Animal Testing Is Wrong
Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in the United States from animal testing. These
animals are harmed or even killed more than half of the time that they are experimented on. These
harmless animals are taken and forced into captivity for different kinds of testing from day to day.
They are forced to stay in cages all day long and only get to eat what they are given based on testing
for that day. Animals are just like people; they need to exercise, have interactions, be able to eat when
hungry, etc., but laboratories take away these privileges from the animals by trapping them in the lab
all day. Animal testing is wrong and harmful in many ways. Animal testing is wrong because it keeps
the animals in captivity; they are constantly trapped and used for human benefits. Animal testing is
also harmful to the animals because they are sometimes hurt, or even killed due to the experiment. It is
very unlikely that the animals are unaffected by tests done in the laboratory. In addition, animal testing
is wrong and unnecessary since humans and animals are not the same. The effects of the experiment
are sometimes completely different from animals to humans; therefore, they make poor test subjects.
Many people believe that killing helpless animals is horrifying and hurting animals is unnecessary.
Everytime we use animals for animal testing there is a great chance of death for the animals. Animal
testing also hurts the animals every time the test goes wrong or uses a

Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay
I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba,
but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in
mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were
shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution
was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story,
Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that
things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. Castro goes on to talk about how
these revolutionaries always seem to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that
is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently
despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do
more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes
or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were
important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander
or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to
the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro
trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking
statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will
resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was
surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was
in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and
executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). It is hard for me to comprehend how Castro
could feel that these

The Relationship between Strategic Planning and Effective...
Critically evaluate significance strategic planning relates effective leadership
Introduction
Leadership is the set of capabilities that a person has to influence the minds of people in a group of
persons, making this team to work with enthusiasm, but the reality is different, in achieving goals and
objectives. (Koys, 2001, pp26 33) It is also understood as the ability to take initiative, manage, hold,
promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. (Goffee and Jones, 2000, pp117 28) In
business management leadership is the exercise of executive activity in a project effectively and
efficiently, whether personal or institutional management (within the administrative process of the
organization).
Literature review
In the analysis of organizational development is necessary to have a good agent of change, which is a
person who deliberately acts on the environment to facilitate or promote the implementation of the
projected change. In this regard, Block (2003, pp45 49), he adds any person or system that contributes
through direct or indirect to the implementation of change is a change agent.
However, the dictionary of Aurelio Buarque de Holanda, defines the word agent, as one who practices
the action, acting, author, originator, sponsor, promoter, promoter. But that makes sense to adapt the

David Cay Johnston s Use Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Rhetorical Analysis Paper The use of rhetoric is powerful, dangerous, and has the influence to change
people s opinion. So in the article Art of the Steal: This Is How Trump Lost $916M and Avoided Tax
David Cay Johnston effectively uses rhetoric to suede his viewers towards his opinion. Johnston uses
pathos, ethos, logos, tonal shifts, and inductive and deductive reasoning to try to explain to his readers
how the presidential candidate ,Donald Trump, lost and made money..The author explains how the use
of ethos, the appealing towards ethics, helps shift the audience s view of Donald Trump. Johnston also

Role of the School Counsellor
Divya Srivastava
THE ROLE OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
School counselling is a branch of applied psychology that deals with problems or behaviours that
interfere with the academic progress or social acceptance of children in the school system. School
counsellors assess cognitive functioning and identify mental retardation, giftedness, developmental
delays, instructional difficulties, and learning disabilities. They recommend educational programs;
assess behavioural and emotional problems, and support parents and teachers. They also deal with the
full spectrum of social problems including family violence, peer interactions, substance abuse, sexual
abuse, neglect and the influences of these problems on school functioning. School counsellors ... Show

The history of school counselling around the world varies greatly based on how different countries
and local communities have chosen to provide academic, career, college readiness, and personal skills
and competencies to students from kindergarten to standard twelve and their families based on
economic and social capital resources and public versus private educational settings in what is now
called a school counselling program. In the United States of America, the profession of the school
counsellor began as a vocational guidance movement at the beginning of the twentieth century
(Schmidt, 2003). In India, school counsellors are still not prominent. Their roles in the school setting
are still not properly recognized and understood by the other educators. School counselling is a recent
development. The impetus for development of school based counselling has a number of causes,
according to Bor. He says that everyday life can be challenging and stressful for even the most
resilient of children. Competitiveness, bullying,

social exclusion, homophobia, abuse, family crises, discrimination, sibling rivalry, scholastic
underachievement, peer pressure and substance misuse are only a few problems that children bring to
the school counsellor s office. Schools are no different from homes in the sense that they are also
considered a primary and essential context for supporting, nurturing and facilitating educational,
moral and social development in

Choosing The Choice Of The Right College
Choosing the right college to attend is like choosing which chocolate bar to eat. There is such a variety
of chocolate bars just like there is such a variety of colleges. Some candy bars are salty and sweet
while are others have additional flavors added; the same is true for colleges, there are some colleges
that have unique extra curricular activities while other colleges have very rigorous academic
programs. All of the chocolate bars are good, but in the end, someone is only going to choose one the
bar that they choose is the one that they feel will satisfy their needs and wants the best. In this paper I
will compare the admission requirements, degree requirements, location and demographics of
Oklahoma Baptist University and Colorado State University. Also, I will explain the graduate program
at Colorado State University, and the college I would choose based on all three individual college
studies. Finally, I will include a high school plan that will show the classes I plan on taking in high
school so I can get where I want to go. To begin, the admission requirements for Oklahoma Baptist
University, otherwise known as OBU, are very simple; however, they only accept sixty percent of
applicants ( Oklahoma Baptist University ). This means that students need to excel in the few
admittance requirements, so they can provide themselves with the highest opportunity of getting
accepted. In order to get accepted to OBU, students need to have an ACT composite of at least twenty

Clark University Application Essay
My interest with Clark University began prior to my college experience, by hearing Dr. Goldberg and
other Clark Professors on NPR and in the media, discussing the topics that I now consider my primary
research interests. As an undergraduate student I continued to listen to these interviews and look into
the research they cited, which eventually lead me to the psychology programs and active labs of Clark
University. I was extremely interested in the opportunities I saw for research and teaching
assistantship. As someone with experience as a teacher s assistant, I know how well it can help both
socially and financially. Such a partnership helps students engage student body, build rapport with
professors, and gain active experience and competence in their field. By having these assistantships
available, Clark University is showing a dedication to student support and success both in and beyond
the university. I was also attracted to the collaboration between department and local hospitals,
schools, head start programs, and has had joint programs with the Clark University Medical school.

Analysis Of Indigenous Literacy Strategies
Indigenous Literacy Strategies
According to Harris and Sellwood (2016, p. 140), throughout history and in all years of school, the
average literacy levels for Indigenous students are far lower than the average levels for Australian
students as a whole. Moreover, the Closing the Gap campaign acknowledges the statistics from the
NAPLAN tests that indicate that Indigenous students are falling behind in literacy skills compared to
non Indigenous pupils (Australian Government, 2017). Therefore, the campaign s target is that by
2018 to halve the gap for Indigenous children in reading, writing and numeracy. There are many
factors that contribute to the lower literacy skills of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Becoming A Major Music Producer
The career in music that I want to pursue is becoming a major music producer and songwriter. My
goal is to be like the major producers in the music industry and lead the sound in popular music, be
able to be at a caliber of artists like Max Martin, Timbaland, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, and Jon
Bellion. The steps I plan to follow to achieve this goal begin with studying music, I d start with all
kinds of music at first to get a good grasp of music structure and content. I think it s very important to
fully understand how most, if not all music is made, from the chord progressions, melodies, drum
patterns, vocal techniques, tones, and lyrical content that is used in each genre, especially music that is
broadly liked, being able to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, I would want to work on music for myself. I give myself 2 years to be at this point,
This leads into step four of my plan where I d start working on my own project, with the musical skill

point where my skills and style have been sharpened to where I at least I have an idea of how to make
a good song. While producing the project, I would work on gathering a team to help with the release
of it. Mainly focusing on advertisement and knowing how to spread It (social media mainly because it
seems like the best option.) I d release the project for free because I don t feel like you can release
music as a new artist and have people want to pay for it in this day in age. Also collaborating with
other people with followings as an artist instead of being behind the scenes of the music making.
Through this form of releasing music, I feel like you re more likely to grow an organic fan base and a
devoted following. Even though I would have supposedly made songs for

Compare And Contrast Sonnet 60 And 64
Sonnets 60 and 64 are about the effects of time. This is a recurrent theme in Shakespeare s poems.
Through the use of imagery, Shakespeare provides relatable experiences to describe the passage of
time. Sonnet 60 provides three examples of the passage of time the first is waves moving towards a
shore, the second is a child growing to maturity, and the third is time s effects on the beauty of youth.
Sonnet 64 provides three of Shakespeare s personal experiences the first is time s effects on towers
and brass, the second is the ocean and a shore, the third is the change of condition of things. Both
sonnets have similarities and differences in themes, structure, and speech acts.
Sonnets 60 and 64 have a similar theme of Time destroying things and eventually taking his love
away. The difference is that sonnet 60 has a more hopeful ending than sonnet 64. In the couplet of
sonnet 60 Shakespeare has hope that his verse will stand against time and the poem ... Show more

In both sonnets the word confound is used to describe the actions of Time. This word in both sonnets

end with a word that contains a long a sound for example: defaced, age, razed, rage, gain, main, state,
decay, ruminate, and away. This repetition could symbolize that Time s effects are constant. The poem
also ends with the word lose so this could mean Time s effects are constant until the thing it is
effecting is lost. There is one subject per quatrain in sonnet 60. In quatrain one the subject is waves,
quatrain two the subject is nativity, and in quatrain three the subject is Time. In sonnet 64 there is only
one main subject and verb which is I and the verb is Seen . However, in the couplet of sonnet 64 the
subject is ambiguous. It could be the thought or death that is doing the action of weeping for

Executive Summary:
Prince Edward Island Preserve manufactures and produced high quality, high priced specialty food
products. P.E.I.P.C. experienced rapid growth in its short history. In the first few years of its existence,
founder Bruce MacNaughton expanded his company from one manufacturing and retail outlet in
1989, following a second retail outlet in 1991. The company also diversified and opened two
restaurants in 1989 and 1990 respectively. It is anticipated that P.E.I.P.C. will continue to grow, with
projected sales for the year ending January 1992, to reach one million dollars.

advantage or negate threats. Japanese tourist comprises a large number of visitors to Prince Edward

are well known to Japan. Essentially, the high level of spending by the Japanese, their fascination with
P.E.I., traditions of gift giving and the amount of disposal income available to them, indicates that
opportunities in Japan might be successful.
Rarity P.E.I.P.C can enjoy temporary competitive advantage, so long as the content of ingredients used

Inimitability/Non substitutability Other firms in P.E.I. has begun to retail specialty preserves in hopes
to profit from P.E.I.P.C. s success. Competitors might be able to imitate or substitute the value and

[Note Fig. 7.1.] III. ECONOMIC RATIONALES FOR GOVERNMENTAL INTERVENTION
Government intervention in the trade process may be either economic or noneconomic in nature. [See
Table 7.1.] A. Unemployment Persistent unemployment pushes many groups to call for protectionism;
one of the most effective is organized labor. By limiting imports, local jobs are retained as firms and
consumers are forced to purchase domestically produced goods and services. However, unless the
protectionist country is relatively small, such measures usually do little to limit unemployment. On the
other hand, they may result in a decline in export related jobs because of (i) price increases for
components or (ii) lower incomes abroad. Further, such measures are likely to lead to retaliation
unless either the protectionist or the affected country is relatively small. Thus, governments must
carefully balance the costs of higher prices with the costs of unemployment and the displaced
production that would result from freer trade when enacting such measures. B. Infant Industry
Argument First presented by Alexander Hamilton in 1792, the infant industry argument holds that a
government should temporarily shield emerging industries in which the country may ultimately
possess a comparative advantage from international competition until

Summary Of The Poem XIV By John Walcott
From the very beginning of the poem XIV , it is clear the author is describing an experience that has
left a lasting impression on him. Walcott vividly details his childhood visit with the elderly storyteller,
and his journey there. Throughout the poem the author uses poetic devices to convey how this
experience was a defining moment in his transformation from childhood to adulthood, and contributed
to his identity and newfound wisdom. It is apparent from the first line of the poem that author is in a
state of overriding fear travelling through the unknown: likening the road to an old snake shedding its
skin. A snake is a clear representation of childhood fear and youthful paranoia, due to its intimidating
nature. Walcott compares the path to a snake because he fears it just like a snake, to him the path is
daunting and potentially deadly at first. The author not only compares the road to a snake but a snake
shedding its skin. This paints a grotesque image for readers and illustrates how he views his initial
journey with anything but enthusiasm. The author is in the unfamiliar wilderness searching for not
only the storyteller s house but himself. His state of childhood terror is only counterbalanced by his
encounter with the storyteller. Walcott effectively separates the poem into two parts according to the
state of mind he was in: fright and then wonder. He shifts from these two contrasting moods by stating

Hockey is a fast paced sport with little time to react or prepare for a hit correctly. The knowledge of
knowing how to take a hit is just as important on how to distribute a hit. Both can cause significant
harm to both players if not done right. The biggest rule to follow when you are about to get hit is to
have a low base. This means to have your knees bent at about ninety or so degrees and to put most of
your weight on the ball of your foot. This way your center of gravity is lower and you have more
balance. This also protects more of your limbs from getting hit. As opposed to standing up with makes
you unbalanced and prone to worse injuries. Another crucial part of the game is how you give a hit.
Many clinics have been set up to show how to properly hit, but boys tend to ignore the rules and just

be practiced on at least once every week or two weeks. But even the knowledge of how to hit and how
to take a hit isn t enough. Proper stretching and strength training has proven to strengthen muscles and
to allow flexibility and decrease injuries (Mick). More players should take advantage of doing a full,

Pros And Cons Of College Parking
A True Nightmare in College: Parking
Waking up on time, finding your classroom, as well as showing, are just some of the stressful parts of
going to Cleveland State as a commuter, let alone finding a place to park. The necessity of finding a
parking spot on campus close to the correct buildings is a must if you plan on commuting. On top of
paying for tuition, students are asked to pay another fee to park on campus. One would think that if the
parking pass was bought, a spot would be automatically a given fact, but for some they are hard to
find. The question is should every student that buys a parking pass be granted a parking spot in the
designated area of their choice? I think that if you spend the money to park you should have a spot no
matter what time you come on campus.
As a student you are expected to show up to class on time in order to get the most out of the class
time. This can be hard for some students as well as professors because when they arrive on campus
there is no place for to park. They then spend the time they gave themselves for leeway, driving
around in search of a spot. This causes them to be late.
In an effort to reduce the confusion of parking Cleveland State sells parking passes. The passes vary in

The Interceptors-Personal Narrative
That was my sister. She growled. My sister. Her voice was boiling. I m so sorry. I backed away,
gaining my footing to stand up properly. The hunter was cowering over her sister s body, her face full
of denial and misery. I was furious over the unknown hunter, who gave their life to the cause. The
slight urge to find my dad and Alice became a yearning sensation. I charged through a hazardous path
of swords and their swordsmen, slaying every Interceptor that I passed. Chunks of black skin flew
from the Interceptors and regenerated almost immediately. The girl s sister was a crumpled heap on

minutes. Crystal screamed again, another bite, and she staggered back. Her position was putting her at

Today s newer vehicles come equipped with a catalytic converter. Designed to reduce emissions, the

the catalytic converter can break and fail. Luckily, you can reduce the amount of damage a failing

So what are some symptoms that indicate your catalytic converter is failing? Here are three.

Perhaps one of the most noticeable signs that your catalytic converter is having issues is reduced

Another symptom that your catalytic converter is damaged is an unusual rattling noise. In general,
your vehicle shouldn t make any odd or loud noises. If you do begin to hear a rattling sound, it s likely
that the meshes inside the converter are breaking. As these tiny pieces break, they cause a rattling
sound. As you might expect, this sound will continue to get worse over time as the converter
deteriorates. So if you hear this sound, get it addressed quickly to prevent serious damages to your
vehicle.
3. Pungent Exhaust Odors
Exhaust isn t pleasant to smell. However, if may become worse or much more noticeable when the
catalytic converter begins to fail. As fuel builds up in your converter, it will begin to burn and produce
a strong odor. Unfortunately, this can make your vehicle very dangerous as fuel and gases make your
vehicle more prone to fires. So if you smell anything unusual or pungent when driving your vehicle,
get it looked at as soon as

Should Australia Use Nuclear Powered Submarines
The concept of a submersible boat has existed since the late 1500s, with the first working submarine
constructed in 1623 by Cornelius Drebbel (Harris 2015). Since then the complexity of submarine
technology has greatly evolved, largely due to funding by various militaries across the world. The first
two Australian Submarines were commissioned in 1914 and deployed during World War 1, with both
submarines lost during the conflict (Australian Submarine Corporation n.d.). As of 2015 the Royal
Australian Navy s submarine fleet consists of 6 Collins class submarines, but arrangements are being
made by the Government for a new state of the art submarine fleet to be constructed (McPhedran
2014). Although one of the specifications that the government has stated about their planned
submarines is that they cannot be nuclear powered, this investigation will look into whether this
guideline is necessary or suitable for the next generation of Australian submarines. The focus question
for this investigation is Would it be beneficial for Australia to acquire and use Nuclear Powered
Submarines? Submarines require a great deal of energy in order to propel itself while out at sea,
energy which is generally provided by a reactor. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular the amount of time a nuclear submarine can remain submerged is far superior to that of a
non nuclear powered submarine. A diesel fuelled submarine is capable of remaining submerged for
approximately one month before needing to re emerge above water, conversely a nuclear powered
submarine is capable of remaining underwater indefinitely, with the only limiting factors being the
limitations of the crew (Friedman 2011). As a result nuclear powered submarines are capable of
spending a greater amount of time on reconnaissance missions without the need to refuel or resurface

Hate Wearing Seatbelt
I used to hate wearing my seatbelt. It irritated me how the portion of it that goes across my chest
would scratch the side of my neck. I would have battles with it at times on how annoying it was. I only
wore the part that went around my waist because that is all I would tolerate. My parents would yell at
me about it because it was dangerous. But I was 9, and what do 9 year olds even care about at the time
anyway? We just want to have fun! I never understood the seriousness of wearing the seatbelt until

Hill Is The Most Critical Of All
Of the majority of the standards of Think and Grow Rich!, the rule of Desire is probably the most
critical of all. Hence, Hill has set it at the earliest reference point of his book.To comprehend what Hill
implies by Desire, it is vital to overlook all meanings of thoughtful envisioning that the word may
hold. Slope s Desire is not about wishing, as wishes might work out as expected, as a rule by the
activity of some outside operator. It s about needing. Just when a man or lady genuinely needs
something does he or she act towards achieving what is needed. Where wishing is frequently vague
and hesitant, needing is very much characterized and focuses on a strategy. While needing something
is completely created and working for you subliminally at painfully inconvenient times of the day, you
have Desire. Guarantee that your needs get to be Desire, Hill proposes setting aside some opportunity
to build up an unmistakable and succinct articulation of that Desire. It is vital, he contends, to be
particular. On the off chance that the Desire is to have cash, the measure of cash must be indicated or
Desire transforms into wish. Slope additionally felt that it is critical to set up when the objective is to
be accomplished and what administration or positive attitude be rendered thusly for the accomplishing
of the objective. This ought to all meet up in an activity plan, which will be returned to frequently to
engrave the Desire in the brain. The peruser knowledgeable in self

What Is Lean Management And The Practical Concepts Within It
Introduction
The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of lean management and the
practical concepts within it. Lean management is an approach used to strategize development planning
and improving targets, while delivering value to customers. Although company leaders may be
enthused and conversant frequently they lack the ability to empower people to respond effectively to
customer needs and competitive threats. Implementing a lean management system it shows how to
support a company s transformation by linking strategic management to companywide activities that
furthers the corporate vision. Lean management is about operating the most efficient and effective
organisation possible with least cost and zero waste (Thomas L. Jackson, 1996). In order to analyse
this in a more in depth this assignment will examine Subway s operational management. Operation
management is the activity of managing the resources which create and deliver the product and
services.
1. About Subway Subway is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world that mainly sells
sandwiches and salads. It is one of the fastest growing franchises with 44,447 outlets in 111 countries.
Despite the difference in sizes and location of each individual store, Subway demonstrates to have
simple operations means customers can have the same sandwich and experience in the independent of
geographical location. Subway s brand target market is adults between the ages of 16 and 39.

The Cha Slide Analysis
Empowerment versus Exploitation: Children and the Media
Throughout this semester our class has discussed the contrasting views on the influence of media and
television on children. In this paper, I will take this conversation a step further by delving into the
complexities of the opposing views of child protection. American children in today s culture spend
almost six hours a day with various forms of media. The media attacks children s agency though their
culture and I will attempt to highlight how this attack can negatively affect and influence children as
consumers. In this paper, I argue that media targets children through their sense of agency and
empowerment
Parents have difficulty raising their children the way they want to because kids are being influenced
by commercialism that often contradicts the goals and objectives of the parent. In Sarah Banet Weiser

The lyrics of The Cha Cha Slide tell you step by step directions of how to dance to this specific beat.
It is an easy to learn, catchy song that appeals to young children. The lyrics of this song tell you
exactly what moves to do; for example it says, Slide to the left...slide to the right. The song explicitly
commands the audience to perform specific movements, thus everyone does the same exact
movements. This song choice is meaningful as it parallels how adults command their children to
behave in a certain manner. Just as children desire the ability to break free of this parental oppression,
the boy in the video does not allow the song to dictate what moves he performs. In fact, he completely
ignores the song and freestyles his own dance moves. For example, the song says Everybody! Clap

Socrates And Achilles
Socrates and Achilles: the Martyr Heroes
Madelyn Vogel
ILS 205
By comparing himself to the Greek hero Achilles before the jury in Plato s Apology, Socrates attempts
to portray himself as a hero of equal merit to Achilles and others of similar standing. By selecting the
greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates
surreptitiously urges his audience to view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. This not only
authenticates Socrates claims, but also exhibits his disconnect from earlier forms of thought.
Essentially, Socrates attempts to display himself in the same light as his predecessor Achilles through
their shared aspiration to do what they deem to be right in addition to their ... Show more content on

At the battle of Troy, Achilles chooses almost certain death in exchange for the honor of avenging
Patroclus. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My
son, if you avenge the death of your friend Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for
straightway, after Hector, is death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is
relatively loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on private
affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss in the form of his
beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates represents the Greek hero as
being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining honor and justice for both himself and his
peers. Through this specific example, Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is
both willing and able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances
condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for comparing himself to
Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the jury of his Achillean heroism. One
attribute of a hero according to the events of the Iliad is that one must either kill or be killed in the
pursuit of honor. Correspondingly, the Iliad chronicles Achilles life and death on the natural path to
heroism. Despite the

Crime in America Essay
Parole (early release from prison) is often referred to as the back door to the US corrections system.
The concept of parole dates back to the establishment of the Elmira Reformatory. The goal of the
Elmira Reformatory was to rehabilitate and reform the criminal instead of following the traditional
method of silence, obedience, and labor. Parole was originally set up to encourage prisoners to do
well, keep their noses clean, and become model prisoners. Once a prisoner had shown rehabilitation
and reform they were released prior to the execution of their full sentence.
Before a prisoner can be released on parole he/she must meet before a parole board. Each prison with

The job of these members is to determine whether or not the inmate up for parole is suitable for
release.
Before an inmate comes before the parole board there are procedures that must happen. The first thing
that happens is the inmate s name will appear on a computer generated list. The victims will be
notified of the possible parole. The list of names is sent to the Transitional Planning Department. At
the TPD a case manager will be assigned to interview the inmate and find out his/her plan for parole.
This plan is filed and is sent to the parole board. The parole board then interviews the inmate and will
vote on the case. If parole is granted the prison officials will prepare the inmate for release. However
if parole is denied the inmate will be given a conditional release date which is usually within one to
three years where the process will start all over.
In order to determine whether or not the inmate is suitable for parole the board will review his/her
record. This record has past convictions, education obtained, prior employment, and behavior in
prison among other things. The way that the system is set up only those who have been reformed and
rehabilitated and serve as no threat to society will be released. In theory this is an excellent system if
used right.
However in today s society we do not have the resources or facilities to use this system properly. We

Racism And The Gay Community
In a time when countless citizens of the United State were homophobic, how were Blackmun and
Stevens, both of which were thought to be conservatives, open to the claims of the gay community?
My answer to this question before I read a single word assigned, was easy they must have known
someone who was gay. I believe it is simple to be against something that you don t understand
anything about. It is pompous to say that homosexuals are immoral, perverted, disgusting sinners
when you have never knowingly interacted with a homosexual. However, becoming acquainted with
someone will likely change your mind; especially if it is someone you would consider a friend. Being
able to put a face and an emotion to discrimination often times make the discrimination appalling. The
Justices involved in this case ruled the way they did individually because of their personal
relationships, or lack thereof, with gay people. Come to find out, I was right regarding Blackmun.
Justice Blackmun knew gay couples: he was able to put a face and an emotion to the discrimination
(Eskridge 165). I was unable to find out if Justice Stevens knew any gay couples, but I would still
contend he probably did. However, both men had other reasons to dissent. Both Blackmun and
Stevens believed in privacy laws and believed your home was a place the government could not
interfere. Blackmun believed White was challenging the ongoing validity of Roe, a precedent that
Blackmun guarded with the ferocity of a tigress

The Marrow of Tradition and House of Mirth
Class, gender, and race are just a few of the classifications that have directly impacted one s financial,
legal, and personal freedoms throughout history. There are several examples in Charles Waddell
Chesnutt s The Marrow of Tradition and Edith Wharton s House of Mirth that will shed light to the
many situations in which the characters find themselves that display the sort of inequality that was
quite common in the 20th century. In the case of The Marrow Tradition, white supremacy and racism
are major themes and while some of the characters are sympathetic towards the African Americans in
Wellington, North Carolina, there are many that are uncomfortable with the idea of white and black
equality in any sense. It is Major Carteret s personal belief that no two races can live together except
in relation of superior and inferior (Chesnutt 31). He also believes that African Americans were not
educated or experienced enough to be able to participate in specific things such as government. It did
not help that African Americans were said to have criminal tendencies either (Chesnutt 31). Many
people share in his particular views, two such people are Captain McBane and General Belmont.

Port Chicago Mutiny Essay
This paper will focus on the evaluation of the historic investigative report done by the History
Channel, The Port Chicago Mutiny. Following two intense explosions on July 17, 1944, that killed
321 people in San Francisco at Port Chicago. From the movie, it can be surmised that the investigation
is about how the United States Navy knowingly placed black sailors in danger, causing their deaths
and refusing, then and now, to exonerate survivors of the tragic explosions. To begin with, the
documentary started to explain the racial history of the United States and the Navy. Because of Jim
Crow Law s, there was a clear racial divide in the nation, and the military had only then begun to
allow people of color to join. Black people that joined the Navy were not allowed to serve in combat.

The Historical Cultural Context
In regards to the historical cultural context, one must be fully aware of this when reading Gods word.
According to Duval Hayes (2008), Historical cultural context relates to just about anything outside the
text that will help you to understand the text itself (What is Historical Cultural Context section, para
1). When an individual approaches the Bible text without any concern for the historical cultural
context, it can lead to misinterpretation and misunderstanding of the text. If one is to fully understand
the messages in the Biblical text, one must pay careful attention to the culture in that particular time in
history, as well as the background of the author, relationships, etc... Not taking the time to gather the
particulars, and gaining understanding of the entire context (cultural historical), will ultimately lead

Rembrandt Impact On Art
Dutch painter, Rembrandt van Rijn, went beyond the traditional art styles and changed the art world
forever. He lived during the Dutch Golden Age. The Dutch Golden Age took place in the 17th

(Rembrandt and the). Artists such as Rembrandt took advantage of the changes and captured the
transformation of the world through art. Rembrandt was born on July 15, 1606. First he had to develop
as an artist, then he was able to become an independent artist which lead to the rest of his life. By his

Rembrandt died October 4, 1669. Rembrandt himself may have left the earth, but his impact on the art

Many people like to spend their vacation in a different country and like to travel. It is always exciting
to explore and discover new cities and cultures. Over the years the way to get to other countries
became easier. The rate of international visitors is rising everywhere around the globe and tourism
brings some good and bad aspects to each individual country. Due to traveling becoming more
popular, Tourism has both benefitted and harmed nearly every country in the world.
Thailand has a big profit from tourism; the tourism in Thailand, especially in Phuket economically
benefits local people, but the negative impact that tourism leaves on the environment and economy
stand out more. Alone in 2016, tourism created 2,313,500 jobs, such as transportation, entertainment,
attractions and accommodation and is supposed to rise to 2,458,500 jobs in 2107, also lodging and
food and beverage services; retail trade; transportation services; cultural, sports and recreational
services . Thailand has expectations to attract up to 35,527,000 tourists in 2017 (World Travel Tourism
Council 6,8). One of Thailand s most visited places is Phuket. The economy benefits by having more
jobs for local people. And the majority of them work in the new hotel industry business. Others
operate souvenir shops or are food producers for local restaurant and hotels. Though, not every local
person has the opportunity to get a job, the wealth gap between the local citizens and developers is
huge (Impacts

Personal Narrative-White Ball
The crowd screaming, the disappointment in my eyes, the beautiful sky, the white ball flying, the
bleachers packed. These are all my memories. Do they relate to yours? Read on to find out.
Have you ever been to a pep rally? I have. People are yelling the loud chants and cheers. Everybody
complimented me on my bright red cape on my sock. Then the stuco people started the cheers, and I
swear my ears haven t worked the same sense. We started cheering for fall sports teams and I watched
Adrianna run out with the 8th grade volleyball team. We were all standing on the seats in front of us.
As 7th grade stuco tried to calm us down, the cold bleachers were chilling. All the smelly football
players ran into the gym. Then Mr.Winterboer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do. It was my first volleyball game and I was team captain. I served first and the ball dropped fast
and it was an ace. My teammates high fived me and my mom and dad cheered me on. The next serve
the team hit it over and we hit it in the net. I got out and took a drink of ice cold water. When I got
back in I saved the ball from hitting the ground Morgan slapped my hand and we kept playing. The
ball was wet from everybody s sweat it was disgusting. Kenzie served and it went over, it was an ace.
We all screamed ah team . The game was over and we had won.
Do you remember the the fun of high school football games? I do. The cold rough bleachers and my
warm soft blanket. Everybody was having fun even though we were probable losing. When we finally
got a touchdown everyone went wild. The players were being tackled but most of us didn t care.
Hayden was trying to steal my side of the blanket so I pushed him and he started fake crying I had to
calm him down. The amount of selfies going on were insane. My hot chocolate was delicious and my
popcorn was awesome too. The game ended and we will all remember that last football game.
The crowd screaming, the disappointment in my eyes, the beautiful sky, the white ball flying, the
bleachers packed. Now that you ve read my stories, what do you think? Do you relate to

The Film Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
It s more than difficult living in a drug plagued, impoverished community. These places are often
ignored, but just as important as anywhere else. The film Moonlight, directed by Barry Jenkins, is
meant to demonstrate the hardships of living in a difficult community. Thematically, it highlights the
already difficult nature of being black in modern America, while simultaneously showing the hardship
of also being gay in said tough community. The film is comprised into three acts surrounding the
development of the protagonist, Chiron (in order of acts: Alex R. Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and
Trevant Rhodes). Following him as he struggles with his own sexuality. Consequentially, each act
circles back to Chiron at a local beach, which for him, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blocking in this scene is also a foreshadow for the rest of the movie. In the beginning, Chiron is
scared and unsure of who he is, turning to the help of others like Juan and his girlfriend, Teresa.
However, after trial and tribulation, Chiron learns how to swim on his own. He slowly starts
understanding how to cope with his sexuality even if he s not accepted. And unfortunately, for most of
the film, Chiron is subjected to the sad realities that engulf everyone around him.
As expected, this happy scene is cut short as Chiron is dropped off at home to find his mother with
drugs and a stranger in the house. The scene is meant to immediately draw the viewer back to the real
world, the one Chiron has grown up in. In actuality, Chiron can t just escape the situation he was born
into. The mise ĆØn scene used in this moment is meant to demonstrate how the mother is quickly losing
grasp of a happy life; trying to escape their reality by any means necessary. The blocking of Paula
portrays her as anxious and angry, grabbing what appears to be drugs from her dining table. The
lighting is also dark and the house is dirty, reinforcing the idea that her life is slipping away. This is
just one of many situations in which Chiron is snapped back into reality after feeling accepting for
who he is.
Act two cuts to Chiron as a high schooler. Like before, his quiet nature seems to get the best

The And Implementation Of Rapid Response Teams
Much like the human body, healthcare is a complex system that must be assessed and reviewed
routinely to identify the dysfunctions or parts that are in need of intervention. It is the job of nurses,
doctors and other healthcare professionals to recognize and communicate when there is a need for
change or improvement in order for patients to receive the highest standard of care and optimal health
outcomes. The creation and implementation of Rapid Response Teams were one of the many strategies
initiated in the 100,000 Lives Campaign (2004) instituted by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement
(IHI) in effort to reduce morbidity and mortality in the United States health care system. Rapid
Response Teams (RRT) are groups of specialized, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Carlo Parker, the literature suggests that RRT s are underutilized either by delayed
activation or failure to activate entirely. This underutilization is shown to lead to failure to rescue. The
objective of this study was to determine the relationship between nurses decision making model
during RRT activation and the frequency of the RRT activation (Parker, 2014). Lauri and Salantera
(2002) have identified three decision making models that are utilized by nurses to make clinical
judgments based off of information processing and intuitive humanistic theories (Parker, 2014). The
first model is the analytical decision making, which involves the collection of data, forming a
hypothesis and continuing to collect data until a decision has been reached (Parker, 2014). Secondly,
the intuitive decision making is understanding without rationale (Parker, 2014). The third model is a
combination of the analytical and intuitive decision making. The registered nurses (RN) who
participated in this study were from an acute care unit who had activated the RRT at least once in the
past 12 months. The RN s were between the ages of 24 57, 91% were female, 63% of them held a
baccalaureate or master s degree in nursing and the average time working as an RN was 10 years
(Parker, 2014). The results of the study

  • 2. Animal Testing Is Wrong Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in the United States from animal testing. These animals are harmed or even killed more than half of the time that they are experimented on. These harmless animals are taken and forced into captivity for different kinds of testing from day to day. They are forced to stay in cages all day long and only get to eat what they are given based on testing for that day. Animals are just like people; they need to exercise, have interactions, be able to eat when hungry, etc., but laboratories take away these privileges from the animals by trapping them in the lab all day. Animal testing is wrong and harmful in many ways. Animal testing is wrong because it keeps the animals in captivity; they are constantly trapped and used for human benefits. Animal testing is also harmful to the animals because they are sometimes hurt, or even killed due to the experiment. It is very unlikely that the animals are unaffected by tests done in the laboratory. In addition, animal testing is wrong and unnecessary since humans and animals are not the same. The effects of the experiment are sometimes completely different from animals to humans; therefore, they make poor test subjects. Many people believe that killing helpless animals is horrifying and hurting animals is unnecessary. Everytime we use animals for animal testing there is a great chance of death for the animals. Animal testing also hurts the animals every time the test goes wrong or uses a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba, but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story, Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. Castro goes on to talk about how these revolutionaries always seem to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). • 4. The Relationship between Strategic Planning and Effective... Critically evaluate significance strategic planning relates effective leadership Introduction Leadership is the set of capabilities that a person has to influence the minds of people in a group of persons, making this team to work with enthusiasm, but the reality is different, in achieving goals and objectives. (Koys, 2001, pp26 33) It is also understood as the ability to take initiative, manage, hold, promote, encourage, motivate and evaluate a group or team. (Goffee and Jones, 2000, pp117 28) In business management leadership is the exercise of executive activity in a project effectively and efficiently, whether personal or institutional management (within the administrative process of the organization). Literature review In the analysis of organizational development is necessary to have a good agent of change, which is a person who deliberately acts on the environment to facilitate or promote the implementation of the projected change. In this regard, Block (2003, pp45 49), he adds any person or system that contributes through direct or indirect to the implementation of change is a change agent. However, the dictionary of Aurelio Buarque de Holanda, defines the word agent, as one who practices the action, acting, author, originator, sponsor, promoter, promoter. In the United States of America, the profession of the school counsellor began as a vocational guidance movement at the beginning of the twentieth century (Schmidt, 2003). • 13. Compare And Contrast Sonnet 60 And 64 Sonnets 60 and 64 are about the effects of time. This is a recurrent theme in Shakespeare s poems. Through the use of imagery, Shakespeare provides relatable experiences to describe the passage of time. Sonnet 60 provides three examples of the passage of time the first is waves moving towards a shore, the second is a child growing to maturity, and the third is time s effects on the beauty of youth. Sonnet 64 provides three of Shakespeare s personal experiences the first is time s effects on towers and brass, the second is the ocean and a shore, the third is the change of condition of things. Both sonnets have similarities and differences in themes, structure, and speech acts. Sonnets 60 and 64 have a similar theme of Time destroying things and eventually taking his love away. ECONOMIC RATIONALES FOR GOVERNMENTAL INTERVENTION Government intervention in the trade process may be either economic or noneconomic in nature. [See Table 7.1.] A. Unemployment Persistent unemployment pushes many groups to call for protectionism; one of the most effective is organized labor. By limiting imports, local jobs are retained as firms and consumers are forced to purchase domestically produced goods and services. However, unless the protectionist country is relatively small, such measures usually do little to limit unemployment. On the other hand, they may result in a decline in export related jobs because of (i) price increases for components or (ii) lower incomes abroad. Further, such measures are likely to lead to retaliation unless either the protectionist or the affected country is relatively small. Thus, governments must carefully balance the costs of higher prices with the costs of unemployment and the displaced production that would result from freer trade when enacting such measures. B. • 16. Summary Of The Poem XIV By John Walcott From the very beginning of the poem XIV , it is clear the author is describing an experience that has left a lasting impression on him. Walcott vividly details his childhood visit with the elderly storyteller, and his journey there. Throughout the poem the author uses poetic devices to convey how this experience was a defining moment in his transformation from childhood to adulthood, and contributed to his identity and newfound wisdom. It is apparent from the first line of the poem that author is in a state of overriding fear travelling through the unknown: likening the road to an old snake shedding its skin. A snake is a clear representation of childhood fear and youthful paranoia, due to its intimidating nature. Walcott compares the path to a snake because he fears it just like a snake, to him the path is daunting and potentially deadly at first. The author not only compares the road to a snake but a snake shedding its skin. This paints a grotesque image for readers and illustrates how he views his initial journey with anything but enthusiasm. The author is in the unfamiliar wilderness searching for not only the storyteller s house but himself. His state of childhood terror is only counterbalanced by his encounter with the storyteller. Walcott effectively separates the poem into two parts according to the state of mind he was in: fright and then wonder. He shifts from these two contrasting moods by stating There s childhood, and there s childhood s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unusual Rattling Noise Another symptom that your catalytic converter is damaged is an unusual rattling noise. In general, your vehicle shouldn t make any odd or loud noises. If you do begin to hear a rattling sound, it s likely that the meshes inside the converter are breaking. As these tiny pieces break, they cause a rattling sound. As you might expect, this sound will continue to get worse over time as the converter deteriorates. So if you hear this sound, get it addressed quickly to prevent serious damages to your vehicle. 3. Pungent Exhaust Odors Exhaust isn t pleasant to smell. However, if may become worse or much more noticeable when the catalytic converter begins to fail. What Is Lean Management And The Practical Concepts Within It Introduction The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of lean management and the practical concepts within it. Lean management is an approach used to strategize development planning and improving targets, while delivering value to customers. Although company leaders may be enthused and conversant frequently they lack the ability to empower people to respond effectively to customer needs and competitive threats. Implementing a lean management system it shows how to support a company s transformation by linking strategic management to companywide activities that furthers the corporate vision. Lean management is about operating the most efficient and effective organisation possible with least cost and zero waste (Thomas L. Jackson, 1996). Socrates And Achilles Socrates and Achilles: the Martyr Heroes Madelyn Vogel ILS 205 By comparing himself to the Greek hero Achilles before the jury in Plato s Apology, Socrates attempts to portray himself as a hero of equal merit to Achilles and others of similar standing. By selecting the greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates surreptitiously urges his audience to view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. This not only authenticates Socrates claims, but also exhibits his disconnect from earlier forms of thought. Essentially, Socrates attempts to display himself in the same light as his predecessor Achilles through their shared aspiration to do what they deem to be right in addition to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the battle of Troy, Achilles chooses almost certain death in exchange for the honor of avenging Patroclus. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My son, if you avenge the death of your friend Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for straightway, after Hector, is death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is relatively loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on private affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss in the form of his beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates represents the Greek hero as being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining honor and justice for both himself and his peers. Through this specific example, Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is both willing and able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for comparing himself to Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the jury of his Achillean heroism. One attribute of a hero according to the events of the Iliad is that one must either kill or be killed in the pursuit of honor. Correspondingly, the Iliad chronicles Achilles life and death on the natural path to heroism. Despite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept of parole dates back to the establishment of the Elmira Reformatory. The goal of the Elmira Reformatory was to rehabilitate and reform the criminal instead of following the traditional method of silence, obedience, and labor. Parole was originally set up to encourage prisoners to do well, keep their noses clean, and become model prisoners. Once a prisoner had shown rehabilitation and reform they were released prior to the execution of their full sentence. Before a prisoner can be released on parole he/she must meet before a parole board. Each prison with a parole system is set up with one of two types of parole services. ... Before an inmate comes before the parole board there are procedures that must happen. The first thing that happens is the inmate s name will appear on a computer generated list. The victims will be notified of the possible parole. The list of names is sent to the Transitional Planning Department. At the TPD a case manager will be assigned to interview the inmate and find out his/her plan for parole. This plan is filed and is sent to the parole board. The parole board then interviews the inmate and will vote on the case. If parole is granted the prison officials will prepare the inmate for release. However if parole is denied the inmate will be given a conditional release date which is usually within one to three years where the process will start all over. In order to determine whether or not the inmate is suitable for parole the board will review his/her record. Racism And The Gay Community In a time when countless citizens of the United State were homophobic, how were Blackmun and Stevens, both of which were thought to be conservatives, open to the claims of the gay community? My answer to this question before I read a single word assigned, was easy they must have known someone who was gay. I believe it is simple to be against something that you don t understand anything about. It is pompous to say that homosexuals are immoral, perverted, disgusting sinners when you have never knowingly interacted with a homosexual.
