Underground Railroad Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of the Underground Railroad poses a unique set of challenges that
require a thoughtful approach and in-depth research. The Underground Railroad, a clandestine
network that helped enslaved individuals escape to freedom during the 19th century, is a
complex historical subject that demands careful examination and analysis.
One of the difficulties lies in the vast amount of information available, necessitating thorough
research to ensure accuracy and depth in the essay. The Underground Railroad involved a
network of people, secret routes, and safe houses, making it crucial to explore various
perspectives and individual stories. Delving into primary sources, historical accounts, and
scholarly articles is essential to grasp the intricacies of this clandestine system.
Another challenge is navigating the emotional and ethical aspects of the topic. The Underground
Railroad was born out of the cruelty of slavery, and discussing the hardships faced by those
seeking freedom can be emotionally charged. It requires a delicate balance to convey the gravity
of the situation while maintaining an objective and scholarly tone.
Additionally, crafting a compelling narrative that engages readers and effectively communicates
the historical significance of the Underground Railroad is a key challenge. Striking the right
balance between providing factual information and creating a compelling narrative flow is
essential for an impactful essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the Underground Railroad demands meticulous research,
sensitivity to the emotional context, and the ability to weave a compelling narrative. However,
with dedication and a strategic approach, one can successfully navigate these challenges to
produce an informative and thought-provoking piece.

The Battle Of Qala I Jangi
This paper explores the battle of Qala i Jangi, with alternate outcomes and relevant
capabilities of both sides rendering a future effect on the campaign. Taliban and
foreign fighters surrendered near Kunduz and were being held as enemy combatants
at Qala i Jangi fortress prison for interrogations by the American Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA). The prisoners revolted and the ensuing fighting escalated into one of
the bloodiest battles of the conflict. Northern Alliance fighters, assisted by British
and American Special Forces and air support, to quelled the revolt. As a result all but
86 prisoners were killed. United States (US) suffered the first American fatality
during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. Among the surviving prisoners was an
American citizen. The subsequent lessons learned will be employed throughout
campaigns on the Global War on Terrorism, Operation Enduring Freedom.
(Wikipedia, 2015) Overview of Qala i Jangi Battle
The battle of Qala i Jangi may have been prevented by use of the most basic
techniques yielding intelligence and saving lives, this paper will show the events as
they occurred analyzing the failures and the effects. November 2001, Mazar e Sharif
located in Northern Afghanistan would host the bloodiest battle from 25 November
2001 through 1 December 2001. The battle took place when approximately 600
prisoners consisting of Taliban and foreign fighters, were hastily placed in the Qala i

Abstract
Case Services software provides production optimization for a variety of different
methods of artificial lift. This paper discusses the dominant factors in electrical
centrifugal submersible pump design and monitoring. Emphasis is placed on three
areas: Well inflow performance behavior. Fluid Pressure Volume Temperature and
phase behavior. Pump equipment performance specifications.
An examination of fluid dynamics within a centrifugal pump provides appreciation
for the need to analyze the pump one stage at a time. The importance of individual
pump testing is also identified. This paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is crucial to analyze pump performance based on a known good
condition. Experience has shown that each serialized pump demonstrates unique
performance data. Therefore, a factory pump test should be obtained before the pump
is installed in a well. The data from this test can be used throughout the equipment life
for accurate performance analysis. This discussion is limited to conventional
applications of centrifugal pumps specifically excluding: Pumps installed below the
producing formation. Downhole gas separation. Variable frequency drive
considerations.
Focus is placed upon the pump itself. The downhole motor is discussed only in
passing. Steady state operation (no pump cycling) is also assumed.

The Basics
This section describes the formulas that are the basis for the csSubmersible suite s
calculations. When employing any pumping method, optimum artificial lift is
achieved only when the pump is closely matched to the well s ability to produce
fluids. This is especially true with centrifugal pumping. Before the pump design
process can even begin, an accurate model of the well s inflow performance must be
developed.

The Features And Features Of Cow Milk
Features of Cow Milk: Milk has been in the limelight since ages for being
considered one of the most important and essential source of calcium for human
beings. It s been considered a popular and healthy drink worldwide. The features of
milk are not just one, but many. It is said to be one of the most important immunity
boosters for the human body. It nourishes human tissues. The nutrients in milk is
said to improve intelligence, strength and also is said to assist in digestion. Research
studies have shown proof now and again that milk aids in keeping diabetes and
cholesterol under good control and also that it helps greatly in developing the
intelligence of human beings. Cow s milk also contains omega 3 fat which is said to

Proper cooling of at least 4 degrees prevents multiplication of bacteria, bringing
down the risk of germ induced diseases. Sometimes, upon processing, milk can
develop a cooked flavor. The best thing is that fresh milk is a rich source of
protein, vitamins, and minerals that build stamina and increase fitness levels. One
of the fresh milk benefits is that its fluidity adds to your diet and keeps your body
hydrated. As the human body needs a continuous supply of calcium and phosphorus
to maintain the skeletal bone health, fresh milk is a must. It not only strengthens
young bones of children but also keeps adult bones strong enough to prevent
osteoporosis. It also helps prevent tooth decay and cavities. Vitamin D must be
present for absorbing calcium in the body. Country fresh milk is fortified with extra
vitamin D so that your body can absorb all the necessary nutrients. After you
exercise, it is always recommended to drink a glass of milk as the proteins in it help
in rebuilding the muscles. It also replenishes the fluids that are lost during your
Victor s Violent Behavior In Frankenstein
For a human being to be nurtured and live healthy, the being must be taken care of
by a parent or guardian In this case, the creature didn t have either one. The creature
wasn t given the proper attention that could ve prevented his violent behavior.
Victor was never there for his own creation and left him to sustain himself like an
animal. Victor never supervised the creature in order to ensure the creature was not
going to cause any damage to anyone or anything. The creature had to teach himself
how to read, write and speak in a hovel, behind the cottage of a French family. While
the creature resided in the hovel behind the cottage, he witnessed how the family

Apa Analysis
Is Apa a good man? I wonder this to myself a lot during this book. Some might
argue a definite no and go on to say he is a terrible role model and a terrible person.
While some might argue there are good qualities and that he goes through so much
for his family and perhaps he just shows his love and dedication for his familyin a
harsh way.
I see both parts of this argument, on one hand Apa abuses his children, Young Ju
and Joon, and his wife Uhmma. You, Apa shouts and hit the side of my head with
his knuckles, will never question me again. page 111. All Young Ju did was ask Apa
why he needed the car the following morning. She got hit in the head for asking a
simple question. Children should never get punished for asking questions. Slam. ...

Was Apa abused as a child? Does he have a mental disorder? Does he have

He runs his hands through his hair, gripping his scalp, his neck. He whispers, I

disappointment. As though he let down his mother because he cannot afford to miss

What kind of son am I? . Perhaps these are some of the thoughts that lead him to go
out late at night and get drunk, the thoughts that lead him to abuse his wife and kids,
perhaps even the thoughts that lead him to miss work and stay home all day.
There s no arguing Apa has done some horrible things in his time, to his family, to
himself. In my opinion, Apa is a terrible person. The thoughts of disappointment to
not justify the things he does to his family. Of course I think he should seek help

When Baden Powell was commanding troops in the Boer war, he took action
when he realized that his men were incapable of surviving in the harsh conditions
of the war wracked frontier. In India he discovered that the soldiers he was
commanding did not have the knowledge of basic first aid. To aid his fellow men,
Baden Powell wrote a small handbook called Aids to Scouting, which emphasized
resourcefulness, adaptability, and the qualities of leadership that the harsh frontier
demanded ( History of Cub Scouting ). With the help of this small handbook, he and
his fellow soldiers were able to withstand the Boer War. Upon his arrival to England,

A study done by researchers from Tufts University reveals that Scouting is
scientifically proven to promote positive character development (Cordaro). The
helpful, forward thinking ideology of Boy Scouts has helped boys grow into
optimistic and motivated young adults. Dr. Richard M. Lerner, the leader of the
study at Tufts University, reports, After three years, Scouts reported significant
increases in cheerfulness, helpfulness, kindness, obedience, trustworthiness, and
hopeful future expectations (Tufts University). All of these traits, coincidentally, are
the same traits that Baden Powell promoted in the Scout Law: trustworthy, loyal,
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and
reverent. Scouting;s focus on a prosocial experience gives young people the chance
to build a positive character that allow them the chance to embrace opportunity,

How Does Dante s Use Of Violence
Humans love violence almost to the point where it is part of our nature. We have
tales of people being tortured, suicide, and even senseless beatings and humans
enjoy it. The stories that will be discussed use violence in them, but they are not war
stories. They are Dante s Inferno, Decameron, and Don Quixote. In Dante s Inferno
we have torture being used all throughout hell. We get characters that carry their own
heads, Popes who are burned, people eating eachother, and many more grotesque acts
of violence. Violence in this piece of literature is used as a scare tactic. Dante wants
us to be afraid of sinning so he shows us this terrible images. He does make the
punishment fit the crime though. In most of these punishments it is almost poetic for
how much they punishments play off of. We get people who are caught up in lust be
forever. The scene that puts fear into one s mind but is not as violent is Satan eating
Brutus, Cassius, and Judas. All the punishments are trying to scare the readers into
not sinning.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does it all poetically like from Romeo and Juliet. Her lover is killed by her
father and so she can defy he father and be with her lover she kills herself. This
makes it seem like violence to one s self is beautiful. This woman would rather kill
herself than go without her lover. Although this story is mainly about romance, it
shows violence is a good light if it is the last resort . It also shows how a father will
result to violence to keep his daughter away from a man he does not approve of.
Even though the father was a king and the man was a person of his court he killed
him for sleeping with his
Color Blindness By John Dalton
Although it is not a huge problem in today s society, color blindness can be a
problem for many people today. To many people, the term color blind means that a
person cannot see color at all. This is a huge misconception and is not true at all. In
reality, being color blind means that a person cannot see certain colors. When
viewing the world, many colors appear dull or discolored. Although this does not
affect the normal functions of the human body, it can be a problem for young
children learning how to identify colors. Being colorblind may not be a huge
problem for people today, but research and study still needs to be done in order for
people to truly understand this amazing genetic disorder. The first case of color
blindnesswas recorded by John Dalton in the late eighteenth century. John Dalton
himself was color blind and was fascinated by the way he perceived the world.
Dalton is most famous for his writings on the Atomic theory. Even though he is
most famous for his other findings, his first paper was on the color blindness of
himself and his brother. Because of this, sometimes color blindness is called
Daltonism (Boyer 1). Even with the vast amount of research done on this genetic
order, color blindness, also known as color deficiency, is still not understood by the
general population. Most of the time, a color blind person is male. The color blind
gene is dominant and is carried by the female ( Color Blindness Columbia 1).
Statistics show that 8% of men and
A Report On The Metro Railproject

Fiorina s The Disappearing Center
While Fiorina s claims that Americans polarization is a complete myth, counter to
Fiorina s belief, Abramowitz with his book The Disappearing Center argues that
Americans are in fact polarized. Abramowitz brings much evidence to refute Fiorina,
but does it really counter Fiorina s argument, or merely talk past him while adding
some studies and fancy statistical data? The first argument that Abramowitz uses to
refute Fiorina is the Engaged Citizen Argument that can be found on page 4.
Abramowitz argues that citizens who care about government and politics, pay
attention to what political leaders are saying and doing, and participate actively in
the political process. Specifically, on page 4 and 5 Abramowitz describes how
partisan ideological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, we can analyze the costs that Abramowitz associates that are bought about
polarization being present among the political elites. The first cost is fairly
obvious, with increased polarization, there are fewer moderates representing each
party in the House. The term Liberal Republican or Conservative Democrat has all
but seemingly disappeared over the past several decades. This is in part due to as
previously mentioned, better party sorting amongst the electorate. Another cost that
Abramowitz sheds some light on is the increased instances of divided party control
of the government. As Abramowitz explains on page 161, due to the fact that the
president is elected separately from Congress, there is always the possibility that
one or both chambers of Congress that are a different party than the presidents. This
leads too many issues, as one can imagine, legislation nearly coming to a complete
halt, as each party has a different agenda that they would like to enact. This level of
partisan gridlock or divided party control I think is perfectly illustrated as it relates to
Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. As the Washington Post
reported, as of March 2014,
Essay on Odysseus

audience at the time it was written. The Odyssey, a journey of determination,
patience, and virtue, tells the tail of Odysseus, the main character, on his voyage
home to Ithaka after the end of the Trojan War. Odysseus goes through many
unforeseen trials and tribulations, which exemplify his character. During these
different happenings, Odysseus makes decisions that do not correspond to his

Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen
Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen
Since the threat of war in some part of the world everyday and because of the
colossal impact that it has had on our lives, it doesn t seem surprising that it is a
popular theme of poetry. Sonnets are an extremely passionate form of poetry, used to
show how the poet feels in their heart; both Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen create
this passion in excellent, but very different ways. Anthem for Doomed
Youth by Wilfred Owen is a Shakespearean sonnetreflecting on the callous life at
war. Owen wrote this poem during his four months at
Craiglockhart, a war hospital, whilst recovering from trench fever.
Faced with many fatally injured men, this must have inspired him to write a great
deal. Unlike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Made up of an octave and a sestet, the first stanza follows the
Shakespearean sonnet form, whereas the second follows the Petrarchan sonnet
pattern. Together the two stanzas invite the reader to visualize the prominence of
the deceased soldier. Combining England s traditions, legacy and his patriotism,
Brooke talks of the place where he will spend his after life which is a cross
between England and heaven. There is not as much of a connection between the
poet and reader in Brooke s sonnet as he is addressing you If I should die, think only
this of me . I prefer the way in which Owen gets the reader interested by getting them
to question their thoughts.
In parts of the poem I feel that Brooke is just an arrogant man;
That there s some corner of a foreign field
That is forever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
With this, Brooke makes it apparent that he believes that wherever he is buried will
become purer as his English body shall turn to dust and become a part of it. I find
this overly intense and I am almost disgusted, as I find it hard to believe that
someone could feel so superior by merely being English. Although Owen s poem is
also very intense I find it easier to understand his thought process and can read it in
agreement. Whilst saying this, in Brooke s case, it may just be ignorance and he
could quite easily be excused due to the fact
Essay about Canadian Morality and the Law
Canadian Morality and the Law
In legal theory, there is a great debate over whether or not law should be used to
enforce morality. The sides of the debate can be presented as a continuum. At one
end, there is the libertarian view, which holds that morality is an individual belief and
that the state should not interfere in the affairs of the individual. According to this
view, a democracy cannot limit or enforce morality. At the other end, there is the
communitarian position, which justifies the community as a whole deciding what
moral values are, and hence justifies using the law to enforce community values. For
libertarians, judges should play a prominent role in limiting the state, while for
communitarians, judges should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collective agreement between the government and Mossap s union afford
bereavement leave only in the case of the death of Mossap s immediate family.
Although this definition included a common law spouse, it precluded members of the
opposite sex. Mossap, who argued that he was being unfairly discriminated against,
filed a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC). The CHRC
agreed, and ordered that he be given bereavement leave and that the collective
agreement be restated to include persons of the same sex. The government appealed
this decision and the case was brought before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Could
held that the family status provision in the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA) was
meant to uphold an implicit legal interpretation which excluded homosexuals from
anti discriminatory protection. In his decision, Judge Lamer argued that the CHRA
had been amended in 1983 to include the family status provision, and if the CHRA
had meant it to include homosexuals, they would have made it explicit then. Instead,
according to Lamer, Parliament (through the CHRA) had a clear intent to not extend
anyone protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation [354]. Since the
legislature had not willed it, Lamer did not feel it was appropriate to amend it. But
the decision was not unanimous. Judge L Heureux Dube, representing the voice of
dissent, argued that the majority

Oral Tradition And Oral Traditions
Imagine being able to tell stories for generations to come without ever having to write
down a single word. Oral tradition is used to pass stories down from generation to
generation through different forms of communication without any writing system.
Oral tradition stories are told by word of mouth, riddles, storytelling, and songs. It
cannot be changed although the narrator might embellish it. Oral tradition is how
Africans perceived the past. The significance of oral Tradition is due to the stories
holding so much information and knowledge. Oral tradition contributed to
understanding pre colonial historybecause the pre colonial Africawas influenced by
two major movements which are the expansion of islam and the dispersion of the
bantu. Oral tradition gave us the perspective as to why the expansion and
dispersion took place. Oral tradition has its strengths and weaknesses. A strength of
oral tradition is that it is being told from word of mouth and more people will
listen to a good storyteller than to go read a book about the history. However, a
weakness of oral tradition is that many of the stories get forgotten, left out, or
embellished. With each re telling the story gets further and further away from the
original. Oral tradition is a primary way of conveying culture and is a way of life in
Africanhistory.
Oral traditions are historical traditions passed down by word of mouth from one
generation to another without written instruction. Oral tradition was used during
Quotes For Lord Capulet

The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees play at least 22 games a year just

they do not realize who they are until after the game. In my favorite scene, Act 4

After her speech, he goes straight to business face. If I directed a play of this, then
I would direct the person playing Lord Capulet to walk around and talk to himself
about random things like caterer, flowers, place, etc... and then start talking about
his rewards because, as it says above, all he cares about is what is in it for him.
Staging is just one element in the theater genre, but it is a very important one. If I
had the chance to direct Romeo and Juliet in the modernized version I created, then
the lights for Act 4 Scene 2 would be bright, like fluorescent lights were
everywhere. Even if Lord Capulet was not holding a phone that lights up, we
would need to signify that he is using one and what he is doing with it. That would
need it s own lighting. The camera angle if we ever filmed it would move from
place to place. I believe that it would start on Lord Capulet and then everyone else
would answer while he is on his phone. The camera when Juliet enters would be
focused on her, maybe with her running into the room where her father is. All of
the actors need costumes to make the whole scene come alive. Lord Capulet would
be wearing a suit, black with a light blue undershirt and a red tie would be added to
this to make the audience believe that he had just come from work. The suit will also
show that even at home, Lord Capulet is all about the money.
Romeo and Juliet already has many modernized versions
Indigenous Issues In Canada
With the rapid growth of media influence in today s society, the media has often
misrepresented and devalued Indigenous issues occurring within their respecting
communities. Poor reporting on Indigenous issues occurs because journalists are not
well prepared, do not have enough time to gather sufficient information, and there is
a lack of interest of Indigenous issues by non Indigenous reporters ( Aboriginal
People in the news ). For proper recognition to occur in the media, journalists need to

That failure is shared by generations of political leaders at all levels (Trudeau
2015). Thus, the concept of building a renewed relationship is highly prevalent in
the news in both the National Post and The Globe and Mail. In The Globe and Mail,
Justin Trudeau is quoted, we need to fix the relationship that [broke] over the past
decade, and indeed centuries, between Canada and [its] Indigenous peoples (Gignac
2016). The new Liberal government has sworn to create a new nation to nation
relationship (Gignac 2016), however their version of renewing a relationship is based
on putting money forward to support housing and health of Indigenous communities,
not on self governing rights. Both Trudeau and the RCAP have a vision of a new,
respectful relationship, and that this relationship is important (Hume 2016), but other
than basing this profound relationship on his political agenda, not much has been
accomplished in renewing it as of yet. The theme of self government, which is
important according to the RCAP in building a renewed relationship, is not
referenced in any of the news articles in either the National Post or The Globe and
Mail. Once again, the theme of renewed relationship and self government do not

America was born thanks to a tyrant. In fact, many of the laws that the King of
England made were highly frowned upon by the colonists, and were resisted, as
well as boycotted by many in the 1760s and 70s. After the French and Indian War,
the British Parliament had passed a series of laws and taxes to the colonists. These
very laws and taxes would bring conflict both sides. Two laws that resulted in the
colonists to take action and request independence from Englandwould be the
Townshend Acts and the Intolerable Acts. The Townshend Acts were taxes that were

At that time, the law had said that they could only be taxed by [their] own
representatives , except the colonists had no representatives in the British
Parliament (1). As a result, the colonists would have less respect for the King of
Britain because of how he broke his own laws. This would lead to the idea that
independence would be ideal in order to get away from the tyrant ways of the
King, as well as the famous saying, no taxation without representation . In order to
show the King of Britain how much they hated the Townshend Acts and it s taxes,
the colonists would often boycott and protest the laws. One of the protests that they
had done was called the Boston Tea Party. During the Boston Tea Party, the
colonists climbed aboard the ships in the harbor, and then proceeded to throw chests

The Intolerable Acts were laws that were meant to punish the colonists for their role

Britain for the tea they had destroyed. Along with the port closing, the royal governor
now would have the power to ban town meeting, as well as the new law that British
officials would stand trial in Britain rather than in Massachusetts (5). Colonists would

Harley Case Study
HARLEY DAVIDSON, INC. (1998): THE 95TH ANNIVERSARY
Introduction Situation Analysis
Harley Davidson has been a widely admired fixture in the motorcycle industry since
the golden years of American motorcycle manufacturing (1900 1931), when at times
there were as many as 200 different brands of American made motorcycles. By 1930,
the market had consolidation and the big three Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle,
and Excelsior Supply together accounted for 90% of the market (Ballon, 1997, p.
43). The Great Depression nearly destroyed the industry wiping out all of the smaller
manufacturers, forcing Excelsior out of business in 1931, and leaving Indian
severely weakened until it too, ceased operations in 1953 (Ballon, 1997). ... Show

Moreover, the emergence of these competitors is ironically at least partially the result
of the fact that Harley s production did not meet market demand. While new
production capacity and facilities will certainly go a long way towards meeting short
term demand for touring and custom motorcycles in the domestic market, all
indications are that there will be continued strong demand in the home market as well
as growing demand in the larger European market. Looking towards the future, Harley
Davidson management must decide how to best match the company s vision and
resources (which now include Eaglemark Financing and Buell performance
motorcycles) with the opportunities and threats in the global motorcycle market.
Problem Analysis The following analysis looks first at Harley Davidson s external
environment (including competition) and secondly at the company s internal
resources, strengths and weaknesses in an effort to identify Harley s strategic options
for addressing the current problem.
External Environmental Analysis It is beyond the scope of this case analysis to
provide separate environmental and industry analyses for vehicle financing services

real estate investors to solve the numerous challenges associated with property sale.
This article will discuss why cash home buyers are the perfect solution for your
inherited house.
With the big challenge in housing today, it is not fair to have an utilized house

Cash home buyers, however, are always ready to buy property whenever they are
consulted regardless of many factors that many potential buyers consider and they
are easy to find. The moment you engage a cash home buyer, it mostly takes them
about a week to close a home sale.
Cash home buyers do not include third parties in their transactions. They understand
that homeowners part with a portion of their home s value on commissions or fees to
real estate agents and brokers. They deal with property owners directly and finding
them does not require a property owner to consult any third parties. The only time
they would engage a real estate professional when they intend to sell their property to
cash home buyers would be when they require establishing the actual value of their
property. It is not mandatory because one can do the valuation independently through
research.
To establish the value of your home, you should consider the property sales
completed over the past twelve months to identify how much homes are going for.
Remember to take into account the size of your property, the amenities it holds, its
condition, its location, and the price at which it was bought or the cost of its
construction during your comparison. This information is helpful to ensure that you
do not make a loss or ask for an unfair price for your property.

Mafia And The Mafia
Throughout history, crime has existed in many different forms and has been
committed by not only individuals, but by groups as well. Crime is something that
knows no boundaries; it exists in all cultures, is committed by all races, and has
existed since the beginning of time. Crime exists as a part of the economic and
cultural structure of the world. Yet, few people realize that crime exists in both
organized and unorganized forms. Particularly, organized crime has existed in the
United States since the early 1900 s, this is what we now refer to as the mafia. What
exactly is the Mafia? Many people ponder the true definition of the word. The Mafia
is an Italian derived organization that established itself in The United States of
America... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength of the organization only grew after the Volstead Act was passed. The
Volstead act, was passed under leadership of president Woodrow Wilson, on October
28th, 1919. This was pivotal for the Italian American Mafia, for this act is what
brought about the Prohibition Era. The Prohibition implemented a legal ban on the
production, distribution, and transportation of all intoxicating drinks. This went on
from 1919 until 1933, when the 21st amendment was published which repealed the
Prohibition.
The Prohibition was originally established with good intentions to reduce crime,
solve social chaos and improve health and hygiene in the United States. However,
the passing of this act is said to be one of the main reasons for the root of all evil
that came to be known as the mafia. Rather than putting an end to alcohol
consumption, it merely made the act illegal and forced people to find other means.
Now, those other means led to the creation of the under ground market where
producers and consumers were not only breaking the law but having a good time

The Brain And Its Effects On Human Brain
Through neurological processes, pattern recognition, and analytical resolutions that
the human brain achieves when interpreting sound, unknown scientific truths and
developments of society can be exposed through various examinations of auditory
data in conjunction with traditional visual data.
Following an advanced series of steps, the brain transforms sound waves into
interpretable information. Once the sound wave has passed the eardrum and reaches
the inner ear, the behavior of the wave is converted into electrical signals that are
sent to the brain. The spiral shaped cochlea in the inner ear is lined with sensory
cells (or hair cells) with different levels of sensitivity, allowing the ear to perceive
sounds of varying frequencies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Graphs and charts allow data to be mapped by means of two or three variables,
limiting the analysis of the star. Yet, parameter mapping accounts for various features
of sound as shown in Figure 2.
On the other hand, audificaiton is the direct translation of data samples to audio
samples (ScienceFriday, 2016). Being the most basic method of sonification, each
data point is translated into a signal level, which a digital to analog converter reads
(Vogt, 2008). This converter takes the finite number of signal levels (e.g., four in the
Potts model) and translates them into a state with an infinite number of levels,
allowing the data to sound continuous, just as human speech does.
Most recognizably, sonification can also be in the form of auditory icons. They
have images that correspond to a specific sound. For example, the trashcan icon on
the computer is accompanied by the auditory icon s sound of a crumpled piece of
paper thrown into a metal trashcan (Vogt, 2008). Additionally, the beep... beep... beep
of a heartrate monitor can easily be recognized. The auditory icon of a beep relays
the beat of a patient s heartrate so that physicians and caretakers may accurately
monitor the patient.
Model based sonification uses the data to control a model that produces sound (Vogt,
2008). This includes the human perception of pitch when filling up a water bottle; an
individual can determine the level of water in the bottle (TГјnnermann et al., 2009)

Engineering Runs The World
In our daily life we face challenges that we can relate to mechanical engineering, one
of the common examples is the temperature in metal, which is the thermal expansion.
Mechanical engineers use combination of material, human and economic resources to
develop mechanical solutions that help satisfy the needs and wants of society. They
must be confident and accurate when making decisions. Engineers try to look at the
problems in the society and come with innovative ideas in order to solve the
difficulties.
Work experience as an engineer is very important. Knowing how to react in certain
situations under certain circumstances is an essential part of being an engineer.
Engineering industry have a wide variety of jobs such as civil engineer where you

everything is up to code for large building and structures. Mechanical engineering
works on mechanical systems and other complex mechanics, such as; cranes and
airplane motors. If someone who is inexperienced tries to take on a real engineer

Cheerleading Injuries
According to Dictionary.com, the definition of sport is an athletic activity that
requires physical prowess or skill and often a competitive nature; so by that
definition, cheerleading is a sport (Popoloski). Cheerleading is defined as a sport
because it meets the requirements of a sport: competitive physical exertion and
chance of injury.
Due to the fact that cheerleaders can become greatly injured from cheerleading like
other athletic activities that are said to be sports proves that cheerleading is a sport
(Tanner). Injuries can be caused by a variety of things such as, tumbling, flyers and
bases hitting the ground after performing a risky stunt and even people colliding.
USA Today states that The American Medical Association says cheerleading should
be considered a sport because of its rigors and risks (Tanner). Since a medical
association is stating how dangerous and rigorous cheerleading is, their belief on
whether or not cheer should be considered a sport is very credible. AMA continues to
support its claim that cheerleading should be a sport by stating other facts. Also, the
National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research said that cheerleading is

Themes In James Baldwin s The Fire Next Time
I don t even call it violence when it s self defense; I call it intelligence. Malcolm X
It is their fault, after all. White people Is it not time that the subjugated, oppressed,
black community rise up and seize what they rightfully deserve? What really is the
cost of setting the score? James Baldwin, political activist and author, would say that
the cost, indeed, is everything. Society is sick. Black communities are hurting, and
white peopleneglect to see it. Baldwin s book The Fire Next Time chronicles
Baldwin s thoughts concerning the racial conundrum present in the U.S. He
believes that in order for true equity to be established, love will have to win out.
The text consists of two essays. The first is a letter to Baldwin s nephew and acts
as a sort of prelude to the rest of the text. What will be concentrated on here is
Baldwin s second essay, Down at the Cross: Letter from a Region in my Mind. The
text is broken down into three sections each having a focus on one of three main
ideas: The Church and it s inadequacy in addressing racial oppression, the Islamic
alternative, and finally Baldwin s call to action. As is apparent by Baldwin s
narrative, growing up in Harlem was no easy matter. the essay introduces us to
Baldwin in his early teen s, just on the threshold of when his world was finally
shattered. He was finally starting to notice the effects of racial oppression. He could
see it in the changing behavior of his friends, in the poverty, in the
The Cardiovascular System Of The Human Body
People often exercise in elevated temperatures and maintain an intense work out to
improve their maximum conditioning levels. Participating in such exercise
challenges the homeostasis of the human body. The way that the body reacts and
adapts to physical stress depends on various components. Specifically, exercising in
the heat can overload the body and decrease its capability to adapt to the stress that it
is being put through (Nielsen, Hales, Strange, Christensen, Warberg, Saltin, 1993).
Compared to a more neutral environment, exercising in the heat results in alterations
of the circulatory system, thermoregulatory system, and endocrine system(Nielsen,
Hales, Strange, Christensen, Warberg, Saltin, 1993). Despite these alterations, there
are several guidelines that coaches and athletes should follow to allow the body a
proper time frame to acclimate to the harsh temperatures , but the most effective
practice is heat acclimation ten to fourteen days prior to the date of maximum
exertion (Powers Howley, 2015). Allowing the body time to acclimate and learn how
to handle the stress from the heat, helps with acute and chronic adaptations. Being
aware of how the heat effects the body and understanding the physiological responses
as well as acute and chronic adaptations, should allow one s body to safely and
efficiently exercise during increased temperature.
There are multiple physiological responses depending on what specific system
someone may be referring to. For the
William Jennings Bryan s Speech At The Cross Of Gold
William Jennings Bryan gave one of the most famous speeches in American
history called the Cross of Gold. He gave his speech at the Democratic convention
on July 9, 1896, in Chicago. Bryan was very passionate expressed his belief in the
different forms of currency. The free silver movement was a big debate during the
election of 1896. Acute periods on economic lows in this decade caused panic from
farmers who could not pay their debts. Bryan suggested the United Statestry and use
silver behind the dollar not just gold, at a value that would cause an inflation.
Farmers would make a profit for their crops, easing their debt to lenders. This position
was known as the Free Silver Movement. Both the democratic party, and the furture

Before William Jennings Bryan gave his famous cross of gold speech he was
already very popular. The big issue of currency was the platform of his July 1896
democratic convention speech. Bryan s beliefs were appealing to farmers, miners,
and laborers. He spoke very passionate on topics and had a very dramatic speaking
style. Bryan was known for getting the crowds excited. When he spoke the crowd
would turn into a frenzy of shouts and cheers. In the first part of his famous speech
he gives contrast to the common man and business men, who by the application of
brain and muscle to the natural resources of the country creates wealth, is as much
a business man as the man who goes upon the Board of Trade and bets upon the
price of grain. Its clear to me Bryan sympathizes with the hard working farmers and
miners of America, and strongly supports the indroduction of silver into American
currency. In his speech, Bryan went on to critize both democatics and republican
who supported gold. The most known part in Bryan s speech was when he spoke
of the cities and farms. You come to us and tell us that the great cities are in favor
of the gold standard; we reply that the great cities rest upon our broad and fertile
prairies. Burn down your cities and leave our farms and your cities will spring up
again as if by magic; but destroy our farms and the grass will grow in the streets of

1.What are the physical principles being investigated in this lab? Our object in this
experiment was to gain familiarity in working with vector quantities. We
demonstrated the process of the addition of several vectors to form a resultant vector

we were able to see how each method produces a slightly different resultant force (N)
and resultant direction (in degrees). 2.How do your results verify the principles being

Diabetic Foot Problems
What are Diabetic Foot Problems and why do they occur? Foot problems are a big
risk in diabetics therefore diabetic patients must constantly monitor their feet or
face severe consequences, including amputation. With a diabetic foot, a wound as
small as a blister from wearing a shoe that s too tight can cause a lot of damage.
Because diabetes decreases blood flow, injuries are slow to heal as new blood often
doesn t flow freely to the injury. When wounds do not heal in a timely fashion, they
are at risk for infection meaning that infections in the feet of diabetic patients spread
quickly. If you have diabetes, you should inspect your feet every day. Look for
puncture wounds, bruises, pressure areas, redness, warmth, blisters, ulcers, scratches,
The Effects Of Pets On The Health And Physical Activity...
It is widely believed that pets can have a positive impact on the health and physical
activity levels of their owners. These three articles take a deeper look at the health
effects pets have on their owners in terms of physical activity, blood pressure levels,
stress levels, and risk of allergy sensitization. This study conducted by Allen, Shykoff,
and Izzo evaluates the effect of social support intervention (pet ownership) in relation
to stress before and while undergoing ACE inhibitor therapy. This study hypothesized
that having a pet would help to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and reninresponses to
psychological stress. The study had 48 participants, equally distributed between male
and female, with stage II hypertensionand in a high stress profession (stockbrokers).
Participants were randomized to either a control group (without pets) or an
experimental group (who acquired pets subsequently). After 1 month of observation,
all participants completed, at home, baseline mental stress sessions. These sessions
consisted of participants doing psychologically stressful tasks while their systolic
blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR), and plasma
renin activity (PRA) were measured and recorded. After the first baseline session
was completed, all participants from both groups began lisinopril therapy (20 mg/d).
At the same time, participants in the experimental group were also instructed to get a
pet cat or dog. Six months later,

First of all, the topic of funerals is a topic that few people want to talk about as it

model for Funerals.com was a Better Faster Cheaper start up with no real

Professionalism As A Nurse Is So Much More Than
Someone...
A nurse is so much more than someone who administers medication, performs
physical examinations, and establishes treatment plans. Nurses do not just listen to
their patients needs, they advocate for them. They do not just take care of the
suffering and ill, they have empathy for them. They do not just treat injuries and
wounds, they heal the mind body and spirit. Being a nurseis not just a job title, it is
an identity. It involves many core concepts and incorporates many values and beliefs.
Being a nurse includes the concepts professionalism and patient and family centered
care. Both in which relate to the Benedictine values of the College of St. Scholastica.
Professionalism is a concept of nursing that is needed to have a successful ... Show

Nurses and physicians would get no input from the patient on their wishes for
treatment and care (Giddens, 2016). Health Care has recently advanced by
adopting the patient and family centered care model which was designed to
recognize the patient or designee as the source of control and full partner in
providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respects for the patient s
preferences, values, and needs (Knuths, 2017). This model allows patients to have a
voice on what happens to their bodies and allows them to actively participate in their
care. It has also allowed the patient s family and loved ones to be involved. This
involvement has given the patient a strong support system with their best interest in
mind. Moving towards this concept has made nurses more aware of patient s cultural
differences, spiritual differences, family preferences, and personal values. This
system has lead to better overall care and patient satisfaction. Care has become about
the patient and not the provider (Knuths, 2017).
It is important to integrate the concept professionalism into your nursing career
because it allows you to flourish personally as a nurse but more importantly allows
the patient to receive the care they deserve. Throughout the course of one s nursing
career there will be many slips and falls. Mistakes will happen but we as nurses are
able to reflect and learn from them in a
Autism Spectrum Disorder And Autism
Estimates show one out of six children aged three seventeen in the United States had
one or more developmental disorders in 2006 2008. This can affect the person
mentally, physically, emotionally, or a combination of the three. These range from
something as simple as a speech delay to something as complex as cerebral palsy.
One of these developmental disorders is autism. Autism can cause social,
communication, and behavioral challenges. One in 68 children are affected by
autism. Autism SpectrumDisorder (ASD) is 4.5 times more common in boys. One in
forty two boys will be affected; whereas, one in 189 girls will be on the spectrum
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Though autism is quite
common and the occurrences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This issue is sometimes referred to as the broader ASD phenotype (Regehr and
Feldman, 237 238). One of the most commonly debated speculated causes for autism
is that it is a reaction from vaccines. Data indicates that the amount of shots given at
such an early age could compromise the child s immune system and possibly
contribute to autism. Thimerosal, which is a vaccine preservative, is 49% ethyl
mercury. Every major symptom of autism is documented in mercury poison cases.
The biological abnormalities typically associated with autism also are very similar to
mercury poison side effects (Ratajczak,70). Autism cannot be diagnosed with genetic
testing, but genetic testing can let one know if their child is more susceptible to
autism. When major segments of DNA are deleted, the gene is considered
faulty(Waters,2). When coupled with other factors the autism is more commonly
presented. Microarray screening only identified 8 25% of people on the spectrums
genetic abnormality. Seventy five percent of cases are undetected by screening;
therefore, psychologists remain the main source of diagnosis (Waters,2)
The symptoms associated with autism are just as broad as the speculations of the
cause. This can partly be accredited to the fact that autism is a broad spectrum not
just one certain level of delay. There is low functioning autism, high functioning
autism, and several steps in between. Autism is like a line graph and depending on
one s symptoms and

  • 2. The Battle Of Qala I Jangi This paper explores the battle of Qala i Jangi, with alternate outcomes and relevant capabilities of both sides rendering a future effect on the campaign. Taliban and foreign fighters surrendered near Kunduz and were being held as enemy combatants at Qala i Jangi fortress prison for interrogations by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The prisoners revolted and the ensuing fighting escalated into one of the bloodiest battles of the conflict. Northern Alliance fighters, assisted by British and American Special Forces and air support, to quelled the revolt. As a result all but 86 prisoners were killed. United States (US) suffered the first American fatality during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. Among the surviving prisoners was an American citizen. The subsequent lessons learned will be employed throughout campaigns on the Global War on Terrorism, Operation Enduring Freedom. Abstract Case Services software provides production optimization for a variety of different methods of artificial lift. This paper discusses the dominant factors in electrical centrifugal submersible pump design and monitoring. Emphasis is placed on three areas: Well inflow performance behavior. Fluid Pressure Volume Temperature and phase behavior. Pump equipment performance specifications. An examination of fluid dynamics within a centrifugal pump provides appreciation for the need to analyze the pump one stage at a time. The importance of individual pump testing is also identified. This paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, it is crucial to analyze pump performance based on a known good condition. Experience has shown that each serialized pump demonstrates unique performance data. Therefore, a factory pump test should be obtained before the pump is installed in a well. The data from this test can be used throughout the equipment life for accurate performance analysis. This discussion is limited to conventional applications of centrifugal pumps specifically excluding: Pumps installed below the producing formation. Downhole gas separation. Variable frequency drive considerations. Focus is placed upon the pump itself. The downhole motor is discussed only in passing. Steady state operation (no pump cycling) is also assumed. 05/30/01 Page 2 Electrical Submersible Pump Analysis and Design Case Services, Inc. The Basics This section describes the formulas that are the basis for the csSubmersible suite s calculations. When employing any pumping method, optimum artificial lift is achieved only when the pump is closely matched to the well s ability to produce fluids. This is especially true with centrifugal pumping. Before the pump design process can even begin, an accurate model of the well s inflow performance must be developed.

We have tales of people being tortured, suicide, and even senseless beatings and humans enjoy it. The stories that will be discussed use violence in them, but they are not war stories. To many people, the term color blind means that a person cannot see color at all. This is a huge misconception and is not true at all. In reality, being color blind means that a person cannot see certain colors. When viewing the world, many colors appear dull or discolored. Although this does not affect the normal functions of the human body, it can be a problem for young children learning how to identify colors. Being colorblind may not be a huge problem for people today, but research and study still needs to be done in order for people to truly understand this amazing genetic disorder. The first case of color blindnesswas recorded by John Dalton in the late eighteenth century. John Dalton himself was color blind and was fascinated by the way he perceived the world. Dalton is most famous for his writings on the Atomic theory. Even though he is most famous for his other findings, his first paper was on the color blindness of himself and his brother. Because of this, sometimes color blindness is called Daltonism (Boyer 1). Even with the vast amount of research done on this genetic order, color blindness, also known as color deficiency, is still not understood by the general population. The first cost is fairly obvious, with increased polarization, there are fewer moderates representing each party in the House. The term Liberal Republican or Conservative Democrat has all but seemingly disappeared over the past several decades. This is in part due to as previously mentioned, better party sorting amongst the electorate. Another cost that Abramowitz sheds some light on is the increased instances of divided party control of the government. As Abramowitz explains on page 161, due to the fact that the president is elected separately from Congress, there is always the possibility that one or both chambers of Congress that are a different party than the presidents. This leads too many issues, as one can imagine, legislation nearly coming to a complete halt, as each party has a different agenda that they would like to enact. This level of partisan gridlock or divided party control I think is perfectly illustrated as it relates to Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Combining England s traditions, legacy and his patriotism, Brooke talks of the place where he will spend his after life which is a cross between England and heaven. There is not as much of a connection between the poet and reader in Brooke s sonnet as he is addressing you If I should die, think only this of me . I prefer the way in which Owen gets the reader interested by getting them to question their thoughts. In parts of the poem I feel that Brooke is just an arrogant man; That there s some corner of a foreign field That is forever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; With this, Brooke makes it apparent that he believes that wherever he is buried will become purer as his English body shall turn to dust and become a part of it. Since the legislature had not willed it, Lamer did not feel it was appropriate to amend it. But the decision was not unanimous. • 23. Mafia And The Mafia Throughout history, crime has existed in many different forms and has been committed by not only individuals, but by groups as well. Crime is something that knows no boundaries; it exists in all cultures, is committed by all races, and has existed since the beginning of time. Crime exists as a part of the economic and cultural structure of the world. Yet, few people realize that crime exists in both organized and unorganized forms. Particularly, organized crime has existed in the United States since the early 1900 s, this is what we now refer to as the mafia. What exactly is the Mafia? Many people ponder the true definition of the word. The Mafia is an Italian derived organization that established itself in The United States of America... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strength of the organization only grew after the Volstead Act was passed. The Volstead act, was passed under leadership of president Woodrow Wilson, on October 28th, 1919. This was pivotal for the Italian American Mafia, for this act is what brought about the Prohibition Era. The Prohibition implemented a legal ban on the production, distribution, and transportation of all intoxicating drinks. This went on from 1919 until 1933, when the 21st amendment was published which repealed the Prohibition. The Prohibition was originally established with good intentions to reduce crime, solve social chaos and improve health and hygiene in the United States. However, the passing of this act is said to be one of the main reasons for the root of all evil that came to be known as the mafia. Rather than putting an end to alcohol consumption, it merely made the act illegal and forced people to find other means. Now, those other means led to the creation of the under ground market where producers and consumers were not only breaking the law but having a good time while doing

The Brain And Its Effects On Human Brain Through neurological processes, pattern recognition, and analytical resolutions that the human brain achieves when interpreting sound, unknown scientific truths and developments of society can be exposed through various examinations of auditory data in conjunction with traditional visual data. Following an advanced series of steps, the brain transforms sound waves into interpretable information. Once the sound wave has passed the eardrum and reaches the inner ear, the behavior of the wave is converted into electrical signals that are sent to the brain. The spiral shaped cochlea in the inner ear is lined with sensory cells (or hair cells) with different levels of sensitivity, allowing the ear to perceive sounds of varying frequencies. ... Yet, parameter mapping accounts for various features of sound as shown in Figure 2. On the other hand, audificaiton is the direct translation of data samples to audio samples (ScienceFriday, 2016). Being the most basic method of sonification, each data point is translated into a signal level, which a digital to analog converter reads (Vogt, 2008). This converter takes the finite number of signal levels (e.g., four in the Potts model) and translates them into a state with an infinite number of levels, allowing the data to sound continuous, just as human speech does. Most recognizably, sonification can also be in the form of auditory icons. They have images that correspond to a specific sound. For example, the trashcan icon on the computer is accompanied by the auditory icon s sound of a crumpled piece of paper thrown into a metal trashcan (Vogt, 2008). Additionally, the beep... beep... beep of a heartrate monitor can easily be recognized. The auditory icon of a beep relays the beat of a patient s heartrate so that physicians and caretakers may accurately monitor the patient. Model based sonification uses the data to control a model that produces sound (Vogt, 2008). This includes the human perception of pitch when filling up a water bottle; an individual can determine the level of water in the bottle (TГјnnermann et al., 2009) Water bottles

  • 33. The Cardiovascular System Of The Human Body People often exercise in elevated temperatures and maintain an intense work out to improve their maximum conditioning levels. Participating in such exercise challenges the homeostasis of the human body. The way that the body reacts and adapts to physical stress depends on various components. Specifically, exercising in the heat can overload the body and decrease its capability to adapt to the stress that it is being put through (Nielsen, Hales, Strange, Christensen, Warberg, Saltin, 1993). Compared to a more neutral environment, exercising in the heat results in alterations of the circulatory system, thermoregulatory system, and endocrine system(Nielsen, Hales, Strange, Christensen, Warberg, Saltin, 1993). Despite these alterations, there are several guidelines that coaches and athletes should follow to allow the body a proper time frame to acclimate to the harsh temperatures , but the most effective practice is heat acclimation ten to fourteen days prior to the date of maximum exertion (Powers Howley, 2015). Allowing the body time to acclimate and learn how to handle the stress from the heat, helps with acute and chronic adaptations. Being aware of how the heat effects the body and understanding the physiological responses as well as acute and chronic adaptations, should allow one s body to safely and efficiently exercise during increased temperature. There are multiple physiological responses depending on what specific system someone may be referring to. For the
