University English Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of a "University English Essay" can be a challenging endeavor,
laden with a myriad of complexities. The task demands not only a comprehensive understanding
of the English language but also a keen ability to engage in critical analysis, articulate thoughts
coherently, and adhere to the conventions of academic writing.
One of the primary challenges is the need for extensive research to gather relevant information
and support one's arguments. This involves delving into scholarly articles, books, and other
academic sources to ensure the essay is well-informed and intellectually sound. Additionally,
synthesizing this information and presenting it in a cohesive manner can be daunting, requiring a
high level of organizational skills.
Furthermore, the task entails a mastery of the nuances of formal writing, including proper
grammar, punctuation, and citation styles. The pressure to adhere to these conventions while
simultaneously expressing original ideas can create a delicate balancing act for the writer.
Meeting the expectations of academic excellence adds an extra layer of difficulty, as the essay
must demonstrate a depth of understanding and a capacity for critical thinking.
The process of revision and refinement is another arduous aspect of essay writing. It involves
scrutinizing each sentence for clarity, coherence, and relevance. Revisiting and restructuring the
essay is often necessary to ensure a seamless flow of ideas and a persuasive argument. This
iterative process demands patience and a commitment to continuous improvement.
In conclusion, tackling a "University English Essay" requires more than just proficiency in the
language; it demands research skills, critical thinking abilities, and a dedication to precision in
expression. As writers navigate through the intricacies of creating a compelling piece, they are

Essay on Names in Song of Solomon
The Importance of Names in Song of Solomon
Abstract: In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, names have great implication.
Language is extremely personal and deeply rooted in culture. Names are an integral
part of language, and they help to establish identity, define personality, and show
ownership through formal and informal usage.
Tis but thy name that is my enemy; / Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. / What
s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, / Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
/ Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! / What s in a name? that which we call
a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet; / So Romeo would, were he not
Romeo call d, / Retain that dear perfection which he owes / ... Show more content on

The concept of naming in Song of Solomon was first introduced through a local road
known as Not Doctor Street. The street s title was commonplace after years of
colloquial reference from locals, but never truly official:
Town maps registered the street as Mains Avenue, but the only colored doctor in
the city had lived and died on that street, and when he moved there in 1866 his
patients took to calling the street, which none of them lived on or near, Doctor
Street. Later, when other Negroes moved there, and when the postal service
became a popular means of transferring messages among them, envelopes from
Louisiana, Virginia, Alabama and Georgia began to arrive addressed to people on
Doctor Street. The post office workers returned these envelopes or passed them on
to the Dead Letter Office. Then in 1918, when colored men were being drafted, a
few gave their address at the recruitment office as Doctor Street. In that way, the
name acquired a quasi official status. (4)
However, the status did not last long because city legislators disapproved and
posted numerous bulletins in local establishments stating that the road, had always
and would always be known as Mains Avenue and not Doctor Street (4). Locals
were then able to both obey the local ordindances and satisfy their interests by
referring to the road as Not Doctor Street. The residents were able to take some
control of the area s situation by
Christmas Descriptive Writing
On that momentous Christmas Eve of 2013, daubs of ashen grays, splattered
specks of lapis, careless streaks of pale lavender, and muted, chalky whites were
smeared across the blank canvas sky, barely concealing the cold, distant stars. The
sliver of the moon that was shaped as though it were a narrow, shining claw, was
tied to the edge of a low hanging cloud with a thin, wisp of a string. Millions of the
beautiful feathery, ice crystals were brutally thrown toward the Earth, onto the
frosted, dead grass, where they joined their companions in a heap of broken, mangled
snowflakes. For the ecclesiastical holiday, scintillating lights were intertwined with
newly bought, plastic reindeer scattered across the yard, along with a snowman with
a crooked,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I choked on my warm drink, and my eyes widened significantly. You weren t
suppose to leave for another eleven months! I screeched, the edges of my vision
starting to blur from tears. I ve known you for five years. I had said, as quiet as she.
With a whimper, I examined my festive knee high socks and took another mouthful
of drink. Chloe fiddled with the edge of her caramel, shoulder length hair and had
given me a lifeless, emerald green stare. I have a gift for you! She then exclaimed,
her eyes suddenly brightening as though remembering something important. Here!
She handed me a rectangular object ingeniously wrapped, with two red ribbons
interlaced to one another into my hands. Carefully, I had untied the bow, and tore
off the wrapping paper. In the container was a thick book, encased in a dark leather
binding. Chloe stood behind me. With caution, I opened the book and inside was
an array of pictures each with captions. In a few of the plastic sleeves, various
objects, sometimes a handful of Hilton Head Island sand, or a chain with two silver
hearts linked together. I gave her a sheepish
Thomas More Moral Dilemmas
Thomas More has the moral dilemma to speak against the supremacy of the King
Henry VIII or stay silent and let things happen. He chooses staying silent to find a
way to stop him, but is this a moral decision to follow? Even if he recognizes that
silence never helps, he doesn t speak against. I think this is a moral conflict. I posit
that the conflict Thomas Moreconfronted in the history resonates with many present
day situations.
In my view, Thomas More s professional life, which is characterized most often by
his refusal to endorse the objectives of King Henry VIII, exemplifies the recurrent
conflict between the head of the Congress personal beliefs and the expectations of the
sovereign. Thomas More s moral dilemma of conscious that resulted ... Show more

Accept it from me, Alice, that in silence is my safety under the law ... (Bolt, 95)
Like Thomas More s dilemma of conscience, the conflict of values I confronted
carries life threatening consequences as well as the potential impact on my career
factored heavily in my decision making.
As Thomas More faced the conflict speaking against the king or staying silent, I
will face the situation where I should definitely speak against the president in the
future. I am the head of the Congress and the closest person the president and the
prime minister. After the president s party got elected 12 years ago and he became
the prime minister. We had mutual relationship, and I got elected for the Congress,
and became the head of the Congress in 5 years. I have been the head of the
Congress since then, but after 13 years the prime minister became the president.
Right now he is the president and he wants to change the way of governing the
country. Right now we have democracy, but he wants a Democratic Republic to do
what he wants. Becoming the prime minister and the president of the country made
him greed and he wants more. Normally he shouldn t have stayed more than 5 years,
but it s been 13 years. His greed started worry

The National Science Foundation goes through the same definition as The University
of Colorado Denver by stating research misconduct includes falsification, fabrication
and plagiarism when proposing, performing, reviewing or reporting any research
funded by the NSF. Also, it states research misconduct does not include honest error
of differences in opinion.
2.What is one key difference between the policies?
A very important key difference between these two definitions of research misconduct
is the National Science Foundation never mentions anything about protecting
whistleblowers from retaliation.
3.Do you feel this difference is important? Why or why not?
Yes, fell like this is a very important difference, because protecting whistleblowers
should be explicitly mentioned in the definition of research misconduct. Protecting
retaliation against a whistleblower confirms researchers are being kept honest and
validates research is being done ethically. If protection is not provided for
whistleblowers, then individuals who are witnessing research misconduct will be less
likely to report an incidence in fear of retaliation. I do not think properly defining
research misconduct can be possible without including provisions to protect
individuals who are reporting these acts of falsification, fabrication and
The Motivations And Satisfaction Of Lic Students Essay
To investigate the motivations and satisfaction of LIC students when studying in the
UK
Introduction
There is a prevalent trend of students going abroad for further study in the UK. In
fact, the UK has become the second most common option for overseas students to
study which is just behind the United Stateпј€
King et al., 2010). According to the
data from UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) (2015), 19 percent
of the students in the UK are from abroad. Studies have shown that oversea study
experience can help students improve English proficiency, gain cultural experience,
enhance individual competency, construct self consciousness and notional
consciousness, embrace diversity, and promote the sense of responsibility (Rhodes et
al., 2012).
As there are many benefits of overseas study, it is significant for the UK government
and universities to understand the motivations of international students when they
decide to study in the UK as well as the degree of satisfaction of their learning
experience, so that they are able to realize their attractions and weaknesses. In
particular, for Liverpool International College, this research will be able to give the
college managers insight into the factors appealing to oversea students and then
optimize its performance. For students, it can help them prepare before departing
from their origin countries and adapt quickly to the UK courses.
The objectives of this research are:
To determine the motivations of LIC students

The Crooked Line Essay
Ismat Chughtai s The Crooked Line reads like a classic Bildungsroman in many
ways. It is the story of a child born in an environment which is fairly hostile who
grows up and is able to move away from this hostile environment on a journey of self
discovery. This basic structure is, however, where the similarity ends. A
Bildungsroman is a novelof development of the central protagonist from birth to a
position of stability within the social sphere. This normative form functions as a basis
for Ismat Chughtais novel The Crooked Line but instead of being the pattern
followed, it is the path not taken. The normative Bildungsroman is that against which
this novel rebels and tells the story of a protagonist who follows a trajectory which is
individualistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it avows to depict reality and change is a fundamental feature of reality, it is
imperative that the realist novel changes constantly as well. This implies that the
structural foundation of a Bildungsroman would also have to be modified in order to
make it contemporary and also realist. The nature of this change, especially in the
European context is obvious in terms of the transformation of the novel from
depicting stability into a genre which hinges on the inherent instability of a society. In
his essay on this topic, Franco Moretti in his introduction to The Way of the World
argues that the new novel is the transformative novel. In this, he uses the model of the
novel of adultery in which the growth of a character is located in the sphere of
adultery and thereby is essentially an unstable stability. This instability forms the
foundation of the novel form in one more significant aspect; one which is critical
for Chughtai s Shaman as well. Youth is important for the central protagonist
because it is the site of potential which is hitherto untapped. This potential
encapsulates the heroic potential of the protagonist and manifests itself in the
larger system of causality in the text. The trajectory which the central protagonist
will choose to follow is begun in a young age. The decisions of the character work
as milestones against which one may measure the success or the degree of closure
provided by the ending. However, as Moretti further elaborates, this Bildungsroman
encapsulates within it another paradox; the individual s growth cannot be parallel
to societal growth as the social sphere exists in order to suppress the individual.
This implies that any authentic Bildungsroman hinges on the discovery of a stable
and viable alternative. That the protagonist will in some way find a balance
between the self and the world and therefore s/he will be able to develop personally
as well as socially. This developmental

Rituals or cults are part of the average s man or woman s everyday life. From
following a religion and practicing its ceremonies, to performing tasks in order to
belong to a certain crowd, people are constantly involving themselves in cult like
activities and the rituals that come attached to them. Avant garde filmmaker Kenneth
Anger in his films Inauguration of The Pleasure Dome and Scorpio Rising does not
only highlight some of these cult rituals, but also induces the viewer to become part
of them. On one hand, Scorpio Rising depicts an actual ritualby creating the portrait
of the leader of a motorcycle gangwho is part of a sacrifice while Inauguration of The
Pleasure Dome does not only suggest a religious ritual practice, but also creates a
trance state for the viewer allowing them to be part of the ritual. Both films use
similar tools to achieve the ritualistic reference. They both do it through alluring set
design and costumes, reference to religious acts, and through repetitive and detailed
narrative schemes.
The opening scene of Inauguration Of The Pleasure Dome consists of a colorful
sequence in which an unusual man is putting gold rings on his fingers and diamond
necklaces down his throat. The camera follows this extravagant man down bright
orange corridors until he reaches a mirror his reflection shows a demon figure that
opens the gate to the following sequence. For the following thirty minutes the visuals

How The Mass And Force Affect The Acceleration Of An
Object
Scientific Report | Newton s Second Law
Title:How the mass and force affect the acceleration of an object.
Aim:To test Newton s seconds law if whether changing the mass or the force affects
the acceleration of an object or a trolley in this case to increase or decrease.
Introduction: Newton s laws of motion are three physical laws that describe the
connection between a body and the different forces acting upon it, as well as its
motion in response to those forces. Isaac Newton developed Galileo s ideas further
and developed three law of motions. Newton s First Law of Motion states that an
object at rest with remain this way unless if it affected by a force. Also if an object
that is moving will continue at the same speed as well as the same direction until
an unbalanced force acts upon it. An example of unbalance force is when a scooter
is being driven, the friction and air resistance is going at it, the weight of the
scooter is keeping the weight on the ground, the reaction force is going up and the
thrust of the scooter going forward. The force s tendency to resist any change in
motion is called an object s inertia. Newton s Second Law of Motion states that an
object will keep on accelerating in the direction of an unbalance force acting upon it.
The mass of the object and the size of the force acting depends upon the size of the
acceleration., F_net=m x a, is the formula to work out the total amount of force acting
upon an object. This formula can be
A Research Into The Reform Of Education
Through my research into the reform of education, I have had my eyes open to
some of the most terrifying and most positive potential change that my future may
hold. With my upbringing, I was taught in some of the best schools in St. Tammany
Parish. The teachers were always there for you and your needs, the facilities were
kept clean and safe, and the neighborhood I grew up in was actually pretty good. I
have seen the schoolsystem through the eyes of a student, but now I am beginning to
look at it as a future educator. Michelle Rhee is the Chancellor for Washington s
District of Columbia, and her task was to turn the school system on its head to
improve student achievement. She has several years experience in dealing with the
school system in its entirety, many do not believe in her methods. One person that is
completely against her is Diane Ravitch, a woman who has served as the United
States Assistant Secretary of Educationin her past, and is currently working as a
research professor at New York University s Steinhardt School of Culture,
Education, and Human Development. Ravitch has also been working as a historian
of education and an educational policy analyst. I believe it is safe to say that she
knows a thing or two about education in our country. The main question is, where
do we begin to reform our poorly organized school system and how do teacher s
statuses play a role in the middle? First off, at the beginning of Rhee s changing of
the system, many

The Problems Of Louisiana s Judicial System Towards Black Men Louisiana is the
world s prison capital. In a news report by The Times Picayune, reporter Cindy

U.S. counterparts. Louisiana s incarceration rate is nearly five times Iran s, 13
times China s and 20 times Germany s. She then goes on to talk about the black
men of Louisiana stating Among black men from New Orleans, one in 14 is behind
bars; one in seven is either in prison, on parole or on probation . These numbers are
shocking. There has to be a reason why there is a much higher rate of African
Americanmen that are imprisoned, surely they are not the only ones committing
crimes. Louisiana s Judicial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Search and seizure is one of the tactics used in the War on Drugs. This happens
when police target people who look like they can be causing trouble on the streets,
approach them and then proceed to ask for consent to search their bags that they
are carrying. These police officers intentionally avoid letting these civilians know
that they have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions at all. Never
do the officers inform the person that they are free to remain silent or refuse to
answer questions.(Alexander) Judicial systems were aware that this tactic will
work because of the fact that most of the black men being accused do not have the
proper education and therefore do not know their rights, which then leads to them
complying to the officer and letting them search them whether they actually have
drugs on them or not. Like search and seizures tactics, pretext stops are another
way that the police used to arrest suspicious men who might be doing criminal
activities. These stops were to be able to stop someone on a minor mistake, such as
not signaling when they are turning and use this excuse to search them for drugs, in
hopes that they might get lucky and actually find something.(Alexander) These
police officers stop these men because they look as if they could possibly be
engaging in criminal activity, or in other words because they are black. In Louisiana,
though black men have this right to say No to search and seizures and pretext stops
they usually comply and let the officer search them. In the New Jim Crow, Alexander
states People are easily intimidated when the police confront them, hands on their
revolvers, and most have no idea the question can be answered

These booklets regarding the employment act are available in different languages,

Public endorsement of the exploitation of foreign workers seems to be allow for
businesses and ports in Singapore to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a

The restrictive work permit system, which ties foreign workers to a single

Analysis Of The Movie The Play Guy
The first shot in the sequence is when Guy has just finished a set against his
opposition and takes a sip of water. Guy looks up the official time. This scene has an
emphasis on time. Guy is concerned and held up by his tennis match, while Bruno
has to reach for the lighter in the grate. The two characters who seem to be very
methodical in their normal actions are now acting on instinct. The tennisannouncer
points out that this is a game that Guy has never played and is known for doing
slow play. The audience knows about how Bruno acts methodically by his calm
demeanor during the carnival murder scene and his nonchalant attitude when
dealing with Guy s acquaintances. This is a parallel between the two characters
that Hitchcock makes. Showing that just because Guy is a civilised man and
aspiring politician doesn t mean he isn t capable of murder just like Bruno. This
idea of Guy killing is plausible throughout the whole movie and adds to the suspense
of the film. The audience could want this from either morbid curiosity or maybe to
humanize Bruno more, honestly there are endless reasons. The tennis match itself,
is also a parallel between Guy and Bruno with sport being a big theme in their
relationship. Bruno makes a deal with Guy to exchange murder. This exchange when
offered kind of seems like a sort of sports proposition. With both of them gambling
their lives and the obvious idea of killing a human is ultimate game. They both go
back and forth in their interactions.

Persuasive Essay On Marriage
A commitment between a man and a woman begins with the vows at the altar,
whether that be handmade vows or vows created by the church. Growing in the
marriage and developing together can be an insurmountable challenge. By definition,
marriage is an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is affected;
especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities. (Webster s
Dictionary) For any man or woman together in a marriage, certain sacrifices have to
be valued and taken into consideration. The two need to be in agreement within love
equality, trust, loyalty, communication and the ability to compromise. In the United

understanding to stay married.

era to allow mass communication, quickly, and long distant. Changing the way the

would write letters and rely on messengers to deliver their letters. Often letters would
be sent via boats across the ocean taking days to receive. Samuel Morse was quoted I

life and where you will end up if you control you. The reasons I like the book

earth to trap greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, which are needed in order for
the earth to stay warm and avoid extremes; however, it has never resulted in year

because an engineer must report on the progress made so they can remember their
work. Here is what the Manual for technical report writing has to say on the content
of a report, A technical report generally contains a clear outline of the problem,
mathematical equations, drawings, charts, tables and graphs (2). Reports are
important in the aerospacefield because when a new advancement in technology is
found other engineers need to know the type of advancement to make their work
easier. This goes into the next part of writing in aerospace engineering, that being
information request. Here is what Marco Aurisicchio has to say about information
request, During Product Development, engineeringdesigners raise several information
request that make them search through human and documentary sources. This paper
reports to characterize, in detail these request for designers working in a major
aerospace engineering company (Aurisicchio, 1). Information request are important
because one engineer will not know absolutely everything about airplanes; so in order
for them to get valuable information they will need to request it from another
engineer. This information can range from test results all the way to supplie list used
for the actual building
Confederation and Constitution
Articles of Confederation vs. Constitution
http://www.123helpme.com/search.asp?text=American+History http:/
/www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_history.html There were many
differences between the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. At the end of
the American Revolution the free states needed some sort of control that would
generate to a unified country. Issues arose such as: How should power be divided
between local and national governments? How should laws be made, and by whom?
Who should be authorized to govern those laws? How could the government be
designed to protect the unalienable individual rights? Their first attempt at solving
this issue was the Articles of Confederation, which was a failure for ... Show more

Usually they were states rights advocates, backcountry farmers, poor farmers, the ill
educated and illiterate, debtors, and paper money advocates. In general, the poorer
classes of society. Most of the Antifederalists thought that the Constitution required a
bill of rights. State governments already had bills of rights but the antifederalists
were afraid that they might be overridden by the Constitution. On the opposing side,
there were the Federalists. Federalists were supporters of the Constitution that desired
a strong central government. Federalists felt that the Articles of Confederation were
weak and ineffective. They felt that National government would protect the rights of
the people.
While their inexperienced ideas at creating a new republican government were
practiced, the articles proved to be very weak. George Washington called for a
convention in late May 1787; in order speak about the nation s political and
economical problems and revise the Articles. Delegates from eleven out of the
thirteen states attended this convention. They decided on a government consisting of
three branches: legislative (Congress), executive (the President), and judicial
(Supreme Court). These branches were under the checks and balances in order to
maintain balance in powers and to prevent tyranny in the country. Delegates believed
this separation of powers into three different branches would ensure that the
Importance Of Generalist Approach In Social Work
Applying the Generalist Practice Approach to Social Work with Child Advocacy
Centers The basic foundation of the generalist practice approach began in the early
1900 s. By the 1960 s, the generalist approach started evolving into the description
of individuals who had the abilities to work at different practice levels ranging
from individual to community (Schatz et al, 1990). In the mid 1970 s, the core
curriculum for the generalist practice social worker was generated. In 1987, Schatz
and Jenkins conducted a study and created a generalist practice model to help show
the connection between, basic generalist, advanced generalist and specialist practices
in social work (Schatz et al, 1990). The study also aided to define the differences...

An example of the specialist practice approach would be a licensed independent
clinical social worker (LICSW). He or she specializes in mental health and focuses
mainly on this aspect of the field. The LICSW uses the generalist practice approach
while practicing in their focused field. Today, the generalist practice approach and
specialist practice approach are the approaches used in the social work field
(Morales et al., 2015). Both of these approaches take a holistic approach to help the
client by using the client s strengths, competencies, and outside resources (Cody
Lehmann, 2008). Both generalists and specialists form a relationship with the
client that allows the client to become empowered. This empowerment permits the
client to take control of his or her situation as well as their success in overcoming
the issue at hand (Cody Lehmann, 2008). Social workers in both forms of practice
utilize the strengths perspective. This perspective uses the client s strengths in
order to come to a solution to the client s issues (Morales et al., 2008). Each
approach utilizes research based methods and looks for the best approach for each
individual at that time while applying the strengths perspective (Morales et al.,
2015). Now that both the specialist and generalist practice approaches have been
discussed, how does this apply in my current field of practice? Before we determine
this, we need to look at the history of the
Closed Adoption Research Paper
72 percent of adopted adolescents in the U.S. want to know why they are adopted,
65 percent want to meet their birth parents, and 94 percent want to know which
birth parent they look like. These are all statistics from a study done by the Search
Institute and they show how important it is for adoptees to know who their
biological parents are. This is a very debatable topic with the question of should
adoptees have the right to know who their biological parents are? Many people who
think that adoptees should not know their birth parents are the ones in favor of
closed adoptions. Closed adoptions refer to an adoptionprocess where there is no
interaction between birthmothers and prospective adoptive families. Also in closed

In multiple cases involving young teenagers, they talk about how finding their
birth parents helps them to know who they are. Even though many adoptees do not
want to find their birth parents because of they fear rejection, that could just show
their commitment to actually finding their birth parents. To start, three years ago,
Florence Ladden Fisher was in an automobile accident. Her last thought before the
crash, I am going to die and I do not know who I am. Mrs. Fisher, a wife and mother
now in her early 40 s, had spent almost 20 years searching for what she called her
true identity. She was an adopted child. She has found that most people, especially
adoptive parents cannot understand the compelling need for identity experienced
by many of the adopted children (Nemy). This was from the New York Times
article, Adopted Children Who Wonder What Was Mother Like? , and it shows
exactly how much finding your birth parents can impact your identity. Also, stories
like Tom McGee show some of the real reasons people try and find their birth
parents. Later in the same article about Carol Barbieri, it said, Adoptees like Tom
McGee of Oceanport said the fight to obtain access to their original birth records is
more about finding their identity knowing who they are and their medical history
than it is about reuniting with their biological family (Cervenka). So, Tom McGee

Compare and Contrast Tennyson s The Charge of the light brigade with Owen s
Dulce et Decorum est.
War, what does this word mean? The dictionary meaning of war is a conflict
between one or more nations. Many people think war is a way of solving futile
problems that rise between nations. The true meaning of war to me is the
destruction of entire civilisations and of humans, war takes in brave strong and
glorious men and women and spits them out as fragile haggard ruins of men and
women. The gruesome stomach churning images of people being blown up, arms
ripped from torso s, people bleeding to death, this is the real meaning of war to me.

Owens poem begins very dreary and sluggish this due to the use of four line
sentences which creates a slow and steady pace. This sets the atmosphere and gives
the feeling and image of the soldiers walking back to base camp withered and
ruined. Tennyson uses short well structured lines and a fast moving rhythm and pace,
which creates drama and tension. The use of repeated words Half a league, Half a
League Half a league creates the sensation of the light brigade charging forward. As
dulce et decorum est progresses the sentences become shorter which produces a faster
moving rhythm hence creating excitement and anxiety.
The imagery and words used in Owen s poem: bent double, like old beggars under
sacks, knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge. Illustrates to the
utmost the effects war has. These men used to be strong and brave and now after
fighting in the war they have been destroyed and emasculated. The personification
Tennyson uses: the valley of death and the mouth of death . Portrays the valley the
light Brigade attacked as terrifying and evil, thereby depicting the men of having
extreme bravery.
The tone in both poems is very different from each other. In Owen s poem the tone is
bitter, ironic, pessimistic, unpatriotic whereas in
Tennyson s poem it is the opposite and is celebratory, exultant and
Super Bowl System Analysis
In the summer of 2012, the NCAA announced that college football would be
getting rid of the previous postseason championship system, the BCS bowl system,
and have a four team playoff to figure out who will be the next national champion.
The BCS bowl system was a selection system that had the two highest ranking
teams, based off of rankings from the Associated Press (AP), face off for the
national championship. The new system involves a group of twelve people that
decide who the top four teams in Division I college footballare, rather than the press
deciding the rankings solely based off of a team s record. Ultimately, this would
determine who would compete in the playoff games, and who would become the next
national champion. Although this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another instance, at the end of the 2014 season, is when the #6 ranked Texas

Joseph Heller s Catch-22
Joseph Heller s critically acclaimed novel Catch 22 is an example of a novel that
was never meant to be just a story . Every chapter peels away a layer of analytical
depth in which none but the most sophisticated minds can fully conquer. Robert M.
Young s psychoanalytical approach to Catch 22 can be divided into three
interpretations: why his focus on the psychoanalytical structure is correct, how his
ideas accurately reflect Joseph Hellers intended purpose for the novel, and how his
analysis impacts the overall perception of the novel. Helplessness against the
destructive forces within is ubiquitous and constitutes the greatest physical danger
situation known to the human organism (Young 1). Catch 22is a novel that is

The first time reading the novel, it can be described as a satire with plenty of black
humor. However, upon rereading it and paying further attention to the syntax and
diction, one can begin to see the novel through Young s eyes. The novel one of the
century s greatest and one whose subtleties I have only begun to convey turns on
what happens at the intersection of character and the institutionalized reifications and
cruelties of debased societies and societies at war, internally and with nominally
external enemies (Young 8). To summarize, Young is stating how the pressures of
war and the expectations of society lean heavily on the shoulders of the individual.
These kinds of burdens induce heavy psychological damages along with the troubles
of external problems (i.e. the nominally external enemies ). After reading Young s
critical review, one gains the ability to read the novel in a new light, and further
appreciate the enormous complexity Joseph Heller wove through the sentences. For
example, page 356 says, It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue
and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder
into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into
patriotism, and sadism into justice (Young 8). The complexity as well as the raw truth
of the above sentence shows the kinds
Leadership In The Film Coach Carter As A Basketball
Coach
Management is a tremendously significant factor in leadership, as no good leader
can be an ineffective manager. Every successful manager has and demands respect,
is passionate and caring, builds a team, obtains expectations, and helps people grow.
In the influential film Coach Carter, we are introduced to a character by the name of
Ken Carter, who is offered a position as a basketball coach at Richmond High School,
upon he decides to accept the offer to take on the mission of guiding, training, and
teaching students on the team how to not only be great basketball players, but how to
be great students as well. Throughout the film Ken Carter demonstrates a unique and
distinctive coaching style that ultimately leads his students to success.
Every coach has their own style of teaching and training their players, however after
watching the film Coach Carter it is palpable that Ken Carter has a very unique and
particular style of coaching. After taking on the role as a basketball coach at
Richmond High School, Carter recognises that his students have no intent on
succeeding in their academic studies and simply have the mindset to be successful in
their beloved sport of basketball. Carter obtained a strong disagreeing of these views,
as well as the belief the staff in the school acquired that the statistics are too difficult
to beat, so the additional effort put in will not differentiate anything so Carter made a
contract for his students which stated what rules they must follow,
Pennywise The Clown Quotes
Pennywise The Clown As a child, I vividly remembering watching the movie, It . I
remember this insignificant event clearly for one reason. It kept me up for days
because I was so terrified by the film. It was originally a horror novel written by
Steven King but was also released into a movie. Every great horror movie has a
villain or monsterand the monster in It goes by the name pennywise the clown.
Pennywise the Clown induces fearin me and millions of others because his traits
closely resemble those of Cohen s seven thesis which define what make a monster.
In the opening scene of the movie, a little boy is shown playing in the rain. The
boy s name is Georgie and he is doing what kids have done in the rain for years,
which is playing with a toy boat in the gutter. The camera then shows Georgie s
paper boat unfortunately flow into a gutter in the sidewalk. Georgie starts yelling
NOOO at the loss of his boat and scarmbles up to the gutter. At first the gutter
appears empty, until the audience hears a terrifying voice say Hi Georgie! and the
terrifying clown head shown in my image appears inside the gutter. The clown we
know as penywise. Pennywise asks if Georgie wants his boat back and Georgie
says yes. Pennywise then asks Georgie if he wants a balloon and cotton candy.
Georgie eagerly reaches inside and the demonic clown pulls him in and murders
the boy. The appearance of pennywise the clown would induce nightmares in most
children. He has pale white skin, a red nose and a receding hairline with the rest of
his head covered in curly red clown hair. As for his clothes, Pennywise wears
classic circus clown clothes. A one piece that is brightly colored with blue sleeves
and a yellow body. The purpose of Pennywise the Clowns actions and appearance
are meant to do one thing. To scare children. When pennywise the clown is first
seen talking to Georgie, although he is extremely creepy being in a gutter, a place
no one would ever want to see a clown he seems friendly in his demeanor. However,
when he pulls Georgie into the gutter his face becomes even more demonic and he
gives a chilling smile and laugh with fanglike, yellow stained teeth. If Pennywise the
clown doesn t seem terrifying yet, he

political end, King Louis XIV of France used the style of art during this period to

method that kings would use to consolidate their power and resources at the

successful of the absolute monarchs. In order to achieve this, he relied heavily on
the art and style of the Baroque period. The art was used to emulate their power, and

Messiah Chapter 25 Questions
Question 1: What did I learn about the nature and activity of God? God chose the
nation of Israel as an act of Sovereign Grace. God did not choose them because they
deserved it or because they were special group of people but simple because of His
sovereign Grace. (Routledge page 261). God selects prophets to warn His people of
their fate if they continue to stray away from God. The pre exilic prophets warned
the Israelite nation of their impending judgement due to their apostasy (Routledge,
page 263). Amos prophecies to the Northern Kingdom and warns them of the disaster
coming because of their social sins of oppression and corrupt justice (Routledge,
page 264).
God s message to the Israelite nation was they had committed adultery because they
were worshipping other false gods after Yahweh had took them as His bride
(Jeremiah 2:2, Ezekiel 16:8, Hosea 2:14 16) during their time in the wilderness

Abnormal Behavior In Ancient Greece
Historians who have examined the unearthed bones, artwork and other remnants of
ancient societies have validated that these societies regarded abnormal behavior as
the work of evil spirits. People of prehistoric societies believed that all events
around and within them the results of the actions of magical, sometimes sinister,
beings who controlled the world. In particular they viewed the human body and
mind as a battleground between external forces of good and evil. Abnormal
behavior was interpreted as a victory by evil spirits and the cure for such behaviors
was to force the demon out of the body through exorcism. During the 5th and 3rd
centuries B.C.E., the Greeks changed the way that psychological disorders were
viewed. The philosopher
Brutus Betrayal In Julius Caesar
Heather Brewer said, The worst pain in the world goes beyond the physical. Even
further beyond any other emotional pain one can feel. It is the betrayal of a friend.
There has never been a truer statement that I have seen. Julius Caesar is one of the
prominent stories of betrayal in our lives today. The play is full of duplicity and
challenges, twisting the truth and making you think, who was in the wrong?
Similarly, people are betrayed and manipulated daily. However, Brutus felt he needed
to do what was necessary for the greater population. Therefore, Brutus did not view
his actions as those of betrayal. Brutus was Julius Caesar s closest friend and ally.
Brutus was persuaded into joining the conspiracy against Caesar by the other senators
Ukraine And The Russian Ukrainian Conflict

roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is derived from the word

Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have successfully manipulated the minds
of the Russian speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic Russians. The support
the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already seeks to
expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. Historically,
Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have
Transcontinental Airways History
Flight has become romanticized by humanity, it provides Freedom . Throughout the
majority human history, humans have used land and water for their transportation
needs. The invention of the airplane opened the use of a third medium, air. Flight
only has the illusion of freeing us from earth. Airplanes would not be able to maintain
flight without their ground based systems. These systems are arranged along flight
corridors or airways. The Transcontinental Airway was the first major flight corridor
constructed in the United States. The ground systems constructed along these
corridors have made major impacts upon the landscape of the early 20th century.

The features found on the transcontinental were found on airways across the
country. Over 18,000 miles, 15550 beacons, and 263 intermediate landing fields
were built over the course of the program. The airways crossed nearly every type of
terrain the country has. The manner of lights installed and where they were installed
was dictated by the individual challenges of the terrain of each airway. It is hard to
pin a date as to when the airway system was phased out. There was no sweeping
change to cause their disappearance. Small incremental changes and advances in
technology made them obsolete.
Today remnants of the system still exist throughout the country, primarily in the west
where development pressures were lower. The airway system pioneered by the
Transcontinental is still in use today, though with a much reduced capacity, in

The Aztec And Greek Mythology Essay
When people first hear of the term mythology, he or she normally will associate
the word with the Greeks or the Romans because of the well known myth and
specifically the gods and goddesses. For instance, movies like Hercules, Clash of
the Titans , 300, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympian are renowned films that
people love and since people know these films, they tend to know general
information about the background of the Romans and Greek mythology.
Furthermore, the planets and days of the week are named after Roman and Greek
gods and goddesses. The ancient people worshipped many of these and linked their
divine deities with the planets and days and each is named after an individual god or
goddesses, except for earth. Moreover, although these civilizations have fascinating
myths, it is imperative to note that all cultures have their own unique mythologies.
Similarly, the Mayans and Aztecs have their own exceptional take on how the world
was created along with the first humans.
The specific time frame of when the Mayan empire first started is unknown as well
as when and why the Mayan empire started to decline. However, as new discoveries
are being made, the dates of when the Mayan settlement took place is being pushed
back further. The Mayans lived in what is now northern Central American which
includes Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Yucatan Peninsula and Southern
Mexico. Descendants of the Mayans still live there and speak the language today.
A Critical Analysis Of Ana Castillo s Women DonT Riot
Women yearn for their voices to speak loud enough for the entire world to hear.
Women crave for their voices to travel the nations in a society where they are
expected to turn the volume all the way down. The world expects females to stay
quiet and ignore the pain brought onto them from sexual crime. They do not dare
stand up for what they believe in or discuss their experiences that bring them pain.
Poets such as Ana Castillo and Lawrence Ferlinghetti describe parts of life that
society often ignores. E. E. Cummings supports the ideas of Castillo and
Ferlinghetti by appropriating a more disturbing mindset. These poets demonstrate
the way in which women obtained a supposable to behave and react to situations
that have caused them harm or have the potential to. Women have expectations.
Society wants women to act appropriately. Women stereotypically do not speak
their minds. Poet, Ana Castillo, uses her poem Women Don t Riot to showcase her
frustration towards women who continue to stay silent about harm brought onto
them. For example, raped, / beaten, / harassed, / ... / won t ever rise up in arms
(Castillo 26 32), displaying her frustration towards women who continuously listen
to a society that says to stay quiet. Castillo develops anger towards the women who
bow down to ridiculous expectations. She believes that if women stand united and
fight together, society s ignorance might fade, leading to a lower risk of sex crime.
The world wants women to keep being afraid of

Abstract Bottle rockets, people see them as middle school science projects where
kids have fun and build little rockets. Actually there is a lot behind bottle rockets, it
s more than just throw some plastic bottle together and glue some wings to it and fly
it. The researcher chose this topic because in his class they are doing the bottle rocket
project and he wanted to find out which rocket was more efficient for hang time. So
the experimenter built some rockets and launched them and gathered the results. In

A good water rocket has a lot of qualities and one of them is hang time a good
rocket has a good hang time. The problem is not a lot of people know how to make
a rocket with good hang time and neither did the researcher. He wanted to find out
what dimensions of a rocket would make it have a great hang time.
Before you go into building a rocket for hang time the researcher advises to build a
stable rocket first. One important factor in designing a stable rocket is considering
the stability of the bottles used. Different bottles have different natural
stabilities. Bottles with a short center section and a long neck have a naturally
high center of gravity. High, that is, if it is used as a rocket; low if the bottle is
sitting on a shelf. Newer bottles are designed this way, because they are less likely
to tip over. When we flip the bottle upside down, to be used as a rocket, this shape
works to our benefit, because the center of gravity is already high in the rocket,
resulting in smaller п¬Ѓns and less weight that has to be added to make a stable
rocket. (Singleton IV, 2001)
There are different types of bottle rockets, for different purposes. The type of
rocket we want to build is called a backslider Backsliders are the rockets that are

(this is a concern I have with every field trip!) or too windy. No wind and perfect
temps prevailed, yay! Six persons showed up, three from the Davis/Sacramento
region. Easy walking and easy access made this trip very negotiable. The half mile

was well represented. Who doesn t love Allenrolfea and Sueda? Sorry Sarcobatus,

Wes Moore Outlier Analysis
Kaylin Chan
Ms. Connor
English 10 A
26 October 2017
Wes Moore as an Outlier In an interview, Malcolm Gladwell once said, Outliers
makes us understand how much of a group project success is. When outliers
become outliers, it is not just because of their own efforts. It s because of the
contributions of lots of different people and lots of different circumstances. Wes
Moore is one of the many great examples of a Gladwellian outlier, as evinced by his
upbringing, extraordinary success, and the rare opportunities he received. From
growing up in a broken neighborhood to almost dropping out of school, it seemed as
if the author of The Other Wes Moore would follow the same dark path as his
criminal counterpart with the same name... but he did not. Wes Moore went on to
become a successful graduate of John Hopkins University and the University of
Oxford, a decorated US Army officer, a Rhodes scholar, and a White House Fellow
how? Through hard work and dedication, but also through uncontrollable, arbitrary
opportunities, sheer luck, and an unwavering support system. Wes Moore is the
definition of a true outlier.
One s childhood has a lasting impact on their entire life Moore s upbringing and the
loving family he was born into, no matter how trivial it may seem, greatly
contributed to his success. Moore seemingly grew up the same as any other kid in the
Bronx in a single parent household, surrounded by bad influences... what separated
him from the crowd? His support system
Permian and Cretaceous Mass Extinctions Essay
Assess the different hypotheses put forward for the mass extinctions at the end of the
Permian and Cretaceous (KT) Periods.
A mass extinction is an event in which at least 25 75% of species in the global
environment are eradicated in a short period of time. Where as a regional extinction
event is when the extinction is confined to a specific zone. Five mass extinctions
have occurred throughout time, two of the most well known of these are the Permian
and Cretaceous extinction events.
There are several hypotheses that are used to explain the causes of mass extinctions.
Climate change, the warming or cooling of global environments over a short period
of time, can lead to other occurrences. Shifts in climate can cause extinction by ...

A crater, the Bedout crater, in Australia has been discovered. A bolide impact would
have lead to mass death of marine and terrestrial organisms. The force of the impact
could have released methane from stored organic matter and large earthquakes.
These earthquakes would have triggered the volcanism in the Siberian traps, leading
to the release of large amounts of CO2 and sulfur dioxide. These gases combined
with methane previously released would have created a noxious atmosphere,
combined with climate change that killed a large scale of life.
It is most likely that a simultaneous occurrence of the different global environmental
changes was responsible for ending the Permian period, and the lives of 96% of
species. Each environmental issue is a major geological event, and amplified the
other events, leading to catastrophic environmental situation, in which barely any life
could survive.
The Cretaceous Tertiary mass extinction, commonly referred to as the KT extinction,
occurred 65 million years ago. As the most recant extinction event it is more easily
studied as more evidence has been preserved than for the earlier extinctions. This
extinction is the most commonly known, as it is the extinction of the dinosaurs, but
the smallest scale mass extinction with only 76% of species dying out.
Evidence for catastrophism at the KT boundary can be found in a layer of greenish
Essay On Generation Z
Unimaginable. A group of boys who set out to escape World War II cling on for
dear life so tomorrow won t slip away. They fight to live another day in the hope of
being rescued. Terrified. The group of boys develop fears that tear away at their
relationships and sanity. Impossible. A group of technology ridden, social media
obsessed, lazy teenagers, could never be self sufficient. Unprepared. A world where
falling short is the equivalent of destruction would be a first for the technology
ridden, lazy teenagers. Lost cause. Generation Z, incapable of success or prosperity.
Everyone is the same and everyone is bound to disappoint. Every single person
perfectly fits into societies labels and definitions of themselves. Generation... Show

In any generation, from the Greatest Generation to Generation Alpha, you have
your outdoorsy people, your video gamers, your pushovers, your leaders, your
cooks and the people who can t even make microwave popcorn. While certain
things are supposed to affect a generation s behavior, some will affect certain
people and other s won t. Just like we all have a different code of DNA, different
fingerprints or hairs on our heads, our personalities also differ. Maybe some people
from Generation Z will fall apart without their devices, but others could care less
about modern technology. One cannot address a generation and using the traits
given to the age group, decide their capability in different scenarios. One thing that
can be done, is understanding that everyone was made to have different skills for
the exact purpose of being the yin to someone s yang. To fill the empty spaces
others cannot. Whether any group of people is thought of as deadbeats or not,
humans were made to succeed. I choose to believe that we are all capable of
surviving with a group of other people and Generation Z is included in that. We are
everything, from leaders to slackers. We may be hopeless in some areas, but no one
is completely useless and everyone has something to contribute. With the right
motivation, Generation Z will survive. The same goes for the Millennials, Generation
X, all generations
Greeley Hard Copy
1. Describe the HP organizational Culture. What are some implications of this
culture for developing new innovations? What is evidence of R amp;D s dominance
in HP? The HP organizational culture revolved around the HP Way, which strongly
stressed consensus decision making. While this had worked in many ways for HP in
the past, this type of culture created its share of problems. Because GHC s business is
technology driven, the culture was dominated by R amp;D. While the company was
making the sift to give other functional areas more input as markets began to shift

this a hard task. Even when there were disagreements, multifunctional teams would...

My Love Essay
I was loved even before I was born, that is what my parents always told me. To be
loved and fully accepted without reservation is their greatest gift to me. Raised by
Christian parents who modeled Christ s love, my early life was uneventful and
peaceful. I followed the rules and never got in any serious trouble. So for the first
ten years of my life, my faith was not tested and had no chance of maturing. My life
of ease did not incite me to seek Godor his purpose for me. God was in the
background for me then.
Then came some hard times. My easy life was shaken when my mom was
diagnosed with breast cancer. This was her second cancer diagnosis and more
serious than the first. Real life stress and worry came crashing in on me. Was I
being punished for some wrong doing? Would my mom survive? What would
happen to me? I was just a kid, but I knew how serious this was. At first, I did not
know where to find help and comfort. Then I remembered seeing my parents turn to
prayer and the Bible especially when they had worries. I came across Ephesian 1:4,
Even before he made the world, God loved us/me and chose us/me in Christ to be
holy and without fault in his eyes. This verse reminded me of what my parents told
me when I was very young. God chose me to have a relationship with Him through
his Son, Christ. He holds me without fault because of the sacrifice his Son made for
me. My mom s illness was not a punishment because I have already been forgiven
for my sins. I found peace and

Prospero was Calibans owner. When Trinculo and Stephano came to the island,

Niue does not have a Bill of Rights guaranteeing fundamental rights or freedom from

Constitution[edit]
The Niue Constitution Act 1974 sets out provisions for Niue s self government. The
Constitution of Niue, contained in Schedules 1 (Niuean) and 2 (English), is supreme

The Ripper s Letter Analysis
According to Cristina Sanza, a letter that claims to have been written by the Ripper
states that the killer planned to cut the ears off of his next victim. A day after the
news agency received the letter, Catherine Eddowes was killed and both of her ears
had been cut off. The Ripper s letter was not published until after Eddowes death;
therefore, the Ripper must have been the author of the letter. Sanza announced that
Jeff Mudgett had a handwriting analysis expert compare the letter and Holmes diary
and he reached the conclusion that the letter and diary were written by the same
person. Sanza stated that just to be safe, Mudgett sent the sample to a computer
analysis who insisted there was a 97.95 percent chance that Holmes wrote the

This is another disadvantage as can be noticed in the international firms that maintain
presence in the country. This is because there is a need for competitiveness to be on
a level ground if these firms are to be profitable, but the note from all indication is
that the chances of these firms to successes are limited as a result of the limitation in
their competitive capacity because the government has already given the local firms a
higher competitive advantage by imposing higher task on international brand, and

Reconciliation In Australia
Reconciliation is a multi layered complex process that encompasses steps towards
recognising the split or the gap between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians.
These divisions have been caused by events in Australia s history starting from the
colonisation of the country in 1788 of the first fleet which held on board Christian
denominations and variants. The land was thought to be as Terra Nullius and this
misunderstanding caused a lack of respect, understanding and knowledge.
The movement towards reconciliation is important because Aboriginal Spirituality is
inextricably connected to the land. The land is their mother, the land is their identity

the first women to write a slave narrative in the United States of Incidents in the

thousands of Slave mothers that are still in bondage in the South (Jacobs 126).
Jacobs tells her life of twenty seven years in slaveryin depth life as a slave, and the
choices she made to gain freedom for herself and her children. She writes a story
about her families and masks them as well as her name as Linda Brent in her novel

Although as the females age, their household tasks and other responsibilities would

As Jacobs grew older in Dr. Flint s family she was accustomed to share things with
the children of the mistress. Women of slavery during this time would be
frequently called to even nurse their mistresses children so that even the mother
was not disturbed in her sleep by her own child. Jacobs herself speaks of her Aunt
Nancy in the novel who did this exact thing for many years, and it was obvious of
aspects of life and what the slave had to do with taking the needs of the white child
versus her own child. Jacobs was in a sense employed as a night nurse to Mrs.
Flint s children rather than her own children at night. This broke Jacobs mentally,
physically, and emotionally to where finally Dr. Flint made it clear that it was
nearly impossible she could be a mother of any living child of her own. This comes
straight from her book and shows an almost perfect example of the respect that would
be given to such women, which in reality is absolutely none.
The Flint s trusted Jacobs to ultimately raise their children and once she reached

  • 2. Essay on Names in Song of Solomon The Importance of Names in Song of Solomon Abstract: In Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, names have great implication. Language is extremely personal and deeply rooted in culture. Names are an integral part of language, and they help to establish identity, define personality, and show ownership through formal and informal usage. Tis but thy name that is my enemy; / Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. / What s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, / Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part / Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! / What s in a name? that which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet; / So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call d, / Retain that dear perfection which he owes / ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of naming in Song of Solomon was first introduced through a local road known as Not Doctor Street. The street s title was commonplace after years of colloquial reference from locals, but never truly official: Town maps registered the street as Mains Avenue, but the only colored doctor in the city had lived and died on that street, and when he moved there in 1866 his patients took to calling the street, which none of them lived on or near, Doctor Street. Later, when other Negroes moved there, and when the postal service became a popular means of transferring messages among them, envelopes from Louisiana, Virginia, Alabama and Georgia began to arrive addressed to people on Doctor Street. The post office workers returned these envelopes or passed them on to the Dead Letter Office. Then in 1918, when colored men were being drafted, a few gave their address at the recruitment office as Doctor Street. In that way, the name acquired a quasi official status. (4) However, the status did not last long because city legislators disapproved and posted numerous bulletins in local establishments stating that the road, had always and would always be known as Mains Avenue and not Doctor Street (4). Locals were then able to both obey the local ordindances and satisfy their interests by referring to the road as Not Doctor Street. The residents were able to take some control of the area s situation by
  • 3. Christmas Descriptive Writing On that momentous Christmas Eve of 2013, daubs of ashen grays, splattered specks of lapis, careless streaks of pale lavender, and muted, chalky whites were smeared across the blank canvas sky, barely concealing the cold, distant stars. The sliver of the moon that was shaped as though it were a narrow, shining claw, was tied to the edge of a low hanging cloud with a thin, wisp of a string. Millions of the beautiful feathery, ice crystals were brutally thrown toward the Earth, onto the frosted, dead grass, where they joined their companions in a heap of broken, mangled snowflakes. For the ecclesiastical holiday, scintillating lights were intertwined with newly bought, plastic reindeer scattered across the yard, along with a snowman with a crooked,... I screeched, the edges of my vision starting to blur from tears. I ve known you for five years. I had said, as quiet as she. With a whimper, I examined my festive knee high socks and took another mouthful of drink. Chloe fiddled with the edge of her caramel, shoulder length hair and had given me a lifeless, emerald green stare. I have a gift for you! She then exclaimed, her eyes suddenly brightening as though remembering something important. Here! She handed me a rectangular object ingeniously wrapped, with two red ribbons interlaced to one another into my hands. Carefully, I had untied the bow, and tore off the wrapping paper. In the container was a thick book, encased in a dark leather binding. Chloe stood behind me. With caution, I opened the book and inside was an array of pictures each with captions. In a few of the plastic sleeves, various objects, sometimes a handful of Hilton Head Island sand, or a chain with two silver hearts linked together. I gave her a sheepish
  • 4. Thomas More Moral Dilemmas Thomas More has the moral dilemma to speak against the supremacy of the King Henry VIII or stay silent and let things happen. He chooses staying silent to find a way to stop him, but is this a moral decision to follow? Even if he recognizes that silence never helps, he doesn t speak against. I think this is a moral conflict. I posit that the conflict Thomas Moreconfronted in the history resonates with many present day situations. In my view, Thomas More s professional life, which is characterized most often by his refusal to endorse the objectives of King Henry VIII, exemplifies the recurrent conflict between the head of the Congress personal beliefs and the expectations of the sovereign. (Bolt, 95) Like Thomas More s dilemma of conscience, the conflict of values I confronted carries life threatening consequences as well as the potential impact on my career factored heavily in my decision making. As Thomas More faced the conflict speaking against the king or staying silent, I will face the situation where I should definitely speak against the president in the future. I am the head of the Congress and the closest person the president and the prime minister. After the president s party got elected 12 years ago and he became the prime minister. We had mutual relationship, and I got elected for the Congress, and became the head of the Congress in 5 years. I have been the head of the Congress since then, but after 13 years the prime minister became the president. Right now he is the president and he wants to change the way of governing the country. Right now we have democracy, but he wants a Democratic Republic to do what he wants. Becoming the prime minister and the president of the country made him greed and he wants more. Normally he shouldn t have stayed more than 5 years, but it s been 13 years. His greed started worry

This assignment is designed to get you familiar with policies at CU Denver, and gain experience navigating academic and government websites to locate this type of information. Read the CU Denver policy for research misconduct and either the Department of Health and Human Services or National Science Foundation s policy for research misconduct and answer the following questions: 1.What is the definition of research misconduct under each policy? 1.The University of Colorado Denver lists four different sections within its definition of research misconduct. First, it lists research misconduct as any fabrication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The National Science Foundation goes through the same definition as The University of Colorado Denver by stating research misconduct includes falsification, fabrication and plagiarism when proposing, performing, reviewing or reporting any research funded by the NSF. Also, it states research misconduct does not include honest error of differences in opinion. 2.What is one key difference between the policies? A very important key difference between these two definitions of research misconduct is the National Science Foundation never mentions anything about protecting whistleblowers from retaliation. 3.Do you feel this difference is important? Why or why not? Yes, fell like this is a very important difference, because protecting whistleblowers should be explicitly mentioned in the definition of research misconduct. Protecting retaliation against a whistleblower confirms researchers are being kept honest and validates research is being done ethically. If protection is not provided for whistleblowers, then individuals who are witnessing research misconduct will be less likely to report an incidence in fear of retaliation. I do not think properly defining research misconduct can be possible without including provisions to protect individuals who are reporting these acts of falsification, fabrication and
  • 6. The Motivations And Satisfaction Of Lic Students Essay To investigate the motivations and satisfaction of LIC students when studying in the UK Introduction There is a prevalent trend of students going abroad for further study in the UK. In fact, the UK has become the second most common option for overseas students to study which is just behind the United Stateпј€ King et al., 2010). According to the data from UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) (2015), 19 percent of the students in the UK are from abroad. Studies have shown that oversea study experience can help students improve English proficiency, gain cultural experience, enhance individual competency, construct self consciousness and notional consciousness, embrace diversity, and promote the sense of responsibility (Rhodes et al., 2012). As there are many benefits of overseas study, it is significant for the UK government and universities to understand the motivations of international students when they decide to study in the UK as well as the degree of satisfaction of their learning experience, so that they are able to realize their attractions and weaknesses. In particular, for Liverpool International College, this research will be able to give the college managers insight into the factors appealing to oversea students and then optimize its performance. For students, it can help them prepare before departing from their origin countries and adapt quickly to the UK courses. The objectives of this research are: To determine the motivations of LIC students

  • 8. The Crooked Line Essay Ismat Chughtai s The Crooked Line reads like a classic Bildungsroman in many ways. It is the story of a child born in an environment which is fairly hostile who grows up and is able to move away from this hostile environment on a journey of self discovery. This basic structure is, however, where the similarity ends. A Bildungsroman is a novelof development of the central protagonist from birth to a position of stability within the social sphere. This normative form functions as a basis for Ismat Chughtais novel The Crooked Line but instead of being the pattern followed, it is the path not taken. The normative Bildungsroman is that against which this novel rebels and tells the story of a protagonist who follows a trajectory which is individualistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it avows to depict reality and change is a fundamental feature of reality, it is imperative that the realist novel changes constantly as well. This implies that the structural foundation of a Bildungsroman would also have to be modified in order to make it contemporary and also realist. The nature of this change, especially in the European context is obvious in terms of the transformation of the novel from depicting stability into a genre which hinges on the inherent instability of a society. In his essay on this topic, Franco Moretti in his introduction to The Way of the World argues that the new novel is the transformative novel. In this, he uses the model of the novel of adultery in which the growth of a character is located in the sphere of adultery and thereby is essentially an unstable stability. This instability forms the foundation of the novel form in one more significant aspect; one which is critical for Chughtai s Shaman as well. Youth is important for the central protagonist because it is the site of potential which is hitherto untapped. This potential encapsulates the heroic potential of the protagonist and manifests itself in the larger system of causality in the text. The trajectory which the central protagonist will choose to follow is begun in a young age. The decisions of the character work as milestones against which one may measure the success or the degree of closure provided by the ending. However, as Moretti further elaborates, this Bildungsroman encapsulates within it another paradox; the individual s growth cannot be parallel to societal growth as the social sphere exists in order to suppress the individual. This implies that any authentic Bildungsroman hinges on the discovery of a stable and viable alternative. That the protagonist will in some way find a balance between the self and the world and therefore s/he will be able to develop personally as well as socially. This developmental

From following a religion and practicing its ceremonies, to performing tasks in order to belong to a certain crowd, people are constantly involving themselves in cult like activities and the rituals that come attached to them. Avant garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger in his films Inauguration of The Pleasure Dome and Scorpio Rising does not only highlight some of these cult rituals, but also induces the viewer to become part of them. On one hand, Scorpio Rising depicts an actual ritualby creating the portrait of the leader of a motorcycle gangwho is part of a sacrifice while Inauguration of The Pleasure Dome does not only suggest a religious ritual practice, but also creates a trance state for the viewer allowing them to be part of the ritual. Both films use similar tools to achieve the ritualistic reference. They both do it through alluring set design and costumes, reference to religious acts, and through repetitive and detailed narrative schemes. The opening scene of Inauguration Of The Pleasure Dome consists of a colorful sequence in which an unusual man is putting gold rings on his fingers and diamond necklaces down his throat. The camera follows this extravagant man down bright orange corridors until he reaches a mirror his reflection shows a demon figure that opens the gate to the following sequence. The Emotional Regulation Questionnaire Scale consists of 10 items designed to measure respondents tendency to regulate their emotions in two ways: (1) Cognitive Reappraisal and (2) Expressive Suppression (i.e. I control my emotions by changing the way I think about the situation I m in.; When I m faced with a stressful situation, I make myself think about it in a way that helps me stay calm.). • 12. How The Mass And Force Affect The Acceleration Of An Object Scientific Report | Newton s Second Law Title:How the mass and force affect the acceleration of an object. Aim:To test Newton s seconds law if whether changing the mass or the force affects the acceleration of an object or a trolley in this case to increase or decrease. Introduction: Newton s laws of motion are three physical laws that describe the connection between a body and the different forces acting upon it, as well as its motion in response to those forces. Isaac Newton developed Galileo s ideas further and developed three law of motions. Newton s First Law of Motion states that an object at rest with remain this way unless if it affected by a force. Also if an object that is moving will continue at the same speed as well as the same direction until an unbalanced force acts upon it. An example of unbalance force is when a scooter is being driven, the friction and air resistance is going at it, the weight of the scooter is keeping the weight on the ground, the reaction force is going up and the thrust of the scooter going forward. The force s tendency to resist any change in motion is called an object s inertia. Newton s Second Law of Motion states that an object will keep on accelerating in the direction of an unbalance force acting upon it. The mass of the object and the size of the force acting depends upon the size of the acceleration., F_net=m x a, is the formula to work out the total amount of force acting upon an object. This formula can be

The teachers were always there for you and your needs, the facilities were kept clean and safe, and the neighborhood I grew up in was actually pretty good. I have seen the schoolsystem through the eyes of a student, but now I am beginning to look at it as a future educator. Michelle Rhee is the Chancellor for Washington s District of Columbia, and her task was to turn the school system on its head to improve student achievement. She has several years experience in dealing with the school system in its entirety, many do not believe in her methods. One person that is completely against her is Diane Ravitch, a woman who has served as the United States Assistant Secretary of Educationin her past, and is currently working as a research professor at New York University s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Ravitch has also been working as a historian of education and an educational policy analyst. I believe it is safe to say that she knows a thing or two about education in our country. The main question is, where do we begin to reform our poorly organized school system and how do teacher s statuses play a role in the middle? First off, at the beginning of Rhee s changing of the system, many

This happens when police target people who look like they can be causing trouble on the streets, approach them and then proceed to ask for consent to search their bags that they are carrying. These police officers intentionally avoid letting these civilians know that they have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions at all. Never do the officers inform the person that they are free to remain silent or refuse to answer questions.(Alexander) Judicial systems were aware that this tactic will work because of the fact that most of the black men being accused do not have the proper education and therefore do not know their rights, which then leads to them complying to the officer and letting them search them whether they actually have drugs on them or not. Like search and seizures tactics, pretext stops are another way that the police used to arrest suspicious men who might be doing criminal activities. These stops were to be able to stop someone on a minor mistake, such as not signaling when they are turning and use this excuse to search them for drugs, in hopes that they might get lucky and actually find something.(Alexander) These police officers stop these men because they look as if they could possibly be engaging in criminal activity, or in other words because they are black. In Louisiana, though black men have this right to say No to search and seizures and pretext stops they usually comply and let the officer search them. In the New Jim Crow, Alexander states People are easily intimidated when the police confront them, hands on their revolvers, and most have no idea the question can be answered

This scene has an emphasis on time. Guy is concerned and held up by his tennis match, while Bruno has to reach for the lighter in the grate. The two characters who seem to be very methodical in their normal actions are now acting on instinct. The tennisannouncer points out that this is a game that Guy has never played and is known for doing slow play. The audience knows about how Bruno acts methodically by his calm demeanor during the carnival murder scene and his nonchalant attitude when dealing with Guy s acquaintances. This is a parallel between the two characters that Hitchcock makes. Showing that just because Guy is a civilised man and aspiring politician doesn t mean he isn t capable of murder just like Bruno. This idea of Guy killing is plausible throughout the whole movie and adds to the suspense of the film. The audience could want this from either morbid curiosity or maybe to humanize Bruno more, honestly there are endless reasons. The tennis match itself, is also a parallel between Guy and Bruno with sport being a big theme in their relationship. Bruno makes a deal with Guy to exchange murder. This exchange when offered kind of seems like a sort of sports proposition. With both of them gambling their lives and the obvious idea of killing a human is ultimate game. They both go back and forth in their interactions.

Aerospace engineering deals with writing reports and information request. Report writing is important in aerospace engineering because an engineer must report on the progress made so they can remember their work. Here is what the Manual for technical report writing has to say on the content of a report, A technical report generally contains a clear outline of the problem, mathematical equations, drawings, charts, tables and graphs (2). Reports are important in the aerospacefield because when a new advancement in technology is found other engineers need to know the type of advancement to make their work easier. This goes into the next part of writing in aerospace engineering, that being information request. Here is what Marco Aurisicchio has to say about information request, During Product Development, engineeringdesigners raise several information request that make them search through human and documentary sources. This paper reports to characterize, in detail these request for designers working in a major aerospace engineering company (Aurisicchio, 1). Abnormal behavior was interpreted as a victory by evil spirits and the cure for such behaviors was to force the demon out of the body through exorcism. During the 5th and 3rd centuries B.C.E., the Greeks changed the way that psychological disorders were viewed. The philosopher
  • 35. Brutus Betrayal In Julius Caesar Heather Brewer said, The worst pain in the world goes beyond the physical. Even further beyond any other emotional pain one can feel. It is the betrayal of a friend. There has never been a truer statement that I have seen. Julius Caesar is one of the prominent stories of betrayal in our lives today. The play is full of duplicity and challenges, twisting the truth and making you think, who was in the wrong? Similarly, people are betrayed and manipulated daily. However, Brutus felt he needed to do what was necessary for the greater population. Therefore, Brutus did not view his actions as those of betrayal. Brutus was Julius Caesar s closest friend and ally. Brutus was persuaded into joining the conspiracy against Caesar by the other senators

The Russian speaking Ukrainians have been influenced a lot by Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of power between Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. • 38. The Aztec And Greek Mythology Essay When people first hear of the term mythology, he or she normally will associate the word with the Greeks or the Romans because of the well known myth and specifically the gods and goddesses. For instance, movies like Hercules, Clash of the Titans , 300, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympian are renowned films that people love and since people know these films, they tend to know general information about the background of the Romans and Greek mythology. Furthermore, the planets and days of the week are named after Roman and Greek gods and goddesses. The ancient people worshipped many of these and linked their divine deities with the planets and days and each is named after an individual god or goddesses, except for earth. Moreover, although these civilizations have fascinating myths, it is imperative to note that all cultures have their own unique mythologies. Similarly, the Mayans and Aztecs have their own exceptional take on how the world was created along with the first humans. The specific time frame of when the Mayan empire first started is unknown as well as when and why the Mayan empire started to decline. However, as new discoveries are being made, the dates of when the Mayan settlement took place is being pushed back further. A good water rocket has a lot of qualities and one of them is hang time a good rocket has a good hang time. The problem is not a lot of people know how to make a rocket with good hang time and neither did the researcher. He wanted to find out what dimensions of a rocket would make it have a great hang time. Before you go into building a rocket for hang time the researcher advises to build a stable rocket first. One important factor in designing a stable rocket is considering the stability of the bottles used. Diп¬Ђerent bottles have diп¬Ђerent natural stabilities. Bottles with a short center section and a long neck have a naturally high center of gravity. High, that is, if it is used as a rocket; low if the bottle is sitting on a shelf. Newer bottles are designed this way, because they are less likely to tip over. When we flip the bottle upside down, to be used as a rocket, this shape works to our beneп¬Ѓt, because the center of gravity is already high in the rocket, resulting in smaller п¬Ѓns and less weight that has to be added to make a stable rocket. (Singleton IV, 2001) There are different types of bottle rockets, for different purposes. The type of rocket we want to build is called a backslider Backsliders are the rockets that are modified so that at apogee, instead of flipping over and heading for the ground, they float back in a higher drag configuration than a nose dive. This set includes true backsliders which actually fall vertically

These gases combined with methane previously released would have created a noxious atmosphere, combined with climate change that killed a large scale of life.
