Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business...
Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of
managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective
control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and
accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a
company use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a
firm s budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light,
practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in
terms of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract
immense criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is,
therefore, essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid
method that should be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting
Traditional budgeting model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond
the contemporary practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates
back to the onset of 1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to
control costs and the cash flows of a firm. Horvath and Sauter (2004) define the model as a

Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable...
ABSTRACT
Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major
advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for
quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure,
pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually
extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is
subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The
problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for
clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this
method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements
representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the
clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster
representation.

The Lemon Tree Summary
The Lemon Tree explores the Israeli Palestinian conflict, beginning in 1917 with the Balfor
Declaration and British rule in Palestine through 2005, shortly before the book was published. It
considers both the international conflicts and the personal conflicts, specifically from the point of
view of an Arab, Bashir, and a Jew, Dalia who lived through the struggle. In doing so, Tolan
typically discusses the important events multiple times from multiple perspectives in order to give
readers a full picture. Specifically, some major events explored include the Great Arab Rebellion,
the Israeli War for Independence or Nakba, international events, the Six Day War, and both
intifadas. Tolan explains both their personal effects for Bashir and Dalia and their national, and
sometimes international, effects in the wider world.
IIIAnalytical Summary How can the residents of an area that has been in turmoil for the past
century ever move past the unforgivable actions of the others? While Tolan does not offer a
solution for the area currently known as Israel Palestine, he is attempting to increase his audience s
understanding of the events contributing to the complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Tolan ends the book, Dalia supports a two state solution, with boarders similar to before
the Six Day War. Bashir, on the other hand, believes strongly in the right of return, saying that all
Palestinian people had the right to return to their homes from before the Nakba (261). His many
times in jail and in exile in Lebanon did not change this from even their first discussion about it.
No matter what violence happened, as far as readers are aware, they never come to a conclusion
despite their deep friendship. This mirrors the greater world s struggle, seen at the Oslo Accords
and the Camp David Accords (224 239). Key pieces of land or principles like the right of return

were near the buoys, and there had been a moment when we were all together simply laughing
and having fun. After a while of swimming and being silly, the sea separated us. The waves grew
bigger and violent. The riptide dragged me farther away from my cousins. For what seemed like
forever I twirled around in the sea, having a few seconds where I was able to catch my breath and
being pulled down under the salty water again. I felt like a sock inside a washing machine going

Irony In Law Enforcement
Ride Along On November 3, 2015, from 6 pm 3 am, I conducted my ride along with Grand
Island Police Department. I Rode with Police Officer Justin Roehrich #436. Officer Roehrich is
23 years old, a Grand Island native who graduated from Northwest High school. The irony in this
is I actually tested for GIPD with Roercih and another Officer Rodriguez back in 2013. Officer
Roehrich has been with the GIPD about 2 years, he has also been on the road for a year now.
After conducting the ride along, I can say that a good part of the text is similar in its depiction of
law enforcement. At this time, I cannot come up with any differences from the text to real world.

It started with both of us witnessing a dark colored late model Mustang, traveling at excessive
speed down Wheeler Ave. In fact my exact words were, Oh look at that dipshit! After confirming
radar of what we had both seen, lights and siren were activated. The suspect vehicle pulled over
a block later on one of the side streets. At first this would have seemed routine, but that change
every few minutes. The driver did not have a valid license, or proof of ownership, he did not
have insurance. Another officer responded shortly and began speaking to the passenger of the
vehicle. Both Officers were convinced something was off about the individuals. They had to run

after they decided to detain and arrest the driver, an inventory search yielded a firearm in the
trunk of the vehicle. The driver was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited
person 28 1206, defaced firearm 28 1207, and possession of a short shotgun 28 1203. At that time a

Coke Zero : Do real men drink diet coke ?
Case Analysis

years ago, Coke executives set out to change the by introducing Diet Coke and Diet Coke Plus, and

Pepsi Max was introduced in 1993 in international markets and in the U.S. in 2007.
Despite the accolades, Coke Zero stumbled out of the gate. Big success came only after Coca Cola
adjusted on the fly.
The drink was initially marketed with a tagline of everybody chill a vague emotional message that
didn t work. Consumers were left confused about what the brand meant. The Coke Zero brand
team had studied beer ads for clues to appealing to young adult men, but the team hadn t clearly
explained Coke Zero s reason for being in the market.
The company sought to boil down Coke Zero s intrinsic value with a message that it delivered real
Coke taste, zero calories. Five years on, the marketing pitch remains the same.
Coke Zero was initially sold in white cans and bottles. In the feedback from consumers, Coca Cola
researchers noticed a problem. The white packaging connoted diet drinks, and among the coveted
young male demographic, diet connoted female. The company quickly borrowed an idea from its
Australian division and swathed Coke Zero in black. Within six months, the new marketing and
packaging were in place, and the brand took off.
In 2009, a year in which overall soda sales shrank by about 2 percent, Coke Zero sales jumped 20
percent in the U.S., from 97 million cases to 116 million,

A Deep Space Hassam Analysis
As for the use of space, Hassam creates the illusion that there is three dimensional space in this
work. By making the buildings, trees, and people all appear to grow smaller in the background
creates the illusion of a deep space, which in turn allows the painting to feel more realistic. The
artist makes all of the objects that are closer up (or larger), to remain the focus because the
farther away the other objects appear, the more they become blurred and indecipherable . Often
times, this is how our eyes perceive things in reality as well, so this illusion successfully gives the
work a more natural, three dimensional feel. Another element used in this work that really stands
out to the viewer would most likely be color. The use of color

Darwinian Snail Lab Report
Darwinian Snails: Introduction In this experiment, we studied the manipulated effects of
evolution by natural selection within a population of snails along the Rocky Coastline. The
simulation of this lab is based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the
shell shape and thickness of the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He
saw that the shells had changed drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high
spiraled with thin walls. Compared to the shells found after 1884 were low spiraled with thick
walls. After doing some research, Seeley found that an intertidal crab, Carcinus maenas, had sought
after the snails for food.(Seeley) It was found that the shell size had changed due to the harmful...

It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but
when does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so
they won t be eaten by the crabs. In our experiment (McRae; Snails), we were asked to see how the
snails evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of
the population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still
evolve if all the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation
occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to
adapt to the new conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the
offspring would not be identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw
a more variety in the population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of
target and getting eaten more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to
choose which snails I wanted to eat, being as I was the crab. I went for the ones that were easier to

Transgender Identity
Transgenders have been a part of the LGBT community ever since continuously growing in
representation most especially mainstream culture. Popular transgender people such as Laverne
Cox and Caitlin Jenner are cultural representatives of this group. Filipino society has also
experienced an emergence of LGBT and gendernon conformity. As reported by the United States
Agency of International Development (USAID), reference was made to transvestism and crossing
gender in the 16th and 17th century with the babaylan (Tan 8). Even if modern Filipino society
tolerates trans personalities such as congresswoman Geraldine Roman, and Jake Zyrus, a trans male
singer formerly known as Charice, there has yet to be true justice and respect for the trans
community in even the smallest of circumstances.
A transgender as defined by Cambridge Dictionary is, someone who feels that they are not the
same gender (= sex) as the physical body they were born with, or who does not fit easily into
being either a male or a female. Given their gender identity differing from their sex assigned at
birth, a lot of the behavioral aspects in their lifestyle coordinate with the gender they identify
with. A specific aspect of this would be the restroom that these trans people use, that being the
opposite gender to what sex they were born as, or in short the gender of which they identify with.
However, it is not as easy as simply entering the comfort room, in fact the rest room to this day still

Barometer Rising
Much literature is based on the theme of a Quest, a search for something that seems ultimately
desirable. There are quests for power, quests for identity, quests for self respect, quests for
happiness, quests for understanding and quests for independence. All of these quests are present in
the novel, Barometer Rising. There are four main characters that experience life quests in this novel.
These characters include Colonel Geoffery Wain, Neil Macrae, Angus Murray, Roddie Wain and
Penny Wain. Throughout the novel these characters all experience different quests with very
different outcomes. The first evident quest arouse in the novel is a quest for power. This quest is

Mamie, a bartender says, Forget it, you don t owe me anything. Hell, you were too drunk to run
up any bill tonight. When Angus is at Penny s house near the beginning of the story, Penny s aunt
recognizes him not because she actually knows him, but by his reputation. That man, that Major
Murray everyone knows about. She describes him as, Angus Murray! That man who used to ruin
his practice with drink wherever he went! Despite his reputation, Angus has had many challenges
to deal with in life, which clearly led to his drinking and failures. One of the main challenges he
has been presented with is an arm injury, which is what prevented him from doing his work as a
doctor. At the beginning of the novel the readers see that Angus has no desire to change his way of
life, and that he has settled with his unhappiness but inside Angus is searching for reason. After the
Halifax explosion we see the outcome of Murray s unconscious life quest for happiness. He rises
to the needs of the injured people and even does a very precise surgery on Penny Wain s eye.
Angus overcomes his self doubt and pity and realizes that he has real potential, his confidence in
himself and quest for happiness is fulfilled when realizing he is capable of helping the people after
the explosion. Roddie Wain, Penny s little brother, presents a small but important quest as well.

Nutrition and Its Effects on Criminality
The criminal justice system in the United States focuses its efforts on issues such as over crowding
in prisons, police brutality, hot spots, and the like. Although these are all very important, the most
important could be considered; where the issue of criminality could be coming from. The focus
here is the link between nutritionand criminality. The importance of good nutrition will be
reviewed as well as the criminality linked to poor nutrition. Research has found the importance
of a good balanced diet makes a big difference in the way that a person s brain functions. Lack of
education on nutrition in low socioeconomic areas can be to blame in this aspect, as well as a
lack of funds available to the families in these regions. This research will explore the importance of
good nutrition, the link between it and criminality as well as supporting research in this area.
Introduction
In the United States, good nutrition has taken a back seat to convenient, low cost, prepackaged,
and processed foods. We all have had our fill of macaroni and cheese as children, but how did
that cheap and easy meal shape our general outcome as adults? What did that box of cheesy
goodness really contain? Our society has gone into an epidemic when dinner is considered, a
good meal as it comes out of a paper sack. Eating this way changes the way we eat, think, react,
and live. This is displayed in a change in the physiology of our brain. Our intake of food affects the
brain chemistry and

Eyewitness Testimony Experiment
The aim of this experiment is to investigate the effect of leading questions on eyewitness testimony
when asked to estimate the speed that a car is travelling in an accident. Participants were asked two
questions in total. The first question was regarding the speed of the car with contrasting verbs
(crashed/collided), the second questionasked was whether there was any glass at the scene of the
accident.
The hypothesis predicted that changing the language used in eyewitness testimony will affect
memory. The DV was the participants estimated speed of the vehicles, and the IV was the noun that
was changed in the leading question (crashed/collided). The independent measures design was
chosen, and an opportunity sample of 13 participants (N=13) were used. ... Show more content on

Once the video had finished, participants were asked two questions. Participants in condition one
were asked how fast they thought the cars were going when they crashed, and condition two were
asked how fast they thought the cars were going when they collided. Both conditions were then
asked if there was any glass at the scene of the accident. When the experiment was finished,
participants were debriefed and reminded that they had the right to withdraw their answers if they
wished to do so.
Throughout this IA, there will be a lot of mention of eyewitness testimony, memory and leading
questions. Eyewitness testimony can be defined as an account given by people of an event they
have witnessed [1] . Memory is the mental faculty that enables one to retain and recall previously
experienced sensations, impressions, information, and ideas [2] , and leading questions are
questions which are asked in such a way to suggest the answer, or one that contains the information

Zara positioned its brand on the fashion conscious market and offered fresh assortments of
designer style clothes and accessories with relatively low prices. Zara had a cost advantage over
other competitors due to its low advertising costs. Zara spent only 0.3% of revenue on the media
advertising, compared with other retailers. Zara promoted its brand by offering rapid changing
product lines and creating customers positive word of mouth that resulted. In addition, to target
at the ages between 18 and 34 with middle to middle high income, Zara mainly relied on its
attractive stores which located in highly visible locations to project its image. Zara s frequent
refurbishing of store, creative window display and varied staff uniforms also allowed Zara to
position its image in the elegant, high end and fashion driven market. However, Zara implemented
a different positioning strategy for Zara overseas. In contrast to Spain, where all of Zara s stores
were company owned, Zara used three different methods to enter into the international markets:
company owned stores for high profile countries, joint ventures for important countries where there
were barriers to direct entry, and franchises for small countries. This helped Zara reduce
operational risks and gained a detailed insight into local demand. Although pricing was market
based, prices in other countries were higher than in Spain, for example, 70% higher in Americas
and 100% higher in Japan. The higher retail prices

Why French Parents Are Superior By Pamela Duckerman
Parenting one of the most important and rewarding task for a human being according to almost
every person that has experienced the excitement and joy of having a child, I put in quotations the

Meal manners are really different in France, American toddlers simply don t know how wait,
Pamela considers that the key of French education is the simple act of learning how to wait
(Druckerman, 2012). For French parents is extremely important to let their children be happy with
their self, not depending on others attention (Druckerman, 2012), meanwhile American parents don
t consider this as a must learn task to the education of their children. Pamela mentions the
marshmallow test created by Walter Mischel where he tested the patience of four and five years
old, he placed a marshmallow on the table and leaved the toddlers unattended, they had the option
to eat the marshmallow right away or wait and get two, he found out that toddlers could only wait
30 seconds and only a few waited 15 minutes (Druckerman , 2012). Why is this relevant to
Druckerman s observation of French toddlers? Simply, because they know how to wait, they know
how to distract themselves, they would be part of the toddlers that waited the 15 full minutes
because they know how to wait (Druckerman ,

great amount of usefulness. Naps are generally advantageous for people because short naps can
help in school and work and long naps can help you remember things that you cannot, but long
naps do not improve alertness. To start, short naps help you recharge your body when you have a
lack of sleep. Short naps help you at work and school, because they increase mass production and
decrease lethargy. In Source #3, it says, Naps with lengths between 10 and 20 minutes have been

The Philadelphia Museum Of Art Museum
The Philadelphia Museum of Art was my first time to an art museum, and overall I think it was a
good experience. When I thought of an art museum, I thought it was going to be all paintings.
But as it turns out, that idea was wrong. There were lots of other forms of art there as well. The
exhibit that I enjoyed the most was the International Pop exhibit. But there were also many other
exhibits that I enjoyed as well. Some of those include; European, American, Arms and Armor. All
every interesting exhibits that everyone should see. But those are not all, when going to this
museum, every exhibit should be looked at, all have very interesting things in them. The
International pop exhibit was one of my favorite out of all the exhibits. The International Pop
navigates a fast paced world packed with bold and thought provoking imagery, revealing a
vibrant period shaped by social, political, and cultural changes . One piece of art that I found
interesting was Still Life by Tom Wesselmann, American, 1931 2004 . When looking at this piece
if reminds me of different time. This piece reminds me of other art works that I have seen with the
same kinds of things on it as well. Another work of art that I enjoyed was the 20th/21st Century
Tribute by AntГґnio Henrique Amaral , this painting makes the viewer actually stop and look at it.
There are many different parts to this painting too look at. When walking through the museum, this
was definitely something that catches ones eye.

Paragraph Outline Of Christianity
Across the globe, there are a wide assortment of religions used by people of varying countries.
This unique array of religions ranges anywhere from Christianity to Hinduism and even folk
religion. One of the most popular forms of religions practiced is Christianity with an overwhelming
majority of families in the U.S. believing this religion( The Global Religious Landscape 1). B.
Overview and Background:
In Christianity, with the admiration and acceptance of Christ, believers will follow anecdotes and
writings from the Bible to absorb wisdom from its positive and holy teachings. Christianity
introduces lessons to be learned, and if one reflects on these lessons, they may help a person in any
life scenario and ultimately make one into a better individual. II. Introduction Paragraph 2

With this, it is also recognized that not only is Christianity a religion interpreted as an individual
concept, but it can also help families understand and process together the essence and many
aspects of God. Cada quien en su casa y Dios en la de todos. God is within each household when
everyone is involved in their own lives and families.
Growing up in a religious household can benefit the family lifestyle by promoting a greater message

Analysis Of The Poem The Marjorie Liu And Sana Takeda
Without the illustrations, reading the Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda s graphic novel Monstress
would be a far less enriching experience. The fantastical universe created in this work would not
be as finely detailed or impactful if it were a traditional novel. The illustrations set the tone and
allow the reader s eye to focus on what is important, without the need to read a detailed description
of the universe. Sana Takeda s illustrations in Monstress enhance the story with the framing of the
panels, the color palette in the settings, and the detail of her art.
The framing of the illustrations enhances the reading experience in a variety of ways. The
arrangement of the panels lets the reader know exactly which characters, moments and ... Show

Another instance of this is in the battle scene in Chapter Three when Maika uses a unicorn horn
to kill one of the guards. On this page, four diagonal lines separate the page; one of which is not
parallel with the others This demonstrates Maika s rapid movement, and the skewed line shows
precisely how jarring her act of violence is. Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various
interesting ways. Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current
events in which they are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter
Six, the lines are both black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others.
Another innovative instance is in Chapter One when Maika attacks Sophia with a flamethrower. On
this page, the flames move over the borders into other panels, showing just how much the flames
are consuming.
With the color palettes used in the various settings, Takeda sets the tone for the scenes and allows
for better reader clarity. The first major setting in the novel is the city of Zamora, where inside the
Cumaean stronghold, jewel tones and gold are the most dominant (Chapter One). This shows the
reader the opulence and glamour the Cumaea experience, demonstrating their greed and power,
which the reader learns is due to both being born with some magical abilities and their use of
Lilium. This is in stark contrast to the green hues that Takeda uses to create the prison scenery.

The Structures And Functions Of Different Lipocalins
This paper mainly deals with a small family of proteins Lipocalins . The structures and functions of
different lipocalins have been widely discussed. The structural similarity, physiological functions,
synthesis, their number of amino acid residues, secondary structures of each lipocalin has been
widely analyzed throughout this paper.
Lipocalins are a family of proteins which contribute various physiological role in small molecules.
Lipocalins are found to take part in binding, storage or sequestration of many low molecular weight
compounds which shows poor solubility and easy decomposition, thereby stabilizing them and
playing an important role. In humans lipocalins are present as secretory proteins in blood, genital
secretions and tears.
About Lipocalins: Lipocalins are small monomeric proteins with 150 180 residues, having compact
fold with central eight ОІ strands. There are four loops which connect the ОІ strands and forms a
cup shaped cavity. Different lipocalins can accommodate different chemical ligands (lipids,
steroids, vitamins, cofactors etc.) of various shapes and sizes, depending on the length of the amino
acid sequence of the loops. The name Lipocalins were given to a group of proteins comprising of
the human О±1 acid glycoprotein, О±1 microglobulin, serum/plasma retinol binding protein, and
bovine ОІ lactoglobulin on the basis of sequence homologies, disulfide bonds, functional
similarities and their ability to bind with +complex lipophilic substances in

Annotated Bibliography On Nuclear Weapons
United States[edit]
Main articles: Nuclear weapons and the United States and United States and weapons of mass
destruction
The United States developed the first atomic weapons, during World War II in cooperation with the
United Kingdom and Canada as part of the Manhattan Project, out of the fear that Nazi Germany
would develop them first. It tested the first nuclear weapon in 1945 ( Trinity ), and remains the only
country to have used nuclear weapons against an enemy state in warfare, devastating the
Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was the first nation to develop the hydrogen
bomb, testing an experimental prototype in 1952 ( Ivy Mike ) and a deployable weapon in 1954
( Castle Bravo ). Throughout the Cold War it continued to modernize and enlarge its nuclear
arsenal, but from 1992 on has been involved primarily in a program of Stockpile
stewardship.[28][29][30] The U.S. nuclear arsenal contained 31,175 warheads at its Cold War...

The weapon was developed as a deterrent against both the United States and the Soviet Union.
Two years later, China had a fission bomb capable of being put onto a nuclear missile. It tested
its first hydrogen bomb ( Test No. 6 ) in 1967, a mere 32 months after testing its first nuclear
weapon (the shortest fission to fusion development known in history).[40] The country is currently
thought to have had a stockpile of around 240 warheads, though because of the limited
information available, estimates range from 100 to 400.[41][42][43] China is the only NPT
nuclear weapon state to give an unqualified negative security assurance due to its no first use
policy.[44][45] China signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty in 1992.[37] On February 25,

Local Government In Australia
Background of Australian Government In Australia s Early Childhood Education and Care
(ECEC), the Commonwealth has responsibility for social security while state governments have
primary responsibility for education (Press Hayes, 2000). Thus, policy and funding matters related
to different forms of ECEC services rest with different tiers of government (Press Hayes, 2000).
There is the local government, which is established and regulated by State and Territory parliaments
(Press Hayes, 2000). Australia has about 750 local government councils responsible for town
planning, roads, streets and bridges, waste and sanitation services and community recreation
facilities. Many, though not all, local governments in Australia are involved in... Show more content

During the 1940s and 1950s preschools, as they became known, began to emerge in middle
class suburbs and were often managed by local parents. During the 1960s and 1970s, some State
Governments became involved in the provision of preschool services. In both Victoria and New
South Wales preschool provision remained largely in the hands of voluntary agencies (Brennan,
1998). Although preschool provision and operation were widespread, preschools largely failed
to meet the needs of working mothers. A strong push for the provision of child care services to
support working women developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A feminist advocacy for
women s rights seek in paid employment and researches on the number of children left without
adequate supervision because of their parents need to work, and the needs of industry for access
to women s labour became a powerful impetus for governments to take child care provision
seriously (Press Hayes, 2000). As a result, the Commonwealth Minister for Labour and National
Service introduced the Child Care Act 1972, which commenced Commonwealth involvement in
the funding of child care programs beyond the Lady Gowrie Centres. From 1983 to 1990 child
care provision was regarded as part of the social wage under the Commonwealth Labor Government
where government provided benefits and services (Press Hayes, 2000). In 1990 the Commonwealth
Labor Government extended the

The Story Of Bread And Roses
The story of Bread and roses is another classic example of working class people being exploited
by the company and management whom they work for. After watching the movie, I realized that,
the movie itself exemplify various conceptual theories proposed by sociologist Karl Marx. After
analyzing Bread and Roses through these various conceptual lenses, I have found that these
concepts and theories proposed by Marx best explain different parts of Bread and Roses. His
production theory in Capitalism, The Exploitation of Surplus Value, and The Revolution of the
Proletarians. These chosen concepts and theories do not fully explain the movie by themselves,
but fit perfectly together in various parts throughout the movie. Before I can go on to explain
these concepts and how they tie into Bread and Roses, I feel that a brief summary of the movie
is necessary. Bread and Roses is a fictional story about the exploitation of janitor workers by the
cleaning company Angel. More specifically, the story revolves around Maya, a Mexican
immigrant. Maya, when the story begins, just had recently crossed the border into the United
States. Once Maya linked up with her sister Rosa, Rosa pulled some strings so Maya can work
as a janitor with her in a high rise building. While acclimating to her new job, she noticed the
poor treatment and lack of care given to her and fellow co workers such as low hourly wages
($5.75), no health care, and bad management by supervisor Perez .With the help from a union

In the story The Interlopers, Saki writes about
two families that have been feuding for generations. He writes about how interlopers
stop them from rivaling, and eventually bring the two of them to be friends
only minutes before they are eaten by wolves. He does this by using dramatic
irony. Through the character s words he tells us what the two will do when
they get back to town now that they are friends. This leads you to believe
that the feud is over and everything is all right. The author then, however,

What Are The Geographical Advantages Of Shanghai
Geographical Factors
Shanghai has inherited geographical advantages compared to other cities in China. shanghai is
located at the T shaped junction along the sea coast and the Changing River. (Zou et al. 2001)
The geographical advantages not only give Shanghai more opportunities to cooperate with foreign
investors, but also give Shanghai more chances to learn about advanced commercial ideas. The city,
therefore, become more international and opened.
Firstly, as a coastal city, Shanghai has attractive areas for economic development and residence due
to their productive natural resources. (Shi et al. 2001). The natural resources near the sea are one
of the most essential factors for a frim to minimize its cost and increase its production.
Secondly, because Shanghai is a coastal city, the method of sea shipping is especially convenient
for Shanghai s factories to import or export goods. Apart from the sea shipping transportation
method, Shanghai plays an important role that connects northern part of China and Southern part of
China. Therefore, both the number of railway lines and the flight lines are relatively larger than
other cities. Firms located in Shanghai are able to find advantages from the convenient
transportation. Moreover, being a bridge to connect the north and the south gives Shanghai more
opportunities to attract firms from all over China to invest in Shanghai.
Furthermore, thirdly, there are many relatively small cities around Shanghai, such as Suzhou,
Jiaxing and so on. Take an example of the relationship between Shanghai and Suzhou, Suzhou
was more developed than Shanghai in the past, however, the war named the Taiping Rebellion
(1851 1864) took over large areas of southern China (Meng 2006) and Suzhou was destroyed by
this war. Shanghai therefore, became the alternative city to develop. Furthermore, these relatively
small cities are not as developed as Shanghai, therefore, many people from these small cities feel
like finding a job in Shanghai due to the more job opportunities in Shanghai. These phenomena
discussed above has provided Shanghai more labor force. On the one hand, the cheap labor force
provided to Shanghai is able to reduce the rural surplus labor, which is also

The Horrendous Suffering Faced by Dave Pelzer
American author, Dave Pelzer, grew up in San Francisco with his mother, father, and brothers.
Dave s mother was not like a normal mother, Dave s mother, Catherine Pelzer, beat and neglected
Dave. Dave also had 4 brothers that lived with him and his parents: Richard, Ron, Stephen, and
Kevin. Dave s father lived with them, but was rarely home. While Catharine did not neglectDave s
brothers she did not deserve custody of Dave s brothers, because of her abusive ways towards Dave
(Pelzer).
Dave s mother, Catharine Pelzer, was the mother of Dave and his brothers and the wife to
Stephen. Catharine was an alcoholic, who was also mentally unstable, and who by no means
was in the position to care for children. Catharine neglected Dave to an extreme extent; many of
the things she did to Dave could have easily killed him (Pelzer). Dave was no longer considered a
child he was a slave, a child called it. Dave s brothers Richard, Ron, Stephen, and Kevin lived with
the family, but they were not treated the same way as Dave was treated. The brothers were
treated as any other kid should be treated, they would be able to eat with the family, play outside,
watch television, or do things other children would do. While their brother, Dave, was not allowed
to do any of these things. As Dave s brothers watched the abuse, they did nothing to stop it

The first assesses the degree to which repeated researches yield the same results; the second is
based on the stability of measurements over time while the third is based on the similarity of
measurements within a given period of time. On the other hand, Joppe (2000) suggested that a valid
research is one that truly measures what it was intended to measure. In other words, a valid research
is one that provides true results.
Quantitative research involves the use of experimental and quantitative measures to test general
hypotheses (Hoepfl, 1997). Golafshani (2003) suggested that quantitative research is based on the
measurement and the analysis of the causal relationship between variables. Through quantitative
research, the researcher is familiarized with the concept to be studied and generates the hypothesis
to be tested. As such, the mathematical process takes the norm for analyzing the numeric data and
the information gathered takes a numeric form that can be quantified and summarized. Moreover,
according to Charles (1995), the final result of the quantitative research is usually expressed in
statistical terminologies. Another aspect of quantitative research, as seen from Golafshani (2003),
is that it emphasizes on the facts and causal. Therefore, a qualitative researcher should construct an
instrument, standardize it and administer it according to predetermined procedures. However, the
concern, according to Golafshani (2003), is on its

Descriminalization Of Women In The Beauty Industry
Women in the interwar years did not experience greater freedoms in terms of their physical
appearance because they remain restricted by societal notions of femininity. The new women
physical appearance was created by society for their own benefits. The new women wear makeup
and dress less, drink and smoke. The beauty industry first started as a woman only business and
expanded but later on became male dominated. Cosmetic makeup was first thought of as a less
respectable beauty product because during those time the only prostitute wears it. It was seen and
associated with seduction. Since women such as Elizabeth Aiden, Helena Rubensein who focus on

Adolf Hitler and Francisco Franco were both authoritarian dictators who had extremely similar
goals for their country. While their ideas and desires were relatively the same, their rise to power
and their consolidation of said power have significant and notable differences. While Franco went
on to rule Spain until his death in 1975, both dictators had been in power at the same time, and
with their similar ideas had formed a cordial relationship. Hitler and Franco both wanted the same

fact that they both encouraged anti communist ideas. These ideas

David Hume s Empiricism

Every philosopher begins with the premises from which he bases his entire philosophical theory.
Descartes rejects all the premises and holds innate into question. He withholds all the assumptions
and only believes in things that can be proven. His goal in subjecting everything to methodical
doubt is you don t know it is true until you have the proof. Descartes begins by doubting his own
existence and starts with the premise, I think I am therefore I am . He is not sure whether he exists
or not but the fact that he is thinking is the proof that his mind exists. Descartes is Mind Body

Simple ideas are copy of a single direct experience/ impression for example, idea of Mount
Everest. Complex ideas are combination of two or more copies of impressions/ experiences for
example, idea of a golden mountain. You have an idea of gold color and you have an idea about
mountain thus even though nobody has seen a golden mountain but you can have idea about a
golden mountain. According to Hume, you only know what your experience will allow you to
know. You cannot know more than what you can experience; knowledge is dependent and
derivative of experience. He says God is complex idea we don t have any proof about God s
existence or inexistence. This point of view of David Hume is completely different to Descartes
who believes in God s existence. According to David Hume, if we have idea of infinity that means
we must have impression of infinite but we cannot touch or feel infinity thus infinity is not a

according to Hume, concept of infinity doesn t exist. It is just pseudo idea that we have given name
which has no relation to anything actual.

about. All the object of human reason or inquiry may naturally be divided into two kinds, relation
of ideas and matters of fact. David Hume uses the term Matters of fact is the kind of thing

Literary Devices In Those Winter Sundays
Relationships between children and their parents can be complex. Often, once the child grows
up, they begin to have a greater understanding and are able to reflect on those relationships. In the
poem, Those Winter Sundays, Robert Hayden writes of a son looking back on his relationship
with his father and it s complexity. Their intricate relationship comes from the son feeling guilt
about how unaware he was of everything his father did and how blinded he was by his childish
judgments. Using details to look back on childhood, sound devices to show a masked feeling and
repetition of the word cold to elaborate on the emotional distance the father shows, the speaker

This begins with the first cold (Hayden 2) depicting a father constantly trying to do what s right for
his family and having to deal with a son who s unappreciative and constantly giving him the cold

In the second stanza the word cold is compiled with onomatopoeia so the reader can almost hear
the sound of coldness, hear the cold splintering, breaking (Hayden 6). This signifies the son
chipping away at the ice before him and seeing past his father s rough exterior to every small
sacrifice he has done for his family. To end everything the use of the word cold (Hayden 11)
symbolizes him breaking through and driving out every piece of hostile ice blocking the view
of his true father. Once removed, he saw a man who worked hard every single day did everything
he knew how to for his family and his son. Reflecting, he asks What did I know, what did I know

father for everything because what did he know of the love of a father to his

The Gift Of The Magi Short Story Analysis
Throughout our lives there are things and people that each of us hold dear to our hearts. Things
and people we love and treasure above all, but sometimes we let the pressures from society dictate
to us what the standards of a happy life is, and we forget what is really important. In the story The
Gift of the Magi, O. Henry reminds us the nature of true wealth, true generosity , and true love. In
The Giftof the Magi we meet Della and Jim Young, a husband and wife that make sacrifices to
buy each other a Christmas gift. The story takes place at the turn of the century in a New York
City apartment, and deals with many themes such as love, poverty, and sacrifice. It is one of
over 600 short stories Henry wrote in his lifetime, and was first published in a New York
newspaper in 1905. Henry started writing short stories while in prison for embezzlement as a
way to support his daughter. Ironically, the story does not seem to reflect Henry s luck with
love and relationships. After years of fighting alcoholism, mental illness, and financial problems,

Women Entrepreneurs And Social Incubators Essay
In this chapter literature on women entrepreneurs and social incubators is discussed. It also
explains the conceptual framework and conceptual map of the study..
2.1 Concept of Women Entrepreneur
Women or a group of women who initiate, organize and operates a business enterprise is defined as
Women Entrepreneurs . The Government of India has defined women entrepreneurs as an
enterprise owned and controlled by women having a minimum financial interest of 51 per cent of
the capital and giving at least 51 per cent of the employment generated in the enterprise to women.
Women Entrepreneur is a person who accepts challenging role to meet her personal needs and
become economically independent (Meenu Goyal and Jai Prakash, 2011, pp. ). In India, these
entrepreneurs are part of the larger sustainable development strategy employed by the
policymakers. Evidence shows that Women entrepreneurship has already contributed to the
economic growth across the world and women led enterprises are increasing in every country..
These enterprises also created a large number of job opportunities in their respective economies.
Apart from this, these enterprises also created new business solutions for the pressing social
problems.Further in whole enterprises scenario, number of enterprises owned by women is very
less compared to men. Government of India has implemented various schemes for development of
such enterprises but impact is yet to be seen. Over the past few decades role of

Madonna Of The Goldfinch Essay
1. Composition is the organization, or arrangement, of forms in a work of art. When art
historians analyze composition, they focus on the overall arrangement and organizing design or
structure of a work of art. Madonna of the Goldfinch is a painting by Raphael. The three figures,
the Madonna and her two boys, are arranged in a triangular shape at the center of the painting.
The artist emphasized this by opening the clouds to show a patch of blue in the middle of the sky,
and by situating delicate trees around the figural group. This is a bilaterally symmetrical
composition, because the Madonna is at the center of the painting while the two boys are divided
between the two sides of the triangular shape approximately equidistant from the painting s center.
On either side of an implied vertical line at the center of the painting, known as an axis, there are
equivalent forms on the left and right which are balanced and complimented in a... Show more

The aspect of the case study of Rogier van der Weyden s Philadelphia Crucifixion that was
especially interesting to me was the cultural context. I found this to be the most interesting
because, to me, the cultural context is what gives immense meaning to a work of art. By
knowing an artist s intended audience, an artist s goals, the context of the time and place a work
was created, and the background and experiences of the artist, works of art are given much deeper
meaning. This painting is not simply a painting depicting the pain those closest to Jesus suffered as
a result of his crucifixion; rather, this painting is associated with extremely important moments in
the life of the artist, such as his religious pilgrimage to Rome in 1450 and the initiation of his
eldest son as a Carthusian monk at around the same time. The artist, whether this panel painting
had been created as a donation to the chapel of St. Catherine at Herrines or not, shows how the
artist truly embraced his personal experiences and used art to express his

General Business Liability Insurance
Imagine what would happen if someone would trip over a display and break a leg while inside
your grocery store. Also think what could happen if the heating system your workers installed in
someone s house quit working on the coldest day of winter, or if a major fire would burn a large
portion the clothing in your sporting goods store . You would be protected in each of the
incidents, from possible lawsuits, and the damages you might incur from a disaster, if your small

This is because the risk of a building contractor being responsible for someone being injured is
greater, and when this happens, damages are typically more. As an example, medical costs for
an injury might be $200,000 to $300,000, and legal fees could total more than $100,000. If your
coverage is for only $300,000, you might owe from $50,000 to $100,000 out of pocket. This is
why someone with a higher risk of owing expensive damages who has business liability
insurance might want to also add umbrella coverage or excess insurance, while a web designer
might not need as much insurance. Business liability insurance also protects you against other
types of clams against your company: Copyright infringement. Someone can owe from $200 to
$150,000 for each work infringed. Advertising injures. This could include damages caused by
slander, libel, and invasion of privacy. Reputation damages. In this type of claim, someone might
sue you, claiming his or her character was damaged and you defamed his character. You could be
responsible for compensatory damages, punitive damages and assumed damages, or damages a
plaintive is assumed to have suffered if his reputation has been damaged, or if he has experienced

Religions Around the World
Numerous people, all around the world, participate in at least one kind of religion which has a
great chance that monasticism is a possible piece that makes up the religion. These religions
vary from place to place and from person to person. Like religion itself, monasticism varies from
religion to religion and from place to place. The variation that often occurs in the monastic aspect
of the religion is in the small aspects of the monastic life instead of a large overall difference.
Small aspects include things such as the part that monasticism plays can range from small with very
few men to large with many men taking vows and becoming monks. This weighs more heavily than
an overall difference would in monasticism. An example of two religions monastic piece being
different because of small aspects is Tibetan Buddhist and Roman Catholics. Although monasticism
is a part of both Tibetan Buddhismand Roman Catholicism, certain aspects are different between
the two religions. One of the ways that Tibetan monks and Roman Catholic monks vary is their
origins. Buddhism was introduced in the seventeenth century to Tibetfrom the places of China,
India, and Central Asia. Tibetan Buddhists see themselves as an inheritance from Indian Buddhists,
who were the main influence in the beginnings of the spread of Buddhism in Tibet. The school of
Buddhism popular in China, India, and Central Asia is the school of Mahayana, which deals
heavily with agricultural trade for their work. This

Climate Change And The Environment
By 2050 the population of the world is expected to be 9.3 billion people. As the population of the
world continues to grow so will the demand for resources. Resources such as land for agriculture,
fresh water, and the most important fossil fuels are becoming scare. In order for the resources
that we still have available to last, we as a society have to change the way we are using the
resources. Not only do we have to make the resources last for future generations, but we also need
to learn how to become less dependent on the resources since they are causing great harm to the
environment. In order to slow the pace of climate change, we as a society have to change how we
do things in order to confront climate change.

Leonardo DiCaprio. The well known actor is taking the advantage of the fact that he is a public

something to change the fate of the world. Many actors and actresses are not as open with their
political views and only express their views when it has become a problem. Had they expressed
their views sooner than we could have prevented some of the problem. There are many different
ways that we as a society could slow down the pace of climate change. One of the different ways is
carpooling to and from work with co workers. This is an easy solution to the increasing use of
fossil fuel. Average workers travels 39 miles to work, and when gas is $3.00 per gallon the average
household is paying $5.32 each day for gas alone. (Carpooling benefits) $5.32 may not seem like a

Toddlers In Tiaras Rhetorical Analysis
In the article, Toddlers in Tiaras by Skip Hollandsworth, the author s main focus is to make the
audience aware of the dangers involved in child pageantry, and how it can negatively impact the
children who participate. People who enter their kids in these events don t think to consider the
consequences that result from pageantlifestyle. By incorporating strategies of ethos, pathos, and
logos, he is able to make an effective point of argument to persuade the audience. Hollandsworth
makes himself credible by using intelligence, to contact professional people with experience about
his topic, as resources. CBS Evening News anchors Dan Rather compared the video footage of

A small 2005 study, published in Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment Prevention, that
involved 22 women, half of whom had participated in child beauty pageants, concluded that there
were no significant differences between the two groups on measures of bulimia, body
perception, depression, and self esteem. But it did find that the former pageant girls scored
significantly higher on body dissatisfaction, interpersonal distrust, and impulse dysregulation
(Hollandsworth 7). With this statistic, readers can see the negative effects on a smaller scale
which enables them to understand and agree with what Hollandsworth is saying. The promise
of a tiara has always been a fast, easy sell to young girls who pine to be princesses just ask

encourages little girls by giving them an unrealistic dream in order for them to join pageants. The
facts that he uses are based on the idea that pageants are allowing companies to sexualize children
by offering them things that are unnecessary for their age. Now,

Privacy In Workplace
Telephone Usage (Lauren Sanders)
Telephone usage is a part of the technology that can affect the privacy in the workplace. The call
feature on telephones can cause privacy issues. Although it is illegal for anyone to listen or record
regular phone calls, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act excludes commonplace business
calls (Maltby, 2013). This means the employer can record or listen phone calls made about
business. Sometimes employers make employees sign forms to consent to phone calls being
monitored. Another exception to this act is if the employee has consented to be monitored (Mika,
2012).
There are limits to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Maltby, 2013). A business is
supposed to stop listening and hang up when the phone call becomes personal (Maltby, 2013). This
cannot be monitored to know if the business is actually following this protocol. Also, the courts
rule mainly in the favor of the employer with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Mika,
2012). Privacy issues with phones do not just stop with calls.
Another issue surrounding privacy and phone usage deals with devices given to employer.
Sometimes employers give employees devices to use for the business. These devices may be able
to do a variety of different functions. Often times these devices can do more than the ... Show more

Antisocial Personality Disorder And Incarcerated Individuals
Antisocial Personality Disorder and Incarcerated Individuals
Long term patterns of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others are qualities that
are often related to criminal behavior. This is a mental condition that is defined as Antisocial
Personality Disorder by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Antisocial Personality Disorder, or
otherwise known as ASPD, is a disorder that fits into two essential categories: psychopathy and
sociopathy. ASPD can be caused by many deformations within the brain, these deformations can be
caused by a number of outside influences including child abuse and parental neglect. With this in
mind, psychopathy and sociopathy are two different forms of this very severe mental disorder. Not

Those who suffer from this also have many other issues as well. The disorder is associated with
significant psychosocial impairment, depression, substance misuse, and domestic violence; suicide
is an all too common outcome (Black, 114). Those who suffer from ASPD are commonly
considered societies rule breakers. Children who lie, steal, and bully others, as well as adults who
abuse their partners or children, sometimes ending up with criminal charges. The personality traits
of those with ASPD can vary from one person to another, but the brain chemistry of ASPD is
similar throughout all the patients. When the PCL R is used as a screening tool, it was possible to
find that psychopaths have reduced gray matter in their frontal lobes, increased striatal volume,
abnormal asymmetry in the hippocampus, a larger corpus callosum, a lack of structural integrity in
the uncinate fasciculus, abnormal activity in the anterior cingulate cortex, and deformations within
the amygdala (Pemment, 2). Gray matter in the frontal lobe of the brain controls your decision
making, and thought processing. Psychopaths have a reduced amount of gray matter that makes
them less able to evaluate possible rewards and consequences. Introspection is also dependent on
how much gray matter you have, the more gray matter, the more introspective you are, thus
allowing you to be more self aware of your thinking. Keeping in

Argumentative Analysis
Video games impact the brain in a wide variety of ways. Some people could, and have, made the
argument that video games are destructive for children and that they become a distraction from
actual educational work (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). On the other
hand, one could certainly argue that video games could be a valuable tool in the learning
environment (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). At any rate, there are
several different, and accurate views on the subject.
The initial argument I mentioned about video games is probably the one you hear about most
often. How many times have you heard a set of parents say that their child is rotting away in front
of a video game. Well, there is actually some truth to that. Children who show addictive behavior in
regards to video games have also shown symptoms that are typical in addicts of other sorts
(Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). Some domains that are affected by this
type of behavior include behavioral, social, academic, occupational, and developmental (Bavelier,
Green, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also many studies that show how video games increase peripheral perception,
processing speed, and memory (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011).
Also, depending on the type of video game a particular person is playing, it can be used as an
effective training scenario(Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). The idea
here is that video games can be used as a productive tool for people of all ages, professions, and
lifestyles, if they are utilized correctly (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011).
An issue that may come up is trying to find the happy area in the middle of the people who don t
use games at all and the ones that are using them excessively and becoming

The Price Of Persecution By Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye
The Price of Persecution
The plight of the weak against the powerful is one of the oldest and compelling stories that can
be told, and it has always been the story of race in the United States. Toni Morrison s The Bluest
Eye is a candid look into the lives of African Americans in the early 1940 s, focusing on the
drama surrounding the coming of age of young girls. The debilitating effects of racism, sexism,
and classism on children and adults of different social statuses are explored through the stories of a
number of families. By illustrating a society in which each class elevates itself by oppressing those
below them, Morrison demonstrates how the cyclical nature of oppression can cripple a community
and family for generations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her son, forbidden from befriending children deemed too black and uncultured, initially longed
for a connection with the boys whose hardness... and wild blackness (87) he admires. However, he
eventually internalizes the message that the shade of his skin renders him superior to his peers and
he decides to avoid contact with them. Geraldine s obsession with pedantic distinctions between
different groups of black residents in Lorain leads her son and the whole next generation to
preserve the biases of their parents. The maltreatment practiced by those of mixed race has a real
impact on those they perceive as inferior. Maureen Peal is a wealthy mixed race girl that moves
to Pecola s school. She enters Pecola s narrative by holding some boys intent on harrassing
Pecola at bay and starts a friendly conversation with her. Soon after, she turns on Pecola and
feeling her image being threatened yells I am cute! And you ugly! Black and ugly black e mos.
I am cute! (73). Pecola, who had idolized Maureen for her cute looks and popularity, is
devastated. The repetition in Maureen s declaration mirrors the constancy of society s message
to young black girls like Pecola: she is not valuable, and it is because of her race. Maureen, as a
person of mixed race, is hardly the model most white children would aspire to. She possesses only
an increment of superiority over girls like Pecola, but that slight advantage allows her to show

  • 2. Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business... Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a company use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a firm s budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light, practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in terms of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract immense criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is, therefore, essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid method that should be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting Traditional budgeting model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond the contemporary practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates back to the onset of 1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to control costs and the cash flows of a firm. Horvath and Sauter (2004) define the model as a quantitative expression of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable... ABSTRACT Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure, pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster representation. keywords : Segmentation, Clustering, Adaptive K means, digital image processing. INTRODUCTION Diagnostic imaging is an invaluable tool in medicine today. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography, Digital Mammography, and other imaging modalities provide effective means for non invasively mapping the an atomy of a subject. These technologies have greatly increased knowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Lemon Tree Summary The Lemon Tree explores the Israeli Palestinian conflict, beginning in 1917 with the Balfor Declaration and British rule in Palestine through 2005, shortly before the book was published. It considers both the international conflicts and the personal conflicts, specifically from the point of view of an Arab, Bashir, and a Jew, Dalia who lived through the struggle. In doing so, Tolan typically discusses the important events multiple times from multiple perspectives in order to give readers a full picture. Specifically, some major events explored include the Great Arab Rebellion, the Israeli War for Independence or Nakba, international events, the Six Day War, and both intifadas. Tolan explains both their personal effects for Bashir and Dalia and their national, and sometimes international, effects in the wider world. IIIAnalytical Summary How can the residents of an area that has been in turmoil for the past century ever move past the unforgivable actions of the others? While Tolan does not offer a solution for the area currently known as Israel Palestine, he is attempting to increase his audience s understanding of the events contributing to the complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Tolan ends the book, Dalia supports a two state solution, with boarders similar to before the Six Day War. Bashir, on the other hand, believes strongly in the right of return, saying that all Palestinian people had the right to return to their homes from before the Nakba (261). His many times in jail and in exile in Lebanon did not change this from even their first discussion about it. No matter what violence happened, as far as readers are aware, they never come to a conclusion despite their deep friendship. This mirrors the greater world s struggle, seen at the Oslo Accords and the Camp David Accords (224 239). Key pieces of land or principles like the right of return make compromise seemingly ... • 5. My Hero s Life-Personal Narrative underneath the sun. There was even a lifeguard in her red bathing suit sitting in a watching tower. I was not alone. I was not even far enough away for concern, yet I was dying. My cousins were near the buoys, and there had been a moment when we were all together simply laughing and having fun. After a while of swimming and being silly, the sea separated us. The waves grew bigger and violent. The riptide dragged me farther away from my cousins. For what seemed like forever I twirled around in the sea, having a few seconds where I was able to catch my breath and being pulled down under the salty water again. I felt like a sock inside a washing machine going full circle. At one time, the tide was so high and violent that when it plunged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Officer Roehrich is 23 years old, a Grand Island native who graduated from Northwest High school. The irony in this is I actually tested for GIPD with Roercih and another Officer Rodriguez back in 2013. Officer Roehrich has been with the GIPD about 2 years, he has also been on the road for a year now. After conducting the ride along, I can say that a good part of the text is similar in its depiction of law enforcement. At this time, I cannot come up with any differences from the text to real world. Except it does talk about all the political debauchery that goes along with this... At first this would have seemed routine, but that change every few minutes. The driver did not have a valid license, or proof of ownership, he did not have insurance. Another officer responded shortly and began speaking to the passenger of the vehicle. Both Officers were convinced something was off about the individuals. They had to run the drivers name multiply times in multiple states to no avail. Come to finds out he wasn t giving them his full name, after the proper name was used to search it came back the driver was a convicted felon. The passenger had nothing on record so they released him on his own. But after they decided to detain and arrest the driver, an inventory search yielded a firearm in the trunk of the vehicle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pepsi Max was introduced in 1993 in international markets and in the U.S. in 2007. Despite the accolades, Coke Zero stumbled out of the gate. Big success came only after Coca Cola adjusted on the fly. The drink was initially marketed with a tagline of everybody chill a vague emotional message that didn t work. Consumers were left confused about what the brand meant. The Coke Zero brand team had studied beer ads for clues to appealing to young adult men, but the team hadn t clearly explained Coke Zero s reason for being in the market. The company sought to boil down Coke Zero s intrinsic value with a message that it delivered real Coke taste, zero calories. Five years on, the marketing pitch remains the same. Coke Zero was initially sold in white cans and bottles. In the feedback from consumers, Coca Cola researchers noticed a problem. The white packaging connoted diet drinks, and among the coveted young male demographic, diet connoted female. The company quickly borrowed an idea from its Australian division and swathed Coke Zero in black. Within six months, the new marketing and packaging were in place, and the brand took off. • 8. A Deep Space Hassam Analysis As for the use of space, Hassam creates the illusion that there is three dimensional space in this work. By making the buildings, trees, and people all appear to grow smaller in the background creates the illusion of a deep space, which in turn allows the painting to feel more realistic. The artist makes all of the objects that are closer up (or larger), to remain the focus because the farther away the other objects appear, the more they become blurred and indecipherable . Often times, this is how our eyes perceive things in reality as well, so this illusion successfully gives the work a more natural, three dimensional feel. Another element used in this work that really stands out to the viewer would most likely be color. The use of color ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Darwinian Snail Lab Report Darwinian Snails: Introduction In this experiment, we studied the manipulated effects of evolution by natural selection within a population of snails along the Rocky Coastline. The simulation of this lab is based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the shell shape and thickness of the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He saw that the shells had changed drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high spiraled with thin walls. Compared to the shells found after 1884 were low spiraled with thick walls. After doing some research, Seeley found that an intertidal crab, Carcinus maenas, had sought after the snails for food.(Seeley) It was found that the shell size had changed due to the harmful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but when does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so they won t be eaten by the crabs. In our experiment (McRae; Snails), we were asked to see how the snails evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of the population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still evolve if all the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the offspring would not be identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw a more variety in the population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of target and getting eaten more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to choose which snails I wanted to eat, being as I was the crab. I went for the ones that were easier to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Transgender Identity Transgenders have been a part of the LGBT community ever since continuously growing in representation most especially mainstream culture. Popular transgender people such as Laverne Cox and Caitlin Jenner are cultural representatives of this group. Filipino society has also experienced an emergence of LGBT and gendernon conformity. As reported by the United States Agency of International Development (USAID), reference was made to transvestism and crossing gender in the 16th and 17th century with the babaylan (Tan 8). Even if modern Filipino society tolerates trans personalities such as congresswoman Geraldine Roman, and Jake Zyrus, a trans male singer formerly known as Charice, there has yet to be true justice and respect for the trans community in even the smallest of circumstances. A transgender as defined by Cambridge Dictionary is, someone who feels that they are not the same gender (= sex) as the physical body they were born with, or who does not fit easily into being either a male or a female. Given their gender identity differing from their sex assigned at birth, a lot of the behavioral aspects in their lifestyle coordinate with the gender they identify with. A specific aspect of this would be the restroom that these trans people use, that being the opposite gender to what sex they were born as, or in short the gender of which they identify with. • 12. Nutrition and Its Effects on Criminality The criminal justice system in the United States focuses its efforts on issues such as over crowding in prisons, police brutality, hot spots, and the like. Although these are all very important, the most important could be considered; where the issue of criminality could be coming from. The focus here is the link between nutritionand criminality. The importance of good nutrition will be reviewed as well as the criminality linked to poor nutrition. Research has found the importance of a good balanced diet makes a big difference in the way that a person s brain functions. Lack of education on nutrition in low socioeconomic areas can be to blame in this aspect, as well as a lack of funds available to the families in these regions. This research will explore the importance of good nutrition, the link between it and criminality as well as supporting research in this area. Introduction In the United States, good nutrition has taken a back seat to convenient, low cost, prepackaged, and processed foods. We all have had our fill of macaroni and cheese as children, but how did that cheap and easy meal shape our general outcome as adults? What did that box of cheesy goodness really contain? Our society has gone into an epidemic when dinner is considered, a good meal as it comes out of a paper sack. Eating this way changes the way we eat, think, react, and live. This is displayed in a change in the physiology of our brain. Our intake of food affects the brain chemistry and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Eyewitness Testimony Experiment The aim of this experiment is to investigate the effect of leading questions on eyewitness testimony when asked to estimate the speed that a car is travelling in an accident. Participants were asked two questions in total. The first question was regarding the speed of the car with contrasting verbs (crashed/collided), the second questionasked was whether there was any glass at the scene of the accident. The hypothesis predicted that changing the language used in eyewitness testimony will affect memory. The DV was the participants estimated speed of the vehicles, and the IV was the noun that was changed in the leading question (crashed/collided). However, Zara implemented a different positioning strategy for Zara overseas. In contrast to Spain, where all of Zara s stores were company owned, Zara used three different methods to enter into the international markets: company owned stores for high profile countries, joint ventures for important countries where there were barriers to direct entry, and franchises for small countries. This helped Zara reduce operational risks and gained a detailed insight into local demand. Pamela mentions the marshmallow test created by Walter Mischel where he tested the patience of four and five years old, he placed a marshmallow on the table and leaved the toddlers unattended, they had the option to eat the marshmallow right away or wait and get two, he found out that toddlers could only wait 30 seconds and only a few waited 15 minutes (Druckerman , 2012). The exhibit that I enjoyed the most was the International Pop exhibit. But there were also many other exhibits that I enjoyed as well. Some of those include; European, American, Arms and Armor. All every interesting exhibits that everyone should see. But those are not all, when going to this museum, every exhibit should be looked at, all have very interesting things in them. On this page, four diagonal lines separate the page; one of which is not parallel with the others This demonstrates Maika s rapid movement, and the skewed line shows precisely how jarring her act of violence is. Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various interesting ways. Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current events in which they are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter Six, the lines are both black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others. Another innovative instance is in Chapter One when Maika attacks Sophia with a flamethrower. On this page, the flames move over the borders into other panels, showing just how much the flames are consuming. With the color palettes used in the various settings, Takeda sets the tone for the scenes and allows for better reader clarity. The first major setting in the novel is the city of Zamora, where inside the Cumaean stronghold, jewel tones and gold are the most dominant (Chapter One). This shows the reader the opulence and glamour the Cumaea experience, demonstrating their greed and power, which the reader learns is due to both being born with some magical abilities and their use of Lilium. The structures and functions of different lipocalins have been widely discussed. The structural similarity, physiological functions, synthesis, their number of amino acid residues, secondary structures of each lipocalin has been widely analyzed throughout this paper. Lipocalins are a family of proteins which contribute various physiological role in small molecules. Lipocalins are found to take part in binding, storage or sequestration of many low molecular weight compounds which shows poor solubility and easy decomposition, thereby stabilizing them and playing an important role. In humans lipocalins are present as secretory proteins in blood, genital secretions and tears. About Lipocalins: Lipocalins are small monomeric proteins with 150 180 residues, having compact fold with central eight ОІ strands. There are four loops which connect the ОІ strands and forms a cup shaped cavity. Different lipocalins can accommodate different chemical ligands (lipids, steroids, vitamins, cofactors etc.) of various shapes and sizes, depending on the length of the amino acid sequence of the loops. The name Lipocalins were given to a group of proteins comprising of the human О±1 acid glycoprotein, О±1 microglobulin, serum/plasma retinol binding protein, and bovine ОІ lactoglobulin on the basis of sequence homologies, disulfide bonds, functional similarities and their ability to bind with +complex lipophilic substances in ... It tested the first nuclear weapon in 1945 ( Trinity ), and remains the only country to have used nuclear weapons against an enemy state in warfare, devastating the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was the first nation to develop the hydrogen bomb, testing an experimental prototype in 1952 ( Ivy Mike ) and a deployable weapon in 1954 ( Castle Bravo ). What Are The Geographical Advantages Of Shanghai Geographical Factors Shanghai has inherited geographical advantages compared to other cities in China. shanghai is located at the T shaped junction along the sea coast and the Changing River. (Zou et al. 2001) The geographical advantages not only give Shanghai more opportunities to cooperate with foreign investors, but also give Shanghai more chances to learn about advanced commercial ideas. The city, therefore, become more international and opened. Firstly, as a coastal city, Shanghai has attractive areas for economic development and residence due to their productive natural resources. (Shi et al. 2001). The natural resources near the sea are one of the most essential factors for a frim to minimize its cost and increase its production. Secondly, because Shanghai is a coastal city, the method of sea shipping is especially convenient for Shanghai s factories to import or export goods. Apart from the sea shipping transportation method, Shanghai plays an important role that connects northern part of China and Southern part of China. Therefore, both the number of railway lines and the flight lines are relatively larger than other cities. Firms located in Shanghai are able to find advantages from the convenient transportation. Moreover, being a bridge to connect the north and the south gives Shanghai more opportunities to attract firms from all over China to invest in Shanghai. Furthermore, thirdly, there are many relatively small cities around Shanghai, such as Suzhou, Jiaxing and so on. Take an example of the relationship between Shanghai and Suzhou, Suzhou was more developed than Shanghai in the past, however, the war named the Taiping Rebellion (1851 1864) took over large areas of southern China (Meng 2006) and Suzhou was destroyed by this war. Shanghai therefore, became the alternative city to develop. Furthermore, these relatively small cities are not as developed as Shanghai, therefore, many people from these small cities feel like finding a job in Shanghai due to the more job opportunities in Shanghai. These phenomena discussed above has provided Shanghai more labor force. On the one hand, the cheap labor force provided to Shanghai is able to reduce the rural surplus labor, which is also ... While their ideas and desires were relatively the same, their rise to power and their consolidation of said power have significant and notable differences. While Franco went on to rule Spain until his death in 1975, both dictators had been in power at the same time, and with their similar ideas had formed a cordial relationship. Often, once the child grows up, they begin to have a greater understanding and are able to reflect on those relationships. In the poem, Those Winter Sundays, Robert Hayden writes of a son looking back on his relationship with his father and it s complexity. Their intricate relationship comes from the son feeling guilt about how unaware he was of everything his father did and how blinded he was by his childish judgments. Using details to look back on childhood, sound devices to show a masked feeling and repetition of the word cold to elaborate on the emotional distance the father shows, the speaker portrays his seemingly strict, yet caring father and an unknowing and indifferent... This begins with the first cold (Hayden 2) depicting a father constantly trying to do what s right for his family and having to deal with a son who s unappreciative and constantly giving him the cold shoulder because he can only see what shows up before him, unable to see past the wall of ice. In the second stanza the word cold is compiled with onomatopoeia so the reader can almost hear the sound of coldness, hear the cold splintering, breaking (Hayden 6). This signifies the son chipping away at the ice before him and seeing past his father s rough exterior to every small sacrifice he has done for his family. To end everything the use of the word cold (Hayden 11) symbolizes him breaking through and driving out every piece of hostile ice blocking the view of his true father. Things and people we love and treasure above all, but sometimes we let the pressures from society dictate to us what the standards of a happy life is, and we forget what is really important. In the story The Gift of the Magi, O. Henry reminds us the nature of true wealth, true generosity , and true love. In The Giftof the Magi we meet Della and Jim Young, a husband and wife that make sacrifices to buy each other a Christmas gift. The story takes place at the turn of the century in a New York City apartment, and deals with many themes such as love, poverty, and sacrifice. It is one of over 600 short stories Henry wrote in his lifetime, and was first published in a New York newspaper in 1905. Henry started writing short stories while in prison for embezzlement as a way to support his daughter. Ironically, the story does not seem to reflect Henry s luck with love and relationships. After years of fighting alcoholism, mental illness, and financial problems, Henry died in of cirrhosis of the liver in 1910 (imdb.com). One of the points made is that Jim and Della have the gift of true love. We see Della s love for Jim by what motives her to want to buy a nice gift. When art historians analyze composition, they focus on the overall arrangement and organizing design or structure of a work of art. Madonna of the Goldfinch is a painting by Raphael. The three figures, the Madonna and her two boys, are arranged in a triangular shape at the center of the painting. The artist emphasized this by opening the clouds to show a patch of blue in the middle of the sky, and by situating delicate trees around the figural group. This is a bilaterally symmetrical composition, because the Madonna is at the center of the painting while the two boys are divided between the two sides of the triangular shape approximately equidistant from the painting s center. This painting is not simply a painting depicting the pain those closest to Jesus suffered as a result of his crucifixion; rather, this painting is associated with extremely important moments in the life of the artist, such as his religious pilgrimage to Rome in 1450 and the initiation of his eldest son as a Carthusian monk at around the same time.
