World s Increasing Demand For Energy Essay
World s increasing demand for energy is fulfilled by different sectors (like Oil, Coal, Natural Gas,
Hydro, Nuclear and others). Fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy powering the world
economy, supplying 60% of the energy increase out to 2035. Within that, gas looks set to become
the fastest growing fossil fuel, spurred on by ample supplies and supportive environmental policies.
1.1 BACKGROUND
From the advert of the modern oil and gas industry, petroleum geologists and engineers have
followed a conventional route for exploration; look for hydrocarbon source rocks, find reservoir
quality rocks where hydrocarbons can accumulate, identify a trapping mechanism and then drill a
well. But a revolution is taking place in the exploration and production (E P) industry. Rocks that in
the past were of little interest, other than as potential source rocks, are today being actively pursued
as potential reservoirs. When considering unconventional resource plays, the focus is on finding
organic shale s. This development represents a fundamental shift in the way exploration companies
consider resource plays. Engineers and geologists studying shale gas resources find that reservoir
can lead to process adaptation and refinement of techniques. It is important to integrate data from
many sources and at many scales to optimally drill, complete and stimulate wells to produce
hydrocarbons from their source rocks. The two other type of existing unconventional gas resources

Story Of An Hour Setting Essay
Uses of Setting in The Story of an Hour
Setting plays an extremely important role in all stories as a device to help create the situation
characters are in, but sometimes the setting itself tells a story. Within Kate Chopin s The Story of
an Hour the setting is used to not only reveal the feelings Louise Mallard has about her marriage,
but also Victorian era marriages as a whole. The Story of an Hour is a short story about a woman
who was told her husband was dead. People are expecting a reaction of grief from her, due to the
fact that those around her believe she is a perfect Victorian housewife. However, she can t help
but feel the weight of the world lifted off of her shoulders as her obligations to her marriage are
finally coming to an end. Through Kate Chopin s use of limited setting with Mrs. Mallard s room,
the staircase, and the window of this house, an idea of Victorian Era marriages is displayed.

Mallard feels, but also attempts to reveal wives view of marriage during the time period. The
staircase is where Victorian era norms were affecting Louise s reactions and displayed self. In
the beginning of this short story, after she hears about her husband s supposed death, Chopin
writes, She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (1). While Mrs.
Mallard is on the staircase she always keeps her true feelings to herself and shows a fake version
which adheres to the norms that not only her sister but also her husband s friend are expecting of
her. This is shown later in the story when it is revealed to the reader that she actually was not
happy with her marriage and was excited to hear of her husband s death. Chopin uses the staircase
to represent a place where other s opinions affect how women at the time acted, alluding to the
societal norms of the Victorian

A Lesson Before Dying Essay
In Ernest J. Gaines novel A Lesson Before Dying, a young African American, Jefferson, is caught
in the middle of a liquor shootout, and as the only survivor is convicted of murder and sentenced
to death. During Jefferson s trial, his attorney calls him a hog in an effort to persuade the jury that
he could not have possibly planned a crime like this. Having heard this, Jefferson s godmother,
Miss Emma, calls on the local schoolteacher, Grant Wiggins, to visit Jefferson in prison and help
prove to the community, more importantly the white people, that Jefferson is indeed a man, not a
hog. Throughout the book, Grant often contemplates why he is helping Miss Emma; he debates
within himself whether he should stay and help Miss Emma and... Show more content on

Despite this, Grant unwillingly agrees to help and begins visiting Jefferson in prison. After
several visits and no progress, one night Grant talks with Vivian and expresses to her that he is
wasting his time and that they should escape this town together. However, nearing the end of the
book, upon buying Jefferson a radio, Grant realizes that he has been too focused on what he
wants, and decides that contrary to what he believes he can help Jefferson, and the town he lives in
(Gaines 180). Because Grant has two equally compelling desires, although not compelling in the
same way, to choose between, the choice he does make is magnified because of the conflict within
himself. This conflict not only helps reflect on Grant s development as a character, but even
more stresses the books theme of assuming responsibility. Through Grant s actions it is easy to
see he is not comfortable with his life. He lives in a small, racially discriminated and prejudiced
town, and is a college educated man treated like a man who hasn t finished elementary school.
Adding Jefferson s situation on top of all that, it is easy to see how Grant desires to simply give
up and run away with the love of his life, Vivian. But Grant realizes that the issues at hand are
bigger than just him; the way Jefferson dies will have a lasting impact, much like Christ s
crucifixion, on the local community. He understands that the dignity Jefferson shows in

The Back Of The Future Trilogy Narrative And A Few...
Time travel narratives explore the idea of changing what has been solidified in time; whether
going backwards or forwards, they portray the consequences of the free will of change They also
portray an ideology of the time period it is created in and thus the vision of the future is created
with that in mind. With a rather pessimistic idea of time, there has been an incorporation of comedy
in order to make the events less consequential in their narratives. The Back to the Future trilogy
narrative and a few selected episodes of Futurama share time traveltraits that can explore the
consequences of changing both the past and future but uses comedy in order to alleviate the
morbid idea of time. They both explore the ideas of butterfly effects, alternate universes, causal
loops with scientific accuracy but allows comedy to rectify the absurdity of time travel and its
components. Where Back to the Future sees time travel as an idea that can go both backwards
and forwards, Futurama clearly states that backwards time travel is difficult to do and prove, but
forwards time travel is scientifically capable. In the confines of science fiction, time travel reveals
a side that allows alterations in choices; science fiction narratives are situational ideas that have
been solidified in its event, whereas time travel narratives allow for the exploration of preventing
events from ever happening.
The concept of time travel suffers from the idea of being stuck in a certain time period and

Stress as a Social Determinant of Health Essay
A) Can stress ever be a positive social determinant of health?
Stress a term used to describe the human response to pressure when faced with challenges or even
dangerous situations, resulting in an increase in our energy and alertness, a prolonged exposure to
stressful stimuli can lead to harmful effect on health, a functional definition of stress may be hard to
establish, the research of stress probably started with Selye Hans (1956) using the term stress in his
book the stress of life referring to stress as the unpleasant environmental events and the
physiological reaction toward it, examining the effect of anxious but different physical and
emotional stimuli on laboratory animals, suggesting that persistence exposure to stress ... Show

ways to generate the good stress at work in order to achieve better employees performance.
The pressure and challenge of writing an essay or going through examination, is a good example of
eustress in daily life, the stress generating from these experiences motivates us to prepare ourselves
for the big moment, were the adrenaline rushes through our system generating extra energy and
alertness, same situation can be observed in a dangerous situation, when you are suddenly
surprised, your body will activate the fight or flight response, triggering the adrenal medulla to
initiate the secretion of hormones that results in the production of epinephrine and norepinephrine
allowing you to access extra energy to overcome the stressor, when the situation is successfully
resolved, a feeling of confident, accomplishment is developed, increasing the person satisfaction
and self esteem, the simple daily running and exercising habits, generates eustress as well, putting
some degree of pressure on your body, and then successfully managing that pressure will result in
the same process. While eustress has appositive effect on our physical activities and excitement, it
also support our motivation and inspiration.

Hydrogen Power and Energy
Most of the energy we produce causes waste and pollution. Water allows us to cut some of this out
of the equation. In 1874, a French author named Jules Verne wrote that hydrogen has the potential
to be our next fuel source long before its potential was even discovered. And above all else, its
abundant! Not only is the earth covered in 70% of water, but 90% of all matter contains hydrogen
in it. Hydrogen itself produces miniscule amounts of pollution when burned. The problem that
stands is that hydrogen is only found as a compound, and not by itself. Water contains a good
amount of hydrogen, but also contains oxygen. However, we can extract the hydrogen atoms
through a process called electrolysis. Electrolysis separates the hydrogen atoms from the oxygen
atom to create HHO gas.
The problem with this however is that electrolysis requires electricity to decompose the compound.
The more current that is passed through the water the more chemical change it will undergo.
Electrolysis is carried out in an electrolytic cell which don t contain a membrane. These cells
contains two electrodes which separates the oxygen and the hydrogen.
Now when most people think of converting water into energy, they usually think of water powered
cars. Even though this is not entirely what electrolysis does, it isnt too far off. Fuel cell technology,
even though it is still being developed, works with electrolysis to make this possible. An obstacle
with making fuel cell technology possible is

Drown By Junot Diaz Summary
According to Dictonary.com masculinity is defined as having qualities traditionally ascribed to
men, such as strength and boldness. Junot Diaz, a man from the Dominican Republic, frequently
talks about how Dominican men act very intimidating and raunchy in his writing. Due to this strong
stigma in Dominican culture, Diaz explains in his stories that homosexuality was uncommon. The
unnamed narrator and his friend would steal, urinate on people s steps, or the ways that he treated
different women. Junot Diaz utilizes the masculinityof Dominican men to demonstrate that
masculinity is a societal term, not a personal choice.
According to Diaz s writing, to be a man one must have intimidating and bold characteristics,
otherwise society might not accept him as a man. In the case of the unnamed narrator in Drown,
being raped by another man completely de emasculated him. As his characters experiences in his
writing resembled his experiences in real life, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That they are seen for one thing and one thing only; these tough and macho guys who have no
respect for homosexuals. Yunior shows us that even though many Dominicans could be like this
not all of them may be. It is implied that Yunior was not gay, but he was very conscious and
worried about people in his community finding out he was raped. Yunior talks about his rape,
and says that he did not like it, but did not want to do anything about it since it was his best
friend: I kept my eyes on the television, too scared to watch...My legs started shaking and
suddenly I wanted out (104). This story relates to Junot Diaz s The Silence, things did not happen
precisely the same in the story as they did to him in reality. Thus why we must analyze Diaz s
writing, in Drown he says: I stayed in the basement, terrified that I would end up abnormal, a
fucking pato (104). Yuniors exclamation shows that his culture was not accepting of

Assistive Technology And Eportfolios Can Pair Well Assist...
Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and
maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human
diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into
society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College
or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of
their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired
student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment
for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other
student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a
valuable tool in conveying that student s interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves
and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students
with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for
disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), besides
ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content
development is central to disabled students success with their portfolio projects. Once

The Difference Between Race And Racial Identity In The...
Introduction Racial identity is a part of a socially constructed hierarchy that identifies human beings
based on their ethnicity and ancestry. Essentially, the only difference between race and ethnicity is
that race is determined by the dominant ethnicity. Race has been a relevant topic throughout
history, and racial conflicts still exist in the modern world. Judgements based on racial identity
create prejudice and bigotry. The susceptibility of people to believe others predispositions is what
causes prejudice and bigotry to grow. Racial identity has inhibited individuals opportunities for
centuries due to predispositions formed from a lack of credible knowledge.
Perspective: African American
African Americans have been perceived as inferior for centuries due to their race. African
discrimination began with the Atlantic slave trade. Europeans bought Africans for the purpose of
using them as slaves in the New World. According to the BBC, more than a million enslaved
Africans died during just their transport to the Americas. Patrick Manning, a former Trinidad
politician, estimated that ten million Africans entered the New World as slaves from 1500 1900.
This early practice of discrimination encouraged the formation of later eras. The Atlantic slave trade
took the right to life away from the Africans and took away their opportunities to experience the
culture of their homeland. This inhibition was a direct cause for the lack of development seen in
Africa throughout its

Budweiser Clydesdale s Commercial Analysis
Brotherhood Budweiser Clydesdales commercials are always one of the most recognized
commercials during a super Bowl. They have been aired every year starting on Super Bowl XX

many, I chose the one aired on Super Bowl XLVII (2013), titled Brotherhood . Not only was this
one of the top Budweiser commercial but it broke record over other commercials as one of the
most shared Super Bowl Ad. Brotherhood is about a farmer who raises a horse (Clydesdale) from
its birth, creating a beautiful relationship with it as it grew up. Although he has cared for his horse
since birth, he sells it to Budweiser s Clydesdale. Three years later, the farmer was reading

A Critical Analysis Of Kim By Rudyard KiplingKim
Fatima V Montano Luna English 100 Professor Timonthy J. Juntilla 30 November 2017 Kim
Research Paper Rudyard Kipling s genuine work was obtusely polemical; however, a genius
radical message overruns his fictional too. Even though the novel Kim, with its lively portrayals
of the geology and societies of India, is by all accounts a festival of the subcontinent and its local
people groups, it, in any case, is organized as an expert radical work. As one with this feeling of
good commitment to force English government on the dull races of the world was the storing up
of financial and worldwide power for England itself, the biggest domain the world had ever
observed. Along these lines, the upkeep of the feeling of good commitment in India was a critical
piece of the belief system behind the monetary welfare of the domain. Kipling makes an extremely
specific depiction of the political condition of India that distinctly disregards the developing clash
between the local Indians and political condition severs to keep up the quality and legitimacy of the
British presence in India. The way the countries justify this practice was because they have found
resources that they didn t have in their countries: like in Africa, India, and parts of Asia. British
found out that these countries had raw materials as well, for instance, some of the sources that were
found in India were cotton, coffee, tea, jute, indigo, and opium. The way British implemented the

Within Macbeth, there are three witches which are supposed sisters. These witches are very
symbolic of demonic thoughts and actions. They consistently lurk among the side lines and implant

within the play from the witches would Double, double, toil and trouble, / Fire burn and cauldron

Marketing Discourse Of South Korea Essay
Ever since the economic boom that South Korea faced due to globalization in the 1990 s, South
Korea has been working on becoming a country on par with other global powers such as Canada
and Australia (John, 2015). South Korea has paid a particular focus since the early 2000 s on
exporting culture to the rest of the world through what is known as the Korean Wave , and South
Korean beauty is no exception to this trend (John, 2015). South Korean beauty has grown its own
niche market in America where people can purchase products either from popular online distributors
such as MEMEBOX, WishTrend, and YesStyle, or from select American outlets such as Sephora,
Urban Outfitters, and Forever21. Beauty from South Koreahas also gained an online presence as
popular online beauty gurus test interesting products from South Korea, and some beauty gurus
even have a focus on South Korean beauty products and trends. My discourse community is the
marketingdiscourse community within the business sphere, and it focuses on ways to sell products
to customers and make them aware of products that they might like with hopes of increasing the
profit margins of companies. Companies tend to employ multiple types of marketing, including
traditional and word of mouth marketing, but I have focused my research more on the side of
traditional marketing. Traditional marketing includes magazine and newspaper advertisements,
television advertisements, and billboard advertisements. With the increase in

The Leadership Of The Sandwich Company
I. INTRODUCTION The modern leadership theories (hereafter, theories) recognise the
importance of followers in the leadership process. These theories view leadership as an interaction
between leaders and follower. They focus on the relationship between a leader and follower and
view this relationship as the core to the success of any organisation. Kirsty s leadershipmay be seen
as reflective of all the path goal theory, leader member exchange theory (hereafter, LMX theory)
and the transformational leadership theory (hereafter, TLT). In this report a discussion will be
provided of the ways in which Kirsty s leadership may be seen as reflective of all these theories
and approaches to leadership. A critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of Kirsty s
leadership for the Sandwich Company s (hereafter, company) will also be provided to highlight how
these factors could interplay in the company s continued success. The success of the company
illustrates that Kirsty effectively uses the guidance provided by each theory to inform her
leadership practice. However, the company s internal and external environment is starting to

style could come to surface which may delimit the company s continued success. II. DISCUSSION

Father Paneloux and The Plague
As a Christian speaking to the people of Oran, it would be very difficult to say anything to a
people facing such terrible affliction. Even though Father Paneloux believed what he was
preaching, I believe he was completely wrong. This would make what I would say much different
from what Father Paneloux said. However, some strong points did emerge from his sermons.
Overall, the two sermons in Albert CamusThe Plaguefail to help people become more faithful and
fail to even preach to the people of Oran the truth.
Father Paneloux makes statements in his first sermon that condemn the people of Oran for their
wicked behavior. Camus description of the sermon makes clear that Father Paneloux is a strong
speaker. He describes him as using a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though God may be allowing it to happen, He is not the one causing the affliction. Once
again, God will not cause suffering until the time of tribulation. Proof of this can be found in the
book of Job where God calls Satan and has him afflict Job with nearly every affliction possible.
Clearly, just like his first sermon, Father Paneloux s second sermon displays his terrible
understanding of the nature and actions of God and causes even more people to turn away from
God.
If I were to talk to the people of Oran, I would first try to make clear why many of Father
Paneloux s ideas are incorrect without being mean to him. I would definitely detail how this
affliction is not a result of God s wrath and tell the people why this kind of thinking is completely
wrong. I would do this by ensuring the people that God does not cause suffering in this current
age and that he even wants to help everyone through the affliction they are currently experiencing.
It would be very difficult to drive out the false doctrine that Father Paneloux has taught to the
people of Oran, but that would have to be my first priority. Otherwise, the rest of my sermon
about God s love would not make any sense to a crowd that still believes God is responsible for the
suffering currently present in Oran.
My other priority if I were to give a sermon to the people of Oran would be to focus on God s love

Observing Social Behavior In Better Call Saul
Observing Social Behavior Social behavior is everywhere in society, hence why I didn t go far
to observe it. I observed social behavior by watching the first episode of Better Call Saul with no
sound, observing only the characters actions and the setting, to try and decipher the plot. By
doing this, I have gathered what I trust to be, the plot of the show. I believe it s a flashback to a
young lawyer, James McGill, trying to make it in his field. Between the struggle to make it and
presentday, something has gone wrong. He is very skittish and afraid someone is going to come
after him. We see this when he is working at his present job, as a Cinnabon employee, and a man
is staring at him. James starts panicking, you can see him gulp down his spit, he is afraid this man
is after him, but then the man goes to greet his others outside the entrance and James is relieved. He
then goes home to an empty house which is nicer than what a Cinnabon worker could afford and
then the scene changes and the flashback begins. At the time, I couldn t tell this was a flashback,
originally believing it was just another character. Throughout careful observation, I came up with
the theory of the show being a flashback of James McGill s life.
The flashback starts in a court room and the entire room of people look annoyed, as if they are
waiting for someone. The lawyer is pacing back and forth, talking to himself, showing his nerves
about the case in the men s restroom. When he finally enters the

Some organizations like the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions say that

Not all rides require a safety belt. Some rides don t have seat belts because of gravity and no
drops. One example is Splash Mountain where they are not required. Lawyers at Disney have
required each ride as it goes in for maintenance to have new safety checks to see if it should have
seat belts installed. Tower of Terror was built with a lap bar. A person was injured and then had
a stroke. So they took out the bar and installed seat belts. Many experts think all rides should
have seat belts to have less accidents. But others think lowering the height requirement would be
better. What is the difference between big drops and small drops? The difference is the bigger
the drop is more energy and the smaller the drop is less energy and less time to enjoy the ride.
Space Mountain has a big drop but it adds a lot more thrill to the ride. Big Thunder Mountain
Railroad has 3 small drops but can scare you a little bit. Tower of terror before you drop you are

We are incredibly lucky to get to watch the world s best players take the ice at once, but when you

It s like Deja vu: years of underperforming leads to a phenomenal first overall pick, who is quickly
named captain and begins an upward trajectory for his team. No one needs to tell us how great it
feels to watch that unfold, either.
(I m done bragging, I promise.)
McDavid, unsurprisingly, has been a huge factor on the score sheet as well. He has 19 points in
16 games played this season, and is a +5. When the Oilers took the ice in Pittsburgh, McDavid
assisted on all three of their goals. The Penguins ended up winning 4 3 in a contentious, evenly
matched game.
The Leafs visit to Pittsburgh was far less leveled, in that the Penguins took a decisive 4 1 victory
after putting 49 shots on goal. Crosby picked up a goal and an assist in that time, while Zach
Hyman, of all people, was the only one to score for the Leafs. Does that mean Matthews is in a
slump?
Spoiler alert: Not at all. He s played fifteen games and it was physically impossible for anyone to
keep up the torrid scoring pace he started out with. He s nineteen. He also has a weaker supporting
cast than both McDavid and Crosby do.
Plus, he s still got 12 points six goals and six assists and is tied for the Leafs point lead with Mitch

In the U.S., retail stores will not allow underage teens or minors to purchase violent or mature
rated video games without a guardian. 97 percent of teens in the U.S., ages 12 17 play video
games. More than half of the best selling games are violent or mature rated. Some Americans

Allowing teens to purchase violent or mature rated video games will increase the sales of the
game purchased and violent video games are known as a stress reliever.
History
Violence in video games dates all the way back to 1976. In 1976, there was an arcade game
called Death Race, and it was about running over stickmen with a car. The game was eventually
banned due to the violence it displayed. (Homeslice, Death Race (Game) , 2014) Back in the
late 70 s to the early 90 s, video games did not have a rating. There weren t a lot of violent video
games for home consoles at that time, and violent games that were released was usually
unlicensed or unofficial. According to Ryan Lamble, some of the earliest violent video games
were Chiller, Splatterhouse, and Jack the Ripper. (Lamble, The evolution of 80s videogame gore
and mayhem , 2013)
In 1994, a video game rating system known as ESRB was established due to gory and violent
games such as Mortal Kombat and Night Trap. The ESRB decides what age or ages a video
game should be appropriate for. The ESRB rating categories ranged from kids to adults to
mature. ESRB. SEARCH ESRB RATINGS. ESRB Ratings. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2017. Today,
the ESRB rating still exists and recently the ESRB expanded to mobile games and apps. The
ESRB rating system for video games will exist in the future and it will continue to expand.
Problem Statement
The issue is underage teens are not allowed to purchase mature or violent video games due to

American Samurai Chapter Summaries
Cameron, C. M. (2002). American samurai: myth, and imagination in the conduct of battle in
the First Marine Division, 1941 1951. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. The samurai
were a warrior class in feudal Japan who served the lords of clans in Japanese feudal society.
They were highly respected elite warriors in both grand military strategy and individual martial
arts. The warrior code that they embodied and the myth of the samurai warrior are still alive in
modern Japan today. In his book American Samurai: Myth and Imagination in the Conduct of
Battle in the First Marine Division 1941 1951, Craig Cameron draws parallels between the United
States Marine Corps and the feudal Japanese samurai. Writing from a post Vietnam view, Cameron

This disassociation allows for the whole sale slaughter of people with moral justification. The
unforeseen byproduct of this disassociation, as Cameron points out, can be seen in the 1950 s
and 1960 s, when many veterans consigned their wives to the kitchen. The intended product of
this disassociation, however, was to kill Japanese soldiers. The Marines would reap the benefits
of this first in the Guadalcanal campaign of 1942. With the U.S. Marines of First Division
engaged in a life or death struggle against their Japanese opponents, the cartoonish portraits of
four eyed, slow Japanese soldiers burned into the American Marine s mind kept them from
thinking about the enemy as men who are carrying pictures of their families eerily similar to the
pictures that were carried by Americans. Using the invasion of Peleliu as a backdrop for his
analysis, Cameron expands upon his analysis of the individual Marine to the collective thought of
the organization. The U.S. Marine self image caused Marine units on Peleliu to charge head first
into the waiting Japanese defense with foolhardy, head on assaults which they stubbornly pressed.
The Marine Corps, even through their hyper masculine indoctrination, had not prepared their
Marines any better than their U.S. Army counterparts on the island. Before Peleliu, the perception
of combat had been that of a clean affair due to the romanticized images of World War I. After, due
to Tom Lea s reporting of events, the

Character Development In Cathedral s Cathedral
There are ample ways to describe and trace character development in. The setting in which a
character resides, other present characters, and the tone in which those characters interact all
guide a character s development. In individual stories, more specific things can be used to trace
character development. In Cathedral, television plays a significant role in the development of
narrator. At the beginning of the story, the narrator introduces conflict by stating his dislike for
blind people. He sees the blind as dull, helpless beings. Before Robert arrives, the narrator applies
these stereotypes to him. While expressing his dislike, the narrator confesses that [His] idea of
blindness came from the movies. (34) This confession not only shows the narrator s ignorance, but
also the impact of television on him. His ignorance leaves ample room for characterdevelopment.
The narrator continues to extend his disdain to Roberts wife, Beulah. He looks down upon their
wedding, and comments on what a pitiful life [Beulah] must have led. (37) Although he made
negative remarks about their marriage, learning of Beulah s death brought about sympathy... Show

As he draws, the narrator relaxes. When the television program ends, he stops to let Robert feel
the page. The program s ending is notable because, usually, the narrator gives as much of his
attention to the program as possible. However, spending time with Robert has taken over his
interest. When Robert tells the narrator to close his eyes while drawing, the narrator does so and
claims it was like nothing else in [his] life up to now. (46) The narrator experiences his own
version of physical blindness, a disability he looked down upon in the beginning. The choice to
keep his eyes closed, to stay blind, shows the narrator s growth by overcoming his ignorance and
forming a connection with a person he once

Essay on Machiavelli s Advice to Republics
Machiavelli s Advice to Republics
In secular democracies, power is necessarily derived from the will of the governed. That power is
then entrusted to a leader, who Machiavelli would understand to be a prince . Inherently, his book,
The Prince, has been close at hand for most politicians for centuries, as it provides general,
historically proven advice for principalities and republics on how to govern and maintain relations
with their most important resource and the very core of their power, which would be the people
themselves.
Machiavelli s realization of the penultimate import of the people is probably most significant
reason his book holds so much influence on realpolitik. He writes, it is essential for a prince to
possess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not to say, however, that Machiavelli intended the princeto be indulgent and benevolent to
the people, he says quite clearly in Chapter 17, #8230;it is much more safe to be feared than
loved, when you have to choose between the two #8230; Machiavelli s reasoning was that an
excess of clemency towards the subjects when they do something wrong would lead to
widespread crime, hurting the whole community. Therefore, being cruel and severe to those
who deserve it would allow for the greatest utility (Chapter 17). This view on how to maintain
relations with the populace is both logical and realistic. However, Machiavelli draws a clear
distinction between being feared and hated. He writes, A prince must make himself feared in
such a manner that #8230; he shall at least not incur their hatred, for being the feared, and not
hated, can go very well together, (Chapter 17). The way that a ruler can earn his subjects hatred,
says Machiavelli, is if he steals or harms their property. Therefore, by being severe and cruel in
his punishments he inspires fear. In being feared, the prince further secures his empowerment, for
none of his subjects dare to attempt to take it from him. More advice given to the prince by
Machiavelli was on general good governance, meaning how to rule, all supported by historical
examples. He writes, #8230;the prince will avail himself of the occasion #8230; to secure himself,
with less consideration for

My First Encounter With Pulleys
Let s talk about pulleys today! I have some pulleys here. Will anyone assemble them? My high
school physics teacher looked around our classroom.
I raised my hand, walked to the front of the classroom and took up a pulley. Bending down, I
concentrated hard on the system in front of me.
This scene brought me back to my first encounter with pulleys in the science center years ago. A
voice echoed in my mind loudly and clearly: Don t be obsessed and carry on! The story of that day
started to unfold before my eyes.
As I walked into the City Science Center, I found the very place which had appeared in my
dream hundreds of times: a large interactive science area. As I had always expected, the science
center included not only topics I was curious about, but also topics of which I had never heard.
For a seven year old, there was a lot to explore and I remember myself wishing I could try them all
at once. So after saying Cheese! perfunctorily in front of my mom s camera, I ran into the nearest
exhibition without any hesitation.
Tired of controlling the flow of the waterfall model with my voice, I noticed some other kids
pushing around small carts. They were building houses! I immediately joined the group. To build
a balcony for the house, I had to elevate building materials to the second floor. According to the
instruction of the project, I was supposed to achieve the task with the help of pulleys. How did
pulleys work? How did I use a pulley? Which kind of pulleys should I use?

Analysis Of The Movie August Morning
April Morning is a story that describes the process of change in a time when Americans nation
was developing. Due to its importance, Hollywood decided to make the movie based off of it
with same name and theme. The story takes place during the Battle of Lexington on April 19,
1775. Adam Cooper is just 15 years old and lives in Lexington. Adam s decision to sign the muster
book for the militia is one of the key turning points of his sudden change from childhood into
adulthood. Movie has exaggerated some scenes due to dramatic purpose. The movie is more
focused on the summery of the novel. It does have it s own similarities and differences. The
characters were changed and taken off from the movie. I would recommend people to watch the
movie and read the novel. Movie has its more emotional side than the novel. Simultaneously, novel
has more details compared to the movie. Both, the movie and novel were able to depict a great tale
of a child who fought for his country and became a man. Both make us realize how important this
battle was to our history and culture.
First of all, Characters were manipulated by a big margin in the movie. Granny s relation with
Adam was very unlike in movie than the novel. In the movie Granny s role was very silent and
haven t show any significant support towards Adam. On the other hand, Granny was the only
family member that was very close to Adam by any means in the novel. I can t see what s to
disagree with when you have hardly begun (P.21).

Analysis Of The C C s Management
Executive Summary:
Calyx and Corolla (C C) is a company started by Ruth M. Owades in 1988, which delivers fresh
flowers to the customers using courier service Federal Express. Customers can choose from a
wide range of fresh flowers and bouquets and make an order via phone or fax and get it delivered
to their houses. During 1990, it had consummated over 150k transactions, yielding revenues in
excess of $10 million. C C was exceptionally promising yet it s still a partly proven, start up
company. The main challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flowerselling
outlets, less customer base that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it
should change its current strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the
traditional outlets, such as florists and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a
major advertising campaign to go head to head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who
their customers should be? As a small company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited
marketing resources to reach potential customers.
Goal and goal defense:
C C is a small player in a large market that has remarkable growth potential. As a company, C C
has enjoyed substantial success since its beginnings in 1988. The goal of the company is to
solidify its presence in the market by evolving its current business model and developing new
business approaches which will ensure long term financial

Importance Of Wildlife Conservation In Maasaya
Contrasting the great expanses of Africa to India, one is immediately struck by the emptiness of the
former or perhaps the emptiness of the latter. Yet, it is within these sparsely populated settings that
some of the greatest injustices and threats to the local communities are presented. Land tenure
statuses are greatly contested. The studies particularly in Kenyaand Tanzania look specifically at
the Maasai but more than that there is a need to juxtapose their story among a larger story of land
rights to all groups and the power dynamics and policies that have defined them.
For the Maasai, wildlife conservation as well as tourism and now, industrial agriculture have
threatened their way of living and today there are advocates on the one hand of community
development (or poverty reduction) and others in the camp of wildlife conservation with very
different suggestions to land use and where policies have been increasingly polarized in either
direction. Many consensus approaches have been suggested including Conservation with
development, integrated conservation and development projects, Community based conservation
and community based natural resource management among others. Many of these policies have
failed to impress either of these camps with the battle between conservation and development as
contentious as ever.
No two sites have the same land characteristic and as a result, groups may bear disproportionally
based on their access to immediate resources

Using the policy scripts/analysers, ASCII text logs, which relate to the applications, are generated
(http.log for HTTP traffic, ftp.log for FTP traffic, and so on). These logs tell an operator that
problematic events have occurred, such as potential attempts to exploit a vulnerable service,
malformed but not necessarily malicious traffic, new services starting that should not be running, or
users violating a corporate policy, for example, by using instant messaging (IM). Bro has two
different types of event handlers for information notification that might interest the operator/analyst.

The major drawback of this approach, however, is that scanning network traffic running on all
ports dramatically increases the processing load on the IDS, which easily leads to an
underpowered system dropping packets and missing potential attacks. This approach will not
be viable on a low powered single board computer as we intend to use. However, both IDS
approaches do some form of protocol parsing to give to the analysts the ability to finely control
what they want to search for when examining a given protocol. Bro IDS includes a facility to
perform signature based detection and a tool called snort2bro that converts Snort signatures to Bro
IDS signatures. Same, Snort IDS signatures can be written to search for anomalous traffic on a
given network. However, this capability is limited by which stream based interpreter the signature
system can understand when finding anomalous traffic. Both Snort and Bro also contain
mechanisms to deal with multistage attacks. Snort s detection in this area is primarily stream
oriented: through the use of its flow bits keyword, Snort can tag a given TCP stream or even a
UDP pseudo stream (an active UDP conversation as having had part of the components necessary
for a successful attack without actually generating an alert). In such a case, a second or third rule
then becomes active on the stream in question, which generates an alert only

The Devil s Arithmetic Analysis
Contradicting the glowing reviews of this novel, there are many things that can be improved about
The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. The point of view, as it came from a twelve year old,
withheld some important points and perspectives. Although it gave an opportunity for some serious
character development, certain scenes were trivialized, such as the dinner. Hannah described her
discomfort for most of the time instead of focusing on the importance and meaning of certain
moments. Because of this, the reader doesn t have an opportunity to learn more about modern
Jewish tradition, something that seems almost obvious to have in this type of book. Although the
concept of time travel and her disappearing memories were very interesting, one doesn t

Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville
Bartleby, the Scrivener is an interesting short story written by Herman Melville for Putnam s
magazine at a time when Melville was in need for money (Davis 183). The narrator opens with a
description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon
after, the narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the
namesake of the story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he
started off copying as desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him;
how he was eventually fired but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how
he was put into prison; and how he died of starvation while incarcerated. The... Show more content

Secondly, we know the narrator to be the protagonist due to the fact that he is the one that
experiences conflict in the story. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led
toward a realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this
realization has to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical
ideals, or, in other words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the
protagonist of a story is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can
thereby deduce that the lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the
implication that the lawyer is the protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this
truly is the case. Notably, we cannot possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe
himself because we only know of the lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that
although Bartleby is the main focus of the narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally,
Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife, and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though
he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact, Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader,
like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for

Malaria In Cuba Essay
Malaria has been a major life threatening disease for thousands of years, and continues to threaten
millions of lives around the world. It infects approximately 219 million people each year, mostly

Salinger was born January 1, 1919 in Manhattan, to a prosperous family. He flunked out of

of its deeper meaning.Caulfield roams around New York while trying to find his place in society.
J.D. Salinger traces and develops the theme of alienation in his novel The Catcher in the Rye
through Holden Caulfield. Holden s questionable alienation brews from his family. His family
family is separated as the children as scattered throughout the world and the parents are always
working and not communicating with their children (Mitchell). The lack of parental love and the
desire not to grow up cause Holden to become isolated and introverted (Slabey). Caulfield tries to
get the attention of his parents, who seem to completely neglect him, by flunking out of multiple
schools and causing trouble. When he found out his parents do not love him, he decides to
alienation himself, thinking it will cause his parents to love him again. Holden s character could

The Ethics Case Contemplation, Dilemma At Devil s Den
The ethics case contemplation, Dilemma at Devil s Den, is an unblemished precedent of the
challenges that can appear at an establishment that question s the moral ethics of business. The
Devil s Den is a snack bar on a college campus, which employed approximately 36 students with 6
of them in management positions. Evening and weekend positions were difficult to fill, and
wages were low, making employees valuable. Therefore, the managers were more flexible in their
actions and correction measures were not enforced. In order for this den to carry on in an ethical

The daily activities happening at the Devil s Den are unethical, some of them being minor issues,
but in the case with ethics small things can become big things. The line is blurred as to where
you draw the line. At the Devil s Den, employees are allowed to eat things out of the store room
when working. But, they were abusing this privilege by taking sizeable amounts of food home
when their shift was complete as well as when they were off duty. In addition, customers and
employee friends have been doing this as well, following suit of the employee s actions since they

  • 2. World s Increasing Demand For Energy Essay World s increasing demand for energy is fulfilled by different sectors (like Oil, Coal, Natural Gas, Hydro, Nuclear and others). Fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy powering the world economy, supplying 60% of the energy increase out to 2035. Within that, gas looks set to become the fastest growing fossil fuel, spurred on by ample supplies and supportive environmental policies. 1.1 BACKGROUND From the advert of the modern oil and gas industry, petroleum geologists and engineers have followed a conventional route for exploration; look for hydrocarbon source rocks, find reservoir quality rocks where hydrocarbons can accumulate, identify a trapping mechanism and then drill a well. But a revolution is taking place in the exploration and production (E P) industry. Rocks that in the past were of little interest, other than as potential source rocks, are today being actively pursued as potential reservoirs. When considering unconventional resource plays, the focus is on finding organic shale s. This development represents a fundamental shift in the way exploration companies consider resource plays. Engineers and geologists studying shale gas resources find that reservoir can lead to process adaptation and refinement of techniques. It is important to integrate data from many sources and at many scales to optimally drill, complete and stimulate wells to produce hydrocarbons from their source rocks. The two other type of existing unconventional gas resources are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Story Of An Hour Setting Essay Uses of Setting in The Story of an Hour Setting plays an extremely important role in all stories as a device to help create the situation characters are in, but sometimes the setting itself tells a story. Within Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour the setting is used to not only reveal the feelings Louise Mallard has about her marriage, but also Victorian era marriages as a whole. The Story of an Hour is a short story about a woman who was told her husband was dead. People are expecting a reaction of grief from her, due to the fact that those around her believe she is a perfect Victorian housewife. However, she can t help but feel the weight of the world lifted off of her shoulders as her obligations to her marriage are finally coming to an end. Through Kate Chopin s use of limited setting with Mrs. Mallard s room, the staircase, and the window of this house, an idea of Victorian Era marriages is displayed. Mrs. Mallard s room, being one of the three locations in this short story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mallard feels, but also attempts to reveal wives view of marriage during the time period. The staircase is where Victorian era norms were affecting Louise s reactions and displayed self. In the beginning of this short story, after she hears about her husband s supposed death, Chopin writes, She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (1). While Mrs. Mallard is on the staircase she always keeps her true feelings to herself and shows a fake version which adheres to the norms that not only her sister but also her husband s friend are expecting of her. This is shown later in the story when it is revealed to the reader that she actually was not happy with her marriage and was excited to hear of her husband s death. Chopin uses the staircase to represent a place where other s opinions affect how women at the time acted, alluding to the societal norms of the Victorian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Lesson Before Dying Essay In Ernest J. Gaines novel A Lesson Before Dying, a young African American, Jefferson, is caught in the middle of a liquor shootout, and as the only survivor is convicted of murder and sentenced to death. During Jefferson s trial, his attorney calls him a hog in an effort to persuade the jury that he could not have possibly planned a crime like this. Having heard this, Jefferson s godmother, Miss Emma, calls on the local schoolteacher, Grant Wiggins, to visit Jefferson in prison and help prove to the community, more importantly the white people, that Jefferson is indeed a man, not a hog. Throughout the book, Grant often contemplates why he is helping Miss Emma; he debates within himself whether he should stay and help Miss Emma and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this, Grant unwillingly agrees to help and begins visiting Jefferson in prison. After several visits and no progress, one night Grant talks with Vivian and expresses to her that he is wasting his time and that they should escape this town together. However, nearing the end of the book, upon buying Jefferson a radio, Grant realizes that he has been too focused on what he wants, and decides that contrary to what he believes he can help Jefferson, and the town he lives in (Gaines 180). Because Grant has two equally compelling desires, although not compelling in the same way, to choose between, the choice he does make is magnified because of the conflict within himself. This conflict not only helps reflect on Grant s development as a character, but even more stresses the books theme of assuming responsibility. Through Grant s actions it is easy to see he is not comfortable with his life. He lives in a small, racially discriminated and prejudiced town, and is a college educated man treated like a man who hasn t finished elementary school. Adding Jefferson s situation on top of all that, it is easy to see how Grant desires to simply give up and run away with the love of his life, Vivian. But Grant realizes that the issues at hand are bigger than just him; the way Jefferson dies will have a lasting impact, much like Christ s crucifixion, on the local community. He understands that the dignity Jefferson shows in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Back Of The Future Trilogy Narrative And A Few... Time travel narratives explore the idea of changing what has been solidified in time; whether going backwards or forwards, they portray the consequences of the free will of change They also portray an ideology of the time period it is created in and thus the vision of the future is created with that in mind. With a rather pessimistic idea of time, there has been an incorporation of comedy in order to make the events less consequential in their narratives. The Back to the Future trilogy narrative and a few selected episodes of Futurama share time traveltraits that can explore the consequences of changing both the past and future but uses comedy in order to alleviate the morbid idea of time. They both explore the ideas of butterfly effects, alternate universes, causal loops with scientific accuracy but allows comedy to rectify the absurdity of time travel and its components. Where Back to the Future sees time travel as an idea that can go both backwards and forwards, Futurama clearly states that backwards time travel is difficult to do and prove, but forwards time travel is scientifically capable. In the confines of science fiction, time travel reveals a side that allows alterations in choices; science fiction narratives are situational ideas that have been solidified in its event, whereas time travel narratives allow for the exploration of preventing events from ever happening. The concept of time travel suffers from the idea of being stuck in a certain time period and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stress a term used to describe the human response to pressure when faced with challenges or even dangerous situations, resulting in an increase in our energy and alertness, a prolonged exposure to stressful stimuli can lead to harmful effect on health, a functional definition of stress may be hard to establish, the research of stress probably started with Selye Hans (1956) using the term stress in his book the stress of life referring to stress as the unpleasant environmental events and the physiological reaction toward it, examining the effect of anxious but different physical and emotional stimuli on laboratory animals, suggesting that persistence exposure to stress ... • 7. Hydrogen Power and Energy Most of the energy we produce causes waste and pollution. Water allows us to cut some of this out of the equation. In 1874, a French author named Jules Verne wrote that hydrogen has the potential to be our next fuel source long before its potential was even discovered. And above all else, its abundant! Not only is the earth covered in 70% of water, but 90% of all matter contains hydrogen in it. Hydrogen itself produces miniscule amounts of pollution when burned. The problem that stands is that hydrogen is only found as a compound, and not by itself. Water contains a good amount of hydrogen, but also contains oxygen. However, we can extract the hydrogen atoms through a process called electrolysis. Electrolysis separates the hydrogen atoms from the oxygen atom to create HHO gas. The problem with this however is that electrolysis requires electricity to decompose the compound. The more current that is passed through the water the more chemical change it will undergo. Electrolysis is carried out in an electrolytic cell which don t contain a membrane. These cells contains two electrodes which separates the oxygen and the hydrogen. Now when most people think of converting water into energy, they usually think of water powered cars. Even though this is not entirely what electrolysis does, it isnt too far off. Fuel cell technology, even though it is still being developed, works with electrolysis to make this possible. An obstacle with making fuel cell technology possible is ... Junot Diaz, a man from the Dominican Republic, frequently talks about how Dominican men act very intimidating and raunchy in his writing. Due to this strong stigma in Dominican culture, Diaz explains in his stories that homosexuality was uncommon. The unnamed narrator and his friend would steal, urinate on people s steps, or the ways that he treated different women. Junot Diaz utilizes the masculinityof Dominican men to demonstrate that masculinity is a societal term, not a personal choice. According to Diaz s writing, to be a man one must have intimidating and bold characteristics, otherwise society might not accept him as a man. In the case of the unnamed narrator in Drown, being raped by another man completely de emasculated him. As his characters experiences in his writing resembled his experiences in real life, the ... Assistive technology and ePortfolios can pair well to assist disabled students and help create and maintain an environment for learning that will promote respect for and appreciation of human diversity. As time and technology goes on there have been great strides in integrating the blind into society on a basis of equality, ensuring full access to information technology and resources. College or university students with disabilities could use the ePortfolio to showcase their characteristics of their learning strengths, styles, and needs. An ePortfolio made accessible to the visually impaired student could participate along with other students as a team member in an inclusive environment for a class project, a senior capstone or any other use of the digital portfolio. Just like any other student, an ePortfolio that equips the visually impaired through assistive technology can be a valuable tool in conveying that student s interests and abilities. As assistive technology improves and various multimodal technologies integrate, an ePortfolio can create opportunities for students with disabilities. There are currently several accessibility issues facing digital portfolio projects for disabled students and the need for better technical support, and according to Oswal (2013), besides ensuring the accessibility of the ePortfolio system, making use of only accessible tools for content development is central to disabled students success with their portfolio projects. • 10. The Difference Between Race And Racial Identity In The... Introduction Racial identity is a part of a socially constructed hierarchy that identifies human beings based on their ethnicity and ancestry. Essentially, the only difference between race and ethnicity is that race is determined by the dominant ethnicity. Race has been a relevant topic throughout history, and racial conflicts still exist in the modern world. Judgements based on racial identity create prejudice and bigotry. The susceptibility of people to believe others predispositions is what causes prejudice and bigotry to grow. Racial identity has inhibited individuals opportunities for centuries due to predispositions formed from a lack of credible knowledge. Perspective: African American African Americans have been perceived as inferior for centuries due to their race. African discrimination began with the Atlantic slave trade. Europeans bought Africans for the purpose of using them as slaves in the New World. According to the BBC, more than a million enslaved Africans died during just their transport to the Americas. Patrick Manning, a former Trinidad politician, estimated that ten million Africans entered the New World as slaves from 1500 1900. This early practice of discrimination encouraged the formation of later eras. Juntilla 30 November 2017 Kim Research Paper Rudyard Kipling s genuine work was obtusely polemical; however, a genius radical message overruns his fictional too. Even though the novel Kim, with its lively portrayals of the geology and societies of India, is by all accounts a festival of the subcontinent and its local people groups, it, in any case, is organized as an expert radical work. As one with this feeling of good commitment to force English government on the dull races of the world was the storing up of financial and worldwide power for England itself, the biggest domain the world had ever observed. Along these lines, the upkeep of the feeling of good commitment in India was a critical piece of the belief system behind the monetary welfare of the domain. Kipling makes an extremely specific depiction of the political condition of India that distinctly disregards the developing clash between the local Indians and political condition severs to keep up the quality and legitimacy of the British presence in India. The way the countries justify this practice was because they have found resources that they didn t have in their countries: like in Africa, India, and parts of Asia. Clearly, just like his first sermon, Father Paneloux s second sermon displays his terrible understanding of the nature and actions of God and causes even more people to turn away from God. I observed social behavior by watching the first episode of Better Call Saul with no sound, observing only the characters actions and the setting, to try and decipher the plot. By doing this, I have gathered what I trust to be, the plot of the show. I believe it s a flashback to a young lawyer, James McGill, trying to make it in his field. Between the struggle to make it and presentday, something has gone wrong. He is very skittish and afraid someone is going to come after him. We see this when he is working at his present job, as a Cinnabon employee, and a man is staring at him. James starts panicking, you can see him gulp down his spit, he is afraid this man is after him, but then the man goes to greet his others outside the entrance and James is relieved. He then goes home to an empty house which is nicer than what a Cinnabon worker could afford and then the scene changes and the flashback begins. At the time, I couldn t tell this was a flashback, originally believing it was just another character. Throughout careful observation, I came up with the theory of the show being a flashback of James McGill s life. Both make us realize how important this battle was to our history and culture. First of all, Characters were manipulated by a big margin in the movie. Granny s relation with Adam was very unlike in movie than the novel. In the movie Granny s role was very silent and haven t show any significant support towards Adam. On the other hand, Granny was the only family member that was very close to Adam by any means in the novel. I can t see what s to disagree with when you have hardly begun (P.21). ... • 31. Analysis Of The C C s Management Executive Summary: Calyx and Corolla (C C) is a company started by Ruth M. Owades in 1988, which delivers fresh flowers to the customers using courier service Federal Express. Customers can choose from a wide range of fresh flowers and bouquets and make an order via phone or fax and get it delivered to their houses. During 1990, it had consummated over 150k transactions, yielding revenues in excess of $10 million. C C was exceptionally promising yet it s still a partly proven, start up company. The main challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flowerselling outlets, less customer base that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it should change its current strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the traditional outlets, such as florists and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a major advertising campaign to go head to head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who their customers should be? As a small company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited marketing resources to reach potential customers. Goal and goal defense: C C is a small player in a large market that has remarkable growth potential. As a company, C C has enjoyed substantial success since its beginnings in 1988. The goal of the company is to solidify its presence in the market by evolving its current business model and developing new business approaches which will ensure long term financial ... • 32. Importance Of Wildlife Conservation In Maasaya Contrasting the great expanses of Africa to India, one is immediately struck by the emptiness of the former or perhaps the emptiness of the latter. Yet, it is within these sparsely populated settings that some of the greatest injustices and threats to the local communities are presented. Land tenure statuses are greatly contested. The studies particularly in Kenyaand Tanzania look specifically at the Maasai but more than that there is a need to juxtapose their story among a larger story of land rights to all groups and the power dynamics and policies that have defined them. For the Maasai, wildlife conservation as well as tourism and now, industrial agriculture have threatened their way of living and today there are advocates on the one hand of community development (or poverty reduction) and others in the camp of wildlife conservation with very different suggestions to land use and where policies have been increasingly polarized in either direction. Many consensus approaches have been suggested including Conservation with development, integrated conservation and development projects, Community based conservation and community based natural resource management among others. Many of these policies have failed to impress either of these camps with the battle between conservation and development as contentious as ever. No two sites have the same land characteristic and as a result, groups may bear disproportionally based on their access to immediate resources ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These logs tell an operator that problematic events have occurred, such as potential attempts to exploit a vulnerable service, malformed but not necessarily malicious traffic, new services starting that should not be running, or users violating a corporate policy, for example, by using instant messaging (IM). Bro has two different types of event handlers for information notification that might interest the operator/analyst. The notice function handles everything from errors to engine messages to notification of potentially bad information. By default, a notice is stored in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The major drawback of this approach, however, is that scanning network traffic running on all ports dramatically increases the processing load on the IDS, which easily leads to an underpowered system dropping packets and missing potential attacks. This approach will not be viable on a low powered single board computer as we intend to use. However, both IDS approaches do some form of protocol parsing to give to the analysts the ability to finely control what they want to search for when examining a given protocol. Bro IDS includes a facility to perform signature based detection and a tool called snort2bro that converts Snort signatures to Bro IDS signatures. Same, Snort IDS signatures can be written to search for anomalous traffic on a given network. However, this capability is limited by which stream based interpreter the signature system can understand when finding anomalous traffic. Both Snort and Bro also contain mechanisms to deal with multistage attacks. Snort s detection in this area is primarily stream oriented: through the use of its flow bits keyword, Snort can tag a given TCP stream or even a UDP pseudo stream (an active UDP conversation as having had part of the components necessary for a successful attack without actually generating an alert). In such a case, a second or third rule then becomes active on the stream in question, which generates an alert only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Devil s Arithmetic Analysis Contradicting the glowing reviews of this novel, there are many things that can be improved about The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. The point of view, as it came from a twelve year old, withheld some important points and perspectives. Although it gave an opportunity for some serious character development, certain scenes were trivialized, such as the dinner. Hannah described her discomfort for most of the time instead of focusing on the importance and meaning of certain moments. Because of this, the reader doesn t have an opportunity to learn more about modern Jewish tradition, something that seems almost obvious to have in this type of book. Although the concept of time travel and her disappearing memories were very interesting, one doesn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville Bartleby, the Scrivener is an interesting short story written by Herman Melville for Putnam s magazine at a time when Melville was in need for money (Davis 183). The narrator opens with a description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon after, the narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the namesake of the story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he started off copying as desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him; how he was eventually fired but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how he was put into prison; and how he died of starvation while incarcerated. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, we know the narrator to be the protagonist due to the fact that he is the one that experiences conflict in the story. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led toward a realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this realization has to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical ideals, or, in other words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the protagonist of a story is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can thereby deduce that the lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the implication that the lawyer is the protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this truly is the case. Notably, we cannot possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe himself because we only know of the lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that although Bartleby is the main focus of the narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally, Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife, and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact, Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader, like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ethics Case Contemplation, Dilemma At Devil s Den The ethics case contemplation, Dilemma at Devil s Den, is an unblemished precedent of the challenges that can appear at an establishment that question s the moral ethics of business. The Devil s Den is a snack bar on a college campus, which employed approximately 36 students with 6 of them in management positions. Evening and weekend positions were difficult to fill, and wages were low, making employees valuable. Therefore, the managers were more flexible in their actions and correction measures were not enforced. In order for this den to carry on in an ethical manner it transpired to be a challenge and culture shock for all staff involved. The daily activities happening at the Devil s Den are unethical, some of them being minor issues, but in the case with ethics small things can become big things. The line is blurred as to where you draw the line. At the Devil s Den, employees are allowed to eat things out of the store room when working. But, they were abusing this privilege by taking sizeable amounts of food home when their shift was complete as well as when they were off duty. In addition, customers and employee friends have been doing this as well, following suit of the employee s actions since they were never confronted.
