of ten, some were given sham surgery and others
transplantation. This was a double blind study. What was found was that patients who were 60 or
younger actually responded better to the treatment and of the 40 patients only 39 actually
completed the study, one of the patients died in a car crash before the study was finished the study
lasted for a whole year. Also only patients who were 60 or younger reported positive feedback like
showing actual improvement. The other patients were actually showing negative results which is
not good because that meant that the disease was actually getting worse. The scores of one of the
tests used showed some differences between the sham group and transplant group when not

The Travels of Marco Polo begins with the journey taken by Marco Polo s father and his uncle, in
which they go to present day china and meet Kublai Khan. The Polo s family were the first
Europeans that Khan got to meet. The Polo s represent the ideals of Europeans and Khan was very
interested about their way of life. He wanted to know everything they knew about European politics,
religion, and their justice system, And then he inquired about the Pope and the Church, and about
all that is done at Rome, and all the customs of the Latins (chapter 4). Kublai Khanwillingness to
learn about Christianity was interesting. Different countries had their own beliefs. During these
time periods, people began to explore the world and enlighten others on how other cultures live.
Kahn allowed his people to belief in other religions. Not many leaders will allowed that. This is so
different from the romans, who persecuted Christians for their beliefs, fearing something different
from them. Kahn probably knew that allowing different religions gave his people more knowledge
of other cultures. His society was moving with the times. The country not being under one influence
represented how the word is. The world is populated with different types of people and cultures.
In 1271, the siblings and Marco Polo set off to come back to Kublai Khan with a specific end goal
