Inclusion Of The Deaf Counseling Center
In reviewing several videos from the Deaf Counseling Center, I have the utmost respect for counselors
who are in training to learn ASL and have a desire to work with individuals with hearing loss.
Honestly, I was struggling in watching the interpreter sign what she wants to express about
psychotherapy, and the counseling process for individuals with a hearing loss. I found out as an
upcoming vocational rehabilitation counselor having difficulty finding signs for simple words or
interpretation in what is being said during each you tube video that I previewed that I am know where
near ready to communicate with sign language in a therapeutic setting. The deaf and hard of hearing
should be provide counseling just like everyone else. I think this is very important they also have the
right to be able to communicate with ease in a therapeutic setting and be able to work with their
counselor in developing mutual trust. Recruiting the assistance of a professionally trained and certified
sign language interpreter to facilitate communication is probably the best way for me to go as an
upcoming vocational rehabilitation counselor and actually I have seen this work out remarkably well
in several circumstances. Psychotherapy, is a unique process designed to help deaf people work
through any concerns or problems they may be experiencing in life. Deaf people who experienced
communication oppression or abuse while growing up, for example, may use therapy to work through

Elon Musk And Its Impact On The Planet
Within every generation, there are some individuals who transcend expectations and seek to innovate
beyond all preconceived boundaries. Elon Musk is one of those individuals, and he s currently valued
at $11.9 billion.
But how did this South African born entrepreneur make his way into virtually every technological
industry on the planet? How did he become the space traveling, futuristic car selling, loudmouthed
computer genius we all know today?
Elon Musk took an interest in computing and innovation from a very young age. By his thirteenth
birthday, he had already taught himself programming, constructed a complex space themed computer
game, and sold it to a large corporation. After moving to the United States and earning a bachelor ...

And if that wasn t enough already, Musk refused to take a steady job at a company, but rather build his
own. He completely ignored the fact that eight out of ten new businesses fail within their first five
years (Forbes) in other words, that the odds were not in his favor. But the notions of progress,
innovation and wild success were so pivotally important to Musk that he truly felt that this was his
calling. He and his brother Kimbal soon created Zip2, an Internet software product that allowed
newspapers to create city guides for their readers. After four years of expansion, including contracts
with The New York Times, Musk and his associates sold the company for a whopping $307 million.
At just 28, he was already a millionaire on his way to defying even more odds and pursuing important
goals.
I always invest my own money in the companies that I create. I don t believe in the whole thing of just
using other people s money. I don t think that s right. I m not going to ask other people to invest in
something if I m not prepared to do so myself.
Musk never half committed or submitted to being unsure. After his success with Zip2, he invested
virtually all of the money he had earned into his next venture, this time focusing on online payment
services. While many questioned his logic, Musk subsequently succeeded in merging with a company
who would

Antagonist In A Midsummer Night
Tales and stories have been told since the beginning of time, handed down from each generation to the
next, and each story has left its mark on the listener even if it is not apparent. Parts of the story are
remembered and it is the goal of an author or storyteller to leave an impact of each who hears their
tale. The idea is to have a plot interesting enough to hold the attention and then to develop conflict
those experiencing will remember. Part of the way this is accomplished is through the characters, not
always the protagonist, but the antagonist as well. The villain of the story is an individual the audience
will pay close attention to and attempt to understand as the storyline unfolds. There s something about
antagonists that, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

asks for forgiveness, he reminds the audience of the dangers of the night, of graves gaping open and
wolves howling at the moon. He never asks for forgiveness from the

The Importance Of Social Cohesion
Australia flourishes in an environment of a variety of cultures. We pertain to the ideas of acceptance
and understanding of individuals that have the intention to become apart of team Australia. But what
do we know Australia as? A community of equal citizens Abbott declares (The Conversation, 2014).
We can all assume that we as individuals idealise a country of equity and equality in all aspects of life,
whether it be race, gender, beliefs or political views. In a world where we want fairness and equality,
we coin the concept of social and cultural cohesion, which can be defined as the ties that hold people
together (Humanrights.gov.au, 2017). Moreover, social cohesion is regarded as a shared vision, and is
a process rather than an outcome (Scanlonfoundation.org.au, 2017). Jenson hypothesised a framework
that identifies the importances of social cohesion between individuals. He states that the disruption of
social cohesion effects dimensions of belonging, legitimacy, recognition, participation and inclusion
(Study.com, 2017). In contrast to this we come across an unwanted prejudice and discrimination
towards certain aspects of life. We define this as cultural conflict, the conflict that occurs when
different cultural values and beliefs clash with opposing values and beliefs (LeBaron, 2003). In
regards to Jenson s framework of social cohesion, cultural conflict revolves around the five
dimension. With disruption to this, views are altered into a more negative outlook,

Benefits Of Donating To The Homeless
As the holidays roll around we often think of what presents to give our loved ones, what food to
prepare for the family get together, or the hopefulness for a white Christmas full of joy for the whole
family. Though all these are reasonably rewarding in their own way from getting the family together
to receiving gifts that you have always wanted, have you ever thought about just how rewarding it
would be to possibly save a person`s life just by giving them some clothing? Well if you are interested
in possibly saving a life there is a way to do so and that is called donating to the homeless. The United
Stated has one of the highest population of homeless people in the world. Though many think that

Essay on Gateway Vs Dell
Gateway was founded in 1985 in an Iowa farmhouse and has grown into one of America s best known
brands. Gateway is the third largest PC Company in the U.S. Gateway started out in 1991 when it
introduced its distinctive cow spotted boxes. In December 1993, it became part of the Fortune 500 and
started to trade NASDAQ, a t$15.00 per share, prior to moving to the New York Stock Exchange in
1997. In March 2004, the company acquired eMachines, a PC maker, for $235 million. This took
Gateway from a PC maker to a full service technology provider with a wide range of its own products

volunteering as a responsibility, this includes support of the United Way, and their employees frequent
participation in community activities. Gateway trades under the ticker symbol GTW and is currently at
$5.17 per share with a volume of 3,549,900. Gateway s stock split two for one on June 16, 1997, at

William Randolph Hearst And Building Hearst Castle
Introduction: 28 years. According to California State Parks: Hearst Castle, that s how long to took
William Randolph Hearst to build Hearst Castle. Construction began in 1919 and did not end till 1947.
Hearst Castle is a museum like no other. It is a 70,000 sq ft home that looks over the village of San
Simeon, California. William Hearst called the estate La Cuesta Encantado which means The
Enchanted Hill in Spanish. The incredible work done to this castle portrays the amazing talents people
have. William Randolph Hearst had a thought, and idea when he decided to build this Castle and that
thought has been constructed and portrayed in many different ways.
Body:
William Randolph Hearst was born April 29,1863 in San Francisco, California. His father was a
multimillionaire geologist who gained his wealth from the California Gold Rush and his mother was
one of the first women philanthropists in the United States. William received the best education, but
was frequently expelled from his schools because of pulling pranks on teachers. He was even expelled
from Harvard for sending his professors engraved chamber pots. By the age of 16, his mother had
already taken him on 2 art tours. Hearst gained his love of art from his mother and his ambition and
energy from his father. In 1887, Hearst insisted that his father gives him the San Francisco Examiner,
a newspaper his father owned. When his father died, he left everything to his wife and left Hearst with

As seen, speech language pathologists can be employed around the nation, and for that reason the
salary of a speech language can be based on the their background, experience, work setting and
geographical location (The American Speech Language Hearing Association, 1997 2016). According
to the Occupational Outlook Handbook the average annual wage for speech language pathologist in
May 2015 was $73,410 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, 2015). At the same
time, facts from May 2015 exhibited that speech pathologist in nursing and residential care facilities

Hobbes Despotism
It is hardly adequate to argue that Hobbes commits himself to upholding that it is permissible for a
political authority to do anything he likes over his people. Instead, what one finds in him is a
statement such as, It is a weak Soveraign, that has weak Subjects; and a weak People, whose
Soveraign wanteth Power to rule them at his will. As indicated above, a close reading of his texts as a
whole reveals striking obstacles to interpret him as recommending a despotic rule of the
commonwealth. Although the idea of ruling despotically looks very Hobbesian, it is not quite very
supported by a close reading of Hobbes s overall political philosophy. His overall argument indicates,
rather, that the sovereign cannot command anything except what

Operation Sovereign Borders Essay
Operation Sovereign Borders
The detention of asylum seekers on offshore islands has becomes central to Australia s border security
program (Dickson, 2015). The offshore detention, processing and resettlement regime branded the
Pacific Solution was terminated in 2008; it was reconfigured and resurrected in 2013 (Larkin, 2017).
Manus Island and Nauru were closed in 2008 by the Australian Labour government, bringing an end
to the Pacific Solution, the centres were once again used in 2012 to house asylum seekers by the same
government that ended the practice years before (Dickson, 2015). The next year, in 2013, the

The Coalition government declared that there was a national emergency on Australia s borders, in turn
demanding a direct response to this issue through a disciplined, focused and targeted military
operation (Dickson, 2015). Thus, Operation Sovereign Borders emerged with its primary objective
being to stop the boats (Dickson. 2015). This new policy involved the military interception of
unauthorized maritime arrivals, thus sending the individuals found on the boats directly to Manus
Island and Nauru (Fraenkel, 2016). From the inauguration of this revamped policy, no matter where an
asylum seeker arrived from by boat, they were subject to transfer to either Manus Island or Nauru
(Grewcock, 2014). The purpose of this policy was to ensure the removal of all boat arrivals attempting
to breach Australia and in turn any possibility of resettlement for the asylum seekers in the nation
(Grewcock, 2014). Thus, those accepted as genuine refugees would be permanently resettled in either
Papua New Guinea, or Nauru, although the government of Nauru held that it would not be granting

What Is The Communist Manifesto
The Communist Manifesto
The communist Manifesto is the author s way of interpreting the goals of Communism, as well as the
theory underlying this movement. Two major points of the manifesto explain how class relationships
are defined by an era s means of production. Also, the manifesto incorporates how class struggles, or
exploitation of one class by another, are motivating force behind all historical developments. If those
two points are not followed then a revolution occurs and a new class emerges as the ruling one. This
outcome represents the march of history which is driven by economic variables. The Manifesto argues
that this development is inevitable, and the capitalism is inherently unstable. Elimination of social ...

I think that the reading was worth my time. Most readings that I am forced to read do not peak my
interest. This work on the other hand was enjoyable because it was filled with information regarding
the work of communism. This book has to be considered one of many famous literary works. It is hard
to argue that the text is not worth reading. I don t believe in the ideas expressed in the text, but I
respect the impact that the novel has had on society. Communism was viewed as such a scary topic for
most of history and it was interesting to read about it. I am not sure why the author came up with these
ideas. I do know that he was the basis for the idea of communism. It is hard to say that the author did
not contribute to my understanding of the topic because if he did not, then I would be considered an
idiot. It is almost like getting a basketball lesson from Michael Jordon and not improving your game.
The way in which the text was represented made it easy to understand. The four section format was
broken down in a way so it had easy access. The most important thing that I obtained from the text is
how much I am proud to be an American. I love the form of government that we have. A democracy is
something that I am proud to be apart of. It also makes me proud of our government that we went out
to stop the spread of communism. All

First Crusades Dbq Research Paper
The first Crusades were ordered by Pope Urban II. The Crusades were a series of military Christians
and Muslims. They fought over the holy land of Jerusalem. It took place in Middle East between 1095
and 1291. The Crusades were caused primarily by the desire for political and economical gain rather
than religious devotion. Some reasons for the crusades were based off religion. Both Christians and
Muslims consider Jerusalem a holy place. Both also wanted control of the city because it would please
their god. Pope Urban II should defend their fellow brethren in the East. Even though Eastern

Media Violence And Crime Violence
Media Violence and Crimes
There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent medias
contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by younger
shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while others
dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar division exists
(Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the American Psychological
Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association between media violence and
societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group of estimated 230 media
scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA. In this letter, they asked
APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual speculation.
Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the Federal
Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of negative
influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical Association,
with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media violence.
However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link between
media violence and violent crime (Dahl Vigna, 2009). The experiments, conducted by the FTC in their

The Importance Of Gender Equality In The Military
In a world where political correctness reigns supreme and gender equality are major concerns and
talking points for a lot of people, there are some circumstances where gender equality just does not
make sense. There are times when pushing for gender equality causes only harm and in fact, damages
its own cause. In the Military, this has taken the form of pushing to have women be allowed to serve
in front lines combat units. In the major political push for gender equality in all jobs, some of these
pushes for change will cause only harm. Women should not be allowed to serve in front line combat
units because of their biology they are physically incapable of the same things as men are, there will
be unit cohesion problems that do not exist and there are health concerns for women have that men do
not have. Beginning in early 2013, the Secretary of Defense chose to rescind the policy known as the
Direct Combat Exclusion Rule (Batterton, Hale, Murphy, 2016). This policy is what restricted front
line combat units to men only. After this policy was rescinded, the different branches of the Military
have opened their training programs to allow women the chance to pass them. The problem with this
is that along with opening these programs to women, they have had to modify the training programs to
be gender neutral (Roulo, 2013). This means that if the standards are too high for women to pass, the
tests would seem biased. However, if we lower them, then the recruits which pass the

North America Vs North Korea Essay
Imagine a life living in North Korea. A country so isolated and cut off from the rest of the world. After
many years after the war, North Korea and America have not been at a complete truce. North Korea
holds America responsible for tearing their country into two parts, North and South. Nevertheless
there are many similarities and differences between America and North Korea.
An impoverished country of more than twenty five million people, North Korea, also known as the
Democratic People s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was founded by the revolutionary leader Kim IL
Sung after the end of World War II. North Korea began as an independent kingdom for much of its
long history. Both North and South Korea were under Japanese control in 1905 until the country was
split after the end of World War II. Located in eastern Asia in the northern half of the Korean
Peninsula, bordering the Korea Bay and the Sea of Japan, North Korea sits in a strategic location
bordering China, Russia, and South Korea. North Korea is slightly larger than the state of Virginia, but

Virtuoso Comparison Essay
At the time when people s moral codes are slackening, a community is in need of spiritual guidance
more than ever. That was why Virtuoso was founded in the first place. Just like all other religions,
Virtuoso is against violence and embraces humanity at its heart. Nevertheless, there are major
similarities and differences that are also need to be addressed. Virtuoso, by definition, is a practice of
faith that focuses on spiritual growth and harmony with nature. It shares the same monotheistic
structure with Hinduism, where there s only 1 all powerful God (Brahmin) that results in a plurality of
forms, also known as the deities . In Virtuoso, Mother Nature is the center of worship, and she comes
in 4 distinct forms: Ignis (Fire), Aqua (Water), Aer (Air) and Terra (Earth). Each deity is a gender
neutral divine being that symbolizes Willpower, Wisdom, Love, and Integrity, respectively. Despite
having different systems of beliefs (2), Children of Virtues and Buddhists still have 1 thing held in
common. They both put emphasis on spiritual growth and certain aspects of kindness throughout their
preaching especially on generosity and giving up on material possessions. In fact, this is clearly
demonstrated by the rule that each Child of Virtue would need to submit 20% of their annual income

The Usefulness Of Study Of Bank Cost And Efficiency
Comment on the usefulness of study of bank cost and efficiency in evaluating bank performance.
Introduction
From the very beginning of the bank history, we already know that the main operation of bank is to
take loan and to make deposit. Since the first bank established in 12th century, bank is no more a
simple institution where we exchange money but an agency considered to be speculative and hopeful.
There is no doubt that the prosperity in modern society benefits a lot from the development of
commercial activities, where bank plays a main role in. People make money through work or
investment. So they divide their income into two major parts : one part is considered as profit ,with
which people may consume or do reinvestment or put it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Except being alert to those highly explored risks, what commercial banks concern about is the profit.
Today, in order to make business more efficient, it is a wise choice for both banks and other kinds of
companies to do financing and list practice. With this important step, banks acquire more powerful
support to develop branches into a wider scale market: running global business, like HSBC. From the
other hand, this can be a unprecedent challenge to the local banks. The main reason why big
companies are successful is they do know how to function the business skillful. Works are separated
into small pieces and more professional staff are hired to solve special problems. This can be an
advantage that local banks lack. Competition makes it clear that local banks have to find their own
advantage to survive in the crucial game.
Other competition from financial institution
Even some big companies start to provide relative banking services. Countless financial derivatives
also consist as a main part in banking.
Although in the textbook the main assumption is without mortgage, which means that it does not

Cannabis Has Been Proven to Have Therapeutic Benefits
Marijuana has been successfully used in pain management due to its analgesic and anti nausea
properties. Due to this reason, medical practitioners have in the past prescribed it to terminally ill
cancer or AIDS patients and muscle spasms victims. Currently, 15 states have legalized marijuana for
medical use making it easily available too not only terminally ill but others who report chronic pain or
severe nausea . This trend is likely to give rise to substance abuse with socioeconomic impact on the
society.
What is Cannabis? Cannabis occurs naturally as dried flowering of cannabis sativa plant.[1]
Commonly known as marijuana, It is either consumed by smoking or as an infused edible form.
Cannabinoids are the active compounds extracted from cannabis. Currently, marijuana may be
obtained at registered pharmacies over the counter in many states only on the recommendation of
physician. As it is not classified as medicine, prescription cannot be dispensed in measurable quantity.
Not only is it available in raw form but is also sold as a constituent of other edible products such as
muffins, lemon bars, lollipops and gummy bears! This availability of the product in such infused
forms gives the users a false sense of harmlessness associated with its use. The two proven indications
for the use of the synthetic cannabinoid (dronabinol) are chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting
and AIDS related anorexia. Other possible effects that may prove beneficial in the oncology include

Vacations
Cruises appeal to many travelers because they are considered all inclusive vacations. Pay one price
and receive accommodations, meals, entertainment, and transportation between island and port
destinations. But once onboard, many cruisers find themselves shelling out hundreds of additional
dollars for shore excursions, alcoholic beverages, and gratuities. What happened to their supposedly
all inclusive vacation? Many land based resorts also refer to themselves as all inclusive, yet [the

Adventure is limited to basketball, shuffleboard or the all access ship pool. Cruise ships look boring
and a person would float along. The land base resorts are not bound by the imagination of the cruise
director. Patrons of resorts can plan (with the help of a concierge) the ultimate vacation based on their
individual preferences. You can hand pick your own adventure from island exploration, deep sea
fishing, catamaran sails, guided island tours, mountain biking, dune buggy off roading excursions,
dolphin encounters, scuba diving, horseback riding and more. The choices are endless and some are
included in the package. The not so adventurous can take relaxing strolls alone the beach, play
volleyball, paddle boat, surf or other less strenuous activities. As for night life, patrons can choose to
party on the resort, attend All White parties, talent shows, beach parties, bonfires or listen to live
bands. The more daring could party with the locals to experience rich, authentic Caribbean culture
first hand.
All inclusive, whether land resort or cruises, are the preferred way to vacation and provide a great
value for the cost. Depending on the client s budget and time constraints, cruises are wonderful
getaways but land resorts offer greater variety and excitement. The decision depends on rather a
person loves land or water. In conclusion, the abundance that an all inclusive trip has to offer will

Analysis of Robert Frost´s Poem Out, Out Essay
Robert Frost s poem Out, Out is about a boy who has his arm sawed off during work and asks his
sister not to let the doctor amputate his arm, he then realizes he s lost too much blood and then dies
while doctors try to save him. After his death everyone else continues on with their work and lives.
Frost uses a lot of end stopped lines, enjambment, repetition and personification among others in his
lines of poetry.
Frost uses a lot of end stopped lines and enjambment in the lines of his poem. Both have an effect on

Nature is calm and serene, while this boy s life has changed in a matter of seconds from living to dead
in a tragic event. The end stopped lines and enjambments are used very well in the remainder of the
poem.
Frost s poem is interesting because he uses personification and repetition in describing the saw, the
saw is given life; it snarled and rattled . Frost talks about the saw as though it were a person when as it
ran light, or had to bear a load like the saw can feel the weight of its work. The narrator depicts the
scene as the saw and the boy interacting in a human way. As if to prove saws know what supper
meant, / Leaped out at the boy s hand, or seemed to leap
The boy and the saw connect during the boys excitement over dinner and Frost makes it seem as
though the saw was also excited leading to them both jumping. The saw is personified again as it is
said to have leaped to meet the hand and then cut it off. The following line continues the same way.
Neither refused the meeting. But the hand! The saw is brought to life and it becomes the antagonist in
the poem as it chops off the boy s hand and not once does Frost blame the boy in the accident. After
the hand is chopped off the saw is not mentioned again as the poem continues with the boy.
Frost has a compelling way of writing the poem, in the beginnings of the poem there is a lot of
metaphors and descriptions of the setting and the saw and the boy. Once the boy is injured

1.5 points were deducted
Correct:
Choice B is incorrect because too much carbohydrates lead to the cause of coliform bacteria to die, not
acidophilic bacteria. Acidophilic bacteria means acid loving bacteria, so the heightened ph would not
kill them, it would make more of them grow. If more of them grow, the LPS that causes inflammation
is not circulating, because they would only circulate if the bacteria dies.
Incorrect:
Choice C is correct because acidosis degrades tight junctions between enterocytes in the colon and the
cecum, which in turn lets more endotoxins from the bacteria into the blood that causes the
inflammation in laminitis.
Choice D is correct because the acidosis kills coliform bacteria, releasing LPS into the system and the
LPS causes the inflammation that in turn reduces blood flow and kills the tissues that cause laminitis.

William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay
Tuttle 1
Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of
Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations,
adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told
to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the
dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the
inevitable results of such an event?
The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about
his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes
against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with
a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that
Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic
Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a
nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is
unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Because of his early and continuing history of
foolishly taking unnecessary risks, his excessive pride and lack of humility, the diminishing quality of

St. Augustine of Hippo, Bishop and Theologian Essay
St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, was one of the greatest theologians of his time. He is still regarded in
the highest manner. He was raised in a divided home, but through time he found the truth. He was
always a superb student. He fully mastered Latin; however, he never grasped Greek. He was also very
crafty in speech a black belt of rhetoric if you will. After his teenage flings and rebellions, he found a
heretical sect in which he became involved for a while. He traveled and landed in Milan for a while
where he met the bishop. He then discovered that Christianity was a suitable religion for a
philosopher. Finally, via Bishop Ambrose, Augustine converted to Christianity in 386. Later, he wrote

father wanted Augustine to be a lawyer until they found that he had such an inclination for rhetoric.

the people with the real stuff do not get into the high offices. After his schooling, he went on to

A Proverb once stated, Opposites attract. Scientist, chemist, doctors, and even matchmakers around

relationship between Lady Brett Ashley and Robert Cohn proves this statement wrong. Throughout
the novel, Lady Brett has many types of relationships with a variety of people, most of whom are men.

seems to tag along with Brett, Jake, and Mike and never joins in on the conversations. Brett is always

Spain for the week of fiestas and bull fights, they all go out drinking and Mike Campbell, who also
does not like Cohn, badly embarrasses Cohn in front of the whole group. Mike begins yelling, Do you
think you amount to something, Cohn? Do you think you belong here among us? People who are out

tell him to his face. However Mike is not afraid to speak the truth to Cohn. Not only do Cohn and
Brett have different levels of popularity, but also different levels of maturity.
Throughout the book, Cohn s age difference separates him from all of the others. Cohn often is very

Current Views On Behavior Parenting Practices
CURRENT VIEWS Some of the current view on ODD is that it develops due to ineffective parenting
practices. Meaning that the parent of the child does not have the proper skill to raise the child
properly. If the child continues to be defiant the child will most likely develop a pattern, this could
lead to the child being diagnosed with ODD. If the parent takes the child to get treatment before it
starts to escalate they will hopefully be able to change the child s ways so that they will be able to
improve their life (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015)
DIAGNOSIS
For a person to be diagnosed with ODD the person must meet the symptoms of ODD. If the person
that is displaying the eight symptoms of ODD they have to be persistent for 6 months until they can be
diagnosed (Drabick, 2010). This is a very important prat of diagnosis because if the person does not
have the symptoms for that specific about of time the person that is diagnosing them will not be able
to consider this disorder because it did not meet the diagnostic requirements. When the client meets
the criteria for diagnosis they will then be analyzed and then treated for the disorder that is given if
any is given to the client.
AGE OF ONSET AND OTHER FACTORS The age of onset for ODD would be during the early
years of childhood and adolescents (Essau, 2003). The child will most likely show these symptoms
around people that they are the most comfortable. An example of this would be Claire. When Claire
was in the presence of

Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary
Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames
the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in the
dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism between
the Serbs and Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs claimed that
their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia.
Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies
instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the
sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo,
full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force. With regard to
Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their ground against Milosevic and declared
independence in 1991. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

way, the Yugoslavian republics would have been able to come together and develop their military

Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight, And Thomas...
Knights often had a certain chivalry code that they had to follow, in (Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight) and (Morte D Arthur) by Sir Thomas Malory their are examples of chivalry. Knights often had
a certain code they had to follow usually relating to religion, moral, and social code. This system kept
the knights usually under strict order. The knights had many expectations for following this certain
code, and many of them took it seriously. In (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) and (Morte D Arthur)
there s three main points that knights must follow for their chivalry code, religion, moral, and
protecting women.
The first example of the chivalry code is in (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) where the knight has
to follow religion. These knights often had a very good rep for the things they followed. For they were
very strict when it came to most things, religion being one of the top things they always followed.
Gawain the knight gets put into a situation where he is tested by religion. While Gawain is staying at

Economic Policies Of El Salvador And Other Nations Essay
Dollarization: A Comparison of Economic Policies in El Salvador and Other Nations Dollarization is
the process in which nations replace their domestic currencies [with foreign legal tender] ...to obtain
economic growth and stability (Rivera Solis 330). The US dollar is the most common choice of
exchange in this practice, though the adoption of other first world states currencies may be entertained
as well. Though its effects are not instant, US dollarization has brought many gradual benefits to the
economic statuses of several countries. There are two types of dollarization: official and unofficial. In
the process of official dollarization, a state gives complete monetary control to a foreign nation,
ceding its right to both create a central bank and issue a domestic form of currency. Where as a nation
loses its sovereignty to make decisions concerning its money supply in official dollarization, unofficial
dollarization allows states to keep most of its control in place. Nations who implement dollarization
unofficially keep their ability to own a central bank to fall back on, in cases of economic emergency,
and regulate their own currency. Some studies encourage the promotion of official dollarization, while
other scorn it s outcome and option for its slighter counterpart, partial dollarization, instead. This
paper explores the differences in both policies and the effects of dollarization on four separate nations:
El Salvador, Panama, Zimbabwe, and the British Virgin

Narrative Of A Mother Daughter
A tired mother reclines before a long mirror, beginning to prepare her ten year old daughter for bed.
As she works out the last few tangles from her hair, the woman s gaze turns to her reflection the
dulling of her once youthful body palpable in the company of her youthful daughter. Author Sharon
Olds uses the narrative of a mother daughter relationship to address issues of aging, death and
replacement, juxtaposing the youth of a ten year old with the maturity of the thirty five year old. 35/10
takes readers on one woman s journey of sorrow as she copes with the loss of her youth, but deeper
than that, her confrontation with grief as she realizes her daughter will one day replace her. The
woman feels as though she is beginning her life s decline just as her daughter begins her ascent into
womanhood, inquiring, ...Why is it / just as we begin to go / they begin to arrive... (lines 4 6). Olds
takes on the voice of this despondent woman in her poem 35/10, using rich, honest language and
metaphoric comparisons to communicate observations about the cycle of life and the pattern of
replacement. In the main body of her poem, Olds lists a sequence of three key metaphoric
comparisons between the woman and her daughter s changing bodies. Both characters are
experiencing small previews of their futures through developmental transformations, the younger a
preview of womanhood and the older a preview of aging and ultimately future replacement. The
comparison is made in the same

Response 1:
According to the information from the caselet, Deep Blue Robotics (DBR) might be facing the
following threat:
1. Malicious Software (Malware)
Malware is a class of malicious code that incorporates viruses, worms, and Trojan horses. Specialized
communication tools are used by destructive malwares in order to spread. Malwares could be
distributed by means of email and texts, Trojan horses dropped from web sites, and virus infected
records obtained from peer to peer connections. Malwares looks for existing flaws and loopholes in
the system architecture to make a peaceful and simple entrance.
Head office and manufacturing company resources are connected through Virtual Private Connections
(VPN) which has been setup using Fiber Optic cables; to ensure a secure data transmission between
connected devices. A security threat still exists if either end of the connected devices is infected by a
malware. This can potentially result in loss of information, information damage, or even equipment
damage.
2. Social Engineering
Social engineering is the ability of manipulating people to give up confidential information. The most
common Social Engineering attack is targeted to trick the victim into giving away their passwords or
bank information or having someone access your computer to secretly install a malware which can
access your passwords, bank information and other sensitive information stored in that computer.

Spiegelman s Maus series, which suggest that extreme sufferings and disasters challenge one s
perception of morality and human ethics. Greed may be the determining factor for the persistence of
moral ignorance. Art through many instances of Maus I, suggests that severe situations cause hunger
for power and money to overtake one s natural inclination to morality. Spiegelman stresses the
paradox of Jewish police, by simply bolding the word Jewish and removing the borders that contain
the action in the second panel, (Maus 1, 87). Furthermore, the reader will notice the vivid contrast
Spiegelman portrays in the back to back panels of the subsequent pages, between Vladek s father, and
a Jewish gestapo (Page 88, panel 4, 5; and Page 89, panel 3,5). Despite the resemblance of these two
figures, aesthetic differences suggest various hierarchical distinctions: the policeman s text bubble is
formed by jagged lines, and large letters, dominating the feeble comments of Jewish citizens under it.
Spiegelman argues, that despite the obvious similarity of these two Jewish figures, the authoritative
power of his job blinds him from any moral obligation to his fellow Jews. The similar comparison
below these panels, in which the gestapo now appears as a blackened person, reveal the true colors of
his personality. In addition, on pages 114 115, Spiegelman displays the lack of morality without
monetary incentive. Jakov refuses to face a helpless Vladek, with an offering of assistance, but he
completely turns around and openly accepts the offer in the midst of numerous Nazi guards, when
Vladek proposes a bribe. The first panel on the following page, with the inclusion of the secret
transaction of a jewel, implies that Haskel s rescue would have never occurred without his monetary
gain. These symbolic and metaphorical representations,

Ecological Restoration At This Site Essay
Late stage shrubsThis site is located on Gunn Road on the outskirts of Matamata, Waikato. A tributary
of the Waitoa River flows through the middle of the site. The majority of the site has wet soils, and in
winter some areas can be prone to flooding, particularly nearer to the stream. Regardless the ground
tends to be boggy, particularly in winter. Consequently, this was historically conifer forest or swaps
(Waikato Regional Council, n.d. b). Currently, willow, grass and blackberry dominate the majority of
the site, with some existing flax plants in the wetter areas. For the most part the stream is fenced and
surrounded by a dairy farm, however often cows still get near the waterway, due to weak fences. It is
clear that this is a degraded site, with little indigenous flora or fauna. Consequently, there is a need for
ecological restoration at this site. Ecological restoration is the process of managing a site to return it to
its historic state in turns of ecosystem health and sustainability.
The general aim for this restoration is to eventually restore eight hectares of land adjacent to
tributaries to the Waitoa River to native forest, with the intention for future restoration projects to
continue along the Waitoa River to develop further riparian zones and forest patches. This will aid
biodiversity across the wider Waikato Region and also improve landscape amenity. A positive impact
on water quality is also anticipated, which will in turn improve recreation values for food

Explain How The Law Enforcement Powers And...
Through the Law Enforcement Powers and Responsibilities Act 2002 (NSW) (LEPRA), police have
certain powers to help them do their jobs and enforce the law. But these powers that police have been
granted also have limits to help protect the rights of the victim, the suspect and the society particularly
when these powers affect the civil liberties of members in the community whom the police serve as
stated by the former Attorney General Robert Debus.
According to LEPRA, the main powers police are granted are to detain and question suspects, search
property and seize evidence, use technologies that may help the case (i.e mobile phones, computers),
use reasonable force is absolutely necessary and, as a last resort, arrest and interrogate the suspect(s).
They also have the power to recommend to the magistrate whether bail should be granted to suspects.

Failure to abide by these procedures can result in a mistrial or exclusion of evidence. Types of
improper procedure can include a non consented and unreasonable search being conducted, entry onto
a property without lawful authority (such as a warrant), an arrest without reasonable suspicion, arrest
purely for questioning, use of excessive force, failing to allow an arrested person to have their rights,
and keeping an uncharged suspect in custody for more than 4 hours (8 with consent form the
magistrate). This rule does not apply to suspects of terrorism, who can be held in custody without a
charge for up to 14 days. These procedures help protect the rights and safety of victims, suspects and

The Components Of Focusing To The Baylor Student Life Center
When walking through the Baylor Student Life Center, swimming at a YMCA pool, lifting at your
local gym or even jogging along with your school s track there are always 6 common focus areas you
can examine. When going to the Baylor Student Life Center to speak to the assistant director for
campus recreation Jeff Walter, I kept the following 6 topics in mind for questioning. Components of
facilities are taken into account, staffing needs and qualifications, risk management plans, ADA
compliance, signage and lastly general facility maintenance plans. So what do these focus areas look
like at Baylor s SLC? First let us discuss components of the SLC s facility. When talking to Mr.
Walter, he explained that the SLC uses a membership desk, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Risk management should include access to facility, an emergency action plan, PAR Q, informed
consent, and staff certification. Baylor s SLC is a textbook example of good risk management
planning. The Student Life Center has one accessible entrance to the facility which is monitored and
controlled by swiping ID card or using biometrics to confirm membership. Practicing fire safety drills
at least once a semester and every time the fire alarm gets tripped, active shooter precautions, tornado
and severe weather protocol. These protocols have been taught to all workers and booklets are
provided for exits and safe locations during such events. These locations must of course be accessible
to every member in the building including handicapped or disabled guests. Elevators are available
along with accessible routes and areas that are wheelchair or crutch accessible. This is due to the fact
that all facilities should be ADA compliant. Signage, warning, and ADA signs should be hung where
people can obviously view them. Jeff Walter described that all these signs have been posted above
every water fountain in the building, high traffic locations and safe areas such as locker rooms,
stairwells, the 1st floor restrooms. ADA signs are put on stairwells, doors and elevators while OSHA
signs tend to be where employees must walk. Walter s commented on the fact that OSHA signs tend to
be mostly in the pool area due to labeling, documents, and chemical factors. The

Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning
It is only when all these things, names and definitions, visual and other sensations are rubbed together
and subjected to tests in which questions and answers are exchanged in good faith and without malice
that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding and intelligence
flashes out and illuminates the subject at hand. Plato had this to say about dialogue and its importance
to the process of education. Does this sound like the educational system that is in place today in the
United States? Odds are that it does not. What does being educated mean anyway? What is an
undergraduate university education? These questions have been ... Show more content on

The university, or the school.
Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to
begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever changing buildings and
monuments that make up what people think of as, the university. The definition of a school according
to Webman s Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. A group of humans moving together through the
mind. This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and
walls of a particular place.
When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in
life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of
the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be
nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half
the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and
go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education.
Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of
a well rounded person is one that is still talked about today. The ancient Greeks incorporated both
physical and mental exercises into their educational process. They were

The History Of Heroin
Heroin, which is a very popular drug of choice in the American drug culture today, is not a new drug
that just showed up in the late 1960 s, nor are its negative effects unique to modern times. Heroin is an
opium derivative and, as with any of the opium derivatives, there is a severe physical/mental
dependency that develops when Heroin is abused.
The Birth of the American Heroin Addict
In the mid to late 1800 s, opium was a fairly popular drug. Opium dens were scattered throughout
what we know today as the Wild West. The opium influx during this period was due in large part to
the drug being brought into the country via Chinese immigrants who came here to work on the
railroads.
Accurate American history tells us that famous names of the period ... Show more content on

Even though no actual statistics were kept on addiction at this time, the problem had grown to large
enough proportions to raise serious concerns from the medical profession. Doctors became perplexed
and were completely in the dark as to how to treat this new epidemic.
By 1874 the answer to this increasing problem was thought to be found in the invention of a new drug
in Germany. This new wonder drug was called Heroin, after its German trademarked name. Heroin
was imported into the United States shortly after it was invented. The sales pitch that created an
instant market to American doctors and their morphine addicted patients was that Heroin was a safe,
non addictive substitute for morphine.
Hence, the heroin addict was born and has been present in American culture ever since.
From the late 1800 s to the early 1900 s the reputable drug companies of the day began manufacturing
over the counter drug kits. These kits contained a glass barreled hypodermic needle and vials of
opiates (morphine or heroin) and/or cocaine packaged neatly in attractive engraved tin cases.
Laudanum (opium in an alcohol base) was also a very popular elixir that was used to treat a variety of
ills. Laudanum was administered to kids and adults alike as freely as aspirin is used

Elon Musk is one of those individuals, and he s currently valued at $11.9 billion. But how did this South African born entrepreneur make his way into virtually every technological industry on the planet? How did he become the space traveling, futuristic car selling, loudmouthed computer genius we all know today? Elon Musk took an interest in computing and innovation from a very young age. By his thirteenth birthday, he had already taught himself programming, constructed a complex space themed computer game, and sold it to a large corporation. But the notions of progress, innovation and wild success were so pivotally important to Musk that he truly felt that this was his calling. He and his brother Kimbal soon created Zip2, an Internet software product that allowed newspapers to create city guides for their readers. After four years of expansion, including contracts with The New York Times, Musk and his associates sold the company for a whopping $307 million. At just 28, he was already a millionaire on his way to defying even more odds and pursuing important goals. I always invest my own money in the companies that I create. I don t believe in the whole thing of just using other people s money. I don t think that s right. I m not going to ask other people to invest in something if I m not prepared to do so myself. Antagonist In A Midsummer Night Tales and stories have been told since the beginning of time, handed down from each generation to the next, and each story has left its mark on the listener even if it is not apparent. Parts of the story are remembered and it is the goal of an author or storyteller to leave an impact of each who hears their tale. The idea is to have a plot interesting enough to hold the attention and then to develop conflict those experiencing will remember. Part of the way this is accomplished is through the characters, not always the protagonist, but the antagonist as well. • 5. The Importance Of Social Cohesion Australia flourishes in an environment of a variety of cultures. We pertain to the ideas of acceptance and understanding of individuals that have the intention to become apart of team Australia. But what do we know Australia as? A community of equal citizens Abbott declares (The Conversation, 2014). We can all assume that we as individuals idealise a country of equity and equality in all aspects of life, whether it be race, gender, beliefs or political views. In a world where we want fairness and equality, we coin the concept of social and cultural cohesion, which can be defined as the ties that hold people together (Humanrights.gov.au, 2017). Moreover, social cohesion is regarded as a shared vision, and is a process rather than an outcome (Scanlonfoundation.org.au, 2017). Jenson hypothesised a framework that identifies the importances of social cohesion between individuals. He states that the disruption of social cohesion effects dimensions of belonging, legitimacy, recognition, participation and inclusion (Study.com, 2017). In contrast to this we come across an unwanted prejudice and discrimination towards certain aspects of life. We define this as cultural conflict, the conflict that occurs when different cultural values and beliefs clash with opposing values and beliefs (LeBaron, 2003). In regards to Jenson s framework of social cohesion, cultural conflict revolves around the five dimension. With disruption to this, views are altered into a more negative outlook, ... Two major points of the manifesto explain how class relationships are defined by an era s means of production. Also, the manifesto incorporates how class struggles, or exploitation of one class by another, are motivating force behind all historical developments. If those two points are not followed then a revolution occurs and a new class emerges as the ruling one. This outcome represents the march of history which is driven by economic variables. • 15. Media Violence And Crime Violence Media Violence and Crimes There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA. In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual speculation. Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of negative influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical Association, with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media violence. • 16. The Importance Of Gender Equality In The Military In a world where political correctness reigns supreme and gender equality are major concerns and talking points for a lot of people, there are some circumstances where gender equality just does not make sense. There are times when pushing for gender equality causes only harm and in fact, damages its own cause. In the Military, this has taken the form of pushing to have women be allowed to serve in front lines combat units. In the major political push for gender equality in all jobs, some of these pushes for change will cause only harm. Women should not be allowed to serve in front line combat units because of their biology they are physically incapable of the same things as men are, there will be unit cohesion problems that do not exist and there are health concerns for women have that men do not have. Beginning in early 2013, the Secretary of Defense chose to rescind the policy known as the Direct Combat Exclusion Rule (Batterton, Hale, Murphy, 2016). This policy is what restricted front line combat units to men only. After this policy was rescinded, the different branches of the Military have opened their training programs to allow women the chance to pass them. The problem with this is that along with opening these programs to women, they have had to modify the training programs to be gender neutral (Roulo, 2013). This means that if the standards are too high for women to pass, the tests would seem biased. However, if we lower them, then the recruits which pass the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frost talks about the saw as though it were a person when as it ran light, or had to bear a load like the saw can feel the weight of its work. The narrator depicts the scene as the saw and the boy interacting in a human way. The saw is brought to life and it becomes the antagonist in the poem as it chops off the boy s hand and not once does Frost blame the boy in the accident. William Shakespeare s Beowulf Essay Tuttle 1 Beowulf Unfit to be King of the Geats For 1000 years we have been reading of the adventures of Beowulf, and his story was told for hundreds of years before. The tale is full of trials, tribulations, adventure, great loss, great victory, and wonderful battles. But, what do we make of it? Is it a tale told to illustrate the virtues of the epic hero himself, or is it a cautionary tale, told to warn the readers of the dangers of allowing unqualified men (or women) to ascend to a position of leadership and the inevitable results of such an event? The author of Beowulf takes great care to describe the hero in detail, and we, as readers, learn about his abundant courage and strength. We are taken on a tour through his early struggles, his successes against the great monster Grendel and Grendel s mother, and his ultimate demise during his battle with a dragon. But one needs to analyze the unstated theme in order to fully appreciate the effect that Beowulf has had on readers for generations. Stanley Greenfield, in his article Beowulf and Epic Tragedy writes that, in the end, For all of Beowulf s efforts, he is reaped only with useless gold, for a nation soon to perish (104). This is representative of the core issue at hand in this epic. Beowulf is unfit to be a great king, despite his physical prowess. Meaning that the parent of the child does not have the proper skill to raise the child properly. If the child continues to be defiant the child will most likely develop a pattern, this could lead to the child being diagnosed with ODD. If the parent takes the child to get treatment before it starts to escalate they will hopefully be able to change the child s ways so that they will be able to improve their life (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2015) DIAGNOSIS For a person to be diagnosed with ODD the person must meet the symptoms of ODD. If the person that is displaying the eight symptoms of ODD they have to be persistent for 6 months until they can be diagnosed (Drabick, 2010). This is a very important prat of diagnosis because if the person does not have the symptoms for that specific about of time the person that is diagnosing them will not be able to consider this disorder because it did not meet the diagnostic requirements. The Serbs claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force. Economic Policies Of El Salvador And Other Nations Essay Dollarization: A Comparison of Economic Policies in El Salvador and Other Nations Dollarization is the process in which nations replace their domestic currencies [with foreign legal tender] ...to obtain economic growth and stability (Rivera Solis 330). The US dollar is the most common choice of exchange in this practice, though the adoption of other first world states currencies may be entertained as well. Though its effects are not instant, US dollarization has brought many gradual benefits to the economic statuses of several countries. There are two types of dollarization: official and unofficial. In the process of official dollarization, a state gives complete monetary control to a foreign nation, ceding its right to both create a central bank and issue a domestic form of currency. Where as a nation loses its sovereignty to make decisions concerning its money supply in official dollarization, unofficial dollarization allows states to keep most of its control in place. Nations who implement dollarization unofficially keep their ability to own a central bank to fall back on, in cases of economic emergency, and regulate their own currency. Some studies encourage the promotion of official dollarization, while other scorn it s outcome and option for its slighter counterpart, partial dollarization, instead. • 41. Analysis Of Art Spiegelman s Maus Series David Brooks claims that Even though race and ethnicity run deep in American society...[people] are amazingly undiverse in their values, politics and mores, (Brooks 2,4). Hunter S. Thompson, through his striking Gonzo Journalistic Style, also approaches a conclusion that one s human nature contradicts his/her views on morality. These two literary discussions provide significant insight into Art Spiegelman s Maus series, which suggest that extreme sufferings and disasters challenge one s perception of morality and human ethics. Greed may be the determining factor for the persistence of moral ignorance. Art through many instances of Maus I, suggests that severe situations cause hunger for power and money to overtake one s natural inclination to morality. Spiegelman stresses the paradox of Jewish police, by simply bolding the word Jewish and removing the borders that contain the action in the second panel, (Maus 1, 87). Furthermore, the reader will notice the vivid contrast Spiegelman portrays in the back to back panels of the subsequent pages, between Vladek s father, and a Jewish gestapo (Page 88, panel 4, 5; and Page 89, panel 3,5). Despite the resemblance of these two figures, aesthetic differences suggest various hierarchical distinctions: the policeman s text bubble is formed by jagged lines, and large letters, dominating the feeble comments of Jewish citizens under it. Spiegelman argues, that despite the obvious similarity of these two Jewish figures, the authoritative power of his job blinds him from any moral obligation to his fellow Jews. The similar comparison below these panels, in which the gestapo now appears as a blackened person, reveal the true colors of his personality. In addition, on pages 114 115, Spiegelman displays the lack of morality without monetary incentive. Jakov refuses to face a helpless Vladek, with an offering of assistance, but he completely turns around and openly accepts the offer in the midst of numerous Nazi guards, when Vladek proposes a bribe. The first panel on the following page, with the inclusion of the secret transaction of a jewel, implies that Haskel s rescue would have never occurred without his monetary gain. A tributary of the Waitoa River flows through the middle of the site. The majority of the site has wet soils, and in winter some areas can be prone to flooding, particularly nearer to the stream. Regardless the ground tends to be boggy, particularly in winter. Consequently, this was historically conifer forest or swaps (Waikato Regional Council, n.d. b). Currently, willow, grass and blackberry dominate the majority of the site, with some existing flax plants in the wetter areas. For the most part the stream is fenced and surrounded by a dairy farm, however often cows still get near the waterway, due to weak fences. It is clear that this is a degraded site, with little indigenous flora or fauna. Consequently, there is a need for ecological restoration at this site. Ecological restoration is the process of managing a site to return it to its historic state in turns of ecosystem health and sustainability. The general aim for this restoration is to eventually restore eight hectares of land adjacent to tributaries to the Waitoa River to native forest, with the intention for future restoration projects to continue along the Waitoa River to develop further riparian zones and forest patches. This will aid biodiversity across the wider Waikato Region and also improve landscape amenity. A positive impact on water quality is also anticipated, which will in turn improve recreation values for food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Explain How The Law Enforcement Powers And... Through the Law Enforcement Powers and Responsibilities Act 2002 (NSW) (LEPRA), police have certain powers to help them do their jobs and enforce the law. But these powers that police have been granted also have limits to help protect the rights of the victim, the suspect and the society particularly when these powers affect the civil liberties of members in the community whom the police serve as stated by the former Attorney General Robert Debus. According to LEPRA, the main powers police are granted are to detain and question suspects, search property and seize evidence, use technologies that may help the case (i.e mobile phones, computers), use reasonable force is absolutely necessary and, as a last resort, arrest and interrogate the suspect(s). They also have the power to recommend to the magistrate whether bail should be granted to suspects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. The Components Of Focusing To The Baylor Student Life Center When walking through the Baylor Student Life Center, swimming at a YMCA pool, lifting at your local gym or even jogging along with your school s track there are always 6 common focus areas you can examine. When going to the Baylor Student Life Center to speak to the assistant director for campus recreation Jeff Walter, I kept the following 6 topics in mind for questioning. Components of facilities are taken into account, staffing needs and qualifications, risk management plans, ADA compliance, signage and lastly general facility maintenance plans. So what do these focus areas look like at Baylor s SLC? First let us discuss components of the SLC s facility. When talking to Mr. Walter, he explained that the SLC uses a membership desk, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Risk management should include access to facility, an emergency action plan, PAR Q, informed consent, and staff certification. Baylor s SLC is a textbook example of good risk management planning. The Student Life Center has one accessible entrance to the facility which is monitored and controlled by swiping ID card or using biometrics to confirm membership. Practicing fire safety drills at least once a semester and every time the fire alarm gets tripped, active shooter precautions, tornado and severe weather protocol. These protocols have been taught to all workers and booklets are provided for exits and safe locations during such events. These locations must of course be accessible to every member in the building including handicapped or disabled guests. Elevators are available along with accessible routes and areas that are wheelchair or crutch accessible. This is due to the fact that all facilities should be ADA compliant. Signage, warning, and ADA signs should be hung where people can obviously view them. Jeff Walter described that all these signs have been posted above every water fountain in the building, high traffic locations and safe areas such as locker rooms, stairwells, the 1st floor restrooms. ADA signs are put on stairwells, doors and elevators while OSHA signs tend to be where employees must walk. Walter s commented on the fact that OSHA signs tend to be mostly in the pool area due to labeling, documents, and chemical factors. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning... Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning It is only when all these things, names and definitions, visual and other sensations are rubbed together and subjected to tests in which questions and answers are exchanged in good faith and without malice that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding and intelligence flashes out and illuminates the subject at hand. Plato had this to say about dialogue and its importance to the process of education. Does this sound like the educational system that is in place today in the United States? Odds are that it does not. What does being educated mean anyway? What is an undergraduate university education? These questions have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The university, or the school. Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever changing buildings and monuments that make up what people think of as, the university. The definition of a school according to Webman s Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. A group of humans moving together through the mind. This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and walls of a particular place. When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education. Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of a well rounded person is one that is still talked about today. The ancient Greeks incorporated both physical and mental exercises into their educational process. They were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The History Of Heroin Heroin, which is a very popular drug of choice in the American drug culture today, is not a new drug that just showed up in the late 1960 s, nor are its negative effects unique to modern times. Heroin is an opium derivative and, as with any of the opium derivatives, there is a severe physical/mental dependency that develops when Heroin is abused. The Birth of the American Heroin Addict In the mid to late 1800 s, opium was a fairly popular drug. Opium dens were scattered throughout what we know today as the Wild West. The opium influx during this period was due in large part to the drug being brought into the country via Chinese immigrants who came here to work on the railroads. Accurate American history tells us that famous names of the period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though no actual statistics were kept on addiction at this time, the problem had grown to large enough proportions to raise serious concerns from the medical profession. Doctors became perplexed and were completely in the dark as to how to treat this new epidemic. By 1874 the answer to this increasing problem was thought to be found in the invention of a new drug in Germany. This new wonder drug was called Heroin, after its German trademarked name. Heroin was imported into the United States shortly after it was invented. The sales pitch that created an instant market to American doctors and their morphine addicted patients was that Heroin was a safe, non addictive substitute for morphine. Hence, the heroin addict was born and has been present in American culture ever since. From the late 1800 s to the early 1900 s the reputable drug companies of the day began manufacturing over the counter drug kits. These kits contained a glass barreled hypodermic needle and vials of opiates (morphine or heroin) and/or cocaine packaged neatly in attractive engraved tin cases. Laudanum (opium in an alcohol base) was also a very popular elixir that was used to treat a variety of ills. Laudanum was administered to kids and adults alike as freely as aspirin is used ...
