The Shadow Of The Crescent Moon By Fatima Bhutto
The shadow of the crescent moon is a debut novel of Fatima Bhutto published by penguin
publications in 2013.
Fatima Bhutto was born in Kabul, grew up in Damascus, and lives in Karachi. She is a member of
one of the most famous families in Pakistan, Bhutto family a family that has produced two prime
ministers, her aunt Benazir Bhutto and her grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. In her debut novel she
talks about Pakistan s socio political issues. She doesn t only talk about the politics but has much
more to tell about the families relationships and all that stuff we are involved in. Mainly novel
highlights the issues like: war on terror its effects, Sunni s violence over Shia muslims the
insurgency of tribal men.
The plot is not structured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pakistan is a country that demands a sacrifice from its people. ... And I don t know if that s
specific to Pakistan. I think any violent place demands a certain amount of sacrifice from its people.
(Fatima Bhutto)
Bhutto s novel is not just a portrait of Pakistan s dark days wrought by fundamentalism war on
terror but it also serves as a window of Pakistan s bright side. In the scenes set in markets, bazaars,
dining tables funerals we glimpse the Pakistani culture so vividly especially of Pakistani foods that
we re compelled to admire Bhutto s affectionate depiction of her homeland. Moreover her use of
Pashto Urdu words in novel shows her understanding affection with all the regions.
The Shadow of the Crescent Moon is a disturbing but very readable book that tells the story of
Kings (military political officials) Fakirs (people of FATA). Love hates, sincerity betrayal, loyalty
treachery, bloodshed peace, are at the heart of this very book. Though this is the imperfect but a
worth reading book which I highly recommend, because give the actual situation of the FATA, is a
very daring work. And probably, only someone coming from the Bhutto dynasty can afford to write

Nietzsche s Genealogy Of Morals
During the late 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche examined the history of morals in his
Genealogy of Morals. In his work, Nietzsche reveals the origin of morality, and he goes further to
tear down the basis of Christianity and Kant s Moral Law to show that there is a plurality of
conflicting morals in society. Max Weber, who was a philosopher greatly influenced by Nietzsche,
writes further on the plurality declaring that there is a polytheism that is the result of many
conflicting values. Weber concludes that there is no science of ethics after Nietzsche, so there is
no way to determine the correct value system. There is currently polytheism and a plurality of
values that will not be resolved because all values are valid despite them conflicting... Show more

In this new polytheism, conflict rages between different gods, and it will go on for all time. It is
as it was in antiquity before the world had been divested of the magic of its gods and demons,
only in a different sense (Science as a Vocation p. 23). The contemporary polytheism is similar to
the ancient one in that it consists of conflict; however, in neo polytheism, the gods are
impersonal forces. There is no magic or personal gods in this new system. There is just
conflicting value systems where each value system is equally valid. This is a difficult reality for
people to digest due to the blinding strength the Christian church has on people. Christianity led
people to believe that there was only one way to live. Any other value system was wrong in the
eyes of Christians. People will become more aware that there is a plurality of value systems, and
that each set of values can be considered just as valid as the next: The destiny of our culture,
however, is that we shall once again become more clearly conscious of this situation after a
millennium in which our allegedly or supposedly exclusive reliance on the glorious pathos of the
Christian ethic had blinded us to it (Science as a Vocation p. 24). People will learn to move away
from the ethics laid forth by Christianity and, in the face of polytheism, make their own

Rabindranath Tagore Poem
Rabindranath Tagore (1861 1941) was the youngest son of Debendranath Tagore. Tagore had early
success as a writer in his native Bengal. With his translations of some of his poems he became
rapidly known in the West. In fact his fame attained a luminous height, taking him across continents
on lecture tours and tours of friendship. For the world he became the voice of India s spiritual
heritage and for India, especially for Bengal, he became a great living institution.
Although Tagore wrote successfully in all literary genres, he was first of all a poet. Among his fifty
and odd volumes of poetry are Manasi (1890) , Sonar Tari (1894) , Gitanjali (1910) , and many
more .Gitanjali , Song Offerings (1912), the most acclaimed of them, contains poems from other
works besides its namesake. Tagore s major plays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The frail vessel thou emptiest again and again and fillest it ever with fresh life . It suggests the
empty and destitute life of a man. Through this symbol the poet means to suggest that life
without the grace of God is as worthless as a pitcher without water. The day is no more; the
shadow is upon the earth. It is time that I go to the stream to fill my pitcher. Here, the poet is
eager to fill the empty pitcher with virtuous activities. The poet is always afraid that one day
when terrible Death knocks at his door, he will be able to welcome the guest with the full vessel.
Rabindrnath Tagore certainly is one of the greatest poets of the world. His achievement as a poet
rests mainly on his English Gitanjali. Gitanjali is a proof of Tagore s towering genius and
marvellous artistic powers. Tagore s Gitanjali shows apart from many other things, a fine use of
symbolism which is a blend of mysticism and music, religion and poetry. The list of the symbols
used by Tagore for explaining the meaning of the objects, mostly of sublime complexion, is

Ohio State University Traffic Investigation Report
Introduction
Maintaining a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors on campus is one of the Ohio
State University s greatest concerns. As one of the most common and dangerous threats to student
safety, traffic safety is always a vital consideration. Due to pedestrian complaints, the universityhas
directed their attention Woody Hayes Drive and Olentangy River Road. The team has been
appointed to approach this issue using a spot speed method. The purpose of this experiment was to
collect and evaluate traffic speed data in the area in order to determine if further action from the
university is necessary to improve traffic safety.
The next section, experimental methodology, describes how the experiment was setup, carried out,
and the conditions in which the experiment took place. Section 3 displays the results that were
obtained from the experimental procedure, as well as provides a brief description as how the data
were evaluated. Section 4 attempts to create a logical interpretation as to what the results mean, as
well as identify any potential errors that may have skewed the results. Finally, section 5 summarizes
the report, and suggests conclusions for the results posed throughout the experiment and potential
solutions to errors discussed in section 4.

To determine this interval, a ruler was used to find two points on the curve in Figure A1 whose
horizontal distance between such points equaled ten miles per hour. Those two points were
determined to be the end limits of the pace. Since the cumulative frequency and frequency graphs
shared an x axis, vertical lines were drawn down from these two points and used to find the
cumulative percent limits of 88% and 15%. The difference between the two percent limits
determined the percent of vehicles traveling within the pace. This yielded 88% 15%=73% of total

Decriminalization of Marijuana
There has been talk about the decriminalization of marijuana for many years, and it is a very
controversial subject. The Liberal government stated in its platform that it intended to
decriminalize marijuana if elected and since being elected, they have promised to decriminalize
it by April 2017. A 2012 poll by Angus Reid showed that 57% of Canadians are in favor of
legalizing marijuana (MacLean s 2013). Many people believe that even if it is not decriminalized,
there should be less harsh penalties to those who are caught with it. There are many reasons
marijuana should be decriminalized such as the many health ... Show more content on

Rubiks Cube
How many of you have ever tried to solve this? I wouldn t be wrong if I say all of you, once in your
lives have tried to solve it, and I do know that you all tried to answer questions you didn t know.
What if I said the secret of the future is in a Rubiks Cube? Since the beginning of humanity
people ask themselves Where did I came from? , What am I doing where? and Where am I going?
and after all of these years we still did not know, or we only thingwe don`t know. Somethings are
just so complex that we stop trying to achieve when they actually could be easier than you think.
Trying something new or unknown to us is always a difficult task. The oldest and strongest
emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
People need to label things, and who doesn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not being in control means not being in charge of the outcome of whatever it is inside that box,
and this is why we are so scared about facing the unknown. Now, try to imagine this cube as the
Unknown. You don t know how to solve it, you don`t know how it works, but someway, if you
view it from a different angle, you can find its pattern and give it a meaning. Put it in a box .
When dealing with faceless things, always imagine them as things you already know and try to fit
them in a box you already have. Keep in mind that things usually are much easier than they seem
and giving up should always be the last circumstance. Replace the fear of the unknown with
curiosity. It is part of the process of evolution facing the faceless, and if you don t take risks you
will never find yourself, or find meanings for your life. I am not saying that it is easy, but it is
necessary. Get out of the box and try new things. The unknown is a door for something different,
and maybe if you open it, you will find a whole new world of experiences. The future is the
unknown, and the only secret to achieve it is to take risks and never stop trying.

Under Pinochet Essay
. The new government, and the military faction, became the force behind a new societal order. The
military group removed the political aspects from the state by eliminating Marxism. The
government held back and controlled the population in order to carry out programmes of economic
growth. Although copper remained nationalised, many state owned industries were sold and land
returned to foreign owners (Hecht, 1999). The governmentwas first confronted with inflation. In
result Pinochet came up with a method known as shock treatment designed to quickly put a stop to
inflation. The government dramatically increased the price of goods and drastically cut public
spending; inflation fell from 375% in 1975 to 9.9% in 1982 (Pinochet, 1973).

In contrast Pinchot used his power to install a military dictatorship, controlling the population and
introducing a new economic structure, while also reversing the changes Allende inforced. Under
Pinochet s rule, the growth brought on by free market reforms did not improve the standard living
among Chile s lower class (pinochet,1973). Whereas under Allende the majority of the population,
were beginning to experience a new social economic order where the lives for ordinary people
were improving. The measures of Pinochet s economic success are presented to us via higher GDP
and decreased inflation, which tells us nothing about non economic factors such as literacy rate, life
expectancy or public health. Higher GDP does not mean an increase of living standards and quality
of life; therefore policies aimed at maximising GDP are not pertinent . Using ambiguous terms such
as political stability and economic improvement it can be acknowledged that Pinochet brought
about some improvements. However, the repression and human rights violations, in my opinion
reveal that any successes are ineffective, as they have no real positive impact on the lives of the
majority. Chile is now being described as the most unequal country. The Pinochet government has
made the country more unstable, between those who justify the dictatorship and those who trust in

Another challenge is to formulate strategies for over 100 companies in more than 80 countries.
Besides this, another problem of Tata Group is the high involvement of Ratan Tata, who is the
chief steward of the group of nine senior executives sitting on the boards of the Tata companies, in
both the negotiations of major deals and the details of his auto making, telecom or steel businesses
(Luthans and Doh 2009). The next challenge for Tata is on how to absorb the struggling Corus
mills. Other challenges for the future include deciding on which businesses to spin off and which
to pursue, what will happen to the conglomerate during an economy slow down. The most
challenge issue for Tata Group perhaps would be to fill the void left behind by the energetic and
visionary Mr Ratan Tata Chairman of the Tata Group, when he retire (Koontz and Weihrich 2010).

Speech On Epic Failure
Epic Failure: The Road to Success is Paved with the Stones of Failure. Thomas Edison Said, Our
greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one
more time. I guess it s a good thing Nikola Tesla did not give up or we would not have AC power.
Failure is a fact of life and the lessons learned by failure cannot be taught in any college. The only
true failure is the act of giving up. Today I will talk about one of my most epic fails in my real
estate business. There are four basic steps to my business plan. They are research, purchase,
rehab, and rent. My very first acquisition I had not quite refined my plan and it ended in failure.
The remarkable thing is that it was my first lesson in the business. These lessons come often and
I continue to recognize them in greater frequency. The first step in my business plan is to find a
property in a given area that is destressed and may be for sale. This property may be a foreclosure
or it may be owned by a bank. One of the ways to spot a potential property is to drive by the
nationhood that you want to purchase property and look for unkept lawns. If the grass is
extremely tall this is a good indicator that the property may be in trouble. Once I find a property
I have a 1.3 percent rule. The rule is 1.3 percent of the total investment should cover the rent. For
example, for a total investment of $100,00.00 I should expect the rent to be around $1300.00 per
month. If the neighborhood average rent is below that amount I will not buy the property. Once
the initial assessment is done and it meets the 1.3% rule I do thorough inspection of the property
to minimize the risk of exceeding the 1.3 percent. One of the main issues I look for is termite
damage to the support beams under the house. The next step after all the research is done is to
purchase the house. This process can be as daunting as the research. If the property is bank
owned or in some sort of foreclosure state ther are some pitfalls to look out for. One of the biggest
one is an unclean or unclear title. The property could have many different types of leans against if
before it is considered clean. After purchasing the property, the next step is renovation. This

Differences Between The Movie And Movie

They were stranded for 72 days in the harsh, unfamiliar environments; their story of survival would

Surviving the Andes Plane Crash (2010) and the movie Alive (1993). A documentary and a movie

degree. The diverse primary sources and expert analyses constantly lead to viewers to think about
the real story behind the screen. Alive wasn t as convincing, and therefore connected less with the
watchers. The various alterations hint that producers paid less attention to the truth and detail,
instead focusing on entertaining the audience. But Flight 571 is a story that cannot be entirely told

The History Behind The Conflict
The History Behind the Conflict
A conflict that started when the Romans invaded and conquered Judea, the homeland of the Jews,
and claimed it to be Palestine. Later on, Palestine was conquered by the Arabs. For more than a
thousand years, the Arabs have inhabited in Palestine.
With much resentment for those who stole their home of ancient times, there was the creation of
the Zionist Movement. The plan was to bring back Jews to Israel, but with the situations, they were
to overlook the large population of the Arabs located there.
In 1917, Palestine was endowed to Britain. Palestine was acknowledged as a League of Nations
mandate to construct a national home for the Jews. Resentment was now towards the Jewish
population for stealing land that the Arabs claimed as theirs. Riots were commonly repeated, and
following was a revolt. Fabricating the rivalry between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine.
In 1947, the United Nations rationed the land into states between the Arabs and the Jews. This was
not accepted by the Arabs, so a war was declared. With the Jews being victorious, they extended
their state. The Arab states still refused to recognize Israel or make an attempt to make peace.
With the Jews and the Arabs disagreeing with one another, many wars broke out, terror raids
executed, and the Israeli reprisals.

1) I feel that our podcast project is a success when referring to our progress check in. The main goal
that I wanted to achieve was to create a podcast that will show soon to be lawyers and prosecutors
that they are incarcerating people with an illness, not criminals. This should lead to empathy and
create institutions that rehabilitate drug addicts rather than incarcerate them. The factors that deem
this progress a success are the systematic, institutional and personal problems that told listeners
about. We talked about the systematic problems that stemmed from Richard Nixon s War on Drugs
and how African Americans were disproportionately targeted. Next, we showed how the War on
Drugs created institutional problems. As an example we used the Medical University of Southern
Carolinas policy to drug test pregnant women, which led to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We then explained how every mother that was tested was black and that the only white mother
tested was having a black child. Lastly, we talked about the personal problems that came from
incarcerating mothers, specifically African American mothers. Using two personal accounts we
talked about how the incarceration of women of color leads to intergenerational poverty. This
podcast clearly shows how African American women are targeted through drugs and that
incarceration is not the answer. 2) Although our project incorporates diverse viewpoints, they are
limited to what Rachelle and I were able to access within the allotted time to record our podcast.
We used scholars from class material, personal accounts, and outside sources that stem from our

lived experiences of African American women. Collin s work gives a viewpoint that allows
listeners to see the reality black women go through as factual evidence. We followed Patricia Hill

Progressivism Dbq
Progressivism began as a series of local movements and included many different efforts to
improve the working society. It was a movement by the people to curb the power of special
interest. More specifically it was a protest by an aroused citizenry against the excessive power of
urban bosses, corporate moguls, and corrupt elected officials. Slowly these efforts became national
efforts. Progressives were hopeful that society was capable of improvement and that continued
growth and advancement were the nation s destiny. Progressives also believed that growth and
progress could not continue to occur recklessly as they had not continue to occur recklessly, as they
had in the late nineteenth century. Another progressive impulse was a belief in the... Show more

It supported economic concentration and using government to regulate and control it. The New
Freedom, worried individuals and states rights. In speeches and writings he argued that
government must play a larger role in the national life in order to preserve the economic and
political freedoms that Americans had historically enjoyed. As President, Wilson focused on three
types of reform: Tariff Reform, Business Reform, and Banking Reform. Wilson s first triumph as
president was the fulfillment of an old Democratic goal, which was to lower the protective tariff.
The Underwood Simmons Tariff provided cuts significant enough to introduce real competition
into American markets and thus to help break the power of trust. To make up for the loss of
revenue under the new tariff, Congress approved a graduated income tax, which the Sixteenth
Amendment permitted. The first income tax imposed a 1% tax on individuals earning more than
$4,000 a year, with rates ranging up to 6% on incomes over $500,000. Wilson also worked with
Congress on a major reform of the American banking system, the Federal Reserve Act. It created
twelve regional banks, each to be owned by the individual banks of its district. The regional
Federal Reserve banks would hold a certain percentage of the assets of their member banks in
reserve. They would use those reserves to support loans to private banks with an interest rate

Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans
Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors
and defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were
living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never
seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when
the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then
began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you
wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how
many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native
Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all
captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course,
Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and
attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the
three that was captured was Mr. John Smith.
While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a
surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John
Smith s men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass.

Occupational Therapy Is A Way Of Changing Lives Essay
Occupational therapy is a way of changing lives by means of improving skills used in daily
activities and therefore increasing quality of life. Occupational therapy enhances everyday
experiences for a diverse group of individuals ranging from infants to the elderly, including those
with cognitive, developmental, mental, and physical disabilities. I am excited to pursue a career in
occupational therapybecause I realized at a young age that occupational therapists understood my
younger sister with Down syndrome in the same way that I did. They saw her first as a person
with many strengths and abilities that they worked to build upon. OTs acknowledged her ideas
and how she enjoyed playing, which they used as a basis for creating meaningful therapeutic
activities. I observed OTs adapt the environment within my home to fit the wants and needs of my
sister while understanding and developing her as a whole person throughout each therapy session.
OTs tremendously impacted my sister s life by helping her with activities of daily living from
infancy to young adulthood, such as learning to swallow, gripping a spoon, or figuring out
modification strategies for getting dressed. For these reasons along with the foundation of a
holistic approach to therapy, occupational therapists tend to be my favorite healthcare professionals
involved in my sister s care. My personal experience along with my education, research, and
professional experiences have led and prepared me to study occupational

Ministry Interview Report
Following and understanding the journeys of the ministers before us is significant in the light of
our own ministry. Each person should look up to a minister in their lives and understand their
methods along with their past and current positions. An interview is one of the best ways to
discover these. The person I interviewed has been my pastorand guide since I was born. He has
pastored at Community Baptist Church, the church I attend, my whole life. He has taught me most
of the things I knew concerning God previous to attending Barclay College. He baptized me when
I decided to accept Jesusas my savior at seventeen years old and helped keep me with Christ
throughout the years. This man s name is Richard Bishop, informally known as Pastor Rick. I
inquired of him the answers to four questions; How long have you been a pastor, and is
Community Baptist Church the only one you ve pastored? , What do you consider to be your
philosophy in ministry? , What type of educationdid you receive in order to become a pastor? , and,

evangelism, discipleship, and ministry while helping lead students to Christ. Eventually, he felt a
calling to come back home to Wyoming to become a pastor. When he came back, he was assigned

Art Angels Analysis
After six years of performing under the name Grimes, Claire Boucher is blasting into the
stratosphere of mainstream pop; her intergalactic, out of this world beats and drastically
softened sound made more palatable for radio on her newest release Art Angels. Swapping out
her signature dream pop with thudding, club beats and more confident sounding vocals,
Boucher describes the album s style as genre less, blurring the lines between all styles of pop.
The genre blending album covers a lot of ground in its 14 songs, and features more live
instrumentation than ever before, including piano, guitar, and violin, all played by her. Much like
a Bowie album from the mid 70 s Art Angels has a pop side and a weird side; the album starts slow

demo she shared earlier this year. The track is the best example to show how much she has
evolved...... It studio version is sharper, a thumping beat, sharper vocals and a watered down
version of her classic dream pop, which at some times is non existent. The same could be said for
the rest of the songs on the album. On Art Angels everything is, and is sometimes too,

Chastity In The Canterbury Tales
Through the union of thirty four pilgrims on their journey to Canterbury for absolution, Chaucer
pens the tales and interactions of the pilgrims of various ranks and ecclesiastic affiliation. He
negotiates a social hierarchy different from that of the current governing structure through his acute
understanding of the behaviors, beliefs, and pretenses that cemented such order. Chaucer s
microcosm of caricaturized hierarchies criticizes the current social order defining the late 1300s,
exposes the decadence of the disintegrating social structure, and hints at his idyllic version of a
more correct institution. To understand Chaucer s lampoonery, it is imperative to understand the
current rankings and privilege from whence he came. Born to a... Show more content on

When the supporting cast of women effort for mastery over their husbands; they abandon it the
moment they attain it. In an era where chastity was expected and cherished, the Wife of Bath
presents a refreshing alternative to such concepts. She boasts of her sexual proclivity and
contends that male genitalia serves a greater purpose than simply urination. Her freeness in
indulging in sexual activity and her multiple spouses speaks to her inner confidence and lack of
privacy. Her character discusses the power relations between men and women and posits that
women desire domination and control over men ( The Wife of Bath s Tale , 229); however, the
domination that they crave is surface level in that women relapse into their subordinate stereotypes
once they have been granted such control. In an analogous vein, the Nun s Priest Tale offers a
varied stance from feminist s push for coexisting powers if not complete domination. When
Chanticleer confides in his dear Pertelote about his premonition, she dismisses his qualms and
accuses him of cowardice. Her desire for a courageous mate parallels men s objectification of
women and exposes the equally one dimensional consideration given to

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Response Paper

COM 201
Response Paper 1: Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Life is full of uncomfortable situations. Whether it s 12:01 on December 21, 2012 or seconds
before a drop on a rollercoaster, we rationalize the situation to create a sense of equilibrium.
Cognitive Dissonance Theory explains why we experience the mental discomfort called dissonance
that arises from inconsistent attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors and how we take action or change
our thinking to alleviate the discomfort (West Turner, 2014, pp. 110 111).
When humans have encounter situations that are consistent with what they are comfortable with
they experience consonance, or equilibrium (West Turner, 2014, p. 111). This is the ultimate state

I was already anxious because of the large crowds and unnecessarily deafening music, however
once my roommates and I reached the solid block of dancing sweaty bodies, I began to

Tour To Cortez
We stayed in the small town of Cortez, CO. It was a nice quite town with good 4th of July
fireworks. We ate at Destination Grill. It s next to the Holiday Inn. The food was really good

arrive really early because traffic in the park was bad. The lodge was about 30 minutes inside the

and Cliff Palace. I recommend touring Cliff Palace and the rest of Mesa Verde during the
morning if you re visiting during the summer. We toured Cliff Palace at 10:30 and it was
complete shade. Cliff Palace is not a hike that you need to take if you have heart, hip, knee, or
shoulder problems. This hike requires climbing down steep stairs and climbing ladders. There is
one short ladder before you get to Cliff Palace, and then there is a very long ladder when you
leave Cliff Palace. Bring water when you come to Mesa Verde, even in the morning. Also be
mindful of altitude changes. Cliff Palace is located at a 7,000 foot attitude. My house in

Military Narrative
The day started as another usual on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Zangabad. I had woken up
to ensure that my men had all of their sensitive items on them and report to my Squad Leader
that they did. On that day we were heading out to T.I. 2, a desolate array of Hesco barriers set up
as an Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP) Checkpoint. It was our Company s responsibility to
partner with the AUP down there to help protect T.I. 2 so that they can conduct their own patrols.
It was located roughly a thousand meters south of Fob Zangabad, and about five hundred meters
east of the town of Gerandi. Gerandi was the stronghold of the Taliban in that area, so T.I. 2 was
key to disrupting their operations in the surrounding area. So it was vital that we helped secure it

The Atmosphere and The Ozone Layer
The atmosphere is an amazing creation. It contains many things that help make this world a place
where we can live. The atmosphere contains ozone. That helps protect our skin from harmful sun
rays. Many layers make up our atmosphere. There are five main layers, the troposphere,
stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and lastly the exosphere. Each layer has a different
purpose. Clouds are located in the atmosphereand are a big part of the water cycle. There are
different types of clouds and they all have different effects. Conduction and convection also play a
big part in how we live our lives today.
Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Without ozone, our
skin would burn from the suns radiation. Ozone can be either good or bad for your health. It
depends on the location of it in the atmosphere. It can also be bad for the environment. When ozone
is near the ground it is considered very dangerous. During the hot summer months ozone levels
should be monitored. In the summer, more harmful ozone concentrations are in the air we use.
Inhaling ozone can be very dangerous to our health. It can cause a number of health problems.
Scientists are figuring out ways to help keep the air clean and people and the environment healthy.

Metaphors In Domestic Birds
Another animal commonly kept as a pet is the bird. Common species of domestic birds include the
muniya canary and the parakeet. Like the previous pet names analyzed, these bird metaphors also
concentrate the senses of small size, youth, domesticity and entertainment. In Hindi Urdu, the very
word bird is defined as a girl or a young woman(Webster). The metaphor is usually charged with
affective connotations, being commonly used as a term of endearment. This positive evaluation
appears to have its roots in the amorous disposition of the animalas well as in the folk tradition that
associates birds with symbols of love (cf Talebinejad Dastejerdi, 2005). In fact, the state of being in
love of a couple is metaphorically instantiated by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The repertoire of metaphors designating women as pets reveals a clear imbalance in favor of terms
of abuse. Indeed, with the exception of pet, bird and in certain contexts billi (kitten), all the
aforementioned metaphors analyzed convey negative evaluations. Moreover, interestingly, even
within the favorable animal terms, only kitten/gatita is restricted to females, since bird and pet are
ambisexual in nature.
In the conceptualization of women as pets, youth and small size appear to play a determinant role
in the encoding of the metaphor, implying immaturity (the lack of age involves inexperience) and
helplessness (unlike other animals, pets need to be looked after by people). Furthermore, the
physical surroundings of pets, whose whole life spins around the house, might imply the idea of
domesticity. This confinement to the domestic arena is particularly remarkable in the case of bird
names, since birds are kept in

Emergency Preparedness, Response And Recovery Programmes
1.Introduction
In the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting tsunami, over 4000 scientists,
government officials, NGOs and UN representatives met in Kobe, Japan to address one of the
most important tests the world has to face: disaster risk reduction (DRR). The product of the
conference was the 10 year Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015. Endorsed by 168 countries,
the document promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and
planning, building resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the
implementation of emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). In
order to achieve these goals, the framework states 5 priorities of action:

Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in
giving greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of
countries reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in
2009 and over 100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see
the increase of interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in
participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR,
thanks in no small part to the Framework.
There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of
action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards,
including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of
National Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam
International, 2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen
from 63 to 192, indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo
Framework for Action. Nonetheless, there is yet to be seen some significant headway in
harmonizing legislative frameworks in other sectors, such as water resources, agriculture, etc. with
the new laws, which sometimes can lead to key difficulties in disaster risk management.
The most important accomplishment of the HFA is

Diphtheria, Diphtheria And Respiratory Diphtheria
Introduction: Diphtheria used to be one of largest killers in the ancient world until a vaccine was
founded in the 1800 s. Diphtheria has declined for over the past 100 years. Diphtheria is in
coalition with tetanus and pertussis. For children under the age of eight, a combined vaccine of
diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis(Tdap) is given together ( Henri 2012).
History:
Diphtheria has been found as early as 1613 in Spain, and epidemics can still break out today. The
diphtheria vaccine was created in the 1920 s, but in 2011, 4,887 cases of diphtheria were recorded
(Henri, 2012). 10 percent of all children are vaccinated for diphtheria (Chen, 1985).
Type of diseases: Diphtheria consists of a single protein with a disulfide bond linking two fragments
(Henri, 2012). There are two types of diphtheria: clinical diphtheria and respiratory. Classical
respiratory diphtheria is characterized by the formation of a gray white pseudomembrane in the
throat that is firmly adherent (Wagner, 2012). Clinical diphtheria is caused by toxin producing
corynebacteria. Diphtheria is related to three species Corynebacterium diphtheriae, C. ulcerans, and
C. Pseudotuberculosis. Corynebacterium diphtheriae is common of potentially species and is
associated with epidemic diphtheria and person to person transmission. Corynebacterium
diphtheriae has four biovars: gravis, mitis, intermedius, and belfanti The rare Corynebacterium
ulcerans is associated with cattle or raw dairy products.

Why We Need Planned Parenthood
Why We Need Planned Parenthood
In July of 2015 an undercover video was released to the public claiming Planned Parenthood
engages in the selling of fetal tissues. These highly doctored videos released as apart of a series
by a group called The Center for Medical Progress in attempt to uncover this malpractice within
Planned Parenthood clinics. The selling fetal tissue for profit is an illegal activity in the United
States therefore the topic alone became of interest to the public. Due to the graphic nature of these
videos telling this horrific story, it gained much attention from the public and the media, leading
Planned Parenthood to come under a great deal of fire. It became such an issue that a bill went to
congress arguing for Planned Parenthood to be defunded by the government. The misinformation
spread by this group, and others alike, is dangerous for the otherwise unknowing public and could
have led to a very negative outcome that would affect the public more than it is aware.
In 1916 Margaret Sanger opened the first clinic in Brooklyn, New York to provide contraceptives
to women. The clinic was highly controversial and faced many issues due to birth control s illegal

Lincoln Vs Calhoun
As with Calhoun, Lincoln s notion of the Union and state sovereignty also ties into the principle of
majority rule. However, Lincoln has a far different opinion than Calhoun, arguing that within the
Union, the people, not the states, are the sovereign body, founded on the principle of majority rule.
Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession
cannot possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to
tyranny and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our
government and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. Discussing this point
further, Lincoln writes, Unanimity is impossible; the rule of the minority, as a permanent

All rules, laws, or amendments will produce a majority and minority opinion. Ultimately, while
Calhoun argues that majority rule leads to majority tyranny, Lincoln claims that secession allows
tyranny of the minority by allowing a small group of people to undermine the entire government.
Furthermore, because government is based on majority rule, secession violates both the Union
and Constitution. As Lincoln notes, if all the States, save one, should assert the power to drive
that one out of the Union, it is presumed the whole class of seceding politicians would at once
deny the power, and denounce the act as the greatest outrage against State rights (Lincoln 252).
Lincoln points out the hypocrisy in Calhoun s argument, claiming that if the roles were reversed
and the majority was trying to drive out the minority, advocates of secession would be outraged.
As a whole, Lincoln is a large critic of the views of Calhoun, and presents arguments that are polar
opposites of his ideology regarding the Union and majority

Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education
Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational
services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math.
This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was
signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce
Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current
accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level
development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness.
Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and
language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable;
an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency
diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to
improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of
high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli,
Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the
primary federal programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult

Nuclear Fission Essay
Introduction
In 1939, the discovery of nuclear fission unlocked the potential of an entirely different source of
power. The utilization of internal energy contained in the atomic nucleus has provided a major
solution to present and future power source needs by turning away from fossil fuels such as coal,
oil and natural gas and currently encompass three fourth of world s energy requirements to cleaner
alternatives such as nuclear power and renewables.
The objective of this paper is provide a comparison of the current types of nuclear reactors such as

What is Nuclear Fission?
Nuclear Fission is the main process by which humans are able to generate energy from the nucleus
of atoms. In order to discuss the nuclear fission process the role of the neutron must be examined.
The collision of a neutron in motion with a fissionable nucleus an essential pre condition that
creates the nuclear fission process. In order for fission to occur a neutron of the requisite energy
must collide into, and merge with a fissionable nucleus to create a new compound nucleus. The
formation of the new compound nucleus, in the case of Uranium 238, can be described by the
following nuclear reaction: U 238 + n U 239. In situations where nuclear fission successfully
occurs new nuclei are created from the remnants of the old nuclei. The velocity or energy of the
colliding neutron is a significant factor in the fission process. Nuclear fission can occur after a
heavy nuclei captures a neutron. The low energy neutrons which are slow or thermal can result in
the fission of isotopes of Plutonium and Uranium whose nuclei have an odd number of

Many people like to count down to welcome the New Year, but I have stopped attending

euphoria that drinks and partying bring; maybe it is the kindred spirits, goodwill and
companionship; maybe it is the opportunity to start afresh and set goals not attained in the previous

My Life After The Big Rock Candy Mountain By Harry Mcclintock
Throughout my life, I have moved around three times but have lived in four different states. I
have lived in Montana, Wisconsin, Indiana and last but not least, Illinois. Every move has taught
me what life is really about. In fact, throughout each move I have associated music into my life
immensely. Traveling with music was my way of expressing who I am through each move. These
five songs I associate with my traveling experiences and how they have impacted my perspective
on life. Days Go By by Keith Urban, Bartender by Lady Antebellum, The Big Rock Candy
Mountainby Harry McClintock, Send My Love by Adele and I would walk 5,000 miles by Mary
Carpenter are my top five songs of traveling with music. While traveling and seeing the world,...

In a way you could say that Keith Urban saved my mother s sanity, so thank you Keith Urban.
It was not recently that I went to my first concert ever, which was in fact Keith Urban. It was a
good way to bring back all the old memories that we had, traveling back to Montana every year. To
this day, we still travel out west but since we have been moving around a lot; we are not as reliant
on Keith Urban as we used. However, he is still our calming music when life gets tough for our
family.
Bartender by Lady Antebellum it top two of my favorite songs. I like this song not only because
of the message that is says, but the story behind it. I like how whenever, I listen to this song I
remember exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time. It was the summer of 2014 at
one of our cabins in the Big Sky country of Montana. My aunt came running out of the door
yelling at us to come help her. As we ran into the bathroom in crisis mood ready to help wherever
we could. Little did we know, it was not a fire or broken lamp, the problem was located in the
bathroom. As we walked into the bathroom, we all screamed. Water was overflowing from the
toilet every direction, from that moment on we knew that the toilet was severely clogged. Since
the septic tank was made during the early 1800 s, we could not just unclog it with a plunger. Two
roader eaters, and ten people we finally managed to unclog

Bargain Shoppers
When heading to the local mall, we don t stop and think about all the different types of people
we will be seeing as we walk down the aisles of our favorite shops. We figure out what we need
or what it is that we need to look for and we don t look back until all of the shopping is complete.
Never have I ever stopped to think about what everyone else might be doing there, until now. It is
very important for us to understand what types of situations, people may be in and why they act the
way they do when at the town shopping mall. It is hard to dodge everyone in a crowded mall, but
everyone makes sure to stay out of the way of the rushing moms. We all know that if someone is

They stand around before entering a store, looking to see if they can find any deals online or to
gather all the coupons they have saved up. If it is not possible to get something for at least 50

of the best deals, the bargain shoppers wait outside the mall doors before it even opens for the
day. It is impossible not to know when a bargain shopper is around because they will definitely
be bragging about all the wonderful deals they caught for the day. For them, it is like a treasure

Stewardship In The Bible
There will be eternal reward and consequences beyond residency in heaven. The judgment time
is called the Bema Seat of Christ or judgment seat of Christ. That day of reckoning is described
in the following three passages: 1 Corinthians 3:12 15, 2 Corinthians 5:10, and Romans 14:10 12.
These passages include a reckoning of more than just financial issues. The above truth is a
sobering fact of Scripture. If Millennials were to internalize these values, it would create a sense of
careful calculations in all matters of life.
After determining that God owns all things and that Christians are accountable to God, it is
important to clarify how the word steward is used in the Bible. In biblical times a steward was a
trusted person given responsibility for someone else s possessions which may include care for
livestock, immediate family members, or servants. , A steward s duty was to manage on behalf of
the master with the purpose to increase the master s resources or influence. Finally, it implied some
form of judgment or reckoning to reward the steward if he was faithful in the management of the
entrusted resources. Often, stewardship is thought of only in terms of finances, but the Bible
teaches that stewardship is a far greater concept, involving how we respond with all of our life. For
the purposes of this dissertation topic, the Project Director acknowledges stewardship includes
more than finances but will focus predominantly on financial stewardship. If the project

Leadership Concepts Of The Film Nemo
In this paper I will identify and explain the leadership concepts that I learned in this class using
characters from the film Finding Nemo. To do so I will provide examples of transformative
leadership and describe the impact it had on others. I will also explain how the characters acquired
their leadershipeffectiveness by identifying experiences that were instrumental in their leadership
development.
Transformative Leaders The three characters in the film Finding Nemo that displayed
transformative leadership are Marlin, Dory and Gill. Marlin0020goes on a journey to find his
lost son Nemo. While on his journey Marlin experiences many challenges and meets new
friends. Marlin learns that he no longer needs to be afraid, and that he can be a leader. Along the
way Marlin meets Dory, who joins him on his journey. She is a very positive fish who suffers
from short term memory loss. Dory always maintains a positive attitude, calms Marlin as he
becomes upset and helps Marlin become more positive as well (Bennis, 2009). Throughout the
movie Dory shows Marlin that he can trust her. Dory easily adjusts to new situations and thinks
outside of the box which contributes to Marlin being reunited with Nemo. As Dory and Marlin s
journey nears the end Marlin begins to have a lot of respect and trust for Dory. Gill is also a
transformative leader. Nemo met Gill in the fish tank at the dentist s office after he was captured.
Nemo was very scared and unfamiliar with his new

Essay Impact of Stalanism on the Soviet State
The concept of Stalinism, being the ideologies and policies adopted by Stalin, including
centralization, totalitarianism and communism, impacted, to an extent, on the soviet state until
1941. After competing with prominent Bolshevik party members Stalin emerged as the sole leader
of the party in 1929. From this moment, Stalinism pervaded every level of society. Despite the
hindrance caused by the bureaucracy, the impact of Stalinism was achieved through the
implementation of collectivization and the 5 year plans, Stalin s Political domination and Cultural
influence, including the Cult of the Personality . This therefore depicts the influence of Stalinism
over the Soviet State in the period up to 1941. In the period before 1941,... Show more content on

The 3 5 year plans focused on heavy industry, as well as an emphasis on electricity, coal, oil and
steel. The latter sections of industry greatly increased including coal (million tons) rising to 128 in
1937. Although during this time period, famine and forced labour occured, the 5 year plans were a
success. Through the implementation of Collectivization and the 5 year plans, it can be seen how
Stalinism impacted upon the economy, and thus the Soviet State. Although collectivization and the
5 year plans were a success, Stalinism faced its primary negative impact through these polices; the
Bureaucracy. This is a system of government in which lesser members of political parties make
most of the important decisions or control the happenings of the state. The peasants were the ones
carrying out Stalin s policies; however, they were working for nothing, which resulted in quotas not
being met, forcing the Bolshevik in charge of that sector to lie. Plans were developed to try and
contain the bureaucracy. Alexei Stakhanov allegedly cut 16 times the normal amount of coal in one
shift. Stalin and the government used this to provide ideological incentive for the workers, thus
inventing the Stakhanovites . Despite this however, the bureaucracy was to remain, serving as the
foremost negative impact to Stalinism. Stalin s unquestionable dominance over the Bolshevik party
and their actions highlights the impact of Stalinism

Felis Cat Research Paper
The scientific name for a cat is Felis Catus.
Most house cats although they re much safer inside from disease and danger tend to be
overweight and underactive. Cats like people and dogs benefit from being both fit and active.
Exercise is a need for your cat s mental and physical health because it relieves stress and
boredom, improves circulation, builds muscle, and can prevent or reduce behavioral problems.
Cats like movement so the toy must be one that can move rapidly and in unpredictable ways just
like a mouse or bird. Cats like to scratch and stretch and need to exercise their paws to keep their

John Coltrane Essay
John Coltrane
John Coltrane Jazz, taking its roots in African American folk music, has evolved, metamorphosed,
and transposed itself over the last century to become a truly American art form. More than any
other type of music, it places special emphasis on innovative individual interpretation. Instead of
relying on a written score, the musician improvises. For each specific period or style through which
jazz has gone through over the past seventy years, there is almost always a single person who can
be credited with the evolution of that sound. From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Miles Davis

Melody Makers. Upon his return from Hawaii a year later, Coltrane launched his music career.
With all those years of constant practice in High Point behind him, possessing a powerful inner
strength from being raised in a deeply religious family, and with a foundation in musical theory
and an innate curiosity about life, Coltrane was well prepared to seriously enter a battle. In the
late nineteen forties, Coltrane began playing with several different R B groups in small bars and
clubs around Philadelphia. It became a tradition in many of the clubs at this time for musicians to
walk the bar (i.e. to walk on top of the bar while playing one s instrument). Coltrane was ashamed
of having to go through this display every night. To any serious musician, it was an incredibly
humiliating experience to someone like Coltrane, who was developing a type of religious fervor

Using Cognitive Biases In Research
At first I did not know what the meaning of cognitive biases is, so I had to do some research to
better understand the meaning. From what I have research cognitive biases is basically you see
what you want, and look for things to confirm what you are looking for essentially ignoring or
disregarding any information that disproves your believe. According to CIA.gov it states that
Cognitive biases are mental errors caused by our simplified information processing strategies. It
is important to distinguish cognitive biases from other forms of bias, such as cultural bias,
organizational bias, or bias that results from one s own self interest. (CIA.gov, 2012) another
way to look at cognitive biases is that it is a subconscious decision made on a certain issue. I feel
that the best way for intelligence analyst to reduce or overcome the thought of cognitive biases
would be to always look at the different perspectives to an occurrence before judging it too greatly.

Analysis Of Nighthawks By Edward Hopper
Nighthawks by Edward Hopper is one of my all time favorite paintings, and has been a painting I
have enjoyed researching throughout my life because of how much I resonate with this painting.
This is an astonishing painting, not only in the sense of it being beautiful art, but because this is
a piece that is so significant and loved by so many people around the world. I would say that even
if you have not ever seen the original painting, you have probably seen it reproduced in different
ways in many different places.
The world is bursting with all kinds of versions of this painting. All of these tributes are made
because of how much this painting has resonated with the people who have seen it. The beautiful
composition and the many well used elements in this painting have always intrigued and interested
me. I think that Hopper created a piece that can truly resonate with so many different people.
Edward Hopper expressed his love for art early in his life and was determined to make something
out of himself in the field of art:
Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York, a town located on the west side of the Hudson
River, to a middle class family that encouraged his artistic abilities. After graduating from high
school, he studied briefly at the Correspondence School of Illustrating in New York City(1899
1900), and then he enrolled in classes at the New York School of Art (1900 1906). In his shift from
illustration to the fine arts, he studied with William Merritt Chase, a

Handmaids Tale
How is Gilead presented as a place of power and control in the opening chapters of The
Handmaid s Tale? The Republic of Gilead is the fictional country which Margaret Atwood chose
as the setting for her dystopian novel, The Handmaid s Tale. We can infer from the first chapter
that Gilead is within the borders of the USA from the fact that old blankets still said US: this
hints that some sort of major catastrophe has occurred before the time of the novel to change this.
The first few chapters suggest a lot about the setting, and also how the transition of the country
from being the United States of America to the Republic of Gilead may not have been a
particularly positive one. The novel of The Handmaid s Tale is based on the... Show more content

The different uniforms worn within Gilead are another example of the state using the power
they have to control their citizens. All women in the Republic are defined by the colour of their
uniforms. These uniforms remove all individuality from particularly the submissive women, as
well as camouflaging all signs of shape and figure. Gilead sees women s sexuality as dangerous,
which is why the uniforms they have prescribed are so concealing and unflattering. When Offred
walks by the young Guardians, she moves her hips when she senses them watching her, and then
states her hope that they get hard as a result of her doing this. This shows how she feels that her
ability to inspire sexual attraction, despite her uniform is the only power she herself retains.
Fear is obviously used in Gilead as the main form of control, made clear by the fact that there are
men with machine guns in the pillboxes on either side of road this indicates how strict the rules
within the country are, and how severe the consequences are if you break them. The Guardians
sexual desire is controlled by the idea of the floodlights going on, the rifle shots which illustrates
the extent of the power the state has over them they have not yet earned the right to a women,
therefore would be totally sex starved as masturbation is a sin and porn is forbidden. The only

  • 2. The Shadow Of The Crescent Moon By Fatima Bhutto The shadow of the crescent moon is a debut novel of Fatima Bhutto published by penguin publications in 2013. Fatima Bhutto was born in Kabul, grew up in Damascus, and lives in Karachi. She is a member of one of the most famous families in Pakistan, Bhutto family a family that has produced two prime ministers, her aunt Benazir Bhutto and her grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. In her debut novel she talks about Pakistan s socio political issues. She doesn t only talk about the politics but has much more to tell about the families relationships and all that stuff we are involved in. Mainly novel highlights the issues like: war on terror its effects, Sunni s violence over Shia muslims the insurgency of tribal men. The plot is not structured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pakistan is a country that demands a sacrifice from its people. ... And I don t know if that s specific to Pakistan. I think any violent place demands a certain amount of sacrifice from its people. (Fatima Bhutto) Bhutto s novel is not just a portrait of Pakistan s dark days wrought by fundamentalism war on terror but it also serves as a window of Pakistan s bright side. In the scenes set in markets, bazaars, dining tables funerals we glimpse the Pakistani culture so vividly especially of Pakistani foods that we re compelled to admire Bhutto s affectionate depiction of her homeland. Moreover her use of Pashto Urdu words in novel shows her understanding affection with all the regions. The Shadow of the Crescent Moon is a disturbing but very readable book that tells the story of Kings (military political officials) Fakirs (people of FATA). Love hates, sincerity betrayal, loyalty treachery, bloodshed peace, are at the heart of this very book. Though this is the imperfect but a worth reading book which I highly recommend, because give the actual situation of the FATA, is a very daring work. And probably, only someone coming from the Bhutto dynasty can afford to write about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nietzsche s Genealogy Of Morals During the late 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche examined the history of morals in his Genealogy of Morals. In his work, Nietzsche reveals the origin of morality, and he goes further to tear down the basis of Christianity and Kant s Moral Law to show that there is a plurality of conflicting morals in society. Max Weber, who was a philosopher greatly influenced by Nietzsche, writes further on the plurality declaring that there is a polytheism that is the result of many conflicting values. Weber concludes that there is no science of ethics after Nietzsche, so there is no way to determine the correct value system. There is currently polytheism and a plurality of values that will not be resolved because all values are valid despite them conflicting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this new polytheism, conflict rages between different gods, and it will go on for all time. It is as it was in antiquity before the world had been divested of the magic of its gods and demons, only in a different sense (Science as a Vocation p. 23). The contemporary polytheism is similar to the ancient one in that it consists of conflict; however, in neo polytheism, the gods are impersonal forces. There is no magic or personal gods in this new system. There is just conflicting value systems where each value system is equally valid. This is a difficult reality for people to digest due to the blinding strength the Christian church has on people. Christianity led people to believe that there was only one way to live. Any other value system was wrong in the eyes of Christians. People will become more aware that there is a plurality of value systems, and that each set of values can be considered just as valid as the next: The destiny of our culture, however, is that we shall once again become more clearly conscious of this situation after a millennium in which our allegedly or supposedly exclusive reliance on the glorious pathos of the Christian ethic had blinded us to it (Science as a Vocation p. 24). People will learn to move away from the ethics laid forth by Christianity and, in the face of polytheism, make their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rabindranath Tagore Poem Rabindranath Tagore (1861 1941) was the youngest son of Debendranath Tagore. Tagore had early success as a writer in his native Bengal. With his translations of some of his poems he became rapidly known in the West. In fact his fame attained a luminous height, taking him across continents on lecture tours and tours of friendship. For the world he became the voice of India s spiritual heritage and for India, especially for Bengal, he became a great living institution. Although Tagore wrote successfully in all literary genres, he was first of all a poet. Among his fifty and odd volumes of poetry are Manasi (1890) , Sonar Tari (1894) , Gitanjali (1910) , and many more .Gitanjali , Song Offerings (1912), the most acclaimed of them, contains poems from other works besides its namesake. It suggests the empty and destitute life of a man. Through this symbol the poet means to suggest that life without the grace of God is as worthless as a pitcher without water. The day is no more; the shadow is upon the earth. It is time that I go to the stream to fill my pitcher. Here, the poet is eager to fill the empty pitcher with virtuous activities. The poet is always afraid that one day when terrible Death knocks at his door, he will be able to welcome the guest with the full vessel. Rabindrnath Tagore certainly is one of the greatest poets of the world. His achievement as a poet rests mainly on his English Gitanjali. Gitanjali is a proof of Tagore s towering genius and marvellous artistic powers. Tagore s Gitanjali shows apart from many other things, a fine use of symbolism which is a blend of mysticism and music, religion and poetry. Due to pedestrian complaints, the universityhas directed their attention Woody Hayes Drive and Olentangy River Road. The team has been appointed to approach this issue using a spot speed method. The Decriminalization Of Marijuana In Canada Decriminalization of Marijuana Tim Steer October 28, 2016 Decriminalization of Marijuana There has been talk about the decriminalization of marijuana for many years, and it is a very controversial subject. The Liberal government stated in its platform that it intended to decriminalize marijuana if elected and since being elected, they have promised to decriminalize it by April 2017. A 2012 poll by Angus Reid showed that 57% of Canadians are in favor of legalizing marijuana (MacLean s 2013). I wouldn t be wrong if I say all of you, once in your lives have tried to solve it, and I do know that you all tried to answer questions you didn t know. What if I said the secret of the future is in a Rubiks Cube? Since the beginning of humanity people ask themselves Where did I came from? , What am I doing where? and Where am I going? and after all of these years we still did not know, or we only thingwe don`t know. Somethings are just so complex that we stop trying to achieve when they actually could be easier than you think. Trying something new or unknown to us is always a difficult task. Now, try to imagine this cube as the Unknown. You don t know how to solve it, you don`t know how it works, but someway, if you view it from a different angle, you can find its pattern and give it a meaning. Put it in a box . When dealing with faceless things, always imagine them as things you already know and try to fit them in a box you already have. Keep in mind that things usually are much easier than they seem and giving up should always be the last circumstance. Replace the fear of the unknown with curiosity. It is part of the process of evolution facing the faceless, and if you don t take risks you will never find yourself, or find meanings for your life. I am not saying that it is easy, but it is necessary. Get out of the box and try new things. The military group removed the political aspects from the state by eliminating Marxism. The government held back and controlled the population in order to carry out programmes of economic growth. Although copper remained nationalised, many state owned industries were sold and land returned to foreign owners (Hecht, 1999). The governmentwas first confronted with inflation. In result Pinochet came up with a method known as shock treatment designed to quickly put a stop to inflation. The government dramatically increased the price of goods and drastically cut public spending; inflation fell from 375% in 1975 to 9.9% in 1982 (Pinochet, 1973). At the ... Whereas under Allende the majority of the population, were beginning to experience a new social economic order where the lives for ordinary people were improving. The measures of Pinochet s economic success are presented to us via higher GDP and decreased inflation, which tells us nothing about non economic factors such as literacy rate, life expectancy or public health. Higher GDP does not mean an increase of living standards and quality of life; therefore policies aimed at maximising GDP are not pertinent . Using ambiguous terms such as political stability and economic improvement it can be acknowledged that Pinochet brought about some improvements. However, the repression and human rights violations, in my opinion reveal that any successes are ineffective, as they have no real positive impact on the lives of the majority. Chile is now being described as the most unequal country. The Pinochet government has made the country more unstable, between those who justify the dictatorship and those who trust in ... Besides this, another problem of Tata Group is the high involvement of Ratan Tata, who is the chief steward of the group of nine senior executives sitting on the boards of the Tata companies, in both the negotiations of major deals and the details of his auto making, telecom or steel businesses (Luthans and Doh 2009). The next challenge for Tata is on how to absorb the struggling Corus mills. Other challenges for the future include deciding on which businesses to spin off and which to pursue, what will happen to the conglomerate during an economy slow down. The most challenge issue for Tata Group perhaps would be to fill the void left behind by the energetic and visionary Mr Ratan Tata Chairman of the Tata Group, when he retire (Koontz and Weihrich 2010). 3. • 11. Speech On Epic Failure Epic Failure: The Road to Success is Paved with the Stones of Failure. Thomas Edison Said, Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. I guess it s a good thing Nikola Tesla did not give up or we would not have AC power. Failure is a fact of life and the lessons learned by failure cannot be taught in any college. The only true failure is the act of giving up. Today I will talk about one of my most epic fails in my real estate business. There are four basic steps to my business plan. They are research, purchase, rehab, and rent. My very first acquisition I had not quite refined my plan and it ended in failure. The remarkable thing is that it was my first lesson in the business. These lessons come often and I continue to recognize them in greater frequency. The first step in my business plan is to find a property in a given area that is destressed and may be for sale. This property may be a foreclosure or it may be owned by a bank. One of the ways to spot a potential property is to drive by the nationhood that you want to purchase property and look for unkept lawns. If the grass is extremely tall this is a good indicator that the property may be in trouble. Once I find a property I have a 1.3 percent rule. The rule is 1.3 percent of the total investment should cover the rent. For example, for a total investment of $100,00.00 I should expect the rent to be around $1300.00 per month. If the neighborhood average rent is below that amount I will not buy the property. Once the initial assessment is done and it meets the 1.3% rule I do thorough inspection of the property to minimize the risk of exceeding the 1.3 percent. One of the main issues I look for is termite damage to the support beams under the house. The next step after all the research is done is to purchase the house. This process can be as daunting as the research. If the property is bank owned or in some sort of foreclosure state ther are some pitfalls to look out for. One of the biggest one is an unclean or unclear title. The property could have many different types of leans against if before it is considered clean. After purchasing the property, the next step is renovation. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This should lead to empathy and create institutions that rehabilitate drug addicts rather than incarcerate them. The factors that deem this progress a success are the systematic, institutional and personal problems that told listeners about. We talked about the systematic problems that stemmed from Richard Nixon s War on Drugs and how African Americans were disproportionately targeted. It was a movement by the people to curb the power of special interest. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was captured was Mr. John Smith. While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a surge of Native Americans. Occupational therapy enhances everyday experiences for a diverse group of individuals ranging from infants to the elderly, including those with cognitive, developmental, mental, and physical disabilities. I am excited to pursue a career in occupational therapybecause I realized at a young age that occupational therapists understood my younger sister with Down syndrome in the same way that I did. They saw her first as a person with many strengths and abilities that they worked to build upon. OTs acknowledged her ideas and how she enjoyed playing, which they used as a basis for creating meaningful therapeutic activities. I observed OTs adapt the environment within my home to fit the wants and needs of my sister while understanding and developing her as a whole person throughout each therapy session. OTs tremendously impacted my sister s life by helping her with activities of daily living from infancy to young adulthood, such as learning to swallow, gripping a spoon, or figuring out modification strategies for getting dressed. For these reasons along with the foundation of a holistic approach to therapy, occupational therapists tend to be my favorite healthcare professionals involved in my sister s care. • 29. The Atmosphere and The Ozone Layer The atmosphere is an amazing creation. It contains many things that help make this world a place where we can live. The atmosphere contains ozone. That helps protect our skin from harmful sun rays. Many layers make up our atmosphere. There are five main layers, the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and lastly the exosphere. Each layer has a different purpose. Clouds are located in the atmosphereand are a big part of the water cycle. There are different types of clouds and they all have different effects. Conduction and convection also play a big part in how we live our lives today. Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Without ozone, our skin would burn from the suns radiation. Ozone can be either good or bad for your health. It depends on the location of it in the atmosphere. It can also be bad for the environment. When ozone is near the ground it is considered very dangerous. During the hot summer months ozone levels should be monitored. In the summer, more harmful ozone concentrations are in the air we use. Inhaling ozone can be very dangerous to our health. It can cause a number of health problems. Scientists are figuring out ways to help keep the air clean and people and the environment healthy. (1) There are many different layers in the atmosphere, five actually. Like the previous pet names analyzed, these bird metaphors also concentrate the senses of small size, youth, domesticity and entertainment. In Hindi Urdu, the very word bird is defined as a girl or a young woman(Webster). The metaphor is usually charged with affective connotations, being commonly used as a term of endearment. This positive evaluation appears to have its roots in the amorous disposition of the animalas well as in the folk tradition that associates birds with symbols of love (cf Talebinejad Dastejerdi, 2005). The repertoire of metaphors designating women as pets reveals a clear imbalance in favor of terms of abuse. Indeed, with the exception of pet, bird and in certain contexts billi (kitten), all the aforementioned metaphors analyzed convey negative evaluations. Moreover, interestingly, even within the favorable animal terms, only kitten/gatita is restricted to females, since bird and pet are ambisexual in nature. In the conceptualization of women as pets, youth and small size appear to play a determinant role in the encoding of the metaphor, implying immaturity (the lack of age involves inexperience) and helplessness (unlike other animals, pets need to be looked after by people). Furthermore, the physical surroundings of pets, whose whole life spins around the house, might imply the idea of domesticity. This confinement to the domestic arena is particularly remarkable in the case of bird names, since birds are kept in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emergency Preparedness, Response And Recovery Programmes 1.Introduction In the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting tsunami, over 4000 scientists, government officials, NGOs and UN representatives met in Kobe, Japan to address one of the most important tests the world has to face: disaster risk reduction (DRR). The product of the conference was the 10 year Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015. Endorsed by 168 countries, the document promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and planning, building resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the implementation of emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in giving greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of countries reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in 2009 and over 100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see the increase of interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR, thanks in no small part to the Framework. There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards, including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of National Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam International, 2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen from 63 to 192, indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo Framework for Action. Diphtheria has declined for over the past 100 years. Diphtheria is in coalition with tetanus and pertussis. For children under the age of eight, a combined vaccine of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis(Tdap) is given together ( Henri 2012). History: Diphtheria has been found as early as 1613 in Spain, and epidemics can still break out today. The diphtheria vaccine was created in the 1920 s, but in 2011, 4,887 cases of diphtheria were recorded (Henri, 2012). 10 percent of all children are vaccinated for diphtheria (Chen, 1985). Type of diseases: Diphtheria consists of a single protein with a disulfide bond linking two fragments (Henri, 2012). There are two types of diphtheria: clinical diphtheria and respiratory. Classical respiratory diphtheria is characterized by the formation of a gray white pseudomembrane in the throat that is firmly adherent (Wagner, 2012). Clinical diphtheria is caused by toxin producing corynebacteria. Diphtheria is related to three species Corynebacterium diphtheriae, C. ulcerans, and C. Pseudotuberculosis. Corynebacterium diphtheriae is common of potentially species and is associated with epidemic diphtheria and person to person transmission. The selling fetal tissue for profit is an illegal activity in the United States therefore the topic alone became of interest to the public. Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession cannot possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to tyranny and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our government and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness. Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). Nuclear Fission is the main process by which humans are able to generate energy from the nucleus of atoms. In order to discuss the nuclear fission process the role of the neutron must be examined. The collision of a neutron in motion with a fissionable nucleus an essential pre condition that creates the nuclear fission process. In order for fission to occur a neutron of the requisite energy must collide into, and merge with a fissionable nucleus to create a new compound nucleus. The formation of the new compound nucleus, in the case of Uranium 238, can be described by the following nuclear reaction: U 238 + n U 239. In situations where nuclear fission successfully occurs new nuclei are created from the remnants of the old nuclei. The velocity or energy of the colliding neutron is a significant factor in the fission process. Nuclear fission can occur after a heavy nuclei captures a neutron. • 42. Stewardship In The Bible There will be eternal reward and consequences beyond residency in heaven. The judgment time is called the Bema Seat of Christ or judgment seat of Christ. That day of reckoning is described in the following three passages: 1 Corinthians 3:12 15, 2 Corinthians 5:10, and Romans 14:10 12. These passages include a reckoning of more than just financial issues. The above truth is a sobering fact of Scripture. If Millennials were to internalize these values, it would create a sense of careful calculations in all matters of life. After determining that God owns all things and that Christians are accountable to God, it is important to clarify how the word steward is used in the Bible. In biblical times a steward was a trusted person given responsibility for someone else s possessions which may include care for livestock, immediate family members, or servants. , A steward s duty was to manage on behalf of the master with the purpose to increase the master s resources or influence. Finally, it implied some form of judgment or reckoning to reward the steward if he was faithful in the management of the entrusted resources. Often, stewardship is thought of only in terms of finances, but the Bible teaches that stewardship is a far greater concept, involving how we respond with all of our life. For the purposes of this dissertation topic, the Project Director acknowledges stewardship includes more than finances but will focus predominantly on financial stewardship. If the project ... The different uniforms worn within Gilead are another example of the state using the power they have to control their citizens. All women in the Republic are defined by the colour of their uniforms. These uniforms remove all individuality from particularly the submissive women, as well as camouflaging all signs of shape and figure. Gilead sees women s sexuality as dangerous, which is why the uniforms they have prescribed are so concealing and unflattering. This shows how she feels that her ability to inspire sexual attraction, despite her uniform is the only power she herself retains. Fear is obviously used in Gilead as the main form of control, made clear by the fact that there are men with machine guns in the pillboxes on either side of road this indicates how strict the rules within the country are, and how severe the consequences are if you break them. The Guardians sexual desire is controlled by the idea of the floodlights going on, the rifle shots which illustrates the extent of the power the state has over them they have not yet earned the right to a women, therefore would be totally sex starved as masturbation is a sin and porn is forbidden.
