Do You Ever Stop And Think About How Much Of Your Life Is...
Do you ever stop and think about how much of your life is actually yours? How many days of your
life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let s look at the average American s working life.
Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week
and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let s focus on the weekends. 2 days of the
weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This
comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this
equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is
approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours. But if you re like most people, you probably
answer work emails on the weekends and are always connected. So that number of 15 years is
even lower. Does this sound good to anyone? (Pepper)
When I first read those numbers, it was a complete eye opener. It is absolutely unbelievable that
so much of our lives are spent away from our families and the things we love doing. What is
even more unbelievable is that spending so much time at work is unnecessary in the 21st century.
200 years ago when one had to farm all day to provide for their family, sure, a 10 hour workday
made sense. But now? We have the technology to do many of the menial tasks that used to burden
us. Not only is the long work week unnecessary, it is damaging to our health and our

The Juuxtaposition Between The Greek And The Panathenaic...
Greece is a country full of the juxtaposition between the classic and the new. In Athens, cars, busses
and motorcycles fill the winding streets lined with statues of antiquity. Modern museums full of
ancient artifacts rest under the Acropolis. The Parthenon, as ancient as it is, is under construction,
with large cranes and scaffolding surrounding it. While there is a conflict between the classic and
modern, the new often looks to the ancient for inspiration, which can easily be seen when
comparing the ancient Olympic Gamesto the modern Olympic Games, as well as when looking at
the history of the Panathenaic Stadium.
The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. Athletes from 14 countries
competed in 43 events. Of these events, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One myth on the origins of the Games state that Zeus stated the Olympics to commemorate his
defeat of Kronos. In actuality first Games were held during a festival to honor Zeus (Cartwright,
2013). The revival of the Olympics in 1896 can be seen as a way to honor ancient Greece and
ancient Greek traditions. Both times the Games were motivated by giving honor to what was
important, in one case, a god, in the other, ancient tradition. Another similarity between the ancient
and the modern Games is the reason for competing. In both cases, winning the games means
bringing glory and fame to oneself, as well as one s home, in ancient times, one s city, modern,
one s country. Another striking similarity is the presence of opening ceremonies. During the
modern Games, the host country puts on the opening ceremony which according to Olympic
protocol includes a cultural show and ends with a procession of all competing athletes by
country, and the lighting of the Olympic Torch. During the procession of athletes, according to
tradition the Greek team is always first, followed by the rest in alphabetical order according to the
host country s language, while the host country s team is last. The opening ceremonies of the
ancient Games involved a procession from Elis to Olympia, led by the judges, and upon arrival, all
involved parties swore an oath to follow all rules and compete with honor and respect (Cartwright,

Patient Safety And The Medical Errors
In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has
become a major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has
made various healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing
potential risks for patients. While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most
medical errors, it is also important to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of
factors involved, therefore the strategies used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a
healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience, skills or knowledge in the healthcare field,
there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to take place, similar to our case of Mrs.
Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition According to Dattilo and
Constantino (2006), The most fundamental reason for the failure or inefficiency of a process, in
any work setting even the healthcare environment, is referred to as a root cause . Root cause
analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a step back and
analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room and all
areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). The primary goal of RCA is to overcome their mistakes, in
order to prevent future risks or damages caused to their patients. According to The Joint
Commission, most RCA is expected to take place within a 45 days limit, after

Factors For Consider When Pick An Employee Schedule Template
Title: Factors to Consider When Pick an Employee Schedule Template Description If you have
been given the responsibility of picking an Employee Schedule Template try considering certain
factors which are quite important. An Employee Schedule Template is considered one of the
greatest methods of starting on creating employee schedules in organizations possessing
employees above a certain staff strength or size. These templates match the staffing
requirements of an organization with job profiles and employee availability. They are also of
good use in allotting the number of work hours by making use of staff scheduling software.
They help in getting employee spreadsheets that can easily be reused as per requirements.
Therefore, they are of good help in saving effort and time. Templates in good design offer
flexibility allowing an individual to work in different timings and seasons. There are some
advantages that need to be considered when picking employee work schedule templates and they
are as follows: User Friendly The people who are into designing rosters and shifts are not experts.
They need to have a user friendly employee work schedule template that can be handles very
easily. This is because even a small mistake in this field might mean a huge loss. Therefore, it is
important to make the choice of a vendor offering elegant and simple solutions and the one which
has the willingness to spend some time in training the staff on using an employee work schedule
template.

Compare And Contrast Animal Farm And The Hunger Games
George Orwell s Animal Farm and Suzanne Collin s The Hunger Games have more similarities
than one might think. Both pieces have a horribly corrupt government with a single leader
getting the best of the best, whether the civilians know it or not. Dystopian fiction tends to
follow a pattern. Among the typical motifs are crisis, solution, charismatic leader, and the
making of an enemy. Dystopian fiction also always has a visionary, or one to oppose the
oppression. While, Old Major and Katniss Everdeen aren t easily compared, the similarities in
their goals really do bring up a good point. Old Major was the inspiration for the totalitarian leader,
and Katniss was the one who attempted to stop one. Both had very opposite roles in the books they
took part in, but both had a similar goal in mind: to make a better community.
A crisis gives those who are unhappy with the current lifestyle the opportunity to make a stand,
and both Old Major and Katniss Everdeen saw the issue at hand with their government. They were
getting starved to death and were constantly afraid of being killed. In Animal Farm, being animals
living on a farm automatically puts you at risk towards sudden death. In The Hunger Games, you
could be selected as tribute to be put into the Games at any point within the age limits. There are
many more issues in Animal Farm but all of them have to do with the power given to the higher
classes, or powers. The same goes for The Hunger Games. Even once both Katniss and Peeta
both won the Games in the first book and the rebels escape from them in the second, the third
book is all about the conflict between the powers given to the leaders in District 13. Katniss
couldn t have foreshadowed the way her rebellion would fan out, just as Old Major wouldn t have
known his own farm would end up possibly worse than before with their ill conceived solutions.
Old Major and Katniss Everdeen had a vision to change the way things are with their government.
Though neither saw it happen as they expected, they both had a solution to attempt to fix the
problem. Old Major thought a rebellion by chasing Jones off the farm would get rid of having a
totalitarian leader. Katniss thought that rebelling against the Gamemakers would

Evaluating Student Teaching Practices
As the Coordinator of Student Teaching and School Partnerships, I have the responsibility to
organize, oversee, and continuously re evaluate the student teaching process. This includes
providing guidance to the division s Supervising Teachers, collecting and analyzing data based on
the student teaching evaluations and surveys, and acting as a liaison between the local schools and
IUPUC.
One of the keys to a successful education program is to ensure that the division is employing
individuals whose teaching philosophies line up with that of the program. It is imperative that I
seek out Supervising Teachers who are knowledgeable in and utilizing evidence based best
practices. I entrust that the administrators will choose outstanding teachers to act as student teacher
mentors. More times than not, the philosophies of the chosen teachers do line up with those of the
division and the pair works well together. However, there are the rare instances that ... Show more

Each semester, Supervising Teachers and University Coaches complete mid term and final
evaluations based on observations they have made of the Student Teacher. Once the data have been
collected, I analyze it to determine if our Student Teachers are able to put into practice the
knowledge and pedagogy they have learned in the classroom. The data is essential to the division s
program development, student retention, recruitment, and national accreditation. It provides the
division with information about program strengths and weaknesses and in turn the reports are used
to determine how to better prepare the students. The data will also be used during the division s
national accreditation review to demonstrate that our students are able to put into practice the
knowledge that they obtained in the classroom. The mid term and final evaluations also provide
pivotal information that can then be reported back to the partnership

Boer War Monologue
Remember when I volunteered for the war and you questioned my intentions? I thought it would
be short, you know, like the Boer War. Now I have realized that it is nothing like that war. Not
only is it much longer, it is much bloodier. I fear that the war will drag on for much longer than
the next few months. I thought it d be a great experiene. I mean, who wouldn t want to go to
Europe for a few months? Contrary to my beliefs, it was a terrible thing; waris a terrible thing. But,
what s done is done and now that we have no choice by to fight I am glad I am fighting with
Canada and Britain. I would do anything for our country. I saw the war as a chance to experience a

Under My Bed
Under My Bed My name is Tommy. I m ten years old, and I have a secret. There s a monster that
lives under my bed. I wake up screaming every night. My mom and dad tell me there isn t a
monster under my bed, but I know the truth. It s there, terrorizing me every night. He comes out
from under my bed and tortures me. He leaves scratches and bruises on me; but when I show my
parents, they say I probably fell out of bed. The terror starts when the lights go out with a flick
and the door closes with a click. Soon, I hear the tap, tap, tap coming from under my bed. I can
almost see those giant, glinting claws tapping against the polished hardwood floor. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The tapping becomes more persistent and that s when I hear it. The low... Show more content on

My whole body aches, and I just want all of this to end. He sees me struggling and tells me to
stop, but I refuse to stop. This should not be happening to me. I try to yell, but no sound is coming
out of my mouth. The monster is becoming angrier. I can see the rage boiling inside of him just
waiting to be released. Suddenly, he grabs a match and lights it. He begins to burn me with it.
He burns the tips of my fingers and then stops. I try to cry out, but it s no use. No one can hear
me. If you don t listen to me, I will continue to burn you, says the monster. I stop struggling for a
little bit, trying to think. I try to think of a way out of here, but the ropes are too tight. I stay like
this for what seems like hours, but I know it is only a few minutes. Since you have decided to
behave, I will remove the ropes, says the monster. This is my chance. I can kick him and hit him
when he unties the ropes and then make a run for the door. The monster comes over and cuts the
ropes with a giant claw, also cutting me in the process, but I don t care. This is my chance to get
away. When he is done, I raise a leg to kick him but he sees me coming, and breaks my leg in
half. The pain is excruciating. I scream, even though no one can hear me. I can t move my leg.
Once again, the world goes black. When I wake up again, the first thing I notice is the pain in my
leg. I can t move my leg; and when I look at it,

Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes
Volcanoes are a big mound that erupts and spews out lava, when it erupts the lava flows down the
side of the volcano and when it cools down it turns to rock. As it erupts rocks fly out and can
cause a huge amount of damage and quite often kill people. When volcanoes erupt they create a
large ash cloud. There are three main types of volcanoes, these are Cinder Cone, Shield and
Composite volcanoes.
Cinder Cone
Cinder Cone Volcanoes are small, hill sized volcanoes that range in height from tens to hundreds
of meters. Cinder cones are the simplest and most common type of volcano. Cinder cones can
grow quickly, but they don t become giants. They can build up over short periods of a few months
to a few years. A cinder cone is also called a scoria cone. When lavathat is highly charged with gas
bubbles erupts from a vent under pressure, it tends to shoot straight up into the air. This effect is
called a fire fountain, and it can sometimes be hundreds of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They are named for their large size and low profile, resembling a Warrior s Shield lying on the
ground. Shield volcanoes are built by effusive eruptions, which flow out in all directions to
create a shield like shape. Shield volcanoes are the largest volcanoes on Earth that actually look
like volcanoes (i.e. not counting flood basalt flows). The Hawaiian shield volcanoes are the
most famous examples. They are made from a type of lava that is very fluid when erupted, For
this reason these volcanoes are not steep because you can t pile up a fluid that easily runs
downhill. The width of these volcanoes is typically around 20 times the size of their height. Also,
they can vary greatly in terms of size and some can be over 95 kilometers

From: Single product line
To: Horizontal expansion or diversification
From: The priority is volume
To: Get brand recognition first
From 1991 to 1998, the second stage featured an expansion or diversification strategy within China.
Since the firm bases itself on quality instead of quantity, it decided that if someone bought a Haier
Group refrigerator, then maybe they would look to buy something else from the firm. The business
was developed primarily through mergers and acquisitions to cover all kinds of household electrical
appliances and electronic consumer goods instead of just one product. At this time it also focused
on building great distribution channels all over China and improving product development speed
and quality as well technologies. Since December 1998, the third stage has focused on globalization
strategy. It exported its products to Germany first, then to other European countries, the U.S.,
Southeast Asian countries, Middle East countries, and India. In 2000, the firm opened a $35
million refrigerator factory in Camden, South Carolina, started selling products through Wal Mart
and many other national and regional chains. On March 4, 2002, the firm unveiled its American
headquarters in the landmark neo classical building, the former offices of the Greenwich Savings

Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener
Herman Melville the author of Bartleby, the Scrivener: A story of Wall Street and other notable
works such as Moby Dick, grew up in the nineteenth century encircled by the New York area. By
the time Melville started writing his short story on Bartleby, Wall Street was already a big
financial district. Melville s father, along with many others, had lost their savings in the stock
market. This novella was one that was very personal for Melville due to his father s misfortune on
that dreaded street. Melville wrote this story with a radical position that many others in his time did
not agree with. One can theorize that Herman Melvilleuses his short storyBartleby, the Scrivenerto

The duo summarize their own perspective on the conundrum known as Bartleby, and analyze a
couple of other point of views. One of the perspectives they analyze is Bartleby as a political
figure. Their view agrees with what Heneghan has presented in her argument stating Bartleby to
be perceived as the disappearing working class: authors have approached Bartleby as a political
representative, a representative of the working classes, of organization man (Beverungen and
Dunne). The pair go on to state that Bartleby was meant to embody the idea of the alienated
worker as a politicized Bartleby. In this aspect of their critique, one can agree with Beverungen
and Dunne. The duo also analyze Bartleby as an originary character. As an originary character,
Bartleby is confined to be a character who is an outcast from the working society: Bartleby seeks
to be outside or beyond the social, to escape his entrapment inside the social to exceed the social
(Beverungen and Dunne). This perspective also supports the proposition that Melville alienates
his characters from each other. The final perspective that the partners acknowledge is Bartleby as
a carefree character. This perspective shows Bartleby as an individual whom has no care for any
authority. This is disagreeable to the view on alienation because he is not a carefree and lazy
individual to begin with. He had a great work ethic initially, but it diminished over time with his

Memory in Beloved Essay
Clariza Gutierrez

English 320
In everyone s life there is a moment that is so dreadful and horrific that it is best to try to push it
further and further back into your mind. When traumatized by death for example it is very natural
to shut off the memory in order to self defense suppresses the awful emotional experience. Very
often it is thoughtful that this neglecting and abandoning is the best way to forget. In Toni Morrison
s novel Beloved, memory is depicted as a dangerous and deliberating faculty of human
consciousness. In this novel Sethe endures the oppression of self imposed prison of memory by
revising the past and death of her daughter Beloved, her mother and Baby Suggs. In Louise Erdrich

She must have nursed me two or three weeks that s the way the others did (pg 73). Again here we
see how milk to a child is important to Sethe because it is the only interaction that she had with her
daughter Beloved and her nameless mother. Even though Sethe tries to understand and cope with
the past, Beloved generates a metamorphosis in Sethe that allows her to speak what she had thought
to be the unspeakable.
With Beloved s arrival and back into Seth s life, Sethe also feels the need of going back into the
memory of Baby Suggs, her mother in law. Baby Suggs held religious gatherings at a place called
the clearing, where she taught her followers to love their voices, bodies and minds. However, after
Sethe s act of infanticide, Baby Suggs stops preaching and retreats to a sick bed to die.
Accompanied by Denver and Beloved, Sethe feels the need to go to the clearing where Baby
Suggs used to preach. Baby Suggs long distance love was equal to any skin close love she had
known. The desire, let alone the gesture, to meet her needs was good enough to lift her spirits to
the place where she could take the next step (pg 112). In this section the memory of Baby Suggs
also comes onto the surface, making Sethe want to remember her death by the presence of Beloved.
Similar to Toni Morrison s novel Beloved, Erdrich s novel Love Medicine shows characters also
dealing with memory of death and the

5 Must see Mexican Mayan Temples
Without a doubt, one of the most visually stunning and physically overwhelming things I ve

early on, that this is by no means a list of the best temples and covers only a very, very small
portion of a vast expansive network of temples scattered across the continent. However, this is a list
of my personal favourites and of temples, I would highly recommend anyone in the area (or thinking

The Importance Of The Fourth Crusade
Throughout 11th, and 12th century, the Catholic Church had a keen interest in the religious areas
ruling the Holy Land, it must have been taken for granted in western Christendom that another
major campaign to recover the Holy place would be attempted . The Holy Land represented a
critical historic point for the Christian Orthodox, and Islam on account of its religious monuments
and the power that accompanied the control of the city. To both religions, the significance of the
city was essential, since Jesus and Muhammad were viewed as higher beings in Jerusalem, so
pressures increased all through the Crusadestwo hundred year permanence. With the Muslim
religion on the rise in the Middle East and Asia Minor (Asia Minor, a peninsula also called Anatolia,
comprises most of the Asian part of modern Turkey and the Armenian highland. ) growing
gradually, the Catholic Church discovered themselves in exigent circumstances where they were
losing money, support, and territory. The goals of the fourth Crusadewere systematically altered

necessary. Being that Yeats has zero debt, the value of its equity is in full, which represents its
Enterprise Value. Tax (t) is determined in the case as 40% or .40 (p. 5).
We must then calculate the CAPM for the cost of equity (see Excel sheet for details):
Re = Rf + Beta (Rm Rf)
Re = Required Return on Equity
Rf = Risk Free Rate = 5.98 (p. 16)
Beta = Measure of Risk relative to the general market (volatility) = 1.5 (p. 5)
Rm Rf = Equity Market Risk Premium (EMRP) = 5.5 (p. 16)
Rm = Market Risk
Rf = Risk Free Assets (U.S. treasury security)
With Beta at 1, the stock price changes in precise tandem with the market, but with Yeat s beta at
1.5, it is more risky than a group of peer stocks.
Thus,
Re = Rf + Beta (Rm Rf)
Re = 5.98 + 1.5 x 5.5
Re = 14.23%, the cost of equity at for Yeats
Then calculate
WACC = Re

What Is The Inequality In Mother To Son
Inequality. The condition of being unequal. In Indian Education and Mother to Son Hughes and
Alexie s works explore these conditions of being unequal through the explanation of diverse
hardships that both of these adolescents experience due to the inequality that has been brought to
them by these privileged communities within society. Realizing this status of inequalityin society at
a young age is a motive for Victor and the son to attempt to conform to these unreasonable
standards set forth by people s expectations. Both pieces make a point of becoming aware of the

Fair Trade Vs. Free Trade
Fair Trade vs. Free Trade
The economic systems free trade and fair trade in like manner apply Foucault s triangle of power
and totalitarian knowledge. Specifically, I will analyze what negative effects the lack of subjugated
knowledge causes within these system s foundations and their future betterment through Foucault s
lessons. As a rule, most of the evil in this world is done by people with the best intentions (T.S.
Eliot). On October 1947, 23 nations in Geneva signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
GATT . This liberated international trade and businesses to begin foreign production investing. The
aforementioned agreement was tremendous for the economy. Numerous countries are Free Trade
countries, including the U.S. Within free trade, goods, capital and services flow unhindered
between nations, without barriers, which would hinder the speed of trading processes. There are
no earning ceilings; citizens from free trade countries may secure as much money as they have the
ability to earn, within the confines of the law. Max Havelaar founded the fair trade model in 1988
under the initiative of the Dutch development agency Solidaridad. And the current face of fair
trade, Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International FLO established in Bonn, Germany with the
intention to unite the national Fair trade organizations under one umbrella and to set worldwide
standards and certification.

discrimination than any other race. Though racial discrimination in Californiahas mitigated
considerably over the years it is still a major problem. The peak of racial tensions occurred early
on in California s past. The Gold rush was a difficult time for immigrants in California. Many
came in search of prosperity and instead found a place full of rules and regulations specifically
designed to place them at a disadvantage. The many Chinese immigrants arriving at this time faced
extreme racism. insert lisa see quote here Many Chinese miners had to pay unbelievable foreign
mining taxes on top of having to mine mostly in abandoned mining grounds. To make ends meet
they took on jobs as cooks, launders, and other jobs. They were paid low wages and had to face
discriminatory hiring practices. The sudden flood of people caused tensions between the natives
and the miners to rise. Miners were invading and destroying native lands. Out of desperation, the
Native Americans began pillaging mining camps for supplies. Incensed by the raids, miners began
to hunt down the indigenous population and were often time supported by the government. The
situation never really improved since then. In

The s Theory Of Personal Identity And Diversity

Homicidal Somnambulism
Imagine that one night you end up sleepwalking and end up killing someone. Sounds crazy doesn t
it? Things like this have actually happened. There are now 68 known cases of homicidal
somnambulism. (BBC) . Homicidal somnambulism is the act of murdering someone while in the
state of sleepwalking. The legal argument for this has been that the defendant was not in their
normal state of mind while this has happened and therefore cannot be blamed for such a crime.
Locke is known to believe in his theory of personal identity and diversity. Locke s theory talks
about consciousness and how our consciousness makes our identity through our experiences.
Locke states that we are only considered guilty of committing a crime if we were aware of it and
remember doing it. Although I agree with Locke in some terms regarding our identity having
something to do with our consciousness, I do not fully agree. I believe that personal identity is
what we see ourselves as whether that be physical features, morals, or anything that crosses those
lines.
One of the problems that comes to mind with this to me is how could we prove that someone was
actually sleepwalking and that they are unaware of their actions. Can we trust them and take their
word for it or is there a scientific way in which we can prove it.
Locke distinguishes between man and person. Locke s theory talks about consciousness and how
our consciousness makes our

Suffering and Identity in Donne and Wit
One s identity may be questioned when suffering; ultimately suffering is what creates one s sense
of self or what destroys it. The poetry of John Donne and the play W;t, 1993, by Margaret Edson,

emotionally and physically allows the speaker to understand their identity in more depth, in

bearings, using the imagery of a map to point out that what we see on the western edge of a flat
map is also to be found on the eastern edge, showing that he believes life and death are connected
to each other. In the final stanza, Donne feels joy at the though of death as he feels he will

Bekker s The World Bewitched
Introduction
The World Bewitched (1965) was written by Bekker to outline theological and philosophical
viewpoints that challenged the notion that ghosts, devils, and angels had an influence on historical
events, as well as nature. The story was written at a time when Christianity was being perfected in
England and the rest of Europe. During this time, The World Bewitched (1965) was written, Bekker
served as a minister in Amsterdam. Protestants needed a philosophical and theological approach to
accentuate the assumption that God was the ruler of the world. The need to project God as the
authority while discrediting the influence of ghosts, devils and angels, was necessary so that
Christianity could take root in England and the rest of Europe. ... Show more content on

Through the use of reason, it is possible to reach a conclusion that God created the universe. In
the universe, spirit and matter were distinct entities from one another. Bekker notes that A mind
is a thinking substance and a body an extended one. Bekker adds that Devils are undeniably
spirits, and man is composed of a Body and a spirit. The use of reason to oppose the existence of
ghosts and demons is critical to Bekker. The distinction between the spirit and matter would mean
that theology and philosophy are necessary for discrediting the existence of demons and ghosts.
However, it is not clear whether there is a relationship between matter and spirit. Critics assert that
Bekker fails to explain whether spirits have an influence on the body or whether God has any

Rural, Northern and Remote social work
Glen Schmidt (2000) demonstrated characteristics of Northern social work (p.4). Schmidt (2000)
distinguished the Indigenous definition of the north as home, a welcoming place to live. In
contrast to the western perspective, which is based on European settlement and includes the north
being a, harsh wild that can be used for a resource based economy (p.4). I believe that defining
northern is dependent on who is defining it. I believe that defining north is relative. Considering
that I live in Edmonton, people who living in southern Alberta consider Edmonton north. Also
there are people who live very north such as the hamlet of Grise Fiord. Should Grise Fiord be
considered north? I reiterate that I believe is it dependent upon personal opinion and lived
experience. The influence of resource base economy is significant because it determines, many
peoples source of income as well the community s development. Schmidt mentioned the relationship
of hinterland metropolis as company from urban centres benefitting from the profit of the resources
and not the communities (p.5). Schmidt (2000) also highlighted that the North has been defined as
marginalized part of Canada as the majority of Canada s population is 200km or less from the U.S

Another characteristic that defines northern social work is the scarcity of service provisions

The cinema conveys representations of race, gender, and class that indicate the development and
cultural ideologies of society. Motion pictures illustrate and are depicted from real life settings, and
it is for this reason that the cinema plays a vital role in shaping and sustaining cultural normalcies.
Socialization of gender and identity are mirrored through sexist media depictions that convey the
relative positions of women and men in modern western democracies. There are substantial
quantities of motion pictures that ascribe traditional gender roles to both men and women that

On a lighter note, Disney s animated feature Tangled (a take on Grimm s fairytale Rapunzel) is
funny and visually stunning; however, it rekindles the same plot and recurring theme across all
genres. As a woman, you can be one of two things, either a princess awaiting rescue from her
prince or an evil stepmother (witch). On the contrary, as a man, you get all the action, and in
many aspects, the world is handed to you. Rapunzel, imprisoned within the tower since a child,
is a meek like female with green eyes, blonde hair, and a teeny waist who sings about doing
chores and wonders when her life will begin. Rapunzel is stereotypically overly emotional,
swinging from one end of a mood swing to another, overly preoccupied with being saved, and of
course, is beautiful. Beauty, with respect to this context, equals white, blonde, thin and young. In a
modern day perspective, this is problematic because her body represents the celebration of White
femininity and disregards other ethnicities. Not only does this movie portray females from a
stereotypical frame work, but it induces a false perception of beauty, one that we must all attain or
strive for.

Feminist Concept Of Feminism
We are nearly 20 years into the 21st century, and generally speaking there has been progress and
obstacles in the pursuit of women rights. An issue that I would like to expand on that is within the
parameters of women s rights is reproductive rights and justice. Reproductive rights as a goal is
universal, but it is also complex. This complexity stems from the fact that not every oppression is
the same, and what one person could consider a benefit, others could find fault in it. I believe that
the grundnorm that forms the basis of reproductive rightsis bodily integrity, and when we think of
bodily integrity we should think through a transnational feminist lens. From this concept of
transnational feminism, it is important to note that feminism should be plural because a
transnational approach points to the multiplicity of the world s feminisms and to the increasing
tendency of national feminisms to politicize women s issues beyond the borders of the nation
state (Gupta 24). A transnational feminisms approach allows for us, the reader, to yes
acknowledge that there are commonalities, but to create a coalition we must also acknowledge
the differences and build from there. Our lives are structured around so many systems that are
in effect that we do not acknowledge. An unsupported claim I am going to say is that a lot of
people do not realize the effects of globalization because we, as people, are individualistic. The
fact that we as people are individualistic is relevant to bodily integrity because we do the things
we do for ourselves. Whatever we do to our bodies is our choice, or we like to believe that we
should have the right to make that choice. This matter of choice is something that constantly is
brought up when reproductive rights are discussed. Space, solidarity between the sexes, the social
and material conditions of a given situation, the effects of class and race divisions, biological
contingency, and individual control and collective responsibility are intersecting axis that make up
why it is difficult to essentially please everyone in the fight for reproductive rights. Some
reproductive issues that I would like to examine are sex selective abortion, access to birth control,

Extreme Programming Up Front Design Methodologies Essay
Extreme Programming (XP) has spent the past decades under perpetual scrutiny by software
developers fixated on up front design methodologies. The idea behind this is simple: if you want
to make sure something is well built, you must design it well first, then put it together using
reliable tools. For objects such as houses, cars, or tables, of which the design evolves gradually
throughout decades, the methods of up front design suffice. Computer programs, on the other hand,
are products often made for an industry that evolves at higher rates than any other. For this type of
environment, more dynamic methods are required, which is why XP suits as a viable candidate.

The Ethnic Conflict Between India And Pakistan
The ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan has been the subject of speculation and study
by political scientists and historians for a number of years. The ethnic conflict seems to have
been sparked at the very beginning in 1947, when the British used Muslim and Hindu
mercenaries against each other before the area finally split into today s countries of India and
Pakistan (Spiegel et al. 2015, 185). The timeline since then has been full of conflicts, both major
and minor. Brutal tactics used by security forces and a high rate of unemployment have added to
the issue (BBC News 2016). The conflict between the two states has involved many non state
and state actors. For example, besides the two main states, the UN Security Council has been
involved. Specific state actors include Japan, the United States, and several European countries,
many of whom had ordered sanctions against both India and Pakistan for nuclear testing and
other issues (BBC News 2017a). Militant groups such as the anti India terror group, Jammu and
Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), became involved relatively early on with the conflict and ran
entire terror campaigns (Mohan 1992, 299). Peaceful groups such as the Red Cross have provided
aid to India and Pakistan at different points in the conflict. The origins of the conflict can be traced
back most clearly to 1947. The Indian Independence Bill went into effect in August of that year,
resulting in the split of the area into two separate states: India and

Public School Choice Essay
Public School Choice
Public School Choice is an easy program to understand and it contains many advantages but also
many disadvantages. Public School Choice is when parents can elect to send their children out of
a school that has not made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years into a school that
has made progress. (McClure, 2002) If there are no available schools within the original school
district, then a family can choose to send their children to another district. This only happens when
the other schools in the original district are all labeled as underachieving schools and have not
made the adequate yearly progress. (McClure, 2002)

Official from Milwaukee school and local policy groups, where public school choice has been
an option, confirmed what most observers have assumed: that having options with in the public
school system is intensely popular with parents (Van Dunk, 2003) Some people do not believe
there can be such a thing as public school choice. For it to be actual school choice and in order
for it to succeed it has to include private schools. (Jeynes, 2000) These are just a few facts and
some issues that are controversial around the Public School Choice option.
School Vouchers
School Vouchers are another popular form of school choice. Vouchers are scholarships that let
students attend a school of their parent s choice. The vouchers are given out to low income
parents who are below the 175% poverty line. A voucher can be used a private school. Schools

treatments or compares treatments of other mental illnesses to Roderick s current illness. When
describing the house and its vicinity, the narrator uses a mode of description to provide a
palpable interpretation of the house that is at the core of the Ushers illness. No detail is left out
when describing the houses exterior and interior and this builds the dreary feelings expressed
through the story. When describing the supernatural of the story, where there is no scientific
explanation for an event Poe focuses on the scenery. At the denouement of the story where the
house is breaking, the narrator is focusing on the events that are rapidly occurring around him
and puts only takes notes of the unexplainable events unfolding before him. He describes the
fissure of the house rapidly expanding and the howl of the wind as if it were a creature. He also
describes Madeline appearing as a ghostly white. These are all supernatural details of the story and
serve to demonstrate the fear and madness that has taken over the Ushers in the end. The
descriptions of the house convey that the house is tainted with evil and

Rock And Roll Influence On Youth Culture
The discussion here will be of the invention of rock n roll and how did it emerge from the new
working class youth culture. Styles of this are said to be fused from black and white popular music.
All Genres have been studied for years but for rock itself was hard to get an agenda to just focus on
this as for some didn t considered if rock as form of musicwas as worthy to study than others.
The body of my essay will discuss the history of rock n roll and the popular youth cultures in the
last century and how their choice of music was developed.
No matter the genre, music in itself gives a person a sense of security. This is obvious at a young
age, where a child will keep themselves contempt and relaxed by singing to themselves and control
their emotions, where an adult doing their housework will sing to themselves to give freedom and
soul. This is shown through this essay that the youth culture brought other genre into their popular
music to explore more rhythm.
When you see Elvis Presley singing songs early in his career I think you [should] imagine, he is
channeling Rosetta Tharpe. It s not an image that I think we re used to thinking of in rock and roll
history. We don t think about the black woman behind the young white man.

Trade in Alexandria: A Story Told on the Water
Serving as the capitol for the Ptolemaic dynasty, Alexandria was and is still located on the
Mediterranean coast of Egypt. It s positioning came from Greek inspiration, built as a central
location of commerce, maritime trade, and international business. Some of the goods shipped in
and out of the port included textiles, cosmetics and ointments, gems, papyrus, Egyptian glass,
grains, and spices. As one of the main trading hubs in the Ancient Mediterranean world, Alexandria
had a very diverse populace which consisted of Egyptians, Syrians, Romans and Greeks. As I
pointed out in my first paper, Alexandria became home to many ... Show more content on

As I stated in my first paper The regular flooding lets agriculture along the Nile thrive. With this
Egypt soon became the main source of grain for Rome with enormous ships regularly criss crossing
the Mediterranean. To help keep up with the demand and increase profits Ptolemy implemented
back home knowledge to his newly acquired territory. This is shown when Saad in Alexandria: The
Site the History, states:
When the Ptolemies had taken over the running of Egypt agriculture had been steadily declining.
Their application of Greek knowledge and science implied relatively sophisticated agricultural
methodology and as a consequence an increase in crops and harvests (122)
Agricultural production was also dependent on the water distribution and irrigation. To help
maximize crop production, men were required to spend a set amount of time cleaning the irrigation
systems of silt. Egypt continued to be the granary of Rome for many centuries. This is proven by
the text in Maritime Archaeology and Ancient Trade in the Mediterranean by Damian Robinson,
saying: Emperor Augustus put the army to work on clearing the silted irrigation systems of Egypt
as soon as he took control of the country in

Teenage Delinquency
The way parents rear their children to be well law obeying individuals can be affected if the parents
are not using their authority figure in the correct manner. The way people parent their children can
have a correlating effect on that child having criminal tendencies. When a parent is not emotional or
physically present a child might turn to delinquency because he/she has no authority figure that has
shown them to be responsible. Bad parentingcan be defined in multiple ways whether it be by
neglecting the child, physically abusing them, and by not disciplining the child appropriately etc.
These bad parenting tactics can be the cause of the youth delinquency.
The problem being targeting is whether the way parents raise their child has an impact on the child
being a delinquent. An individual s parents are the first type of authority figures a child has and if
the parents are not demonstrating respectable parenting skills or requiring appropriate behavior
from the child, the child has the possibility of rearing to delinquency. This problem is significant
because negative parenting skills increase the risk of setting a child off on a delinquent path that
starts in their early years and can continue far into adulthood. This problem is also important
because if bad parenting is leading the youth to crime one can target the problem to prevent
delinquency. It is thus important for the parents to evaluate their parenting skills and find resources
to better their education and

Difference Between Canadian Economy And Usa s Economy

I will be writing about the difference between Canada economy and USA s Economy. I will have
three points about why they should be the same, Why they should stay the same, WHy they should
be the same type of economy and The last paragraph is about the differences
America is a Market Economy, which means that the People rules mostly everything and
Government don t have a say in what they want to do sorta. Canada is A mixed economy and that
means that Both consumers and the government run canada. One of the big difference is
Politics. People in canada Have alot of rights to vote for a lot of things like who runs our
government. The USA only have like 3 things people can vote for because it is a consumer so they

Essay On Folic Acid In New Zealand
New Zealand s public health system is often considered to be on par with the world s best. Our
social welfare system cares for people without bankrupting them and we have a range of
guidelines to ensure that our food and resources are safe. However, it may be that we are failing in
key areas of our healthsystem, particularly in the prevention of neural tube defects such as spina
bifida. This failure may be resulting in widespread and unnecessary suffering for the hundreds of
New Zealanders that have been inflicted with this needless and debilitating illness. Our government
s inability to legislate the supplementation of folic acid puts New Zealand behind the curve
regarding health policy compared to the rest of the world.
The importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another very serious NTD is anencephaly, in which infants are born with underdeveloped brains
and/or incomplete skulls and generally do not survive more than a few hours after birth. It is clear
that these horrific health outcomes need to be addressed with the utmost urgency.
Neural tube defects have a very negative impact on our society. Adding folic acid to our food
will have positive social implications because it will reduce the occurrence of babies diagnosed
with NTDs. Since the USA s mandatory fortification of folic acid in 1998, statistics have
revealed that there are approximately 1300 less NTD cases than pre fortification statistics
indicated.10 This would significantly benefit families who would instead have healthy babies,
saving them the emotional distress of having a child with an NTD and allowing them to live
without the high demands and healthcare costs involved with caring for a child with an NTD.
This will also impact the wider society, as babies with NTDs have a large impact on society due
to the significant costs to the health and disability sectors. A reduction in the number of babies
requiring lifelong care will save society millions of dollars and will greatly improve the quality of
life of the babies themselves.
Organisations advocating for mandatory fortification in New Zealand include the Paediatric Society
of New Zealand and the New Zealand Medical Association. Approximately eighty

Gender Stereotypes In Nowlan s The Fall Of A City
Gender stereotypes in Nowlan s The Fall of a City Why is it that girls can wear pants, but boys
cannot wear dresses? Why can girls play with trucks, but boys cannot play with dolls? Why has
society restricted girl like behavior for boys?
In The Fall of a City, Teddy, the protagonist faces similar challenges. The Fall of a City is a
fictitious short story written by Alden Nowlan. A young boy creates a miniature city out of paper
and cardboard and uses his vivid imagination to escape reality. Unfortunately, conflicts and
characterization teaches Teddy that in order to be socially accepted in the adult world, he must
abandon his innocent, child like ways and succumb to gender stereotypes.
First of all, Teddy learns to succumb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Teddy goes to the attic and sees that the city was as he had left it. Yet everything
had changed. Always before when he had come here, his flesh had tingled, his eyes had shone
with excitement. Now there was only a taste like that of a spoilt nutmeg (Nowlan 3). After
Teddy s talk with his uncle, his innocent love of playing with Theodoresburg has been ruined.
Teddy sees the city in a new perspective, knowing that adults believe that he is playing with paper
dolls and dollhouses. This reveals that Teddy is weak when it comes to his uncle, as he gives in
to his torment. Once humiliated by his uncle, Teddy is easily influenced by the idea of him
exhibiting girl like behavior. In addition, Teddy easily succumbs to gender stereotypes and lets
his uncle ruin his love of playing with the city. Another example is when Teddy [...] bent and
seized the cardboard palace. Gritting his teeth and grunting, he tore at its walls. The corrugated
board was sturdy: he was crying by the time he finished tearing it to shreds (Nowlan 4). In other
words, Teddy destroys his fort and since he was crying, it is evident that he was not happy about
doing so. This also reveals that Teddy is very sensitive and that his uncle s put downs really hurt
him. Teddy s uncle went on about how Teddy is acting like a girl by playing with dolls and
dollhouses. He laughs at him and tells him that he

Personal Aspects Of Natural Disasters
Across the World people know what a natural disaster is, but have never actually experienced one
first hand. Natural disasters are events that are unexpected, and can ruin a town in a matter of
just a few minutes. Just a few hours away from my home town lies a big city that is nicknamed
Jomo. This town sounds small and mysterious, but it is actually very well known. This town is
Joplin, Missouri. Growing up in a small Southern Missouri town I have experienced multiple
tornadoes, but never knew just how dangerous they can be. However, in the month of May 2011 I
became very aware of the danger. On May 22, 2011 an EF5 tornadohit the town of Joplin, and
destroyed almost half of the city. This event hit very close to home for many people in my
community. This tornado is the most expensive tornado in US history, and I first hand got to
experience the destruction. A few days after the tornado hit my family and friends decided to go
help this nearby town. I thought it was going to be an easy trip, but I ended up seeing things that
will never leave my mind. My family and I woke up at four in the morning to begin our two day
journey. I was 13 at the time, and knew very little about what was going on before I got to
Joplin. We arrived to Joplin around seven, with a whole day of plans ahead of us. I still
remember the drive into town. We saw hundreds of people on the side of the street. Most of these
people were sleeping on blankets right in the middle of the town. This is when I

Persuasive Essay On Landfills
Recycling and composting should be taken up nation wide. Our landfills are filling up across
the nation and we are running out of space to put all of our trash. Composting and recycling
would not only give back to the enviroment and improve our planet health overall, but it would
allow for more space in landfills. They state in the article that Americans produce more than four
pounds of trash and recycles only about a third of that amount. (Paragraph 3, Scentance 2.) By
that logic, we keep taking and throwing away so senslessly that in a matter of time I fear that our
world will be overun with garbage. When the landfills fill up, where is all the garbage going to go?
Oceans, the streets, clearing more land for a new one?

Jimmy John s
My personal reason to investigate Jimmy John s is that I have had the experience of being a
delivery driver for the franchise for the last two years. In this time I have learned some information
about the business that is not commonly known and what happens outside of the customers views.
In 1983, Jimmy John Liautaud perfected his award winning bread and opened up his first Jimmy
John s restaurant. Jimmy John did not have a lot of money to start out his company and he was
even unable to pay for an ice machine in his restaurant. His goal to expand the restaurant was to go

Another way is only providing mayo, mustard, and oil and vinegar as sauce options. A recent
problem with Jimmy John s has been the recent sprout breakouts which have been on the news.
This has hurt business for the company and ruined the reputation. The sprouts had some type of
salmonella which caused them to all be recalled and have been unavailable on the menu for
close to six months now with no replacement. Customers always are asking when the sprouts are
coming back and there is no information available yet if there is a replacement. I have seen a
few customers walk out of the store in disappointment of this. Apart from being a delivery driver
I also have the job of sampling to the city of De Pere within our delivery area. Sampling is
required every day when possible at every franchise store. The goal of sampling is to let
everyone know that they deliver and are the perfect options for any last minute orders that need
to be placed. After a sample is brought to each person, we are to take business cards and call
back the next day to find out any feedback and how we could further help them with any
questions they may have. I find this is an excellent way to build the business and to get out and
talk to any customers to find out what we should be doing different. I love the opportunity of
being the sampler for the store as I get to go out and bring samples and who doesn t love free food?

Bitter And Sweet American Identity
In the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Author, Jamie Ford, illustrates American
identity as something that comes in several different spectrums, but encompassing the same basic
ideas that shaped our country in the first place through characters such as Mr.Okabe and Mr.Lee.
Our country was based off of standing up and fighting for what we believe in. This is exactly
what both Mr.Lee and Mr.Okabe do. Mr.Lee stays loyal to what he thinks is right even when not
everyone in his surrounding approves and Mr.Okabe fights for inequality and justice by obeying the
laws placed by the government of the United Statesof America. Both these men, show that being an

He wanted us to see how different each American is. We all follow the guidelines placed upon by
the fathers of our nation, but we each adapt it in our own unique ways. From day one, the United
States has always been known for its freedom and democracy and when the power is literally
placed in the hands of those who it directly effects, by no means does this limit our people but
pushes us to explore and question the unknown of the nation we control. Even though our
society can be broken down into different ethnicities, as a whole we are a culture of our own. A
very unique blend of all our values, dedication, hard work, and perseverance. This is what Ford
wanted to illustrate Americanism as. Even though we all come from something different, we all
have the pursuit of happiness. All of this combined is why we call ourselves American and this is
what makes up the true American identity which we all can relate to. Like Theodore Roosevelt
once said, Americanism is a question of principle, of idealism, of character. It is not a matter of
birthplace, or creed, or line of

The Distance The Amino Acid Traveled From The Origin
The data that was collected throughout the experiment shows the distance the amino acid
traveled from the origin. This data was used to calculate the retardation factor also known as the
Rf value; the distance that the spot traveled divided by the distance the solvent traveled. Based
off of our data, the non polar amino acids show an upward linear trend in Rf as molecular weight
increases. Conversely, the more polar the amino acids are the greater the downward linear trend
is seen, as shown in figure 1.3. Based off of the direction that the amino acids moved on the thin
layer chromatography sheet we can deduce that the hydrophobic molecules moved away from
the solvent while the hydrophilic molecules still moved but remained closer to the origin of the
sheet. The Rf value can provide evidence as to what the compound was. One way to fully
authenticate the identity of a compound is to run a TLC sheet side by side with the compound
that you are trying to identify. You can identify a substance if both compounds have the same Rf;
they are likely identical substances. However, if their Rf values differ they are not the same
compounds. We were able to see this take place in our experiment. As one can see from figure 1.3
D alanine and L alanine that have the same molecular structure, but are just mirror images on of one
another, both have the same Rf value.
Of course with any experiment there is room for error. One amino acid that our group noticed was
that glutamic acid did not

How Trade Policies Affect Economic Growth And Development
One puzzle of the world economy is that... Why are some countries so much richer than other? Or
to put it differently, why have some economies per capita income been growing at faster rates than
others? Most likely, there are numerous factors that play a role. This essay is an attempt to
enumerate and discuss at least some factors. A satisfactory understanding of economic growth also
requires an appreciation of how countries interact with each other, because countries income levels
are interdependent. Trade policies help foster these interactions between countries (and businesses).
The question of how trade policies affect economic growth and development has become a
controversial topic. After World War 2, colonial areas that gained independence after the war
believed they could reach higher income levels like their former colonizer only through rapid
government controlled industrialization. Many developing countries adopted measures intended to
reduce their independence on the export of primary goods (such as coffee, copper, and wheat).
The justification for such policies came from a belief that demand of primary goods to
manufactures would decline in the future due to technological progress in developed countries.
This idea came to be known as the Singer Prebisch Hypothesis. In other words, countries which rely
on exports of agricultural products would eventually grow less quickly than other countries whose
main exports were manufactured goods. Hence, the key to economic

Difference Between Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Capital Punishment: Is it cruel and unusual Punishment and is it Applied Equally?
Throughout time, it appears that the best way society has punish death is through the killing of the
killer. This is also mentioned in the Bible several times as an eye for an eye . In our current time,
things have not changed much; revenge for murder is still strong. However, in the U.S., repaying
death through death is done through the legal system. This is what is known as capital punishment.
Ever since capital punishment was initiated, there have been many problems in terms of its
continuality. Is the death penalty constitutional? This has been a question that Supreme Courts
Justices have wrestled with for a really long time. The main constitutional question in terms of
capital punishment is found in the Eight Amendment, which pretty much talks about the concept of
cruel and unusual punishment.
Capital Punishment can be agreed upon, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout history in the U.S., many civil rights leaders and others have attempted to argue about
the cruelty of capital punishment, yet it s interesting to note that it s still. This issue is so
controversial that the states themselves have to allowed to decide if capital punishment is
constitutional or not. The state of Illinois, for example, has banned capital punishment, mainly
because of concerns that innocent people are being lethally injected for crimes they never
committed. There is a great concern that innocent people are being put to death. But Rehnquist,
during the 1980s, never believed that presumed innocence should stand on the way of capital
punishment, especially if little technical knowledge of the defendant was available. This stands
true today, especially in light of use of DNA testing to prove criminality. However, if one were to
apply Marshall s excessive force argument, one could argue that capital punishment is

Comparative Religion Essay
Comparative religion is a relatively new discipline in theology. Comparative religion is the branch
of theology that is concerned with the systematic comparison of the different religions of the
world. Two religions that have been at the forefront of media attention in recent years are Islam
and Christianity. These two religions have been constantly criticized by individuals who may have
some knowledge of these religions, but have not dove into the depths to fully understand the
origins and beliefs of these two very different religions. Before one can make claims and judgments
on religions one must know the origin and belief systems of the religion.

Summary Of The Gold Threaded Dress
The Gold Threaded Dress Carolyn Marsden s book, The Gold Threaded Dress, follows the life
of a young Thai girl named Oy as her family is forced to move neighborhoods because of the
cheaper rent placing Oy at an entirely new school. She feels like an outsider at this new school
because there is nobody that looks like her and she is constantly reminded of that because her
peers mock her ethnicity daily. She wants nothing more than to fit in with the popular girls at
their clubhouse. She gets that opportunity one day when a picture of her wearing a ceremonial
silk dress with gold embroidery falls out of her backpack. The leader of the clubhouse, Liliandra,
picks up the picture and notes how Oy looked like a princess and tells Oy that she can be in the
clubhouse if she brings the dress to school so some of the other girls can try it on. Oy is hesitant
at first, and even turns down the offer, but after imagining what it would be like to be in a friend
group and a popular one at that Oy reluctantly agrees. The girls are not gentle with the dress and
are each rushing to get it on all with Oy being a bystander as she hears rip after rip. After getting
outed by the principal, Oy heads home thinking about how her mother, Kun Mere, will react.
Luckily Mere understands, and with Oy s help, they are able to fix the dress. I believe that this
book is a good representation of a multicultural text when basing it off Professor Boyd s qualities.

s disease and to prove this, a test was conducted on monkeys. The results were that there was an
immediate relief of akinesia and bradykinesia in contralateral limbs, this was the first support of a
positive role that the STN serves on hyperkinetic disorders.
(Freed, 2001) The purpose of this study was to see whether implanted embryonic dopamine
neurons in Parkinson s disease patients led to a relieve of symptoms and also to see whether age
played a role in whether the implanted neurons survived. All the participants were patients with
Parkinson s disease who had if for at least seven years and had all three signs of Parkinson s

transplantation. This was a double blind study. What was found was that patients who were 60 or
younger actually responded better to the treatment and of the 40 patients only 39 actually
completed the study, one of the patients died in a car crash before the study was finished the study
lasted for a whole year. Also only patients who were 60 or younger reported positive feedback like
showing actual improvement. The other patients were actually showing negative results which is
not good because that meant that the disease was actually getting worse. The scores of one of the

which they go to present day china and meet Kublai Khan. The Polo s family were the first

interested about their way of life. He wanted to know everything they knew about European politics,
religion, and their justice system, And then he inquired about the Pope and the Church, and about
all that is done at Rome, and all the customs of the Latins (chapter 4). Kublai Khanwillingness to
learn about Christianity was interesting. Different countries had their own beliefs. During these
time periods, people began to explore the world and enlighten others on how other cultures live.
Kahn allowed his people to belief in other religions. Not many leaders will allowed that. This is so
different from the romans, who persecuted Christians for their beliefs, fearing something different
from them. Kahn probably knew that allowing different religions gave his people more knowledge
of other cultures. His society was moving with the times. The country not being under one influence
represented how the word is. The world is populated with different types of people and cultures.

  • 2. Do You Ever Stop And Think About How Much Of Your Life Is... Do you ever stop and think about how much of your life is actually yours? How many days of your life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let s look at the average American s working life. Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let s focus on the weekends. 2 days of the weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours. But if you re like most people, you probably answer work emails on the weekends and are always connected. So that number of 15 years is even lower. Does this sound good to anyone? (Pepper) When I first read those numbers, it was a complete eye opener. It is absolutely unbelievable that so much of our lives are spent away from our families and the things we love doing. What is even more unbelievable is that spending so much time at work is unnecessary in the 21st century. 200 years ago when one had to farm all day to provide for their family, sure, a 10 hour workday made sense. But now? We have the technology to do many of the menial tasks that used to burden us. Not only is the long work week unnecessary, it is damaging to our health and our ... • 3. The Juuxtaposition Between The Greek And The Panathenaic... Greece is a country full of the juxtaposition between the classic and the new. In Athens, cars, busses and motorcycles fill the winding streets lined with statues of antiquity. Modern museums full of ancient artifacts rest under the Acropolis. The Parthenon, as ancient as it is, is under construction, with large cranes and scaffolding surrounding it. While there is a conflict between the classic and modern, the new often looks to the ancient for inspiration, which can easily be seen when comparing the ancient Olympic Gamesto the modern Olympic Games, as well as when looking at the history of the Panathenaic Stadium. The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. Athletes from 14 countries competed in 43 events. Of these events, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One myth on the origins of the Games state that Zeus stated the Olympics to commemorate his defeat of Kronos. In actuality first Games were held during a festival to honor Zeus (Cartwright, 2013). The revival of the Olympics in 1896 can be seen as a way to honor ancient Greece and ancient Greek traditions. Both times the Games were motivated by giving honor to what was important, in one case, a god, in the other, ancient tradition. Another similarity between the ancient and the modern Games is the reason for competing. In both cases, winning the games means bringing glory and fame to oneself, as well as one s home, in ancient times, one s city, modern, one s country. Another striking similarity is the presence of opening ceremonies. During the modern Games, the host country puts on the opening ceremony which according to Olympic protocol includes a cultural show and ends with a procession of all competing athletes by country, and the lighting of the Olympic Torch. During the procession of athletes, according to tradition the Greek team is always first, followed by the rest in alphabetical order according to the host country s language, while the host country s team is last. The opening ceremonies of the ancient Games involved a procession from Elis to Olympia, led by the judges, and upon arrival, all involved parties swore an oath to follow all rules and compete with honor and respect (Cartwright, ... • 4. Patient Safety And The Medical Errors In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has become a major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has made various healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing potential risks for patients. While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most medical errors, it is also important to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of factors involved, therefore the strategies used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience, skills or knowledge in the healthcare field, there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to take place, similar to our case of Mrs. Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition According to Dattilo and Constantino (2006), The most fundamental reason for the failure or inefficiency of a process, in any work setting even the healthcare environment, is referred to as a root cause . Root cause analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a step back and analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room and all areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). The primary goal of RCA is to overcome their mistakes, in order to prevent future risks or damages caused to their patients. According to The Joint Commission, most RCA is expected to take place within a 45 days limit, after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Factors For Consider When Pick An Employee Schedule Template Title: Factors to Consider When Pick an Employee Schedule Template Description If you have been given the responsibility of picking an Employee Schedule Template try considering certain factors which are quite important. An Employee Schedule Template is considered one of the greatest methods of starting on creating employee schedules in organizations possessing employees above a certain staff strength or size. These templates match the staffing requirements of an organization with job profiles and employee availability. They are also of good use in allotting the number of work hours by making use of staff scheduling software. They help in getting employee spreadsheets that can easily be reused as per requirements. Therefore, they are of good help in saving effort and time. Templates in good design offer flexibility allowing an individual to work in different timings and seasons. • 6. Compare And Contrast Animal Farm And The Hunger Games George Orwell s Animal Farm and Suzanne Collin s The Hunger Games have more similarities than one might think. Both pieces have a horribly corrupt government with a single leader getting the best of the best, whether the civilians know it or not. Dystopian fiction tends to follow a pattern. Among the typical motifs are crisis, solution, charismatic leader, and the making of an enemy. Dystopian fiction also always has a visionary, or one to oppose the oppression. While, Old Major and Katniss Everdeen aren t easily compared, the similarities in their goals really do bring up a good point. Old Major was the inspiration for the totalitarian leader, and Katniss was the one who attempted to stop one. Both had very opposite roles in the books they took part in, but both had a similar goal in mind: to make a better community. A crisis gives those who are unhappy with the current lifestyle the opportunity to make a stand, and both Old Major and Katniss Everdeen saw the issue at hand with their government. They were getting starved to death and were constantly afraid of being killed. In Animal Farm, being animals living on a farm automatically puts you at risk towards sudden death. In The Hunger Games, you could be selected as tribute to be put into the Games at any point within the age limits. There are many more issues in Animal Farm but all of them have to do with the power given to the higher classes, or powers. The same goes for The Hunger Games. Even once both Katniss and Peeta both won the Games in the first book and the rebels escape from them in the second, the third book is all about the conflict between the powers given to the leaders in District 13. Katniss couldn t have foreshadowed the way her rebellion would fan out, just as Old Major wouldn t have known his own farm would end up possibly worse than before with their ill conceived solutions. Old Major and Katniss Everdeen had a vision to change the way things are with their government. Though neither saw it happen as they expected, they both had a solution to attempt to fix the problem. Old Major thought a rebellion by chasing Jones off the farm would get rid of having a totalitarian leader. Katniss thought that rebelling against the Gamemakers would ... • 7. Evaluating Student Teaching Practices As the Coordinator of Student Teaching and School Partnerships, I have the responsibility to organize, oversee, and continuously re evaluate the student teaching process. This includes providing guidance to the division s Supervising Teachers, collecting and analyzing data based on the student teaching evaluations and surveys, and acting as a liaison between the local schools and IUPUC. One of the keys to a successful education program is to ensure that the division is employing individuals whose teaching philosophies line up with that of the program. It is imperative that I seek out Supervising Teachers who are knowledgeable in and utilizing evidence based best practices. I entrust that the administrators will choose outstanding teachers to act as student teacher mentors. More times than not, the philosophies of the chosen teachers do line up with those of the division and the pair works well together. However, there are the rare instances that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each semester, Supervising Teachers and University Coaches complete mid term and final evaluations based on observations they have made of the Student Teacher. Once the data have been collected, I analyze it to determine if our Student Teachers are able to put into practice the knowledge and pedagogy they have learned in the classroom. The data is essential to the division s program development, student retention, recruitment, and national accreditation. It provides the division with information about program strengths and weaknesses and in turn the reports are used to determine how to better prepare the students. The data will also be used during the division s national accreditation review to demonstrate that our students are able to put into practice the knowledge that they obtained in the classroom. The mid term and final evaluations also provide pivotal information that can then be reported back to the partnership ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now I have realized that it is nothing like that war. Not only is it much longer, it is much bloodier. I fear that the war will drag on for much longer than the next few months. I thought it d be a great experiene. I mean, who wouldn t want to go to Europe for a few months? Contrary to my beliefs, it was a terrible thing; waris a terrible thing. But, what s done is done and now that we have no choice by to fight I am glad I am fighting with Canada and Britain. I would do anything for our country. My mom and dad tell me there isn t a monster under my bed, but I know the truth. It s there, terrorizing me every night. He comes out from under my bed and tortures me. He leaves scratches and bruises on me; but when I show my parents, they say I probably fell out of bed. The terror starts when the lights go out with a flick and the door closes with a click. Soon, I hear the tap, tap, tap coming from under my bed. I can almost see those giant, glinting claws tapping against the polished hardwood floor. Tap. Tap. Tap. I can see the rage boiling inside of him just waiting to be released. Suddenly, he grabs a match and lights it. He begins to burn me with it. He burns the tips of my fingers and then stops. I try to cry out, but it s no use. No one can hear me. If you don t listen to me, I will continue to burn you, says the monster. I stop struggling for a little bit, trying to think. I try to think of a way out of here, but the ropes are too tight. I stay like this for what seems like hours, but I know it is only a few minutes. Since you have decided to behave, I will remove the ropes, says the monster. This is my chance. I can kick him and hit him when he unties the ropes and then make a run for the door. The monster comes over and cuts the ropes with a giant claw, also cutting me in the process, but I don t care. This is my chance to get away. When he is done, I raise a leg to kick him but he sees me coming, and breaks my leg in half. The pain is excruciating. I scream, even though no one can hear me. I can t move my leg. Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes Cinder Cone, Shield, Composite Volcanoes Volcanoes are a big mound that erupts and spews out lava, when it erupts the lava flows down the side of the volcano and when it cools down it turns to rock. Since the firm bases itself on quality instead of quantity, it decided that if someone bought a Haier Group refrigerator, then maybe they would look to buy something else from the firm. The business was developed primarily through mergers and acquisitions to cover all kinds of household electrical appliances and electronic consumer goods instead of just one product. At this time it also focused on building great distribution channels all over China and improving product development speed and quality as well technologies. Since December 1998, the third stage has focused on globalization strategy. It exported its products to Germany first, then to other European countries, the U.S., Southeast Asian countries, Middle East countries, and India. In 2000, the firm opened a $35 million refrigerator factory in Camden, South Carolina, started selling products through Wal Mart and many other national and regional chains. By the time Melville started writing his short story on Bartleby, Wall Street was already a big financial district. Melville s father, along with many others, had lost their savings in the stock market. This novella was one that was very personal for Melville due to his father s misfortune on that dreaded street. The duo summarize their own perspective on the conundrum known as Bartleby, and analyze a couple of other point of views. One of the perspectives they analyze is Bartleby as a political figure. Their view agrees with what Heneghan has presented in her argument stating Bartleby to be perceived as the disappearing working class: authors have approached Bartleby as a political representative, a representative of the working classes, of organization man (Beverungen and Dunne). The pair go on to state that Bartleby was meant to embody the idea of the alienated worker as a politicized Bartleby. In this aspect of their critique, one can agree with Beverungen and Dunne. The duo also analyze Bartleby as an originary character. As an originary character, Bartleby is confined to be a character who is an outcast from the working society: Bartleby seeks to be outside or beyond the social, to escape his entrapment inside the social to exceed the social (Beverungen and Dunne). This perspective also supports the proposition that Melville alienates his characters from each other. The final perspective that the partners acknowledge is Bartleby as a carefree character. This perspective shows Bartleby as an individual whom has no care for any authority. This is disagreeable to the view on alienation because he is not a carefree and lazy individual to begin with. He had a great work ethic initially, but it diminished over time with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When traumatized by death for example it is very natural to shut off the memory in order to self defense suppresses the awful emotional experience. Very often it is thoughtful that this neglecting and abandoning is the best way to forget. Even though Sethe tries to understand and cope with the past, Beloved generates a metamorphosis in Sethe that allows her to speak what she had thought to be the unspeakable. With Beloved s arrival and back into Seth s life, Sethe also feels the need of going back into the memory of Baby Suggs, her mother in law. Baby Suggs held religious gatherings at a place called the clearing, where she taught her followers to love their voices, bodies and minds. However, after Sethe s act of infanticide, Baby Suggs stops preaching and retreats to a sick bed to die. Accompanied by Denver and Beloved, Sethe feels the need to go to the clearing where Baby Suggs used to preach. Baby Suggs long distance love was equal to any skin close love she had known. The desire, let alone the gesture, to meet her needs was good enough to lift her spirits to the place where she could take the next step (pg 112). WACC is particularly useful here because Yeats has no debt, thus, it is an equity financed company. In the case of Yeats, the company must have capital to continue to develop and market its new Widening Gyre Program. The formula for WACC = Re (E/V) + Rd (D/V)(1 t) However, because Yeats does not have debt, the second half of this formula, Rd(D/V)(1 t) is not necessary. Being that Yeats has zero debt, the value of its equity is in full, which represents its Enterprise Value. Tax (t) is determined in the case as 40% or .40 (p. 5). We must then calculate the CAPM for the cost of equity (see Excel sheet for details): Re = Rf + Beta (Rm Rf) Re = Required Return on Equity Rf = Risk Free Rate = 5.98 (p. 16) Beta = Measure of Risk relative to the general market (volatility) = 1.5 (p. 5) Rm Rf = Equity Market Risk Premium (EMRP) = 5.5 (p. 16) Rm = Market Risk Rf = Risk Free Assets (U.S. treasury security) With Beta at 1, the stock price changes in precise tandem with the market, but with Yeat s beta at 1.5, it is more risky than a group of peer stocks. Sounds crazy doesn t it? Things like this have actually happened. There are now 68 known cases of homicidal somnambulism. (BBC) . Homicidal somnambulism is the act of murdering someone while in the state of sleepwalking. The legal argument for this has been that the defendant was not in their normal state of mind while this has happened and therefore cannot be blamed for such a crime. Locke is known to believe in his theory of personal identity and diversity. Locke s theory talks about consciousness and how our consciousness makes our identity through our experiences. Locke states that we are only considered guilty of committing a crime if we were aware of it and remember doing it. Although I agree with Locke in some terms regarding our identity having something to do with our consciousness, I do not fully agree. I believe that personal identity is what we see ourselves as whether that be physical features, morals, or anything that crosses those lines. One of the problems that comes to mind with this to me is how could we prove that someone was actually sleepwalking and that they are unaware of their actions. During this time, The World Bewitched (1965) was written, Bekker served as a minister in Amsterdam. The distinction between the spirit and matter would mean that theology and philosophy are necessary for discrediting the existence of demons and ghosts. Schmidt (2000) distinguished the Indigenous definition of the north as home, a welcoming place to live. In contrast to the western perspective, which is based on European settlement and includes the north being a, harsh wild that can be used for a resource based economy (p.4). I believe that defining northern is dependent on who is defining it. I believe that defining north is relative. Considering that I live in Edmonton, people who living in southern Alberta consider Edmonton north. Also there are people who live very north such as the hamlet of Grise Fiord. Should Grise Fiord be considered north? I reiterate that I believe is it dependent upon personal opinion and lived experience. The influence of resource base economy is significant because it determines, many peoples source of income as well the community s development. Schmidt mentioned the relationship of hinterland metropolis as company from urban centres benefitting from the profit of the resources and not the communities (p.5). Schmidt (2000) also highlighted that the North has been defined as marginalized part of Canada as the majority of Canada s population is 200km or less from the U.S border (p.3). Not only since the Snowden leaks of 2012 has the question of, who records and who is being recorded become of interest to a wide audience. Access to such data collection, the knowledge about it and the subjects relation to all encompassing technology have been the basis of many influential writings of the last two decades. From works such as Empire (Hardt and Negri) that investigate the effects of an all encompassing global communication network on what Habermas called the public sphere to Geert Lovink s investigation into the roots and practices of critical Internet culture, scholars agree on the existing and growing importance of data access. In addition to that exists another school of thought more concerned with the realizations of (digital) memory. Starting from Derrida s writing on the archive (Derrida), to works such as Wolfgang Ernst s Media Archeology, scholars are interested in the effects of media as memory agents. However, none of these works have yet adequately addressed the question of sustainable storage in relation to the power systems as described above. Motion pictures illustrate and are depicted from real life settings, and it is for this reason that the cinema plays a vital role in shaping and sustaining cultural normalcies. Socialization of gender and identity are mirrored through sexist media depictions that convey the relative positions of women and men in modern western democracies. On the contrary, as a man, you get all the action, and in many aspects, the world is handed to you. Rapunzel, imprisoned within the tower since a child, is a meek like female with green eyes, blonde hair, and a teeny waist who sings about doing chores and wonders when her life will begin. Rapunzel is stereotypically overly emotional, swinging from one end of a mood swing to another, overly preoccupied with being saved, and of course, is beautiful. Beauty, with respect to this context, equals white, blonde, thin and young. In a modern day perspective, this is problematic because her body represents the celebration of White femininity and disregards other ethnicities. Not only does this movie portray females from a stereotypical frame work, but it induces a false perception of beauty, one that we must all attain or strive for. • 33. Feminist Concept Of Feminism We are nearly 20 years into the 21st century, and generally speaking there has been progress and obstacles in the pursuit of women rights. An issue that I would like to expand on that is within the parameters of women s rights is reproductive rights and justice. Reproductive rights as a goal is universal, but it is also complex. This complexity stems from the fact that not every oppression is the same, and what one person could consider a benefit, others could find fault in it. I believe that the grundnorm that forms the basis of reproductive rightsis bodily integrity, and when we think of bodily integrity we should think through a transnational feminist lens. From this concept of transnational feminism, it is important to note that feminism should be plural because a transnational approach points to the multiplicity of the world s feminisms and to the increasing tendency of national feminisms to politicize women s issues beyond the borders of the nation state (Gupta 24). A transnational feminisms approach allows for us, the reader, to yes acknowledge that there are commonalities, but to create a coalition we must also acknowledge the differences and build from there. Our lives are structured around so many systems that are in effect that we do not acknowledge. An unsupported claim I am going to say is that a lot of people do not realize the effects of globalization because we, as people, are individualistic. The fact that we as people are individualistic is relevant to bodily integrity because we do the things we do for ourselves. Whatever we do to our bodies is our choice, or we like to believe that we should have the right to make that choice. This matter of choice is something that constantly is brought up when reproductive rights are discussed. Space, solidarity between the sexes, the social and material conditions of a given situation, the effects of class and race divisions, biological contingency, and individual control and collective responsibility are intersecting axis that make up why it is difficult to essentially please everyone in the fight for reproductive rights. Some reproductive issues that I would like to examine are sex selective abortion, access to birth control, and forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea behind this is simple: if you want to make sure something is well built, you must design it well first, then put it together using reliable tools. For objects such as houses, cars, or tables, of which the design evolves gradually throughout decades, the methods of up front design suffice. Computer programs, on the other hand, are products often made for an industry that evolves at higher rates than any other. • 35. The Ethnic Conflict Between India And Pakistan The ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan has been the subject of speculation and study by political scientists and historians for a number of years. The ethnic conflict seems to have been sparked at the very beginning in 1947, when the British used Muslim and Hindu mercenaries against each other before the area finally split into today s countries of India and Pakistan (Spiegel et al. 2015, 185). The timeline since then has been full of conflicts, both major and minor. Brutal tactics used by security forces and a high rate of unemployment have added to the issue (BBC News 2016). The conflict between the two states has involved many non state and state actors. For example, besides the two main states, the UN Security Council has been involved. Specific state actors include Japan, the United States, and several European countries, many of whom had ordered sanctions against both India and Pakistan for nuclear testing and other issues (BBC News 2017a). Militant groups such as the anti India terror group, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), became involved relatively early on with the conflict and ran entire terror campaigns (Mohan 1992, 299). Peaceful groups such as the Red Cross have provided aid to India and Pakistan at different points in the conflict. The origins of the conflict can be traced back most clearly to 1947. The way people parent their children can have a correlating effect on that child having criminal tendencies. When a parent is not emotional or physically present a child might turn to delinquency because he/she has no authority figure that has shown them to be responsible. Bad parentingcan be defined in multiple ways whether it be by neglecting the child, physically abusing them, and by not disciplining the child appropriately etc. These bad parenting tactics can be the cause of the youth delinquency. The problem being targeting is whether the way parents raise their child has an impact on the child being a delinquent. An individual s parents are the first type of authority figures a child has and if the parents are not demonstrating respectable parenting skills or requiring appropriate behavior from the child, the child has the possibility of rearing to delinquency. This problem is significant because negative parenting skills increase the risk of setting a child off on a delinquent path that starts in their early years and can continue far into adulthood. Bitter And Sweet American Identity In the book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, the Author, Jamie Ford, illustrates American identity as something that comes in several different spectrums, but encompassing the same basic ideas that shaped our country in the first place through characters such as Mr.Okabe and Mr.Lee. Our country was based off of standing up and fighting for what we believe in. This is exactly what both Mr.Lee and Mr.Okabe do. Mr.Lee stays loyal to what he thinks is right even when not everyone in his surrounding approves and Mr.Okabe fights for inequality and justice by obeying the laws placed by the government of the United Statesof America. Both these men, show that being an American doesn t have certain boundaries, that it comes in multiple forms,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wanted us to see how different each American is. We all follow the guidelines placed upon by the fathers of our nation, but we each adapt it in our own unique ways. From day one, the United States has always been known for its freedom and democracy and when the power is literally placed in the hands of those who it directly effects, by no means does this limit our people but pushes us to explore and question the unknown of the nation we control. Even though our society can be broken down into different ethnicities, as a whole we are a culture of our own. A very unique blend of all our values, dedication, hard work, and perseverance. This is what Ford wanted to illustrate Americanism as. Even though we all come from something different, we all have the pursuit of happiness. All of this combined is why we call ourselves American and this is what makes up the true American identity which we all can relate to. Like Theodore Roosevelt once said, Americanism is a question of principle, of idealism, of character. It is not a matter of birthplace, or creed, or line of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Distance The Amino Acid Traveled From The Origin The data that was collected throughout the experiment shows the distance the amino acid traveled from the origin. This data was used to calculate the retardation factor also known as the Rf value; the distance that the spot traveled divided by the distance the solvent traveled. Based off of our data, the non polar amino acids show an upward linear trend in Rf as molecular weight increases. Conversely, the more polar the amino acids are the greater the downward linear trend is seen, as shown in figure 1.3. Based off of the direction that the amino acids moved on the thin layer chromatography sheet we can deduce that the hydrophobic molecules moved away from the solvent while the hydrophilic molecules still moved but remained closer to the origin of the sheet. The Rf value can provide evidence as to what the compound was. One way to fully authenticate the identity of a compound is to run a TLC sheet side by side with the compound that you are trying to identify. You can identify a substance if both compounds have the same Rf; they are likely identical substances. However, if their Rf values differ they are not the same compounds. We were able to see this take place in our experiment. As one can see from figure 1.3 D alanine and L alanine that have the same molecular structure, but are just mirror images on of one another, both have the same Rf value. Of course with any experiment there is room for error. One amino acid that our group noticed was that glutamic acid did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How Trade Policies Affect Economic Growth And Development One puzzle of the world economy is that... Why are some countries so much richer than other? Or to put it differently, why have some economies per capita income been growing at faster rates than others? Most likely, there are numerous factors that play a role. This essay is an attempt to enumerate and discuss at least some factors. A satisfactory understanding of economic growth also requires an appreciation of how countries interact with each other, because countries income levels are interdependent. Trade policies help foster these interactions between countries (and businesses). The question of how trade policies affect economic growth and development has become a controversial topic. After World War 2, colonial areas that gained independence after the war believed they could reach higher income levels like their former colonizer only through rapid government controlled industrialization. Many developing countries adopted measures intended to reduce their independence on the export of primary goods (such as coffee, copper, and wheat). The justification for such policies came from a belief that demand of primary goods to manufactures would decline in the future due to technological progress in developed countries. This idea came to be known as the Singer Prebisch Hypothesis. In other words, countries which rely on exports of agricultural products would eventually grow less quickly than other countries whose main exports were manufactured goods. Hence, the key to economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Difference Between Cruel And Unusual Punishment Capital Punishment: Is it cruel and unusual Punishment and is it Applied Equally? Throughout time, it appears that the best way society has punish death is through the killing of the killer. This is also mentioned in the Bible several times as an eye for an eye . In our current time, things have not changed much; revenge for murder is still strong. However, in the U.S., repaying death through death is done through the legal system. This is what is known as capital punishment. Ever since capital punishment was initiated, there have been many problems in terms of its continuality. Is the death penalty constitutional? This has been a question that Supreme Courts Justices have wrestled with for a really long time. The main constitutional question in terms of capital punishment is found in the Eight Amendment, which pretty much talks about the concept of cruel and unusual punishment. Capital Punishment can be agreed upon, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout history in the U.S., many civil rights leaders and others have attempted to argue about the cruelty of capital punishment, yet it s interesting to note that it s still. This issue is so controversial that the states themselves have to allowed to decide if capital punishment is constitutional or not. The state of Illinois, for example, has banned capital punishment, mainly because of concerns that innocent people are being lethally injected for crimes they never committed. There is a great concern that innocent people are being put to death. But Rehnquist, during the 1980s, never believed that presumed innocence should stand on the way of capital punishment, especially if little technical knowledge of the defendant was available. This stands true today, especially in light of use of DNA testing to prove criminality. However, if one were to apply Marshall s excessive force argument, one could argue that capital punishment is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Comparative Religion Essay Comparative religion is a relatively new discipline in theology. Comparative religion is the branch of theology that is concerned with the systematic comparison of the different religions of the world. Two religions that have been at the forefront of media attention in recent years are Islam and Christianity. These two religions have been constantly criticized by individuals who may have some knowledge of these religions, but have not dove into the depths to fully understand the origins and beliefs of these two very different religions. Before one can make claims and judgments on religions one must know the origin and belief systems of the religion. The origin of Christianity is said to have been around 27 CE to 30 CE, Christ s birth, during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 54. Summary Of The Gold Threaded Dress The Gold Threaded Dress Carolyn Marsden s book, The Gold Threaded Dress, follows the life of a young Thai girl named Oy as her family is forced to move neighborhoods because of the cheaper rent placing Oy at an entirely new school. She feels like an outsider at this new school because there is nobody that looks like her and she is constantly reminded of that because her peers mock her ethnicity daily. She wants nothing more than to fit in with the popular girls at their clubhouse. She gets that opportunity one day when a picture of her wearing a ceremonial silk dress with gold embroidery falls out of her backpack. The leader of the clubhouse, Liliandra, picks up the picture and notes how Oy looked like a princess and tells Oy that she can be in the clubhouse if she brings the dress to school so some of the other girls can try it on. Oy is hesitant at first, and even turns down the offer, but after imagining what it would be like to be in a friend group and a popular one at that Oy reluctantly agrees. The girls are not gentle with the dress and are each rushing to get it on all with Oy being a bystander as she hears rip after rip. After getting outed by the principal, Oy heads home thinking about how her mother, Kun Mere, will react. Luckily Mere understands, and with Oy s help, they are able to fix the dress. I believe that this book is a good representation of a multicultural text when basing it off Professor Boyd s qualities. The book was written in the year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Do Implanted Embryonic Dopamine Neurons in Parkinson s... The purpose of this paper was to describe the differences in neural activity in the motor circuit on animal subjects with hypo and hyperkinetic disorders. Hyperkinetic disorders are disorders that cause problems with movement initiation and reduce voluntary movements. While hyperkinetic disorders cause too much involuntary movements. There have been many primate models of Parkinson s diseasebut the one caused by MPTP is the one that is most alike to Parkinson s disease found in humans. Animals that are treated with MPTP develop symptoms that are similar to people with Parkinson s disease such as Akinesia, Bradykinesia, flexed posture, muscle rigidity, and postural tremor. Not all monkeys develop the tremor characteristic but the African... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was also a theory that damage to the STN would relief some of the symptoms of Parkinson s disease and to prove this, a test was conducted on monkeys. The results were that there was an immediate relief of akinesia and bradykinesia in contralateral limbs, this was the first support of a positive role that the STN serves on hyperkinetic disorders. (Freed, 2001) The purpose of this study was to see whether implanted embryonic dopamine neurons in Parkinson s disease patients led to a relieve of symptoms and also to see whether age played a role in whether the implanted neurons survived. All the participants were patients with Parkinson s disease who had if for at least seven years and had all three signs of Parkinson s disease. The patients were placed in groups of ten, some were given sham surgery and others transplantation. This was a double blind study. What was found was that patients who were 60 or younger actually responded better to the treatment and of the 40 patients only 39 actually completed the study, one of the patients died in a car crash before the study was finished the study lasted for a whole year. Also only patients who were 60 or younger reported positive feedback like showing actual improvement. The other patients were actually showing negative results which is not good because that meant that the disease was actually getting worse. The scores of one of the tests used showed some differences between the sham group and transplant group when not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Travels Of Marco Polo The Travels of Marco Polo begins with the journey taken by Marco Polo s father and his uncle, in which they go to present day china and meet Kublai Khan. The Polo s family were the first Europeans that Khan got to meet. The Polo s represent the ideals of Europeans and Khan was very interested about their way of life. He wanted to know everything they knew about European politics, religion, and their justice system, And then he inquired about the Pope and the Church, and about all that is done at Rome, and all the customs of the Latins (chapter 4). Kublai Khanwillingness to learn about Christianity was interesting. Different countries had their own beliefs. During these time periods, people began to explore the world and enlighten others on how other cultures live. Kahn allowed his people to belief in other religions. Not many leaders will allowed that. This is so different from the romans, who persecuted Christians for their beliefs, fearing something different from them. Kahn probably knew that allowing different religions gave his people more knowledge of other cultures. His society was moving with the times. The country not being under one influence represented how the word is. The world is populated with different types of people and cultures. In 1271, the siblings and Marco Polo set off to come back to Kublai Khan with a specific end goal to satisfy whatever is left of his solicitation, which was to convey hallowed oil from Jerusalem.
