Executive Cash Compensation As The Proxy For The Ceo s...
Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion (Rogers,
2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are more likely to
become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid risk. I measure cash
compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural logarithm bonus. Following
existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002) the sensitivity of CEO wealth to
stock price is also included as an additional control variables for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking
incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive relationship between firm size and CEO risk
taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical
studies show that growth opportunities are also expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking
incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier
compensation studies, the market to book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities.
In contrast, leverage is expected to be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers,
2002). Financial leverage increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is
lesser need to provide the CEO with a risk taking incentive. I utilize the debt ration (book value of
debt to book value of assets) as a proxy for leverage (Rogers, 2002). Similar to

War Is Kind Analysis
War is seen as disturbing, violent, depressing and stressful. Although some may think of it as
honorable or may even welcome their own death in a war because of the glory that can come with it,
others believe in the protest against the brutal acts of war. Several writers such as Stephen Crane,
Wilfred Owen, Tim O Brien, and Kevin Powers are especially known to protest against war through
their forms of writing. In order to strengthen their arguments and persuade audiences to prevent acts of
war, they use techniques such as imagery, irony and structure to reveal the disturbing truths behind
war. Imagery is one of the most powerful tools that writers try to use when protesting war because it
serves as a simpler way to present clearer images ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although structure is a complex tool to use when trying to support an argument, it can serve as one of
the most impactful tools that authors can use because it is sets up their form of writing and presents
the audience with a specific style. The style that is created from the writer s structure is what affects
the reader s mindset on the topic of the writing. For example, if a writing s structure is set up like a
list, then the reader is most likely going to believe that the author is just trying to get to each of his or
her points without trying to make the reader feel any emotion and so their writing is going to sound
dull or bland. The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien has a structure set up just like that type of list.
His list consists of the necessities that soldiers carried to war such as P 38 can openers, pocket knives,
heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets,
packets of Kool Aid, lighters, matches, sewing kits, Military Payment Certificates, C rations, and two
or three canteens of water (2). O Brien uses a list to help create his structure by implying that most of
this equipment can not help them and the tone it creates is straightforward to imply the dull aspects of
war. O Brien also uses parallel structure with his lists to emphasize the items they carried by creating a
feeling of repetitiveness.

Stereotypes In Everyday Life
From one day to the next, a traumatic experience can detrimentally change one s life, and just like
that, a person s daily life can dramatically change. Stereotypes are pictures that people get from a
certain type of group that can be judged and can be exaggerated to a point where opinions tend to get
out of hand. People live in a world where people judge others from top to bottom, when one sees
others living their life in a way differently than they would live theirs, causes them to judge for the
way the different people live. My personal experience has definitely made me a stronger person in
hundreds of ways. In the summer of 2014, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. A
couple months later on, she then lost the ability to swallow food through her mouth. It was a ton to
take in and there was nothing one could do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stereotypes are cognitions or beliefs that people make. Stereotypes are used to categorize a group of
people based on their appearance. Yes, stereotypes may be based on truths, yet tend to be quite
exaggerated. Stereotypes can be a widely believed picture of what people have, looking at the person
and wanting to judge. Not all stereotypes are negative. Some may be bad, or (some) may be about
good things that people assume, yet not know. Misconceptions are used based on untruths or
assumptions someone makes and also opinions that are wrong that people tend to make from false
impressions, or faulty understandings. Misconceptions are ideas and beliefs individuals have that are
incorrect and have false information, or the informations is clearly not understood by one. A

I know that the First Nations population pyramid reflects it as a developing country due to the fact that
the signature big youth base and small adult top is present, compared to the moderate youth base and
high adult top. Furthermore the living conditions as so bad for the First Nations in Canada that on
average 4 or 5 families live in one house with an average of 3 4 bedrooms and over 100 communities
nationwide have boil water advisories. My recommendation to help solve this issue is to help improve
the housing and living conditions in the reserves by granting access to subsidized housing through
various grants given to each community based upon the number of residents which would also open
up a wide variety of jobs in the secondary and tertiary sectors. Recommendation #3 On the second
graph it displayed the percentage of First Nations people in the total population of every province and
Canada in general. I have noticed that graph has shown the fact that even though Canada s First
Nations account for about 4% of our population, the account for up to 85% of our population in some
of our most desolate regions of Canada, but in most of our more developed provinces such as Ontario
the First Nations people only account for 1% of its population. My recommendation to help the
population distribution across the country is to encourage the First Nations to move to more developed
provinces with more

Salinity In Vibrios
Temperature and salinity are known to play important and interrelated roles in the levels of Vibrio spp.
Kelly and Stroh (1988) reported that V. parahaemolyticus was found in Pacific Northwest coastal
waters only during the summer months, when water temperatures were above 17 °C and salinities
were below 13 ppt. Further research by Kaspar and Tamplin (1993) demonstrated that V. vulnificus
levels increased when salinities was between 5 and 25 ppt, ; however, when salinities were 30, 35, and
38 ppt, V. vulnificus levels decreased by 58%, 88%, and 83%, respectively. The same situation was
reported by Motes and others (1998), who also observed a decrease of V. vulnificus numbers at

Accordingly to the effect of pH, Karem and others (1994) demonstrated that when Aeromonas
hydrophila suspended in broth was shifted from pH 7.2 to 5.0 (conditioned), cells survived longer
when exposed to a further pH downshift equal to 3.5. Thus, it appears that A. hydrophila exhibits an
adaptive mechanism of acid tolerance response capable of protecting cells at pH values as low as 3.5.
Wong and others (1998) found that V. parahaemolyticus was more acid tolerant in the broth model
when it was initially conditioned by a pH downshift from 7.5 to 5.0. Koga and others (1999) studies
demonstrate that acid adapted V. parahaemolyticus cells had an increased resistance to heat (47 °C),
crystal violet, bile, and deoxycholic acid, when compared to non adapted cells. In addition, these
investigators noticed a change in the composition of the outer membrane protein of acid adapted cells.
For V. vulnificus, Koo and others (2000) reported a strain to strain differences in acid tolerance
although there was a pH value (somewhere around pH 2.0) below which all strains were inactivated.
Bang and Drake (2004) reported that 3 strains of V. vulnificus have shown increased acid resistance in
broth acidified with citric acid (pH 3.5) after prior adaptation at pH 5.5, regardless of strain and
duration of adaptation time; the same

Consumerism In Children
Introduction
When I was two years old my mother enrolled me in gymnastics. Gymnastics was a huge part of my
life for the next four years. After moving up to be with the fourteen and fifteen year olds my mother
realized that something was not right, because I was having body issues at the age of six. In the text
How Do Our Children Get So Caught Up In Consumerism by Brian Swimme he addresses the issue of
how deeply affected the children of America are due to consumerism. Unlike Swimme I do not believe
that all of children s psyche problems come from ads or television. I think they also come from people
who our children highly trust. Although Swimme is right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I wanted to look like the beautiful people on television so badly that I compromised my health for it.
Argument
Although ads and the media play a big part in the psyche of children, people with influence over our
children also play a major part. Swimme said in his quotation So as we soak it all up, it sinks down
deep in our psyche. And if this takes place in the adult soul, imagine how much more damage is done
in the psyches of our children, (148) this goes both ways between ads, media, and parents/trusted
people in children s lives. Swimme says An ad s job is to make us unhappy with what we have. which
is exactly what they are doing. They use pictures of unrealistic looking models to make children,
especially little girls, feel bad about the way they look. My coach used the same tactics on me. He
made me feel unhappy with the way I looked so I strived to look like the older girls did, tall, pretty,
and most of all, slender. The media uses shows like Americas Next Top Model (ANTM) to show that
skinny is the way to be. On this show in particular, only the skinny girls making it to be ANTM. That
is exactly how my coach made me feel. He made me feel like if I was not skinny enough I would
never make it to the Olympics no matter how good I was.
Objection
Even though people that children trust can have a big influence on their lives the media can also. One
of the ways the media affects children are with images. Even though

american character
American Character Then and Now
A notion that still holds strong today, Fredrick Jackson Turner s idea of American character was one
based on trials and experiences. Unlike Crevecour, Turner believed that American character was not
simply a product of English character transported to America, but rather another idea altogether
(Faragher 63). He expressed this opinion the best when he said, In the crucible of the frontier the
immigrants were Americanized, liberated, and fused into a mixed race, English in neither nationality
nor characteristics (Faragher 64). How exactly did American character form and what defines ... Show

The combination of the Turner thesis and Peck s translation of it, provided a foundation that would
help form American identity: individualism and collectivity. A perfect example of this today is the
sport of baseball, America s pastime.
By the time Turner presented his thesis in 1893 at the Colombian Exhibition in Chicago, the myth of
the cowboy and the myth of the frontier had already made their way into novels for the enjoyment of
east coasters who were curious of the west (Cullen 127). Characters like Buffalo Bill, Nathaniel
(Natty) Bumpo, and Daniel Boone helped illustrated American character. The introduction of she
males, women with feminine and masculine qualities, were also an important feature of these novels
west (Cullen 127). Characters like Jane, from Calamity Jane by Edward L. Wheeler, were like
predecessors of women rights; they were heroines who demanded and received, but remained
kindhearted at the same time (Faber all).
Although all of these characters had a very profound role in molding people s impression of the west,
the novel which combined many individual roles of each western into one was probably The Virginian
by Own Wister. This novel was so influential in helping to engrave American character in that it
incorporated Turner s idea of the disappearing

systems called the gong show and charettes . These two systems were great ways to get people to

and they would get reactions from other people at the meeting. Having these two systems was a good
way for people in an organization to know one another and how they tend to operate. Also, it is one
way for an organization to become big and successful.
One of the things I don t agree with in Eisner s style of being an idea generator is how these meetings

Animal cruelty encompasses a range of different behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to

Theories Explaining Relationship Between Headquarters and...
Headquarters
How useful are theories of convergence, divergence and crossvergence in explaining the complexities
of relationships between headquarters and subsidiaries?
The various theories are providing a way for firms to understand cultural differences and address these
issues. This is achieved through utilizing these strategies in conjunction with one another to
comprehend the root causes of the problems and introduce solutions to them. When this happens, a
neutral culture is established that is taking into account numerous traditions and theories. These
different ideas are providing an avenue for dealing with the complex relationship that exists between
headquarters and their subsidiaries. This is the point that everyone can communicate and collaborate
on a host of issues (using a culturally neutral perspective). (Janssen 2009) (King 2009)
How is this theoretical framework similar to or different from other cross cultural management
frameworks which you have studied in this module?
The theoretical framework is focusing on using similar tools and tactics in order to reach out to a
larger group of individuals. This designed to enhance everyone s understanding of cultural attributes
and what are most relevant inside the workplace. It is at this point when select traditions can be
combined with the home country s practices and company policies to create a neutral environment. (Li

General
Our Town is a so called slice of life story, which means that the reader is able to relate to the story. He
feels like he is involved in the play, because of its representation of the daily life and all those little
things in life which makes it interesting.
Theme
Our town has a carpe diem theme. Translated it means seize the day, people should concentrate
themselves on the little things in life which are often unappreciated. In some way, the play

Uncertainty Reduction Theory Essay
The Uncertainty Reduction Theory states that before and during initial interactions between two
people, one s first instinct is to reduce uncertainty about the other through various methods. For
example, when you see someone you think you would like to know, you try and figure out what they
are like through various methods so you can control the conversation and steer it into a path that the
other person finds interesting. There are a few methods, or strategies, of figuring out what the other
person likes: passive, active, and interactive. In the passive strategy, you try to find out the other
person s interests through observation from afar. This happens without their knowledge, because you
re trying to figure out what they re like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens most frequently in what is commonly referred to as small talk. Since I am a rather shy
person, I don t generally use the active nor the interactive strategy of reducing uncertainty. However,
because I do spend most of my time online, the easiest way of finding out more information about
someone is through passive strategy. While most people do think it s a little creepy to search for
someone specifically, even more would agree that it would be creepy to start a conversation with
friends of a person you re searching about online. In real life encounters, I still generally use the
passive strategy of observing people, mainly because my social skills are less than adequate. From my
non experience, I can infer that each of the interpersonal encounters have their benefits and
drawbacks. The passive strategy does get you information about the person you re looking for, but if it
comes up how you got the information you know, it could severely impact the potential relationship
you could have with that person. The active strategy gives you information by proxy, and also has the
added bonus of getting to know the kind of people your person socializes with, as well. Unfortunately,
as previously stated, faulty information is easy to get with this method, and it s possible the people
you talk with will tell the person you want to know, causing them to avoid you. And finally, the
interactive strategy gives

The Grand Canyon is carven deep by the master hand; it is the gulf of silence, widened in the desert; it

of the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon. The 1,450 mile long, life giving Colorado
River runs through the Grand Canyon, and it supplies water to much of Arizona and its neighboring

According to the EPA, two of the best and most effective ways to conserve water include metering and
drip irrigation ( How to Conserve Water and Use It Effectively ). Metering is effective because
surcharges also give customers a financial incentive to use less water on landscaped areas (Vickers
340). If home and business owners meter their water, then these people will tend to use less water
because they can control the flow of water during the day and night. They can set specific times to
have the water on. Also, metering shows how much water a household or industry is using, and by
being able to observe the amount of water used, water is conserved because water bills increase. One
drawback to metering is that it has an initial start up cost. While it does cost an initial deposit to
install, metering eventually saves money and conserves water. Studies show that metering reduces
water usage and saves money in the long term (Vickers 382). Not only does metering systems need to
be implemented into Arizona s households and industries, but also drip irrigation needs to be used

The Reflex Of A Reflex
Sometimes people go to a doctor appointment and they get their knee with a small rubber hammer? Or
they go to the eye doctor and had them put drops in their eyes to dilate their pupils? These are all in
some way connected to a reflex.
Reflexes A reflex is an involuntary, or nearly instantaneous movement in response to a change in the
environment. Reflexes are done without having to think about it. All healthy people are born with
most reflexes that can help to protect themselves from harm.
Reaction versus Reflexes Reactions and reflexes are two different types of responses. A reaction is a
choice that is made by mentally making a decision. On the contrary, a reflex is instinctive and
automatic. A reaction goes through the sensory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grasp appears at birth but only continues for another five or six months. This reflex occurs if a
finger is placed on their open palm. The infant s hand will close around the finger and trying to
remove the finger causes the grip to tighten. Newborn infants have strong grasps and can almost be
lifted up if both hands are grasping fingers! The moro reflex, also called the startle reflex, is likely to
occur if the following happen: the infant s head suddenly shifts in position, the temperature changes
abruptly, they are startled by a sudden noise, or the sensation of falling takes place. Even the baby s
own cry may cause this reflex! The legs and head extend while the arms jerk up and out with the
palms up and thumbs flexed. The step reflex is sparked when the sole of the foot touch a hard surface.
The infant then lifts one foot, then the other, as if walking.
Children and Adult Reflexes Many infant reflexes continue into toddlerhood and some stay with
people all of our lives. Adults and children have reflexes such as the following: the accommodation
reflex, acoustic reflex, pupillary light reflex, brachioradialis reflex, deep tendon reflex, and patellar
reflex. These reflexes can help our bodies to stay protected and safe.
Accommodation Reflex The accommodation reflex is an action of the eye in response to focusing on a

The Influence Of Friday Night Lights On Football Culture
The main idea of this paper is to introduce you to what really happens as a high school athlete and the
things you learn along the way. High school sports is way more than just playing the sport, it shows
you what you are really made of and how to handle problems life is going to throw at you. The
adversity you face as an athlete carries over to real world problems and you have been there and done
that, so handling adversity is second nature. This information comes from all my coaches, myself and
Friday Night Lights. I feel I have already grown as a person by competing in athletics and calling
other people my brothers. Not only does high school athletics help you in the long run, but it helps you

football culture the star quarterback who was paralyzed would get endless amounts of support. Not
only from his family, but his football family too. The football family along with his real family would

culture creates a bond that can never be broken and Friday Night Lights did a bad job of showing that
truth, but in other cases, Friday Night Lights did an amazing job by showing the truth of football
culture by how they handle adversity. Adversity is everywhere and can hit you at any time of the day
and any day in the year. As adversity hit the star Running Back Dash, he folded it up and called it
quits. He was going to be a gangster and play the streets game, but something changed inside of Dash.
After the abuse charges and numerous of injuries he could not quit, he worked harder than he has ever
worked before. He pushed himself to the limit and got that scholarship he dreamed of getting. You
might ask what changed inside of Dash, and that answer is his coach. His coach walked to his house
and told him how it was, he saw great talent and a great young man. All Dash needed was a reminder
and throughout all the problems that have been explained in this paper you always need that back bone
of advice and Friday Night Lights did a fantastic job of proving that. In the TV show the coach was
the backbone for advice. Any problems the players faced they went straight to the coach. They did not

Moliere s Tartuffe By William Moliere
The Enlightenment ushered in the idea that reason should be exercised in thinking instead of passion.
Moliere s Tartuffe was written to challenge the dominant political and religious views of its time. The
Catholic church viewed Moliere s Tartuffe as a threat to their faith and banned the play from being
performed in public. Moliere became one of the great Enlightenment thinkers because of his
willingness to speak out against the large corrupt institutions that many people did not have the
courage to question.
Marcel Gutwirth states, Who is Tartuffe? Who is the wretch come barefoot into the home of a man of
some wealth and note who, in the teeth of almost universal detestation, establishes a grip upon that
household so tenacious that the intervention of the sovereign is needed to shake him loose and send
him packing? The play, as had been remarked, refuses to make up its mind. The rubicund glutton of
the second act or the sinister jail bird of the fifth, the religious hypocrite or the professional confidence
man, the professed nobleman the provinces or the penniless impostor make for a range that takes in
some mutually exclusive possibilities. Two things stand out: he does lay claim to a very special
relation to heaven; and, though far less overtly, sex exercises an equally strong claim on his person. A
third fact, which we shall take up first, is his successful occupation of that well nigh impregnable

The Theory Of Knowledge Essay
Theory of knowledge essay
To what extent do the concepts we use shape the conclusions that we reach?
Since my childhood I have always been told Education is the key to success! and there is absolutely
no other way to achieving beyond more than just survival in this fast paced but deeply cruel and
competitive world. That was a concept endlessly hammered into my head by society, it however never
appealed to me simply because of the fact that I found it a concept, something which according to the
Longman dictionary of Contemporary English is defined as an idea of how something is, or how
something should be done.
These, I found, are generated from a seed of contrasting emotions composed of either fear or
negligence within society. In addition, conclusions are known as something one may decide after
considering all the information one has. The purpose of this essay is to explore how concepts impact
conclusions reached by us, through finding ways to dissect and address the knowledge question To
what extent are concepts trustworthy if they change over time? Investigations into how credible and
where these seemingly vital rules and conventions readied to alter our views may originate from will

Main Ideas and Themes of Beowulf Essay
Beowulf and Sir Gawain have many things in common. We will be discussing them later on, but their
main similarity is that they re both heroes. A hero is a person who must pass through a test and a battle
(mental, spiritual or physical) to help someone else. He must be selfless, and act for others rather than
himself. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules and the modern day
Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. Heroes don t have to be stereotypes,
but can be firemen, policemen or soldiers. Two famous heroes in ancient literature are Beowulf and
Sir Gawain.

Beowulf s test is to defeat the evil creature Grendel, protecting his hall and soldiers. Sir Gawain s test
is to resist temptation to steal a magic belt, and steal the master s wife! Even though both tests are
different, Beowulf s test and Gawain s test both test courage. The courage to take on a monster and the
courage to resist stealing and keeping you re word! In the end, both succeeded, Grendel was killed,
and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had consequences. Beowulf s friends got
killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and
lost his honor.
The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of villains.
In Beowulf the enemy is a dark monster, which eats human and has super strength, enough to bend
iron. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to a grueling
beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird magical qualities.
Both have supernatural powers and striking appearances, but the difference is that in sir Gawain and
the green knight, the green knight is just the master of the kingdom in disguise, testing the nobility of
King Arthur s knights, and not a mortal enemy.

Toni Morrison Victimizers
In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests that
the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first creating a
character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate
another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use
the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of
their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come
from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. This
work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities of victims and victimizers in the same
characters to show that people can be both. According to Oxford dictionary, the formal definition of a

The Physical Pain, Mental Suffering, and Moral Wickedness...
Evil refers to physical pain, mental suffering and moral wickedness. This pain includes such major
scourges as poverty, oppression, persecution, war, all injustice, indignity and inequality that occur in
human societies. It is however, important to note that although a great deal of pain and suffering are
caused by human action, there is much more that arises from natural causes as bacteria and
earthquakes, storm, fire, lightening, flood and drought. Another type of evil that can be identified is
mental evil. Evil in Plutonian sense is referred to as the absence of Good and Perfection. In this state
of nothingness, as regarded the process of necessary emanation from the One, evil precedes from
matter. Matter is the principle of Evil (Stump 134). From the matter, Evil is considered as the stage
where irrationality or lack of perfection prevails, Evil in the Plutonian differs from African
understanding of Evil. In African point of view Evil is considered as the lack of good between the
individuals and always is associated with devil and not only a state of nothingness as defined by
Plotinus. Evil is associated with the devil; it is a rival god that contends conflict with the good gods.
Plotinus describe evil as the lack of something lack of perfection; lack of forms for the material body
(formless), which is not in itself essentially evil. The descent of the soul to matter or material body
makes the soul vulnerable to the inclinations of Evil. It can also be explained as

Initial Public Offering by a Company
Initial Public Offerings: An initial public offering is the decision by a company to sell its stock to the
public for the first time. In some cases, this process is described as a transaction with which an
investment banking company generates investment capital though making the company to go public.
One of the most critical aspects within an initial public offering is significant public interest because
investment bankers generate huge fees depending on the amount of capital raised. Consequently, the
interest of investment bankers is usually attracted by large or well recognized companies. Initial public
offerings are sometimes characterized with huge gains on the first day but they tend to flop when the
financial market is cold. Overview of Initial Public Offerings: The decision by a company to go public
and sell its stock to the public is normally an expensive process, especially for small companies. This
decision is guided by a consideration of the advantages and disadvantages involved in going public. A
privately held company may decide to sell its stock to the public through an initial public offering due
to several reasons. First, such a company may engage in an initial public offering when it seeks to
raise extra capital through the sale of ownership to the public ( Initial Public Offerings Investor Guide
, par, 2). However, the most common reason is that the capital generated through this process doesn t
need to be repaid though debt securities like bonds

Education And Study At Universities
There are many reasons why people decide to continue their education and study at Universities. It
may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc.
However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a gateway to
obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self employment. It s commonly
believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would get a well paid job.
However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don t want to work in a steady paid job, but who
wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a University degree? Would, in the
course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a successful entrepreneur? Does higher
education teach the necessary skills to help people be successful in running a business? Thus, lead to
my research topic. I would like to investigate whether successful entrepreneurs obtained their
necessary skills whilst studying at University.
To begin with, how do we define a successful entrepreneur ? The Cambridge Dictionary defines
successful as achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and/ or
made a lot of money [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an entrepreneur is
someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity

Persuasive Essay On The Process Of Bathing Your Cat
While cats become aggressive when wet, general grooming is required to help keep your cat s skin
and fur in healthy peak condition because regular grooming keeps their coats clean and skin healthy.
many kittens are not able to keep themselves completely clean despite their natural grooming instincts
and their coats become greasy .Overweight cats have a harder time reaching the fur on their back, so it
is often matted and dry, which can lead to infections.
The first step to bathing your cat is to have the area where the bathing is to take place in the best order
it can be. This can mean just tidying up or moving unnecessary objects out of the way. The area where
you decide to bathe your cat should be taken into thought. Bathtubs work the best, but if you do not
own one your kitchen or bathroom sink can also work. The water you use to bathe your cat should be
at least three inches in height, and luke warm so not to scold the cat, but not cold because then the
animal might go into shock. When choosing your soap you need to be careful of what you use and to
only use shampoo formulated for the use of cats or non toxic dish soaps like Dawn. You should keep a
towel at hand at all times while bathing your cat. When rinsing your cat you can use a large bowl or a
cup to pour clean water over the animal.

Torture In The 8th Amendment
Solitary confinement can be considered as torture by several people due to the mental pain or suffering
that is caused by it. But would solitary confinement be considered an unusual and cruel punishment to
the point of violating the eighth amendment? Is torture considered a bad thing? Solitary confinement
has been the only choice that the system could think of in order to reprimand those who have already
done something wrong. Torture is often used for the purpose of having a positive outcome, which is
not a bad thing depending on the situation and its extent. The eighth amendment of the United States
Constitution was first introduced by James Madison for the purpose of prohibiting some punishments
that are not legal, such as painful and hard labor. This amendment states that punishments must be fair,
not cruel, and must have a certain limit. The eighth amendment also prohibits the imposition of
excessive bail and excessive fines. For example, an accused must be treated as an innocent person
before he or she is proven otherwise. Excessive bail depends on how severe the situations are. Other
great examples of the 8th amendment prohibitions are castration, burning at the stake, and quartering.
Based on the wording of the amendment, I believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United
States does not violate citizens eighth amendment rights. A cruel and unusual punishment would be
considered grossly disproportionate, which doesn t exactly concord with solitary

  • 2. Executive Cash Compensation As The Proxy For The Ceo s... Literature includes CEO cash compensation as the proxy for the CEO s level of risk aversion (Rogers, 2002; Nam et al., 2003; Coles et al., 2006). CEOs with higher cash compensation are more likely to become more risk avers. CEO s with high cash compensation will seek to avoid risk. I measure cash compensation as the natural logarithm of the salary and the natural logarithm bonus. Following existing literature (e.g., Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002) the sensitivity of CEO wealth to stock price is also included as an additional control variables for CEO risk aversion in the risk taking incentive model. Guay (1999) documents a positive relationship between firm size and CEO risk taking incentives. I measure firm size as the total sales at the end of the year. Previous empirical studies show that growth opportunities are also expected to be positively related to CEO risk taking incentives (Guay, 1999; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Coles et al., 2006). Consistent with earlier compensation studies, the market to book value of assets is used as a proxy for growth opportunities. In contrast, leverage is expected to be negatively associated with the risk taking incentives (Rogers, 2002). Financial leverage increases the probability of financial distress increase and, therefore, there is lesser need to provide the CEO with a risk taking incentive. I utilize the debt ration (book value of debt to book value of assets) as a proxy for leverage (Rogers, 2002). Similar to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. War Is Kind Analysis War is seen as disturbing, violent, depressing and stressful. Although some may think of it as honorable or may even welcome their own death in a war because of the glory that can come with it, others believe in the protest against the brutal acts of war. Several writers such as Stephen Crane, Wilfred Owen, Tim O Brien, and Kevin Powers are especially known to protest against war through their forms of writing. In order to strengthen their arguments and persuade audiences to prevent acts of war, they use techniques such as imagery, irony and structure to reveal the disturbing truths behind war. Imagery is one of the most powerful tools that writers try to use when protesting war because it serves as a simpler way to present clearer images ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although structure is a complex tool to use when trying to support an argument, it can serve as one of the most impactful tools that authors can use because it is sets up their form of writing and presents the audience with a specific style. The style that is created from the writer s structure is what affects the reader s mindset on the topic of the writing. For example, if a writing s structure is set up like a list, then the reader is most likely going to believe that the author is just trying to get to each of his or her points without trying to make the reader feel any emotion and so their writing is going to sound dull or bland. The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien has a structure set up just like that type of list. His list consists of the necessities that soldiers carried to war such as P 38 can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets, packets of Kool Aid, lighters, matches, sewing kits, Military Payment Certificates, C rations, and two or three canteens of water (2). O Brien uses a list to help create his structure by implying that most of this equipment can not help them and the tone it creates is straightforward to imply the dull aspects of war. O Brien also uses parallel structure with his lists to emphasize the items they carried by creating a feeling of repetitiveness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Stereotypes In Everyday Life From one day to the next, a traumatic experience can detrimentally change one s life, and just like that, a person s daily life can dramatically change. Stereotypes are pictures that people get from a certain type of group that can be judged and can be exaggerated to a point where opinions tend to get out of hand. People live in a world where people judge others from top to bottom, when one sees others living their life in a way differently than they would live theirs, causes them to judge for the way the different people live. My personal experience has definitely made me a stronger person in hundreds of ways. In the summer of 2014, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. A couple months later on, she then lost the ability to swallow food through her mouth. It was a ton to take in and there was nothing one could do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stereotypes are cognitions or beliefs that people make. Stereotypes are used to categorize a group of people based on their appearance. Yes, stereotypes may be based on truths, yet tend to be quite exaggerated. Stereotypes can be a widely believed picture of what people have, looking at the person and wanting to judge. Not all stereotypes are negative. Some may be bad, or (some) may be about good things that people assume, yet not know. Misconceptions are used based on untruths or assumptions someone makes and also opinions that are wrong that people tend to make from false impressions, or faulty understandings. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know that the First Nations population pyramid reflects it as a developing country due to the fact that the signature big youth base and small adult top is present, compared to the moderate youth base and high adult top. Furthermore the living conditions as so bad for the First Nations in Canada that on average 4 or 5 families live in one house with an average of 3 4 bedrooms and over 100 communities nationwide have boil water advisories. My recommendation to help solve this issue is to help improve the housing and living conditions in the reserves by granting access to subsidized housing through various grants given to each community based upon the number of residents which would also open up a wide variety of jobs in the secondary and tertiary sectors. Recommendation #3 On the second graph it displayed the percentage of First Nations people in the total population of every province and Canada in general. I have noticed that graph has shown the fact that even though Canada s First Nations account for about 4% of our population, the account for up to 85% of our population in some of our most desolate regions of Canada, but in most of our more developed provinces such as Ontario the First Nations people only account for 1% of its population. My recommendation to help the population distribution across the country is to encourage the First Nations to move to more developed provinces with more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salinity In Vibrios Temperature and salinity are known to play important and interrelated roles in the levels of Vibrio spp. Kelly and Stroh (1988) reported that V. parahaemolyticus was found in Pacific Northwest coastal waters only during the summer months, when water temperatures were above 17 °C and salinities were below 13 ppt. Further research by Kaspar and Tamplin (1993) demonstrated that V. vulnificus levels increased when salinities was between 5 and 25 ppt, ; however, when salinities were 30, 35, and 38 ppt, V. vulnificus levels decreased by 58%, 88%, and 83%, respectively. Accordingly to the effect of pH, Karem and others (1994) demonstrated that when Aeromonas hydrophila suspended in broth was shifted from pH 7.2 to 5.0 (conditioned), cells survived longer when exposed to a further pH downshift equal to 3.5. Thus, it appears that A. hydrophila exhibits an adaptive mechanism of acid tolerance response capable of protecting cells at pH values as low as 3.5. Wong and others (1998) found that V. parahaemolyticus was more acid tolerant in the broth model when it was initially conditioned by a pH downshift from 7.5 to 5.0. Koga and others (1999) studies demonstrate that acid adapted V. parahaemolyticus cells had an increased resistance to heat (47 °C), crystal violet, bile, and deoxycholic acid, when compared to non adapted cells. In addition, these investigators noticed a change in the composition of the outer membrane protein of acid adapted cells. For V. vulnificus, Koo and others (2000) reported a strain to strain differences in acid tolerance although there was a pH value (somewhere around pH 2.0) below which all strains were inactivated. Bang and Drake (2004) reported that 3 strains of V. vulnificus have shown increased acid resistance in broth acidified with citric acid (pH 3.5) after prior adaptation at pH 5.5, regardless of strain and duration of adaptation time; the same ... Gymnastics was a huge part of my life for the next four years. After moving up to be with the fourteen and fifteen year olds my mother realized that something was not right, because I was having body issues at the age of six. In the text How Do Our Children Get So Caught Up In Consumerism by Brian Swimme he addresses the issue of how deeply affected the children of America are due to consumerism. And if this takes place in the adult soul, imagine how much more damage is done in the psyches of our children, (148) this goes both ways between ads, media, and parents/trusted people in children s lives. Swimme says An ad s job is to make us unhappy with what we have. which is exactly what they are doing. They use pictures of unrealistic looking models to make children, especially little girls, feel bad about the way they look. My coach used the same tactics on me. He made me feel unhappy with the way I looked so I strived to look like the older girls did, tall, pretty, and most of all, slender. The media uses shows like Americas Next Top Model (ANTM) to show that skinny is the way to be. On this show in particular, only the skinny girls making it to be ANTM. Unlike Crevecour, Turner believed that American character was not simply a product of English character transported to America, but rather another idea altogether (Faragher 63). The combination of the Turner thesis and Peck s translation of it, provided a foundation that would help form American identity: individualism and collectivity. A perfect example of this today is the sport of baseball, America s pastime. By the time Turner presented his thesis in 1893 at the Colombian Exhibition in Chicago, the myth of the cowboy and the myth of the frontier had already made their way into novels for the enjoyment of east coasters who were curious of the west (Cullen 127). Characters like Buffalo Bill, Nathaniel (Natty) Bumpo, and Daniel Boone helped illustrated American character. The introduction of she males, women with feminine and masculine qualities, were also an important feature of these novels west (Cullen 127). Characters like Jane, from Calamity Jane by Edward L. Wheeler, were like predecessors of women rights; they were heroines who demanded and received, but remained kindhearted at the same time (Faber all). Although all of these characters had a very profound role in molding people s impression of the west, the novel which combined many individual roles of each western into one was probably The Virginian by Own Wister. For example, when you see someone you think you would like to know, you try and figure out what they are like through various methods so you can control the conversation and steer it into a path that the other person finds interesting. There are a few methods, or strategies, of figuring out what the other person likes: passive, active, and interactive. While most people do think it s a little creepy to search for someone specifically, even more would agree that it would be creepy to start a conversation with friends of a person you re searching about online. In real life encounters, I still generally use the passive strategy of observing people, mainly because my social skills are less than adequate. The passive strategy does get you information about the person you re looking for, but if it comes up how you got the information you know, it could severely impact the potential relationship you could have with that person. If home and business owners meter their water, then these people will tend to use less water because they can control the flow of water during the day and night. They can set specific times to have the water on. Also, metering shows how much water a household or industry is using, and by being able to observe the amount of water used, water is conserved because water bills increase. One drawback to metering is that it has an initial start up cost. While it does cost an initial deposit to install, metering eventually saves money and conserves water. • 32. Toni Morrison Victimizers In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests that the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first creating a character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s purpose is to explain where we come from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with the world, each other, and our pasts. This work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities of victims and victimizers in the same characters to show that people can be both. • 35. The Physical Pain, Mental Suffering, and Moral Wickedness... Evil refers to physical pain, mental suffering and moral wickedness. This pain includes such major scourges as poverty, oppression, persecution, war, all injustice, indignity and inequality that occur in human societies. It is however, important to note that although a great deal of pain and suffering are caused by human action, there is much more that arises from natural causes as bacteria and earthquakes, storm, fire, lightening, flood and drought. Another type of evil that can be identified is mental evil. Evil in Plutonian sense is referred to as the absence of Good and Perfection. In this state of nothingness, as regarded the process of necessary emanation from the One, evil precedes from matter. Matter is the principle of Evil (Stump 134). From the matter, Evil is considered as the stage where irrationality or lack of perfection prevails, Evil in the Plutonian differs from African understanding of Evil. In African point of view Evil is considered as the lack of good between the individuals and always is associated with devil and not only a state of nothingness as defined by Plotinus. Persuasive Essay On The Process Of Bathing Your Cat While cats become aggressive when wet, general grooming is required to help keep your cat s skin and fur in healthy peak condition because regular grooming keeps their coats clean and skin healthy. many kittens are not able to keep themselves completely clean despite their natural grooming instincts and their coats become greasy .Overweight cats have a harder time reaching the fur on their back, so it is often matted and dry, which can lead to infections. The first step to bathing your cat is to have the area where the bathing is to take place in the best order it can be. This can mean just tidying up or moving unnecessary objects out of the way. The area where you decide to bathe your cat should be taken into thought. Bathtubs work the best, but if you do not own one your kitchen or bathroom sink can also work. The water you use to bathe your cat should be at least three inches in height, and luke warm so not to scold the cat, but not cold because then the animal might go into shock. When choosing your soap you need to be careful of what you use and to only use shampoo formulated for the use of cats or non toxic dish soaps like Dawn. You should keep a towel at hand at all times while bathing your cat. When rinsing your cat you can use a large bowl or a cup to pour clean water over the animal. Once you have your bathing area set up, the next step is the actual bathing of the cat, the best way not to get scratched when giving your cat a bath is to grab it from behind by the ... • 40. Torture In The 8th Amendment Solitary confinement can be considered as torture by several people due to the mental pain or suffering that is caused by it. But would solitary confinement be considered an unusual and cruel punishment to the point of violating the eighth amendment? Is torture considered a bad thing? Solitary confinement has been the only choice that the system could think of in order to reprimand those who have already done something wrong. Torture is often used for the purpose of having a positive outcome, which is not a bad thing depending on the situation and its extent. The eighth amendment of the United States Constitution was first introduced by James Madison for the purpose of prohibiting some punishments that are not legal, such as painful and hard labor. This amendment states that punishments must be fair, not cruel, and must have a certain limit. The eighth amendment also prohibits the imposition of excessive bail and excessive fines. For example, an accused must be treated as an innocent person before he or she is proven otherwise. Excessive bail depends on how severe the situations are. Other great examples of the 8th amendment prohibitions are castration, burning at the stake, and quartering. Based on the wording of the amendment, I believe that the use of solitary confinement in the United States does not violate citizens eighth amendment rights. A cruel and unusual punishment would be considered grossly disproportionate, which doesn t exactly concord with solitary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
